Chilly reception for McCain idea of special Benghazi panel

Sen. John McCain, R- Ariz., Thursday continued to raise questions about the Obama administration’s handling of the aftermath of the September attacks in Benghazi, Libya. In an interview on Today McCain said “it is either a cover-up or it is incompetence” for President Barack Obama to have continued to say as late as Sept. 25 that the attack on the U.S. consulate was a reaction to an inflammatory anti-Islamic video.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) discusses the Obama administration's handling of the aftermath of the Benghazi attack, accusing the president of "either a cover-up or incompetence." McCain also vowed to block any nomination of UN Ambassador Susan Rice for secretary of state to replace Hillary Clinton.

McCain told NBC’s Matt Lauer the most vital question that former CIA director David Petraeus must answer when he testifies Friday before both the House and Senate Intelligence committees is “why we were not prepared for this attack, where there was ample evidence, because of previous attacks and overwhelming intelligence information, that attacks were very likely on our consulate. There had been two (attacks) previously in April and June. On Aug. 15 they sent back a message that in the case a concerted attack they could not defend the consulate.”

McCain on Wednesday introduced a resolution to create a special eight-member select Senate committee to examine the attack on the consulate in which Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods, and Sean Smith, were killed.

But McCain’s proposal got a mostly chilly reception Wednesday from his several of his fellow senators NBC News spoke with, even from some Republicans who have been his allies in the past.

Lawmakers were shown real-time film of the assault on Benghazi, where Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports.

A State Department Accountability Review Board (ARB) is investigating the attack. That panel includes former Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Pickering and former Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen, now retired from the military.

But McCain argued that the Obama administration had no credibility to carry out an investigation of its own actions or inaction.

Joining McCain in calling for the special committee was Sen. Lindsey Graham, R- S.C., who said “a segmented, stovepiped investigation – where you have three different (Senate) committees going off in three directions and not comparing notes…is going to lead to failure.”

The bipartisan opposition to McCain's idea was rooted in the prerogatives of Senate committees that are already conducting their own investigations of the attacks. Senators serving on those committees defended their ability to conduct a thorough inquiry and seemed to see McCain’s efforts as potentially encroaching on their turf.

Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R- Ga., senior Republican on the Intelligence Committee, said Wednesday, "I told him (McCain) today that I'd just seen his resolution and I'm not sure whether it's not just a duplication of what we're doing."

Chambliss’s committee will hear testimony from acting CIA director Michael Morell and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about the attack in a closed session Thursday.

Another Republican on the Intelligence Committee, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina said, "Listen, I think it's way too early to be calling for a special committee. I think you've got to allow the structure we have of oversight to function. And I think that the Intelligence Committee is more than capable of handling this."

Another opponent to McCain was the top-ranking Republican on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who said of McCain’s proposal, "I really don't view it as being necessary. The Intelligence and the Homeland Security Committees are already investigating.”

Her committee got a briefing from CIA, FBI and State Department officials Wednesday. Collins  pointed out that “Sen. McCain is a valued member of the Homeland Security Committee and can play an important role in help us uncover the facts."

Another Republican, Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi, who serves alongside McCain on the Armed Services Committee, reacted to McCain’s proposal by saying, "I'm listening. There's merit in the suggestion, but I'm not wedded to that."

A Democrat in the Intelligence Committee, Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida, flatly rejected McCain’s proposal: "We have all the relevant committees, including the one that I sit on which is Intel. We're having a hearing on that tomorrow and he (McCain) sits on the Intel Committee as ex officio (as the senior Republican member of the Armed Services Committee)."

Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, who has been mentioned as possible replacement for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, opposed McCain’s idea Wednesday.

“What we ought to do is first let the ARB make its determinations,” Kerry told reporters. “I think everybody ought to just step back. There’s a serious process in place and Secretary Clinton has put it in place.”

He added, “I have confidence in Tom Pickering and Admiral Mullen to put facts together.”

One senator who did voice support for McCain’s idea of a special select committee was Sen. Jim Inhofe, R- Okla., who serves on the Armed Services Committee and is slated to be its ranking member in the new Congress.

