President Barack Obama is interviewed by David Gregory of NBC's "Meet the Press" on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 in an official White House photo by Pete Souza.
As the hours remaining for action dwindle, Washington and the nation prepared to hear more from President Barack Obama about the outlines of an acceptable deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff while Democratic and Republican leaders on Capitol Hill labored through what would normally be a relaxing holiday weekend.
After tasking the Senate with generating a compromise that would avert the onset of across-the-board automatic tax hikes and spending cuts on Jan. 1, the president was set to address some of the trade-offs he might accept in an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
President Barack Obama meets with NBC's David Gregory on Meet the Press Sunday morning. Gregory explains that for the president, this has become a matter of principle.
The round-the-clock talks were the byproduct of a meeting at the White House on Friday between the president and congressional leaders from both parties as the urgency to avoid the New Year's Day deadline increases. Those discussions produced a shift between the generally unilateral negotiations between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and toward new negotiations between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and his Republican counterpart, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
PRESS PASS: Obama on 'Meet the Press' in Sunday exclusive
For his part, Boehner has demanded that the Senate act first to produce legislation, on which he said the House would act — to either approve or amend it.
But the Saturday negotiations between Reid and McConnell appeared — outwardly, at least — to yield little in the way of consensus. Obama said Friday that if the Senate leaders could not strike a deal, he would ask Reid to advance bare-boned legislation that would preserve tax rates on income under $250,000 and extend expiring benefits for the unemployed.

A Senate Democratic aide said Saturday afternoon that Democrats were preparing to move ahead with that very plan and were not particularly optimistic about the prospects of reaching an accord with McConnell, whom they characterized as offering proposals he knows the Democrats will not accept.
Reid did not go to the Capitol on Saturday, the aide said, and talks played out primarily at a staff level and talks were expected to continue.
A Senate Republican aide, meanwhile, cautioned against expecting an announcement or news before tomorrow afternoon, at which point senators will be briefed then about the weekend talks. The House will also return for work on Sunday evening, around 6:30 p.m. ET.
"We have been in discussions all day, and they continue. And we will let you know as soon as we have some news to make," McConnell told reporters Saturday as he left the Capitol. "We have been trading paper all day and talks continue into the evening."
NBC's Mark Murray explains the "blame game" that would ensue in Washington should the U.S. go over the "fiscal cliff."
With his interview Sunday morning, Obama might look to add a new sense of urgency to the last-minute negotiations to avoid the fiscal cliff, which itself is an outgrowth of lawmakers' inability to reach any consensus in the past two years about how to address taxes and the rising national debt.

Obama led Democrats this year by campaigning for re-election on allowing the 2001 Bush tax cuts — which the president in 2010 agreed extend for two years past their original expiration date — to end for the wealthiest Americans. Republicans struck conciliatory notes after Obama's victory in November, but that language has given way over the course of negotiations to more familiar sniping over taxes and spending.

over the cliff we are going
Oh joy!!! More pontification by the Moron-In-Chief on the Obama Propaganda networks. I can't wait....
1) We are paying off GWB's bills, that were a major cause of the Great Recession.
2) When GWB left, our g.d.p. was at MINUS 8.9%. Unemployment was 7.8%.
2) President Obama walked into that gastronomical mess. He has done amazing work overcoming the economic nightmare caused by GWB's unpaid for wars, tax cuts, pharma (unprecedented, in a time of war).
3) Without the President's steps towards economic recovery, we'd have gone into another Great Depression. 5.6 million new private sector jobs created.
4) No help from GOP/Koch. FOUR YEARS OF OPEN, AND 100% OBSTRUCTION FROM GOP.
Now, of all the wealthiest nations, the U.S. is projected to have the strongest recovery.
Zathrose, John Boehner is the one who is the moron. He couldn't get the job done. And yes, it was HIS job to get this done. It's what a Speaker does.
People are suggesting that he even sold Mitch McConnell down the river by his antics. A fellow Republican.
Backhouse, Happy 2013!
We end up dealing with McConnell? The very man that started all this polarized, unwarranted, unhonorable, phony, racist political dysfunction. How ironic.
Republicans will continue their phony pathetic theatrics until it takes hold hard and fast. Thats an obvious. Why change now? Unhonorable people have nothing to lose.
Except the future of their party. Maybe thats the hope and change I voted for 4 years ago. The republican parties death.
I, and we, could easily live with that outcome as far as I'm concerned.
how typical...not a problem of the 'big O'...it's actually someone else's problem/issue that he has to be concerned with. of course, how could it be his problem???...and, if it was, how could he possibly resolve it??? based on what?...his experience???... huh?!?!?!?...probably not since he has no experience in business/leading/anything meaningful. duuuuhhhhhh!!!! what do i do next??? oh ya, when in doubt increase taxes and make sure that the illegals, etc. get a free ride. what a freakin' mantra!!!
"After congress labored through what would normally be a relaxing holiday weekend." I don't have a single ounce of sympathy for any member of congress. They have been taking a holiday the last 4 years instead of passing a budget, which should have been job number one.
I wonder, is it possible for the American people to take a vote of no confidence against every member all at the same time?
I am sure if McConnell and Boehner had anything to add to the conversation they can go on a Sunday Morning news-show. Boehner cant even get his caucus to agree to the GOP plan B and McConnell couldnt even do his stated job of making Obama a one term president. Two losers as leaders.
You see our President still working trying to avoid this, unlike Boehner who just threw up his hands and said the hell with it. That's why the HOR under his leadership only has a 9% approval rating.
I wonder if little David will interupt Obummer like he did Wayne? I doubt it. It seems Obummer got his little puppet out of trouble with the extended magazine. Little David wants more laws, but seems to have no respect for the laws of D.C.
As I've suggested previously:
Tax exemptions expire for incomes over $450 going back to 2000 rates. However, everyone should see a .01% tax increase, just to be fair.
No subsidies to companies with a net profit in excess of $5 Million, and any companies with net profits between $2.5M and $4.9M lose 50% of their subsidies
Cut defense spending by 10% but no cuts to VA medical benefits
No cuts to medicare or SS, however, both systems should be subjected to a very close audit and anyone found conducting any fraud, waste or abuse of those funds will receive at a minimum $250K fine. Those who did commit fraud, waste or abuse of medicare or SS in excess of $250K, should be required to pay the amount in excess plus receive a minimum of one year in jail. (Preferably at Sheriff Joe's in Arizona).
That should be a good start.
It's being reported all over the place that last night as legislators worked hard to put something together, Speaker Boehner was out having dinner and a few drinks. Not that there's anything wrong with that, however, at such a time when work - serious work against the clock has to be done - he's out having dinner, reportedly laughing and having a grand old time.
Very strange how he just walked away from all this. Very very strange.
Backhouse, Pat Boston MA we are getting sick of moronic comments come here little socialists I want to throw up on you.
@Pat Boston-
It's your heroes Obama and Reid that are standing in the way. Let the Senate vote on the House bills that have been already submitted. Reid is terrified to allow a vote because he knows that democrats will vote for them. Then if Obama vetoes the bills, he gets the blame. Wake up and stop being a usless lib tool.
Weakest and most arrogant POTUS in modern history.
