If I remember right, Boehner and the Republicans offered to close loop holes for the rich in lieu of raising the tax rate on the rich and Obama REFUSED, saying it was raising the tax rate or nothing, so he got his tax rate increase to the tune of around $600 billion. (Still haven't seen any cuts, except for those in the WHs sequester). Now it appears Obama wants those loop hole cuts to even after he got his rate increase.

Our President and no other person, what-so-ever, can decide where the cuts are made, what programs get funded and which do not. That was part of the law created with the Budget Control Act of 2011.

The cuts are across the board cuts which is why everyone has said that these are dumb cuts.

As General Ray Odierno said yesterday on "Morning Joe" and "CBS This Morning" under sequestration he is not allowed to move funds around in FY13.

Senate Sequester Replacement Bills

Senate Republicans proposed a Sequester Replacement bill that even 9 Republican Senators voted against that would give our President unprecedented power to decide where to cut spending. Republican Senators that voted against the bill didn't want to set a precedent that gave that power to the Whitehouse.
Why would Congress ever give that power to the Executive Office?
It's called the "Blame Game". Republicans know these cuts over time (regardless where they are made) will be felt by many people so when citizens start to complain Republicans would be able to point fingers at our President saying He is the one who decided what and where to cut … blame him.

The President stated he would veto a bill giving him the authority to make the cuts if passed. So there was 9 Republican Senators who voted against, so how many Democrats voted against it? It appears the Senate had 91 members who voted for it. Of course Republicans, and rightly so, would filibuster a bill for smaller spending cuts and new taxes. They just gave the President his tax rate increase that he wanted.

Of course it's the BLAME GAME, the President has been doing it every since he has been in the White House. He is on his SECOND term and it is time he accepts responsibility and quit DEMANDING that he is entitled to all of his ideas

As far as giving him the authority to make the cuts, it would be for the $85 billion only and would not pertain to any spending bills in the future. BTW, the President would not make the cuts personally, he would delegate it to the Departments, I am sure they could find a lot of places to cut without to many problems.

Hey thinker-318752...the federal government must be forced to pay back with interest the money stolen from the Social Security trust fund. I wish I could understand why so many Americans believe that Social Security and Medicare should be cut. And although I know this country must have compassion for those in need for "legitimate" reasons...Medicaid as we know it today needs to be thrown out a window and a formula for regulation developed to keep the able bodied working and those less fortunate off the streets living in boxes. And I can't even begin to express my feelings concerning the treatment of veterans in this country...but that's another multi-episode TV special.
