Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sidestepped questions about her presidential ambitions in 2016, though she was the beneficiary of effusive praise from her boss, President Barack Obama, in a new interview on Sunday.
Neither Obama nor Clinton would address the elephant in the room — whether the outgoing secretary of state, Obama's 2008 primary opponent, should seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 — in an interview aired Sunday on CBS's "60 Minutes."
"You guys in the press are incorrigible," a laughing Obama said in the interview, which was taped on Friday. "I was literally inaugurated four days ago. And you're talking about elections four years from now."
But the topic of a prospective second bid for the presidency by Clinton is already on the tongues of most political professionals of both parties. Clinton allowed a knowing chuckle at a congressional hearing last week when a Republican congressman, referring to her possible ambitions, said: "I wish you the best in your future endeavors — mostly."
Clinton leaves office as secretary of state arguably at the apex of her popularity; 56 percent of Americans expressed a positive opinion of the former first lady in January's NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, and she leaves office with a 69 percent approval rating.
But, in the rare joint interview with the president, Clinton refused to engage the speculation.
"I am still secretary of state. So I'm out of politics. And I'm forbidden from even hearing these questions," she said.
Clinton nonetheless offered a coy morsel of what she may or may not decide to do in 2016.
"I don't think, you know, either he [Obama] or I can make predictions about what's going to happen tomorrow or the next year," she said.
Should she decide to run, though, Clinton's campaign might return to Sunday's "60 Minutes" interview for clips of Obama's overflowing praise to use in campaign ads.
Obama, for instance, said that Clinton would go down in history "as one of the finest secretary of states we've had."
"I think everybody understands that Hillary's been you know, one of the most important advisors that I've had on a whole range of issues," Obama said at another point in the interview.
And the president even made a pronouncement that would have seemed unthinkable during the bitter 2008 primary campaign between the two former senators: "I consider Hillary a strong friend." (Clinton, for her part, described her relationship with the president as "very warm" and "close.")
"Look, that is just ancient history now," Clinton said of the animosity from the 2008 campaign. "And it's ancient history because of the kind of people we all are, but also we're professionals."
Still, as Clinton mulls her future options during the time she's expected to take to relax upon leaving office, other potential Democratic candidates might move forward with their own campaigns-in-waiting.
That includes another administration heavyweight, Vice President Joe Biden, who's seen as likely to preserve his own option to seek the Democratic nomination in 2016.
But lest Obama's praise for Clinton be interpreted as a tacit endorsement of his secretary of state over his vice president, the president heaped praise on Biden just a week ago, too.
"One decision I know was absolutely correct -- absolutely spot on -- was my choice of vice president," Obama said Sunday at an inaugural reception. "I could not have a better partner than Joe Biden."

ibsleepy, are you saying President Obama tried changing the constitution so he could run again? All presidents have used Executive Orders. By this time in the Bush administration, Bush has used it twice as much as President Obama.
PROVE IT. Obama has not tried to use executive order at all to over ride the 22nd AMENDMENT. When are you righties going to actually READ the United States Constitution?

I've worked with blacks all my life and they not that much different than whites. Most are hard working people and the ones I had worked with was more against drugs , crime , etc than most whites. There are more whites than blacks on food stamps . There are a lot of whites where would prefer a black as a neighbor.

I watched that interview and I wasn't impressed. Of course they acted like "true statesmen" as someone posted above, they are of the same progressive beliefs. If you put any two elected officials with the same views they will act the same. I wonder what the real intentions of the biased media was in this interview? Isn't 60 Minutes supposed to be a "News" program? What kind of lame ass reporter doesn't ask questions that make their interviewee uncomfortable? This was nothing more than a PR stint!!!

I have noticed most of the libs have big egoes and really love name calling. As a matter of fact, for winners they sure whine a lot. They actually think someone cares who is president. Most of us care about what is being done to our country, not who is in the White House. For 4 years, Bush was blamed for everything. I thought once Obama won again, he would be blaming himself for the prior 4 years. Oh, it's not Obama, but his followers who just cannot seem to think he has done nothing but good.
Considering Joe Biden exhibits many of the symptoms of onset Alzhiemers, from the childish giggling and smirking during the debate, to claiming to have heard gunshots from the massacre in Lancaster County, not possible because of his location at the time and the frequency of inadverdant slips of the tongue combined with his age and it would be prudent to realize that something is having an increased affect on his competency and Mrs. Clinton would be a much wiser, safer choice.

