Beloved by conservatives and often derided as a nuisance by his foes, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint has always had a way of ruffling feathers.
Now he will be doing the same, but from outside the Senate – from a perch free of seniority rules, powerful leadership structures and procedural quirks.
DeMint announced Thursday that he will be leaving the Senate in January to head the Heritage Foundation think tank, becoming what one senior Republican describes as the "CEO of the conservative movement." DeMint leaves behind a mixed record of success in bolstering the ranks of Tea Party-minded senators, but his legacy of influencing the direction of the GOP is likely far from over.
NBC's Chuck Todd and Kelly O'Donnell discuss the departure of Tea Party favorite from the US Senate, and possible replacements South Carolina Gov. Haley could pick.
In a statement announcing his surprising departure, DeMint hinted at a leadership vacuum in the ideological branch of the party that he's helped shape since his election to the Senate in 2004. "I've decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas," he wrote. "No organization is better equipped to lead this fight and I believe my experience in public office as well as in the private sector as a business owner will help Heritage become even more effective in the years to come."
"Your effect on the inside sometimes is limited, especially when you challenge the leadership a lot. And Jim DeMint has brushed up against GOP leadership," noted Family Research Council head Tony Perkins. "I think he will be one who can rally conservatives on the outside and -- with an understanding of the inside process -- will be very effective in helping lay strategies for the conservative movement."
"It's an opportunity to develop policy and be in the leadership of the thought development of the movement without having to take into consideration some of the internal dynamics of the Senate," said Colin Hanna, president of conservative organization Let Freedom Ring. "I know from conversations with him that he's eager for an opportunity to develop ideas outside of the context of the leadership dynamics of a very complex body."
South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint announced he is leaving Congress to become a full-time political activist as president of conservative research group the Heritage Foundation. NBC's 'Meet the Press' moderator David Gregory reports.
The Heritage Foundation, founded in 1973 and situated just blocks from the U.S. Capitol, has been one of the flagship institutions of the conservative movement, churning out volumes of public policy proposals from hundreds of experts.
Never reputed for his affability, DeMint's new role outside the Senate offers quiet relief to some colleagues who found the stalwart conservative's tactics abrasive. In July 2007, for example, DeMint used Senate rules to force members to vote on a Saturday, then further enraged them by failing to show up in the Capitol for the vote itself. Lawmakers grumbled, sometimes publicly, about his opposition to the entrenched GOP lawmakers he helped defeat. He scored a major victory by winning support for a 2010 earmark ban, but only after battling intense behind-the-scenes opposition from Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The move will also allow him to step away entirely from the daily routine of roll call votes and constituent work, focusing instead on efforts to nurture fresh ideas and develop new leaders for a wing of the GOP under mounting, post-election pressure to pipe down.
That's not to say DeMint's rally cries have always been heeded.

Sen. Jim DeMint talks on the phone in his office December 6, 2012 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
Famed for his willingness to forfeit immediate political power in favor of uncompromising values, DeMint famously declared after Republican losses in 2008 that he would "rather have 30 Republicans in the Senate who believe in the principles of freedom than 60 who don’t believe in anything."
That philosophy earned him a roller coaster record as a kingmaker in dozens of GOP primary endorsements made during his political career. As one of the most consistently conservative members of the upper chamber, DeMint recorded both landscape-changing victories, such as the successes of upstart candidate Marco Rubio in Florida in 2010, as well as humiliating failures like the defeat of widely parodied Senate contender Sharron Angle in Nevada.
In 2010 and 2012, DeMint backed several candidates who went on to win Senate seats and serve as lauded conservative luminaries, like Rubio, Paul and Mike Lee as well as senator-elect Ted Cruz.
But in both cycles, he also backed a number of candidates who either lost their GOP Senate primaries or went on to lose the general election. The 2010 list includes New Hampshire's Ovide Lamontagne, California's Chuck DeVore and Indiana's Marlin Stutzman (who lost their 2010 primaries), as well as Delaware's Christine O'Donnell, Colorado's Ken Buck, and Angle, who were defeated by Democrats in the general election.
In 2012, he supported eventual losers in Indiana's Richard Mourdock, as well as Missouri candidate Todd Akin, whose remarks about "legitimate rape" turned a potentially competitive general election race into a trouncing.
Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., shares his reaction to Sen. Jim DeMint's retirement and plans to take a position at the Heritage Foundation. Barrasso explains how the retirement will affect the Senate and also talks about the state of fiscal cliff negotiations.
The Senate Conservatives Fund -- a fundraising engine DeMint founded and later cut ties with in order to pursue a super PAC -- contributed to a total of 20 candidates during the 2010 and 2012 cycles. Of those candidates, 15 went on to win their primary contests, while eight won their general election contests. (One of those victorious general election candidates - Nebraska's Deb Fischer - won the group's support after its first pick lost to her in the state's Republican primary.)
Supporters of DeMint note that GOP candidates backed by DC insiders have also suffered their share of general election defeats and that DeMint's successfully elected proteges include some of the most lauded young conservatives in the Senate today.
"When you take a risk and you go out and you back a principled candidate, yes, sometimes you lose," said Perkins. "There are factors beyond your control and you don't always win, but the Senate is a much different place today because Jim DeMint was willing to take some risks."
In addition to his backing of controversial candidates, he has been no stranger to media backlash himself.
He was blasted in 2007 for saying that al-Qaida recognized "wimps" in Congress, adding "I believe a lot of the casualties can be laid at the feet of all the talk in Congress about how we’ve got to get out, we’ve got to cut and run." As early as his first run in 2004, he was pressured to apologize after saying that gay people should not teach in public schools.
In 2009, he urged Republicans to defeat the Obama-backed health care bill, declaring "If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him."
NBC's Chuck Todd contributed reporting.

First Dick Armey resigns from FreedomWorks in a huff.
Now this.
The Tea Party is dead. Long live the Tea Party.
NOT
FORWARD
He's a nuisance to his detractors according to the article? Huh?
He's yet another backwards, ignorant, bigot, who, though wrapped in a flag and clutching his bible, hates America. Outraged by the idea the country isn't 100% christian. isn't 100 wealthy, isn't 100 white, he'd rather shut it down, destroy its economy, take it back to the 18th century (or further). Of course the hypocrisy of the Heritage Foundation helping to design RomneyCare while then attacking the very similar Obama initiative is lost on the fools who will rush to support him, but that's what stupid is all about, isn't it?
Glad he's gone, but there are many ignoramuses ready to strip off their white hoods and replace them with a Tea Party hat. C'mon Ricky Perry, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, Santorum, Michelle Bachman . . . show us what stupid and backwards should really look. You're the masters.
Please defend your statement that he is a bigot.
Bill those are some seriously asinine comments about someone you disagree with politically....but then again those who do, according to your own Nth degree ignorant, intolerant, and bigoted thought process are racists, bigoted and white.
The true bigots are the intolerant liberals like yourself.
Ha Ha Hah.
Lost the presidential election?
Lost seats in the Senate?
Lost seats in the House?
What a good rightwing nutjob to do???
Get out before the total blood-letting in 2014, that's what.
That way, he can blame it on someone else, just like always.
When the going gets tough...the teabaggers get going.
Going...going...gone.
Thank you Mr. DeMint for going away and not coming back.
(Any chance you can drag a few more Teagaggers out with you?)
Boy oh boy do I feel like breaking out in a chorus of "Hit the Road Jack"!
I'm going to side with Elliot here and say that I don't have sufficient material to call him a bigot.
He's simply incompetent and out of touch and doesn't seem to grasp the idea that the Constitution explicitly says religion should be kept out of public policy.
"He's simply incompetent and out of touch and doesn't seem to grasp the idea that the Constitution explicitly says religion should be kept out of public policy."
Now you are going to have to cite your sufficient material that demonstrates DeMint is "incompetent". Also if you don't mind cite where in the Constitution it says there will be a "seperation of church in state" when it comes to drafting and enacting laws. There is big difference in establishing a government led church and writing laws that promote Biblical teachings and laws.....which are law already do.
GOP Think-tank, now there's an oxymoron.
Just reading all the name calling, vitriol, bigotry and snark-isms on this post should be enough to convince anyone that the liberals in this country are the most hypocritical a-wholes on the planet.
Do you folks read the crap that you post? Is it just spontaneous stupidity and behavior, or is it programmed according to the Alinski Rules for Radicals... I think the latter because I have difficulty believing that you really don't know what the hell you're doing.... But I'm beginning to change my mind.
