Congressman Ron Barber has won a full term in the House. He was an aide to Gabrielle Giffords and was wounded in the shooting in Tucson.
TUCSON, Ariz. - Democratic U.S. Representative Ron Barber, a former aide to Gabrielle Giffords who was wounded alongside her in a deadly 2011 shooting, has won a full term in Congress after defeating Republican Martha McSally in a closely contested race.
Barber, 67, who won a special election in June to finish out Giffords' term, said McSally called him on Saturday morning to concede. They were running in the November 6 election to represent southeast Arizona in the state's redrawn 2nd Congressional District.
McSally confirmed on her Facebook page that she called Barber to "congratulate him on his victory."
The contest was too close to call on election night last week and officials have since counted tens of thousands of provisional ballots cast in the race, as the lead swung back and forth between the two candidates.
Barber had a 1,402-vote lead as of Friday night and he claimed victory as the last ballots were being counted. More than 285,000 votes were cast.
"It's been a long wait, but here we are," Barber told reporters on Saturday. "Ultimately, people saw a difference between us about the issues that are important."
In her Facebook message, McSally said: "While this particular battle is over, I still have a fire in my belly to make a difference and serve our community and country. I look forward to seeing where that call to duty takes me next."
Barber was shot in the face and thigh on January 8, 2011, when Jared Loughner opened fire at an event outside a Tucson supermarket where Giffords was meeting with constituents. Six people were killed in the shooting spree and 13 were wounded, including Giffords with a shot to the head.
Loughner, who had a history of psychiatric disorders, pleaded guilty in August in federal court to 19 charges, including murder and attempted murder. He was sentenced on November 8 to seven consecutive life terms plus 140 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
Barber was the front-runner going into the race. Early votes and an endorsement from Giffords bolstered his campaign. McSally, 46, a retired Air Force colonel and combat pilot, emerged on election night with a lead that put her thousands of votes ahead.
That lead evaporated as the final ballots were counted.
The Republicans retained control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the November 6 election.

That was a real nail-biter. I guess McSally will need to cut short her U.S. Congress freshmen orientation.
I didn't see that coming - McSally had a comfy lead on election night. So they count us early voters ballots last - interesting.
I live in Tucson - that must be a County race, otherwise half of the city of Tucson voted, the county is a little over 1mil.
I'm just glad Jessy Kelly dropped out.
Now fix our gawd dammed roads - wonder how that vote turned out...probably tied to a bunch of other crap and it failed (prop 405 or something like that).
BTW; did we vote to take the Grand Canyon away from the Feds - hope not.
JP you mean you never noticed that about the only close race a GOP candidate has won in the 2000's was Bush 43 in 2004 in Florida. Where Gore would still be trying to find more votes in just a few heavily democrat districts in Florida if 43 hadn't had the grits to say wait, you can't do that by law. You have to recount all districts the same way. He got called a cheater for standing up for what is right.
2008 there were 6 contested races, the most infamous was the Minnesota Senate. The incumbent had apparently won by 200 votes. By claiming voter irregularites in a handful of heavy democrat precincts, Al Franken won, by having only those precincts include the undervote making total of votes exceeding the number of people who signed in to vote. Undervotes are ballot rejected because of irregularities or set aside because some believed they made a mistake on their ballot and are given a fresh one. Counting those ballots will include people's votes who did vote and some who voted several times. BTW, studies show that if you count the undervote for all precincts, the election results are exactly the same as if no undervote is counted.
One other thing. In Minnesota it is illegal for convicted felons to vote, and are only prosecuted only if they acknowledge knowing that it was illegal for them to vote. This year Minnesota was busy prosecuting over 400 of the just over 1200 convicted felons who voted in 2008. No state has less than 65% of convicted felons voting for democrats. Some states up to 90% of felons vote democrat. That is another 400 - 1090 votes for a democrat that should not have occured in 2008.
The big problem with people inelligible to vote, is that there is no way to know how they really voted. Only statistic can give us an idea how they swayed an election.
I'm in shock - we passed our Roads Repair Bill 409 (not 405) by 583 votes!
@DB Akron
I'm sure that you have evidence that all these "convicted felons" were still on probation or parole, correct. It seems that a felon in Minnesota only loses the right to vote until he completes his term and any probation/parole.
Still mad that Franken won, huh?
DB Akron = fail
I just checked the election results for Arizona and most of them were very close with the majority of those elected being Republicans.
My comment on early mail in voters being counted last has nothing to do with your reply.
DB Akron
When you pick and chose little tid bits and spin them it almost sounds good. Lets talk about Florida, the thousands of voters that were purged from the voting roles in 2000. Less than 10% of those purged were not eligible to vote, the rest were re-instated after the election. Why is it that Florida democratic districts have the fewest voting places and the longest lines? I know it makes a great talking point about recounts in a few districts. The problem was those were the ones that had counting issues due to not enough and old equipment.
