Victorious Obama 'more determined' in face of challenges

In his acceptance speech,  President Obama promised an electrified crowd in Chicago, Ill., that he would "work with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges" Americans face.

Updated at 4:02 a.m. ET: President Barack Obama won four more years in office on Tuesday, describing his victory over Republican nominee Mitt Romney as a call to action that would help move the U.S. past the difficult times endured during the past four years and promising "the best is yet to come."

Propelled by wins in Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa – states long touted as Obama’s “firewall” insulating him from his GOP challenger – the president won a long-fought election in which the economy, its slow pace of recovery and Obama’s management of it, became the central issue.

Emerging early in the hours on Wednesday in Chicago to the tune of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” the president struck an upbeat note about the challenges that lie ahead during a second term, with which he’ll have to reckon almost immediately in the next few weeks.

President Obama addressed an exuberant crowd, saying he's "never been more hopeful about America" and suggesting the country is not as divided as its politics might suggest.

“A decade of war is ending. A long campaign is now over. And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you, I have learned from you, and you have made me a better president,” Obama said. “With your stories and your struggles, I return to the White House more determined and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead.”

But there were strong indications that the first two years of Obama’s second term would resemble the final two years of his first term – that is with a Republican-held House and nominally Democratic Senate stalemated over major tax and spending issues, as the balance of power in Congress remained unchanged after Election Day.

NBC's Tom Brokaw, David Gregory and Andrea Mitchell weigh in on the Election Day numbers.

The specter of gridlock appeared quickly as Obama prepared to confront the immediate task in addressing the series of automatic tax hikes and spending cuts – the so-called “fiscal cliff” – set to spring into place at the end of this year.

Now that he's won, the six splitting headaches waiting for Obama

As Obama won a second term, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Republicans’ retention of their House majority meant “the American people have also made clear that there is NO mandate for raising tax rates.” And Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was even tougher in his statement, saying, “The voters have not endorsed the failures or excesses of the president’s first term, they have simply given him more time to finish the job they asked him to do together with a Congress that restored balance to Washington after two years of one-party control.”

President Barack Obama gives a victory speech Tuesday after being elected to a second term in the White House.

Obama nodded to the challenges that lay ahead in his Tuesday evening speech, hinting that he wishes to meet with Romney – as the president had done with Arizona Sen. John McCain after the 2008 election – to seek his help in moving past some of the most intractable problems to beguile Washington.

“Tonight, despite all the hardship that we’ve been through, despite all the frustrations of Washington, I have never been more hopeful about our future,” Obama told a boisterous crowd in his adoptive hometown of Chicago.

In addition to the looming fiscal cliff, Obama will also have to confront a reshuffling of his cabinet. Both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner have suggested that they might depart the administration after Obama’s first term, setting up a major remaking of Obama’s inner circle.

Campaigning with Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, voting and election results.

After months of campaigning that saw ad spending alone reach the $1 billion mark, Obama won a second term with much of his 2008 electoral map intact. Romney managed to flip only North Carolina and Indiana, which Obama won four years ago, back to Republicans in 2012; the GOP nominee failed to put into play more traditionally Democratic states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, on which his campaign concentrated its efforts in the closing weeks of the campaign.

The Midwestern troika of Ohio, Iowa and Wisconsin helped insulate the Obama campaign from Romney and preserve Democratic inroads in other states, like Colorado and Virginia

'We have given our all'
After having claimed momentum in the final days of the campaign, the erstwhile GOP nominee emerged in Boston shortly after 1 a.m. ET to offer his concession, a conciliatory speech capping a bid for the presidency for Romney that has spanned the better part of a decade.

"This is a time for great challenges for America, and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation," the former Republican nominee said, joined by his running mate, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan (who won re-election to Congress) and their families.

GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney gives his concession speech Tuesday after President Barack Obama was declared the winner of the 2012 presidential race.

"Like so many of you, Paul and I have left everything on the field. We have given our all to this campaign," Romney said. "I so wish that I had been able to fulfill your hopes to lead this country in a different direction, but the nation chose another leader."

While Romney had campaigned on his own private sector expertise amid a weak economic recovery, improvements in hiring and confidence in the economy allowed Obama to parry his opponent’s criticism.

Exit polls suggested that the economy was, by far and away, the issue at the front of voters’ minds on Election Day. Romney edged Obama nationally by six points among voters who said the economy was their top issue.

Obama outperformed Romney on questions of empathy, and voters nationwide were virtually tied on the more direct question of who would better handle the economy and the budget deficit.

Obama also held a demographic edge over Romney among two key groups of voters. The president bested the former Massachusetts governor by 10 points among women (Romney beat Obama by 8 percent among men). Hispanic or Latino voters also broke heavily for Obama by a 39-point margin.

But despite lingering divisions, the president emphasized points of unity, Wednesday morning, saying the nation “moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has lifted this country from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope, the belief that while each of us will pursue our own individual dreams, we are an American family, and we rise or fall together as one nation and as one people.”

