You know, I've been seeing a lot of people commenting based on misinformation, close the feds comments being only one of many. I'm going to set a few facts straight here:

1) Ambassador Stevens asked for an extension on his SST from the State Department, and he asked it for the Embassy in Tripoli.

2) The official US Embassy is in Tripoli. The consulate, where Ambassador Stevens died, is in Benghazi, about 400 miles away. It is a set of office buildings surrounded by a wall. It is not a regularly-staffed office, no people actually work out of it, it is a satellite location for the diplomatic team to conduct meetings with parties on the east half of the country.

3) Stevens and Smith were the only two that died at the consulate; Doherty and Woods, both former Navy SEALS privately contracted by the CIA, were killed in the attack on the CIA annex some distance away three hours later. They were killed while helping 30+ Americans evacuate.

4) Stevens was NOT raped, tortured sodomized or anything of the sort.

5) Part of the responsibility for the incident must lie with Ambassador Stevens himself. He traveled to the consulate that day from the (fortified and guarded) Embassy in Tripoli for some local meetings that took longer than he expected; he decided not to travel back to the embassy, but to stay overnight at the consulate and resume meetings the next day. There were only about seven people in the consulate that night when Stevens saw his last visitor (a Turkish diplomat) out of the building at about 8:30 local time. Knowing the area was full of unrest, and protests had been going on about the anti-Muslim video throughout the day (a Libyan witness interviewed about the incident said he saw a few members of the militia responsible gathering ordinary people outside the consulate to protest the video) in hindsight the decision to overnight in a building with inadequate protection was inappropriate.

6) There were roughly about 125-150 attackers.

7) The Libyans were extremely sorry and there was an outpouring of support. There were demonstrations in Benghazi and Tripoli on September 12, condemning the violence and holding signs such as "Chris Stevens was a friend to all Libyans," "Benghazi is against terrorism," and other signs apologizing to Americans for the actions in their name and in the name of Muslims. The NY Times noted that young Libyans had also flooded Twitter with pro-American messages after the attacks. It was noted that Libyans are typically more positively inclined towards the United States than their neighbors. A 2012 Gallup poll noted that "A majority of Libyans (54%) surveyed in March and April 2012 approve of the leadership of the U.S. -- among the highest approval Gallup has ever recorded in the... region, outside of Israel." Another poll in Eastern Libya, taken in 2011, reported that the population was at the same time both deeply religious conservative Muslims and very pro-American, with 90% of respondents reporting favorable views of the United States.

8) A week after the attack on the consulate the ordinary people of Benghazi rose up against the militants responsible, storming their compound and driving them out while shouting slogans like 'Justice for Chris' and 'Libya Lost a Friend' as they did so. Two days later the Libyan government declared these unauthorized militias illegal and decreed they disband. The decree also made public carrying of weapons illegal; and the next day hundreds of Libyans handed over their weapons. The government also started raiding bases and compounds held by these rogue militia, to the general approbation of the people.

9) On September 12, during press conference in the Rose Garden called in response to the attack, President Obama said:

"...no acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done."

Whether he meant that to mean he did view the incident as a terrorist act or not is up to personal interpretation.

First, 4 Americans were not 'murdered'. Stevens and Smith died of smoke inhalation, Doherty and Woods were killed while defending the CIA annex a mile down the road from the consulate while 30+ Americans were evacuated. And yes, support was sent:

Phone calls were made to the embassy in Tripoli, the Diplomatic Security Command Center in Washington, the Libyan February 17 Brigade, and a U.S. quick reaction force located at a second compound (the annex) a little more than a mile away. Ambassador Stevens telephoned Deputy Chief of Mission Gregory Hicks in Tripoli to tell him the consulate was under attack. Mr. Hicks did not recognize the phone number so he didn't answer it, twice. On the third attempt Mr. Hicks answered the call from Ambassador Stevens.

Diplomatic Security special agent Scott Strickland secured Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith, an information management officer, in the main building's safe haven. Other agents retrieved their weaponry and tactical gear from another building. They tried to return to the main building but encountered armed attackers and retreated.

The attackers entered the main building and rattled the locked metal grille of the safe haven. They carried jerrycans of diesel fuel, spread the fuel over the floor and furniture, and set fires. As thick smoke filled the building, Stevens, Smith, and Strickland moved to the bathroom and lay on the floor, but they decided to leave the safe haven after being overcome by smoke. Strickland exited through the window, but Stevens and Smith did not follow him. Strickland returned back several times but couldn't find them in the smoke; he went up to the roof and radioed other agents.

