Obama takes ceremonial oath, tells nation 'our journey is not complete'

President Barack Obama is sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts as First lady Michelle Obama and daughters, Sasha Obama and Malia Obama look on during the public ceremonial inauguration on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 21, 2013.

Updated 4:33 p.m. — President Barack Obama issued a call to unity in his second inaugural address, urging the nation to move past the divisions that marked the last four years in politics and complete the work of living up to America's founding principles.

The president, in a speech that blended together post-partisan rhetoric and policy declarations, highlighted the progress made during his first term to end foreign wars and turn around the economy.

But Obama said that there was much unfinished work ahead, and he used Monday's speech to urge political leaders to finally rise above bitter squabbling — a recurring theme of his first term, and a mark of how difficult it has been for Obama to live up to his 2008 vow to change Washington's business as usual.

"Our journey is not complete," Obama said during one refrain in his speech.

Hundreds of thousands gathered on the National Mall for Barack Obama's second inauguration, a crowning moment after what had been a bruising campaign. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

"We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate," Obama said. "We must act, knowing that our work will be imperfect.  We must act, knowing that today’s victories will be only partial, and that it will be up to those who stand here in four years, and forty years, and four hundred years hence to advance the timeless spirit once conferred to us in a spare Philadelphia hall."

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts and Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, respectively, shortly before noon; Monday's oath of office was ceremonial, following their formal, constitutionally-prescribed swearing-in on Sunday.

Monday's ceremonies coincided with the federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Obama nodded to the slain civil rights leader during his speech, and the nation's first African-American president used one of King's Bibles during today's inauguration.

The president's speech, though, strode between acknowledging the accomplishments of his first term and the new priorities for his second. The president begins his new term this week intent upon pursuing an ambitious agenda following his decisive re-election victory last November over Republican opponent Mitt Romney.

Rebuilding the economy, strengthening entitlement programs for future generations and addressing the threat of climate change were among the initiatives upon which the president touched during his speech. Obama nodded toward other priorities, that were set to define his next four years in office: equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans, immigration reform that offers undocumented residents a pathway to citizenship and new rules to curb gun violence.

But as political leaders from both parties looked on from the inaugural platform, Obama avoided much of the hard-charging rhetoric of last year's campaign.

Romney, the erstwhile GOP nominee, spent Inauguration Day at his home in La Jolla, Calif., and a former aide told NBC News it was unlikely that the former Massachusetts governor would watch today's festivities.

NBC's Chuck Todd and "Meet the Press" moderator David Gregory examine the goals outlined in Barack Obama's second inauguration speech. Obama defended Medicare and Social Security and wants to tackle gun violence and immigration while also advancing gay rights. But in March, Congress will debate how to fund the government – and if they can't come to an agreement about the budget impasse, Obama's other goals will be that much more difficult.

Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate last fall, said today was not a day to emphasize partisan divisions.

"But today, we put those disagreements aside," Ryan said in a statement. "Today, we remember what we share in common."

To be sure, a variety of bruising political battles between Obama and Congress — in particular, a House of Representatives controlled by Republicans — loomed on the horizon. On Wednesday, Republicans said, they would vote on a measure to extend the nation's debt limit by a few months.

Earlier in the day, Obama and the first family attended a service at St. John's Episcopal Church — the "Church of the Presidents," as it is sometimes known — just two blocks from the White House.

There, Dr. Luis Leon, the rector of the church, led a series of "prayers for the nation," Washington Cardinal Donald Weurl led a Gospel reading, and an Alexandria, Va., rabbi offered a final blessing. Biden and his wife also attended the service.

Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were among the dignitaries in attendance during the oath-of-office ceremonies during late Monday morning. Celebrities including musician Jay-Z and actress Eva Longoria joined government officials on the inaugural platform, and attendees were treated to performances by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor.

Obama retreated to a traditional luncheon on Capitol Hill following the inaugural ceremonies before participating in the parade down Washington's Pennsylvania Avenue.

"I recognize that democracy is not always easy, and I recognize there are profound differences in this room," Obama said in a toast before a bipartisan group of lawmakers, "but I just want to say thank you for your service and I want to thank your families for their service, because regardless of our political persuasions and perspectives, I know that all of us serve because we believe that we can make America for future generations."

Afterward, the president and first lady entered the motorcade from the Capitol and back to the White House, leaving the presidential motorcade at moments to walk for a portion of the trip.

The president and first lady will make their way to glitzy, black-tie inaugural balls later this evening before wrapping the whirlwind day of festivities.

NBC's Peter Alexander contributed to this report.

Let's celebrate that we did it.

We elected a leader in President Obama who cares about us very deeply.

Someone who wants to lift up up all our families and continues the work of putting our economy on a firm foundation, now and for the future.

I think the ceremony of swearing in an elected president is necessary for all to witness. To declare that all are happy about it is another matter. Almost half of this country is not being represented. The middle class has carried this country on it's back for many many years. To witness the damage and demands this president and the democrats have forced upon them, the excessive spending and lack of leadership and divisiveness.....I watch today's inauguration with the same hope Martin Luther King Jr had. True hope where we can all come together as a country for the good of all those who are Americans. I hope President Obama stops and listens to the words of the oath he has taken. They were meant to be honored. Good luck sir, please remember you represent the whole country, not just the half you prefer.

As a white male small business owner who has worked hard to earn the success and wealth I have, I could not disagree with your statement. This President has shown he does not care about me, or those like me (white, male, sucessful, wealthy, hard working, etc).

Cut I can see how someone who collects a check every week from the Government and thinks others should pay more in order for you to get more, would think that he does. Remember, the more you depend on him, the more support you'll give him. He knows how to play the fools, and you are a fool

A Washington Post-ABC News poll published last week showed that even Republicans have noted a difference. Sixty-one percent of respondents called Obama a "strong leader," up 10 points from a year ago. The rise included a 17-point increase in Republican support for that characterization.

And to Millerz more people voted against Bush the first time than voted for him, so a majority of people were not represented, anmd if the Republican fascists have their way and split up the electoral votes in Ohio, PA, Vitginia, Wisconsin and Michigan instead of being winner take all, their gerry mandered districts would have elected Romney this time and 51% of the country voted for Obama. But you would be screaming that the rest of us have to accept Romney and not threaten to secced or revolt and take up arms against republicans.

What to expect from President Obama in his 2nd term?

Senior administration officials and others close to Obama say they have learned lessons from the first term, namely about the need to better convince Americans of the need for specific change, whether it is gun control or immigration revisions that top his near-term agenda. So more than just trying to cut deals with Congress, Obama has increasingly made his case to the American people first.