AndresTM you need to read the Constitution again. It clearly states that public policy and the government will stay out of religion not the other way around. The writer's did not want a Church of the US like the Church of England. If you read the Federalist Papers and other historical documents of the time nearly all the framers stated if and when the country moves away from religion and a belief in God the freedoms they fought for would be all for nothing.
Any lose of any Teabugger from government is a step in the right direction. So 11 teabuggers lost their seats in The House and now this resignation in the Senate. Tell you something! Just make sure to replace him with a moderate, republican or Democrat. We don't want anymore of these right wing extremists.
Buh. Bye. Go live with your own misguided kind and leave us to run the United States in a 21st century manner.
good riddance.another bought and paid for servant of the rich leaving to persue a leadership role in trying to keep weak minded fools in the middle class or poor voting against their best interests.no doubt the rich are reeling from the ineffectualness of the hundreds of millions they spent to buy the government
Bobby boy, the Tea Party is alive and well, it's the Republicans that think the should be like Democrats who are dying. "The South shall rise again!"
Jake, how are you going to run the U.S. without our money?
Joining Sarah Palin in the Quitter group!
floyd,
I will gladly keep paying my 20% on my meager income compared to the rich sneaking through with their 14% average. You get what you pay for and I'm willing to pay as the Greed bug, that grips the republican party hasn't affected me. I love this country and will do all I can to help it not seek off-shore accounts and loopholes. I don't have that much money to be able to do those things anyway!
floyd,
The teabuggers and their extreme, no compromise, no negotiation policy to sign agreements years ago to not raise taxes when we are now paying the lowest rate since the 60's needs to stop. They are a pile of crap!
Follow the Money Trail, That's what this dude is doing.
Think Tank my A$$, Greed at it's finest. Bye Bye Jim
Why does the No Spin Zone do so much spinning? Fox has this buried on their site, and heaven forbid anyone should comment on anything over there. No Spin.... Right.
Tracey: "There is big difference in establishing a government led church and writing laws that promote Biblical teachings and laws.....
----------------------------------------
.....Sorry, no there isn't.

Tracey: .....which are law already do.

........Okay, I give up, please explain that.
Heritage Foundation - Jim DeMented - Think Tank. Oximoron?
Oh, riiiight! Conservatives have been pure as the driven snow, eh? Hahahahahahaha!
floyd-335513
"The South shall rise again!".............like Dracula, sucking our blood, because -
Jake, how are you going to run the U.S. without our money?.....Oh really! We can't can't post URLs here anymore, but if you Google "US Federal Tax Dollars Payments-Allotments" and then click on the search result with the same name, you will see an analysius of how much each state receives from the Federal geovernment per each dollar that state sends in to DC. You will note that the preponderance of the states that get back more than they send in are the Red states, mostly in the Farm Belt and the South. So I have to ask: How are YOU going to run YOUR state without OUR money? Yeah, the South will rise agan, will rise to the previous levels of self-importance and arrogance.
Good, "floyd". That will give us the pleasure of kicking your a$$ again!
Look at the facts, "floyd" The money we save not having to support the "south" will more than make up for any contribution you may think you make. Do not think for a second that a modern "confederacy" would be anything close to a first world country...Unlike you, our allies also love America and would not take kindly to treasonous scum.
Now he's not subject to the restrictions of being a political figure so he can start taking all the kickbacks and handouts he wants...
Good point, R. Scalzo.
What is DeMint's salary as head of the Heritage Foundation?
I hesitate to call it a 'think' tank.
Well, you didn't and it didn't.
Sounds like DeMint has a Napoleon complex.
This country is in the worst pile of crap politically since the 1930's. We will become the next Soviet Union or Argentina if our erstwhile progressives have their way, Communism or Socialism have been the biggest lies heaped on humanity, both are the governmental equivalent of a ponzi scheme and are steeped in insanity as the next generation of communist and socialist think they can fix the problems each systems has not understanding you cannot borrow and tax your way into prosperity, you cannot kill off the rich to benefit the poor and you can only spend other peoples money until its all gone. It's the proverbial dog chasing it's tail. and the world has been doing it for over one hundred years.
you blind, neuron dead, choosing to be ignorant microbes! There WILL, VERY SOON, come the day when we are so buried in debt, that the government checks will bounce!
WHEN this occurs, you selfish, hate America, self centered parasitic microbes will ONLY THEN begin to realize that your and Obama's tax and spend mentality has taken us into an abys, for which we can't get out of.....
and even then, faced with REALITY, you will still be in denial
...until that government check that bounced, was issued to you!
By then there will BE NO "rich people" left to tax. The middle class, THINKING people, will have disappeared. END RESULT: YOU worthless bastards and you leader(Dumb as a box of Obama Rocks) will be left with a morally and financially bankrupt society and it's degenerate members!
YOU bastards really hate America and only look out for your selfish selves, and hate anyone who is successful in business, life and finance!!
Other than nazi right-wing propaganda points, what would YOUR suggestion be, "kip"?
I'm sure Iran would love to welcome all of you America hating fascists...Although they do have a reputation for treating their women better.
Oh...and, Eric... Your team ran up the bill and trashed the economy. Lie about it all you want, but those of us that truly love America were there and will do what we can to not let it happen again. Get used to being on the losing side and, dear god, get some therapy.
Andy,
The First Amendment has two clauses concerning religion: the Establishment and the Free Exercise clauses. What you are referring to is the Free Exercise clause, which was clearly meant to keep government out of religion. But just as effectively, the Establishment clause is widely construed as keeping religion out of government. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that the government is allowed to endorse or favor a single religion or to give preferential treatment to people from one specific religion — that alone should suffice to keep religion out of government even in the absence of the Establishment Clause, if you are a strict constructionist (most conservatives are). Such preferential treatment would go against every single thing the Founding Fathers believed in.
As for the Founding Fathers, it is widely known that many of them were, at best, "theistic rationalists" and, at worst (I'm using "best" and "worst" as regarded by Christians), closeted atheists. Regardless, it's hard to encapsulate their collective stance in one sentence beyond what's in the Constitution, as they were religious to various degrees. But many, if not most, of them strongly believed in the separation of church and state. The great James Madison said it best, "Religion and government will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together." John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson also made several remarks to a similar extent, sometimes very explicitly condemning the church as a corrupt entity.
I'm not at all opposed to politicians using the teaching of Jesus Christ to promote empathy and love for our neighbors, but that's exactly the opposite of what highly religious politicians do. I strongly believe that if Republicans were sincerely religious, they would do as Jesus would most assuredly do and institute universal, single-payer healthcare. (I know, I said there's an Establishment Clause, but there are many good reasons beyond genuine religiousness to wish for single-payer healthcare.) After all, Jesus rode around on a donkey healing people for free. Compassion for the sick is much more central a part of Christ's message than oppressing civil liberties in the name of religion. Do you ever hear anything to that effect from Republicans? No. And, by the way, Jesus never spoke about homosexual marriage, he never spoke about abortion, and he certainly never spoke about pot.
Maybe if "religious" politicians like DeMint really stuck to Jesus' true message of compassion and altruism (as opposed to oppression and greed), then we progressives wouldn't be so vehemently opposed to their letting their religious dogma dictate the way they conduct their policy making.
Andres...
If charitable contributions are used for the compassionate repair of life's ill winds (and they absolutely are) then the strongest supporters will be Republican, conservative and christian.
Compare charitable giving by Mitt Romney and George W. Bush to Joe Biden and feel the shame.
Eric,
Shut your lying trap. I pay a much higher rate of taxes than my rich neighbor. He says he pays 14% and bitches and moans. I paid 20% and do it willingly . You get what you pay for and Greed has not been part of my vocabulary like it is form so many on the right. Tax rates need to go up as we are now paying the lowest rate since 1960. No wonder the debt. That plus two lost wars that costs trillions and 7,200 body bags!
No matter what you say, or what other intolerant conservatives say, the Democrats -- or "liberals", in your terms -- won in the 2012 election. Obama won the popular vote by 51-47%, the electoral college by 332-206, and they gained two Senate and eight House seats. Further, polls -- not the laughable ones done by Romney's dreamers -- have shown broad support for Obama's policies: people favor raising taxes on the wealthy by a 65-31% margin, believe the Dems will avoid the fiscal cliff by 53-36%, and further believe the Dems will try to work with Republicans by a 56-38% margin, but with the roles reversed those polled said the Republicans will not act in good faith by 51-43%.
