President Barack Obama speaks during a press conference Nov.14, 2012 in the East Room of the White House.
Updated 2:44 p.m. ET - President Barack Obama claimed a broad mandate for his vision on taxes at his first news conference since being re-elected, demanding that his negotiations with Congress yield a specific plan that results in a higher tax burden for the wealthiest Americans.
Speaking Wednesday at the White House, the president said that his recently-concluded campaign against Republican nominee Mitt Romney sent a "very clear message" as to which tax plan Americans prefer. Citing his decisive victory last Tuesday, Obama vowed to stand firm on asking the wealthy to shoulder a greater share of the tax burden.
"There is a package to be shaped, and I'm confident that parties -- folks of goodwill in both parties can make that happen," Obama said. "But what I'm not going to do is to extend Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent that we can't afford and, according to economists, will have the least positive impact on our economy."

Republicans on Capitol Hill have said since the election that they are open to increased revenue by way of tax reform linked with entitlement reform. But Obama suggested that the GOP's version of tax reform -- cementing or lowering existing rates, combined with the elimination of certain loopholes -- would not be sufficient.
"It's very difficult to see how you make up that trillion dollars -- if we're serious about deficit reduction -- just by closing loopholes and deductions," the president said. "The math tends not to work."
He later added, in a snipe at Republican thinking on taxes: "What I will not do is to have a process that is vague, that says we're gonna sorta, kinda raise revenue through dynamic scoring or closing loopholes that have not been identified."
The expiring 2001 Bush tax cuts, which Obama extended for two years in 2010, are half of the looming "fiscal cliff," the combination of the end of those tax cuts with a series of automatic spending cuts set to begin in 2013, which economists warn could imperil the recovery. The simultaneous debates on taxes and spending are, generally speaking, a byproduct of congressional gridlock on those issues for the better part of the last two years.
In his first press conference since his re-election, President Barack Obama stresses the need for immediate bi-partisan action to save the economy from going over a "fiscal cliff."
The press conference, Obama's first formal meeting with the Washington press corps since the summer, marked his most direct assertion of a second term agenda since winning re-election. He spoke of the need to address taxes and spending, as well as immigration, and he forcefully defended his ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, from Capitol Hill Republicans who argue Rice erred in responding to the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.
Rice is thought to be a leading contender to succeed Hillary Clinton as leader of the State Department, though Obama said he had made no determination as to a nominee for that role. But he forcefully rebuffed a small chorus of Senate Republicans, lead by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who have vowed to block Rice from that job should he win the nomination.
"If Senator McCain and Senator Graham, and others want to go after somebody? They should go after me," a blunt Obama said. "When they go after the U.N. ambassador, apparently because they think she's an easy target, then they've got a problem with me."
But the fiscal cliff is most likely to consume much of the political oxygen in Washington in the coming weeks and months, particularly as the specter of tax hikes loom on Jan. 1. He renewed his demand that Congress send him a bill extending existing tax rates for all but the top income bracket, something which Republicans have refused to do for the better part of this year for fear of losing a bargaining position.
The president claimed a broader mandate on other domestic issues, too. He said that his staff had already begun conversations with lawmakers in pursuit of comprehensive immigration reform, a priority that had eluded his administration -- to the consternation of Latino voters -- during his first term.
"My expectation is that we get a bill introduced and we begin the process in Congress very soon after my inauguration," Obama said.
In his first press conference since his re-election, President Obama says his one mandate is to help middle class families through these tough economic times.
At the same time, the president suggested some priorities from his first term -- such as legislation to address the impact of climate change -- would take a backseat to other issues at the outset of his second term.
"I don't know what either Democrats or Republicans are prepared to do at this point," he said, noting that regional differences between lawmakers have just as often scuttled a wide-ranging deal on climate legislation as partisan differences. He furthermore said that economic and jobs growth were his foremost priority, and that he wouldn't support a climate deal that inhibited either.
Pres. Obama will try to use his charm and persuade Republicans to work with him to produce...the greatest good for the greates number.
...
..But I wonder if the Republicans have learned anything from this election...or they still decide to stick with their dogMa and can't persuaded ... If they decide to stick to their conservative dogma, then let me quote what Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas once said...you can't train a pig..it wastes your time and aggravates the pig...
...of course, pig here refers to conservatives that Obama tries to persuade
Excuse me Miss Piggy but who says we conservatives have to change to fit your ideologies? Screw you and your commie president. I will never accept being FORCED to support lazy, no good SOBs who popped babies very 9 months or ILLEGAL aliens who lie and sneak to into MY country to get on welfare, to get free medical treatment, and free schooling, up to and including LAW SCHOOL. Start a charity if you want to take care of these bums, leave my wallet alone.
this one's going to be a fight. Unfortunately the Republicans in the House and Senate have taken the Nordquist pledge, so don't expect any of them to meet halfway without being dragged over kicking and screaming.
Patricia...You have proven that you are worthless... You just went on ignore you worthless b!tch..
Obama seems to be forgetting the 48% of Americans that did not vote for him.
Patricia,
You don't have to accept it, but it IS going to happen. I take it that you are intelligent enough to know what the demographics are in this. Unless the republican party drops the hate, the social warfare, and the religious extremists, you are screwed, and that's a fact. Either move toward the center or you will cease to be relevant. Asking the rich to pay a little more is not going to kill this country. Entitlements will have to be reformed as will the tax code. Both sides are going to have to compromise, and compromise is not a dirty word. Unless you and your party change course, you are going to get shellacked in the mid terms.
If our President was actually talking about millionaires and billionaires he might get some cooperation. But the lying man is talking about everyone making over $200,000. BIG DIFFERENCE. And he really should listen to the economists that he cites, it will have the "least positive impact on our economy". What doesn't he understand about LEAST IMPACT??? It ain't going to help, he must stop spending.

Your stuff about "welfare queens" wasn't true when Reagan said it, and it's still not true - just crap that Fox Noise peddles because it helps them make more $$ & boost ratings (for reasons I can't begin to understand, along with most rational people).
If you would do some research on communism - start with Wiki, (you might be able to understand something that basic) you would realize their is nothing about President Obama's policies that are communistic . . . maybe you have been listening to (defeated) RWNJ Allen West. And McCarthyism went out of fashion even before Reagan did.
The biggest problem this country has is not "lazy people who don't work" . . . it's The Haters who don't know what they're talking about, and speak from that ignorance.
Please don't Hate what you don't even understand.
Our congress is never going to agree on anything...they are to busy hating one another and pushing party before the American people.
Both sides are GUILTY of OVER SPENDING.
Where is my Obummer phone, Obummer pay my mortgage and gas bill, Obummer i have my hand out like all the other Idiots that voted for ya
Feeling sour grapes- You may not have voted for him- but there has to be a compromise on both sides of the isle--
Patricia there is China they have OPEN ARMS for Americans AK 47 ya know
They would love to have U work for them for nothing and NO health care and no good water to drink and nasty AIR to breath the DOORS wide OPEN now OPEN wide your EYES please and LEAF like a tree
The question is not what is done with tax money or who benefits from it. It's PAYING YOUR FAIR SHARE into the pot from which it comes. If you don't like it, leave and take your sense of entitlement to another country...where your tax shelters are.
"...a higher tax burden for the wealthiest Americans."
Patricia...I'm sure you were all for that war that those lazy, shiftless poor people sent their children to die in. How about you take a little responsibility and pay for that? Or, since greedy, selfish people like you refuse to pay for the war then I guess those of us who actually work and struggle to survive will end up paying for it since people like you hate this country and those in it. Your bafflingly ignorant prejudices against people you know nothing about just shows that people like you are the problem and the sooner you either move or die this country will still be filled with downright EVIL people like you who will always be part of the problem rather than part of the solution. So here's to you...hopefully your kind will die off soon. Maybe once you do we'll be left with a population that actually cares about their fellow Americans instead of a populace that constantly casts aspersions while sounding like complete and total douchebags while doing so.
@Patricia Paulson-A Mom
And you wonder why conservative are portrayed as being so damn mean and negative? Read your post.
@CoRavensFan
I doubt the majority of the 48% who didn't vote for him are going to suffer much if the tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% is let to lapse.
Mandate ?? With a 50.5% to 47.9% margin for victory with the popular vote seems more like 5 people for and 4.7 people against. Darned near a draw. Doesn't strike me the President is in a position to compel compromise. Looks more like those in the center of both parties need to move together and cut out both the hard left progressives and hard right tea partiers.
Do the real math - it's 50.5% to 47.9% - means compromise is essential from both parties!
Patricia ...
Wow! It is that type of conservative thinking that got us where we are today and will continue to keep this country stagnant.
What are we cutting from spending? Great we raise taxes, but how are we getting our debt down? How are we fixing our economy? 4 years and 7 trillion more debt, with another 4 years and not paying down debt how will that help?
I'd suggest putting a horse's head in McConnell’s bed, but it's already occupied by a horse's ass.
I still think taxes need to be raised across the board. That little pittance that comes from the rich folks ain't gonna do nothin'.
Patricia Paulson-A Mom has a very limited vocabulary! Her mommeyness is on full display!
We should raise it but you have to fix the whole problem, not just raising taxes but the over spending too.
Yup! He's got it! People earning $5,000 or more a week need to pay more than 14% in taxes. Cuts are needed but increased revenue is a must. Tax loopholes would amount to only .5% of the deficit cuts.!
PatriciaP AMom has regurgitated every steriotyping welfare queen dog whistle blown by the right since Reagan gave them the whistles to blow. Nothing like teaching those A-Mom children how to be selfish and hate at the same time. Good job, PatriciaP, be proud of yourself for proving to thousands of silent FR readers that you are what you post.
Lurch...go ahead and find those programs and then tell me which president began those programs, only to later have the mentally defective buy into the false rumors that it was our current president. Of course, when most of you are completely, utterly, and hopelessly incapable of understanding anything but what you're spoonfed, you get a society of people like you who just yells into the wind.
Not only did this election allow you to show what whiney ass bastards you all are it also, somehow, made you dumber. I wouldn't have thought it possible.
And for the record, I'm with Malcontented. We ALL need to be paying more taxes. As a middle class earner on the lowest side of that scale, I'm glad to pay my taxes...I love my country and at least some of the people in it. I'm glad to pay for roads, schools, etc. What I'm tired of is the wealthy using my tax money to become wealthier and, although they're a much smaller percentage than what the morons on the right would have you think, those who abuse the system and live as well as I do without having to work.
Wyo2,
Remember that was going to be decided by Congress! Da, where the heck have you been? Watching too much FOX?
Cut and raise!
Over the last several weeks, I’ve traveled to so many countries, and EVERYWHERE it seems, the US presidential election is big news. Even when I was in Myanmar ten days ago, local pundits were engaged in the Obamney debate. Chile. Spain. Germany. Finland. Hong Kong. Thailand. Singapore. It was inescapable.
The entire world seems fixated on this belief that it actually matters who becomes the President of the United States anymore… or that one of these two guys is going to ‘fix’ things.
Fact is, it doesn’t matter. Not one bit. And I’ll show you mathematically:
1) When the US federal government spends money, expenses are officially categorized in three different ways.
Discretionary spending includes nearly everything we think of related to government– the US military, Air Force One, the Department of Homeland Security, TSA agents who sexually assault passengers, etc.
Mandatory spending includes entitlements like Medicare, Social Security, VA benefits, etc. which are REQUIRED by law to be paid.
The final category is interest on the debt. It is non-negotiable.
Mandatory spending and debt interest go out the door automatically. It’s like having your mortgage payment autodrafted from your bank account– Congress doesn’t even see the money, it’s automatically deducted.
2) With the rise of baby boomer entitlements and steady increase in overall debt levels, mandatory spending and interest payments have exploded in recent years. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office predicted in 2010 that the US government’s TOTAL revenue would be exceeded by mandatory spending and interest expense within 15-years.
That’s a scary thought. Except it happened the very next year.
3) In Fiscal Year 2011, the federal government collected $2.303 trillion in tax revenue. Interest on the debt that year totaled $454.4 billion, and mandatory spending totaled $2,025 billion. In sum, mandatory spending plus debt interest totaled $2.479 trillion… exceeding total revenue by $176.4 billion.
For Fiscal Year 2012 which just ended 37 days ago, that shortfall increased 43% to $251.8 billion.
In other words, they could cut the entirety of the Federal Government’s discretionary budget– no more military, SEC, FBI, EPA, TSA, DHS, IRS, etc.– and they would still be in the hole by a quarter of a trillion dollars.
4) Raising taxes won’t help. Since the end of World War II, tax receipts in the US have averaged 17.7% of GDP in a very tight range. The low has been 14.4% of GDP, and the high has been 20.6% of GDP.
During that period, however, tax rates have been all over the board. Individual rates have ranged from 10% to 91%. Corporate rates from 15% to 53%. Gift taxes, estate taxes, etc. have all varied. And yet, total tax revenue has stayed nearly constant at 17.7% of GDP.
It doesn’t matter how much they increase tax rates– they won’t collect any more money.
5) GDP growth prospects are tepid at best. Facing so many headwinds like quickening inflation, an enormous debt load, and debilitating regulatory burdens, the US economy is barely keeping pace with population growth.
6) The only thing registering any meaningful growth in the US is the national debt. It took over 200 years for the US government to accumulate its first trillion dollars in debt. It took just 286 days to accumulate the most recent trillion (from $15 trillion to $16 trillion).
Last month alone, the first full month of Fiscal Year 2013, the US government accumulated nearly $200 billion in new debt– 20% of the way to a fresh trillion in just 31 days.
7) Not to mention, the numbers will only continue to get worse. 10,000 people each day begin receiving mandatory entitlements. Fewer people remain behind to pay into the system. The debt keeps rising, and interest payments will continue rising.
8) Curiously, a series of polls taken by ABC News/Washington Post and NBC News/Wall Street Journal show that while 80% of Americans are concerned about the debt, roughly the same amount (78%) oppose cutbacks to mandatory entitlements like Medicare.
9) Bottom line, the US government is legally bound to spend more money on mandatory entitlements and interest than it can raise in tax revenue. It won’t make a difference how high they raise taxes, or even if they cut everything else that remains in government as we know it.
This is not a political problem, it’s a mathematical one. Facts are facts, no matter how uncomfortable they may be. Today’s election is merely a choice of who is going to captain the sinking Titanic.
No we are just fed up with the lying and cheating you Socialists do. Class warfare will get you just this. I have 2 degrees and if they take much more Obama and Calif. I to will start taking and work part time at a job I like. With free health care, food stamps and rent subsdies I can just work say 16 hours a week at Home Depot tool Dept. and do just fine.
This is humorous ! BEFORE the election all of Obama's rhetoric was aimed at the 1% (class warfare at its finest) although his slated increases began at income levels above $200k/$250k respectively, and NOW ... he has changed his rhetoric to 2% after huddling up with his SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP that "OWNS" Obama ... the Unions !
So Bam-Bam pulls one out the a$$, aided by the lamestream media's reluctance to ask any meaningful questions and aided by scandals swept under the rug, and NOW we are going to see the REAL Obama who wants to tax and redistribute !
I can't wait to see what's next .... now that Obama will have "more flexibility" after the elections !!! Cap and Tax is next ! We need to raise our energy costs !!! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!
Talking points are great but the real problem is that taxing these people (the evil 1%) at higher rates won't fix the problem. It'll make you feel good but it still doesn't actually FIX anything. You can see by the posts here what the problem is, every one wants to bitch and moan about everyone else, but not address the hard issues.
Obama won, good for you. But be honest with yourselves, Pelosi and Reid are just as guilty as Bohner and McConnell. If you can't admit that, then you are part of the problem(and as crazy as miss piggy and feisty). Everyone is going to lose on this one. And yes, that means everyone, not just the 1%. Think your payroll taxes aren't going up? Good luck with that.
Patricia... Who is YOUR president? Are you no longer part of the USA? Cite ONE instance of an illegal alien who had law school paid for by the taxpayers.
Lurch... Do you realize that the conspiracy theories you mentioned (Obama phones, etc.) have been COMPLETELY AND THOROUGHLY debunked?
JH... Raising taxes on people who make 250K/yr (not 200K) by 3% is going to cause the end of US growth? Really? Is that what happened under Clinton's 8yrs? The tax rate would be raised BACK to Clinton tax rates... aka a time of growth and surplus.
Some of you need to learn more about the "fiscal cliff" before spewing the BS Faux talking points. The expiration of the OBAMA payroll tax cut is considered by MOST economists to be the most severe danger to the US economy NOT, I repeat, NOT the expiration of the Bush era tax cuts which inordinately benefits the wealthy. Read and critically think before making completely facile arguments and inane comments.
How does declaring a mandate and sniping at Republicans equate to charm? How does asking someone else pay more lower my taxes? He and the democratic party passed the buck until after the election. These are now their tax cuts their tax rates. They "extended" passed them with a majority in both houses. THEY HAD THE POWER TO DO IT! Why did they wait if it is so vital?
Those of you buying the class warfare propaganda ask yourself; really ask yourself; why wait until now and not do it when they had the power? Seriously, ask yourself. Let me help you just in case. It's a talking point. It's a message. Keep on drinking.
Layton - "Wow! It is that type of conservative thinking that got us where we are today and will continue to keep this country stagnant."
wasn't progressive/liberal thinking that got us to were we are now. We are required by law to spend more than we take in. and you somehow think that is a conservative idea?
The federal government is suppose to protect the citizens from outside sources, which means defense spending is mandatory, does it have to be 800 billion? or course not, but guess what happens when you cut defense? Federal Union employees lose jobs, is that what the libs want?
Hey I am all for at minimum freezing defense spending, but guess what, Federal Union employees are going to take the blunt of that, is that what libs want?
I keep hearing the wealthy to pay their fair share. So a wealthy person abides by the laws and pays taxes every year what is not fair about that. tell me what is fair about some people that pay no taxes? i thought it was about being fair. You want fair make every one pay the same tax on every dollar he or she has then it is fair. OBAMA HAS NO PLAN , BLAMING OTHERS IS NOT A WAY TO GET JOBS BACK IN THIS COUNTRY, I WANY ANY PIECE of CHIT libby to tell me Obamas plan that will entice comapnys back the USA. 2 yeahs Obama passed everything he wanted and no jobs. If you think we ar doing good and in recovery wait aonter 2 years and i will ask you then , you voted for who.
Whoomp, there it is!
The danger
to America is not Barack
Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the
Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama
presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a
depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem
is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of
what ails America .
Blaming the
prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools
that made him their prince.
The
Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool.
It is less
likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their
president."
was posted in a foriegn newspaper.
pretty much sums it up.
Enjoy your fiscal cliff.
Patricia .... really ,,,, you really believe what you posted ? Nothing but bitterness and ignorance .... seriously, you need to turn fox news off ... and whether Obama won by 1% or 20%, the FACT is OBAMA WON ! Deal with it ! Be an American and support your AMERICAN President selected by AMERICAN VOTERS.
Lurch ... get a job .... remember red states get all the welfare and handouts .... check it out ... EDUCATE YOURSELF ...
Not - "NOT the expiration of the Bush era tax cuts which inordinately benefits the wealthy. Read and critically think before making completely facile arguments and inane comments."
Do you think letting all the Bush tax cuts expire are going to hurt the poor & middle class less than the "Rich".
I know very few poor and middle class that have any money left at the end of a month or year to pay more taxes.
Do you know that the child tax credit costs the government more than the 3% drop to the highest tax bracket?
Ignorance is not bliss! - should we go on calling your Forest Gump?
blue - or should I say hypocrite.
"the FACT is OBAMA WON !", you weren't saying the same thing after the 2010 election!
Tom-Plymouth ...
My post was directed to Patricia ... so in essence YOUR response was a defense of her rant ...
If progressive/liberal thinking got us to where we are now, well define your now, please. My definition of the NOW is that yes, we pay for schools, roads, infrastructure, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. It looks like Patricia wants to make sure that she does NOT pay into those programs and by your endorsement of her post, you must as well.
I sure didn't see anything in her post about defense spending. But since you went there, yes, it does need to be looked at as our country spends more on it that the 21 countries below us on the spending scale. I'm well aware of the benefits offered to both civilian and military government employees. I seriously think all of the contractors need to be looked at.
Have fun with Patricia.
Ninja Code Man @1.4 - Bye bye!!!! Love it. You have to remember this is the politics wing of The Vine and Tyler and Sally don't put up with rants and insults like you posted above unlike the First Read side of it. See you in your next rereg!
CLWYD - I don't watch Fox, but maybe I should. The President is doing the usual - find money, throw it at problems, hope it goes away - if not borrow money, throw it at problem, hope it goes away - if not blame bush. Obama needs a seminar on "How to be a Strong Leader" and not just "Leader of the Clowns in his Administration"
After the bluster and the partisan rhetoric, my rate will go up...a whopping 3%
Lordy! How will we rich'uns survive this ONSLAUGHT?
Actually, I did pretty good under those Clinton era tax rates, come to think of it, so did almost everyone else...
I'm really not sure why democrats are still complaining about Congress. A couple of weeks ago you voted Obama into office but failed to put more democrats into Congress. Why?? So that you would have a scapegoat for more failures from your President?
Unfortunately, that's the way it will always be...everyone is concerned about the debt, but no one wants any of the cuts to come from "their" programs.
I say cut all programs and discretionary spending across the board...everyone has to sacrifice a little if we are ever going to have a chance to reign in our $16 trillion in debt.
This is not a RIGHT or LEFT problem, this is a problem facing all of us and our children and grandchildren....at some point, spending needs to be cut...there's no way out of the whole without cutting spending and raising taxes and unfortunately there are going to be people unhappy.
My very conservative friend posted this today. Though I am a moderate, I think it is intelligent and well-thought out. Not sure if it is his, or if it is a copy of something, but after reading it, and watching the news conference, I am VERY worried about things to come. I know my healthcare is going up to $1100 per month for my family of 2 adults, 2 children. I have already starting stockpiling what seems to be a worthless form of legal tender, and have started making sure that my children are safe and secure. Shame.
However, I want to know why Ninjacodeman hasn't been deleted. That wasn't necessary but obviously, reason doesn't reign supreme on boards, now does it? Enjoy the read below:
Let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story. If people understood the problems and stopped being so Pig Headed maybe the problems could get fixed. Sadly, I don't think they will. Good post and you didn't even call anyone a bad name.
Cracks me up... He get's 51% of the vote, and the majority of the people who voted for him pay zero federal taxes! And this is a mandate? This man is delusional!
The problem is, the most wealthy people get away with paying almost NOTHING in taxes (see: Mitt Romney, Donald Trump) especially compared to what most middle class Americans pay. You Republicans bitch about "entitled welfare bums", completely writing off an entire socioeconomic class as lazy and useless (which is an old, tired, untrue stereotype that I'm pretty sick and tired of hearing) but you somehow think it's OK that the incredibly wealthy get away with paying nothing?! Talk about hypocritical, as usual. I guess your answer is to tax the poor & middle class, squeeze the last few pennies out of them, and let the rich get away with paying nothing and hoarding their money. GREAT PLAN GUYS.
And what exactly is your problem here? Obama is trying to keep your taxes constant, whereas the Republicans are holding it hostage to the tax cut of the richest. And your problem is with "cheating Socialists?"
The Republicans were elected to the House and THAT was a mandate to make sure taxes did not increase. If you want to speak about "mandates" it was the Republicans elected to the House to protect the country against further demise by the failed Obama economic policies.
Most of the people who voted for Romney also pay 0 federal taxes, but as far as that goes, the people who voted for Obama pay more taxes than the people who voted against him. It is well-known that Romney won the white vote. What is less well-known is that Obama won the educated white vote. Here's something you will never find on Fox News. Proof that the more educated one is, the higher the tendency to vote in favor of liberal views: http://www.progressivepolicy.org/2011/03/more-college-graduates-more-democratic-voters/
Try again.
Please see http://www.immigrationpolicy.org/sites/default/files/docs/AILAcampaignmyths01-08.pdf regarding the illegal aliens on welfare myth.
By "failed economic policies", do you mean the reduced deficit under Obama? Or record profits for American companies under Obama? Or continually dropping unemployment under Obama?
If these are "failed economic policies", the country is in desperate need of more of them. If you want to see real failed economic policies, examine what happened under President Bush.
it must be tough to be a republican and know that a majority of america disagree with your policies. you lost the whitehouse, you lost 2 more seats in the senate and if not for redistricting you would have lost the house too.
on November 6 the american people walked into the voting boooth and decided to raise taxes on the rich. time to get over it
your only other option is to head to canada, but wait they are socialist there.lol
maybe head south, but wait, you hate mexicans
well maybe you can go find an island somewhere and you and grover can elect mitt as you leader and live happily ever after
to Tom-Plymouth (your post was well-written and nicely put, by the way)...I was in France during there elections. I got the view point of many French citizens concerning and comparing America to European countries. They basically said that we are all laughing stocks and should be ashamed that we don't take better care of our citizens...well, most people told me that. They are also the ones who support the Socialist party. I befriended a lovely couple, originally from the U.S. (he from Brazil), who worked their 32 hour work weeks, had free healthcare (due to their higher-end jobs, their care is a bit better than others below them), and voted socialist. Now, they are complaining because he raised their taxes sky-high to cover a mounting debt in France caused by people not contributing their fair share, i.e. the "lessers" of society, meaning the beggars, the thieves, and the people who have not contributed to the funding. Sounds an awful lot like Americans griping, huh?
I say this simply: I am not against helping my fellow man. I am against making it mandatory to take from the haves to give to the will-nots. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it...my French friends are now regretting it, big time. You can vote in someone who might sound pretty, or be what you want them to be, because they might surprise you...this goes for both Democrats and Republicans. You put a crook in a position, face facts- he's gonna take what you lay out for him or her.
Can some of the brilliant libs please explain to those of us who don't know, just what is 'fair share'? Who decides/determines 'fair share'?
Until you can define it, don't show your ignorance by saying it.
I will compromise as long as you do what I want...
@bruce, you're right. There were so many things wrong with the republican platform that we couldn't possibly be sure that 51% of the voters support raising taxes on wealthy Americans.
But it seems I remember W. saying "I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it" after an even narrower victory over John Kerry. What was he talking about?
In 2008 Barack Obama made it clear that he would enact health care reform and throughout the 2012 campaign he made it perfectly clear that he would seek to raise taxes on wealthy Americans. Winning a second term with that profound of a proclamation would seem to be a mandate.
The deal the Teabaggers/GOP wanted and agreed to is the expiration of the tax cuts. They are getting what they wanted. Suck it up! You asked for it.
Get out of Afghanistan and cut military spending. Entitlements were paid for by the people who are set to receive them. You can split hairs all you want, but, to deliver less than what was promised and paid for is not reform, it's theft.
Patricia---and I suggest we start by cutting your social security and medicare and any veterans benefits you or anyone in your family is getting because I am serious about reducing the deficit. Then, if you are making over $250,000 I suggest we raise your tax rate to 50%. This will clearly balance the budget and cut entitlements.

