Palin's message a mystery as she prepares to address CPAC

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrives Saturday in Washington at an uncertain point in her political career to deliver just her second speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Jonathan Ernst / Reuters

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin greets attendees after addressing last year's CPAC.

A rock star among conservatives following her nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, Palin has seen her star fade ever since. Her contract as a contributor for Fox News was not renewed, and her bid for president in 2012 never materialized despite a significant amount of buzz that Palin herself helped stoke.

These days, many of Palin’s Facebook posts are about her family’s latest exploits; her scorching political missives seem fewer and farther between. Her political action committee, Sarah PAC, collected about $5 million during the 2012 election cycle, most of which went to operating expenses. Palin’s PAC sent just $306,000 to Republican candidates during the cycle, including the maximum of $5,000 to Romney for President – on Oct. 17, 2012, just 20 days before the election.

CPAC begins but will this conference yield any re-branding of the party, or any united message from the GOP?  The speaker list includes Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio. Political strategist John Braebender and Angela Rye discuss.

To that end, what Palin might tell the conservative activists at CPAC is as a mystery to those who arguably know her best.

“I really like her as a person and I think she has a lot to offer,” said Fred Malek, an occasional adviser to the former Alaska governor, “but I don’t have any particular insights or expectations for what she’ll say.”

Related: Romney re-emerges at CPAC to pass the GOP torch

Palin doesn't have a particularly extensive track record at CPAC. She skipped the yearly confab in 2009, 2010 and 2011, even though organizers had hoped that she would attend. (The governor would typically cite scheduling issues for being unable to make it.)

Her first CPAC speech, in 2012, was full of red meat for the Tea Party followers she cultivated, particularly during the health care reform battle and election of 2010. She spent much of her 37-minute speech extolling the conservative movement and attacking President Barack Obama, earning cheers of “Sar-ah! Sar-ah!” at points during the speech.

But now that Obama’s won a second four-year term, it’s unclear whether Palin might dig in and further oppose the president, or re-position herself for future relevance within the Republican Party.

I never really got why the left felt so threatened by Palin. I do not get where all the vitriol comes from. Seriously. Can you imagine if she referred to Obama as "articulate, bright and clean" like our current VP did? Clean? Really. Sounds racist to me and is certainly ignorant which nobody can dispute.

Palin is probably a bit teed off as she continues to rake in millions but has to continue to support the 47%. She is probably a bit curious (like many are) why the 47% is not more thankful that they are being supported by the rest of us.

Oh well....she is definitely laughing all the way to the bank! LOLOL!

At least she works hard for what she believes in. 47% of Americans don't contribute anything and only vote for the one that promises the most free stuff from the workers. I may not agree with her either, but will admit she works harder for her beliefs than I do for mine.

What does Sarah Palin want..

"If I only had a brain.........., you could be another lincoln, if you only had a brain....."

Zheng He

The 47%? You mean the 12% of the 47% elderly? That had jobs, paid into the system and are NOW getting back what they paid into it? You mean 8% of that 47% that are college students who make less than 20K a year? What about the 1200+ Millionaires last year that DID NOT PAY ONE cent in taxes? Did you read about romney today? Do not make the same mistakes HE MADE

What is all this FREE STUFF you are talking about? You mean when I retire, the SS/Medicare I PAY INTO is free stuff? is it free stuff when Rubio gets student loans to pay for college? Is it free stuff when Ryan used his daddies SS to go to college? Is that the free stuff?

P.S. Palin works? She works at what specifically, what is her job?

Mark from Lake Tahoe,

You silly billy, don't you know by now, Sarah is fodder for every comedian. She is toilet paper on a shoe. She is holes in a water glass. She is a skirt stuck in her pantyhose. She is the farmer who cannot sing e-i-e-i-o. She is the short end, of the stick. She is dog-do on a shoe. She is chewed bubble gum, stuck under a chair. She is a square peg in a round hole. She is a brain pickling, in formaldehyde, in a dusty jar. She is the tissue, in a wedding invitation. She is salmon swimming down stream. She is Larry, Darrell and Darrell's identical twin sister and all of their wives. She is lint in a belly button. She is toe jam. She is the first nose, to place her glasses. She is a twelve inch hot dog, minus a foot. She will be cremated because she thinks, that will be the last hot flash, she will ever have!

Sarah Palin used her fifteen minutes of fame, to prove, there are really, a lot of idiotic people, in our country, who would vote for to cut off their nose, in spite of their face. Sarah will go down in history, as the snake oil sales person, who thought, reading the Weekly Reader, was the same as reading a novel.

She wants to prove that a person lacking the intellect of a cherry stone clam can still get elected as Governor of a U.S. State, and come within a few million votes of being one heart beat away from the Presidency.