“You can’t exclusively play an inside game or an outside game — you have to do both,” said Robert Gibbs, a former Obama aide.

This is from an article in this morning's Washington Post.

Can you see what the other 2 Republicans did for you; namely Reagan?

Reagan started the meltdown of the financial sector, widening income inequality, the emergence of lockdown America, the obscene inflation of CEO compensation, the end of locally owned media, market crashes, blackouts, drug-company scandals, rampant greed and materialism .

What about GW Bush? GW Bush intentionally hid from the budget $1.6 trillion related to costs of the Iraq/Afghanistan Wars. These were costs that President Obama allowed to be calculated when he assumed office.
President Bush was able to manipulate funding for the Iraq/Afghanistan wars using special emergency authorization bills. He did this because, as you recall, the Democrats were attempting to defund the war legislatively.

The overall point is simple: Obama, as president, authorized not one cent of that $1.6 trillion to be spent.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/obama-spending-binge-never-happened-2012-05-22?pagenumber=1

Note that Obama could have continued to hide the bill as Bush did, passing it along to his successor.

So many of us are running on emotion and on the ignorance of previous generations. It breaks the heart. I am also a businessman who has built everything I have from the ground up. My choice. In this country, we have those options and the freedom to pursue them. There is no guarantee of anything... not even another 10 minutes alive. Live your life, people and stop giving credit to or blaming our representatives. We are the people. The only significant change will always come from us, not from legislation.

I am also a veteran of 13 years active duty in the Marine Corps. Also my choice to serve and to protect our way of life. I didn't determine how that was to be done... and we, the people don't determine what happens on capital hill and in the press because we don't hold our local representatives' collective feet to the fire in how they vote for us. Only about 6% of all Americans even show up to vote at our local elections that determine HOW WE LIVE in our communities. The only choice we all have is how we react to what "the puppet theatre" puts on the tube and in our heads. Settle down and just get to work. You'll feel better.

That said... I have put myself in harm's way for this country and I think I have a say... all you haters can shut it. He's our President. While I would die in defense of your ignorant, bigoted viewpoint of ALL of us ( the First Amendment), I also think you and people like you are the bane of our existance and are the only reason we are still stuck in 1865.

Jack Kennedy said "ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

With Obama, it has changed to "Elect me, and the government will give you lots of free stuff, and ask nothing in return".

An estimated 80% (13 million) of the 17 million people new people getting welfare since 2008 voted for Obama after his campaign started implying that "If you vote for Romney, those greedy rich Republicans will take away your Food Stamps". Obama won by less than 5 million votes.

And we won't mention the GREED of the current generation that is 'hocking our childrens' future' to avoid having to pay for the current spending largesse.

That $10+ Trillion that Obama projects that he will add to the National Debt under his 'leadership' will devastate their future when the Interest expense alone on it requires huge tax increases - just to pay the Chinese and Japanese their debt payments.

I hope the next 4 years sees Obama feel free to move a bit to the left. Eveytime he signed the parts of the Patriot Act that came up for renewal, he justified the atrocities of Bush/Cheney. It was a shame to see actions justified by his supporters move further and further to the right, whether it be drone warfare or his embracing of the 1989 Heritage Foundations alternative to single-payer. Maybe he simply held his Leftist tendencies at bay until he got a second term. I truly hope that is the case.

Look, this is really simple.

If we want to have all of these 'free' services from the government, then PAY FOR IT.

We are currently spending about $3.8 Trillion per year, and we are taking in about $2.7 Trillion per year, which leaves a Deficit of about $1.1 Trillion per year. If we want to keep spending at that level - THEN PAY FOR IT, and then the real cost of government will not be hidden with borrowed money - sending the bill to our children and grandchildren. It's GROSSLY UNFAIR to hide the real cost of current spending with 'Borrowed Money'. It doesn't work with our personal finances, and it doesn't work with the government (just ask Greece).

It will cost the average family of 4 about $14,000 per year in new taxes ($1,165 per month) to finance the current extra spending, but hey - if that's what you want, THEN PAY FOR IT.

What the ridiculous, often hateful, words you post do, however, is to continue reminding the rest of the country why the conservatives have become a party marginalized, not by liberals, but by their own narrow minded actions, their hate, their bigotry and their own words of derision. Sooner or later, the right wing hate spewers will ugly themselves to death; judging from some of them, that's already happened.

So, you Libbies have a problem with big business?

The same big business that you support unions to control? The same unions that demand overpriced wages, benefits and legacy costs that small business can’t compete against and subsequently have to shut down or be victims of hostile takeovers?

Ozzie: I think we all would like a bit less government, starting with getting to $%^&* out of our bedrooms and our doctors' offices. If you think forcing, FORCING, a woman who has made a totally legal choice to have a transvaginal ultrasound (as has Virginia in recent days ) is less government, then I think you need to sue the school district you attended, because they didn't teach you very well.

Forcing women to have a transvaginal ultrasound is the action of a dictatorship, not a free people, and is the epitome of government intrusion. And in Virginia, of all places, the cradle of democracy!

So I'll take the level of government we have, that one that ensures there are not rat parts in my sausage; that food is prepared in sanitary conditions; that levels the playing field for all citizens (well, the Republicans kinda have reduced that one with their "trickle up" economics from which we still suffer); that planes do not fly into one another; that sensible traffic laws exist on the ground; that saves and leverages my money contributed to Social Security, and Medicare, so they are there now that I need them; and that keeps the air from being so polluted that I can't breathe (as opposed to China, where you can't see across the street because of the pollution); that funds the Coast Guard for safety on the water; that funds the military (to excess, but I'm not going into all the wasteful spending that Republicans insist on so they can get rich) in order to defend us; that funds the State Depoartment so that we can try diplomacy before shooting the he!! out of some small country; that fund the Department of Agriculture so we can be fed; I could do on, but you get the idea (perhaps).

Go live in your fantasy world, Ozzie, and take your guns with you. Good riddance. The rest of us are willing to work together to make it work for ALL of us, not just the privileged few, to whom you seem to think you belong. As they say, "If you aren't part of the solution, then you're part of the problem."

President Obama got 51.1% of the vote. Romney got 47.2% (ironically, given the contempt for 47% of the American people he expressed when he thought only his fellow fact cat corporate welfare recipients were listening).

Ah, Jim, just couldn't miss the chance to sneak in a bit of racism under the guise of attempting wit could you? But i'm sure you'll try to deny it by saying you were referring to them all being unemployed and not because the majority of the crowd were black.

    Racism?

    Where did I mention race?

You sneaky little limp-wristed Libbie, you think I implied that they were all black didn't you? It's always amusing to read your Liberal/Progressive blatherings about your alleged "rainbow" mentality but in reality you only see things in black and white.