The other thing, not all states withhold voting rights from felons. When their time has been served they can once again vote. Lets not forget the company hired to register voters in Florida this year. When they encountered a filled out registration marked "prefer Democrat" the threw out the registration and thats a federal crime.
In 2000 the SCOTUS gave Bush the presidency which goes against the US Constitution. By the way GWB lost the popular vote by over Half a Million Votes in 2000.
Its getting closer all the time..use to be cool with the tools..now I know its a House rule..give a few and the mid terms is true..we be done with all the fools.
Hillary2016
ROTFLMAO!!!
That's not Ron Barber. That's Colonel Sanders!
Said it when Giffords got shot, so Ill say it again. Jared may as well be the "face" of the republican party.
Actually Barber is Colonel Sanders offering free chicken and fries with soda to any that votes for him. No doubt many "gimme" freebies took the offer..............................how else was this election won including the presidential race.
@rockymtnroustabout, except for the fact that Jared was a registered Democrat, you might have had a point.
@Tad,
I guess it depends on how big you like your crooks. Republicans would give billions in gifts to rich donors under the guise of tax reform. If the lie is big enough, some people will believe it.
Mike277 - Obama is running for a third term in 2016. The republican party is an outlaw party in 2018, marshall law is declared, republicans will be rounded up as anti progressive. Firing squad will start opperating 2019 and there will be no election in this country ever again. Mark this day, mark my words, this will be so!! Did you know they are issuing dollar coins the size of quarters that are missing the words' "In God We Trust". End is near!!! And jumping, enjoy that free Obama phone???
Tad, lower and lower tax rates isn't a "give away" in search of votes? I'd say there are a few "gimme" freebies going to the right, too. The presidential race (and others) was won because the American people voted to not accept the right's class warfare any longer.
More importantly, why is the media barely covering the Jeff Flake vote count and provisional vote scandal in the same state of Arizona.
@ sweaver209: thanks for the chuckles- sly ironic sarcasm neatly packaged in a bit of satire was a treat...
If that wasn't your intention, thanks regardless!
Not sure what "Marshall Law" is, but I'm sure it goes hand in hand with "whirled peas"!
Democrats are celebrating the loss of Martha McSally and doing everything they can to cheat Allen West.
TALK ABOUT RACIST AND ANTI-WOMEN?!
It's the Democrat Party. The party of segregation, the Klan and of filibustering women's suffrage and the Civil Rights Act.

Sorry to burst your partisan bubble lie... Jared Laughner was a registered Independent!
sweaver,
Run...don't walk to your nearest wholesale club and buy all the aluminum foil you can. If you're a typical teabagger, I suspect there's going to a huge run on that item. Use your "God-less" quarter-sized dollar coins while you can!
The Democrat takeover of America is under way.
You American patriots won't be able to stop us now.
The left has spent decades working at this and we won't stop...ever, until we have a global socialist government whose laws supersede the U.S. Constitution. Treason you say? Well sure, but you'll never get that to stick. We have placed enough Supreme Court justices that no one will even mention the "T" word. A group of treaties are now awaiting the right time to be implemented by Barack Obama and the Democrats. They include an international small arms treaty (that would supersede our own 2nd Amendment), limit America's right to drill off it's shores and even a global income tax.

We have the media machine. If you disagree with us, we will call you haters, racists, and anything we like, and the people will believe it because they will be inundated with that message and scarcely any other.
The early 20th century Marxists couldn't interest Americans in their ideals because the people were too independent and still believed in limited government.
So, we leftists changed the population. The Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 switched the flow of immigrants from mostly Western European countries to mainly third world countries. These people were dissimilar others culturally and racially and would not be sympathetic to American tradition or heritage, and in most cases, already had a real dose of jealousy at how Americans lived. LBJ's Great Society also subsidized single parent households with welfare programs for each child, which fostered an explosion of the population of black single-parent households who would vote Democrat to ensure more welfare spending. They were the ideal Democrat voters, and they had high rates of reproduction. It would take less than 50 years to shift to a majority of voters who would vote socialism in and independence and the traditional American way out.
This was a re-districted election. The orginal district was Cochise Countym where McSally won by allmost a 2 to 1 margin. The re-districted area was a small portion of Pima County just outside Tucson where Barber took the vote.
In Cochise County 62% of registered voters did so. In the Pima County portion of CD2 78% of voters did so. Which is way over the state, local and national voter percentages. What a coinkydink.