She has already proven those things but if she had entered the primaries last year she would have drawn roughly the same numbers as Bachmann and Michelle usually was in the single digits. Even most Repubs know she is a bit deranged.

If this is what conservatives want representing them in public they are doomed. What will she say? Expect the same old slanderfest. She will viciously attack Obama and claim liberals are a subversive force, attacking "American values"! And that we are running Jesus out of the public square where he is supposed to be hanging out even though there hasn't been a sighting in nearly 2000 years. Basically a rehash of Ricky's speech. But I suppose she will have to talk about the imaginary war on Christmas because that's what her new pop-up book is all about ignoring the fact that Christians appropriated the date of Jesus' supposed birth from us pagans. And that the birth story (like the rest) is clearly a concoction.

The values she represents are so flawed no rational person will listen. But she should still get massive applause from this crowd. Just look at the diversity! This is the America of the future (gag!)! Aren't we all white, ultra conservative, Bible thumping fundamentalist Christians who find theocratic fascism appealing? You betcha we are! In Sarah's mind if you aren't that you aren't an American. How much more warped can someones thinking get?

Go to YouTube and enter "Sarah Palin's church". Watch and listen to the video of her in the black dress and pilgrim shoes. Isn't this the annoying lady many of us knew at church or school who had to dominate everything and who was totally intolerant of others? That's because she's just a better person, a better Christian, a better American, than you and me! She is the living embodiment of Dana Carvey's Church Lady times two! We are the damned who will be roasting in a lake of fire while she will be living in the biggest mansion on Main St. in Heaven. And she's da-n sure of that, you BETCHA!

I saw her live back in '08. It was like watching Mussolini in jeans and a sweater. Poking her finger all over the place and swaying over the podium. I expect a repeat tomorrow only she will be wearing something more formal. Again, I betcha!

It's not a mystery at all, it's just that reasonable people who follow politics don't care about the inanity of the current republican party. But, if translated for the right wingers who still ascribe to this brand political senselessness, maybe what former secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld once said could apply to this mystery;

"There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say, we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know."

Republican punditry (an oxymoron) summed up in a nutshell!

Charlie,

Not sure why that bothers you. She is very wealthy and has earned it through ingenuity and determination. She does have one thing sort of in common with Obama. Specifically, as she is very good at getting stupid people to give her money, Obama is very, very good at getting stupid people to vote for him. @Truth Conveyor (define truth?)

Please tell us what is a low information voter, because most of them exist within the republican throngs ? I am only going to guess what you mean by the "non accountable" part and what that alludes to, but most of that group comes from red states who get the most assistance from government, which I have no problem with giving assistance. If you want to call a certain group of people "stupid" in the context of how you think this group votes, just look up Youtube rallies for Sarah where real journalists ask the throngs of unknowing ignorant followers why they don't like Obama, and the answers all but some up the republican party; it's about "hate".

I've been voting for 34 years and I have found one thing in common for the republican party starting with Reagan; they run on conservative values of less government and freedoms for everyone, with claims staying out of the private lives of people and controlling government spending. But when they get into office, they do the exact opposite except staying out of the way of the wealthy and their livelihoods. They spend like crazy, while implementing harsh intrusive social laws based on a 2000 year old religious theme.

Palin is washed up, especially in her home state. No one wants to admit they ever voted for her back in '06. All 115,000 of them. Her voice is still just as irritating as it always has been- starting back in her days as a "sports reporter". She sucked at that too. She was the reason many of us started watching other channels. If her PAC supporters haven't figured out they are merely helping to provide her a living with their contributions, they deserve what they get. The numbers- as reported in this article- proves she is only interested in getting as much money as she can without putting the majority of it into the elections, but instead paying for her "expenses".

Capt, wait, I got another!

Let's hope the second appearance of Sar-uhh Palin at the CPAC turns out better than her first did. It had to be canceled as the result of an innocent misunderstanding.

The organizers sent her the following letter:
"Dear Sarah:
"We would be honored to have you give a rousing message to all in attendance at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
"Yours Truly,
"CPAC Coordinating Committe,
"Law Offices of Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe."

The day she was to speak, Sar-uhh showed up at the hall. She immediately looked amazed by the number of attendees, as did her handlers when they noticed she wore only a cotton robe and carried a large bottle of scented oil.

When asked about her attire, Sar-uhh replied: "I wisht I woulda known so many folks were comin' fer a massage; I'da brought more lotion, you betcha!"

To be fair, it's Ms. Palin's "accomplishments" that earn her the derision she invites and so richly deserves.