Three agents returned to the main building in an armored vehicle; they searched the building and found Smith's body, but not Stevens.

A quick reaction force from the CIA annex arrived and attempted to secure the perimeter and locate the ambassador but were unable to find Stevens in the smoke-filled building. The team then decided to return to the annex with the survivors and Smith's body. While en route back to the annex, the group's armored vehicle was hit by rifle fire and hand grenades. The vehicle was able to make it to its destination with two flat tires, however.

Diplomatic security officers informed their headquarters in Washington about the attack just as it was beginning at about 9:40 local time (3:40 PM Eastern Time). By 4:30 Eastern, Pentagon officials informed Defense Secretary Leon Panetta about the attack. The Pentagon ordered an unmanned aerial vehicle that was in the air conducting surveillance on militant camps to fly over Benghazi. The drone arrived at 5:11 and began providing a video feed to Washington. At 5:41, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton telephoned CIA Director David Petraeus to coordinate. The CIA, which made up most of the US government's presence in Benghazi, had a ten-member security team at its annex and the State Department believed that this team would assist the consulate in the event of an attack.

Doherty and Woods were at the CIA annex that was assaulted around 4 AM that morning--three hours after Ambassador Stevens'death. Doherty and Woods were never at the Embassy that night, the Embassy was 400 miles away in Tripoli.

After the consulate attack and before the annex attack, Libyan government forces met up a group of Americans (believed to be eight reinforcements from Tripoli) that had arrived at the Benghazi airport and went with them to the CIA annex at about 4 am to assist in transporting approximately 32 Americans at the annex back to the airport for evacuation. As they were at the annex arranging for the transportation back to the airport a single shot rang out, quickly followed by RPGs and then a mortar that hit the annex roof killing Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods while operating their machine gun while Ubben suffered shrapnel injuries and several broken bones. According to Ubben's father, "The first [mortar] dropped 50 yards short and the next two were right on target."

To this day McCain has a HOLD on the documents from the investigation. 134 American Sailors lost their lives in that fire and John was transfer-ed off the ship the same day. But, in the future where we can close our embassies and consulates and remove our diplomatic staffs when civil war breaks out in the host country. Even this precautionary action can assure our diplomatic staff absolute safety should they come under fire at the onset of civil war or a surprise attack.

There are no absolutes in safety, or in war, or in peace and certainly not in a single desriptive word.

Yes, Guantanamo Bay is still open and running for the simple fact that no one can figure out what to do with the people inside. Some are clearly guilty; but there are some who were handed over to the us as terrorists by their country in an effort to get rid of political dissidents. The day after the attack, Obama sent two warships to Libya, armed with those terrorist-killing Tomahawk missiles. The report you describe came from a Libyan source, which may or may not be partisan. Given the political points alone that Obama would get if he actually killed those guys, I very much doubt our guys were (or are) sitting on their hands.

The diplomatic party requested an extension of the SST's team's deployment to Libya, which the State Dept refused to do saying they needed to develop ties with the locals. However, a security team was available at a CIA annex about a mile away from the consulate in Benghazi. When the attack began, two members of Stevens' security detail locked him and Smith in a panic room while they went to retrieve weapons; however by the time they got back with weapons and tactical gear the consulate was filled with smoke. They found Smith's boy but not Stevens; they retreated from the burning building and headed back to the CIA building.

A mortar went off, killing them and crumbling the roof of the building, but the rest of the Americans were evacuated safely.

The majority of the Bush administration members and prior members asked Bush to grant them immunity from any and all criminal acts they were involved in under his administrations leadership. They prodded him to do so right up until the day he left office and he did not give it to them. He felt safe with the Supreme Judicials he had planted into the Supreme Court. This next four years will see at least 3-4 newly seated Justices. Bush and his henchmen may yet see charges brought against them once this has happened. That will negate the republican majority in the SCOTUS and hopefully Obama seats 3-4 young liberal justices and not one single republican swinging justice.

Secondly, she specified what she had heard was from 'unofficial reports':

Let me ask you question--why fuss about it now, more than a year and a half after she made the comment? if there was any indiscretion committed, it would have been handled at the time and should be a non-issue now. Qaddafi is dead, his regime over.

News articles and reports from reporters ho talked to eyewitnesses specified they saw the militants responsible gathering people to protest the film. One of the the attackers beat up a member of the Libyan security team claiming the Libyan military guy was an 'infidel protecting infidels who insulted our prophet'.