Inhofe said the lack of protection at the consulate, despite Stevens’s requests for more security, was “inexcusable” and “it’s got to be investigated.” Stevens was killed in the attack. Inhofe said, “I knew Chris Stevens. He was a friend. He was in my office right before he went over there.”

Why would Petraeus know anything about the 9/11 attacks?

Perhaps McCain should provide this "ample evidence" he speaks of. From what I have seen the request for security came for the embassy in Tripoli, not the consulate in Benghazi.

Are you serious that blaming Israel and defending Israel will offer transparency and accountability for the four Americans that died in Bengazi? that is just about as thin a response as the attack was retribution for an obscure video that slammed Islam.

Blaming Israel is about as effective as the idea that Hillary Clinton or John Kerry would offer up any avenue to expose the failures that cost American lives in a country where we had recently empowered the Muslim Brotherhood to be a reasonable surrogate for democracy.

There were clear failures of this administration and our Government in Libya why are our leaders not willing to accept the responsibilities that created an atmosphere for this attack and ignored the security deficits in Libya. We owe it to our diplomats in other countries to take an investigation seriously and to lay the responsibility at the right feet to assure that this situation will not happen again.

Ah, the two poster boys of the New Republican Party-OLD, WHITE and SENILE.

Boy I guessed the GOPTP really has changed since the election. This is the new bipartisan look of the Republicans, working together to create more jobs (Oh yea, that's what they were supposed to do, but somewhere along the way their Alheimers started acting up again) and help rebuild our country, and this will certainly help their appeal to the Latinos, women, poor etc. that they suddenly discovered hate them. John McPain is still a sore loser from 2008 and a militarist at that. We needed a panel to investigate the lies about "Weapons of Mass Destruction" that Iraq didn't have and led us into a war that has claimed thousands of American lives not just the tragic 4 lives in Libya!

Huh? Inhofe is lying. There was no request made by the Ambassador for additional security. Inhofe is a wacked-out global warming conspiracy theorist. Not surprising that bitter Old Man McCain has someone like him supporting his latest rantings.

perhaps McCain should remember the debacle that was the intel on WMD's in Iraq...and why they covered that up and stood up for Condie Rice at that time..or Pat Tillmans death, which they reprehensibly then used as propaganda to further that illegal war! (McCain himself spoke at that funeral). yeah, take your proposal and shove it McCain..and you have now lost my vote for Senator in our great state!

McCain still has sour grapes for losing to Obama and has been on a witch hunt ever since. It seems there are a lot of people and politicians who really have no idea how terrorism works. No matter how many marines were at the embassy, it would never have stopped the terrorist attack. In fact we would have probably had more casualties. You forget that this terrorist attack was in another country and we can only have a certain amount of military personnel at embassies. Embassies always have a limited military present for protection because there is an agreement that the country the Embassies are in will be protect by that countries military and police. I know it was tragic what happened but those of you who are with hunting seem to forget that Bush ignored intelligence relating to 9/11 where over 4,000 were killed and those who are witch hunting didn't react in the same vigor as they are doing now. There seems to be an ongoing problem with our intelligence agencies by not sharing information so we need to zero in on these agencies and make sure they all work together to protect America and those Americans abroad. Also remember there will be Americans killed no matter how much security we have. Terrorism is a cancer, once you think you have got control of it then another pops up. We will never stop terrorism so long as we keep telling other countries how they should live. We keep saying we want government out of our lives but we support our government getting involved in other countries peoples lives.

Yesterday, while Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, the top-ranking Republican on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, was. . . .

HOLDING A HEARING ON BENGHAZI . . . "Her committee got a briefing from CIA, FBI and State Department officials Wednesday."

WHERE WAS Old Man McCain at that time? (who still is a sore loser from 2008)

Giving speeches to the press, along with his BFF, Liar Lindsey Graham, about why they hate Amb. Susan Rice, for either "lying or being incompetent" . . .

. . . for exactly the same "reasons" that would have disqualified Condi Rice for being Sec of State, using their own definition of "qualified to serve" - Condi Rice knowing lied about WMD, and went before dozens of TV cameras, to tell Americans we would have Mushroom Clouds if we didn't invade Iraq.

"The Intelligence and the Homeland Security Committees are already investigating.”