Besides, not poking fun at Sar-uhh is like not laughing at The Three Stooges -- virtually impossible to do.

Possibly I buy that for about 5% of the commenting populious but beyond that amount 95% of these posters would fair far worse than Palin under an onslaught of an opposite party agenda bias media. I would doubt many or any would put their families through the gauntlet of a biased press corp for the golden parachute of a political life. Aside from that Obama has so many losers in his cabinet that far outdo Palin in the terms of Stooges (Holder, Pelosi, the long lost Weiner).

"Her first CPAC speech, in 2012, was full of red meat for the Tea Party followers she cultivated, particularly during the health care reform battle and election of 2010. She spent much of her 37-minute speech extolling the conservative movement and attacking President Barack Obama, earning cheers of “Sar-ah! Sar-ah!” at points during the speech.

But now that Obama’s won a second four-year term, it’s unclear whether Palin might dig in and further oppose the president, or re-position herself for future relevance within the Republican Party."

Relevance? Yawn. Even FoxNews dumped this half-term has been after her 15-minutes had long run out. There isn't enough lipstick in the world to make this pig "relevant." You can't create substance from a vacuum.

Stop Funding Illegals;

Wow so why is it that you left wing loony bins get all worked up about Palin speaking? You say she is washed up yet you give this so much play time, not sure I get it...

Yet, here you are worrying about us so called "left wing looony bins", go figure!

So she is a beautiful woman,

So? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and has little to do with smarts in the context of your remark. I think that Kirstin Gillibrand is attractive, but I would vote for her on her intelligence and her ethics, not on her looks.

has a head on her shoulders,

Everyone walking human being has one, so what?;

has an opinion and yes she isn't ever going to win any elections. That is beside the point.... is it that no female can prosper outside your left wing brainwashed party?

But that is the point; she will never win elections based on the choices she made, the words she has spoken and rightfully so that she didn't win based on that. Her opinions consist only of talking points and banal cliched values, nothing regarding real policies or ideas that would farther our great country. Yet while you make that claim about women inside our politics, the women that represent the vast majority of those in congress, are democrats, so how does that measure up with your claims. Think misogyny when you think contemporary republicanism.

Fortunately, there are more critically thinking people in this country than there are right wing sheep. If that means I am a liberal (or part of a left wing brainwashed party), I will wear that title with honors. Keep in mind, she was mostly responsible for McCain losing the presidency and she walked away from being governor of Alaska, after that loss, only 18 months after taking that state office, because she felt too many of her political enemies were after her paranoid mind. If she gave up that position so readily on such simplistic reasoning, why would you want her to be second in line to the most powerful position in our government? Are you sure who is really brain washed?

I really just don't get why you are all so dedicated to ridiculing someone who by your own words is washed up... jealousy or scared I suppose, definitely insecure. I suppose you would rather bow beneath your little bull dog the Presidents fall guy err uhhh gal Rice?

Yet you just said she was washed up, and she is. The most unethical lying network on TV fired her for her inability to make sense or proffer real ideas. Gobbledygook can only go so far, even there. At least our president is well spoken, has great ideas and can articulate them in detail. Name one republican that has done that in the last 8 years other than appealing to the lowest level/information voters in this country. If your brand of politics are so great, this last election, even with all of the republican election shenanigans, sure gave us all a different result.

What's in front of me, I want to know, because you haven't offered anything? It's really an interesting rationalization that Palin is insignificant to you, considering that within that same breath how much you praise her. Are you really not following your own words, or is that a condition of being a right winger?

If by getting my attention means you made some valid point, you failed terribly! Like nearly all republicans who get there support from the lowest information voters in this country, they offer no real ideas, just like you did right here. You can't give one real policy change, other than bleating the same McConnell, Ryan, Paul ideas that are not realistic solutions as much as simplistic policies without detail of their consequences. You just express disdain to certain politics that don't fit the right wing talking points to which you ascribe.

Tommy I don't support or deny anyone's ability or right to do just about anything within reason, it's not for me but hey to each their own, it's the least of my issues. I said less government didn't I. Live and let live... I side left on some and right on others but with this administration I find very few if anything to side with their liars, opaque and two faced. Stop the war on drugs maybe but they can't even decide what side of that they are on. Pro 2nd amendmant, pro-choice.... would the right have been better? Well let's just say it could not have been worse, were asking for accountability here... they got elected now do the fu#$in job. A libertarian is for less government intrusion into peoples lives, do the will of the people, stop making senseless laws and most of all take senseless laws off the books. You just said do the will of the people, and the electorate spoke in huge numbers. That, in spite of the fact that election shenanigans were attempted to change that outcome. The majority of people disagree with you and not on personal liberties. So, again, your position is unclear. You say "anything within reason", yet, there is no clarification on that and you seem to want to limit those who don't ascribe to your reasoning. What is anything within reason?? You can't make claim to rights that somehow are infringed though they are those you ascribe to that you would infringe onto others.

