Top Talkers: After re-election, House Speaker John Boehner says he believes the House GOP and President Obama will find common ground "to avoid the fiscal cliff." Boehner is also talking less harshly about the president's signature health care law.
Updated 6 p.m. ET - Republicans' efforts to undo President Barack Obama's health care reform law appear to have come to an end, as House Speaker John Boehner described it Thursday as the "law of the land."
In an interview with ABC News, the nation's top elected Republican seemed to indicate that Congress wouldn't engage in the type of repeated repeal votes the way it had in the past two years. Boehner's office provided a transcript of the exchange:
SAWYER:
A couple of other questions about the agenda now. You have said next year that you would repeal the healthcare vote. That's still your mission?
BOEHNER:
Well, I think the election changes that. It's pretty clear that the president was reelected, Obamacare is the law of the land. I think there are parts of the healthcare law that are gonna be very difficult to implement. And very expensive. And as the time when we're tryin' to find a way to create a path toward a balanced budget everything has to be on the table.
SAWYER:
But you won't be spending the time next year trying to repeal Obamacare?
BOEHNER:
There certainly may be parts of it that we believe-- need to be changed. We may do that. No decisions at this point.
The speaker's pronouncement, if nothing else, signifies a pivot away from Republicans' efforts to showcase for conservatives their doggedness in looking to repeal "Obamacare."
It's also a recognition that the 2009-2010 health care law that came to define Obama's first term in office -- and propel Republicans to a majority in the House -- is here to stay.
A spokesman for Boehner sought to clarify the speaker's comments.
"While ObamaCare is the law of the land, it is costing us jobs and threatening our health care," said Kevin Smith, the speaker's communications director. "Speaker Boehner and House Republicans remain committed to repealing the law, and he said in the interview it would be on the table."
The Supreme Court's summer 2012 ruling upholding the constitutionality of the law disarmed conservatives of one of their best possible chances of defeating the health care law once and for all.
And Mitt Romney's loss on Tuesday meant that Republicans won't have in the White House a president that could severely limit the scope of the law before its key provisions begin to take effect in 2014.
House Speaker John Boehner reacts to the re-election of President Barack Obama, while pushing for a "balanced approach" to solving America's debt issues.
Welcome to the world of part-time jobs.
Part time jobs and no jobs!!!

I'm pretty sure President Obama is going to have something to say about that.
If some companies try to exploit loop holes and things of that sort, it won't take long to enact a plan to counter such a scheme.
Companies have to file Income Tax Returns too. If a company has all its employees on part time only, it's probably not going to look too good to the Feds.
Of course he will. He is a dictator, remember. A company has the right to hire and fire anyone they want. And if Obama tries to interfere, it is a case for the Supreme Court because it is going against individual rights.
Thanks America ... idiots!
So you really think it is a good thing for the feds to be running our businesses? How far we've fallen from the land of the free and the home of the brave. Fed's regulating everything and leaving it's ambassador to die in Libya.
You already live in the world of part-time jobs and have been for many years. Maybe you just were not aware of that. Ask a Walmart employee about their health insurance. Why do you think so many working people did not have health insurance?
All you neocons are right, if people can't afford to get their own health insurance, just let them DIE, right?
Isn't that the Republican way, if you aren't rich, you should just DIE?
Many jobs I have seen in recent years are contract positions. 6 months to a year with the option to renew should the hiring company choose to do so. The thing that strikes me is that these type of jobs have become more prevalent, and that they do not offer health care benefits.
This may be the new "normal."
you people need to understand how business works. the cost of labor is not whats important. the ability to sell their product is. if people are buying their product they are going to employ as many people as needed to produce that product. the health care law is not going to cause any joob loss. this was the argument when social security and medicade came about. proved to be very wrong. this is the argument everytime the minumum wage goes up, has proven time and time again to be very wrong
please check history. tax cuts don't create jobs and health care is not gonna cost jobs
Not as bad as being a d-ck taster, such as those who are s--king off the Billionaire donors
Maybe these things should have been thought about before passing the law. Every action has a re-action, and you liberals think you can just take to people and they aren't going to change their behavior. You counter such a scheme with a new law, companies counter with a new scheme, new law, new scheme, new law, new scheme, and so on and so on until you get what we have now, tens of thousands of pages of tax code, regulations, bureaucracy, all of which make job creation harder and more expensive. And you wonder why companies ship jobs overseas.
A person with a defeatist attitude are already defeated.
Still peddling the GOP mantra I see....
What's being missed is that businesses that actually intend to be successful will have to have employees in place to perform the work, and doing it all with underemployed part-timers will prove to not be in their own self-interest. If some use the ACA as their excuse, somebody will see the opportunity and step up and do what it takes to run a business that will succeed (and I don't mean WalMart). Business has used their labor force as a scapegoat long enough, time to step up and treat their employees the way they want to be treated. That's the 'Golden Rule', something that's sadly lacking in the 'Christian' GOP....
It appears that the GOP is looking at the Democrats polling data today (seeing how their data is somewhat flawed...LOL) and finally starting to face reality. About time....
Sour grapes, from a bunch of sour grapes. We won. You lost. Elections have consequences, and the one of the consequences of this election is you Tea Baggers are going to accept the fact that we, like EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED NATION has a national healthcare plan that covers all, or almost all of its population. It works in plenty of other countries, so get over it. You lost the election of 2008. You lost in the Supreme Court when they upheld the law. And now you lost in 2012. This can only mean that the majority of people WANT a national healthcare plan of some type. Once again, you LOST, now get over it.
It is time to stop crying about the election, Boehner did.
Yea, Punish those job creators even more!!!! That will work! Don't even go through Congress to do it, just use Executive orders!
10% unemployment under Reagan and he's the republican god.
7.9% following the worst economic collapse in 70 years and Obama isnt doing enough for jobs.
LOL you people are ridiculous
Laura-313822
companies are as strong as their workforce and most already recognize that they have to stay competitive with compensation + benefits. I doubt that they will start hiring part-time to save on providing health insurance. If that was the case, they wouldn't have had provided health insurance benefits when it was VOLUNTARY.
Unless, of course, you are referring to Wal-Mart but Wal-Mart has been working people at 35hrs/week to keep them "part-time" for decades now so no worries there.
You people crack me up.
Time and time again I've seen one statement come from a representative (or candidate) and a completely different statement follow quickly from staffers. Who do these people think they are, and more importantly, who the pluck is paying their salaries? HCRA is the law of the land -period-
Boehner temporarily sobered up and faced reality for a little bit. Let's give him some small credit for it for now. I would like to think he may have a bi-partisan bone in his body, but history doesn't look good in regards to that. Still, hope does spring eternal.
@ Laura-313822,
What a stupid comment! Have you ever talked to someone that works at Staples? I have and I do, we work part time for minimum wage! My manager makes $9 an hour, what the hell was you expecting Romney to do he isn't already doing?
Sure glad Boner finally came around to facts. :)
Own a business do ya? I didn't think so. Of course labor cost is important, salaries, taxes, healthcare, that stuff adds up and needs to be covered by profit on the product or service being sold. Would you pay $10 for a can of coke? Of course not, so Coke Cola doesn't pay their people $35 an hour because that cost would need to be covered by their product and no one would buy their product if it was too expensive.
@ Roosterboy,
The sad thing is Republican's lost in Ohio but Democrats didn't run anyone against Boehner, no one ran against him and I wanted him gone for his lack of work and excess drinking. We need people in Washington that spend more time working and less time drinking.
How much are the people at Solyndra making? Yea that's right their business went bust, just like the American economy. People who work at staples have it better then the 23 million Americans out of work so shut it.
Yes, the country has lost and we'll get over it as soon as the takers realize that they have become the majority and the makers can no longer support the promises the Dems bribed you with. The pendulum will swing the other way eventually and it may be sooner than you think. I vote for both parties, but do believe in small government and self reliance for all those that have no excuse other than making poor choices and having a lack of ambition. Obama has to face the music now and he is ill prepared. Your taxes will go up now, it's just a matter of Obama making the announcement. Every child born today is born with a national debt of over $210,000 and it will continue to climb under Santa Claus in the White House. Just like Bush, Obama will leave office and live a great life, unaffected by his own policies and agenda.
Nevada-Brett
You are MORE than welcome Brett LMAOFOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, you should really be thanking ALL Republicans everywhere but especially the Tea Party members and of course, Grover Norquist.
Re: American girl: Do tell what plan will Obama enact to force companies to hire full time employees. Martial law ?
LogicRequired - You Fail a simple logical test. Re-read the original post (and your quote) " the ability to sell their product is." (whats important). Your example shows a price that (accroding to you)would impede Coke Cola from selling their product, and is therefore outside the scope of the scenario.
Also consider that the price on anything today is such that our forefathers would never have been able to conveive of paying the price. Could someone in 1930 pay $4/gallon for Gas? Yet people today, do. PArt of this is inflaction and devaluation of currency, but that is not the whole story.
Are you really that dumb? When Reagan ran for re election unemployment was under 7.5% and the economy was creating twice as many jobs as the current "recovery". Both Reagan and Obama had unemployment get up to over 10%, Reagan was able to bring it down by creating jobs, Obama has brought it down by not counting people in the labor force anymore. Seriously, what a stupid comment.
Yes everyone is going to be self employed or on a 1099 now. Small businesses with say, 1 to 6 employees that are just making by right now can no longer survive. The small business anchor of America is gone. Only a few very successful mid sized or large corporations with overseas presence, which everyone hates so much and call the terrible rich folks, will be able to offer this. So it is written. So it it is the law of the land. So it is done So it is the 21st century. :(
This is no surprise. I believed that everyone would have to be self employed, working for an international corporation, or collecting off the system as far back as 2002. The outsourcing alone dictates that these are the only options.
Sorry conner-389725, but labor costs are the highest cost most businesses have to deal with. Hiring people is the last thing they want to do, and when they have no other choice, they will do everything they can to keep labor/benefit costs down. This is why companies don't want to provide medical coverage and why they hire part-time and contract employees.
Why do you think so many companies automate everything they can and run their exempt employees into the ground before hiring more?
But, I do agree w you: "tax cuts don't create jobs and health care is not gonna cost jobs" ... it's proven.
Although you might want to recognize that corporate taxes and expenses are simply passed on (indirectly) to customers through higher prices.
Hear that? That's the sound of more jobs being shipped overseas. Nice going, libs.
Don't waste your time on the righties, they still don't get it why Romney lost so badly, and they never will, all they see hate. We may not of liked Romney, but hate has never came into the picture, that's the difference between the right and left, you are truly a sad bunch people.

...welcome to obamacare..a 1 yr wait for a colonoscopy just as we have here in canada where socialized medicare has been around for 40 yrs
American Girl-You are totally uniformed. When the reality of Obama's great healthcare plan finally sinks in and you understand what it is going to do to businesses in this country.... I can tell by your comment you have no idea how it works or why it's bad. Obama made a law that says to all businesses they have to offer and pay for healthcare for their full time employees. They don't have to keep workers as full time. They can and will cut workers hours to make them part time employees. Reason: THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR HEALTHCARE. This isn't a loophole.
I know a married couple that each has a small business. A hair business and a little tiny coffee drive thru. They only work for themselves-no employees. They don't think they will be able to continue now with the Obamacare law. They will not be able to afford to live now because they now have to pay for healthcare. This is about as easy as it gets. When you just make enough money to live on you cannot afford the additional expense. Obamacare is going to hurt small business in a very big way. You watch the unemployment numbers are going up and full time jobs are going to be very hard to find in small companies. So from the monthly income they have they now have to budget over 1000.00 for health insurance. That is a lot of money to a lot of people in this country. Most of us don't have an extra 500.00 or 1,000.00 laying around for this. Are you getting this? This is not a good thing.
If you are saying labor cost doesn't matter then go ahead and stick with that, it is a stupid statement and NO ON IN BUSINESS will agree with. The ability to sell your product is important, but what is more important is the ability to sell your product for a profit to cover your cost plus some. You liberals forget about profit, the higher the labor cost the less the profit the less money you have for expansion, advertisement, updating processes and equipment, not to mention if you are publicly traded people don't buy your stock to see how much you can pay your employees before going into the red, they buy your stock for a return. Try reading a book or taking a class, I don't have time to go over high school economics with you.
This is all FOX baloney. Read:

I guess I should qualify my last statement. Even though Boehner is playing nice at this very moment, the Democrats should really be laying the groundwork right now to put a better candidate than him in his Ohio district, so that he will be voted out in 2014. His record is just too awful to hope for a sudden reformation of his soul. It's a really bad bet that he will change his ways. So, let's go after his Ohio district with everything we've got. Boehner, thanks for the decent and polite gesture, but at the end of the day, you have done so much damage to this country that you have lost everyone's trust.
Continually amused by the conservatives--who accuse liberals of being lazy, government-happy, welfare lovers--whining about jobs and how Obama hasn't found one for them yet. Get over yourselves, get off your ass, and go find a job. I have never had trouble finding one, and I've moved around quite a bit. You favor the private sector and government staying out, right? Wasn't your campaign motto a smear of one of Obama's misinterpreted quotes--"We built that"? So go build your jobs! Do you need Obama's permission to go back to school or update your resume and make yourselves useful? Never in my life have I heard a passel of childish, spoiled, entitled brats like the conservatives of today.
Obamacare will do WONDERS for private health insurance companies, believe me. That's the one qualm I have with it--still leaves too much control in the hands of those corporations. They know it, too--believe me, I worked for one for two years, right when the bill first passed. They were ALL FOR IT. What I don't get is why people think that Big Corporation is any less terrifying than Big Government. We all know the role the private sector played in the economic downturn is HUGE, we also know the government bailout of the auto industry saved thousands of jobs. It's time to put a stop to unbridled corporations swindling us all and shipping our jobs overseas and giving their corrupt CEOs astronomical bonuses, even when they go bankrupt. Neither am I a proponent of big government, but there is a balance to be made.
Heya Progressives, let the posters know how your Company's Insurance is working out for you next year, that is......IF YOU HAVE A JOB.
When the dust settles, welcome to a One Health Care Provider......the GOVERNMENT.....and managed by non-medical GS-3/4s in the DSHS.
Big Daddy Bobama will just pull some more Union Money out of his wallet and pay for this right? And when that runs out as taxpayer money has, the Chineese will still fund Bobama right?
I don't hate Obama, nor am I mad that Romney lost. What I'm mad at is watching people who I work with get laid off because of Obama's policies. What I hate is you talking about the victory of the middle class without even acknowledging the middle class hasn't had things get better for them over the last four years they have gotten worse. Higher energy cost, higher health costs, lower wages, record number of people on food stamps, ect.., ect... Talk is cheap, why don't you guys start producing some results! Or are you going to blame Bush for another four years?
To every college or high school graduate that cant find a job for the next 4 years, and to every person who gets layed off in the next 4 years, the answer is simple. When you walk out into the parking lot of your walmart or the last time you walk out of your previous employer's parking lot just look for the Obama stickers on the cars. Those are the people you can thank for you being unemployed.

Drop the Fox fearmongering.
Pretty funny how Logic and BB427 and JCL whine about jobs going overseas..
while repubs on 7-19-2012 blocked the bill that would remove tax breaks for companies that take America jobs overseas.
On 7-19-2012 the repub blocked the same bill that would give tax breaks to companies that would bring jobs back to America.
Romney's profitable Bain company has perfected the art of destroying American jobs in America, sending the jobs overseas, then setting up companies off shore that receive the profits, then keep those profits offshore to avoid paying taxes to America......
Only Repubs are to blame for American Jobs going overseas.....No ifs and or BUTTS about it!
30% of employers said they would pay the fine and dump their employee health care coverage if Obama care passed. Don't know if that will actually happen but if it does you are going to have to explain how this is going to help?
By the way, Obama care was suppose to be debt neutral, new CBO reports showing it costing twice as much as reported.

"tax cuts don't create jobs"
AMEN! A few weeks ago, I hit a Republican friend of mine with that line and I even prefaced it with "By themselves,". Man, did we ever get into it; the ensuing argument almost cost me that friend. Memo to self: no more political talk with that particular individual. Going forward, I'll be sticking to golfing, beers, and sports talk with him.

I don't about all this talk of companies trying to thumb their noses at the law because they don't like what the law says. If it were as simple as "not liking" some of our laws and civil obiedience was an option, I'm sure folks would be breaking the law left and right, and some probably do.
But I do know that every job I ever had in my entire working life has always, traditionally, offered some type health care, the companies got into group plans that saved money for the employees, and passed along the cost of that health care on to the employees.
Some employers paid 1/2 the cost as a "fringe benefit" to entice people to work for them, and the employee paid the other half.
I don't how, when or why some companies just decided they didn't even want to pay 1/2 anymore, but obviously when they did that, it caused enough problems for the United States Congress to be forced to intervene.

"obamacare" is not the law for me. i do not recognize the authority the federal goverment is using. no where in the US constitution does it give the power to force citizens to purchase a product or service nor can they compel a citizen to enter into contract. i will use the second amendment to defend my liberty from tyranny.
how are you free when you are being told to buy something for just being alive?
i see the left is using the old "we won, you lost" argument again, i feel sorry for those who see government as the solution. you voted for a guy who still does not have any experience at being a leader or anything else positive, hes still a below average lawyer.
Weren't you just defending GM and Obama a couple of days ago? Oh yea when they do it it's for opening up markets, but everyone else is evil. I don't care about jobs going overseas, if I owned a company and the U.S. government kept screwing me I would move too. I complain that they have to move because of stupid POLICIES. IT IS A POLICY ISSUE LIBERALS, nothing personal against Obama or democrats, it's just your ideas and policies that suck!
Welcome to Socialized Medicine... you voted for it, now enjoy it. Yes, everyone will 'have' health insurance, but we will ALL pay the price. Those of us who have worked our entire life for a retirement and health plan will now have to pay for this FREE coverage for those of you who haven't earned it. As a retired person I still spend $1000 / month for health coverage even with my medical coverage.. even with Medicare. Who is going to pay for my family, certainly not those freeloaders who seek only 'that which is OWED them? Obamacare is only the first step to a change to Socialism... Not the American way.. Sleep tight America, your end has been foretold.
You are correct. And the IRS has the right to audit that company for the next 15,000 years. Also "We the People" through our locally elected representatives have the power to "Execute" that company by revoking it's authority to do business.
Accepting the obvious does not make the obvious superior. Time will tell.
American Girl-724855
Of course he will....Bush did it
Would you like some cheese with that whine?
Clinton, Holder, and the Secretary of Treasury are all jumping ship....
MIZZ C - Healthcare coverage is a cost of doing business, if your friends can't make it and afford health insurance too then they don't know how to factor that in, as a cost of running a business. My husband and I have a micro-small business - 2 employees=us - insurance for us (60+ age) & our 21 year old son runs $1224.00 a month!! A lot, Yes! But we factor that into our pricing structure. And our premiums have actually come down since ACA has started to take effect and out of pocket medical costs have gone down, because mamograms, PAP's & colonoscopies are now covered free!!
Tax increases do? If you were a business, would you be more inclined to hire knowing you would be paying more or less in taxes over the next few years?
Boehner has two choices start being his own man and control these radicals that think they own the country or keep being the yes man drunkard he has been the last 4 years.
Either way the Country will move Forward without the republican party in due time.
It's heartening to see Boehner is giving up on his fruitless quest to take down the national health care program. Perhaps now he and the rest of the House Republicans will join the Dems in working to come up with solutions to America's problems instead of adding to them.
Logic....would you like to stop pointing the finger at Dems and playing the fake rant that the economy problems are because of dems....IT all goes back to the night that President Obama took office....15 republicons met at the Caucus room restaurant to pledge against the recovery of the American economy.
Republicons Pledging to vote against every bill that would make President Obama a one term president. Paul Ryan, Cantor, Newt Gingrich taking the pledge like traitors to their oath of office.
Republicons then created over 300 filibusters, a record amount, trying to stop the economy from recovering....
Then people like Logic come on this blog and complain about the econmy that republicons successfully slowed down, did not recover fast enough.......Boo........HOO! Repubs crying crocodile tears....
Fine. If corporations want to settle for sub-standard products, and they're willing to pay the taxes that should come with offshoring around the HCRA, then they're welcome to knock themselves out. We know goons like you will keep buying their crap.
My House of Representative is a Republican Doctor against healthcare for all. In my view, that is like a cop against protecting law and order. Thank You, East Tennessee for 4 more years of Dr. No, Phil Roe.
What a difference a SHELLACKING makes!
That is true Sailcat, Boehner is giving up on his Don Quixote quest against health care reform. Boehner fought against the windmill and the windmill won!
Small Company and you obviously care about the employees since your the employees. But imagine if you were a company who had thousands, and by dumping healthcoverage you could pay a $2,000 fine instead of a $6,000 health cost. The health care act has made it so companies win and empoyees lose.
No matter what any of the smarty pants "experts" above say, this illegal legislation WILL cost us jobs. I know of several small business owners that will be reducing staff or going out of business altogether solely from this one thing.
Plus, it will not matter what ANY of us think about this. The Marxist Dictator WILL have his way. I thought that there were only TWO possible appointments to the SCOTUS but I saw an article today that there may be as many as FOUR. With that sort of sway we are TOTALLY SCREWED.
All you people that voted for the Obummer think he has got your back. Pfffffft. Obama does NOT care about us: never has and never will. You will not be remembered and will suffer with the rest of us.
Republicans thrive on lies and deception. Germany, Britain, Canada, Australia and Switzerland are countries that share with all other 1st world countries except the United States in having national health care yet they all have lower unemployment than us. Australia even has a $15 minimum wage though republicans claim our $7 an hour wage is far too high. Countries without national health care include China and North Korea. Having employee's isn't an option whether it costs more or not. It's kind of silly when billionaires sent their employees notices that if Obama was re elected they could lose their jobs as he couldn't afford higher taxes. Then shut it down others will take your place. They didn't get to be billionaires by being over taxed.
these are the people who voted for obama....nothing but children.
So your saying 15 Republicans who had no control of the House, Senate, or Presidency have more power then Democrats who had all three? Oh god are we doomed if you people believe this!
Why are Republicans such victims? Yes companies can come up with a scheme to bypass the law. And the government can revoke their authorization to conduct business. And the business can move overseas and the Government can refuse to let them import goods.
I getting a little sick of Republicans whining about how tough the government is on businesses and the wealthy. When I was about 5 years old the top tax rate was over 90% and businesses did not close down. The wealthy didn't move, they just did what they've always done and got richer.
@Starsailing,
I've made a pledge with a bunch of Republicans in my neighborhood this latest election, so I guess Obama won't accomplish anything again. After all we have about as much power as the Republicans did Obama's first two years.
The good thing about the election is that Obama is going to held accountable for his own mistakes and his wrong policies, economic, energy, foreign are no more Bush fault. The time is ticking and the economy he never fix will go down the cliff.
We are looking at this all wrong. If you can`t stop the system, overwhelm the system. It`s going to emplode over time anyway.
First off let's get the facts straight and cut out all the propoganda BS. Obamacare (ACA) does not provide insurance to anyone!!!!! It requires you to buy it. If you cannot afford insurance today, you will not be able to afford insurance in 2014, therefore, you will still not have insurance, but you will be paying a fine to the IRS. Same thing goes for companies. If they cannot afford it today, they will not be able to afford it in 2014. But now they will be paying huge fines. So would somebody please explain to me why they think Obamacare has solved anything? If he passed a law saying everyone had to buy a $400,000 house, would you all be saying Obama has given everyone a really nice house? Moronic....
When you were 5 years old Europe was in pieces from war, China had no cars, and no one even knew where India was on a map. There is a little more economic competition these days, and companies can do business from anywhere in the world. As Obama said, it's a different world then when you were 5 and Moses was building a boat for some flood.
Welcome to U.S.S.A. - United Socialist States of America

