Vote pandering for who...he can't run again. In the wake of the Mitt in the GOP Primary v Mitt in the General Election, I'm really not certain why you categorize this as the 'biggest flip flop ever'.

The President's actions are consistent...with DOMA...with the repeal of DADT. At the Federal level, the President did what he could do by not enforcing DOMA. He can only make a plea at the State level.

Outside of you continually attempting to manufacture a hypocrisy by simply saying one exist, you have yet to provide anything along the lines of proof that the President was saying one thing while simultaneously pursuing the opposite legislatively.

I'm watching the motorcade right now and it's so heartwarming to see the number of people running along the crowd to stay up with the President's motorcade. They can't get enough of him.

It's really nice to se the Illinois band that raised enough money to get to go and perform. This is a day they will NEVER forget!

And, the crowd is so diverse - again. It speaks for this President's ability to reach out to eveyrone.

Actually I voted for him the first time around. I was very excited after two years of bush to finally have someone in office that would accomplish things. I supported him up until ACA, and then my excitement diminished greatly. After watching him for another year, the division he was creating in the country across the spectrum and the way he started going off the plantation.

I came to realize that him being president was like me trying to be a hardware major. I just wasn't good at it, so I continued and finished my software degree.

I personally haven't made anything about him or anything that I've stated that I didn't like that he did.

I saw the students who rented a bus, filled their back packs with goodies, and walked 3 miles to see inauguration of Obama on CLTV .

A bus load of Elmhurst College students and some faculty members left Sunday evening with the goal of making in time for the inauguration.

The students are a diverse group. Some are freshman still excited about their first election. Others are seniors ready to enter the job market. With majors ranging from economics to education, they share the desire to witness history.

For senior Seccoyah Williams, who is about to graduate in a month, witnessing history on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is icing on the cake.

"I'm going to witness the first black president inaugurated for the second time," she said. "That is awesome as an African American woman."

It's an opportunity many here couldn't pass up.

"I've always loved history, since I've been little this is so excited to witness it," freshman Patrick Ackerman said.

The plan is to drive by bus all night Sunday, arrive in DC by 7:30 a.m. Monday, then walk three and half miles to the National Mall by the time President Obama is sworn in.

They hope to get as close as they can.

The trip was organized by freshman Stanley Washington, who like many of these students cast his first presidential vote in November 2012.

"Being able to vote and say we contributed to the political process and now going to the inauguration," he said. "Fantastic moment for us."

One doesn't have to be old enough to vote to appreciate the memory.

Autumn Beauchamp, 9, is tagging along with her dad for the historic event. "I'm going to tell all my friends i saw the president live," she said

The Republicans conceded to Obama with the Cliff. Now onto the debt ceiling, but Obama is already throwing down the hammer and making demands.... Please explain to me how this is good governance. How is this good for our country? Republicans just showed him and the country good faith by giving him what he wanted. Now he needs to give them a little in return. When you don't have give and take, when you don't allow elected officials govern and craft legislation that represents all of the citizens it is called a dictatorship. Is that what anyone wants? Bill Clinton was a breath of fresh air, I don't care what him and Monica did, nor do a majority today. Its the same minority on steroids that have claimed everything from Obama wasn't born here, he is a Muslim with terrorist ties. etc. I can probably fill a page with the things that Obama has been accused of. Ok first of all he was sworn in yesterday. It had to be done my the 20th. Second he decides to do the dog and pony show on a federal holiday. With this event every federal worker is at work today and they are making time and a half or double time. We are paying twice the cost for this event so he can pretend that this happened on MLK day. This whole event means nothing. The record books will show that he was sworn into office on the 20th. Everything he is doing today will not be in the history books. This is all a show. Nothing more. Isn't that a little harsh (and a little irrational). It is well established that the debt, including the $8 trillion for which you hold President Obama responsible was mostly caused by two wars and the tax cuts that did not expire until 2012. Add to that the extra spending that was NECESSARY to deal with the recession. You can also blame Congress, since the President is only constitutionally authorized to spend money allocated by Congress.

Note that the Republican House of Representatives never had a single solution to the debt issue, but they did try to sell that tired old Republican myth that if they give even more tax breaks to the "job creators" everything would be fine. Trickle down is an economic myth, but it sure as hell makes the wealthy wealthier and, after all, isn't that the point of Republican politics?

Yes, with the aid of Congress. With his approval, he never broke out the veto pen until his last two years.

Top that the economy was headed into the dump, the worst recession since the great depression and it would have probably been a decade long depression if it wasn't the money that Obama did spend. Yes, with the ok of congress. Something like 800 billion. Which by the way was 66% tax cuts to put more money into circulation.