Mr. president! where have you been for the last 12 MONTHS? Why show up now after the election? The country taxpayers had the right to know where you stood BEFORE the election! CONGRESS from both sides of the aisle do NOT sign anything without out SUBSTANTIAL budget CUTS that are effective immediately. YOU owe us your employers. PEOPLE watch this very closely and in the next electiion in 2014 and 2016 vote you HEAD not what your party tells you to do.
Gee, seems like you're the only one did not get the Message.
Hey!
The democrats WEREN'T going to vote for it.
The bill Boehner wanted to pass would have been vetoed, it was going nowhere - so instead of working with BOTH parties to make it better, he just threw up his hands and sent the House home for Christmas. On his way out the door he said - let the Senate do it.
If we the people can't agree on anything, why should we think our politicians will.
To backhouse:
The election ENDED in November, so you can quit with all the mumbo jumbo blow the trumpets the commander in chief is in the house BULL$HIT!!
ANYONE with a brain and I'll repeat that slowly so you can understand it..ANYONE with a brain and a third grade math education can see that when BUSH left office the Debt was 10 TRILLION dollars..NOW, UNDER OBAMA, its 16 TRILLION dollars..now use those formentioned math skills and subtract 10 from 16 and you get .....6 TRILLION DOLLARS in NEW DEBT in just 4 years..I dont give a rats a$$ how you spin it,thats the FACT!!
EVEN if he were paying off the wars that Bush supposedly didnt pay for,The WARS just reached the TRILLION DOLLAR price tag in his FINAL year in office..So where does the other 5 TRILLION come from that OBAMA has spent? Hair dresser apointments for Michelle and the girls?
Get real..We have a SPENDING PROBLEM that aint going to fix itsself..And sadly, we{The people AND congress} wont do a DAMN thing about it till the house of cards collapse..Just keep on spending and keep on drawing checks till that day will come in the NEAR future that when you make that long walk down the driveway to get your check out of the mailbox, you'll open up the envolope and it will read....SORRY!!
Obama has not had a budget (spending plan for you liberals) in nearly four years and we expect him to solve a spending problem???
So silly!
Pat in Boston. Who are you? Barney's husband dying with AIDS? You idiot, stupid moron, the Democrat Senate has not bassed a budget in four years, Monkey Man Nobama's bill was rejected by his own Dem Senate 98-0. Monkey Man has not offered one single money-saving proposal at all. His stupid tac increases would pay for exactly eight days of the Fed's expenses. So STFU.
And, most of all the Money Man has quadrupled the debt he started with, and that debt was caused by Blow Job Billy and your husband forcing the urban banks to give ignorant, lazy, urban ubangis low cost mortgages that got packaged into junk bonds, So again, STFU and die in peace, you moron
Pat - All the very best, and best of health in the coming year!
With their "little socialists" comments - maybe some folks on here are thinking of relocating to Canada? Happy, happy, universal healthcare might bust their gaskets.
Of course, Blade is correct. Our Federal spending as a part of GDP has risen from 20% in 2008 to 26% in 2010. The recession ended in 2009.
Obama is spending us into irreversible economic, societal and ruinous oblivion.
http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2012/08/government-spending-as-percentage-of-gdp.html
Old Fat Head,
Dems are no longer the spendthrifts of the political world. That title belongs to the Republic Party.
The cliche' that Dems are "tax and senders" is no longer operative, and went out of vogue during Reagan's time.
Pubbies are the "borrow and spenders".
You can look it up.
http://zfacts.com/p/gross-national-debt.html
Yeah,.....I'll wait.
GOPis......The first 43 presidents accrued $10 trillion in debt. 44 has added $6 trillion in 4 years. What part of that do you not follow?
CAUTION. NOT FOR THE FAINTED-HEARTED-FAUX-BLINDFOLDED:
"We found that Obama has indeed presided over the SLOWEST GROWTH IN SPENDING OF ANY PRESIDENT using raw dollars, and the growth on his watch was the second-slowest if you adjust for inflation." (Breitbart.com)
"Contrary to the tax-and-spend stereotype of Democrats -- President Barack Obama has actually presided over THE SMALLEST INCREASES IN FEDERAL SPENDING of any recent president". (Polititifact.com/trut-o-meter)
PRESIDENT OBAMA: SMALLEST INCREASES IN FEDERAL SPENDING OF ANY RECENT PRESIDENT.
If Obama really wanted to engage and lead the country, then he would have done it four years ago. Obama is pure Faculty Lounge. He is only lacking the pipe and cargagan sweater
President Obama has led us into economic recovery, while Europe is tanking due to Austerities with unemployments at 25%.
Watch GOP/Koch try to douse U.S. recovery once again.
As if getting downgraded by S & P wasn't enough in 2011. Greed, delusion.
GOP would like to do it again.
He begged for this interview and told obama anything he wants, "just please dont put me in jail because of last sunday, I did what you asked and bushwhacked the NRA call off the ATF for me"
If a high-capacity magazine can be used against a classroom of little children: --
It certainly can be shown on Mr. Gregory's show.
If 9 armed guards are good enough for Sidwell Friends..........
the fiscal cliff is jack@!$%#.... you wait just wait until they want to BARROW MORE and raise the BORROWING limit and then OBAMACARE kicks into full swing in 2013-2014 and EVERYONE IS GOING TO PAY A BUTTLOAD MORE....
EVERYONE EVERYONE EVERYONE.....
LIberals are complete TOOLS... I have voted since Carter (definitely not for him)....I do not need partisan rhetoric to see anything...
We are so screwed and there is plenty of blame to go around.
Yes, let's have a little blitherblather. Mmm,
...Two trains leave the station at 9 am and travel at 30 miles an hour... how many of the travelers would Shosyn call "tools"?
Heh, well, at least the ongoing obvious obstructionism gives the Senate good reason to act on the filibuster rules as the first order of business - if they hope to conduct any business in the New Year! (Happy one to all!)
Backhouse,Pat Boston great posts as usual,i always enjoy reading them your links are very informative also.
Hopefully a deal can be done if the house gets around to work, the senate also sent a bill to the house i believe it was sometime in the summer.
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!
MIKE, very best to you in 2013!
GOP looks out for the ultra-rich.
(Speaker Boehner may try to pull a "Hastert Rule" or whatever.)
But both GOP chambers are capable of preventing a tax hike on the middle class.
Well said G-Dog. Thank you. Happy New Year to all!
GOPis,
Thanks for the great link. And best wishes to ya for the New Year!
I just realized, Boehner may turn out to be a hero in this fiasco. Boehner said he wanted the Senate to lead, and draft a plan he would have the House approve or amend. Since he left out the word REPUBLICANS, is it possible Boehner plans on letting House democrats and moderate republicans band together to override the three dozen or so Taliban teabaggers who represent most of the obstructionist ?....If that turns out to be the case, Boehner truly will be a hero with the American people, and the contract with Grover Norquist will be null and void......
Let's see how President Obama's Meet the Press Interview matches this from Durbin!