Jonny R Goode = typical gloating, snarky lib comment, complete with the obligatory insult (I think it's a complusion). You know, the Dems won an election...one election....and are acting like its a historical first; and it was actually a damned close election! So, guess what?...the rest of us aren't going to all of a sudden change our basic beliefs; too bad, huh? As for the juvenile gloating, we'll just wait patiently until the White House Santa Clause's fairy land economy goes to hell, and then maybe we'll gloat right back at'cha. It's already begun, you know; Boeing 800,000 jobs lost, Hostess Bakery 18,500 lost, Applebees and Papa Johns converting permanent positions to part time......good luck with that trend, Santa!
Tad. You sound a TAD BITTER. LOL
sweaver209, if it is the end of the republican party it sounds good to me. Anyway we eliminate those unamerican freaks is ok by me.
@Darryl
You sir, are an ignorant liar. Jared Loughner was a registered Independent. My source is the Pima County Registrar's Office.
You know, where they keep the voter rolls?
I thought you RWNJs learned from the election that spewing lies makes you lose. But I see some of you continue with the same behavior.
excellent...it would be better if Allen West loses in Florida - more meaningful. West sure bet will lose. .....The party is over for Tea Potty.
.
FORWARD...
Dangerous Mind - Wake up to reality(mild slap administered to side of your face)! No, amount of elections will ever stop their lies until the GOPhers evaporate into nothingness. On that day, true freedom and our Liberal patriotic hearts will swell and our goosebumps will be the size of "Godless" quarters. Now, its your turn to slap me on side of my face and say "Wake up to reality"! We both can dream though. Can't we?
@ sweaver209 - Hope you haven't jumped yet. Let me know if your still around. You've got quite an imagination! Obama is running for a third term in 2016? The Republican party will be outlawed in 2018? Marshall law will be declared in 2018? Republicans will be rounded up as anti-progressive? Firing squads will start operating in 2019? There will never be another election in America again? Your dire predictions have been duly noted and saved in the hard drive and backed up on Carbonite for these specified future dates. Just wondering if these predictions are divinely inspired or just answers you have received by using your "Magic Eight Ball". Not that is matters in the least, should you still be with us, I have arranged for the "Good Humor" men, they'll be dressed in white, to pick you up and you'll be just be styl'in in your sporty & spotless formal straight jacket and will be whisked away in your own personal padded compartment & transportation vehicle, for your own safety of course. You new digs will be a posh and publicly paid for, thanks to Obama Care, resort named "Daze on Days Inns" Hoping you have done nothing rash but if so thanks for saving us millions. Hang in there! Oops! Hope he didn't take me too literally.
sweaver - you mean the Reagan phones, right?
lol. You kooks just kill me. :D
@1.5 -- J_P, I'm not sure where you got your info about Republicans winning closely contested races, but AZ is sending 5 Dems & 4 Repubs to Congress. It seems that with redistricing, two Dems won closely contested races.
Good luck Ron Barber. We miss Gabby, she was on the fast track before the sick one ended her political career. Everything I read about Ron Barber gives me hope that he will do good things for us Arizonans.
Barber will be fine ... there are at least 5 more Democrats next year in the House than this outgoing Congress ... in 2014...hopefully Democrats will take over the House, giving the gavel toy back for GrandMa Nancy to play with.
PBS recently premeired, "America by the Numbers" about the changing demographics of America.
Whereas 50-years ago the voter was primarily an elder white male, today's voices include those of women, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, and youth. A demographic that is growing larger with each passing census.
This isn't your grandpa's USA anymore.
Either the Republicans recognize this changing demographic and hear those voices, or they'll fade away.
Well lets hope they remaid deaf and blind
Yet this story is about an elder white Democrat male being elected over a woman military combat pilot Republican. Who needs to recognize the changing demographics?
3thirty3; most of the people who ran in Pima County were Latino and about half were women.
@3thirty3 - thanks for the info.
Which would lead me to believe that she lost because of the GOP platform she represents - the thesis of my initial post.
Pro-choice always wins with women. While there are women that support pro-life, it's never more than women that support pro-choice.
The GOP platform of course, is pro-life. Hence, one can conclude that a demographic she should have secured as a woman - the women - she more than likely did not.
3thirty3....
Point taken; it's the democrats that need to learn about changing demographics.
The right wing is way ahead of the curve. Here's hoping they remain exactly the same and don't change a thing.
This past election was simply a fluke. They should even run Romney & Ryan again in 2016. If you try something that doesn't work, double down on that sucker! Don't be a coward! Charge on! Ready....Shoot....Aim!
@HRDawg....it is true, the numbers do reflect a changing, but unfortunately, a sinking America. I don't see how the new demographics are going to return America to greatness (and I don't mean militarily). People have a tendency to hold on to what they perceive as better times, you are correct, and until Republicans come to grips with the new reality, we will be left in the lurch. Frankly, I don't give a damn.