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/institutes-centers/polling-institute/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=1821
So no matter how much you complain, or whine, or hide your eyes from the result, the Republicans (and with them the conservatives) lost in November. The majority in this country support what Obama and the Democrats are trying to do, and at the same time have a serious distrust of the GOP. The only way out of the hole that you have dug yourselves is to lose the Tea Party mentality (getting rid of Demint is a good first step) and realize that this country is far more diverse than your old, rich, white men base. Do I think that will happen? Not anytime soon.
And just think...in 2016 the beat will go on when Hillary Clinton gets elected President!
I forgot this Loonies name, was it Jim Dimwit ??????????
Yes., they won. But in the last four years, they could not keep their promises (e.g. Closing Git-mo, Having Civilian Trials for Civilian Combatants, Reducing un-employment to 5%, Not raising Tax on the Middle Class). In fact, most of those promises from 2008 election ended up going the opposite. Git-mo is still open with indefinite detentions. We went to war with Libya, secretly over oil. The Supreme Court announced that the Health Care Reform Act (Obamacare) is a tax on the middle class. Un-employment is still above 7.8%.
So now that they won, will this country actually get what was promised? Or will they continue to blame President Bush or someone else? At some point, we should tell the child to not blame the dog for eating their homework and to actually do their work. The current plan is to fix the $1.5 trillion deficit with an increase in federal revenue by taxing the top 1%, an increase of approximately $76 billion a year. And the stupid thing is, we all seem to accept that as being possible.. An increase in $76 per year will correct an $1500 per year over spending!
So.. in other words, having utterly failed in high office in an elective democracy, he's going to try his hand at corrupt influence peddling in the Republican Party's unelected party oligarchy.
hillary gets elected president in 2016?the only way id vote for her was if the republican was wearing a swastika and campaigning in German
So remind me again? The "tea party" are those that want to balance the budget, right?
Bill in Austin demonstrates how the degenerate class overpaid to be in debt in order to attend so-called 'college', where he and other govt worshipers learned to be eager Marxists. Not American values.
the degenrate class includes - the worthless snotnosed lazy occupy pukes, homosexuals and their 2-faced coward apologists, pro-abortion human life destroyers, loser brain-damaged dopers, begger welfare deadbeats, illegals who lower wages and take jobs the lazy deadbeats should be working at except the Marxist class would rather enslave them in welfare dependency, Marxist Leftists who covet what others have and then steal it, irreligious Christian haters, Jew haters, Hamas lovers, and generally anyone who sponges off others that what they have not earned and do not deserve, also lazy deadbeat losers who are mostly unhappy, angry, and don't give more than a pittance to charity because they would rather steal your money to pad useless pencil pushing commies who take your freedoms, also the communist soil lovers who outlawed ddt allowing millions of mostly children to suffer and die, all in the name of love of dirt. these pukes do NOT hold American values and deserve to be ridiculed and shamed, for they shame this country as they continue to drag it into the sewer they dwell in. that's about enough. for now.
Jim DeMint is not estranged from many odd perceptions and curious ambitions. The man will, without pause, circumvent legal and moral imperatives to attain their manufactured mutations.
If striving for accuracy in journalism, from this point on the headline and story references will need to read "the once influential Heritage Foundation."
One has to wonder why an established, well-known and well-financed organization would choose to commit suicide by handing the reins of the organization to this Tea Party, anti-science, climate-change-denier, birther, and in-general extreme Right-wing whackadoodle?
How could Board Members of the Heritage Foundation become so deluded by partisanship that they could cross that intellectual threshold of thinking that association with Jim DeMint would improve the stature of their organization?
shocked and disgusted/ clwd
You are classic example of microbes that have lied and spread lies so much, you have sucked yourselves into your own little delusional world.... it is you who are in desperate need of psychotropic meds and therapy.
YOU , can however, SHUT YOUR PATHOLOGICAL LIEING TRAPS! The day is coming SOON , when your house of card COLLAPSE... and is indicative of you pathological liars, WITH NO PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, blame it on anyone else!
THIS 16 trillion dollar PLUS debt is OBAMA's.. HE OWNS IT. HE SPENT THE STIMULUS MONEY like a drunk sailor on morons and microbes like you! ..SO GET OVER IT! SOMETIME, in your worthless life, you should learn to shoulder responsibility, NOT SPREAD BLAME on anything in sight!
AS TO BODY BAGS and wars....
What Bush did with Iraq, wa based on knowledge that Sadam had WMD, as confirmed by previous administrations and UN inspectors. WAS it the right move...hell no!
ABOUT body counts and war. YOU are too stupid and never willing to acknowledge facts, but here they are.
IT WAS, John Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson, along with Sec of Defense Robert McNamara who poured in thousand upon thousands of innocent Americans into the meat grinder called Viet Nam, while boldly lying to the American public...
and at home, festering piles of fecal matter, like your type, were protesting not ONLY the FLAWED policies of JFK and LBJ, but our service men who came back to be called baby killers, family wrecker, murders, and worse! SO, PAY ATTENTION,LEARN and LISTEN; YOUR democrat presidents have more blood on their hands than can be washed off!
YOU and your kind, should be separated from our society with NO MORE REGARDS, than we should feel discarding rotten apples from a barrel!!.
poor richardo missed his medication.i had no idea the happy house had internet access.good for you
You all can disagree, back and forth, all you want to. It comes down to Congress starting to work together. Since the Republicans have gone so far off of the deep end while they continue to honor their pledge to Grover Norquist, who do you think NORMAL people support? ACTUALLY, normal people support neither. BUT, as long as the Republican Party is following the path that it is following, don't expect any support from people who value freedom over fiscal conservative values. Take your guns and YOUR "God" AND SHOVE IT! If I need to, I will use my guns to preserve MY freedom, and that means freedom from YOUR religion.
Jim is DeMinted..he is going to the Heritage Foundation .. to steal others' ideas and plagiarism the same old-unworkable conservative ideas.
Well Eric-113, finely stated, but no doubt will be lost in a cloud of weed smoke.
DG_W
So you mean to say the Bush was 'right' when he won the election? A victory means nothing without prosperity.....we've seen NONE in 5 years.
Another two bit teabugger hustler chasing the money.
@ Robert in Oregon#1.41: A good evening to you my Friend. I share your dumbfounded wonderment presented in your post above. I am loath to say this, but I feel it is probably close to right. DeMint can, and will stir the passions of bad, or unhealthy pathology. Republicanism seems to have morphed more toward the exploitation of those base demons, loose among the wrongheaded victims of pathologies, that, for many reasons and causes, cannot fit within the dictates of otherwise, commonly shared native logic and reason. The country seems very close to being populated, especially among whites, with even amounts of both ilks. I believe the republicans mean to increase the numbers of these, at least for the present, mental outliers. If this is the case, then DeMint is as good as anyone to bring this about. Always good to see you. Regards my Friend. Sincerely, Mac
@justone- bush started a war so he could win the election. Haven't you figured that out yet? Don't you remember all the discussion about war presidents losing an election - about how few of them do? Don't you remember a bit of orange security alert a short time before the election?
Ooops - I forgot. If you are a republican your memory skips everything from the loss of the civil war to three sentences by Ronny Filth Reagan and everything thereafter. We are the beacon for the world-- because we have teabagger Koch licking weasels who won't vote to ratify a Disabled Access treaty. Republicans have no moral or intellectual standing. The do have greedy guys with a lot of money who will fund them. And bigots. And psychotic christian fundamentalists. And guys watching out for black helicopters . . . so which are you? One of the rich or one of the dupes?
eric you are one dumb motherfkr!! paranoid much?? FY
Hasta la vista baby!
Too bad Mr DeMint Does not leave the senate in order to open a business of his own, per say.
It's funny to see how the elite protect their own, switching them around from one place to another, up on high circles.
I guess the Senate now, will not be as radical as he wishes, and of course, he is way to arrogant to do his constituents work, something he was sent to do by been elected senator, instead of being the instigator in chief at the senate.
Good riddance, his salary and benefits are a waste of our hard earned taxpayer money.
Old fat guy,
Unfair to make that comparison. Joe Biden is known to have been the least wealthy senator of the last thirty or so years. Both Bush and Romney come from very wealthy families. Your comparison is tantamount to calling Bush and Romney insensitive bastards because, even if you put together everything they have donated, they wouldn't come close to one-hundredth of what either Bill Gates or Warren Buffett (both fellow agnostic liberals, by the way) have pledged to charity. (It would be unfair, by the way, because both Buffett and Gates are over 100 times richer than Romney or Bush).
