Obama to task Biden to tackle gun violence after Newtown shootings

As funerals are held for four more Sandy Hook Elementary victims, President Obama will announce that Vice President Biden will spearhead a panel to formulate gun policies in the aftermath of the Newtown tragedy. NBC's Craig Melvin reports.

President Barack Obama is launching an administration-wide effort to curb gun violence, underscoring the growing political consensus over tightening gun restrictions following the horrific elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

Obama is tasking Vice President Joe Biden, a longtime gun control advocate, with spearheading the effort.

In remarks from the White House on Wednesday, Obama will outline a process for pursuing policy changes following the school shooting, though he is not expected to call for specific measures.

Vice President Joe Biden

The president has vowed to use "whatever power this office holds" to safeguard the nation's children after Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.

Twenty children and six adults were killed at the school by a gunman carrying an arsenal of ammunition and a high-powered, military-style rifle.

NBC's Tom Brokaw discusses what kind of scar the Newtown tragedy leaves on the nation and whether this massacre will be the tipping point in the gun control debate.

Sending 'sympathy and love': Newtown's agony echoes in Scottish town

The incident has prompted several congressional gun rights supporters to consider new legislation to control firearms.

Many pro-gun lawmakers also have called for a greater focus on mental health issues and the impact of violent entertainment.

Obama also prefers a holistic approach, with aides saying stricter gun laws alone are not the answer.

The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd discusses the difficulties of implementing gun control laws with Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia.

Hero teacher Victoria Soto to be buried: 'She loved those students more than anything'

"It's a complex problem that requires more than one solution," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday. "It calls for not only re-examining our gun laws and how well we enforce them, but also for engaging mental health professionals, law enforcement officials, educators, parents and communities to find those solutions."

Still, much of the immediate focus after the shooting is on gun control, an issue that has been dormant in Washington for years. Obama expended little political capital on gun issues during his first term, despite several mass shootings, including a movie theater attack in Aurora, Colo., in the midst of this year's presidential campaign.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., shares her reaction to the mass shooting in Newtown and talks about the future of gun control legislation in Washington, D.C.

Obama's push on gun violence begins to take shape

The White House has begun to signal that Obama may be more proactive on gun issues following the murders of the elementary school youngsters, ages 6 and 7.

Carney said Obama was "actively supportive" of legislation to reinstate a ban on assault-style weapons that expired in 2004.

The president long has supported a ban, but exerted little effort to get it passed during his first term.

Obama also would support closing a gun-show loophole allowing people to buy arms from private dealers without background checks and would be interested in legislation limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines, Carney said.

God bless the Newtown shooting victims. The second amendment should have been trumped by their right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". I do not want to go to work or school only to be shot dead by an NRA members son.

What does that mean against the gov. ? U need a gun to defend against the gov. ? When in the history of the usa did individuals need guns to defend against the gov. ? One exception may be the civil war but that was over 150 yrs ago.

freedomfrys, MY GUNS, MY RIGHTS, MY FREEDOOM, is a reference towards what our forefathers wrote when they came up with the 2nd Amendment. My firearms are treated with the utmost respect. I use them on a regular basis for my enjoyment of hunting. But with saying that, I also have them for self preservation. Unless you are going to harm my family or myself, I feel you have no need to worry. I hope that explains what I meant by that statement. Have a Happy Holiday & to all on this vine!!!

In all the widely-publicized shootings from the past 2 decades (Columbine, Nickel Mines, Aurora and CT), none of the shooters have been members of the NRA. It's sad that some sick individuals would use this tragedy to try to push their political agenda. As soon as the tragedy broke, gun bans were the first thing mentioned; Not grieving, not assisting families in their time of need, not coming together, but instead, they started finger pointing at everyone except who was really responsible for the massacre, the mentally ill shooter. The liberals who have been looking for an excuse to eliminate guns were just waiting for something like this to happen so that they can get everyone to go along with a knee-jerk reaction to weaken the 2nd amendment. If you want to really try to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future, it's time to take common sense measures and focus on the cause (mental illness) not the method (guns) that causes people to do these things. Banning guns because of this shooting is like banning cars because of a drunk driver; you're punishing the 99.999% of responsible users because of one person's selfish actions. And for the record, it's nothing short of naivety to think that the shooter couldn't have done as much damage with the 2 pistols he had on him if he had not had the assault rifle. I do think that there needs to be more gun controls in place, but it needs to be a comprehensive, rational approach that addresses the real issues.

Hummmmmmmmmmm ... Are we having another "Knee Jerk" reaction? .... another chance for government to take away another liberty? .... Do we live in a "reactionary" culture?

This is about "Cultural Violence" ... not about guns! .... this issue is extremely complicated well beyond the right to bear arms ... and giving up individual right to bear arms, is not the answer.

I don't own a any guns .. yet I can understand the right to own any weapon ... when we live with a of government that seems intent on deceiving the population with regularity ... and removing our rights with deceit & impunity ......

Remember 911? ....... And the reaction..... The "Patriot Act?" all sounded soooo good .. till our government began it's "Draconian" interpretation of what it meant ... A loss of American Freedoms that had prevailed in our society for 200 years!

The inherent problem with any discussion of gun control is a simple fact for most Americans that think are thinking ... WE DON"T TRUST OUR GOVERNMENT ANYMORE!

When you return our liberties that you have taken away and show us the integrity that we deserve as citizens ... then and only then will you get enough consensus to discuss the issue ...

Absolutely agree that the tragedy in CT was a horrible, unblievable act. There was an article today that suggests that his mom was attempting to legally take control of him so that she could have him institutionalized- so maybe she was trying to do the best for his mental health and the public's safety. I ultimately believe that this is primarily an issue of mental illness, not weapons. The article suggest that he was believed his mother liked her education work more than him- so that lead him to killing her and taking revenge against schools. In the end I think he was going to kill her one way or the other. I don't know how she stored her weapons, but if he couldn't get them he might have run off like the father in China the same day with a machetti and done the same thing with that until stopped. I don't think he would have just given up because he couldn't have a gun.

On the Biden gun control topic, just wow. Clearly the President is putting out the most provocative guy he can and stay a step off the topic. We all know Biden- he's going to come out insighting and yelling and when anyone tries to suggest anything different then what he's going to spout he's going to scream louder to the media that they believe in hate. I shudder to think how the media is going to enjoy this. I think Biden is going to go for an all or nothing plan to do as much damage to gun ownership as possible, villify legal gun owners and organizations, and attempt to use the masses against them. Not happy about this one.

These horrible acts can still be committed with any tool availible to man. Taking away our rights will not solve a thing. The real crime here is that the mother allowed access of a MENTALLY CHALLANGED individual to these guns. Why are so many people blaming the NRA, by the way I'm not member but I do own several firearms. I have yet to hear anyone mention the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Why is the NRA the root of all evil, does it make some people feel better having a place to direct their anger. The NRA did not send out any of these crazies to commit these terrible acts, just like more gun control is not going to solve a thing.

It is time to change the rules. We have been playing by the NRA's rules up till now. It is a new game now.

New rule. All firearms capable of loading more than 10 rounds of ammunition are now assault weapons. Clear and simple. Assault weapons need to be regulated like cars. Registration, license, insurance, inspections, etc.

One thing for sure, when you absolutely do not care if anything gets done, put Biden in charge. Obama could have had everything he claims he wants now during his first two years when the Democrats owned both Houses of Congress. Obama ran on gun control during his first campaign and since then has signed legislation to allow guns in our national parks and on Amtrak. But the reality on the assault weapons ban is that Obama didn't have enough support from his own party to get it passed, much like every budget proposal he has put forth. As if Congress can actually write a bill that will have an impact, gun manufacturers will find ways around any new law, just like they did the last time.

MY GUNS, MY RIGHTS, MY FREEDOM does not supersede MY LIFE or the lives of anybody else. I have no problem with people like you shooting your guns UNTIL you point them at me.

So, in 1994 they instituted a ban on certain types of guns. In 2004 it was allowed to sunset because, according to the Police Chief's of America" THE BAN HAD ABSOLUTELY NO AFFECT ON CRIME INCLUDING GUN VIOLENCE.

In China they do not allow anyone to have guns (well except the military which has killed 64+ MILLION of it population since they took them away). On the same day as the school incident 20 school children were stabbed and maimed by someone with a knife. There goes your argument that eliminating guns stops violence.

Then what are you going to do about the 10's of thousands that are killed by CARS every year. What about drunk drivers?

This whole thing is about CONTROL. PERIOD.

Think about this one as well. ALL of the recent mass shootings happened in areas where GUNS WERE FORBIDDEN!!!!

My son is on the gun "control" issue right now. I showed him an article out of Utah where a pastor STOPPED A CHURCH/HOME INVASION with his pistol. The person would not respond at all until he saw the laser sight shining on his chest. I asked my son "Why did he choose that place?" His response surprised even him, "Probably because he thought there was not anyone there WITH A GUN."

This happens all the time, EVERY DAY. So don't go telling me or all of the families that have been saved by dads and moms that have and know how to use a gun. Taking them away is NOT going to solve the issue.

Try this experiment: Put a gun on the counter. You call me when, of its OWN volition it shoots someone.

Should I go on with many other incidences that show that guns do not cause violence?

310 million privately owned guns, in a population of 314 million. Doing anything related to banning sales or restricting magazine capacities is tempered by the fact that so many high capacity magazines and assault rifles are already widely dispersed amongst the population.

Further, the mental health issue is not easily dealt with. For every person that is labeled unstable, there are likely dozens more that are not easily identified. How easy would it be to prove or disprove mental stability in a court of law?

Societal issues feed this mess. We have far too many individuals that claim they "fear their government". The variety of reasons cited for the fear are as varied as the individuals involved, making it difficult to find a way to address the issue...still, if a conversation could take place that at least tried to address identified commonly referenced sources of the stated fear, it may lead to some alleviation.

The promiscuity that is so prominent in our society is a huge factor. When couples, couple, and babies are born to single mothers...all sorts of problems begin. The abdication of responsibility on the part of the fathers is tragic. I seem to read a lot of articles that place much of the blame for mixed up kids on the shoulders of the single mother but absent fathers are really at the heart of the matter. As a father of two wonderful adult children, I have trouble relating to males that turn their backs on their progeny. These people are not truly men, they are opportunists looking to sate themselves regardless of the consequences. Being a father, not just being a sperm donor but really being a father, raising the kids you produce is the single most important thing anyone can ever do. I don't care how high you rise in your profession, or how great you think any other accomplishment you achieve is, NOTHING will ever eclipse the importance of raising your children, they are your legacy, they reflect you in the way they lead their lives.

Gun owners and the NRA in particular could go some distance in trying to work with society in constructive ways to do something to try to make this better but with so many weapons already in private ownership, gun control laws enacted now, which could never be retroactive, are like closing the barn door after the horse has left.

As the article states, this is a complex issue and laws cannot address every issue. Gun ownership is a right, and guns for hunting, target shooting, home defense have always been part of who we are as a nation and should remain so, but what about those 20 children and those brave teachers, what about the 10 or 11 thousand people slaughtered each year in the United States? What about mental illness, promiscuity, absent fathers, single mothers?

How do we address all of these issues in ways that are meaningful so that we make a positive difference? It seems an insurmountable task.

Obama and his cadre like that smeagol looking troll Finestein... are using this tragedy and others to push their agenda at the expense of millions of gun owners. To all those spouting anti NRA crap, you really should educate yourself a bit more before spewing excrement from your orifices. The NRA trains police officers as one of it's many facets. They also have a childrens firearm saftey course called "Eddy Eagle". If more kids were tought proper handling and use their would be much less problems. To those of us that grew up using them, they are nothing more than a tool that needs to be respected for the damage it can cause. To all the kids that haven't been around them and to the hood rats, they have a view of them that is based on movies and gang bangers. There is a story, right here on MSNBC that stated that the murder rate FELL by 50% since 1993. This is coupled with the fact that their are more firearms in this country than EVER before. When guns are outlawed...only outlaws will have guns. Thank god for the foresight of our forefathers and the gifts of the US Constitution. Hopefully the gaggle of lawyers that are running this country won't be able to change that document.