NavadaJ Put down the bottle and start taking your Meds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rebuttal noted Larry in NC.
The GOP pillars of fiscal-responsibility and national defense are extremely popular with the electorate.
That they wrap that package with "God, guns, gays, and abortion" however, will now and forever more be their Achilles heel.
It doesn't have to be one or the other - support the 2nd amendment along with support for gun-controls, as an example - appeals more to the middle rather than simply seeking the conservative vote.
It is my hope that people stop talking about changing demographics and start talking about the fact that the Democratic Party has more to offer the American people. In case everyone has forgotten when the Democrats are in charge the government works on budget and more efficiently. Whats even better is that the Democrats pass laws that benefit everybody not just banks, corporations and rich people.
After over thirty years of seeing the Republican Party doing everything in their power to make the rich even richer, it looks like maybe just maybe the average American voter is beginning to wise up. It is way past time that we elect representatives that actually represent the us..............
I'm poor i don't have two nickels to rub together most of the time, so i don't want congress giving the little money i have away to folks who don't do anything but sit around all day. My taxes are worth more than that, I beat my self up trying to eck a living out of this Obama mess over the last four. I don't want to pay anymore taxes. How much clear does that need to be stated to the American public!!!
Another unbelievable post. If you do not have two nickels to rub together, I can assume you are not making over $250,000/year. This is the target for the possible increase in taxes. Also, the two nickels most likely puts you in the 47% per MittTwit, and you are a taker, not a payer. Most people I know are a lot better off from the last four years, and if you were from a Contributing State, you would see that. Biggest thing is to get over your President Obama hating attitude. He won, Mitt lost, get on with trying to improve yourself, your state, and your country.
Sweaver -- you are either lying or are ignorant. If you are so poor that you don't have two nickels to rub together, the amount of tax you pay is very minimal if at all. You don't have to worry about paying any more taxes because you won't whether there's a Republican or Democrat in charge.
However, if you're making over $250K, then your taxes will go up to help the government do the things we expect government to do. Fix the roads, hire cops, pay teachers, build schools, maintain the military (although we could spend a lot less on that), help people whose lives are decimated by storms, etc.
Are you poor or are you rich? If you are truly poor then you have been duped by the Conservative Entertainment Complex (David Frum's term). If you are rich, then you are trying to fool the poor people with your inane posts.
sweaver, you are a fool if you think the republicans are the party for you if you are poor. Tax and spend democrats is just right wing hyperbole, however borrow and spend republicans are a reality. If you only have two nickles, you don't pay taxes under the democratic plan. But republicans want everyone, whether they can afford it or not to pay taxes so that they can give those that make over $250000 a year a tax cut.
The Democrat takeover of America is under way.
You American patriots won't be able to stop us now.

VerY GOOD and speedy recovery. Those old raciest GOP/Tea Baggers will go to great extent to supress the liberials who want a more diverse society so all can live in harmony and peace. Thanks to your courage and vision Gabbie, Arizona will be a better place to live in the near future. You are a true fighter.
Weird you call diversity electing another old white guy. We all know theres not enough of those in congress. Yet dont vote for a woman. That makes sense.
Iambob - if you righties keep glossing over reality you will take another big blow in 2014 when we clean the House of all the GOP trash. Wise up are you will be disappointed again.
do you people realize what will happen if this becomes a one party counrty?Think about it.If either party focused on what they said they would do instead of bashing each other things would be alot better off in general.I find it hard to believe that intelligent people have nothing better to do.I for one will not accept being a national socialist
Rushless - You are just another nonthinking ideologue. You need to view national voting patterns county and precinct before showing your igorance.
The changing 'demographic' that is transforming the US into a piss-poor imitation of a European socialist country is that of a majority of its citizens now believe that the government should support them when they make the conscious decision to not support themselves.
"Changing demographics" does not mean NO "old white guys", it means "old white guys" do not have a "monopoly" say in politics - politicians are "diverse" with more ethnic backgrounds represented.
Demographers have been saying, and current birth stats hold this out, that in about 2 generations - "caucasion" will be the largest "minority". This is the case in CA now - the "white" ethnic classification is the largest minority group. Remember that Hispanics are a diverse classification already - some ARE "caucasion" - Spaniards are Europeans, like Justice Sotomayor. Plenty of Cubans were actually transplants from Spain, for example. Also, the "Arab" ethnic group are "Caucasian" - just not "Anglo-Saxon" white. A hundred years ago, coming through Ellis Island, Italians and Slavs (like Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, etc.) were considered by the populace as "colored" - not white enough for them.