Watch the drama of election night quickly unfold in a three minutes montage of sights and sounds.

“You know, intellectually, I've felt we're going to win this and have felt that for some time,” Romney told reporters

And your so-called "intellect" has decided that 47% of this country doesn't deserve your time. Your so-called "intellect" has shifted positions constantly. Seriously people, if you voted for this shape-shifter GOP moderate, conservative, total tea bagger, which Mitt did you vote for????

With monkeys like you voting its no wonder politicians like Romney even get on the ballot.

The GOP would have had a better chance with Santourum but those voting for Romney are those who are going to try and use Mormonism, their new found religion to try an make believe that they can have more than one spouse either male or female so they can profess theirself king or queen just to get more in their tax returns.

Nothing but whores.

america first - the welfare states are all Republican states. Your side, fueled by the hate you so eloquently exemplify, said that you were more enthused and the true American Democratic side would not turn out to vote. Do you still believe that? I just saw that swing counties in Florida have already had more votes counted for Obama than the final total in those counties in 2008. Don't make any bets tonight, you might lose your shirt.

We have fought the good fight alongside our president. It is still too early to call the winner, but I believe this: the American people are the winners. We proved that with strong voter turnout. I saw it in a man who stood outside for an hour in freezing weather to vote to keep America in the hands of the people. I saw it in an immigrant from the Sudan, a first time voter who was proud and humbled to do his civic duty. I saw it in the 'little people', the ordinary people who refuse to be bought and paid for.

Thank you, President Obama. Thank you.

America is severely broken. With Obama's record over the past four years, it's simply unbelievable to see him re-elected.

The reason for this is the demographics have changed in the US. It is more of an entitlement society now than ever, and that is what Democrats want. Give away record amounts to Welfare recipients, food stamp recipients and even student loan recipients and you will win their votes forever. The Republicans no longer have a chance to win and probably won't for a long long time.

Mitt Romney was highly qualified to get results in the areas of unemployment, spending, and taxes, and it will never happen now. This is nothing short of a national tragedy.

I HATE OBAMA. He lies and lies and lies, and gets by with it. It's unbelievable. His biggest lie recently was about what happened in Benghazi. I saw on the front page header of Investors Business Daily, that when Obama heard about the attacks on the Embassy at 3:00 in the morning he hung up the phone and went back to bed. Trust me, future attacks will probably get much worse as al Qaeda gets stronger.

You can't be serious. We will be at least at $24 trillion in debt by the end of Obama's second term. It will make Greece look like a picnic as China basically will own us.

Healthcare is history as a new group of people will now fall into the entitlement class, and death squads will determine if you get life saving treatment, not you and your doctor.

I knew I'd find all the sore winners and losers right here on First Read, lol!

On CNN, the tone is conciliatory. Republican editorialists congradulating and Democratic editorialists extending their respect.

But on First Read...THE CLOWN SHOW!

Woo Hoo! Congrats to the Dems for winning the Presidency and probably gaining seats in the Senate. Congrats to Republicans for winning the House...

And CONGRATS TO THE INDEPENDENTS FOR PROVING RADICAL VOTES DON'T MATTER!

See! I can be a sore winner too!

Here's my votes for people who need to understand:

President: Obama

Senate: Menendez

House: Karczewski

Well, I lost my House candidate, but the House is still in Republican hands, and that's fine by me. Its pretty blue over here so its not a surprise. I'm just happy no one party controls the entire congress and the Presidency.

Romney was fine as a candidate. Honestly, he might have been re-elected if the country was really believed to be worse off than it was before Obama took office. But despite the vaporhead radical dems telling me I already ride rainbows and the veporhead radical repubs telling me I'll be dying in a vortex of hell tomorrow,...normal people don't believe either one of those things to be true. Hell, Bush got 8 years. Don't see why Obama shouldn't.

Too bad for anyone who can't swallow those pills. But voting issues is always superior to voting a party. Because voting one party makes you a nutjob.

I thought it was a good election from turnout. What, unfortunately will not be so good? We're probably going right over the fiscal cliff. But hey, we chose it, and we want to. LET'S DO IT!

Congrats to Obama,

But the real task will be if he is able to work as a "uniter" and not as a "divider". For his next term to have any meaning he is going to have to understand the concept of compromise. People like Pelosi and Reid should get used to that concept as well. For you see, for as much as he won, HALF the nation thinks that he SHOULDN'T have won. I truly hope he understands that he works for the better of all of us and not his progressive left.

Oh and a special shout out to Mitt Romney and Tommy Thompson and your campaign advisors, you gus did 1 hell of a job, I mean really one hell of a job. My God if there ever were 2 race ripe for the picking and your two clods and associated teams #$%^ed it up to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I never want to hear your names uttered again! Gee do you you think that Benghazi could have been put on Obama's forehead for everyone to see how he lied right to the entire nation about who was behind this. Tommy, you let THE MOST LIBERAL PERSON IN WASHINGTON, beat your sorry a$$ in a senate race. Tammy Balwin does not represent the views of Wisconsin voters, yet you and your team let this Bitsh beat you like a rented mule! Go jump in Lake Michigan, the waters fine.