Well, we have learned your president is a chronic habitual lair.
Obama- If the Supreme Court throws out the federal health care law, it “would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”
Obama- “For the first time since 1990, American manufacturers are creating new jobs.”
Obama- “Preventive care … saves money, for families, for businesses, for government, for everybody.”
Obama- “Thirty million Americans, including a lot of people in Florida, are going to be able to get healthcare next year because of that law.”
Obama- “I made a bunch of these promises during the campaign. … We’ve got about 60 percent done in three years.”
Obama Admin.- Under President Barack Obama, the United States has “doubled our exports.”
Obama Admin.- The president’s proposed budget “will help reduce the deficit by $400 billion over the next decade to the lowest level since Dwight Eisenhower was president.”
Obama- Under the White House’s budget proposal, “we will not be adding more to the national debt” by the middle of the decade.
Obama- Twelve judges have thrown out legal challenges to the health care law because they rejected “the notion that the health care law was unconstitutional.”
Obama- “I didn’t raise taxes once.”
Obama- When President Franklin D. Roosevelt started Social Security, “it only affected widows and orphans,” and when Medicare began, “it was a small program.”
Obama- The Bush administration had been “giving (auto companies) billions of dollars and just asking nothing in return.”
Obama- “The vast majority of the money I got was from small donors all across the country.”
Obama- “We’ve excluded lobbyists from policymaking jobs.”
Obama- When Obama was interviewed by American reporters in Asia, “Not one of them asked me about Asia. Not one of them asked me about the economy.”
Obama- Insurers delayed an Illinois man’s treatment, “and he died because of it.”
Obama- Health reform will “give every American the same opportunity” to buy health insurance the way members of Congress do.
Obama- Preventive care “saves money.”
Obama- (No earmarks in spending bill)
Barack Obama has been proven by more than one fact checking organization to be a habitual liar.

You have 80 percent of the American people who support a balanced approach. Eighty percent of the American people support an approach that includes revenues and includes cuts. So the notion that somehow the American people aren’t sold is not the problem: Gallup Poll: Only 69%

Wyo 2, it won't help, but we'll feel good for a while. That's what all this crap is about...feeling good. Not one economist anywhere says anything positive about this direction. The man has four years of dismal numbers (except Excutive orders, good numbers there) but his rhetoric makes us feel good.
And don't forget to blame the other guy: rich-poor, men-women, white-black-latino, straight-gay, Republican-Democrat. According to this president, if you're not happy, it's not your fault, the guy in the other group is the problem.
Like someone else has already posted, I don't care who is in the White House but stop the BS. And compromise doesn't mean one side or the other gets their way so that group can get all puffed up on the eveing news. The irresponsible, incompetent clowns in DC, ALL of them, have lead us to the miserable situation we're in now and until we hold ALL if them accountable and demand better it won't change.
And now I feel better, actually I feel good. So,see, it must be working.
Get a job Pig Face!
Byron - Or continually dropping unemployment under Obama?
Wait we have more people not working today than the day of his first election.
How is it is unemployment is down, but of course you mean the unemployment rate, which hasn't really moved much lately has it?
Byron - I don't know where you're getting your numbers, but unemployment is about the same as when Obama took office, the deficit has grown, and although businesses are making record profits, we still have a bad economy. This is a bad sign. If companies were making record profits, I would expect that to only be good if the economy was also doing great. Otherwise, it's probably from cutting jobs, etc. and where are those records going? main street or wall street?
So it appears that the rich will have a month and a half to pass their money into non-taxable forms. Corporations will have to distribute $800 Billion in dividends (made since 2008) rather than face that tax. People have been pulling out of the market all week (quite a day today, huh?)... and Outsourcing will now increase exponentially. Nice work, you jackasses. People aren't as stupid as you'd like to think they are... otherwise they'd be poor, like you and me.
wyo2,
Flushing $4,000,000,000,000 down the drain for bush's lost wars isn't throwing money away. That is 1/4th of the national debt. Add the bush tax cuts and you can account for more than 1/2 of the money thrown away.
Tom,
Wrong. Taking capital gains from 14% to the current income rate for companies, 35%, would produce about 500 billion in revenue. Almost all of the huge earners, the top of the 1%, are people that make money from money; in other words people that are investors and hedge funds and the like. Closing down the charity deduction is morally the right thing to do as well and will produce an increase in tax monies as well.
Since no one donates to get a tax break, as people like ProBusiness have said in the past, we do not need this deduction and it is creating unneeded losses in revenues.
We could easily raise one trillion in taxes by raising corporate income and cap. gains to 39% and then closing off some deductions and loopholes used by big businesses. Next raise taxes on individuals making 200,000 a year and couples at 250,000 a year by 5%.
Essentially reinstate Clinton era rates plus a bit more bite with closing a few loop hold and ending some deductions. Of course we do need to cut spending. The first place it should happen is in the paychecks of Congress members. They do not need that much money for just sitting around, arguing, and not compromising or doing what is best for the country. Drop their salaries by 25% and then add a constitutional amendment so that pay raises happen under national vote so they cannot arbitrarily give themselves raises.
Next cut the military budget by 25% to 35% and close down many of our international bases. Set the retirement age to 70 and then add legislation that automatically increases the retirement age by one year every decade. Place a cap on how much you can draw from SS, in other words you cannot take out more than you have put in, and allow the SS recipient to take out as much or as little a month as they want as long as it is under 10% of their total holdings.
Changes to Medicare also are needed. Do all of this and we will be in better shape and can start paying down the debt.
The biggest obstacle to tax reform? You are
If Congress and the White House would just fix the tax code - by getting rid of decades of deductions, exemptions and other giveaways – they could lower tax rates and balance the federal budget.
It sounds like a great idea - until the loophole that's closed is the one that puts money in your pocket.
That’s one big reason Congress and the White House have been unable to agree on broad-based tax reform for decades.
“Everybody loves to talk about it: ‘All we have to do is broaden the tax base, cut all the loopholes and lower tax rates,' ” said Nick Kasprak, an analyst at the Tax Foundation. “It sounds nice when you don’t get specific about it. But as soon as you start taking about specifics, whatever interest group is behind that tax break is going to fight tooth and nail to keep it.”

This is going to be fun to watch!!!
51%, or approximately so, constitutes a mandate? Geez, this guy knows as little about statistics as he does about economics!
Unfortunately, even the small increase in taxes on the wealthy will not result in any of them paying their "fair share". They will continue to pay a smaller percentage than middle income families.
THAT is the real wealth redistribution. Middle class families losing more of their hard earned money so that the wealthy get to keep more of their own. And a small 3% tax increase will not change that.
Romney pays less than 14% in taxes. If we were to give him the full increase, that is only 17% . . . still below a middle class family. In reality, deductions will be used to reduce that increase to probably 1%, so he MIGHT pay 15% total. How is that fair? It's not.
And if we remove deductions, Republicans will want them removed across the board, which will hit middle income families harder than the wealthy. So that is not an option.
I would like to see any capital gains in excess of $200k be taxed at regular income rates. Remove the mortgage deductions on 2nd homes, NOT primary residence homes. And tax churches so that they can not be used as tax shelters (the way Romney has used it).
Then keep the current tax rates (DO NOT CUT THEM), cut spending in wasteful areas (including the military), relax some regulations slightly (DO NOT REMOVE THEM). Finally, give businesses a tax incentive to keep jobs here with decent pay and benefits.
I can dream, can't I?
hmmm......so he has a mandate for taxes, and this will probably lead to higher taxes on the top 2%, they can afford it, doesn't seem like the Kelley's are doing to well. I guess they could have lived within their means. Now I wonder if this can be extrapolated down through the classes!?
Geowil...in the past, when that method has been tried, investors head for the hills and businesses close shop. You get a big chunk of revenue in the beginning, but shortly down the road the overall tax revenue base crashes. Where, exactly, do you suppose we should get the money then?
Printing money like crazy deflated the value of the dollar and my retirement savings. So now I have to save even more to make up for it. That takes money out of the economy. Now they want to raise my taxes, so I'll have even less discretionary income to spend.
Tell me again how that's going to help grow the economy "trickle-up" style?
Indeo - although I usually disagree with you, I am with you on taxes. I personally am against the huge benefits of qualified divends and LTCG.
I am against using $250,000 per year as a magical cutoff, but that's a different topic.
Also, it is not fair to lump Mitt Romney and, say, Warren Buffet into the same mix of people who DO pay the highest tax rates. Preaching that the highest earners don't "pay their fair share" is not entirely correct, and spreads the idea that rich people mostly pay lower tax rates, which is not correct.
If it was me I would not vote for any tax increases and no raising of the debt ceiling. If I can't live within my means I don't go to my boss and say give me more.
Of course more people will vote to tax the top 2% more, but that doesn't make it fair. It just screams of make anyone pay but me. Heck we could probably get a good number of votes to sell the bottom 1% into slavery in China if it meant they wouldn't have to pay more in taxes and the price of gas was going to drop back down to $1.50 a gallon.
In a nut shell the far right wants to delegitimize the fact that President Obama is indeed the twice elected President of the United States.
So America has woken up and we aren't listening to these far right extremist, who do nothing but spread their hate, intolerance and in many cases racism.
The median personal wealth for members of Congress grew to $911,510 in 2009, up from $785,515 in 2008, according to Center of Responsive Politics. Nearly half the members of Congress are millionaires.
How do you think Congress will vote on this "Tax The Rich"?
Askaboutet I don't know where you get YOUR numbers but if the participation rate was the same today as the very day Obama was sworn in the UE rate would be at 10.8-11%. From February 2008 to July 2010 we lost 8.8 million jobs. According to the administration we have "created" (still love that terminology as it should be recovered) 5.5 million. That tells me that we are still short 3.3 million from the height of employment numbers in the country. Now I will grant you the whole baby boomers retiring mumbo jumbo but, the fact remains even though 7.8 is the same percentage as January 2009, we are NOWHERE close to being "about even".
What needs to be CUT is the cost of GOVERNMENT! Each politician has a budget, staff and lots more to cut. They should be on Medicare and Social Security like the rest of us, and not their own programs. Most people elected are millionaires and don't need the hand-outs anyway.
@guy, they already agreed to and signed off on allowing the Bush tax cuts to permanently end in January. That's how it will start, but remember, Barack Obama is much more adept at negotiation than his congressional counter weight. It would seem that by banking on a second term win, he played their ego against them and they took the bait.
Damn Patricia Paulson-A Mom I feel sorry for your kids having to have such a hate filled mother. Hopefully at 21 they will seek the therapy to get over you.
As for this country, you Reich-wingers are always saying of the US "Love it or leave it." Well the country spoke, and guess what, it isn't the hateful racist stupid place you all want it to be, so if you aren't going to help move the US forward, get the hell out! Yesterday's Pew research pole found 53% of people in the US blame the GOP 100% for the fiscal mess. Six out of every ten exit poll respondents on election day said they want to see taxes raised so everyone pays a fair share. Even Fox Noise said so, and they lie 99.9999999999999% of the time, but on this one they couldn't. So love it, or leave it, and I am hoping you and others here do leave it, as the US will be better off without the hate and greed.
My wife and I do very well, and we don't mind paying our taxes. It is the price one pays for living in a civil society. Even Jesus said when asked about taxes "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto god what is his", so if you are Christian, any of you, you are ignoring your Lord (not to mention ignoring his teachings on treating the poor, the ill, the dregs of society he ministered to. He didn't go to the wealthy or the greedy, he said of them, "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for them to get into heaven". Guess we know where you GOPers are headed...
Just read an article indicating Grover Norquist is going the way of Donald Trump - irrelevant! Many of the new Republican House members refused to sign his oath and others that have are now saying - too bad, it doesn't mean anything to them. Apparently the shine has worn off dear Grover.
The President knows that 63% of Americans have no problem with increasing taxes on those making $250,000 as well as making cuts to some programs. We are all in this together and those making more don't get a free pass.
Oh, to the individual who went on and on about "Obamaphones" - do a little homework. The free program started in 1996 - it's a program handled by the FCC - always has been!
Job1 - honestly, I think it's posts like that that actually spread the hate and racism.
I actually voted or Obama in 2008, and then honestly came of the opinion that it was the liberals who were more "hateful" and for lack of a better word, ignorant, I guess? By no means am I saying most or all liberals are either of these, but I was surprised to find out that (in my humble opinion) I found more people like that on the liberal side, than the conservative side.
Talk to the hand - sorry - you might have misunderstood what my point was. I am completely on your side in terms of how employment is doing. I was simply responding to someone who said the unemployment rate has gone down throughout Obama's presidency. I was just trying to prove him wrong, saying "oficially" it's at/around the same level as when he started, which obviously means it couldn't have gone down the whole time.
I am on board with you re: the real unemployment rate, population % employed, workforce, etc. I was jsut trying to make a quick point re: what that person said.
Obama states "that voters have given me a mandate to raise someone else's taxes. Just not theirs."
Sorry ask, I didn't read Byron's post who you were disputing with and thought it was on the other side of the argument. : )
If you can't look around and SEE examples of failed economic policies by Obama then I can't help you. Things like:
1) 7.9% Unemployment Rate - HIGHER than when Obama took office
2) 2% GDP growing slower than last year which is slower than the previous year
3) 40% increase of people on Food Stamps
4) 1 in 6 in Poverty
5) Labor-Participation Rate lowest in the last 40 years
6) Highest percent of unemployed 6 months or more since the Great Depression
7) Countless companies clearly telling the country (and world) that increased regulations, ObamaCare, and now a desire to raise taxes will force them to layoff a large number of employees
8) A stock market getting ready to go into freefall
How so many unintelligent people voted for Obama AGAIN is beyond me. When Obama's campaign is "it is STILL about HOPE, it is STILL about CHANGE" you KNOW the next four years are going to be catastrophic - and it all starts with continued anti-business divisive rhetoric from an incompetent president.
You people do realize that trump, romney, kerry, the kennedys, rangel....they won't be affected by this right? They will just get smarter in hiding their money and legally evading taxes. You know who this is going to hit? People like my 84 yr. old inlaws, that worked all their lives, saved, scrimped, sacrificed so they could invest in their retirement. They are just barely 1%ers, this close to it [], and now their have to pay for people who don't want to make the same sacrifices that they made to be comfortable in their old age. Shame on all you greedy bastards that thought trump and romney would pay.
Geowil, good luck with those ideas. and by the way no matter the tax rates, we always collect the same taxes at about 17.7% of GDP.
cutting defense by 25 -35% layoffs off how many Americans?
Numbers might not be your thing, but they do count.
Obama is a socialist commie pig. Oink, oink!
Time to SECEDE!!
We no longer have a government "for the people and by the people". The Constitution has been used as toilet paper and a government based on "states rights" has been ruined by a bloated federal government with departments of energy, education, transportation, etc. that mandate what states must do. In other words states rights have been removed.
The founding fathers were smart. They had seen what damage a powerful federal government could do. So the wrote the Constitution giving limited power to the federal government and the states then decided what they wanted to do. Want a liberal state? Have at it - then I move to a conservative state. Think your state is too conservative? Then move to a state that is more liberal. Then these bickering arguments are mute points. But when a federal government mandates the people are split. 50% is always unhappy after an election and the other 50% are complaining that they can't get something done with their "mandate".
So the solution is to start over. Several states secede. Conservatives will be happy because the new country can do what the founding fathers wanted - to limit the new federal government. Liberals should be happy because the dastardly and "hateful" Republicans will not be around any longer to block your progression towards a Socialist economy. Then the people have a choice: Stay in the United Socialist States of America or relocate to the new country founded on the same principles as our founding fathers.
Enough beating around the bush and denying the inevitable discussion. The only solution is for several states to secede and we have two countries with one founded on Conservative values of limited government and spending within your means and the other a Socialist country destined for bankruptcy.
Why would anybody not agree? Wouldn't that make BOTH sides happy? One country with no Liberals in the way of progress and the other country with no Conservatives in the way of their "progress"?
Secession is the only long-term solution.
askaboutet
I will agree that $250,000 is completely different than the Romney's and Buffet's of the world. So maybe that is not the right cut off. A million would be a better choice . . . but again, it won't do much without revamping the loopholes and deductions.
askaboutet - either you're reading comprehension skills are lacking or you just aren't reading anything that is posted on most sites. I have never in my life seen the hatred and total ignorance posted by Republicans that I have seen over the past year. There is the absolute stupidity about his birth certificate; his college transcripts; horrible names for him and genuine hatred of a man who is a good person. If you believe liberals show ignorance and mean-spiritedness then you clearly aren't reading posts of the far right - or you're not telling the truth.
If we need a TRILLION dollars just to be even and not have to borrow, how the hell is taxing the "rich" even gonna begin to help??? CUT SPENDING YOU FVCKING IDIOT!!!!!!
Hmmmmm, 48% say no, and 52% say yes. Who wins?
It sucks to be a Republican.
Pro Business
Better sell your stock fast. Your guy lost the election because our economy is doing much better now than it was when Obama took office.
You claim to teach an economics course, so unless you are lying about that, you know that the momentum of a recession creates job losses even after the recession is ended.
The fed gov't took in $1.40T in income tax revenue this year. If Obama is successful in raising taxes for the wealthiest Americans (term used loosely) for the sake of easy math let's say 10%. Revenue figure looks something like $1.54T. Great. Our debt is $16T. Ok maybe I'm bad at math, but someone please explain how this "mandate" (which nearly half the country disagrees with) is anything more than a drop in a very large bucket?
If adding $140b per year in revenue is Obama's master plan to save our economy, you have all been duped by worse math than the Romney campaign.
Are you really assigning blame to him in Jan, Feb and March of 2009? He was in office 3 months - which consequently were the pinnacle of job losses nationally. Unemployment when he took office was 8.3%. Is math hard for you?
Didint we just come out of the worse economic meltdown since the depression?
Who cares? We are not governed by companies. Maybe if companies took better care of their workers this wouldnt have happened.
ROFL! Must say I am laughing at your lame post by now. What was the DOW when Obama took office? What is it now? Yes - clearly he is tanking the DOW. And the DOW tanks if someone farts cross ways.
ROFL! If he is all of those things - what does that say about your guy? Face it - the majority of Americans dont agree with you or your ass backwards political philosophy and hypocrisy. Run up deficits - then bitch about em when the black guy gets elected. Start 2 wars and then bitch because we are running deficits each year. Decrease revenues and ramp up spending - then assign the entire debt blame to the next guy. LOL! You people are clowns. COme here and let me honk your red nose!
so, we increase the tax on the top 1%. in turn, that 1% which i'm sure own businesses, will in turn raise the price of their products 3 to 4%. which the middle class purchase, which in turn, makes it a middle class tax hike. CASE CLOSED !!!
@JH-479998
President Obama said $250,000 to be taxes 3.8% more not people making $200,000
And 95 percent of the country do not make $200,000 a year you clown. That is the reason you lost you can't even add correctly. WTF are you calculating Mittwitts plan again? That's never going to happen.
Either you agree with the 48% and get rolled over or you agree with the majority of the united states and help your fellow American out.
The days of I got mind and you are on your own are over. Get use to it. And I make way more than what requirement is.
Face facts you lost. Win won we get to choose you have chosen long enough for us. NO MORE
the money i have is MY MONEY! not yours, not the governments. the government has not provided me with anything that was not paid for by me or other tax payers in my family so in return i will not be giving the government any of my money until they can learn to budget OUR MONEY. government has a spending problem only. you have no right to my money through social programs.
tax cuts, breaks ,subsidies or w/e you want DO NOT COST THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ONE DIME!!! its not their money to begin with so how can they show a loss? there are no deficits from giving people their money back. im so sick of hearing about how such n such tax cuts add to government debt, it just simply aint true.
what part of REPUBLIC do any of you not get? we cannot be a democracy and as such in current form we are and in violation of the US constitution. as an american citizen i do not have to recognize a government that has so blatantly disregarded the US constitution. i dont need a judge to tell me whats wrong.
I never thought i would go to the place i am at but, here's my logic. A few years back when the entire country was polled regarding Same sex marriage, the MAJORITY voted against allowing it. Then, the government pandered by stating that this issue was not something that could be decided by a majority and somehow shape shifted it into a civil rights issue, allowing a MINORITY to gain the right that most people abhor. So, in keeping with that strictly democratic method, President Obama is the president to only about 51% of the lemmings in this country. He is not the president, nor does he earn the right of respect from the 49% he intends to drive a bus over with his socialist policies. I have respect for and will only commiserate with the 49% who saw this fraudster for what he is. The rest of you 51% can just go die under a rock.
SeekingSanity - sorry. I did not mean to make light of the ignorant, racist comments people have posted re: Obama. But, I do stand by what I was saying, which was more meant towards the general liberal population, and their ideas/thoughts of *general* republicans and republican ideas.
Solutions
"President Obama said $250,000 to be taxes 3.8% more not people making $200,000"
It is 200K for individuals and 250K for families, did you miss the memo?
Also - "Face facts you lost. Win won we get to choose you have chosen long enough for us."
Were you saying the same thing after the 2010 election? or were you whinning like a 4 year about the obstructionist?
Would you like the definition of hypocrite?
askaboutet - we'll continue to disagree. I have never seen the ignorant hatred I've seen spewed by the right wingers. Liberals don't hold a candle to their mean-spiritedness and general hatred - not only of the President but also of the poor. It's a sad state of affairs when people have to put those less fortunate down to feel good about themselves.
ProBusiness,
See ya, good luck with that!
Do you know what a Libertarian is? Ans a person who's political party was beaten in the last election.
So no one's going to "moderate" NinjaCodeMan for the "Patricia...You have proven that you are worthless... You just went on ignore you worthless b!tch.."
Is it because NinjaCodeMan is obviously politically aligned with liberals and that's how we roll here on NBC? I got suspended for calling a collective group of unnamed people stupid once. Maybe we have a new found freedom of speech now? Just wondering, you know because of the foul language directed at someone specific.
Mandate my butt. Assuming that Romney's 47% voted for Obama he got 5% of the vote from people who actually pay taxes.
If you asked 52 wolves and 48 sheep what to have for dinner they're going to vote lamb chops every time
Shaak: Did you actually SAY the economy is doing better? This economy has not improved in the four years Obama has been in office and it is getting worse by the day. Yes I DO teach Economics and I told you FOUR YEARS AGO what today was going to look like and it is EXACTLY what I said. Business and Consumer uncertainty, divisive, a declining economy, higher unemployment, significant increase in entitlements (disability, food stamps, etc.), and a downgrade of our credit.
I was on this site stating these things weekly and they came true. NOT because I am a prognosticator but because I understand and teach Economics. What I said would happen is what EVERY college Economics textbook in the country says will happen when you reduce the incentives in the private sector. Maybe if you actually TOOK an Economics class you would have also easily been able to project what our economy would now look like.
All I can say is prepare wisely for the next four years - it won't be pretty. I know you don't care how I am preparing but I will offer it anyway: I have been buying precious metals for the last 4 years (silver, copper, etc.), increasing my ammunition, have a survival stash of freeze dried food with a 25 year life, and have water purification tablets. I started building up assuming I would NEVER need it but have it "just in case". All I can say is NOW I am glad I have been building that stash. You want to know what the NEXT four years could potentially bring? Sorry, I will leave that to your imagination. But just remember what the Greece riots look like because we are not that far behind.
Tom & Solutions - the greatest part about the $250,000 is this:
In 2007 (latest info I could quickly find) the 400 top earners in the U.S. reported an average of $344,000,000 of income in 2007. That means, if you had a football field, with the 0 yard line be people making $0, and the opposite endzone representing the people making the most ($344,000,000), EVERY SINGLE TAX BRACKET would be within the 1 yard line. Seem weird?!?! what about this:
someone making $200/yr makes a greater percentage of someone making $250,000/yr, than the person making $250,000/yr does of someone making the most. However, the $250,000 and the person making $344,000,000 are in the same tax bracket. Obama's tax code would distinguish people making $150,000/yr and $250,000/yr but not distinguish people making $250,000/yr from people making $250,000,000/yr.
mendy07 - clearly you make asinine assumptions. Most of us who voted for President Obama work and pay taxes. You DO know the red states receive more in federal "handouts" right?
Mike: Seems to me you are just giving excuses for the failures of the last four years but that doesn't surprise me - when we have a president that cannot do anything but give excuses why shouldn't his lemmings do the same.
Seeking Sanity - fair enough. deal.
I don't support that idiot you call a president and I never will .. you can think what you want
Honest question for the Dems,
How are we going to pay for the debt and mandatory spending, plus discretionary spending?
3 I will give you:
1. let the Bush/Obama tax cuts expire for those making over 200k/250k
2. and cutting military by 10%
3. Ending the war in Afghan.
now we we have saved 200 billion (rounding WAY, WAY, WAY up)
we are about 1 trillion or so dollars short.
What say you?
If this is going to be Obama's approach for his second term, I predict 4 more years of gridlock.
Obama needs to look at what Reagan and Clinton did to work with the "other party" when they were in power. They used the bully pulpit at times, but they didn't start out that way.
Ahh well...so much for my friends that expected Obama to become another Clinton moderate in his second term...
sorry guy but you are a complete LIAR!!! you are nothing but a partisan hack who is brainwashed by others. ill be glad to be your friend and work through our problems but someone like you always blames the opposition for everything under the sun because that is what you are told. do you ever read your own posts or the posts of your fellow party hacks? i guess im asking too much from someone who is blinded.
please take of those blinders and see the ruin all around, your party is just as corrupt as the next so no need to lie for them, just look at the typical posts from people like you.
i dont even know why i waste my time posting lol guess im bored and looking for a good fight lol i have more than enough ammo from these garbage posts to fight for decades to come. the 8 years of bush bashing was enough but the continuing childish behavior is all to funny for me.
if any one is a fan of historical political writings and predictions then they would find it humorous that we are running to the end of our predicted downfall as fast as we can but then again that too was also predicted. ill be waiting.....
The issue for the GOP is not whether or not the tax rates will go up for those making $200,000/$250,000, they will, the question is whether they will also go up for those making less than that amount and if everyone will blame them if they do go up.
The GOP has resigned itself to a tax increase. Its going to happen. Obama won on campaigning for a tax increase. If he GOP controlled Congress does nothing, which they are very good at, taxes go up. The laws were written so that if the people decide they want to keep only the GOP policies of cut spending, cut taxes; they can vote for the GOP president and we move backward.
However, the people voted to move forward so the GOP must cooperate or they lose what little leverage they have.
Mike: One other note - I said the unemployment rate is HIGHER now than when Obama took office.
Facts (http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000):
October 2012: Latest report shows 7.9%
January 2009: When Obama took office 7.8%
(And in November 2008 when Obama was elected it was 6.8%. THAT is relevant because unemployment is a function of expectations so you SEE what the businesses expected with an Obama win)
I don't know what they teach YOU in public schools nowadays but LAST time I checked 7.9% is HIGHER than 7.8%. When you can't get something THAT EASY right why should anybody believe anything else you say?
What's going to happen: the Republicans, sticking to their pledge to Grover Norquist about not raising taxes, won't budge on raising taxes for the top 2% -- which the public favors by as much as two to one http://www.people-press.org/2012/07/16/raising-taxes-on-rich-seen-as-good-for-economy-fairness/ -- as has been the case for many years now. Sure, there will be some progress, like closing loopholes (maybe) and eliminating deductions (which will affect everyone), but Republicans will not allow tax hikes for the very wealthy (who pay an effective tax rate of around 13%, like Mitt Romney, while most Americans pay around 30%); they can't, because that's who lines their pockets. So we'll go off the "fiscal cliff", everyone's taxes will go up, then two weeks later Congress will pass a middle class tax cut, back to the current rates. Taxes for the wealthy will stay up, and the Republicans will be able to honor their pledge to Norquist by not raising taxes. That takes away his clout (thankfully!) and he becomes a footnote in history.
Some will say that letting the Bush tax cuts expire is akin to raising taxes. Wrong. They were originally supposed to expire at the end of 2010, but the Republicans forced a deal in order for Obama to get unemployment extended, amongst other things. The Republicans put the 2010 provision in the bill! This time I don't think Obama will back down...and he shouldn't. The public at large will blame Republicans if we go off the cliff http://washington.cbslocal.com/2012/11/14/study-majority-of-americans-to-blame-gop-if-fiscal-cliff-not-avoided/.
Then again, the wealthy will just ship more money to the Cayman Islands. They love blaming the poor for not paying taxes...but it's OK for them to put their money in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes. There's a difference between not making enough in income and stashing millions in other countries to avoid taxes. Those wealthy people who complain about the poor not paying taxes are the very definition of hypocrites...
dirp,
Regardless of whether or not it's a smart move politically, I think Obama is miscalculating if he thinks the GOP will back down if he threatens to end all of the Bush tax cuts if he isn't allowed to only end the cuts for the upper 1 or 2%. If he draws the line in the sand (like he appears to be doing), he'll either have to cave again, or we'll all see our taxes go up.
dirp, Please answer my above question, what is your solution to borrowing money?
FYI - If the House is considered "does nothing" how do you define the senate that hasn't passed a budget in how many years?
askaboutet - read Swagganaut's post. Need I say more?
Not only are the far right a totally mean-spirited group - they are clearly lacking enough intelligence to have a true discussion without ranting.
Hey, where is that line for the handouts...? This working for a living sucks. I want you all to take care of me!
@notliborcon, somewhere... way the hell back there ....
Because Obama HAS ALREADY RAISED TAXES ON THE WEALTHY through Obamacare, "returning" those pre-"Bush Tax Cut" rates to the Clinton-era rates ..... will actually mean a HIGHER TOP RATE of taxation under Obama than Clinton ! But don't let "reality" get in the way of your flawed "logic".
"You'll have to read the bill (Obamacare) to see what's in it".
Tom - it's almost like talking to a wall! (walls) I can't say it enough on here, but reading these posts has actually made me more republican than democrat, and I voted for Obama in 2008!
The amount of times I've seen ant-Obama try to pose a discussion/argument to someone super in favor, and the person never answers is nuts!
DW - while most Americans pay around 30%.
This is by far and away the most ignorant Statement every typed on this board.
Do you even know that married or single you have to make 178,650 to be in a tax bracket above 30%.
I would hope people on the left would be embarrassed by your ignorant comment.
DG: Let me help you with something very simple: If tax rates are now 35% and they go to 39.5% THAT is a tax rate increase. What BIZARO WORLD do you live in when you say going from 35% to 39.5% is NOT an increase because it was planned? That is like saying a person is driving 60 mph but they just raised the speed limit to 65 mph but that is not a speed increase because it was planned. Sorry, anybody with the IQ at least 10 points above a turnip understands that going from a current 35% to 39.5% IS a tax increase and to say otherwise is, well, less than 10 points IQ above a turnip?
Lets see, If I am considered rich, above $250K income, then taxes will be raised by between 4% and 8%. So 6% is the middle (hope we agree on that) so that's $15,000 additional tax I would pay.
Lets go for an income of $500K and that would be an additional $30,000 tax revenue. Not very many Americans earn 500K but lets use that figure for the "rich" average.
2% of the working force, or roughly 3 million, people/small busines earns that $500K. 3 million people paying an additional $30K in tax money = $90 billion.
According to the white house http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals the US spends 10.4 billion a day. So taxing the rich more gives us 8 days of spending.
Remind me again...?
Did Reagan & Clinton have those on the losing team sit down the night of the inauguration to plot for the failure of the President?
Did Reagan & Clinton have the Senate minority leader loudly & proudly proclaim on the floor of the Senate, their ONLY agenda was to ensure President Obama served one term?
Did Reagan & Clinton have a house member yell, YOU LIE while the President was delivering the SOTU address?
Give me a break with the false equivalency!
Imagine where we would be now if these treasonous right wing bastards actually put the COUNTRY first, like they scream about while wrapped in a flag & carrying a cross...
haha Jim - also, people don't want to return to the Clinton tax levels. they only want a super small minority of people to return to those higher rates. Seriously - I think using the Clinton tax rates as an example of a time when things were better is silly, but if that IS someone's argument, then arguing that it should only apply to people making over $250,000 ISN'T returning to the tax policies under Clinton. Totally nuts.
SeekingSanity - fair enough, but the end of your post re: having to "put people down" that are less fortunate than them is actually exactly what I am talking about.
The Republicans offered to achieve the same revenue goals by removing loopholes in the tax code. Why can't we pursue that approach and see if it will work? I don't understand why the Democrats insist on the tax rate increase. Part of compromising is being open to other ideas on how to achieve results.
If the tax loophole removal approach doesn't work, then we can look at tax rate increases.
read any of seekingsanitys post. need i say more? all you do is rant against the right lol OMG!!!! all you do is call them names, all you do is glorify your side, all you do is belittle your opponents, all you do is rant against the right!!!
im am as far from right as i am as far from left and equally as far from middle but you wear your party loyalty on your sleeve. i have never mentioned my loyalty to any politician or party as public servants deserve no loyalty.
you again insult other posters like a true partisan.
SeekingSanity - actually, Feisty Redhead is exactly what I am talking about. And unfortunately, she's a ridiculously high post count-er
Hussein apparently didn't recognize that the body that initiates tax laws was overwhelmingly filled with Republicans, so his view of a mandate is entirely wrong. It may be true that there are a lot of voters that want my taxes to be increased so their life of subsidy can continue, but someday that will implode, which may be his goal (see the Cloward-Piven Strategy).
Bigmarine,
You more or less said that the Republican party needed to come to the middle and compromise. I think it needs to be both ways. But reading everyone's posts the "Hate" you also mentioned is not one sided it flows form both sides with venom.
The Democratic party is better at the "Hate" part from the post that I am reading and until we get it under control this country is lost. And until we can come together as people not as these preconceived notions of Republican, who don't care for any one but the wealthy and they want to gut the forests or Democrats, who want the government to take care of everything down to wiping their a$$...thanks to the Internet and some talk radio... talk to a Republican or a Democrat and find out what is important to them....you may be surprised...The problem is we tend to see the extreme or in some cases READ THE EXTREME.
Thats because it was still climbing genius. In January it was 7.8 - in Feb it was 8.3 OH NOES!!. You now argue semantics as if the following 2 months of continued job hemorrhaging caused by Bush was Obama's fault. You might be able to convince people with itty bitty minds of your stupidity but anyone with brains knows you are full of it.
And I will go degree for degree and IQ for IQ with you any day of the week my friend. Used to be able to do differential equations in my head. Lets dance.
Those poor kids you teach are really being robbed of their education if you are an actual teacher.
Feisty,
Clinton and Reagan also didn't do things like publicly say they were not interested in suggestions from the other party, or tell them to "go to the back of the bus".
In this instance, the Republicans offered an olive branch (revenue increases via tax loophole removals), and Obama basically attacked them. That is not how to build the trust and relationships needed to find solutions that are acceptable to both parties.
It would be one thing if only Republicans said they find it very hard to work with Obama, but I've heard the same complaints from plenty of Democrats. Even Bob Woodward wasn't very complimentary of Obama in his book.
Mike416 - whoa! throwing out the big guns! degrees and IQ challenges! Let me ask you something - have you actually had your IQ tested?
Also, I agree totally that Obama inherrited ahumongous rising unemployment rate. But what are your thoughts on the amoutn of money spent to get out of it vs the results, and what are your thoughts on the possibility that it might actually not have been Bush's administration's fault for the crisis that occured during his administration, just like it's not Obama's fault for the one that happened during his?
I love it when reps start talking about welfare people wanting help with their gas and water bills.
90% of the welfare in this country is paid to corporations! Almost as much is paid out in tax deductions to wealthy people hiding their money rather than re-investing it in American jobs! If businesses want to leave the largest market in the world - let them go. They will be crying to be re-admitted the next day.
As somebody who weekly works to help people with their gas, water and electricity. I can tell you - there is less help coming from the government than there was 10 years ago. People who complain about welfare for poor people have no idea what they are talking about.
Mike: I guess I need to explain it to you AGAIN!!
I said the unemployment rate is HIGHER now than when Obama took office and you told me I was wrong. So I sent you this link (http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000) and summarized the following:
Obama took office in January 2009 when the unemployment rate was 7.8%. His failed policies increased that and stayed at or above 9% for about 2.5 MORE years and last month, October 2012, the unemployment rate was at 7.9% which is MORE than the 7.8% when he took office.
It is really straightforward, logical, and factual so I don't understand how you can be arguing that? I made a factual statement and you said I was wrong. I showed you I was right and spoke about how anybody with the IQ at least 10 points above a turnip can easily see this. I really hope and pray that you can see this? PLEASE tell me you can see this!!
The view of mandate is " my way or the highway". I'm open to receive suggestions from Republicans...just leave it in the "suggestions box" outside the White House, make sure you agree with my view.High taxes for the millionaires and billionaires who make over $ 250,000. However Obama is not calling to close loopholes that allow GE, whose CEO sleep in the White House, GE pay zero, nada in taxes even GE outsource jobs to China. But GE gave Obama millions for his reelection in exchange for more "green for green energy projects"
notliborcon - it is funny that you talk about going back to the surplus days of Clinton, but remember that yes he did have a surplus but the dept of the country was not decreased (actually increased) because not one penny of the surplus was used to buy down the dept.