They only work 24/7 on trips with the president. I can tell you that every cop in DC that did not have approved vacation was working today as added security. The road crews were working to put up and maintain the barriers in the area. Extra firefighters and paramedics were in the crowd and at the stations just in case. More doctors and nurses were working. When you have a crowd like that you get all kinds of medical problems. I am a cop. I know how this works. When we had the Waldo Canyon fire here in Colorado they had topull cops off the roads that were blocking for the fire to provide extra security for the Presidents visit. So yes they had to pay more for this even due to it being a federal holiday. If you think the cops can just say no it is a holiday then you have no clue what you are talking about. The presidents inauguration speech and the issues he prioritized leave me less than inspired.

Unlike Beverly in Chicago I take a different look at Obama speech. What I got out of it, is when one of my kids wanted to play in the same spot the other two were and they would not let them, they would go crying to their mother. No one is defending Romney's comment...I'm pointing out that Democrats were foaming at the mouth over his attitude that "these people won't vote for me no matter what so why should I care about them" and then enact the EXACT same disenfranchising attitude in the actual governnance of the country.

Clearly, Obama is not interested in representing the 47% of Americans who didn't vote for him. It was clear in his first term and it appears that he's moving even further into the disenfranchising mode. This is yet another example of the stupidity of Americans to think that all western democracies are in Europe.

So John, perhaps you should give the readers a little better explanation of why things are so much better in Canada vs. here in the States.

Our once envied U.S. economy is collapsing under the weight of the nanny-state the Liberals are creating and our increasingly illiterate and dependent populace willingly submits. As we see the chaos and violence increasing in the European Union Socialist States the same is not far from our sovereign soil. This is the direct result of a century of Progressivism with its social and economic justice for the collective nonsense. Their dysfunctional Keynesian economic model continues to fail just as it did during the Great Depression. Envelope all this in the bleeding-heart political correctness they espouse and it’s easy to see why our great Federal Constitutional Republic is disappearing into their dangerous belief we are a Democracy.

To understand how we can at least correct our economic problems the simple concepts of Constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility and true free-market principles need to be restored. The simplest example of many of these can be seen by simply looking North, to Canada.

Twenty years ago Canada underwent a deep recession and was on the brink of a debt crisis as a result or uncontrolled government spending. The Wall Street Journal described them as becoming an “honorary member of the third world” and the “northern peso” as its currency. But with common sense economics they cut spending, balanced their budget and enacted true pro-market reforms. Their economy boomed, unemployment dropped and the usually weak Canadian dollar reached parity with the U.S. dollar.

Realistically we are in much worse fiscal shape than Canada was yet we refuse to make the Draconian austerity reforms necessary. The convoluted notion that Keynesianism will fix our economy must be rejected and finally put to rest never to be seen again. We risk becoming a “first world” country similar to those in Europe with huge deficit spending wrecking economies and ruining future opportunities for our children.

Even though Canada still has a large welfare state we can learn quite a bit from its courageous efforts to shrink government and adopt more free-market reforms to create strong economic growth and resurrect our wealth, prosperity and standard of living.

Canada, like the U.S., has a long history of stable limited government and prosperity early in the 20^th century. Early leaders were liberals, however they understood the concept of low taxation and small government to attract immigrants and investment.

Prior to the 60’s Canada believed in a decentralized federation and supported individual liberty and independence. This changed dramatically in the late 1960’s, especially under Pierre Trudeau, resulting in a 16 year long spending spree, tax increases, nationalization of business and expansion of the welfare state. This promoted high inflation during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Sound familiar?

The policies of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were embraced by Brian Mulroney’s cuts in income tax along with the Canadian central banks goal of price stability which reduced inflation and has kept it low ever since. The Thatcher privatization revolution was followed in Canada. In the late 80’s and early 90’s the government privatized about 2 dozen “crown corporations” including Air Canada, Petro-Canada, the Canadian National Railway and even their air traffic control system. This kept spending growth to about 2 percent for the next three years. These cuts resulted in federal spending as a share of GDP to plunge from 22 percent in 1995 to 17% by 2000. By 2006 it dropped to 15 percent, the lowest since the 1940’s.

This contrasts the fall of federal spending in Canada since the 1990’s with the increase of federal spending in the U.S. in recent years. Spending spiked in both countries due to recessionary forces but while our spending remains elevated, Canadian spending is now back down to 15.9 percent of GDP and still dropping.

Hmmmm, seems like those nasty Reagan/Thatcher fiscal moves are what actually fixed Canada’s economy.

So, that brings me to the second question for you. You claim that millions were fleeing to the safe havens of Canada during the 1980’s and 2000’s.

That’s odd because according to this chart during the 1980’s there were only about 800,000 people that immigrated to Canada in total.
