The Republican Party’s internal struggle over how to expand its reach will play out in stark relief at this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference, with activists locked in a near-civil war over the basic question of who should be part of the movement – and who should not.
This year’s meeting has already made news with its exclusion of notable names from the invite list: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.
There will be plenty of conservative stars, like Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Rand Paul of Kentucky, along with 2012 vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan (among other potential 2016 presidential candidates). And attendees will have a chance to reacquaint themselves with familiar names and faces from the not-so-distant past such as Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and the ubiquitous Donald Trump.
Why did CPAC make another snub? Jim VandeHei joins Morning Joe to discuss.
But the annual conservative confab comes at a serious and crucial moment for the Republican Party: Its last two presidential nominees lost decisively to President Barack Obama, and its lone instrument of power -- the GOP majority in the House -- has been constantly plagued by infighting between conservative insurgents and its establishment-minded leadership.
And the American right seems as divided as ever over the path forward.
“I think, increasingly, we as Republicans have come across as intolerant and unfocused on the needs of the underserved,” said Fred Malek, a fixture of GOP politics for decades.
“And we need to speak much more to the aspirational needs of people, and not speak about the dependence of the ‘47 percent,’” he added, referencing 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s infamous comments, “but rather how the ‘47 percent’ become part of the 25 percent or 10 percent or 1 percent.”
Ideological fealty to marginalize GOP?
That internal struggle threatens to spill into the open at CPAC, a gathering that has been established as an important gathering for official Republicans, yet still attracts the kind of stalwart conservative activists who have helped to ignite this GOP family feud.
“I thought it was a mistake to exclude Christie,” said Vin Weber, a former Republican congressman who remains active in the party’s political leadership. “It reinforces this narrow, closed stereotype of Republicans.”
Christie angered conservatives by agreeing to implement insurance exchanges under Obama’s health care reform law, and for praising the president’s handling of Hurricane Sandy just days before the election. McDonnell upset conservatives with his new transportation law, which includes some new taxes.
“I would argue that they do not have too much to offer up in terms of the future of the conservative movement,” Jeff Bell, of the American Principles Project, said of the two governors.
Those warring views cut to the heart of the modern GOP’s internal rift. On one side are conservatives who are eager to excommunicate Republicans who commit the slightest act of ideological heresy. The other faction is composed of Republicans who worry that the party’s insistence on ideological fealty will continue to marginalize the GOP amid a changing electorate.
Though no immediate resolution is in sight, the Republican National Committee will weigh in following its own autopsy of the party’s shortcomings during last fall’s elections. It will recommend improved digital operations and a more robust outreach, but is also expected to emphasize the need for some candidates to speak in less shrill terms about sensitive issues.
“We can’t run the same campaigns. For some, it means that boneheaded comments about rape and women – that’s just not going to fly,” said a source familiar with the report, referencing GOP Senate candidates in Indiana and Missouri who lost winnable races last fall due to their controversial comments about rape.
Romney's first remarks since election
The forthcoming RNC report and this week’s CPAC gathering add up to a potentially pivotal week for the future of the party.

Sen. Marco Rubio addresses the American Conservative Union's annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, February 9, 2012.
And though McDonnell and Christie were excluded from the gathering, other corners of the GOP will be well-represented. Tea Party darlings like Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn. and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, will each speak.
Also on display will be conservatives who may hope to unify the GOP as the party’s presidential nominee in 2016. Along with Rubio, Paul and Ryan, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will also address attendees.
The influential conference concludes with an oft-hyped, closely watched straw poll of attendees’ preference in a presidential nominee.
A past winner of two such straw polls, Romney, will make his first public speech since the election on Friday. And former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, whose national star power has waxed and waned in the scope of a single presidential election cycle, will speak on Saturday.
“There’s going to be a lot of heat, but not much light,” on the presidential front said Craig Shirley, a Reagan biographer and conservative PR guru. “It’s not going to resolve itself until the first stirrings of the 2014 midterm elections.”

Gotta love the lineup of speakers. Does the GOP even WANT to be a major political party anymore?
This article really lays bare the fact that Repubs just don't want to evolve. They are happy serving a very specific group of people. I understand that there is a large percentage of people in this country who are conservative, and they deserve a voice. But if Repubs want to be a ruling party, they are going to have genuinely open up their tent to people who have views that aren't 100% in alignment with theirs.
Palin, Trump, Romney but no Christie? No new tricks from these old dogs...
CPAC has become nothing more than a circular firing squad. I can't wait for the Saturday Night Live sketch about this gathering of buffoons.
As comedian Ron White said "You can't fix stupid."
They refuse to change their policies to better reflect the will of the American People. They may try and change their language to make it appear that they have changed, but that's just PR trickery. The tide has turned against them, and the water is up to their knees. Any of their number that points this out, is banished. Soon the gerimandering will no longer be enough to keep them relivant, and Americans will again be free to think for themselves.
If I was you brown I wouldn't worry about the lineup, my guess you are a left-wing liberal democrat anyway. Let them run their show the way they want, if it hurts them it is what you want anyway, isn't it? I keep waiting for you to run for office because I want to vote for you because you are soooooo smart (I have read your past posts).
Why thank-you very much Army. I'm glad to hear that you enjoy my posts and that if I ran you would switch sides and vote for me. Wow, I may have to consider running...
My guess is that Armysf was brain washed by the Military to be a rightie. I served 10 years and was put into investigations because I wasn't afraid to break up the "good ole boy" corruption that occurs in some units. Seems like if the Col. or Cap. was invovled so was the SMG or 1SG. Oh and I had a problem with authority. I wouldn't follow their BS so they didn't know what to do with me. They hid me is an obscure CID office in the FRG. I'm out now. Was a leftie then and a leftie now. I still love my guns though.
The one idea both side of the republicon factions agree on is the destruction of America. The night President Obama took office, the republicons pledged against America, pledged to vote and obstruct any bill that would be good for America, just to try to keep President Obama from looking good in elections. They have succeeded at a record pace.
America needs jobs, so what do republicons do? They obstruct the bill on 7-19-12 that would end the tax breaks for companies who take American jobs overseas. They obstruct in the same bill giving tax breaks to companies that would bring American jobs back to America.
Why did they do this? Republicons like Romney love how they can take the jobs overseas, pay a lesser wage to make a higher profit, then they can keep those profits in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes in America.
Republicons love making the headquarters for their companies in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, just to avoid paying taxes in America.
If you want to destroy America, Vote republicon party, the party of NO TO AMERICA!
Republicons pledge to their King Norquist never to raise taxes on the rich.....they took the oath of their office, then pledge to King Norquist to give as much money to the rich 1% at any cost to the country. Aiding the cause to destroy America and take the money offshore to avoid paying American taxes. TRAITORS!
The right calls Obama divisive because he wanted to raise taxes on those who'd had their rates cut in half over the last 30 years. Yet they see no divisiveness in Ryans plan that would raise taxes on the 98% as they clearly believe raising taxes on the wealthy smacks of hate and envy but tax increases on the middle class is purely responsible governing.
Personally I think a party that creates animosity by the 53% toward the 47% even though most are retiree's that paid their share or over seas military who do so every day is the divisive party. How is a party anti women's rights, anti gay, anti poor and anti minority the inclusive party and the party for all Americans the divisive one?
There is no hope for the Republican Party. Until they stop obstructing and listen to the will of the people, instead of their own ideology over everything else, they will continue to lose. I will work as hard as possible to make it so. They are making it easy.
Gov. Chris Christie and Gov. Bob McDonnell are centrists. Even Rand Paul sounds refreshing with his promise to cut defense.
Paul Ryan is already a cooked goose- damaged good.
Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Donald Trump?? Hahahahahahahahaha
Liberals seem so giddy for some unknown reason. As if this country is actually doing better with the liberals choice of a community organizer sitting in the Oval Office. Obama is amassing debt this country will never be able to repay and it is being piled on the backs of every American for generations to come. ObamaCare will go down as one of the all time worst pieces of legislation ever conceived. But why wouldn't it, since only the most liberal members of the Democrat party wrote the bill behind closed doors in secret locations with the help of self serving special interest groups. ObamaCare was the first bill that needed to pass so everyone could find out what was in it. Taxes are on the rise, spending out of control, and Obama has the nation mired in the worst recovery in US history. Liberals excel at blame, excuses, and gross exaggerations. Liberals can spend the rest of their lives trying to convince themselves Obama was the best person for the job, but history will treat him very harshly, and it will be well deserved. For liberals to suggest that conservatives need to change their message because the nation was duped by Obama, your day of enlightenment is fast approaching.
Have you ever watched a dog chase its tail? That seems to be the way the GOP/Baggers are using to "self sooth" their spanking in Nov. Wonder what they will do after they get stomped in 2014?...bite off their foot is my guess. Sad to watch my old party implode.
Rick turn off Fox, tune out Rush...and give up the "TEA" dear. You will feel better. The GOP is dead.
I wonder if the speakers will brag about the welfare they give to the rich, all the tax breaks. 1 in 4 profitable corporations pay no taxes whatsoever because they have so many tax loopholes. Big Oil testified they do not need the billions of dollars in subsidies from the republicons, so what do republicons do? They block the vote to remove the subsidies, they block the welfare to the rich so they can get big campaign contributions from the rich.
Republicon party, the party for the rich welfare queens who then take profits and hide them in offshore accounts to avoid paying American taxes.
Pubes are representative of their electorate. Just like the Dimocraps are representative of the electorate. That's America. Unless you're too brainwashed to comprehend this that is. Neither Party "rules". That should bother any American. Americans should never be ruled. Unless of course you're stupid enough to vote strictly Dimocrap.
I'm an American, period. Both political parties are just that; political parties. Neither should EVER rule America. That's Communism=totalitarianism. America was prosperous before the Dimocraps started dictating what we think, do and say. Keep in mind Capitalism-=FREEDOM! Or does the brainwashed liberal/Nazis/neo-Communists comprehend the concept?
GRIDLOCK IS GOOD FOR AMERICA!
That's a concise summary of this article and the GOP in the early 21st century...
How is it possible for a party that deliberately excludes any diversity in its own thinking to represent a diverse nation of 312 million people?
This GOP will put together a budget that raises taxes on the 98% and turn around and say if the Dems want to raise taxes on the 2% it's "stealing". Pitiful.
"Liberals seem so giddy for some unknown reason. As if this country is actually doing better with the liberals choice of a community organizer sitting in the Oval Office."
Guess what -- the nation IS DOING BETTER!!
Facts Republicans Hate:
Job losses per month in January 2008: 800,000
Job gains last month: 260,000
35 straight months of private sector job growth
GDP growth in 2008: negative 6%
GDP growth last year 3.1%
Dow Jones Average in January 2008: Under 8000
Dow Jones Average today: 14,300+ Record high
Record domestic oil production
GM – all time record profits
Near record corporate profits across the board
Osama Bin Laden --- dead
Iraq war --- over
That's the message they need to get out, because that is the last thing democrats want. When the "47%" are no longer dependent, they will stop voting for their own entitlements and will vote for the country again.