"We can't be so naive to believe that just taxing the rich will solve our problems, said Senator Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate. "Put everything on the table. Repeat. Put everything on the table", stated the Senator in a speech at the Center for American Progress. "Progressives cannot afford to stand on the sidelines and deny the obvious".
http://articles.latimes.com/2012/nov/27/news/la-pn-durbin-progressives-fiscal-cliff-20121127
Will Obama drop the tax on the rich and come up with $800 Billion real cuts by tomorrow, in time for the Republicans in the House to sign up? Or will he go with "hope".
The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Ignorant Chicken Little's -- All of you rightwingers. Hey, here's an idea. Go to your Doomsday Bunkers with all your new guns and ammunition and stay there. We'll let you know when it's safe to come out. ; ]
Backhouse
The recession was caused by the housing bubble. That was caused by a bi-paritsan compromise bill called Graham, Leachy, Bililey Act of 1999. The left likes to blame it on the republican part that permitted Finance, Banking, investment, and Insurance to be under one roof, one corporation. They love to call it "deregulation". They like to leave out that CRA gave the fed the ability to investigage any lending institution to see if they were discriminating. Once that occured the fed could visit and tell them they were not making enough low income loans, make more or be kicked out of the Fed reserve OR hauled into Federal court.
Then there was the 5 years of keeping investigators out of the Home Mortgage issue saying "there is nothing wrong". Do you know why? I do. Seems former Clinton officials were raking in big bonuses for the number of low-income loans their government sponsored entities approved. Both these groups then polluted the securities market with loans that would fail, just so they wouldn't get caught with the bad loans themselves.
That is not a GW thing, that is a greedy politician good ole boys network running DC.
Kenn
What? A democrat breaking ranks. I bet that hurts him at re-election time in DNC funds, appropriations buried in bills, and big name surrogates.
The Republicans don't have the same amount of power over their crew. If a conservative breaks ranks with the moderates, the moderates might shut the RNC funds off, but conservative groups around the country pull their funding from the RNC and send it to the conservatives.
There were two reason republicans failed from 2001 - 2007. In the Senate, there were plenty of Republicans that would vote with the democrats in the Senate. The house is a bit of a different animal right now. There are only about 20 - 30 Republicans that might vote with the democrats, but so far very few have.
The US money policy according to Obama the Dictator = say goodbye to your funds?
Just wait another 30 days when the debt ceiling is raised again, then the US Dollar will take another inflationary hit and prices go up again further lowering the working force purchasing power!!
MtMike
The dollar is already being pummelled. That is why you are hearing some manufacturers looking at bringing production back to the US. This is because the Dollar has already been falling in value from the 3 QE's that have been run by the Government.
We don't notice the inflation too much, but, if you had a grocery receipt from 3 years ago, other than government subsidized products, the cost has gone up 20 - 40% while the sizes of the products have been decreased by 20 - 30%.
The TEA PARTY - those fools want to reduce spending and control deficits.... they are the bad guys?
DB Akron -- Hahaha ! You are very confused with the Republican Borg and the 11th commandment not to criticize your own. And let's not forget the premeditated meeting on the day of President Obama's inauguration to block and obstruct any success.
The Establishment Oligarchy GOP created the Tea Party monster, and now the inmates have taken over the asylum. But they still march lock-in-step--just for different reasons. The Establishment for their Plutocrat donors, and the Tea Party caucus out of ignorance.
Yes, there are less Blue Dogs in the Democratic Party now, but liberals by nature question authority, vote their conscience, put country before Party, and are truly compassionate.
MtMike-571674 -- If the Teapublicans carry out another debt ceiling debacle, this would indeed cause more economic crisis than the fiscal curb. The last hostage-taking fiasco increased our interest rates and therefore the deficit. In other words, raising the debt ceiling in a timely and responsible manner will prevent fiscal harm.
Inflation is more affected by interest rates set by the Feds, which they will keep low until unemployment returns to normal levels. Obamacare will save small business and the public money, as well as provide savings to the deficit. Chicken Littles I tell ya.
Once the fiscal curb and debt ceiling are behind us, and the new congress comes into office, the economy will continue to recover at a faster pace. This is what Teapubicans in Washington are afraid of. Success for Americans, proof that demand-side economics works best, and that the Dems are better at governing.
The word "fools" is the answer to your question.
RWNJs can't be reasoned with - that's why they are rwnjs;
The Voters will again start housecleaning of these rwnjs again in November 2014.
TruePatriot-445959
"Yes, there are less Blue Dogs in the Democratic Party now, but liberals by nature question authority, vote their conscience, put country before Party, and are truly compassionate."
I do not know of many liberals that question authority. They seem to want the government to have more control over everyone, and to control the lives of everyone. I want my 32 oz cola and the right to smoke if I desire, as long as there is no one near that it offends. I like my old gas guzzling car because I am able to fix it without a computer or watching the dealer remove the cab from the chassis just to change the spark plugs. I don't drive much so I just keep my old car that I can fix. I fill it up about once every 6 weeks. That is at least one freedom I have been able to keep so far!
I prefer the freedoms that caused the United States to be created. I do not believe in taxation without representation. I do not agree with the major spending that is happening across the nation with no visible results. I do not believe the job numbers the government puts out. I have almost lost faith in my country's government leaders. I hope they are able to restore my faith in them.
Ok conservative and right wingers alike, lets review a couple of things shall we:
Which party held a close door meeting the day after the election in 2008?
Which party vowed to obstruct ANYTHING the President proposed during his tenure?
Which party leader vowed on the Senate floor to make Obama a one term President?
Who couldn't sell the plan him and the President agreed too in 2011 to his own party then CONVENIENTLY pretended there was no deal after he got his tan backside handed to him?
Who led a successful campaign aimed at letting taxes go up on $250k and higher?
Which party lost seats in both the House and the Senate this past November?
Which leader continued to demand changes to the "fiscal cliff" and when he got the majority of what he wanted, continued to run away and finally gave up when he couldn't lead his own caucus to pass his own "Plan B"
Last but not least, Which party REFUSES to listen to the majority of American's regarding taxes and spending in Lieu of a "pledge"?
Zathrose,
How sad how blind you are to the truth and reality! So typically republican't and Do Nothing! Interesting to see how many right wingers remain loyal to their God, Norquist, over the good of the country and those rich millionaires and billionaires!
Our small town paper asked who the people would blame if the fiscal cliff happened. Even here in rural America it is obvious to the public. 80% said the republicans. On CNN it is 42% republican and 2.2% democrats. (that is 84% to 4.4% if you double it) Bye Bye republican party! So before you blame you should at least note who the far majority of Americans blame of will be blaming. So much smarter than so many of you nut right republican conservatives.
number3rtech,
I do not believe that you realize that the taxes being paid now are the lowest since the 60's and because of the bush tax rates for 12 years, 4 of which Obama allowed also, we are $10,000,000,000,000 short in revenue and add the $4,000,000,000,000 cost for bushes wars and you have 85% of the deficit!
Very well said Backhouse,
I wish the mentally challenged right wing nut jobs who post here could understand the
government hating Kochtopus' damage to this country. The only thing these corporate welfare whores are interested in is plutocracy. Since they hate governmnet and our President why don't they just buy an island with their billions of dollars and take their foolish slaves with them?
