Updated 10:14 am ET Anyone thinking senators would return from last week’s elections inspired by voters’ desire for problem solving and cooperation has gotten a strong dose of reality in the first two days since the Senate came back into session this week.

Despite the talk of the need for bipartisan solutions, inflammatory issues were already dividing senators, chief among them the pending tax increase set to occur at year end and the investigation of the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Voters dislike the impasses and the bitterness, most senators agree. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., who won a second term last Tuesday, said, “The main message I heard throughout the state ... is they expect folks to go back to Washington and work together – I heard that over and over again.”
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., joins Morning Joe to discuss if he believes Senate and House Republicans will be more willing to negotiate a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff than they were in 2011.
And to be sure, there are some signs of bipartisan courtesy and warmth: Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin paid tribute on the Senate floor Wednesday to his Iowa Republican colleague Sen. Charles Grassley, who had just cast his 11,000th vote as a senator.
And Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., was seen in a brotherly bipartisan shoulder embrace with Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., as they walked down a hallway Tuesday in the Capitol.
“I’m still very hopeful” that Congress can agree before Dec. 31 to a bill to reduce spending and raise tax revenue, Corker said Wednesday.
Corker said a bill to impose a $50,000 cap on itemized tax deductions can be short and simple. “It’s a paragraph – what’s so hard about that?” he asked.
But even if Corker’s optimistic forecast on a fiscal accord is right, plenty of fuel remains for partisan firestorms.
Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., Lindsey Graham, R-SC, and Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, hold a news conference to discuss the Sept. 11th, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
On Wednesday, a trio of GOP senators, led by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., renewed its call for a special Senate select committee to investigate the Benghazi attack, which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called “a national security debacle long in the making.”
(McCain's proposal was rebuffed Wednesday by several senators, especially some Republicans who serve on the Senate Intelligence Committee such as Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina who said, "Listen, I think it's way too early to be calling for a special committee.")
McCain, Graham and Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., also said they would oppose President Barack Obama if he nominates U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to replace Clinton as secretary of state.
They believe Rice should not have claimed on NBC’s "Meet the Press" that the Benghazi attack was a reaction to an inflammatory anti-Islamic video and that she should have known it was a terrorist attack.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice recaps the causes and effects of recent violence against Americans in the Middle East.
Even as he was firing a shot across Obama’s bow on a potential Rice nomination, Graham used some bipartisan rhetoric on the Benghazi investigation: “I am urging Democrats and Republicans to put aside any partisanship we may have in this new Congress on Benghazi and find a way forward.”
He also praised Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., even though he contended that no one committee could have the comprehensive view of the events needed to get to the truth. “Dianne Feinstein has been terrific. It’s not that I don’t trust Dianne; she’s doing a great job. But she cannot know what the Armed Services Committee may find out.”
But Graham also sounded combative in challenging Rice and Obama: “Somebody has got to start paying a price” for what occurred in Benghazi and in the administration’s explanation that followed it.

Republican Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte hold a press November 14 regarding the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012.
“I don’t trust her,” Graham said of Rice, calling her “more a political operative than she is anything else when it comes to Benghazi.”
The South Carolina Republican may have waved a red flag at Democrats when he compared the special committee he and his GOP colleagues are proposing for Benghazi to the ones created in 1974 to probe the Watergate break-in and in 1986 to examine the Iran-Contra arms-for-hostages scandal.
“The Watergate investigation benefited from a joint select committee; Iran-Contra benefited from a select committee,” Graham said.
He added later: “Don’t call it Watergate if that makes you mad, makes you upset. Call it the 9/11 commission; call it the Iraq Study Group” — previous cases in which bipartisan blue-ribbon investigations were conducted.
Obama came to Rice’s defense in his Wednesday afternoon press conference about two hours after McCain, Graham and Ayotte spoke. “To besmirch her reputation is outrageous,” he said.

Not letting Obama have the last word, McCain was on the Senate floor a few hours later, renewing his call for the special committee and disputing Obama’s contention that he and his allies were picking on Rice.
Meanwhile, legislation on the tax increase and other matters await action.
And the Senate centrists who make compromises possible are vanishing, lamented Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., Tuesday in the wake of his defeat last week by Democrat Elizabeth Warren.
Brown cited Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, Sen. Joe Lieberman, I–Conn, Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and himself.
Snowe, Conrad, and Lieberman are retiring at year's end, and both Brown and Lugar were defeated this year, with GOP primary voters booting Lugar out last May.
"That group in the middle — it's vanishing,” Brown said sadly. “And on both sides there are extremes kind of pushing back against the middle, but I’ve always felt that that group in the middle is quite frankly the most powerful group because they have the ability to get to that 60-vote threshold and actually get things done,” Brown told reporters.
He added that in his final weeks in the Senate, “I’m hopeful that, being that bipartisan guy, that I can continue to bring people together and look at ways to solve our country’s problems.”
But if voters really want centrists, pragmatists and lawmakers willing to compromise, as Brown and Casey both say they do, then why did Massachusetts voters dump Brown in favor of Warren, a markedly more left-leaning replacement?
Is it that voters don’t really want centrists or did Brown simply not persuade them that he is one?
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reacted disdainfully on Wednesday to Brown’s comments, contending that the Massachusetts Republican was neither a genuine centrist nor a bridge builder between the parties.
“I saw during the campaign his plea for bipartisanship,” Reid scoffed. “That is a big joke. It’s a travesty. He was one of the most partisan people that’s ever served here.”
Reid said Brown “could have saved” a Democratic bill to limit the effect of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which allows greater corporate and labor union money in running campaign ads.
“He could’ve been the sixtieth vote on that and many other things, so I don’t need a lecture from him on bipartisanship,” said Reid. “He should go look in a mirror.”
The winner of a stunning 2010 special election and the first Republican elected to the Senate from Massachusetts since 1972, Brown ranks almost in the middle in the National Journal’s annual ideological ranking of all senators. He is ranked 45th most conservative, close to Snowe, Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., who is also retiring at the end of this year.
But Brown sided with his party on high-profile votes such as opposing the effort to undo the Citizens United ruling and voting against confirmation of Obama’s nomination of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. He cited Kagan’s lack of judicial or courtroom experience.
And on tax increases, Brown Tuesday sounded like a staunch Republican: “All I know is that wherever I went (during his re-election campaign) people were tired of giving more of their hard earned money to the federal government – knowing they waste a lot of it.”

The GOP is destroying its own brand..and its own future..the elephant will soon find itself onto the endangered species list.
.
The real smart move is to work with the president and claim credit if things go right.
.
Look at Dwight Eisenhower...after 20 years of DEM in control of the White House (1933-53), Eisenhower moved left, accepting legitimacy of the New Deal..paving the way for GOP control later in Nixon all the way to Bush sr., with only 4 years of brief Carter Presidency.
.
Look at Clinton, after years of GOP control of the White House, Clinton moved right, stealing GOP programs (triangularation) - 'end welfare as we know it'...paving the way for more Dem control under Obama (8 years now secured)....
.
for Republicans today, the smart move is to work with the Democrats who secured the White House for 4 more years and increased members in both Houses of Congress.
.
But it takes brain and courage to do it.
the Party of NO! shows its true colors once again. They wasted 4 years trying to make Obama a 'one term president' as they stated many times and now will waste 4 more years blocking every good thing that comes up for vote. I hope the people clean house on those self centered fools in 2 years!
After years of obstructionism, it's apparent they don't know any different. The GOP needs some kind of "gate" to have the nation turn away from the fact that they just finished running one of the most disgusting elections on record for their party. Keep drawing attention to the fact that none of you care about this country and only care about your failure of a party.
The rest of us already know that and are moving FORWARD!
Actually the 'party of no' makes sense. As a minority party they can only slow the Dem agenda. Their own agenda will not advance - they realize and accept this. This explains why they have hunkered down defensively using the House to stymie the Dems' agenda while conceding the Senate and the White House. They simply lack the resources to compete with the expanding base of the Democratic party.
sadly america needs both parties. i don't think even dems want single party rule. but the gop went way to far in blocking everything. a minority party has the role of influencing bills but the gop did'nt want to do that. they just wanted to block everything and thats along with their attacks on women, minorities, and holding up the middle class tax cut so it had to be paid for while not ever wanting the bush tax cuts for millionares to be paid for is all a part of why they lost
Maybe they can start to pull together once this secession issue is finally settled. LOL/SIGH At least they all agreed to go back to work, sorta.
I REALLY like the 50,000 cap on itemized deductions.
The Republican obstructionists are trying to nullify the will of the majority of the American people.
It is time for a march on Washington against the likes of McCain and Graham!!!
John McCain - just a trouble maker who wastes millions to justify his failed Presidential run. He will do anything, twist everything, just so he can be that little kid that resorts to "I told you so"...grow up loser.
I made it through half the article - I think that is a record for me in the last year...reading the same old @!$%# about both of these parties isn't worth my time...every second they play these games - the USA becomes lesser of a Nation.
(1) John McCain is an angry old white guy - he should retire . . . ditto Lindsey Graham.
(2) anyone who tries to make Benghazi into a conspiracy should be asked, "where are the WMD?" Bush lied - 1000's (not just 4) died.
(3) Brown lost . . . voters (60%) said, "increase taxes"
(4) the "fiscal cliff" is a myth, created by ReThugLicans to scare people - this is a good read:
"The "Fiscal Cliff" Is a Hoax ... and a Mel Brooks Routine"

FORWARD! :-)
Once again the republican Party Of No is rearing its ugly head. It needs to be cut off!
Obama and the Democrats started this huge partisan divide when they kicked the Republicans out of the room, went behind closed doors, and wrote that Obamanation of a health care bill. They set the stage that they neither wanted nor needed to work with the Republicans. This was the drill for the first two years of Obama's administration. Then the people spoke and handed control of the Congress to the Republicans. They were saying that they did not like where this one sided, single party control was taking the country. When in 2010 Obama and the Democrats lost that total control they shifted gears and started calling the Republicans obstructionists and saying that the Republicans refused to work with them. What a crock. This division was started by the Democrats and now they are stuck living with the monster they themselves created. Obama trying to claim some kind of mandate because he won the election is a joke. One look at the overall popular vote and you can clearly see that the nation is pretty evenly divided. Only a couple of percentage points separated the two candidates. This was no landslide win for Obama and certainly was nothing even close to what could be called a mandate. If Obama had received something closer to 60% of the popular vote then maybe he could claim a mandate, but the actual election results are far from that. Obama won more because Romney was not seen as a great alternative and on top of that many people did not like his choice of running mate. There was no massive turnout and no overwhelming support for Obama, so for him to try and claim a mandate only shows how full of himself he really is. Unless Obama and the Democrats wake up, start realizing that they will never get their extreme agenda through, and begin to compromise we will be stuck with four more years of complete gridlock in Washington.
John McLame..............useless bolt in the toolbox, nutjob who never suggested investigating the lack of "weapons of mass destruction in Iraq"...................warmonger who sat out the war as a prisoner..............now we should all feel sorry for this guy who has no original ideas.............except to agree to having Sarah Palin as a running mate.....................what a case you are John!
How is nominating Rice as Secretary of State an "extreme agenda"?
Republicans are firm believers in free enterprise. How can they comporomise with a socialist?
Who's up for a Hawaiian Christmas vacation, tax payer funded of course??? Put it on the AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD.
INEPTOCRASY: (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy)
A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
If Republicans don't start acting in the best interest of the country it's safe to say that in 2014 the American people will be kick them out of Washington for good. After that the Republican Party will whither and die and will be replaced by a politcal Party that actually works for the people that elect them.
Republicans have been working exclusively for banks, corporations and insurance companies for so long that they have lost site of the fact that their suppose to be working for the American people. Everytime they place politics ahead of the welfare of the nation they pound another nail into their own coffin.
Hey NC... You can disagree with Sen. McCain all you like, but to belittle his military service and belittling his time as a POW is disgraceful. Pretty disgusting.
McCain, Graham, Ayotte are Poopy Heads!
This whole Benghazi thing is a ruse. The repubs see this as a way to de-legitimize Obama’s second term. They start right out of the gate with this crap. Meaning they didn’t learn a thing from the election. Benghazi didn’t mean a hill of beans to the electorate, and it still doesn’t. And it never will.
The people will see this as just another attempt to sabotage this presidency, and deflect the American people from the fact that the repubs lost big on Election Day simply because their ideas suck.
The repubs were shocked that their attempts to buy and steal the election failed. They were bloated with their own over-confidence. No amount of re-branding, re- messaging, or trotting out their token mouthpieces will help them ever again. The American people are done with the republican dog and pony show. Their motives are transparent to everyone (except the fox news dimwits).
If they aren’t willing to do the heavy bipartisan lifting that will actually get results that benefit the country, then they will deservedly earn the scorn of the electorate, and be relegated to the political scrap-heap of history. Good riddance.
Paint it how you want, but this is the same old partisan garbage.
If you disagree with me you are being partisan, but if you agree with me then we are working together.
Let me get this straight: Republicans want to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to investigate why 4 of our American Diplomats who were stationed in a war zone will killed, and why that a terrorist attack was our first guess that's what happened.
If we're still investigating and haven't actually made a determination of what the "facts" will turn out to be, how do Republicans "know" that the investigation will conclude?
It sounds to me like Republicans wanted "facts" before actual facts were known, or else they wanted to guaranty our Diplomats were "safe" in the middle of a war zone.
Basically I think Republicans are just pissed because they lost the election, and Mitt "Bozo the Clown" Romney jumped the gun in his criticism, and Republicans want someone (another American) to suffer because the 4 that were killed wasn't enough tragedy for Republicans. Republicans want another "victim".
Did the Republicans posture and cackle like this on the Original 9/11 attacks? I don't think so, they were to busy handing out dis-information than the truth. Where was your bitching about that "Terrorist Attack"? Because we knew what happened, just not the WHO. It takes time to gather info, it isn't a friggin google search to find the answers. Sort of like when we invaded Iraq and found out the lie of WMD.
Big Trouble
If that makes sense then we are doomed for a stagnant forever. Tell us... so why is it so smart now and never before? There was some record setting blocking that, it turns out, did no good for neither the Republican Party nor this nation.
What an amazing pile of revisionist crap! The Republicans were invited to the party...they refused the invitation. Fourteen of them met to discuss how to destroy President Obama's presidency the day he was elected...and you claim Obama didn't cooperate? When the knock on the door comes...and you slam it shut...don't cry that you weren't invited! History will have it's way with you!
Yes but that only cost over 4,000 American Service Member's lives. A small price to pay for political capital. It's clear that this is bogus political Kabuki theater. Come on Republicans...show me your clown nose!