"Another Republican on the Intelligence Committee, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina said, "Listen, I think it's way too early to be calling for a special committee."

.

This isn't "good government in action" . . . this is overlap, and "your government wasting your money,"

. . . . and it is political and partisan.

.

If they gave McCain a committee all his own . . . would he even bother to attend?

.

I think we need an investigation of why McCain doesn't want the investigations already investigating to investigate.

.

FORWARD! :-)

McCain should just fade away. Why do people keep voting these old war-mongers back into office? After 3, or 4 terms, voters should show these people to the grazing fields.

Foreign Service Ambassadors very frequently put themselves in volatile situations, so why is it so much more important that he got killed and not as important as the thousands of murdered troops the Bush administration caused by illegally invading Iraq? In war, and war-like situations people die, why are some more important than others.

McCain's witch hunt is tantamount to calling for a Congressional panel every time a call in the field of battle is made with consequences we do not favor. Was there adequate defense of the Consulate? Obviously not. Decisions on military staffing are made a thousand times a day throughout the world... now McCain wants to second guess the CIA, the military, and this administration... a panel of Monday-morining-quarterbackers that will only drive us to excessive troop deployments everywhere "just in case".

Get off this. Go do something worthwhile, McCain.

There is so much weird stuff going on that I think a committee of this type is needed. It starts with what happened in Benghazi. Then, Petraeus, who repeated all that nonsense about a video, gets caught in some trouble. Then other people (another general and another woman) are discovered because of patraeus. There is a whole chain of people...and that is weird. Let's find out what is really going on.

Muslim Brotherhood won election in Egypt. No American lives were lost in Egypt.

I was not aware of any role they had in Libya. Militia groups operate in Libya, some with questionable connections, and many of these groups helped overthrow Khaddafi. There are reports that attack on Benghazi Consulate may have been triggered by protests against the film.

It is naive to think that terrorist groups might not want to be connected to Egyptian and other protests against the film. It is naive to think that a Libyan militia group could not possibly have been motivated by righteous anger over American film in launching this attack. Many different reasons for attack are possible. Hopefully, the investigation will reveal the attacker's motive.

You are so sure that the Benghazi attack was not about anger over film. How can you be so sure?

Here is the truth, the best I can figure out about Senator John McCain. He is a great man who loves his country. He is truly a brave war hero that all Americans should be proud of and we should also be proud of his service to the United States as a senator as I believe he has always served with honor in his heart.

But... I feel he is now too easily misled by people he trusts and is thrown out to the media to be a front man to their manipulative propaganda. I know many people with far right and far left ideals that will tell me the most obviously fabricated tales "that they just heard" to be true and really believe their source. It takes a lot of proof to undo what folk hold in their heart as a fact... especially if it makes sense in their hearts, so this seems to be a common ailment these days.

I believe John McCain is a good man that would not knowingly do wrong to this country but I believe he is trusting some pretty bad folks with some evil intentions. I hope he will find a new circle of confidants to associate with.

The Liberty was a mistake, there was a series of miscommunication, a slow release of orders, and failures in communication, these things happen in the fog of war. Israel stopped the attack as soon as they knew that the ship they thought was an Egyptian vessel was actually the Liberty which had not received the orders that had been given to pull back out of the "war zone". the Liberty was not sunk, Israel did formally apologise and paid reparations for the ship and to the families of the deceased.

No, man has tremendously contributed to global warming, and yes both sides of the aisle agreed on this until the koch brothers and others financed the suppression of the science. Some times the government will tell us the truth and sometimes they won't. I am not saying this is the case about the Liberty, but sometimes it is best to keep the truth secret for the overall good, although this is a very precarious and slippery slope. In time the truth should be revealed and often is by the media through the Freedom Of Information Act, even if the government sometimes has to be sued to release it.

Should we have been told about the Navajo code talkers in 1944?,

This is an excellent documentary on global warming, the tinfoil hat there would be that it ISN'T happening. Even McCain, Gingrich and Romney say it's real in this documentary. You can even seen Pelosi and Gingrich being nice to each other.

The only sour grapes I see is the the libs on this blog afraid that the truth will come out about their Empty Suit. There's a stench in this that just isn't going to go away like Fast and Furious did.....I don't think I want to trust my country or my life to an Empty Suit that appears to lie his way from issue to issue.....