Yes, they were later proved to be members of an al-Quaeda splinter group, but there was eyewitness evidence that could lead one to make a reasonable assumption that a protest about the film was involved. And if a military operation against the splinter group was in the works, then informing that splinter group that we knew it was them could alert them to the fact that we cold retaliate and they would have evaded us. By sticking to the story that it was about the film, we would look clueless to the extremists responsible and while they were watching the TV and laughing at us, we would be sneaking up their back door.

But then the people of Benghazi took matters into their own hands and conducted their own assault on the militants, while crying for justice for 'Libya's Friend' Chris Stevens.

So no, I believe it wasn't for 'political reasons', it was to protect the integrity of a military investigation/operation. But when the people of Benghazi threw out the militants of their own accord, there was no need to hide it further and shortly after the militants had been driven out of Benghazi on Sept 22, the administration officially called it terrorist act.

Since she was part of the lie about the Benghazi fiasco , she is part of it. She went to 5 News Channels to mislead Americans blaming a video, when they already had information that it was an AlQaeda attack.

Ayotte, too, said she was "more troubled" after meeting with Rice and Acting CIA Director Mike Morrell than she was before the meeting. She questioned why Rice would have relied on unclassified CIA talking points in her TV interviews on Sept. 16.

Because she should have been publicly discussing the content of classified reports, that way Ayotte would have a real reason to be troubled. All this fumbling around for something to smear with must be getting tiring.

Why does expecting/demanding the truth from our administration matter who won or lost an election?

There are various word used to describe the act of a human being dying at the hand of another or by the direct actions of another; murder in the first, second, and third degrees; manslaughter in the first, second, and third degrees; involuntary/negligent homicide in the first, second or third degrees. (It's why the lead investigator in George Zimmerman's case initially ruled it negligent homicide, since intent to deliberately kill could not be proven.)

I would ague that it rests on intent, and intent would have to be proven--as the militants are not around to explain themselves, no intent to deliberately kill can be proven. And in any case, what i call it and what you call it will be different as we see things differently. Bottom line...Ambassador Stevens and Smith died of smoke inhalation, and Doherty and Woods gave their lives to help their fellow Americans evacuate safely.

What Rice said was false. Not just false but known to be false at the time she said it. I will grant that she might not have known that what she was saying was false because she didn't have any first hand knowledge of the event. Which raises another question - Why was she the spokesperson for the Administration? Why wasn't the State Department Communications person out there? Why wasn't Hillary? Why wasn't the National Security spokesperson? Why would you trot out the UN Ambassador who had no direct involvement with the event?

Rice either is a party to the lie or was used as a dupe. What ever it is she has been damaged beyond repair and should be blocked from being Secretary of State.

I found this article from reporter Ethan Chorin. He was probably the last person to talk to Stevens alive, and he was in Benghazi the night of the attack, and witnessed the reactions of the Libyans firsthand. He knew the Ambassador personally, from long acquaintance, and his words are eloquent and powerful, and I agree with him:

ON Wednesday morning, my colleagues and I were to meet in Benghazi with J. Christopher Stevens, the American ambassador to Libya, to discuss a plan for a new division of emergency medicine at Benghazi Medical Center, the largest and most modern hospital in eastern Libya. The meeting never took place. The night before, militants laid siege to the American Consulate in Benghazi, killing the ambassador and three other Americans. The ambassador was taken, without a pulse, to the hospital we hoped to upgrade.

The draft agreement we were working on was the kind of visionary effort to improve life in Libya that Ambassador Stevens liked — in this case, a collaboration between doctors in Boston and Benghazi, brokered by a nongovernmental organization that a Libyan-American and I had organized after the recent revolution. Our goal was a center that could also serve as a training facility for all of eastern Libya. It was the kind of public-private and Libyan-American partnership that Ambassador Stevens believed could help Libya move beyond decades of stagnation and despotism.

On Tuesday night, even as the men who would kill him were closing in, Ambassador Stevens told us by phone how happy he was that the project was nearing fruition. He told us it was important to show our government’s support for such initiatives, and we made plans to meet with the medical center’s director general, Dr. Fathi al-Jehani, at the hospital the next morning. Dr. Jehani himself had been a target of violence for his forward-thinking views.

About half an hour later, I called the ambassador’s security detail to discuss the visit, only to hear the words “we’ve got a problem here” — with an alarming expletive inserted. The line went dead. And we were left to listen helplessly as the sounds of distant violence carried across the city to our hotel room — a long rocket-propelled grenade volley, and machine-gun fire that continued for the better part of an hour.