2. Impose a mandatory 30 day waiting period on hand guns and 7 day on hunting guns even at gun shows

3. DON'T impose the # of rounds in a magazine , DON'T limit how much ammo a person can buy.

These are typically blood alcohol content limits for the operation of a vehicle. In the United States, the legal limit can vary by state but for all states as of 2011 is 0.08% blood alcohol content as measured by a breath device, urinalysis or blood test. This legal limit is down from 0.15% just a few decades previously. -- wiki

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are more than 23,000 deaths related to alcohol each year that are not traffic fatalities or homicides, and 14,406 of those are caused by alcoholic liver disease.(2) Adding these totals to just the total number of drunk driving fatalities alone and we can see that nearly 47,000 deaths occur as a result of these alcohol related causes alone.

I'm 100% for making changes to help those with mental issues, as any weapon in the hands of a deranged person can be deadly. You can ban assault weapons and magazine with more than 10 bullets; I really don't care either way, but anyone can still walk into an elementary school with four 9mm guns with 10 round clips and kill 20 innocent children. You can load and reload a clip in seconds.

I can't help but think what the liberal mantra is: Rahm Emanuel: "never let a crisis go to waste".

That thought makes me sick for some reason.

It's not guns, it's not video games, it's not rap music; it's mental illness. That where the focus should be. On top of that, any gun owner who leaves guns out of a safe or without locks should be help culpable. If this woman had thsoe guns locked in a safe or had gun locks, something else might have occurred but maybe not to this extent.

Instead of tackling gun control, tackle school security. The security is the problem here, if that school was prepared to defend itself against crazies and terrorist, the death toll would have been lower. We need a security that is second to none at the schools; without turning the school into a fortress. Guns have been around for a long time, nutcases can appear at random to do harm with whatever is at their disposal. Let's not play politics here, target the lack of security. That nutcase got away with his ways, because no one fought back.

If they are going to have any hope at all of getting rid of the guns, they are going to have to - HAVE TO - secure the Mexican border. You will never be able to enforce any contraband laws so long as we have borders like Swiss Cheese.

Look to the war on drugs to see just how well "Banning" something works in this country. There are approximately 2700 illegals crossing the border EVERY day. If 10% of them bring 1 gun with them to sell on the black market that's 98,000 illegal, unregistered guns being put on the street every year.

And in order to address the problem of Mental Illness there needs to be a way to subsidize mental health care for those who need it. As well as a way to force adults to continue treatment and take medication before they pose a risk to themselves or others.

The gun violence problem will never be solved unless both parties bend in their platform. Democrats will have to give on immigration and Republicans will have to allow for subsidized mental health care. Neither party is willing to do that and so the problem will remain unsolved.

This is a false flag and people are falling for it. The government is capable of ANYTHING! Children were killed at WACO! Google 16 year old us citizen assassinated! The adminstrations "official" response? Alwaki should have "had a more responsible father" if he didn't want to be killed> REALLY? THAT'S OBAMA's RESPONSE!!? He's guilty for his father's actions?

Gun owners and the NRA in particular could go some distance in trying to work with society in constructive ways to do something to try to make this better

That is what the PRIMARY goal of NRA and all other gun advocating organizations (GOA et al) IS. It is such a TOTAL SHAME that they have to spend so much in the way of finanacial and human resources DEFENDING those whose rights are being or intend to be infringed on. Those organizations don't want to look like the "bad guys." They want to teach, help and mentor people of all ages on the SAFE and PROPER way to own and use a gun.

I was speaking with a US Citizen that teaches English in China. Many of her students were discussing guns and remembering when they had so much fun out hunting with their grandfathers. Too bad the next generations won't have that memory. Their only memories will be a government that TOOK AWAY THEIR GUNS AND THEN SLAUGHTERED THEM.

You want to know what we fear: THAT is the main one I think. Government is NOT our friend. That is why that grand, and yes old, document the CONSTITUTION (remember that piece of paper?) was written the way it was. Some have said it is out dated and needs to be updated. Why? It is perfect already. The only ones that want to change it are those that believe our government does not have enough power. Well, check out all the countries where government has ALL POWER. Not a pretty sight.

We are supposed to have a LIMITED power. For decades now the federal government has become a power hungry pig. That is what we are afraid of. Patriot act, NAFTA, NDAA, GMO approvals and non labeling of them..... on and on and on. They do not care about us any longer. Guns are just an excuse to push their agenda further.

Here is something to take home. Put yourself in the position of a home invasion. An man (or woman, don't want to be sexist you know) gets into your house. They are a criminal. They do not obey the rules. THEY have a semi automatic, high capacity gun. If they take away our rights to a similar weapon HOW DO YOU DEFEND YOURSELF AGAINST THAT? Not with the police. THEY are NOT in your house to defend you. THEY are minutes or even hours away in some cases.

Our owning guns will NOT eliminate violence. Being able to have guns in areas that are traditionally NO GUN ZONES (like ALL of the most recent mass shootings have been and 90+% of the rest) would certainly mitigate the situation though.

Due to your bantor about gun control, America is arming itself more so than ever before in history so even if you do pass some bogus law through legislation taking away the rights of Americans you won't be able to take the guns out of our hands, you're too late!!

Let's see just how stupid these people will get. The kid could have done it with a 9mm and a bunch of clips from California. He could have done it with a knife. The FACT is that there was no one on campus to stop him, how many tragedies like theses have been stopped by a carry conceal killing the shooter before he kill more people? If every adult had a concealed weapon no one would ever try anything remotely like this. These Dems need to look at this like intelligent people and THINK about it, not just like kids in a candy store of legislation that furthers their liberal agenda.

The 2nd Amendment right to own SOME firearms WILL BE protected.

There is no right to own: mortars, hand-grenades, mines, artillery, and other such MILITARY weaponry. Among such are assault styled weapons and (esp.) large capacity magazines.

None of the 2nd Amendment absolutists have made (or, can make) a reasonable argument defending the public's right to own assault-style weapons and large capacity magazines. They weakly argue about collectors. But, their main (often hidden) argument is their various conspiratorial fears that they will need such weapons to use against our government. Seditious intent is no argument.

Rational conservatives realize recent events warrant a renewal of the ban on assault weapons. It is now only the irrational militia types and Chicken-Little survivalists that still oppose such a ban. Even the NRA understands things must change.

We can no longer afford to pay heed to the fringe loonies in our society.

rightwing - I think that was a misreport. Not that it's easy to know because of all the false information that came out when the media was rushing to get the story out without fact-checking. Falls into the same category as the mother being found in the school, the brother being killed in Hoboken and that Ryan Lanza (it was Adam) was the shooter.

The rifle was first reported to have been used, then retracted, and then the retraction was retracted. But the last I heard, he did in fact use the rifle along with the two handguns.

The previous Federal Assault Weapons ban did not stop the Columbine massacre. The Federal Ban of 1994 included the TEC-9 and TEC-9DC which the latter was used at Columbine in 1999.

They are using this incident in a renewed effort to get more control, but they fail to realize, it didn't work before, and will not work now.

There are laws against Heroin and Meth, but is that stopping the use?

Ian - technically the reason behind the 2nd amendment was because the forefathers never wanted the American people to be at the mercy of a corrupt and unjust government again. It was intended as part of the "checks and balances" that the American people would be as well armed as the US Army so that no despotic ruler would be able to turn the military on the people and oppress them ever again.

However this was written long long ago when the best weapon available was a musket and the biggest weapon of mass destruction available was a cannon.

Clearly the American People are outgunned already by the military. There is no way we can ever defend ourselves against fighter jets, tanks, drone missles, etc. So the purpose for the amendment is clearly moot at this point.

The bigger problem with an outright ban is that it will not work. Mexico has much stricter gun laws than we do, how's that working out for them? Have the Cartels stopped shooting people?

But, their main (often hidden) argument is their various conspiratorial fears that they will need such weapons to use against our government. Seditious intent is no argument.

An American is responsible to the U.S. Constitution, not the U.S. Government. It is this simple reversal of logic that makes you a liberal.

Sedition is not sedition at all if the Government is violating your rights. The entire Bill of Rights is set up as a countermeasure against our own Government. Why do you think its always mentioned, when other countrys (i.e. Egypt) are preparing Constitutions without a Bill of Rights, its considered pointless?

Did you think the 3rd Amendment was to keep other Governments from quartering their troops in your home?

The entire Bill of Rights, through and through, is defense against our own Government. This includes the 2nd Amendment.

I thought Joe "Robinette" Biden (yes, that's his real middle name) was our foreign policy guru. I guess he decided not to play in that area anymore after the Benghazi report came out. I'm sure the Constitution hating Liberals/Progressives will just throw together some meaningless legislation like they did in 1994 to pacify their emotional response to all problems. Of course no meaningful effect was ever seen with the assault weapons ban.

But that's OK. In Liberal LaLa Land it doesn't matter if any policy works or not, it just matters that someone cares, someone is passionate about it. Typical Liberal mentality, symbolism over substance.

      #1.70 - Wed Dec 19, 2012 10:50 AM EST

We let emotions trump logic. In an emotional state we allowed the Patriot Act, a massive give away of constitutionally protected rights, to be implemented. Since it was enacted only 1% of all spying on American citizens has been related to terrorism.

Again in an emotional state, this country is considering yet another massive give away of our rights. We've tried it before with the AWB in the "90's, and it didn't do anything to limit gun violence. It won't work this time either.

The root cause of all crime is explained by several theories on criminology, none of which indicate guns as being the cause of crime. Guns are a tool used by some criminals, and yes banning ALL guns would reduce gun violence. But short of banning and confiscating ALL guns, arbitrary bans on certain types of weapons are illogical, unnecessary violations of the constitution which do nothing to limit gun violence.

Much like a doctor treats the disease and not the symptom, society should address the root causes of crime and not make rash, emotional decisions every time a new symptom emerges.

The 2nd Amendment does not specify a caliber or weapon style. The intent of the 2nd amendment is to allow the people the means to stand up against a tyrannical government. Protection against home invasions and mass killers is an added bonus. "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed", means it shall not be infringed. ANY LAW limiting the ownership of ANY WEAPON is infringing upon my rights as a U.S. Citizen. According to the intent of the law, I should be allowed to own and maintain mortars, tanks, grenades and even nuclear warheads! Could they have forseen the invention of the Atom bomb? Probably not, so I'm with ya on that one. I'm nearly certain they would have included a nuclear arms clause in the amendment. Our beloved bureaucratic elected idiots are becoming more and more power hungry every day. We are on the cusp of tyrannical at this very moment. We have Police officers shooting unarmed civilians and busting in doors of innocent families nearly everyday. We have international UN "peacekeepers" standing outside our polling stations. The liberals demand identification and background checks to purchase a weapon but protest against the same requirements to vote. YOU are the ignorant "loonie" in our society, Ian Emdee. You want our government to install a ban on assault weapons? The same government that delivered thousands of them to Mexican drug cartels? The government that purposefully detonated nuclear weapons upwind of small Nevada towns so the could study the affects of radiation fallout on American Citizens? The same government that just condemned 4 Americans to death in Behnghazi and tried to lie to the American people because it wouldn't look good politically? The same government that tested psychotropic drugs on unwitting soldiers? MK Ultra, The Tuskegee experiments, 1975
The virus section of Fort DetrickÕs Center for Biological Warfare Research is renamed the Fredrick Cancer Research Facilities and placed under the supervision of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It is here that a special virus cancer program is initiated by the U.S. Navy, purportedly to develop cancer-causing viruses. It is also here that retro-virologist isolate a virus to which no immunity exists. It is

Senate hearings on Health and Scientific Research confirm that 239 populated areas had been contaminated with biological agents between 1949 and 1969. Some of the areas included San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Key West, Panama City, Minneapolis, and St. Louis.