Gee charlie, when you compare the crappy numbers we have now with the numbers right after a huge crash, they almost don't look pathetic...almost.
The bad thing is you can NOT get these IDIOTS that are the TAKERS to actually get off there dead asses and get a JOB. They are simply OK with taking the handouts and just getting by, as some also have there drug dealing that helps them get more cash. I say instead of having a federal or state income tax they need to put in a higher sales tax, that way even the drug dealers that never report there earnings & the rest of those people that work under the table for cash will be paying there fair share also.
We already know the rich would be paying MORE because they spend MORE. That would get evereyone involved in supporting the government & helping pay down the NATIONAL debt. Just remember when they get the debt paid down they will NOT take any of the taxes back down as they will figure out some way to WASTE the extra money, like giving themselves another RAISE.
Look at the speakers --- Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump to mention a few. This may be the biggest collection of losers since the 50th reunion of the 1962 New York Mets.
Charlie so with GM having alltime record profits then why are we the taxpayers stuck with a 20 billion dollar bill for the bailout. I bet I could take 20 billion dollars of taxpayer money and have record profits also. They actually took 45 billion and only are paying back 25 billion hope you can see where I got the 20 billion from.
Wait I will help you liberals out. 45B - 25B = 20B left over that will never get paid back.
Starsailing, the destruction of America is well under way with Obama leading the charge still attempting to "fundamentally changing America" and our Constitution. He is the enemy from within along with those have been foolishly mesmerized by his delusional ideologies.
Our current national debt is proof of his incompetence and the deliberate financial suicide of this great country with policies that have no end in out control spending.
Well if they are the losers then what do you call the DUMBORATS of the same time period. You know Baroke Obummer, Harry Dumb ass Reid, Eric Holder & the rest of the DEMORATS. I guess you have to call them like we see them as FAILURES.
how is it possible that such educated men think by changing their rhetoric they will get more votes?
let me state that I am a tree hugging liberal, and I don't like having a republican governor in my state. But the truth is, that Christie is the most rational person in the whole republican party. why did they exclude him? If you want to win elections, put him in charge of the party, let him clean out the dead heads, and you just might do well.
Steve, in order for them to get jobs, there needs to BE jobs. which this president is doing a good job at getting them created. not perfect, but a hell of a lot better.
So lets try a little math quiz. : you have 20 people looking for jobs, you have ten jobs available, how many people will remain with no job? Take your time, I know it's complicated, but i'm sure you can figure it out eventually.
The job creation is despite Obama. No president creates jobs, but they do help create an atmosphere for job growth, which he has not, actually his rhetoric and disdain for the private sector does quite the opposite.
Steve whines about the people who had their jobs taken offshore by the greedy rich who then hide their profits in offshore accounts. Oh yeah, Steve whines that it was the people who lost their jobs when the greedy rich crashed the economy and millions of workers have lost their jobs, their savings, their homes, that it was their fault the greedy rich had taken their jobs overseas, and now they sit at home losing everything.....!
Sure stevie......these people really want to be poor, they really wanted to lose their jobs, their savings, marriages, lives.......Sure stevie...try and spin it that way.....TOTALLY INSANE.....Greedy rich have no bounds to their insanity and destruction of America all for their greed!
Charlie so with GM having alltime record profits then why are we the taxpayers stuck with a 20 billion dollar bill for the bailout.
What short memories you teapublicans have. Remember -- your all time hero bailed out an auto company.
No other nation in the world would even dream of hiving a major auto company go down. At the same time the US was subsidizing GM and Chrysler, Germany, Japan, South Korea were also subsidizing their auto companies. And Steve --- I see you had no comment about the other 11 points I made such as a record DOW and 260,000 private sector jobs last month.
@Charlie
Keep dreaming my friend the nation is not doing better.
Job gain 260,000 = 152,000 was Government Jobs not Private sector.
35 Straight private jobs = lol yes minumal wage jobs only. Does not help middle class one bit.
GDP Growth = Right whatever
Dow Jones = LMFAO would not happen if the FEDs did not dump 3.1 trillion into it since Jan 2011 So Obama is paying it off not true growth.
Record domestic oil profits = LMFAO gas prices average $4.10 wow wonder why profits are high and if Bush was in office you DEMs would be Bush is nothing but oil lower gas prices pushed him to hit the reserves many times but only for 1/3 for Obama.
GM record profits = tax payers will lose 21 billion dollars in the bail out and you are happy about this? Why?
Corporate profits across the board = would not believe it so do you have link..
Osama bin Laden dead= 6 seal lose benefits one that killed him is dishonored by Obama. Yeah nice. But Obama had nothing to do with it Bush set up this task force. So give that credit where it belongs.
Iraq war over = LOL but a total lose and a slap in the face to the armed service. Iraq is going right back to the way the were. But still good.
So most of what you have said are not so much the truth. and here is a link for you this will prove you are wrong in many ways.
http://news.msn.com/us/census-more-than-1-in-3-us-counties-are-now-dying-off
Charlie
Well said. Unfortunately it is lost on "the sky is falling" uninformed, close minded hate-full baggers.
Honest?....really......Republicons pledged to vote against every bill that would be good for America the first night president Obama took office. Record amount of filibusters and obstruction. Republicons pledged to destroy America to nbring President Obama down, openly they brag their number one job is to make President Obama a one term president.
Republicons even blocked the vote to give healthcare to the 911 responders who are sick and dying everyday. Blocked the vote until exposed on how they wrap themselves up in the flag while hugging firefighters, rescue people, and then blocking the vote to care for those who cared for the nation!
Romney....speaker for the party....yeah, perfect example...the greedy rich destroy the lives of 47% by crashing the economy and taking jobs from America and then they give welfare to themselves in tax loopholes.
Republicon party , the party of no to the middle class and poor.
Laser whines about gas prices but forgets how republicons blocked the vote to remove billions of subsidies to big oil, when even big oil execs said in testimony, they did not need the subsidies...............DOHHHH! Laser forgets how republicons blocked the vote to remove speculation on oil market. ...DOH! etc etc.....
It speaks volumes about their ideals when Christie is banned from attending simply because he thought Obama had done something right. A flatout refusal to accept it and they will ostracize anyone who says something positive about the guy.
Tad...you just spout the usual Fox news rant.....save your breath on this blog, it is meaningless except to fox news watchers. Too funny ...that ship has sailed......and sunk! Same group of failed speakers saying the same rant that America rejected, except where republicons committed voter suppression, voter fraud, and gerrymandering of districts. Why do republicons have to try and rig elections?
Thank you, oh, thank you CPAC!!! Stab the only potential Republican candidate that has a chance in hell of winning (Christie) in the back! Thank you, thank, you, thank you. You've just guaranteed a full sixteen years of un-broken Democratic rule. Thank, you, thank you, thank you.
most of the republicans on this blog aren't really rich enough to be republicans. you are wannabes, dreamers, and wishing you were in a better situation. true republicans like mitch mcconnell and romney wouldn't let you associate with them. you're only good enough to serve them drinks, fetch their golf balls, and clean their toilet bowls. these people only need you around election time, otherwise they discard you like a used tool. they consider you as mere scum. even romney's dog would lift his leg and pi$$ on your pant cuffs.
Charlie,
Let's take a look at your "Facts"
Guess what -- the nation IS DOING BETTER!!
Facts Republicans Hate:
"Job losses per month in January 2008: 800,000
Job gains last month: 260,000"
That sounds like a net loss of 540,000
"35 straight months of private sector job growth"
A little exagerated or more than a little. It's the public sector that is adding jobs. Ones we can't afford to pay for by the way
GDP growth in 2008: negative 6%
GDP growth last year 3.1%
Sounds good until you factor in All jobs lost in the past 4 years. You're trying to prove how wonderful this administration is. OK, Cool, take the figures for the Entire 4 years
Dow Jones Average in January 2008: Under 8000
Dow Jones Average today: 14,300+ Record high
Which means the rich are getting richer. Joe Average got out of the market years ago and he's not back in yet.
Record domestic oil production
And yet the reason we're told gas prices are up is that refining is decreasing
GM – all time record profits
But they haven't paid back their bailout yet and the taxpayers are going to take millions in losses
Near record corporate profits across the board
So again, the rich get richer and corporations are not hiring because they have no confidence
Osama Bin Laden --- dead
Hooray, Obama said ok when they asked him if they could go get him. Not a ringing endorsement. Now if He had actually done something that might be different
Iraq war --- over
Then why are we still there?
I was very disappointed to hear about Christie being excluded. I think this shows just how out of touch CPAC is with the majority of people in this country.
So Christie angered Republicans by showing he is bipartisan and worked with the President to implement the insurance exchanges for his state and following the law of the land, and his result is no invite to the CPAC when he's one person who non-Republicans can actually tolerate. I thought the common Republican mantra is that Obama isn't willing to work with anyone but that they would love to cooperate with him if he'd just reach out to them.
At the very least, rather than look to someone who wins, let's look to 3/4 of the losers in the Presidential elections and get them on board. Apparently the future the Republican party wants is to be the opposition party that is out of power.
split personality, that is.
Schizophrenia
Chris Christie is what the future of the Republican Party SHOULD look like. The man actually gets things done, even if he has to cross party lines to do it. Republicans who are ineffective, ignorant and offensive windbags: Donald Trump and Sarah Palin. The only thing that Trump or Palin has ever done for the Republican Party is to stir up hatred and divisiveness, which is actually super easy to do. Accomplishing things, you know, making policies that improve our country, is much more difficult.
Mean, nasty, and stupid.
Good job GOP, death by cannibalism.
Rick's post at #1.13 is emblematic of the righty problem in this country.
I don't mind conservative opponents of Obama who look at some of his policies and feel that they are not right.
But Rick belongs to the delusional righty club that has already formed a narrative in its mind about Obama and continues to deny reality in order to perpetuate that narrative.
Hence his most asinine dumb ass clueless ridiculous even hilarious observation that
"This country is actually NOT doing better with the liberals choice of a community organizer sitting in the Oval Office."
Not doing better compared to WHAT ? Surely not the preceding 8 years of Bush !!!
How do you even start a conversation with the likes of Rick ?
Don't count the Republicans out in 2014. In January 2013 Obamacare imposed $209 billion in taxes upon American workers, most of which was the wage tax increase. In January 2014 another $125 billion in new taxes will hit the economy as a result of Obamacare. (The major hit was postponed to 2018). By the November 2014 elections the American voters, at least those not subsidized by the government, will be feeling the hit of $334 billion in new taxes and Obama who repeatedly said it the ACA would not cost us "a dime" will have done nothing to correct his "miscalculations".
I believe that by Nov. 2014 the voters will see and understand what the Republicans have been objecting to and why.
Republican congressmen sold their soul to the rich to get elected, then... surprise! ... the rich demand no taxes in return for their millions....or else.
Only good thing about the tea baggers is that when you buy them, they stay bought.