Happy New Year
Harry John
I wonder if little David will interupt Obummer like he did Wayne? I doubt it. It seems Obummer got his little puppet out of trouble with the extended magazine. Little David wants more laws, but seems to have no respect for the laws of D.C.
FYI: Harry John,
David Gregory got permission for the magazine
The incident is also fueling allegations of media bias.
http://news.yahoo.com/gun-control-david-gregory-air-stunt-proof-media-194112790.html
Similarly, the media bias for the fallacy of both sides are responsible. No, it's all the pigs on the Republican side who wish to destroy this nation hoping it will provide them a pathway to the White House in 2016. Forget it most of the fools will be purged in 2014 and who knows if they will even be a Republican Party in 2016?
Once again a simple Civics lesson stating the Congress, not the President is responsible for passing laws. From 2001 until 2007 the Republicans where the majority in both Houses with a Republican President. It is is a fact the this recession began in 2007. So it does not take a mental Giant to realize the party at fault for this economic collapse is the Republicans. Now with a majority in the House since 2010, they have blocked every attempt by this Democratic President to right the wrongs visited upon us by the 107th - 109th Congress.
If we go over the cliff, there is only one party to blame...
23 skidoo

Indeed, the Republican Tea Potty are to blame
How many bills has the current 112th Congress passed? You'll be surprised. 196 bills!
Just 196 bills, easily the lowest total since the U.S. House Clerk's office started keeping track. Consider the progress in chart form, which should drive home just how unproductive the 112th Congress (2011-2012) really is:
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/commentid-congress
Yes in comparision to President Harry Truman's "Do nothing Congress" they are the worst.
All those Republican pigs should be charged with legistaive treason!!!
I assume everyone saw:
Which means Obama still wins with the increased taxes.
Backhouse
Backhouse,
Except that if bonehead does it again, the drunkard needs to know he has already bronken the Hastert rule.
Boehner Broke the Hastert Rule, Says Hastert
"I don't want to be critical of John, but you don't ever bring something to the floor without the votes," former Speaker Dennis Hastert told the Alley.

No wonder the right wing nut jobs are ignorant!!! They are being led by a clueless drunkard and a hateful Mr Maggo, turlte looking Mitch McConnel whose only desire was to block, obstruct, and make our President a "One Term President"

Epic FAIL!!!
Congress sent a bill to the Senate in October the Senate has sent a bill to Congress as well the next step is to reconcile the difference in the two.
Obama and Reid have steadfastly said it's my way or the highway refusing even any discussion on the matter so who's fault is it really?
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!
Fiscal cliff? What fiscal cliff?
Hey Libbies, your sacrosanct government is really concerned about saving your money for you.
First they ask for the Hurricane Sandy relief bill to be passed, so they pass it.
Hmmmm, what happened to the other $27.18 billion? Do you think it can be lurking around somewhere as "PORK"?
OH LOOK!!!! I found the pork.

AND, for all that work I guess it's time to reward our hard working civil servants.
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-orders-raise-biden-members-congress-federal-workers_692223.html
Hmmmm, so when was YOUR pay freeze lifted at your workplace? Do you have the privilege of an "executive order" to be used to just raise your pay without going through Congress, AGAIN?!?!?!?
Yes, more government is always the answer isn't it? Look how well our economy and standard of living has been doing with more and more government intrusion for the past 100 years and more dramatically over the past decade.
In the first 225 years of our government, we accrued $5 trillion in Debt. Over the past 12 years we have added $11 trillion more.
So, how much better is your life?
More importantly, how much better is your childs future?
@clwyd-2621393
So what?! That just proves that 80% of your town are a bunch of low IQ sheep. I'm not surprised as they say...birds of a feather..
Obama is stuborn, congress is stubborn, so no deal is possible.
No change since 2010. We might as well get used to it. The Dems made a huge mistake not winning back the House of Representatives. Four more years.
Beverly: done yet with your lying bull carp? And, since everyone with an opinion or position that contradicts yours is some kind of rwnj... or other derogatory descriptive, why don't you just take a big timeout. Your hatred must be making you ill, physically ill... we already know you are demented and ready for committment to the Asylum...
Zathrose,
My town is a well educated and professional town with large industries and a Tech. college. You might be interested in a similar CNN Poll that had 44% blaming republicans and only 2.2% Democrats. Keep living in Never Never Land and out of touch with reality! Oh, did you know that Obama won the Nov. election ?
Tony Disgusting,
It is so interesting to read the righties comments about people that they know nothing about and yet make up lies about them? You are one of them and Zathrose is another! Zathrose not only insults myself, but takes to whole town down. Lumps all 11,000+ together and then insults them. Most of them college grads. from a local university. I know college grads. are probably going to get called Commies now?
The Republican congress is behaving treacherously. Because of the right-wing's refusal to bargain fairly and in good faith, the U.S. lost its AAA credit rating. Our financial downgrade was historic. Standard and Poor's statement about its downgrade of our financial status was clear: ["Because of Washington D.C's political grid lock, our financial credibility was lowered to AA"]
What are Cantor and his "we are married to the 1%" crowd doing?
Again, they are standing in the way of economic progress, political participation and social dignity for our citizens.
The Republicans need to follow the course of the Whig party and become defunct!
Hope we go over the cliff, then everyone can share the burden Obama has created!!!!
You realize, of course, that means YOU?
Yep I realize that and I have my finances in order, do you!!!
You can have all your finances in order that you want, you will still feel it when it happens. Food prices will go up, service everywhere will go down, and more people unemployed. That means on every bridge you exit, every parking lot, and store, there will be people asking for money. All because of the Tea Party members of the House unwilling to compromise on an issue they lost on during the election. Well I know one House Representative that won't be there come 2014 when I get to cast my vote again.
LOL Like I said I have my finances in order, I don't care if milk goes to 10.00 a gallon I'll still buy it, gas can do the same I'll still buy it, these people on the corner can ask for all the money they want I'll just drive on by and give them a wave!!! You can vote for whomever you want Democrat or Republican they all will screw you!!!
Don't pat yourself to hard on the back, you might knock the $hit out of yourself and then you wouldn't exist.
Obama did not create this debt. Do you have a clue what is going on? Do you even know who owns most of the US debt? Do you know that the Republican platform is all about privatize everything and paying no taxes on the wealth they extract from the economy? Their end game is to help themselves and the one percent can get richer while you the average American pay more for everything. Everything they do is geared to make the one percent richer at your-our expense. You need to wake up and see who is looking out for you, your family and your neighbors. It sure as hell is not the Republican traitors in Congress.
You have either an extremely short memory or an extremely convenient memory, sir.
Buy whatever you want, drive by and wave. You are very lucky, hope it holds out for you cause you sound kinda like a dink.
I look out for myself, everything I have I own, cars are paid for, house is paid for, I own no credit cards, I pay cash for everything and without Government help!!!
i say let the bush tax cuts come , stop extending unemployment and pay down the debt
Gee, another who has overdosed on FOX propaganda. Guess you didn't pay attention in 2008 when the other guy drove us in the ditch.
So why are you on here b!tching about it? If you're all set, you shouldn't be here.
iowaretiree
"Hope we go over the cliff, then everyone can share the burden Obama has created!!!!"