First cases of AIDS are confirmed in homosexual men in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, triggering speculation that AIDS may have been introduced via the Hepatitis B vaccine.

      1985
According to the journal Science (227:173-177), HTLV and VISNA, a fatal sheep virus, are very similar, indicating a close taxonomic and evolutionary relationship.

      1986
According to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (83:4007-4011), HIV and VISNA are highly similar and share all structural elements, except for a small segment which is nearly identical to HTLV. This leads to speculation that HTLV and VISNA may have been linked to produce a new retro virus to which no natural immunity exists. A report to Congress reveals that the U.S. Government's current
generation of biological agents includes: modified viruses, naturally occurring toxins, and agents that are altered through genetic engineering to change immunological character and prevent treatment by all existing vaccines.

With a technique called 'gene tracking,' Dr. Garth Nicolson at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. discovers that many returning Desert Storm veterans are infected with an altered strain of Mycoplasma incognitus, a microbe commonly used in the production of biological weapons. Incorporated into its molecular structure is 40 percent of the HIV protein coat, indicating that it had been man-made.
Senator John D. Rockefeller issues a report revealing that for at least 50 years the Department of Defense has used hundreds of thousands of military personnel in human experiments and for intentional exposure to dangerous substances. Materials include mustard and nerve gas, ionizing radiation, psycho chemicals, hallucinogens, and drugs used during the Gulf War.

      1995
U.S. Government admits that it had offered Japanese war criminals and scientists who had performed human medical experiments salaries and immunity from prosecution in exchange for data on biological warfare research. Dr. Garth Nicolson, uncovers evidence that the biological agents used during the Gulf War had been manufactured in Houston, Tx. and Boca Raton, FL. And tested on prisoners in the Texas Department of Corrections.

      1996
Department of Defense admits that Desert Storm soldiers were exposed to chemical agents.

Blaming guns for killing people is as stupid as blaming the car when some drunk kills a family with it. More people are killed every year by drunk drivers than are killed by guns, but I don't see a ban on alcohol, or cars. In Texas it's a second degree felony to point a gun at someone, yet it's only a class B misdemeanor to to point a 4,000 lb. killing machine at everyone on the road. Wake up people, the problem is not guns it's people. People are the problem.

Glad to know there is mounting support for banning all assault weapons in the US.

Heard yesterday on the news that a family member of one of the slain children said that some of the families are already talking about organizing an effort to enforce stricter gun laws.

It is heart-breaking that it takes a tragedy of this magnitude to finally take action about this.

The aunt of the killer's dead mother said that the reason the mother had five assault weapons in her home was because she was a single woman and needed protection.

Hmmm .... wonder if a security system, a barking dog, a small handgun in her nightstand drawer, and a cell phone to call 911 would have worked?

Was she expecting an army of intruders?

She lived with a 20-year-old son that she knew was mentally disturbed with anti-social behavior and yet she taught him the fun hobby of shooting assault weapons?

I wonder if she should have taught him tennis, or chess, or golf, or horseback riding instead?

I wonder how many children he would have been able to kill with a golf club? Even if she had taught him knife-throwing, he would not have been able to kill 20 children and 6 teachers in TWO MINUTES.

Not even that guy in China that stabbed 22 children, killed any of them.

I have owned a gun and enjoy target shooting, but I say

I think that one of the first things we need to do is revamp our school security systems nation wide. A good beginning would be to install an electronic lock down system with an alarm in every class room, gym, & cafeteria in all schools. Each school employee could be given a device similar to the one worn by many of our elderly in the event of a fall or other emergency. With the simple click of a button any one of them could initiate a total lock down of the entire school in an emergency. Obviously this will cost, but I think it would be less costly long term than placing an armed guard in every school & probably should be part of any security plan anyway. If all the doors in a school were to lock simultaneously the ability of a gunman or any dangerous person to move about freely would be seriously restricted.

However this is also about life and death and the value of the human life, the "progressive" group who are the ones that desensitise our society giving zero value to an unborn child ."The president has vowed to use "whatever power this office holds" to safeguard the nation's children " is all over the media, but here we have the Abortionist in Chief who support a piece of legislation in is own state of Illinois giving the right to a mother to kill his own born child is it was in a procedure of late term abortion, and now he pretend to care about child's. Hypocrisy at large from the left.

      Hi Scooter, Midnightridr -

I will never understand why, after the first school shooting years ago, teachers who were qualified were not allowed to have a firearm in locked, secure safe in case of emergencies.

There have been too many school shootings and these fools think a legal ban on guns will stop an illegal assault on schools or a business or a public venue? Oh, yeah...

Beam me up, Scotty, no intelligent life here......

Please... allow me to remind anyone who did not read the articles about the professor (female) in Huntsville, AL who shot up the faculty there.... she was also suspected of sending pipe bombs to other faculty in Massachusetts she was angry with. They just didn't want to pursue it and quietly sent her on her way. Damn Yankees.

      Connecticut is 4th in the nation for strict gun control laws. So I thought stuff like this should happen there... {sarcasm}

Notice how the media and anti-gun politicians immediately jumped on this, (Behavior typical of all scavengers...), while the pro-gunners stepped back to give respect to those who had their loved ones lives violently stolen from them.

Oh wait! This is just like NYC, Chicago, et al. Take the guns away from the LAW ABIDING CITIZENS so the criminals on both sides of the fence, (thugs and cops), can rob and rape us. Sure the cops and courts will still go after the other criminals, but do you realize that prisons are actually traded on Wall Street? Go check that one out! And that the cops and judges retirement funds are invested in these entities? Oh wait. isn't that called "a conflict of interest?"

Get a clue the 2nd A is NOT about hunting. It IS about personal defense from invaders, (criminals), BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.

      An interesting read:

      Issues:Gun Ownership

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. - The United States Constitution, Amendment 2

There exists a large section of the population that seems confused about the second amendment. They argue that it is not a personal right, but rather the right of a state to operate it's own security force. They argue that this force today is called the State Guard.

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, ... , keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, ... - The United States Constitution, Article 1 Section 10

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;... - The United States Constitution, Article 2 Section 2 Clause 1

Since Article 1 Section 10 says that no state may have it's own troops without the consent of Congress, but Article 2 Section 2 Clause 1 says that the President is the Commander in Chief of the militias of the several states when called into service, the two cannot possibly be the same thing. The Constitution would not use two different terms for the same thing, in one section prohibiting it and in the other declaring the command of it.

In addition to its National Guard, if any, a State, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, Guam, or the Virgin Islands may, as provided by its laws, organize and maintain defense forces. A defense force established under this section may be used within the jurisdiction concerned, as its chief executive (or commanding general in the case of the District of Columbia) considers necessary, but it may not be called, ordered, or drafted into the armed forces. - United States Code 32 Section 109(c)

The State Guard system was established, with the consent of Congress, with the passing of Title 32. This means that the State Guard is not the militia, but the state troops referenced in Article 1 Section 10. Other people argue that the word "militia" is in reference to private citizens with arms. The only question is, is there any indication that is the case?

A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the People, being the best security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed, but no one religiously scrupulous of bearing arms, shall be compelled to render military service in person. - Article the Fifth, House of Representatives August 24 1789

This is the text of what would become Amendment 2, as it was passed by the United States House of Representatives in August of 1789. The version that know today was passed by the United States Senate on September 9 1789. The above version is clear, it is a personal right of the people.

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress; - The United States Constitution, Article 1 Section 8 Clause 16

When the militias are to be called into actual service, Congress has the power to organize and arm the parts of the militias called into service. Even in this situation, when called into actual official duty under command of the President of the United States, the Constitution clearly says that the states have the authority to train the militias, while Congress has the authority to set training standards for those who actually serve. No power exists over those who do not serve.

All federal, state, and local gun control laws are unconstitutional since they violate the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

It's a shame the principal or another administrator hadn't taken a gun course and licensed to carry. They locked the guy out, he shot his way through the locked doors and then the principal charged him. It would have been much easier to set up, take aim and shoot the gunmen when he walked through the hole in the door. In this instance it would have been easy as they plenty of time to wait for him. Other times it's so instantaneous in might not help; but it would have here.

Xina Saying a weaker opponent with mostly small arms could not prevail against a super power is FALSE.. Have you never heard of Vietnam or Afghanistan?? It is motivation and strategy that wins wars unless you go all the way to a slaughter of all the indigenous population like in biblical times when invaders killed every last man woman and child..

Those of you who are Po Pooing Biden forget he wrote the last ban bill for Clinton.. All it succeeded in doing was raise the prices of firearms and make a few liberal investors filthy rich.. Tackling the welfare state and disgusting moral standards in the inner cities seems to be a forgotten issue.. More people including children die each day from gang related and urban blight crimes then this sad event.. The politicians smell another tax like sharks smell blood.. They want insane taxes on guns and ammunition to feed their government employee entitlement disaster.. They did this in Ohio saying the lotto would be all for schools but they put it in the general fund and most of it goes to their retirement liability..

The NRA is not the boogie man but American citizens acting collectively for a cause just like your dear leader Obama touts as community organizing.. Why would any sane person throw their rights away and allow government to be all powerful?? Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves and would be disgusted at what America has become.. Billions of people living off the working people and moral standards in the gutter makes me sick and it would have sickened them.. Sick minds find ways to complete their tasks of evil and that has been pointed out numerous times.. You are being fooled into thinking one weapon is more dangerous than another.. 2 shotguns would have been far worse then the pistols and rifle in close quarters.. The SMLE bolt action rifle can be fired 30+ times in one minute using a cartridge that is several times more deadly then the .556 round.. A pointed stick could have been used or a machete have been used to kill entire villages in Africa.. It is not the weapon but the sick mind bent on killing that is the problem.. When will people learn that snap decisions made when you are emotionally compromised are usually poor ones {patriot act}.. Pigeon holing gun owners as all violent squish heads is what the liberal propaganda machine has been doing and the herd of followers is sucking it in...

The human race has been dealing with stuff LO-O-O-ONG before we even had guns.

"Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws." -- Plato (423 BC – 348 BC)

Haggis: Actually, gun control is the red herring. People have the inherent right to defend themselves any way possible. But for the mentally ill to walk about freely so they can infringe on the rights, and more specifically, the lives of others... Sorry bud, you need to step away from the bong.

"Throughout history, there have only been two groups of people that have never been allowed guns: Slaves and Conquered Nations. And which one are they trying to make us in America?" -- Sheriff Richard Mack

"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." -- George Santayana

Also, the majority of the people on this thread, (anti-gunners included), are not SHOUTING at each other. This eludes that your level of maturity is HIGHLY lacking and you should not be taken seriously... AT ALL.