Anyone, liberal or conservative, who is comparing Obamacare to socialized medicine is DEAD WRONG. The power still lies with health insurance companies. They will set your rates and your benefits. Private sector, just like the Republicans want. Only now they can't deny you coverage for pre-existing conditions, so everyone qualifies--and everyone PAYS IN. More money for health insurance companies, and more people to spread the risk, and everyone has equal access to what SHOULD be a basic right--healthcare.
The stupidity on this thread is astounding. You people must be living pretty large if you think that healthcare wasn't in deep @!$%# before Obama came along. We have the WORST healthcare in the developed world. There are several third-world countries who have better healthcare than we do. That's accounting for cost, accessibility, quality of care--everything.
Additionally, I'm really unclear as to why you think Romney would have done any better. HE IMPLEMENTED ALMOST THE EXACT SAME MOTHER F*CKING PLAN IN MASSACHUSETTS. If he did get away with repealing Obamacare, do you have any idea what that would do to the system? And then he'd just turn around implement the exact same thing with a different name, you morons would eat it up, and the system would just have to re-do everything! SERIOUSLY GET YOUR HEADS CHECKED.
Wow people never get enough bashing Obama. Prices are higher under Obama than they were Bush. Doh. Prices were higher under Bush than they were under Clinton, it's called inflation. As for food stamps they also hit all time highs under Bush I didn't see the posts commenting on it then, why now? Bush dumped 5 million people on unemployment, of course more people are on food stamps.

I AGREE! Find a Government program and sign up for your piece of the hand out pie, after all it will be all gone soon.
Obamacare is the law of the land? yeah, well so are the Immigration laws that are for the most part being ignored. i guess they will enforce or not enforce laws depending upon which action will result in corporate profit

What? You mean we're going to finally have an open discussion about Bush and the Republicans, or did you plan to skip over all that and play like Democrats are the only ones who are capable of making any "mistakes"?
Republicans are just gonna never let that go; the horrible failed policies of the entire 8 years of Bush and Republicans and their forcing the entire United States into the 2nd Great Depression.
Wait, are Republicans still planning to make all "mistakes" retroactive so that you can blame President Obama for everything Bush destroyed?

My company currently has open enrollment. In a notice regarding the ACA, we already provided almost all the requirements under ACA, so very little changes. In fact, the only change occurs under flexible spending accounts where the limit is reduced.
So either my company has been responsible in providing the workers with the healthcare they should have, or the "end of days" predictions from the right are a little over-exaggerated. I'm guessing the later.
Honestly, every small business owner I know is not concerned about the healthcare law . . . they are concerned with the difficulty in getting capital. That does not mean they want all regulations removed, they simply want to tone them down a little so that the banks do not kill them with financing. That is the responsible, moderate reaction. Not complete removal, just middle ground.
But again, I know a lot of responsible small business owners who already provide good health care to their employees... even if that means their own paycheck is slightly smaller than it could be. So the ACA does not concern them. It's nice to know the responsible employers will continue to succeed while the overly-greedy ones will struggle with the new law. Even more ironic, these same greedy conservatives practice a religion that considers greed a sin.

Are you liberals going to blame Bush for the next 50 years, be real . For how long Reagan blame his predecessor. Obama want to be hired to fix the economy , not to blame others for his failure. Nobody hire a CEO with that attitude.
Tony best part is insurance agents such as myself who rely on group insurance will be out of a job in 4-6 years.
1. Mandates = higher costs = Gov't Option
example: mandated age ratios=== 3 to 1 ratio for 20yr old vs 60 yr old people currently its approx 6 to 1 so a 20yr old costs $100 the 60 yr old will cost $600. Under Obamacare the 20 yr old will jump to $200 and the 60 yr old who costs a lot to insure will stay at $600. Costs to employees and employers will jump.
As rates sky rocket the new gov't moto is the insurance companies are evil and we need to fix this thus the $50 office call , $2,000 deductible gov't plan will be put into place.
Since agents are not part of the exchanges or the gov't option we loose.
Since the gov't can subsidize its costs this will eventually put the Major Med carriers out of business since they can't compete.
2. Pay insurance or pay the fine
example: fine = approx $416 per employee if the cost of insurance is $500 per month then it is cheaper to pay the fine. When the employee goes to the "exchange" online and purchases insurance I as an agent just lost my group and most or all its members to the internet.
That is two small examples why over 200,000 health agents will be adding to the 47 million on food stamps
Thanks Obama from myself and my wife & kids

You call yourself logicrequired then stoop to lies and twisting facts to make a point. Reagan faced a recession but no meltdown in banks, housing and financial institutions, far different scenario. As someone who was an adult when Reagan was president you're seriously misinformed. Reagan spent his way out of the recession by massive spending. Increasing our carrier task forces from 3 to 10, a massive star wars program and massive military build up which was the most massive military peacetime build up in history. In today's dollars Obama would have had to spend 10 trillion or more to equal what Reagan did. Can you see republicans supporting that? That's not an option today and you know it. As for the Obama not counting those no longer looking you're a fool. They use the same data as Reagan did they count people applying for unemployment. Pretending they use some different formula is a lie. They've never counted those that drop out of the workforce. That's a new republican twist the facts line.

One other thing you might like to know...Chris Mathews was glad Sandy hit.
Job Creators? CONSUMERS ARE THE JOB CREATORS NOT EMPLOYERS!!!
I for one am SO F'ING TIRED OF THE BS conservatives are trying to peddle.
Consumers buy, creating demand, creating the need for someone to fill that demand, creating a job. So ridiculously simple it's sad that you just don't get it. Why you buy the crap the right wing wackos in the Senate and House are selling is just beyond me.
So when someone asks you "How many jobs have you created?", respond "Thousands! Every time I make a purchase it helps create the demand for a job.". That will shut them up.
The problem is that most of you conservatives, especially the partisan hacks on this site, lack the ability to independently think and instead just listed to the sound bytes and talking points fed to you from Fox News, Rush etc.
If you give a tax break to a rich person, they are just going to put that extra money in the bank. If you give it to a middle or lower class income bracket tax payer, chances are significantly higher they are going to spend it and stimulate the economy and create jobs.
So, to all of you partisan hacks that don't know the first thing about economic and how they work. SHUT THE HELL UP!
It amazes me how stupid Liberals are. It's not about being a sore loser because the douche bag won a second term, it's about the country being in the crapper.
Perhaps you can ask the Heritage Foundation what will be done about that. You know, that conservative think-tank that created this health care plan.
Or maybe you can ask Bob Dole, seeing as how he pushed this exact same plan as an alternative to Hillary-care.
Romney might even know the answer, because he implemented the exact same law before Obama.
Honestly, I am surprised a conservative like you has to ask these questions, seeing as how your own political party created this thing in the first place. They have been pushing it for over 20 years, where have you been?
Boehner: “Obamacare is the law of the land”
You got that one right sir! Let it be! Time will tell how effective the Obamacare is. Furthermore, in 4 years time if it’s not working, make its removal part of your election platform and let the people decide.

The only difference is Obama was handed the 10% unemployment and Reagan exacerbated the situation. Seriosuly? Watch more fox news. Are you saying the calculation used to derive unemployment changed from Reagan to Obama? Of course it did - why? Because Reagan had disatrous unemployment numbers and you jeopardy contestants need to pin something on Obama. Oh by the way - did you know Reagan raised taxes? Truly a republican icon.
You people and your faulty line of thinking are going the way of the dodo. Ironically. So sit down and let the adults fix the country that you people broke.

hmmm.... are you guys serious? A FOR PROFIT company is willing to only provide part time jobs without benefit just so they can maximize profit???? DUH!!!! Are you wing nuts still stuck???
Businesses will adjust their path to profitability according to the rules. If the rule posses loopholes, then it is most likely that they will take the short cut to profitability. It is simply game theory. It is not a science. AND that is exactly why government is not a business, and not putting profit ahead of agenda with dictates rules and laws.
Obama's calling for reconciliation is just photo op, very soon he will calling Republicans the party of no. His motive is clear , he want to get majority in congress to finish his agenda in his last two years and the best way is continue attacking Republicans in congress. Obama want destroy the country, his values, change the constitution and sit the most liberal Judges ,he don't like the way America is. Michelle never was proud of this country neither until Obama was nominated.
Bonehead Boehner,
Then act like it and finally stop walking out of meetings. You didn't make Obama a one term president, in fact you probably added to his re-election. "Compromise" is not a dirty word! "Republican" is!
In 2014, health insurance and health savings plans will be taxable income. I'm already paying over $7,000 in insurance and putting over $2,800 in our savings plan. My family is in the "lowest of the low" middle class. Just exactly how is Obamacare supposed to help me. To me is seems it will hurt the middle class because we are the ones paying for it.

Christian, if the American people have less money to spend consuming goods or services because their taxes are higher, how does that stimulate job creation?
For all you saying that people will lose their jobs over this, lets enlighten you. All costs are passed along. The profit margin will not be less because if there is extra cost to the business based on insurance costs, those costs will be baked into the price of the product.

Nice try but I was in the military and there were personnel cuts, early retirement and base closures under Reagan. He did try to modernize the military after the cuts of Carter, brought back the B-1 and star wars. But he definetly cut the military and at the same time defeated Russia without a shot fired. You really need to get your facts straight.

Oskar,
Just like bush is accountable and you right wingers keep saying stop bringing him up. Exit polls show that 63% of Americans who voted still blame much of Americas current problems on Bush. I know the right doesn't like me saying that , but it might have also played a big part in Obama's winning!
And yes, I know my post before last had typos. I'm steaming mad and in a hurry. That's why I have so many typos/misspellings in that.
I'm fed up with the ignorance. Fed up with the morons that won't do their own fact checking on reputable sites. Fed up with idiots that parrot Rush, or Glen, or Hannity or any other of those douches that have an agenda to line their pockets and make sure they stay lined.
They use things like gay marriage and abortion to manipulate you. They use scary (to you) words like socialism. All in an effort to brain wash the feeble minded rats that some of you are.
If you think socialism is so bad, don't use our public roads. Don't use our public schools. Don't call the police when you are in danger. Don't call the fire department when your house is burning down. You don't get to. Why? Because you HATE socialism. You believe it's such a scary word.
Capitalism is wonderful, it really is. However, it need regulation to flourish. Without the regulations, we end up with things like the Great Recession. Without it we end up with Enron. Without it greed will ultimately destroy it. If we let this happen, then we are idiots for letting capitalism die because we were too simple minded to know that there has to be rules!
We also need a tad bit of socialism tied in to make society work. We need roads, police, schools and libraries etc. We need social security for the elderly so they are always taken care of. Don't you want your parents taken care of? We need health care for all of us so we don't die. We need to take care of our fellow man when they need a hand up to get back on their own two feet, lest you be the one who needs the help and is denied it.
THEY ARE NOT ENTITLEMENTS! They are EARNED BENEFITS we paid for and deserve them! Stop f'ing calling them that, you brain washed monkeys!
Rant over.

After reading every post above I am more worried than ever about our future. How could we have come to this point? If a business wants to open up a facility overseas we should punish them for it and prevent the importation of their products here? Seriously? If a business refuses to hire the 50th employee in order to avoid Obamacare's requirements we should revoke their ability to do business? Are you REALLY serious? If a business wants to LEGALLY hire only part time employees in order to avoid Obamacare requirements then the IRS should audit that business forever? Are you mad?
Conservatives have argued that larger government means less liberty. How are the posts of the liberals above not proof that at least when anonymous liberals often support less liberty?
It is a fair point to argue the previous healthcare financing scheme was flawed. It is wrong to think Obamacare makes it better. Some firms are going to jettison their healthcare plans and pay the fine, and those employees will have to buy their own plan which is not tax deductible. This makes sense to the business, all other things equal, but not to the employee. But you know what this REALLY makes sense for? It makes sense for a government that wants to get more tax revenue.
Someone above claimed their healthcare premiums are going DOWN, not that they aren't going up as fast, but that they actually are going down, because of Obamacare. Then went on to say their medical costs are falling because they are getting free medical services. I hate to point out the obvious, but costs continue to increase, and nothing, ever, is for free.
There are a few laudable goals of Obamacare. I think something should be done for preexisting conditions, for instance. But Obamacare itself is an atrocious law in every conceivable way. Each of us will become less free and costs will go up more than before, but all the while that happens quality and quantity of care will decline. It must. The only way the government can ever hope to "control costs" is to ration care (or deny it entirely) or to provide lower quality care.

Post 1.56 Socially Fed Up (and others who might spout the same argument about now we're going to have to pay for those folks!~) NEWS FLASH!!! We, who have health insurance, have ALL been paying for "those folks" all along, at the most expensive rates. They go to the Emergency Room for minor care because they don't have a doctor; or they go to the ER/HOSPITAL admission because they didn't seek care before they got too sick and had to be admitted, often to ICU or CCU. Those bills don't come cheap, in fact they are the very most expensive medical bills in comparison to private doctor visits. I used to work in a hospital and typed those ER reports. All those with insurance pay higher hospital rates because someone has to absorb the cost from those with no insurance. If people have insurance and get preventive care it should lower medical care a lot and should free up hospital beds when people are treated in a timely fashion.

Welcome to Socialized Medicine... you voted for it, now enjoy it. Yes, everyone will 'have' health insurance, but we will ALL pay the price. Those of us who have worked our entire life for a retirement and health plan will now have to pay for this FREE coverage for thse of you who haven't earned it.
You do know, don't you, that Medicare is a type of socialism, that you seem to enjoy. You are comfortable with that I take it.
Well, the health reform act is going to help all of us who hold insurance policies. See, people with no health insurance go to the Emergency Room, and that cost is absorbed by insurance companies that pass the cost on to us,which raises our insurance rates. We are already paying for health care for free loaders. Now, we should not have to shoulder that burden
First Taliban is not AlQaeda they work in similar way but they have different objectives, learn something. AlQaeda is the terrorist group that kill our Ambassador in Benghazi in a planned attack, but Obama instead blame an stupid film of Mohamad and apologize Muslims for more than 3 weeks, in order to be reelected. This administration will held responsible, this will not go away so easy like fast and furious.
Still waiting for a conservative, any conservative, to explain to me what he or she would consider a better alternative to Obamacare, and how/what Romney would do differently.
BTW, it's a fair complaint of leftists to demand an alternative which would be better than Obamacare. I could be snotty and remark that most any alternative is better, but let's instead be serious about this, since after all it is very serious stuff (I'm not sure leftists are serious about policy though, to be frank).
Congressional republicans, being more conservative, wanted to simply tinker with the existing sytem in order to address some of the basic positive goals of Obamacare. They got no where. I suggest a completely different system. Please, particularly if you are a liberal, think this through before asserting I want everyone dead.
1. End Medicare, Medicaid.
2. For every American (or adult with a dependent) provide a refundable tax credit based upon the actuarial cost of that person, or persons.
3. Make a portion of this credit convertible to cash should the recipient of it be able to buy suitable health care insurance at a cost lower than the actuarial expectation.
4. Eliminate all state and national prohibitions on insurance underwriting other than solvency protections.
5. Adjust the income tax rate to adjust for the refundable tax credit cost.
What would this do? Well, first, in just a few dozen pages it would be both readable and comprehendable. Second, it would allow everyone regardless of age or condition, to buy insurance for themselves. Third, it would make that person the owner of their own policy so that portability would be solved. And, fourth, because of the cost-saving incentive of the cash convertibility idea people would ration themselves in a way they want, but only to the extent they continue to have an approved plan.
But the fifth result would be everyone would be more free with less regulation to deal with. Liberals choose a different path. They gave us an incomprehensible law which has many tax increases along with wildly expanded government power over individuals. I think the reason is that liberals didn't want to actually solve the problems, they wanted to empower the government. And boy, have they.
You mean that booze swilling Boehnor and the republican circle jerk in the House(with single digit approval ratings) is going to actually try to do something to help the country instead of voting to end The ACA more than 40 times????? I'll believe it when I see it. Didn't the "American Teabag Taliban"(republicans) promise to make America and our President fail?? The only failure in our great country is the republican teabag Taliban Party....period! And you crazy connies wonder why you took a beating not only in the Presidential election but also lost seats in the House and Senate. Ahhhh, ignorance is bliss in the good ol' USA isn't it????
All the fuss is now happening because Obamacare was a botch job from the start. Now all the businesses are trying to find ways to wiggle off the hook (as are some states). They should have made it a system unconnected directly to employers. It should have been like extending medicare to everybody. It would have been simpler too since medicare is an established system. The idea of national healthcare would have been great...if they did it right. The way they did it, Romneycare would have been just as good.
CHARGE OFF THE FISCAL CLIFF!
You Democratic and Republican radicals want it. Stop lying already.
Republicans want more taxes and Democrats want less unions. Anybody saying otherwise is a liar. Otherwise there wouldn't be a majority of Republican and Democratic incumbents re-elected.