Teapublicans, end your self-serving, depressing world view
with your Race to the Bottom, every man, woman, and child for his/herself,
refusal to pay your damn taxes, hatred for your fellow man, conspiracy theory
ignorance, delusional persecution complex, complete lack of civility and
decency. You and your Party deserve only to be crushed and minimized.
CPAC started as a fringe group, grew to larger aspirations bolstered by the Tea Party and far right activists, and now is falling back to fringe status.
It's hard to keep a large group of people angry and motivated over a sustained period, especially when competing for those same people against other political groups. Take the NRA for example. It's getting people riled up, organizing demonstrations, leasing buses, supplying printed and online material, etc... and you have to admit that there is a lot of crossover between these people they draw to their second amendment rallies and the Tea Party and other far right groups. People can't participate or focus on too many causes at one time, so the NRA is diluting the pool of many of the same people that the other groups have been exploiting.
The Conservatives, especially the talk radio and Fox News people, may claim to be the majority, but the numbers just don't bare that out. There's just too much double counting, false counts, and unsustained claims that overestimate the numbers in valid polls and election results. There may be some pockets of heavy conservative support, but they are clumped in geographical areas that remain solidly conservative and Republican, but do not constitute a majority. Changes in demographics and an increase in younger voters and older voters falling off the rolls does not bode well for conservatives in the long run.
CPAC has to feel like this is really their last shot at getting anything done before becoming totally irrelevant. That kind of pressure and desperation doesn't often lead to the smartest decisions. Rather than support a further to centrist moderate approach that may yield them half a loaf, I suspect they will double down with an even farther right agenda going for a loaf and a half or nothing.
jake --- right on! good post.
The conservertive movement is nothing more than a gathering of the KKK...without the hoods
It really couldn't get any better than this! Amazing, I mean amazing how good these guys are at destroying their own party. I always wondered how you could really convince enough people that these people are credible enough to be a threat, but I guess the Republican party is just out to prove everybody wrong. They're willing to ride stupid right off the cliff and into the the great beyond!
Gil....thank you sir, thank you for holding firm in your values, and waning from your core beliefs none whatsoever! My party truly does appreciate that you speak loud and clear about what you want the Republican party to represent. Keep up the fight my good man, keep up the fight!
OMG! Conservative? How DARE this group of reactionary NUTJOBS call themselves CONSERVATIVE. That's like Pol Pot calling himself HUMANITARIAN!
sekellsr223 -- get off this blog a$$wipe! we don't need your advertising.
Of course they can't let Christie in. If he's willing to compromise and work to make the country a better place, then he can't be a Republican anymore.
@STARSAILING
Where do you see me whining? not one place did I whine I made a statement say when gas prices went up from $1.79 to $2.15 you dems whined and forced Bush to hit the reserves many times but now gas hits $4.19 but not one of you dems say anything and Obama was only forced to hit the reserves a 1/3 of what you made Bush do...
Why is that?
So whining, where? Facts in my post so you dems are liars and love to elect them...
steve-1962...Bailout was terrible, but suggest you check your dates to see who was in office when the bailout started, especially the parts of bailout that never had provisions for 1 penny of repayment !
And the republican plan was to do what ? Are you suggesting we would be better off if all the major banks failed, and GM, Chrysler, and probably Ford plus all of their suppliers were out of business ?
Please let us all know what the republican plan on the table was from Summer of 08 until Jan 09, also, were you of the impression that the republican administration was not in favor of the bailout ? Let us all know, please, we are waiting to hear this story.
So this year's CPAC is privately going to be one big bitch session with a lot of finger-pointing, while publicly, they'll give a lot of lip service to attract demographics they love to marginalize and exclude anyway.
Sorry charlie I did NOT know you wanted me to disprove all your points. As for the Dow the only reason it is up like that is the devalued dollar thanks to the fed for printing all that money. How are the banking industry doing, WAY off anything close to there highs.
Laser you whine about gas prices.....the only thing that congress can do is remove speculation system on oil, and to quit giving billions to Oil companies on the taxpers accounts. Republicons are against both! Now the Canadians are shipping oil by rail to ports and creating a pipeline straight to ports, to ship oil overseas...doh!!! The repubs are whining to let the oil lines be built...so oil goes to overseas markets instead of America where it can keep prices down....DOH!...Didn't see that one coming....
Republicon party the party of NO to America! The party of yes to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It's funny to read all the brainwashed leftists actually arguing that they want their taxes raised because Obama says that's best. Do you guys ever actually think?
And I must agree, excluding Christie just proves republicans have not changed. Those wolves just want to put on sheep's clothing to try and fool the mass.
It's the very reason I switched to independent, at some point you have to realize that compromise on SOME issues, not all, is good. But this defiant notion that they won't cave on anything is going to be the end of them.
The CPAC is gathering of people preaching to the choir. If they don't like what the minister has to say, they withhold their
offeringsbribes and support. Unfortunately, the members are almost all white, male, evangelical christian bigots. All they really need is the hoods and burning crosses and they'd fit right into the old South.Nothing will change from this conference. Hopefully, the next leadership team that comes into play in the next 2 elections will ignore the far right wing nuts and decide that the destruction of the country is not the proper way to govern.
Apparently this is the first of many upcoming funerals for the GOP party! All of the no-accounts are going to be there, telling themselves that it was a good time while it lasted, but now they are all certified losers and no longer relevant to anyone except themselves. There is probably enough brain power in that one room to light a light bulb (40 watt!), so you know the power brokers are there, especially Doofus Trump, the 1 watt genius with the brilliant ideas that is the laughing stock of the entire country (I guess he replaced Geraldo Rivera as the national joke?). And then add Sarah Palin, Rick Santorium'd, and Myth Robme and you have the perfect storm (of idiots!). Couldn't happen to a greater bunch of pinheads!
I love that these guys are getting so much coverage. Let the country see just how loony they are and I'm sure Saturday Night Live will appreciate the material.
@ starsailing
Whatever everyone can see it was not a whine. Plus why would I am the top 1% gas would have to go to about $1000.00 a gallon before it would even make me think.
So I think you are whining and just point the finger to someone else like you do with Obama's none leadership and point all his faults to Bush.
So keep crying star but me I am fine. Go get your next welfare check and send me a thank you card for it...
Rick-3416939
Rick, I'm not a big Obama fan but what you and others are pushing about Obama creating more debt is bogus. Bush and Cheney took us so deep in the hole that it is not something that can be stopped easily and fast. The continued debt is from the avalanch of stupid spending by the previous administration which is why the debt will continue to rise.
You can't expect anything from Obama to fix it if the Republicans in the House will not do anything he puts forth even when it is policies the Republicans wanted from before. What it's all about and you need to get it is that the Righties are just not into having a Black man as leader. Obama is so far Right compared to any democrat before him, he's the best Republican we have.
mrpotato:
I've had the same impression for quite some time. Seeing the participants in the TP rally here in Phoenix led to many questions.
Do the followers of TP doctrine know what a "venture capitalist" does for a living?
Do they believe there will be 'wealth by association' if they support the corporate lobby bacchanal?
You are, of course, correct in your observation that, historically, and even more so currently, the wealth accumulated is directly relative to the number of people they manage to 'throw under the bus'.
Do these followers realize they won't be invited to ride on the bus? There is only room on the bus for a chosen few, and the bus gets smaller by the year.
Corporate evolution, especially in the banking, insurance, oil and investment industries has become simply 'less workers - more work'. This, obviously, results in higher profits - profits distributed to the corporate leadership. Much of this incredible wealth is removed from circulation, a good deal of it removed from this country.
The data illustrating the incredible increase in 'top eschelon' compensation, coupled with the equally incredible loss of actual 'buying power' of employees during the past 4 or 5 decades is unnerving, if not terrifying.
Divisive on their Conservative "values"....
And confused about their claim of TAX INCREASE..... once again, it was a TAX RELEASE as prescribed by the Bush Administration "gift" offer that was due to expire.
YES... DUE TO EXPIRE....
The RNC doesn't have a DEM problem, they have a COMPREHENSION and CONGENIALITY problem.
MM I say if you want to play with others money and you fu ck up then its your ass that fries. NOT the taxpayers. To big to fail BS. About the auto industry, they could of went through a NORMAL bankruptcy instead of giving part of GM to the UNION the same people that put them in that spot. The GREED of the union is the cause of there problems.
RI mom this country has a DEMOGOD problem. they think they are GODS to bad the rest of knows that is CLODS.
sdn --- re: #1.70 you stated it much more eloquently than i did!
Steve, there you go with the blame unions for the finacial mess the greedy rich caused, your whine has been debunked thousands of times and only plays on the Fox news crowd. The greedy rich want the jobs to go overseas because they love hiding those offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes to America....until the republicons stop blocking bills to stop the loopholes giving the rich to hide their taxes offshores, all REAL Americans will suffer for it. Offshore fake Americans are killing the country for $$$$$$$$$$$$
SDN.......well said ...Bravo!!!!!! These teabaggers and rt wingers are brainwashed that giving everything to the rich 1% is doing themselves good........DOH!
Looks like the usual circle jerk is here with everyone trying to be the pivot man.
Fred should probably switch parties.
This completely sums up the Obama voters.
Other than the chance to win elections...
"Job gain 260,000 = 152,000 was Government Jobs not Private sector."
The only reason the Dow is up, actually, is because American companies are making record profits. As a company makes more profit, it justifies a higher stock price. Record profits, record stock price. Pretty simple.
The dollar, however, has not been devalued. Inflation is, in fact, at very low historic rates.
It's kind of funny how people complain, in the same breath, about Obama printing money, and then also him racking up debt. If he was printing money, then why would he need to rack up the debt? Couldn't he just pay it off with the printed money?
"I was very disappointed to hear about Christie being excluded."
Oh no CEPAC, doesn't want Christi there. They don't want a Republican with a 70% approval rating in a solid blue state. You don't want somebody who appeals to Reagan Democrats and independents. They don't want somebody who can actually WIN AN ELECTION. They would rather stick with LOSERS like Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum. I've learned something about Teapublicans ---it's NOT ABOUT RESULTD, it's NOT about actual ACCOMPLISHMENTS --- it's about WORDS. You have to SAY the right things and that's all you have to do.
Liberals should read the latest poll numbers on Obama and you will see his motivation for the Capital Hill Charm Tour. Unlike liberals the rest of the nation doesn't think much of the Obama economic strategy or anything else for that matter. Liberals might love the Obama tax, borrow, and spend policy that has this nation mired in the worst recovery in US history, but the rest of the nation is waking up to his inability to do the job. Obama got elected in 2008 because of his catchy campaign slogan and his ability to read a speech. Obama got elected in 2012 because the race card, blame, and excuses were still working. But now reality is setting in, and the Obama poll numbers are heading south. Wait until ObamaCare is fully implemented, and then we will be talking about whether the Democrat Party will survive the Obama disaster.

You're being too kind, he wouldn't even have been selected to run had he been white. He became president because of one attribute, because he was/is completely unqualified.
Hey CPAC lovers, teatards and all around Obama haters don’t forget ---- March Madness starts soon and President Obama will be filling out his brackets. Be sure you whine and cry, bitch and complain, moan and groan about how he’s wasting time and not taking care of the nation --- just like you have, every March, since 2009.