Obama has created ???????? Maybe in Iowa they don't teach people about a little thing called the constiution. When it comes to raising or lowering taxes it is now and always has been the responsibility of the Republican/Tea Party congress, NOT THE PRESIDENT.
Iowaretiree, I know it may be painful but you have to face the fact that it's your own beloved Republican Party that is playing economic terrorism with our economy.
If the burden your referring to is the deficit and national debt, both of these things were exacerbated by the Republican Party under Bush and were dumped into President Obama's lap.
I realize facts are not the strong suit amongst most Republicans these days. Perhaps you are one of those Republicans suffering from Fox News selective amnesia.... You should seek physiological help before this becomes a permanent condition and you loss complete touch with reality.
In the mean time at least TRY to be fair and place blame where blame is due.
Start with budget cuts with the white house budget...oh they have none!
What burden would that be,.....balanced budgets?
A concept wholly alien to you Pubbies.
I love reading ultra-biased posts by gravy licking freeloaders. If they discuss real problems--which normally they ignore as if abortion and gay marriage are our most urgent issues--the discussion goes directly to Bush. Obama did not mention the word 'jobs' his entire first 2 years in office. All his energy went towards healthcare laws and preparing for the next election. Gravy licking minions couldn't care less about issues not directly relating to getting something for nothing. Perhaps we can get some fairness and allow the fiscal cliff implications. I can handle it financially and it would be fun watching all the gravy bowl lickers running for cover and figuring out a way to blame it on Bush. What a bunch of nitwits.
Well Benda, what you described about people everywhere buming money has been happening in my neck of the woods for the past year and a half..So get used to it, it aint going to get better ANY time soon..But ofcourse thats Bushes fault aint it?
And to Backhouse..Like I said before, the ELECTION is OVER..Has been since Nov.So you can quit blowing the trumpets and bowing down to kiss the leader in chiefs BOOTS..Better yet, stay in that position cause its easier to ram it up your a$$, which is what we're ALL getting....... SCREWED
By the way,....who is paying Daddy Bush's medical expenses now? It wouldn't be Socialist medicine,......would it?
David Puddy: Another sad sack republican bashing Obama because he didn't focus all his campaigning talking about jobs. That was the common theme song for a year before the election. How'd that work out for you? Here's a clue, he didn't need to. Obama pointed out the difference between his agenda and Romney's snake oil and won hands down. Democrats post facts and republicans 1 liners and insults.
Here's some facts for you to digest. 5 million people lost their jobs Bush's last 6 months with 800,000 his last month. The losses continued under Bush's last budget that ran from Oct. 2008 through Oct. 2009. The stock market had the largest loss in history falling from 14,000+ to 6400. The largest housing collapse also the worst in history. Bush's last budget had a deficit of 1.2 trillion dollars. Bush passed his 400 billion a year tax cut with most going to the rich under the theory it would create jobs. Bush averaged 32,000 jobs a month over his 8 years the worst since Eisenhower and only 1/3 the rate they grew under Obama. That's why Obama didn't have to constantly talk about jobs because what he was doing was working. If you can't understand why Americans blamed Bush by a margin of 2 to 1, even republicans maybe when you hit 3rd grade you'll understand.
Romney's plan of the same old thing of cutting revenue another 500 billion mostly for the rich while increasing spending another 200 billion on the military and 50 billion on a new space program was clearly more Bush spend, spend, spend. Romney never bothered to explain how cutting spending on social programs 50 billion a year would cancel out his 250 billion new spending just as he never explained how he'd pay for his 500 billion tax cut by eliminating deductions for the wealthy when eliminating every single one wouldn't cover 1/4th that. You can bash Obamacare but it's paid for unlike every single thing Bush did. 2 wars, drug plan and 400 billion in lost revenue. Bush went from a surplus under Clinton and a 4.2% unemployment rate to a 1.2 trillion deficit his last year and a 7.9% rate. Actually over 9% by the time his budget ended.
GOPisextinct
By the way,....who is paying Daddy Bush's medical expenses now? It wouldn't be Socialist medicine,......would it?
________________________________________________________________________________________
It is the same insurance that is paying for all the rest of the Government officials in Washington, including the Clintons, Carters, Bushes etc. or are you forgetting all of them get their coverage for life after one term in office. When you break all that down the American people are paying for all of them for the rest of their lives and you think they aren't screwing us. If you don't then I have some swamp land to sell you or maybe the Brooklyn Bridge.
I think most of the people that post on here have the IQ of a small rock...and are just as hard headed.
this is crazy. republoodican or democrap, obama won the election, with a majority of support. He campaigned on raising taxes on the wealthy. Those who argue this will destroy the economy is wrong because we had higher taxes on the wealthy before reagan and there was no Apocalypse. nd theres well bill clinton, cough cough. And the evidence to say lowering taxes alone grows the economy is also wrong, that was proven in 2001-2008 (republican amnesia). but in all honesty raising taxes doesnt grow the economy as well. every president that had a sexy economy did it in a balanced way. By raising/lowering taxes and spending. FDR,JFK, Reagan,Clinton, nd soon Obama
David Puddy - Exactly what drives your obvious obsession with gravy?
Iowaretiree: You are spot on, I couldn't agree more with your comments, lets go over the cliff, now. Why delay the inevitable? I won't like having to pay more for everything but I am in a position to do so if necessary. Nothing will change in Washington until there is literally no more to spend or give away. 51% of the American voters voted for what is about to happen, they deserve what they are about to get. I hope you have a great year, sounds to me like you will! Hats off to you for apparently making some wise decisions and living within your means; now you will enjoy a comfortable life while others will try to figure out who they can take from next.
David Puddy sat in some gravy!
Must have been Obama;s fault!
Cannot believe the spendthrift republicans are up in arms about all the government spending when there wasn't even a whimper from them when a republican Congress gave Bush and Cheney a no-limit credit card to pay for two unfunded wars, tax cuts for the rich, no bid contracts to Haliburton to rebuild Iraq after we were through blowing it up and Medicare part-D which transfers Medicare taxpayer dollars to private insurance companies. And where were all the protests from republicans when Bush kept repeating, "the economy is strong", while this good-ship America was sinking fast ? ............
The only time republicans are concerned about spending is when they are not in total control of the credit card..... ....And that is the truth.
Michael
Privatize everything? The senior citizen prescription drug program was a republican idea that simply set regulations on how the program should work. It only is an adminstrator to insure the insurance companies offer plans acceptable to federal standards. The seniors pick the program from a private insurance company and pays the premium. The program costs 40% less than the CBO projected it to cost.
Don't you think saving 40% on medicare and medicaid would be a good thing too?
What about the ACA. Projected cost at becoming law, $900 Billion. Current CBO projection $2.7 TRILLION.
Moderat
Obama won 51% of the popular vote, but the Republicans won 54% of the house seats campaigning on NOT raising taxes.
The democrats have 53 Seats in the senate by virture of avoiding saying much about raising taxes.
DB Akron
Obama won over 60% of the electoral vote(the vote that counts). The Republicans actually LOST seats in both houses. It is all a matter of perspective. In the end, there is but one fact. The Republicans lost this round.