Oh I remember the days leading up to that day well. So you don't remember the bipartisan work done on health care that turned ugly when the people that even helped with the legislation all broke for Republican obstructionism? Selective memory? I was thrilled to death when the Dems got the brass to tell the Republicans to stick it. The Republicans were acting like asses and had vowed to obstruct... so the Dems finished the job of creating the bill and got it passed.
The Republicans have played a false victim ever since... poor souls... they been wronged!
Forward libs you got what you wanted.
The danger
to America is not Barack
Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the
Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama
presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a
depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem
is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of
what ails America .
Blaming the
prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools
that made him their prince.
The
Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool.
It is less
likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their
president."
Enjoy your fiscal cliff libbies, just one more thing you will blame on some one else.
You are wrong JS. This is not what happened at all. Go back and read the facts.
Democrats tried to get bi-partisan cooperation. Republicans refused.
While you're at it, look up the definition of mandate as well.
We are borrowing almost 40 cents of every federal $ spent. Feeding the pig will not help. Cut superfluous spending. Attack duplicate fed programs, mismanagement, and fraud first and then the President will have a stronger position to raise revenue on the so-called rich. Raising revenue first only works as a prelude to cutting benefits to seniors and medicare -- like means testing benefits. This is now an alternate universe where truth is false, saving is bad, success is evil, and taking from the federal government is good. So-called Rising Above means Republicans should cave?! How long can any of us survive by borrowing 40% more than we spend?
Gee, where have we heard THIS before? The GOP is stalling, doing it's best to prevent any bills from getting passed. How many millions of tax payer dollars were blown by the republicans in congress, the entire 8 years Clinton was in office? They kept conjuring one "***gate" after another, and at the end of it - all Ken Starr got was a pizza party and some blowjobs. These people are disgusting.
I honestly don't believe you will see one ounce of co-operation from the GOP. Why? Because the american people are finally seeing the republican party for what they REALLY are, what they've ALWAYS been. This is the republican party with all of the pretty masks stripped away, boiled down to its ugliest, sickening essence. Who still supports the GOP? The filthy rich 1%, white males (particularly older ones) and religious nuts.
What do these three groups have in common? They all serve the same purpose. Throughout history, the filthy rich, males in general, and the bible bashers (most organized religions) have worked together to uphold the status quo and preserve patriarchy - to make sure that they always come out on top, and remain in control - while keeping women and any minorities under their heel where they think we belong. (And no, I'm not saying ALL men think like this. I know there are a lot of enlightened men out there, but there are still far too many who DO think like this.)
But the tide has turned - women, african americans, hispanics, asians, the GLBT community - during the 60s and 70s we said screw it, we aren't putting up with this anymore. Women said "we're tired of the sexual harassment and not receiving equal pay for equal work". The african americans said, "Hell no. We aren't going to sit at the back of the bus anymore. The constitution stated all men are created equal, so we should be treated as equals and have equal rights." Ditto the hispanics and asians. The GLBT community also said, "Screw this. We should be able to enjoy a life and have a family just like everybody else. Why should we have to stay shut up in this closet, living a lie, and being miserable our entire lives. We want the freedom to simply be ourselves - the exact same freedom every other citizen of this country has."
And there was a backlash. It happened quickly. The republican party made the mistake of embracing the filthy rich sons and grandsons of families like the Bushes, who had supported the Nazis rise to power, and they also made the mistake of getting into bed with the christian right. They did it because they wanted absolute power, and for awhile it looked like they were going to have it.
But now they're paying the price. The inmates are running the asylum. You see more and more of these scumbags making comments about "legitimate rape", prohibiting abortion even in cases of rape or incest. You see them trying to pass these voting laws in different states, ostensibly to prevent "voter fraud", but in reality to make it more difficult for minorities who primarily vote for the democrats, to exercise that right. You hear them talk about wanting to do away with that Civil Rights / Voting Rights act that was signed in '64, claiming we don't need it anymore.
The Status Quo Party see their ranks, and their power diminishing. For a group who are used to having everything go their way - this is how they're going to act - digging their heels in, refusing to negotiate, and scheming like they did, trying to get all these voter ID laws passed before this election. They really do want to drag this country back to the 30s or 50s. Some people might think the repubicans will pull their heads out of their butts and start co-operating with the democrats, but I can't see it happening. I can see it getting even nastier because they feel threatened, they believe the democratic party and their supporters are trying to take away their power, their freedom and their rights.
We aren't trying to take away anybody's freedom or rights. We just want a level playing field, everybody being treated as equals. But when you belong to a political party, or vote for a political party - where the mentality and the laws always ensured that the field was stacked in your favor; if you're used to getting your way 80% of the time, then of course, you're going to start feeling persecuted, that your power is being taken away, if you're expected to co-operate, compromise, show respect for everybody else, and only get your way 50% of the time.
An old friend told me something many years ago when Bill Clinton got reelected for his second term as president. He said, "The bad news is that Clinton got reelected. The good news is that he's only got eight years to screw things up!" Just as true today with Obama and his minions.
Bipartisianship is great and all, but the wealthy elite are paying the Republicans a lot of money to keep their taxes low and make the poor and middle class pay.
Apparently, the pubes have not learned their lesson yet. So I suppose they will need to recognize who drives the bus now. We can keep them out of any effective power for as long as we want or need to! Why they do not realize this is a testament to their astonishingly inept comprehension skill set. Just look at that photo of McCain, Graham and Ayotte. They all look like they are sick.....and they are!In many ways. McCain has taken to blowing in the wind like a dried up leaf. He is increasingly flip-flopping on the things he says. Graham is just an out and out racist. His words and deeds confirm that. I keep hoping South Carolinians will finally kick him tothe curb. Also, the loser Robme has been telling his loser supporters that the reason he lost was due to the president giving gifts to the 47 percenters. Robme has turned out to be the biggest loser ever! He said that blacks voted for Obama because Obama is black (actually Robme the president is multi-cultural), Robme then said Lationos voted for Obama because of the Dream Act (I guess Robme is not aware that many left leaning liberals such as myself are actually against a path to citizenship for those who "jumped the line"). Robe said that it was too hard to beat someone who was fostering the "entitlement mentality". What an insufferable ass! Actually Robme, that is the reason you and the rest of the pubes lost this year, and will continue to lose going forward. You are unthinking, uncaring, racist, insufferable a$$ clowns! You will now get to sit on the sidelines for many years to come while the dems, independents and progressives move forward without the hindrance of people who live in the 19th century. Pubes SUCK! Your party is DYING (thank goodness) and you are scared! Again......GOOD! You pubes have wrecked this country and the rest of us are DONE with that crap! WEhave the numbers and you do not. Have you ever wondered why? Why your party is now condemned to die out like the fossil it is. Think about it, I'm sure it will occur to you after about 50 years of being out of any effective power in this country. Couldn't happen to a better group of reich wing nut job racists. Now go and turn your flag upside down. Or secede!

GOP hates the disabled
GOP hates scientists
GOP hates the middle class
GOP hates fact checkers

For the sake of all that is reasonable progressives! Let the mouths of the foolish republicans roar on! The general populace of this country are becoming quite sick of these fools. They must be relegated to their proper areas of representation. Republicans fit only the extremes of the old confederacy and certain western states. The louder they scream, the more they proffer their extreme stupidity, and the more they obstruct the well being of those who cling to hopes of a better day, the surer their ugly demise befitting that representation. Many are learning the power of an illusion cannot change the direction of the wind; alas!, only the smell.
Looks like two more years of obstruction and then we get to show the GOP the door. (Out of power entirely.)
A reminder, the election is over. Republican voters need to toughen up, accept the results, and make an attempt to choose leaders that people in the middle will vote for.
To the matter of McCain, this is a legitimate grievance. The government narrative regarding Benghazi is full of holes and apologies are in order for the administration's malpractice in this affair. The Senate has every right to ensure full accountability and Senator McCain's questions are all legitimate. But the tone of this hearing was a bit alarming. My concern is that this could become President Obama's Watergate/Contragate/Lewinsky affair if he doesn't own up, respond to these issues raised by the Senate, mend this fence, and present a coherent policy regarding Libya.
It didn't take the republican scum long to show they haven't changed a bit and are still scum!
As a people, we are disgusting. After all the talk of "throw all the bums out", the same bums are in control of a US House, and US Senate, with all Senators but one being re-elected. How can we expect things to change when we continue to vote for Status-Quo ?
Having said that, however, I am happy Obama was re-elected over the corporate puppet who said, "to hell with 47% of Americans........at least there is hope for the middle class and poor.
Susan Rice is just fine. Don't kill the messenger. The GOP didn't beat the hell out of Collin Powell.
JUST LIKE A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT TO TAKE THINGS OUT OF PERSPECTIVE . . . THE FACTS ARE "Rice should not have claimed on NBC’s "Meet the Press" that the Benghazi attack was a reaction to an inflammatory anti-Islamic video and that she should have known it was a terrorist attack."
I FOR ONE DO NOT WANT THIS IDIOT TO BE in any OFFICIAL OFFICE !!!
GOOD JOB REBULICANS BLOCK HER LAME ASS BEFORE SHE DOES MORE DAMAGE!
Good luck with this economy . . . I see more and more jobs being lost because of this idiot some of you call the president. I only hope that your job is next !!
You can bet your boots, I won't hire anyone for the next 4 years !! And come hell or highwater that is the way it is going to be!
It figures that useless clowns like Lindsey Graham and John McCain would try to make a giant stink about "Benghazi-gate" when Obama is President while ignoring the fact that U.S. embassies were attacked seven times during the Bush Administration:
http://mediamatters.org/research/2012/09/14/krauthammer-whitewashes-bushs-history-to-bash-o/189890
Plus the House cutting embassy security didn't help any...but the GOP doesn't mention that...hmmm...