It might be best to just move on, and get to that "happy place" where we are "not judged by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character".... Dr. King's prophetic words ring very true today.
The U.S. will not be an imitation of anything. That attempt by the right wing politics has been voted out. We can now start improving our social welfare for the betterment of all Americans and not for the rich to become the super-rich. We will now ,I hope truly start what the late President Johnson was interested in doing ,until they embroiled him in an unpopular war.He wanted to advance this country into a Great Society. We are not about to copy anyone . That is not the U.S.A. We are usually the leaders, but the Republican party want to send our 98%back to the eighteenth century.
I have lived in many places with many different types of people and I'm wondering: Do you really believe that a diverse society means the people live in peace and harmony?
I mean, all we ever hear about is racism and discrimination, violence, unfairness and prejudice between groups of people.
Compare a diverse society like ours to a homogeneous society like Japan. Who do you think has more social problems? Who do you think compiles a greater backlog of court cases of discrimination and hate crimes?
Also, it is undeniable that America's demographics have changed, but have you ever wondered why? Did the American people ever vote to change their demographics? Do you know how it happened or why?
Japan is not a good comparison. Sure they are all forced to walk lock step within the confines of their society - but they are not all happy about those social constraints - been there, related to some, and assure you - they are not. On my part, I MUCH prefer California, and the myriad of peoples that are here.
They have about half our population, crammed onto a series of islands comprising about the the mass of the state of California. That is partly why they tried to "branch out" to Korea and China, etc., in Asia. They are very wary of outsiders - Asian or not - and their nationalistic tendencies against non-Japanese are not a pretty sight.
As far as demographics in the US - that is an age old human migration story, since the beginning of human time. Since America is SO large, and we are/have been generally welcoming to immigration, not all immigrants are European.... the world's population is a majority "some shade of brown". Over time, beyond our lifetimes, and with modern day transportation abilities - well, that's just the way it is.
look at what demoncrats have done to illinois and crook county.i long for the days of jim edgar.
You forgot to mention republican George Ryan, who happens to be in prison for selling drivers licenses to unqualified drivers. I do agree with you about Jim Edgar, but I prefered Jim Thompson.
you forgot to mention blago and jj jr. big jim was ok , but i'll take edgar anyday.
The Politics of Chicago have been dominated by Irish Catholics, with politicians from the Cermak-Daley machine....since the early 1930s....
Pulled from Wiki for simplicity, the history of Chicago politics is largely Democratic "Chicago Machine", as it was known. The voters have to change that, but seems historically unlikely to happen any time soon. Probably the only difference today is the "Irish" part.
Good. More great news for Americans.
Congrats Mr. Barber and continued rehab Gabbie.
Congratulations to Barber. Anyone wounded by a madman while doing his job, who lives to tell about it, and who still has the desire to be in a high profile position after that, deserves a chance at public service. Sounds like the people in this district were lucky to have two good choices either way, too, as the other candidate was a retired combat pilot and officer.
In a related story in a political year, it seems that the GOP is doing a great deal of soul searching nationwide during their post mortems. One thing they really need to focus is their technology gap. Their robocall system and their hopelessly out-of-date and so-inaccurate-as--to-be-meaningless call lists, combined with their inability to use social media effectively, was pretty much the death knell. That plus, of course, their inability to offer a candidate representing a clear alternative to the Democrat. You can't defeat empty chair OB-ie on the issues with OB-ie lite. Romney is a principled man and a superb businessman, but to run him against a Democrat candidate whose main (though ironic) message to the sheeple is, "I hate rich people, don't you?" was a totally blind, deaf and dumb move. And to run a man whose earlier positions on many of the issues were near identical - what was that about? However, it is unlikely that the GOP will understand that, and likely the next incarnation will be to simply offer someone who is more closely a carbon copy and a parrot of the liberal candidate. That is not and will never be a winning strategy. The GOP needs to step back and find some principled positions on which they are willing to show leadership, not a mirroring of the liberals, otherwise the GOP will continue to march into irrelevancy. Clumsy and belatedly co-opting liberal positions will not help, as that ground is already taken. Show some spine and do what you can to get this drowning country back above the watermark.
The GOP didn't even come CLOSE to mirroring liberals in this election. The choices were starkly different.
Well, we thought the GOP was gone for good with Clinton in office - all it took was some oral sex to get the GOP back in the race - as fickle as voters are, I wouldn't be surprised to see the GOP back in the Oval Office some day.
Most Latinos are very conservative (Catholic) - if the GOP ever starts getting a clue and treats Latinos with respect, they could easily get their vote.
Rethuglicans don't treat anyone with respect, let alone respect people that may be a shade darker than they are.