The only questions that need to be answered is....Who presented and made the decision to push the video story in the first place and why was it still being the administration's stance more than a week later?

If he let 4 Americans die while in his service...just think what he would do to you and me if push came to shove....scary stuff.....Some guy back in 1939 lied to a lot of people too.....

When Republicans control the House and the President is a Democrat, instead of governing for the people, they search for something to use against the administration to gain political points. No matter how disconnected the subject is from running the country, they run with it for 2 years, until they are voted out.

Thanks for your link, antistupidity! It is a shame Our Nation does notwish to get in on the action to acknowledge this fuzzy feeling of bipartisan agreement in some sort of Kyoto sighning show of support, or extend it into legislation here. Good to see them shining us on.

I actually did use a biased source and am glad you checked up on it, which shows me you are also able to seek those not so biased sites, unless you consider the veterans which survived unbiased...

Now you can defend it all you want, and I can say it is just another example of war mongers propaganda being allowed to occur, if not directly ordered, as catalysts for further engagement to involve the US into deeper involvement in International Conflict.

I see it as sucking away the truth to keep the Big War Machine shiny. Just keep sweeping facts under the carpet unless it suites the cause to fan the flames of war against easy targets, never mind the body counts.

          Shaak...

You are so sure that the Benghazi attack was not about anger over film. How can you be so sure?

Yes pretty sure. The CIA admitted they knew Benghazi was a terrorist attack from the beginning. This Administration created a cover up to blame an American citizen in an attempt to insulate the President going into the election.

This administration did not provide adequate security for the Ambassador which assured his death along with the deaths of three other Americans in Libya. This Administration exacerbated the cover up by sending Susan Rice to the media to intentionally promote a lie. This President intentionally promoted a lie to American and the rest of the world. Not only did they promote a lie but they intentionally implicate a specific individual who was of no real consequence and certainally not responsible forin the terrorist attack on 9/11/2012.

For that alone Susan Rice should loose her current diplomatic status...she is a lier and our allies should not trust her. This adminsitration should not be trusted because they also perpetrated a lie that assumed that Americans, the general population of allied nations and the etire Muslim population were so stupid that they would believe anything Obama told them. The man that the Obama administration targeted should sue the United States, Obama , Rice and any other agency that created a condition that placed this mans life in jepordy and he should take those charges to the United Nations.

So how many other destructive events, that cost American lives, has the Obama Administration passed off as an accident when in truth those events were terrorist attacks?Obasma is a criminal and should stand for his crimes.

The request for extra security for personell in Bhengazi was granted twice in 2012. They were told not to ask a third time as they were drawing down in this area as other countries were because of the deterioratng situations that could bring an attack. They asked the third time anyway, and were denied. I do not blame them for asking. The point is this is what happened, there is no need for another committee to investigate.

The former security liason in the area Wood has stated that he does not think that even if the request were granted that it would have made a difference that night. Hindsight is 20/20. The committees goals should be to improve so they can avoid or stop a "next time". This should not be a witch hunt.

No more Mister nice guy. Democrats are really to go mano-o-mano with the Republican goons and lay down the smackdown on them over Benghazi.

Warning to all Benghazi CT nuts. You want a fight, lets fight, bring it.

Democrat to GOP in Benghazi Hearing ‘If you want to know who is responsible in this town, buy yourself a mirror!’

            By: Sarah JonesNovember 15th, 2012

Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) has apparently had enough of the Republican games.

A House Foreign Affairs hearing went wild today, with Republicans accusing Obama of being worse than Watergate over their thus far fictional Benghazi conspiracies. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) said the President had “lied”. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) joined Rohrabacher in accusing Obama of lying (still no proof or even a validreason for this accusation). Other Republicans spent their time orating instead of asking questions of the witness, suggesting that this is really more about manufacturing a narrative than getting to the truth.

And then Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) exploded:

Ackerman said, “The stench of hypocrisy that hangs over this city today emanates from this room. I’ve listened to my colleagues talk about the President of the United States and others in the administration using [the] terms ‘deliberate’, ‘lies’, ‘unmitigated gall’, ‘malfeasance,’ which is malicious and knowing evil-doing, ‘disgust’, ‘coverups’. If you want to know who is responsible in this town, buy yourself a mirror!”