Everytime I think I have seen the stupidest post ever, someone like you comes along.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! John McCain sat out the war as a POW???? You, sir are a southern exposure of a northbound horse.
Should Rice have lied based on the information given her at that time? Does it matter? Yes, 4 dead, but who cut the budgets for security at our embassies in the first place? The House! The republican scum has been making mountains out of mole hills about this for months now! Get over it and do something!
Had Graham and McCain been given the same intelligence reports Ms. Rice had, I wonder what would THEY have said? She wasn't in Bengazi. She was essentially reading whatever the CIA and White House gave her. She was just the messenger. So now, the GOP wants to shoot her.
Certainly. Anything to bash Obama, whether justified or not...
To those still beating the Benghazi drum:
Most Americans understand that when we go into very dangerous parts of the world, things happen.
Obama didn't send us there, but it sounds to most of us as though the GOP is trying to make political hay out of the tragic, but not unforeseeable, consequence of something your own party undertook.
The truth will be found. Adjustments will be made. The value of mistakes is what you learn from them.
But bringing our government to a screeching halt based on this one incident is not rational.
Susan is black and her only other qualification is she played basketball. Her nickname is sho shot it! A real winner!
On Wednesday, a trio of GOP senators, led by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., renewed its call for a special Senate select committee to investigate the Benghazi attack, which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called “a national security debacle long in the making.”---------------
Dear Senators McCain and Graham,
You just don't seem to get it. Your party lost the election. Why? Be cause the American people are fed up with what you offer and demand. We're tired of you wasting time calling for investigations that are meant for nothing more than scoring political points wigth the voters. America has spoken: pull your head out of your a s s and get to work on solving the problems we face. Otherwise you may be in the unemployment line when you next come up for reelection.
Tigerloser,
You're a real winner too! NOT!
I doubt you'd spew that drivel is you were talking about Condoleezza Rice!
Anyone who thought the Republicans would come back with a renewed belief that they're in Washington to do the work of the people was hopelessly naive. The GOPTP will not be an honest player in the government of the United States until sheer, heartless, undeniable marginalization in the political process causes them to divorce themselves from the bat-crazy base. No serious political party can disavow science, seek to institute a theocracy, completely deny any semblance of fiscal sanity, work to turn a democratic republic into a new aristocracy, abandon the societal compact that "we're all in this together", and practice lying on a massive scale as a normal part of its political calculus.
The one and only goal of the Republican Party has been, is, and will remain becoming a one party government. Democrats for once took that threat seriously and prevailed as a result. They ignore that lesson at their own peril as was proven in 2000, 2004, and 2010.
Many many many more Rednecks will fall in 2014. They are digger deeper into their graves!
McCain is a senile old fool who's only claim to fame is that as an incompetentpiolt he was shot down and captured
It's time this old man was put to bed.
And Bush took nearly 70 trips to his ranch on our dime, and nearly 3 years away from the WH. What's your point?
Name me the modern day President that took the least amount of time off. So little in fact, that some people wondered if he would be OK not taking time off. (see below)
All Presidents need time away from the WH. Deal with it.
That President was Bill Clinton.
Good to hear. Not very smart to hamstring your growth because of childish blind hate though. At least you have shown yourself to be an ignorant business owner. Who would want to be employed by someone that rejects growth in favor of hate?
So, when people quit or get fired, you wont hire anyone to replace them, right?
You people are such hypocrites. You know darn well that if this Benghazi incident happened under a republican president, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER IT! Don't lie. You and the press and the congress --ALL OVER IT!
If you were sincere, honest people, you would be calling for an investigation yourselves, just to get to the bottom of it, even if only to prove it was nothing after all.
Shameful.
Oh, BS, Lisa.
It DID happen under Republican Presidents. All of them in recent history.
Check out this chart:
Attacks on US Diplomatic Targets
I don't recall the Democrats demanding a Congressional special investigation of ANY of them.
More trash reporting from the liberal rag MSNBC.
"Bipartisan" and "compromise" do NOT mean that the republicans should shut up and do whatever the democrats want. The whole point of having 2 parties is so that we don't end up with mindless group think and a whole bunch of crap that no one wants because one party has a monoply. That being said, "compromise" also doesn't mean an automatic answer of no just because the other side suggested it. The guiding principle for the President and the Congress should be to do what is in the best interest of the vast majority of the people of the United States. Compromise has historically meant that no one gets everything they want but everyone gets something that they want.
Dear Mr. President and Members of Congress.
The election is over so stop politicking and get to work on solving the problems of the nation you have sworn to serve.
Seven U.S. Embassies And Consulates Were Attacked Under George W. Bush
2002: U.S. Consulate In Karachi, Pakistan, Attacked; 10 Killed, 51 Injured.
2004: U.S. Embassy Bombed In Uzbekistan.
2004: Gunmen Stormed U.S. Consulate In Saudi Arabia.
2006: Armed Men Attacked U.S. Embassy In Syria
2007: Grenade Launched Into U.S. Embassy In Athens.
2008: Rioters Set Fire To U.S. Embassy In Serbia.
2008: Ten People Killed In Bombings At U.S. Embassy In Yemen.
Election 2008 we had the idiots Mcconnell, and Boehner, election 2012 we have two new idiots, McCain, and Lindsey...
I'll dubbed them; "Angry White People"
You know they feel bad, they are 0-2, while President Obama supporters are 2-0!!!
Everyone needs to send e-mails and letters to the Republicans demanding that they work with the President or resign.
Republicans, you work for us, the tax payers. Work with the President on his agenda or you will be gone.
I totally agree. And hashing over Benghazi for the next 8 months gets us NOWHERE - except over the cliff.
No, it's the truth. If you're looking for the sort of hateful pablum that will satisfy the right wing lunatic in you, visit rushlimbaugh.com. I'm sure you'll find enough lies and distortion to keep you happy for a while.
I don't think these people care much about what the citizens’
want, they don't really work for us, they work for big business and
lobbyist. The most we could do is
possibly overwhelm their email system for a day, maybe two, before we are shut
out completely.
People who are upset about other people casting aspersions on Sen. McCain's career as a POW ought to dig a little deeper. Even men that were with him at the Hanoi Hilton spoke out against him during the last election when he ran for president. His code name was songbird. His life was spared because of his grandfather and father, the important Navy Admirals. He was a valuable bargaining chip. Other men, not so fortunate in their parentage, died there. Not only that, but the reason he was shot down was that he disobeyed orders to return to base, because he was hunting for personal glory not service to his country.
tigerlover ...
Susan Rice did her JOB! Funny that! She actually did what she was supposed to do and say.
And this ...
I'm white, played basketball and volleyball and BONUS threw the javelin (Mitt's Secret Security name) so what on earth does that make me???? I'm sure you've some tale to tell . . . .
@ Allen-2635884 post 1.1,
We shouldn't be waiting 2 years. The Democrats just missed the opportunity to get rid of Boehner but they claim it's a republican state (Ohio) so no one will vote to replace him. Yet Obama won the state. It's absolutely stupid to think that way after the B.S. we have been dealing with from Republicans for the last 4 years and with the turn out we had this election. Everyone knows Boehner is nothing but a drunk and won't force his party to work with others. People we are first Americans then we are party members but not all belong to one party or the other so we need to find people that will work together and get rid of those that won't. What we have now is not a government at all but children that are arguing over what color the bicycle is even though it has flat tires. The time to act was Nov. 6th or better 2 years ago. The Republican's have told you over and over they won't raise taxes and won't end Bush's Tax Vacation for the wealthy with out ending them for the rest of us (lower income), so let them end. Close all these damn loopholes the rich are using and let's see how much Romney likes it when he's paying 38%. Let him move to another country if he doesn't like it. He doesn't keep his money here any way, I think we should tell him to leave!
tigerlover-4113331, of course you won't be hiring anyone in the next four years. you've never hired anyone in your life except the occasional paperboy and he actually worked for the local paper, not you. Got news for you, Archie, when this economy is restored to a reasonable level of wage disparity once again, everybody will be hiring. The economy has struggled mightily with this "trickle-down" fairy-tale.
Henry Ford exploded with success when he decided to pay his workers enough to buy the very product that they manufactured. Increased wages fueled a tremendous demand to supply more Fords that demanded more workers who bought even more Fords. See how that works?
No sane or legitimate businessman would forecast a freeze in hiring for four years. His only goal is to increase demand, sales and production. He hopes to hire 10x his workforce within four years to meet that demand. Peddle that snake-oil somewhere else. We ain't buying it.
The voters "desire for problem solving and cooperation"?
I'm all for cooperation and problem solving ... once the "neener neener we won" noises finally die down and we can start hearing ourselves talk again.
I dislike the neverending gloating and insults directed at Republicans as well.
And everyone should demand the truth about Benghazi, regardless of their political preference or affiliation. I can't even imagine how these men's families will feel if this is thrown under the rug.
Every American should also demand our ambassadors and embassies' staff be protected by highly competent security teams so this never happen again.
That's little in this world that is more pathetic than a bunch of publicly squabbling old men.
Have these people really not learned anything after their spanking? We were wondering if maybe things would change, we didn't have to wonder for long. I think the plan for the next election is to make some half-hearted immigration reform laws and march Mark Rubio out on the stage and just count on the Latino voters they pick up from their efforts. They haven't figured out that wasn't the major problem. The major problem is that they just don't represent us, any of us except for the wealthy. They don't do anything for the good of the country and they are still using the obstructionist agenda to try to win an election. They need to get off their high horse and get to work trying to figure out how to help us here at home.
Ruck the Fepublicans...Always have sucked, always will suck.
T-shirt made by Nina Turner (Dem. Senator in Ohio) GOP = Get Outta my Panties.
Elections have consequences: Tea-Republicans, you lost so get over it losers and enjoy the ride for the next 4 years with Obama/Biden and then the next 8 after that with the Hillary Clinton/Bill Clinton ticket 2016!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 and beyond....hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa
@LyndaAZ#1.73: Thank you so much ma'am. Your post is correct and needed to be spoken. While I wish Him no personal ill will, John McCain is a sorry excuse for a patriot, and an even sorrier example of an elected official who holds the trust of those He purports to represent. Best regards
UnitedStates1776....."Did
weI leave anybody out?"Yes, uniformed Progressives.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Obama's speech today was quite interesting and used the same rhetoric as he used during his 2008 campaign: "I will work across the aisle....(muttering.....My Way or the Highway)".
Yep, continue to give a rosy picture of what he will do and then turn around and use back room deals, or just use Fiat Executive Orders or his Progressive Cabinet members to "change" regulations to get his agenda through:
BTW: a list of his regulation changes were supposed to be provided to Congress prior to implementation and ACCORDING TO FEDERAL LAW which he has refused to follow.
Yep, Mr. Obama is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY going to work across the aisle. If you believe that, I have salt waterfront property in Colorado to sell you.
Lindsey Graham said someone need to be held accountable for Benghazi. Is he and his fellow GW Bush loving Republicans willing to be held accountable for the Iraq War and the thousands of American servicemen and women killed and injured there - for a hoax of a war? Remember Colin Powell's speech at the U.N. ? I do - he was fed a bunch of lies and carried them to the United Nations.
Kevin Q
What you are saying as well is "Ruck the men who died in Benghazi", as you seem to be one of the people who would like to throw their deaths under the rug.
And here we go again with another typical, and so very mature "neener neener we won" post. I respect the decision of the majority, Obama is our President for better or worse. Get over yourself already, do you want cooperation or antagonism?
This shouldn't even be about Republicans or Democrats, this should be about the ambassador and the other men who died in Benghazi, it should be about giving closure to their families as well.
Yes, Yes, Admiral McCain, John's father, isn't he the guy that sold, down the river, the US Navy sailors who were aboard the USS Liberty when it was nearly sunk by the Israel's IAF in 1967. Over 50 of our sailors died. Admiral McCain made a mockery out of the hearing. And our sailors were sunk all over again. Now his son, John is up in arms about an attack that killed 4 people. What a bunch of BS.
I would say that anyone that is a republican is lower than a child molester, but ironically, almost every republican is both.
PS. To all you nuts still talking about Benghazi, get a life. No one cares. It is old news. Mainstream America has moved on.
Just stopped in here to see if the progressives get it yet...nope...it is still "my way or the highway"...so far seven states are asking for the highway...just thought you would like to know.
Mandates...we won...not so fast...nothing changed and America lost.
@ the moderators of the forum I am requesting a supsension for clwyd-2621393 for the following comment.
Ed-Navdoc,
A friend once told to get F'ed! I relay that same message to you sir!
Or are progressives immune to suspension for violation of the code?
OeterK
"I would say that anyone that is a republican is lower than a child molester" ,
that means they are lower than you and yours , you know , the child molesters
oh and we know you leftist faux-tolerants don't care that your Pope Barry got our Ambassador killed , it's in your genes
LyndaAZ-
I am sorry. Did I offend you by defending Sen. McCain? I didn't know your service to your country was so extensive that you could qualify his service. What theater did you fight in again and where were you held when you were captured? I couldn't give a damn if we were talking about John McCain, John Kerry, or my neighbor down the street who lost his leg in WWII. To state, as NC1234 did, that Sen. McCain is a "warmonger who sat out the war as a prisoner" is offensive to anyone who has served, especially those who served in an active theater. I would really prefer something along the lines of, "I don't agree with Sen. McCain's politics but thank him for his sacrifice." Where do you get off trying to qualify how good or bad his experience as a POW was. Unbelievable.
Anna, you pretty much summed it up.
Here's my thoughts. [Disclaimer: I'm a staunchly liberal democrat. (Hey, at least I admit it)]
Personally, I don't think it is right to come out and make comparisons of a public servant who was doing her job, to the Watergate scandal. These were and are very different situations, and to make such a comparison is a low blow.
I do understand why Republicans are doing what they are doing, since their ideology is different from the Democrats and my own. However, the reason (from my perspective) why the election results are the way they are is this: American wants its elected representatives to work together. There was NOT a massive swing in either direction. (Seriously $6 billion for status quo, can you believe that... Now back on topic...)
When America gets the whole story, it can make an educated and wise decision, why don't they release the information and we can pressure congress whether to make her Secretary of State or not? It seems like a reasonable thing to do in a Democracy, where the people's voice is supposed to matter in some way shape or form. If Congress doesn't work together, then really it our blunder as a people for trusting politicians who wasted $6 billion to get reelected only to not be true to their words.
So there you have it. The perspective of a liberal college student who just finished an election where I voted for Legalizing Gay Marriage, and Marijuana. Not unreasonable though no?
Winning by 2% is not a mandate for anything.
Reps got voted in , so cleaning house ain't on the agenda.
OeterK
Nice comment OeterK. I doubt Americans have ever been as divided as they are right now (minus the civil war), and your insulting statements are not helping.
Say that to their families. I for one DO care, and I can only imagine how their families would feel reading comments like yours.
This is our problem, we're throwing insults around and arguing rather than focusing on what actually is going on.
How about an actual opinion?
Heres mine: I'm fine with Ambassador Rice being the Secretary of State, but frankly I'd like the whole story on the Benghazi incident.
Also, just because I'm a liberal does NOT under any circumstances mean that I do not respect the families or the men and women who die for this country. It is wrong disrespect what they are doing for this country whether you agree with them or not.
While the news may be old by now, People should always care about American's who lost their lives. OeterK is out of line.
However, Don't use military service as a shield for bad policies. I respect John McCains military service, but right now I am strongly against his policies. Do not use what I respect about him as a shield for what I don't.
UnitedStates1776
You forgot I (GOP) hate lazy people that want more of what I have without working like I did for it.
You forgot I (GOP) hate those that feel entitled
You forgot I (GOP) hate those that want me to pay for their medical care.
You forgot I (GOP) hate those that don't take responsibility for themselves
You forgot I (GOP) hate those that blame others for their mistakes (Bushes economy 4+ years later)
You forgot I (GOP) hate Presidents who pick and chose who will fail
I could go on for ever, it is too easy but I am getting board and in all honesty I don't think you are smart enough to catch on anyway!
With all that said bring on the fiscal cliff, I will end up paying more no matter how you look at it. I can afford Obama's stupidity but I doubt that most of those who voted for him can. Obama has no clue how to fix thing, tell the truth or be President. I hope the GOP holds strong, lets the tax breaks for all expire so we can get the inevatable behind us. This government will not stop the spending and freebies until we are literally in deep trouble and have no other choice. So again lets get there and get there quick so those that think there are unlimited dollars will finally realize the money fairy does not exist. I would encourage all of the wealthy to look for any tax shelter they can find, close the doors to their business if they have one and live up to the image the liberals have of you. Once your tax dollars stop they may wake up because there is no one left to supper their sorry ass.
Hello A Musical Impulse
Exactly.
I agree.
I think Gay Marriage will eventually be legalized no matter what, and I don't blame you for supporting this. As far as legalizing Marijuana, I don't know if this will happen or not, but it is not really about Democrats or Republicans, the State of Alaska has a majority of Republicans and many wish to legalize Marijuana.
Nice talking to you Musical, and I wish you good luck and the best in life.
-Anna- Thanks for speaking up about this. The commentaries about what happened or did not happen at Benghazi sre like Monday morning quaterbacking.
The facts remain, Republican senators John McCain, AZ., and Lindsey Graham, SC, are liars who have outlived their usefulness; and, Senator Kelly Ayotte, N.H., by aligning herself with them, is collateral damage.
Today, they told bold face lies and distortions of the facts in attacking Ms. Rice. For their grievous comments and lack of good judgment, the three of them should apologize to the people of the United States.
Lindsey Graham is an ardent bigot and racist, don't expect that dolt to compromise on anything. John McCain is bitter about losing to Obama and bitter that Romney lost to Obama as well. What do Republicans expect to gain by continuing to be a**holes to 52% of the electorate and alienating other members of Congress whom they must work with in order to stop the sequester. Guess we all pay more taxes and if we do, there will be an overwhelming movement to tax capital gains at 39% so the wealthy pay their fair share.
A Musical Impulse-
I hope you are not referring to me when you say "Do not use what I respect about him as a shield for what I don't." I clearly stated that I couldn't care less about whether or not someone agrees with John McCain politically. On the other hand, If someone choose to throw dispersions at him over his military service, I will respond in a way that may seem insulting.
You want an opinion?
I could care less about who Obama names Secretary of State. It is out of my control. I think that somewhere something was covered up in the Benghazi event. I think Gays should be able to marry, women have control of their body, and the bulk of government be instituted on the municipality, county, and state levels. I don't want the federal government running things as, in my lifetime, they have never been terribly effective at running anything. I am worried that Obama is going to govern hard from the left and that the Republicans will not abandon their slide to the far right. I think the fed has too much power and that low interest rates, high debt, continuing bailouts, and cumbersome social programs are going to be felt further down the road when I will be less able and less inclined to produce a high income. In short, I am worried that there is no leadership in Washington and neither side is disproving my fears.
I respect your candor in your posts and agree with you on a civil discourse but unfortunately these forums are a mirror of what we see in Washington so it is rare. The funny thing is, those not falling in step with either partisan side get frustrated as well and it often degrades what is often intended to be voice of moderation. I will however defend against anybody who has the gall to belittle anybody who served their country, whether that be militarily or in some other form, especially when such a sacrifice as Sen. McCain and thousands of others made far exceeds those made by most of the people posting here.
I am an independent voter. I have voted for each party several times. I am distressed to see the political parties always at each others throats. I tend to vote for the party that is able to make compromises and work for the good of the country even if they have suffered defeat at the polls. In fact it is at this time in particular that a losing party can shine by showing that they value the welfare of our country more than their own egos and participate in our government to make things work rather than to hope for our country's failure so they can say "we told you so". It's simple. The American people want to elect true Americans who want our government to work for the betterment of our people, not for their own partisan one-upmanship. Now is the time when leaders need to arise from the defeated party. Or they can squabble and blame and distort facts and lead their party toward a worse defeat next time. Right now the Republicans have a deficit of leadership. The Republicans who can swallow their pride long enough to work successfully toward an effective government will be the ones we will most likely look toward as leaders in the future. At this point it's not apparent who this will be. The Republicans may not like it, but the Democrats have found the best leaders at this time, especially for the Presidential spot. If they want to stay relevant in American politics they need to find these leaders soon. If they want our country to succeed, we need their leadership now. I pray that these leaders will surface soon and help create a bi-partisan effort toward the success of our country.
Just two thoughts related to this issue in the most remote way:
On Biased Media - FOX is the most biased of all of the networks. My cousin is a Political Science Professor - she's the head of the Department at her University. She has focused extensively on politics and how events are portrayed in the media, has written books on the subject. She did a book on this subject and that was the result - that FOX was, by far, the most biased.
And lest any of you think that my cousin is a "typical liberal elitist" - she teaches at a religious university and she is a conservative. She is very religious, she teaches the youth group at the baptist church she attends, and she has voted for the republican party her entire life, but she doesn't allow her own beliefs to interfere with her job / research.
On Rewriting History - I keep seeing comments made on different boards, on YouTube - people insisting that President Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. were either more conservative back then (MLK) or they'd be a conservative now if they were alive (JFK).
That's rot and most people with common sense would know that. The conservatives have consistently been on the wrong side of history, so now they're trying to re-write it, by claiming that those leaders who DID make the right decisions MUST be conservatives.
I call BS. MLK's daughter Alvida, who is a raging homophobe, has tried to say that her father was a republican. Her entire family, her mother Coretta (before she died) her brothers - all denounced her. MLK was never a registered republican, never voted for them (he voted for Johnson in '64). And if anybody knew his political beliefs the best - I think that's his wife and the men who worked alongside him. Before she died Coretta Scott King made it clear Martin wouldn't approve of the way the republican party is acting now. And she also said that Martin would have been in favor of equal rights for the GLBT community, including the right to marry.
As for President Kennedy, he wouldn't be a conservative now for many reasons and he wasn't a conservative then. He wouldn't be one now because John Kennedy firmly believed in the separation of church and state. During his campaign he stressed that he wasn't "the catholic candidate" for the presidency. He was "the Democratic candidate who happened to be catholic." And he made a point of telling all of those idiot ministers he spoke to - that he would never allow his personal religious beliefs, or the Vatican's opinions, to influence the decisions he made as Commander in Chief.
Considering you can't even practically get elected anymore as a republican, unless you wear your religion on your sleeve, and vow that you WILL inject your religious beliefs into politics - the republican party today would have no use for President Kennedy. They had no use for him when he was in office.
He never made "conservative decisions". He wanted to end the Cold War in his second term, he was talking peace with the Soviets, had signed that Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, and he'd already made the decision to remove troops from Vietnam (NSAM 263 signed in October of '63). The conservatives in the government and the military hated him for that. Guys like that psycho General Curtis LeMay, Lansdale, etc. they thought he was "soft on communism". When he arrived in Texas one of those right wing organizations was responsible for those posters accusing him of treason.
The Steel Crisis in '62. When the major steel companies jacked up the interest rates after President Kennedy had brokered this agreement, and they made a point of calling him and rubbing it in his face telling him they'd broken it, that they'd even sent an announcement to the newspapers - if John Kennedy was a conservative / republican, he wouldn't have interfered when they jacked the rates up. He would have sided with the Steel Corporations.
Instead, John Kennedy told them "You just made a big mistake" and he sicked Bobby on them. He said that those fat, juicy military contracts were no longer going to United Steel or any of the other companies who had taken part in that stunt, that the contracts were going to smaller companies who hadn't taken part in it. John Kennedy broke them within two days. After two days the guy from United Steel called him, telling him they were ready to negotiate. He suggested that they lower the rates by half. John Kennedy basically told them "How about you lower them 100%. Then we'll talk". And he won - and big business hated him for it. His own comment was telling, "My father always told me that businessmen were SOB's, but I never believed him until now."
The Civil Rights Movement - he would have ignored them or openly endorsed segregation. Instead he came down on the side of the marchers. And the Dixiecrats - the more conservative democrats in the south - hated him for it. And that's when they all abandoned the Democratic Party and began voting republican. LBJ even said when he signed it - that the democrats had lost the south for one hundred years," or a generation - one of those two.
And as with Martin - I think if anybody knew how President Kennedy would have voted, which way he would've leaned politically if he were alive today - it would be those who knew him best. In his case, his sisters and brother who had been alive (Jean still is), some of the men in his cabinet, etc. As Ted Kennedy and those men have said at different times - he would still be a democrat today. He would have opposed Bush's war in Iraq, he would be supporting equal rights / the right to marry for the GLBT community, just as he supported the Civil Rights marchers. He would still say that religion has no place in politics.
I just find it disgusting that some of these conservatives / republicans who despised Martin and John back then (and Bobby too) who were actually happy when they were assassinated, want to try and come back almost fifty years after the fact, claiming that they admire and respect them - but then they show that "respect" and "admiration" by trying to re-write history. In a sense, it's like they are corrupting history, the legacies of these men, who had the courage to do what was right, to actually do the will of the people, to represent the poor, the middle class, to stand up to the military, to big business, to denounce the war in Vietnam, to try and promote peace, etc. and they all died for it.
Obama proved right off the bat that he doesn't know how to get along with congress. When he gets on national television and complains about the GOP's critisism of one of his cabinet and then proclaims." I have a mandate on taxes" the people have spoken he not only shows how little in tune he is but closes the door for any hope of getting anything done in a bi-partism manner. the vote was a dead heat and far from a mandate. In 2010 there was a definate mandate andthat was to stop unfunded spending. If the GOP had not faught Obama on spending in his first term our debt woould be 20 trillion already. The republicans were sent to office to hold the line and they have. Obama is the one who has not been willing to compromise and yet blames the GOP. He thinks he is king and savior now that he was re-elected. Even Biben thinks that now the GOP must do thier bidding because they were re-elected. i have news for them . As long as Obama and the Democrats continue to send unfunding spending bills to congress they will continue to be voted down. That is the mandate of the people. We only sk that our government spend within it's means just ase we do in our daily lives. Pretty simple mister President but I guess 4 years isn't long enough for it too sink in.
If that were actually true then ANY AND ALL of those regulations would be easily overturned in court. The fact that they haven't been proves your Conservative News Service propaganda to be a lie.
Neither is losing...a lesson Republicans just can't seem to learn.
Did you feel the same way when GW Bush lost the popular vote but claimed to have a lot of "political capital"?
Obama is lying again. Yesterday, at the Press Conference, he defended Susan Rice's potential nomination as Sec. of State, by saying that she appeared on the 5 talk shows as the "Ambassador to the U.N." although he slipped and admitted that he asked her to appear. Nonetheless, despite that slip, look at the "Meet the Press" segment shown above. It is blatantly obvious the she is speaking on behalf of the Administration AND NOT AS THE U.N. AMBASSADOR. Obama's attempt to remove himself from her comments is ABSURD and trying to hide her behind the "U.N. Shield" ridiculous. She is nothing more than a puppet in the Libya cover-up and McCain is correct in objecting to her as a nominee.
Gil,
I'm the one that shares your name that is offended that you show such ignorance. She is speaking with the intelligence information that was provided to her at that time! You republican right wing nuts have been beating a dead horse for months now. Yes, the deaths were tragic, but hadn't the House, under republican control, just cut money for protection at US Embassies right before the attack? Get over it You lost and are losers. Americans will turn you into the streets in two more years! Oh, The word is "Compromise!"
WOW! Lots of GREAT! posts above and lots of votes given out, too. Not trying to grade anybody on anything with an "EXCELLENT"; just happy to see (and Thank-You) that those posts were there and speaking and saved me having to write any "reiterations" of my 2-cents worth because it was already there!!! (No time/mind, rushing again this morning)
lulu98, #1.38- EXCELLENT!!! Hard Choices- "Compromise is but the sacrifice of one right or good in the hope of retaining another- TOO OFTEN ending in the loss of both" Tyron Edwards (1809-1894), USA. Sounds like an Idiotic post-Boehner-golf-game retreat, No? I saw in an article the other day that the Prez is finally going to STOP beginning at "Center"!!! We shall see, eh?
Mac Forrester, #1.46- EXCELLENT! and #1.81- EXCELLENT-EXCELLENT!!!!!! (and "Hi!", again)