But my point is, Jesus wouldn't just do nothing as 50 million Americans live without health insurance. That would be a far greater issue to him than abortion or gay marriage.
Definitely not true!!! He is taking a 1Million $ job and gives up his $150,000 job. Besides being a scum bag, he is a traitor as well.
justoneguy, he won the popular vote once. President Obama did it twice. That means, after the little teabag experiment, the majority of voters want to try it the Presidents way. Your way of obstruction did not work. All this talk about President Obama blaming anyone on anything is bunk too. One cannot solve problems until we all know where these problems started and the dangers of going back to the same policies. The president now owns this economy and with our help we will move forward. It is time for the far right to either negotiate and compromise or get the F out of the way. You continue to obstruct, we will bury you in 2014, if not before. Bringing back the tax rate of 2000 will in NO way make the rich poor. It will in fact, make them even richer. Few are complaining. To simply close loopholes and deductions is no solution. They will just secretly open new ones and you know it. I would love to see the loopholes and deductions closed on top of raising rates. Allow just two deductions if they want to keep their effective rate low. One to bring back some manufacturing and one for hiring (creating jobs). In place of that, I suggest congress, with the help of industry, to reform regulation in a fair and balanced way.
Eric said "hate anyone who is successful in business, life and finance!!" Well, considering only about 10% of Republicans are successful in business, life and finance you sure have the other 90% bambooozled!
JimD-406742
Bush staged the Iraq invasion for 8 months with the house and senate majority approval...get your head out of the sand. Simply because something wrong has been said over and over doesn't make it factual.
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
--Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- -Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
AND FOR YOU......rednawt1
Ummm, hate to remind you rednawt, but the "president" has now owned this broken economy for 5 years with NO change....pull your head out of the ground and see the facts.
WOW! He has been in office for 5 years?? Thanks for letting me know. I, for some reason, thought he has so far served less than 4 years. All most two of those with a republican house, where ALL spending bills originate. I keep hearing you all say the president doesn't hold the purse. Who does? So why do you all keep blaming the president? Why do you all complain when we only point out where much of the nations problems began?
Oh 'red' get a life.....Obama has done nothing and all you do is blame a repub house..check the spending, the house has done nothing of it. You've re-elected a proven loser and all you do is vote partisan...no matter the outcome.
For those who asked fro proof he is a bigot:
He said he should not have siad it the nxt day
Then the next week he said he was 'encouraged by the response he had received"
So he is bigoted against Single Moms and Gay people.
It's funny how libs bash anyone who doesn't think like them. But, come January when you receive a smaller paycheck because you have to pay higher taxes, remember to thank Obama and the dems for that! Those hated Republicans in the House voted to keep your taxes the same. Your fellow libs in the House voted against keeping your taxes the same so they could increase in January. Your beloved leader in the Senate refused to let your comrades vote on keeping your taxes from rising. And all this was done with the blessing of your Supreme Comrade. Yet, I have no doubt you will blame the republicans for your taxes going up. No wonder the country is going to hell. The majority of people have lost their brains.
So much for your fearless leaders being on your side.
oh justoneguy, you can't have it both ways. Either the president hold the purse or the house does. The president can only spend the money allotted to him. He does have some flexibility on some of it, as all departments have some flexibility. He does sign spending bills into law. That is as far as it goes. That being said, it was a democratic house that created Bush's last budget year. THAT deficit was some $1.4 trillion. All of your twisting doesn't change a thing.
DeMint will be as useless as the leader of the Heritage Foundation as he was as a US Senator. Good riddance to him.
I don’t remember the exact percentage of people that are in favor of taxing the rich but I think it was 63% or something like that. For the life of me I can’t under how people feel it is okay to take something they haven’t earned or worked for. When I was a kid that was called stealing. If it is not yours to begin with you have no right to it. I guess 63% of the US population leans towards a socialist way of living. A short 10 years ago I would have never believed the US would turn away from democracy and reject principals this country was founded on. I think the wait is over, America is no longer a great country, it is just one of many that has been ruined by the majority who no longer want to work for what hey have, and believe that everything should be given to them by those who have sacrificed, taken the time to educate themselves or become marketable and are a productive member of society. I guess all great countries implode at some point. Unfortunately we re watching it happen before our very eyes and I do think we have crossed the point or recovery.
I am at the point in my life that I will live out the rest of my days in comfort. I own a home here in the US and one in Germany. I moved most of my wealth out of the US and invested in overseas opportunities with in the last 24 months. The rate of return isn’t as strong as it once was here at home but I don’t run the risk of losing more of it in the form of additional taxes. Many more in my position are taking similar steps so while everyone is discussing taxing the 1% more they are busy divesting their investments here in the US and moving them to off shore accounts. How is that helping to resolve our debt crisis? Believe what you would like and call me any names you to; it doesn’t bother me in the least. All of you that feel entitled to more of what I have need to wake up. The government isn’t smart enough to deal with those who have the real wealth, not me but those who have the serious wealth. Look at what has happened to the banks. The government has stepped in, implemented the Durbin Act, the new Card Act governing credit cards and limiting fees the banks can charge. Today banks are raking in record profits because the government is no match for private business. There is a reason these people are working for the government and not a successful enterprise, they are not the best or brightest of this pathetic country we have become. So again, go nuts, try taxing the top 1% more and see how that works out for you, but in doing so remember my little story about the banks and see if what Obama is about to do will work. My money is on he private sector and I have done pretty well with them in the past.
The Mad Hatter exits stage (far) right...no time to say hello, good-bye, better late than never. Some think "America is no longer a great country", and that this is a "pathetic country" (above comment) - I sincerely disagree. Sure, it could be improved; one improvement would be if those who don't love and appreciate this country would leave (take the money and run - and don't come back!).
MarkMo12757, why not just move to Germany permanently? You'll not be missed and neither will your "wealth". Oh, and take your little stories with you. You can entertain the Germans with them. C YA!
It is my understanding the Germans are tax much more than the Americans and right now are being taxed far less than in recent memory, like in the past 50 or 60 years. Go, sell your house here. The real estate markets are coming back fast...on President Obama's policies. Of course I don't believe a word of your story you are pushing.
Hate to say this but the GOP are their own worst enemy, besides their flock, their hate filled rhetoric has turned a lot of people against them, even their own, they think people like the way they have split our country baiting racism every chance they had would some how create NEW Republicans and that backfired, now they have 4 years to create a bigger mess, they will not change and neither will We. We look FORWARD while they look back We need to move forward not backwards.
Just like over last two decades or more - there is nothing "conservative" left about being a republican; now the tea party is officially aiming to kill any remaining "though leadership" (some will argue if there ever was one) in the republican camp.
This guy is going to take his bible and his gun to Heritage foundation and destroy it. As a liberal I would still lament it because a healthy democracy requires an equal though leadership on the other side to ensure balance. And now there is a very good chance that all we will see is focus on narrow parochial ideology rather than true "conservative" thought.
old fat guy-1144960 wrote: "If charitable contributions are used for the compassionate repair of life's ill winds (and they absolutely are) then the strongest supporters will be Republican, conservative and christian. Compare charitable giving by Mitt Romney and George W. Bush to Joe Biden and feel the shame."
Though Republicans earn less and give more would seem to be factual, I'm not certain that charitable giving is the salve you attribute to it. The Bible, since you are discussing Christian ethics, encourages that we all live in Jesus' image. Jesus was very much a care-giver, donating his time and skills to help the poor, sick, widowed, etc. If you compare the post-presidency lives of recent Democratic presidents (Carter, Clinton) to the Republican presidents (Reagan, Bush-41, Bush-43), I think you'll see that the Democrats went on to donate serious parts of their lives to helping those Jesus said we all should help (Habitat for Humanity, Clinton Global Initiative). The Republicans seemed to have gone into seclusion on their ranches. I know that this is an incomplete comparison, but it makes about as much sense as your Romney/Bush/Biden comparison.
The tea bag clowns would call this guy a socialist.
http://www.upworthy.com/ronald-reagan-was-a-freeloading-hippie-socialist-traitor?c=bl3
You've got love leftist liberals. Seems like anyone who does not agree with their views is automatically labelled a Nazi right winger, a neo-con, or other similar labels. Trying to argue or discuss logic and common sense with many of them is an exercise in futility as those two items just do not compute to them. It's their views or none. And before somebody wants to start throwing Republican barbs at me, please save your breath as they would be wasted. I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I gave up on the aforementioned parties long ago! I am solidly middle of the road Independent with a slight lean to the right. I vote for whoever I think is best suited for the job, not the party!