He accused the Republicans of, according to NBC, having:

“the audacity to come here” when the administration requested, for worldwide security, “$440 million more than you guys wanted to provide. And the answer is that you damn didn’t provide it! You REDUCED what the administration asked for to protect these people. Ask not who the guilty party is, it’s you! It is us. It is this committee, and the things that we insist that we need have to cost money.”

He added, “Could you tell me which of my colleagues on this committee was as bodacious in their insistence that we provide more money for American security in the State Department budget. I would appreciate it.”

Ackerman then asked them to raise their hands and gave them a count of five to do so. None did.

So now we get to just one of the issues Republicans are trying to avoid by pointing the fingers first.

Dana Milbank reported on the Republicans cutting funding for embassy security in October:

House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012….Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.

Ryan, Issa and other House Republicans voted for an amendment in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Under Ryan’s budget, non-defense discretionary spending, which includes State Department funding, would be slashed nearly 20 percent in 2014, which would translate to more than $400 million in additional cuts to embassy security.

Republicans were also warned by their own side to stop playing games regarding funding Libya to little avail.

They were told that they were putting our security at risk, but the taste of socking it to Obama was too delicious. It turns out that while they were playing juvenile games of “gotcha”, lives were indeed on the line, just as Clinton and even right wing policy makers warned Republicans.

Now that the results of their obstruction are staring us all in the face, instead of owning up to it, they are screaming at the top of their lungs that it’s the other guy’s fault and he’s a liar. Usually, this method of distraction works well for Republicans, as the media follows their pointing fingers to a shiny ball and forgets to go look up just who denied that funding.

The bit about the other guy being a liar is meant to discredit anything the other side says before it can take root that yes, indeed, Republicans denied this funding just to say no to Obama.

This is the old Rove play book of accusing the other side of what you did in order to wear down the impact of the truth when it finally comes out. By that time, the public will be so weary of the screaming they will decide “both sides do it.”

You notice that Issa was one of the House Republicans who voted for an amendment to cut 1.2 billion from state operations going to diplomatic security in 2009, and yet he is leading the charge into “investigating” just who is responsible for the lack of security.

And because it should be repeated every single time a Republican brings this issue up, “Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.”

            Look in the mirror, Republicans.

The Obama administration requested $300 million in additional security funding for our embassies in preparation for the 9/11 anniversary. Congress holds the nation's pursestrings--and the House rejected the request, allowing not a dime more!

Why aren't we investigating those in Congress who denied additional aid to our embassies during a time of war?

The GOP has become craven, indeed.

I am sick and tired of OLD men, telling us that they have a better concept of what is going on ? AND they say they are going to reach across that GD aisle to make this country work together better? What a load of CRAP. John McCain, you are the person that selected Sarah Palin???Lest we forget, how did that work for ya? You were just looking for the female vote...nope you got an egomaniac, that was off the edge and was as dumb as a box of rocks and did not even know how to dress, still doesn't. Go home to the cabin in Sedona. Obama spanked you in 2008 and your party got spanked again...As we say in our home..."just let it go". Chill out.

Senator John McCain: "Rice is a great American success story. This is what America is all about."

Oh, wait, that quote is about former National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, in defense of her position of Secretary of State, not Susan Rice. About Condoleezza Rice, who presided over the attacks of September 11th, an infamous day which saw nearly 3,000 souls (American and foreign) perish due to a lapse in security. Due to a decision, a conscious decision, to not take a warning seriously. It wasn't about Susan Rice, who is our representative to the United Nations with no control over the national security apparatus, at a time when four Americans tragically died in a terrorist attack, about which the facts were understandably ambiguous for a few weeks.

My bad. I confused Condoleezza with Susan. I confused our National Security Advisor with our representative to the United Nations. I confused 3,000 dead with 4. It's inexcusable.

I wonder what McCain (and Graham's) excuse is. Do they even try for one? Or is their ridiculousness likewise inexcusable?

McCain and Graham supported Condoleezza Rice despite knowing she lied about Iraq.