I've learned one main theme from today's libertarianism and conservatism. Libertarianism and conservatism have never been what libertarians and conservatives say they are. In the end, they want others to live the way they want.

@Honestdeabte: Please define "liberal" and you may want to re-think your screen name, because it isn't honest.

For me, being liberal is leaving the lives of people to themselves without biased interference/or a majority of people making preferences that allow lawmakers to be able (or have confidence) to hold a few, or an individual, to a lower level of rights to those who disagree with them. Like holding down homosexuals from having the same civil rights that I have as a straight person. But when we use 2nd amendment rights, that in today's time frame, have consistently violated one's right to a safe life (don't twist this term of right to life into another topic, you'll fail miserably) because the amendment was written at a time when technology wasn't what it is today, then we become a uncompromising society based on some personal liberty that supersedes human life in the name of liberty.

D.B. Akron - here's a clue. Nobody really cares what Palin wants. Her political star reached its apogee 5 years ago, when she was chosen as the Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. If she wasn't a strikingly attractive woman she'd have been forgotten 4 years ago.

It is simple. If McCain won, she would have become President because there is no way he could have handled the stress of the office. The "left" loves this country and the thought of putting Palin in charge when she couldn't even run a city of 15,000 efficiently, couldn't name one news source she read and thought she was a foreign policy expert because Alaska is near Russia was a legitimate threat to our country. Anyone on the "right" who thinks her presidency would have been anything but a disaster is deluded.

As far as Sarah earning every dime, that is a complete joke, she cooked the books in Alaska, she lined her pockets with oil industry lobbyist money, then when she QUIT the governors job she drove around in a big bus with her face plastered on the side taking money from people under the pretence that she was going to run for president, which she never did, and she just kept the money. Her Pac took in $5 million in 2012 under false pretences and only handed out $160,000 dollars, the woman belongs in prison, along with most of the other crooks who were invited to CPAC.

Irvmani, the right is who kills children by killing food stamps, by killing WIC, by killing the school lunch program. The left just aborts dividing clumps of cells. We actually care about the children once they are born where as the right treats them like slaves by doing away with the child labor laws here in the states and by supporting sweat shops around the world. Conservatives could care less about "the children" other than how much they can profit off their cheap labor, you destroy more viable embryos on the floors of invitro clinics in one month in your twisted attempt to pop out dozens of kids to increase your numbers than are killed in a years worth of abortions.

Conservatives try to make fun of Liberals by calling them treehuggers and nature lovers while you worship all that is plastic, polluting, toxic and evil. If it is harmful for the environment or the health of humans and the other creatures on the planet conservatives worship it like it is a gift from their imaginary god.

Your patriotism is as plastic as most of the conservative bimbos who fill the mega churches every sunday in a vain attempt to justify their greed and selfishness. You drive around in your foriegn made cars with your made in China plastic flag decals on the back and think that makes you patriotic. You have perverted the true meaning of the word patriotism, you don't love this country and you never have, you only love the profit you can make by using our army to plunder the worlds natural resources in the name of spreading democracy, you only love the corporate theocracy that you dream of turning America into. Most of the conservative mouth pieces who claim to be uber-patriots like Limbaugh, ORiley and Nugent all dodged the draft while my uncles fought and died in Vietnam. Nugent, mr. patriotic himself, wore a dirty diaper for two weeks to get out of going to Nam, while my uncles, both liberals, volunteered and took the most dangerous jobs available.

People like you and Sarah make me sick, you are everything that is wrong with this nation.

