WASHINGTON -- Seeking to put to rest questions on whether Barack Obama was a straight shooter when he claimed he went skeet shooting "all the time," the White House on Saturday offered proof: a photo of the president blasting away at clay targets.
Obama drew skepticism when he made the assertion in a recent interview with the New Republic magazine, an attempt to show sympathy for hunters even as he pushes for tighter gun controls after the Newtown school shooting massacre in December.
Obama's aides were in the awkward position of standing by his comments while resisting reporters' demands for proof that he was indeed a regular on the shooting range at the presidential retreat in the Maryland mountains.
The White House finally weighed in on Saturday with a photo of Obama skeet shooting at Camp David last August 4.
"For all the ‘skeeters'," Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said in a Twitter message linked to the photo, which showed the president -- wearing sunglasses, jeans and noise mufflers on his ears -- firing a shotgun with smoke spraying from the barrel.
It was unclear, however, whether a single photo would satisfy skeptics about his claim that he and his guests frequently shoot clay pigeons at Camp David.
Obama, in the New Republic interview, was asked if he had ever fired a gun.
"Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," Obama said.
"The whole family?" he was asked.
"Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there. And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake."
Conservative critics immediately questioned the Democratic president's assertion, and talk show comedians had a field day with the idea that he had taken up shooting as a hobby.
U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn, a Tennessee Republican, even challenged Obama to a skeet-shooting contest.
Obama's comment was widely seen as an attempt to reach out to gun owners to ease their concerns about his legislative proposals, the biggest gun control push in decades. He will travel to Minnesota on Monday to speak on gun control.

Real skeet shooters recognize Obama's stance as not consistent with really shooting. He is posing and shooting a lightweight "demostration round".
But that is almost irrelevent. Any real Constitutional scholar would recognize that the 2nd Amendment has nothing at all to do with hunting, skeet shooting, or target practice. So Obama is either an idiot (which I don't believe) or an outright liar and deceiver.

Evidently you are the one who needs to join the 'fact based world'. That stance shows that Obama is a rank amateur at best and there is no way he was skeet shooting with it. An idiot who tries to shoot a 12-gauge shotgun with that stance is going to end up with a very bruised shoulder at the minimum and will probably be picking himself off of the ground after the first shot.
I've seen skeet and trap shooters, and I've even done a bit myself. 12-gauge shotguns often kick like a mule so you take a stance that will absorb as much of that kick as possible - bent knees, elbows slightly bent and out...

Having emerged from the womb knowing the proper stance and grip for skeet shooting without requiring any type of training or period of practice to improve their techniques is what separates Republicans from Democrats. How embarrassing to have a photo taken of our President, an occasional shooter, not meeting the exacting standards of those who are blessed from birth to be experts. Now all Republicans need is to find someone who knows how to govern, who knows how to separate what is crucial from what is distraction, and the party will find itself thick with qualified skeet shooting presidential candidates. Unfortunately, they will be more likely to find a leprechaun with a shot gun than someone who knows how to govern. Unfortunate.

I shoot skeet quite a bit....it is often, especially if going after two in a row, that the plane of your shot is low.
Try going shooting once in a while and you might be able to add to the conversation.

If you do actually have all those weapons, and still do not know what 'porting' a barrel is, then I am scared.
I have shotguns, throwers and always a couple of boxes of target shot....all I need usually is to go down and get the targets...they are delicate.

You can use a thrower, or a hand held hurler.
