President Obama signs bill to avoid fiscal cliff

President Barack Obama has signed a bill that boosts taxes on the wealthiest Americans, while preserving tax cuts for most American households.

The bill, which averts a looming fiscal cliff that had threatened to plunge the nation back into recession, also extends expiring jobless benefits, prevents cuts in Medicare reimbursements to doctors and delays for two months billions of dollars in across-the-board spending cuts in defense and domestic programs.

The GOP-run House approved the measure by a 257-167 vote late Tuesday, nearly 24 hours after the Democratic-led Senate passed it 89-8.

Obama, who is vacationing in Hawaii, signed the bill using an autopen, a mechanical device that copies his signature.

More revenue for more wasteful spending, in other words business as usual for our government. It is totally obvious our politicians have no regard for the deficit.

85 RepubliCANs voted for it..Yes They CAN too;

151 House RepubliCONs voted against the bill..time to target them - vote as many of them out as possible in November 2014.

Taxes are go rise for the TOP 1%.

The point is the fiscal cliff is over.

Stocks have been rising across the entire world since the cliff was over late night on the New Year's Day.

Actually when House Republicans ratified the deal, they are aware of Asian and European markets to open and react ... positively.

@ Pig I see why this country is going down the drain its because 52% of the voters are stupid enough to by all the lies and drink the koolaid, you want to keep the 85 irresponsible politicians that represent run away spending and just raised your taxes while you want to dismiss the 151 that were trying to get the run away spending under control, the problem is the spending, it has to stop, now Mr Obama wants no limit on the spending a blank check, can't you see the threat here???

The stock market wont remain, in the long run all we will get from this is more inflation and a more expensive life the stock market is just reacting to the news that government contracts wont be cut and things will be allowed to remain the same for a little longer, we still need to get it under control and Obama will fight that.

I, for one, am particularly glad to know that he used an autopen to sign this. But I don't think that's PCI-compliant, is it???

What the hell is he doing on Vacation again there is work to be done. does he know how much it cost to fly around in that plane. we should take that thing away from him until he does his job. we need a President that will show up in person to do his job, not some electronic signature from a golf course half way around the world. you people have found yourselves a real winner with this guy, I wonder does golf cart one have a wet bar?

How does anyone think that Obama has ever done ONE responsible thing for our country. Finally we have a House of Representatives that wants to debate every single bill---by the way low information voters that is the responsibility of the House. They are in charge of our money. Why would you want them to pass anything unless it was responsible, sound, economically sensible for our country?

Obama is so so arrogant he needs to get his ass kicked right back to Chicago. Very coky coky man. Cannot believe we hear these things out of our leader. He is a disgrace to our country. The voters who put this man back in charge are Clueless. No humility out of this man, Harry Reid or Pelosi. These people are suppose to make out life less complicated not more. They are suppose to work with the people not against them. Since when was it ever negative or discouraging to be successful Without successful individuals there would be no government. when are you people going to wake up?

What planet do you live on? finally the house does what? debate? When did this start? you had 67 republicons vote no. Why? because people who bought flood insurance should be put in a status of someone on welfare? Come on man, grow up, it's hypicrites like you who talk this smack, until it happends to you, then you are all for the help.

Maybe I am being to judgemental, now that I think about it it seems as though the only time something gets accomplished in Washington is when the president is gone, and even then its at a snails pace but the accomplishment if you can call it that was reached in his absence, now I have faith he will stay out of touch for the next 4 years and possibly get this issue fixed for good. we are running out of band aids.

Just a delay in spending cuts. One thing we are good at. Congress will have a great setting to improve their public opinion shortly. Trying to stay positive. Please, please, do your job. Our country depends on it. Please get a agreed upon federal budget.

Chicago politics in Washington no need to be present, in fact we don't even need to know your whereabouts, just check in once in a while so we know you are still alive and getting your paychecks on time, and those Government credit cards don't worry there is no limit on them.

It was pretty ingenuous to have golf cart#1 equipped with a auto pen, just hope he doesn't accidentally use the auto defense system by mistake, then we might have to buy the remains of a golf course.

          Where's the story, MSNBC?

Obama just issued another one of his illegal edicts, yesterday, granting illegal aliens asylum, if they have family, or close friends, that are U.S. citizens. All they have to do is state that it would be a "hardship", if they had to go home. What about the "hardship" the taxpayers bear, supporting more entitlement leeches? This is an action that more than 70% of Americans, absolutely do not support. Congress is criticizing his action, saying it is not legal, yet they won't do anything about it. Why?.....hispanic votes. Day by day, he is eroding the soul of this Country, while we stand by and let it happen. Pathetic!