Rich, I do appreciate your response to my question (maybe you weren't addressing me but it's a question I've asked at least 3 times on that thread).
Unfortunately, I did think carefully about those options and I don't see how that does anything except muddle the current healthcare system AND tax system further. Obamacare already does some of those things--like eliminating prohibitions on underwriting. I'm also not sure what you mean by "individual actuarial costs". Actuaries don't set premium prices on individuals, they set them according to the performance of groups and pools of individuals. The overwhelming amount of work that would go into actuaries assigning actuarial costs to individuals would be STAGGERING and more than confusing... and pretty similar to underwriting. What you're doing is making healthy people pay less, and sick people pay more, which is what was broken about the old system. Also, under Obamacare, people will STILL have their own policies, and still pay for them (unless they're under an income level). I'm liberal, but not necessarily a fan of big government--if there's ANY industry that needs regulation, it's insurance companies. There is a balance to be found between the free market and regulation, and that's what Obamacare is trying to accomplish. Despite all the doomsday prophesies (and the predictions of rainbows and sunshine for everyone), no one really knows how this is going to play out until 2014.
Silly GOP/TP.
When it was called Romneycare in Massachusetts, the Republicans liked it and said how well it worked.
So now it's called Obamacare and the Republicans/TP are hyperventilating over how demonic and evil it is.
Sigh.
The GOP/TP would not even attempt to amend parts they did not like. They refused to work with the President to find a compromise. And who really has to pay for their refusal to even modify it?
Americans.
Even my own neighbor said to me about a month ago that she was scared of the tattoo or microchip that we would all have to get if Obamacare was passed. I said, "Whaaaat?"
Crazy Fox News rumors.
Thanks a lot, GOP/TP, making everybody's life harder.
Hi Preceded,
Mr. Romney wasn't clear about what he would have replaced Obamacare with, so we can't really debate that point. But I did give you an answer (there is a bit more to it than my list of points but that is the gist of a better plan, imo) and I would like to hear what you think of it.
Rich
I know that people like you hate liberals, and that you will most likely call me liberal for the mere fact that I do not ascribe to extreme-right principles. That being said, I did read your idea, without bias, and considered the ramifications.
There is, however, one issue I find. Naturally, many people will elect to forgo coverage in favor of the tax credit . . . specifically young, healthy people that rarely need medical attention. This creates two problems:
1) With the majority of insurance holders being elderly and sick, requiring health services, this would cause premiums to skyrocket. The young, healthy population acts as a price buffer in insurance plans. So although I may not need healthcare now, my premiums are still paid, funding the elderly and sick who do require healthcare. Without my premiums, the companies would have to increase costs to cover their customers. This is the very basis for insurance, and why we use it in the first place. Your plan does not address this problem.
2) Those who do not buy insurance will still go to emergency rooms when the need arises (just like they have done in the past). If they can not afford the bill, what do we do with them? This was the entire reason we needed health care reform in the fist place, because people who made the decision not to buy insurance still went to emergency rooms and WE ALL paid for them. So, apart from forcing them to buy their own insurance, how else do we address that problem?
KornFed:

oskar-1391552:
No, I'm not a lawyer. I am computer scientist and a business owner. I understand very much how business works thank you. It's called trickle up, not down.
Why do you think consumer spending is the largest part of the economy? Why do you think even Bush asked everybody to go out and spend? When we don't spend, businesses have to let people go and shut down.
I don't keep people employed just because I want to or am trying to be a good citizen. I do it because I need their help to make my business run. Why? Because people are purchasing our services.
It sounds like you are the one who needs to get a clue.
I'm done on this board. Everyone has an arbitrary line drawn in the sand. Nobody is every going to be convinced of anything, especially those on the right. It's just the same tired a$$ people arguing talking points over and over. Very little intelligent discussion about anything.
I AM FED UP WITH IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY! GOODBYE RIGHT WING NUT JOBS!!!
Well, at least when Republicans mouth off about getting rid of Obama in 4 years, it'll be the truth. Unfortunately for them, Hillary will Bitch slap them even harder than Obama ever thought of doing.
In a fact based universe, 100 plus electoral votes would seem like a mandate for Obama care, to even the most disinterested observer!!

I'm not sure if you wanted me to be impressed by your resume, but I am not. I judge people on the substance of their argument. I wiped the floor with you. I gave other sources with the same news that you had mocked. Giving up would be a wise move, and save the remaining face you have left.
Enough ALREADY. Anyone who argues against helping domestic issues hasn't learned from history. The failures of the Romans, Greeks, Persians, Macedonians, Egyptians and all those I did not mention; erupted from the core. Taking care of home should be the number one priority. Period. If there is disagreement about its delivery, fine. But anyone who can be convinced that should not be our priority should take a moment and introspect. Our infrastructure- people, things(bridges, roads, schools, healthcare, civilty etc.) thoughts and idealogy have to take precedent. As our leader, like him or not, pointed out we do posess the right to argue. Let's simply argue to make this a better country not a worse country. If one isn't a part of the solution............ (I almost wish I didn't have to finish this), then they are a part of the problem.
Hey, Rich,
I imagine if Romney had been elected he would have replaced Obamacare with Romneycare since that was the health care plan he implemented in Massachusetts when he was Governor, and all the Republicans liked it.
Obamacare was modeled after it and is pretty much the same plan, only a few differences, one of those being that Romneycare requires that any business with 11 or more full-time employees offer health insurance to their workers or pay a penalty.
Obamacare requires only large businesses (over 50 full-time employees) to offer health insurance or face a penalty.
Oh gee ... I guess none of the GOP/TP bothered to mention that to their supporters. I wonder why?
Oh yes, I know ... because everybody might have thought it was a good idea and it would have worked, and President Obama would have gotten some credit for it.
The GOP/TP certainly could not let that happen!
RWNJs complaining about libs wanting hand-outs - BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The red states are the states that are the ones on the take. Also, less education, more substance abuse, more inbreeding, etc, etc, etc. You guys are the butt-holes of this countrty
It doesn't really matter who the president is or which party has the most members in congress... the same people still control the government, the 1%. They give the orders and the politicians carry them out. Obama care is a cover for them to quit paying for health care for employees.
G.E. (the ones who have the $150 million tax credit) are going to eliminate health insurance for non- union employees and then when the union contract is up eliminate their insurance as well. Next the vacation time, sick days and paid holidays will go as well. Soon no employers will be offering any kind of benefits and minimal salaries...... They feel people who are poor and hopeless will be easier to control.
The problem is that we have GREEDY people running this country, who intend to use the 99%; the problem with their plan is that once they turn America into another third world country is that they will be eliminating their customers as well. In fact if they don't turn things around it won't be 47% needing some kind of government assistance...it will be 99%.
Hey Preceded,
I'm not sure what you mean by muddle in terms of the current system since what I just offered was a complete replacement to the entire thing. End, essentially, every economically illiberal law and regulation now in effect, allow the free market to work, put you in the position of controlling your own care with your own doctors how oyu see fit. It would also have the advantage of making everyone in the USA insurable while respecting their choice, if they make it, to go without insurance. One of those unwritten points would be a removal of all "must treat" laws.
Medicare and Medicaid, today, shift much of their costs on to private insureds. Both are overutilized and all too often corrupted with over billing or excessive treatments. We don't need even more regulations, with penalties, to stop this. We simply need to remove the governmentally installed regulations that caused it in the first place.
Private insurance often can't be purchased over state lines. This is economically illiberal. So long as a firm meets solvency requirements why should the government care where you buy your insurance? Liberty is the lodestone of American exceptionalism, and we have spent more than 70 years now in the health care field removing liberty from the individual and empowering the government. At every step the "system" has become worse, yet liberals think the solution is yet more government. Odd.
So the three goals of Obamacare are, in each case, not going to be realized. Universality, portability, and cost containment, are all laudable ideas, and none of them will be discovered in Obamacare. Cost containment will be possible, but only through rationing of some sort. Portability, because the vast majority of people won't own their own policy won't happen, but they could replace their policy. And universality was never a complete goal anyhow. Even Mr. Obama says millions will remain uninsured upon full implementation.
We have an incomprehensible law. This alone should be reason to reject it. It empowers government at the expense of the individual. It causes perverse economic consequences, like unplanned governmental tax revenue increases. I choose to support solutions which achieve the goals without the negative consequences and costs. I lost. You won. But did you really?
BTW, a reason for Romneycare in Massachussetts being designed as is (which isn't the same at all as Obamacare) is because of all the federal laws they had to work around. It still required waivers to be approved in order to get that law passed Had Romney been governor of, say, Kansas, I doubt the law would look anything like the one from Massachussetts.
Irvmani: The fact most spending were on advanced systems and not the troops changes nothing. My point was Reagan spent massively on advanced weapons beyond any peacetime spending ever. Expanding the military budget 43% higher than it was at the height of Vietnam. He spent his way out of the recession. That's not an option today.
KornFed:
Wait a second here... let me check... oh $hit, just like I thought. I have completely run out of f**ks to give. I could care less about what you think about me OR "my resume".
You and your backwards thinking is the exact reason I'm done with this board. You have no ability to analytically think. You're a partisan hack. Plain and simple.
I've tried watching Fox News on multiple occasions. Complete absolute drivel. The morons they have on for guests are pathetic idiots too. They lie so much they should all have noses long enough to reach the damn cameras. They distort facts and bend the truth so far it snaps.
You should do yourself a favor and fact check some of the crap they say. NOT TO MENTION, HANNITY, ORIELY AND BECK ARE NOT NEWS!!! They are entertainers that give their opinion about the news. Neither is Rachel Maddow or Ed Shultz. While they are much more honest, they are not news.
NPR and programs like that ACTUALLY give you THE FACTS and let you decide.
American Girl, a business does not have to hire full time employees. The only full time employees will likely be management. As it stands now Marshalls and Walmart have a small percentage of full time employees. One thing is for certain, SMALL Businesses employ a vast majority of Americans. Obama is not business savy or business friendly. You can be assured these people WILL be paying their own Health Insurance. 4 years is short. If Obamacare isn't working, and the people are getting hammered financially as expected, in 4 years you can guarantee a Republican coming in and wiping away much of this bill. Democrats thought they were getting free gas and mortgages with Obama. You think this is free? YOU WILL PAY!
I see not one wants to have an honest conversation about a law the legislators "passed to find out what is inside". Honestly, the legislators don't know the actual impact because the agencies have not added their rules yet. The Congress created new agencies and left the rule making up to them. So even when a local businessman asked insurance companies and the government what to expect in the new year they could not answer him. He has a property management business with about 150 employees in several states. In effect since he can't plan he is anticipating the company being bankrupted by the new law. How is that fair to the employees and the business owner? This is a classic example of letting legislators enact law without understanding the ramifications. it happens all the time and the cost in time and money is huge on the business owner.
I have operated small business for over 24 years and the legislators are directly responsible for the current economy and the collapse of the housing industry which I service.
Why do you progressives think it is unfair to expect full disclosure so a business can plan for the changes in law? Is it because most of you never had the responsibility of caring for employees and a company? All I hear is name calling and chest thumping when just like the legislators who voted for this you have no idea the consequences to American business. When will you wake up and ask real questions of your legislators? Ask why they exempted themselves from it if it is such a great deal?
I see many posts full of misinformation so far on this thread. Tucker123-The Cadillac plan tax (taxing healthcare benefits) does not take effect until 2018 and is only on plans where your employer is contributing more than $28,500/family. Not many people have that good of healthcare insurance through their company. Glen-1484791-Small business with less than 50 employees are exempted from having to provide healthcare.
I suggest that people do their research, not just on one site or news network, be it here on nbcnews or at Fox, before coming to your conclusions. I was able to find this information out within 5 minutes of searching. There are good things in the plan and there are bad things in the plan. Personally, I would rather have a healthcare bill in place, which can be amended and refined (and it needs to be) than try and pass one from scratch. One scenario is much easier than the other....
LogicReguired (sic) --
#1.81 has got to be one of the dumbest posts of all time. In your attempt to belittle another poster by making childish remarks about his/her age you say (I'm paraphrasing here because I don't want to scroll back up to your stupid statement): "When you were five years old...Moses was building a boat for some flood".
The flood story I believe you are referencing has nothing to do with Moses. It's Noah. As in Noah's Ark.
You can't get the simplest details of a children's story correct. You can't even spell your chosen name correctly.
Nothing you say should be taken seriously.
Hey, Rich,
Here's a short, easy-to-read, easy-to-understand link to explain how much Romneycare and Obamacare are alike.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brad-burd/obamacare-romneycare_b_1956075.html
You can thank me later.
Alice,
How about the threat to make business provide full medical to part time employees? No actual decision on that yet. So in essence the new normal is "gigs" and no real full time jobs. How is that a benefit to the employee, company and the country? This is just one of the problems in allowing the government to "mis-manage" 17% of our GDP. The actual truth is no one knows the impact yet...they are just making it up as they go along and that is a disaster in the making.
Hey Preceded,
I was doing some chores and it dawned on me what you meant. Sorry, I should've been clearer. I think you meant that the costs would be borne by the individuals in the same way as now, one paying more and so on. No, what we need is a system where plan costs, which are different for each participant, would be socialized so that no one with a preexisting condition, for instance, would be penalized. That is, if your yearly plan cost were, say, 10k, then your refundable tax credit would be 10k. But your adjusted tax payment for this would be higher or lower or the same depending on where you fall in terms of income. People with far higher incomes would pay far higher taxes despite getting a far lower credit. People with lower incomes would pay lower taxes despite a far higher credit.
Over time (like I said my list was incomplete) I'd transfer this to the states and pahse out the federal government entirely.
I am and always have been in favour of national health care programs. We are probably the last industrial nation to adopt one. Is this a program that smaller nations only are able to afford? Of course not. We pay for national health already .We do not allow our sick to die yet our hospitals and their medical staff do get payed. We can't win against the insurance cos. but they can be controlled by the government. We either pay with higher premiums or by all of us continuing to pay our fair share. The A.C.A. is now law and will be amended continually until it becomes one of if not the best Medical program on the planet. The conservatives will like it as well as the rest of us as they get used to it
Rich,
Are you aware of the many conflicts of interest that your most recent comment contains? I understand your use of illiberal to allude to the "typical" democratic position and its possible inability to be fiscally responsible per the "assumption." But, you state, and I quote "Private insurance often can't be purchased over state lines. This is economically illiberal. So long as a firm meets solvency requirements why should the government care where you buy your insurance?". You're arguing against your point. That being, Obama is taking an "illiberal" approach, or in exacting other words a conservative approach. This isn't logical. It's illogical. I won't go into a complete counter against the litany of other dichotomies. Your passion not withstanding, you've provided why this thinking is a failure in your opinion. Enlighten us with what will work.

Yet you came back for another woopin?
I do check it,,,I watch it! I watch some CNN, I obviously read NBC news. What are you trying to say? You mocked my source with regards to Clinton, Geightner and Holder, so I gave you some other sources. Then you go on to call me stupid...likely because you have no other argument to make, which is usually the case.
At least Boehner saw the light (if he's sincere) and realizes that it's time to cooperate or become marginalized. Now it someone would just smack that dolt Mitch McConnell upside the head!
Oh, I don't know...it was pretty entertaining watching Karl Rove melt down on Election night!
Oy, all you chicken littles... I've got one word to say to you...
MASSACHUSETTS
yes, a State-wide version of this plan is in effect and has been since it was enacted by...
Drum roll Please...
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney... Which is funny, because none of those dire predictions that people have been blasting are true...
I live with the reality, and I have nothing to fear, because Massachusetts is already at 98% compliance. (By the last tally that I saw)
But you want to beat your chests of this and don your hair shirt, well who am I to stop you with the reality Check.
The 33 attempts to overturn health care reform have taken 80 hours, or two full weeks of work. The House costs $24 million a week to operate.
I wondered what that loud popping noise was earlier today.
It must have been Mr. Boehner "pulling his head out of his..." well, you get it.
@Laura-313822 you are right, my Son is an area supervisor for an IHOP franchise and just yesterday he was told by the owners that by Jan 1st 2013 everyone on the payroll should be part-time no more full time employees, because the owners won't pay medical insurance.
The Rich will never have PEACE...
You know Mr. Boehner is right "if you cant beat them join them"
What a bunch of whiners. Romney lost by a clear margin. It wasn't a conspiracy; it wasn't the Black Panthers; it wasn't liberal media bias and wasn't because everyone who voted for President Obama is stupid or crazy it is because we like him; agree with him and support him. Look beyond the Presidential election and see how many of your fellow Republican extreme right wing wackos around the country did. Perhaps it is time for you old white guys to realize that the world is changing. Geeze - Grow up and suck it up!
The media has brainwashed you all by the millions. It is a shame really. Not anything to laugh at anymore.
You all need to stop arguing and spewing hate toward each other. You are (mostly) all right in many ways and have valid points. What we need to realize, as liberals/conservatives, elephants/donkeys, whatever polarizing names we choose, we are AMERICANS and we can make a better world together.
YES the Healthcare bill has many flaws, but HEALTHCARE FOR EVERYONE in some manner is important, some manner other than those who have none go to the er for free.
Can we figure this out together...? Yes, of course we can.
Why didn't we....? Because it was the self expressed decision of some to not work with the President last time because the goal was to make him a one term president.
now that that has failed, MAYBE we can get down to business and make a better healthcare program that works for EVERYONE.
....AND A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT ELSE TOO.
This is clearly the website of the 95%.
connor - the only business where health insurance costs don't matter is the one which they can charge whatever they want for their product or services. Only the most unique businesses can do that.
Toxic Chemist is correct. Places that used to hire full time workers now hire private contractors because the cost of hiring and maintaining a full-time formal employee is much more.
The other out is to make all positions part-time.
@Dandy416 he said;
10% unemployment under Reagan and he's the republican god.
7.9% following the worst economic collapse in 70 years and Obama isnt doing enough for jobs.
LOL you people are ridiculous
Take a look at the unemployment record since taking office in 2009. In January of 2009 it started at 7.8 and went up as high as 10.0. There a couple other websites that give slightly different numbers, actually, higher numbers. So by your 7.8% today and since it started at 7.8%, would you say he has done better, worse, or the same? Before you answer, understand that starting back in May of 2009 it stayed in the 9% plus until March 2011 at 8.9%, then right back up into the 9's until October 2011, where it was under and slowly has gone down to 7.8%, right where it started under Obama.
I am not complaining or am I pissed that Obama was re-elected. I am very scared. Yes, he took a job with that had lots and lots of problems but it has gotten worse; higher unemployment, higher gas prices, a country that has pretty much been divided, and not looking much better. And I really really hope it does.
google/bing: bureau of labor, unemployment rates 2008-2012
Sorry to burst your bubble but this was a problem long before Obamacare. It's also a way to skirt unemployment requirements in some places. Many companies hire exclusively through temp agencies and this started way before Obama.
Silverton, if all I did was focus on similarities I would agree they are identical. But there are significant differences, and that is why they aren't.
America, illiberal has noting to do with ideology, if that is your point. It has to do with denying, in this case, people of their economic liberty. Which, if I read my Federalist Papers correctly, is a major reason for the republic.
Lukas, why should business owners simply take their spanking? Why, in other words, was it okay for you to support forcing people and firms to heel to your command, but it is wrong for them to notice they aren't slaves and they can make other choices? So, some people wanted someone else to give them free stuff, and those being asked to do the giving are beginning to say no. And they are wrong? Isn't this backwards?
Lukas Hope
But before the ACA, they were able to get insurance. Now they have to buy their own insurance on less wages because to be part-time they must work a limited number of hours, usually less than 32 hours a week. What the employer is going to do is schedule that employee for only 25 - 28 so that if they need them to stay they can without having them trigger benefits.
So DB, we all become independent contractors or work for the man for minimum wage with no benefits. as ID's we can buy our own insurance at 1400/month for a family of 2 parents and one or more kids. Is that right? When our elected's get free bene's for life? really, people go to the er for freakin sinus infections and the hospital never gets paid because you can't bleed a stone. This country pays either way. Either everyone pays something or some pay nothing...unless you make it by choice but then those who choose no insurance can get turned away.
@LogicReguired
"Own a business do ya? I didn't think so."
I do, but I don't think you do or you're a lousy businessperson. You people talk a lot of BS like if you had everything figured out.
Selling lots and cheaper is always more profitable than selling less at a higher price. If you have good volume of sales, you can keep your prices low.
You only need to raise your prices when you don't have enough sales to cover expenses. A good clientele with money and the willingness to spend makes all the difference.
Let me start off by saying that I am not a republican or a democrat. I believe in small government, I believe in separation of church and state, I believe in separation of business and state, I believe a woman has a right to choose, I believe success should not be punished by higher taxes and regulations, I believe gays should be able to get married, I believe people should not be able to buy alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets with welfare, I believe in the 1st and 2nd amendment, and if people want to smoke pot, I could care less. I have no political argument when it comes to the ACA. That being said, the ACA will increase unemployment, raise the cost of healthcare, and cripple our economy. Here are a few reasons why:
which will affect how, where, and when the wealthy choose to invest their
capital. To increase net income, a business can either decrease overhead or increase revenue. Under the ACA it is wiser to decrease labor costs by decreasing the number of employees, employ independent contractors, have part-time employees, or pay a penalty that is cheaper than the cost of employee health insurance. Undoubtedly this will increase unemployment. Additionally, the sharpest ACA tax increase in investment income is from dividends (15% to 43%) for people making more than $200,000. Traditionally stock paying dividends has been a relatively “safe” investment; many if not most energy and pharmaceutical companies pay dividends. Due to this new tax, you will see less capital invested into these companies. The net result being less capital invested into R&D and well even the uneducated can guess the rest.
If you haven't figured it out yet... Fox news and the Right Wing media have been lying to you. Over the last 14 years the Republican Party has had the attitude of our way or the highway. They have been being led by a special interest group run by Grover Norquist.
Why do you think making a pledge to a special interest group has America's best interest in mind?
Haven't you wondered why you get so angry at the mention of
a Democrat?
You have been the victim of Coercive Persuasion.
To impose a set of usually political or religious beliefs on somebody by the use of various coercive methods of indoctrination, including destruction of the victim's prior beliefs condition somebody to behave differently or increasing slight beliefs or fears: to induce somebody to believe or do something, e.g. to buy a new product or vote a different way, especially by means of constant repetition or advertising.
The tactics that the right wing are using were perfected by the Soviet Union. If it is repeatedenough time's you will begin to repeat it as fact.
Here is how they do it... Have you ever heard the right media say "there was a study done" (but no reference to who did the study) "we heard several people say", "people have said", "Someone heard" and continually repeat
the same thing time and time again as fact even though it's not?
Here is an example "The liberal media has taken over". Here are the facts about the take over. I will use network TV as an example

