With regards to the economy, a recent report (shared this morning on Morning Joe) reveals that Wall Street has had unprecedented recovery since 2008. The S&P standard is at a five year high, closing at 1,480, it's highest point since 2007. The NASDAQ and Dow Jones have also seen marked recovery. So people and business are making trillions on Wall Street; however, Main Street is still suffering in terms of the economy and unemployment. So the question becomes one of what has to happen to get business to balance dolling out trillions in bonus packages and also enhance investments in human capital and job creation. Just sayin'....

The problems you talk about spring from a hybrid of corporate capitalism and state socialism. Tax money is taken from the working class, redistributed through safety net programs, where the recipients then spend this money effectively redistributing it to the 1%. The net effect is to weaken the working class and build up the 1%. By exclusively attacking state socialism, you are ignoring half the problem. As an Anarcho-Socialist (ie Left Libertarian, Libertarian Socialist), I hold corporate capitalism and state socialism equally responsible. Remember, Marxism in it's purist sense is "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." Please be factual, President Obama took the oath of Office on January 20, 2009. Based on the BLS, the unemployment rate for january 2009 was 7.8%. At the end of the first month of President Obama's term, the unemployment rate was 8.3% which you could, fairly or unfairly, deem that rate to be his responsibility. Here is a reasonable comparison:

In the 10 months prior to Mr. Obama's Inauguration, unemployment went from 5.0% to 7.8% which is an annual growth rate of 4.55%. In the 10 months after Mr. Obama's Inauguration, unemployment went from 8.30% to 9.90% having peaked at 10.0% (according to BLS) which is a growth rate of 1.78%. Since that time, the unemployment rate has declined slowly over the last 4 years to 7.8% through December 2012. In April/May of 2009, an $800 billion stimulus began filtering through the economy and in October, unemployment peaked at 10%.

It can be said that TARP and stimulus combined put a floor under the free-falling economy but there was a great deal of damage done. President Obama could have lowered taxes to $0 for everyone and the damage was still done. The problem was that between the two wars, and heightened spending on health care programs, you could not lower taxes anymore than what was done (payroll taxes and continuation fo Bush era tax credits).

By my estimate, it appears about $4.8 trillion of the $6 trillion in debt during Mr. Obama's first 4 years are a direct result of his policies. The other $1.2 trillion supported 4 years of two war fronts, the expansion of the Medicare prescription plan and the Bush era tax cuts.

A rational person would recognize that the Federal government can do very little in 90 days so you could even argue that the unemployment rate was going to hit 9.0% before any policies could even take effect. But, that's not how the score card works for presidents. In the end, President Obama, in my estimation, spent about half of what President Bush did in his 8 years.