Source(s) please, not only for precisely which loopholes they have offered up but also for the President "attacking" them.
Again, please provide a couple of names from "plenty" of Democrats.
I don't understand how you think being disingenuous is going to earn you any credibility...
PS: Also noticed, you couldn't dispute one thing I commented on and instead chose to deflect! lmao
As always, you are entitled to your own opinion, however, they don't pass the *sniff* test when it comes to FACTS!
Go after Susan Rice?
I loved the smack down President Obama gave when the GOP in that "Clownish Keystone Cops" Police Car started interrogation on that Benghazi Susan Rice witch hunt blah blah. The President said you "Go after Susan Rice? “Then they've got a problem with me?"
Obama Pushes Back On McCain, Graham On Benghazi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki6uwCFWoSQ
This 2 bitter clowns should go sit down some where to think about working with our President and what's in store for them. Lindsey Graham with that flippant attitude will be a very, very, sad man. The Senate does not have the votes to deny Susan Rice confirmation; first of all!!!
McCain can't say anything about making a mistake for choices since he picked Sarah Palin.
All the GOP is proving is... why President Obama is more popular now than he was before. In addition to that, with the mandate people will stand with our President in 2014 to flush out the recalcitrant GOP/Tea Potty.
Love it!
Yes. Penn State 2002. Psychology majors wanted to run tests to see which discipline of engineering had the brightest students. It was electrical, mechanical and plastics (Im an elec eng). They tallied the results with the plastics engineers having the highest average IQ. They would not share the results with us until I bribed one of the students with a case of canadian imported beer. They used the stanford binet criteria in calculating.
Any other snide comments?
The Liberal/Progressive envy train just keeps on chugging along.
This "mandate" has absolutely nothing to do with fiscal responsibility or fixing the economy. This has everything to do with the ongoing class-warfare meme that Barrack Hussein is pulling over on the useful idiots who worship the seat he just sat on.
This is how statists indoctrinate the unwashed masses into the belief that they are incapable of taking care of themselves and the government will take care of them from the womb to the tomb. This is just a continuation of the "Life of Julia" cartoon that Liberlas/Progressives not only accept, they believe it.
Statists always appeal to the lowest common denominator. Barrack Husseins incessant demonizing of the rich to help the poor and middle class is strictly by design and to pander more votes. The reason is because it's easier to promise mediocrity than success. Elitists have never created wealth so their concept of commerce and prosperity only extends to the simple minded.
Have you ever heard Barrack Hussein promote the American dream as becoming rich?
Of course not.
Statists don't believe anyone but the Bourgeoisie should attain wealth and prosperity. This was plainly evident yesterday as he met with leaders of the criminal union cabal and the far left Liberal/Progressive elitists who espouse his ideology. I guarantee you none of their discussion was to promote the wealth, prosperity, standard of living and success we have become accustomed to being able to achieve.
Once again we're being lied to about Barrack Hussein "focusing like a laser" on the economy and jobs.
This pathetic attempt at appearing engaged in correcting the economy should be an embarrassment to any real American. This "symbolic" raising of taxes on the rich means absolutely nothing other than it is "symbolic". This is estimated to generate about $85 billion dollars a year. This will pay for about 8.5 days, as we spend about $10 billion a day. How will we pay for the other 356.5 days?
The OMB estimates that revenues as a percentage of GDP will be about 17.8% in 2013 and 18.7% in 2014. This is at historic averages. Obviously for the uninformed and illiterate unwashed masses this means nothing. Their only concern is to punish the mean, nasty, rich, fat-cats who they have been indoctrinated into believing are the bogeyman.
Liberals/Progressives have no concept of broadening the tax base, decreasing spending and massive waste or balancing the budget. Hell, they haven't passed a budget for 1,295 days. Only in the convoluted Liberal/Progressive mind does not having a meaningful budget to run the biggest economy in the history of man make sense.
If we simply return to the 2000 spending levels we would be well on our way to a balanced budget. Of course Liberals/Progressives don't care about that as long as their sacrosanct entitlements and social programs are preserved so they don't have to work too hard. Redistribution is much more important than sound fiscal policy.
It's amusing listening to the Liberals/Progressives demonizing the rich mean fat-cats but when their unsustainable entitlements and social programs are collapsing the first people they go after to continue to fund them is, the rich.
There is no plan to reform our criminal public education system, our dysfunctional progressive tax system, regulations, foreign monetary manipulations, monetary malfeasance, union corruption, an all-the-above energy policy. Instead the plan is to just tweak a few tax rates, fiddle with some "loopholes" and the illiterate electorate will be convinced everything is OK.
In the meantime the Congressional Budget Office estimates that Barrack Husseins program would raise accumulated red ink over the next decade from $3 trillion to an astonishing $6.4 trillion.
But not to worry, all that matters is that we make it look like we're doing something against the mean rich bogeyman.
That's all Liberals care about.
I saw exactly what you said. The inflection of your post was that the economy is somehow worse off now with higher unemployment than it was 4 years ago.
You can really stop trying to BS me. I called you out on your ridiculous post and you are back peddling. I aint mad atcha.
And since I have a few minutes to pass...
The causes of the crisis were relaxing banking regulations. Period. Once savings banks were permitted to utilize that money in an investment capacity - the ethics went right out the window. That deregulation happened under Clinton and a republican house and senate.
Bush further relaxed banking requirements by increasing leverage limits on banks allowing them to bring on more risk with less cash on hand. Yes - repub pres / congress.
Couple that with banks trying new crap (mortgage backed bundled securities) that were (and are) completely unregulated and you have what we saw in 2008. Contrary to what most "informed republicans" (oxymoron?) think- the CRA did not cause this mess. Go look up what it actually was. It was a tool to enforce FDIC insured banks to lend proportionally to minorities as they were represented in their communities. Thats it.
MSNBC-NBC NEWS lost it's satellite signal - TV, at 4:45 PM East Coast, what's up with that ?????????????
Mike: You might have an engineering degree but having a real difficult time trying to understand what I said. I said that the unemployment rate is HIGHER now than when Obama took office. You can speak "inflection" all you want. You can brag on engineering degrees all you want. You can spew your nonsense all you want.
But the fact of the matter is I said the unemployment rate today is higher than when Obama took office.
The unemployment rate today is 7.9%
The unemployment rate in Jan 2009 when Obama took office was 7.8%
So you are aware those little "dots" are called "decimal points" and are considered "tenths". So what those numbers mean is 7.9 is "seven and nine tenths" and the 7.8 is "seven and 8 tenths". Subtracting decimals are very simple: Put the 7.9 on top and put 7.8 below it. Then subtract the 8 from the 9 and put a "1" there. Then bring down the dot (also called a "decimal point"). Then subtract the 7 from the 7 which gives you a zero. So the answer of 7.9% minus 7.8% is equal to 0.1%. That means the 7.9% is one-tenth HIGHER than the 7.8%.
Solution: unemployment rate today is HIGHER than when Obama took office January 2009. Hopefully that helps you better understand that 7.9% is HIGHER than 7.8%?
Mike - just making a joke.
Also, after you got your high IQ score - did you tell them that a random small sample of the current students at the university, the major of whom was presumably greatly influenced by factors other than strictly ending up in an engineering discipline based on IQ, probably didn't prove much? haha just kidding.
Also, I wasn't trying to be snide. I assume most people on here haven't had their IQ test, including the person you said that to, so it would be a tough challenge to accept.
Mike - I actually agree with what you just wrote re: Clinton/Bush. However, the quote I was orignally responding to is "job hemorrhaging caused by Bush." Are you saying Bush literally caused it? Or just didn't stop it? And so did Clinton? Why not mention Clinton as a cause?
And if it helps, I'm in MENSA, so we can get along.
NOTE: To the GOP TeaBagHate Party, President OBAMA "RULES" !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The American people "Spoke" the teahaters "BLACKMAIL" will come to and abrupt End !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't really matter what Mr. Obama does. The end result will be that EVERYONE pays more taxes, or we all go down. What the President is currently proposing cannot possibly pay for his lofty programs, let alone pay down the deficit. Where does that leave us? Well since the poor pay no taxes, that leaves MORE taxes on the top 2% and MORE taxes on the middle class. This president, like every other Republican or Democrat, has no interest in reducing the size or scope of government. This will end when all of our debt is purchased by a country with more buying power......better start purchasing language lessons in Mandarin. Remember....the goal of government is to expand both in power and size. The goal of each American citizen should be to temper the government's control. We have not done so and now we will pay the price.
But not higher than it was 1 month later. The tone of your post in trying to paint a picture that we are worse off now than 4 years ago. In an attempt to sensationalize this and turn it into another dumfux news talking point. You aint that good.
So--4 years later and we're still blaming Bush, we're still name calling--BTW, calling patricia a b*tch and then claiming she's a hateful bigot is kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, but oops am I being racist by saying that? You liberals are absolutely, without a doubt, the most hateful people in this country. You've pushed and shoved and cussed and bullied everybody that's tried to make a valid point. And OMG--the economy is BETTER??? What planet are you living on??? Almost 50% of the people in this country do NOT agree with the current administration so I don't know why you act like this was a landslide election. He's a con artist and he knows how to play the game. And you liberals just suck it in like a sponge. We'll survive the next 4 years--maybe--if he doesn't push us over the cliff.
And after I post this and leave, I'm sure you will spew your venom on me. It IS like trying to talk to a brick wall. You see one point of view. You don't see the big picture. You don't engage in MEANINGFUL debate.
God help this country. It's more divided than ever and nobody even TRIES to see another point of view or even have civil conversation.
I hold Clinton responsible to an extent. The number of people who voted to repeal G&S in both the senate and house could have bounced it right back to him if he would have vetoed it forcing it into law anyways. Now he COULD have vetoed it... but he didnt. SO yes - he is partially to blame. And so are all of the congress people and senators.
But Bush I view more as complacent than anything. Just like everything else he did barring starting wars to
ouster Sadamliberate Iraq. Bush really thought the economy was motoring along with no issues. But Bush did fall into that repub de-reg mantra so I suspect he knew more than he let on.Patricia Paulson-A Mom Comment collapsed by the community
Ya know the funny part is that Patrica's parents and daughters will be collecting welfare at some point in their lives.... Patricia Paulson-A Mom we don't really care about your support because you will do hat the government proclaims just like the rest of us.... Obama is part of that 2% which will be taxed at a higher rate and still he moves foward with his idea (which is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong) in the coming.... Patricia Paulson-A Mom These people who get loans for education have to repay it or face serious consequences for repayment (which is garnishment of wages) by the government.... The seriously rich in this country are the ones who gets free money in truth.... Ya know ya didn't be so rude to Pigotry so excuse me for feeling the need to put you in your place.... And we are so sorry that 10,000 people applied for job but didn't get the position.... =]
And she got 200 votes up.... Now that somes up America today.... Even though welfare is easier to get started it is harder to keep it today....
Pssst... Marge, this is your idea of a meaningful debate? lol
Thanks, but if it's all the same to you, I'll take a pass on what your idea of a civil discussion is...
You do know how to win friends and influence people... though!
Keep up the great work, says more about the modern day GOP than we ever could! ;o)
PS: Anyone seen my buddy Ron?
Still waiting for some sources to back up his claims...
Why is this so difficult? lol
Your local neighborhood tea bagger takes that award. Sorry.
Obama won by 126 electoral votes. That is significant. That is of Clinton/Dole proportions. Remember the 90's?
Because you lost senate seats, lost house seats and got beat in the bid for presidency?
And Obama is a commie now? Commie? Really? Are you like a 100?
Let the tax cuts expire so all Americans can do their fair share. Then.... Let the I trillion in cuts take effect. There is nothing needed to be done. All these clowns on both sides want to do is play with the numbers. They just need to shut up and close our borders and fix that mess. If they made 10 million IAs legal that would be even more tax revenue at the Clinton rates. I just don't feel good knowing that the last 3 generations are going to stick their credit car bills to my grand kids. (someday)
The 47% should really be 30%.
Just last friday I was in the local mini mart and watched the lady in front of me buy a lotto ticket, knee high and a pack of smokes with her EBT card. She could surly make do with 10 bucks less a month.