#Paul-401431
WTF? Like Bill Clinton pointed out, the GOP has a problem with math as you have demonstrated.
“And we need to speak much more to the aspirational needs of people, and not speak about the dependence of the ‘47 percent..."
See, they still don't 'get' it. Romney's view of the 47 percent included people collecting SS, people on disability, retired veterans collecting pensions, soldier families using food stamps to survive, anyone receiving virtually ANY type of payment from the government was portrayed as a moocher and taker. So they just want to not "talk about it"? Nothing has changed in their thinking patterns; they've just figured out that talking about it is toxic. When, someday if ever, they realize that the core thinking is toxic, maybe they'll recover. Lipstick on a pig and all that.
Liberials just don't get it. It is not the retirees, nor the Vets who all deserve their benifits. It is some non workers who just sit and collect unemployement for nearly 2 years, it is the capable young single, collecting SSI , food stamps, and ACCess because it allowes them to play vidio games all day. It is the ones milking the Medicare program. It is kids having babies so they can collect checks. Yet Liberals include Vets that served our country and got injured, for which we should do all that is possible to help restore thier lives. Liberals include the elderly that worked for 40 years to be able to retire. The problem is we as a country are spending Billions on waisted programs. We build housing for the poor, just to let it decay, and become a blight to the citys, we don't teach responsibility, just "what is in it for me" We promote wasteful government charity, but condem privite carities that help far more with less money. The Greatest Generation has given way to the Selfless Generation. How Sad.
Good post, 300Michael, have to agree, not everybody is sucking the system dry but there are people that make a living off the system and they are a problem. Until they are forced to get off their rear ends to work for a living the problem can not get better. Most people do not have a problem with the government giving temporary help but there is those that live on the taxpayer's money because they are too lazy to work (they are a part of the 47% that upsets the liberals).
armysf, If you think only these few people in the 47% bracket are moochers, Then you are truly deluded. There will always be people rich and poor who will try to take advantage. Most Americans are hard working people, This is noting but a tired sad distraction by the Republican party.....
It is absolutely the ones content to sit home and do nothing all day, collect everything they can from the system - that is helping to break this country - but it is also those same people that will be hurt the most from Obamacare. They rallied to re-elect their leader to keep from losing what they are given for free - not realizing that his policies will affect them the most. What will they do when the country goes broke - and under the current regime it will. Who is going to help them then? Not Obama - he will be golfing in Hawaii.
Chris Christie is about as conservative as Madonna. He shouldn't be invited. The Republican party needs to get back to their strong conservative values to be successful and if it means cutting out those that are conforming more to the way of the world then so be it.
Just because many Americans want Liberalism - doesn't mean the rest of us do. You don't get to speak for us - nor do we speak for you. That is why we live in America. Freedom of choice.
But the real problem is - this country has gone to heck - a lot because of it's lack of morals and because of greed. Maybe it is time to get back to the values that this country was based upon and was successful for so many years because of.
And I think Republican leaders like Ryan, Rubio and Paul just might be what this country needs to turn us around. They seem to be the only ones with the guts to speak the truth. Even the Democrats that don't agree with Obama - don't have the courage to stand up to him and yes they are out there.
The Blame, Bully, Scare and Threaten, Golfing Campaign sure isn't working. I just hope and pray that we can survive the next four years....if not - welfare, gay marriage, legalized abortion, health care - those will be the least of our worrries.
300Micheal: Of course we get it. To get 47% you have to include retired seniors and military. There's no other way to reach 47%. What you believe and what Romney/Ryan believe are obviously different.
I wonder if the speakers will brag how the republicons under the new Ryan plan will cut benefits to veterans? I wonder if the speakers will brag on how they voted against a jobs bill for veterans last year, while vets are committing suicide at a record pace? Republicons love war...war profits over the lives of our soldiers.
So Bush/ Cheney started a war in Iraq to funnel war profits to Cheney's company Haliburton with no bid contracts. Lied the nation and world into war over fake WMD story just to get war profits, and now republicons turn their backs on the veterans whose lives have been lost, who are coming home wounded and dying, who are coming home and need jobs and help to forget the horror of the war republicons started for war profits.
Republicon party, the party of no to Vets.
Paul Ryan wants to cut medicare for those aged 56 and under.
During 2012 campaign his goal was to cut Medicare for only those aged 55 & under.
So after he was rejected by voters last November, Ryan wants to inflict more hurt to more Americans now?
Ryan has changed after the election, becoming even more vicious.
Beware of
dogRyanRepublicon party, the party of the rich welfare queens like Romney. Ran for president just to create laws to give more welfare to the rich, like ending capital gains taxes.....
He was hiding his taxes from America because he makes profits from taking American jobs overseas and hides the profits in offshore accounts. Imagine the greed it takes to say no more capital gains taxes so the rich have no taxes. Talk about insanity. Take, take, take from America and give nothing back.
Republicon party the party of welfare to the rich!
SSGirl, As a republican turned independent I will tell you that the path you suggest for the republican party will be its death knell. The "strong conservative views" you speak of are driving away the only chance the republicans have to regain power - the republican centrist. There are not enough whackadoodle TEA party activists to elect a mayor, let alone a president.
As long as the republican party insists on adopting a Social Conservatism, it will continue its downward spiral. Social conservatives scream and yell at the mayor of NYC for limiting the size of soda one can buy but have no trouble telling people who they can and cannot marry. Social conservatives rail against "big government" yet want government to dictate private, individual morals. TEA Party activists blame the poor for being poor and insist that social safety nets be cut to nothing while allowing CEOs who already make 400 to 500 times the wage of the average worker, to continue to receive embarrassingly ridiculous tax benefits. TEA Party activists want the budget balanced NOW despite the fact that doing so would drive the global economy into a depression that would make the Great Depression look like a minor recession.
And before Feisty and Pigotry get excited, the Progressive arm of the democratic party is just as monumentally stupid as the TEA party faction of the republican party. The absolute, only path for the salvation of this nation is the centrist. The individual who recognizes that we must both raise taxes and cut spending. That we can NEITHER cut our way to prosperity NOR spend our way out of debt. The individual who recognizes that the survival of our economy depends on a strong middle class AND that there is nothing wrong with rich people keeping what they have earned. The individual who recognizes that government cannot give to anyone something that it does not first take from someone else. The individual who recognizes the power of strong families without having the need to define the look of those families. The individual who recognizes that government's job is to protect and serve, not monitor and decide.
It is absolutely the ones content to sit home and do nothing all day, collect everything they can from the system - that is helping to break this country -
And guess what -- that's NOT anywhere near 47%.
JoeMike - I am all for gay marriage. I think they deserve the same rights in a marriage that the rest of us do- divorce, child custody, child support. Go for it! I don't think they deserve "special treatment" because of their sexual orientation. Everyone is entitled to human rights - not special rights.
I think you have Capitalism and socialism all mixed up. Your president is a socialist. He wants us all to have the same. Ask the chinese how that is working out for them. If I work harder than you - then why shouldn't I enjoy the additional benefits from that hard work. If I decide to sit home all day and do nothing - then why should I get the same as those that work their tails off.
Liberals stay mad at the wealthy - why? There are just as many wealthy liberals as there are Republicans. News flash - your political affiliation is not what sets your bank account. Your work ethics do. Hollywood - liberal rich. They have all the "loopholes" to keep from paying taxes. Why don't you all rag on them for a while and get off the backs of the wealthy business owners who are keeping this country going right now. It sure isn't your illustrious leader.
And one more thing - I am freaking proud of my conservative views. I hope and pray that we have a true conservative president at some point.
Yes the governments job is to protect and serve - how safe do you feel right now? And on what day has Obama shown up to work to "serve" the American people.
"Your president is a Your president is a socialist."
Gee --- under this "socialist" president, under this "anti-business president" we have an all time record high DOW, a near record S&P 500 index, all time high domestic oil production, and near all time high profits among Fortune 500 companies.
And SSGirl -- for the record --- he's YOUR president too.
I'm a retired senior and member of the 53 percent who pays income tax each and every year. Don't count me as a 47.
SSGirl, get a dictionary, look up the word Socialism and get back to me when you know the defintion.
SSGirl sounds like the 47% she talks about. Someone entitled to her exhorbitant payoffs from the government going to her company while the rest of us pay, pay and pay. Pay with our taxes, pay with our lives and pay with our families in pain.
Lizard
Me too and guess what, I voted for Obama. Now Republican party get out of the way and watch a real leader fix our problems.
Lizard, SSGirl, Army, 300 michael....
Keep up the fight! Don't let these naysayers on here bring you down. Make sure your party hears your voices loud and clear! Make sure that they know you represent the future of the Republican party, and that you will absolutely not compromise your beliefs for any of these crazy liberals. Our party needs you to keep talking and letting your voice be heard. Don't quit....the American public needs to know exactly who it is that votes Republican!
I'm beginning to have real concerns about the viability of the Republican Party - this Conference appears to be yet another stepping stone to extinction.
A political platform that insists that the American voters conform to current Republican ideals, rather than the party representing the American voter, is a complete mystery to me - the two most recent Presidential elections rather convincingly suggest I'm not alone. Does this country need leadership that acknowledges a platform intended to personally discredit the elected President, obstruct any and all legislation offered, and extort the citizenry in an attempt to create hardship for the vast majority? All this to promote an, obviously, unpopular agenda?
Excluding voices that might better enlighten the party to the ideals of the residents of this nation is, at the least, very curious. Certainly, there are extremely vocal and wealthy partisan supporters of extreme conservatism, but even these hysterical elements simply aren't perceptive enough to win elections. It's a fools errand attempting to convince voters that social and technical progress isn't in their best interests, or inevitable.
Joe Mike - I know what it means... and IMHO - I am not a business owner - but a person that gets up every day and goes to work - to support myself. No one has to take care of my bills or my house payment or my food bill. I do that myself. And I don't sit around and whine about someone having more than I do. Or try to figure out how the government can take those people down.
Again...the wealthy business owners are the ones that are supporting this country by keeping people like me employed.
And...I am not conforming to Republican ideals...I want a party that has the same conservative principals and values that I have. Just like Liberals....it is amazing to me - you want a party that has your liberal views - but to you - conservatives - should have a party that believes what the rest of the world wants it to believe. We don't want to be liberal. There are many of us out there. Again...American - my freedom - my choice.
Bully all you want...I am used to it - after all the president is teaching that trait really well.
300Michael... It was your boy Mitt who selected the 47% If you take anything even close to that 47% number, you have to include the veterans, the retired, the elderly, the disabled. It was his number, now you want to disown it ! If he meany 20%, he should have said 20%, he said 47% loud and clear and now you want to say that does not include vets, retired , aged, disabled ? Your numbers !
SSGirl - Since when is having a conversation, bullying? Socialism is a form of government in which the government owns the means of production. All industries, at least all infrastructure-related industries (transit, healthcare, education, energy) are owned and run by the government. You show no evidence that you understand this defintion.