Bishop Romney sure didn't sound like much of a global figure grovelling to his financial backers, much less a holy man of the Mormon faith. I thiink of the people that the Republicans consider unimportant, I see my beautiful wife who stays at home looking after my small, toddler, and pre-school grandchildren; my mother recently retired at age 72, struggling to live on her very limited retirement income; and my mentally disabled brother who lives with my mother. Romney, the poison of greed, the worship of personal wealth has ruined him. Romney does not see the blue and ruby throated hummingbirds that I, that the many of us will fight to protect. He has a vision of dragons and sows seeds of hatred and division. Is that the Mormon way? Maybe there is a little hobbit deep inside of me. Multi-millionaires: whatever the outcome of this political process, don't tell me I don't have my priorities straight. When the American economy goes over the fiscal cliff, I won't have the option of disgracing myself, my family and my nation by hiding my money in overseas banks, or by leaving the United States for a crystal palace in Honduras. I will stay with my family and my people. How do you think that will turn out for me? Wait. Hush.
How does somepne rake in 20 million dollars a year in this poor economy? Romney says it's simple. How could it be simple, and he's one of a very few? I believe Romney truly does represent a special class of US citizen: the Republican anti-government lawmaker. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya. :)
Ido,
The venom started flowing from the right side of the extremist republican party. We are sick of Libya and the months that have dragged on with complaints about faulty intelligence. How about bush's "Weapons of Mass Destruction" that never existed and were used to start a war? Get over it! You're losers and lost! You don't know how turned off Americans are becoming with it starting up again. Polls will be interesting to show how mad the public is becoming at the extremists that have taken control of the republican party before and now after the election!
The sweet words of bipartisanship, how I have missed you!
Faulty intelligence? They have emails that said we are afraid of an imminent attack and need more security. Obama watched in the situation room the attack unfold in real time. What the hell are you talking about?
The great freedom that has come with losing is I don't give a rats a$$ what you or the American people think. The more I can piss both off the better. The American people will get mad because the media tells them to and they are stupid lap dogs, if they don't get mad the democrats will threaten to take away their handouts. Screw them and screw you. How's that for bipartisanship!
Please let us all know where you are willing to "Compromise"? I'm sure there are a lot of right wing ideas you will accept in exchange for some liberals ideas and would love you to list a few.
Monkey reaches for peanuts...gets shocked

Well with all the hate filled rhetoric being spewed on this blog why should Washington be any different. Since when has Washington been set up to give one party it's way, in a divided executive branch? Even passing a tax rate increase on the top earners solves nothing. It is obvious a huge majority of Obama supporters simply don't understand that revenue increase won't make a dent in the deficits we are running. Even the Simpson Bowles Commission proposed lowering tax rates by broadening the base. So here we have congress fighting over pennies with yet another round of name calling, finger pointing, and blame that even if passed SOLVES NOTHING. When are people going to demand that Washington get serious and quit with the political gamesmanship?
Clwyd: re: mine @ 1.103. You obviously commented without following my advise and didn't look at the "Meet the Press" segment shown in the Article. Susan Rice was obviously acting as an agent for the Administration - not as U.N. Ambassador. Did you read my comment? I'm very careful in what I write. You are one of those liberals who like to put words into peoples mouths so as to prove what ever pleases you. I did not comment on the veracity of what she said. I commented on Obama's veracity in saying that she appeared as "U.N. Ambassador" and not as a spokesperson for the Administration.
Only ignorant people comment before they read or can't read at all.
Ahh well...I was hoping for a bipartisan approach from both parties, but instead it looks like it'll be more of the same for the next 2 years at least. What's sad to me is, there are lots of areas of agreement, but they get held back by a handful of wedge issues (ex: tax rates for the rich, abortion, etc.).
The Democrats', and especially Obama's, idea of "bipartisanship" is for the GOP to give Obama everything he wants...raise taxes on EVERYONE, sock it to the job creators in particular,"invest" in already dead in the water projects (just his way of saying "thank you" for feeding my campaign chest"), invest in China, invest in Brazil, and the Middle East, trample on the Constitution, weaken our defenses.....and spend, spend, spend....lots of favors to repay.....Axelrod, Jarrett, and the rest of his lap dogs will run interference and create excuses for him, when he's caught in another lie or cover-up. Or blame anyone or anything while the country collapses.
Both sides are just posturing. The real goal is to set the blame on the other. Always has been. We forget that politicians do what they are best at...political theater. The people that have the actual qualifications for fixing these problems would never be elected.
Ron: I agree but if you want some movement Harry Reid must go. For 4 years it has seemed as if Harry has "something" on Obama that prevents Obama from telling Harry what he (Obama) wants done.
Nawtark:
I agree with most of your comments and like you I can respect your point of view where we don't see eye to eye. With that said I could't agree more with your comments about Sen. McCain, it has nothing to do with being a Republican or Democrat. I admire ANYONE who has endured what Sen. McCain has endured. I am certain there are those on both sides of he isle who have experienced similar circumstances at the hands of our enemies and for that I will always hold them in the highest regard and grateful for their sacrifices.
The constant pushback on an investigation only supports the suspicion that obama has something to hide.
It is also interesting that the liberal left media doesn’t mention all the mean spirited, divisive rhetoric coming out of the demonicrat party and the white house. What’s saddest of all is how people are buying into this without even questioning what the party and the media are doing. I'm not saying republicans are perfect, they aren't, but then again, neither is the other side but most of the ones I see here seem to thing the demonicrats are without fault.
Still waiting for that list of compromises the democrats and you liberal followers are willing to make in exchange for Republican compromise.
Gag! :o=
What right wing legislation was passed when the Republicans controlled all three branches?
Medicare prescription drug plan? - Hated it
No child left behind? - Hated it, written by Ted Kennedy
Campaign Finance reform? - Hated it, worked out great didn't it, hardly any special interest group money in campaigns now! LOL
Reagan and Bush both went for Amnesty, Reagan actually granted amnesty? - Latino voters vote for Fast and Furious Obama.
Tax cuts? - It's the only thing you got and you idiots but an expire date on it so democrats can go out and say they are not raising taxes just letting cuts expire. 8 out od the 10 richest counties in America went for Obama. Buffet, Gates, Zuckerberg, Hollywood, even Stryker medical CEO who is getting killed by Obama care and doing layoffs, all liberals. What fools you Republicans seem to be.
Can you tell me why I should give a crap the Republicans can't win an election? Seems to me the choice is between the country falling sooner rather than later.
the irrelephant republican party didn't get it before the election and they still don't. America's biggest blunder was putting them back in the house. Maybe whenever mid-term elections 2014 roll around, the same folks (plus millions more) will get the right, outta the house and remember...never let an elephant inside your house. They only feed greedily and trample anything you consider important.
McCain and Graham, Dumb and Dumber.
Time to park McCain sideways in the rest home. The old coot has lot it.
obama got re-elected yet it would be real poetic justice should he get FIRED over Benghazi-Gate before he starts his second term.
Yea the democrats did such an awesome job the last time the controlled all three 2008 - 2010. Lets see 1 trillion in stimulus spending for a net loss on jobs, and Obama care that is already running in the red before it is even fully in affect and costing people jobs, hours, and higher costs. Can't wait for more of these type of successes.
Who is going to fire him?
Pigotry
The last thing you libbies want to do is work together, you reflective attitude is confirmation of that. So when you are trying to sell that wheelbarrow full of fresh steer manure go look to somebody else. You lefties have been trying to sell this boatload of we are the communication party for the last fifteen years at least. You claim Clinton did such a good job but by the time he was re-elected he looked more like a Republican than a Dem. You have learned to make the Republican platform yours but it was never this administrations policy to work with anyone other than themselves.
Logic Required (not)... if my memory serves me (obviously better than yours does you), A republican president initiated the first TARP 800 billion or so. Oh, and that was well after he spent at least the same amount, probably much more, on two needless wars for 7 or 8 yrs. One of which was based on pure lies and conjecture. Thanks for trying to play here... I understand how hard it must be for you to think clearly beyond what Yawn Insanity, Gleen Beckon and Lush Rimballs tell ya.
Irvmani, ps. the libs won the neo-cons lost... go pitch your fit and get over it!
Clwyd and Beverly
So sorry you cannot stomach or accept the thought that not everybody shares your particular views regarding President Obama and his policies. Sounds like personal problems on your parts. He got reelected. It's over and done with and I accept that. Still there is no law that says I have to like it. At least not yet anyway.
People can say whatever they want, but the reality is that our government after this election looks exactly like our government before this election, which isn't a mandate on anything except maybe that everyone wants change in everyone but themselves.
That having been said, I'll gladly keep outta your panties if you keep your panties out of our fiscal crisis, but you just keep throwing your panties in my face, forcing me to tell you that I can't possibly support abortion because I truly believe that people are created at conception, not later, and forcing me to point out that I firmly stand behind the first amendment, which guarantees freedom of religion for everyone including you, and I'm not religious, but I certainly wouldn't want our government forcing you to do something that went against your faith (in other words, your right to sin against your god is your right alone and cannot be infringed upon by our government). Most of the social issues had no place in this national election and were purely drama manufactured by the media in order to sway voter-bases. The year that the most important issue in the nation is Gay Marriage is the year we should base our votes on our beliefs about Gay Marriage, otherwise it's a states-right issue. The year that the most important thing is a woman's right to free contraceptives from her (church) employer is the year that our votes should be based on our beliefs about women's rights, but right now there really are plenty of places to get free or close to free contraceptives. The only group of people who had any obligation to vote their demographic rather than what is in the best interest of the nation this election are the Latinos, and they were duly purchased by presidential directive assuring the majority of their votes. This year the most important issue to everyone in the nation was our financial stability, so I have unkind words that can't be typed in mixed company for people who voted solely in the interest of their underwear.
We have to understand that our votes are not ours alone--when we vote, we are supposed to be voting in the best interest of everyone. How to put the country back on the right economic path was what mattered this year, but we couldn't even have a valid conversation about what was in the best fiscal interest of everyone because we were constantly having these distractions about social issues. That's a shame.
Such is life though. Go ahead and raise taxes. That's sure to make things better.
I wish people were more educated before spewing their idiocy. First if Oblammer does get his tax through, $250K and over will pay more tax. That would include any flow through corps... like partnerships, S-Corps. Since approximately 50% of Americans are employed by small businesses... this group may actually end up unemployed. If the no tax increase across the board were initiated, this group would not be affected.
Republicans hold your ground.
Also, Libya... Rice blantantly lied. She lied. Isn't that what you libs didn't like about Romney? She lied.. knowing full well the truth. Your "president" lied... lied... knowing the truth. Clinton lied... she lied... knowing the truth... LIED. Lying... liar.
L-I-A-R-S
All you people who post and are trying to insinuate you think it is a real problem if we go off this fiscal cliff and try to blame it on the party you don't like.
YOU VOTED without changing your mind. That's why the incumbents who didn't do their jobs are back. Because of YOU. And me. Well, I voted for two incumbents and one new politician, but the latter lost.
Anyway, shut up, pay your higher taxes and lose your unions. You wanted it....
STOP COMPLAINING YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED!
:D So funny...people pretending they hate this....lol

