Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sidestepped questions about her presidential ambitions in 2016, though she was the beneficiary of effusive praise from her boss, President Barack Obama, in a new interview on Sunday.
Neither Obama nor Clinton would address the elephant in the room — whether the outgoing secretary of state, Obama's 2008 primary opponent, should seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 — in an interview aired Sunday on CBS's "60 Minutes."
"You guys in the press are incorrigible," a laughing Obama said in the interview, which was taped on Friday. "I was literally inaugurated four days ago. And you're talking about elections four years from now."
But the topic of a prospective second bid for the presidency by Clinton is already on the tongues of most political professionals of both parties. Clinton allowed a knowing chuckle at a congressional hearing last week when a Republican congressman, referring to her possible ambitions, said: "I wish you the best in your future endeavors — mostly."
Clinton leaves office as secretary of state arguably at the apex of her popularity; 56 percent of Americans expressed a positive opinion of the former first lady in January's NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, and she leaves office with a 69 percent approval rating.
But, in the rare joint interview with the president, Clinton refused to engage the speculation.
"I am still secretary of state. So I'm out of politics. And I'm forbidden from even hearing these questions," she said.
Clinton nonetheless offered a coy morsel of what she may or may not decide to do in 2016.
"I don't think, you know, either he [Obama] or I can make predictions about what's going to happen tomorrow or the next year," she said.
Should she decide to run, though, Clinton's campaign might return to Sunday's "60 Minutes" interview for clips of Obama's overflowing praise to use in campaign ads.
Obama, for instance, said that Clinton would go down in history "as one of the finest secretary of states we've had."
"I think everybody understands that Hillary's been you know, one of the most important advisors that I've had on a whole range of issues," Obama said at another point in the interview.
And the president even made a pronouncement that would have seemed unthinkable during the bitter 2008 primary campaign between the two former senators: "I consider Hillary a strong friend." (Clinton, for her part, described her relationship with the president as "very warm" and "close.")
"Look, that is just ancient history now," Clinton said of the animosity from the 2008 campaign. "And it's ancient history because of the kind of people we all are, but also we're professionals."
Still, as Clinton mulls her future options during the time she's expected to take to relax upon leaving office, other potential Democratic candidates might move forward with their own campaigns-in-waiting.
That includes another administration heavyweight, Vice President Joe Biden, who's seen as likely to preserve his own option to seek the Democratic nomination in 2016.
But lest Obama's praise for Clinton be interpreted as a tacit endorsement of his secretary of state over his vice president, the president heaped praise on Biden just a week ago, too.
"One decision I know was absolutely correct -- absolutely spot on -- was my choice of vice president," Obama said Sunday at an inaugural reception. "I could not have a better partner than Joe Biden."

If Clinton knew this strategic ambiguity before, she could have had more success long ago. Although I think her time has passed, it's her decision ... to run or not in 2016. Hers alone. She has earned it.

Watching 60 Minutes made me think once again how much I admire President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton. It also occurred to me why the GOP/TP and Fox News so adamantly hate them and constantly refer to the President as the Democrat "messiah."
It is simply jealousy. They have absolutely no one in the GOP/TP Senate or Congress that commands the respect or elicits the admiration of American citizens the way that President Obama does. Republicans desperately wish they had someone with the integrity and honor of Barack Obama, but there is no one, and it must be intensely frustrating for them to realize they have been unable to crush the President politically or personally in spite of their supreme attempts from all angles.
And Hillary Clinton has been nothing less than amazing as Secretary of State. Talk about grit!

When George W. Bush ran in 2000 and 2004, no one gave a damn about a possible 'dynasty.' But when Hillary ran, she was so vilified that the race was hard to watch. As great as the US is, there is still room for improvement.
As Barack ran in 2008 to make a point about racial justice that should be attainable if we continue to fight and don't lose heart, Hillary should sacrifice her peace in retirement and come out in 2016 to make a point about gender equality.

It just kills me when I hear how the Republicans criticize Obama for not being bipartisan, he tried that for the last 4 yrs, and where did that get him, the party of no even when Obama agreed to their terms, so now Obama will do what the people elected him for and whats best for the country.

slodon, it was a campaign! There were dozens of combinations of vilifying on both sides. As soon as the primaries were over and Obama moved forward, the vilifying ended. Perhaps it is something the GOP should try sometime. They lost again to President Obama after four years of doing nothing BUT vilifying him to the detriment of the nation. Actually, I hope they don't try it.

You need to give credit where credit is due. If Bush has to bear the brunt of blame for the economy and it's continued puttering, he at least deserves credit for starting the end-to-bin-Laden campaign. Gore would not have gone after the guy after 9/11, so Obama wouldn't have gotten him if not for Bush putting the troops out there. Total credit cannot go to Obama for work that Bush put in years before Obama was even contemplating presidency.