As can see its quite a list all Owned by or partially owned
by 1 man Rupert Murdock. Here is just an example in California
we have 7 network TV stations 3 of them are wholly owned by FOX ; 13, 11 and 5.Thats 3 out of 7 check how many are owned in your city now remember that lots of these stations have sister stations that are not on the list but you can easily find out.
Now lets talk about radio. You now know who Bain Capital (Romney's Baby) is right? Did you know he still owns 51% of the company? This is called a controlling share.
Bain Capital owns Clear Channel which owns 866 radio
stations and Premiere Radio Networks, a national radio network that serves
nearly 5,800 radio station affiliates and has over 213 million weekly
listeners. Programs include the Rush Limbaugh Show, Glenn Beck and the Sean
Hannity Show.
That is a ton of radio stations all saying the same thing and all owned by 1 company. So as you can see Rush, Glen Beck, Hannity and many, many moreright wing talk show hosts are on the republican freindly pay roll.
All you doomsayers, please grasp some faith that this country will rebound. We have had a rough period of time and this too shall pass. Give this country a chance to regroup. AND Every last one of us needs some sort of healthcare and it is a shame that it is a for profit that allows those that don't have funds to be left out. How would you feel if it were you? Or your child?
@fonze1111
Would you provide a link to the source you pasted? Looks like a bias site.
We do know that many thousands of deaths are going to be avoided every year by the Healthcare Reform. It is something that needed reform badly in our country.
Will not be perfect because Obama had to subsidize Insurance companies (aka Socialism-for-Profit) thanks to G.O.P. and Democrat-Conservatives. His original proposal was "the public option" (Medicare for All). But it will keep on being modified with time.
The fabrication by Congress and lobbyist that this would've raised your prices is a fallacy. If you read a bit of History, you will see that Healthcare prices started to skyrocket when Medical Insurance took over after W.W.II, Before that, doctors had to keep prices low to compete with each other- like all other professionals. There was no "cash cow" to milk.
JC,
I thought you guys won, what happened???
My 90 year old grandparents won't have to shop for private health insurance, and my sister won't go broke because she happens to have Multiple Sclerosis.
I have faith, we will figure the rest out. This is NOT the end of the world. Deal with it people.
Is it hard to live in 1860? I mean with that tyrant Lincoln (Obama)seizing the government trampling your rights, the rights of the sovereign states and destroying the constitution. Most of you righties only time travel to the 1950s. You really stretched it out to hit 1860!
BTW make sure you send back those social security checks from the government you don't recognize. No driving on the Interstate highway system that the government you don't recognize built. No flying either because the government you don't recognize operates the air traffic control system. No Amtrak either. You don't want health insurance fine can the hospital wheel your @ss to the curb when you can't pay?
Devils Son,
Amen! And he will use his 2nd Amendment right to get his ass thrown in the federal clink, if he keeps that @!$%# up.
OK all you geniuses that learned about ObamaCare on Fox news, something they must have just some how inadvertently forgot to mention, is that small businesses with less than 50 employees are exempt of thehealth care responsibility portion of the law. And they probably also forgot the part were businesses with less than 25 people, who desired to give their employees health care, they can get subsidized up to 50% of the cost.
The fact is that the vast majority of small businesses can actually benefit by offering health care they aren't required to provide. It's like giving your employees a nice raise without giving them a raise. That is a nice perk to hand out and if it keeps your employees healthier, you benefit in that way too.
But I'm sure all you small business owners know this because what kind of business owner would be so stupid as to believe Fox news or some goofy chain email, instead of reading the law for themselves? Yeah nobody in business could possibly be that dumb right? These guys are the backbone of the economy, surely they know what they're doing????
The fact is that Obama Care is actually quite beneficial to the vast majority of small businesses. Now I'll admit the benefits aren't quite as good for those "small businesses", (by the Republican definition), that employ thousands of workers. Yeah, you probably weren't thinking those were "small businesses" but in fact there are more than a handful of very large employers, making hundreds of millions in profit, who are technically classified as small businesses. Republican pundits often neglect to mention this but have no problem including them in order to skew the numbers.
I am sure it is just an oversight that these "little" facts never get mentioned. Surely Fox and the pundits aren't trying to be deceptive, could they be? You'd think too that people so vehimently against it would have made the effort to read it too, because how could anybody in their right mind be so against something without really knowing what they were against?
Well, it's about time.
33 House votes and $50 million later, the GOP is finally admitting to reality?
Now that's a new day dawning!
lol, ok... so can one of the Democrats out there, please explain why 39 National Companies have announced layouts in the last 48 hours, and why ONLY Fox News and other conservative networks have the gonads to report it?
Seriously, days worth of arguments, and people just don't get it. CNN lies as much as Fox does... which is to say, technically, not at all, they just don't tell you news that doesn't fit with their agenda.
Otherwise, they could be sued, and if Fox News lied as much as some "sources" suggest, they would be paying more than the National Debt... not to mention the FCC would pull their license.
So..... give it up!
After all, CNN didn't say a word about the Obama support for a UN Resolution that makes countries accountable for any form of expression that is degradating towards others religions.... kind of funny how it actually was one the books prior to the release of the so-called anti-Muslim video. But make no mistake, within hours of Obama's re-election, he was getting congradulated by the head of the committee that started the UN Resolution....
BTW... To those unaware, when you have a foster child, you do receive welfare benefits...
FOR THE KIDS ONLY!!! You don't get them for yourself, and every penny is accounted for. You should actually find out what it entails before whining about someone who is actually sticking their neck out to help others.
Um, because Rupert Murdoch didn't want Obama to win, so he's trying to convince you that he knows more than the American people?
Oh, and FOX already won their lawsuit saying they can flat-out lie and distort the news any way they want.
You have far too much faith in the FCC for a conservative.
And they won! Guess what you're watching today?

@lilirocks
I cut and pasted my post from Microsoft word because I don’t like typing in the small box provided by nbc news. Most of my sources for came from the unfettered ACA because I don’t like reading through the spin of main stream media.
I am very familiar with medical insurance, the increasing cost of healthcare, and difficulties with access to care. I operate in two different hospitals. One is a small level two trauma center and the other is a very large tertiary care center. In my opinion, the smaller hospital provides better care for my pts and at a lower cost. I can operate at any time I wish, the nurses take better care of my pts (since they are not in a union they get raises based on quality of care and can be fired if they do not meet acceptable standards), I can focus on my pts rather than on paper work and red tape, and my fellow physicians/ consulting services are faster and more motivated to attend to my pts since they are directly reimbursed rather than on a hospital salary. However, the smaller hospital has less access to endowments and has no government funding. With a 33% decrease in Medicare reimbursements there will be dark days ahead. I take my more complex cases to the larger hospital since there is a plethora of subspecialist to aid in the care of my pts. However, the ancillary staff is mediocre at best, the hospital is run by lawyers who can increase profits by institutionalized defensive medicine rather than decreasing overhead. The larger hospital will weather the storm just fine but it will not decrease the cost of healthcare at all.
Honestly if government stopped the lovefest they have going on with the insurance companies and trial lawyers we wouldn’t be in this situation. If insurance companies actually had to compete for pts and had to answer to the better business bureau for breach of contract, pts would not have to go bankrupt for healthcare. If trial lawyers had to play by the rules, tissues wouldn’t cost $20 a box to ensure that 1:400,000 pts wouldn’t have an allergic reaction to them.
For those of you worried that you won't be able to afford health insurance, or you're already paying thousands of dollars for coverage and can't afford more, the ACA will make it much cheaper for you to have coverage than what is available to you today.
Here is a good summary sheet of how the new program will work:
http://www.ncsl.org/portals/1/documents/health/hraca.pdf
Lack of information leads to fear of the unknown. But notice that for people with incomes at 133% of the federal poverty level (about $25k for a family of 3), your coverage can't cost more than 2% of your annual income.
That amount rises to 9.5% for those with 400% of federal poverty level, but that's still less than the $7k a year one poster above said he's paying for his family's coverage today.
And those under 133% of the poverty level will get Medicaid.
The GOP has tried every scare tactic in the book for the last couple of years, but the reality is a big improvement over our current system. Read up, or wait and see.
Pardon me fellow winners for what is right with America, do we still even care what the pubes think? Clearly, they cannot even count so what could they possibly have to say that even makes any sense? Honestly, they are like 2 year old children. Let's just feed 'em, change their diapers and send them off back to dreamland. You know, their little fantasy world where Robme won!
On a more serious note, in the future the pubes will put forth any and all hispanic pubes, such as Rubio, in order to try to make it appear that they've learned the lesson of inclusiveness. Don't be fooled! If it looks like a hyena, acts like a hyena, howls like a hyena and has hyenas in their body politic chances are they're pube-hyenas!
Citizens,
And corporations. They believe that corporations have a right to life too.
Indie, part of your dilemma you mentioned on how to fund the program with mostly older, sicker people opting in and many young healthy people opting out and paying the fine will be solved by the penalties; they will help make up the difference for the young healthy people opting out. However, sad to say, many young people will find out how bad their decision to opt out was when some unforeseen health condition or accident occurs and leaves them with tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt, and because they are young and relatively healthy they will find their wages garnished to pay their medical debts--happens all the time now, and will probably increase in the future.
Yeah, I'd like to hear from all you fools touting this great Bozobama program when YOU or YOUR family are denied care because of government rationing of care or when they die waiting to be treated because the indigent or lazy non-workers have taken up all available slots for the limited care that's available. Then come back to this forum and tell us how you love government-run health care. Looked at Europe lately, fools?
Been to Canada lately?
I have. The healthcare is great.
Can you even imagine what it's like to walk into a doctor's office, show your card, talk about your medical problem and then go home and NEVER deal with an insurance company or paperwork?
Do you know how much money all the insurance processing costs this country? That's money out of your wallet - every year.
First and foremost: Congratulations, President Obama, for a hard-won and well-deserved victory!
Second of all, you republicans seem not to have learned this one simple lesson from Romney's defeat: Fearmongering doesn't work. You have this huge fear of the unknown and would like to make everyone else just as fearful as you are. Stop trying to drag everyone down to your level. It's time to face your fears, guys. The ACA is the law of the land. And, I think you will discover that reality isn't nearly so scary as your imagined fears. In just a few years, everyone will wonder what the big deal was and how we ever lived without the ACA.
We still live in the most bountiful land on Earth. This land is your land, this land is our land. From the redwood forests to the Gulf stream waters. Tax havens and Wall Street has done nothing to change that. This country belongs to all of of us. The day we surrender all of that bounty to a group of Wall Street whores is the day that America dies.
We have never done that and we never will. That's why Romney and his great super-pacs were turned away. President Obama may have not been the best choice, but he was the only other choice. That's why we will hold his feet to the fire as well as the determined obstructionists to assure his failure. All will work hard to return America to her place in leading the free world in success or we fire all of you in 2014. Take notice Boner, Cantor and Ryan. Your asses are on the line along with Obama. Do your jobs or go home. We're sick of your obstinance and stubborn laziness.
Welcome to the world of part time jobs? Where the hell have you all been the last thirty years? What do you think is helping to keep the poor, poor? Super market chains such as Food City, fast food chains, Wal Mart and others such as them hire people to work but will not let them get forty hours per week. That way they will always be considered part time workers and they don't have to pay in for them. They usually let people have twenty two to twenty eight hours a week and some will even go thirty eight but theu never let anybody have forty. Damn bunch of crooks.
Only a right wing nut would look at religious tolerance as a detriment. Kudos for not disappointing my low expectations.
How much did Jesus charge for his healing services? And these right-wingers actually think they follow Jesus? They most definitely don't. They worship Moloch and Mammon. Never has the world seen a more materialistic greedy and self-centered group of people as this current incarnation of right-wingers. They'd toss the poor and elderly on a huge pyre to Moloch if it meant they were more likely to receive that nice 60" flat screen monitor they've been eying these past few months.
Logic Required: While your posts on here are certainly entertaining to read, its a bit difficult to get past your overall arrogance and apparent disdain for everyone you are talking to. You come across as if you believe everyone else on here is completely stupid - something you've said on here multiple times, where as you know all.
A word of advice, you might tone that down and actually listen to others as it will help widen your own view.
As a business owner and lifelong entrepreneur, I can assure you that your logic is simplified to the point of being flawed. In reality, the cost of doing business fluctuates on a regular basis. Fuel goes up, taxes vary, vendors change prices, sales go up and down, etc. As a responsible business owner, you take those things into consideration and adjust your pricing as needed. Its called the marketplace. And just because the cost of doing business goes up, doesn't mean you fire your employees. You make it work or you lose the value they added to your company, which is what makes money. If they weren't that valuable to begin with, then you were better off firing them either way.
I have been asking this question all along. What is going to be done about this?
Just don't ask the Democrats who voted it in since they didn't bother reading it. In answer to the "What would Romney do differently - give it back to the states to taylor and implement to fit the citizens of each state.
Venture capitalists and tax loopholes for outsourcing have stolen more US jobs than the Affordable Healthcare Act ever will.
so the socialized healthcare works so well in europe and else where that all the countries are going broke can you say greece,uk, one good point is now people won't have a reason to come here for top health care since it's no better than whats in there country one bad point is more bussinesses will be locating else where to avoid added cost
Boehner has already taken back his statement!
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa, And you people believed him?
People actually are dumber than they look.
The only way to silence radical extremists is to vote them out of office!
How can be believe a confirmed liar?
Welcome to more spending with more Government jobs, that is the only way Obama create jobs and cook numbers is the best way to reduce unemployment. Spend, spend, more debt, more debt, more debt.

Republican Governors fear getting voted out of office if they turn down the affordable health care act, don't play with the law or Else ??????????????
A while back, I had a discussion with a 50 year old who hates President Obama and the Health Care Reform act, along with hatred of all progressive ideas. This fellow said “no way is hell would he let anyone force him to buy health insurance. “ So, my question to him was if he had a major accident or illness, that lets say cost $100,000 or more, what would he do? His answer, “go to the ER.”
Of course with additional questions of how he would you pay for this, his answer was to pay $20.00 a month. Of course my response was $20.00 a month was not going to satisfy the hospital or ever going to pay the bill. I went on to point out that such as a plan of action on his part flies in the face of what his far right friends believe in, and that he would be considered one of the dead beats he and his far right friends accuse the progressives of doing.
The ACA is good for America. I know the tea baggers don't like it, because they would then have to stop getting medical care for free off of the tax payer dime.
So, we can say any adult who doesn't want health care insurance is not only a fool, and leach, but is pretty darn stupid.
American Girl-724855
That is a silly statement. For starters, the government cannot tell an employer how to structure it’s workforce. If they choose to go to part time jobs that don’t carry health insurance, there is very little obama can do about it and the company’s income is irrelevant. Secondly, if obama is fool enough to try to force coverage for part time workers, companies will simply switch gears and learn how to do more with less employees and shed jobs which is what many have already begun to do and again, there is nothing obama can do about that. They can’t tell an employer how big their workforce must be nor should they be able to.
And, just in case your employer hasn’t told you yet, the majority will shift employees to high-deductible health plans (HDHP) (any where from $1,500 – 10,000 deductible before benefits kick in, 80/20 or more split after) by 2018 as those are the only ones that won’t be subject to the Cadillac tax of 40%. PPOs and HMOs, etc. all have price tags that hit the tax ceiling. And before you go blaming the employers, this is exactly what obama and the dems were looking to accomplish. Many companies were already looking at moving staff over because healthcare costs were impacting the bottom line, but they were maintaining some PPOs for their lower income employees. HDHPs will work well for those in the upper income levels because they will be able to contribute to the health savings accounts and have the money there when they need it. Not so much for the lower income individuals who will have to choose between medical care and basic necessities such as food, shelter, etc. Studies conducted over the last 10 years show that most individuals on HDHPs will delay obtaining healthcare because they don’t have the money to pay, they will not fill prescriptions for the same reasons, and they many will have to do the same with regard to their children. Yes, obama is trying to make it where there will be assistance for the lower groups however that will be impacted by States that do not expand medicaid rolls and there are many of us who have enough self worth to never want to be on handouts.
Oh yeah, and you need to ask your representatives about the new and increased taxes they forgot to tell you about that will hit EVERY single American. Taxes on the sale of a home (3. Something %), increased social security tax, etc. Nothing is ever free.
Republicans seem to believe the right to life is only for the extremely wealthy who can afford the world-record inflated healthcare of the USA, corporations who they seem to believe are the only "citizens!!!" who have the right to survive, and fetuses and ends at birth for everyone else. (Very good point, Sarah!)
KraussK, the number of uninsured and of those unable to pay for healthcare in the USA is rapidly growing everyday and has been for many, many years, from before Obama was even born, in fact, and is rapidly growing higher. The unpaid bills of the very ill and/or injured uninsured and bankrupt people are inflating the costs more and more. As long as there is not some strong intervention to counter and control this serious problem it will continue and continue to add to the horribly inflated, world-record cost of US healthcare to where more and more people will be unable to afford healthcare including the elderly as any form of Medicare will become impossible to implement. Among the many terrible results of extremely expensive healthcare is that when many people get sick or have an injury they find themselves literally broke with an enormous medical debt and their wages garnished when they return to work. If this horrible trend continues most people (including the elderly) will eventually not be able to access healthcare in any way at all, or if they can, when they get very sick or injured they will find themselves broke and essentially an indentured servant to the healthcare providers. The healthcare problem is a very complicated one because of the nature of the beast, but one of the many problems with funding adequate healthcare is the fact that sick, severely handicapped and/or injured people are just not productive in the workplace and often unable to work in any capacity at all and thus the need for assistance from everyone for everyone else with funding for healthcare. Do not forget, we are all human and we all will die. We all have a 100% risk of getting old, sick or injured or handicapped and we do not know how long the undesirable states of severe illnesses or injury will last. At least with the ACA nearly all people can get some basic healthcare, preventative care and relief for pain and suffering of chronic or severe illnesses instead of no access to healthcare without becoming bankrupt by it and/or essentially an indentured servant for the healthcare providers for much of their lives, as is now the practice. What now needs to happen is for everyone in government in Washington to earnestly and productively work together and correct the bad/negative parts of the ACA and improve upon it as much as possible so it NOT will bankrupt the country as a whole but can provide basic healthcare and preventative care for all.
Oskar, politicians have been lying since time began to get elected and to get power. Even 50 years ago polls and studies revealed Americans viewed politicians as the most dishonest of 20 different general occupations. While the most common form of political dishonesty is making false and rosy promises they cannot possibly keep, the worst form of lying is by deception, in trying to make the majority believe they will be better off with bad policies that will obviously hurt the majority and greatly benefit a favored few at the expense of everyone else, and the Republicans have been extremely guilty of this much more than the Democrats, especially recently.
And Oskar, do not forget the facts, most of the biggest layoffs in the last 4 years have actually been with government jobs. I know some of those laid off people.
So good bye Oskar. The best sand to bury your head in probably lies in the Middle East somewhere where the Rebublicans recently spent a trillion dollars for regime change for a country with policies "not friendly to US vital interests" in an unnecessary war under false pretenses.