As my post is obviously above your ability to grasp its meaning, lemme 'splain it to you.

You see, I was commenting on the fact that they were most likely predominantly Liberals/Progressives. We all know your record as far as gainful employment is concerned, don't we Chrissy? Especially when you can just skip out to go to an inauguration to show your "patriotism", right? I'm surprised your EBT cards work for bus fare all the way from Yucaipa to D.C.

I'm sure you're well versed in racism aren't you Chrissy? Does Yucaipa have more than 1.5% blacks in your demographic yet? You're just another Liberal/Progressive wannabe who projects your racism on everyone else. Just like you voted for Barrack Hussein the first time to pretend you're not a racist you further confounded the situation by proving your ignorance by voting for him again.

It must be so difficult hiding your hypoChrissy, isn't it Chrissy?

Now go back to albino Yucaipa and stop bothering the adults, we'll call you up from the basement when we need another good laugh.

Jack Kennedy said "ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

With Obama, it has changed to "Elect me, and the government will give you lots of free stuff, and ask nothing in return".

Odd. I didn't hear President Obama say anything like that in his inaugural address. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. Or maybe you're just a lying deranged jerk. Have fun stewing in your seething hatred for four years. Cheers.

It feels good to have a strong leader like President Obama in office. I never cease to be amazed at the grace and dignity he shows in the face of such hate and criticism from the GOP and Tea Party.

Congratulations and well done, Mr. President. I only wish we could elect you for a third term.

(And btw, I noticed that Eric Cantor showed up for the Inauguration this time. Four years ago on Inauguration Day he skipped out because he was behind closed doors in a secret meeting with Newt Gingrich, Paul Ryan, and others from the GOP mafia planning on how to make sure the new President only served one term. LOL! Guess that didn't work out as they planned.)

Actually, I would like to have the GOP's input and have the voices of Republican Americans represented in our nation's policy, but unfortunately, the Party of NO is unwilling to compromise on little if anything, and would rather see our country divided and at odds if it cannot have everything the GOP/Tea Party way.

Pigotry's quote "Senior administration officials and others close to Obama say they have learned lessons from the first term, namely about the need to better convince Americans of the need for specific change, whether it is gun control or immigration revisions that top his near-term agenda. So more than just trying to cut deals with Congress, Obama has increasingly made his case to the American people first"

So what, where the hell is the JOBS he talked about, but did nothing about even when he held both houses of Congress till 1 / 2010?, despite adding 6 trillion to our deficit. Obama quote 2007 "if elected I will cut the deficit in half", well his nose is now a pole vault pole. Like Bob Woodward said, he doesn't know how to govern, all talking points, no ability to shape a damn thing. This guy is an introvert, a supposedly smart nerd, nothing more than a man who talks a big game, but produces squat. He is a total letdown, and he is not as popular as you people think, travel overseas for a few months and take it all in, they hate Obama overseas. He has pissed off everyone in Europe big time. The day after the election, Steven Colbert in his guise as a blowhard wingnut pundit, slouched in his chair in a big fuzzy bathrobe eating junk food snacks and not saying a word until a Comedy Central lawyer showed up to warn him that poor Steven was still contractually obligated to do the Colbert Show, even though he'd lost his will to live. I wonder how many REAL wingnuts will be sitting in their own fuzzy bathrobes for the next four years, bestirring themselves occasionally only to pound on their keyboards to spew their impotent rage into cyberspace against the imaginary Barack Obama that exists only in their fevered brains. Oh HAPPY DAY.

I will admit, President Obama made one critical mistake in his first term; he believed the party of "No", the Republicans, the GOP, would actually care more about, the American people, than their greedy, selfish agenda, to make him a "one term president. And that is the ONLY goal, the Republicans had in mind.

President Obama will turn this country around because his plans have been given the go-ahead, by the majority of Americans. He was elected President of the United States even though, the Republicans had more money, told more lies, and wasted his time on juvenile antics. Republicans do not want to admit, President Obama, won the election because we believe in him.

So, get ready, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, you are the ones, who will be "one last term politicians." Not because of wealthy, powerful white guys, who want, to buy you another term but, you will be ousted, by middle class Americans, who know were your loyalties lie. You are narrow minded gun toting, rich people, who have never worked a day, in their lives. The next election, will be about cleaning house and ridding our Congress, of professional thieves, who may wear suits but actually, feel more comfortable in a white hood and carry a torch and gun.

Thank God for President and Mrs. Obama

Thank God for Vice President and Mrs. Biden.

Mostly, thank God for those of us, who voted for the future of our country.

Congratulations. Obama has taken the Constitution and ripped into strips to use in the White House bathroom and the U.S. is fundamentally changing away from what the founding fathers had created to a European type economy that is destined to fail.

I am glad I am at the end of my working lifespan. I was going to work another 10 years before I retired but under the Obama economy it doesn't do any good to try and earn more money - I won't be able to keep it anyway.

But what I am sad about is my children will not have the same opportunities I have had. For the first time in United States history our children will have a lower standard of living than their parents had. Sad. Very sad.

The rest of America will stay and fight. It's time to let O'Bama know very abruptly that if he continues with his Socialist Agenda of Higher Taxes, Larger Debt and increase on Entitlements and intrusion of the Federal Government, he WILL be met with resistance. He has started a Revolution and now it the time to arm and let O'Bama know his agenda will not be supported by those that pay the taxes that makes his Entitlements possible. Listening to the speeches today, gives me great hope for the future.

And I absolutely agree that the President needs to make his case to the people more, and ask for their support against these special interest groups.. Those groups have stonewalled change for decades. People want progress on these issues, and they will have your back when you ask for it. They just need you to lead, and tell them how they can help. The gun control issue is a perfect example. Groups are forming all over to stand against the NRA lobby, because you asked them to have your back. And they do. Never forget, the majority voted for you.

As for the Republicans. You are where you are now, because you have NOT had anyones back, except your own. And Romneys 47% comment is a perfect example of that. People finally see.. And they dont like what they found. The comments on this forum coming from Republicans, shows the general contempt your party and its leaders have for everyone else. Despite all that, this president is here to represent everyone, even though you really deserve nothing.

This is a sad, sad day for our once great nation. American will never fulfill its promise of greatness with this quick-talking-used-car-salesman at the helm.

There were two Al Qaeda attacks on US nationals overseas in the last four (4) months. In the past, that kind of activity was a prelude to further deadly attacks against Americans offshore, and ultimately right here in our own back yard.