Secondly, I am not a liberal. I actually think. Anyone who thinks is neither all liberal nor all conservative because neither political ideology is perfect. You yourself indicate or imply that you are trying to change the republical party to be more consistent with your principles.
Here are my values - Individual liberty; Respect for the Consitution - all of it; Keep government out of our private lives; don't spend more than you earn; take care of those who are unable to care for themselves; accept accountability for your life and your choices.
What are yours?
Joemike - my values are much the same as yours. I am not trying to change anyone or any party. My point is - if I don't want to belong to the liberal party - I don't have to - but I also don't sit around and make fun of those that do - or call them names. They are entitled to live their lives the way they want and believe what they want. My issue is that with the liberals - if you don't believe what they believe then you are wrong and stupid - of which - I am neither.
The last thing we need is more government. Right now - we are having it crammed down our throats. The government has its hands in too many aspects of our daily American lives. We have had a government shut down twice before in recent years (Clinton Administration)...once for 5 days and another for 28 days. And amazingly enough - life continued. We all got up every day and went to work - and made it just fine.
But also during the Clinton years - whom I voted for....this country was not divided in the way that it is today. That frightens me more than all the fearmongering that Obama is doing today.
We have a president that is doing his best to divide this country...and unfortunately - too many don't see that.
SSGirl, If you read any number of comments from conservative posters here on Newswhine, you will find that just as many conservatives deride liberals as wrong and stupid as vice versa. That's the problem with our country today. Too much accusation, too much division, too much yelling and not enough listening and compromising. Is Obama one of the most divisive presidents in recent history? Absolutely. But take a look around, he's far from being alone. A politician works to maintain and increase that division. A statesman works to bring people together. We have way too many politicians and not nearly enough statesmen.
Thanks for sticking with the conversation. I had a feeling we were closer in our opinions than it first appeared. Good talking to you.
joemike - same to you. No doubt - there is too much accusation and division. No Obama is not alone. Hopefully we will see some type of unity in the White House in years to come. It shouldn't be about what they want - but what the people want and what is best for us as a country. Somewhere that resolve has gotten lost.
"I'm a retired senior and member of the 53 percent who pays income tax each and every year."
My advise --- GET A NEW ACCOUNTANT -- QUICKLY. If you're paying anything near 53%, something is desperately wrong.
CPAC and core conservatives may not think that Chris Christie is a conservative or anywhere conservative enough, but he's electable. Rubio, Rand, Ryan, and all the other CPAC stars are not.
Compromise is what the far right just doesn't understand or refuses to accept. Either you move towards the center to appeal to the real majority or you lose more elections. CPAC seems to have made their choice on that and they can all feel good inside and wave their flags to their heart's content as their party's ship sinks beneath the waves.
The goppers and conners keep thinking that they'll win with their message boiled down to four points:
1) the rich must get to have everything and keep everything;
2) gays must be eradicated;
3) everyone must be forced to worship the bible, and,
4) the Second Amendment grants anyone the right to possess a thermo-nuclear weapon.
You are a clueless fool. None of those ridiculous non-points are funny, or have an ounce of truth.
1) the rich must get to have everything and keep everything;
Right now the "rich" are the only ones paying the bills. The higher 25% tax brackets (>$66,000 income), though hardly "rich", accounts for over 87% of all tax revenue. The highest 1% (>$343,000) alone accounts for over 37% of all tax revenue. Meanwhile 75% of the tax base accounts for less 13% of revenue and yes 47% of that group 0%. Where is the pre-clinton massive middle-class tax base that a civilization needs? The 47% contains the inevitable number (between 13% to 18%) who has always and will always refuse to ever contribute and are indeed parasites, every civilization in recorded history has them. It also contains the displaced middle-class that was eliminated in clintons "new economy". By the way you do realise that the Bush era tax reform resulted in increased revenue from the higher brackets and reduced rates from the lower brackets correct? Is your complaint that there are still citizen who have not had their wealth confiscated? The left sees a citizen with a nice house and finer things and says "no man should have so much", the right sees the same man and says "every man should have as much".
2) gays must be eradicated;
Odd but you only see statements like that coming from the left and the extreme right, along with other cute little hot-button phrases and buzzwords.
3) everyone must be forced to worship the bible,
Again that is a statement I only see the lunatic left making. personally as an atheist, I could care less what deity a citizen wishes to partake in ... as long as it is not some manipulative destructive cult like Waco or Muslim. And as long as it kept separate from government. The founders understood the dangers of religion and the history of the sheep being manipulated in the name of some "god".
4) the Second Amendment grants anyone the right to possess a thermo-nuclear weapon
Another left nut tactic when they have no valid argument? Just who is suggesting thermo-nuclear weapons and how is that related to the 2nd amendment? Only the left so far. What the conservative (not to be confused with either party) realises is that every one of the first 10 amendments was important enough for the founding fathers is there in response to the actions of a tyrannical government. To prevent those abuses of a free citizen it was a condition they be part of the foundation of the Republic. The only firearm law on the books that was effective in preventing crime was enacted in the 1930s and involved the restriction (not banning) of private ownership of auto-matic assault weapons. It is still possible for a citizen to own them, and some do, it just required a permit from the Dept. of Treasury (now the ATF). A legally owned assault firearm has not been involved in a crime or harm to a citizen in tens of decades, at least not in my lifetime. How about the left just slowdown and ask themselves if any proposed law is going to actually accomplish anything or if it just political grandstanding to appease the mob of sheep that will do nothing to address the problem? No citizen of either agenda would object to a constructive action, its the "se I care and did something (anything)" political grandstanding to appease the mob mentality that is objectionable.
Jerry, sarcasm is confusing to some ;-)
Dennis? i'm guessing the liberal media failed to show you that right wing group that holds signs that say "god hates fags" and worse?
are you saying that guys like pat Robertson don't have their hands around the throats of the party? and their hands in it's pockets?
do you even know what a foundation family is? do you understand that we the people are putting in twice the work hours for half the buying power? (when we do have jobs)
Do you understand that jobs where lost in record numbers under Bush/Chainey?
Do you understand that "everything has limits, or at least should? yes, thermo nukes is a far exaggeration, but it does make a point.
to end confusion, just use a tiny bit of common sense.
dennis:
All those 'left's' gave away the game.
Ouch, Jerry. I had a friend who would say, never call a whore a whore. The last thing the right wing nuts want to see is themselves in a mirror. How dare you.
Yup, Bill-Austin, look how mad the rightwingers are when it's pointed out (with sarcarasm and with truth) what they want. They go nuts (a redundancy, I know). The poster Dennis is typical, defending the rich who have ruined this economy and then dismisses the factual fanaticism of his rightwing nutwads.
The Clown Car is alive and well! Too bad their car has four flat tires - Palin, Trump, Santorum and a new member Cruz alias Joe McCarthy - re-incarnated
You also have George "P" Bush wanting to get in on things to. If he is anybetter than his Grandfather, Uncle, and Father he has one long row of corn to hoe. Personnally I beleive in the adage of "like father like son" on this Bush.
As voters become more educated, the Bush plague will be irradicated.
One can only hope Ed.
@Barbara Adams Jackson
Lmao, that should be a political cartoon =)
Yeah Barbara... but they're just so damned good looking
I actually think what we're seeing is the dying of a political movement...but, unfortunately, not until they've done incredible damage domestically and abroad in the process. The "tea party" wave that came in 2010 has shown us exactly what government looks like when "negotiation" is only when the other side accepts 100% of what you want. These people are not interested in actual governance....quite the contrary...they LOVE to see government flounder because that feeds into their narrative that 'government cannot do anything right'.
It is taking some time to see this...and actually is happening even more quickly than I was predicting. Unfortunately, with that wave came gerrymandering which will cause this effect to be felt more longer than usual.
However, long term, these "tea party" activists will be kicked to the curb with their confederate flags and three-cornered hats where they belong. Believe it or not, many Republicans will be as happy as Democrats when that happens.
The populist movement is just doing what populist movements have done throughout the history of the Republic, provides a relatively harmless way for the citizen to express outrage at Federal direction. They never gain enough following to actually effect anything, otherwise there would be a stronger communist party or NAZI party or Libertarian party etc .etc. etc.. Where the democratic party is making a mistake is trying to lump the populist movements with "political conservative". In reality a political conservative in either major party is not allowed to run for any important office by both parties in favor of the those willing to sacrifice their principles for the party agenda. Make no mistake there are political conservatives, in the sense of believing in the principles of the founding fathers of the Republic, in both parties.
DostorLogic, you are exactly right in your assessment of the GOP. they are becomig more irrelevant everyday.. I have to agree that soon they will be gone. The bad thing is how much more damage will this country have to endure at their hands. The way they fail to comprise on anything nothing gets done.By trying to bring down the country all they have done is brought down their party.
Rich,
Governing is comprimise.
Rule without comprimise is totalitarianism.
The fact that you are alluding that those are in the tea party are basically racist southern boys with white hoods in their closet is ridicules. Maintaining fiscal responsibility by not spending money we don't have, trimming unnecessary functions or government jobs that do not create more jobs, cuts including those to the defense side of the budget are necessary. The reason why the GOP is becoming more "irrelevant" per Rich is due to the media's failure to actually report news from the middle of the aisle and are completely invested in Obama looking good and the Democrats maintaining the White House. What does it say the the Senate hasn't proposed a budget for four years...and the Democrats have been in charge there the entire time.
Is that really what you want rich, to have the republican party to go away? Do you actually realize what would happen to our country if there was only one party? I do not care for the policies of the democrate party but it is needed to keep a balance of power. To have a one party system is to doom our country, I thought you were old enough to know that.
armysf-
Do you think conservatives (RATIONAL conservatives) will go away too? Of course they won't. A new party will rise, just as the GOP did in the decline of the Whigs. The insanity that is the Evangelical stranglehold over the GOP will be tossed off and rational conservatives will build a healthy party.
Failing that, the Republic is finished. The problem is that Capitalism has overthrown democracy; the land is run by the corporate elite and supernational finance industry, and enabled by the corporate media.
disgusted:
Me too.
"..Capitalism has overthrown Democracy.." What an incredibly cryptic, horrifying, utterly realistic observation - wish I had the your skills of articulation. We've simply reached the point where 'lobbyists' - representing irresistible wealth, determine our national and international policy. Does there exist a feasible escape from this juggernaut?
I have to agree with Disgusted, and SDN. I voted for a third person/party last November, even though I knew a third person would not win. In some ways I am conservative, in some ways liberal. And I believe our 2 party system is broken. Both Demos and Repubs owe too much to the big monied interests that contribute mega amounts to their election coffers. There are even some big monied interests that contribute to BOTH parties at the same time, so that whoever wins, they have a foot in.