Ambassador Stevens arrived after midnight at Benghazi Medical Center, where we were to have met. Its emergency room staff, which included Libyan expatriates who had returned from well-paid jobs abroad, worked for 45 minutes to try to resuscitate him. It was no use.

The tragedies of this situation simply compound one another. For a forthcoming book about the Libyan revolution, I have interviewed scores of current and former Western officials, many of whom were either pessimistic about or indifferent to Libya’s growing pains. In their eyes, Libya continues to be a sideshow of the broader Arab Spring.

Ambassador Stevens did not agree. I discussed Libya’s future with him last spring in a Washington cafe, as he awaited confirmation as ambassador. He had already been the deputy chief of mission in Libya, and he had been the United States envoy to Benghazi during the dangerous early days of the revolution. So he knew Libya, and he believed that it could become one of the first full success stories of the Arab Spring — that Islamic radicalism there could be nipped in the bud if Western governments acted decisively to put the country on a path to stability and social progress.

Now, his death may derail the very processes he championed.

Mr. Stevens understood that Libyans had suffered under Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, and that conflict and post-revolutionary instability were to be expected. He also understood that some, if not all, of the hatred that had pushed some of Libya’s youths to join radical factions in Afghanistan and Iraq had sprung from years of neglect and oppression. Now, he felt, new opportunities needed to be created to wean these people away from ideologies rooted in hate.

No doubt that was one reason he made a point, as ambassador, of continuing to visit Benghazi, the East’s largest city, despite the clear risks; there had been attacks on other high-level diplomats there in the previous months. It is a mystery at this point why the consulate compound was so lightly fortified, but I would not be surprised if Mr. Stevens had decided to stay overnight in Benghazi simply because his list of planned meetings with Libyans there was too long to be accomplished in one afternoon.

The morning after the attack on the consulate, my colleagues and I returned to the medical center, where we witnessed an outpouring of sadness and, as one physician put it, shame. The emergency room staff members who worked to save Mr. Stevens broke down in tears, as did the physician in charge. Some knew or had met Mr. Stevens; some had not. But all were aware that he had been a champion of Libya, and of Benghazi in particular, and that his death may have rolled back Benghazi’s stupendous revolutionary accomplishments by months — even if it does not set off a period of heightened instability in eastern Libya. Many Libyans outside the hospital also offered condolences and expressed profound regret for America’s loss.

In the West, we can now expect a strong temptation among governments and private enterprise to declare the Libyan experiment a failure, and to respond by disengaging, retreating or focusing only on the extirpation of radical elements. That would be a terrible mistake. The attack has already entered into the American presidential debate in a base fashion, with Mitt Romney’s first instinct being to criticize President Obama over the timing of his denunciation of the attack. But Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton got it right when she spoke of the Libyan people as allies in the fight against extremism.

The gravest mistake would be for the United States to write off Libya as an irredeemable terrorist haven, or for politicians in Washington to regret having intervened in support of Libya’s rebels. Libya is still far better off today than it was under Qaddafi. The grip of fear has been broken. Election posters festoon the country. Election schedules have been met. And there is a rich expression of individual opinions.

Nevertheless, the Libyan people need support to consolidate gains, and to continue a fight against largely foreign-financed radicals who wish to hijack the revolution in the name of intolerance. And the United States must help the Libyans do that. The loss of Ambassador Stevens will, I hope, goad the Libyan government into matching its discipline about election schedules with far bolder steps to crack down on extremists and disarm the country’s militias. And Libya should press the American government for even more support in that effort, even as it encourages American organizations to find common cause with their Libyan counterparts to improve the lives of Libya’s citizens.

This week the United States lost one of its most admirable public servants, and I can report that at least some Libyans are profoundly aware that the loss is theirs as well. As we arrived at the airport under armed escort, a member of the airport ground crew said: “Today I will go home, I will take off these clothes, and I will put on only black. As a Libyan, I am so sorry this has happened.”

This has a lot more to do with the GOP's "concern" about a Hillary presidential run in 2016 than it does with anything that happened in Benhazi.