But, Obozo denied knowing the Benghazi tragedy was an Al Qaeda attack for almost two weeks (He didn't call it "AN act of terrorism," the day after it happened, either. That was just another media supported LIE.) I'm anxious to see what he does in the wake of this latest incident in Algiers. He needs to "recognize" and act before Al Qaeda rejuvenates itself, and hits us again.

But, I have to say this before I finish this post. I've never seen worse economic numbers turned in by a first term President, who then went on to be re-elected. The media continues to give Obozo favorable coverage in each situation. Even when he is dead-bolts wrong. I have never seen it do that for ANY President, whether they were Democratic or Republican. That's very, very dangerous, and we, the American public, need to keep an eye on this administration because the mainstream media refuses to do its job, and refuses to tell the truth.

    Beverly in Chicago

Reagan started the meltdown of the financial sector, widening income inequality, the emergence of lockdown America, the obscene inflation of CEO compensation, the end of locally owned media, market crashes, blackouts, drug-company scandals, rampant greed and materialism .

Hmmm, really? Reagan? Are you sure, or is that what Barrack Hussein, Debbie Whatsername Slutz or David Axelhead tells you Libbies to say?

I thought the FSLIC collapse was already starting from policies dating back to the 30’s. You remember the 30’s, right? The Depression, when FDR did everything wrong that you could possibly do to prolong an 18 month, to at most a 24 month, recession into a decade long Depression.

You know, things like extending federal deposit insurance to S&L’s, borrowing short to sell long, Regulation Q, interest rate restrictions, the feds ban on adjustable rate mortgages, restrictions on setting up branches, the dual chartering system, the secondary mortgage market agencies set up by Fannie and Freddie? You know, those little things that Jimmy Carter ignored. You remember, when Carter confessed he thought that stagflation was incapable of being fixed, until Reagan came along and did just that.

Remember, Reagan never controlled the House in his 8 years, it was Democrats that created all those systemic defects in the fiscal policies then, led by the most profligate spender in congressional history, Tip O’Neill. Just research TEFRA to see what Reagan had to deal with especially after what he “inherited” from Jimmy “Peanut Boy” Carter.

Income inequality and CEO wage inflation all began in the early 1990’s and skyrocketed by 2000. Where was your outrage then? Why weren’t you screaming at your boy-toy Billy Blue-Dress for allowing all those market distortions?

Of course you Libbies always forget about that little decade that Billy “BJ” Clinton ruled over don’t you? The missed opportunity to regulate derivatives by Brooksley Born in 1998. The skyrocketing of real after-tax income by the rich began in 1993 at 150 times the average and peaked to nearly 300 in 2000. The CEO-to-worker compensation ratio was about 50:1 in 1990 and hit historic highs in 2000 at over 400:1.

So, where was all your screaming and whining back then? Many of us saw it as we were investing in that irrational exuberance that consumed the late 90’s. As we day-traded that period we saw the wealth disparity but the Left was conspicuously quiet.

It’s time to park your Liberal/Progressive hypocrisy, we real Americans aren’t buying any of it.

Greed isn’t someone wanting to keep more of what they earn, its people demanding a greater share of money that someone else has earned.

I'll support anyone who will try to improve my standard of living ...without destroying someone else’s!

The same Democrat Party that won't to this day discuss any type of compromise?

It was Republican Speaker of the House who refused to say he would compromised when asked during an interview shortly after the 2010 election. It was Barack Obama who adopted the Republican proposals for universal health insurance now denounced as socialist tyranny by the same people who proposed it in the first place. And if Republicans really want compromise, maybe they should start by calling the opposing party by its real name: the Democratic Party, not the "Democrat" Party.

And those 59 districts in Philly where Obama got 100% of the votes without a single vote for Romney. Or Wood County Ohio, where 106,258 voted in a county with only 98,213 eligible voters. Oh! Uh,and St. Lucie County Fl. there were 175,574 registered voters but 247,713 votes were cast. In Ohio County, Obama won by 108% of the total number of eligible voters. Hmmmm. 108% of the vote. Math don't seem right. A polling location in St. Lucie County Fl. had a 158% voter turnout! It goes on and on. If not for this fraud, Romney would have, should have, been our president. But hey, this is Chicago style politics. I could expect nothing less from this crew of crooks....

"our journey is not complete" - B.Obama

What he failed to say out loud.....

"This nation is still too strong, there are too many guns in the hands of the individual, there are still too many voices that object, there are still too many that hold to their religion, there are still too many that believe the Constitution means exactly what is written, there are still too many that are willing to fight for freedom...... regardless of the enemy.... whether it be foreign or domestic.... there are still too many that believe in right and are willing to die for their beliefs.......... as long as there remains too many still left out there in this country, our take over will not be complete..... our vision to destroy the American way of life will not be complete..... "

Watch out for Barry.... his WORDS do not always MEAN what he SAYS..........

With the inauguration of this BLACK MAN, for the second time, there is now ample proof that the first four years were not an aberration, not a fluke, not the liberal white guilt taking care of itself.

All you race haters (particularly in the US Senate, Mr. Minority Leader) can now go back into your holes and hope that the not white people will just go away.

Well, the nation has changed, as it will continue to change.

    N. European whites no longer make up the majority of the country.

Within 30-50 years, they will be a distinct MINORITY.

Conservative white males (the majority within the Republican party) already are a minority in the country and dwindling every day. The 2010 win was the last desperate gasp of a dying breed. The country has moved on from the politics of hate which formed the modern GOP, and from which the final mid-term win of the GOP was formed.

Pomp and circumstance for his failed policies and leadership! Only in America! I wonder what the total cost that this inauguration will set the American people back! Choking deficit and millions out of work and we have to spend our hard earned taxes by celebrating this man and his communist agenda! Not me no way! Worst presdent ever and history will dictate the facts!

So pomp and circumstance are okay for a president that started two unnecessary wars but not for one who ends them? Pomp and circumstance should never be allowed for an inaugeration because YOU believe the President should be at his desk and never leave the White House for any reason, right? How much did it cost to inaugerate and entertain Reagan or the Bushs and how much would have been spent had Romney been elected? Would you have objected to that? If not, why not? Isn't sause for the goose good enough for the gander?

After the Fascist wannabe George W. Bush spent so much on the credit card for his two unnecessary little wars it wouldn't have mattered who was president after him the debt would have had to climb or we would have a depression that would make the 1930s look like a small recession.

What criteria do you use to determine who is the best or worst president in history? Just because YOU say so? Just because YOU don't agree with him? Who the ^)*^% are you to make such judgements anyway? Have you been a recognized expert on Presidential history and have written several books on the subject or are you just blowing smoke out your arse?