I'm sorry…what was that you said? Yeah. That's what I thought. You don't seem too vocal about the election results now.

And, yes, I plan on posting this again and again. And then again. And again.

If your username is on this list, it means that you have posted something during this election season that was unnecessarily mean, snide, immature, untrue, unintelligent, uninspired, or it attempted to attack others personally. I'm calling you out now because you lost. And all of that negativity caught up with you. It would be nice if you just admitted it and moved on instead of just going on with your usual stuff. I don't have high hopes for that, though.

In the mean time, why don't you guys take some time and research President Obama's record? Not opinion or analysis. Just facts. And statistics. Real numbers. In a very neutral environment, like say, c-span and/or politico. Clear your mind and seriously start reading.

I also encourage you to watch some of his policy speeches. Not campaign speeches, just ones that he has made in support of efforts such as supporting military families. Before you start watching, have a talk with yourself so that you can watch it without any pre-conceived notions or opinions. Like you've just dropped into America with the ability to vote, but with no information at all about any past or current policies, opinions, and/or politicians.

Afterward, please think about everything you've learned. Then, and this is the big step, won't you please join us?

We're ready to receive you with open arms and open minds. And even open hearts. We'd like to hear what you have to say. We're ready to collaborate, cooperate, and come together. We're ready to not hate.

You can spend the next four years stewing in anger and bad mojo, or you can work with us to get something done.

Personally, I think it's going to be really great. But if it doesn't happen, that's ok, too. Maybe you'll need the time anyway to pull yourselves back together. Or, as many of you have now said as your 'closing comment' in reaction to knowing you've lost, that you can't live in an America that would elect Mr. Obama twice so you all think you'll move somewhere else. A notion to which I say: Have a good trip!

And I look forward to the way it will be in 2016 when, after Mrs. Clinton gets the nomination, you all will be so ready and excited for a female president - not to mention a bi-partisan ticket when she asks General Colin Powell to be her running mate - that it will be the time when you finally do join us.

Or…did you want to start stretching the truth and complaining about her right now?

That's what I thought. You better get to gettin'.

Clinton '16! Even more forward!

A Romney Presidency would have been catastrophic. Look what a mess Obama inherited from Bush Jr. Things have turned around under Obama. SLOWLY, that's true, but things are better overall, and I'm glad Obama gets the chance I feel he deserves to finish what he started.

Which, BTW, is to clean up the mess Dubya left behind.

Though I'm not a big supporter of the president, and think its once again a case of the lesser of two evils because neither party has our best interest at heart, I truly despise republican "ideals" and the blind, ignorant, and treasonous rhetoric that most of them spew and actually believe even though the truth is staring them right in the face! Mitt Romney is one of the filthiest, lying, conniving traitors ever to stand on American soil, period! I just cant imagine what this country would have been like if he were to have been elected! But, as much as it pains me to quote the truly worse president this country has ever had, I find it necessary and very appropriate to say that President Obama can now lay claim to a ""clear mandate to advance democratic/progressive agenda over the next four years."! ~ George W. Bush (slightly edited for party affiliation)

Obama/Biden wins the 2012 election at this exact hour with 274 to 203. This should serve as a wakeup call to the GOP to do some real soul searching for a major reform with their self-serving, self-centered political philosophies. When a Party lies with venom, ranker, anger, vile, bigotry, corporate elitism, and obstructionism, you will lose to the other team and eventually become extinct unless the GOP changes their attitudes about the working class/minorities. We are a Nation of many beautiful colors, and the GOP needs to realize this fact and work for everyone and not just the 2% elite. The Obama/Biden Team has worked long hard battle during the past four years to move our Country forward in spite of the continual obstructionism from the GOP 24/7 against Obama/Democrats. The Republicans have shown no patriotism or respect for the Oval Office with a well-educated Black man leading a Nation in difficult times brought on by the GOP/Bush/Chaney Regime. Republicans have called Obama every name in the book even well before he was elected the first time.

The new policies are here to stay no matter how much The GOP wants to continue their failed OBSTRUCTIONISM. All the lying from Romney/Ryan, GOP, Carl Rove, and the wealthy elite just handed the election to a hard working GOOD TEAM. Most importantly, this election has shown that the WEALTHY CANNOT BUY THE OVAL OFFICE.

Get smart Republicans/GOP and stop your obstructionism, show some respect, and get off your duffs to start working, compromising, and negotiating for the best interest of all people, and not just the 2% elite while saying the hell with the 47%.

As for lying Romney/Ryan, why don't you just OUTSOURCE yourselves and your families to China where your companies already live. Our Country needs to become more united!! The U.S. doesn't need the divided trench like behavior of name calling, lies, and vanity!! It's time to support all of America with respect for all classes of people!! It's time for a more positive image change among the Republicans in Congress, too!!