(NOTE: I believe it is understood the emphasizing one or more words to make a point is completely different than "emphasizing" the whole statement.)

im a supporter of the entire bill of rights ,not just the ones I pick and choose to fit my needs and wants, im also a gun owner as well as a concealed weapons license holder and I do take my pistol just about everywhere I go. you never know when you go to the grocery store if some heartless thug is going to come in and open fire. I for one would not want to find myself completely at the mercy of one of these murderers. if im carrying and atleast able to return fire maybe he or she wont kill as many people. and yes theres a risk of an innocent person being shot but by an armed person who is trying to stop the crazed gunman before he or she can kill as many people as possible but that happens even with trained police officers. I keep my guns loaded but the pistol I have has 2 safety measures that must be in certain positions before the gun will fire. and I take my kids to the shooting range with me and both of them have fired my pistol. see they know what will happen if they point that gun and pull the trigger. I understand that may not be for everyone but my 19 year old son has been around guns his whole life and has never been in any trouble. I do believe there should be a more appropriate age restriction to buy and own a gun. I know that I was a bit of a hot head when I was in my early 20s so I didn't own a gun at that age. then again I could fight and run a lot better in those days. I think the age limit to buy, own and carry a gun should be atleast 30. at that age you have had time to get all the wild oats out and your able to use your brain instead of fists or weapons to get thru tough situations. im very sad and heart broken that this piece of garbage took all those innocent lives but taking guns away from law abiding citizens only empowers criminals and leaves us at their mercy! and tho I am usually one of the first people to get on here and yell and scream about my rights and my freedoms I think enough is enough and if responsible gun owners have to be inconvenienced so that children can attend school without the fear of being murdered where they should be learning about the world they live in is not to much to ask! I have no use for an ak47 or that type of weapon nor do I know of any person or situation that would call for such a weapon. I have a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun. plenty of ammo so im good. but if I decide to buy another gun in the future and it takes 30 days that is just fine by me if it helps to keep kids safe. I don't see how it would because criminals buy their guns off the street not at gun shops but anyway if it helps. im all for it. I think we should have armed teachers or put police in schools. I know people say it would cost to much but you know what? if you go to any bank in the town I live in. they keep at least one police officer in each bank at all times! so does that mean the peoples precious all mighty dollar is more important than their children? god I hope not. anyway ,enough is enough! do something to protect the children, if one more school gets shot up and one more child or anyone for that matter dies because the government is just sitting on their hands waiting for this kind of tragedy to happen again, then the blood of that innocent child will forever be on all of the hands of the people in power who have done nothing to protect the lives of the people that make this country as great as it could be and once was. that's it im done , rant over..peace! and I will pray for the families who lost a loved one in this tragedy. I hope you can find peace again someday.

I have owned a gun and enjoy target shooting.

My son and his young wife have permits to carry a concealed weapon and do so at times. I have no problem with that.

But, we need to reinstate the laws restricting automatic and semi-automatic assault weapons of war.

VP Joe Boden is an excellent choice to oversee this epidemic crisis. I am not against people owning guns, I am against people owning guns that can kill twenty-six people, in a matter of minutes. I have heard the arguement "people can kill with a knife." True, you can kill with your own bare hands if needed. But not twenty-six people, in a matter of minutes. There are those who say"Guns don't kill people, people kill people." Well, stop selling guns to people!

Adam Lanza had a plan. He wanted to go out, "in a blaze of gory!" He made have has mental health issues but, there are others out there thinking, they can do one better. I cannot conceive of anything a heinous, as this massacre of innocent, little children and innocent teachers. But somehow, someway, if the method of owning and receiving guns is not regulated or stopped, there will be another Adam Lanza. God help us all but especially, help the loved ones of these victims. I wish them well.

I believe whitewolfyeti said it best: "So, some of you people believe that we can stop gun violence if we make them illegal? Awesome!!! Let's do that with Heroin and Meth too!!! We'll be free of bad guys with guns and drug addicts in no time."

In so few words, he hit the nail right on the head. Ask yourselves, how well the war on drugs is doing these days even though drugs are illegal? We have an army in Afghanistan, yet, it still is the worlds largest supplier of poppies, and no, they don't supply the kind for growing in your gardens. Stop and think about it for a moment. If our government can't/won't even stop the drug flow to our children, how are they going to stop others from gunning them down? They either can not, or just plain will not do it, no matter what laws you people want.

Randy This confusion is at the heart of the anti-gun misinformation propaganda.. A class 3 automatic weapon is far different then a semi-automatic weapon.. Although with permits and a lot of cash some states allow ownership NO full auto weapons have ever been used to kill someone in the United States since the gangland days of the 1930s except 2x times by police and in the movies.. If you watched these movies and think this is what is really going on then you should never ever own a gun!!

The teacher brings in their weapon EVERY day and places it inside and takes it home every day. NO MORE (gun free) KILLING ZONES!! This just lets the killers know where to go hunting! If you dont believe me put a sign in your yard that says "THIS HOUSE IS A GUN FREE HOUSE" and see WHOS house gets broken into!! And DONT call me when it happens. And all you parents out there start actually Raising your kids instead of drugging them or putting them in front of a tv or video game. TEACH them respect for others and TEACH them the difference between a toy and a real gun so there are no accidents. I know I did with mine from about 2 years old and they are SAFE! How did she get a bushmaster in the first place?? I thought you had to have a class 3 lic to purchase said weapon?

I don't know if Randy is being factious or not in referencing how so many people are referring to the Bushmaster AR-15 as an Assault Rifle. While in many states it is legal to possess such a firearm(Assault Rifle), it requires that you be associated with law enforcement or have a Class 3 FFL. Other wise, it is NOT an Assault rifle.

And here in lies the problem, we have very ignorant people clamoring to regulate an industry and products in which they know nothing. "Hey, a gun is gun and I don't care". Well drugs are drugs and I don't care. We need to shoot all Drug Offenders. Marijuana is killing thousands of people. We need to regulate it more.

Drug overdoses and brain damage linked to long-term drug abuse killed an estimated 37,485 people in 2009,[ABC News]

And many of these people think that 'banning' guns is the solution. Well the 1994 gun ban proved that it will have little affect on gun violence, which is why it was allowed to expire. Now, if you are talking about a 'ban' with confiscation, how do you propose to do that, with out violating gun owners 4th and 5th Amendment rights? A buy back program? We don't have enough money to run the government let alone buy all the guns in this country. [w.michael-reese.com/blog/why-our-government-cannot-balance-the-budget.php]

We tried to outlaw alcohol many years ago, and one can easily see where that led to. So we have to figure out away to deal with DWI, because people still drive drunk. We ban guns, they will still be here, just as the booze was then, but it will be the "Gansters/ Criminals" who will control them. Don't believe me? How's that war on drugs going? They still manufacture meth, here. How hard do you think it is to make a gun? (here's a hint, I have made several, from scratch. even though they were single shot muzzle loaders, but nothing is stopping me from machining out a full auto except going to jail) All you need is a lathe and mill, and maybe a broach or two. (I have a mill and a buddy has a lathe)

So, what do we do? Violate a God given right to self defense, from Predators (remember there are people in this country who live and make a living in regions where they have to carry a sidearm to defend against bears, mt lions, wolves, not to mention Hoodlums, and maybe someday the very government.)

Up until 1934, any one in the US could order and have shipped through the USPS, a fully automatic sub-machine(Tommy Gun) or even a BAR(both were heavily used during WWII). Where were all the spree shootings then?(other than criminal gangland) It was not uncommon to walk into a hardware store and buy a case of dynamite to remove tree stumps. If easy access to deadly weapons is the measure of a deadly society, why were things like the "Bath School Disaster" not regular occurrences?

Fox has reported that the reason this guy snapped, is that he found out his mother was going through the process of having him committed, [w.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/18/fear-being-committed-may-have-caused-connecticut-madman-to-snap]

Unfortunately, our courts have determined that mentally ill individuals have the right to refuse treatment (an unintended consequence of liberal legislation following the movie One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest).

It has become a very complicated process to have someone committed, as it should be, but perhaps that process needs to be evaluated.

Now then, given that information and the lack of information about the "security" of the guns in questions, at this point it is still impossible to know how he got access to the guns involved. i.e We do not know what precautions she took, if any. I can tell you one thing that is FACT, the reporting on this incident is crap. E.G

Last night, after I saw a talking head interview (or, I should say, NOT interview) the father of the boy who saw his teacher get shot and ran for his life with a couple of friends, I told my husband, “Something is not right here. She didn’t ask a single relevant question. So far, this boy is the only eye-witness of the gunman coming forward. She didn’t ask if the boy saw one or more shooters. She didn’t ask any details of what the gunman did first, second, third. She didn’t ask for a description of the gunman. These reporters are complete prostitutes. They could care less about the feelings of the people they interview. So why didn’t she ask any of these questions?” In fact, I could tell she was biting back questions. I looked at my husband and said, “Cal, this thing is starting to stink. By now, there should be many eye-witness accounts of the actual gunman. There should be breathless survivors talking about how this guy walked by their room, etc. About how they narrowly escaped.

I am not one of those tin hat conspiracy types, but the coincidence that this guys Father and the Father of the Aurora, Co. shooter were set to testify in the LIBOR Scandal, is very intriguing.

NO, the only thing that has changed in the last 80 or so years is the Secular Progressive agenda has wove its tentacles into society. Family is irrelevant. Dads are irrelevant. Without the Father, the mothers too becomes irrelevant as they are busy earn a living, instead caring for their young. This is left to the daycare and schools. Males, especially white males, are irrelevant or even 'need' to be marginalized. Morals and Personal Responsibility are irrelevant. History is irrelevant.

My point is, since the 60's and the Progressive march toward hedonism in this country, with the rise of the welfare state, and easy divorce, discipline in this country is gone. No longer are men being raised by fathers. And how do you become a real Man, if you don't have one to show you the way? Granted it isn't always successful, but it is more successful than the alternative.

When you can prove that banning, or confiscating Automatic or Semi-automatic Arms in the UNITED STATES will successfully reduce crime and the risk of Socialist Government control, then I will relinquish my weapons. I have shown IRREFUTABLY, that access to deadly weapons is not the cause of this, nor is banning them a reasonable solution. PROVE ME WRONG.

You cannot continue to use the UK, Canada and Australia as examples. These are relatively monolithic ethnic countries, of a small population. If you wish, I can show you an equivalent population selected from regions in this country in which the crime rate, THE WHOLE CRIME RATE(murder, rape and theft) are lower than those countries. And guess what these regions have a large number of guns in them.

The liberals always seem to be claiming the "Rich Elite" and "Corporate America" are manipulating the government. But hey, your not going to rock the boat now are you? Things are going your way right? Obama is in the White House, and the ACA is the law of the land. So, if this is true then, you are doing exactly what they want. As Sam Elliot said, "You're that Special kinda Stupid, aren't you?"

ALL, I repeat ALL firearms ARE "assult" weapons. ONLY if they are used that way. A baseball bat wasnt meant to be one but CAN be. A car wasnt made to be a battering ram for a store front but CAN be. An "assult" weapon is actually a weapon of self defense. It may be other wise to you but that might be because you may have a mental problem.

Seems like some are uneducated...automatic rifles are heavilty restricted by an expensive and extensive back ground check.......big time. I prefer semi auto for my deer hunting and semi auto for dove hunting in fact a bushmaster with a scope is fine deer rifle.

But for home protection a shotgun with hollow shot is the best and doesn't endanger other people in the rest of the house.

It depends on the upper you have for your Bushmaster, .223 cal is illegal in some states for deer hunting, My AR is chambered for .243 Win. SSM works great on Prairie Dogs out to 500yds. but I can easily switch to 6.8 or .223 which is why I chose the AR platform. It is like Barbie, for Men. ;-)

I actual prefer 7 shot game load for CQB, 2 layers of drywall is usually enough to stop it, and at close range the pattern is still tight enough to the job.