First generation Mexican immigrants are fairly conservative. The subsequent kids coming up are like anyone else, a mixed bag of ideas - just like American Catholics are split on the conservative leanings, so are next generation Hispanics - even those Catholics who are Filipino (a lot in SoCal).
That said, having been a registered Republican for over 30 years, I'll not be back until the GOP gets rid of the Rush crazies and religious right wing American Taliban.
Romney couldn't wait to bad mouth the majority of the country who did not vote for him. NOT a way to win friends and influence people!
Arizona gained one more seat in the U.S. House since the 2010 U.S. Census, and now the Democrats hold five of nine seats from the state. Last year, our lovely governor fought tooth and nail to prevent an independent redistricting commision from redrafting the legislative district lines, knowing that the Dems would get more of a fair shake. Jan--no soup for you!!!
Lovely Governor! With the complexion of a used tea bag!
More like a raisin with that gnarly finger in the Presidents face, certainly a "lovely" wizened troll.
Cannot stand that woman. Hope the citizens of AZ get rid of ol' Jan.
So,
Is this Barber fellow as brain dead as who he's replacing??
Hey cool guy, it's a brand new district.
No, he is not "brain dead." He intelligently articulated his position during the campaign and convinced the voters to choose him. Next time, try posting something sensible, otherwise people might think you are brain dead.
Joseph E. Parent
So,
At first I was just going to ignore you as a babbling idiot. Then I realized you and your ilk are what energize the real Americans to vote out your kind. So keep posting your trash and help America get rid of the republican party you support.
Yep.
Interesting how brain dead democrats are wiping the floor with republican candidates.
Reminds me of a US Senate race in Missouri in 2000. Republican John Roberts got beat by a democrat that wasn't only just brain dead, he was completely dead. He died in a plane crash two weeks before the election.
Voters in Missouri were way ahead of the rest of America. They knew already that a dead corpse was a better choice than Roberts. It took the rest of the country another year to realize that.
Stay tuned for the mid terms in 2014 when we'll see Karl Rove dump a few hundred million into someone who'll be badly beaten by someone's pet goat.
Joseph is one of the many reasons why the GoP got shellacked this month. Remember the folks calling one shot in the head by a deranged individual "brain dead" are also those who support the Sarah Palins, Michelle Bachmanns and Ann Coulters of the world. "Brain dead" is a more apt term for the latter. Joseph represents those who can't tell the difference and then wonder why they lost...
Post 10 needs to go - what a rude @!$%#!
Joseph:: Ron is NOT "brain dead"-- not like YOU are. And neither is Gabby!
In Socal, we got rid of Bilbray(R), finally. He conceded a few days ago in a close race.
Joseph: That "brain dead" you are talking about has more brains than you will ever have.
You are a very spiteful individual, in other words, a piece of s**t.
In the next mid-term election, voters will purge house of the Republican obstructionists. Time to move forward.
Moving "forward" may indeed be very ugly.....we shall see
I certainly hope the voters do purge the tea party contingent of the republican in congress (most of them), along with replacing the Blue Dog Democrats with progressives. It's long past the time to move the U.S. into the 21st century instead of back to the 19th century.
AmPat & Rick, good... no, GREAT postings!
If you are a patriot I am the pope. You must be a negro lover. What would our founders think?
Racist, um, I mean "Angry" American - Wasn't it Jefferson who fathered children by an African-American woman? Apparently our founders weren't (Gasp Shock! Horror!) as afraid of the future as you are. By the way, nice hat and robe, you giving Mass today?
Jefferson, freed a handful of slaves upon his death, whereas Washington freed all of his. Jefferson even mortgaged his slaves to finance Monticello, Jefferson quite a complex man, nonetheless, a man of his time, although didn't stop him from from the human aspect with Sally Hemmings.
Jefferson did not free 2 of his sons with Sally Hemmings, as they were so "white", having manumission papers would have held them back. They moved on, passing as white. The other children were giving the proper papers to free them. I've toured Monticello, and it really was wonderful - for the times, extremely progressive in their treatment of those in bondage. As young teens, male slaves could pick a path of vocational training, which would serve them well in adulthood.
Remember, Jefferson's wife was very sickly, and did not live a long life. She brought Sally Hemmings with her upon marriage to Jefferson, who was likely her HALF SISTER. Jefferson could NOT legally marry Sally Hemmings, but once widowed, he never remarried. Sally Hemmings ran the plantation's domestic side, as any good wife of the day would have.
angryamerican55, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 5 of the Code of Honor.
Don't make racist remarks, please.
I'm totally shocked, I tell you! Democrat replaces a Democrat, unheard of!