I love it when a teabagger says: "Show me where in the constitution it states church should be separate from the states"
You F-N moron did you ever read the constitution, I mean like EVER? This is not some guessing game show you stupid fool this is the United States of America a place were English is spoken not FUAX NOISE.
Go back the watching FUAX NOISE where you learn phony history and lies as talking points. Also where people have a war on Christmas you jack azz. buzzzzzzz you just got sprayed with roach killer.
First, I want to state that the Norquist pledge is the dumbest pledge every made by a person representing a group of people. Unfortunately, it is a shown that the American people have chosen to remove those politicians who have broke that pledge. The American people should automatically reject any candidate that has received money from Norquist's PAC. Unfortunately, they do not. That give Grover Norquist power. The American people have given him that power.
That being said, lets say that the Republicans in Congress accepted the recent proposal that the President put forward. We presently have a $1.5 trillion per year deficit. That means that we spend each year $1.5 trillion more than the government takes in as revenue. The President's proposal is to increase revenue by allow the top 1% of Americans to return to the old Clinton era tax rates. This is said to increase the revenue by approximately $1.7 trillion over 10 years. The math on that means, assuming a equal proportion amount which will not occur, $170 billion a year. So his solution is to correct a $1500 billion over-spending by increasing the salary of the federal government by only $170 billion? I do not know about you, but that does not seem to add up correctly. In the words of the President, "The math just does not work." Then in the proposal, the wants to actually increase the amount the federal government spends? So that it may not be $1.5 trillion per year deficit but something much larger?
Lets face it if we are really interested in fixing the problem, the taxes for every single American has to increased. The taxes for 100% of Americans needs to increase. If they are un-employed, they will need to have their taxes increased. If they are low income, they need to have their taxes increased. If they are blue-collar workers, they need to have their taxes increased. If they are those that think up new ideas and take risks, they need to have their taxes increased. All this has to occur if we want to continue the current spending levels as it is for the three top federal budget items: Social Security, Medicare, and National Security. If you do not want to have Medicare changed and do not want it to be completely bankrupt in 15 years, you need to tell all your representatives to increase YOUR taxes.
Eric-1132156, you are suspended for a week for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
So what are "American values"? Since you seem to be so adamantly opposed to "Marxist" views, do you know what the opposite of Marxism is? It's Fascism. Marxists = far left, Fascists = far right. And just like the Tea Party loons who wanted to call Obama both, the inevitable conclusion is that you don't know what you're talking about. Since you don't seem to like Marxists, you logically must lean toward Fascism. Which is, of course, your choice...unless you start acting out what another right winger, Sharron Angle (thank goodness she didn't get elected!), proposed with her "2nd Amendment remedies" nonsense. Taking that course of action is treason and can get you the firing squad.
Don't forget, the majority in this country favor Obama and the Democrats' policies -- Marxist or not -- over Republican policies that seem to lean more toward Fascism. So which way do you want it? Do you want respect for the duly elected government (the House notwithstanding) or do you want jackbooted uniforms goose stepping down Pennsylvania Avenue?
Thank you, Sally. We all tend to get a little carried away sometimes in our passion for politics, but...WOW.
I do hope that "eric's" comments are not deleted. We all need to read his comments very carefully and understand that this is what the "tea" party has been, is and will always be about. This is, precisely, the ideology that the Republican party is pandering to and we need to make it absolutely clear that, as long as they continue to pander to this kind of behavior, they will, most absolutely, lose any seat they may ever have at the table in American politics. Despite some of my differences with Reagan, he NEVER would have tolerated someone like "eric".
There used to be a day when I voted a very split ticket - particularly on the local level, but until the Republican leadership stands up to condemn and sever all ties with the "tea" party and their AM Radio/Fox "news" leadership, I will never again vote for another Republican as long as I live (and if it were up to people like "eric", that would not be very long).
Eric,
Yes, shocked and disgusted with party who only cares for the rich. Pay up or shut up republican extremists and stop taking us into wars that waste lives and cost trillions that run up the debt and then cry paper tears! My former party is a pile of crap!
clwyd...
Afghanistan is now and has been Obama's war for nearly four years.
Both Iraq and Afghanistan were bi-partisan adventures
Libya was Obama acting on his own without as much as a congressional consultation
Point is democrats own the wars now
Yes, shocked and disgusted with party that says "you pay, but not me" and "gimme, gimme, gimme!"
Eric,
Are you so stupid to think I didn't criticize, Ike, Kennedy and LBJ for Vietnam as well? I had a draft card and would have been drafted or left the country rather than go into a meat grinder that claimed 58,000 body bags. I'm against all wars where and when possible.
old fat guy,
I just love how the republicans ruin the economy and people like you came along and say it is Obama's to fix. Then the two wars bushwhacker started and now they are Obama's wars.
Well, Iraq has been ended and we are almost out of there. No deaths for 6 or more months there. ( No wasted Lives). Afghanistan is drawing down and about to end. Only two deaths in the past 2 months. Libya's was ended with drones and without ground troops like John McPain was calling for and many of the republicans. The Party of No, the Party of Do Nothing is also the Party of Warmongers.
old fart guy,
Please, like the rest of the right get in touch with reality. Oh, I see former Gov. Crist of Florida a republican, then independent has gotten in touch with the truth and reality. He declared himself a Democrat!
@RichardWalking - I suspect we don't share many political views, but everything you state is correct. What the ideologues on both sides of the political spectrum refuse to acknowledge is that in order to head off the fiscal and economic calamity toward which we're headed we will have to go after all sacred cows. Federal "revenues" will have to be raised, spending on defense, Medicare and Social Security will have to be brought under control. The only big-ticket item that, for better or worse, must remain beyond our reach is debt service. Not much else is worth discussing because, relatively speaking, not much else amounts to a hill of beans. Since I'm aware that I have to participate in the solution: I'm willing to have my taxes increased and my Social Security and Medicare eligibility ages raised. I'm willing to limit military activity to situations in which it's essential to protecting our national security or economic interests. (Iraq never qualified and Afghanistan no longer does. Europe can pay for its own defense. We do have a responsibility to Israel because we had a hand in its creation.) And before you tell me I can do most of that on a voluntary basis - I expect the same of everyone else. (I recognize that there are people who truly don't have the means to participate. But if you own an iPhone or a big-screen TV you're not a member of that group.)
@Shockedanddisgusted - I don't completely agree with your indictment of the Tea Party. It has its roots in the desire for fiscal responsibility. In my opinion that can't be argued with. Unfortunately the movement got co-opted by people who want to replace the Constitution with the bible, believe they should be able to control what a woman can and cannot do with her own body, and feel that what consenting adults marry each other is somehow their concern.
LogicRules-01, actually I wonder if we may share some political views. I tend to think of my self as central conservative. A person who wants our government to be fiscally responsible. I have no problem with the federal government, and by extension the American people, to decide that we want to help the less fortunate. To have things like Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, FEMA, un-employment, ect, but if we do decide to make those commitments, we should pay for them. We should not push the payment on our children. I set back and see things like following happen last year and it tends to upset me a lot:
* Year ago in October, the Administration announced that it would reduce the amount of money taken from everyone's paycheck for Social Security, aka give the middle class a tax break in hard times. This occurred for the year of 2012. In the same week, the Social Security announced that it would increase the amount paid out per month in Social Security payments. To fund this, it was going to steal the money from the Health Care Reform Act saving made in Medicare changes. And the American people seem to accept this as a good thing all around. To me, they seemed counter productive. We increased the cost of Social Security while at the same time reduced the revenue for it and to fund it, we stole the money from two systems that were supposed to pay for themselves, one of which we already realize has a financial problem.
* In the last 4 years, we decided to drastically reduce the budget for defense. This included the Sequestration stuff scheduled to take place in a couple weeks that will reduce it even more by about $500 billion. Yet at the same time, we had a "war" with Libya 2011 that was un-funded. We presently are looking at mobilizing military resources to the boarder of Turkey to support the NATO treaty. We moved a second battle group into the Persian Gulf to enhance our security footing against Iran, partly because we are no longer in Iraq. We moved 2500 more marines into the South Pacific to spot the "aggression" of China. We have un-diagnosed cases of PTSD for Iraq and Afghanistan war vents. Under funded Vet Hospitals with paint pealing from the walls. We have dead war vets in Arlington that we do not know what grave they are in. And all this because we will not touch Social Security and Medicare and raise taxes for everyone.
Personally, I believe that if we individuals ran our personal finances the way we have allowed the federal government to do so, we would have had our house, car, and shirt on our back foreclosed and reposesed by now.