Graham's justification for supporting one Rice but not the other: the United States wasn't the only country that thought Iraq had WMDs.

McCain talks about personal responsibility. This from the same man who once jokingly sang about bombing Iran and chose Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008.

Actually, McCain lost to Bush in the primary - in a nasty last-minute smear - before he lost to Obama. Then he played good soldier with what almost had to be a promise to support him in the future. He should have gotten it in writing or maybe he assumed too much. By the time he ran against Obama he was in the throes of "they owe me." He might have won on a foreign policy election but oops, Bush tax cuts pushed a mortgage crisis over the edge and McCain looked like his piggy bank was robbed when it was suddenly "the economy, stupid."

Mitt Romney took that thought and ran on it but as the economy began to rise he looked like a dolt in foreign policy. Sheesh, these Republicans can't get a break. The must be scratching their heads over why it's now so wrong to insult women and minorities.

It's tough to become irrelevant. But the antidote is not to make a lot of loud stupid noise; better to lead with thoughtful and intelligent discourse and aim for Republican elder statesman. That position is wide open and so far no takers.

He is everything I don't want representing me and I shudder to think what would have happened if he won the prior election. It would have snowed for a year from the nuclear fallout from the wars he would have started. It's time to STOP fighting for your own agenda and do what is best for ALL Americans.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, IXLR8. I used to be a proud Republican, but once they started blaming the left for being "dangerous", yet they expect to enforce their religious and moral beliefs on all American citizens, I became disenchanted with the entire platform. In addition, charging head first into a war with Iraq, while neglecting domestic problems finally did it for me.

Now, their platform continues to grow more extreme and nuttier by the minute, while they try and become witch hunters on issues that are extremely minor compared to events that happened while Republicans were in power is beyond ridiculous. From their hypocrisy, lies and outright blind hatred for our President, I realized I'm anything but a Republican. And, it's not just the hispanics and blacks they alienate as I'm as white as a snowy field in Vermont.

So long Republican party. I can't say the last few years have been a pleasure being associated with you.

I guess I will jump on this bandwagon, I actually was prepared to vote for him in 2008, until he picked Palin as his running mate and started pandering to the right wing crazies abondoning all of his principles. Unfortunately, he seems to be getting worse and worse, I honr his service to our country, but I do believe some type od PTSD is manifesting itself.

This country is ripe for a strong Independent party that will govern based on those with common sense in the middle that want social programs that help those in need that are not abused and truly wants limited government, which means staying out of womans rights. The republican party should be called the hypochrissy party these days.

I do believe all candidates for federal office INCLUDING members of Congress and SCOTUS should be required to have a full mental and physical evaluation at least each time before they are sworn in to office, preferably annually. I would not object to using my tax dollars if a non-partisan physician had to certify as to each member's fitness for duty.

Why wasnt John McCain screaming like this when funding that would have improved security for our people in Libya was shot down by the Repubs? John is flipping out over Ambassador Rice not being qualified, not understanding things; but he still stands by his choice of Palin for running-mate. Bye-Bye McCain. He is seemingly going downhill and gathering speed.

I heard this news just today and could not believe it when, after refusing to increase funding for embassy security, the GOP has the audacity to scream; "where was the security?" "How could this happen?" Yet another reason to simple look at the republican party with utter and complete disgust.

Guess they just don't like America. Hey Johnny boy, how about you and lyin' Lindsey just leave? No one wants you around anymore. Losers.

McCain's idea is a joke, much like the Republican party. We are facing a fiscal crisis brought about by 20 years of government ignorance, greed, and advancement of their egos, but all they can talk about is 'getting Democrats'.

The State Department has the sole responsibility for the attacks in Benghazi. They should have protected their employees and should have had a fast-reaction team stationed in Turkey.

Thats the question you should be asking. If not, then get your sorry ass to work.

McCain and Graham are correct. Obama continues the spin. Why was Susan Rice sent out to lie about what happened? We are not all fooled...obviously, many people are or don't care about these 4 men who were tortured (sexually), dragged in the street and murdered. Someone is derelict in their duty and Obama's "outrage" is just more of the propaganda that comes out of this White House. They are using the old communist techniques. The Ambassador and his men should have been pulled out along with the 30 security people who were pulled in August. The entire episode is failure on many aspects. I guess some people don't care how this country is run. One day you will care and it will be too late.