Now, all we need is to totally open the borders, take the cap off debt and disband the military to complete the forward march to the rear.
please dont give them any ideas. I am sure they are thinking of it
In a heavily red state like Arizona? WHERE A WOMAN RAN OVER HER HUSBAND FOR NOT VOTING FOR ROMNEY? And where, telling from what happened a short time ago, they SHOOT Democrats for, well, being Democrats? Yeah, it's a shocker that a Democrat would even run.
Democrats replaced several Republicans too, gaining seats in both the House and Senate. Now President Obama truly has a mandate.
Glad to see at least one of my votes wasn't a waste. Too bad the presidential one didn't matter.
WOW would have been REAL news if they had announced that AN AMERICAN had won the race and to hell with the Party affiliation!!!! When those LOSERS that are in Washington decide to ACT like ELECTED officials SENT there to represent the PEOPLE of this country and NOT to support some LAME ASS excuse for a President, THEN these LIBERAL MORONS that are supposed to be UNBIASED MEDIA will HAVE something to write about. But until then I guess we will have to settle for their crappy piss poor excuse for journalism and the Attempts to destroy this country which THE MEDIA seems to be a part of.
Sounds like it's a great opportunity for you to create your own media outlet. Go for it! I'm sure it will be very transparent...like your brainless cranium.
At risk: I think you're at risk of being a danger to others. You need help.
The Dems..Played Her to get the Sympathy Vote ..She deserved Better. Her Plight should not have been used to elevate the DemocRats Ideals as much as she never should have been damaged by another perverted person's Ideals !
how does a state that heavily favored Romeny elect obama lovers like this guy and the bi sexual in district 9 ? It makes no sense just like Claire McCaskill winning ( yes aiken was stupid but she is a n word lover of obama and will vote lock step and barrel with him ) Tester wins in Montana and they hate obama there and a dem wins in north dakota despite obama being unpopular there,
Dont these morons remember what happened with Obamacare? Dems said "f**k you" to the voters "we need to hand that negro a win"
Uh, angryamerican55... you should go see your proctologist, b/c you are one sick mofu POS!
No doubt!
Hope your stress does a big # on your "Dick Cheney"!
The Republicans lied shameless about Obamacare in order to win in 2010. The Democrats lost because they did not counter those lies.
Well two years later the Dems wised up and the American people wised up, and the liars got the boot that they deserved.
Obamacare has its costs front-loaded. The costs are set to trigger early, while the most beneficial parts are phased in later. The Republicans insisted on this during bipartisan negotiations and the Democrats agreed in an attempt to be bipartisan. The cynical Republicans hoped to use the front-loaded costs to besmirch the bill and use it to win in 2012, and then repeal it before the beneficial aspects kick in, all of which do so after 2014.
Fortunately, this cynical and dishonest piece of political gamesmanship has failed. And Obamacare will become more and more popular the longer it stays in effect, and the true benefits come on line more and more.
angryamerican:: You are one sorry example of a human being! You are a racist bigoted azzhole. And so what if someone is gay, straight or bisexual. Their sexual orientation has NOTHING to do with their ability to do the job. And neither does their color have anything to do with their ability to do the job.
Your savior George W Bush is a white man, and look what a he11 of a mess he left the country in-- two UNFUNDED wars (and for what reason?), an UNFUNDED Medicare Part D program, came into office with a surplus and left office with a deficit larger than all New York and half of Brooklyn. But he is white-- and that is the only reason you voted for Mutt Robme.
Angryamerican, and I use the word american loosely. You are one of the reason the Rethuglican party is irrelevant anymore, and will become even more so because of the hateful and spiteful feelings toward everyone that's not old angry and white.
angryamerican: keep preaching that hate and the Dems will have the House in 2014.
i congratulate this democrat for his fair victory and i pray for him and his family. that however does not mean i am democrat.
Barber had that win coming. He filled in well for Giffords, he ran a decent election campaign, and he had to take a bullet to begin with just to have that opportunity.
There was no mass shooting in Tucson 01-08-2011; and contrary
to media reports no one was injured and no one was killed; it
was a fraud operation perpetrated by cowards then and currently
in the process of dismantling the U. S. Constitution and Bill of
Rights for the purpose of installing the Godless new world order.
AT:: There wasn't? Tell Gabby Giffords. Tell the parents of the 9-year-old who was killed. You should get your head out of your azz and don't make asinine remarks about something of which you know nothing.
I'm not going to suggest you check your brain-- after all, it isn't between your two ears. I'm sure you check it many times a day and don't know it.
You do realize that when you make your aluminum foil hats your supposed to keep the shinny side out ...right?
Mr. AT: I'm sure you claim there was no Holocaust too, right? Is your real name Achmadinijad? Somehow I'm picturing a guy with a shaved head, piercings in his nose and a Swastika tatooed on his forehead.