Then this numbnuts was interviewd on CBS saying that the party of the dead cannot win without the hispanic and women voter, the idiot loser never even mentioned blackvoters so that tells me that blacks still don't mean anything to the LOSERS and that also tells me that the LOSERS will try to make us believe they will change their spots. Rob, You mean like in 2000, when Al Gore garnered 48.4% of the popular vote, compared to 47.9 for George Bush, and yet lost the presidency through the Electoral College, right?

It seemed to me to be an unusually long drawn out campaign and I'm thrilled America stuck with our president. And of course, that's because he stuck with us.

This was one election when we all had each other's back. Particularly us Democrats. We stood as one and worked together very hard to see our president re-elected.

First Read has been my savior this year. People from all over the country, whom I have never met, were tremendous as we all stuck together toward this one goal.

You fool America once shame on you, you fool America twice, we're all screwed.

Most people who voted weren't voting for Romney, they were voting against Obama. A majority of the people saw him for what he was. Personally I believe in the electoral college system, and I still support it. But, not good for America this time. I wonder what he'll do now, now that he no longer has to be held accountable to voters.

Still, I'll wait 'till Ohio is done counting votes.

kaybeetoys - its not democracy at all when an unpopular candidate wins over the one with more votes. its tyranny of the minority.

They haven't counted all the votes on the west coast yet but when they do, Obama's total will beat Romney's.

Did you work for this? I did. I volunteered for Obama for fifteen months. I worked in the heat, in the rain, in the cold, day after day and night after night because I believe.

        Mal,

Perhaps YOU should take stock that this was not even close to a landslide. I see it as an empty victory for Obama. He had better look at the numbers and see that HALF (Yes, I said HALF) of America feel he wasn't the right candidate. Obama had better add compromise to his vocabulary for the next four years if he wants his presidency to have any meaning. I congratulate Obama on the election, but the real results will be in four years from now.

To all the others that are full of themselves with the Obama victory...you might have your highlight tonight, but you still have to live and work the next four years with a VAST majority that don't share your delight at the outcome of this election.

3- Romney did not attack Obama about the Benghazi cover up. This is big folks. If the shoe was on the other foot, and Romney was the incumbent and did the same, the Democrats would have been all over him on Benghazi, just like they were on Nixon on Watergate. Romney blew it on this one, big time. He should have been much more aggressive in the debates on this issue. Instead, he just let it slide.

        The result?- Romney loses.

Why do i see a lot of hatred on these posts.

I voted for Romney because i searched the backgrounds of the Candidates.

I did not like Obama because when he was an organizer, Ayers,Soros, and Axelrod approached him with a proposition to run for Senate and beyond to push the Progressive agenda.

The 99%and 1%, the class warfare, and redistribution of wealth that many of you have posted is part of that agenda and comes directly from the Karl Marx ideology.

Romney is not the corporate raider or vulture that many of you post- if you look at his background, you will find out that he gave away his inheritance and he and Ann lived in a basement of a home using cardboard boxes as furniture and a ironing board as a dining table.

Romney did not want hand outs and determined he was going to make something of himself on his own and he did.

Bain business model is what made us competitive in the global market place during the Clinton era and contributed to the economic boom.

This is why Clinton told Obama to lay off Bain. If Obama continues to push the Soros and Ayers agenda during his second term, this country will go under.

If Obama shelves the Progressive agenda and co-operates and embraces our capital free market Republic WE WILL PROSPER.

Obama still has to face the Benghazi cover up and come clean with the investigation or he may face impeachment like Nixon did with the Watergate scandal.

Obama,s policies of his first term made things worse and if he continues with the same, we will see double inflation and and high inflation.

I am a level 2 trader and understand economics very well.

For your information i am glad that Akin and Murdock are out and their views are not that of the party.

Akin fell miserably because the RNC and Crossroads pulled all his funding and left him to fend for himself which shows good stewardship on the part of the party.

There is no left or right but Americans working together To re-establish our Republic that our patriots fought for against the Anarchy of King George.

I am an Independent and have no party affiliation and The libtards this and the Teabaggers that and the rest of the nasty rhetoric I see on these posts is why this country is divided.

WHAT HAPPENED to the bi partisanship of the Reagan and Clinton era,s.

Look at the mudslinging on this posts.you will find the answer.

If you think a man with billionaires for friends made something of himself out of nothing you're incapable of logical thought. Where did this cardboard box fantasy come from, the man wasn't poor when his father died inheritance or not. He had already gone thru college at that point and benefited from his father's business contacts. He didn't NEED his dad's money, so he gave it to the church. They weren't destitute. Not even close.

Also Romney is by definition a corporate raider, that simply what the company he started did and does. It's how he made most of his money.