The only feasible escape I can see is IF the rest of us vote with our pocketbook. While we can't avoid 'Made in ___— (whatever countries received outsourced companies from America and the people there work for slave wages in unsafe/polluted conditions) all the time, if we begin to truly look for opportunities to meet our needs and wants via Made in the USA first, buy secondhand in the USA second (if the item is already here, it doesn't matter where it originally came from, Fair trade international third, and then only if it is a truly needed item we can't get any other way, Made in China/etc. Outsourcing is killing the Middle Class. The rescinding of the Glass - Steagall act also represents the type of Wall Street shenannigans that broke the Middle Class. Those responsible for these shenannigans have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Let them have their cooked goose. We the people can go get our own little gosling. Right now it's really young and immature--it' not laying any golden eggs right now, but if we nourish it right, eventually it will grow up, and the golden eggs will be ours!
What is this? Everytime I see Paul Ryan they still run the tag VP Nominee. I don't see them running the tag Presidential Candidate, Nominee, Presidential Runner behind Mc Cains name. Michael Obrian, I guess you are one of the Vulture Voucher Lovers also. Are you on The Communist Koch Bros Payroll too? Hang in there the next thing Ryan will want SS Payments on a Voucher too.
6dogs..
The Koch brothers aren't communists, they are fascists.
Louie ...... and the difference is? I assume you are using the tactic of referring to fascist as extreme right? incorrect usage. You might be amazed at the resemblance between the National Socialist 25 points platform and the Democratic Party Agenda. In reality there is zero difference in outcome of either extreme as far as the citizen is concerned.
"We are socialists, we are enemies of today’s capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are determined to destroy this system under all conditions." Adolph Hitler Speech of May 1, 1927 as quoted in John Toland (1976), Adolf Hitler: The Definitive Biography, p. 306
He actually has a similar plan, it encompasses sending the social security trust fund to Wall Street then letting it trickle down upon the beneficiary's. Of course any gains that the beneficiary's realized will be the result of hedging the trust fund against commodities such as fuel oil , corn and staples that Americans use everyday. That's right they will use your money to increase the price of products you purchase every day and they will absorb the gains themselves and a small percentage will be paid back into the fund.
do you remember when one of the bushes was trying to get legislation through to privatize SS, just think the SS lockbox raided and then the wall street collapse...what a cluster f$#% that would have been.
on second thought, would this have been considered a gop master plan?
Slowly but surely the GOP is edging us towards a revolution. With the military/industrial complex in their pocket (or is it the other way around) they feel sure of success if it goes that way. They obviously think that anyone who has not made the pursuit of wealth their life's goal deserves to be a serf. Reference Romney's "47 percent" attitude.
The "military/industrial complex" died along with everything else that made a healthy massive middle-class possible under clintons "new economy" .... how is that working out for you so far?
Clintons Economy was working just fine until Bush/Cheney got into office and Cheney did his BS.
Dennis, How are those military/industrial drones flying over your house working out for you so far? The only thing that has died is that healthy middle class.
They died the last 6 months of 2008.
Spacey .... The ones marked "made in china"? The military industrial complex meant in times of comflict there was a drastic drop in unemployment, dramatic increase in middle-class earnings (the existence of the middle-class for that matter) and stronger economy ..... see that happening since 1998?
Doggy ....... to say that clintons fantasy economy was just fine is like saying the "roaring 20s" was just great until the depression. The inevitable result was the same and for basically the same reasons. A runaway stockmarket with no relationship to actually productivity increases to justify it. Only difference is clinton destroyed the only means of recovery, the manufacturing base. To little regulation of stock market, a fantasy of eternal wealth creation without effort and the end result was inevitable The Great Depression pt.2.
The fact is that they don't want to represent all of the US... They just want to represent those who donate to them... The rest of us are just pawns to them. They lie and then repeat the lies knowing that a good percentage of Americans are going to vote based on those lies. A lot of people refuse to acknowledge the fact that it is easier now more so than ever to do a fact-checking on the interest. Now people would rather vote for that capital letter next to a politican's name than to vote on a political stance. Yet I have seen plenty of the 47% who were dyed-in-the-wool republicans, voting against their own best interests. Their reasons for this was that they weren't members of the 47%, even though they had fallen on hard times and were drawing food stamps. They depended on those food stamps to keep their families fed after they lost their jobs because of the economy. Why would anyone vote for a group who refuses to do their job and help Americans who need them? I will never understand. But the republicans of today are not like those of yesteryear. Now it is all about expanding the government especially local government. Now it is about punishing those hit hardest by the economy. Now it is about deciding who deserves to have healthcare and who is allowed what kind of healthcare. It is about separating our country into those who deserve help (2%) and those who shouldn't have anything (98%). It is about separating the poor, middle class, and the elderly from their money and their rights... Tyranny are its worst is what we are seeing in their gerrymandering, bullying tacits, and verbal & legal abuse of minorities. They are signing the party's death certificate with their repulsive stance and dirty dealings...
What you said was so true of both Parties. There are too few in the Government that really stand for what the Constitution envisioned for US. I just hope we can turn things around, before it is too late, or the course we are on will doom us all.
I've read all your coments and they're spot on. Wish I were as articulate. I'll say this. There are still too few of us. People who believe those idiots at CPAC are inflicting serious injury to the country we love. Not because we disagree with them, either, although that's part of it. I'm worried there's not enough critical mass to push them to the fringe and hold them there. You guys keep speaking hopefully of the death of the party. But, the dead have to know they're dead before we can have a funeral? Just the mere mention of Sarah, Ted, and holy crap, Paul Ryan and his Ayn Rand budget, ... and people are still listening. What a contrast Ryan is to the new pope, a Jesuit who embraces poverty. Way to go my Catholic friends! Perhaps, Second Amendment remedies advocated by Sharon Angle may work in reverse? Speaking of course in the abstract, as I don't care for gun violence personally.
We need the consertives to ballance the current crop of Liberials in office, otherwise we might as well just destroy the consitituion right now. Besides I would not call 47% dead.
The solution is simple, scrape off the TP Reagan Republicans, and start a new moderate, intellectual Republican party. You only have to go back to Barry Goldwater, he was a true conservative, didn't believe religious or social issues should be part of the political process.
Unfortunately, it will take another election cycle before the moderates realize that all is lost, time to rebuild.
Just because some people don't believe in the liberal way, does not mean that they are Bible worshipping, gay hating, assault weapon carrying nut jobs. I am a strong independent, voted for Clinton both times, and am sick of where this country is headed....at the hands of the progressive party!
The new democratic budget came out yesterday to raise taxes 1 trillion and ADD 4 trillion to the debt. Ryans plan, though flawed, cuts the spending of proposed new growth. If you had a business that spent more than it made, where would you be? If you had to borrow money from the bank every month to make payroll, where would you be? If you lied to your investors about your plan, then changed the plan and borrowed more money, where would you be?
The fiscal cliff 'crisis' bill was once again full of pork! Money for Hollywood, Nascar and Rum companies in Puerto Rico....yet they threaten to cut SS, Medicare and Medicaid, and defense to cut spending. The 'sky is falling' sequester gloom and doom was a bunch of bunk. Come on people, open your eyes, this way is never going to work and when those that refuse to see it are blind.
Be careful there rationaloutlook. Logic and common sense are not appreciated on this blog. Don't cast your pearls before swine.
Your talking to the wrong people if your talking to me or your neighbor, etc. You need to talk to the Senate.
And yet you had no problem with Bush adding over 6 trillion to our debt over 8 years. Can you point to any year Bush was president when our income matched our expenses? The fiscal year 2009 budget the right blames on Obama with a 1.2 trillion deficit was passed by Bush before Obama was elected. Bush took a balanced budget proposal for his first year, turned it into a massive deficit and never looked back.
The Ryan plan you support would raise revenue by cutting benefits exclusively on the bottom 98% which is what Romney/Ryan ran on and lost. You can believe their non sense all you want. Most Americans don't. The right can no longer sell demanding each democratic president balance the budget while they spend like drunken sailors every time they get the white house.
If you reduce your take home pay it is hard to pay your debts.
Sure am wishing they had Suzanna Martinez or Mia Love both of whom spoke at the Republican convention and gave excellent speeches. Unfortunately the media didn't really cover that night where we had spectacular speakers full of diversity of all kinds. Republicans need to espouse the many ways they do help the needy both as individuals and as a party. I think there is a way to promote republican values like: pro life, low taxes instead of unnecessary entitlements and the ideals that lead to success which keep people from needing gov't handouts and instead gives them self respect with a desire to accept responsibility as best they can, for their lives.
CPAC needs to bring in all speakers and give them a good ear whether it is a moderate, conservative or more liveral republican. Then give thought to what they way and see how the many ideas can be woven together without giving up your conservative ideals. As a country, I believe we are headed down a horrible path with such liberal agendas taking over and it is soon going to be impossible to turn things around. The liberal professors have the ears of the young people and hollywood has the ears of the "followers" and of course the democrats have the ears of all who want to feel good about themselves by being politically correct. With the help of the media everyone is made to feel like they are a bad person if they don't want to accept everything, everybody and anything anyone wants to do. There is a way to help those who truly need it and get the others off of their behinds to work, volunteer, go to school etc so that we can all make this a better place and stop pitting people with different life styles against each other. Some people are rich by being in the right place at the right time but most worked their tails off and many who demonize them would love to be in their shoes but they don't have the skills or want to work the hours etc. Others are fine with their jobs and place in life and don't worry about how they compare to someone else. Life is not fair--everyone is not going to be paid fairly. Who things movie starts, athletes and new casters deserve the money they get? I don't see the dems making an issue of that. But neither do Republicans--
Oh goodness no, The War Machine is run by the Republicans and they want you to keep on having kids and more kids. Why? The Bible say Moses and his followers roamed the Dessert for 40 years. Why? God was giving him a runaround, I don't think so. If you have a large group of people you can "Create" an awfully large Army in 40 years. What was the first thing Moses did when they came to Civilization? He went and conquered an already owned country and claimed it for himself. I see a lot of compairisons between the Bible and the Republicand Party. That is one thought. The other is they want more Tax Payers in the future so they don't have to pay so much themselves. No matter how you view it, it is all about greed.
Spot on Haw.
We are all humans, individuals who have their own way of thinking, I believe its called individualism. If everyone thought the same, where would we be? To say that the conservatives should think like the liberals, that is just down right lunacy. In many ways, there are conservatives that believe in some of what the progressives spew, they are just moderates in their view.
I am considered a die hard conservative, I believe in the will of the people. Yet, both conservatives and liberals both don't believe in gay marriages. Take California as an example. The majority voted to ban Gay marriage, and you can't get any more liberal than California! No matter how hard you try, you can't change how a person feels inside. Just not going to happen. I personally don't care if a person is gay or not, what I do care about is the flaunting of their homosexuality. If and when the gay community puts their beliefs where it belongs, then they might gain some ground.
Have to love the progressives, out of one side of their mouths, they spew, it's my body, I can do what ever I want with it. Then out of the other side, Oh, thats not good for you, we will ban you from drinking 32 oz sodas, smoking cigarettes etc. They have no objections on trodding over other peoples rights, as long as it fits their agenda. Can you say hypocracy?
I do believe this country has been over taken by extremists. Left and right. We need to move back into the middle.