What does GOP stand for? Manipulative-Obstructionists- Lying- Hypocrites- "The Party of NO & DO NOTHING", except obstruct. Republicans just can't stand the truth, even after way more than 1/2 of the general population spoke with their votes in spite of suppression. Just remember this in 2 years when it comes time to elect people willing to work together. Vote the extreme passe' good ole' white boy Republicans (with their war on women, minorities, middle class, and the poor) out of Congress for good. Bigoted Republicans are not what the majority of Americans want. You Republicans have lost some seats in the House and the Senate. If you Republicans continue your self-serving, greedy agenda, you will be shown an even greater loss or support in 2 years. Vote out the good ole' white boys like: McCain and McConnell. It's time for them to pass the baton and retire to the rocking chair. With them gone, maybe then something can get done in Congress.
The GOP needs to do a really good reality check on the validity of their agenda. They are completely out of touch with reality with everyday life and the populace!!
astuck,
Bush lied about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq and started a war over his lies! So what is your point?
Gil,
Only extremists get worked up over titles when the real thing is the truth about the 4 deaths based on the information that was made available at the time. How about WMD?????????????? I read, but couldn't believe your ignorance wither! Blinded by the brainwashing of the right!
Logic Required (not)... if my memory serves me (obviously better than yours does you), A republican president initiated the first TARP 800 billion or so.
Tarp - $800 billion bail out of banks started under Bush.
Stimulus - $800 billion for "shovel ready" jobs was written and passed by Democrats and Obama.
Two total different bills and events. Your memory may be better than mine but your facts are not.
Try the Wall Street Journal, it's tough reading for democrats because they use big words like "growth" which you guys don't seem to be familiar with.
http://blogs.wsj.com/in-charge/2011/02/24/stimulus-vs-bailout-whats-the-difference/
The old fail safe, point the finger at Bush. It never gets old.
How are biological weapons classified? Are they not weapons of mass destruction?
A Musical Impulse
Thank you for the one of the most reasonable and well thought out responses posted here today. I am a right leaning Independent and while I may not share all of your views, I recognize good common sense when I see it. Non confrontational straight talk can work wonders sometimes. I wish we had more people like you in DC. Again my thanks and have a good evening.
clwyd: Get back on your bar stool, if you can.
Logic,
I know the truth hurts about bush, but that is why he is sighted so often! He was the "WORST PRESIDENT EVER" and we are still suffering from his governing. Now, of course, he hides in Texas on his ranch for 4 years knowing that the International Court in the Hague has a warrant out for his arrest for war crimes. But of course, the Court is just "pointing the finger" like so many are! Too bad you want to bury your head to the truth and not hear it!
Gil, Oh I hate using my name in vane!
I haven't had a drink or been in a bar for 12 years now.
In fact, I was correcting some college papers on the election as it is the end of the Quarter. I even gave some lame republican students who predicted a Romney win for all the wrong reasons, but had good thoughts on their subject B's for their effort. College students are really very bright on politics when it comes to my class and they sure put you to shame. Me too at times!
Sorry to hear that.
Stand firm Mr. President.........don't let the republicans hold one more American hostage in order to protect the wealthy or further their party agenda when they should be furthering the agenda of the will of the American people..........
if they want us to go over the cliff....then let us grab the GOP in a lasting embrace and take them with us..............we either succeed as one nation or we go down as one nation............no more fighting and sacrificing hard working Americans...............these GOP with their wealth, and nice suits, and great pay, and great benefits packages and carefree attitude about the suffering of the American people can join us all as we step out into the unknown..............after all they are the ones who took us here.
Go ahead and take us over the cliff..............because we won't be held hostage again..........with what the GOP has worked so very hard to make sure Americans suffer long and grievously these past 4 years they surely don't expect us to be afraid of the this cliff scenario they are pushing us towards...do they?...............see, we have no fear any more and without the fear you, the GOP, have no power.........
SO LETS DANCE GOP!!..............BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!......I'M READY TO STEP OFF THE CLIFF---ARE YOU?!

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
--Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
--Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by:
-- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
-- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999
"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by:
-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001
"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them."
-- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
-- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
-- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
-- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
-- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do"
-- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
-- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
-- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