not one time in any of your postings have you engaged in civil discussion with posters of differing views. you are the first to call people names and the first to use rhetoric. you are the equivalent of holding your ears closed and screaming 'lalalalala' till the others just give up.
the left does not want discussion, they want it their way as evident by their 'we won, you lost' attitude ONCE AGAIN. how can anything be civil when you gloat about things like that? leaders dont look down, they look towards.
our predicted end is soon near as the USA will fall by its own citizens.
Sorry Pal,
You can engage in the chicken little scenario and "fall", while I will STILL be STANDING!
Like I said, America will move FORWARD with or without the "hens" screaming the sky is falling....
Don't get out much... eh? lol
Which is precisely why President Obama shellacked the right wing @!$%#s last week!
PS: I hear Somalia is lovely this time of year... although I understand they also have a *gasp* black leader...
PPS: Don't think your personal attacks let you off the hook! Not YOU or any other member of the GNOP have been able to PROVE the Fox Noise talking points...
Polly want a cracker?
OBAMA: All that babblin' still don't make you right.
Lets look who voted for Obama:
95% of the blacks. 50% of them didn't graduate high school.
Latinos a bit more than 50% graduated high school.
Children of people on welfare, which number 49.7 million less than 50% graduated from high school.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR OBAMA.
Since the total of the black vote, welfare vote and Latino vote exceeded the vote for Romney, we know who and why they voted for Obama. They are uneducated, did not know or investigated the issues and demanded handouts that they are getting now.
The Latinos want the illegals legalized. The blacks who represent 1 out of 3 prison inmates want more handouts and the welfare still want to be on welfare.
The urgent need to get the illegals out of the United States and put legal residents to work is too much for the average unintellectual to understand.
After living abroad for many years and seeing dictators frequently quote vote totals for themselves of 95%, it is not hard to understand the blacks line up and vote by skin color rather than analyzing the positions and needs of the country.
And truly the dumbest one is Obama, right off picking a fight with the Republicans. He actually believes that getting into a political fight is going to get him something. Remember that in 2009-2011 Obama had both houses of congress democrat and couldn't do sh*t.
Go back through the last 53 years and you will find out that most of the years, congress was democratic and they passed the huge spending bills that got the U.S. in trouble.
Obama is wrong we are not on a fiscal cliff. We fell over many years ago. Now it is every man for himself. Obama admits he knows nothing about economics. He is a political stooge. A no nothing. Look carefully at the groups who put him in the white house. Hard to find any who are intelligent about economics and politics who can get this country back on its feet.
Check out how many democrats are millionaires and multimillionaires. They worked the system hard to steal all that money that should be in the government coffers. First thing that the politicians should do is take a 50% salary cut for during such a terrible job. Then cut, cut, cut. The debt is well ove 16,000,000,000 dollars and the first thing the budget has to do is pay the interest on the debt and that is over $600,000,000,000 every year.
I think that's a good idea.
I also like the idea of increasing taxes on luxury items such as yachts, mega-millionaire-mansions, and multi-million dollar diamond jewelry, etc.
I like the idea of raising taxes on the top 2% wealthiest because I think $250,000 cuts too close to small businesses.
What I DON'T like is the part where Republicans think if the starve the poor that will be all they need to pay back the trillions of dollars Republicans borrowed to finance that Lie Called the War in Iraq.
If Republicans had their way, there would be soup lines and bread lines so long you could see them from Space.
My dad who passed away several years ago had an idea that I would like to bring up and get your thoughts. To help fix social security and medicare, $ 2.00 for each professional sports ticket sold in the U.S. $ 1.00 would go into each fund. If a person doesn't want to pay the $ 2.00, then they don't have to buy a ticket. A person pays how much for a hotdog, pop, etc. How many people attend just one super bowl? How much money just that 1 game alone would that generate for the two funds? What do you think?
ofcourse1 ....
And you got your "stats" from where exactly? Would so love a source. You're not a credible one. Looked you up and nothing is published under your name.
I voted for President Obama. Why don't you tell me oh, great and wise seer of all which category I fit in?

Hmmmmm, correct me if I’m wrong but I imagine you still believe the governments “war on poverty”, which is just spending more money, is the solution to the plight of the poor. Right?
Since 1965, when good ole boy LBJ decided to declare war on the poverty state, we have spent over $17 TRILLION (estimates range btween $15 trillion and $19 trillion) and our poverty level has gone up. The recent poverty rate of 15.1% is skewed due to the current recession, which by the way we have allegedly been out of since June of 2009, it is actually about 14.3%.
So, for 47 years we have spent more than our current National Debt and our poverty rate has gone up.
This year the Federal government will spend a more than $668 BILLION on at least 126 different programs created to fight poverty. States and local governments add about $284 BILLION annually to fight poverty. Almost $1 TRILLION dollars is spent on poverty every year. This amounts to $20,610 for every poor person in America, or $61,830 per family of three. To put this in perspective our defense budget, including Iraq and Afghanistan is only $685%2
Mike: STILL having trouble understanding the concept of "higher". Yes it was higher the month AFTER he took office. And higher the month after that. And higher the month after that. Even further proof of the Obama incompetence because the unemployment rate continued to get higher and higher with every failed policy of the Obama administration.
However, I said the unemployment rate today is HIGHER than when Obama took office. No matter how you want to spin it that is still true.
Now, what I am surprised about is your inability to just admit that you made an error. I know in these threads making an error, and someone catching it, is embarrassing. I admit it has happened to me. But when it does I simply say "I stand corrected and you are right". Sometimes I take a "ribbing" but I ignore the ridicule. If you had simply said "I stand corrected" I would have had a great deal of respect for you and I, personally, would not have said anything further.
But your inability to simply say "you are right - I stand corrected" is exactly what this president does so I wouldn't expect anything different from his followers. Very frustrating when a person cannot simply say "I made a mistake - sorry about that" but STILL tries to defend the indefensible. Very sad.

(Please disregard my post at #1.177. I have no idea what the hell happened to it.)

Welfare spending increased under G.W. Bush and has since exploded under Barrack Hussein. Since 2009 federal welfare spending has increased by 41%, more than $190 BILLION a year.
So, less than a 1% increase in poverty, yet we have increased spending by 41% and we still have more than 46 million Americans living in poverty. A 47 year long war and we’re losing it horribly.
Obviously this approach hasn’t, isn’t and won’t solve the problem. Throwing TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS has neither reduced poverty levels nor made the poor self-sufficient. The biggest problem is our government. Seven different cabinet agencies and six independent agencies administer at least ONE anti-poverty program.
When you consider that a recent 5-year study by government auditors showed that 22 percent of all federal programs–costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually–fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve, the reason is obvious. I recommend you reread this study. Interestingly this oversight program, started during the Bush administration, was mysteriously eliminated by the Barrack Hussein administration.
Our government, time and time again, has shown that it is incapable of running ANY entitlement or social program efficiently or effectively, let alone affordably.
It’s time to reevaluate how we deal with poverty. Obviously the current Liberal ideology of just throwing more good money after bad is NOT working. We need to focus less on making poverty more comfortable and more on creating the prosperity that will get people out of poverty.
Instead of concentrating our anti-poverty efforts on giving poor people more food, better shelter, health care and so forth we need to reform our criminal Public Education system, stop unwanted pregnancies and get a job, any job, and stick with it.
High school dropouts are 3 ½ times more likely to end up in poverty than those who simply complete a high school education. Wages for high school dropouts have declined over 17% in the past 30 years. The days of an illiterate, unskilled, untrained worker earning a decent wage is gone, forever. Globalization, innovation, automation and decentralization has taken that level of productivity out of the equation.
Children growing up in single parent homes are 4 times more likely to be poor than in two parent homes. About 63% of all poor children live in single parent homes. Unwed pregnancy is a major source of social chaos in our society. The evidence is overwhelming that children raised in households headed by a single parent are much more prone to sexual abuse, drug abuse, crime, and divorce, for instance. Their health is poorer their academic achievement is poorer; their economic well-being is less than that of children who are raised in two-parent households. In every way, children raised in single parent households seem to have many more strikes against them as they try to get through life.
Only about 2.5% of full time workers are poor. Only 1.5% of part-time workers are poor as compared to almost 24 % of adults who don’t work. A major problem facing today’s workforce is that although six in 10 jobs lost during the Great Recession paid mid-level wages, the majority of new jobs created in the Barrack Hussein recovery, positions such as store clerks, laborers and home healthcare aides, pay much less, according to a new study by the National Employment Law Project.
The study covered jobs created from the first quarter of 2010 through the first quarter of 2012. Lower-paying jobs, with median hourly wages from $7.69 to $13.83, accounted for just 21% of the job losses during the recession. But they've made up about 58% of the job growth from the end of the recession in late 2009 through early 2012. Those jobs have been concentrated in three industries: food services, retail and employment services, such as office clerks and customer service representatives, the study found. In contrast, mid-wage occupations with median hourly wages from $13.84 to $21.13 -- jobs such as construction workers, real estate brokers, and data entry clerks -- have accounted for just 22% of the new jobs in the recovery after making up 60% of the job losses in the recession.
One other significant part of our culture that must change is to help eliminate poverty is to promote savings and the accumulation of wealth. Studies have shown that the path out of poverty is not through consumption but through savings, frugality and accumulation.
This is easier said than done. We have, over the past 50 years become a convoluted consumption/service-sector economy. Our greatest wealth, prosperity and improved standard of living was created when we had a balance of manufacturing and service. Today manufacturing accounts for about 10% of our economy.
As much as we want our economy to go back to what it was in the past, even before the 2008 collapse, it’s doubtful that will happen. In the past 50 years we have added 4 billion people to the worlds population that stands at 7 billion today. These people and their countries will create massive competition for jobs, but it also offers a tremendous consumer base.
Most importantly however is our education system. Not college or university, although important, but our K-12 system which has turned into an absolute embarrassment. The recent chaos in Chicago is a perfect example of how dysfunctional our system is. Students barely able to read or write and the teachers and unions are demanding more money and less work. This must end.
Poverty is the challenge our nation must address, our government needs to lead in some cases and it needs to get the hell out of the way in most other cases. Our wealth, prosperity and standard of living were built on the shoulders of industry, not government.
Contrary to Liberal/Progressive delusions conservatives do NOT want dirty air, dirty water, nuclear waste under your child’s bed, women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, more soup kitchens or a military base next to each Starbucks. What we DO want is Constitutionally limited government, a fiscally responsible representation, free-markets to determine winners and losers in commerce and less taxes so each American can prosper, save, invest and achieve the American Dream. America guarantees equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.
Really??? Now you're a secessionist?? Good for you. Tell all those Red states that they'll have to leech off of Texas for their welfare money.
The United States was never meant to have a government based on "state's rights." Our very Constitution was an 18th century version of a compromise between regional and national interests. State's rights was dominant in our nation until the 1830s, when President Andrew Jackson told South Carolina to hold its tongue or face hell with the Nullification Crisis. It then took a fatal stab during the Civil War, where the federalist Union defeated the states' rights Confederates, and has declined ever since. States' rights makes no sense; the United States would essentially turn into a banana republic if any state could hold up the entire political process. Just about every society based on regional interests instead of national demands (Holy Roman Empire, feudal Europe, Confederate States of America, etc) has either failed or existed only in the most unstable form. You might be an economics professor, my good man, but I reign here in history and political institutions.
No; the founding fathers were practical. They realized that a nation divided entirely by states and with no national unity would fail, thanks to their chaotic experience with the Articles of Confederation. But they also opposed a national empire where the states were essentially provinces who were led by federal cronies. That's why they created a compromise political system via the Constitution. Lately, the federal government has expanded its powers, in part due to growing constraints and America's rise in the world economically and politically. But the states have their responsibilities, like the preservation of their state parks, the administration of their services and public functions as a government, and the management of certain functions, like education and local infrastructure. States' rights had its chance during the Civil War with the Confederacy; unless you were sleeping in US History 101, you and every other states' rightist should know that it failed that test.
Are you kidding me??? Conservatives won't be happy because eventually liberals are going to branch off and beat them down the road, and they will have to rely on themselves for welfare money instead of the rest of the nation. Liberals aren't going to stand for the dissolution of the Union, and we'll have another Civil War. If it takes a civil war to establish that Obama is the President and that we are a united nation, then by God bring it on.
Apparently, conservatives are cowards and sore losers. They couldn't stand to get whipped by the Democrat they hated the most since Bill Clinton and can't stand to see him take all the credit for the nation recovering from the Great Recession. And so they're about to do what those slave-holding idiots did in the 1860s and secede. Well, at least they are going to have their asses handed to them. It won't be short, and it sure as hell won't be clean and pretty, but this nation shall be preserved as one.
If there has been class warfare in America, it's been waged by 30 years of idiotic supply-siders, deregulators, and Ayn Rand fanatics who think the wealthy ought to be the social class of power, instead of the middle class as envisioned by Aristotle.
Since when is the government helping people do things that they themselves can't do statist??? Since when is telling people that "you're on your own" while the wealthiest Americans leech off of the national economy an American ideal??? You bastards need to realize that the government has a role in our society and that scapegoating Washington D.C. won't solve all our problems.
The rich have benefited from 30 years of laissez faire economy while everyone else has gotten the shaft. Should we demonize the rich?? No; we should demonize whoever thinks feeding the wealthy tax cuts and legal loopholes is best for the nation.
This one is just bogus. The American Dream is not to become rich; only the most egocentric @!$%# would think so. The American Dream is to live in a place where you are valued not by skin color or physical attributes but by what you can contribute to this great nation and where you can be free to live your life without somebody else looking over your shoulder. THAT is the American Dream, unless you are a materialistic Ayn Rand fanatic.
We are not a prosperous nation; we haven't been prosperous since the 1960s. Ever since the 1980s, after the stagflating 70s, only the wealthiest Americans have become wealthier and prospered, while everyone else has either had their income and wealth stagnate or fall under. We may have had a prosperous time in the 90s, but that was a mere respite from the cold winter of the 1980s and the oncoming blizzard of the Lost decade under Bush 43. In order to achieve prosperity, we need to expand equality of opportunity, not shrink it. We need to allow poor and middle class Americans to have upward mobility, not determine social status via that of your parents. We need to have all Americans, rich and poor, old and young, to have equal rights and the same opportunity to prosper and succeed in society, not stacking the deck for the rich via tax cuts and deregulation and then bribing the rest of us with credit cards and demonizing us as moochers and socialists.
In case you haven't noticed, we won't have trillion dollar deficits forever. We have a cumulative deficit of around $7-8 trillion over the next decade, and repealing the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% will shave off 10-15% of that debt, which is a considerable sum. I say repeal the tax cuts for EVERYONE, so we can cut the deficit in half and then have a sustainable revenue source, and then we can talk about spending cuts and entitlements. But until we restore revenues to a historic average of 18-19%, spending cuts will not do a damn thing and are off the table, period.
No; being at 17% is below the historic average. Historic averages aren't necessarily a ceiling for revenues; hell, we could easily raise revenues to 22%, as I would advocate, by repealing the Bush tax cuts, fixing the AMT, and eliminating major deductions and loopholes.
Broadening the tax base WOULD raise taxes on the wealthy; and by the way, I have advocating for eliminating major deductions and thus broadening the base, along with spending cuts and balancing the budget. Hell, the last man to balance the budget was the liberal Bill Clinton, who raised taxes in the process. The last Republican to balance the budget was Dwight D. Eisenhower, who modern Republicans would denounce as a socialist.
Then we'd need to reduce the economy and the population to 2000 levels and freeze spending indefinitely. We'd also have to raise revenues considerably, up to 23% of GDP, in fact. I'm willing to fix entitlements and cut spending, but all that will do nothing without higher revenues. Just moving revenues to 21% will do a lot, and we could trim spending accordingly. And by the way, EVER tax code redistributes wealth, even your precious flat tax.
Actually, I have a reform plan for ALL of those, and I'm a "redistributionist Keynesian." I've actually put out a plan; where the hell is yours??? You demand reform; go ahead and tell us your plan. And by the way, demonizing Progressives and going to a flat tax doesn't count.
I'd like to see the proof for that. It also says that extending the Bush tax cuts will cost another $3 trillion over the next decade and that we need to cut spending AND raise revenues to balance the budget.
Jim, one of these days you ought to cut the crap and start proposing a plan of your own. A COMPREHENSIVE plan. I've done it more times than I can count; haven't seen ANYTHING from you. Until you tell ALL of us redistributionist Keynesians and Stalin-inspired pinkos what your damn plan is for fixing this country, you ought to just shut your mouth.
Freshiee, if you don't mind ...
Just had to pull that one out because it was so well-worded and true. I'd like to see a lot more facts from people like Jim rather than half-baked truths founded on the daily FOX points.
ProBuisness -- You claim to teach economics (BS) yet you seem to not understand why the unemployment rate went up. Here's a piece from the WSJ explaining it:
Then there is these reports you should read:
Colorado-Man . . .
Oh, I'm pretty sure the President of the United States knows that the body that initiates the majority of tax laws is Republican. Funny, they always want less government but totally fight tooth and nail to impose tax laws on all.
Pro,
Hate to burst your bubble, actually no I do not, but you cannot legally secede from the country. There is no constitutional right to do so, in fact it is quite the opposite. The Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional while commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession. In other words you either have to commit an armed revolt against the Federal Government or you have to have the blessing of all other 49 states.
All you idiots should just get over your inflated ego's. Many Democrats thought Bush was the worst thing ever but you did not see them raising the kind of crap you babies are. Suck it up, grow a pair, and evolve with the times.
Not sure why people are upset over taxes going up on the rich. Obama already gave the middle class the largest tax increase in history through Obamacare...most liberals are just too stupid to realize the shell game where he pulled it off.
They think they got something for free...nope....Tax and spend liberals...nothing ever changes. With all these tax increases they're pushing through, the debt will not reduce 1 penny. Good job liberals.
ProBusiness
Your assessment of our economy is just plain wrong. Microeconomic analysis really does not work for the economy as a whole. That is why there is macroeconomics.
The economy Obama inherited was declining at -8.5% in 4th quarter 2008 (initial figure was -3.5%, later revised upward to the -8.5% figure). We were losing jobs at 750,000 to 800,000 per month in 4th quarter 2008. These job losses continued through April 2009 and declined thereafter until the economy was losing less than 100,000 jobs per month in the 4th quarter 2009.
All of these 2009 job losses are attributable to the Great Recession of 2008-2009 which began in Jan 2008. You like to blame them on Obama, and this is where I question your credentials. You may teach economics, but you obviously choose to lie or do not understand macroeconomics.
As to your prediction on direction of economy 4 years ago. Did you anticipate the stimulus, the blocking of the 2nd round of stimulus in 2011, the Greek debt crisis? I think you just guessed.
Patricia Paulson-A Mom and NinjaCodeMan, you are both suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
bigdalton, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Patricia Paulson - though your words are not the most construction, you're message is spot on. Kudos for speaking up on a message board that is rife with hate from some of the loudest liberal supporters. I'm sorry you got suspended for the day - though, again...you could have found a less hateful way of getting your message across. Glad NinjaCodeMan was suspended, and I honestly don't know how Fiesty isn't suspended indefinitely for some of the hatred she/he spews here regularly (calling Ann Romney all kinds of nasty names on a previous article).
Back to the topic at hand - there is no mandate on taxes or anything else for that matter when barely 50% of the voters wanted to see Obama have a second term. All politicians need to get off their high horses and get to work on entitlement reform, tax reform, and get this economy and country back where it belongs.
Knock... knock...
where is everybody..other than a lonely pig (that's me - pigotry)??
It appears that you beat the trolls here Ms. Pigotry(Have you seen Fiesty lately...I'm missing her...)
I'm not sure that the republicans learned anything in this election... there seems to be a lot of knashing of teeth and hand wringing....and now they want to secede from the union... crybabies...
Just got back from my lunch break at the bar.
Who is Fiesty Carrottop?
Pigotry, we were watching President Obama's press conference start to finish.
I just can't wait till 2016 to say to all you mind boggled leftist's. "I ****ING TOLD YOU SO!" Every prediction I've made whether it be presidential or political disaster... I've always been right. I knew Obama was going to be re-elected. It's because people are too spun up on his fantasies. He may sound like Jesus to you libtards. But underneath that mask, is a distorted image. I predict. For all you silly fanatics who cannot be shaken from belief except under the best evidence. That in the next 4 years. You will slowly but surely notice that our country has been torn apart from within. Moral goodness of America as we know it will disappear. And people will panic and cause utter chaos. WW3 is in our midst and rapidly approaching. I cannot give you specific dates. But these events will and must proceed. It is human nature for us to fall and rise again.
LooLoo.ser-
Maybe in Republican fantasyland, where the 1%'ers are all 'job creators' and hire people out of the goodness of their heart, companies can lay off their workforce without sacrificing any sales or market share.
Here in the real world, companies hire people for cold hard economic reasons - they need workers to meet demand for their goods and services. Real businesses won't sacrifice sales and profit dollars to make a political point.
You think 'Papa John' will go out of business and sacrifice his mega-mansion to avoid having to pay an extra 15 cents or so per pizza to cover healthcare costs?
Obamapocalypse, if anything your party and constituents are driving us to the brink of disaster. YOUR party is filibustering at an unprecedented rate in congress, refusing to compromise, seeking only revenge and sabotoging any efforts at recovery, even if they were YOUR party's ideas in the first place (HEALTHCARE MANDATES, ANYONE?!?!) YOUR constituents are laying off thousands of people, simply because of their brainless, unfounded predictions of health care and oil costs. Gee, you and your party must be blessed with the gift of foresight if you can predict everything that's going to happen in the next four years! I guess if your plan is to sabotage the nation and everyone in it, just to prove a point, then I guess you'll get to be right (for once)--but you'll only have yourself to blame.
Its incredibly sad people cant realize that they have poisoned the watering hole. They fill the air with their rancorous verbal vomit and still wonder what went wrong. Obama won because people on the right have resorted to name calling and child like fits of rage. Case in point, read some of the comments above.
Calling a sitting president names, regardless of your party affiliation, its childish. It turns people off. Using highly creative (*sarcasm*) names like, Obammers, Obummer or calling people who align with the President, Libtards, Commies and Pinkos does not rally people to your side. The whole act reminds me of those immature kids on the playground making up rhymes to bully and ridicule others, "Fatty Fatty Boom-ba-latty Matty" (quote partially stolen from a Simpsons episode). "Yeah look at me, I can talk mad sh*t behind my internet pseudonym! I don't need my Cialis script anymore, being a tough guy make me rock hard!" Yes, elementary school hi jinks, ftw!
This behavior is disgusting. I'm guessing your mothers didn't have the sense to teach you better, that's ok though. Obamacare covers those preexisting mental disorders she has been suffering from. We can help her out, just like we can help you!
the republican party is a dieing party. maybe as soon as 2016, but certainly by 2020 the great state of texas will turn blue and then it's all over for the gop
obama only lost texas by 1.2 million votes. thats going away fast for the gop and then it's all over but the crying. the party of angry old white guys will be going the way of the wigg party very soon
yes we all know Obama won on welfare, birthcontrol, abortions, no jobs, lets not forget to give every mexicans that comes here illigally free citizenship, the difference between you liberal jackass's and republicans is we knew what whould happen if he won and you were too stupid to see it, companies laying off now, because if any of you had a brain in your head you could open a business and get all the write offs, but you rather have the government write you a check. No one has the right to think that a owner of a business show give up every thing they have worked for because of all you who would not work for a living, I make over $250 and I put myself through school and paid off my own school loan and paid for my own birth control. I do not owe any of you anything, try working for a living and get your heads out of your ass's and stop blaming the Replicans for everything, the Vietnam war we lost 50,000 soliders and you liberals drafted most of them, ask your buddy John Kerry he threw all his medals on the white house lawn and stood in front of Congress and protested, now you idiots are considering putting him in Clintons spot. Socialism enjoy it now for 4 more years but stop expecting averyone to pay for you, the only one that deserve help are the VETS and military families.
So Obama's margin of victory was "smaller" in 2012 than it was in 2008, and you declare they are a "dieing" (badly misspelled) party ? Apparently you were ASLEEP in Nov, 2010 when the Democratic Party got "shellacked" by the Republicans and the tea party !
conner: "the republican party is a dying party"
And the Liberals' beloved European, Australian and Chinese press is saying America is a dying country. Positive correlation.
Seriously, how can you argue it's dying when approx 1 out of every 2 people in the country voted for Romney? It was a higher ratio than in '08, and 10,000,000 people fewer voted for Obama this time around. I've always thought Obama was delusional and self-absorbed, but for him to claim a mandate given those stats is an insult to the intelligence of anyone who can think for her/himself...
Yeah in 2010 only 37% voted and that is not a mandate. President Obama becomes the first Democrat since FDR to win reelection twice with more than 50% of the vote each election.
The President beat Romney by 3,400,000 votes. McCain's 2008 totals were even higher than Romney.
I would think the people complaining about companies laying off ppeople would be pleased at this news, now a democrat can start a business, no problem, everything is in place thanks to the government, the employees that make the company go are ready to work for a democrat that has no problem not making a profit, sounds like a perfect time to get multiple democrat run businesses started to run a perfect society.
So losing by 126 electoral votes isnt getting your ass handed to you? 4 millions votes.
Go right ahead stupid companies trying to make a political point just because President Obama WON BIGGGG TIME.
I will target your slow response to your customer base and take market share from you, thus you will be the one out of business and i will have hired all your employees.
BE MY GUESS and make my day GOP business fools.
Obama won because he is the king of panderers. A few months before the election, Lets do partial amnesty for High School illegals, Check, got the hispanic vote. Lets castigate the Catholic Church some more and claim they hate women, check, got the woman vote. Let me just show my face, check, got the black vote. Mention anything regarding civil rights, check, got the hippy/yuppie/PC vote. That is how Obama stole the election. He lied and then used his office to STOP enforcing US law to pander to a group he needed votes from to survive. And the tards all ate it up.
@Job1 #2.13, Obama has not been "reelected twice". Put down the bong, term limits exist now.
@Mike 416, Yes, I know what the "electoral votes" say but the popular vote for Obama was substantially reduced this time ... even with the apparent voter fraud in Philadelphia where Romney "magically" received no votes at all in something like 59 voting precincts !!! The odds of this happening in one precinct is "slim", and then to multiply that by ALL the other precints ... in unison ..... well it simply blows the statistical probability chart right past planet Uranus !
Obama has yet to talk seriously about reducing government spending other than "GUTTING" the defense department budget !
Vickie Brown - your post proves so many points but above all it proves the radical right is lacking intelligence as well as character; class; common sense; and integrity. Thank you for proving it so well!
Bush beat Kerry by less electoral votes than Obama beat ROmeny and you people called it a mandate.
Really sick of pointing out peoples stupidity today. Try google ffs.
http://www.phillyelectionresults.com/
Romney got 14% of the vote. More reading. Less Fox News.
With more than 50% of the popular vote, and 60% of the electoral vote, President O has the mandate.
The idea that "the People" think Obama should "tax the rich" to help eliminate the deficit and national debt only demonstrates two things...that Obama supporters absolutely suck at math and that Obama thinks because people voted against the right-wing religious nutjobs that somehow they want him to tax more, not spend less.
The idea of "tax the rich" solving our problems is absolutely ludicrous to anyone with basic math skills. This is pure class warfare rhetoric and nothing else.
What do you think would be more beneficial to our budget...increasing the tax rate on less than 4 percent of Americans by 3 percent or increasing the tax rate on ALL Americans by 3 percent...? I think the rich "pay their fair share"....because I think that those who don't pay any federal income taxes are absolutely NOT paying their fair share.
Raise taxes on EVERYONE....that's 100 million Americans, not just the top 4 percent of Americans and then and only then can you say everyone is "paying their fair share". If you aren't paying federal income taxes, you shouldn't get to whine about someone else not paying "their fair share" without a punch in the mouth.
And if you can't even get to 51% of the popular vote, you shouldn't be blathering on about a "mandate". Winning an election by 2 1/2 percent of the popular vote is nothing to be chatterboxing about how "the People" have given you a clear indication of anything.
TO: J R Browenstein who wrote:
Do you know anybody else in this country that has any money EXCEPT for the rich?
Of course we know that spending is going to be cut significantly, but you can't pay back money that was borrowed from China with a "spending cut" and a "spending cut" doesn't generate "revenue" it just stops spending.
I personally cannot stand a tax increase. My tax obligation is already at 50% of everything I earn, so if you take any more money from me I'm going to HAVE to become a 47%er just to eat.
I would ask why Republicans don't understand the wisdom of taxing multi-billionaires but hey, I don't want to hear that one about "fuzzy numbers" again. It was pathetic enough when Republicans said it the first time.
TNSEVOL You are the prime example of the unintelligent and undereducated. There is no heart and soul in business. Where did you get that. IT IS ECONOMICS! The bakery that makes twinkles and all that food will no longer exist after this week end. The unions are putting it out of business. Hostess opened their books to the unions which said so what. The unions rather have the companies do under and put their people on welfare than be reasonable. They know that every year Obama is going to feed them 3 Billion dollars of tax payer money and pay off the bosses who don't give a damn about the workers.
The DJIA index is down over 600 points since Obama got elected well beneath 13,000. And there are a hell of a lot pension funds and employee funds in that. For all you ignorant non economists out there even though the DJIA went back to 13,000. That doesn't mean for one second that the market returned to pre Obama heights. There is a little rule that prices double every 8 years. Go to the price calculator and put in $1 in 2008 and see its purchasing power in 2012. So 13,000 on the DJIA today is not at all like the 13,000 in 2008. Obama is a uninformed, ignorant political hack. His coalition to win the presidency was made up of pay-me-off Latinos, racists uneducated blacks, and welfare people who demanded handouts.
By all means never elect a successful white person who knows economics, is intelligent, educated and knows what he has to do.
Scream, yell, congratulate yourselves when you realize you are already in free fall off the cliff and there is no safety net. Piggy try and get some education. Obama put together the votes just as Chavez did in Venezuela. Businesses create jobs when they see that they need people, the economy is not down the toilet and when the political hack in charge who doesn't know what he is doing is removed.