What the fools on this communist propaganda site don't see is that the POS Obama is gleefully subverting the whole negotiating process so he can raise taxes on everyone, then blame it on the GOP...
McConnell recently said that the House could not take up the bill passed by the Senate during the summer because of the 'procedures', i.e., all spending and tax bills must originate in the House. Seems he has no problems getting a new compromise down to the House. At this time there should be a couple of things to look for: the GOP Senate should not filibuster an agreement between Reid and McConnell, or even a plan put forward by the Dems alone...the GOP would be seen as forcing the country "over the cliff". If the Boner fails to put the compromise to a full house up or down vote, the GOP would be seen as forcing the country "over the cliff". If there is a compromise, and he does put it up for a full house vote, and it passes with majority Dem votes, Obama is seen as a deal maker and has leverage for the debt ceiling. Ergo, look for no compromise from Reid and McConnell.
Harry Reid keeps saying tax bills MUST originate in the HOUSE. The Supreme Court said ObamaCare is a tax bill. It originated in the Senate. So is ObamaCare illegal?
If its something that OMAMAGOD wanted, then its legal..didn't you get the talking points?
Thats right laws do not matter if The democrats want it they get it. Regardless of what the people say.
"Republicans struck conciliatory notes after Obama's victory in November, but that language has given way over the course of negotiations to more familiar sniping over taxes and spending"- This is not even close to news, it is pure one-sided propaganda- sniping? LOL read the quote and tell me who is sniping.
When you are right, aka Democrats, then it's not sniping as you call it, it's telling the truth. When you are wrong, aka Republicans, it's called sniping.
Well Brenda, you seem to be a smart Democrat..so tell us..Do we KEEP on the spending path that we're on OR do we try and find a way to pay our BILLS?
Why was it ok to spend when Bush was president, as Cheney said, deficits don't matter. They don't matter to republicans until a democrats president then they convince the mindless sheep the worlds coming to an end. I suppose you had no problem with Bush running up the deficit from 5.7 trillion to 12.1 trillion. Republicans put 2009 on Obama but the 2009 budget was passed by Bush on Oct 2008, one month before Obama was elected. Bush's last budget had a 1.2 trillion deficit. If Obama had simply ran Bush's last budget the deficit would still be 15.7 trillion with no new spending.
Romney presented his plan and the sheep cheered about his great fiscal plan ignoring the lack of details. He proposed cutting 500 billion in revenue, increasing military spending 200 billion and 50 billlion or so for a new space program. He proposed cutting 50 billion from social programs which would still leave 200 billion a year in new spending. His 500 billion tax cut he claimed he'd pay for by eliminating deductions on the rich but ignored that eliminating them all wouldn't cover 1/4 that 500 billion. At least Obama pays for what he implements. If Romney had been elected our deficit would have exploded.
Like I have said before when Obama took over the debt was only 5 trillion.
What the fools on this communist propaganda site don't see is that the POS Obama is gleefully subverting the whole negotiating process so he can raise taxes on everyone, then blame it on the GOP...
Lock every one of these son-of-a-bitches in a chamber till they come up with a solution. Any other other job in America, if you fail to perform, your fired, plain and simple. Why is it so hard to get thing done in this country. I'am so sick and tired of this..things have got to change!! Here is an idea:
Congressional
Reform Act of 2014
1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below..
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms
2. No Tenure / No Pension.
1. Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/14.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.
It is time to make a change!
Amen Lone Highway. One major peeve of mine is they should have the same "entitlements" as me! Our wonderful 401K, paying your share of a Health premium,etc...( with which I have no prob with) Thats the gist of it, son's of B's... Lead by example...
Yeah Lone Highway. It would also force these people to live under the changes they wrought while in office. No animal fouls his own cage.
I also would legislate a mandatory death penalty for any politician caught taking money from any lobbyist organization for 5 years following their office term.
I'd also make it legal to carry loaded weapons in legislative offices and into legislative observation galleries. If we are sitting ducks out here,....then they should be too.
What you failed to propose is that the terms cannot be consecutive and they should be prohibited from jumping bewteen the House and Senate once their term ends.
So its 2 in / 2 out,
6 in / 6 out,
6 in / 2 out / 2 in / 2 out / 6 in etc.
I hope they frisked Gregory real good, before they let him near the president. I hear he likes to smuggle extreamly dangerous items into DC, like completely empty high capacity magazines.
coder64---Gregory and Williams are getting new offices set up in the White House so they can be at Obama's every beckoning call.
I guess the taxpayers get to pay for Mr. O's principles...
STOP THE MADNESS!
ALLOW THE PRESIDENT TO USE EXECUTIVE ORDER TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING EVERY YEAR.
ALLOW ANY PRESIDENT TO USE EXECUTIVE ORDER TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING TO WHATEVER THE AMOUNT IS THAT CONGRESS HAS ALREADY APPROPRIATED EVERY YEAR.
What you suggest is madness. Raising the debt ceiling is the perfect time to start trying to bring things under control........it is called budgeting. I doubt anyone in politics has heard of it.
Take away the credit card from the wannabe Emperor and the SPENDOCRATS!
No debt ceiling increase. Force them to cut other programs to live within our means.
Put America First
The money has already been appropriated and spent. No one can decide not to pay their bills just because they feel like it. If they do, they will find themselves without a house, a car, or any way to live. Once you spend the money, you have to pay the bills. That's the way it works. If you want to stop making your house payment or your car payment, I suggest you try it and see how well it works. Budgeting means you figure out how to pay the bills you have already created. You don't get to change your mind. This whole business with the debt ceiling is just Congress playing out their own sick little Tea Party drama. If they wanted to fight about the bills, the time to do so was when the bills were being created, by THEM!
The lying POS Obama is gleefully subverting the whole negotiating process so he can raise taxes on everyone, then blame it on the GOP...
It was the Republicans who created this entire "fiscal cliff" garbage several months ago (under threat of causing default on US Debt) out of thin air. They are entirely to blame. In the past, debt ceiling increases were passed without spectacle. But that was before the tea partiers who hate America arrived on the scene.
Moosatious - No it was both parties, the Senate, House and the President. The Democrats demanded a 10 year TEMPORARY Bush tax cut, so everyone KNEW that it would expire and tax rates would return to 2000 rates. The Republicans forced Obama's hand and got Obama to agree to extend the TEMPORARY tax rates for two years (remember Obama promised to veto any bill extending the Bush tax cuts, but he caved.) This would not be a true TAX RAISE, but a return to the permanent rates which is what what the politicians originally agreed to.
How can you blame the republicans for all of this mess? The Dems had 2 years where they controlled the House and the Senate and they turned their Presidents Budget down each year. How is putting our fiscal house in order the Republicans fault? Or the Democrats fault?
As a Republican, I am dissappointed in the GOP from a compromise perspective. I am not a TEA party guy but how can anyone defend raising taxes without spending cuts? The TEA party just wants to stop the taxation of our nation.
I guess I'm out of touch but I taught my children there are consequences of bad behavior. If you are a Democrat, aren't you getting tired of blaming Bush for everything? You act like nobody else voted for his plans and actions. Seems we are so set in our minds that we can't even TRY to see things from another point of view.