"College students"...hahaha...are brainwashed lemings being tutored in the ways of faux-tolerants such as yourself ,
the fact that you would even use the term "lame republican students" proves that either you are a liar and not a "teacher - I use that term loosely" or a prime leftist indoctrinator , doesn't matter which as either shows that you are a leming ideologue yourself
If America is going to go off the fiscal cliff, Congress will be driving the truck like in the movie Duel.
No that will be Obama in a Chevy Volt - Congress is the only thing keeping the dept to only increasing 1.25 trillion a year
lol Jeff, Congress hasnt done crap the last 2 years thanks to the GOP...if you doubt me, look at their votes. class is dismissed
lol, congress didnt do crap the 2 years prior to that with full control by the dems, but Im sure that was some how teh GOP too.
When I read posts like the one from Jeff-725167 it's becomes apparent that Fox News is still pumping out lies and disinformation and there are still plenty of weak minded people out there that believe every word.
what about teh idiots that believe every word obama says. He has proven he has NO CLUE what to do about the fiscal future of America. His social policies are more in line with the general public, fine. But the dude is clueless on a worldly level and especially on a fiscal level.
I hate the GOP, hate the Dems, and anyone who supports either blindly is a fool and deserves what is happening to this country.
STOP BEING SHEEP PEOPLE! THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ARE EQUALLY TO BLAME, DONT BE SUCH @!$%#ING IDIOTS!
Agreed ,!!
Whatistheworldcomingto, idiotsabound-
But if people don't align themselves with a party how will they know what to post on internet message boards? Phsh... it is much easier and more fun to pick sides and call the other side funny names.
The Republicans promised jobs in 2010-They have failed on their promise- they need to stop blaming Obama for their failures of the last 2 years-They failed to keep their promise. Where are the jobs, Mr. Boehner, Where are the jobs your party promised!!!!!!
jokerjo
I believe that all of the jobs that the president says were created during the last 24 months were created under a Republican house. A hell of a lot more than during the Dem control periord of the House when they screwed around with Health Care and the stimilus.
And that truck appears to have no brakes at the moment!
Wish we could just dock their pay for every day this continues to be unresolved. If they were working anywhere else, they would've been fired/bankrupt long ago.
The radical TEA Party or should I say Pee Party will be gone in thee next midterm election
The American people will see them as they are THE WORST CONGRESS IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES!
AND THE GOP BRAND WILL WILL THROWN ON THE TRASH HEAP of HISTORY!
along with the fascists!
The only time during the first two years of Obama's Presidency that the Democrats had the necessary 60 votes in the Senate to overcome the GOP's mindless filibusters was 24 DAYS.
Yes, that's right - 24 days.
Those were the only opportunities to get something done - when both Teddy Kennedy and Robert Byrd were alive and in their seats (not out sick), and when all seats were filled (Al Franken) and Scott Brown hadn't been elected.
That's it. Yes, the GOP is responsible for the lack of progress in this country.
Man up and take responsibility for the tantrum you've pitched for 4 years, GOP.
I thought it was 72 days that the Democrats had control RealAmericanFirst.
Either way, it's still a far cry away from this magical two years I keep hearing.
Filibusters and vacancies always seem to be ignored, or perhaps people aren't smart enough to look at the whole picture and will choose partisan hate over reality.
NYMike - I think the difference in your figures and mine are that mine only count voting days that the Senate was in session.
But the basic truth remains - the GOP has manned an armed blockade of this country ever since Obama was elected. And they're starving us all.
RealAmericansFirst and NYMike-
Your mindless partisan drivel is ridiculous. The Democrats were in a majority the first two years of Mr. Obama's presidency. The Senate still had moderate Republicans with a history of working across the aisle and controlled a heavy majority in the House. If they could not work across the aisle in those conditions they are just as culpable as the Republicans so quit trying to sell that bull. The problem now, as you all are bemoaning, is that the Republicans won't work across the aisle. Seems to me it takes two to tango and the Democrats aren't giving much wiggle nor did they when they had that itty bitty majority the first two years under President Obama. In fact, I recall Democrats having to cajole members of their own party to pass health care.
If the problem is that Republicans won't work on a bipartisan solution, it is a shared problem that disputing culpability won't fix. Both sides need to take responsibility and get what needs to be done taken care of. Phsh... God help us all should either of the parties, in their current incarnation, get control with an unhindered super majority.
Nawtark is pretty much right...Both parties refuse to budge at all. Even now obasma says he is willing to hear new ideas and work with them as long as he gets what he wants...some incentive to work with him there. I think at this point I would rather just see nothing happen and maybe then all Americans would wake up and stop blaming the other group. But of course that would never happen...it could never be that both parties refused to work together could it...just one or the other refused to give in to everything the other wanted. We need to hit the fiscal cliff head on and suffer...maybe then we can wake up and re-learn how to work together.
You want bi-partisan agreements change the rules of engagement.
For every day the budget runs a deficit no legislator gets paid until the budget is balanced and no travel expenses are covered, no health care by the government, and no cocktail parties and catered meals on the tax payer dime. No excuse retroactive to the first day we ran a deficit to include retirement and any other support given to legislators who are responsible but no longer in the Congress. Attach all earning from stock purchases during the members time of service retro active to the day of the first deficit. The services to the members offices will be cut until they balance the budget and they will have to serve on their own dime until it is fixed. Watch as the chambers empty and these empty suits run for home. We then replace them with middle income Americans who want to make a difference drawn by lottery in the several states they represent. The new legislators get paid the same rate as our enlisted service men and women with the same medical coverage through the VA and serve the already determined terms for each House. Think people would want a gravy job like that? Maybe we would find people who want to get the job done and go home at the end of their term as they should.
Listen we are being told lie after lie from the white house right now. Either Obama is being lied to by everyone or he does not know what is going on. Look at the Petraeus scandal now. Obama said no sensitive info. Now they say she had a computer full of sensitive info. Do they think that most Americans are stupid or it just does not matter anymore. They can lie and we just follow them over the cliff.
Benghazi and petraues do not need to be swept under the rug. Man up and get the truth!
Nawtark
Here are the facts:
Apparently everyone forgot the President needed 60 votes in the Senate to pass legislation. Newsflash!! The healthcare bill was passed using "reconciliation", because there were not 60 Democrats in the Senate.
Immigration, Gay Rights could not be passed with the same process because it is reserved for budgetary matters. The Stimulus was hijacked by the Republicans and job-creating measures were traded for tax cuts because...there were not 60 Democratic votes to pass it.
Apparently no one remembers that Scott Brown was sworn into office in February of 2010. At that time, the President had only been in office for ONE year. Most folks remember that the election of Scott Brown reduced the number of Democratic senators to 59. So the President could not have possibly had Congressional control for two years.
Here's the timeline:
When the election dust settled, Democrats had won 59 seats; the Republicans 41.
January 20, 2009 - After suffering a seizure during Barack Obama's inaugural luncheon, Senator Kennedy’s health forced him to retreat to Massachusetts. Also Senator Al Franken of Minnesota had not been seated because the previous Senator, Norm Coleman challenged the election results.
So at the beginning of his Presidency, Democrats had 57 elected senators…55 Democrats and 2 Independents.
Why do you think he had to compromise with Republicans on the Stimulus bill? He didn’t have enough Democrats to pass the bill! Why don't you people who moan such disappointment know this?
April 28, 2009 news outlets issued the following report:
Republican Sen. Arlen Specter has switched parties, which would give Democrats a filibuster-proof 60 seats. You do remember the filibuster? The Republicans employed it more than in any time in history for the express purpose of stalling legislation.
Despite the fact that the media hailed the party switch of Arlen Specter and claimed it gave Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate, the Minnesota seat still remained vacant. The Senate had 56 sitting Democratic members and 2 Independents. Technically, the Senate was two members short, but I'm counting Senator Kennedy even though he was at home ill because he did cast a vote in June. 59
May 15, 2009 Senator Robert Byrd was admitted to the hospital reducing the number of sitting Senators to 55 Democratic members and 2 Independents. 57
July 7, 2009 Al Franken (D) was sworn in after the election dispute over the Minnesota seat was decided in his favor. Senator Kennedy continued to recuperate at his home in Massachusetts and was unable to cast any more votes; Senator Byrd was still in the hospital. The Senate had 56 sitting Democratic members and 2 Independents. 58
July 21, 2009 Senator Byrd returned to the Senate making the count 59 seats. No Senator Kennedy.
Senator Kennedy died August 25, 2009.
The Kennedy seat was vacant from August 25 - September 24 when Paul G. Kirk was appointed to occupy his seat until the completion of a special election. The swearing-in of Kirk gave the Democrats a 60-seat majority.
Democrats had a 60 seat majority from September 24, 2009 thru February 4, 2010. 4 months; not 2 years!!
This does not account for the number of days Congress was not even in session during that time. If one subtracts the number of days Congress was out, the time that President Obama had a Democratic majority in Congress is further reduced by more than 30 days, or another full month.
Of a possible 94 legislative days during that period, the Senate was only in session for 67 days, while the House only labored for 54.
It still appears that the exploited republicans, and their rich friends who have been flim-flammed by their consultants and media moguls still don't get it. They were lied to by their own. For MONEY. Sheeesh. You would think that the GOP would understand why people would lie for money. Even to their own family. Now there's real family values. ROFLMAO
If Republicans give in on the Bush tax cuts for the top earners and at the end of Obama's second term the national debt is still well over 20 trillion then what do we do? It is amazing how adamant Obama supporters are on this issue, it is like a pack of wolves fighting over a chicken bone even though it won't feed any of them. This whole argument is nothing but smoke and mirrors, and in no way shape or form a serious attempt to fix our nations fiscal house. If ever anyone needed to point to the failing of our schools, this whole argument is a pretty grave example.
When Obama says he has a plan to cut 4 trillion from our deficit over 10 years, why do people think that is something to cheer about? We are running 1.2 trillion dollar annual deficits, which means cutting out 4 trillion still leaves the nation 8 trillion in the hole at the end of 10 years. Obama promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term, and now he would need to cut it by nearly 81% to meet his first term promise. This isn't an argument to fix anything. This is a demonstration of how easy it is to fool the masses.
You would think the liberals on here would be happy the One won re-election and just shut up. I can't wait to hear them whine as Obamacare starts to raise taxe and take away from the house hold budgets. Affordable Healthcare Act, yeah, right. That is why TRICARE PRIME is going to disappear. That is the affordable insurance I earned the right to use after serving 20 years of my life for this sorry excuse of a government. How is taking away my affordable health insurance and forcing me into something more expensive going to help me? I guess I just need to do like the rest of the liberal freeloaders and quit my job then start taking any and all of the goverment handouts I can get. Screw and real ambition to better myself or maybe enjoy a small vacation. Let the piles of Dung on capital hill go on their lavish vacations. Shoot, the Obama's have enjoyed more vacations and time off in his firs 4 years than I have in the past 20! And, just how much taxpayer money did the spend on each of those trips? Probably enough to help lower the deficit by close to half a trillion. They should pass a law that the citizens of this nation approve any vacations the president takes and the total cost. I wonder just how much we could save and how much more actual work we could get out of the worlds biggest freeloader and his family?
Rick,
I do not disagree with you but I will add that a robust and growing economy would help immensely.
It is the witch hunt mentality that has taken over the Repubs. Did they eat bread with fungus, I wonder. They are absolutely flippin out. We have no choice but to ride the storm with them. Democrats and reasonable people need to stand firm, and VOTE at every chance. As the witch hunters went, so will go these people who have lost control of their brains.
Jesse James 61-
Umm.. over 50 senators is a majority. That means the Democrats had control plain and simple. As I stated before- God help us all should either of the parties, in their current incarnation, get control with an unhindered super majority.
Amazed and Irritated, I agree with you 100%! Obamacare is an abomination and a joke! As a retired and disabled vet, I depend on Tri-Care as my sole source of insurance and that is my right from 20 years in the honorable service of my country. I remember when the previous Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen told President Obama and his minions that Tri- Care was sacrosanct and they could not touch it, they darn near foamed at the mouth in anger and frustration! Now that Mullen is gone and Obama has another four years, I agree that there will be renewed efforts on the Obamaites to take away Tri-Care and other benefits that military retirees were promised for life. So much for the thanks of a grateful government for our service! And leftist libs pushing Obamacare wonder why I detest them so!
OK nawtark, you prefer to debate based on Conservative talking points rather than facts. Thanks for making clear that credibility is not your goal.
Their true nature shines as grumpy obstructionist politicians (GOP). They are playing with patience of the American People. The response will be FURY and more.
I feel the same way about the freebie crowd Democrats.
Grumpy old obstructionists like Joe Biden you mean.
What "freebie crowd" Democrats? There are none, except in Right Wing delusion land.
The Democratic position has always been that spending cuts are necessary. Their starting position was 3:1 spending cuts to revenue gain. THREE TIMES more spending cuts than revenue increases, for those on the Right Wing who think counting and addition are witchcraft.
How is Biden an obstructionist? And where is the "freebie" thing?
Typical right wing intellectualism!
It's hard to argue and debate with those who just repeat untruths and nonsense.
The Freebie Crowd - isn't that the South - the same South that votes GOP, the same South that thinks college is only about fielding football teams...that Freebie Crowd?
Conservative posters make it too easy. Set em up again - I'm bowling a 300 game.
xyz -
I think a better example of obstructionism is Harry Reid, who pocket-vetoes every piece of republican-sponsored legislation there is - including mandatory budgets that are required by law.
Yeah...also the same South that wants to secede from the Union! They can go as far as I'm concerned.
Yea DG-W
AMERICA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!
SO TO ALL YOU GOP RETARDS GET OUT!!!!
I can't wait when the liar is exposed to America....When businesses are taxed to death and your beloved Obama care kicks in. Entitlements will be cut to almost nothing, higher taxes,VERY high unemployment,HUGE Debt and it will sky ROcket,we will be down graded again.....Our country will be a sitting duck when the military is cut to shreds....THANKS DEMS your awesome !!!! GO ahead bash me all you can,FOR WHAT telling the truth,be scared be very scared our lives are going to get much harder really quick. PS when was the last time ANYONE of you ever saw a POOR GUY CREATE A JOB....so now that you forced obama care and so many regulations and higher taxes....now the entire business world will be laying off more and more workers.......so disagree we will all see in about a year how HORRIBLE your choice was.
Paranoia is starting to hit the reactionaries hard. It is interesting to watch them melt down.
As far as the myth about John McCain goes that’s all it is; a myth. In recent years this man has squandered any good will most people had for him. As I look at the picture of McCain and Graham all I see are two bitter old Republicans trying to stay relevant as the world passes them by. 2014 will be the end of the Republican Party for at least a generation..... and if we're really lucky maybe forever.
Yesterday morning on my way to work when I saw a guy pumping gas into a dilapidated old car.
EVERY TIME someone spends money they're creating jobs. Jobs aren't created by the wealthy elites through their benevolence toward the rest of us. Jobs are created by DEMAND. Trickle down economics kills demand by slowly strangling the middle class.
Republicans lost. Get over it.
If the GOP is playing with the patience of the American people, then the Democrats are playing off the stupidity of the American people. This is class warfare at its finest, and does nothing to solve our nations fiscal problems. There are plenty of actual ideas for solving this nations revenue problems, but simply letting the Bush tax cuts expire on the top earners isn't one of them. Since Washington is all about appearances and rarely about substance, they can count on the stupidity of the American people as a shield to solving anything. Let us not forget, no matter what they do in Washington, every member and former member of Congress is set for life. That was their first order of business when they went to Washington. So answer this one question, what matters more in Washington appearances or solutions?
as long as there is Faux News to spew it's rhetoric and lies to the mindless masses, we will have nothing but gridlock. That is, unless America wises up and realizes the party who calls themselves "right" is nothing more than irrelephant, and runs on vapors of hatred for anything beneficial to society in general.
Demand creates jobs. Put money into the hands of people who spend it and you create demand.
Put money into the hands of a wealthy person and they put it in their pocket.
Rick, please explain how additional revenue isn't part of the answer.
You can follow up by telling us how disregarding the opinion of 60% of voters best expresses our democratic principles. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/83429.html
ahhh.. doing what it does best.. so they got no where winning elections through obstruction now it's back to the tried and true method of endless investigations. Clinton endured 8 years of that BS with whitewater, and every other "gate" the whacknuts could come up with. Hired a full time hound dog in Kenny Starr and finally got their man lying about a blowjob.
Now let the investigations begin!!!! just like the good old days
Benghazi needs to be investigated.
Not by this group of Republican congresscritters. They have zero credibility whatsoever on the topic. It should be investigated by an independent body.
Perhaps an independent body appointed by Obama?
Investigated, but think what you're saying. There was an attack and the right is all upset that somebody got it wrong in that it was not a riot but a terrorist act. Just words! Calling it a terrorist act would not have stopped it, diminished it nor made a bit of difference. Just words! But of course this is more important than actually doing something for the country. Once again the right is wrong and the left is right!
ok, seriously....what would you rather have..investigation into Benghazi, or Congress to work on economic issues???? A Bush admin official even said this was not Obama, nor anyone else's fault..its a tragedy. If the GOP wants to continue this blame game they played the last 2 years, they will soon find themselves out of a job! People want jobs, not conspiracy theories.
Ferro -
What needs to be investigated is who gave the order to stand down to the military, who actually refused to increase security in Libya, and why Obama felt he had to lie and create a scapegoat of a film that actually had nothing to do with the attack.
Those are valid questions, especially with the timeline that has been established.
You do realize, don't you, that live video from drones in the area was being watched in the White House situation room as the attack was taking place?
Exactly, Tammy. If there is nothing to hide, move on., disclose. We do not live in a perfect world where all terrorism acts can be stopped... That includes Benghazi, 9/11 where some blame Bush, the first attack on the Trade Center under Clinton. We live in extraordinary times. I do not believe that Presidents do not try to deters terrorism.. The left needs to stop the rhetoric about Bush and the right about Libya.
Real American
I think the difference here is that there is a question here that we could have saved these men but didn't because of---what? Negligence? We don't know and that's what needs to be investigated.
The fact that the administration was trying to pass it off as a protest against that stupid movie instead of openly acknowledging a terrorist attack (which did not happen in the bush-era incidents, as far as I know) leads many to wonder where his sympathies were in that case....
Egypt was all to hell over that movie. That riot began and continued about a day before, and several days longer than the Libyan incident. Logically, with little and very contradictory information it was probable the Libyan incident might have been caused, to some extent by the reaction happening in Egypt. That is precisely what Susan Rice told the am shows, of which She is now being so criticized. She also said the information was very fluid and continually changing, and that the Benghazi attack could have been an act of terrorism, brought about by opportunity, or even a planned attack. These are the gist of all unperverted known facts to date. Established time lines furnished by Embassy and Consulate personnel, and verified by US intelligence agencies state the outcome of the tragedy could not have prevented absent prior knowledge of the impending attack. Everything else to date presented by speculative republicans and their lacky damn fools was nothing more than an attempt to exploit the tragic deaths of 4 Americans for political gain in an up coming Presidential election. It is being hung onto now as a way to deflect responsibility of required governance, by self serving, and gwaddamn sorry republicans who wish to break the will of those they purport to serve. Republicans never miss a trick when it comes to being the lowest of low life sons-a-bitches.
Yes Fig, unfortunately its the same ol crap... like a broken record. As for the record Tammy, there is still an FBI investigation going on in the Petraeus case and an investigation is still ongoing on Benghazi so all answers are not in. As for the rumor about drones and watching TV of it all in the Whitehouse... that claim has been found to be NOT true...
"There are no pictures of the president watching a live feed from the drone that was above Benghazi the night Ambassador Stevens was killed. There are no pictures of the president monitoring the hours-long assault on the American diplomatic compounds there or the resulting firefight between the Islamists militia and U.S. security guards, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, both of whom were killed early in the morning of September 12.
What we do have are reports that U.S. commandos, gunships, and other specialized forces were moved into position to come to the Americans’ assistance. Now, putting aside the fact that such deployments do not normally occur without the highest level of consultation within an administration, what we don’t know is who made the ultimate decision not to deploy those forces into Benghazi. Did the president? If he did, what reasons can he give to justify the decision to keep from sending those forces in? It might even have been the right decision but we will not know that until we have a clearer picture of when he was informed, what he was told, how he stayed informed, and when and why he gave the order to stand down."
http://www.unitedliberty.org/articles/11709-did-president-obama-watch-the-benghazi-attack-in-real-time
Also...
That said, both Rivera and CBS seem to corroborate the notion that drones didn’t arrive until hours after the militant attack began. Another report from the outlet published on Thursday provided additional details on the drone operations over Benghazi on September 11:
While some, like Rivera, view the continued focus on drones and other related issues as merely political, others — particularly Republican lawmakers — believe it is essential that all of the details surrounding the attack are explored.
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/preposterous-geraldo-lashes-out-at-libya-critics-claims-govt-wasnt-monitoring-benghazi-attack-in-real-time/
After hearing the same old crap from the same over the hill Republican politicians I started counting the days until the 2014 election........... After that election the Republican Party and all it's ignorant right wing cheerleaders will become irrelevant footnotes in history.
You're REALLY using The Blaze as a source? Well, there went your credibility. Stop using Glenn Beck as a source and maybe you can learn to speak factually.
REPUKELICANS cut the budget to the Embassy's worldwide, that's who refused to increase security, in fact they decreased the security by cutting the buget!
Less government budge, less security. Get it? GOP you out there? Anyone? Hello!
Spend money on investigating a sordid love affair? Nah, that's not worth much for me. Let those family values people have their illicit love.
Lisa,
There was a protest over the movie, the terrorist group saw it as a means of gaining access to the building. They attacked while the protest was going on. They used it as a diversion. 2 seperate incidents occurring at the same time.
The terrorist group used the protest as a diversion to attack.
Tammy... there really is more to life than what you see on Fox News tv. You oughta step outta your bubble and experience it sometime!
Politician are all talk but no action.
Someone needs to chain the doors shut and not let them out until they have reached a deal.
...well..then they are not consensual adults...GOP will claim foul play...? If Richard MourDork is there...he would see god's blessing; if Todd Akin is there...he would see GOP shuting down itself?
nah Pigotry... if Todd Akin could be there, he would seize the opportunity for a legitimate raping.
Somebody should give Todd Akin a "legitimate" beating.
bigdogg... I believe Claire McKaskill and the women in Missouri did.
PRober,
Good point!
PRober shoots...and scores!!
benghazi this benghazi that. After the second debate Romney avoided it like the plague. McCain criticizing anyone on foreign affairs is a joke when the only song he loves to sing is bomb bomb bomb Tehrain.
The hypocrisy is as we learned Bush pre 9/11 received briefings that averaged twice a week stating Al Quada determined to attack within the US but after 9/11 it is incumbent upon us as a country to unite. But Benghazi is to become a political isue.
Thought the silly season ended last week with the election
demtothebone,
No kidding! Even Condi Rice, their foreign policy campaigner, told them to let it be dealt with by the proper channels!
lol yea, they like to conveniently forget about Bush's epic failure on 9-11...PLENTY of warning, yet took no action. Where were these neo cons then? oh thats right, standing up for Bush! HA, the right has no shame and their hypocrisy has no boundries
I'm never going to forget what they did. After 4000 dead they cook up an excuse to invade Iraq. They never improved our national security just gave us that stupid color code chart. No wonder Iran was able to hack into our computers.
Once again NBC shows it's incredible left wing thinking with another note on why the republicans in congress are wrong for disagreeing with the president. Would it be so wrong if you just reported the news without comment!!!!!
What was wrong with the news item? He should say what to make it better?
What was inaccurate?
lol im sorry, would you rather they just make stuff up like faux news??????
Paint it how you want, but this is the same old partisan garbage.
If you disagree with me you are being partisan, but if you agree with me then we are working together.
american -
Actually, there was a poll done - guess what? NBC is substantially more biased in their reporting than Fox is.
It came out about a week before the election.
Tammy, you continue to post your "facts" and never post a link to your "facts." Care to do so now?
Tammy, how can any outlet be more biased than FOX?
They stated that taxing the rich more wouldn't help, but in the very next breath, they showed a bunch of crap on the screen on how they could nickel and dime the middle class out of a million here and a million there. Then they doubled down on their bias by condemning the poor for having refrigerators and microwaves.