Right.
Just like you couldn't wait for Romney to be elected president, but that ain't gonna happen either.
It's simple, Republicans in the House, either get off that pledge of not raising taxes on the wealthy or kiss your job goodby in 2014. We start the Dump the Republican Fund soon. Mr. President, if the Republicans don't get off their pledge, then let us go over the cliff. End of story. We will take care of business in 24 months.
As a percentage of the population, Obama won by a greater margin than, Kennedy, Nixon, Carter or any bush.
This election was a blowout.
For frame of reference all you guys complaining about Obama's second term and how it is going to be Armageddon. You all said you were going to win the election and you were 100% absolutely sure of it. Why should we believe you about this?
With John "Toonces" Boehner driving, anything can happen....
I hate to break this to you but multi-billionairs are already paying taxes. In fact, they pay about half of all federal income taxes paid. Yes, the top 1% pays more in taxes than the other 99% combined.
I think we should ask the people who don't pay any federal income tax to start ponying up some dough if they think that they have the right to demand that anyone else needs to start paying "their fair share".
He campaigned on it, the polls reflect it, and that settles it!
BS. There was enough voter fraud in Ohio alone (touch screens that voted for Obama regardless of what which button you hit) to over turn the election, not to mention Virginia, Florida, Arizona and California, where you got Illegals into the voting booths. That why you democrats fought against picture IDs for voting.
Ok patricia take away Ohio, HE STILL WON. WAKE THE HELL UP.
Source puhleeze!
Cause the documented cases were the exact opposite for Romney!
Settle down and come the realization President Obama is going to serve for another 4 years...
The train is going forward whether or not you are on board!
@Patricia Wake up! The Dems won and the U.S. Voters have spoken loud and clear- FORWARD--
Patricia
Please go to www dot m-w dot com and look up the work citation.
Then provide some citations to back up your party parroting drivel.
The ONLY voter fraud that has been identified so far was committed by Republicans.
Dem's fought voter ID laws that constituted an illegal poll tax . . . and won those cases in courts, cases heard mostly by Republican judges.
Feastly, is your feedbag empty. FORWARD off the cliff!!! If Obumbles says he got a mandate, does this mean he is gay???
Patricia people like you are everything that is wrong with this country and why nothing gets done. You are nothing but a racist. Go back to your cave please.
Patricia, you're denial runs deep. Consider therapy and anti-psychotic medication.
Patricia ...
Where have you been hiding the past few months? I would have remembered your posting "style!"
Seems to me the only voter registration ID issues during the ELECTION (which is over by the way) were perpetuated by Republicans.
NOT ONE STEP BACK!!!
I hope the Dems grow some between their legs and deal with the GOP exactly as the GOP have dealt with them--"my way or the highway." Do not compromise with them ONE IOTA. If we fly over the fiscal cliff, then we do and the GOP caused it.
The democrats compromise and compromise, and what do they get for it? nothing. We will see who cries wolf first when sequestration affects all the military/defense contractors sucking on the teat.
NOT ONE INCH!
Yeah, Obama's election was a mandate against voter ID! Get over it, everybody!
Fesity said "sources," LOOOOSER . . . . not "garbage & unfounded rumors."

*Jeopardy Music still playing*
Still trying to locate a valid source... eh?
I voted for Romney, Patricia, and I can tell you right now that there is no big conspiracy like illegal voting booths. Now I will agree that Democrats as a whole fight against picture IDs (and literacy tests) but because those who would then be unable to vote are the ones who are voting Democratic. That might not be true all the time but for the most part it holds up.
Obama won, good for him, not let's get our deficit down. I don't care who's running and from what party as long as progress is made to make this country better. We think we are on top of the world but in fact we are the most arrogant and selfish people in the world. We need to get over ourselves and start making some sacrifices for the greater good. People who are on welfare need to step up and become part of the work force and those of us who make more money should cough some more of it up to help the rest.
Personally, I wish the professional athletes in this country would help out a bit. I heard a statistic not too long ago that stated if all NFL and NBA players (based on an average of money made) were to give up 5% of it to the national debt we would be caught back up in ~5 years. That might not be 100% accurate but you get the point.
Rock on Patricia, they libs like to say how much they care...... but don't expect THEM/DEMS to open their wallets.Lets ask for ALL cabinet players to show their tax returns for the last five years and see how "they" were taxed.Or perhaps how much "they " gave to charity.(Oh and Obamas re-election fund doesn't count)I've ALWAYS had to show my DL when I went to vote, WOW is that because I'm being profiled??Or because thats how you vote.Show you voter reg. card, show your ID and sign on the line to get a ballot.( Oh and yeah, it helps if the vote a person makes actually is counted by the machine, not auto placed to the cheater.)The polls reflect NOTHING,the current group in Washington made lots of $$$$$$$$$ with Fannie, Freddie, and Green energy unsuccessful companies.LOL!!This admin. is a bunch of lying crooks and the whole darn world knows it.Oh and if you trolls out there have an issue, too fricking bad, maybe thats why 33 states are filing to secede. We are sick and tired of the BS.
Please don't feed the loser, he's a multiple re-reg of JollyOldSoul1 along with a slew of others & been reported to the moderators... ;o)
Yes the majority reelected the President but the house is still controlled by the oposition party so that dpoesn't settle it. A compromise is where both sides give something to get an agreement. The President has indicated he wanted taxes on all above $200,000 to go back up. What has he given to motivate the oposition to compromise and give him that?
These "voter fraud" people are incredible. In 2000, Al Gore won the popular vote, and should have won the electoral vote, yet a partisan Supreme Court gave the election to W. Biggest theft in politics in 50 years.
Yet now, all these zany conspiracy theorists insist that there must have been fraud for Obama to win a second term. Nevermind that his opponent was a lying, flip-flopping crack pot who NO ONE really liked. And what was there to like? A war on women, a war on immigrants, a war on the middle class all so Thurston Howell III and his wife could live in the White House and dole out more welfare to corporations and millionaires. Everyone saw through it, and everyone knew what was coming.
These people who are rabid over ROmney are so for one of 4 reasons: 1) they cannot stand having a half-black president; 2) they have the delusional belief that they too will one day be super-wealthy and somehow benefit from it; 3) they are mormon; or 4) they are part of the 1%. Patricia, I doubt you fall into the latter category.
There is no mandate to do anything from this last election. There was enough voter fraud in key sections of key states that makes one wonder if the regime in charge is even more illegal than it was before this past election. The blame Bush strategy is getting old and in the end 0-bama is going to have the legacy of worst POTUS for job creation, Unemployment and the list goes on and on. I don't care what the stupid red head says because I have long had her on ignore - so I don't have to see it.
Half of the People spoke, and quite a bit didn't bother with the choices of the lessor of two evils, the rest of us get to watch in disgust as America's Burning, because these Policies will not work ! And as they are shoved down our throats,The Republicans will get the blame for their failure anyway,So the Smart ones will plan to care for their Family's and Friends who saw this coming, during the riots and job losses and wars Obama drags us into because we will get attacked by Terrorists and have a weaker Military thanks to Sedition, lets hope we all ride out and live thru the Missteps of this Incompetent, Impotent Government we are now saddled with.I pray they work and everyone will all hold hands and sing united but that's not the outlook Im afraid, and just flat out Afraid for my kids and if they will get to grow up and have America still be America of grow up at all.
Again, please provide valid sources for your accusation?

Yep...sure are a lot of unbiased news sources sending out that information. I'm sure we should trust these reports since they so often base their news on reality. I guess some people will look for anything that might back up their paranoid fantasies...and of course if they can't find it they'll make it up. That's what sore losers do.
Here is the original source of this story:

And here is the confirmation that this is a b.s. story...
Here is a comment from that story stating how these numbers are bogus; but don't take his word for it, look up the official

LOL, unbiased. WND? FOX? Alex Jones? Hahahahaha....omg that was a good one. I didn't know this was a jokes forum!
sorry, missing links... here is the source of the story.

keep blaming voter fraud. keep making it harder for people to vote. that just increases dem turn out. the fact is the majoru=ity of voter fraud is committed by the gop. thats a fact
voter fraud did'nt cost the gop the election. your constant attacks on women and minorities. your save the rich at the cost of the middle class, your block everything in the do nothing congress, you only policy of more tax cuts to be paid for by cutting medicare and social secuirty. thats what cost you the election.
this is a center right country. but the gop is a far right party. and as long as they are you will continue to lose the cathlic vote, the jewish vote, the women vote, the hispanic vote, the younger peoples votes
but hey, you will still have the angry old white guys to try and sell the idea the elction was stolen from you to
There Feisty- now will you please tone down your stuff? Straight off of NBC for ya...might not be voter fraud, but it sure stinks, regardless of who it hurt. You need to quit stomping your foot with false indignation and learn to respect people. Goodness- makes me ashamed to be a redhead.
"The issues include nearly 1,000 unaccounted-for ballots were found in a Lauderhill warehouse and ill-trained poll workers who appeared to be overwhelmed by the amount of voters who turned out on Election Day, the newspaper reported."- since the forum wants to delete my attachment...
why won't this newsfeed show my post with the link? it is, after all, an NBC story? amazing.
"People who are on welfare need to step up and become part of the work force and those of us who make more money should cough some more of it up to help the rest."
Problem is, we here this crap from Buffet, Michael Moore, etc., ...and now you....we just don't ever see you getting your checkbook out and putting your money where your mouth is.
Try telling someone instead of going to the movies, going out to eat, buying an extra 12 pack they should send that money to the government because it needs it, you know, putting their money where there mouth is, and see how far that goes.
Wow, that would have swung the tide in Romney's favor! Those sort of incidents happen in EVERY election, which is why statistically close votes require recounts.
All of these claims of voter fraud are proven to be empty rhetoric because the final results matched very closely the results projected by those pollsters who had rigorous methods.
Republicans - do you really believe the 'voter fraud' was manipulated to match exactly the 'liberal bias' and 'over sampling of Democrats' of the polls?
Un-freakin-believable!!
CHZHEAD2004 - Put a space in between the "http" thing and it may take. I used to have to do that too.
AND TNSEVOL - See the link at #3.26 above

THE TABULATION SYSTEM (GEMS) PROVIDES VOTER TURNOUT AS EQUAL TO THE TOTAL CARDS CAST IN THE ELECTION DIVIDED BY THE NUMBER OF REGISTERED VOTERS. ALSO NOTE THAT SOME VOTERS CHOSE NOT TO RETURN BY MAIL THE SECOND CARD CONTAINING THE AMENDMENTS
Ummmm...YUP!!!!
Any excuse to keep from accepting the reality of they got their asses handed to them!
Then again, these are the very same people who up until 10:00 election night, actually believed they were going to win via a landslide! LMFAO
I would be bitter too if I was mislead the way they were...
Keep on floating down the River of Denial!
PS; Notice not a ONE of them has been able to back up the BS?
Forget just Ohio. Take away Florida, Virginia, AND Ohio, and Obama still won with 272 electoral college votes.
And speaking of mandates, here are a few historical examples and the winner's percent of the popular vote:
1968 Richard Nixon - 43.42%
1976 Jimmy Carter - 50.08%
1980 Ronald Reagan - 50.75%
1992 Bill Clinton - 43.01%
1996 Bill Clinton - 49.23%
2000 George W Bush - 47.87%
2004 George W Bush - 50.73%
ALL of these winners claimed a mandate, and the opposing party did not deny that they had a mandate.
But of course the Republicans always make an exception where Obama is concerned, pathetic hypocrites that they are.
Patricia lives in that Republican Cult Bubble in which facts don't get in. Bottom line the Black Guy won and their is not a darn thing these Bubble people can do about it.
And incidentally, there are still several million provisional and absentee votes, mostly in blue dominant states like California, that are not yet counted. Obama's total margin of victory will probably end up being about half to a million more than what it is right now.
We see that Theresa-1389179 is another one of the Bubble people. Also, a few thousand racist in 33 states wanting to secede just doesn't work.
Source please, there were some voter machines that malfunctioned, but they were recalibrated. And they malfunction on both side. Some were defaulting to Romney, some to Obama. The number of malfunctions was really very small. Poll workers advised voters to double check before they submitted their votes after they were made aware of the problem. Nearly all mis cast ballots were corrected before final submission. If you are smart enough to double check your work, then you get what you earned.