Dunno about you but I'm watching the fallout of you voting obama back in.... as the layoffs roll down the line.

Gotta keep an eye on Boehner et al, big time.
And for all those whiners about job loss - why not eliminate the middle-man insurance companies and go to
SINGLE PAYER, so everyone is insured, and costs go down for the whole system, period.....
Geesh.
What have Republicans got against having healthy citizens? Even Jesus healed the sick for free.
Besides, isn't it logical that any employer wants healthy employees? Healthy employees are more productive, and have less absentism due to being ill.
What's the problem here? Why are you against having healthcare for your fellow citizens? Congress has great healthcare--why not the rest of us?
Dear Maxwell

Hello American Girl,
I'm not sure how the Obamacare works but,I know the President has his heart for the middle and low income.Do you know how it's going to work?
It is NOT a loophole really. The law says healthcare for those working 30 hours or more. I am afraid there will be other unintended consequences of this way too huge bill as it is written.
he doesnt have a chouce, he doesnt contr0ol private companies, but hey you can think that all you want, welcome to socialism
Don't YOU squak when everything goes to pot in the next coming years. We republican's don't want to hear it. You wanted it you got it.
Robert: well, we can join the rest of the civilized world by providing basic health care to our citizens.
OR we can go the Republican route, just let those who can't afford their own personal insurance policies to DIE, DIE, DIE, right?
In business there's a saying... Tell me the rules and I'll play the game.
I don't know how the final program will turn out, but it won't be anything like what the government expects it will. One thing that politicians and people who listen to politicians forget is that all programs are administered by bureucrats who don't answer to the public.
Great to see Republicans hoping for the absolute worst so they can say, "I told you so." Yet you also claim to be the true flag waving patriots of this country. Always been nonsense! Get on board or get off people!
Boehner needs to be looking for a job, soon.
Robert -
I am 57, no kids...and for all the time i have been a 'homeowner' - I pay school taxes. On a percentage scale, school taxes are almost 90% of the entire assessment. Year after year, I pay it....and I don't spend all my days bitching about it. Education is the main ingredient to moving all of us forward.
So, when the time comes for you to send your children off to school, you best thank 'socialism' for paying for their education.
There are already rumours in the company that I work for, that the bean counters have calculated that it is cheaper to pay the penalty than fund employees health care plan. I predict this will happen frightening numbers.
That is pretty naive. I've run a business and found that part-time workers are the way to go because they are cheaper and easier to schedule. I would suppose that at some point labor statistics can be skewed to make part-timers count towards employment numbers and make it appear as if BHO is making things better.

Unintended consequences ? This law was 906 pages. That isn't counting the regulations that they aren't done writing and will be much longer. This is one of the longest laws ever written and they didn't know what they were doing ? You know they say the best place to hide a tree is in a forest. Most legislators are attorneys- and you are telling me they don't know how to write a legal document ? How would you like to buy the Brooklyn Bridge ?
American Girl,
Companies have already started the move. The 800,000 jobs they found last month were part time jobs that were not counted before. I also know of a service company that took most of their employees and made them independent contractors so they are not responsible for their taxes, insurance, etc.
My husband owns a small oil and gas exploration company. We will be converting from an "employee" type business to hiring "consultants". Our former employees will now be self-employeed consultants, and we won't have any employees per se. This takes the onus of providing obamacare off the business owner and onto the person receiving coverage. Of course, our consultants are white collar professionals and can easily provide private insurance coverage for themselves and their family members, and won't have to fall into the substandard care provided by obama. I believe you will see more and more businesses moving in this direction. For those businesses that primarily employee unskilled blue collar labor, I would predict that those workers will see their hours cut below 30 hours per week. Those workers will then be required to buy obamacare out of their own pockets.
Ironic, since those demographics were so in favor of it.
"My husband owns a small oil and gas exploration company. We will be converting from an "employee" type business to hiring "consultants"."
You gotta what ya gotta do...
What they will find out is that this will be increasing their tax liability because they will be paying on an individual basis both the Employers part and the employees part of social security taxes-about an additional 15% of tax liability. Then they will have to get insurance or get the 2.5% ObamaCare Tax Mandate Penalty.
"Ironic, since those demographics were so in favor of it."
They don't get it until their own wallets start to get effected.
Let me tell you this..
My wife and I make close to 100K. We are both 60+ years old, both work and pay our own health insurance. We were notified our premium will increase about $500 per month. When I called to find out why, I was told our coverage was out of the model set by obamacare. So I have to pay $500 penalty or accept a "more defined" package in line with prescribed plans. I can keep my premium the same - but less coverage.

That's totally illegal.
What's the name of the company?
Salvia - they may know how to write a legal document, but they just don't know how to write a good document for real people. Try reading some of their legal mumbo-jumbo and you'll see what I mean. If someone tells me they are an attorney, it does not enhance their image in my eyes because I've worked with many of them and they are usually more impressed with themselves than they have any right to be. Just remember, lawyers wrote the income tax code - that's hardly a good document!
wtf? There is no "substandard care" provided by the government, Not. People will be able to access free market health care from the same companies they've always gone to. What a stupid thing for you to say. The insurance they buy on the open market will probably be better and more affordable than whatever you cheapskates offered before. Jokes on you.
American
Sorry it is not illegal at all. In my company I have independent contractors and they have no set hours, no desks, they can work for anybody else, etc. and earn commissions on what they sell. My company happens to be a travel agency and that is a normal practice. I have also been audited by the IRS and it passed their test but the company I was talking about before is in a different business.
Oh-The fear mongers are really upset here, Pop goes the bubble.
Girl, you fell for that old saw that Obama cares about you? That he will fill that void in your life? That he will provide for you in sickness and in health? Are you that emotionally dependent that you fall into the arms of any guy who says he cares about you, then sticks you with the bar tab?
Make no mistake, the "War on Poverty", in place over forty years and trillions of dollars ago, was sold to us under the guise of compassion and good intentions. How did that work out?
It destroyed the family unit, created generations of people who contribute zero to society yet receive the fruits of your labors, disincentivized a healthy work ethic, diminished the value of education, and ironically, did not reduce the poverty level at all. Even key Dems knew that this was a great way to transparently "buy" voters who increasingly became dependent on government handouts.
Yeah, you really are a pushover for a smooth talking guy. When you let your emotions get in the way of history, hard data, and logic, you'll learn the hard way that when some anonymous government health care board denies you care due to rationing (yes, my dear, it absolutely will be rationed), the "caring, compassionate" Obama will be nowhere to be found.
The Civilized world the old continent is collapsing , their economies are broken , we are going in the same path. Nobody dies because they don't have health care, hospitals take patients regardless if they have money or not. We pay the bill anyway and is cheaper than Obamacare.
Your comment remind me how this law pass, the Dictator order to pass the law , without read what was in it.

American Girl. Cannot decide if you are being facetious or what. There is nothing illegal about having people on 1099s! None of us in business have any idea why you think so. And clearly companies will be moving toward that to avoid the Healthcare issue. Most will weigh the costs versus the tax benefits in deciding.
American Girl...proud product of our public education system.
Hello Everyone, It Appears that too many people have failed to taken the time to cite many resources to find out what "Obamacare" is really about and I will explain it the best way I can, however, I still strongly encourage you to do your own research.
*You know how many jobs have health care benefits as a given once they employ you? But its not free..how when you look on your pay stub, you see the money dictacted from it for "paying into" the plan?
*And how the majority of employers do not provide healthcare, and if they do its not comprehensive? Well the Health Care Reform Act is making it mandatory that they provide this..not as in give it to you for free, but provide it..and you the employee will still have to pay into..just like those other jobs.
*On the other hand, there will be other health care policies available for PURCHASE at a subsidized rate outside of these companies for self-employed people and other groups..that you will have to purchase, at a regulated rate by the government..meaning not the outrageous plans that many families pay for.
* If you don't do this, you will have to pay a tax, which is about $95 a year for average income families, a littler higher for higher income families and so on.
*So no one is getting anything free..the idea is that all Americans will be allowed access to healthcare..at an affordable rate and will mandated to have it and those choose not to will pay an extra tax..if 20 million Americans pay an extra $100 a year because they refuse health insurance..consider this an avenue for revenue raising and budget balancing.
Basically in a nutshell from a business standpoint its mandating that ALL Mid level to big businesses provide a service for its employees..they pay into it and you don't overcharge them for it..the choose not to have it then they pay.
Lulu: American Girl isn't being facetious, she is simply ignorant. She exemplifies the type of worker that will have his/her hours cut to below 30/week, thereby insuring that she will have to purchase her obamacare from her own wallet.
TeeHee.
American,
Please state how it is illegal if you can. I live in Florida where basically the employers can do whatever they like with no consequences. I can fire anybody I want and the only thing I have to do is offer them COBRA which is a Federal law.
Most real estate agents are independent contractors, and if you have ever heard of an outside travel agent they are independent contractors.
@not a socialist,
Not everyone is going to skip out on taking care of their employees to save a couple of dollars. You didn't mention if you currently provide insurance for them and what the cost difference would be after your tax credits. I suspect this is ACA is good for the people and you will lose a lot of good help because they can shop around now for better paying consulting positions or full time work. I also suspect it will help the middle class have more options for the jobs they may want since they are no longer tied to their job for this insurance.
Ironic that companies that our out for themselves to make a profit don't like this bill.
Before companies try to convert all of their employees to consultants there are some things that they should consider.
In order to be truly considered an independent contractor, the "consultant" must be free from direction and control of the company, not be in the employer's usual course or place of business and be customarily working in an independent trade or business of the same nature.
This is the wording from the State of Alaska but I know that it's in line with the federal laws regarding employment and reporting.
I didn't just pull this information out of my rear. I spent eight years explaining and enforcing these statutes.
When you can substitute business with a press printing assignations it really all is a moot point.
The key is no longer who has better business. It's who is closer to that coveted painting operation.
american girl will never learn.govt sends her a check every month and deposits money to her ebt card, and as long as it keeps coming she will be spreading her ignorance on her comp,as she has nothing else to do all day
Small business owner here. There are IRS guidelines that determine whether a worker is an employee or self-employed contractor. Many workers can fall into the self-employed category and it's Totally legal. Go to IRS. gov to find the Publication that deals with this subject and read the details there.
Little Girl you know nothing about business it's is not illegal to do that and I have a lawyer I sleep better that way, your just a blogger that's is vary missed informed.
American Girl, You are full of sh##! It is NOT illegal! I just went over this with the State department of revenue for my business and it was fully discussed as a perfectly correct way to do business! You are going to see one business even open up several LLC's just to spread employment to avoid the ObamaCare. Get prepared! It IS LEGAL!
American Girl, It is clear you are trying to see where you stand in your free adventure of ObamaCare. Quit fishing for information. It isn't free! YOU will have to pay! YouTube and search "Obama going to pay for my gas and mortgage" and watch the black bimbo in euphoria over thinking her life is going to be grand with Oblunder as Presidumb. Amazing the brainwashed ignorance in this country.
American Girl-724855
Wow what did they teach you in indoctamation you have no clue on what is leagal or how buisness really works.
Yes they can change anyone to part time or move all or some jobs to independent contractor. and they can also cut all the jobs they want and Obama canot say a dam thing he has no power there and they have a constitution and case law on their side
And no they do not have to pay for healthcare these people and I am a contractor who just lost his healthcare now I have to pay the yearly penalty err uh tax>
To those of you on this thread who so quickly tossed your uninformed criticisms and immature insults at 'American Girl's' posts, above, her response was absolutely correct. The "contract worker" designations described -- to which she was responding -- would not be allowed by the IRS.
Classifying a Worker:
To decide whether a worker is a contract worker or a permanent worker the employer must determine who is responsible for establishing the worker's duties and monitoring his/her performance.
* If an outside company has that authority, the individual is a contract worker.
* If the company itself has that authority, the individual is a permanent worker.
If there are any written contracts involving benefits, such as pension, 401k, insurance or vacation, that a company is paying to a worker, the employee is a permanent worker, not a contractor. If none of these exist and the employer is not withholding taxes, nor establishing the worker's duties nor monitoring his/her performance, the worker is classified as a contract worker
If an employer classifies a worker as a contractor without any reasonable basis, the company may be held liable to pay all accrued back employment taxes and is subject to penalties.
* For example, if a company has employees classified as permanent doing a particular job, it would not have a reasonable basis to classify another employee performing the same job as a contract worker.
The Internal Revenue Service has VERY strict requirements for a contract worker.
In general, if a company has strict control over the person's work schedule, work location and closely examines the work process, the worker is considered an "employee" by the IRS, not a contract worker, regardless of how she is paid.
The penalties levied by the IRS for unlawful identification of an "employee" as a "contract worker" far outweigh any potential savings a company may anticipate by using the tactic to reduce overhead.
And once discovered the IRS will investigate as many years of previous tax filings as are available, and will levy stiff penalties for any evidence, or even suspicion of past abuses.
And under IRS statutory authority, the employer is guilty until proved innocent. The burden of proof of innocence rests entirely on the employer.
An employer with a lick of sense does not attempt to evade IRS rules and regulations in the pursuit of greater profit. That is the pursuit of a fool.
Speaker Boehner is making it clear that Obama and the democrats own Obamacare. There's another election in 2 years.
Over 50% of US Voters have proven they don't understand economics by voting for Obama. The lessons in economics starts now and not as a academic class that most people slept through but as experience through the pocket book.
The costs of Obamacare will be paid for by the middle class and the poor. The rich have too much money to be affected by Obamacare. Businesses pass their costs to consumers or the companies go bankrupt. So as a consumer you'll be paying more for goods and services. As an employee your job will be eliminated if at all possible.
There are two wise old sayings that are appropriate as the hairy unwashed are schooled - (1) Be careful what you wish for you might get it. (2) A fool and their money are soon parted.
Robert from Liberal Oregon that is the obvious. There are different laws in each state as well. You can also pay an employee lest say a $400 "salary" in some states and make them work until they drop or go find another job. Some states allow "piece work" pay. When it comes down to it, you are going to need 2 jobs. One 20 and another 20 to get your 40. Not many companies are going be able to afford ObamaCare with the competitive market place we have to do business! Business owners are taking risks to be in business, and should be rewarded for doing so. Not to pay for your f-ing healthcare. Enjoy the second job!
Most of these bloggers are just trying to write Persuasive Blog Posts they do not have a clue what they are writing about but they think in there vary little brains that if they just keep writing it over and over again one they will be right.
wrong
There are a ton of unintended, or what you would hope were unintended consequences in ObamaCare. It is simply a massive bill that was poorly written with too much influence from special interest groups. There are simply too many loopholes to count and some of them are really going to hurt people. Congress could tweak this thing for the next 50 years and never get it right. It was rushed, and not well thought through and that will become far more evident to everyone over the next couple years.
Sure there are parts of ObamaCare that are good, but they in no way shape or form outweigh the bad. Why Congress feels it has to ram through a massive poorly written bill and not just the best pieces of it is still a mystery. Corporations hire people to read the mandates, and to exploit the loopholes that improve their bottom line even if employees pay the price. It would have been a much better bill if it had been mandated that members of Congress would have to be covered under it.
ObamaCare is already putting people out of work, and I know this for a fact first hand. It has set in motion an entirely new landscape for healthcare that for at least the next decade or two will not be an improvement. Likewise it will not improve on its own, it will take major revisions to the bill which is only going to increase the cost.
If congress rushes tax reform, entitlement reform, or debt reduction with the same callous approach they took with healthcare this country is in some serious trouble. Members of congress are paid quite handsomely, and with perks and benefits from the top shelf. They just never truly think through a bill, and yet that is what they are actually paid to do. But they roll out some monstrosity, sell it to the public with a sentence or a paragraph highlighting the two or three things in the bill worth passing. Then everyone but them are stuck with the consequences of a poorly written piece of legislation.
Obama-care = less jobs do I need to say it again?
Ok Obama-care = less jobs good night
We are all ready to support the president. The election is over.
First off, the term "contract" employee is versatile. You are trying to agrue apples and oranges. Many companies are changing their employees to less that 32 hours, because that is the legal definition of a full time employee, and one of the determining factors.
It's now far cheaper to have two employees 20 hours than one for 40. And what are the Feds going to do.
They are also finding that if they change their employees to "salary".. or 1099 compensation salaries.. they can also control the aspects of the requirments.
You can transfer someone from wage to contract employee, IF you re-classify your workforce. That only takes a change of title and/or job assignment...
Many employees have been going from full/part time to 1099-Misc for years, when they have layoffs, it's typical to retain someone to freelance.

"We are all ready to support the president. The election is over."
No, we are "not" all ready to support the president. 48% voted against Obama. The reasons for voting against Obama aren't resolved because there was a vote taken.
Obama and the 50% that voted for him have 48% that didn't vote for him that will work just as hard to make certain his job is as difficult as they can make it.
I don't believe one word coming from this lying drunk, more Republican obstruction is on the way. It is truly incredible; this Republican/Tea party congress has the lowest approval ratings in the history of our country so what do the brain dead voters do..... they send them back to Washington so they can continue doing absolutely NOTHING, go figure.
BTW: all you right wingers still spewing hate........ GET OVER IT FOOLS, the election is over and the Democrats won. God I swear you people sound like a bunch of spoiled children stomping your feet and crying about something you can't change.............. Your all pathitic little people pretending to be real Americans............
The pot only stinks of your own crap. The American people held their noses as they emptied that pot. They have not forgotten who took that stinking dump in the first place, It was you Bush supporters. If shame was the crucial American value of years gone by , you Republicans would be cashing in your chips.
That is a shameful statement, Dee Ten. You shame your fellow citizens with that rhetoric. Whatever happened to being an American first, and recognizing that elections have consequences for governance, and express the will of the American people. Are nation is a Representative Democratic Republic. Governance (and mandates for setting a national agenda) have never required the unanimous consent of the people. The US Constitution speaks of majorities and pluralities, not unanimous consent.
We have never had unanimity in an American presidential election and never will. And many elections in our nation's history were FAR closer to an even split of the electorate than was the case in this election. What makes the minority of voters in this election and the 2008 election so unique and special in your eyes?
During the first 55 years of my lifetime the President of the United States was deemed to have earned the mandate, by virtue of his election by the people, to set the nation's agenda in accordance with his party's platform, his campaign positions and goals for the nation enunciated during his campaign.
And the president and the American people looked to Congress to enact that agenda by presenting bills, holding vigorous but civil debate, drafting legislation, voting on amendments, more debate, compromise and then enacting legislation.
There has always been a majority party in each house of Congress, and sometimes those majorities were the same party as the occupant of the White House, but as often as not the houses were split, or were controlled by the opposite party from the president. But the president and the majority parties were always joined in governance by "the loyal opposition" minority party. One only has to look at the way the business of Congress was conducted during the 55 years preceding the presidency of Barack Obama to see how the founding fathers intended our government to work.
It was not always pretty, often far from it. But in times of national crises and the need for cohesive and decisive immediate actions (such as wars and economic recessions) both parties argued their differences vigorously -- like ladies and gentlemen -- and got down to the business of working together to find consensus to solve our nations problems.
Even following the 2000 election when more than half of the American electorate believed that George W. Bush may not have been legitimately elected to office, but rather placed in office by a 5:4 split decision of the Supreme Court stopping the vote recount in Florida and effectively awarding the majority of electoral college votes and the presidency to Mr. Bush (don't forget that Al Gore won the popular vote by more than a half million votes in 2000) the Democrats and Independents (and some Republicans) of this nation who did not vote for Mr. Bush did not say that they would "work just as hard to make certain his job is as difficult as they can make it." This nation came together after the most divisive (and arguably illegitimate) election of a President in US History. And the American people and the Congress got the work of the nation done.
For the past four years however there has been no "loyal opposition" in the United States of America. What has taken its place is a "disloyal obstruction" who in large part will not even acknowledge that the man who was elected to the office of President is even a natural born American Citizen. Disgraceful!
In just the first 3-years of President Obama's administration, the Republican Minority -- during a time of a national economic emergency -- has used the threat of filibuster 152 times to prevent even debating legislation presented by the majority party, a record in US History. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear what the minority strategy would be, regardless of the pain caused to the American people when he said his number one priority was to make sure Obama is a one-term president.
While only 3 presidential nominees were held up by the Congress for more than 3 months during the first year of the George W. Bush presidency, 63 of President Obama's nominees were subjected to delay tactics, leaving important government posts unfilled. President Obama had to resort to recess appointments just to be able to keep the business of the nation moving.
The Republican party of the United States has transitioned from the "Grand Old Party" of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan ... to become a national disgrace of petulant and ill-mannered children who have forgotten their loyalty to our nation and instead pledged their loyalty to Grover Norquist and the most wealthy elite.
Republicans in congress have decided that if they cannot have their own way without any compromise -- even though they lost the election of the American people to set the nation's agenda -- they are going to obstruct, obstruct, obstruct regardless of the protracted pain that obstruction has caused the American people.
I do not see any evidence that these sorry excuses for American citizens in the US Congress intend to behave any differently in the coming two years than they have for the past four years. I see no evidence that they even intend to act like grownups.
"Patriots" would put the country and the needs of the American people before party affiliation. Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan would not even recognize the Republican Party of 2012; nor would they be welcome in the Republican Party of 2012!
so to you dems if the hcb is so good why do the politicians still have an elite medical program? why if its so good do they not join in to show they believe in the new ways? they don't care since it doesn't effect them and our taxes pay for their insurance when the gov joins in then maybe i'll believe the hcb is a good thing but all i see now is let them eat cake mentality
dirp--All you neocons are right, if people can't afford to get their own health insurance, just let them DIE, right?
wtf? has anyone ever heard of letting people die that don't have healthcare? i'm 48 and never heard of nor know anyone dead because they had no health care.