Before the Inaugural luncheon today when all the dignitaries and politicians were coming in (both Dem's and GOP), I switched over to see how Fox News was handling the headlines. The only thing the Fox reporters could talk about was how much the FEAST was costing, and how it certainly was an expensive FEAST the Democrats were having, and how Abraham Lincoln never had such an expensive FEAST for his Inauguration.

    LOL

Of course, Fox didn't mention the fact that the President reduced the number of Inaugural Celebration Balls held from 10 to only 2. I imagine that saved tens of thousands of dollars, but of course, nobody at GOP/FOX news is going to admit that.

Ya think Romney would have served dogs and chips if he and his rich corporate buddies had won or would he have done it up big time?

I always taught my own kids to be gracious when they lost a game, and even when they were disappointed to lose, they said "good game" anyway.

The GOP and Tea Party are the most immature, and least gracious, sore losers, and a terrible example to the youngsters they are raising. Talk about sour grapes.

It wasn't close at all. Obama got more votes than Bush did in 2004, he beat his opponent by a wider margin than Bush beat Kerry. If there was any truth to your claims of voter fraud that you got from wingnut web sites, the Republican Party would certainly have said something about it. You're claim that Obama somehow "stole" the five million votes he won by just suggests that you're wearing your tinfoil hat too tight.

We can certainly be eternally grateful that we didn't have to witness Romney baby stepping down the street and Queen Ann, with her smug smile, waving to the little people.

Now that's ironic. Lincoln was viciously attacked because his wife spent too much money on clothes and furniture while he was president. If Fox News had been around back then the president they would have supported would have been Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy.

Democrats can twist and turn "facts" all you want to but one thing is clear: LESS people are working today than when Obama took office 4 years ago and FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY the median income declined from the time period of taking office and the end of the first term.

Obama has accomplished one thing for sure: The president responsible for the worst economic recovery in U.S. history.

And Obama's focus is gay rights, gun control, and immigration? I have an idea: why doesn't Obama focus on the economy and jobs "like a laser" like he has promised for the last four years?

You know what is worse than a pathetic Obama presidency? That there are enough ignorant and uninformed voters to reelect this fool.

Obama first term check list (the real one, the one that gets the $40K a plate fundraising dinner bucks) :

    1. Continue and expand massive bail-out of bankers (started by Bush) so they won't suffer any business losses and also so the devastating failure of Neo-liberal ("Free-market") economic policies will not be exposed (or noticed by public) and have to be abandoned.

    2. Make sure the bankers on Wall Street don’t do any jail time or suffer financially for swindling the U.S and world economy off of a cliff in 2008. √

    3. Make sure bank officials don't go to jail or suffer significant financial loss for stealing millions of people's homes by the use of fraudulent signatures and foreclosure documents. Immunize banks against prosecution. √

    4. Make sure banks (and Obama's friend, Robert Wolf of UBS) don't suffer any criminal or financial problems from the Libor rate fixing scam. Immunize banks from prosecution.√

    4. Make sure Bush administration officials don’t do any jail time or suffer any consequences for criminal activity related to invading Iraq/Afghanistan, torture/abuse of prisoners, and domestic surveillance. Immunize officials against any future prosecution. √

    5. Do as little as possible about record high unemployment and foreclosures. √

    6. Defend and expand Bush era attacks on civil liberties and continue process started by preceding administration to lay the "legal" foundations for corporate police state. √

    7. Play golf. √

Obama, second term "to do" list (Probably much the same as Romney's would have been but using different tactics):

    1. Launch attack against poor and middle class standard of living using "austerity" with the deficit as a rationale. Use the manufactured "crisis" of the "Fiscal Cliff" (created by both parties) to scare the public into accepting big cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. As much as possible cut those programs.

    2. After sanctions have devastated Iran's economy (much like Iraq during the 1990's) attack Iran militarily with Israel to keep Israel dominant in the region and allow Israel to finish destroying any prospect of a viable Palestinian state. Also to score "hits" against future economic rivals, Russia and China, who have major business/geo political interests in Iran.

    3. Increase aid to extremist Islamic opposition in Syria and launch or join NATO in "libya style" attack on Syria. (Also to score "hits" against future economic rivals, Russia and China, who have major business/Geopolitical interests in Syria)

    3. Continue transfer of wealth from middle class to rich via: Tax cuts on businesses, business "incentives" and rebates, allowing corporations to use high unemployment to drive down wages and benefits, cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, letting states go broke so they have to cut services and finance existing services (education etc) with bonds provided by wealthy investors, etc.

    4. Use policies listed in 1 & 3 above to continue process of turning U.S. into low wage export platform.

    5. Continue cutting back or gutting civil liberties and laying "legal" foundation for some form of corporate police state.

(Justice Louis Brandeis: "We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.")

    6. Play golf.

Thousands turned out for Obama, too bad he hasn't figured out that his presidency is about the American people and not himself. Unfortunately most of what Obama said needed to be fixed by Washington are problems he helped to create. Everyone should expect a more expensive nation, from taxes to products in our daily lives, and above all else nothing that will not collapse on Obama's watch will even be addressed. Sad day for the nation, and even sadder for future generations that will be forced to pick up the tab.

My wife and I have both worked hard for the past twenty years to better our lives and children, endless hours and commitment only to see every gain diminish consistently in the past four years..

The first two years, of president Obama's term, he got his hands stung many times, buy trying to extend it to the the Republican beehive of NO! This was mush to the chagrin of his supporters and advisers, who tried to tell him, Republicans do not comprise, they just take. I will take one President Obama, over a million of any Republican, any day of the week. He has done more to regain the respect of foriegn countries and the citizens of the United States. I hope he knows how many of us, have his back. He has my complete admiration for bringing us forward and yes, lading through the undone parts, of our future.

As for Mrs, Obama, the fact that she got stuck next to John Boehner and was still able to eat, only proves Phenergan works! President Obama and Michell, and their daughters, make me realize whzt one can do, if they try.

I am willing to bet, most of the anti-Obama posts, written here, are from people who would not share a morsel of food or, a thread of clothing, to help another human being. Not unless, they looked a certain way and have the same lack of ethics.

Here is the sad part. I know somewhere, among the Republican politicians, there is a decent, caring and hard working person, who deserves all of our respect and admiration but will never receive it because that person it bundled in with the Party of Hate and despair.

I personally, do not see Michelle Obama rolling her eyes at John Boehner. She most likely was choking on the scent of his alcohol laced cologne. Or maybe it's his breath. Hiccup!

The right wing has to work hard to declare this day a failure... While we celebrate the re-election of a President that history will certainly regard very well, they just show up for the cheese and whine.