I believe it really does'nt matter her intentions. She dodged for 4 months answering questions about Bengazi and when she finally testified she said nothing. One last thing, Ms Clinton said in her hearing that they did not have the nessesary information to make a desicion during the attack. Yet Washington DC has now passed them in income per capita, yet they only get there by extracting it from the rest of us American. We need to work together NOT against each other by party. Lets get the right people for the job NOT just those the rich want in to protect themselves and make them richer.

She should go down as one of the only Secretary of State who allowed an Ambassador get murdered because she and the white house denied help for him and the others. Help was requested and denied. When one of the soldiers on duty 50 miles away heard of this, he defied his orders and went to help them. Unfortunately he was too late. He was relieved of his duties for trying to save them, yet Hillary, who took the blame, is touted as "one of the best Secretaries of State" . I bet this makes you Democrats so proud of her. Any other administration would have fired her, but she has too much dirt on Obama the Communist, and he has too much dirt on her, so they just let it slide. Congress is too soft to do anything. Yes she was drilled by Republicans at the hearing, but did anything get done? NO! Nothing will get done. After her term is officially done, which it should be, she could be tried for this. Will it happen? No! Republicans are scared to death of her. Whoever tries to prosecute her will end up dead like all the other people who tried to do anything to the Clintons. Look up the list of people who have mysteriously died that are linked to the Clintons. It is rather interesting. Most of this occurred before Bill was in the White House. Only a murderer could endure letting their own people die in Libya, and have the fortitude to smile and celebrate with Obama in good spirits about how well her term went. Do you think I liked Bush? Hell no. I didn't want two wars. I felt something needed to be done about the Taliban, and I think if we hadn't reacted, there would have been a lot more attacks than Fort Hood. But this war has gone on long enough. While we spend billions on overseas operations, we have people still without heat and water in New York from Hurricane Sandy? Did you know that? The liberal media stopped talking about it. There are still thousands in New York without heat and some without power. My Aunt is one of them. I've been trying to get her to stay with us, but she has a good job there. She's been staying with friends in other parts of the city. Three months and people are still suffering. Congress wouldn't allow all of the relief funds to be released, because the Democrats tried to sneak a bunch of pork into the bill that would not help those people at all. The Democrats just spend spend spend. They hide as much crap in each bill they can, so they can use a lot of the intended money for one thing to be used on many other things. Thats the only good thing the Repubs have done is stop this from happening by only releasing part of the money for now. Chances are they will get bullied into letting the rest of the money get into the hands of some crony of the Democrats for reelection. The Republicans we have now are just RINO'S (Republican in Name Only) and have no spine. So as you can see. There really isn't any hope, except either sit and wait it out, and hope we can vote in a better system, which with the low-information sheeples we have in this country, due to the public liberal schooll systems we probably won't. OR, we can have a revolutionary war, which would probably turn into a Civil War because this country is divided. How much more freedom lost is it going to take before the Americans wake up and decide to fight for their rights? Well, as long as people are fed, housed, heated, cooled, given free health-care and phone, computer, etc they will not care about their freedom being lost. As long as they can sit on their couch all day and wait for that check to come every month, who needs freedom? Well how long can this go on? Eventually, less and less people will work. Its already almost 50/50. The government just keeps printing money. We are the only country who can do this, by the way. Eventually, the money will be worthless pieces of cotton and paper. People will have no reason to work, because a loaf of bread will cost $50 due to hyper-inflation. The have-nots will whine and cry when the checks stop coming in. They will then FINALLY rise against the government like they did in Greece. They will be fighting for their free entitlements though. Not for the freedom of making their own money and not being a slave to the government. Until everyone relying on the government realizes they are a SLAVE to the government, nothing will ever get done. I love my country, and want it to be saved. I just wish people really knew how bad things really are. They look at Obama as some sort of God. Why? He doesn't care about us.