There was no lie. Our consulate was attacked. The attackers told the locals that the attack was because of the video. The locals joined in. When our guys got there, there was a protest over the video going on. That led our intelligence agencies to entertain the possibility, as Petraeus testified, that the attackers hijacked a protest. This was the info given to Rice. Shortly thereafter the CIA determined that the attackers started the protest, not the other way around. That information was immediately given to the press. The consulate employees would have seen both an attack and a protest. If they heard anything at all, they would have heard that the situation was caused by the video. There is no reason to think they were in a position to clarify the situation for the CIA. From a Times report in mid-October:

" ...eyewitnesses have said there was no peaceful protest against the video outside the compound before the attack, though a crowd of Benghazi residents soon gathered, and some later looted the compound. But the attackers, recognized as members of a local militant group called Ansar al-Shariah, did tell bystanders that they were attacking the compound because they were angry about the video. They did not mention the Sept. 11 anniversary. Intelligence officials believe that planning for the attack probably began only a few hours before it took place."

Petraeus testified that the points Rice received were precisely what the intelligence community thought at the time. The only thing she didn't say was that we knew who the attackers were. She didn't say that because it was classified information related to an ongoing military operation to kill them. And yes, many republicans - including many on this thread - think that the fact that she didn't divulge that information means she was lying.

His report was changed by the time it got to Rice but Rice did see the classified report that stated the attack was the work of an al Qaeda affiliate.

This was precisely what our intelligence agencies believed happened in the immediate aftermath of the Benghazi attack. This is why Rice - following our intelligence agencies - said that this appeared to be a protest over the video that was hijacked by 'extremists'.

Our guys decided soon after that the story was wrong, in that there were in fact no protests until after the attack. When they made that call, they told it to the press - more than a month prior to the election. There is no reason, political or otherwise, to think that the first story was a lie.

I suspect Rice's questioning GOP critics were judgmentally projecting their own weaknesses, onto her. its a bad habit amongst people wired with conservative mindsets.

As for Rice's narrative analysis, intelligence gathering parallels a scientific methodology. You revise your assumptions based on what evidence you have. New evidence, as it comes in by further research, changes the hypotheses, and generates more questions of which puts older evidence in doubt. This invites more research.

Politically conservative minds look for unchanging conclusions, and so they do not understand this process. They quickly, emotionally and illogically fault the person that corrects their assumptions or hypotheses, when they consider the new evidence that has come forth that alters their perceptions as to the what, whys and hows. This is why conservatives do not make good detectives nor do they make good scientists. They are inflexible.

This is why I suspect that those GOP congressmen that embrace their critiquing prejudices, went away unsatisfied with the interview they gave her, because they did not understand Rice's chronological answers to their "leading" and "loaded" questions.

Yes, locals. Eyewitnesses. People who were outside the consulate prior to the attack beginning.

There were no CIA operatives at the consulate prior to the start of the attack. There were seven people in the consulate that night; Smith, Stevens, and four members of a diplomatic security team. Once the attack began and the CIA annex a mile away received a call from the consulate for assistance, they came out. They found Smith's body, but not Stevens and the smoke and flames forced them to retreat.

They got into their vehicle and headed back to the CIA annex building while under pursuit, made it with two flat tires. The CIA operatives were in the process of evacuating everyone in the annex when the second attack began, and that was when Woods and Doherty were killed when a mortar went off on the roof where they were manning macine guns to lay down cover fire for the evacuation.

So at the time that the CIA came up to the consulate in response to the diplomatic team's call for help, no, there would not have been a protest in the streets. But with eyewitness testimony that a couple of the militants were seen an hour before the attack actually started trying to incite passersby into a chant against the film, and with one of the Libyan guards' own testimony that a militant beat him while accusing him of being an 'infidel protecting the infidels who insulted the Prophet' yes, I find it eminently reasonable to think that a protest against the video was involved, incited by the militants so as to provide a cover for the consulate assault.

Also--according to Ethan Chorin of the NY Times, (who was in Benghazi that night in anticipation of a meeing with Ambassador Stevens in the morning) he spoke to Ambassador Stevens that evening after Stevens saw his last visitor--a Turkish diplomat. This would be really easy to confirm--just ask that diplomat if there was commotion outside the Embassy that evening. The Turkish diplomat reportedly left around 8:30 local time, the attack started 9:40 local time, so if, as the eyewitness said, a protest had been going on about an hour prior to the attack going off, the diplomat might have seen/heard something.

When they first arrived at the annex building, they reported that they were seperated from each other as well as from the ambassador and mistook the initial attack as being the rioters getting louder outside the embassy as they had been rioting since early in the afternoon. Ms. Rice never at any point lied and there most certainly was never a coverup. The farce of a coverup is just another stall tactic from the GOP. After some months he was moved to Baghdad and then to the Kurdish region where his testimony was taken by Kurdish leaders and broadcast over their radio. Eventually he was sent to the United States where I was able to witness his meeting with Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Very little has been done to chronicle the mass murder of Saddam’s regime. Estimates range from 180,000 Kurds slain to 400,000 including Shiites. They were non-combatants --children, women and unarmed men – killed because of their ethnicity or religious sect or politics.