"That is a shameful statement, Dee Ten. You shame your fellow citizens with that rhetoric. Whatever happened to being an American first, and recognizing that elections have consequences for governance, and express the will of the American people."
Your bloviaion about the constitution should cause you embarrassment as you so eloquently expose your ignorance.
The constitution sets forth three co-equal branches of government. The president is only in charge of the Executive branch. The Legislative branch was not established to support the president but rather to serve as a check and balance against the president.
The majority of voters have elected Republications to control the House which is a mandate to keep the president under control from doing whatever he pleases.
We the people do not work for the government but rather the government works for us. As an employer of the government, I will continue to support and withhold support for that government as I damn well please.
American girl I'm a real state broker and my agents are independent salesperson and they get a 1099. you are completely wrong any company could convert to independent contractor.
One day, we may all come to agree, that The Affordable healthcare Act is one of Americas greatest achievements - and credit will then be given due - to its main architect - Mitt Romney
So many Republicans are spewing thier hatred once again for the President. They are saying we are all doomed and will have no jobs left or food left cause people won't be able to afford anything. They say even Utilities are going to sky rocket. After listening to all of them I felt gloomy ugggg.
TO: Marginalized who wrote:
Been there, done that. When hasn't Romney been given credit for coming up with Affordable Healthcare.
Republicans convinced Romney that it was something to be ashamed of, so therein lies the "shame".
Christina, the problem is that President Obama really doesn't care what anyone who disagree's with him thinks. He isn't their President in his mind. President Obama said, very emphatically, under his adminstration energy prices will 'necessarily skyrocket'....that has been his plan.
Try sticking to the conversation.
Well said!
then why are the politicians exempt from it being mandated on them?
TO: Christina-1981913 who wrote:
Not to worry, Republicans have been getting everything backwards for decades now, which is how Republicans turned record surpluses into record deficits, and turned a healthy economy into the 2nd Great Depression.
If Republicans tell you it's gonna rain tomorrow, make plans for an outdoor picnic because that's just how wrong Republicans get it every time.
"...and (due) credit will then be given to (Obamacare's) main architect - Mitt Romney"
Judging by the urgency with which Mitt distanced himself - OK, "ran" - from his own achievement during the campaign, he might not appreciate that.
American Girl - I'm am trying to help out the Republicans here.
Obamacare/Romneycare was a GOP idea, it is a worthy idea, and it should be embraced by all Americans
The affordable healthcare Act is something we should all be immensely proud of.
As a Dem, I have no problem crediting Mitt Romney with its creation.
Funny Norcal, but in the first debate Mitt Romney could be seen beaming with pride when he talked about Romneycare. He had to back away in hope it would gain him votes and win the election. If he had won, Obamacare would have gone to the states, but it would still have been Romneycare.
When the party of no keeps saying no....sometimes they have to be overruled. This is the strength of the Presidency sometimes. Democrats saw that under George W...it is the nature of the beast.
Marginalized... "and credit will then be given due - to its main architect - Mitt Romney" Who vowed the first thing he would do would be to dismantle it. The guy talks out both sides of his ass.
"Many people consider the things which government does for them as social progress, but they consider the things government for others as socialism." Earl Warren
Christina, Why do liberals always call criticism of their leaders hate? I understand that in someplace like Cuba, as they know only the party way and dare not speak their minds for fear of their government. In a free country like this, criticism of any political party or leader that you disagree with is not just a civil right, it's your civic duty. It's scary to see how some citizens of this nation have lost sight of the basic values that it was founded on.
Don't waste your time with the righties, they still don't get it as to why Romney lost so badly, and they never will, all they see is hatred. We may have not liked Romney, but hate was never in the picture, I sure hope you enjoy your life with all that hate and anger, you are truly a sad bunch of people.
Theodore Roosevelt was the first presidential candidate to run on a platform of universal healthcare. Romney said he thought that healthcare should be decided at a state level, for and by each state. I think the term "affordable healthcare" is premature. I think it is too early to make that claim. There is also a question as to the future quality of healthcare, especially with the looming doctor shortage- and you can quote me on that. There will be a doctor shortage. I think universal coverage is a good thing. I, however, do not believe enough has been done to address the actual cost of healthcare.
Looser...... worse second terms? Are you referring to GWB?
The also said Romney was going to win in a landslide because Fox News and Karl Rove told them so. Might want to ask them how that worked out for them?
NO HE WON'T ...not by parents of children with cancer, like me, who watched as he simultaneously sold his “success” as affordable healthcare's beneficent bi-partisan author and threatened us with it's repeal for his own self serving partisan benefit. His legacy is lost. The PRESIDENT is the one that made the risk, acted with integrity and will be rewarded by history. To families faced with financial ruin, Mitt Romney is the biggest hypocrite in modern history.
The greatest problems facing this country are played out every day on this blog. As opposed to maybe, FINALLY, trying to work in a bi-partisan way, it's we won you lost your fault, blah, blah, blah. The recession happened because of failed policies on both sides and politicians who care about themselves and how to make themselves look good. As opposed to what used to be God and Country, it's party first and everyone else be damned. The healthcare law was created at a time when the country really needed job creation and was solely partisan; needing legal loopholes to get through and failing to address many of the issues brought up in this discussion because President O'Bama never ran or worked in a business and didn't care to listen to those that had. Anyone who thinks any of these politicians really care one single bit about them is delusional. They won't bare the costs of this plan and neither will any other millionaire (sp). Social Security comes out of my paycheck. Medicare comes out of my paycheck. And I'll bet this will come out of my paycheck also somewhere along the lines. One final thought, and it's an old joke that truly fits. Narcissists and sociopaths coming from who come from low income families live in jail. Narcissists and sociopaths coming from upper income families live in Washington, D.C.
Healthcare is 20% of the GDP. Why? The answer is not because it that wonderful, the answer is because its a business...and business have one goal...make profits for their investors. Obamacare does not change that by the way. You might respond with the fact that profit margins are low and research is expensive. Yes profit MARGINS (percentage) are low but the quantity of profit dollars is not. Also it must be noted that businesses do everything possible to reduce their tax burden. They do this by spending money on elaborate new buildings, bonuses to workers, huge CEO salaries, writing off unpaid bills owed by patients, paying dividends to shareholders....etc. They make money by overcharging the insurance companies, overcharging people who have insurance but have the ability to mortgage their homes or raid their kid's education funds to pay. Obama care is a complex law but it in effect takes power away from insurance companies by no longer allowing them to drop customers that might end up costing them money (getting cancer for example), it stops them from being allowed to deny someone who wants to start a new policy but has a pre-existing condition, it limits the percentage of profit by mandating how much of the revenue must go to actual care. I will leave you with one thought...many people get suck in a rut and work at the same dead-end job for years just to keep their families healthcare coverage. WHAT IF that burden was lifted....he could quit that worthless job, accept a short term insurance subsidy, and actually take a chance at being an entrepreneur.
Lol! The hypocrisy of your bunch is mind blowing. Why did Romney lose? Well, it sure had a great deal to do with the minorities who never cared to vote, before a black guy ran four years ago and now. That's not racist though, is it? Naaah. It also helped Obama to have so many "white-guilt" libs once again buy his HOPE b.s. and empty promises and actually believe he was looking out for the working man. The majority of twenty-somethings know next to nothing about politics, yet jumped on the ever-so-popular Obama bus that the Hollywood gits bought. But you guys can blame Bush for another four and when Obama fails again (it WILL happen), you can still blame Bush in 2016 and beyond.
Most of the Obummer zombies are looking at the election results like it's an F'n football game. "we won, you lost." You dummies, we ALL lost. He isn't going to fix it and you can't keep pointing the finger to the Reps for Obama's mistakes. Such moronic goons.
SHUT UP LOSERS !!!
Virginia is not a minority owned state.
It was our true - blue white guys who voted Mr. Obama in office.
Minorities are the ones who will pay for it though... so... your attempt to pull the wool makes sense.
Exactly! Govt. controlled jobs. The main difference between Republicans and Democrats is this. Republicans always feel that they can better themselves with little or no help. Democrats feel that they can only better themselves with more help, because in their mind they are incapable of thinking independently.
When you have a country that is moving more towards having one mindset rather than thinking independently , you lose out on creativity and creating businesses. Nobody will want to create any jobs, because they feel it won't be worth the sacrifice anymore.
At least democrats can finally claim that Obama is responsible for the fiscal cliff we are heading towards. Nothing can be blamed on Bush anymore. THIS IS OBAMA'S PRESIDENCY AND HIS POLICIES ARE NOW BEING ENFORCED.
How many of these sectors created jobs?
ObamaCare was a worthy cause, but the bill that was crafted is pretty pathetic. It is not as if there needs to be much debate on that fact, it is law, it is being implemented, and it will not take long for everyone to learn first hand that it leaves a lot to be desired. Congress can tweak ObamaCare for the next 50 years and never get it right. It really is that big of a mess, and the price tag will not be in the proposed ballpark for long. So defend it, rip it a part, it makes no difference. It is the law, and it will not be popular after it has been implemented. Members of congress exempted themselves from this bill, and for good reason.
American Girl, you should really check your facts...
1. Clinton left office with surplus, correct.. thanks to huge loans we aquired to balance the budget.
2. George Bush deal with the second bust of the .com bubble, along with the debt from Clinton Health care initiative that nearly bankrupted states.
3. The President does NOT approve spending, he only requests the budget, then signs the checks.
4. George Bush's largest jump was in the last 2 years of his 2nd term... under a Democratic Majority in both Houses of Congress... THEY were the one's spending the money... And the wars were "put on credit card", as Obama pointed out, so they haven't even paid for it yet.
5. Less than a week after holding Social Security and Welfare hostage for the GOP to raise the debt limit, President Obama GAVE Egypt and several other Muslim based countries BILLIONS of dollars, forgave Billions of dollars they owed us and promised BILLIONS more in future...
Yeah, and the Republicans are backwards? Sorry, didn't no forward thinking was letting our citizens suffer, while sending tax dollars to others...
Connecticutt Yankee, that is a myth. The ACA (aka ObamaCare) says that members of congress and their staffs must buy insurance on exchanges set up by the Act. Notice it says they have to "buy" the insurance, just like everyone else; it's not free.
Larry there was no Democratic spending during the last two years of the Bush administration. That is delusional. Bush had for every year up until then signed all bills and all spending because it was exactly what he wanted spent and the republican rubber stampers did what they were told. Then Democrats took office and Bush was no longer that signer in chief. Bush began vetoing everything that came forward. That included a lot of good policies that Democrats wanted for the country. So all the spending and all the deficit was entirely from the republican Congress/President Bush.
The era of obstructionism may be over. Republicans know it won't help them in any way, shape, or form. Look for a lot more to get done in this second term.
We can only hope. Maybe both "sides" can learn to work better together, and to recognize that we are all in the same big boat. Maybe. No compromise, no future. For any of us.
Maybe this is Boehner's signal to all the Tea Baggers,
"The Party's over, you lost, you cost us the Senate and the White House, time for the grownups to take back control and actually govern."
If it wasn't for the extremist Tea Bagger's, fully funded by the Koch Bros. and the Grover Norquistians, the GOP could have taken control of the government.
Instead, in spite of unemployment at 7.99999%, GDP at less than 1.5% growth, the dollar dropping, real income falling and yes, our diplomat and 3 others dying in Benghazi (funny how 132 marines in Lebanon, 3000 innocent civilians dying in NY, PA, and DC, thousands more dying in Iraq wasn't mentioned against Bush and Reagan) the GOP still couldn't put together a party platform and candidate to support it which could get 50%+1 vote anywhere but the states where the creationism is science and the earth is 6,000 years old.
The only way the GOP will get back into control of the government is if they leave their extremist religious views out of the government. There is a reason the Constitution has the religious freedoms in the FIRST Amendment. Neocon, TeaThuglicans have to remember what that is.
With the end of obstructionism (I call it checks and balances) watch the 16 trillion dollar debt explode. I for one hope the Republicans stonewall everything Obama does, not to discredit him, but to put a stop to his reckless spending.
They were going to go along with it because it's a hoax they were against what would have passed if Bob Dole won the presidency. Whatever the repubs want, they will get it regardless if they pretend to be against it. Obstructing the president is a scripted routine to get the base excited about controlled opposition without thinking critical of who they support. Republicans say far outrageous nonsense all the time so most atomically assume a liberal is better at a leadership role. We have a false 2 party dictatorship false paradigm.
drip, you are what I would label an extreme leftist with all your vitriol.
Hard for any party to reach across the aisle when your hand gets slapped or closed door meetings are held. So much for putting the whole ACA debate on C=Span. Didn't Pelosi say "we need to pass the bill to find out what's in it"? WTF? Congress voting on a bill they knew nothing about?
@Chuckzul: There is a big difference between obstructionism and checks and balances. When members of the opposition take a vow to defeat any bill supported by the President, that is obstruction. No matter what the bill was, they vowed to oppose it. Checks and balances is a great tool, but an attitude that states up front that no matter what you do we're not going to allow it - well, that's just unproductive by definition.
It's the bible story with America as the 'baby'. Who loves the baby more? Will the Dems negotiate or come in like last time and expect the Rebublican Congress to throw away the promises they made to the voters and give Obama whatever he wants? Who will bend to save the baby?
I think Obama and the Democratic party divided this country with horrible attack ads on Romney's character that were totally untrue and really nasty. You can see how nasty this party is when anyone comes out and says they support conservatives. The mean and nasty twitter comments start flying like bullets. Even though I like some of the Democratic views I would never join this party because of that. You can see the hypocrisy all over the place. Hateful people.
Republicans get too far off the right side as well. The anti abortion, anti gay stuff needs to go. Time to move on and let people do what they do. But you don't see the hatred as much from the Republicans. Mitt tried to follow a higher path and he did. I think he conducted himself in a more civilized manner for sure. Republicans don't hate Latinos or women they just have not figured out how to reach out and connect yet. They will. They will figure it out.
In the next 4 years it's going to be ugly. We have not yet hit bottom but we'll get there. I say Congress should just let Oblamo have at it. Let him do whatever the hell he wants to and then we can sit back and watch it all fall apart in record speed. Anyone been watching the east coast and all those people that still have not gotten any help? That's Obama. Jumped right out there for the photo op to look good and now he's off having a good old time once again living the good life. Lame.
MizzC, what untrue ads against Romney? He is an empty shell. He has no idea what he believes, which is why what he says changes not just year to year or month to month; not even week to week or day to day. Sometimes not only hour to hour - he's given speeches and said two opposite things (supposedly 'beliefs') in the same 15 minute soliloquy. That's not untrue, it's not vicious, and there is no vitriol. It is a fact, backed up by time after time after time (all caught on tape and available in transcript form), that he shifts his positions more often than Ron Jeremy. He never ever says what he means because he doesn't have a belief in his body.
Mitt Romney reminds me of the old country song... "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything; you've got to be your own man, not a puppet on a string; never compromise what's right..." I would vote for someone with whom I disagreed on every issue if I believed that that person had solid beliefs in what he/she was doing if the opponent didn't seem to be nothing more than a programmable mouthpiece.
I hope they do to. Between the changing demographics in this Country and the last two years of unprecedented obstructionism...that will be the final death rattle of the Republican Party.
Sandy affected a much larger area than Katrina...much larger. Would you like to compare the Republican response to Katrina to the Democratic response to Sandy...would you really?
As to your sorry comment regarding who would save the baby...it wasn't the Democrats that caused the US Credit Rating to drop...it was Republicans. It wasn't the Democrats that insisted on the Sequestration now 45 days away...it was the Republicans.
Your problem is that you don't recognize a monster when you see it...so you support it.
Tax the rich tax the poor tax and then what? you have to cut spending.
we have so much oil here but your president hates that you see oil is a bad word
Oh yeah there will be a lot done in the next four years. Wishful thinking. Compromise does not mean abandoning your principles, so it will be back to business as usual pretty quick unless both sides move toward the middle.
MizzC, you have a very short and selective memory. The Democrats are no angels, but the Right has been attacking Obama for five years now on his religion, place of birth, and his patriotism. The Republicans chose not to participate in crafting the Affordable Care Act - Senator Corker (R) admitted that after it was passed. During the debt ceiling crises, Obama was willing to compromise, and even offered more cuts than the Republicans requested, but at the last minute Boehmer balked and reneged on the deal because the Tea Party didn't want to compromise, period. Some (like Bachmann) wanted the country to default. Don't see the hatred from the Republican side? A young lady testifies to Congress about birthcontrol, and the Republican spokeman calls her a slut. It's not the Right that has referred to half the country - the 47% - as lazy freeloaders and stupid.
Logic Required - once again trhe second law of the internet is corroborated i.e. A poster willl post something that is exactly in conraDICTION TO THEIR NAME. e,g. someone naqm3ed tHErATIONALonE WILLL POST "pRESIDENT oBAMA IS TRAINING AN ARMY OF GAY MUSLIM SPIDER MONKEYS TO COME DOWN THE CHIMNEYS OF WHITE PEOPLE ON chRISTMAS eVE FOR THE purpose of stealing their automatic weapons. THis post willl invariably be seconded by some one callled ThinkforMyself.
Let's seee if "everything is on the table " when it comes time to raise taxes on Boehner's controlllers.
but how do we pay for it?
you have always been paying for it. hospitals have to treat everybody
obama will do exactly what he did during his second term as his first .. play golf and let his wife take vacations.. nothing more .. all you who supported and voted for him can pat yourself on the back .. welcome to our new socialist govt .. hope you are happy when EVERYONE is poor in 20 years and the govt owns your ass
Hospitals have to treat every one but,if you have no insurance you pay out of pocket.
We were supposed to be taxed for 4 years before the implementation of it because of the amount of money it will cost. Obama cut it down to 2 years during his first term, doesn't make sense mathematically. The predicted cost was way off when they forced it through, Obama also said it wouldn't increase the deficit, without 2 extra years of taxes (which were spent not saved BTW) how can it be paid for without increasing the deficit? It's way more than hospitals treating everyone you morons, go read the damn thing. If you understood what this will do to small business you would not be in favor of it, a whole lot of people are going to lose their jobs because their employers will not be able to afford it and paying their salaries.
That's assuming there's anything in the pocket. That's a whole 'nother crime (the fact that people without insurance get raped), but those who don't have the money obviously pay nothing. And that 'loss' runs up the bill for the rest of us....
But if you can't afford the cost, they ruin your credit and/or force you into bankruptcy - and everyone else STILL pays!
Let's see, basic math would say that no matter how low rates would go for the government, covering 30 million people is definitely going to cost much less than 350 million people. No matter what the Socialist left tells you, if it comes from the government it's NOT free. Taxes pay for it. And taxes com from those who produce. Soon those who produce will decide to produce less because it's not worth it to support everyone else at their own expense.
I have already heard from several of my friends their companies are dropping insurance altogether for their employees as soon as this goes into full effect. The fine costs less and is only instituted once per employee. As well, like pensions that used to be offered until Socialist Security was instituted, companies will decide why pay for insurance for employees and also pay for this garbage.
Obama and the Dems have figured out that they will gain more and more power by promising everything to everyone for "free" and getting as many people dependent on government as possible.
So far it's working pretty good. For them. Us? We're screwed.
Poor people never pay out of pocket. They just show up and get treated for free.
Sure the hospital bills them. But they still don't have any money, so it hardly matters.
Health care isn't like other products and services. It is not subject to the rules of supply and demand. People who get sick or injured ALWAYS go to the hospital. They never pick to not go because they're broke. And they get treated, whether or not they can afford to ever pay for it. Unlike any other professional, doctors swear under oath to treat all patients.
...
We've had socialized medicine for decades. Just the most expensive and least efficient form possible.
The costs have been passed on to insurance holders in the form of higher premiums.
So, that's what Obama means when he says he wants to "level the playing field". He wants to bring the upper class down to the middle and give so much to the lower class that they are now in the new "middle". What a crock. The government should have no place in meddling with "the playing field". Whatever happened to "earning" what you get and keeping what you earn? As far as Obamacare or "The Affordable Healthcare Act" that's a pipe dream. The only ones that will be able to afford it are the ones already on Medicaid and the rich/wealthy. Those on Medicaid don't pay for it anyway!!!
Christina, what happens when they can't afford to pay out of pocket? That's right, the hospital writes it off as a loss, the US taxpayer picks up the tab and health care costs rise to cover the deadbeats.
Excellent question. The focus has been on how to distribute the wealth, which is an important question. The more important question is how to grow our wealth as a nation, because it doesn't matter how you divide it if there is nothing to divide.
jay: There have been people decrying taxes since the dawn of civilization. If you don't want to live in a civilized society, go find your own personal island, buy it, and live there.
There may be some companies which will drop health insurance. They would likely do it anyway. They will lose some employees because of it. The reality is, Obamacare simply requires employers to offer an affordable health care policy. The employer is not required to pay for it, only to have it available to the employee. The latest definition of an affordable policy is one which has minimum essential coverage (which amounts to basic coverage) and costs no more than 9.5% of the employees pay. If you are talking about minimum wage, 40 hours per week, the policy would have to cost the employee more than $27.55 per week.
There are many, many insurance companies offering a basic insurance policy for an individual for less than $55 a month. There is no reason for any employer to drop coverage, unless they prefer to pay taxes than to offer benefits to their employees.
Any employer who arbitrarily drops coverage before reviewing alternatives with their insurance agent and their accountant is a fool and probably a Republican.
I lost my job back in 08 to a company that was replacing the permanant employees with temps, I'm a Degreed Electronics Tech, I didn't go to school to work for $10/hr or work as a temp or a part timer, thus I'm now self employed and don't have health ins, so I guess that makes me a dead beat? I would never be able to afford to pay out of pocket for a hospitial visit
Universal healthcare is a good thing, it is just new so people are scared. I for one do not want to walk down the street explaining to my children why people are dying outside the hospital instead of being treated inside (because they have no insurance and no one will pay). Nor do I want to pay for an irresponsible senior who didn't save any money for retirement or a twenty-something who snowboards without insurance. Obamacare makes sure that everyone pays and everyone benefits. Those people who hearken back to "the good old days" should remember that no one raised their barn by themselves... their neighbors came around and helped.
One way or another we are all paying for those who cannot. At least this way everyone (no pun intended) has some skin in the game. I find it ridiculous that you write a check to insure your home, your boat, your car, (or whatever), without complaining about government interfering in your private life but you do not want to write a check for your health. This system has worked for Europe for a long time and it is about time we grow up as a nation and quit pretending like we are cowboys from the 19th century. Remember, if you will, that the only people who really had any opportunity TO succeed were wealthy, white men.
This is just the next step in equal opportunity for everyone. Get over it.
Small Business has been hurting so bad for the last four years and now four more I'm still in shock
Dude man, that is just some of the dumbest crap I have heard anyone spew. Shows a total lack of understanding of this law. Premiums will not be based on ones income. Premiums are based on the amount spent on healthcare. I mean seriously. Also, no where in the law does it say companies have to offer AFFORDABLE coverage, and the employer IS required to pay a portion of it under ERISA law. Come one man, get an education before typing stupidity.
You are right about one thing, there are policies out ther for $55 a month, but Obamacare says those policies do not qualify.
The root of this entire problem:
Dirp Wrote:
All you neocons are right, if people can't afford to get their own health insurance, just let them DIE, right?
Isn't that the Republican way, if you aren't rich, you should just DIE?
This is the very core of what is wrong. This is what may very well succeed in tearing the greatest country in the world apart. Yes Dirp, right at %50 of the country thinks that if you dont have enough $$, you shouldnt be allowed to live. Through this election process, which was extremely volatile in case you didnt know, many terrible things have been said on both sides. Your opinion which is shared by others is among the most ignorant ways of thinking that one can obtain. It is a true reflection of what the media voices like Ed Schultz spew out and people just like you gobble up. Youre a robot. You have no view of your own, youve simply subscribed to a thought process pre-determined for you because you are incapable of forming a thought of your own by simply viewing whats going on around you. Dont think im just bashing msnbc, its fox also. I guess my question is this: Are our lives so empty that weve turned to reality tv to fill that void? I own a business and I know what the current obamacare is going to do and how it is going to limit what I do. Obamacare may be edited, I dont know. It may end up working, again I dont know but as of now were ALL in trouble. Not solely because of whose in office, but because we allowed the media to elect them.
How telling is it that when people defend ObamaCare it is the same two or three talking points that were used to pass it. People simply do not know what is headed their way, and euphoria is going to quickly be replaced by reality. Congress didn't exempt themselves for no good reason, some of them actually knew what was in the bill. But no sense debating, it is the law. Everyone will soon find out how wrong they were for defending this bill. The word of day for that awakening will be enjoy.
wiseguy,
It isn't the US Taxpayer. It's the employers and employees who participate in health insurance. Their premiums increase as the cost of health care increases. That's how it works. Hospital gets stiffed for a big bill. The cost of every medical service everywhere increases to compensate for that loss. As the cost increases, more bills don't get paid. So the cost increases faster.
This is why folk such as me aren't common. I have to pay for my insurance out of pocket for myself and my family. It costs me $1,700 a month, a lot more than my mortgage.
The nightmare scenario is that folk such as me eventually stop being able to afford insurance. So what would we do when we get sick? Go to the hospital, not pay the bill. Then health insurance becomes unaffordable for employers so they drop it (already starting.) The employees can't pay for it on their own, they could barely do it when the employer was picking up part of the tab. So what happens when they get sick? They go to the hospital and not pay the bill. The entire system collapses.
@Laura. I do wonder about that for people working retail, in restaurants. I read that Darden Is looking at this possibility. That means not only will they loose pay but their healthcare as well. I do not understand how no one thought this could happen.
I don't know you and I don't intend to be mean, but good Lord Lulu you can't be that naive? Do you really think people working at restaurants and in retail actually have had health insurance in the last 30 years? It really never ceases to amaze me how ignorant of the facts people truly are.
They aren't looking at it they are doing it! So are many other companies and Boeing just announced they would be laying off several hundred people by Jan.
@goodtimes.....try reading a little. There have been several articles in WaPo and WSJ and Darden was the example. Every full time person I know who works in large chains has insurance. You are the very ignorant one here.
There are several companies dealing in retail that have in the past provided health insurance to their employees. Back in the 90's I worked part time at an auto parts store and they paid my health insurance. I also worked in the office and sales at a tire store and they paid for my insurance. Back then I didn't even have to pay a portion myself.
Thank the media, the morons that didn't read it and passed it and the idiots that trust the government to not screw you over.
Vivian-379841, would you please site your source about Boeing laying off people, because I know people who work there and I have not heard anything about it.
It's been all over the national news since yesterday. There will be many more layoffs to come due to Obamacare! Enjoy!
MrsMartinez: you really need to read, Boeing is making the cuts to be more competitive. Obamacare has NOTHING to do with the cuts.
I imagine if your local gas station fired and employee for stealing, you would blame that on Obamacare too.
Romney was a good man you people blew it big time.
hey dirp, please check the first thread, theres something I posted that you should probably read. I dont know if youre some hateful guy that lives in your moms basement or you get paid to do this but either way, Ive been following your posts and responded to one of your first. It is people like yourself that are cutting the fabric of what should bring this country together. You should be ashamed of yourself.
There sure are a lot of extreme right people that are just pissed off and mad as hell that the wussy's on the left won! Please stop your rants. Please think about what is the right path to walk. The "extreme right" is where the GOP is right now. The people that benefit from this type of governorship is smaller in this Capitalistic country than if the GOP was less right.
Deal with your problem, people. Shut up and deal with it.
I voted for a straight Dem ticket. And unless the GOP changes, the House will be a democratic majority again in 2014! And when Clinton is the President in 2016, I frankly, will be on top of a very prosperous economy despite the rants of a extreme right GOP.
The only thing that is holding up this economy now, is the House GOP. If we can balance the budget and pass new tax reform, cutting the loopholes out for the rich, businesses will be able to plan and all of us will start thriving again. Every business needs to know what their expenses are going to be for the next few years so they can plan. That is all they need.
The GOP told lie after lie after lie. We the people knew what they were doing and yet you GOP followers continue to follow their lie. Wake up. Deal with it!
Simple question...Did you lose? And it wasn't even close.
The republican party's main goal ever since they took control of the House in 2010 was to insure that Obama was a one term president. Now that they have failed at that I would hope, but don't count on it, that finally all three branches of government can work together and start working on the problems that face this country.
You seem to have forgotten that Obama and the Dem's had a supermajority for the first two years and we got Obamacare as a result...good luck paying for this mess in the years to come.
We get the government we deserve. So hold on all you Obama phone people you will be the next to be taxed. They can't give you a free ride forever...
Also, remember who it was that has kept a budget from being voted on...Harry Reid in the Senate. Repubs had nothing to do with that not being accomplished...last time we had a budget it was 2009.
DanBowen
They had a super majority for only 5 months out of that 2 years when they could prevent a filibuster.
Oh, so what, the Republicans are just supposed to follow the ridiculous costly agenda of Obama and the liberals just because Obama was barely elected? Don't give me that electoral vote crap. A great majority of the states he lost and he lost the popular vote, which means more than half Americans are not on board with this administration. So, just because he is in the office doesn't mean that members of Congress have to forget the will of THEIR constituents to do appease the liberal agenda. But hey, you idiots keep voting like that. Sooner or later it will sink in. I have to give Obama and the liberals credit though, they really know how to brain wash the fresh voters, who haven't really been affected by the "real world" yet, to believe Democrats good, Republicans bad. I bet you half the people who voted for Obama couldn't even tell you what he stands for. He's a rock star, pure and simple. But we don't need a rock star president, we need a business leader.
Seems the republican party and their followers cannot do as they tell the others to do. They want the democratic party to be accountable for thier actions, but refuse to acknowledge thier own actions. Since 2010 the republican has been the party of obstruction, hence almost nothing has gotten done. With the republicans not willing to compromise, our credit rating was down graded, and if they don't give some ground, it just might happen again.
DanBowen and you seem to forget that's a lie a myth that no matter how many times you say it it will NEVER BE TRUE. The dmeocarts never had a supermajority in the senate.
Libermann is not a democart . At no time did democarts have 60 votes
mfontmt- Where did you get your information? Obama won the popular vote by 3 million votes. Know who did win the popular vote though? Al Gore.
And yeah, I'll vote for the guy who spends to get our economy chugging, THEN works on the deficit
David Nelson-
Your rationaliztion amazes me. You are saying the Republicans are the only ones dragging their feet and will not compromise. Does it not stand to reason that the Dems hold the same blame? What am I missing? Neither side has budged, right? Right.
In kansas because they are during the last debt deal the democrats went farther then the GOP and put more on the table, then at the last minute the GOP changed there minds. So the auto cuts kicked in for domestic and defence spending, And here the GOP are trying to charge the rules again to protect there defence spending while the domestic cut already happened.
The Boehner knows how important it is to have insurance. He knows how to struggle, being a Janitor in the past. He has to appease all those rich GOP. All those GOP want is to keep all those ass Insurance company happy. They're the ones that are big contributors to their re-election. So gotta keep them happy, while we struggle to pay for the over price drugs in order to survive. When these rich bastards retire they are set for life with free medical even though they are all rich. So who is kidding who? We the middle class are the losers, but hopefully we have someone like Obama who will fight for us "The trodden " !!! So really time2bsmart, you're really not 2 smart!!! So please shut up....
neoaty
did it ever occur to you that the repubs were just really pissed that we were in a debt crisis to begin with? Why were we, and why ARE we still in a debt crisis? Rediculous spending, among other things. Repubs want a balanced/lower budget. Some things you should stand on priciple for.
From mfontmt post 7.5 '..........just because Obama was barely elected? Don't give me that electoral vote crap. A great majority of the states he lost and he lost the popular vote, which means more than half Americans are not on board with this administration.'
mfontmt.......what was popular vote tally? You say Obama had less than 50% of the popular vote, I'd like to see your source of information on that point. How many states did Obama carry? How many states are there? What is the definition of majority?
I realize you're probably not a serious poster, but I needed to ask these questions just in case someone actually believed your 'totally inaccurate statements'.
In Kansas No because the GOP demanded a debt deal to begin with when the Democrats wanted a straight limit increase and a separate debt deal bill so it could get the time it needed instead of having dead line, and the GOP are mostly responsible for the current debt.
If they are angry enough to fail are there job they only have themselves to blame anyway.
244 out of the 435 House of Representatives are considered millionaires. I wonder why they don't want to raise taxes on the wealthiest of Americans? hmmmmm
I have said all along that the Republicans won't repeal Obamacare even if they win the presidency. It's their program. Just a rewrite of their plan of 1993. There are 30 million people for insurance companies to feed on and these companies won't give up on that easily.
I'm glad Obama won, but what this country needs is real health care reform, which means a single payer system.
I agree,, we need to stop all this bickering,, the Insurance company's have made health care a joke, just look at it, we spend more for less than most any one,,the insurance company's and big business have had thier way with us for to many years
ONE PAYOR SYSTEM
I must say it is very encouraging what Boehner has been saying - lots of talks of compromise and leaving the old obstructionism behind. Very glad to hear.
As a liberal/libertarian - I say welcome to the GOP - lets get some crap done.
The problem with a single payer system it tell's doctor take it or leave it. Most will just leave it and we will not have enough doctors to go around. Then you have rationed healthcare. Example, In England a 5 year old girl died becuase she didn't get vaccinated. Why? because she not in a high risk group. So now she is dead. That will happen here, but I doubt the media will let it out. The only ones that want this single payer are the people that don't have insurance. They want the government to give them everything. Well, the river is going to dry up one day and that will be it. No money and everyone will have nothing.
Oh the single payer system is a "great idea" Greg. I work for a healh insurance carrier that sells commercial (private employer-sponsored health care) and has a Medicaid line of business which is a majority of our business. For you and others that don't know-Medicaid is state-government sponsored insurance for low income people. Medicaid is funded by taxpayers whether they want to pay for it or not. So, what happens is that Medicaid pays low rates to the doctors. The good doctors won't contract with us because they don't want to accept the low Medicaid reimbursements. It is simple economics, for the most part the incompetenent doctors contract with Medicaid because they can't get patients other than the ones who come to them through Medicaid. The competent, skilled doctors only take private insurance where they will be reimbursed at a higher rate. It's common sense. The people on Medicaid (which is a micro-cosm of what a single payer system would be) only have access to incompetent doctors. Also, Medicaid recipients do not get brand medications (the ones you see on the TV commercials) and they have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get MRI's, surgeries, electric wheelchairs, etc. approved. It is a very difficult process for the members.
Medicaid and single payor systems lead to a shortage of good doctors. The good ones will only take private insurance or they leave and go to other fields. Also, there is rationing of treatments. In a single payer-system, you will be denied treatments of organ transplants, cancer treatments, hip and knee replacments or if you are lucky enough to have them approved, you will wait a very long time for the treatment. You will suffer and you may die in the process of waiting. I know-I work in the industry. Medicare-for the seniors is the same the thing. The seniors are already getting treatments denied.
I work across the border from Canada and our insurance members who live in Canada want to be on our private insurance if their companies are here in the US because they are denied major services or made to wait months and/or years for them with their single payer system in their own country. It amazes me that people like you don't get this. All the Utopia of everone getting "free" health care sounds nice, but it isn't reality.
Dandy416 listen more Boehner "deal" is a net zero increase in revenue he will give up "loopholes" if obama cuts taxes.
That's not compromise thats trickery
Why don't you liberals just say it out loud....MARX IS MY HERO. Really. Everyone with an ounce of sense knows you all believe that. You all "HOPE" to "CHANGE" this country into a Marxist "To those according to their need, from those according to their ability to pay" state.
There are already plenty of those out there. Why ruin this country too with that crap? Just move there. Greece is beautiful. So is Spain. France I hear has great food. They all subscribe to that collectivist garbage.
God the hyperbole from the far right in this stories comments is so thick you can cut it.
You are blaming insurance companies??? Get REAL. Blame Health Care (hospitals)!!! Why do you think insurance costs so much? Because the places they pay CHARGE so much! Think about it. . . Then write something factual.
Insurance cost so much because they have a MUCH higher overhead(slash executive pay), and they demand a set percentage in profit incresses each and every year.
My utililty companies demand that their share holders make a profit as well, so they are raising our rates. . . .Even though the cost of natural gas has been at record lows. How much sense does that make?
It is not unreasonable for insurance companies to "make a pofit". Here's what's unreasonable: My wife had her appendix taken out 2 months ago. 35 minute surgery. Went home 2 hours later. Guess what we were charged. $3k? $5k? $7k??? No. Get this. . . . $17,450!!!!! She even drove herself to the hospital. No ambulnce in that bill. I don't blame that on insurance. I blame that on $20 cotton balls and $200 syringes.
The ACA is just the first step to getting the cost of health care under control. Part of what it does is allows for the control of one of the major costs, Medicare, to be better controlled through the 15 member panel.
The medical community and insurance industry liked the idea of having an extra 30 million insured customers. What they don't like are the brakes put on the gravy train they have been riding for the last 100 years with the requirements of what must be covered and the minimum amount going to cover health care (80%.)
If employers don't like the laws in the US, requiring employees be treated like free men, move to the third world where you can still have slave labor.
American Girl, I guess you're comfortable with the govt dictating how many full-time, part-time, half-time and contract employees a company will be allowed to have- is that right?
You're not so American after all !!!!
in Kansas, the reason that 35min surgery was 17thousand was because of the thousands of people who are treated for free. The hospital has to make up for all that loss money giving free medical care so you,and I and others like us have to make up the loss. Don't fret it'll get worse.
Its about time this dumbass joins the group. They never would have repealed it anyway.
Honestly - if Boehner is willing to put the ridiculous obstructionism of the last 4 years behind us - I say good for him! Lets move forward and get this country straightened out.
I love reading genius commments like-Let's move foreward and get this country straightened out. Really? What's your brilliant plan?
Dandy-
If moving forward means going bankrupt. . . NO thank you.
My next big day is when the rich entitlements run out. Jan 1st 2013. Boehner should have tried to get along when the president wanted to talk about their issues on the golf course. Boehner looked more like a hostage. Not interested. Obama said he did'nt let them expire two years ago because that was the only way they would extend enemployment benefits for millions of people who's benefits would run out just before christmas. Ok Mr. president I know you probly know best even thou my wages had went from 70,000. pre-bush, to 8,500.00. I made it, but whatever, mr president. I'm not interested in any begging or pleading from the greedy soul-sucking rich republicans. It's time for them to start kickin in!!!
Republicans never actually opposed this law... it's written in perfect crony-capitalist republicrat style... Tax the people, then give the money directly to a large corporation and allow the elites to profit off of the rest of us. It's textbook capitalism... the direct opposite of the "socialist" title with which they've tagged it.
Don't forget that the "individual mandate" part of the law, which Republicans seem to oppose the most, is actually a long-time Republican idea! In fact it was Gingrich's counter-plan for "Clintoncare" back in the 90s.
Obama will ruin the USA in the next four years ,as he did the last four years. As I look back the last 76 years ago the Liberals started SS then in 1964 the Medcare and now in 2013 the healthcare . We the people of the great Nation need to have a Christian movement for 2016.
In the warped thinking of mindless Obama followers and die hard Democrats:
obstructionist = anyone that disagrees with them; anyone who will not compromise their beliefs in order to make Democrats happy; not willing to go along with something with which you are not comfortable or feel is wrong.
Liberals have this terrible habit of name-calling. Racist, bigot, homophobe, flat-earthers- now obstructionist.
Odd that people who supposedly believe it's wrong to marginalize and shame people for being different from oneself is constantly at it.
The hypocrisy and hatred. Your attempts to shame and humiliate your opponents (because your emotional arguments tend to void of rationale) are getting tired.
If being obstructionist means that we're not going to let liberals bully and shame people into thinking like you or being like you, than I and many others wear the obstructionist badge proudly.
Got another name you want to call?!
As a Christian who voted for Obama, I can tell you all of those things you just listed are perfectly in line with the teachings of Jesus. Try actually reading the Gospel sometime.
As for you, Oy, you don't get to treat people like dirt and then turn around and play victim. This isn't the third grade. We are not hypocrites for calling you out out your intolerance.
Lyaso, who treated who like dirt? You're throwing up a straw man and irrational, emotional arguments.
Take a deep breath, collect your thoughts and get back when you have something adult and rational to say.
Holdenbeach - I think we had the Christian movement on November 6th 2012! Jesus was the very first Socialist. He fed the hungry and healed the sick. "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I love you." John 15:12