"And incidentally, there are still several million provisional and absentee votes, mostly in blue dominant states like California, that are not yet counted. Obama's total margin of victory will probably end up being about half to a million more than what it is right now."
Don't count on it. Here in very-blue Washington State, the absentee ballots have been showing a higher Republican ratio vs the ratio of votes counted as of Election Day.
To bad republican racist you lost we are going to TAX THE SH!T OUT OF THE GREEDY RICH....END OF STORY!
Get use to it.
We are taking our country back from the rich. And I hope you lose a hell of a lot of sleep.
Hahaha - TTTH posts info wars as a credible source. The comment above, on that supposed holy grail of an article, pretty much sizes up the non-troversy. Imagine that, another right-wing non-troversy. When will it stop?
Solutions539,
Too bad you greedy, racist Liberal, approx 1 out of every 2 voters in this country didn't vote for your guy or your party.
You're surrounded by them. On the streets. In the elevator. They're all around you.
And it's a safe bet they're better armed, so they have no intention of getting used to it. They won't stand for your hate-spewing, envy-consumed, you-have-something-I-don't-that-can't-be-fair aspirations. You can't take your "country back," because you never had it in the first place.
Yes, Voter Fraud. That's why Nate Silver's weighted polls precisely described the election results. That's why the week before the election, all the polls pulled in line in the states and nationally for Obama. If there was voter fraud, some 20 polls would have had a significant deviation. Voter Fraud = Sore Losers
The only mandate that I see is the masses are using their right to vote to redistribute wealth. Either that, or people just saw the President as the lesser of evils.
The election is over, the race has been called, Obama won, Republicans lost. No amount of hoping for absentee ballots favoring the GOP is going to change that fact. Taxes on the wealthy are going to increase - threatening with guns is not going to change that.
Solutions....what exactly is it that you think you're going to take back when the Rich close up shop and leave? Better beat your keyboard into a plow.......it's back to farming.
I see obama is back to expounding on the fair and balanced approach again. I wonder exactly what discretionary programs obama will put on the block and I wonder what which entitlement programs he will correct? He has already screwed seniors by cutting over $700 billion from medicare to give to obamacare... He probably wants to throw seniors further under the bus with SS. Obviously he will expand medicaid so that all those who can't afford obamacare still has medicaid.
If obama and others were realists and really interested in the common joe's future the obama (bush) tax cuts should expire across the board as well as the payroll tax cut come 2013. All that the poor sap is doing is pushing (and increasing) what our kids and grandkids will have to pay down the road.
If the CBO and others are accurate in what they are predicting, obama will have effectively and single handedly doubled our national debt in his 8 years. No way can crazy joe say that what obama wants to tax the wealthy for the next 10 years (dreaming about $1.6 trillion) will pay down our ever growing debt, interest maybe....?
No threats, just observations RedDevPS. Don't presume I'm at either extreme of the political spectrum. I'm certainly not wealthy, so a tax increase on the wealthy won't affect me directly. But I do work for a company that gets a lot of its revenues from the more affluent members of society. And I'm certainly not naive enough to think they won't make spending adjustments to offset their higher tax payments. So as revenues take a hit, I'm sure we'll be facing significant layoffs next year - appears inevitable at this point.
So you say, "Taxes on the wealthy are going to increase." I say, "so what?" Given most of the increased tax revenues will not go to U.S. job creation, but rather to make interest payments to Chinese holders of our national debt, I don't know why you get so excited about it. Also, the revenue increase will be short-lived. The affluent always find a way to shelter their property, even if it means investing it outside the U.S.
Eliminating all deductions for the top 1% only accounts for 10% of our annual spending deficit. Reality is, taxes are going to increase for everyone across the board, not just the wealthy, and threatening with anything is not going to change that.
The Chinese do not hold the majority of our debt - not even close. At last look, they only hold about as much as the Japanese, and together they aren't close to Europe. The largest holder of our debt is ourselves.
But hey, let's continue repeating the Limbaugh and right-wing media lies, doom, and gloom, and be afraid of the Chinese.
TimeToGetAClue what did the political hack Obama win? A country that in four years, he deeply divided. An economy that is in the toilet? A country so deeply in debt that it is no longer worth saving? A country with almost 50,000,000 on welfare?
A business community so against him that they will no longer believe his lies?
Unemployment that is going to shoot through the roof?
Real take home pay that fell almost 20% in the last four years?
What is the naked emperor going to have as his kingdom?
Are you really better than you were four years ago? Who refused to try to put in a pro western government in Iraq?
Who doesn't know that spending millions of dollars every day in Afghanistan is not going to change anything? The Afghans are going to stay as corrupt as before, going to send tons of heroin to the U.S. and are going to do as they please just the same as they did before the war. He should carpet bomb the areas and then take everything out. It is senseless to continue a war that has no goals.
But pass the buck, political hack Obama knows nothing.
RedDev, I think you're working off stale numbers - China is the largest foreign holder of the national debt, and foreign holders now account for 46% of the total national debt, up from 40% a couple years ago. And that % is continuing to grow.
I was simply using China as representative of foreign holders of our debt.
Seems too many focus primarily on sticking it to the rich, and miss the much bigger picture. Even Warren Buffett seems to be losing it in his old age. He just made comments that the U.S. boomed in the '50s when tax rates on the rich, and corporate rates were much higher. He conveniently left out the part about the U.S. having very little in the way of international competition in the post-war '50s, or the fact that few actually paid at those high rates because there were much bigger tax avoidance loopholes in the tax code in those days (it was Reagan's '86 tax reform that closed some of the biggest loopholes).
Reality is everyone will be paying much higher taxes, the math doesn't work otherwise - anyone who thinks otherwise has truly got their head in the sand.
The tax rate Romneyhood pays is normal for those in the stratosphere of incomes. Here is something from a college professor who paid 16%.
So I repeated Warren Buffett’s experiment here at Wharton. And it appears that I’m paying lower taxes than the administrative staff in my department. And if it is true here, I suspect the same goes equally for most folks in the top 10 percent of income earners. (Incidentally, according to Piketty and Saez, around half of all income in the U.S. goes to those of us in the top decile — roughly anyone with a family income of six figures or more.)
Warren Buffett’s approach to casual empiricism is quite instructive. He just took a survey around the office of people’s average tax rates, finding that he paid the lowest share. Here’s a thought:
Why not run a similar survey in your own office, or among your circle of friends? It will be interesting to learn the extent to which Warren Buffett’s findings generalize.
Taxes, Warren Buffett, and Paying My Fair Share - NYTimes.com
Sorry Rob - you aren't getting off that easy. First of all, this point
was not what you said in your original post. You said all our tax increases will go to pay off the Chinese. The Chinese hold $1T in debt, about the same as Japan, but no where near what we owe ourselves. My data is not outmoded .. however, your talking points are.
Of course, true to the right-wing cause, you throw this little gem:
Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in the history of the nation .. you do see that, right? He did it with the help of his fiscal whiz-kid Greenspan by raising Social Security taxes, decreasing taxes on the rich, and hiding his deficits behind the windfall of the SS taxes. That so called tax reform did nothing but benefit the rich at the expense of everyone else. The disgusting piece of puke that is Reagan used Social Security as a way to convince people we needed to raise SS taxes to keep the system ongoing when nothing could have been further from the truth. SS was solvent, remains solvent, and will continue to remain solvent. Ever notice how SS only appears to become insolvent when greedy Republicans want to grab all that money for personal gain. Well, that is Reagan-nomics - the trickle down theory that doesn't hold water. Capiche?
KJNC,
Don't you know dude?! Those one Black Panther thug scared off all the innocent little Conservatives with this Black Power from the one polling place in Ohio costing them several hundred thousand votes! /MASSIVE SARCASM
This whole "Fraud! Fraud!" nonsense from the Conservatives is a yak trying to pretend it can fly by jumping off of a cliff. Fox/Rush/Hannity say it and it comes out of their mouths like they were programmed to do. They believed all of the bull@!$%# numbers Fox, Gallup, and Rasmussen put out there and got hammered. By the way Cons Rasmussen and Gallup were the least accurate polls of this election cycle. God that is music to my ears after hearing all of the BS about how Ras and Gallup were right and every other poll was +9 dem from oversampling.
That was total crap anyway, the populations of those states actually were more democratic responding.
RedDev,
You can make up all the "facts" you want, but it doesn't make for reality. If you were correct regarding the '86 tax reform, total tax revenues from the top 1% as % of GDP would've declined. However, it's steadily increased - now it's higher than it's ever been. But that's not enough for you, is it?
Perhaps this will illustrate the point. Let’s be generous and say that federal taxes last year were 16 percent of GDP.
The IMF (2011 report) says that to cover expenditures the USA would have to raise federal taxes immediately and in perpetuity by 15 percent of GDP (i.e. last year would need to have been 31 percent of GDP federal).
The rich (upper 1%) produce income equal to 9.2 percent of GDP. What is the maximum that they could be made to pay? 6% of GDP? That implies approximately an additional 3% of GDP in tax revenue (they do already pay taxes, after all). Not enough to cover the 15 percent needed.
The upper 5% ($180,000 cut off) produce income equal to 12.3% of GDP. Still not enough.
Go down to the top 20% ($100,000 cut off) and take 53% more of their household income in taxes. That might just do it.
Even granting the other sources of potential taxing, do you think that Obama and those around him have really done the math?
John Persons,I also voted for Romney but I agree with you.Our deficit needs to be fixed a.s.a.p. so that our country can move forward into a stronger economy which will benefit all Americans.
I'm in 2%. Of course, I don't want to pay more taxes, but I will do it because I think it's fair. We still have it way easy compared to Europe - their taxes are higher (though, they have good health insurance).
I don't give a @!$%# how they do it in Europe! As for you 2% who want to pay higher taxes, GREAT, shut and DO IT. You don't have to take any deductions and you can write a check to US Treasury for ANY amount you want. So GO FOR IT. Again, keep you paws off my wallet.
Patricia when need Patriots like Armen, not you. This country is in trouble started decades ago. We need to change the me..me..me attitudes like you.
Patricia You reallyyyyyyyyy need to take your Meds.............
@ Patricia- Yeah, heed the call- We need to change the attitude-
Gosh, what a great example you are to your kids. I'm assuming you have some "a mom." Angry and cussing, that's the way to get things done. 60% of the people that voted indicated in exit polls that taxes should be raised on those making over $250,000. Have you ever heard of the word compromise? These GOP should be ashamed of themselves. I was distraught both times Bush won election, especially in 2004. But, never did I think about leaving this great country or calling people names that voted for him. I am an intelligent educated women. I can argue my points without resorting to calling people names or cussing at them. Trickle down economics does not work! What don't you get? For 12 years the rich have gotten tax breaks, how did that work for us? If they had to pay more taxes, maybe they would invest in their businesses and their people. I have barely gotten raises in the last 10 years because I have been told "I need to do my share" because of the economy. However, the CEO's of these large companies have gotten an average of 27% raises on their already bloated salaries every year and huge bonuses that they don't have to pay very much tax on. When the taxes are at a high rate, they would rather put it into their company then give it to the government so they start paying people more, investing in new technology, and any other expense they can so they don't have to pay taxes on it. If they want to leave, good for them. I'm sure there are others waiting to open shop. Honestly, I wish a lot of them would leave. I think they are the drain on the economy.
Patricia ...
Meltdown in aisle one of crazy conservative paranoia-ville!
Wow!
And kudos to you for that attitude.
I think it's a very simple math equation: if you are one of the top 2-3% of the population (any population) and you have the access/control over 97-98% of that entire population's assets and wealth, then you should be held up to providing 97-98% of the tax basis necessary for the efficient functioning of society. Those in the category of only having access/control of that 2-3% can only be required to provide 2-3% of the needed financial base, as we have no access to more, because, historically, those at the top make sure to keep it all to themselves, vis a vis eliminating all programs to help those less fortunate build the skills to go on to bigger and better things.
Armen, we appreciate it.
Patricia, your are the problem.
Wish there were more unselfish people like you out there Armen.
Armen! Congratulations! And modest, too!
Armen..
BULL. For you to even come here pretending to be in the "2%" is beyond laughable. What is even funnier is the idiots that believed you.
No one making MANY millions of dollars a year would be hanging out here, they would pay people about 50 times what you actually make a year to do it for them.
ALL economists that have crunched the numbers have already stated clearly that even taxing that top 2% at the very maximum level would amount to less than a fraction of 1% of Obama's current "over the budget" spending. It wouldn't even pay the interest.
The whole tax issue was nothing more than a smoke screen meant to suck in the votes of the lazy and the uneducated and it seems that it worked.
Now you have to deal with the hundreds of business all over the country that have already laid off employees, cut hours back to make them part-time or just fired people to avoid the unaffordable obama health care costs. The current shortage of general practioners and nurses that will no longer do the job because they won't make enough to cover the cost of the education and the ones retiring early because they refuse to let big insurance companies tell them how they will be allowed to treat their patients.
The economy is going to crash hard now because of him being re-elected. You can already see it in the stock market, crap is going to hit the fan over-seas because they know that obama won't stop them and before long we will lose the one and only thing that prevents the US from total collapse and failure, our status as the World's reserve currency.
As our economy falls, other nations and groups are already working to replace the USD with something else, when that happens, we can no longer just print money to help pay our debt and at that point our currency becomes worthless.
Don't ask for sources, do something new for a change and learn to research for yourself.
Luckily for me, I invest OUTSIDE of this country and those that don't like it, can kiss my backside. Give me a nation worth investing in and I will, this is not it though. Almost all major investors are looking elsewhere and guess what, none of us care what anyone thinks about it since it is our money that we worked for.
When your homes and property are near worthless and you are hurting, it will be me and those like me that will come along and not only buy everything you used to own for pennies on the dollar, but we will laugh at you when we do it since you got exactly what you asked for.
laffinatfools,
It looks like quite a few of us appreciated armen's post.
You sir are part of the problem. I would suggest that you go become a resident of the country where your money resides. People like armen are part of the solution.
Armen
Do you hear the sound of that??? Maybe the sound of 1789 and 1917? Way to postpone the inevitable.
Armen is not "unselfish"..he just don't mind paying a little more to keep the pecking order the same. He pays more, the lazy get lazier and Armen makes more money in the long run. If he pays more to keep you lazy and unmotivated, then it's more opportunity for him and his kids to get the best jobs.
So what if Armen is faking? It doesn't mean it's not the right attitude to have. I'd love to make enough money to be able to help my country and the people in it. It's only greedy douchebags who not only refuse to pay a living wage but LOVE to send the children of the poor to war, profit off of that war, and then refuse to pay for it with the money they earned off of a war. Disgusting and shameful behavior!
Sounds like Patricia is looking for a hand out from the government, just in the form of lower taxes. Might as well ask for food stamps and welfare checks too!
How does one paying their fair share in taxes, proportionate to their gross income, make people lazier? I hear this over and over and no matter how many time I hear it - it still makes no sense. I pay more in taxes than my boss who makes an solid 7 figures. Let me tell you, that guy is seriously LAZY. We do all the work, he sits in his office all day and makes appointments to play golf. Work, is just a location his moves his ass to during the morning hours. He has "relationships" to leach off of, and an army of underlings to do the work. I assure, I do not grow lazier...I am more motivate every year.
Like I said before Lee, I wish there were more unselfish people like you out there Armen. And I am NOT lazy or unmotivated.
laffinatfools: Interesting....my home value has gone up considerably the past several months and they say it'll keep going back up a little more. So, I guess I'm just not sure what you're ranting about. As for investing outside of the country....you are the problem, not the solution! And, your understanding of the ACA is beyond wrong....companies do not have to lay people off so they don't have to purchase insurance....they can either have their employees buy their own insurance from the insurance co-ops that will be in each state, or they can purchase insurance for their employees (just like they do now) and get a tax break for doing so. Again, not sure where you're getting your information, but most of it is greatly inaccurate!
Layton.
The part of that you should have quoted is the part where I said I didn't care what you think about it.
I don't know why it is that hard for people to understand. For those that earned our money, we couldn't care less what you or anyone else thinks of what we do with it. It is not my place to pay more just because others don't want to work and pay anything. It is not my place to pay more in salary than I have to or to make less than I can just to satisfy some lazy whiners.
I couldn't care less what happens to any of you that support obama and I really hope it is no shock to you, but no one else cares either. If you are silly enough to think for even a second that people with money are going to lose a penny, I feel sorry for you. If I have to, I will cut hours, employees, benefits or raise prices but I will not make a penny less.
I will also not feel bad for a second when I buy homes that people lost and flip them for a profit. I won't feel bad about investing in foreign securities or stocks. It is MY money to do with as I please.
Now go ahead and tell me how getting that less than 1% of his deficit spending back from tax increases is going to be a magic pill. The absolute most you could ever get from the proposed tax increases is 85b a year, that wouldn't pay the interest on our current debt much less pay any on the principle, not to mention the more than 1 trillion a year that Obama will be adding on. And you libs still whine and wonder why people with money actually do something smart with it and invest outside of the US?
You are getting exactly what you wanted so enjoy it.
Reaper...my children, nor my husband, nor my brothers were poor. We weren't rolling in dough but my parents provided well enough. I am not rich now but I do my best to provide for my children. However, they have all chosen to serve in the military because it was their idea of the right thing to do. So please, before you run off at the suck by saying sending the "poor to war", have some respect for those who have done it to defend you, this nation, and their President, regardless of who he is, and generally those people who don't want to go in the military but have no problem complaining that my children and my husband and my brothers owe them something.
I agree it is the right attitude to give, so let's start with all the wealthy Hollywood folks who get massive tax write-offs, the Congress (all of them) who get insider trading tips, Warren Buffet, Obama, Romney, and all the sports stars who don't do anything with their money. Let's get those who wanted to "share" to write a check for the correct amount of taxes they should be paying, before tax deductions, capital gains taxes, etc....I got a nasty feeling they won't do it unless forced with a gun. So, when will you send your check in?
didi
Very few areas have had home values go anywhere near where they were pre-obama but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about those those lose them because of lack of jobs and the numbers of them have not slowed down at all, they just don't get reported like they used to.
And you are way off about aca. Try having more than 25 full time employees and see if you can still be profitable after paying what the healthcare costs will be and as far as a "tax break" you are loopy, there is no such thing. In fact, corporate tax rates are climbing and no signs of slowing down as is the case with the ungodly number or permits, licenses, inspections and random crap you have to do now that makes it all but impossibe to be regulated to death.
And the bottom line is still, MY money and I will do as I please with it. Losing some of what I work so hard for is not what I want to do with it and that will be the case with almost everyone that is really in that position. No one with money buys into that line of crap that it is our responsibility to pay more so others can do less. There will never be one company in the country that will do that. They will all pass costs along to those under them or cuts costs (jobs) to keep the profit margin going. I have shareholders to answer to and that means I MUST make profit and if I have to fire people or outsource overseas, fine by me.
If the country wants me to keep my money here, make it worth it to me or shut up.
Armen...Why the hell are you waiting if the government needs the money so bad?
If you were genuine, you would have said, "I sent the government $$$ today."
Get your checkbook out and send a big, fat check to Uncle Sam now.
(Like that's going to happen!!!)
I'm amazed at many of the right wing comments here. So bitter about losing; I'd of thought they'd be getting used to it.
On the other hand, perhaps they really are acting in their own best interest; maybe they're all multi millionaires.
Again, low information claims another victim.
Here is how we make it worth your while....YOU ARE AN AMERICAN AND YOU ARE FREE.
Here is how you pay your debt. Follow the rules and pay a fair share in taxes.
Don't like the rules, please, by all means - take your money, and your "more than 25 full time employees" to another country. Please. I'll help you pack.
laffinatfools . . .
Again, you are part of the problem. You assume WAY too much about the posters on this site and have regally claimed the title of King Republican (the one that Mitt wanted so badly.) I'm sure your picture is right next to the word selfish in the dictionary. You don't bother me at all. I feel sorry for you though, it's going to be a lonely life. You might have a lot of $ and you'll make sure of that, but given your attitude towards others, not sure how many friends will be by your bedside when that time comes other than those you have purchased.
Nobody needs to make anything "worth" it for you. The fact that you are here enjoying what this country provides for it's citizens should be "worth" it for you. Many people in countries around the world have died for what your country offers you, namely free speech.
The republicans have lied to themselves so much they are believing their own lies. Just like the republicans believed that Romney was going to win because the republicans lied to them.
Now they are lying up a storm again, pretending their new lies are now true. Then the republicans wonder why intelligent people don't believe them.
Too bad the republicans are never interested in the truth about anything. Isn't that right, Patricia?
Layton
Spare me the childish platitudes. I am also retired Army and have 4 combat deployments so I have served myself, for my own rights. That includes the right to keep what I earn.
I also have a wonderful wife, 5 children, 2 grandchildren and more friends than I can list.
I guess that sort of screws your little scenerio just a bit. And yes, this country needs to EARN what it wants from me. Everyone in our government works for us, not the other way around. People these days seem to forget that little tidbit of information. You don't pee on my shoe and tell me it's raining. If you want something from me, you give me something for it. If I want something from you, I will give you something for that. If you don't like that setup, doesn't bother me. I have mine and I will do with it as I please in a manner that works best for me and my family.
I pay my taxes, more than many make a year. I pay taxes on my interest income that I made with money I have already paid taxes on once before. I pay so many different taxes I can't keep up with most of them so I don't feel obligated in the least to pay more. And guess what, I won't. No matter what law gets made or what changes happen, I will end up not paying a penny more, no one with money actually will. One guess who will end up paying more though.
I will always find another write-off, another investment to roll over another shelter to use. Bottom line, no change for me unless it is in my favor and that is how things work and how they always will no matter what obama would try to trick you into thinking. Reality, give it a try.
Done with this though, just a short distraction from counting my money...... :)
Have fun talking, I am done with it.
friend of gravity re 4.25
I know what country I am in and since I served to make it free, I am well aware of that as well.
And I do pay my fair share. Every last penny the law requires.
And since it is a free country, anything that eats into what I make, I will pass that along to get my money back. If that means getting rid of employees, cutting hours or raising prices, then that is what it will be.
And THAT is exactly the way it will be with everyone that is in the position to do so and you would be a real fool to think otherwise. But go on and think that this tax sham that obama is feeding you will matter. The amount gained from what he wants would be less than 1% of our budget and wouldn't even be noticed but it was enough to get the sheeple to feed at the trough and to swallow the koolaid.
Since you are all about "information". You are aware that if everyone in the top 2% gave their entire yearly income in taxes, every last penny, it would come up to about 4% of the debt we have. In other words, it wouldn't even pay the interest. Yet the gullible and obviously uninformed will gladly jump on anything that gives them the promise of not having to work for anything and just have it given to them.
Patricia, the top 2% taxes are going to go up and there is nothing you can say or do about it. So drink you kool aid and chill. Also, come out of the bubble, you will like it.
uh, a 2%'er doesn't neccessarily make millions, many small business owners are 2%'ers and you would never know it. And many are in low profit margin endeavors where a tax hike could put them under, but hey, it might be better if we are all broke!
laffinatfools. . . .
I've noticed that every one of your posts is all about little ol' YOU! Women definitely know not to trust men that like to tell us ALL about themselves, because time after time you all prove yourself so very contrary to what you say.
But if it makes you feel the bigger "man" to tell us all about your accomplishments on a NBC news thread, well, have at it!
In the meantime, the rest of us "peasants" will continue to work towards the good of our country.
Laffinatfools....
Layton hit it right on the head. You are the type of business owner that nobody would want to work for, but instead has to work for. You may think it makes you a "good" businessman, but in reality it makes you a crotchety old scrooge (who was also a good businessman).
There are more successful small business owners out there who would make sacrifices for their employees then you would think. You though, are just not one of them. And the fact that it shows just in your cry baby whining posts is a sad reality in and of itself. If I was in your position I would make sure my family and home were in order, and I would then begin thinking about my employees and their families and homes. You think about how to add one more course to your oversize dining room table by stealing dinner of your employees tables.
So go on counting your money and continue fuming up inside. I certainly enjoy the fact that I will not be around when your kettle boils. In fact I feel sorry for your family who has to sit around and hear your silly diatribes and rants about how Obama is ruining America.
Remember what JFK said? ...... I'm betting you do.
Thanks for all the replies, both positive and negative. I had no idea my little post will generate such feedback.
For those who curious: I'm in my mid-30s, immigrated to the USA in mid-90s, college drop-out, wife, 3 kids, big house on a lake, $300K/year (I thought I'm in 2%, but one of the posts suggested I'm not; sorry if I was wrong). Money-wise I began earning this kind of sum only recently. I started at the bottom at a minimum wage, with no health or car insurance. I went through ups and downs financially, no complaints there, it happens. The bottom line is I know how scary it is to live without simple things like health insurance. If I earn minimum wage or close to that, no insurance, and I have to go to the emergency room - that's $300-500 just to walk through their door. It will push me back financially for months. I went through all this, I know how it is. I don't want your and my children to live like this. I personally think it's a shame that the most powerful country in the world does not take care of its own people.
If higher taxes means guaranteed affordable healthcare for us all (rich and poor), respectable retirement (social security is going to be underwater soon, I heard, unless we fund it better), then be it. Of course I'm being selfish by saying that I want to be fair and pay higher taxes. We will all live happier, economy will be booming, my business will keep growing, I will keep making more money. What comes around goes around. Invest $1 now, get $2 later.
Imagine people don't have to worry about getting sick, or their job security? Imagine people outside of the US actually saying nice things about Americans for a change? We will all benefit. Yes, maybe it will take me longer to save for fancy things like a sport car. Not a big deal. We are all in the same boat, let's help our country. We will only enrich ourselves by doing so.
Patricia,
I hope your room has padded walls.
Armen,
You will pay a higher tax rate on the $50,000 over $250,000.
I agree with Armen as a patriot, but those of you attacking Patricia are way off base. When we see how the government spends "our" money, I totally agree with not paying more until they can prove they can spend it more wisely.
I say go over the cliff, which is BS anyway. Before the tax breaks came into effect, we survived just fine. And at that time our government was smaller, and functioned actually better. The "cliff" as those who have something to gain are calling it is the most non-partisan legislation I have seen coming out of Washington. It is shared sacrifice to do what is right and necessary. No lobbyists, no special interests, everybody pays. Yes it will hurt, but we have been living off of credit cards for far too long.
Here is a short list of some of the taxes "our government" has seen fit to enact, so "we the people" are taken care of:

C'mon people the govermnet already has not just their hands in our pockets , but they have jammed both arms in up to their elbows. I'll take the 3% tax hike to stop all the constant incessant whinning from the Libs and people who want to bring good, hard working people down to their low-life level due to their petty jealousies"let's tax the rich what do I care it's not me they don't deserve to have more than i do attitude"), if the Feds will repeal the alcohol tax! I have a feeling it's going to take massive quantities of booze to get through the next four years.
Armen-449589
I appreciate your sentiment and agree with most. I also started with nothing and now own my own business. The only thing I have issues with is believing that having insurance guarantees health care. It does not. Health insurance companies do not provide a service, they provide a "just in case". I pay $10,000 a year for just in case insurance with a $6,000 deductible. How exactly am I receiving "health care" when I can't afford to go to the doctor because I am paying "insurance" premiums. People are deluded thinking "insurance" guarantees "care"
John, you need to choose your insurance company wisely. Just as you do an attorney. I know that sounds round-about but ... I talked to the court clerks when I needed an attorney. I talked to health professionals when choosing an insurance. May be going big here, but if Altius is your plan ... they stink at paying for things, they stink at paying their providers, and they love to reap it in and not pay. Investigate. There are good insurance companies!
Layton-3733410
Sorry, but there are no good insurance companies. They are in business for a reason, and that is to make money, not to make sure you are healthy. They are in existence to make you help pay for those that are not healthy while suckling from your teet. Health "care" is my being able to be judged on my own health history and how I take care of myself. Health "care" is being able to get regular checkups and pay with cash for services I need, but have a rider to protect from something catastrophic. That is "health care", and insurance has nothing and can contribute nothing to that.
John, if you work in the healthcare industry, you would know that there are those that are good and those that are bad. Grouping all into this ...
That, unfriend, is exactly what the ACA is all about! Do you not get that? The purpose of the ACA is to make sure that those without insurance that drive our costs up are moved into plans so that the Emergency Room does not become the waiting room. You obviously do not know how insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare work.
Would have welcomed a civil discourse but you, my not friend, are so into your own world, you cannot see the rest of it.
This is an interesting article by a college professor who payed 16% in taxes and found that he paid less than anyone else in the department he heads. Just like Warren Buffet..............