He has given all true Americans at least a little more reason for hope in a very dark period of American history... He has given 'merkins at least a little more reason to hope if they had the attention span to do it... And if allowed to, he might even give the Aristocratic sect a fighting chance when they get to the pearly gates. You know, that place where greasing palms, stacking decks, usurping others and generally riding everyone elses backs for a living doesn't carry the "right" kind of weight.

Surely they believe in that and aren't just constantly saying so to further enrich themselves by fooling the masses!

And starting today, you are going to get the economy fixed with realistic fixes right? Not more of this futuristic yet to be invented theories and ideas? You are going to go with what works right?

IT IS THE ECONOMY STUPID!! EVERYTHING ELSE CAN TAKE A BACKSEAT FOR THE TIME BEING!!!

People Not Working = Anarchy and Chaos!

People Working = More Tax Revenues and Prosperity for all!

            If you really care about putting people to work and fixing the economy then for the next four years;

Give Tax breaks to ALL companies (not just the chosen few small green companies) that increase their workforce with full time jobs with benefits.

Do not implement any new regulations (like last term) that will hamper job creation.

Quit thinking that Government jobs will pay down the deficit, they only increase it.

And constantly ask yourself this question - Have I done anything to fix the ECONOMY today and put people back to work.

And finally, quit saying that all this is Bush's fault, take some responsibility and get to work fixing it.

Here are some numbers for you Steamie2010.

Most everyone suspected fraud, but these numbers prove it and our government and media refuse to do anything about it.

As each state reported their final election details, the evidence of voter fraud is astounding. Massive voter fraud has been reported in areas of OH and FL, with PA, WI and VA, all are deploying personnel to investigate election results.

Here are just a few examples of what has surfaced with much more to come.

            * In 59 voting districts in the Philadelphia region,

Obama received 100% of the votes with not even a single vote recorded for

Romney. (A mathematical and statistical impossibility).

            * In 21 districts in Wood County Ohio,

Obama received 100% of the votes where GOP inspectors were illegally removed from their polling locations - and not one single vote was recorded for Romney.

            (Another statistical impossibility).

            * In Wood County Ohio, 106,258 voted in a county with only 98,213 eligible voters.

            *

In St. Lucie County, FL, there were 175,574 registered eligible voters but 247,713 votes were cast.

            * The National SEAL Museum, a polling location in St. Lucie County, FL had a 158% voter turnout.

            *

            Palm Beach County,

FL had a 141% voter turnout.

            * In Ohio County, Obama won by 108% of the total number of eligible voters.

NOTE: Obama won in every state that did not require a Photo ID and lost in every state that did require a Photo ID in order to vote.

            Imagine that!

Voice your opinions all you want. That's what the 1st Amendment is all about. There is a phrase, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it," commonly mis-attributed to Voltaire, but it has also been attributed to, among others, Edmund Burke, an 18th century Englishman. Regardless of who said it, the sentiment is there, and is widespread.

Democracy is great, and voicing one's opinion without fear of reprisal is one of the features of democracy. So go ahead and say any nutty thing you want. I have never complained about the many nutty statements I read on these posts, and I won't. Your right to free speech is my right to free speech as well. That is the essence of democracy. Thank the government for preserving that right, because, as President Obama said today, there are many things an individual cannot do alone; we must all work together. So how about we all tone it back a little bit, rely on facts, not emotion, and see how much we can accomplish when we respect one another, and not hate one another?

I don't see any more "ignorance and hatred" coming from them than I do from YOU. Pretty much every post you make is THICK with it. I usually advise people to not bitch about something if they are going to make a hypocrite out of themselves in the process.

The CBO came out last week and stated. The path the POTUS has us on will soon crush our dollar.

Debase the currency, disarm the population, then enslave them. I have seen that movie before.

Here is some facts for you fielden..

In other words the President won because the majority of Americans are idiots. Anyone who actually believed either of these men would follow through on their "plan" is brain-dead. I'd have to say doubly so for anyone who voted for Obama because of his "plan" since we can look at his first 4 years and quite clearly see that he didn't even pretend to follow the "plan" he laid out 4+ years ago.

Backcounty164, just because you do not like his accomplishments in healthcare, war, obl, how the feds handle student loans, and consumer protections doesn't mean he did not accomplish anything. And I am not saying these accomplishments were flawless but they would've all benefited from greater improvements had both sides compromised in a way that would have pushed these things to be better instead of just pure planned and orchestrated obstruction because the other side lost the election (or worst if suspicions are true that it was just because he's a black man who dared to become president). You are on the wrong side of history and the sooner you realize this the better we will all be for it! I take nothing from the fed or local govt because I am happily and gainfully employed. I am fortunate enough to live in a part of the country that is heavily unionized that does not give me the right to work for less. Which means those like my self that are not in a union can actually get paid a living wage because of the competition this environment creates. 4more yrs and then another 8 for Hillary!!!

The Obama Haters are really losing it today. Their party is imploding and they are reminded that they cant win an election.

They bitch about the cost of an inauguration but were ok with the cost of flying Bush onto a parade on an aircraft carrier declaring Mission Accomplished for an off-the books war that 10 years and a TRILLION + dollars later was brought to an honorable end by this President

In light of the Debt Cliff , Sandy, Newtown...America isn't cool with the haters anymore, Its time to get things done. Not throwing rocks at Obama from the bench as the GOP has done.

Its clear to me now that their racist comments and erstwhile insults and lies against the President on full display here just don't affect me anymore. Its just further evidence that the GOP is headed for extinction. I have made my share of reactionary and inflammatory posts myself, but its just wasting energy.

Faced with changing demographics and a younger generation that does not have the same vitriolic level of intolerance that the Tea Party has exhibited, the far right is scared . While I'm a Dem, Chris Christie strikes me of more what we are missing in American politics; a substantial contingent of moderate GOP congresspersons and senators that can forge true compromise. A true middle where the fringe minorities of left and right cannot become a roadblock to getting things done

But the intolerance and hate, well, just let it remind us of what is wrong with our discourse and the refusal of some to accept that America is changing and evolving as it always has. In this time of recovery and tough choices ahead, the voices of the angry and the hateful are now only static against the clarity of a new future ahead.

              Ignore the static

              BackCountry

              • For the 2013–2017 period, before accounting for the macroeconomic effects, CBO estimates that the President’s proposals would add a total of $1.5 trillion to deficits, resulting in a cumulative deficit of $3.2 trillion over that period (see Table 1). The economic feedback from the President’s proposals would yield projected deficits totaling between $3.0 trillion and $3.2 trillion over that period.
              • For the 2018–2022 period, before accounting for the macroeconomic effects, CBO estimates that the President’s proposals would add a total of $2.0 trillion to deficits, resulting in a cumulative deficit of $3.2 trillion over that period. The economic feedback from the President’s proposals would yield projected deficits totaling between $3.3 trillion and $3.6 trillion over that period.