Finally the cockroaches have been show the light. I just wish he would find a JOB for Mike Lee and take him with him. After his display and charge against the UN disability act the other day. This TEA Bagger two years ago cried poverty and obtained a "Short Sale" on his 2 year old mansion in Alpine Utah. He used a program that MITT called the 47% takers program. But I'm sure he still Paid his tithing to the Mormon church. DeMint hand pick this clown and now we are stuck with him for a few more years. I am delighted that the "roaches" are on the run. We need to boot a few more Baggers in 2014.
DeMint says he's going to head-up a "Conservative Think Tank."
A what?
"Conservative Think Tank"?
Now THERE'S an oxymoron if I ever saw one!
;-)
For starters I think his name is Jim Dimwit and the "think tank" I think it's an Outhouse !!!!!!!!!!!
Think - Tank? more like Stink-Tank
Heritage Foundation? mostly just the old Bigoted heritage
This guy is just like Palin.
"I hold my office and the people who put me in it to the highest regard. Wait a second, I can make more money doing something else and still have political influence without having to work for the actual public who were counting on me to speak for them? To hell with the Senate, I'm going fishing baby!"
Not that it matters. I bet the Tea Party folks will still shill for this drop out. Boggles the mind.
Can you blame him having to work with the likes of Boehner and Canter on top of 53% of the voters electing Obama back to office?
Well, just remember, it was only 43% before George W. Bush got done with the economy!
Yahoo, now the Heritage Foundation (swill) will sink under the weight of de mint!
DeMint would have lost his last election if his band of corrupt tea baggers had not created Alvin Greene, the not-quite candidate to run against him.
Alvin Greene "won" in a primary over Tom Clements using South Carolina's Externally Programmable electronic voting machines with, no paper trail to confirm the count.
Tom Clements, the real Democratic candidate from SC would have beaten DeMint severely.
http://gp.org/greenpages-blog/?tag=south-carolina-green-party
If DeMint gets more than minimum wage at Heritage Foundation, he will be grossly overpaid.
Another one bites the dust. Interesting that he believes better to have 30 true believers in the senate than 60 who are not. Sounds like he'll be another right wing nutjob playing to the band like Limbaugh and the Fox talking heads that scream so loudly they fail to notice the only ones listening are the few like themselves. If they get what they want they'll lose more and more moderate republicans. At least when he gets his 30 and his party no longer matters we can just ignore them.
The Senate Ultra Con ship sinks a little more...
"leader" my ass. What a putz.
It is frightening to say and I am very thankful that DeMint is no longer in a position to effect American policy, but I was a bit more comfortable having him under the eye of public scrutiny then being shuffled into the underground hole called the "heritage" foundation where he can spread his evil and not be held accountable for it.
...and Lord only knows what kind of Senator that nasty wench of a Governor is going to be ordered to appoint.
It will be interesting to see how many more of the "tea" party nazi leadership go into hiding...and we should be keeping an even closer eye on them.
and one more repungnican "leader" walks away from his commitment for more money, a la Sarah Palin. Move over Ensign, Craig, and Sanford and Gingrich.
Precisely my thoughts. What a bunch of whiney quitters! When the going gets tough for rwnj's, they go (for the money so they can go) shopping.
Yeah, so sad! When your only motivation is money, it is so sad they just can't stay bought, isn't it? There is always someone else with more money, isn't there?
Will he be able to share the spotlight with Grover Norquest? How much did Rush pay him and is it taxable?
America needs fewer extremists like Demint. Bi-partisanship is almost a joke these days due to people like him. I can't imagine he will be missed.
Especially by the likes of the wanna-be conservative career RINOs in the Republican party.
He will not be "missed" as he and these multi-millionaire organizations are plotting something we need to watch with everything we can to sabotage the 2014 midterms and state elections. Don't let your guard down for a MINUTE people. Cheering that he's GONE? Don't be so STUPID!!!!! I am sick of warning the ignorant and unsuspecting of getting their heads lopped off. Don't EVER FORGET 2010 and how we paid for that. Don't EVER FORGET IT!!!!!!
Well said 2ndamendmentliberal. We can take comfort knowing where this jackass is and can keep an eye on him. He will be in the position take the republican party even father to the right so there will be no question as to what we need to do in 2014.
Only interested in a buck.
Anyone surprised?
What are you doing for your country?
Well, the majority isn't earning a buck! Certainly not after George W. Bush (you know, the guy who doesn't exist, according to the Republiocan party) got done with the economy!
Seems to me the left was just wiser with a buck seeing how the elections turned out. Even getting over 1 million more votes in the house. I would say that means a lot of the races were closer than most realize. Less than 2 years to the mid-terms! Keep up the good work,
you piece of shltrepublicans, we are counting on you all!DeMent is an embarrassment to all decent South Carolinians.
Charlestonians try to pretend the upstate area, especially Greenville do not exist.
This economy has never recovered from bush disaster tax cuts to the rich.
The repungianges tried with all their might to convince us it wasn't bush it was President Obama.
The American people are no fools.
I'm not spewing forth a hate filled diatribe, more than the tea party can say.
Goodbye, farewell, auf weidersein (sp?), au revoir--I wish I knew more languages so I could say it over and over. The handwriting is on the wall for the tea party and demint is getting out while the getting is good.
Katinseatt? Ya' know, on some level, I kind-ah get what the Tea Party was trying to say. Make our government accountable, lean and mean. Quit wasting our tax dollars!!! Get out of our personal lives and focus on what the government is Constitutionally authorized to do. In a nutshell, I think that's really what a majority of people would prefer.
But how about logic and reason and good old fashion common sense. And allowing decisions to be made as close to local as possible.
In the end, our government is a reflection of us....and what we are willing to accept. I honestly believe we need to "clean house", so to speak. That goes for both sides of the aisle. No more "career" politicians. No more of Congress voting themselves their own gold plated benefits and pay raises. We should treat political appointments as an honorary position and after serving no more than 2 terms, return to the private sector to live under the same laws as everyone else. (just a thought)
JT - i agree all politicians should serve no more than 2 terms & live by the same laws as the common people.
The problem is what republicans say they want and what they do are two different things. When they talk about making government smaller yet spend like there's no tomorrow. Bush cut revenue 400 billion but didn't feel the need to pay for anything. Two unfunded wars and a 200 billion dollar unfunded drug plan. Yet Romney felt the need to out spend him by cutting revenue 500 billion, increasing military funding that military leaders weren't even asking for and starting up a new space program. People need to stop listening when republicans talk about smaller government and less spending when their next breath is how much new spending they want.
Actually Larry, Bush's 10+ years of tax cuts LOST $1.6 trillion in revenue, and Bush touted that those 'cuts' were supposed to help create jobs for the middle-class. Of course the opposite happened; 6 million lost their jobs, including 3+ million in Bush's last year in office, and that doesn't include the continued job losses in Obama's first year because of a Bush budget and policies which were already set when Obama took office. Of course the GOP/TPers, Fox 'Entertainment' News, and the low-information gatherers who swarm like moths to a flame, would have everyone believe it is Obama's fault that those people sought relief through social services and unemployment benefits out of thin air. How dare these people do that, after all the 'good' Bush did for them...
Like deciding who can marry, who can't get an abortion because of rape and the insistence that the raped woman would have to allow visitation for the rapist? To push their religious beliefs down our throats? Or global climate change and the lack of understanding about anything science says? And remember, ALL spending bills begin in the house. That alone tells you how disastrous the tparty has been.
rednawt1? I think we are in violent agreement here. I was just pointing out I could almost understand their base message.
I honestly believe....a group of otherwise very patriotic Americans were manipulated and used as pawns for political gain. The question I have to ask is, who was REALLY pulling the strings?
It seems just the typical move of going from once corruption to a higher level as a Lobbyist and receiving 10X or 20X times the money in the pocket...... The new America???
bye,bye jimmy boy-don't let the senate door hit you in the ass on the way out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heh, too bad for him the Tea Party Movement is a sinking ship. I guess he's hoping that Astroturf floats...
Yeah, it's so much better to have left wing morons in Washington that that say such wonderful things like "pass it so we know what's in it", and "we voted for you, bail us out", and "give me unConstitutional control of the debt ceiling", and "we'll do cuts later, raise taxes now" in control of everything, right?
Wishful thinking Toasted One... that sinking ship of which you speak may be a well armed submarine...
Sorry Chery, but morons are one demographic the GOP has a lock on.