            @Habbisbingo,

You obviously do not understand the purpose of the Bill of Rights. You believe that our Founding Fathers would be against "assault weapons" because they are too powerful. I hate to inform your ignorant mind that the 2nd Amendment is to allow the citizens to protect themselves from our government. If our government uses assault weapons, then the people have a right to be armed equal to the level of the government. That is one of the things that serves to keep or corrupt government in check. You know the very same government that is going to collapse our economy with all of their asinine policies. The very same government that allowed most of good manufacturing jobs to flee the country with all of their free trade agreements. These are the people you trust. I have two assault weapons that I bought as an insurance policy for when our economy collapses, and it will collapse. I can hunt with them and use them to defend my limited stockpile of survival supplies that people like you won't have. See Habbis, they are practical.

If you think I am some nut job, I want to point out the following facts that refute our economy is recovering as the MSM suggests (You can Google this for yourself):

            1) Record high of 47.7 million people on food stamps, and the numbers are treading upward.

            2) $16.3 trillion in debt with other huge obligations pending. (Social Security, ~ $1 trillion Student loan crisis, pending derivative crisis)

            3) The Fed is currently buying approximately 70 percent of all US Treasury Notes. If our economy was doing well, that number should be close to 0 percent.

            4) BRICS- The following countries have started losing faith in the US dollar for trade. As a result, these countries have set up trade agreements so that they do not need to use the US dollar. If that trend continues, the US dollar will lose reserve currency status and it will become worthless. (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa).

            5) Federal Reserve system is corrupt. The system was set up to allow politicians the ability to borrow tons of money that our country does not have. That will drive us into debt that we cannot ever repay.

            6) Middle class manufacturing jobs are being shipped overseas thanks to free trade agreements by both parties.

            7) Fighting an endless war on terror

            8) Crumbling infrastructure illustrates that our country cannot even do the basic things a strong country should be able to manage. (bridges, roads, railways, dams, etc)

            9) Declining societal values (Increases in violence, teen pregnancy, etc.)

            10) Obamacare creates another massive Entitlement for a nation that cannot pay for its current Entitlement programs. Obamacare will also cause many full-time jobs to become part-time positions which will further crush the middle class.

            11) States and municipalities are broke. There areas like Cook County, Illinois with nearly $100 billion in debt/obligations.

If you want to see what will happen to our country, check out Detroit. It is spreading. Our prosperity is coming to an end because all of our prosperity was paid for with borrowed money. Good luck relying on Big Brother when our economy crashes! I will take my guns and be able to provide for my family. Habbis, I'd give you about week of survival after our economy collapses.

Appointing the likes of the ardently anti-gun moron Biden to determine what additional gun restrictions should be enacted is analogous to appointing a pro-lifer to head up a panel to determine what new abortion restrictions are needed.

How's this for an Idea. For the last 50 plus years we have been regulating, restricting and demonizing guns. How about we pull a page out of a Hollywood script(Most movies involving an incident like this, shows the protagonist arming himself against the evil doers) Let's do away with "gun-free" zones, for a change. Oh we can keep the NICS system, provided anyone denied a purchase has an easy means of recourse to correct an error if it exists.

Let's do away with the CCP. (I don't need a permit to speak freely), but if you so desire, put a limit on liability for CCP holders, that way people have an incentive to get one, so as to mitigate any litigation arising from an incident.

let's remove the left wing stigma surrounding gun owners as some crazed killers just waiting to snap. A gun on a person should arouse no more suspicion than a cell phone.

To you liberals out there, we have been doing it your way for the last fifty years, and it has led to this. How about giving our way try for a few years?

I agree with your 3rd statement, anything I want if I can afford it. And 4th, make it a capitol offense, with no more than 2 appeals, and no restrictions on evidence upon appeal.(I would rather not pay for a criminal to lounge in prison)

In a move certain to fuel the debate over Obama's qualifications for the presidency, the group "Americans for Freedom of Information" has Released copies of President Obama's college transcripts from Occidental College ...

Released today, the transcript school indicates that Obama, under the name Barry Soetoro, received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate.

The transcript was released by Occidental College in compliance with a court order in a suit brought by the group in the Superior CourtCourtCourt of California.

The transcript shows that Obama (Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship program.

To qualify, for the scholarship, a student must claim foreign citizenship.

This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obama's detractors have been seeking. Along with the evidence that he was first born in Kenya and there is no record of him ever applying for US citizenship, this is looking pretty grim. The news has created a firestorm at the White House as the release casts increasing doubt about Obama's legitimacy and qualification to serve as President article titled, "Obama Eligibility Questioned," leading some to speculate that the story may overshadow economic issues on Obama's first official visit to the U.K. In a related matter, under growing pressure from several groups, Justice Antonin Scalia announced that the Supreme Court agreed on Tuesday to hear arguments concerning Obama's legal eligibility to serve as President in a case brought by Leo Donofrio of New Jersey . This lawsuit claims Obama's dual citizenship disqualified him from serving as president.. Donofrio's case is just one of 18 suits brought by citizens demanding proof of Obama's citizenship or qualification to serve as president.

Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation has released the results of their investigation of Obama's campaign spending. This study estimates that Obama has spent upwards of $950,000 in campaign funds in the past year with eleven law firms in 12 states for legal resources to block disclosure of any of his personal records. Mr. Kreep indicated that the investigation is still ongoing but that the final report will be provided to the U.S. Attorney general, Eric Holder. Mr. Holder has refused to comment on the matter...

Rifle? What high powered rifle? When this story broke in the first place he was armed with two pistols. There was no rifle.

And even if there was a rifle and not just two .45s as the original story said, the fact is he was on medication for a condition that precludes his ability to purchase and wield firearms due to the GUN CONTROL LAWS already ON THE BOOKS. If you Liberals would learn your own laws instead of trying to make more to restrict freedom further, you'd realize they're not working because you're only restricting law-abiding citizens. Criminals and crazy people don't pay attention to laws, else they'd also be law abiding citizens that don't kill people with firearms.

And then there's this article which is about 2 paragraphs at most but possesses several videos of politicians giving opinions on the matter. This is journalism, right? Or is this high school reporting? Either way the effort being spent on this conversation could be better spent on the conversation about how this administration walked over a thousand assault weapons over the border into Mexico where they promptly disappeared. This guy had a high powered assault weapon? How strange. The black market is a great place to pick up high powered assault weapons!

And what's really going to cook your noodle if you were capable of any conscious thought - this is being reported as a MILITARY style assault rifle. Not a civilian grade assault rifle. Military. Those come from only one place because it is patently illegal for civilians to own, sell, or practically even touch a military grade firearm. This comes from a gun control law already in place! Where do military grade assault weapons come from? The US Government, equipped specifically to the Armed Forces. Oh, and also to Mexican Cartels as we're told in another story that's been swept under the rug.

                            Soooooo...... where's your argument now?

And the term "high-powered" in combination with "assault" rifle is just more gratuitous fear mongering, irrational nonsense from those who seemingly know nothing about guns. Relative to a 7mm Rem Mag or a .300 Win Mag, (both VERY common rifles) an "assault" rifle isn't high-powered at all.

The main point gun-control advocates are missing is that bans on assault rifles are not based upon any realistic assessment of their relative danger when compared to almost any other gun on the market. I'm pretty sure their fear of assault rifles is due to the fact that the rifles are black.

So when liberals bully there agenda that's OK but when Americans acting under rights granted by that darned obstacle the Constitution group together that's Hannis.. The NRA is no different than the postal union, these people join together to pool money and influence to prevent the erosion of their rights that are the foundation of this country.. Claiming to be a patriot and yet condoning things that would have made our founding fathers sick shows that you are a socialist/communist.. You are the same kind of mind that the government has convinced that MILITIA is an evil word.. If you would bother to read the Constitution you would see that our founding fathers encouraged citizen militias as a deterrent to what is happening now in our country.. So go on believing your communist organizer in chief and one day you will reap what you sow..

People these elected officials are protected by armed guards and carry themselves, yet they want to take away our rights to defend ourselves by politicizing a tragedy involving STOLEN guns. When are we going to wake up, more Government does not work, better values and intellect does. Let them live in a high crime area(so many of which are in my state, blue and has been for decades)then maybe they will see that they cannot impose their political agendas on responsible citizens because of the criminal actions of the mentally imbalanced.

If you think this has no value, inflammatory or advertising you are censoring so you could be a hypocrite.

My Father in Heaven is the God of Life not the god of death; he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous until the end of time.

All killing is horrible and it should not exclude abortions.

I'm sorry for such a sick response and I hope all will forgive my thinking on this; we will never know the truth about these killings but remember the time of the sleepers. A sleeper agent is a spy who is placed
in a target country or organization, not to undertake an immediate mission, but rather to act as a potential asset if activated. Why are these people doing this is the question we should be asking and is someone capable of making them do it? Why is it always a loner that does it is it because they are the easiest target?

Mind control (also known as brainwashing, coercive persuasion, mind abuse, menticide, thought control, or thought reform) refers to a process in which a group or individual "systematically uses unethically manipulative methods to persuade others to conform to the wishes of the manipulator(s), often to the detriment of the person being manipulated". The term has been applied to any tactic, psychological or otherwise, which can be seen as subverting an individual's sense of control over their own thinking, behavior, emotions or decision making.

So the end result is to control and to control whatever is the greatest fear and for the people at the top to control the people at the bottom the removal of weapons is the ultimate choice. You look at history it has happened many times and will happen again. Whenever any form of government becomes destructive, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it and to institute new government. We know not what the future brings but for government to have and maintain control weapons must be controlled and maybe USSR, North Korea or Cube are still trying to abolish our Rights and make us weaker. I hope they aren't in our Government.

I ask your forgiveness if I have offended you or will cause you strife it is not my intentions. My
intentions are to look at all possibilities so that we can get to the Truth.

May God Bless America the Land of the Free!!!!!!!!!!!

If Biden's plan doesn't involve banning high-capacity magazines and assault weapons then nothing will be accomplished. "Mental health" is a red herring and will result in twiddling of thumbs until the next kindergarten massacre.

WHO CARES HOW MANY BULLETS ARE CARRIED IN A MAGAZINE, the killer would just carry more magazines. It only takes 2-3 seconds to change a magazine. THIS IS A RED HERRING. And while we're at it HOW could any gun law prevent this tragedy from happening? The guns were stolen. HOW DO YOU PREVENT A GUN FROM BEING STOLEN?? Many of us have expensive safes but safes are broken into. This is another red herring. After this "safe storage law" goes into affect and there's another attack the GUN GRABBERS will just say "Well there is no safe way to store these so they must be CONFISCATED".

These attacks are orchestrated to disarm America. In every country the scenario is the same. Scotland, Australia. The gun grabbing establishment is lying to you when they say they want gun control. WHAT THEY REALLY WANT IS GUN CONFISCATION. Period. Never trust a liar. Support the 2nd Amendment. Its becoming the most important amendment we have because it gives us the power to protect all the others.

If you injure a soldier on the field you take out 3 people in the process 1 that is shot and the two others to carry him off the field. Can an assault rifle kill, well of course but its not what the designers intended it to be.

This gun ban commission or panel is just window dressing as the left has always been prepared to curtail the private ownership of firearms. He will do just fine as it's figurehead because the details have already been worked out for some time.

If you want to shoot off 30 rounds, join the army and go to Afghanistan where the "targets" actually shoot back.

Whether the gunman had three 30 round magazines or ten 10 round magazines it would not have matter. He was the ONLY one armed. He could change mags at will. He was the only one armed with nothing to stop him. With 3 ten round mags he could achieve the same body count. Again he was the only one armed and would be done before the cops arrived never mind the time it would take for the cops to form a plan to enter the building.

It's a start. No more than 10 rounds are needed for civilian use. And the auto fire argument does not work. After a short time of auto fire the assault weapon overheats and slows down. The longer it is fired the faster single shot is inrelation to auto fire.

Clips??? Are you kidding? Okay only 10 round clips for now on. Well I guess I'll walk into a school with 10 clips in my pockets; do the math, 100 rounds as it only takes seconds to pop one out and another in. This argument is almost as insane as the kid who did this horrible things. How about we eliminate all people with a mental illness.

