Joe Biden was sworn in to a second term as the Vice President of the United States on Sunday morning, taking his oath from Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor -- the first Hispanic in American history to administer an oath of office.
Biden personally selected Sotomayor, who is also the fourth woman to administer an oath, to conduct the brief ceremony at the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
By law, the president and vice president must be sworn in on Jan. 20. Because that date falls on a Sunday this year, both men take their formal oaths today, but will hold the traditional longer public ceremony tomorrow.
Biden's swearing-in was originally scheduled to be held shortly before the president's, near noon Sunday. But Sotomayor's previous commitment to a book signing in New York City prompted officials to move the event earlier in the day.
"It's an incredible honor to have Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor swear me in," Biden said in a statement. "I believed strongly that she would make a great Justice, and it was one of the greatest pleasures of my career to be involved in her selection to the Court. From the first time I met her, I was impressed by Justice Sotomayor's commitment to justice and opportunity for all Americans, and she continues to exemplify those values today. Above all, I'm happy for the chance to be sworn in by a friend - and someone I know will continue to do great things."
After the short swearing-in, Biden again thanked Sotomayor personally, explaining to the small group of guests the reason for the early timing of the event.
Biden took the oath on a family Bible bearing a Celtic cross. It has been in the Biden family since 1893.
Cabinet members attending the ceremony included Attorney General Eric Holder and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. He was joined on stage by his family, including wife Dr. Jill Biden and his three children.

Speaking at the Iowa State Society inauguration ball, the Vice President said, "I'm proud to be President of the United States"
After some laughter and a nudge from someone on stage, Biden corrected himself.
"I'm proud to be Vice President of the United States," he said, "and I'm prouder to be Barack Obama, President Barack Obama's Vice President."
"Well, there goes that," Biden joked. "Look, on a serious note, I guess I'm lucky to get back to a serious note."
This of course wasn't the first time Biden was confused about who's in the White House. In November, he referred to Obama as President Clinton.
The fact that joker Biden has survived being where he is for all these years tells me what a joke some people are voting for him.

The military has been in special training in Atlanta area and other states for a couple of years now. Obama has declared himself King if Martial Law is declared and even controls private sector companies as needed. No doubt Obama has been planning for this for sometime and this is the MAIN reason he has been working towards banning the 2nd Amendment even under illegal Executive order. He does not want us to have guns to have a revolution. The libs are totally BLIND to anything like this. He is also working on abolishing the 22nd Amendment so he can go a 3rd and life term. The writing is on the White House! The UN has also been in training and asked to help, if needed.

Joe Biden, a career milk-toast Washington politician, has the excrementacious task of being Obama's 2nd in comand and designated fall-guy. But doesn't care because when he leaves, he'll have a fat government pension and health-care that is exempt from Obama-care rules.

For those people that did not vote for Obama, there is nothing accomplished by degrading yourself to show your disappointment. Obama was elected by those people that feel he is accomplishing something for them. Whatever it is. I did not vote for Obama, but he is our president for another 4 years and we should ALL stand behind him and support him. For hopefully his success will be Americas and her citizens. May G*D Bless America as we have a very high hill to climb to get back where we were before 2008 and beyond. Hopefully the next 4 years will bring the 24 million people into jobs, 47 million people off food stamps and those on Welfare hopefully will be reduced below the triple increase over the last 4 years. This is what HE said when He was taking his oath of office for VP ! THIS is the kind of arrogance I will never get over as these 2 MUST go . THIS is why I have such an issue with the democratic party today . Simple Arrogance that they think they can change everyones lifes to how they see it Simple Liberalism and it must stop . Disgusting as before they were elected , things were a lot better off . ANY Politician knows its not them that fixes the economy . NOW more taxes in My state and Fed and I see nothing good from it . We need perpople in Washington to CHANGE their attitudes not bring it back again !!! Wasn't this what they said about the Congress ? Anyone see any good come out of this yet ? Any new laws ? The economy IS doing better but it is still in a slump , Unemployment is down due to people NOT being able to file again and taking second rate jobs ... Companies or people with money will NOT spend money because of the tax laws being utterly change dfor one side . Nothing like sitting down and discussing these things with the IRS etc . And try and figure out a way to share the tax burden . OH , 10 % of the welathiest Americans is NOT going to pay down the National debt , so who's back will it fall on ? Ours ....