They put Grover Norquist ahead of their oath to the country. Yes elections do have consequences. There are still republicans that put the country ahead of their oath to Grover. There is no correlation between a financial melt down that Obama has fixed without the help of the republicans in congress, and Obama's success at bringing both wars to a conclusion as the Commander in Chief. While I can agree with you on all points it's not the republican's job to tell who to love, who we can marry, want religion we should be, but call medicare and SS what they are. While I will not go out on a limb for the republican party, in no way shape or form should my hardearned money go into a pool for all to use. If anyone who didn't put money into SS or medicare/medicad then yes it's an entitlement, plain and simple, I personally don't think they should even be there, each individual should be responsible for their own means of retirement.
While this would have been an option 30 years ago, sadly due to our gov't's interefernce and big world banking and a never ending debt to the federal reserve they need that slush fund, uh-hum I mean SS to help fund our interest debt. There was a time when 60 Minutes was above reproach, but those days are long gone. Obama has been on 60 Minutes probably more then anyone else, a staggering 17 times and it has never been anything but a love fest. No tough questions, more like a choreographed and scripted performance. There was major friction between the Clinton's and Obama during the 2008 campaign, and yet the lust for power is so alluring that we get some Hillary 2016 kick off courtesy of 60 Minutes. Let us not forget the truth.
During the campaign, Bill Clinton appeared to directly attack his wife’s rival, telling PBS’ Charlie Rose before the Iowa caucuses that voting for Obama is "a roll of the dice." He also said the Obama campaign "played the race card on me" after he likened Obama’s South Carolina win to Jesse Jackson’s in the 1980s, and publicly said Obama’s opposition to the Iraq war was "a big fairy tale."
The Obama campaign calling Bill Clinton a racist, imagine that? But that is the liberal way of dealing with anyone that disagrees with Obama.

Obama is as partisan as they come. He totally failed to unite the country like a true leader and instead has blatantly acted in such a way so to increase division. Of course, being an excellent politician, one cannot fault him for using divide and conquer to his benefit. He is now actively engaging in dividing the republicans against each other and doing fine job of it.
As far as integrity goes, here is a quote for you:

June 5, 2007 Obama gave a speech at Hampton University where he accused the Bush administration of not caring about the people of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, based on New Orleans not being exempt from the Stafford Act as New York City and Florida had been exempted after disasters. Two weeks earlier that very exemption was granted in an 80-14 vote in the Senate. Not only did Obama vote on it, he was one of the 14 that voted AGAINST giving New Orleans the waiver.
So when he gave the speech on June 5th, he was telling a premeditated, bald-faced lie.
Yep, the same Obama that went to one church for 20 years and never heard the preacher say one negative thing about America. Yep, that liar.

I have always been impressed with Mrs.Clinton.I.M.O. she was the brains in the Clinton family .I would have gladly voted for her as P.O.T.U.S. if she had of been the one that had been offered. If she runs in 2006, it will be a more difficult choice for me to want as J Biden would make an excellent choice too. When President Obama was elected and then re-elected, the majority of U.S. citizens were happy and the vast majority of people in countries which want us to step up as world leaders were very happy. If Ms Clinton decides to run for president our enemies will be rooting against her for the same reasons. All this truly grinds Republicans.
We all expect things to get nastier in the political discussions during the next 3 1/2 years leading up to the next election. Again, you are free to believe what you want, and others have the right to their beliefs, with no one being persecuted for them. There are people who believe in God or a higher power in many religions including Muslims and Jews, and these religions also regard abortion, homosexuality and same sex marriage as evil. Even Buddhist and Hindu's are opposed to these evils. There is no religion in this world that supports these evils. If you know of any religion that supports these evils I would like to know. Its immaterial whether anyone believes in the Ten Commandments or not, but those those commandments are the basis of human existence for millions of people. Those who choose to support abortion, homosexuality and same sex marriage do not have a spritual relationship with God or their higher power.

I too am a independent & would like to know why you think that a majority thinks the way you do? I seem to recall that California voted to restrict marriage between a man & woman the same as a lot of other states as well as the abortion issue. It's not the majority that's being heard when a gay judge tosses it out. The constitution was based on the majority but the minority uses it to block issues it does not like. They can always find a judge to agree with them somewhere. The courts are usually democrats or republicans & tend to think along the lines of the people who appoint them. When you have 9 judges who read the same book & can't reach the same conclusions then we have a problem.

I'm basing my view as a majority based on recent polling by several polls, including the Wall Street Journal and Pew...that over 60% of Americans think that abortion should remain legal, asked if Roe vs. Wade should be overturned, the results were that it should be upheld. Also, that over 50% believe that same sex marriage should be legal and same benefits upheld in those same polls. Over 60% believe that don't ask/don't tell discontinued is a good thing. California is one example yes, but what do you have to say about 3 other states in the past year have legalized same sex marriage since California's ballot. I'd say that proves that more states are having it on the ballot, and the voters are approving it, hence a majority of voters opinions and values have been changing.
Again, the constitution states freedom of religion; and that the federal government would not sanction or set up a federal religion. The supreme court has always had a somewhat bias feeling and ruling, and has been getting more political over the last 50 years; part of our democracy since different administrations get to appoint them for life.

What all that proves is that the source of the idea of WMD in Iraq went deeper than our elected officials. Remember what "agent in charge" Bill Newell did with the ATF gun running with mexico starting with wide receiver then later fast and furious and yet no one will admit to coming up with the idea? Remember how the ATF handled the religious compound in Waco TX? We need to be sure agencies like the ATF, FBI, and CIA are reformed as well as we can, and put in some checks and balances as well so they don't take the country down the road to war when that's simply not the right choice.

Approximately 40 years ago God was taken out of our schools. No morning prayer or devotions, etc. This country has been going downhill since then.