http://www.pensitoreview.com/2011/08/22/fox-begrudges-the-poor-refrigerators/
Also, NBC didn't defend itself by stating they didn't have to tell the truth.
So please give a link to this alleged poll. Put up or shut up please.
Tammy-311614 (#8.4):
Ummmmmmmm...............NBC more biased in their reporting than FOX is? There is definitely something wrong with you from the neck up.................
Tammy, the fact is that Faux lied to the GOP. And they lied because that got them more money. The GOP consultants lied to the GOP. They lied because it got them more money. You should understand lying for money. That's what GOP does. And, ironically, the ones they lie to the most are their own family. That's family values the lying GOP way.
Lying for financial gain constitutes fraud.
"Mandate" my ass. What I saw was clear evidence of a deeply divided country. That type of split should indicate something other than a mandate. It should indicate that neither party represents more than half the country. The message delivered was stop 'effing around and get something done.
Here's a radical idea... Stop blindly voting the party line. Vote the way your constituents want you to vote. If you can't do that, try voting your coscience (and Americans should stop labeling these people as party "traitors.") If they keep blindly voting like lemmings America is going over the cliff.
I agree bjc, but in my district my congressman and state senators ran unopposed and the Senate race offered an incumbent who I did not want back and an alternative I did not want in. In the presidential election, it was a choice between two men who really neither appropriately addressed my interests. So, is the electorate broken if we have limited choices or is the process not offering viable solutions? My "voice" was not heard even though I voted. I guess our county's sheriff was a good vote at least... lol.
bjc - I'm with you. Party affiliation should be only a matter of identity convenience, strictly for the political race for office. Once the oath of office is taken the politician represents everyone in their district or in the case of the president everyone in the nation. They should be, therefore, working in the interests of what is pragmatic and best for the majority in the district or nation NOT JUST THE LARGEST POLITICAL DONORS with the thought in mind that they shouldn't be screwing the minority for the benefit of the majority. The only mandate for this election was to do something other than stand around posing for holy pictures.
Nawtark - Sometimes a situation such as yours requires self reflection. Are your interests so far out of the mainstream they can't be adequately represented? If not, the answer for you is to throw your hat into the ring next time. Nobody represents 100% of your interests better than you.
Shifting Gears!!-
Lol... thanks for the suggestion but no thanks. I truly don't feel my interests are that far from the mainstream and that is why I am unhappy with the political options offered. Entering politics is neither a viable or desirable thing for me right now. Even if I wanted to, that would get us into the preclusive nature of politics in America today which is a whole other bag of worms which you slightly alluded to in your response to bjc. I appreciate the response, though, and do think your response to bjc is dead on.
Kelly Ayotte looks too young to be up there with those two old windbags. What is she thinking?
VP, 2016
ayotte is a crook, and a fascist. how she went from prosecutor that let a criminal go, who then murdered his neighbor shortly there after, is beyond me. Worst senator in history, and nothing more than a mouth piece.
american -
Yet you approve of Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Rangle, Jackson (junior), and the like, don't you?
Yeah, Jesse Jackson...still voted for although no one has seen him. Being treated or bipolar disease which is probably a over for the federal inquiry. Yet it goes on. He is either a crook or mentally ill. Why should he be allowed to vote on the future of the US?
Jesse Jackson is the poster boy for sticking to party lines. When did Americans lose site of whats important. We, unfortunatly have become a nation of SPORTS! and politics is no different. You pick your team and stick with them no matter what. Talk about a nosedive. I can name at least 1 dozen senators from each party that are absolute scumbags. mostly they are easy to spot. Far right and far left, all equally polar opposite crazy.
Senator McCain, the election is over already.......... You lost..... A long time ago.... Check the newspapers.
He's just trying to stay relevant. Poor soul.
John you must have an EBT card, section 8 housing and free medical, so typical.
you know milo, when you make dumb assumptions like that..it only shows how divided we really are. I have never taken a hand out in my life, met McCain when i was in 4th grade and loved him..then he ran for President and abandoned everything he stood for. So, being that hes my senator, i think im safe to say SHUT THE FREAK UP JOHN! you arent helping. and you, milo, you are the epitome of the attitude of the GOP, and its the cancer thats killing our country!
american110%
Nope I'm a Democrat, I despize the freebie crowd and those that condone it.
Milo-2 banned, didn't rehab.
Don't troll, folks. The crystal-ball stuff makes for a very bad comment.
Sally or Tyler, with all due respect, I find it interesting that you will ban or collapse peoples posts like Milo-2, but ignore an obvious COH violation such as # 1.25 above. How about some equity here?
Correction, I meant post #1.35. My apologies.
I read an opinion piece in the Seattle paper today, penned by a high ranking union-crank; He says we must spend and keep all the "defense" jobs created. Fine idea, just continue to charge that increasing deficit on the credit card that my great-grandchildren must pay off! What? Me worry? Until taxes are increased, no one really notices how we are becoming like Greece and Spain, bankrupt with less than a single "A" rating!
I guess they're only now starting to realize all those cuts to defense spending are going to cost a lot of union jobs.
SO TRUE ROB....well they will know VERY SOON all the taxes and regulations and the beloved Obama care will tank America... when unemployment is 15% in a year and entitlements are gone or cut drastically, unemployment benefits are no longer extended and welfare and food stamps are cut.....their president will be a true HERO !!! Riots, people going hungry and not to mention how unsafe this country will be when they cut the Military to shreds...
Funny that the taxes for Obamacare are so devastating but no one blinked when republicans passed their drug plan which will cost almost as much per year as Obamacare. I guess it's more responsible to just put these mega programs on the Americard rather than pay for them. Bsuh cut taxes 400 billion a year, started a hundred billion a year drug plan and 2 wars and never funded anything. The right is shocked at having a responsible president that actually funds what he implements. Despite Cheneys statement that deficits don't matter democrats know better that's why we fund programs. Just because republicans didn't fund programs under Bush or Romney claiming he could lower taxes 20% and raise spending on military 200 billion all while lowering the debt the majority didn't drink the kool aid.
larry, I see you are back at it and you didn't take your medicine. It doesn't take much after reading your spew, that you are a hard core democrat. That's ok, we all have our political beliefs. I'v tracked your times when you spew, and you have to be either retired, unemployed on warefare, unemployment or something to that affect. You need to get a job. finally, obama might be a lot of things, but being responsible is not one of them.
But Graham also sounded combative in challenging Rice and Obama: “Somebody has got to start paying a price” for what occurred in Benghazi and in the administration’s explanation that followed it.
I wish these pecker heads would stop their screeching and leave it to the Senate investigation.
I am reminded of the fat pontificating Roman Senators, just prior to the Ides of March.
I believe they are trying to keep this in the public eye so it doesn't get buried in the endless, senseless coverage of the Jill Kelly non-story. What a smokescreen! The Benghazi investigation warrants far more coverage than the pages and pages of this silly Broadwell/Kelley "scandal"---and if this was a republican president, you know it WOULD be getting the coverage.
Are there no principled people in the government or media anymore?
you said it exactly Lisa....Well they will find out soon that their president is not the president they think he is....looking forward to it....he will be exposed him and his gooooonies
I thought you guys already did a great job exposing him as a Kenyan Indonesian Communist Fascist Socialist Nazi Terrorist Baby Killer Muslim Atheist Radical Christian with those excellent and informative emails that you've been sending around since 2008... So convincing...
gg, amen to that one! To borrow an old Pink Floyd line "the loonies are on the path". Oh and no matter how irrelephant they may appear, they are being led by a fox this time.
lj 51, I can think of at least four families that don't want them to stop until the truth comes out, what ever it is.
The GOP/Tea Beggers in thier "House Of Hoodlum's" have no intention of ever 'compromising' with the President. "Bonehead Boehner" madie it clear already that there will be no 'compromise' at all. So far "Bonehead Boehner" has not retracked this statement. In the US Senate. "Mickey Mouse Mitch McConnell" have not retracked his order to his 'zombies.' He stated that the main goal of their party is to destroy an American President. Their is still a bigger GOP Elephant in the Tea Begger "House Of Hoodlum's." Little "Richie Rich" Ryan is still spewing his "Crazy Conservative Crap," and he lead the "Caucus Conspiracy" back in 2009. To better understand America. Of what the GOP/Tea Beggers are still doing. Progress Think Tanks strongly suggest that every citizen read the book by Robert Draper entitled. "We Do Not Know What Good We Do." It is a must read America!! The Tea Beggers have not retracked their "Goofy Grover Tax Pledge." The GOP "Fourteen Felon's" of the Janruary 20, 2009 "Caucus Conspiracy." Are still in the US Senate and still in the US House Of Representatives. America needs to call or write their representatives to let them know how you feel. The GOP/RNC Poltical Tactics of "Distract and Attack" must be put to an end. The Tea Beggers at the "Caucus Conspiracy" still have their "Blood Oath" still in effect America. The whole "Party Of NO' should have voted out America!
lol! Love all of your nicknames. McConnell= Yertle the Turtle:))
Please challenge him, Ashley Judd.
During past elections I would usually say, "Oh well we lost but we need to go on." Our country will survive & there will be another day." I don't feel that way after this election! I honestly believe that America will never be the same again because of Obama's victory & his socialist agenda! The moral & spiritual decline of our country was clearly indicated by the millions who voted for Obama while knowing his views on 'same sex marriage', & abortion. I don't understand how someone can claim to be a Christian & yet go against God's word in the voting process! Yet, many reading my comments will say that my viewpoint is archaic & bigoted. In response I say the word of God is supreme & forever & is not subject to change at man's discretion!
You know its really scary reading a lot of these posts & realizing to what extent our once great country has fallen! Yet you inlightened Obama supporters will say my post is frightening! Progressive Forward 11, I wonder how many people reading your post are aware that the Progressive Party is actually the Communist Party? For those of you who disagree & may be concerned, I say do your homework & read all you can about The Progressive Party & then compare what you have read to The Communist Party. Trace the history of the leaders of the Progressive party & you will find their deeply trenched communist history & agenda. But then again Progressive Forward 11 is probably very proud of this history & agenda & then again he may not even be aware of what a progressive actually is! Yes, I'm sure he's also very proud of the leader who is now leading our country who is also the true champion of perversion, immorality & deceit! The leader who has turned his back & unfortunately our country's back on God's word while writing his own man made laws supporting perverted life-style beliefs! And all of the hypnotized followers are chanting the name of 'The One' while following him Forward, Forward, Forward.....
@Guy Grace #14.2: Do not dispair. One day, maybe in your lifetime, BRAIN TRANSPLANTS!
Mac-
They're already worried about those U.N. brain chip implants Obama is going to force every one to have.
gg,
At least Obama has enough sense to implant the chips in the brain. The reichwing is still focussed on ass-implants because they think everyone, like them, has their heads up their asssss.
Yes, their heads are all in a deep, dark space...
should the republicans, led by bondhead boehner, be the only ones that should reach across the line and offer to soften their stance? Oh, the dems won and don't have to do that and no, in the four years this group of fools have been in charge, they haven't done it yet. Maybe if we are lucky, nither one will reach across and everyone but the, takers will pay for it. Who do we blame for that? Is it just one side? Like I said, only the losers will win.
Clinton did it for 8 years in the "Oval" office and many years before and after. "I did not have sex with that woman."
I really don't give a shix whether he did or didn't, I do care that he lied about it.
Clinton, like the current President; every news conference is a "lecture" on how he is right and his opponents are wrong. They are both good at "shaking their finger" at us.
So much for putting our nation together. What a sad four more years we have.
Remember, the vote was basically even. The 50% that don't pay taxes did indeed vote for BHO, but those of us that pay taxes aren't going away nor quitting. We lost this round, but not the fight.
Were you so concerned when Bush lied about something actually important? Or when Mitt lied over and over again in the campaign? The vote was 52-48 which is not as much as Bush had. Also, buy our rules, it was a landslide.
And keep repeating the nonsense about the "not paying taxes" Anybody with a brain would realize that's simply not true and how many rich dudes get out of taxes through loopholes and money laundering into off-shore accounts.
But keep repeating the right wing talking points...they're nothing but talk and no substance
obama is ruining this country and you people can't even see it
No he isn't. We can see, and think, that's the difference!
Ferro, about $6 trillion additional debt in less than 4 years compared to $5 trillion in 8 years? Guess what? I'd rather have Bush's profligate ways than Obama's. At least Bush was able to work with his own party, and even the opposing party when necessary.
Bill from Oregon
Typical TeaBagger, so full of yourself, so arrogant to think because you are a card carrying GOP, that only YOU pay taxes. Only you work for a living. Give your head a shake! Do you think, perhaps its that mentallity amongst the GOP that cost them so many votes? Do you truly believe the only people on government assistance programs are demacrats? Perhaps, since your party feels so strongly about that, the government should pull the plug on ALL assistance going to people registered as republicans...then I bet, they could balance the budget!
Oh yeah....in case you missed the news flash....Obama 332 - Romney 206
Chris,
The GOP didn't lose "so many votes". Come on, be real! Obama was elected by a landslide in '08, and he barely sqeaked through in 2012 by comparison. It is actually he who lost "so many votes"!!! Millions of people turned against him. As you are so wont to point out regarding the first Bush election, electoral votes do not give a true picture of the heart of the people---the actual numbers of the popular vote are separated only by a percentage point or two.
Tammy-311614 (15.4):
Bush was NOT willing to work with Democrats. Read up on recent history--and NOT a (biased) Republican opinion of it...
Same old jealous people yelling about clinton getting a BJ. Now tell me, is it because you weren't the one getting it or the one giving it.
@Rich-298746 #15.8: Considering the amount of stammering about it, I would say It's about 40% wishing to have given it, and 60% wishing to have received it.
Awesome .....so true....soon when everything goes to crap next year with all the spending, obama care, taxes, high unemployment,entitlements..OHHHHH not to mention the ridiculous Bengazi ordeal, lies more lies and more cover up...Disgraceful administration
Yeah Tawney... but nowhere as bad as the one we got rid of in 2008..
Lisa,
The GOP LOST! I'll say it again, the GOP LOST!
If winning to you, is not losing by as much as last time, I feel sorry for you.
bill, you are going to get shot down. Btwn the people that obama bought their vote, and the young that go to school and get a degree in finger painting, Obama can pretty well say oh on anything he has done. If a white man, went to a kkk church, had lunches with terrorist and lied on every point brought up, they would be booed out of office. But if you are a black african, you can do this on a daily basis and is never questioned about it. God help america
Scott Brown is no more a centrist than Collins. Check their voting records.
It had better stay the Party of NO or obammy will have the rest of the country looking like california. BROKE
what a load of bull. the most devisive party is the democrats just look at poelosi and reid the posters boy and girl of division and hatred all the while conning millions of tax payers money to there other business's and in pelosis case her husbands factories. one just has to look at there tax returns oops both have refused to show them. the only people getting hurt is the working tax payer who fund the 47% as romeny stated for free hand outs from the rest of us. welcome to the fall of america we are leaving ur kids a bleak future whuile laughing it up. by the end of four years america will in debt way of 20 trillion dollars. of course its not our fault.
The problem with that number is it is just not authentic. Now you want to compare the rate of people working the system against the rate of valid recipients? We can have that discussion.
Politicians start out well off and their goal, is to sustain and grow that wealth. All things being equal I doubt either party could really drum up a representative that was really altruistic.
So, it's all about policy, numbers, and power.
Ryans numbers were just atrocious and Romney's were, incognito?
Now we're headed for a stalemate, and believe you me, the people are NOT going to be amused. I recommend Prudence from both Parties.
Frankly I'm tired of all of the drama and the BS with Generals farking off, or being targeted. I don't want to hear it. I don't care. FBI CIA, two uppity chicks. Who farking cares?
Let's get on with the business of crunching the numbers for real. STFU about all the rest.
I have to hand it to you Carl, you defend your ignorance with a vengeance. Well done....
No matter how many times it's explained to them, they stick with the BS. Is there any hope?
The GOP/Tea Party is still willing to see this economy go down the drain because they can't stand Obama, an African American. It STILL boils down to racism. The American people should stand up and say enough is enough, or are we willing to let these fools sell us down the drain. I guess they just can't and won't come to grips with the Nov. 6th results! America, wake up and don't let these particular GOPers ruin the country because of their own 'issues'.
Racism is when 100% of a Philadelphia precinct votes for a black multi-millionaire. If Obama is really concerned about his black constituents, he'd be creating jobs, not more handouts.
Amazing, not even 1 vote for the white multi-millionaire. Now that's racism.
A lot of people are Democrats. But I can tell you for sure that black people are Democrats, have been Democrats and always will be Democrats. They will vote for white Democrats, black Democrats, Hispanic Democrats and never ever vote for the hateful racist republicans who are one percenters for the one percent. Never have I seen so much bile because we did not allow a corporate vulture Romney who would not allow people to view his tax returns and has his money hidden in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Switzerland. In every state there are plenty of Democrats who are fighting against the republicans against the middle class and working people in America. We will have the Affordable Care Act and we will fight against the lies and hate spewing from the GOP.
Vila---I think you have proven the point that bigotry works both ways. Whenever you lump people in a group and label them negatively, you are guilty of bigotry. There are all kinds of bigotry, in case you didn't know--based not only in racism, but in class warfare ("all rich people are evil" or "all poor people are lazy") religion, nationality, political party--you name it. By closing your mind and saying "all Democrats are good and all republicans are greedy vulture racists", you have committed another form of ignorant bigotry.
How do I know? Because I vote mostly republican, am not rich, am a woman, and don't have a racist bone in my body. I also happen to believe that it's far more compassionate for government to help people in crisis situations, but then help them, through education, jobs, etc. to be able to take care of themselves. This is much more compassionate than it is to keep people enslaved to government dependancy (just so you can get people to vote for you and keep you in power) making just enough to survive but not enough to get out of the cycle of poverty and slums that many are entrapped in.
Vilavilavila
Speaking of "hate spewing", do you listen to yourself when you talk? Sad that you would put everyone in the same basket, therefore becoming a bigot and racist yourself. And there is (and has been) many black and hispanic people in the Republican party (including Dr Martin Luther King Jr). The Republican Party is also the one who fought to abolish slavery. And I guess you haven't heard of the National Black Republican Association.
Anna, sorry to inform you that Mr. Lincoln's party is long dead. A radical group calling themselves the "tea party" slithered in one night and constricted the necks of the GOP, cutting off the blood supply to their heads. But one by one, we are weeding them out and taking them down... it's gonna take awhile to clear them out completely I guess. Oh and about the National Black Republicans Ass... isn't that the place Allen West was extricated from?
Craig, didn't think I was racist but you made me realize that is what i am. I can't handle how the president lies, cheats and talks down to people. All that doesn't matter, I must dislike him because he is black. So there, i'm a racist.
PRober
I see how you intentionally and oh so cleverly cut the last part the word Association ... their existence bothers you doesn't it. You are probably one of those who still believes, and tells others, that the KKK are Republicans. And how interesting that you would call the Tea party a radical group while many black people are members of said Tea party.
By the way it is a Republican, Ronald Reagan, who made Dr Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday.
Here are a few facts, just for a bit of information about one of your favorite Democrats, supporter of President Obama, who is supposedly not racist:
Awareness is the key word here, as opposed to misinformation and media brainwashing.
All you obammy voters will wake up fast come tax time, even those below 250,000 will be paying 4% more. Hope you enjoy paying for those free phones with 250 minutes each. I know the man in China who made the phones is happy!!
Ya you can thank all of your outsourcing corporate tax whores for those 250 dollar phones.
On a budget ratio, how big you think the slice of budget pie is for those phones?
If you cannot afford to pay 4% more in taxes you are living waay beyond your means. I thought that was the grand lesson from 2008 that Republicans latched onto and are trying to bring around as a Government policy regarding spending? People that cry over having to pay just 4% more in taxes are pathetic. Now if it was 15 to 20 for middle class earners you might have a point. 4% is piss in the ocean.
If 'only' 4% more is so easy, then EVERYONE should do it. 4% more and I'm paying out 48% for the Feds alone. Add in the lovely state of California's tax hikes for ppl, at 250k and when it's all done, those of us that are barely above that magic line are reduced to 100k a year to live in one of the most expensive states in the country.
Sure,I could move to some rat trap and risk my children being shot over the color of their shirt, but yeah, kinda like my kids breathing. Like many others, I'm a small business owner who will work 70-80 hrs a week to avoid hiring anyone. Simply cannot justify the cost. I built a business to help my kids... The politics of this state are systematically destroying us all and sadly enough, the rest of the country to following. Can't wait until I can leave, FYI.... Work for 30 yrs busting your ass climbing the ladder in the private district and retirement is flipping SWEET!!!!
Eat me, you mother is a piece of crap who should have had an abortion.
isn't it funny and coincidental how lesigh rhymes with lie?
Really Brenda? Why??? Because I worked and fought to be successful?
PR, you accuse yet you don't even know me. Is that all you can fall back on, not believing that anyone is capable of being successful now?
lesigh, you don't sound too successful to me really... more like a whining loser. If you became successful during the many years of tax cuts, you should do the right thing and pay a little more during tough times. The rest of us are, and will.
prober, I seriously doult that you have ever worked a day in your life, much less paided taxes. I think you are a taker, on drugs and are the results of a bad abortion.
Thank you Unreal..... Obviously since I own my own home <paid for with cash> 2 cars, one all shiny and brand new, have 2 beautiful boys and own my own business I do find myself to be successful.
I've paid my 'share' and of course continue to pay taxes on my taxable income. The key for me now.... lower them as far as possible so they can't take more. The idea of paying for Suzie Slutbags birth control and/or abortion kinda irritates me. A LOT.
If we get ridge of the tea party in 2 years ,will get something done. The voting public will not forget who's dragging their feet. The Republicans best wake up.
We sent them back to work together, guess they don't get it. I don't want Pelosi and her UN-read bills passed I want them read and approved by both parties. I don't want Harry stick it in the closet because it's not a Dem bill Read if it's a good bill it need to be brought to the floor for debate. If a person is nominated by the President I want them not only qualified but truthful to the American people, if something goes wrong I don't want some mouth piece. Pass a balanced budget, not my budget that means listen, You too Mr. President. I don't want rich people getting tax breaks they don't need or deserve. This is not a my party wins your party losses, this is we all loss if these clowns don't do their job right.
bubba-1946427
your asking for a miracle.
The Republican Party is at it again. There are three major factions in the Republican Party, and it is a strange marriage. First there is the obscenely wealthy and obsessively greedy faction at the top. They just want to get richer on the backs of an enslaved populace, and contribute nothing to the country in the process. Mitt Romney is one of them. The second is the religiously paranoid fundamentalists who see the party as their means to achieve their goal of forcing their narrow minded views and lifestyle on the rest of the world. Finally there are the white racists who will never forgive the Democratic Party for passing the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act in the 1960's, and topping that off by electing a black man president 40 years later. This is the hateful angry mass of this party that is in a real foul mood now that the president, and a black man at that, has spanked their asses in an election that they were sure that they would win. It makes me smile.
Nicely said..........
Michael-3842950 -
Excellent post and very well stated.
Smilikng here as well . . .
The second faction is the anti-woman faction, I don't care what else they call it! Government small enough to fit in your vagi--.
The third faction is anti-black, anti-hispanic and probably anti every other minority group you can think of. Hopefully, those hateful folks are history very shortly.
WORD
I could not agree more.
lol, stupid generalizations, funny thing is, Im not for either yet I see the ignorant and blatant generalizations there.
Wake up people, you don't know nearly as much as you like to tell your self you do.
What you say is true, but as a friend who is a teacher said to me one day she supports President Obama because she requires that the President of the country be smarter than she is. President Obama is extremely intelligent, extremely confident and will be driven to get things done. President Obama and Democrats will run right over these ruthless republicans against the recovery of this country. Republicans are some hypocritical morons against what is right for America.
Vilav - what are you smoking? Could you explain how you arrived at "Obammy's smartness"? I have yet to see intelligence (no grades, no college papers). However, I have seen his Marxist speeches - not exactly intelligence.
I think you suffer from a permanent brain fart!
Oh! Forgot, the USSR, China, Cuba and others have tried the Marxist route - I guess I would like to live a regressing nation. China at least is moving toward capitalism and doing very well. BUT I'm sure your communist dictator in the white house has a better way of installing Marxism than anyone else. He is so smart (roll the eyeballs).
Michael--your own vicious bigotry is showing..
Excellent, Michael-3842950 (#23).