That looks pretty static over the period. It's the cumulative that should be watched. We're going to have to spend more before we can spend less. We're still paying for your guy's wars, the money you pocketed with your unfunded tax cuts, and the sellout of Medicare to the drug companies orchestrated by the right as well as Bush's bank bailout. Yes, TARP was a Bushie program. "This president's spending" has to date, been a complete myth perpetrated by Faux News. But even that said, it looks pretty static for the next 8 years. If you want jobs, someone has to spend some money. Infrastructure looks good since those good Republican corporations (Koch Industries anyone) are just sitting on their mounds of cash. So no tears here. That's only for the doomsayers on the right.

What a great day. Obama back in. Hate to think of the alternative. We have serious problems.....but having a half black president shouldn't be one of them. The guy really cares about the country. The haters get the same air time. But, overseas people are amazed that we "walked the walk". He brought us back from the cliff. Dynamics could have produced soup lines again. People that quote deficit numbers G.W. vs. Obama don't include the two "off the books" wars G.W. started. Factor that in and Obama is a miser. You lost (big time) haters. Get over it.

I agree on both counts. It shouldn't be, if nobody cared about his skin color, whether they are black or white, maybe they would start paying attention to his actual "achievements" as President, and he wouldn't have been awarded a Nobel Prize without having done anything at all to deserve it.

And no I don't hate him, which doesn't mean that I agree with his politics, but I sure am tired of people playing the race card one way or the other. He's the President, period, his skin color shouldn't matter AT ALL, to anyone.

No, not really. The Great President.... hey, I still got that old free speech thing right? Or has it been yanked from me by the Great President already? I suppose you would agree with him that people should only allowed to speak freely about things that benefit his regime. I get that. No standing around a city park pooping all over the sidewalk, attacking businesses, raping women, stealing, causing violent unrest and flamed up by a bunch of left wing hired liberal extremist barbarians for me, that kind of free speech is only allowed if your last comment is "long live the King Ding Dong Obama!!". Na, I don't like the dude at all.

Whodidit... yep. Was watching this woman wearing a $2000 dress doing an interview about the all wonderful obama. She started talking about how he was perfect to manage the economic affairs of the country from his community organizing days. She also claimed to have worked doing great things as a communtiy organizer before switching to a love for Armani and Gucci it seems. The interviewer asked her what exactly a communtiy organizer did.... she stumbled around for a few seconds... the said "A community organizer is someone who gets people together to live better lives in poverty". Laughed my ass off. The liberal interviewer choked up and changed direction, and liberal expense account mouthpiece woman just stared blankly into no where unaware of what she had said. It was classic liberal brain freeze when caught up in reality. Still laughing thinking about it.

I just got chills, literally, when Myrlie Evers- started talking about our ancestors. It's as if something in my spirit went back to my ancestors who built of the White House .

The way Myrlie Evers talked made me realize the milestone we have overcome.

Slaves people built the White House.

right in front of where Barack Obama is going to take his oath of office used to be a tent city for slaves and workers?

I was so proud to see the camera flash on young Caucasian girl visibly shaking her head in agreement as if see too had gone through all the trials, tribulations, and pains slaves and Black people who suffered through Jim Crow. What a beautiful young lady. She brought tears to my eyes.

I know the road won't be easy. But, I also know President Obama will preserve because I can feel it in his heart. President Obama has gotten tired o the games the Republican played.

Jessie Jackson Jr may not be able to work in politics but once he is re-habbed there are so many other things he can do to help the community. I hope he gets well. How to suck in political pawns to stand in front of your failures? Flat economy and how to smash it when it tries to rebound on its own? The value of human life as determined through a government cost decision board? What? Leadership? Lead by example, if this is his example, people are nutty to follow.

And why don't you take a look back at the official economic statistics from when he took office. It may surprise you. Then look at the things that trampled the economy after he took office, the reasons why those things happened, and his failure even with an entire Congress behind him to take one single positive step to lessen the effect of democratic regulation on the economy.... oh no, wouldn't want to see the truth would you?

Here are some numbers for you.

And, again, you prove your existence is a waste. So sad for you. You have nothing to say but your continued rants and whines. Perfect little Republican - nothing but vitrol and hatred for the black man who is ten times the person you could ever hope to be!

Mr. Mudd - continue posting your lies. We all KNOW they are lies so they only make the poster look foolish!

My only mistake was, it was the GAO not the CBO saying Obama has us on a path that will crush the dollar. Everything else i said is the truth. Don't like it? Wait until this Marxist is finished. Debase the currency, disarm the population then enslave them. You ignorant people have no idea what's coming. Seeking do you actually think this empty suit can turn the economy around? We borrow 4 billion every day. My God didn't you people take any civics courses? I expect you have a low IQ. Wonder how taxpayers are going to shoulder paying for all those illegals living amongst us? Plus, we have their families coming over to join them. remember, we're reforming our immigration policies to include people who jump the fence illegally. I know, just raise taxes then they can have a carte blanche free ride on our dime. Spend! spend! spend! yee-haw!!

It is not a "statistical impossibility" that a candidate would get all votes, or not get any votes, in a "voting district." Clearly, the anonymous author of the screed you quoted has no understanding of statistics. And Obama won in four voter ID states.

                Nothing you quoted was accurate.

While I am not a fan of President Obama and his policies, I do appreciate this day for what it symbolizes...this is a uniquely American experience regardless of what you think about the man in office. The full pendulum rhetoric both pro and con for our leaders needs to be dialed back and this is an opportunity for Obama to fulfill the promise of "hope & change" that only he can fulfill. He has a chance to lead, I hope he choses to do so.

I read in this mornings newspaper that the working people are getting 2% less every week in their paychecks, because of Obuma's fiscal cliff fixing. Two percent may not seem like a lot of money, but when a person has a family and is making a little more than minimum wage, that's quite a bit to lose every week.

That is a good question, since Mormon's only believe in the Bible as far as it is translated correctly (code for we don't believe in the Bible - that book is for the other guys).

But honestly, given the business acuity of Romney, he would have chosen, "Who moved my Cheese?".

If Obama was a repub with such "voter fraud" going on, there would have been investigations and our jails and prisons would have been "over filled" because of it BUT because he is a "beloved" democrat........he is having his second "of many "terms". I don't think we have just 4 more years of this man.....I think him and Soros have figured out how to have him "destroy" the United States for ever!!!!

You and your partners in grime on this blog are just embarrassing yourselves with your hate and vulgarity toward our President. You really need to man up about losing the election and stop the static. Too many important decisions coming to solve real problems. America doesn't find the insults useful. Your hatred is not having any effect Mr Mudd. Obama is your President.