Like we need more trillion dollar well armed submarines. That is great fiscal thinking. All the tparty was successful at doing was to awaken the giant progressives. Good luck in your future endeavors.
I agree fully with Toasty and Beer Mug.
Hard to believe that there was a time when Heritage was right center. I guess they're going for hard reactionary now. Heritage should foot the bill for another election for his replacement.
Oh no, there's a "majority" in this country who think the government should foot all the bills. So, let 'em. Fools.
Yes and there are even Detroit city council members who thinks Obama OWES their city a bailout....
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/detroit-pol-bacon-brought-home-obama-article-1.1214033
This is just they TYPICAL liberal mindset of those who voted for Obama.
Tracy1973
You mean The Majority of Americans who voted For Obama and Many more that voted Against the Teabaggers?
Get Over it. Let it go. Move on. Get out of the way..this country Is moving Forward...not backwards.
"Get Over it. Let it go. Move on. Get out of the way..this country Is moving Forward...not backwards"
This country is moving Foward alright....right over an economic cliff, because the people who voted for Obama apparently aren't too concerned with this country's debt or deficits or lack of economic growth.
Get out of the way? What what let the liberals turn this country into another Greece? No @!$%#in* way and if it came down to real revolution they better hide.
Praysalot - How is making the next two generations (the one being born now and the next one unborn) responsible for our foolish spending moving the country forward? The founders of this country said that any debt incurred by the government should be paid off by the generation that incurred the debt. Nearly 18 trillion in debt and a totally worthless dollar is not moving the country forward.
Ahahahahahaha!
Why do you think DeMint left? There are no votes for this crap anymore!
Funny? Didn't we ask that after Bush was gone? I mean, the man racked up 2wice the national debt in 8 years and not one whimper out of the radical right! I begin to think it is only Democratic debt that enrages you! Republican debt is perfectly OK!!
Tracy: Democrats and independents just aren't stupid enough to believe Romney and people like him who propose cutting revenue 500 billion a year while adding 200 billion new military spending and a new space program are serious about balancing the budget. Romneys plan would have doubled the deficit his first year like Bush did with the same plan. Only an idiot would believe being fiscally responsible is cutting revenue by 20% at the same time you increase spending by 20% is the way to prosperity.
Bush's last budget that ran from Oct. 2008 through Oct. 2009 was in deficit of 1.2 trillion. Had Obama simply ran Bush's last budget his 4 years we'd still have a 15.7 trillion deficit. Can't you people do simple math?
Tracy-dearest...Please describe, in detail, exactly what led up to and caused the crisis that occurred in Greece. Then, please, show in detail the exact Democratic proposals that have been offered that precisely mirror, as you claim, the Greek proposals that brought about their crisis. Then, please, show us the precise Republican proposals that have been offered that would save our country from the exact crisis Greece is facing.
Please supply us with dates, exact figures and the exact language of the proposals offered by the Greek government, the Democratic party and the Republican party.
My guess is that you are simply regurgitating the propaganda fed to you by your AM Radio/fox "news" nazi leadership and that you have no clue what happened in Greece, let alone your own government.
Please...prove me wrong with documentation.
Hopefully Michelle Bachman will be Next!!
Barack would be better, but YOU screwed that up in your zeal for "free" stuff, didn't you.
CherylLM, I'm glad you don't believe in govt benefits. It's good to know that you don't drive on public roads, don't send your kids to public schools, won't accept medicare or social security payments, don't use police, fire, or emergency services, and don't believe in the govt ensuring equal rights for whatever minority status you may share. BTW the military is another FREEBIE paid for by the govt. So I guess you don't support that either. Having a robust federal govt is for the SOLE PURPOSE of providing benefits to the citizenry. Like most teabaggers you rail against the FREEBIES while daily making use of them.
Beer Mug....
Well said!
The rhetoric "free" stuff chant is unfounded and so yesterday. Get over it and let's move foreward. The majority of Americans this past election made it clear far right is not their cup of tea. Despite what is said to the contrary, our founding fathers never wanted to see someone's religious or personal paranoid belief system, as part of our political process.
Beer Mug, you are just that: an empty glass! The "services" you itemize are all taxpayer funded: Roads, education, SS, Medicare, military protection, are not "entitlement" programs aimed at wealth distribution. But, you can take your empty Beer Mug to the nearest welfare office and sign up for life support... and then give a big thank you to the 50% of us citizens who actually pay taxes.
irishbound:
What a classic, brilliant comment!!! "The majority of Americans this past election made it clear the FAR RIGHT is NOT their cup of tea."
Thank you!
Beermug, of all the things you mentioned, the military is the only one that is at the federal level, everything else is local level. Medicaire and SSN are contributed already so the government is onyl giving back what you already invested.
You know what, that is such crap! This has nothing to do with "free stuff"! This has nothing to do with what is good for the country! This has only to do with what is good for the Republican party.
Sadly, as you are now finding out, this is NOT good for the Republican party in the long run. So sad! You reap what you sow!
Federal/Local--it makes no difference. Whether we specifically contributed to a particular benefit--makes no difference. The POINT is that the purpose for ANY govt at ANY level is to provide services and benefits to its citizens. That's why they EXIST. Most of the TeaWhiners who are railing against "freebies" are net USERS of govt benefits. The only ones who are not are the very rich. If you are a multi-millionaire and don't want to pay taxes into a system that benefits other people for the good of the nation, then by all means move to Kazakhstan or Sierra Leone or Antarctica.
All those benefits Beer Mug listed and more ARE in part funded by the feds. That makes this nation a far more even country. Although there are differences from state to state as far as how good roads are or how good schools are or even health care is, the differences are not as vast as they could be. Most of the south would be in less than 3rd world status if it wasn't for the redistribution of the blue states wealth, as an example.
Another HONEST politician leaves, to be back filled by some lying, corrupt, bribe taking, influence peddling, use taxpayer money to give unions paybacks Democrat I'm sure.
LOL - Demint is SO honest he's pulling a Palin - cutting and running from public service for the tea bagging cash. It seems that there a plenty of sheep out there to be fleeced, don'tcha know. Now he can lie at leisure to the Fox Noise crowd and not have to worry about being called on it. Don't spend all your $$$ at Walmart, Cheryl - there's another "patriot" with his hand reaching for your pocket.
CherylLM
I would hardly call Sen. Demint 'HONEST'.....SELF-SERVING, yes. Honest, not hardly.
Good riddance to bad rubbish ! While the core thought of the Tea Party is correct, "to have the government be sound fiscally", the problem is the Tea Party was hijacked by right-wing fanatics just after it was formed and one of them was DeMint. Trying to ride the coat-tails of the latest, greatest idealogy to the top. However, most of these Right Wingnuts hijacked the Tea Party for their own religious based causes and that sent it way out of kilter with main stream America. We would all like a balanced budget and only through a focused, long term effort will we get there. It won't be in 2 years by throwing Medicare and Social Security under the bus and letting the billionaires in this country go laughing all the way to the bank while the general populace suffers.
Are you really that stupid? Dick Cheney and Halliburton, no-bid contracts. George W. Bush and Enron, Enron employees were involved at every level in the Bush government. Yeah, that's why the Bush administration was labeled a "culture of corruption".
Yeppirs, them Republicans are pure as the driven snow, eh? Hypocrite!
EEingineer:
as per usual, you have twisted the facts and are now believing your lies! CULTURE of Corruption belongs to Obama and his band of merry idiots and incompetents....
NOT since LBJ's administration and U. S Grant's has corruption reigned free!
Political paybacks VIA the stimulus to ALL THE FAILED Energy companies just to start!
SWEETIE! The "Teabaggers" are funded by the KOCH BROTHERS who are worth over $53 BILLION. Now, why would they be funding an anti-tax, anti-regulation organization? Gee, could it be that their companies pollute American rivers and watersheds and they don't want laws that force them to pay?? Could they just not want to pay higher taxes on their HUGE PROFITS which they DO NOT share with their employees? What the hell kind of fairness in life do you seek? Try experimenting with Ginko biloba (for clarity of thinking) and see if your priorities don't start lining up with most Americans!
finally!!! He has made my day.
Good riddance. I hope the voters replace him with a Democrat or an Independent.
Another rat scurries from the sinking GOP ship. Good bye and good riddance.
I know this if going to kill you white liberals, but Tim Scott is black and a Tea Party candidate.....
http://www.humanevents.com/2012/12/06/jim-demint-leaving-senate/
....for you guys that's an even worse choice than another old white dude.
So what, a teanut's a teanut.