Tommy, The reason I would say "they believe in freedoms within reason" from a libertarian point of view is due to the extremist views of the left and constantly taking things out of context and twisting them to their own likings. Let's give you an example or two. I believe in legalizing drugs, well if I say that and leave it at that, you would jump to the conclusion I mean all drugs, meth, heroine, acid you name it, not what I mean there are limits. I believe in the right to bear arms, and that pretty much means about any arms, this is where the government is overstepping it's boundaries, to limit the rights and abilities of a free people who have done no wrong is in itself criminal. The government isn't good at anything they try and do, good intentions do not make good law. For instance the background checks. Illinois requires a FOID card (involves a background check). In order to own a gun you must have one, renewable every ten years. They simply drag their feet and disobey their law of a thirty day turn around on your renewal background check and you are instantly a felon owning guns illegally. So you think we should trust them to do this nationally? One day they simply decide not to process these for any reason and every gun owner is the disobeying the law and considered a felon. The government can't be trusted to make laws that don't have an alternative motive, as they always have an underlying agenda. Trust Obama to drone only terrorists... who decides who a terrorist is? Just a little law here and a bigger law later to further reduce your rights and it is a slippery slope. Holder gives guns away to drug cartels and then goes after law abiding citizens guns rights, seriously how hypocrytical and were suppose to trust them? They let our people die in Benghazi and then don't come clean on the fact that they screwed up, no accountability, and were suppose to trust them? Obama twists this sequestor into sounding like the government is giving some big chunk of existing revenue up when in fact it is a decrease in a raise in spending. Then goes on to preach how it will decimate teachers, firefighters and about every other municipal funded group (not federally funded). These are outright lies to scare the public into siding with them and blowing an issue way out of proportion just to get his way. Seriously they couldn't cut anything out of trillions in spending? They have a crack addiction to our hard earned money. To give away free healthcare to a family of four earning $90K a year while if someone works hard to get a raise and makes a thousand over that they pay their $800 or so through their employer funded healthcare, what an incentive to go out and work, all this while federal and state employees have golden parachute plans and aren't subject to layoff, their employment factors for wages and benefits are so out of control it isn't even funny, yet we the people have to just keep paying more so they don't suffer but we do. So you like this administration hugh...

She spent much of her 37-minute speech extolling the conservative movement and attacking President Barack Obama, earning cheers of “Sar-ah! Sar-ah!” at points during the speech.

And therein lies the problem. Maybe if she had spent less time attacking Obama and more time giving us reasons that she should have been nominated, she might have done a lot better.

Not sure what planet or reality you live on, but I like to call where I live "Earth". In this reality, President Obama has definitely made allot of changes. I can name a few here, but there are hundreds more all you have to do is use a keyboard and a computer and there are lists of all he has done.

        1. Repealed the don't ask don't tell peace of cr&p legislation.

        2. Homosexuals can now openly join the military and fight for the Country they so love.

        3. Completely changed the health care system for the better.

        4. Turned the economy around, stock market has never been better. Housing prices are going back to normal. Employment rate has dropped to below when he took office in spite of the GOP trying to keep it high.

and so on and so on. What has Sarah P. done for this country, but grip about everything in her folksy jargon trying to sound cute, but never actually coming up with solutions of her own. Even fox news fired her. Why the Republicans immortalize her is beyond everyone with a IQ above 20 which is anyone who is not a Republican.

the stock market is up......for now.

other than repealing the don't ask don't tell piece of crap legislation that's all you can come up with ?

Now for the rest of the united states population in other words about 99% of the rest of us. Healthcare.... NOT it is worthless overcost mismanaged legislations that hasn't even kicked in yet and as usual you lefties claim it a huge victory before you have even read about it. Economy turned around? On what exactly, Obama hasn't done anything the market is good because people keep their money on the sidelines only so long. Obama doesn't have any input into the Market he has even said as much in his own speaches, you know those speaches, the one thing he does know how to do.

I asked you to use the keyboard you have and the computer attached to it to research and you would find a list of hundreds more examples. Apparently you are unable to read and follow instructions. No matter, I expect as much from Republicans. As far as the market is concerned, if the President made poor judgment calls on laws and other issues he has enacted, then the market would have tanked. Regardless of what you say, this is true. Sounds like your daughter shows better judgment then you do. Good for her.

This from a person who can't pay her way, has no clue about life itself other than thinking it is a party and she is at the center of it, yep sounds like a Democrat, clueless, priorities and basis for judgement totaly skewed and off base, out of touch. Thanksfully this is her biggest shortcoming and Thank God the only one in the family, a younger brother who understands economics and barely 20 has more money, stable job, and understands politics. Hmm... ask yourself which path is better. Research with my computer you say? Please take your own advise to heart and open your mind.... also not a Republican here.... I can't see how she was capable of telling her voters what her platform was and why they considered that it was acceptable, and how the system allows someone, such as she,to make millions trying,as she claimed, to be running for a high political office. I would be the last to say that she used her somewhat good looks to maybe offer sexual favors to grease the wheels. I am totally certain that she would not give certain key male figures bj's or other sexual favors for advancement. I think anyone who might suggest such a thing is totally off base. I mean, to even consider that she did things like that behind closed doors is unthinkable. That is why I am stating right here and now that I do not think in the least that she could have worked her way up t he ladder the old fashion way that women used to do. No, not me, so don't even think about the possibility that she may of traded sex for favors, because we all know that it would not be true, right? By the way, did anyone do a dna test on her last born? I am sure it would be a match for her and her husband.

          ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You know exactly the ones I'm referring to. Social Security is not free; working Americans paid in to that plan all their working lives. Student loans are not free, they are loans. As far as the free stuff goes, you know exactly who they are; they game the system for money others work for and sell their votes in return for promises of more free stuff from hard working Americans. I don't care what Romney said today, it's irrelevant, it's one mans opinion.

Palin's idiocy is surpassed only by that of her followers. She's a shining example of why the Republican Party needs to distance themselves from the far right conservatives if they ever want to have relevance in American politics again. Throw out the billionaires. Let them be the Tea Party and see how they do. The Republican Party needs to get back to representing the American people, and not just the rich ones. People like this make "Conservative" a dirty word and one to be ashamed of.

Not sure why it is getting so much coverage. I guess it is MSNBC hoping to sort through 30 hours worth of speeches to find about 30 second worth of sound bytes that they can take out of context.

No more of a cult gathering than the joke of the catholic church's boring stupidity that has been shoved under our nose for the last few weeks. Unlike the preference of catholic priests for their congregations children, I like seeing a nice looking woman even if she is as dumb as a stump.

Am hugely surprised once she was a competent governor in Alaska, am guessing the legislature there was taken by her good looks.

She was very successful. She was able to work with both sides of the aisle. She was a little over her head, but she is much smarter than most give her credit for. She wasn't ready for prime time, but she is probably better suited to be VP than Biden.....I don't know many that are worse.....maybe Boxer.

I'd say that, opposed to Cheney, she's have made an excellent choice as VP., but in 2008, I wasn't sure about McCain's longevity, so there was NO WAY to put Palin a heartbeat away.

                            #6.5 - Fri Mar 15, 2013 10:26 PM EDT

Yes Biden is a gaff machine and he's good for a laugh - doesn't take himself too seriously. But unlike Cheney, he's not hiding under rocks, he's out there fighting the good fight by taking on Wayne Lapierre and the gun lobby. Meanwhile Palin who never even completed her term as guvner of Alaska has parlayed all this exposure into a serious cash machine and she's milking it for all it's worth. . Books (lol), speaking engagements, reality shows, Dancing with the stars for Bristol, what else. Not creating many jobs though. Not much to offer the Republican party either. You do know that she cost McCain the election? And since then, she's done nothing but enrich herself. What's truly bizarre is that Palin and Trump are at CPAC and Chris Christie is not. She must have one hell of an agent is all I can say.

John what is amazing is that there are people who can follow her train of thought. And as far as "competent" governor is concerned, ask a dyed-in-the-wool Alaskan how competent she was. She is the one who built the bridge to nowhere. Look on Google around Ketchikan, close up along the shorelines. You'll find it. It goes from one empty space to another.

Remember Sarah Palin resigned from her job as Governor of Alaska.

She quit because she wanted to be in the spotlight - FOX News was a better gig.

Now - well, she wants attention again (for her new anti-traditional Christmas book) and to make money.

Why anyone would listen to her, vote for her or take her advise on Christmas beliefs, or what, is beyond me.

They (the Saddens among us) REFUSE to acknowledge what their opposition REALLY is but rather try to cloak their racism and hatred of THIS President in the guise of political debate and/or opposition when the fact of the matter is that their position has nothing or, at the very least, little to do with politics.

So, sometimes I have to resort to entertaining myself when I encounter the insanity.

You do realize those threadbare lines you're spouting were worn out 4-1/2 years ago? I know, 'original thought' is about as anti-conservative as one can get, so it was to be expected.

"Conservative" - 'resistant to change'. Frankly, I wonder how anyone could seriously adopt such a philosophy, when 'change' is the only constant in the entire universe.

I've read the constitution virtually every week for nearly 60 years. Likewise continual reading of the Federalist papers, John Locke, Edmund Burke, John Stuart Mill, Frederic Bastiat, The Jefferson and Washington letters, and much more.

Perhaps you can enlighten me how my statements contradict the Constitution?

Republican's are strong supporters of the constitution when it comes to their guns, then, not so much. The hatred by the right of the ACLU whose only role is defending the constitution proves this to be true.

The Constitution along with the Bill of Rights were written to protect all peoples rights not just the ones you select to be protected. Oh and God was not put into the Pledge of Allegiance until the 1950's but by your time line you would remember that. Sorry I guess I should tell you that as a kid in school at the start of class we all stood up a recited the Pledge. I find it somewhat sad that that stopped.

Larry is locked into a worldview that facts and realities won't sway. He's a true conservative that very much dislikes original thought, critical thinking, freethinking or, especially, tolerance.

He's comfortable with his beliefs, and won't abandon them. He has ever right to hold his views, and has no right whatever to dictate anyone else's. That's the real rub - he can't control those that disagree with him.