Clinton balanced a budget and gave this country a surplus? Funny how when the government works the way the liberal want it to, it's the President who gets the glory. But when the country is struggling to get on the right path (no pun intended), its the congress' fault.Unless it's Democratic congress, then its all the Presidents fault.
This nation is going to fall, and fall hard, unless the American people get their collective heads out of the lower extremity.
Haw
You are out of gas on Mia Love...she talks the talk but then runs up HUGE deficits as mayor. She was so scary that Even as the "Teas" spent tons of outside money on her, she still LOST to the only Demarcate in Utah.
You want to see a RED state screw its sheep and Bleed the Beast..look no farther than Utah.
And ya gotta love Baggers, they want LESS gov. BUT hey you can't get married if your gay, oh and we are telling you You have NO rights to your body once you are Pregnant. Of yea and MY favorite...you want Birth Control?? Go ask your Employer.
Talk about HYPOCRITES. You want it Both ways..that is why my old party is being cannibalized by the Teas They are dead and just don't know it yet.
Tea, you might be an individual who thinks their own thoughts but here's an example of TP logic.
You have the right and are willing to think President Obama is a failure. And the TP says I too should have the right and should be willing to think President Obama is a failure.
The TP are not diverse. They are not sensitive to other cultures and religions. They are not willing to work for America.
Can't wait to see who will be awarded the Dunce Cap for 2013. So many great candidates to choose from. I just hope they bought plenty of bottled water for Marco Rube when he gets up to bestow his vision for the party.
Rationaloutlook apparently slept through the 2000's when the Supreme Court awarded GWB president and he proceeded to give away our trillion dollar surplus to the wealthy, embed us in two wars, get over 5000 American troops killed, run up the deficit and pass NCLB and his unpaid for prescription drug plan. And they just can't figure out why the economy tanked and unemployment went through the roof.
The GOP need to change their name to the Grand Amnesia Party. Your frontal lobe has to be missing to keep voting for these sicko's. I think it's funny when an obvious Republican claims to be "Independent." This party is so bad that their own members refuse to be associated with it. lol
MSNBC always has a lot to say about the GOP.
Why don't they cover the splits within the DNC? Drones, entitlement reform, immigration, to name a few.
Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz still trying to help Batista get his dream.
Don't worry Libs, I'm sure King Obama will have his drone fleet buzzing above CPAC keeping an eye on the evil Republicans...
All is good in La-La land after all, lets just keep attacking the party not in power for not getting anything done.
The Dem's had total control for two years and what did that get us? Failed "stimulus" spending that has sunk future generations farther into a hole before they are even born. Dead American Border Agents and 300+ dead Mexican nationals at the hands of Eric Holder. Obama Care that is now even going to impact Veterinarian costs.
But hey, at least our King gets to spend millions of tax dollars weekly playing golf with Tiger Woods...
You liberals are just comical, barking moonbats foaming at the mouth over the rich while your King is spending us into oblivion while he and his family are living like royalty. People out of work and starving while the King jets around to Hawaii and hundreds of golf outings wasting millions upon millions per trip.
Yet nary a word is uttered from the mouths of the subjects of King Obama.
The hypocrisy is stunning. Or is it Ostrich syndrome?
BLABLABLABLABLA....same old line of bullsh*t we heard prior to the election and we all know how that ended now don't we?
Indeed it is...and your comment is a shining example of it.
JS-797130,You do know the drone program existed long before obama was president don't you? Or maybe you don't.....
"The hypocrisy is stunning." No, actually your stupidity is stunning. You have zero facts just dumb neocon talking points.
Why don't you spend a few minutes researching facts? Oh, I forgot, facts make your tiny little brain hurt.
Dam JS, I sure hope those drones are up there... Far as I'm concerned you guys are the one true threat to this country. You have become that domestic enemy that everybody's oath promises to defend us from. You have hijacked the party of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Eisenhower and "reformed" it with Bush, Paul, Romney, Ryan and others who have no or little idea of what this country is truly about. Yea I'm a liberal... A gun toting liberal, But I am smart enough to realize the need for a strong, intelligent Republican party not a party of NO and rejection. Just look at the whack jobs they invited to this event. Is that the best party leadership you can muster? Sad and scary... We'll keep an eye on you.
Ahh yes...it's time for the country's most notable lunatics to gather at the Crackpot Political Action Conference. Notables such as Sarah "I'm so STUPID I can barely stand it" Palin, Marco "Stay Thirsty My Friends" Rubio, "The Donald", and Romnesia top the list of attendees.
May you all have fun trying to figure out how to re-shine that turd you've been trying to sell America for the past several years.
Why so bitter?
It seems you have gotten everything you wanted and yet you continue whine and bitch. These should be the best of times for a true liberal.
Cheer up bumpken!
I'm bitter because the House Republicans has acted for the destruction of America and American families. It's time we had all branches of Government work for all of us.
Its humorous..or shall I say humorless that so far 99% of every Liberal post has comprised of "the republicans need to evolve (love that word by the way..sounds so cerebral).."evolve"..too bad their definition of evolving is becoming a democrat. waa waaa
Seriously, for a party who touts their arms being wide opened and accepting and being a representative of the 99%..they sure are ready to throw the 47% of Americans who did not vote for Obama under the bus.
No compromise..only name calling. What I find so sad is that the same bigoted intolerance "flag" they love to claim Republicans are waving...they are waving too. No don't be fooled..their flags may be brightly colored in rainbows and smiley faces but they vote for presidents who use and abuse females and the swallow their lies. They scream here on these forums they want a one party government..the democrat party..no checks..no balances..just them...doing their thing.
Well I'm sorry that my brand of Morality is dated. I don't hate homosexuals..I'm very pro homosexual. I don't think a woman should be given the choice to end a life simply because she happens to think she owns it.I'm very anti big government and believe in the premise that a hand up lays ground for work ethics rather than a hand out.
So..anyways..enjoy your new pope..I mean president.
Thats odd, I dont think a citizen has the right to determine what decisions another citizen makes in their life. If a citizen is against abortion great, they should not be required to have one (except those on welfare, if they live of the backs of fellow citizens then it should be required) .... if it is a choice that a citizen feels right for them it is not the business of anyone else.
As citizens we do it every day.The problem you seem to be having with my statement is your view that pregnancy is one sided...and on the other hand my view is that it is not.
We decide and determine on a daily basis what decisions other citizens make in their life..happens all the time.
a fertilized egg is not a life.
lana:
"I don't think a woman should be given the choice to end a life simply because she happens to think she owns it."
Rather begs the question; If she doesn't own it, who does? God? (I'm under the impression that God isn't to be included in legal determinations). The Senator from 'wherever'? Hardly. You? What authority do you claim with respect to someone else's reproductive system?
I'm a male, and I simply can't resolve the concept that some legislator in Washington, DC, has the authority to dictate to any woman, anywhere, at anytime, what she can, or cannot do with her organs.
I can't imagine what sort of ego it would take for me to dictate to my wife what she can, or cannot, do with her organs. Her organs belong to her, not me. Seems so simple.
You people are ignoring..BLATANTLY ignoring the fact that MORE than "fertilized eggs: are being sucked from their mothers wombs.
If you wanna hide behind that weak argument that a "fertilized egg is not a life" so a woman can get rid if a fetus anytime she wishes that is on your conscience. You speak of ego..I cant imagine the size of someones ego to actually think they have the authority to end a pregnancy simply cause they don't want it.
That's not YOUR life. I hope one day legislation is passed that actually affords an unborn child rights. If a man kicks a pregnant woman in the stomach and kills her unborn child .... can he be accused of manslaughter?..and why is that any different when it's the woman doing the "kicking'??Simply because of her wants?..what kind of argument is that?
The simple plain fact of the matter is..we have literally millions of women who use abortion AS contraception..that is WRONG..no two ways about it. It's as wrong as murder.
You tell me SDN..God forbid..you and your wife have a falling out and things go bad..but you always wanted a child(hypothetical)..and you find out that she is pregnant with your child and wants an abortion. You actually think you have no say???
You would sit back and allow her to terminate that pregnancy because YOUR child happens to be in her body and she has final say?..That's lunacy.
We don't allow people to commit suicide..but but..its their body!..they can do with it what they wish!!..well if they don't succeed in certain states its against the law...BUT BUT..its their body!!
Rather than applaud someone who values the unborn life and holds it in the highest regards you people sit and judge me?
So i guess when you see a pregnant woman drinking and smoking..NOTHING crosses your mind right?..no judgment whatsoever?..I guess you whisper to your self.."I guess she doesn't want it..so she can do as she pleases"..Lie to everyone here but don't lie to yourself..99% of anyone I know liberals and conservatives alike would sit back and judge..and rightly so..and you know it!
Fine.. you want to split hairs while millions of unborn fetuses are murdered daily?..Please figure out soon when a "fertilized egg is a life"..cause sweetheart after the first trimester there's no doubting it or arguing it..it is MORE than just some "fertilized tissue."
Lana,
A woman cannot get rid of a fetus whenever she wants to. A fetus is not a child. Do not make up lies to justify your position.
Redrover,
A fetus is a child. just because you say it isn't doesn't make it so. Don't make up lies to justify your position.
fe·tus
[fee-tuhs]
noun, plural fe·tus·es. Embryology .
(used chiefly of viviparous mammals) the young of an animal in the womb or egg, especially in the later stages of development when the body structures are in the recognizable form of its kind, in humans after the end of the second month of gestation.
No more RINOs welcome in the GOP. They dont need progressives like McCain and Graham, or even Christie. What the GOP needs is Americans-first members. Let the Dem left play their little divisive hate games because thats getting old and stale and wont fly any longer with anyone except the hardcore socialist/communist base
LOL! WHAT?!! They are about as far from being Progressive as we all are from Mars!! LOL!
And the GNOP did a fine job of excluding Christie all on their own. 70% approval rating in his own state and your dumbass party "elite" turn their back on him. WOW! If that isn't the hallmark of STUPID I don't know what is.
If they were going to put ANYBODY out to pasture, then why not Palin or Bachman?!! MY GOD those two c*nts are STUPID!!
Okay...there REALLY is more reputable sources of information out there than commiebuster.com. I know that's a hard concept for you low IQ folk, but seriously...take off the tin foil hat once in a while.
WOW! Keep up that kind of rhetoric and there will be no more GOP.
The party of STUPID remains committed.
tbow:
The Earth is no longer flat - and it's unlikely it ever well be again. It's strange to me that a person would considered 'learning' to be so repugnant, and somehow perceived as a 'loss' in some way.
Palin, Bauchmann? Did these people learn nothing in the last couple of elections? Stupid is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. What they don't understand (but the country does) is that they are on the wrong side of all the issues... taxes, gay marriage, woman, immigration, abortion, social security, medicare. People don't want what they're selling and it doesn't matter how they package or dress it up. They think that by digging in there heels, not compromising and being obstructionists that the country will somehow have an epiphany and realize that they're somehow right.