Lets solve this issue and let the entire group of DC Elite, Including your beloved President, pay for their bad behavior. Vote them out and get responsible people in office.
As for the GOP focusing on just making the 1% wealthier, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard Michael Farrey. How does the 1% making them more money help me? Think it through.
My final thought, then everyone can bash me, is that the re-election of Obama was not a mandate for his policies! He was elected because we have created an Government Supported population. Why would they vote out the guy that is giving them stuff and elect a guy who wants them to earn it (and I understand poeple need help sometimes) and try to get off the Government teet.
Solve the ego problem in America and we can then work on the other problems. Until then, Big-O, Johnny Boy, Old Man Reid, and their people will screw ALL of us!!
with respect,
Moostacious, continue to enlighten yourself by watching Maddow and Fat Ed every weeknight. What you've learned is showing brightly.
"Why would they vote out the guy that is giving them stuff and elect a guy who wants them to earn it (and I understand poeple need help sometimes) and try to get off the Government teet."
Most democrat minions don't want to admit this.....this is exactly the truth and they don't care a bit about solutions to pproblems.
Waste of air time and bandwidth..........
A nice present for us before they take our means away to defend ourselves away. Only libtards would tax the h3ll out of you before taking away your 2nd amendment rights. You read it here first, they are working on taking your 401k too. Withdraw limits, no loans or deducts before age 70, and .gov nows owns the stock and bond markets where 401k rests anyways. Libtards don't have a clue.
Whereas you have a paranoid fantasy. Conservitards are going to take the fall for this crisis.
"Screw the 98% to protect the 2% that is richer than god"
Right UrbaniStan?
these teatards they a bunch of fkn paranoid folks yeah?? lmfao Urbandoormat they gonna take your wife and kids too watch out for them buggers
Give 'em hell, Mr. President. Make them sweat and then make them pay. The GOP is the worst thing to happen to America since Eisenhower left office.
They are going to pay, their party is done after this debacle, and they know it.
It is extremists like MSNBC that is the problem with the country. They refuse to be reasonable or get along with others.
Since all of you bleeding heart liberals dislike President Bush so much and want to kiss Obama's rear end, why don't you do the right thing and start paying the TAX RATES that were temporarily raised under Bush, which Obama promised to veto two years ago and then "chickened out". I would think you would be embarrassed to even except the so called "Bush tax cuts". Remember what VP BIDEN said "It's patriotic to pay more taxes". So come on be patriotic and refuse to accept any of Bush's tax cuts.
Why should I increase the taxes I pay when the rich are not paying their fair share. Why the hell should I subsidize them? Because that's what it is, a massive tax subsidy for the rich, paid for by the middle class in lost wages and benefits, out of starvation wages and unsafe workplaces and lack of medical care.
Rob them, take their money! Give me more! Where is my Obamaphone! Where is My big Screen, my laptop, free internet access!
That's what you sound like.
Slacker
Preisdent Obama is an enigma but one studly dude. I'm glad that correct incantations helps Yahweh keep me straight.
John Boehner is an enema.
No, Johnny B is where you GIVE an enema!
Herron I read that and spit out my cocktail laughing so hard! (But aint it the truth!)
Obama is a lying POS and is gleefully subverting the whole negotiating process so he can raise taxes on everyone, then blame it on the GOP...
Whatever! At this point the r's last best deal is the Senate bill and it's take it or leave it time, or a cliff diving we will go. Wheeeeeeee. Sometimes, the only way to teach a stubborn dog, is to hit it in its snout.
Whats the big deal the tax breaks were temporay anyway. Its time we go back to the Clinton era tax rates and spending?
otm sometimes the only way to learn is hit the bottom. then and only then can you work your way up. maybe we should have deep spending cuts. then all the soakers will have to get out of bed and get to work like most of us do
Most of those soakers are in states that went for Mitt. Let them secede and solve a big part of our deficit problem,
hey guy. first you have to get out of bed to succeed. you know as well as i, that most losers voted for the big o. if your getting free @!$%# why would you go with mitt. i own a apt complex, you want to tell me about let them succeed. you should see how friggin lazy these people are. sleep all day party all night and @!$%#ing late on there rent that they get from section 8. go ahead and tell me bigshot
The GOP was cocky and sure they would win the Wh and get a Senate Majority in NOV.
Then REALITY hit when they lost the WH, and a number of seats in the Seante and House.
Now all they can do is whine and run around like chickens with their heads cut off, because THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!
I don't think that they were that sure they would win. They are doing what they were elected to do. Force Obama to follow through with his promise to create a balanced plan. The people of the US don't trust Obama any more than they trust the republicans.
That's all you have, ignore the facts and call everyone paranoid. Then when the 401k bill passes, you will say you never saw it coming. I've seen it over and over again this year, that libtard deer-in-the-headlights look. 75% of daily/liquidity and volume now provided by Liberty 33. Don't comment on matters you know nothing about. Ah h3ll, you probably don't work, don't drive a car, don't own a home and blogging from Momma's basement.
The Dow was 8k when Obama took office, and 13k today.
Under GW, many 401ks lost as much as 40% of their value.
Obama got the MAJORITY vote (more than GW ever did) and there was a landslide in the EC.
YOU LOST! Please act like a mature adult about it!
And yet nearly all the BUsh years were better than the Obama years and it took 6 years for the dow to break even after the democrats took control of writing policy. It still doesn't matter. The people of Greece voted for the same policies that brought about their destruction. We don't seem to be any different.
And the DOw is up because corporate profits are up. Corporate profits are up because of layoffs, not because of top-line growth!
That's the real problem. Obama's policies have NOT encouraged hiring or maintaining the workforce. They have forced companies to improve profitability through layoffs.
It's a fascade!
while Democratic and Republican leaders on Capitol Hill labored through what would normally be a relaxing holiday weekend. according to msn
and im suppose to feel sorry for these pukes we elect. get the job done @!$%#s!!!
WE have started a petition to remove everyone if a deal can't be reached. Feel free to sign here
This guy never misses a photo op to push his face in front of the American people. I remember when he came to the Space Center...wouldn't let any of the space workers in for his "I support the space program" photo op...brought in his own people to stand in the background...then he cut the space program, put our space workers out on the street, and now our astronauts fly into space on vehicles even the Russian scientists no longer believe are safe. He's a do nothing except exalt himself president. He has no more leadership ability to solve this crisis than the man in the moon. He just doesn't really care and all you who voted for him have been taken for a ride. The rich aren't going to be hurt by going over the fiscal cliff...they have their money stashed away in safe havens and their wealth has even increased 10% during the Obama years...it's the American middle class, both dems and repubs, that will continue its decline. I truly despise this guy...and this good for nothing congress. Wise up America get rid of all incumbents...they don't work for the people...they work for whoever greases their sleezy palms.
So why does the Orange One just appear drunk, lost, and confused on camera??
The GOP LOST in NOV. That's reality! The VOTERS favored Obama and his position, especially on this!
No the American people lost! The dems (like you) think winning is to beat the repubs. The repubs think winning is beating the dems. The country is split and if you're a dem you supposed to hate the repubs and vice versa. They don't care about you. Get it. You are just a mindless pawn spewing what they want you to say. We are the classic "house divided against itself" and are suffering the consequences. Start being an independent thinker and throw these bums out on the street so they can join the rest of struggling America.