Maybe if the republicans start compromising we can get something done and start solving some of our problems.
I am very encouraged by what Boehner has been saying these past couple days. A compromising, bi-partisan government is the best kind of government.
If it's real compromise I will be happy to support it, but if it's what Boehner is saying now cut taxes even more and we will give up a few loopholes createing a negative/net zero revenue deal . Then Boehner can go @!$%# himself
Boehner's state of Ohio was the one that put Obama over 270 electoral votes. The majority has spoken and finally Boehner is listening. He can listen to the voters and keep his job or he can listen to Grover Norquist and lose his job in two years or the Speakership in less than that. What goes around comes around. It sounds like he got 2% of what he wanted and he's not very happy.
I'll believe what he says when he actually follows through, though.
Maybe if the Democrats start compromising we can get something done and start solving some of our problems.
oy-vay the Democrats have been compromising, getting everything you want is not a compromise something the right-wing needs to learn.
TERRY:
YOU are DELUSIONAL and have a retention span of a match! The FIRST TWO years of Obama's rule waqs with a lock on both houses! ALL you bastards could do was shove a TAX LADENED health Care bill down our throats thru illegal moves i n congress.
IF you really cared, and YOUR actions show YOU DON'T, you and your microbes would have worked to allow for PERMANENT JOB CREATIONS and the environment to allow it to thrive!!! IT is IMPOSSIBLE to purchase your assinine health care when SOMEONE DOESN'T HAVE A JOB!! ...dumb ass!
neotag- kindly LIST those compromises that demonstrate your point.
Its ok Eric, put down the coffee, turn off the bold, back away from the keyboard. Obamacare is the law of the land and you will find that within two years (when it is fully implemented) it actually does reduce the deficit and does reduce the cost of health care.
Yes, there will be some scummy employers who will drop coverage, simply out of hating the black man in the White House. You can't help all the haters.
Most will be rational and discover that they can actually save money and have happier employees by offering affordable health care coverage. The other thing they will find is that their workers comp. claims will be reduced because the uninsured will use their own insurance now, rather than finding inventive ways to be injured at work.
You fell for that old saw that Obama cares about you?
Key Dems knew that this was a great way to transparently "buy" voters who increasingly became dependent on government handouts. Boy were you suckers!
Dude the penalty starts at $600 AND you pay penalty and interest for every month it's unpaid. It's not the small potatoes you believe it to be.
Oy-vay.. once again as I strongly suggested read it. The penalty starts at $600 for mid level businesses..which is commesurate with the $95 for a middle income earner. I BEG, RESEARCH it find out about it, don't just eavesdrop on adults talking then repeat..it is you duty to do this.
Now Hear This! Now Hear This! This is a progressive country the majority have spoken. Do not have to get on board because I enjoy hearing you whin and cry about the debt, Obamacare, government, welfare, housing and food stamps.
The majority of people who needs government help is WHITE so get over it.
The conservative entertainment have you thinking African Americans and Latinos SUCK up all the countries money when enfact corporate welfare take home Trillions of dollars.
You the conservative GOP have been caught in a nitch lie to separate you from your money. Just like a vulture capitalist. You have just been Mitt Romnied
Unfortunately I don't see how the numbers add up...my healthcare insurance is up nearly 20% since Obama's plan became law...you can dream about "free" healthcare all you want, but somebody has to pay for this debacle.
It is because they are getting you good now before it kicks in...they looked you in the face and said "It's because of Obamacare"......if you are telling the truth and not just lying like your candidate did...does not get you anywhere anymore..your party is dead...just join in...
The only plans offered this year by my husbands company are high deductible plans. You can participate in an HSA which is the only thing making it OK. The company with over 100,000 employees cited ACHA as their reason.
The election is over bigdog and attacking me means nothing. Moreover I'm not a republican and accusing me of lying is ignorant and insulting. But hey, let's all come together right? I actually pay for my insurance out of pocket in California and if you do a little research before you shoot your mouth off you'll realize I'm far from the only person hit like this. Additionally, the stated reason in the paperwork sent to me for the increase was highlighted as having to cover "kids" up to 26 as well as other pre-existing conditions that are law under Obamacare. I'm pretty confident that the administration would have filed a legal complaint against blue cross in California had this been a partisan 'lie'. But live your dream.
Bend over America here it comes..
lulu98, my plan is exactly that, but a personal HSA for my family. Its essentially a plan to cover catastrophic medical but everything is out of pocket to the caps.
It takes an idiot to be a called one..................
The federal Gov,t needs to cut spending and lower taxes but Obama will not bend over to do so.
My health insurance has gone up from $305 a month to $484 month since we got Obamacare. Any of you good liberals out there want to pay for it. I doubt it!
we do not have Obama Care yet moron, it starts in 2014
We have Obamacare NOW. That's why ADULTS can be on their mommy's and daddy's health insurance plan now instead of 2014. Moron!!!!
you are the moron, the part of children to be on mommies insurance is just a small first part, the major part starts in 2014. learn how to read and read the policies
However small, it is a part. YOU said it's not enacted yet- so you're wrong
DanBowen: that's funny, in the 20 years I have been in charge of the annual renewal of health insurance, I have never seen increases of less than 15% per year.
Then, an amazing thing happened last year, the ACA kicked in, requiring 80% of premiums go to health care costs and the increase was only 7% last year.
When the mandate kicks in and all of the single people not currently on the insurance join, the group coverage cost will actually go down (or so our insurance agent says.)
Insurance has never gone down, and it usually goes up. YOUR policy cost may be due to your (and your group) experience and age, both of which likely will increase until the mandate kicks in and all the healthy, young, "immortals" have to get insurance.
oy-vay -- When small-minded people know they're losing an argument, they ignore the bigger picture and focus on semantics.
Healthcare has always been going up. And for about a decade we have been asking for help. So now we have it, and everyone is mad.
Thank God! The RNC has seen the light..alleluja! Where do I go and get my healthcare at? I want to sign up today!
And the winner is: AARP
SUCKERS! AARP scheduled to profit $2.8 billion dollars over 10 yrs from Obamacare.
Who does AARP back politically? Obama Who would of thunk it? You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. To be fair, Bush was just as bad.
Ironically the Libs were afraid of Healthcare voucher system, not even knowing what is about. Libs saw it as bad because that's what they were told to believe.
Yet the Libs support the biggest voucher system in this country......................food stamps, it's a VOUCHER. hypocrites!
Bitter is the new Republican Red, which surprises me about as much as Obama winning by a wide margin.
Obamacare was the only way I received treatment for cancer, and the only way I was able to return to work. Oh yeah, I forgot, according to Republicans I was supposed to crawl off into a corner and die so I would bother them. Wake up you foolish idiots – it is NOT a free healthcare plan!
Welcome to Communism.
Ron White
You have no idea what communism is. Parrot more fox news please. You people are now in the minority. You will be relegated like antiques to history.
Well, Dandy, you're right. People like us who believe in earning what you get instead of asking everyone else to give it to us while we sit on the couch are in the minority.
All you lazy ass Marxists will be crying louder than they are in Greece when we all decide to just stop supporting you all with our production and your "Free" healthcare and foodstamps, and Section 8 housing all goes away when there is no more money to pay for it.
And I don't watch Fox News. But I do know a rat when I see one and you and the rest of the class warfare specialists are definitely vermin.
Dandy-
"leveling the playing field", which is what Obama PREACHES, is, in fact, communism.
Forcing millionares to pay the same percentage of their income (regardless if it is obtained through investments or actually working for it) as I do is not communism. You alarmists are hilarious.
Investment income is derived from employment income that was saved and invested to earn interest. It's double taxation, at the very least.
If so many Americans spent more money saving and investing rather than buying so many unnecessary niceties, more people would understand how unfair it is to have the govt tax their hard-earned dollars over, and over and over again.
Besides, I wonder if folks will be singing that tune when they have to pay all these new taxes when they liquidate their "investments" like when selling their home or taking interest on CDs, 401k's, savings accounts or money markets. Interest or profits from any of these are investment income.
Careful what you wish for!
oy-vay: so, If I sell you something, you pay me with dollars that you "earned." So, I should not be taxed on that, since you have already paid tax on that money.
If I sell my labor, I should not be taxed on what you pay me, as you are paying me with dollars that have already been taxed. It is the same same with dividends, interest and capital gains. You sell me the right to use your money and I pay you with either a fixed amount (interest) or a promise of a future amount over time (interest or dividends) or a greater amount in the future (capital gains.)
Under your theory, there would never be any taxes, because once the first tax of any type was paid, any second tax would not be allowed.
Well, I can see you are a firm believer in the Chaos theory of government (there should be no taxes and no government) since your arguments are so worthless.
Try to grow up and join the 21st century in a civilized society.
Apples and oranges! Don't you know the difference between sales tax and income tax?
Under my theory? I never proposed that- you did.
I'm focused on INCOME TAXES not sales taxes, not property taxes.
Straight now?
How is it communism?
so then oy - we will take a hypothetical case - you have $1000 and invest it in common stock. The stock costs $50 so you have 20 shares. The dividends pay, say, 50 cents per share ($10) which is reinvested into more shares (.2 share). the $10 is deferred. after 1 year with quarterly dividends you have a little more than .8 shares (it's a simple compound interest problem which I'm not going to work out - I probably have it on a hand-held calculator, but the exact numbers aren't terrible important)
At any rate after 10 years (making the calculation simple) you have approximately 30 shares and decide to sell. 30 X 50 = 1500 less the 1000 initial investment leaves $500 which is treated as capital gains and subject to a maximum tax of 15% or $75 leaving you with $425. That 425 is SEPARATE from your income tax - so explain to me HOW YOU CAN CLAIM DOUBLE TAXATION? (note that I made it VERY simple - perhaps oversimplified - just in case you don't understand TAXES)
I am 36 years old and have worked every single day since I was 12 so spare me your ridiculous "I work and you dont" garbage. From making pizza's and working on farms in high school to slinging kegs at beer distributors paying for college to being a power plant engineer. What have you done?
Whats it feel like to be outworked by a lazy liberal eh?
We have rejected racial hatred = 332 to 206
He is right about two things. 1) It is the law of the land, and 2) it is not perfect. Everybody knew going in that HCR was incomplete and far from perfect, and that there would have to be additions and changes and kinks to work out down the road. That is true of every major reform. Obama is the first to admit that. But the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") lays the foundation and gets the ball rolling.
It will be nice if Republicans finally agree to that are willing to seriously sit down and work out the kinks together, instead of just playing obstructionists like the last 4 years.
the good thing is that all of the republicans out there can thank '' GOV. ROMNEY '' for OBAMACARE , LOL !!!
Cameron,
That is why you have amendments and debates before a bill is passed. If you remember this one was passed in the middle of the night and has already had two parts of its supposed funding removed. First there was the disaster with the 1099's which both parties removed because it would have cost everybody thousands in time and paperwork. That part was anybody you spend $600 with in a year has to give you a 1099. So if you go to the same gas station you have to get one, or the same restaurateur.
e part called CLASS where they expected the younger workers to start putting money away for long term health care. This was supposed to fund the short term but nobody signed up and it was removed.
Hard to put your money away when you're saving up for the new iPhone or a home it took your parents 10 years to save for.
My heart breaks at how unaware some of us are about finance and economics ...
Oh no - Don't try to get Republicans in to try and "fix" ObamaCare. Dems made that bed - time for them to lie in it. It's a horrific piece of legislation and it's already front loaded with all the goodies. It's not even paid for yet. And when you write that check to that insurance company or pay that "fine" err "tax" to Uncle Sam if you don't have insurance make sure you remember who brought this monstrosity to you. Steer clear Republicans of that "fix it" trap.
Mr Boner throwing a bone to the president-- "OK we wont fight you on this anymore but we expect something in return." Problem with this for the Republicans is the SCOTUS ruled in favor of it so of course its law.
And we are FU*KED .
Funny. I said the same thing when Monkey-boy was elected (Dubya). Look what we got - 2 worthless wars and a debt that will take 15 years to get out of from these unpaid wars and letting Wall Street pillage the financial world.
So I'm sure you find it really funny that Obama tripled that debt that you were going to pay off in 15 years.
Would you people have actually been happier had President Bush said "Gee, that wasn't nice; please don't do it again." when America was attacked?
We weren't attacked by Iraq - Bush admitted this. There were no WMD's. If Bush would have kept his eye on the ball, perhaps President Obama would not have had to finish the job for him - for a lot less lives and money! Read some history, this was not the first time a Republican administration created the conditions that led to a bank bailout.
Actually Sal, history shows that this bank mess was originated during the Clinton administration. When we get right down to it, the Cole was bombed while Clinton was in office also. Why didn't he nail Bin Laben when he had more than enough chances?
I had thought "it's Bush's fault" was the mantra of Obama. Apparently it's the mantra of liberals in general.
Saddam Hussein WAS a weapon of mass destruction and I'm glad that he no longer breathes.
Reba-
I like your music, but aside from that, you are forgetting that Obama has added a lot more to the debt on top of Bush's, so pull your head out of the clouds.
What's with liberals and the name-calling?! If a conservative or a Republican were to call names they didn't think highly of, you guys would fly off the handle, call a press conference, conjure up some word of Greco-Roman etymology and declare war.
Ann Coulter called Obama a retard and libs flipped. Yet these same libs call conservatives awful names and think nothing of it.
Hypocrites !!!
Im glad you feel glee at the fact that people like you sent thousands of our soldiers to their graves. Ironically you likely arent in the military and have no issues to putting others lives at risk.
If we are F*U*C***Ked don't go to the doctor or emergency room for treatment. And tell your son or daugher of the age of 18 to get off your medical plan because that's Obamacare stupid.
Plus the CBO stated Obamacare would save Americans money and taxing the rich would not hurt the economy.
You can try and spit more lies but the American people can read and do research even if you refuse to. This is the reason we voted overwhelmingly for President Obama. 332 to 206 that's and azz kicking if i do say so myself.
So your hatred and racism and lie will not work.
The internet is a powerful weapon against lies, racism and hatred.
READ THE Affordable Health Care ACT for yourself.