I love the fact they have a purity test and will not compromise even within they're own party. Christie is a national figure who's wildly popular in his own state yet because he accepts a program that benefits his constituents and has the audacity to compliment the president, he's not invited. These fools are the first to wave the flag but when you get right down to it, they're philosophy is party first, country second.
Stupid is as stupid does.
You missed it on immigration. Most polls, without biased questions, show americans want illegals deported. Not a mass deportation, but a deportation as they are found.
Lizard, please reference those polls without biased questions. Any url's you can share? I think not.
lizard legs - how's Romney's "self deportation" workin' out for ya? HA!
Need more Rand Pauls and fewer John McCains.
Why would anyone want more Rand Paul? He is the most idiotic politician around! Tiny little man with a tiny little mind, trying to be a big man with no idea how. He is as dangerous for this country as George Bush was!
Oh, the cycle and circle of life and death. The teaparty is part of the death of this party and the lies will be part of the life if the republicans can just say and not do what the majority wants. The venture for power after retaining alot of money in politics is the key to getting reelected. We need a referendum party and more pure democracy with the help of computers. This republic is going down fast and representation will never match the will of the people. Just look at all the sample polls and we see politicians doing all for the money lobbyists.
Spoken like a true racist and tyrant. If we always do what the majority wants, it would be dangerous place.
A tea bagger calling others racist. The Karl Rove spin is alive and well I see.
Hug that conservative purity tight and hope it keeps you warm when your party is in the grave.
Let them eat cake...or perhaps something else spelled with four letters.
Dems?
Well, I don't know whether to pop some corn for watching the show of these people devouring each other, or get some wieners and marshmallows for roasting over the bonfire of the Republican Party. The GOP as we've known it is history.
We have to hope your wrong, as this country will NEVER survive as dumborat country. Can NOT have that many takers, the polititions will NOT give up there money for those people. They have never given anything up to help the people on welfare or foodstamps. To bad the TAKERS can NOT figure it out.
Steve, Do you make more than $400,000 a year? If not, your party considers you a taker. Do you make more than $250,000 a year? If not, your party considers you a taker. The rich got rich off the utilities of this country, including its workers, but they don't pay a decent wage to keep people off welfare. You can't have it both ways. If you want people off welfare, pay a decent wage. Tell corporations to pay a decent wage in this country and the problem will solve itself. And, if you want to help the costs of Obamacare, insist that the public option be put back in! That will make the insurance companies and hospitals have to be competitive instead of the monopolies they are now!
Hey Steve, it's too bad there are more 'takers' as you call them in red states. Care to explain that?
Teresa! You are great!
Steve-1962, you have it all wrong re how things work economically in this country.
You have only to look at the fact that Republican Party darling Donald Trump is speaking at this stupid "conservative" conference to understand that.
Trump will make a joke about Obama's citizenship and everyone will laugh.
He'll entertain the room with his bombastic economic complaints about Obama as if he'd never declared bankruptcy all those years ago and cost the taxpayers of New York millions ...
He'll go on and on about how the Republicans can take back the White House in 2016 if they will sick to their principles.
What are those principles, pray tell? Vaginal probes? Offshore accounts for billionaires? Middle class people paying a greater percentage of their income in taxes than real estate crooks like him?
our wander when some of these people come up for reelection will they get reelected. As citizens we let them get away with this. we dont hold there feet to the fire. we depend on them to regulate themselves, with all of the dog and pony regulatory committees. its our job to regulate them. these people have no morals when it comes to helping there common man or woman. the evidence is there. look at what is happening in our country. there no response attitude. we are pretty much paying them to do none thing. look at how our elected officials Ly to our face, they pass bills that undermine the constitution some they swore an oath to protect. politicians take bribes from lobbyist, there is no transparency in our government. what happened to informing the people. thousands of service members died because we invaded a country on false evidence and know one is in jail. are we going to be the generation that's going to let our country be destroyed the greed of these politicians and 1%.
Theresa,
Read your posts again and try to imagine how incredibly foolish you look. If you actually believe what you have written, then you serve only as an example of why someone would actually vote for Obama.
It's probably too much to ask you to think about some simple numbers, but I'll give it a shot. Only a couple of percent of the population makes more than $250K. Roughly 1/3 of the population identifies itself as Republican. Do you somehow believe (beyond all credibility) that the 30% of Americans who identify themselves as Republicans and make LESS than $250K consider themselves to be TAKERS and somehow are slaves to those evil rich, and furthermore want to harm their own economic interest? (By the way, there are more rich Democrats than rich Republicans.)
"The rich got rich off the utilities of this country..." Huh? I can't even imagine what you are "thinking". (I use the word thinking loosely here.)
"Tell corporations to pay a decent wage in this country..." If you confiscated ALL the profits of all the corporations in this country and paid it out in wages to their workers, the average wage would increase less than 10%. You have no idea whereof you speak. But if you'd like to be paid more, why don't you get a job that pays more? That's a serious question. I don't know what your answer is, but my guess is that "you can't". The problem is that you don't know how to do anything that an employer values enough to pay you more for it. There's a reason that highly paid people are highly paid. It's because they're worth it.
Finally, re ObamaCare, you seem to be in favor of the worst piece of legislation passed in our lifetimes. Here's hoping you enjoy slow access to rationed Medicaid, because that's what you're going to get. The evil rich will be the only ones with good access. They'll pay their own way to see the best docs who don't want to be government conscripts. Oh yeah, if you're young or healthy, you're going to pay way too much for your lousy care, too.
economan You really need to stop watching Fox, listening to Rush and getting your info from the Donald. What I said, and will continue to say, is that if you want people off welfare, pay them a decent wage. When wages keep up with the cost of living, less people will be on welfare. What about that do you not understand? Could you live on $7.25 an hour? A lot of college graduates are, right now! When you can't afford to eat at the restaurant you serve at, or you can't afford to go to a movie at the theatre you work for, or you can't go to a doctor when you work for one, how do you get off welfare? You are a misguided person who does not care how ignorant you really seem. The workers of this country keep it going. Why is it so wrong to give them health care and a decent wage? Where are your priorities? Oh, yeah, right...with giving welfare to the already rich, right?
Theresa ; You forgot to mention, dependent child tax credit. This is nothing more than Corporate Welfare. It pays for the childern's living costs, through tax credits that are spent in a quick hurry, so that the companies can pay lower wages to the workers.
@Theresa...
I was a small company owner... I had employees... I paid $10 an hour.. but could not afford the $1,500 a month per employee for health care
Because i am sitting here eating a pizza for lunch...lets look at a pizza shop...
say 6 employees plus 2 owners..plus electric, water, rent, advertising...etc.... How many pizza do you have to sell each month to breakeven... now lets force that owner to buy health care @ $500 a person... that adds $4,000 to the expenses..lets make him increase pay to $9... thats another $3,000... $7,000 a month in extra pay and benefits.... is alot of pizza
Theresa,
At least #25.7 isn't as blatantly ridiculous as #25.2.
For people to be paid a "decent" wage, they have to be worth it. Raising the minimum wage mostly just eliminates jobs for people without useful skills. That includes many with college degrees. (How does History of Ballet qualify a person to even flip a hamburger?) If you had your way, many people who are happy to work for $7.25/hr would be not working and earning $0 per hour. Would that please you?
I understand that we pay a lot of people a lot of money not to work. Those programs (unemployment compensation, "welfare", et al) are quite successful. We're paying people more than ever not to work, and sure enough, the unemployment rate is stubbornly high.
"Why is it so wrong to give them health care and a decent wage?" Your attitude (and underlying ignorance) is showing when you use the word "give". Just where do you think all that largess comes from? I'm guessing that you really don't like the words "takers" and "makers", because it accurately labels the winners and losers in your scheme. Do you have any idea how expensive health care is? The answer is roughly $8000 per person per year! How many people's health care would YOU like to pay for besides you own? I'd love to hear a well-thought out plan from you to pay for health care in this country - one that doesn't keep us in a perpetual recession (i.e., ObamaCare).
Welfare to the rich? Give me a break. It's the rich who are paying YOUR way. I don't know your situation, but it's a pretty safe guess that anybody you would call rich pays more in taxes than you earn.
Question: How much of the fruits of another person's labor do you feel entitled to? Please give me a percentage.
It's simple economics, when wages go up, people spend more, businesses make more money. Obamacare is providing help to businesses and tax breaks for implementing it. If Republicans had allowed the public option, businesses would be able to find the best deal, making the insurance industry have no choice but to be competitive. That is something that could be fixed by amending the current bill. It is a myth that jobs are lost when minimum wage is raised. History has proven the exact opposite. Even the right leaning Heritage Foundation had to admit that truth. Small businesses know where to find the best deals and do not rely on slave labor to keep them afloat, not if they are smart. I too have a small business and was just able to start health care for all 8 of us. It will more than pay for itself in less time lost because of illness. Less stress to my employees and myself at not having to worry about every little illness being a possible bankruptcy. I pay some, my employees pay some. Its a deal I made with them to help me grow my business and it's more than working. If your small business cannot afford health care, I suggest you think again. Ford had the right idea. Pay your employees enough to be able to buy your product. They are your best sales people.
Theresa,
For someone who can connect subjects and verbs, you've written an incredibly dense collection of misinformation. It's hard to know where to start.
If that were so, why would we want or need a minimum wage law? But let's suppose that, contrary to reality, you were right. Then why not make the minimum wage $20/hr. Or $50/hr. Think how rich we all could be.
Absolutely false. I haven't seen any studies in recent years, but that's because there's no point in them any more. Studies in the past have always shown exactly the opposite. Common sense would agree, too.
No, it's simpleton economics. Even President Obama has been caught admitting the truth about the minimum wage. He believes that it is worth the loss of jobs. Of course, if you are successful in your business, he believes that you owe your success and much of your profit to the government, apparently for the privilege of living in his workers paradise.
News flash: Health insurance doesn't keep people from getting sick. Let me know how that works out for you. Lest you find another ridiculous insult to hurl about how I'm a heartless knuckle-dragger who wants Grandma to eat dog food and die of scurvy in the streets, let me say I'm quite in favor of employers providing health insurance for their employees. If you really wanted to help them the most, you'd pay the entire cost. Our tax laws are skewed so that what you pay is tax deductible, and what your employees pay is not. Better you should pay it all, deduct the money from what you would otherwise have paid them, and the give them a raise with your tax savings.
What I'm not in favor of is a mandate. It will be a major cause of unemployment. Some jobs just aren't worth $7.25/hour plus $5000/year for health insurance. (Some jobs aren't worth $7.25/hour. But you can't name a one, can you? That's because those jobs are illegal and don't exist. Someone trying to pick up a few extra bucks at an easy job is out of luck, thanks to Big Brother who knows what's best for us.) Suppose the minimum wage were $30/hour. Your business wouldn't exist, would it? How would your employees feel about the minimum wage in that case?
Let me change my last question in #25.10 around: How much of the fruits of YOUR labor should a person be entitled to? That is, a person who wouldn't take a job working for you because unemployment insurance, plus food stamps, plus Section 8 housing, plus Medicaid is worth more than what you can afford to pay him?