First of all, I'd like to congratulate President Obama on his victory - he has shown that 'Chicago-Style' politics does indeed work on a national scale. I do have to wonder though about whether his 'scorched Earth' tactics will do much about the animosity that has resulted from his extreme partisanship. With a huge increase in Debt for this country under his leadership, I see little chance of a strong economic recovery.

          I'm reminded of some old sayings;

"People tend to get what they deserve".

"You can fool most of the people all of the time".

"There's a sucker born every minute".

Unfortunately, we will likely have 'gridlock' in Washington for several more years, and we are likely to see the 'Real Obama' show his true colors - will he 'move to the center', or will he take a 'sharp turn to the Left'?

I joked in the last few days that I was reminded of Bill Murray's speech in the movie 'Meatballs' - to wit "It just doesn't matter", and I indeed feel that way now, because I have the good fortune not to be stuck with the consequences of this election, since I'm moving to Costa Rica.

Best wishes to all, and to all a good night.

Will you look at all these crybaby Republicans. It's funny. YOU LOST!! You put your eggs in the wrong basket. You are a joke. I am laughing at you losers. Do I need to explain more about your situation now? Do you need help figuring it out?

So many people told you that you were wrong and you didn't listen. We told you that Romney can't win and yet you come here thinking of anything you can say or do to try to make this a win for Romney and your decision. Guess what, you can't! YOU LOSE!!

I knew the sore losers would come here and spout drivel about how they can say something or lie about something and it will change the election and you'll somehow win but you can't. YOU LOSE!!

All those months wasted, talking about how Romney was going to win and Obama was done. Nice speech but I hope you might get a strong understanding about how stupid you look. Now I mean this in an educational way, not a bad way. Learn from your stupidity. Where did guaranteeing us all that, "Romney is going to win," get you?

Perhaps a name-changer is needed here:

          JK1963-

To all the others that are full of themselves with the Obama victory...you might have your highlight tonight, but you still have to live and work the next four years with a VAST majority that don't share your delight at the outcome of this election

          .

JK1963, What's wrong? God you act like you lost and election or some....er...oh...nevermind.

Poor guy. Well you don't have to stay here as the loser that you are. You can always move away, far away preferably, and go to another country where your stupid decisions can be hailed as superior intellect to native third-world tribes. No need to look dumb here. We can already see through your stupidity.

well maybe it wont be so bad ... they can just stay deadlocked when he tries to pass anything and then he'll have had 8 years of failure then. thatll really solidify a better candidate in 4 years. itll help define him too seeing as how (as we saw with bush) the last 4 years are the only ones anyone will remember you by. its sad though that half the voters that wanted him this round will turncoat and say theyve always wanted more freedom and less socialism ... even though they openly voted for him now. people are just as iffy as they said romney was.

          Translation:

I can see that I was wrong throughout this thread, and in fact, my entire life. President Obama, my President, not only won the Electral College, but also the popular vote. He is a fine Man, Commander-in-Chief, and President. I was wrong to doubt him so.

I know I have spent a lot of time on this forum telling people that President Obama didn't have a chance to win a second term and that Romney was going to win. I was obviously wrong. In fact, now that I think about it, I am wrong about a lot of things. Most things in fact. I would just like to take this time to apologize to you all for trying to show me, to help me, along a new path of being a more intelligent individual. I will now start looking up actual facts to share with the members of this community instead of just spouting off stupid things other Republicans have said before me.

I admit that I lost along with Romney and we are not both considered losers. I admit that I did believe the lies Romney tried to feed the American public. The lies that cost him the election.

I am a better man now. I will take all this bottled-up hatred and use it towards something more constructive like reading books, analying true data, and not blindly following a path laid before me by the Republican party. Thank you all and have a wonderful night!

Look at all the people that didn't waver or buy into the "scare tactics" and "outright lies" against the President. Look at all those that lost their seats in the house and bids for the Senate.....

I predicted 51% to 52%, and 303 EC votes for Obama. Right now, Florida has still not been called, and Obama has 50% and 303. I almost hope that Romney wins Florida, because it matters not plus it makes me look better.

I hope the country can come together after this. It is up to the baggers.

Roy Wilson - A reasonable response to what I'm sure you found to be a disappointing election result. I do disagree with several of your summary points and with your characterization of Obama's tactics as use of a "scorched earth policy".

If Romney lost, he lost because he was a candidate handicapped by the hyper-conservative litmus test he was forced to pass during the Republican primaries, wherein any position more moderate than Michael Savage was viewed as tantamount to being a communist. He further did himself in with incidents like the taping and release of his "47% remarks", wherein he lumped the working poor, social security recipients and the military in the same pot with the habitually unemployed.

I'll also point out that in 2008, this nation hovered on the brink of a second great depression, and that history may show that the massive stimulus spending, and the bailout of the auto industry was what save us from this fate.

So, if you are moving to Costa Rico, good luck. It is, by all accounts, a lovely country, where an American can live well on far less money than it costs here. But I think you'll be surprise by what transpires here, and in a positive manner.

          Here's what we now know.