By party
The original House version:[16]
Cloture in the Senate:[17]
The Senate version:[16]
The Senate version, voted on by the House:[16]
Please stop rewriting history ... above are the actual votes for the law as you can see far more demos voted against the law than repubs
Prior to Johnson democrats were the conservative party while republicans were liberals. After Johnson forced through the civil rights act the parties reversed with conservatives embracing the republican party. Comparing the parties then with now is pointless.
To Michael-3842950,
Your assessment of the Republican Party is at best sophomoric,
At worst delusional.
Bob
By your logic, the republicans of today can say they have the heritage of Lincoln. Abe wouldn't even make it to the primaries in today's GOP
To Common Sense,
I am going to try to explain Your Obama Smartness problem in plain common sense talk.
I am a white female in my 60's who has a Ph.D. and attended two top tier universities. I did well in school in high school, graduating in the top 15 percent of my graduating class. Basketball, tennis, social life and lots of community work rounded out lots of my time. I performed well during my Bachelor's an Master's program at a Big Ten school, and stayed in because classes were great, the social life was fantastic, and my love for intramural sports. When I went on to get my Ph.D. and a top Calif. university, I buckled down, gave up most of my sports activities and cut down on my social life, and graduated with honors. I own my own company and am still working because it is my passion. Thursday is my day off work so I get the fun of reading these posts.
Obama's magna cum laude at graduation indicates that his overall grade point average was 3.8 to 3.89 on a 4.0 scale. An excellent result from a top notch school with tons of competition. Magna Cum Laude plus his position as Editor of the Law Review equals smart to anyone with a smidgen of common sense.
For the love of mercy, could those who love listening to fox news give the one up, please? It makes the fox party look like uninformed and regurgitive.
By your logic would Andrew Jackson make it to the primaries of the Democratic Party?
Jody,
There are many "smart" people in this world, indicated by how much they've learned and by their performance on tests, who lack the ability to apply what they've learned to real world situations.
For one so smart, I would have thought you would have known that.
Bassai
No, and he shouldn't. He was a murderer, a cheat and a racist who saw nothing wrong with ethnically cleansing the USA of native Americans.
Pigotry
A big step for the Democrats is to limit the freebies like EBT, Section 8 housing and free medical. The only exception would be for those that cannot work because they are disabled, we need to help those people. The rest should be forced to work or there freebies are cut off period. People are sick and tired of paying for the freebie crowd.
The Democratic base depends on the freebie crowd t keep them in office, hence keeping the freebie crowd in poverty. That's no different than slavery!
Just my humble opinion.
Believe me..more people want to work to support themselves...but often times, even the workplace has been transformed into a hostile work environment...with women and minorities been harassed routinely...
if America wants to improve human rights in Iraq and Afghanistan...and I think America should first improve its own human rights conditions...to eliminate discrimination against women, racial minorities, and other types of minorities who are often terrorized by hostility.
.
American hiring practices are discriminatory too... there are not enough jobs out there ... good jobs often don't go to members of various minorities ...
just talk about this recession - the poor did not cause it..but they suffer more from it...
.
so..it's not just the problem mentioned in your post...
Your opinion, but categorically wrong. This freebie nonsense is just that. A tactic the low-information person can attach him/herself to. Easy to understand....but wrong. There are more freebies given out in red states and red areas than blue areas. Look at the facts.
...more freebies to corporations...one bailout to AIG in 2008 is bigger than all the government help to the poor from 1990 to 2005.
Ok, Ferro, so you think you know it all?
Do you even understand what entitlements are as far as the 'social programs' are concerned? They are actually 'free' to the user as they do not pay for those 'benefits', thus they are a 'freebie'.
The problem is when the piggy bank is empty - which is the current situation when this government borrows 40 cents of every dollar spent. As long as the freebies that we cannot afford are going out, the piggy bank will remain empty and never hav3e a chance to refill.
Also, entitlement spending removes pride in oneself and what a person can do. It destroys self-esteem by lowering expectations. Many who are on the dole feel that they no longer have to try to make it work as someone else will take care of them, their kids, and their bad habits.
What entitlements are you referring to that are free?
You wanna talk freebies? How about all the ex-Confederate States that run on Federal Welfare. They send money in taxes to Wash,DC then DC sends quite a bit more back. It comes out of everyone else's pockets. The Conservatives talk a good game, but they can't balance a budget to save their lives.
I'm sure all those states would be happy if the leeches left and moved to New York.
Texas has a balanced budget every year as required by the Texas Constitution
The bond issues in Texas are borrowing. All states must have a ballanced budget, since they do not issue state money. The national debt is, of course, complex. If we stopped spending one dime more than we take in we would still be paying interest on the debt incurred over time including two unfunded wars.
Why Not have all that are able bodied and willing to accept the government assistance work for the greater good of the people of our nation like the CCC camps were during the depression era. (I’m not saying to send them to camps; I am saying to have them contribute to the community by working IN their community for the money and assistance they receive.) These camps instilled the ideals that we all share; if you contribute you will receive your fair share. Why do we just give money and things to people and they do not help the country? It was a Major democrat that once said in a very appropriate way “Ask NOT what your country can do for YOU! Ask what YOU can do for YOUR country!”
TRANSLATION: I'm relevant! Really! We lost the election, but don't turn off the cameras. I can't live without the cameras. I'm relevant! Really, you have to believe me. Here: I'll say something that will make you notice.
kipi,
You won the election but that won't stop you (obama) from trying to make this country a one party political system.
When it comes time to pay for your socialistic healthcare, do me a favor: shut the F up about how much it's going to cost. You asked for it. Are you dumb enough to believe that adding millions to this system without major NEW funding won't hit you directly in to pocket? I certainly hope you're not but it's going to COST. And when it does become apparent that obama sold you a load of sh!t - have the guts to admit IT'S OBAMAS' FAULT.
socialistic healthcare funny if you look at Romney healthcare in his state your looking at the same plan so why if its Romney plan its good but because Obama wants the same kind of plan for all why is that bad that's right its Obama