First of all, I don't believe I was being uncivil. I will say that there are some very good things in the ACA. That being stated forcing people to give money to private companies that survive off the potential misery of others is not one of them. I would rather pay it to my doctors. That way it would guarantee a bang for my buck, and it would be based on my usage of the system and not others.
You state that people without insurance are driving up costs. Well, here is my take.
The bill states that a family under 133% of the poverty line will be mandated to receive medicaid.
A family with four kids making $26,000 a year is at 133% of the poverty line ( or $35,000) and will receive medicaid.
35% of our population makes less than $35,000 a year.
That means that 35% of our population just went on public assistance and we will be paying for them regardless. And in their infinite wisdom Congress didn't include anything for funding.
So, in finality, those that make above the threshold will be both forced to pay for insurance that does not give them health "care" to share the costs of those that don't live a healthy lifestyle, and those that don't make enough money to be forced to pay into the system. Like I stated, there are good things in ACA and I want a healthy country, but this will not create one.
FeedbackFreddy,Great post.Don't forget all of the taxes that cities charge that they call fees not to mention the California DMV fee.We are taxed and fee'd to the max which leaves little to spend to stimulate our economy.Less taxes and less spending should be the government's goal.
I don't pay ANY US taxes any more. I left.
If they tax the rich or big businesses too heavily watch how fast they'll leave America. If you didn't like how Romney sent your job to a new country, wait till you see how Obama does it.
And see how many off shore accounts are opened in the Bahamas.
when they leave I won't be buying tyour JUNK so don't bring it back here or we will tarriff the hell out of it you will have to pay US to take your @!$%# AND i will have your JOB BIT..h
We don't really manufacture anything anymore. And if I don't have the money - I can't buy anything.
I say don't let the door hit you on the way out. More opportunities for those who want to invest in America's future.
America has no future you moron
Let 'em go. I'll spend my hard earned American dollars at a company that will quickly spring up to take advantage of the un-tapped demand.
That IS the nature of capitalism, right?
Uh, hate to tell you but the corporate tax rate is around 37.5% ON PROFITS so if a company doesn't make money they don't pay taxes......
Wow, a lack of knowledge about economics and tax policy on full display!
That's just the income. What about SS - and the employers contribution, unemployment - state and Fed, Workman's Comp, ObamaCare, State and Local taxes - sales & property, liability insurance - property & vehicles. Not much profit, expecially for a manufacturer
A general lack of knowledge seems to plague most commenters.
I have owned a small business for 25 years - but got out because I couldn't compete with the Govt wanting my money.
If you are indeed, telling the truth, I feel sorry for you. Having a proper team of advisers is key to the success of a "real business". If you were unable to adapt, adjust rates, or successfully plan the future of your company - than you are the reason it failed. You can't blame the government for your failures.... especially when I'm sure you wouldn't of thanked them for any successes.
America does to have a future. Just because we have over $60 TRILLION total in UNFUNDED long-term liabilities doesn't mean....oh....wait.....
"Friend of Gravity", you are talking out of your gluteus maximus ! You have no idea of why Wyo2 "got out" and your reply is totally disingenuos.
I know a doctor who has taken early retirement rather than deal with the impositions of government control of health care under "Obamacare". Even lower reimbursement rates under Medicare were part of the reason as well.
Friend of Gravity -
Thank you!! MILLIONS of successful businesses thrive every year despite the 'evil' government and their 'overwhelming' tax burden.
The re-election of Pres. Obama should set a steady course for the next few years and eliminate most of the uncertainty around tax rates, etc. I expect real American entrepeneurs to flourish over the next few years and add a substantital number of jobs.
jim -
Either you are your doctor friend are being disingenius. 'Obamacare' mainly impacts insurance coverage not reimbursement rates or allowed procedures. I say BULL.
TNSEVOL, If you will get off your ass and actually "READ" the bill to see what's in it, you will realize there is a massive explosion in government bureaus, agencies, boards and commissions ... just to ADMINISTER THE DAMN THING ! Your weak little "MAINLY" simply proves you are intentionally distorting the truth !
Obamacare does give the government authority to decide procedures over a doctor's judgment.
Obamacare does create a massive bureaucracy to achieve government control.
Obamacare does give the government the ability to LIMIT the rate of premium increase insurance companies may charge ... and thus drive them out of business.
Obamacare does protect Big Pharma from Canadian competeition.
Obamacare DOES call for reduced reimbursement rates for Medicare patients. This is specifically why most doctors REFUSE TO ACCEPT "NEW" Medicare patients.
I say BULL$HIT to your reply. Stick to something you might understand like manufacturing !
Let's go back and remember how the tax cuts make people invest in more companies and thus create more jobs. Oh wait - that's not what happened is it? Raising taxes doesn't decrease the number of jobs and lowering them sure as H*ll doesn't increase the number!
Patricia Paulson........you said it perfectly and I couldn’t agree with you more. I know the message on this site is get over it and stop the hate. In other words give in because slightly more than the majority disagree with you. I call BS and stand with you and your thoughts. Well done and well said!
The tax cuts have been in place for a decade now.
Where are the jobs???????
All we got was the Great Recession.
Repubs will froth at the mouth like rabid dogs claiming that this will hurt business. The hell with that! A $13m bonus equates to 250k per week salary to a lot of the top 2%, albeit some only get half that, poor baby's. Imagine paying off you house in 2 - 3 weeks, not 30 damn years of blood sweat and tears. That kind of greed and payout hurts everyone and every business more than any tax hike would.
Why did Obama campaign on raising taxes for the 1%, yet now increase it to 2% ? Do you libs feel "suckered" .... yet ??
Next, it will be the top 4% and so on. Actually, I seriously doubt he intends to extend the Bush tax cuts to the middle class. He got the power grab he wanted, his re-election, so there is no longer any incentive to do what he promised !! And you clowns fell for it.
Henry...you should have got off of your ass and got a better job then. You had the same opportunity to get rich as the rich did. They went to work, school, night school, etc...to get ahead and you didn't
Your own fault
Everyone is going to be paying more in taxes...those of us in the middle to upper-middle class are going to feel it the most. Only the huge chunk of those who don't pay any taxes can rest easy...for now.
I don't feel suckered, I think they should raise rates on the top 10%. In fact, I think they should just raise Jim's taxes....
This huge chunk that doesn't pay INCOME taxes have earned that privilege. Seniors, retirees, veterans, servicemen, public servants, etc.
Again, low information lays claim to another victim.....
Henry Limpet ... can I just say your screen name brought back fond memories of that movie and Don Knotts? Loved it as a child ....
sorry for the off-topic!
Friend of Gravity
"This huge chunk that doesn't pay INCOME taxes have earned that privilege. Seniors, retirees, veterans, servicemen, public servants, etc."
Where did you come up with this little nugget? The bulk of those that pay no income taxes are everyday people. Most are those that are out of work, minimum wage workers and the welfare vampires. If you live at or below the poverty level you pay no income taxes. They get taken out but you get them right back in the form of tax returns and that is about 47% of the population. So if you get money back at the end of the year, you pay no income taxes.
But you were right about that low information thing :)
Jim....please! Are you trying to imply that Obama has broken another campaign promise. Every lib will repeat his words 'that he means what he says and says what he means'.
But none of them will mention any of this...
5 pages of Obama’s broken promises:
Promise Broken rulings on the The Obameter
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/rulings/promise-broken/?page=1
@Friend of Gravity, Does that mean you are obese ??
Sorry libbie, but Bam-Bam has already increased taxes on MILLIONS of middle-class Americans who are not even in the top 10 % ! How you say ? Read Obamacare and check out all the sneaky little taxes built into it.
There is an assortment of changes designed to reduce or eliminate medical deductions. The AGI floor has been raised from 7.5% to 10%. Contributions to medical reimbursement plans have had a ceiling imposed. The rules for what can be reimbursed have changed. Medical devices get an excise tax on top of the cost ! Tanning salons are already subject to a 10% excise tax (not sure how many African-American citizens are affected by this). Health savings accounts are subject to new rules and many over-the-counter drugs are no longer reimbursable.
But I guess, "low-information" voters like yourself would not be aware of these sneaky little tax increases !
HINT: "You'll have to READ the bill to see what's in it !"
Jim, your right but don't try to 'convince' liberals who think the ACA is wonderful! It will be interesting to see how they react in a couple of years when all the 'hidden taxes' you mentioned appear. It's like trying to convince them that Obama did not take $600B out of Medicare to fund Obama care and expect the same level of services to continue. Why do they think so many doctors are choosing to open 'concierge' practices or retire. Why would you expect our brightest young people to go into medicine by going to college for 4 years, working hard to get 'outstanding grades', go to medical school for a additional 4 years, borrow the money to do so; then do a residency for 3-4 years making minimum wage, open a practice; hire people, buy equipment; borrow more money, agree to accept medicare patients and then see this President promote a policy to 'reduce' reimbursements to physicians. Anyway you cut it; there will be a reduction in Medicare services and physicians.
I'm fine with finding solutions to reducing the cost of healthcare in the US. I just don't believe that taking 'incentives' away from physicians or companies that privide services and new techknowledges will end up doing the opposite.
I fail to see how other peoples hard work and good fortune "hurts everyone and every business"? What I can easliy read through your comment is your unmitigated jealousy for other people's wealth and sucess. I don't think you have a good outlook on life or a positive image of yourself. It's sad really. It must be difficult being you.
You don't like ACA? Cool! I don't have any health care insurance and use the emergency room that you pay for.
Loser!
Devil's Advocate here Mr. President--if there was really a "mandate" on this tax plan, then wouldn't we have a majority of Democrats in the People's House? Instead, a majority of voters decided they wanted Republican representation in the House. Doesn't that suggest something far less clear than a "mandate?"
Yes and we would but the districts are rigged, after the 2010 elections.
Really? That's the best you can do? Gerrymandering is the sole reason the Republicans have a majority in the House? That's a pretty big majority to lay at the feet of ol' Gerry. Pre- and post-election polling suggest otherwise--the Republicans were doing somewhat better in most "generic congressional" polls. Most pundits regardless of their political colors have opined that the House staying "Red" shows the public wants divided government--are you just smarter than the rest of us?
Oh, I know, it isn't just Gerrymandering, it's voter suppression too....next....
Exactly. All spending measures must originate in the House. The people have spoken and have given the Republican party control of the purse strings. Obama and the Senate democrats need to stop blocking the people's will and pass the House tax and spending proposals.
I love how when Bush lost the popular vote in 2004, but won the electorial vote (alledgedly), that he said he had a mandate from the people. But, when Obama won by a landslide in electorial votes, and 60% of the people who voted indicated that taxes should be raised on those making over $250,000, that the GOP is saying he doesn't have a mandate. How does that work?
carebake--I'm not "they"---Bush was a bad president and never had a mandate. What does that have to do with the issue at hand? (Psst....I'll give you a hint....NOTHING...it's a second term now....this is Obama's economy, not Bush's, Clinton's, Bush's or Reagan's......)
I don't understand why he would call it a mandate. 20 states want to secede, 48+% didn't vote for him, Florida as well as numerous other states had over 100% voter participation ( more voters than people registered) & the left & right fighting over it. Everybody complains about all of congress but still seem to invite the same pigs back to the trough every election. The democrats seem to be like lambs being led to the slaughter & the republicans want to keep everything & want more. Things will only change when people toss out the one that has incumbent after his/her name. Most of them are now millionaires & the ones that aren't will be before they leave.
carebake; fine he had a mandate then. It lasted two years. Then it shifted with the biggest shift in the house in 2010. He lost his mandate and does not currently have one.
Am I missing something ? Did Obama get 60% of the vote ?? Was there a massive change away from the Democrats in 2010 or a massive change away from the Republicans in 2012 ???
Or are liberals suffering from Delusions of Grandeur once again ????
Make no mistake. The House majority is bought and paid for by Big Money.
If you look at the election how much national publicity did the various House seats receive. All of the attention was on the presidential ellection and how it would affect our lives. In some Legislative Districts some of the candidates ran unopposed.. In the election that affected all Americans the mandate was to accept Obama's plan for the future.
It suggests that someone needs a dictionary that includes the word "mandate."
Make no mistake. The Senate majority is bought and paid for by Big Money.
LooLoo.ser-
The '143%' has been debunked.
As far as the 99% Obama precincts, did you research the results versus 2008 and look for anomalies? Almost all of those precincts had the exact same results in the 2008 election.
I am sure there were precincts in Georgia, Alabama and Texas that had the same results for Romney.
gremlins....
Well since you are SOOOOOOOOOOOO sure, why not just prove it ? I don't think you can ! I think you are talking out your butt.
Philadelphia smells like serious fraud. Of course, our servicemen and women overseas were disenfranchised as well with absentee ballots arriving late once again ! Oops !! How did that happen libbies ?
No, just some nut jobs in these states want to secede.
hs321:
...also paid for by foot-in-mouth disease.
The votes from registered voters can be tracked under most voting systems used.
If it were true 147% voted, would be easy enough to track who voted twice.
This is such a ludicrous idea......but then if you want to see "beyond ludicrous......click on looloo.ser's icon and read his posts over the last 4 months.
jim -
Links, please, to your unfounded accusatons about military absentee ballots arriving late? Republicans seized on a satirical post on a military blog to start that crazy rumour.
Philadelphia voted almost the same way in 2008 also. Check your facts!
There were 14 counties in Georgia (no precinct voting available) were Romney had over 80% of the vote! Voter Fraud Alert!!!
Ever notice how every picture of Obama is of his head turned to the left or right to see his teleprompter? He can't think on his own. How does a popular vote that is nearly 50 - 50 = a clear mandate by the voters for raising taxes? That's about as intelligent as most of the libs on this board. You will be singing a different tune when this tax raise on those making $200K isn't enough, then he adjusts the wealthy line to $150K, then $100K, and on and on. The government doesn't have a revenue problem....it has a severe spending problem.
I forgot - all republicans are great public speakers and required no teleprompter. Even Bush. ROFL
And winning by over 126 electoral votes - gaining seats in the senate and house isnt huge? Obama beats Romney by a larger margin than Bush beat Kerry and you idiots called that a mandate.
As far as intelligence goes - is this the same group that bases their life out of a book written by a bunch of dudes who new a dude who said he was the son of god? The same group that thinks a woman can shut down her reproductive system in events of rape? The same group that calls a shapeless glob of cells a baby? The same group that defends straight marriage with a failure rate of 50%?
Yes - you people are real friggin jeopardy contestants.
I am amazed that people regurgitate the dumbest stuff I have ever seen without an inkling of curiosity as to the validity of it.
http://www.phillyelectionresults.com/
Romeny got 14% of the vote. You people are sad.
http://www.slcelections.com/
"note* - turnout percentages will show over 100% due to a two page ballot. the tabulation system (GEMS) provides voter turnout as equal to the total cards cast in the election divided by the number of registered voters. also note that some voters chose not to return by mail the second card containing the amendments."
TNSEVOL, Is that the best you can do ? 80% voting one-way in a precint is not only possible, it is beleivable.
100%, repeated in many, many, many precincts is possible only through voter fraud. Only fools and Obama leg-humpers would believe otherwise. Which are you ?
Does his mandate include spending a bunch of money he doesn't have too?
Yes I am sure it does. But it would be nice to see what his plan is. He is responsible for 7 trillion of our debt and he should fix that in his next 4 years
0-blamer will double the $6 trillion in debt that he has already added to the deficit. In the next 4 years he alone will add $12 trillion to the current $16+ trillion in debt that is already there (Yes he is responsible for $6 trillion already I know) He can't blame Bush - he can only blame himself. Then at the end of the next 4 years we will be $28 trillion in debt and unemployment up even more and more people feeding at the govt trough. Glad I can close down the practice and move to another country to do boob jobs and face lifts.
He is not responsible for $7T. That may be the amount racked up since he was in office but the biggest chunk of that are the result of the Bush Tax cuts, the Bush wars and the Bush Medicare Drug program--All programs started by Bush and passed by a Republican Congress. You guys are such a bunch of hypocrites...and looks like most people, to their credit, did not buy your BS. Get real, come to terms and compromise.
Holy Crap Batman - they are still blaming Bush! After 4 years a ton of promises in 2008 from Obama (and I voted for him) he owns this boat.
Bush put two wars on credit card - was that his mandate?
Wyo2: I'm surprised that, after all this time, you STILL don't understand why President Obama's budget was so high in his first term.....ex-President Bush failed to add the war to his budget, along with the Medicare Drug Program. These were added to the budget after President Obama was elected, which basically overstated his budget significantly. If you take out the monies added to the budget from ex-President Bush's stupidity, President Obama's budget was one of the lowest in many years. But, I guess that's just waaay too hard for some of you to understand. We're not blaming ex-President Bush....but some of the problems that we had the past 4 years certainly had a start during his administration. All we can do is hope that we can eventually come back out on top, but it certainly isn't going to happen overnight......and for any of you Republicans to expect President Obama to take us back to the "good ol' times" in 4, or even 8, years is ludicrous. It takes at least 10-15 years to come out of a deep depression.
Didi: So when Obama ran to be POTUS and made all the promises for cutting the debt, getting jobs, ending both wars by 2012, was he prepared? Did he have the experience? Does he have any knowledge of macroeconomis? Can he balance his own check book? I am just saying he was ill prepared to do what was needed or he would have got rid of the Bush Tax cuts. I don't think Bush was Stupid, any more than Obama has any experience of working with both parties. I voted for him in 2008 but how can I justify his lack of hiring the most brilliant professionals to get this job done.
"We're not blaming ex-President Bush...but"
ROFLMAO!!!
B707320C
The bush tax cuts on all Americans were a good thing and if Obama hadn't spent like a drunken sailor it would not of made a bit difference to the US debt. The Iraq and Afgan war at the height of conflict combined costs were about 130 billion a year The cost now of those conflicts are less than a quarter of that now. Simply put it is a pimple on the elephant's butt when it comes to Obama Bin Ghazi's racking up record debt and bankrupting our country The PDP coverage which Bush so generously signed into law to help our senior's, which is what Bush and the Republican party is all about, is mostly funded with the prescription drug plan policies all seniors must buy from insurers. Policies from insurers run abut $30.00 too $40.00 a month. Wallmart has a good PDP policy. Sure the government picks up some of the cost, but the drug costs were killing seniors and something had to be done. You wouldn't want our seniors to not be able to get life saving medication, would you? As a Republican I'm ok with helping them out. Maybe your not. All in all these 3 items are a small pittance of the debt Obama has racked up in 4 years and will continue to rack up because he just dosen't have a clue! It's time to stop blaming Bush. It's Obamasjob and his debt now. Time for him and his minions to MAN-UP and take resposiblity!
Yes it is the fault of bush/cheney. He spent like a drunken sailor and our grandchildren will be paying for it. This little chart shows why.
CHART OF THE DAY: Reminder, The Deficit You're Freaking Out About Is Bush's Fault
I think the GOP should allow the tax hike on the "wealthiest Americans." It won't do any good in reducing our debt and deficit, of course, but we won't be subjected to hearing that constant mantra anymore. Until the tax hike actually takes place, the "rich" among us will be constantly blamed for all our financial ills and it has become very tiresome.
Why not tax the rich some more and see how little it does.
You are correct--they have already been taxed on that capital gains tax already
BGG - You are so right. I hope the House gives Obama exactly what he wants. That money will evaporate quicker than you know. The deficit will never see a penny of it. This is all a big show, from the class warrior in chief. He wants to show that he can punish people of wealth. After he gets the rates up then he'll just go after capital gains and up that to Clinton levels (35% I think), then up the estate tax back to 55%. Then the states are going to jump on the gravy train as well (think Cali). Job creators and the people that pay income tax are just going to either leave or bury their money "off site". This isn't going to end well for anyone. But the genie is out of the bottle, he's going to try and tax his way out of this mess, but only do it to those that have any chance of putting people on a payroll. - Everybody just lean forward, because the man is coming....
bluegrassguitar,
You have the right idea. America will bounce back either way, but if taxes are raised on the rich it will happen quicker. Not because the revenue will help, but because it will give the 98% more confidence to spend money. The problem there, is that 75% of the 98% are already spending all their take home pay.
Taxes on "the wealthiest Americans" have already been increased through Obamacare !
HINT: "You'll have to READ the bill to see what's in it"
Alan-Static;
Get your check book ready! You lost!
Looser....sounds like a thief to me!!! You want some money...get a f'n job you crook!!! What makes you think it's ok to take money from someone who has earned it? How about we take the money from the people who get refunds larger than what they pay in? We have deadbeats making 13k a year with ZERO FWH and getting refunds of 10k...what f'n sense does that make? You want everyone to pay "their fair" share, lets start with getting everyone paying anything!!!
Darwin...we even give Looser's money to illegals:
Illegals get $4.2 Billion using fraudulent Tax Claims…
The Internal Revenue Service allowed undocumented workers to collect $4.2 billion in refundable tax credits last year, a new audit says, almost quadruple the sum five years ago.
Wage earners who do not have Social Security numbers and are not authorized to work in the United States can use what the IRS calls individual taxpayer identification numbers. Often these result in fraudulent claims on tax returns, auditors found.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/post/undocumented-workers-got-billions-from-irs-in-tax-credits-audit-finds/2011/03/23/gIQAhtaKvJ_blog.html?hpid=z3
But I'm sure he has not problem with that.....
7 of the top 10 welfare states are red genius.
That's funny, not tooo long back I researched a link provided by another poster showing most of the government money going to blue states. Got any proof for your assertion so we can compare apples to apples ?
After reading your post I did some fact checking, looked at a couple of different maps from both sides and came up with the same numbers. 19 Red states 13 blue states, received the most federal dollars. Now lets take out the $$'s for programs that benefit the whole nation i.e, Military, Farm Subsidies, Nasa etc.
In states such as Texas and Alaska they have more military bases and receive more money. In states such as Oklahoma and New Mexico(blue state) they have both military bases and Reservations. In states such as Aizonia, Texas, New Mexico and California all border states they receive more funding for immigration issues.
It would be interesting to see which states receive the most for welfare programs.
By the way Arkansas (Red)also a Southern state) receives less than $1 per person in Federal Aid.
"Obama: 'No evidence' of national security harm in Petraeus scandal"
Amazing how quickly he came to that conclusion, but how long it's taken to get the truth on Benghazi.......
You people do not listen he said he does not have evidence there was.
We dont still have the truth on Benghazi, If Obummer didnt know way before the election that Petraeus was screwing many then Obummer is AGAIN out of touch with his employees, i believe he knew and when Petraeus wanted to tell us what happened in Benghazi Obummer said i will tell everyone that your screwing these woman and Petraeus said, no ill tell everyone myself your not going to hold me hostage Obummer.
Obummer bummer hes our man, if he cant fu-k you no one can
how come your the last to KNOW when your bit..h screws around on YOU can"t YOU keep watch over your WIFE any better than THAT why are you the last to know
It really doesn't matter either way. Petreus stepped down. That is that. If harm was done, it was done. 4 people died in Benghazi, and that too is done. It really doesn't matter anymore. Let's concentrate on things that matter.
Malcontented-3522106: I hope you're not serious.
Liberals like malcontented do not want to know the truth about Benghazi.
No, liberals and the rest of the informed populace ALREADY KNOW the truth about Benghazi.
Republicans won't accept the truth so they constantly make up their own 'facts ' and 'truth', ignoring reality.
Yep, PHawk, what's done is done! I couldn't be more serious.
It doesn't matter?? The administration wants it to go away before there is more evidence brought forth that the threaten was imminent and ignored and the Benghazi tragedy that costs for people their lives could have been prevented. Ask the family and loved ones of the four americans that died if it doesn't matter to them!
Malcontent...I would have loved to hear Obama say, "What's done is done" when he was elected and move FORWARD like Reagan did after inheriting Carter's mess.
However, that's the difference between a community organizer and a leader.
Hey, I resent being called a liberal just because I'm fair minded.
@TNSEVOL #10.7, You say you already know the "truth" but the State Department, Obama and Hillary ALL say the matter is still under investigation. So who is the LIAR here ? Are you lying TNSEVOL, or is Obama, Hillary and the State Department lying ???
You can't have it both ways you know ! Are your pants on fire ? Or did you just vote for a liar ?
Actually, hs321, the "mess" began with poor economic policy during the 1970's. You can blame Nixon or Congress, but it was already a mess before Carter. Now, Carter didn't help matters, because he wanted to throw money at the problems instead of finding the problem. This is still a problem today. Politicians want to throw money at problems because it's too much work to try and find out what's causing the problems. This problem should be laid at the feet of the Federal Government as a whole, not at a particular Party. Everybody is guilty!
Obama kinda did say "What's done is done" and abandoned fixing the financial situation in favor of Obamacare.
I can hear it now, "Forget the economy, that's Bush's fault. Let's get that healthcare bill pushed through while we are in the majority."
One of your better posts malcontented.
When Obama has a mandate FROM TAXPAYERS, then he has a right to demand more from us!
I'm with you Michael. The voters who put Obama over the top have no skin in the game. Mandate my a$$. Obama won the popular vote by only 2.35 million votes. Ha, that's less than the number of dead voters who cast ballots in Chicago. When the majority of INCOME (that's INCOME as in working and making money), tax payers agree to raise their rates, then he and his henchmen have the approval to do so. Yesterday the threshold was $250,000, today it's $200,000, tomorrow it will be $150,000 and pretty soon everyone who has a job will be paying more - oh, wait, everyone who currently has a job WILL be paying more as soon as the 16 individual tax increases associated with Obamacare become effective. Not to worry though libs, it shouldn't have much of an effect on you with your assembly line jobs and kid's with college degrees in basket weaving.