Quick! Someone call Tina Fay and tell her there's still time to prepare a routine for the Saturday Night Live broadcast tomorrow!

After all, an analysis of the cogent (snort!) points of Sar-uhh's speech should take 35 seconds, tops, assuming she's limited to a 1-hour slot.

I'd hate to see this opportunity wasted, and Ms. Fay is pretty good at improv.

51% of all Americans do not pay taxes... why would they want a Party that expects them to produce to help America?

If you disagree, I wouldn't be surprised if you're one of the 51%... no one bit surprised, at all...

                                          Sadden American 2012

You can't even spell your own name right. "Saddened" perhaps? And you come here spouting that BS 47% Mitt Romney horse feathers crap...

You know what? My father, retired 23 years Navy, and my mother, retired 25 years hospitality services, are part of the so-called 47% you are bashing. Both now drawing on SS and Dad's navy pension.

Go shove your useless drivel about someone, my parents!!!, "getting off their collective butts" up YOUR collective butt.

People like you STILL have not gotten it, why YOU LOST the election. Nobody LISTENS to you, nobody CARES what you have to say. you say the same things over and over and over.

Go away. carry your "collective butt" back under the rock you crawled out from under.

And stop INSULTING "47%" of people you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

BTW, I myself have been working in the healthcare/hospital medical field for almost 20 years.

What do YOU do to contribute to society?

51%? What percentage of that are people that aren't of working age?

That 51%, according to the GOA, does NOT include retirees OR those serving in US Government jobs overseas...

I paid $8999 in taxes this year. So I think by your standards Saddened, I have a right to say something.

Do you know why 51% of Americans won't be paying taxes? Because they don't even earn enough to qualify to pay taxes. That is the real truth in America. 1% of the country holds 40% of the wealth in this country and 99% SHARE 60%.

If your so angry about 51% of the country NOT paying taxes then you should be blaming the corporations out there that UNDER pay the average worker. Do you know Walmart on of the higest profit earning countries in the world, actually off seminars to new front line employees on how to apply for Welfare! So while you in Walmart next time because you think stuff is cheaper, please realize your tax dollars are going to supplement their employees, while the company makes billons.

There was a time in this country when the average worker made a decent living but the greed of the wealthy have erroded away the economic balance and now the middle class is more like the working poor. It is not that workers are working less in fact, sutdies show that workers are more productive than ever in this country, workers are just not getting the benefit of the hard work. When CEOs earn 380% more than the average worker there is something WRONG!!

If we keep going at this pace there will be NO middle class. There will be the ruling class and the slave class.

Oregoninblue- if the middle class are disappearing as you say, how come their numbers continue to grow?

How come we still have upward mobility in this country? 300,000 new millionaires according to one article this week on MSNBC.

What we have is a changing economy and a great many Americans doing nothing to adapt to that change.

If you are not increasing your income or quality of life in this country, it's your fault. Not the fault of corporations or the wealthy.

The 47% non sense is merely a Republican talking point for the idiots in their party. The largest number of that 47% are working poor who pay no taxes due to republican policies. When Reagan did his tax cut and reforms he raised the point people owed any taxes and doubled the personal exemption so over 10 million former tax payers no longer owed. Bush's tax cuts dumped even more from the roles. Romney's 20% cut and consolidation of brackets would have raised the 47% to 55% in one stroke. It makes little sense to demonize people for paying no taxes when your policies cause it.

Funny how you can quote liberal sources when it suits your agenda. If such a small stock market increase created x number of millionaires they were barely below being millionaires, and a small decrease will make them un-millionaires again.

Sadden, I would like to kick your butt. I had a dyed-in-the-wool Republican boss. When it was too late for me to look for another job age-wise in the industry, he stopped giving me meaningful wage increases (every 3 yrs whether you need it or not!!). When I told him it was time for a raise, he point blank told me---"I simply can't pay you what I would pay a man. A man has a family he has to support." I was a single mother--my son's father was dead. I guess, though, in the Republican mentality that doesn't qualify as a family. So shove your comments, pal. I will NEVER VOTE for another Republican as long as I live, unless the opponent is a bigger a-hole. By the way, his taxes were SIX FIGURES.

Way to go Tess. I'm so sorry that happened. To the rest of my liberal friends about Sarah. Sadden truly believes this thing about the 47 percent. He honestly thinks we are lazy and do-less. Undeserving. We had another like that. Ayn Rand. Then, Paul Ryan in the modern. Fortunately, those people are being more regulated to the sidelines. Take the election of Pope Francis. Advocate for the poor. Sadden and Paul Ryan, the opposite. Sarah is the same. It's what rich people do. My pastor tells me to view rich people the way God does ... as in desperate need of prayer and intervention. I'm not there yet, though. I still believe the French Revolution gave the wealthy what they deserve, the chopping block.