          1. At the best, we will have 4 more years of gridlock, the worst, Greece.

          2. A majority of Americans now accept lying as appropriate and morally acceptable for a President.

          3. Millions of working people will now become the new working poor as they lose health care due to Obamacare.

          4. The Media cannot be relied upon to tell the truth.

          5. America on the whole will become much poorer than it is now because the problems in Washington will not be solved.

Bottom line, we are screwed unless Congress can keep Obama and his cronies' policies from being enacted.

The People have spoken so it looks like Mitch McConnell will be eating crow for the next four years. In turn with putting Congress back as it was a message was sent to the GOP side of the House. You will work with the President to get us out of this mess.

Nothing has changed except all of the GOP hopes have been smashed and now they are expected to work with Senate and the President to create jobs. End of story so lets see if McConnell puts on his big girl panties and does the job he was elected for along with the worthless cry baby Boehner or the other name we have for him here in Ohio.

Romney called Social Security, disability, SSI, medicare, and section 8, welfare programs, and said that America does not need these things nor can afford them and he plan to end them.

The only way he could end Social Security is to privatize it and let it go bankrupt, he could end medicare by making it a voucher program, disability, SSI, and section 8, he could stop funding for them, so actually he could end these programs, but by doing so he would cut off the only source of income for about 50 million families.

Romney knew when he said these things that there is no way in hell he could render 50 millions families homeless, but to knotheads they never thought about the people involved, they only thought Romney would trim big government.

How could Romney slash 5 trillion dollars from the budget if he didn't end all these programs, and the knotheads thought Romney would be the best president. I wonder how many of those knotheads that voted for Romney would be among the 50 million he would have made homeless if he were allowed to end these programs.

Hey, Am.Vets2, if you are a real vet, this might interest you, Romney wanted to end the VA also.

Please quit living in the past four years. The future is bright for America. The time for bipartisanship is now. Obama needs to reach across that aisle for America.

We have much work to do to improve ourselves and become more fiscally responsible. The way out of poverty and despair to success and happiness starts from the bottom up,not from the top down.

We will also continue to gain more of the worlds respect, by diplomacy, not threats. Terrorist will continue to be kept down as they have been, Obama speaks softly but carries a big stick, he is not afraid to use it when need be.

The hands of time will not be turned back, and I am happy about that.

          Congrats Obama and Biden !

Am.Vets2 seems to miss the point with his comment about "United States of Latin America".

Chris Todd just did a piece on the changing demographics in Florida, the increase in hispanic voters there, in Georgia, Arizona, and Texas, that predomiately vote Democratic.

Unless the Republican Party redesigns itself to represent the hispanic voter, which is the fastest growing demographic, they will eventually lose these States.

Hard to win an election while catering only to a demographic which is aging and dying off, crotchety old white guys.

-Oh you poor baby. Did you wose the ewection. Well Boo-Hoo!!

-Honestly, now I want an honest answer here. From anybody reading this. What do you think Rick here would do in the following scenario?

          Baseball:

Rick hits the ball to the third baseman and starts running to first base. He is just positive he is going to make it but the third baseman makes a terrific play and gets it to the first baseman long before Rick can touch the bag. The first baseman catches the ball with his foot on the bag and the umpire calls him out. What does Rick do?

          A) Looks at the first baseman and says, "Wow, nice play," and then heads back to the dugout.

          or

          B) Starts throwing a baby fit while blaming the third baseman's glove, the weight of the baseball, the Umpire's vision, and a conspiracy amongst everybody who saw the play as the reason he was called out.

          I'm going to pick "B"...

I hope all those clamoring about the National Debt realize that it was Reagan, Bush I, and then Bush II, that pointed us down this path. Maybe the deficit hawks amongst us should have showed more concern from say 2000 to 2008.

Hell, even the large deficits being run right now by Obama consist of primarily Bush legacy policies and low tax revenue from the recession dropped on us by the last Republican administration.

oh the irony of the Republicans...

          the party who spent 4 years calling Obama a "socialist," a "marxist," a "communist," and worse;

          the party that on day 1 of the Obama administration made it priority #1 to stonewall at every turn to make him a one term President;

          the party that spent 4 years questioning Obama's citizenship, requesting over and over and over again that he produce a valid birth certificate, and claiming he was born in Kenya;

... lambasting the President for running a "campaign on hate, race, blame, and excuses."

You should look in the mirror guys, its your disconnect with reality that caused you to get your asses handed to you in this election. Hell, John Boehner and other Republicans are ALREADY setting up for stonewalling and minority blocking ANY part of Obama's 2nd term agenda, despite the fact that a long electoral winter is staring them in the face if they repeat the same tactics that have steadily been making them irrelevant with all but the older, white, male voter...

It's unbelievable that after Obama did NOTHING for blacks, and black unemployment is up to 14%, that 95% blacks would vote for him. It like giving the rope to the man that wants to hang you.