Jennifer, I am happy to read that you are concerned about this matter, but I must ask if you had even given any thought about such an issue during our bogus war of profit in Iraq during W's terms? There were twelve terrorist attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities abroad during George W. Bush’s tenure — the most of any president in history — and eight of those occurred while Donald Rumsfeld was in office. Odd that no issues about such attacks had worried McInsane and his lil buddy Lindsay back then. This is BS politics at its best with a spin so that McInsane could be in the news.

First of all, Rice wasn't "sent out to lie". She was sent out as the spokesperson to give America the information that was availlable at the time. As for "4 men being tortured (sexually), dragged in the streets..." ,you seem to have more specific information than most people. Care to share your sources? Rush Limbaugh is the only one I know of who suggested anything sexual occured and he made mention of the ambassador's body being dragged through the streets. It turned out that picture was of Libyan civilians bringing the ambassador out of the building and to a hospital where he died.

Seems to me, last I heard. "sex" as you are discussing it, was male on male? Really, now it seems to me everyone, or 98% of the population there is Muslim. As we know it, that male on male sex would send none of these guys to Allah, where they would get 21 vestal virgins for their sacrifice. Gees, I may be wrong, but doesn't the Muslim religion consider homosexual acts a reason to kill someone practicing that culture? Or, at least give them a good stoning? Or cut off body parts? They are such strong believers, I don't think you could find a male in that region to do such a heinous thing. Go back to school!

                  The Immoral Minority

Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Are Right Wing trolls paid to sabotage on-line conversations and defend certain causes and political figures? You betcha!

Not an accusation, but a suggestion, Jen. Ad Hoc Logic does not form a good foundation as the basis of a defensible position.

And it does not mean that some spin is not always happening from BOTH Parties. However wrong, it is never given much attention unless it supports your disliked individual and makes for an event du joir which is suddenly an important issue though that side/group/cause/vendetta are quite diluted in importance since it only shows up in the 'minority report.'

And notice that these are usually deemed as must investigate occurances to substansiate all of those other false claims debunkded reatedly and fully, yet keep getting updated by more and more out of touch and false claims that get debunked yet again, yet not a peep over the much more massive infractions by those of your own devoteeism.

On the subject of Iraq, I hold BOTH sides accountable, as after no proof of the WMDs, Congress continued to bankroll the folly.

Please offer your view of the last five US Invasions and their spin factor.

4 americans were killed. Two of them were CIA/Navy Seals and were killed 7 hours after the attack begun. They didn't receive any reinforcements from nearby base, only 1-hour away by aircraft.

One of them has a wife and 3-month old baby at home. Shouldn't we know the truth on this? I know you guys posting here beleive everything Obama is saying. But doesn't this sound unreasonable, we couldn't get any marines or special forces there within 7 hours of an attack?

Again, we have a base that is 1-hour away by aircraft. This man's son will grow-up without a father.

Again, we have a base that is 1-hour away by aircraft.

I'm assuming you've played too much Call of Duty or something.

You don't press a button and then aircraft and soldiers teleport out of the air after a certain period of time.

First they'd have to get the intel and figure out what was going on in Benghazi. Then they'd have to decide what kind of response needed to happen, then they'd have to make sure those aircraft were fueled and armed. If they're sending in ground troops, they have to get everyone together, get everyone armed and briefed, and come up with a plan so that they're not just sending in a support team to run around randomly with no idea what's going. Then they'd have to get those troops to the area, make sure they land safely.

And EVEN if that happened, what would you propose they do? Just carpet bomb the entire city when our ambassador and other Americans were in the middle of a smoky chaotic mess?

What do we tell the troops going in? Just kill everyone that looks non-American?

If you send in troops haphazardly with no escape route you get another Blackhawk Down scenario.

And btw, the final 2 Americans were apparently killed by mortar fire after the initial attack was over.

But none of that matters to you Republicans. Apparently the troops and our personnel overseas are expendable. Whatever you need to do to score political points. You didn't see Democrats doing this after 9/11.