                                          Saddened (spelled correctly),

What's wrong with emptying bed pans? That means someone is actually doing a job that is helping another human being that can't fend for themselves and they are at one of the weakest points of their lives. Obviously you believe taking care of others is a worthless proposition. I am an RN in a specialized field and I am thankful for people who take care of others. I pay taxes. I buy American. I own a gun. I take care of people who can't take care of themselves and sometimes I empty bedpans when needed.

I have some really bad news for you 47% believing people. Many of my patients are staunch Republican conservatives who are on medicare because of a chronic disease and in many cases was brought on by their own behaviors. They don't work and rely on the government to provide for them. And I love my patients! I don't have the slightest problem with being able to pay my taxes so that the less fortunate have care when they need it. I don't have the slightest issue with making sure they are treated with kindness, fairness, and compassion. Simply because they have a different political position has no impact on my feelings of care for them. In a country that has so much, there is no reason for any person to be on the street, children without homes or food, or people dying because they need medical treatment.

*sorry to the rest of the group for the rant. Back to topic*

Sarah Palin is a mystery to me. She took over Wasilla as Mayor and completely brought financial ruination to the town. Before Sarah Palin, zero debt. When she left, the town was millions in debt that couldn't be serviced. Her Mayoral legacy is of a hockey arena that can't pay for its self and a town drowning in debt. As Governor, she was absent for most of her tenure due to the VP bid. (Which I don't fault her for. She saw an opportunity to participate on a bigger scale.) However, when she got back, she abdicated and left her job! She left the people that voted for her because the job became too difficult for her to do. She cashed in on her celebrity instead. She had a responsibility to her people. She abandoned them so she could do reality TV, speaking engagements, and work for Fox news. What message does that send?

Yes, Sarah is not a well informed political person. She does not know much about the world around her. Does this make her a bad person? No. Of course not. Does it make her a bad politician? Of course it does.

Sadden, you have mentioned her governship in several posts as proof that she is qualified to be POTUS. The population of Alaska is 731,449 - Jul 2012 47th out of 50 in lowest population. The population of the US is 313,914,040 - Jul 2012; with 50 different state governments deciding local agenda. How does managing the largest land mass state make a person eligible for managing the total population of the US? In reality, there are very few people from any party with any previous experience that is qualified to take on the role as POTUS. Oh wait, there is one, his recent employment includes 4 years running the country as POTUS. Not perfect, but light years more qualified than Ms Palin.

saddened, Sara QUIT being Governor in her first term. Because she thought it was to stressful on her state. Do you really think she wouldn't quit being President? Face it, she is a quitter and quitters never win!

Wow, I have looked over several of your posts here and elsewhere on Newsvine, and I have some advice:

Spellchecker is your friend. And you didn't even spell your OWN name right. :(

I am "saddened" by your comments.

With a population of 320 million and a budget of 3.5 trillion every man, woman and child in the U.S. has to pay around $11,000 a year in federal taxes to pay your share or $44,000 for a family of 4. If you aren't paying that much you aren't paying your share much less anyone else's.

I see no reason to disparage perfectly fine posts. At least they have a purpose.

Egad Sadden, AK is the largest land mass in the US but I think population wise they are relativly small. It is better to keep your mouth shut and look stupid than it is to open it and remove all doubt. MRI_Virginia said it best.

"Sarah Palin arrives Saturday in Washington at an uncertain point in her political career."

She quit as Alaska governor... she doesn't have a political career. Her contract was not renewed with Fox... she doesn't have a career at all. End of story.

There's always one of the outdoor channels on cable. Or, a soap opera. Yeah, soap opera, THAT'S the ticket! Hell, she wouldn't even have to act!!

I would suggest a reality show for Sarah, but then, her and reality haven't ever crossed paths.

Oh goodie, the dizzy broad from Alaska was invited by CPAC to contribute her critical thinking skills to the party conversation on how to right the ship.

And, it is reminded, that the same CPAC disinvited Chris Christie, who has a 74% approval rating in a heavily Democratic state (which is completely unheard of in NJ) because he dared work with President Obama on disaster relief for his constituents in the worst of times.

Thank you CPAC for your infinite wisdom. I suspect all Democrats are smiling.

I am from Alaska...we don't claim her either. Seems she has a house down in the southwest somewhere and we haven't seen her for a while (Thank God!). She laughs all the way to the bank because those gulible types are donating to keep her in money. The only darn thing she wants is the spotlight and thanks to NBC, she got it.