HEE HEE HEE he said Bohner.
Healthcare in this country should be a right. Education for K-12 should be a privilege. I find it HARD to believe that people would be so deadest against healthcare for all. We that have a pre-existing illness have had to endure insurance companies' literally hanging up on you if you attempt to buy your own insurance and disclose this information.
Healthcare - is life or death. Education - the parents should pay for their children from day one through college. It is not life or death. Parents chose to have children. They should be required to pay for them and not burden those of us with no children.
I'm glad to pay for education.
What I don't like to pay for is raising other people's kids.
Imagine how much education we could pay for if we weren't coughing up for walfare babies.
The 768 billion taken from Medicare is GOING to Obamacare!!! GET IT! Medicare for ALL OF US!!! Something wrong with that???? All of our Medicare taxes will FUND OBAMACARE!!! A Healthier population produces more goods to Improve the Economy. Romneys suggestion that if you need a Dr, go to an Emergency room is tootaally insane!!!!!! Go see yiour family Dr, cost + or - 150.00...Go to the Emergency room, cost $1500.00 Very smart! Emergency rooms will slow down by 50 to 60 %. Now that's savings!!!!!!!!!!
Reba - "Parents chose to have children. They should be required to pay for them and not burden those of us with no children."
You believe that the parents should pay for their kids but the health insurance is somehow the governments responsibility? You contradict yourself. It is fully on the parents to support their kids. That includes health insurance.
Health insurance is not a right and should not be. If you want health insurance you work for it. You are creating a mentality that the government will provide everything for people. Whats next? People expecting cars paid for by the 53% of the people that pay taxes.
Hate to break the news but rights are conferred by the Constitution, not some bright idea.
It's becoming apparent that we are on the road to lawlessness and the way is paved with supposedly good intentions.
As far as k-12 education. Consider the taxes that you pay to support this, payback for the free education that you received as a child. The more you got out of it, the more successful you became and the more taxes you'll pay over your adult years. To me, this is one of the fairest taxes imaginable.
A more cynical argument can also be made. Educating children leads to a more productive society. Paying to extend the life of a someone with a serious illness and no means to pay for his/her care is a drain on society.
There's no such thing as free. My parents paid tax AND sent us to private school for many years.
When will you libs EVER learn?! Repeat after me: NOTHING IS FREE. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH.
oy-vay.... !
This is a huge decision we will be forced to make over the next decade. Do we choose to fund our future by pouring more money into education of our youth, or do we devote more resources to medicare and social security which results in little or no benefit to our nation's future. Clearly the wise choice is to invest in the children, but then again children do not vote.
Repeat after me Steve: MONEY DOESN'T SOLVE EDUCATION PROBLEMS.
We spend more money per child than the top education countries combined yet we are not ranked in the top 5.
When I went to school, we had little, if any, technology other than overheads and slides. We learned MORE information in greater detail than these kids are taught now. Tons of money were not involved.
EFFECTIVE TEACHING/LEARNING is the issue. Money is not our problem.
Invest if you must, but do so wisely and when it's actually called for.
Oy-vay: I hate to break it to you, but the Constitution does not grant any rights, it simply prevents the Federal and State governments from removing certain rights from the people, who have all of the rights.
BTW, now that "Corporations are people, my friend" does that mean that the corporations have all the rights ? .... just askin' :)
Dirp, you're obviously convinced that I'm too stupid to know anything about this pesky Constitutional passage called the Bill of Rights.
Aren't you late for a play date, dear little one! LOL
Barack Obama unfortunately gets four more
years in office after what should have been a total loss to Mitt Romney. Obama is now fired up to bring communism to
the Divided States of America; a country he did not live in as a kid so does
not care about....
Propelled by illegal voter fraud in Ohio,
Wisconsin
and Iowa
–Obama’s plan assures slow pace of recovery and Obama’s management of it, but
Dems cared about sex issues for women more than the central issues.
Emerging early in the hours on Wednesday in
Chicago to the tune of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours”
the Brock Suckers struck an upbeat note
about the challenges that lie ahead during a second term; complete
obstructionism.
President Obama addressed an exuberant
crowd, saying he's "never been more hopeful about socializing America in
the image of mother Russia" and suggesting the country is not as divided
as its politics might suggest because he does not recognize the other 50% of
the DSA (Divided States of America).
“A decade of war is ending. A long campaign
is now over. And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you if
you were a dem and said fu if you were a conservative, I have learned from you,
and you have made me a better president because now I am really going to stick
it,” Obama said. “With your stories and your struggles, I return to the White
House more determined to enslave and control people and more inspired than ever
about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead; especially
telling those lies.”
But there were strong indications that the
first two years of Obama’s second term would resemble the final two years of
his first term – because he is a Jack Donkey.
As Obama stold a second term, House Speaker
John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Republicans’ retention of their House majority meant
“the American people have also made clear that there is NO mandate for raising
tax rates.”
My God Casper, I'm glad you're just a friendly ghost instead of an American voter. We have grown well beyond your archaic designs. Women have the vote now. Slavery and racial segregation are both outlawed. Prohibition is but a distant memory. Abortion is no longer done in back alleys with coat-hangers.
The year 2000 saw our civilization enter a new and much more modern era. We no longer cling to a simpler era of 60 years long ago past and forever gone. We grew from bobby-socks, Ike and American Bandstand to Dancing with the stars, a half-black President and Twitter. There is no going back. We grow up with the kids or we rot like an apple spent lying too long off the tree and on the ground.
This is 2012 rushing to 2013. 1955 is history to us like 1935 was history to our parents. We can relish the good old days like our parents before us but be forced to admit that better days are ahead for our children. Joining them in their future is much better than abandoning them to our past. We need them now more than they need us. It's called growing old. We can no sooner avoid it than our kids could avoid growing up.
As tiny children, we urged them to accept responsibility and maturity into adulthood. As elderly adults, we must accept our place as obsolete caretakers in their new world that we no longer control. They are in charge now. We are merely passengers in the back seat asking far too often if we're there yet . What a pain in the ass we have become. Sit back and enjoy the ride now instead of insisting on being a back-seat driver.
WOW are you GNOPs, Teabaggers, RWNJ's mad because you got your azz kicked by President Obama and what he has done the majority of the people in this country actually want done?