Oh, and because I assume you guys get all of your info from Fox News, I can let you in on another nugget you might not have heard:

They did send in an American relief force. A pro-US Libyan militia also tried to rush to the scene and help defend the Americans. It took a while to figure out what was going on, get armed and get to the scene.

Yeah, it is the economy stupid, and we're already starting to see the results of re-electing Obama, and having his healthcare laws go into effect. The plant closures, and layoffs, have started to begin in earnest....40,000+ and counting as of yesterday morning. Papa Johns/Applebees/Caterpillar/Dennys...just a few of the corporations who are going to be ELIMINATING full time positions starting now....perhaps, when you start hearing the phrase, lightly at first, then getting louder....Who is John Galt? ...you'll wonder where it came from, and what it all means...bad things are coming down the pike... A successful democracy requires an informed, and moral, electorate....to paraphrase John Adams...and sadly, we have moved beyond that point. Just read all the oafish comments on this forum insisting....in-bleeping-sisting...that the President lying to the American public on national television for weeks after this attack isn't newsworthy..(and some of you reading this will deny this basic, and easily provable point...3 clicks, and you can watch Obama lie on multiple television programs...remember, they knew it was a terrorist attack DURING the attack...they watched live via a overhead drones cameras...so anything he said implying ANYTHING else, is by definition, a lie.) So now we get to see what it's like having the costs of everything go up...and the demand for new workers will go down....and it all could've been avoided with an informed electorate...

With burning planes on deck it was the Navy’s worst disaster since World War II claiming the lives of those 134 sailors.

“The damage to the USS Forrestal was far more grievous: The explosion set off a chain reaction of bombs, creating a devastating inferno that would kill 134 of the carrier’s 5,000-man crew, injure 161 and threaten to sink the ship”

Because McCain’s dad was the Admiral in charge of Vietnam war operation the brass attempted to blame the fire on the dead Phantom pilot, but with so many of the USS Forrestal’s crew as direct witnesses, available to the investigation. . . the investigation was left bureaucratically “inconclusive.”

This “FIRE” should have ended John McCain’s Navy career. His incompetence as a flier lead instead to him being captured by the North Vietnamese. He should never have surrendered, or made those statement against his country. His excuse is, as he said in the first “debate’ with Obama, is “I broke down.” A lame excuse. Being a prisoner of war does not automatically translate into being a “Hero”—or in the case of John McCain a self-proclaimed hero.

Let's get a reporter to ask that..maybe Chris Matthews or Greg Jennings. now that would be something!

One other thing. If repubs ride this thru the next election, defeat will be far worse than what just happened.

Enough people can see through the BS and won't be convinced otherwise no matter how "stupid" they are.

Again why didn't McCain call for a special commision on the Bush administration who brought the US into the Iraq war because they had proof of weapons of mass destruction? Bush should have been impeached over that mess as well over 3000 of service men and women died.

So let me get this straight. McCain is questioning the intelligence of Susan Rice and HE chose Sarah Palin as his running mate?

salsaforever - Well said. By putting someone totally unqualified, unprepared and uninformed a weak old heartbeat away from the presidency in a misguided attempt to win at any cost, McCain forfeited his authority to question the judgement of anyone else forever. He placed the country in jeopardy with his selfish choice of a running mate and can no longer be considered a patriot.

How much longer will we be subjected to the sniveling and whining of McCain and Romney over losing to Obama?

John McCain is a joke. He claims to be some kind of patriot, but all he cares about is partisan politics. He claims to be such a military expert, but he has no clue at all. He has lived off of the federal government his entire life. This guy is nothing more than your typical white haired, white, antagonistic, bitter old Republican, who tries to stir the pot, versus try to help this country in a time when we all need to come together. He needs to concentrate on resolving our fiscal cliff and getting people back to work, versus trying to start another investigation. He is just a grumpy old prick.

There are alot of good comments in this section, but this one is good. and Scott 518025 very well said, I never thought until you stated, he has lived off the federal government his entire life, so true, now does that put him in the 47% his buddy Mitt was talking about?

And if that wasn't dumb enough, the Repubs made Romney their front man. Go, figure!

Exactly. Palin, plus speaking out for that other Rice to be Sec of State after her disaster at being National Security Advisor.