You are wrong about the space program. In 2004 it was GWB who decided that funding would be cut for NASA following that, the agency couldn't get its act together to to present a better case for its future resulting in the winding down of certain programs. New technologies have also changed some of these older projects. But to state that President Obama cut the space program is just not true, those decisions were made long before he decided to run for President, it takes a long time to wind down such a large program. Now there are new plans for exploration in unmanned craft that require a smaller number of workers, one of them is to Mars.
President Obama has been very supportive of NASA earlier this year threatened to veto a bill out of the House calling for more cuts than funding he requested.
www.space.com/15595-nasa-budget-cuts-president-obama-vet...
Mr. Oblama we need you to be a leader.
If he were as great as he claims he would have brought us together, not divided us.
You either get the job done, or you don't.
He didn't.
If a deal is done he takes credit.
If a deal is not done he blames others.
Such a guy we all work for.
National Polls are showing that if the cliff is reached, the GOP has 40% of the blame, and the dems 5%.
That's reality, little grasshopper!
Who the f*** cares who's the blame. Does it make you feel better to recite a poll number. We're all going over the fiscal cliff in our raft of poll numbers. Where's the leaderhip? Go see the movie Lincoln...(a repub by the way)...he didn't come to a solution by pointing his finger and placing blame. Obama has no ability to lead...he only knows how to do a photo op.
Herron, so who has the other 55% of the blame?
I'm surprised Blunderdog came back from Hawaii, but, it's all for show anyway. The libtards will find out in 2013 that it actually does matter to be informed about their voting choices. Voting for the person who promises you the most but has always delivered the least will eventually work its magic into the voting booth. So, the libtards need some shock therapy and going off the cliff gives them a few jolts of their needed medicine, big deal. The loss of tax revenue as protest result for the achievement tax will crush the entitlement state, welfare, medicaid, food stamps, and the 47% will eventually come out of ether. It will take some time, they are an ignorant lot, but the end script has already been written. You are the fools.
You do realize that a lot of red states take more from the feds than they give. Let them secede.
That simply is not true. Most red states are net contributors to the national government and have more solid economies. Blue states like California and New York receive far more funds from the federal govt than they contribute.
Guy..I WISH to HELL that the RED states would succede..That would leave a great big chunk of North America as their very own 'welfare state"..ALL of New england across to michigan and back to New York..{You can keep California too, we dont need dick suckers in our country}Like it or not, those Big cities" up north are dependant on what those "southern RED states" provide..Where do you think the natural gas and timber and coal and food comes from??? WalMart??..News flash..Its from those HARD WORKING sons and daughter and mothers and fathers in those sorry RED states that are the BACKBONE of this country..I wish we would succede, then we'd have something that you BLUE states will NEVER have..A MORAL country again!!! and I'd be standing on the border at the New York line, tossing left over chicken bones across just to see you scramble like the bunch of cock roaches that you are..
Ron pisses and moans a lot. Must be a wonderful husband and father. Sheesh.
Yes. As a matter of fact I am awonderful husband and father...because I fight, as is my right to fight, for a better America for my children and I bet they are alot more successful than you. And I've probably been married longer than you've been living. So piss on you. And go moan in your lonely room with your cheap computer.
You're an ass
No more unemployment extensions beyond the customary 26 weeks!! Let a few of these f**king people starve to death if they can't find a job in six months! I'll bet the rest will manage to find work.
You fine you Christian! Or is it fine young cannibal?
What is so funny to me is that people often bitch that an elected president does NOT do what he campaigned on... well, it seems that this president is at least trying to. He campaigned on a balanced solution to our fiscal problems and we, the people reelected him to do just that. Those who stand in the way need to be swept away by us, the people. The economy is still recovering so a blend of revenue and cuts are needed. Every independent analyst has stated as much and yet we still see some politicians trying to hold onto proposals that don't add up. Should we go over the cliff, the obstructionists will pay a heavy price come the next election and it may be drastic enough to render the Republican party obsolete.
So tell us what the "balanced" solution is that he's proposing?? He's WANTING 800 BILLION in NEW spending and willing to CUT 300 BILLION..So you consider THAT a balanced approach???
Tell you what, lets trade...I'll trade MY 3 dollars for every 8 dollars YOU have..That's a balanced approach that will keep you staying in the game...right?
@ "Independent"- YOUR president isn't offering a balanced approach; just more spending and a symbolic tax increase to appease folks such as yourself- the class envy/warfare types. Seems to me, he talked smart at one point, demanding $1 in tax increases for every $3 in spending cuts. Where's the spending cuts? YOUR president seems to very poor at keeping promises, but quite good at talking smack.
Obama will enact legislation to "lock down" your 401k and other retirement plans, then suspend all help to the markets, causing a free fall of 50% to 60%. He does not like wealth, (except for his own) and means to crush your monetary assets into oblivion. If you have investments in the markets, you will suffer great financial pain.
And I'll bet you think he's going to get a 3rd term too right?
Urban: hahahahahhaahhahaaha What a dope! I love reading the mindless, BS, conspiracy theories, you right wing crazies dream up! The aliens are coming for you and they were sent by Obama! Right??!!?? hahahahahahaha Geezzzzzzz. If you people get any crazier.............
The Dow was 8k when Obama took office, and 13k today.
Under GW, many 401ks lost as much as 40% of their value.
Obama got the MAJORITY vote (more than GW ever did) and there was a landslide in the EC.
YOU LOST! Please act like a mature adult about it!
Did Safeway have a sale on tinfoil this week? JEEZUZ!
The fat lady hasn't sung yet. The dow is where it's at because there is no place for the wealthy to put their money since bonds and interest rate yields are at all time lows. The real unemployment rate is 16-18% and is higher today than when Obama took office. People have given up finding work and these people are no longer counted. We are holding on by our fingernails. It's time for true leadership to step forward and lead. You are the one who needs to act like an adult and quote rational facts. Not point fingers and tell people to shut up. If you had courage you would tell all our elected officials (repubs and dems) to shut up and lead.
So once again, this dunce has got time to parade himself on TV (a liberal program no less), but no time to pull Reid and Boehner together and meet face to face. More blame and politics. This tool just can get his face on TV enough.
Bottom line it needs to be passed..why isnt it? The one who didnt get elected said hed stop this from passing..Moneybags dont want to give up 5 cents much less pay more taxes or any other rich person..arent the middle and lower class suffering enough.
You are factually challenged. IF you took ALL the money from ALL the rich in this country, it would not pay for what was spent in the last 2 years by our government. It may make you feel better but it is truly nothing in the grand scheme of things. You want more tax revenue you need more tax payers. To get more taxpayers you need more jobs...just look at the unemployment rate. Keystone, coal, gas, oil, small business, large business, cut government jobs, IRS, go with a flat tax of 10% with no deductions for anything. Then you will get revenue. Now, explain to me how taking money out of the economy will generate jobs. I worked for a company that laid off half the work force and said they needed to shrink to grow. That is what our government is trying to do with the economy. Shrink jobs and grow the economy by raising taxes. Does that REALLY make sense to you?