Having a weapon that uses a high capacity magazine, for most of us, is not to do mass murders. Some believe it's to protect us from the Gov's rounding us all up at some point in time. But, they wont send in troops to get us, they will simply send a drone to blow us the hell up. My reason to have a weapon with a high capacity magazines is to protect myself and family from the mobs of people who, when the Gov is no longer able to give all the handouts when it's broke and no longer afford to do so. Mobs of those who then wont have anything will come looking for those of us who do. Hungry people are dangerous people and I want to protect me from them. A multiple fire weapon is a must when dozens are after what you have. Don't think you can do that with a 6 shot wheel gun or even a handgun with a 16 round mag.

Thats because they are so dependent on the Government to provide for them. They will be the first to go when the economy does fall flat and the Government can't provide.

Sorry, whatever you call the thing that hold the bullets. I don't own a gun..........

OK.. we won't go into the drug issue!! ;-)

However, you DO note that you don't own a gun. So you're speaking about an issue you know nothing of other than an emotional reaction to a very disturbing and illegal violent crime.

What would your reaction have been if Lanza, instead of using a firearm, had forcibly entered the school (as he did) and had pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails and other types of weapons on him? The likelihood of having as many deaths is very high. The likelihood of having even more in horrendous injuries is also high.

It's not the MEANS of doing an action that needs to be addressed. It's the mental state of the individual doing the action. THAT is where we are failing as a nation. We're afraid if accessing blame on the individual.

                                      XDm9mm:

"A magazine is an ammunition storage and feeding device
within or attached to a repeating firearm. Magazines may be integral to the
firearm (fixed) or removable (detachable). The magazine functions by moving the
                                      cartridges stored in the
magazine into a position where they may be loaded into the chamber
by the action of the firearm. The detachable
magazine is often controversially referred to as clip."

Get off your high horse. " Clip??? Are you referring to that thing you use to hold your roach?' that comment wasn't necessary.

I have an AR-15, a mini-14 and a PMR-30. My husband thinks the capacity is what congress will go after. It would be useful if you can think of real gun control regulations that can fix this problem.

Don't bother Health Care or Mental Health, no one wants to spend more on taxes. These systems have been broken for decades and please don't take my word for it. Check CNN a report from Fareed Zakaria and another one called the Health Care Cost Chart. Also check with your Human Resource Director he/she could tell you. Our cost is double that of Europe.

We have two large Liberty fire proof and bullet proof safes. They weigh a ton. There is guns in one and ammos in the other. If gun owner were safe this would not have happened. The problem is irresponsible gun owners. The solution should be a way to stop idiots from buying the guns.

Just may be better screening, testing and no kids at gun ranges or kids get tested. How about a required doctor's release form that allows a young man to practice at a range? If he is mentally ill no dice.

Something has to be done and will be. I don't think complaining solves anything. Get mad at the irresponsible gun owners.

Excuse me, but in other posts YOU claimed you had "assault weapons" and proved the veracity of your statement by indicating your ownership of an AR-15.

You own a semi automatic look alike version of a Military M16 which is for lack of a better term an "assault weapon". If they are identical in other than appearance, please indicate exactly where the full auto selector switch is on your AR-15. Don't have one? It's nothing more than a semi automatic rifle.

Oh, large capacity magazines? What's large? 2 rounds? 5 Rounds? 10 Rounds?

So, limit magazine capacity. Instead of carrying one 20 round magazine, carry two 10 round magazines, or four 5 round magazines. It takes less than a second to swap magazines.

What people are looking at are feel good knee jerk reactions to horrendous situations.

WHERE has Obama or any political hack asked about WHAT is making these people do what they do?

I don't believe "violent video games" are the cause, at least not for adults. BUT, what are these games doing to to immature and still forming brains of children? These games DO desensitize people to carnage. Even adults admit this. What does it do to a child?

I don't believe "violent and disrespectful" songs are the cause, at least not for adults. BUT, what are these songs and videos doing to impressionable young minds? Desensitizing the listener to the horror being espoused and possibly giving them "ideas" to get the attention they seek?

I don't believe "medications" are the cause, at least not in adults. BUT, what about the young minds that are still forming both physically and emotionally? What is the long term effects of Ritalin and other "behavior modification drugs"?

Oh, I am FURIOUS with irresponsible firearms owners.

Much the same as I am with DRUNK DRIVERS. But I have yet to hear of anyone calling for the banning or even additional controls on VEHICLES, the TOOL used by the DRUNK DRIVER to kill and maim multiples more people than firearms do every year.

And as to the use of a tool. At least one tools I mentioned in post 3.14 above have been used. If you remember back a couple of months, a father took his sons for a supervised visit, yet he kicked the child welfare officer out and immolated himself and his sons. So DON'T tell me they have NOT been used. If other tools are not available, I will assure you THEY MOST CERTAINLY WILL BE. There is NOTHING we can do against a deranged mind intent on doing harm to others if that deranged mind is walking among society.

If you want a rational discussion, I'm more than willing. However, until we ADDRESS the mental health issue, NO OTHER RESPONSE will mean anything.

For every action and/or restriction put in place, remember that the only people it will affect are the law abiding people. Criminals and mentally deranged people have a tendency to NOT obey the law, as is painfully obvious when you consider the prison population of this country.

You put locks on your doors to keep honest people honest. They will NOT stop a criminal.

XDM9MM Well said.. Imagine what this sick mind could have done with a shotgun and this would not have been on the evil gun list.. Beware of some of the posts that say they are gun owners and they favor knee jerk control measures as they are most likely liberal gun banners in disguise.. There is a huge propaganda push going on now through the media just like after 911 when they took away some rights for our protection.. Obama would wipe his a$$ with the Constitution if he could get away with it.. We live in rural Ohio and our greatest fear is an economic collapse and millions of dependant people fanning out of the cities looking for trouble.. When comrade Obama starts telling us we can't have more than 2 days worth of food because that's hoarding and terrorist like activity we will know that is the end.. The Germans did this to pacify and make conquered populations dependant on them..

Most of us have a security system is for this. My husband collects these guns we aren't expecting to have to use them on criminal." The police department told us the alarming system is much better.

" Criminals and mentally deranged people have a tendency to NOT obey the law, as is painfully obvious when you consider the prison population of this country."

Can't you think of any new rules that can fix this problem? How about the doctor's release forms before someone can purchase a gun or teen gets to shoot at a range? Forget mental health no one wants to pay more taxes.

Something is going to happen. I wonder if you would call it a knee jerk reaction if it was your child??? It doesn't matter what you want to call it. If the majority of the population wants to do something, they will. They are trying to reduce easy access and capacity. Sometimes a solution is a reduction and not a total solution. Do you really think nothing is going to happen or be changed?

If it were my child I would still blame the shooter and not the gun.. He could have just as easily or even more easily filled a truck with gasoline and drove it into the school killing hundreds.. They want us to forget about McVehy ? and his bomb or all the other terrible crimes.. Lets thank god they are not going after all the gang violence and traffic fatalities from cell phones and drunks..

Do you think nothing will happen? If so, everyone can go back to doing nothing. If you are worried, is this a possible solution? In Ohio at Gander Mountain a person can buy a Browning Squad Automatic Machine gun as long as they take the following:

                                      A long skill test,

a psychological profile test and exam,

                                      Strong background test.

Could the solution be this test gets expanded to buyers of semi-automatics?

                                      Can this reduce the problem?

I don't hear the liberals screaming to make those mandatory. (here's a hint, it would work about as well as a gun ban)

That alarm system you speak of? If it's by one of those BIG nationwide companies that has a three letter acronym as a name.... did the salesman also tell you that there is a COMMON code, known by every present and former employee of said company that renders your "alarm system" as so much electronic trash? Oh, there are also many others NOT working for said company that also know that COMMON code, COMMON to old and new systems alike.

Did you know that in ALL systems installed, unless you do the installation yourself, and CHANGE the chip, every system has a common factory provided back door similar to the one indicated above?

And I suppose a Doctors Note is a wonderful idea. Let's see.... how many "mental health" professionals would actually agree that someone should own a firearm? I don't see a very long list starting.

BUT, if they do, are these the very same mental health "professionals" that proclaim an inmate "cured and no longer a threat to themselves or society" which is the precursor to that inmates release into the world of victims again. How many of those "cured" people have either committed suicide or COMMITTED another VICIOUS VIOLENT ATROCITY against an innocent?

I agree that we can't control all actions or people. However, we CAN mitigate the risk. Trying to limit accessability will be about as effective as our "war on drugs" and we all know how effective that is. But it makes for good political fodder and sound bytes. It gives the ILLUSION that something is being done.

Just as anything that comes from this latest incident. It will be a KNEE JERK REACTION that will do nothing more than create an ILLUSION of something being done. Much like the TSA "agents" at airports provide the illusion of security to an unknowing unaware population. There are so many holes in "airport" security anyone with two brain cells to rub together would be able to circumvent them. They're similar to those "alarm systems" I noted earlier.

Nothing... please allow me to note that again... N O T H I N G... will deter a criminal or mentally deranged individual from accomplishing their objective.

All we can do is prepare for the eventuality and hope we do a better job the next time of mitigating the bad results. We will never be able to stop it.

Personally, I would welcome additional mental health facilities... similar to what were available when I was a child. Creedmore State Psychiatric Hospital for example. It kept the "residents" safe from the pressures of society, and protected society from the possibility of a violent uncontrolled episode. I'm NOT speaking about places like Willowbrooke(?) in NJ. That was a pit of unimaginable horror for "residents" and staff alike, but we NEED those institutions.

Oh yes... let me note that although we don't necessarily agree with the solution(s), I find it refreshing to have "discourse" with another that has the ability to have a rational and sensible discussion and NOT revert to the prepubescent name calling and politicization. Thank you!!

                                        Roadrunner0

Thank you. By the way, I had a '72 Olds Cutlass Supreme.. a sleeper in disguise... had it equipped like a Hurst Olds without the insignia.... then of course did a little "extra" work. Talk about shocking some people at lights!!!

Had one with the pop up hood scoop connected to an alcohol injection system.. I could literally scare the drawers off someone thinking they wanted to challenge it at the green..

The government propaganda has these people believing this happens every day.. they can not comprehend that it was a terrible random act of violence.. I would bet they will find a way to tax gun owners because if it is one thing the government is good at is taxing.. These same officials would jail Jefferson, Washington,Hancock and the rest as terrorists so just look at how they have improved upon the founding fathers ideals..

Up the page someone say that you can buy a BAR or SAW at Gander Mountain this is not true.. You can get a $4000 look a like that is made right near me in Ohio.. These look a likes are not full auto and can not be made to shoot full auto by design.. And so far as I know the last time a real BAR was used to take a life outside during a was was when Clyde Barrow used one.. Yes there are real machine guns owned by real American citizens but the only ones being used to kill someone are in the movies and NOT real life.. This fact seems to escape them all.......

Nothing happens with Mr Obama unless he can gain political advantage over the republicans. The more advantage to be gained the more he will push. Did anyone else notice Mayor Corey Booker has begun online efforts to run for president in '16?

IS EVERYONE HERE MISSING THE "POINT" OR WHAT! Mostly some one who holds office such as Mayor Bloomburg to babble on with his stupitiy! Here's the "POINT" idiots! IT IS AND WAS MRS. LANZA THAT OWNED THE WEAPONS! NOT HER SON! IT WAS HER "TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY" TO SAFE-GUARD ANYONE FROM GETTING HURT! IF IT IS "HER" IDEA OF HAVING "FUN" TO PRACTICE TARGET SHOOTING AS A F&*%ING "SPORT", THEN PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS! If any laws need to be passed, I think it should be on certain weapons out there that are more for military use. Anyone who has "legal" right to own a gun "also" takes "FULL" responsibility on how that gun gets used. Gun owners are just being to careless with their own responsibilities from owning something that can do a lot of damage within their own socity or community. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Weird. The administration is putting crazy uncle Joe in charge? umKay.