Idiots should not be allowed to vote. Our country is being taken over by high school dropouts that are to stupid to make an informed, intelligent decision. I feel if you are too stupid to graduate from regular high school, you should not be able to vote. Oh, and GEDs do not count either.

Lastly, our society is becoming an entitlement society where there are more welfare recipients, more food stamp recipients, more students that do not want to pay for their student loans and think the government should relieve them, etc. All these handouts result in votes for the Democrat party. Now, a flood more illegals will be coming over from Mexico because they know that Obama will probably give them amnesty, resulting in more on the government dole, and more votes for Democrats. Its a vicious circle folks and America will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be the same. We are in a severe decline, and what made us great will never be the same.

Obama was victorious - but the country lost. I woke up Tuesday in the United States and woke up this morning in Greece.

Sad to see the once great country of the United States fall to its knees yesterday. A country cannot survive with a platform of "tax the rich" and "redistribute". Add unsustainable debt that can never be paid back and you have a recipe for collapse. You have Greece.

Those who voted for Obama think you have won - you didn't. You were victorious in the election - but the country lost. 7.9% unemployment is now considered the "norm". BTW, it WILL be increasing and in two years you will WISH for only 7.9% unemployment. 2% GDP is now considered the norm. 40% more on Food Stamps in now considered the norm. 1 in 6 in Poverty is now considered the norm.

Increased taxes will be the norm. Cuts in Medicare and Social Security will HAVE to take place within two years - not because you will WANT to but because you will HAVE to. The country is now on its final knee. You will not recognize this country in less than 10 years.

I am 50 years old so now I focus on survival and what I need to do the next 5 to 10 years to plan for the collapse. Don't worry, I'll be okay. But the next generation will not be. This country cannot survive on its current path. You can party now and the unintelligent have every right to party - they have become victorious in this election. But within 10 years you will see the loss. This country cannot survive.

Just like in 1776 when the founding fathers risked everything to start a new nation it may be time for the United States to split. Become two countries. We in the south have New England and California and a few liberal states in-between dictating how we must live and tell us what moral values we are not allowed to have. You tell us we cannot believe in God. You tell us what we think doesn't matter. But it does. You are welcome to a collapsing country and economy but that is not what the founding fathers offered and died for.

So we must break away from what this country has become. It is no longer the United States of America. We must have our own country where we can live in freedom. Away from the king of Britain - I mean away from the king in Washington D.C. Time to push through a separation. Time to allow the liberals to have a country they can damage and push towards Greece and allow the conservatives an area where we can live without dictatorships and kings.

Where is that? I don't know. Give us a state and leave us alone. Alaska? I'll move there within 60 days. Texas? I can pack my bags quickly. I no longer want to live in a dictatorship. I no longer want to live in a country that no longer stands for the values of the common man. I no longer want to live in a country where dictators believe it is okay to take money from the producers and give to those who don't produce. I no longer want to live in a country where praying to our god is ridiculed but homosexuality is considered normal. I no longer want to live in a country where killing a fetus is considered okay but stopping the irrigation of farmland is stopped due to a minnow (the Delta Smelt).

I want to live in a country where every person has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness just like our founding fathers wrote in our Constitution. Time to split this country and the liberals can have their portion of the country and the conservatives can have their portion. Just try to guess which one thrives within 10 years and which one collapses.

Thomas Jefferson once said "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.". Have we reached that point where the people have to live in a tyrannical government? Just listen to the rhetoric of Obama over the last 4 years and the answer is "yes".

I see a revolt in the near future. I see a revolution. I see this country can no longer survive in its current form and will need to be split. Whether that happens in a peaceful compromise or not is up to what is left of a collapsing government, society, and economy. This split will have to occur to save at least a portion of this country. How this split occurs will be the interesting part.

Thank you, Silver Flyer for your kind words. I always appreciate your comments too. I'm not sure if the progressive commenters on FR have changed any conservative minds, but you guys have impressed me greatly with your intelligence and spirit. You have been a much-needed support network on the long road to re-electing Barack Obama, and I thank you for your good humor and tenacity.

Now we need to continue the work of moving this country forward, one mind at a time.

GOP: It is high time to shelve the failed ideology, the backward agenda, and the divisive rhetoric.

          Goodbye to Rover and Grover.

At last we can live in peace in the silence left by the departure of Willard Mitt Romney, a name that will become nothing more than a footnote in the history books.

          Dear GOP,

You didn't lose because Americans are stupid. You didn't lose because Americans are lazy. You didn't lose because of voter fraud. You didn't lose because of Sandy. You didn't lose because we're Socialists, Communists or Marxists.

          This is why you lost...

          "Self deportation"

          "Binders full of women"

"I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman"

"They're are 47%, who are dependent on government, who believe they are victims"

No, you lost because the term "Americans" encompasses more than rich, straight, white men. So if you're ready to acknowledge that and move forward with the rest of us, well great. If not, than yes, you will have nothing but gridlock. But it will be gridlock of your own making.

Oh, and WOW, it seems a lot of you woke up with psychic abilities today. That must have been creepy.