Well of course. When the democrats see that revenue doesn't increase after the taxes on the 2% are raised others will start being taxed until revenue gets where they want it. I'm OK with that, however, because it doesn't affect me much!
So you're a satirist. Nice!
Is there anywhere to find out what our dear president has presented as far as his tax proposal to Congress? Also, is it possible to see the budget he plans to present to congress as well. Will we be able to see his proposals on C-Span as he said we would?
Nay, that's all campaign rhetoric. But, don't worry, both Parties lie continually on the campaign trail.
Sure, here you go.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2013/assets/budget.pdf
By the way, all the prior year budget proposals that supposedly don't exist can be found here:
http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/browse/collectionGPO.action?collectionCode=BUDGET
Any other myths you want me to bust for you?
No myths about budget "proposals" ... just that NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER BEEN WORTH A DAMN !!!
Obama's budget proposals have never received even the first vote from someone within his own party. At no time during his first term, has Obama yet to see that a budget gets passed (as required by law) nor has he signed a budget !
The only "myth" is that your post represents ANYTHING near "Reality" ! You know quite well that a meaningless "proposal" from Obama, receiving NO VOTES is as worthless as tits on a boar hog ! Yet, as a distortionist liberal, you will lay out the garbage anyway !
jim-
This post, like most of your posts, demonstrates your lack of knowledge about how the government works. The President is required by law to submit an annual Budget Proposal - which he has done ever year.
Your rants only prove how ill-informed and blindly partisan you are. You claim Pres. Obama has not followed the law then when confronted with the facts you change your argument.
I just saw a herd of pigs flying overhead.......oooppss....mistook reality for more Obama drones on NBC. Sorry.
@TNSEVOL #12.4, Epic failure on your part ... except for the intended distortions by you !
Obamas proposals have been so bad, he received NO SUPPORT from his own party ! The House then has PASSED budgets .... only to see their budgets DIE in the Senate where Obama's henchman, Harry-A$$ Reid would sit on them ! Then Obama played "Pontius Pilate" washed his hands of the matter .... and walked away !
A REAL leader would have pushed his party member to negotiate and he would press for a budget, AS REQUIRED BY LAW ! Your rants only prove what a freakin DISTORTIONIST you are !!!! Our federal government is $16+trillion in debt and Obama does not think it important to have a BUDGET (also known as a financial plan) for the future !!!!
Nobody is changing their argument ... YOU are merely trying to distort it ! Oh, and the copying and pasting thing went out with kindergarten !!
WHEN has Obama ever "pushed" for a completed budget as required by law ? Answer that honestly, although I really don't think you are capable.
@ TNSEVOL
I gave up on that first link you provided after 70 pages. It lays nothing out line by line on exactly what the budget is!!!! That is a book. You know like, Dreams from my Father. Nice try though, and the savings are stetched out over 10 - 20 or 30 years. Thats a freaking projection. Not A Budget
Funny how the dems always want to tax instead of I don't know maybe CUTTING some freebe stuff or even their own benefits or pay. Yes he won but how many ballot boxes were stuffed. Just saying. Someday you will wake up and see the damage.
Freebees like FEMA AID to the likes of TEXAS and the southerners trash states who collect more from the federal gov't then they GIVE like food stamps how about the FREEBEEs to BIG OIL we can cut those how about federal tax dollars to guard your BORDERS their your borders you guard them i can find a lot of cuts and surely the TAX LOOP holes you have will go to All INCOME is INCOME not less for corporate that will go Let Alaska build its own bridge to nowhere and remove unwanted or needed armed forces bases from theose southern states they have their own malitia i've seen them on television all those big BELLIED PIGS running through the swamps that will save us big time they eat too much of our tax dollar funded food.
I would prefer to keep the freebies and cut that massive military budget. Also let's trim a significant part of all that foreign aid!
@David: You suffer from selective hearing. The President clearly said Medicare/Medicaid/ SS cuts were on the table as part of negotiations.
Well, they won't be taxed, so it's not their problem, screw the 'rich', like Robin Hood teaming up with the sheriff they are using their personal tax men to steal from the rich and give to themselves...don't let them fool you into thinking they give a damn about other people, if they really did, they'd just volunteer their own money to inner city youths and charities...but I'm finding that real hard core liberals do not give to charities, they take the hand outs and flip you the bird while saying it's your job to help them.
As for those freebies they get from the hard working mans taxes, let's just stop mentioning anything about taking those away, no way man, our president should not dare cut those, or they'll get angry and call us all racist rich white folks and other such evil words of hate. Now if only the president could legalize pot in all 50 states...that'll teach the angry white racist rich folks who's boss around here now.
My suggestion to all charity giving Republicans, Independents, and Libertarians...stop donating, stop caring, shred those give now mailers, don't be tempted by those brown paper food bags at your grocery stores, and just step away from any collection plates. They don't like you anymore, they hate you, so like dogs that bite the hands that feed, they need an occasional tap on the nose to remind them that the poor of this country are no where near as poor as the real poor in 3rd world nations, and it's thanks to the generous donations by the 'evil rich white racist people'.
If you have kids in college who thinks it's cool to vote Democrat cause MTV and 50 cent said so, while you 'rich' parents pay their tuition, food, apartment, or car notes...just stop paying, let them get a job and learn how it sucks to have nearly half of their income taken away. They'll grew up fast. They'll be smarter for it. It's a good lesson in economics. Many students at Berkeley and Cambridge need this valuable lesson. Their college professors need it as well. When kids drop out, the professors may have to get a real job in the real world... they need to learn the difference between Republican and Liberal it'll be a nice lesson for them.
STOP SUPPORTING THE RED CROSS...let the real Liberals carry the burden for once. The Cancer Society, AIDs, Shriners, Ronald McDonald...sorry, it's been decent of the 'rich white racist people', but it's time to stop writing checks now, the Liberals can handle it from here on out...am I right Liberals?
If this makes anyone angry...good and I do not apologize. I'm pretty sick of being called a rich racist person, just because I am in the 250,000 bracket that is a new stylish target of hate. I'm sick of being called a racist because I believe in government spending less on foolish items, while not taxing the piss out of people. I'm sick of being called evil, because I own a small business. I'm sick of 'fair share' meaning the more you make the more they can take...how in the hell is that fair?! Here is CHANGE for you: I will no longer help oar the boat of Guilt & Remorse that jealous people want to force us to stay on...good luck when you hit the waterfall...I hear it's one hell of fall.
It's the spending----not the income. Nuff' said.
while the Petraeus resignation has since dominated attention in Washington, an examination of the military’s version of events reveals a number of discrepancies and gaps worth closer scrutiny.
THE FIRST DISCREPANCY
The Defense Department timeline on the night of Sept. 11 begins at 9:42 p.m. local time and states, “The incident starts at the facility in Benghazi.”
Right from the start, the Pentagon and the CIA timelines do not match. (The CIA timeline, which was released on Nov. 1, states that at 9:40 p.m., “A senior State Department security officer at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi called the CIA annex and requested assistance.”)
A source at the CIA annex that night told Fox News that when they first asked to go and help, they were told to wait.
Within 17 minutes of the start of the attack, AFRICOM commander Gen. Carter Ham, who happens to be visiting Washington and was in the Pentagon that day, redirects an unarmed, unmanned drone to Benghazi.
PANETTA AND DEMPSEY ARE ALERTED 50 MINUTES AFTER ATTACK
At 10:32 p.m. (4:32 p.m. in Washington), 50 minutes after the incident began, the National Military Command Center, which is the operations center at the Pentagon where Ham is overseeing the operation, notifies Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey.
That means for nearly an hour, no one told the defense secretary and Joint Chiefs chairman that a U.S. ambassador is in peril and his personal security officer has pressed his “personal distress button” which sends an SMS signal back to the command authority in the U.S. and a U.S. embassy has been overrun by attackers.
A CIA team left for the consulate at 10:04 p.m. -- 28 minutes before the Pentagon says Panetta and Dempsey were told the attack had occurred.
Sources at the CIA annex in Benghazi told Fox News in an interview on Oct. 25 that they asked permission to leave for the consulate immediately and twice were told to wait. The CIA says the base chief was trying to arrange Libyan help.
PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED MEETING WITH PRESIDENT: 78 MINUTES AFTER ATTACK
At 5 p.m. in Washington, D.C. (11 p.m. in Libya), nearly an hour and a half after the attack began, according to the Pentagon’s timeline, “Secretary Panetta and General Dempsey attend a previously scheduled meeting with the President at the White House.”
The attack has already been under way for 78 minutes, but no rescue forces from outside Libya have yet been mobilized.
By 5:30 p.m. (11:30 p.m. in Libya), all surviving American personnel are rescued by the CIA annex team and leave the consulate for the CIA annex. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pentagon, Panetta, Dempsey and Ham meet to discuss additional response options.
MORE CALLS FOR HELP
Upon returning to the annex, the CIA team and those that were rescued immediately begin taking fire and at midnight, according to sources on the ground that night, begin making radio calls for help and air support. Almost immediately, they begin taking fire from small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.
According to a senior U.S. defense official, “This was not one long continuous fight, but two separate incidents at two separate facilities with some separation of time.”
However, British sources who were near the consulate and annex that night tell a different story, saying there was almost continuous fire on the annex after the team fled from the consulate.
Sometime over the next two hours, according to the official Pentagon timeline, Panetta gives the “go code” for two Marine FAST (Fleet Anti-terrorism Security) teams to prepare to leave Rota, Spain. A Special Operations force which is training in Central Europe is told to “prepare to deploy to an intermediate staging base in southern Europe (Sigonella, Sicily), and a Special Operations team in the U.S. is told to prepare to deploy to Sigonella as well.
It isn’t until 2:53 a.m. (about five hours after the incident began) that those orders are formalized by Panetta and the teams are told they can leave.
TEAM LANDS AT SIGONELLA 20 HOURS LATER
The Pentagon says that the European-based team of rescuers landed at Sigonella air base at 7:57 p.m. on Sept. 12, more than 20 hours after the attack began and 40 minutes after the last survivor was flown out of Tripoli on a U.S. C-17 transport plane.
Fox News has learned more details about the European rescue team. More than 30 Special Operations Forces, part of a Commander’s In Extremis Force, or CIF, which is normally on a short tether, are deployed in the event of a terror attack. They are a counterterror SWAT team.
The group ordered toward Libya was from the Charlie 110 Company, based in Stuttgart, Germany, but had been training in Croatia on an exercise known as “Jackal Stone.” The training involved counterterrorism exercises.
NO PERMISSION TO LAND
Military sources familiar with the orders given to the CIF team tell Fox News the CIF plane headed to Libya -- not to first stage at Sigonella as the Pentagon timeline suggests. The Pentagon denies this, saying simply that they were ordered to an intermediate staging base.
What cannot be confirmed is what time that team could have been outside Libyan air space. The Pentagon won’t say when they took off from Croatia.
Multiple defense sources say that the plane did not have permission to enter Libya. That permission would have to be secured from the Libyans by the State Department.
“FEET DRY OVER LIBYA”
Survivors of the attack at the annex say that they heard over the radio net that night that U.S. military assets were, “feet dry over Libya," which would refer to assets crossing from sea to land and hovering. The Pentagon denies this.
The original story board that shows the CIF movement that night is difficult to find, according to those who saw the original timeline. The official brief, according to those familiar with it, simply says that the plane landed at Sigonella at 7:57 p.m. on Sept. 12 -- 20 hours after the start of the attack, even though they were just a few hours away in Croatia.
This raises the question: what time did they get their orders and how long did it take the CIF to scramble?
The team was most likely flying on a modified MC-130 P Talon 2. A modified C-130 flying from Croatia about 900 miles from the Libyan coast could have been there under three hours from take-off. Croatia to Libya is the same distance approximately as Washington, D.C., to Miami.
Furthermore, the modified C-130 plane used by Special Operations teams can be refueled in flight, allowing them to extend their range and hover time, if an air refueling plane is available. It can fly for nine hours without being refueled.
“It’s not like you dial up the U.S. military and service members go down a fire pole, hop on a fire engine and go. That’s not how our forces work, especially from a cold start,” according to the senior U.S. defense official who briefed the Pentagon timeline. “We are an excellent military, finest in the world, always prepared, but we are neither omniscient nor omnipresent.”
The CIF, which included dozens of Special Operators, was never utilized to help rescue 30 Americans who had fought off attackers on the ground in Benghazi until 5:26 a.m. on Sept. 12. Pentagon officials say it did not arrive in time to help.
In the days following the attack in Benghazi, the CIF team was sent by Ham to Tunisia to remain on standby in case they were needed for other contingencies, such as a retaliatory strike, according to senior U.S. military commanders with knowledge of the operation.
“We were posturing forces to be ready for possible responses,” according to a senior U.S. defense official. “We were looking at the possibility of a potential hostage rescue.”
To date no retaliatory strikes have taken place, and questions remain about what could have been done to help those who were in peril on the ground.
According to the Pentagon timeline, the first conference call to AFRICOM, EUCOM, CENTCOM, TRANSCOM, SOCOM and the four military branches occurred nearly five hours after the attack began.
THE CIA RESCUE TEAM FROM TRIPOLI
Meanwhile in Libya, two hours and 48 minutes after the attack on the consulate began, a six-man rescue team organized by the CIA in Tripoli that included two Tier One Army Special Operators already in Tripoli on another assignment leave the capital to help.
However, they do not have a plane and end up chartering one too small to rescue the entire group in Benghazi and are required to make a round trip. They do not depart Benghazi with the last survivors and Ambassador Chris Stevens’ body until 10 a.m. the next day.
The CIA says that the Tripoli rescue team landed in Benghazi at 1:15 a.m. on Sept 12. The Pentagon says it landed at 1:30 a.m. Another official discrepancy.
More than four hours later, just before 5:26 a.m., former SEAL Glen Doherty, who arrived from Tripoli with the rescue team, and former SEAL Tyrone Woods are killed on the CIA annex roof by a mortar.
THE AMBASSADOR IS STILL MISSING
Security personnel at Blue Mountain Group receive a photograph of the ambassador’s body in a morgue at 7:15 a.m. At that point, Stevens’ body had still not been recovered from the hospital where Ansar Al Sharia, the presumed attackers, had surrounded it.
By 8:30 a.m., all KIA are accounted for, including the ambassador. The Pentagon’s critics say the president and defense secretary could have ordered more assets into Libya to help sooner.
Even by Wednesday morning, several challenges remained. Thirty Americans did not have a plane big enough to get them out of Benghazi; the U.S. consulate and CIA annex needed to be secured because sensitive documents remained at the consulate and annex; and an FBI team would eventually be held up in Tripoli and not be given access to the Benghazi sites for 24 days.
The two Marine FAST teams were not ordered to Libya until five hours after the attack was underway. The first FAST team didn’t arrive in Tripoli to secure the embassy until 8:56 p.m. on Sept. 12, nearly two hours after the rescued Americans had left Libya on a C-17 sent from Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The second FAST team of Marines slated to go to Benghazi was never sent to Libya. Libyan looters and journalists spent the next 24 days rifling through papers and potential evidence at the compounds.
According to the senior U.S. defense official who briefed reporters on the timeline, “There has been a great deal of speculation about the use of or desirability of military responses. Some have indicated manned and unmanned aircraft options would have changed the course of events. Unfortunately, no aircraft options were available to be used or effective.”
According to a source who debriefed those who were at the CIA annex that night, “When they asked for air support, they were told they could have an unarmed drone.”
That's one long post. Thanks I needed something to read.
@scottyyyy- seriously-- couldn't have the cliff note version?
yes..yes.. and 9/11 was an inside job. eye witnesses report seeing timed explosions as the buildings fell, and other EYE witness saw a missle hit the pentagon....
not a single person in your entire story there was named. why you believe un-named and unaccountable sources over official sources says more about you, than the official sources.
The cliff note is Obummers sending us back into another recesion, or another 16 cazillionbazillion or more
in taxes my great, great great grandchildren will have to pay back, thank to you and the worthless 52% of the unamerican people. How can Obummer say With so much of the american vote people want this and that, excuse my tard but you got 52% not 99% so the other 48% think your @!$%#
What a stupid waste of time! Ain't nothing you can say or do change what has happened. Look ahead, not behind!
Sweep it under the rug, huh malcontented ? People died and the President LIED ... trying desperately to lay blame elsewhere, knowing full well he was distorting the truth (LYING).
Obama put the investigation AFTER the election for political reasons.
I have gone through these posts and I am amazed by those who say Obama lies. If Obama lies, then what can we say about Mitt, who could not keep from lying or flip flopping if his life depended on it. You never knew which Mitt was going to speak. Mitt said Obama should have never given a 2014 date to end war on several occasions, then in the last debate he said war should end in 2014. Was asked twice about equal pay for women and never answered question, then after an outcry, said he would not repel the bill that the Pres. signed for equal pay for women. Said on various occasions he would reverse Roe v. Wade, then said he would not. Two days b/4 the election had a commercial in Ohio about Jeep manufacturing being sent to China, which was a lie. and Chysler CEO said so. Said he did not care about 47% of American, then later said he cared about 100% of Americans. I could go on, but you see and all of you know this is true, so you know what keep saying Obama is a liar, I take him any day before I would want someone like Romnesia.
lu, You need to put down the bong .... you are all over the place with no cohesion whatsover !
The Romney ad said there would be Jeep manufacturing in China. It did not say jobs were being "sent there" with the implication they would be tasken FROM the U.S. ! That was a libbie distortion.
By the way, there are plans to build a Jeep manufacturing plant in China. Deal with it.
Romney lied 533 times in one 30 week period. That is 2 a day! If you are upset about lying there is a good place to start. Then move on to McConnel.
Patricia Paulson, you sound like a typical tebagger type of person, who believes lies you have been fed by the GOP teabaggers!! Only 5% of the total population of the U.S. are "welfare" people! I.E. people who live off the system and don't look for jobs etc. Futhermore, Welfare was reformed a few years ago, and if you are on it and have more babies, you don't get anymore money! Also, you have to have a legitimate ss # to get welfare (and with all the people now on it due to the economy that Bush ruined and the President inherited, I'm sure they really check out ss numbers) so illegals can't get welfare or medical benefits. Yes, they may get free schooling but most schools in the US are "public" and free to everyone to go there. We do pay taxes for schoools and I think that is all the more reason to let the illegals, who have been here before the economic crisis even happened, become tax payers if they want to be US citizens! If we kept even half the estimated 12 million illegals in this country, don't you think the tax revenue from those 6 million new taxpayers would put a dent in the defecit? I do! So what if they want to better their way of life? The US is known as "the land of opportunity" you racist!
The illegals don't currently pay taxes. The go to school - for free. They go to emergency rooms - skip out - for free. They use our roads - yet don't pay taxes. There are all kinds of things they use but don't pay for. They are illegal. There are millions of legal immigrants who follow the rules. Great. Welcome. If you are illegal, go home!
Over 50% of the citizens in this country are receiving government help!! No, I think most if not all will be on gov assistance. Think about that term "racist" Because I disagree I'm a racist??? Well I think the 99% of blacks and 78% of Hispanics are RACIST!!
If you think that illegals cant get welfare, unemployment and retirement benefits, Sharong61, you are DUMBER than your picture looks, you sound like another one that just because i think Obummer is the worst president in my 54 years of life, I'm too, I'm sure a racist, you idiot
sharong61,
While I agree with your post! I also believe that the Democrats are just as bad. Their are no good politicians.
The Tea-Bags will oppose Immigration Reform, not because of racism, but because of voter registration. They know that Hispanic population is the fastest growing minority group. The T-Bags already have a hard enough time getting their fanatical candidates elected now. They don't want any more potential Democrat voters to contend with.
Peope are cra-zy,
Here is what the Hispanic community is really saying:
We vote for the rich white man...why?...easy, rich people hire us, and we NEED JOBS!
Don't believe me? Go to San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson, Houston, Yuma, or San Diego and find a Home Depot and ask the guys out there waiting for a job, who hires them and who they would vote for if they could. (If you don't know what the hell I am typing about, well that pretty much sums it all up).
Or you could just ask me...a 'rich so I must be racist' Native American and Hispanic...who I voted for and who all my relatives voted for and who all my friends voted for and I'll tell you who we all voted for. We vote for the guy who would bring real jobs to our country and not the guy who only promises more welfare and division.
Thank you very much...gente son lo-cos!
Nobody ever got a job from a poor person UNLESS they work at the welfare office. I work for small business and believe me the outlook there is NOT GOOD. Problem is, the Hispanic vote turned out for the welfare state and NOT someone who would create jobs when 1 in 10 Hispanics are small business owners. This is lunacy. We get jobs from the rich, overtax them and atlas WILL shrug. I have not had a pay increase in 4 years and WHERE do I go for a better paying job?
Funny thing, compromise is only when a republican gives up on his values, NEVER a democrat....if they did they would be a turn coat.
Cheers noneoftheabovein08=====well said.
Obama drone spotted! Wish I could TAX the bat crap out of you and see what happens to your livelyhood.
Drop the racism garbage will ya, it is patriotic to disagree, just listen to Hillary, you know, the GAL who puts her pants on one leg at a time.
You idi0ts who keep saying the rich will leave, yada yada...should smoke a little more crack. If they cannot afford 3% more on taxes over 250k then maybe they should leave. Morons like you would rather see cuts to nursing home care? Or should be abolish the Dept. of Education? Stop corrupting this great countries political dialogue with your careless, selfish, satan serving ideology. We in America are in this together. Stop trying to divide us.
Obama divided us when he passed his Obamacare without ANY GOP votes, that's how we got divided. It's up to him to LEAD. We will not leave, we will make the people who work for us pay more, less hours, no raises ect... See there's something you Dems don't understand, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I'm going to find out who voted for Obama and is employed for the time being by me. They will be the first out the door. Now that's change I can believe in.
@Raul Duke, stop listening to that dude Maddow. The country is divided and will remain so as long as the class warrior in chief is doing it Gangman style with the country's checkbook. I believe that his huge margin of reelection is an indicator that, yes we are very much a divided country.
Nobody is closing the Dept of Ed, although it should be and the states should be allowed to run their schools. The feds do little to run nursing homes. Unless you are talking about Medicare, which I believe that $700mil in "efficiencies" were diverted away from the fund and into ObamaCare. But hey, you all will get your beloved tax increase. Then see what happens.
Can't tell if troll, or an actual anti-democratic monster of an employer. In any case, reported and ignored.
Why would they leave? It's not gonna hurt 'em and it ain't gonna help America. Besides it's not the rich people saying they'll leave, it's the haters.
Might as well abolish the Dept. of Education. Reading the mind numbingly stupid posts by some of these T-Bag people demonstrates that education was wasted on them.
Raul Duke,
Since you're so self-righteous, why don't you volunteer 3% more of your own money to the federal deficit. Cut them a check, post it so we can all see it (bank deposit stamp of course, not that you'll lie or anything, just so no one can accuse you of lying).
When you do that it'll certainly teach us self-serving selfish pigs to start following in your great and noble footsteps.
This article completely spun what he said. The article was posted before he was even done speaking. That really pisses me off. My advice is that if you want to hear what politicians or anyone actually said, watch it live.
But when they are live they really don't SAY anything. They just spout rhetoric that THEIR people will believe!
Both sides will need accept things they might not like. Taxes are going up for some people. Programs some people like are going to be reduced or cut. I am not in the 2% but if I have to take a small tax hike to help reduce the budget, I can live with it, as long as the people making more than me also have a small tax hike.
Pat in Atl - that's the issue, right now there's no plan on the table to cut anything. The only thing that's going to get cut is defense. Social programs won't get touched and probably will be increased. He said today, he would "consider looking at entitlements" that's Demspeak for it ain't happening. Here's what's going to happen. House is going to give in and let the Bush Tax Cuts go for the $250k and up group. That money will evaporate very quickly in the name of "investments" ie more spending. The deficit won't go down, and probably will increase. House Republicans up for re-election are going to go back to their districts and get hammered because the didn't hold the line. House swings back Dem and it's PARTY TIME. Capital Gains 50%, Estate Tax 55%, Investment transaction fee's 25% Cap and Trade, you betcha. Coal companies regulated out of business. Hell who needs them. Public option for healthcare as most Ins companies will be Chapter 11. Amnesty for illegals...oh yeah baby and when they pick up their citizenship card, make sure they fill out their voter registration card as well.....Its a beautiful ppicture....pure nirvana.
First with neither side having full control, all the paranoia thoughts in your mind will never happen. Nothing will get done without both side agreeing. And nothing is better than what the Republicans want to do. Bottom line, neither side has a "mandate". Democrats are going to have to accept program reductions and cuts. Republicans are going to have to accept tax increases. And I hope if someone on either side refuses to compromise, the are told to leave the room.
There have been continual tax increases since Barry first took office, done through EO's and healthcare. Who did it affect? The very folks Barry claims to a champion of. This is just noise about income tax, not the decimation of small - middle businesses and the middle class. It will have NO affect taxing the "rich"