How's this gonna work, since I feel you can't legislate 'CRAZY'?

They can take all our guns. Then crossbows. Then machetes and other sharp edge weapons/tool. Shovels too (home owner here beat down a bad guy with one last week)... Even take our gas cans & matches. Then automobiles. Jarts too.

Through legislation they can take away all our weapons, tools and toys, but they can't legislare "CRAZY"...

And we'll still have the senseless killings.

Meanwhile,Biden is creating a panel to regulate the use of muskets and cannonballs against dinosaurs.

Fast and Furious blew up in Obama's face so what are the chances this was orchestrated by the CIA via mind control.. I know it sounds far fetched just like the government using thermite on the world trade center but a wise person never takes any ideas off the table.. I have relative who were in the military and they told me of questionnaire's about following orders of the president over constitutional law and shooting fellow citizens in large scale riots against the government and martial law.. Do you know that a full half can not recall their oath to uphold the Constitution against all foreign and domestic threats.. Illegal orders also do not have to be blindly followed..

When prayer is brought back into schools (freedom of religion - not freedom from religion, when parents spend time with their kids and don't use computers and TV's in their child's room as babysitters, when violent video games are banned, when parents stop letting kids watch violent movies, when children stop being born to single mothers, when mental patients are put in institutions, when people have to pass a test and receive a license to have a child I will agree to stronger gun controls. How many guns were used at the Oklahoma City bombing? 9/11? Answer is none. Americans want a magic pill - stronger gun control - which won't work, to cure the problem. You do not need a gun to cause pain and destruction. The bigger problem is the breakdown of the family in America.

I spend more time with my dog - one on one without distractions - than probably over 90% of people that have kids.

Plus the media with the constant barrage influencing already disturbed people. Anyone who wants to do this sort of thing will find a gun no matter how many gun laws are in place.

If you read this article you'd see that more then gun control is being considered, and that all views will be taken into account when crafting any meaningful legislation. There will always be exceptions, EVIL, and "bad guys", but, to quote our President, "...that can't be an excuse for inaction."

I agree with a bit of what you say, but I have a couple big problems with it. Prayer in school to what religion? I don't share your religious beliefs and whether you want to believe it or not, religious persecution was a big reason this country was formed. For "freedom of religion", not the freedom to be Christian, Taking away others freedoms that allows a government to tell you what you think and/or can see (your violence in video games and movies argument). How come violent video games get banned but violent movies, parents just need to keep kids from seeing those? Double standard much? Who gets to be in charge of locking up "mental patients"? What is the definition of the "mental patient".

The problem with a lot of what you say is your asking the government to govern every aspect of our lives and that is a very dangerous thing. I play violent video games every day, grew up on movies like Rambo and have been surrounded by guns my whole life. I have no desire to see anyone harmed in any way and am appalled by these mass shooting our country is having to deal with.

The part I do agree with is a return to ethics. Not religion, necessarily, but ethics of what is right and wrong. You know, actually raising the children! Wait, can't do that, American economy sucks. No one can survive on a single income anymore so no stay at home parent. Of helping people instead of turning a blind eye. The problem is, our judicial system has screwed that up to. Help somebody when their car breaks down, they sue you for scratching their paint! Help an old lady cross the road, she trips, you loose your house in the ensuing lawsuit!
bottom line: our country is broken. The more laws these morons in Washington pass, the worse it gets.

There is no law or at any time has it been against the law to pray in school, orginized prayer is against the law a teacher can't and shouldn't be allowed to lead a class in prayer unless it a religous school where everyone is of the same belief that's the law

One example of the disregard and santity to 'human' life even they are portrayed as zombies- 'the undead'.

To any kid with mental issues - how are they supposed to distinguish what is on TV (zombies) versus REAL-LIFE and particularly CHILDREN?

That, combined with access to assault weapons is the reason we are having this discussion. The media has to honor the advertising paid for by the pharmaceutical companies so they don't dare mention the role that Rx drugs most likely played in this horrible tragedy.

I find it frightening how many people are coming out not only in support of losing the 2nd amendment, but also losing our freedom of speech and press by banning certain displays (mainly video games and movies).

You do realize if you give our government the power to control what we can and can't say, we become exactly the kind of country we fight against, right? That goes against everything we are! If you want to live in a country like that, move to North Korea.

Sorry but silencers like full auto weapons are regulated at the federal level and not the state level.. It takes jumping through untold hoops and $$$ permits from the BATF to legally possess such items.. Same goes for 40mm flare launchers mounted to a rifle and the max size round is 50 cal without the same whipping.. Black powder cannons have restrictions too........

Last assualt weapons ban weas from 1994 to 2004 and had no effect on gun violence. Guns of all shapes and sizes are here to stay in the USA. If you don't like this fact, then please move to Israel, Austrailia, or Canada.

Putting a ban is only 1/2 effective if you don't remove the weapons from the market, the black market. All these guns should've been traced back to the owner and confiscated. If the owner can't account for it, then he/she would be held responsible. But u can't simply ban something w/out taking the supply out as well. They will continue to get recirculated in the black market.

We need to ban any vehicle that can break the law.... And, according to rkb5555, we need to confiscate EVERY car that can break the law.

It is because the story broke that a CCW holder interrupted the event and the psycho killed himself before he was shot by the armed citizen. The story didn't fit the MSM agenda anymore and had to be dropped before it drew too much attention.

Hey Takeaka, you said "Do your research" I bet you wont like what i found.

                                                          A LITTLE GUN HISTORY
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. >From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total
of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
If you value your freedom, please spread this antigun-control message to all of your friends.

SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!
                                                          IT'S A NO BRAINER!
DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.
Spread the word everywhere you can that you are a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment!

It's time to speak loud before they try to silence and disarm us.
You're not imagining it, history shows that governments always manipulate tragedies to attempt to disarm the people~

Sorry, the words are, "..... shall not be infringed."

For those of you that need clarification.....

SHALL is an absolute - it MUST be, no way around it

NOT is to form a negative - this turns a MUST DO into a CANNOT DO

INFRINGED is to actively limit, encroach or break the terms of - CONTROL is the opposite of infringe

                                                          So all together now......

"... the rights of the people to own firearms CANNOT EVER be CONTROLLED"

Takenaka, How fast is your car? Bet it can do a lot more than the speed limit. Why on Earth would you NEED that? We need to ban any vehicle that can break the law.... And, according to rkb5555, we need to confiscate EVERY car that can break the law.

Can either of you simpletons tell us why the reporting stopped on the Calakmas mall shooting??? It is because the story broke that a CCW holder interrupted the event and the psycho killed himself before he was shot by the armed citizen. The story didn't fit the MSM agenda anymore and had to be dropped before it drew too much attention.

Comparing cars and guns are like comparing apples and oranges. There is no comparison. Only a moron would use such a comparison.

Don't know anything about the mall shooting. Whatever u mention is mere speculation, however. What is MSM agenda ? Is it the same as the gov. agenda or are u just some paranoid moron.

It was written about Swiss gun policies previously (Emery Evans). A fact:

Gun politics in Switzerland are unique in Europe. Switzerland does not have a standing army, instead opting for a peoples' militia for its national defense. The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 30 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training. The personal weapons of the militia are kept at home as part of the military obligations; Switzerland thus has one of the highest militia gun ownership rates in the world. In recent times political opposition has expressed a desire for tighter gun regulations. A referendum in February 2011 rejected stricter gun control.

                                                            More:

In October 2007, the Swiss Federal Council decided that the distribution of ammunition to soldiers shall stop and that all previously issued ammo shall be returned. By March 2011, more than 99% of the ammo has been received. Only special rapid deployment units and the military police still have ammunition stored at home today, ammunition is sold to the public only at public ranges.

When their period of service has ended, militiamen have the choice of keeping their personal weapon and other selected items of their equipment. In this case of retention, the rifle is sent to the weapons factory where the fully automatic function is removed; the rifle is then returned to the discharged owner. The rifle is then a semi-automatic or self-loading rifle.

The 2nd Amendment became law in 2010. It is only that, an amendment, which is added to the original chartered Constitution of The United States of America in which it originally gave the army of the people the right to bear arms against aggressors. Once the public militia was disbanded the arms were handed over to the national army and citizens enjoyed the right to hold rifles for sporting purposes only. Nothing was mentioned about owning assault weapons until the 2nd amendment was recently passed.

                                                              #13.18 - Wed Dec 19, 2012 12:16 PM EST

rbk, YOU being uninformed does NOT make ME the moron. You prove my point by not hearing about the mall shooting in the MSM; it runs contrary to their ideas of how CCW permits really work. And I guess I have to spell out the semi-automatic/car analogy for those of the liberal persuasion who obviously cannot put together a rational thought. You want to ban semi-autos because there is no NEED for them - well there is no NEED for a vehicle that can hit 150 mph when the max speed limit is 85 in Texas. Therefor, I am sure you an Tittikaka would agree with outlawing and confisicating any vehicle that - by design - would break a law and, since it has been proven that speed kills, create even the slightest potential to kill innocents.

And there is direct evidence of the MSM and the current admin having the same agenda. All you have to do is watch the coverage of these events to see that. Again, you showing your ignorance does not translate to those of us that can put an intellectual argument together rather than just repeating what the MSM reports as the "truth."

It's not written on that document called the First Ten Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, and Commomly referred to as The Bill of Rights.. That old document held by the Library of Congress and the National Archives?

Oh.. the date of it's ratification was... drum roll please.... December 15, 1791. I will submit to you that is SLIGHTLY older than 2010. Like possibly 219 years older than 2010.

Yes you are correct. So let's stop calling people names because I have a whole trunk full ready to throw at you. The second amendment was article two of the Bill of Rights that was part of our Constitution passed in 1791. In 2008 and 2010 Congress enacted legislature approving the right of an individual to own a gun in his house for self defense and within the limits of law.

I am speaking of the current version to the 2nd Amendment and how people construe this as means to own assault weapons for a person defense against whatever enemy of their mind they hold.

So I hope this makes you sleep better, because whatever assault weapon you may have now you will soon not be able to legally possess with the new legislature that most undoubtedly will someday, soon, be passed.

U have rational thought ? There is a need for transport. Whether the car can go 10 or 150 does not take the necessity for transportation away, there is still a need for transport. There is no need for a semi automatic. It is not essential for everyday life. You can do without it for basic needs and your life would not be disrupted because of it.

Name me one convincing example of MSM in cahoots with gov. so i can give u benefit of the doubt.

Against multiple armed assailants 3 and 5 round weapons arent the best thing to have. Cops have AR-15s because they deal with criminals right? Arent they the same criminals who the general public also deal with?.. Maybe we like shooting sports like the 3 Gun Competition (which uses a rifle shotgun and handgun in a timed course) or just the fun of target shooting.

It's not the poor or the rich, people in unions and not in unions, illegals or legals, people on welfare or people that are not that caused the problems we have, not the conservatives or liberals - thev've all been caused by our elected officials. We need to wake up and realize that all the division in this country is intentionally caused by our politicians to keep us fighting and take the attention off the real causes of the issues we have -them

Further, where was the outrage this summer when Chicago was constantly in the news reporting a child killed by a drive by? I am not trying to make this into a racial issue, but I find it interesting how many are so influenced by the media and allow them to dictate when society should be outraged. Many folks are talking about teachers carrying guns. From what I hear most teachers are liberal leaning, so surely they wouldn't dare bring a gun into the classroom!!! Further, who says all teachers are sane and competent enough to assure their gun doesn't get in the hands of their students or they wouldn't use them against their own students? Stop jerking your knees and think this out logically!!! Needless to say, this would mean excluding Biden from having anything to do with such talks!