Ah yes, another fine member of the GOP 'base'.... Next election AT, I suggest you put lots of GOP signs in front of your trailer/camper and go to the local park and climb on a soapbox and proclaim your views in support of the GOP.
I just hope that a few from each party have the guts to actually work together to try to solve some huge problems, and make the fringes on either side look foolish.. I think Gabby is one of the best, by the way. And now they MUST work together, and Senator McMouth must shut up for a change
The Repubs will need Grover Norquist's permission. They can't use the bathroom without a note from him. They need to adhere to their oaths to the Constitution. Do they have the guts to tell Grover to stick it ?
Why is Grover Norquist still alive?
enough with the idiotic racist shots...remember Robert Byrd the KKK democrat.....remember it took the republicans voting for the civil rights bills so they would pass...Al Gores' dad didn't want to.....strange..I remember going to high school out west in the 60s...the ones who were racist were the black students...also that president you liberals hate so much...George Bush...he spent more money on aid to Africa than any president before him...I realize you don't want any facts so I'll expect the usual liberal name calling ect.
you're pretty old aren't you? well understand that the newer generations don't want to live in your old world and are moving forward. your methods are obscure and very outdated and that's why your party will continue to lose.
mcbeef, you need to Google the term "dixiecrat" !
The Democratic party changed. All of the Democrats who were racist bigots became Republicans. If the Republicans want to continue to exist, they will need to evolve. Too bad evolution is against their religion.
The Republican party, once a Grand Old Party when Lincoln was president, is no longer what it once was. First all the southern Democrats infiltrated the party and now the evangelical teabaggers are pounding the last nail into the coffin. Bah-bye.
What in the hell is Barber talking about with the comment, ultimately the voters saw a difference??????? You won by 1405 votes out of 285,000, you have already been serving the remaining term of Gabrielle Giffords term, so pretty much you were the incumbent, and the district is very much a Democrat district? What election were you watching Barber, obviously folks did not see much of a difference, and the only reason you got in, is the sympathy vote for Gabby Giffords went to you. Next election, you will be gone, so enjoy it now, after voters see that you are an Obama flunkie, you will be looking for a new job.
The term "sore loser" definitely applies to you. Hate much?
flylowguy, if your reasoning is correct, then Gabrielle Giffords should still be serving. I am just glad that people with your thought process can only vote once in an election, otherwise the country would be completely screwed up, instead of just 75% screwed up.
To many Obamie KoolAid drinkers in here ;;; be careful what you say ;; they be knocking at your door !!!! Only thing this election did was divide the country more !! GOD BLESS AMERICA;;hmmm can i say that ??? WE THE PEOPLE 2016
I am a Republican, and I am glad the TEA Party got smacked down. By 2014 we should have the Republican GOP Back in the hands of true Americans, otherwise the rest of the lying TeaBaggers will be gone. If you are posting on this site and you have not served in the military or served in a combat zone, I am guessing that your posts are created by someone who can read and write, and you remember cut and paste from your high school days.
I thought "they" would be kicking in peoples doors, taking their guns and ammo, and hauling them to concentration camps like Republicans promised would happen when President Obama won the LAST (08) election. Well? What happened to those "brownshirt stormtroopers" and "$10/gallon fuel" that were promised by Republicans if President Obama won the LAST election? Well?
daWolf, next time nominate Ryan and Palin. It's a sure bet !
amphiox, with the economy getting worse, who will pay for your beloved Obamacare?????? you??, you probably don't even have a full time job, probably take social services, and whine that you are entitled to more, screw Obamacare, and screw you.
Yes, affordable health care. Oh the humanity! Who would ever want (Gasp! Shock! Horror!) EVERYONE to be healthy?! I've had people like you in cubicles next to me. They complain about the "free rides" others get than spend their days chatting with their friends or playing games or, in one case, working on their churches web site. Can you imagine the public relations nightmare firing that guy would be? And you should have heard the guy. "Obama's a com-a-nist, minorities get a free ride! If you aren't pro-Bush you're not an American!" And he felt ill-used when he didn't get a raise! Talk about feeling entitled!
I know your type, you're afraid of the competition. If EVERYONE no longer worry about actually staying alive they might (Gasp! Shock! Horror!) be able to better themselves and then you'd actually have to start thinking and working rather than coasting and complaining. No more free pass. Tough luck, dude. Gonna have to actually work for a living instead of just show up and whine about Obama.
Without the AFC who nows pays for the "free" hospital visits? With health insurance people will be able to afford insurance. It will cost only a few dollars a month. Or, are you like Romney: just go to the hospital if you have a heart attack but have no insurance? Mittens says, it's OK because they have to treat you for free. right?
Mittens is full of sh!t.