Hey Tracy--when Tim Scott shows up at the TeaBagger rallies, do they at least have the decency to hide the racist signs?
Tim Scott I know is far more intelligent that almost all the Democrat liberals in Congress. Have you ever heard of that airhead Sheila Jackson Lee? This twit represents the district right next door to mine....one of the reasons I don't live in the 18th.
Hey Beer Mug cite your evidence of the "racist signs"....or your can go back to drinking.
And the color of his skin matters how????
And boy the Tea Party Rallys sure come up with some signs, don't they? I thought the "I'm tea-bagging for Jesus" would nearly kill me I laughed so hard.
Tracy, why is race so critical to who or what is right or wrong? Is that a Tea Party rule?
Tracey, Herman Cain espouses the Tea Party's core issue of fiscal responsibility, but his ideas are tempered with social responsibility and inclusiveness, as well. Despite his personal indescretions, he is a proven businessman. I am among the fortunate that may be able to send him to the Senate in 2014. This man would have potentially beaten President Obama had the GOP given him a chance instead of selling the nomination to Gov. Romney.
Oh the becky, becky stan stan guy who could'nt even answer a straight question on how he would have handled Libya at the time and told ordinary citizens whose tax money bailed out Wall St: "Don't blame the banks, don't blame Wall St if you're not wealthy, blame YOURSELF" just like that greedy POS deadbeat who would'nt even pay his child support hater Joe Walsh who screamed at a woman and said the same crap Cain did. Oh and this same Cain who said he would require loyalty tests to the country and NOT appoint ANYONE who is muslim to his Cabinet if he became President as did Bachmann and that bigot Gingrinch? They all need to read the Constitution again where it explicitly states NO RELIGIOUS test shall EVER be required of anyone to serve in public office from the federal to the state level and these religious extremists are promoting such UnConstitutional practices should they take the highest offices in the land and all this "good businessman" BS is just that BS as this guy FIRED tons of people in the restructuring of his lousy pizza chain, still pays employees poverty level wages while making hand over fist and engages in the worst greedy business practices that the typical CEO in this country does just like Papa Johns and good ol Mitt Robme....creates working poor by the thousands while lying about how Obama "is the food stamp President".
THESE people are the "foodstamp" creators as they get millions in tax cuts, more in tax deductions then we the vanishing middle class can dream about as our good jobs are shipped overseas by the boatload while more and more crap jobs like these are left behind for Americans that don't pay enough to live on, leave people having to apply for government programs to supplement their pathetic income and our greedy sicko conservatives pat the blood sucker on the back for "good business" and bash the desperate employees who like at Walmart fianlly have had enough and went on strike because they can't take the abuse anymore while attacking the union for "putting them up to it and want a lawsuit against the union". You're the sickest people alive and the reason why America is BROKE and in debt!!!! Your should be ashamed of yourselves but shake would take a conscience and that none of you have!!!
F-----g GREED, GREED, GREED when we were a once proud vibrant country who ALL paid our taxes, worked hard and had something to show for it. Now the only ones who get anything are the haves and the HAVE MORE MORE MORES because they've been profiting off the rest of US for over 30 friggin YEARS thanks to voodoo economics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough is ENOUGH of your s--t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are fighting back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this makes me a "commie or a socialist" or whatever you so-called 'christian moral conservatives call THIS atheist liberal, I'd rather be ANY of those things then one of YOU anyday.
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal"? If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of "Liberal". But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people, their HEALTH, their HOUSING, their SCHOOLS, their JOBS, their civil RIGHTS, and their civil LIBERTIES, someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal', then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal".
John F. Kennedy 09/14/1960
So quit politicizing the tragedy in Benghazi for your propaganda fodder and lies to destroy a President and someone else's career who had NOTHING to do with it when the whole WAR in Iraq that was started completely in LIES sure didn't matter one iota to any of you and thousands of our troops died over there and BILLIONS of dollars wasted, still being wasted, and thousands of Iraqis died in a war that NEVER should have been waged to begin with but sure made a lot of defense contractors rich, including some puke that got a heart transplant ahead of many people, a lot of them CHILDREN because of his MONEY and privilege to get that done and how much was on the taxpayer dollar since the evil old, lying fart is retired from the government on top of it?
Yeah, thought so. JFK may have come from money too but he served honourably in battle as did the older brother who died in his last mission-One he did not even have to fly in as he served all his mission as a pilot but went anyway...Bobby died at the hands of an assassin but also gave unselfishly and so did Teddy whose whole life was in the service of others. could not save that young lady and it haunted him for the rest of his life for those who condemn for it but read his book: True Comapss
Jim DeMint and these so-called people who sit in the government, collect from the taxayer trough and then go on to do THIS? Be high paid lobbyists and do the work to advance the interests of millionaires and billioniares?
Not one ounce of compssion in any of them. Selfish to the end.

First link is proof teabaggers are not what this nation needs. They want to cut education funding. The next link has some mild racist signs. I just don't want to do the googling for you.
The Teanuts continue to get weeded out...
Isn't this the same Heritage Foundation whose idea it was for the individual mandate in health insurance? Oh that's right, since President Obama embraced the idea the HF is now opposed to it's own idea. Considering many of the looney candidates DeMint has supported, I guess they were meant for each other.
They may go, Toasty, but they won't go easily or gracefully. I reaf it will take 2 or 3 more cycles to clean out this infestation.
Thomas Eulb: your dyslexia is showing... And what will happen after this 2 or 3 cycles to "clean out this infestation?" Will all our congress be liberal spendthrifts who can't balance the national checkbook? So the libby lemmings will race willy nilly toward the cliff?
I don't know. But at least I do know they won't be another Republican a$$wipe that will double the national debt in 8 years! You know, like, uhhh, you know, what's his name... he whose name must not be mentioned!
You all say this carpa now! Where were you when Bush was spending his a$$ off? Oh, well, that's OK! IIOKIYAR!!
Ummm Tony, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, George Bush; 3 Republicans who couldn't balance anything standing on both feet, and 1 Democrat who balanced the debt WHILE getting a bj. I'd vote for the guy who can do TWO jobs at the same time, over any of the inept GOP 'leader' who couldn't do ONE job without simply being distracted by the air rushing between their ears...
The dot com bubble inflated earnings and worth, plus have a Republican Congress controling spending then you get a surplus. Which quickly evaperated just before he left office. No president ballanced the budget. Regan and Bush had a deal to lower taxes, and cut spending, taxes were cut, but the democratic controled congress didn't cut spending = Debt. Bush ran up a 5.8 trillion Dollar debt with a Democrat congress in 8 years. Obama with the same congress (split for the last 2 years) ran up a 6.4 trillion dollar debt. Twice as much, and he wants to increase that.
So why is Obama parised for his debt and Bush bashed for spending half as much? Double standard.
Heritage Foundation think tank : not much quality thought in that tank
It's just another conservative politician bagging out of the job his constituents elected him to do so that he can go make money. Way to cut and run when the going gets tough, DeMint.
What a turd.
Tells you a bit about how the Republican Party functions when a Senator says he has to join a group outside of government to contribute to and direct the policies of the Republican Party........wtf?
Democrats do the same thing.
BREAKING NEWS: Jim Demint leaving senate to fill new role as Grand Dragon of KKK!!! Woo-hoo!
BREAKING NEWS: Beer Mug is drunk again.
Nah: he's just restating his bigotry and hatred. Leave him be Tracy1973... he ain't worth it!
If you are going to make statements about bigotry and hatred, please back it up with something reliable and not just your personal thoughts.
You will be missed in the Senate. But I agree you can do far more outside.
Liberials just name call, when they dislike someone, because they have no basis in fact, to come against someone. By calling someone a bigot, or racest, you don't have to prove it just sling the mud and hope it sticks. But only Liberials have this right, no other groups have it.
300Michael: Republicans are the masters of slinging crap to see what sticks and refuse to back down even when proven wrong. Republicans claimed Obama was foreign born despite showing his Hawaiin birth certifcate, claimed he was muslim despite being a member of a christian church for most of his adult life and questioned his academic record even though no party has ever demanded a candidate release those otherwise. Maybe you need to look in a mirror or at least take off the blinders if you only see crap slinging from liberals.
Larry he didn't show his birth certificate until 3 years after he was president, Revend Wright's chirch, calling it Christian would be questionable.
Bidne is the one that said Republicans said that concertives would put blacks back in chains. The president saying that concertives would toss your grandmothers off the cliff. It is ok for the president to cover up Fast and Furious, Libya, and others