To pass, it must be simple kept simple and unencumbered with other restrictions. By the way stationing armed cops in our schools, a common practice in urban areas and in some larger suburban schools, is not a bad idea for other communities as well. In smaller schools retired police, who are permitted to carry concealed weapons, ought to be hired and stationed near the main entrance.

It is the magazine that can be "high capacity", not the semi-automatic.

This is a small but very important difference. There is very little to be gained by renewing the AWB because it was essentially just a ban on modern ergonomics. If the gun he used had a conventional stock instead of a pistol grip and adjustable stock when he killed those 27 people they would still be just as dead. Bans on other features like flash suppressors and bayonet mounts (and grenade launchers!) were totally superfluous.

The 10 round limit was the only thing with any basis in rationality and they only part worth salvaging from it. Yes, keep the bill simple.

*And it should be added that "assault weapons", as defined by the Assault Weapons Ban, were already illegal in Connecticut, with the exception of the mag-size limit. After the AWB expired federally CT renewed it locally. The gun he used did not meet the definition and was perfectly legal.

But to do that you need to dispel the illusion that the 2nd Amendment will empower citizens against their government. Firstly because even an armed populace will not prevail against the military unless the miitary cooperates, in which case it is called a coup in most countries. Secondly the notion that the bullet rather than the ballot is an acceptable political option (the so-called 2nd Amendment remedy) is the antithesis to democracy.

Americans must understand that it is necessary for the state to know who is armed - not so that it can impose a dictatorship but so that it can protect its citizens. Americans will be protected against a dictatorship when they learn to love democracy more than they love guns.

If you were unaware, all armed conflicts are basically "wars" of attrition. Fight until the other guy runs out of weapons, people , or just the will to fight.

Look at the countries of the ME, China had a flirting pass, and lets not forget the Soviet Union. Where is that? What does that former power look like now?

If it is democratically elected then you probably have around 50% of the population supporting the government and your 2nd Amendment remedy just becomes a violent response of a minority.

Until you recognise that in the 21 century the 2nd Amendment is a recipe for civil war or a military coup then America will always be plagued by these tragedies. As I said in a post on another gun killing about a month ago, "Get used to it because it's going to get much, much worse". It just did but don't worry there is another, bigger tragedy waiting just round the corner - fueled by your obsession with guns.

Suppose only 10% are willing to stand against a despotic, tyrannical government. That's still 8 million people.

Go one further. Only 1% are willing. That's still a very formidable force of 800,000.

                                                                            How's this for an example.

The "force" in Afghanistan was approximately 10,000 to 20,000 Taliban and AlQuaida COMBINED. They withstood the combined military might of how many nations including the most powerful on the face of the earth including The United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, and others. Now correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember that conflict started in, let's see if I get this right, 2001. So, we have been fighting there for OVER 10 years and we cannot claim "victory". In fact, quite the opposite, we will withdraw and they will have regrouped and grown stronger.

Oh, those "fighters" are just this side of the stone age. They are and were nomads, or small village farmers. Many live in caves in conditions that you would likely die in if you had to endure them. Yet, they endured.

There is no "obsession with guns". There is an unwillingness on the part of society to "stigmatize" or institutionalize those with mental conditions that can become violent without very close and strict supervision. There is an unwillingness on the part of society to HOLD the INDIVIDUAL accountable for the individuals actions. There is the continual lambasting of society in general by the vocal few that SOCIETY has failed the individual and is therefore responsible for the individuals action. Unfortunately, the very vocal few get the attention at the expense of the majority, but the majority remains silent as they don't want to be perceived as being unkind.

I believe this was an act of shadow government who want and need to take our guns so they can have total control of US. There is underlying evil that is trying to take control of the US so to implement their NWO plan. With an armed citizenry this will not happen. Don't fall for Barry's false tears. They are about as fake as he is.

The issue is all the meds these shooters were on, violent video games numbing kids to violence, Hollyweird, legal gay marriage, illegal aliens, gangs, enough said.

2000 babies are aborted everyday, where is the outcry for that? We live in a sick society and it isn't because we have guns. Call me crazy but my eyes are wide open. Kids being arrested for skateboarding, people being arrested for gardening, drinking raw milk, criticized for believing in GOD. I could go on and on about gov intrusions.

I am a free individual with GOD given rights to protect myself, my home and family. I have been a gun owner for 38 yrs and CCW permit holder for 15 yrs.

I believe that these shooters are being recruited, trained/hypnotized/brainwashed/controlled whatever you want to call it by some very powerful, evil people that wish to bring the US down. Unless the armed populace is demonized and disarmed, they cannot succeed, as soon as American become sheep standing in a pasture, the wolves will descend upon us. Ask the jews from 1930's Europe, oh thats right you can't, they were all disarmed then killed.

The military is a revolving door and they train a lot of individuals to shoot and to kill. After a person serves his time and is released, the training stays with him. Most of those who have served own guns.

Was this shooter gay? Did his "homosexual tendencies" cause him to go crazy and pick up his mother's guns? Maybe I am missing your point (though I seriously doubt it).

You say that our country has gone crazy with violence and you know what....I agree with you! However, I will let you know that our social affinity for violence does not come from legal gay marriage. If you are going to make a point, how about staying on topic and not relying on a barrage of other things that have nothing to do with your viewpoint. I agree that there is too much violence and sex on TV, in magazines, Hollywood and everywhere we turn that influence our children. THESE things add to the violent nature of our society. Two men marrying seems to fall a little out of place in this list does it not? You can be against gay marriage, that's fine and it is your right. However, to lump that in with these other social issues is simply and plainly ignorant and appears to be a vain attempt at adding weight and substance to your argument. How dare you.

Just so you know, I am with you on most of your points. I am against gun control and I believe that the government is attempting to disarm its citizens. Looking at the history of our civilization, it is the first step to creating a subserviant population. Hitler is a prime example of this.

I, too, am a proud gun owner and was taught at a young age to respect them and treat them accordingly. I cherish the 2nd amendment and honor the right that I have as an American citizen to bear arms against any and all threats to my life, liberty and my pursuit of happiness. I would be standing next to you defending our liberties with my own arsenal.

I will tell you also, that I am gay and I can guarantee that when the sh*t hits the fan and we are fighting together against the oppression of our society, you won't give a damn about my sexuality because it won't matter.

It will never work for anyone that actually wants to obtain any type of weapon as we know they are like anything else in history that the govt has tried to ban. A black market more then willing to take up the slack. This is true of drugs as we see how totally ineffective this effort has been. Moon shining continues and will for want? You also fail to accept that while raw firepower is initially on the "government" side, predicated on situations that balance of power tips one way or the other fairly easily.

What about a small military patrol that encounters the massively superior force? Fight or flight? Or alternatively, join. Any and all weapons are captured as are potential recruits.

Of course, some always note... "but the government has tactical nuclear weapons." Yes they do, and if they were to use them against AMERICANS, even if in a civil war situation, how long do you believe the "government" would have the support of the people that supported them before? And do you honestly think there is a military commander that would be willing to do something like that? America has nuclear weapons as a deterrant against other potential agressor adversaries. America is the ONLY nation on the face of the planet to have USED nuclear weapons. America is the only nation that while supporting it's decision to have used nuclear weapons wishes it never did and hopes it never will.

OK... let me counter that with how many of THOSE would fight AGAINST a TYRANNICAL or despotic government? And how many of the "ranks" would defect and join a rebellion.

Who knows ? You're missing the pt. You would have far more than 250k soldiers.

And the same pt can be said about the 80 million gun holders you mentioned.

Again who knows how much would support it or not. You will always have defections in any war. Nuclear weapons indeed may be used against potential aggressors and it would be the last option. Do u believe the feds would surrender or use nukes if no other option presented itself ? Don't be naive to believe any country that has build weapons of mass destruction are simply stored to collect dust. If they are present and circumstances call for it, the probability of use is high. I don't buy that america wishes it never did use it cause every action from the usa from its first use indicates its preparedness to use it again.

                                                                              #22.20 - Wed Dec 19, 2012 1:59 PM EST

Yes a knife. those children must have suffer a lot being stab so many time, and YES this was a Mass killing, one of many that happen there...

More laws is not the answer, help the sick is one way, enforce the laws on the books. just like the illegal.. that is against the law, but what the heck, million come into our country and nothing is done. IT will be the same with this. Look at all our prison the are full.. WHY... Because if someone sentence to die for killing somene, all he has to do is eat eat eat and get fat, guess what. his sentence is overturn, why do we go thru all the trials and re trials, put them on death row, then over turn it. why not just turn him lose. What a waste of money.. Taxes I mean.. Did I hear they would cut the prisoner, gym! or make them earn their keep, don't think so...

Back ground check are good, no one should be able to have a gun with out one.. regardless of where they buy it. But guess what, they would get one that has been smuggle in.. Black market.. SO

One thing about the recent shooting, was that the young man had gotten in a disagreement with 4 of the staff at the school a couple days before the shootings. He killed 3 of them, and the 4 one was not there that day.. What was this about????? Why did this not raise a FLAG???? Why when this young man wanted to buy a gun with out a background check and was turn down, WHY did this not raise a FLAG??? Both of these should have been reported to the police, so they might could have question him and found our he need help, this could have save some lives maybe.. It is easy to look back and say things, but we all have to understand, that the gun control start long before this last shooting...

                                                                              Just Saying....

Spoons made me fat, the guy who laid me off made me rob a bank, and my wife made me beat her because she burnt dinner. Those all seem like illogical arguments. Yet, the whole guns made me go crazy and kill people argument seems to hold water for some reason. We need to hold people responsible for their actions instead of punishing the innocent ones. I'm generally a liberal guy, but this a completely obnoxious response to an otherwise obvious problem. Punish people for being irresponsible and intentionally putting others in harms way. If the gunman's mother was alive, which she isn't, she would need to be jailed for negligence with her firearms. We should all punish ourselves for both not holding people accountable for actions and for as a society devaluing metal health / wellness of one another. We are all responsible for neglecting to make mental health a top priority in this county. This is OUR fault. Not the fault of an inanimate object. Restricting usage simply says we give up. It's okay to harm people, and we're going allow the violent people / criminals to dictate the lives and security of the non-violent people. Personally, I'm disgusted with myself and with all of you.

                                                                                    #22.23 - Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:15 AM EST

I agree. Lets see, Brady act was passed, 32 states adopted it, 18 refused to adopt it. Research institutions such as Duke University, and others did extensive followup to see what impact Brady actually had. The results between the Brady and non-Brady states? Gun deaths neither increased, nor decreased. So it had no affect whatsoever. And guess who had the nation's highest murder rate? Washington DC who had the nation's strongest gun laws (later overturned by the Supreme Court). Criminals and street gangs will always be able to get illegal firearms (still a problem today and an embarrasment for Mayor Bloomberg of NYC who still has restrictive gun laws on the books) per the FBI statistics. Oh yes, let's not forget, according to the latest FBI data, home invasions and resulting homicides of home owners is on the rise (due to the economy?). Do you know what the average response time for a police response to a home invasion is? Best check the FBI website. Apparantly cops are too busy doing body cavity searches to respond to home invasions in sufficient time to stop, or even capture the shooters.

No, I'm not an NRA member, no do I own a weapon, but I respect the right of my neighbors to responsibly own their firearms. I also respect the Constitution as a living and breathing document, not an instrument written 150 years ago.

Looks like that';s the administrations goal.