But U.S. forces also invaded to put an end to the genocide of Saddam Hussein. The mass murder of hundreds of thousands of Kurds and Shiites was a crime against humanity and the international community was justified in ending it, even through the use of force.

All of the survivors were debriefed in Germany days before Susan Rices comments. The CIA operatives were at the second location just blocks away. Your stance that the administration took the word of so-called "locals" and ran with it for weeks AFTER the surviving consulate members gave information that completely debunked it is BEYOND LAUGHABLE. And there's a related issue, completely ignored. The GOP is always justifying its hatred for all muslims by stating that there are no moderate muslims, and claiming to know that because you never see them speak out. Well, the moderate muslims stood up here, and spoke loudly. And it was moving, because unlike the despicable, hate spewing right, they actually risked their butts by standing up. My guess is that this is the issue that Chris Stevens would want the attention on.

Just as irrelevant is the hyped up search for information about Amb. Rice going on news programs. The fact remains she was given the talking points memorandum of unclassified information. Th military code of conduct, according to a Vietnam-era intelligence analyst I spoke to and my own research, is that no special favors are to be accepted in exchange for information. In that report, McCain was quoted describing the number of aircraft in his flight, information about rescue ships, and the order of which his attack was supposed to take place.

That would be a violation of the Code of Conduct. Now, as I was not there I can't judge, but dislike of him is pretty clear among many of the Vietnam-era vets I've had the privilege of speaking to and the shadow of controversy is enough to raise doubt (for me.) While I would not go so far as to call his actions in Vietnam 'treason', as many of these veterans do, I respect their right to consider him a traitor in their eyes.

But on a completely separate note, the Constitution of the United States declares that 'no person' shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. It doesn't differentiate between legal or illegal, citizen or not, terrorist or innocent, it simply says 'No person'.

Section 1028-1031 of the NDAA for FY2012, which John Mccain wrote along with Carl levin, allegedly in secret, states that the US military has the authority to detain any person suspected of terrorism without any charges being filed, indefinitely, until the War on Terror is over. The original wording of the section as John McCain and Carl Levin wrote it stated that detention was mandatory for everyone, whether USC or not; President Obama said he would veto it until the wording was changed to 'discretionary' detention for US citizens.

(However, note that it had already passed the House by a vote of 96-32, and passed the Senate 93-7. President Obama could have vetoed it and it still would have passed since it had the 2/3 majority vote in Congress required to override a Presidential veto. There was nothing President Obama could do to stop it.)

Indefinite detention without charge or trial is blatantly unconstitutional,and in my opinion anyone involved with writing and passing that travesty is a traitor to their oath as public elected officials to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Therefore, John McCain is in my eyes, a traitor.

During the VietNam War, McCain was a pilot of a US Navy Fighter-bomber. One day when there was a mission to fly to North VietNam on a bombing mission, McCain came onto the deck of his aircraft carrier and climbed into the cockpit of his jet fighter, as did another 14 pilots.

McCain accidentally hit the wrong button and fired a rocket across the deck, which struck several other jet fighters and exploded. Fuel pods on the jets blew up, bombs began to blow up,along with machine gun bullets, and very quickly the deck it self was burning.

McCain scampered out of his cockpit and ran down inside the Carrier to safety as his crew, and other crews and pilots began trying to extinguish the blaze. Over 100 men died in the fire, but McCain was downstairs, watching a movie when found.

Just ...wow. I'm not sure if you genuinely don't know what happened or if you are deliberately lying to everyone for some reason. As a 13 year Navy vet, the Forrestal Fire was caused by an electrical surge, NOT from someone pushing a button and firing a missile. Not to mention, McCain was NOT in the aircraft that launched the weapon. That was an F4B Phantom. McCain flew the A4E Skyhawk.

But I am of the opinion he should not even be in office, having amply demonstrated his inability to remain faithful to his oaths. If he will accuse Susan Rice for betraying her oath to serve the public interest, then he should look at his own betrayal of oaths to serve the public interest.

My viewpoint of him as a traitor has somewhat less to do with his time in Nam (although the opinions of other Vietnam-era POWs, like my Dad, has colored my perceptions a bit) but my main reason for viewing him a traitor has rather more to do with the fact that he has violated his oaths to uphold the Constitution and serve the best interests of the people who voted him into office.