By stealing the election. Numbers don't lie.

Still very much astounded at Obama's rabid followers. He is destroying and dividing this country. Yet, you continue to praise him like he's accomplished some great feat. What, exactly? To put more in debt and in poverty? I guess that could be success for those who want the handouts. Very sad day for America.

Actually the phone deal started under Wilson for landlines in houses. But they decided under Clinton to start going with cell phones instead and the cell phones started going out in 2008. None of your tax dollars go to provide these phones. There is a surcharge collected by the telecomunications companies to reimburse them for their expenses to provide these phones. If you do not wish to support them you can drop your cell service, it is completely voluntary, just like th efee on your home phones and internet service. If you continue with your service know that you do this and pay this fee of your own free will so shut up and quit whining about it.

What's done is done. The first four years of this complete and utter failure passed quickly; therefore, the next will do the same. Obama is nothing more than a novelty act put in office by those who were told their entitlements would be taken away, those that believed his failures was everyone's fault by his, those that just wanted to be part of history, and those that just vote for a party regardless of how pathetic the person may be. It won't be 2013; but 2014 will be a nightmare for small business owners. I just read the newest set of rules, (they're still being written for Obamacare) the SHOP program is a joke and will cause many small business owners to drop many people from their medical plans by putting them on part-time.

Listening to the media I am confused as to whether this is an inauguration or a coronation.

For most of you....no fact, no evidence, no reading of history will ever matter. You will know what you did when you feel the boot on your neck, and not a moment before.

I regret that I ever put on a uniform to defend you.

anti means to be against something. Perhaps you are searching for ante ... but then include it as one or a hyphenated word. Forwards with your shallowness ... darkness is your path to follow.

More blacks kill each other on this day than any other. They're home all day anyway and when the silly MLK parades go by inevitably various thugs find other thugs they have a problem with and bullets start flying. Eight thugs shot in New Orleans already today.

Basically Obama won the 1st time because he was black. Many voted him in as a novelty act as they wanted to be part of history. During his first four years 21 million more have been put on the welfare rolls. Obama and the liberal biased media was successful in convincing people to hate anyone wealthy and anyone who has become successul. He's convinced people that by taxing just 2% of the population more and more will solve our problems. We've never been this divisive as a nation.

If Kerry or Gore would have been President over the past four years, liberals would have been looking for another candidate. It's odd, that because he's black he gets a complete pass. Blame everyone else, demonize successful citizens and get re-elected. You should be proud.

Sorry, but taxing just 2% of the population a little more will do NOTHING but score political brownie points. He can now say he stuck it to those horrible rich people. You do realize it took him becoming President to become a millionaire. And what's very odd and hypocritical, he's told you and brainwashed you into hating wealthy people, then appoints Kerry as SOS.

Kerry makes Romney look like a homeless person when it comes to wealth. But we were told to hate Romney because he was a smart wealth person. Kerry has many more offshore accounts than Romney. And here's the kicker. Kerry just had a $7.5 million dollar yacht built and he keeps it moored in Rhode Island because if he kept it in his home state he would have to pay a $500,000 luxury tax. If that were Romney you'd call him a tax cheat, but since he's a liberal you thinks it's okay. Party of the Hypocrites.

We pay for the flight and secret service for the First Family - just as we have for ALL first families. We pay nothing more for their vacations - the rest they pay for themselves. And they have still taken fewer vacations than the Bush family did during the same period of time.

Remember 4 years ago. Bush put us into two wars, ignored one to the point of disaster. Ran our debt up in order to give tax breaks to the super rich, or his base as he liked to refer to them at CPAC each year. Ran our economy into a depression. The entire banking system throughout the world was on the verge is collapse. The US manufacturing industry was also on the verge of collapse. What a mess. Now, four years later, President Obama has brought us back, ended both wars, readjusted the tax code so the wealthy can't exploit us, saved banking, saved wall street, saved the auto manufacturers and saved our economy. It costs a lot of money to pull this off but so be it, we were on the verge of total economic collapse like in 1930. Thank You Mr. President.

What readjustment of the tax code do you speak of?

Have you been asleep the past 2 months. Income taxes went up on everybody over $400,000.00 per year on 1/1/2013.

How is having the rich pay "a little bit more" have anything to do with exploiting us? How do they exploit us?

I am a CPA you moron. That is hardly a readjustment of the tax code. All they did was reinstate a previous tax and extend some of the other Bush-era cuts.

Do you know the difference between a readjustment (ala the Tax Reform Act of 1986) versus a patch?

Sounds like the end of a tax holiday, not a tax increase.

Sure do. My niece is a tax attorney I and a bankruptcy attorney and we deal with bankruptcy and taxes daily. Have you ever litigated tax issues in tax court or bankruptcy court or federal district court??? I didn't think so. The reinstatement of higher tax rates on the higher income tax payers is a major change in the tax laws. Sure there are thousands of other changes that can be made, both state and federal. Your CPA degree means nothing to me. I clean up CPA garbage daily.

It dosen't matter what you say or how you vote. This country has changed and will never return to the way this country should be. The constitution no longer matters to the powers up high...............

Most true Americans know we are still a great country and will continue to be and that our constitution is still strong! You've clearly bought into the FOX lies. Try to actually think for yourself - you'll feel better!

Seeking i suggest that you take your own advice!! I have never seen one deviation from you or the other two that seem to live on here (fiesty and piggy) .

I will say you are always consitatant with the party lines but always short on (true) fact. When the (truly) informed try to have a conversation all we get from you (if the conversation goes agaist obama) is raciest, raciest, you talk nonsense because i know what is right not you. This is why there is no truth here and our represenativies like Obama continune down there foolish path. I know he is a democrat and that is all you care about.

before you call me a raciest i will tell you i voted for Obama last time and because he FAILED to deliver a real economy (not because he is black) and we only look marginally better but the indicators along with the debt have put us in a very (potentially) dangerous position. And yes there were better ways to fix the economy. You should read, watch or listen to a different point of view you might actually learn somthing then be able to contribute some non partisin fact so we can find a real solution!

Untill then you are read for amusement only like fiesty and piggy~

you should really check your facts about who all voted for the war (democrats in congress) and the tax cuts (democrats in congress) who was in charge of the housing Fannie and freddie? liberal democrats barnie franks and chris dodd. Then after blackmailing the banks into making loans to anybody and calling bush a raciest for trying to stop them. The economy collapsed and franks and dodd gave themselves 10 million dollar bonus each! They were appointed by the democrats that controlled congress during bush last two years.
