Former Gov. Mark Sanford is up with his first TV ad in his bid for South Carolina's 1st congressional district, appealing to voters and a "God of second chances."
"I've experienced how none of us go through life without mistakes. But in their wake we can learn a lot about grace, a God of second chances and be the better for it," Sanford says in the ad.
It's all part of a campaign to rehabilitate his political career after it seemed to end in scandal. When he was governor, Sanford disappeared for days, with staff first saying he was hiking the Appalachian Trail before Sanford himself acknowledged he had in fact gone to Argentina to visit his mistress.
Sanford was married at the time -- and he used taxpayer money to pay for another trip to South America when he visited his lover. He eventually reimbursed the state for the costs.
Sanford is now engaged to the Argentine woman, Maria Belen Chapur.
Sanford is one of 16 Republicans running in the primary to replace now-Sen. Tim Scott. His ex-wife, Jenny Sanford, considered a bid for the seat before deciding not to run.
The district, in South Carolina's Lowcountry, is strongly Republican, and the winner of the GOP primary is likely to end up in Congress.
Still, the race is drawing attention from both sides of the aisle: Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, is running for the seat as a Democrat.

A pollster called my house last week and asked if I planned to vote in the republican primary, to which I stated I would. She then asked me if they could count on my support for Mark Sanford. I said emphatically "NO, first off, I don't have amnesia nor do I support liars and cheats and those that misuse public funds." I hung up and wish I hadn't, because I really wanted to ask the pollster if they could answer a few questions for me like, "How stupid does he really think the people of South Carolina are?" or "If you can use such poor judgment while you were already in office, how can you possibly believe that you can be trusted in a public office again?".
I would also like to remind the folks that are toying with the idea that Hillary Clinton should run for office in 2016, don't be idiot amnesiacs and forget about Benghazi, the Whitewater scandal or Vince Foster for that matter. Or the fact that she is also married to a liar and cheat. When she said that she was culpable for the four deaths in Benghazi, I wondered if anyone else thought about Vince Foster....I did.
Mark spent South Carolina taxpayers money to win his mistress and now looking to get Federal taxpayers money to keep her in the life style she wants. Notice how Republicans use God for their crimes and sins as if that's the answer. South Carolina voters approved Mark's stealing and cheating so much they gave him a finally passing grade as Governor. Jenny like other Republican wives knew all about it but kept silent and hopes Mark will give her a job if elected. Just think the voters of South Carolina vote their Christian Moral Values when selecting a candidate and voted for two time wife cheater/crook Newt Gingrich as President. All Newt had to say is I will not cheat on this wife wink wink and he won. This is one reason the enemy has such an easy time attacking the US as it's the dumb citizens that make it easy. Many citizens in South Carolina wanted Mark to run for President with his mistress and ex wife.

Why is it all of you on the Vine think either Democrats or Republicans are worth defending? You have voted in roughly 475 people that do not have real jobs, do not go to work everyday, pay less taxes than you, have gold plated benefits (you do not), and no little or nothing about running a business much less a country?
They all have more money than you, more priveledges than you, live in better neighborhoods than you, get insider trading information to make them more rich than you. They get elected by private funding (corporate) and enjoy the benefits of being a professional politician. Making them an expert in nothing but getting elected.
Yet day after day I see both sides trying to defend their side (or point of view) which is not defendable by anyone with just a slight bit of common sense. Then to make matters worse you keep electing these crooks and wonder why the country is turning into a POS.
This guy Sanford seems to fit right in with the rest and yes he will probably get elected to office again because Americans have lost the ability to THINK!