Well maybe you should wash you sheets more often sir.lol

You can take the nose off now sir. I have shown you how Obama did not lie. Asked you countless times to show me these lies, you could not. Look to the future sir. We need to hold both sides to account. I usually stay out of politcs but this year many were lying and unfairly blaming our presidnt for every sneeze in the country. I could not take any more, and put ones such as yourself in your place, more than once I might add.

I must commend you for not hiding and coming back out to defend what you think is right. Now I will leave you with this once again.

Obama did not lie, what Obama did was try.

The rubber has finally hit the road whith that trying and that aint no lying.

Coral: I don't want to get into an argument. Basically my post states that liberals have hatred and disdain towards those with conservative values. That is fine. I simply am saying that we are forcing two strongly opposing views on each other. Liberals say conservatives are pushing "pro-life" values, moral values, etc. Liberals don't like that. Fine, I have no problem with that.

Liberals are welcome to live how they want to live as long as it doesn't affect me. And I would hope Liberals believe conservatives are welcome to live how we want to live as long as it doesn't affect you. And I am fine with that. But our political system won't let that happen.

States no longer have the rights the founding fathers gave them. States USED to have control of their own states. In fact the 10th Amendment says "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved the the States respectively, or to the people". But we have lost that. States are dictated by the Federal Government what they can do and the people also no longer have a say.

BTW, THAT was the same reason for the Civil War in 1861. Many say slavery caused the Civil War. For those who have studied history that was not true. Slavery was a symptom of the Civil War - not the cause. Federal Government dictating to the states what they can and cannot do caused the Civil War - and will cause a 2nd Civil War.

Our Federal government has taken over such control that the states no longer control their own destiny. The founding fathers gave states rights for a reason - conservative philosophy would push conservatives to states that match that belief system. Liberal philosophy would push liberals to states that match that belief system. But our federal government now dictates and that makes the federal government a dictatorship. Liberals tell conservatives how they should believe - sorry, not going to happen.

So one side or the other is upset every election. Basically 50% is upset every election. Last night was conservatives and liberals are laughing and poking fun. THAT is not how a society should run. THAT is not how a society survives. And when Bush was elected in 2000 conservatives were happy but liberals upset.

My suggestion, albeit a "demand", to split the country is NOT out of spite or hatred. I appreciate everybody's opinion and don't believe conservative values should be pushed on liberals and vice versa. If you are a conservative then you should have the right to live with other conservatives and have a conservative government. If liberal then you should have the right to live with other liberals and have a liberal government. But forcing each philosophy on others is not how a country can survive. This country needs to be split. It is going to happen either through our federal government or through a revolution of the people.

A 2nd Civil War WILL occur if we don't split the country peacefully. There I said it. Many don't want to say it or admit it but we have gone nearly 160 years without a Civil War. Kudos to a country that can accomplish that. But it is coming to an end. A Civil War will be occurring and will be occurring sooner than you would like to admit.

Thomas Paine wrote 'Common Sense' in 1776 and in it is said "Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in the best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one/ for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country, WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer." We have reached that point. We have a tyrannical government and one that no longer is for the people and by the people.

It is time to start talking about splitting this country while it can be done peacefully. If we continue to delay this conversation it will ultimately lead to an uprising and a revolt which nobody wants - but will occur if we ignore it. 160 years with a Civil War is a great accomplishment - can we survive another 5 years before a 2nd Civil War occurs? That I don't know.

So, working class - if we can't beat them, join them. Quit our jobs, sell off enough of the items we have worked long and hard for, just to make sure we quality for welfare.

Now we don't have to get up every day and go to work! We can sleep in, or all day, if we want. Instead of deciding what to wear to work, we can spend that time deciding where to go and what to do all day.

Everything is FREE!! AND we won't have to pay taxes!! Instead will get bonuses in way of stimulus money - and we didn't even have to do anything!!

One drop of SPANISH BLOOD does not make these "hispanics" GOD's GIFT TO AMERICA. A legacy of Africa slave trading doesn't make "hispanics" look to good to the average black American either. I don't include OBAMA because he is all colors to all people.

Hey! What's the SPANISH word for "black"????

Shuklack: But secede is what will be necessary. "Free people" have the right to believe what they believe and follow a path they think is in their best interest. In Egypt the "people" were dictated too, their beliefs ignored, and the rose above it and revolted. Many in this country thought it was a sign of "courage" and determination not to be held down by government.

And yet we have the same thing here? Liberals believe it appropriate to ridicule and name-call and through their power push through a government that believes it acceptable to limit our ability to believe in god, force morally corrupt views like homosexuality and abortion, pass a government controlling health care law, dictate that money should be redistributed (and get those that don't "produce" to vote them in so they can take from the "producers"), and so on.

And you criticize my desire to secede? If the rolls were reversed and conservatives were in power and pushed their ideals wouldn't liberals be asking the same thing? Of course they would - they did from 2000 until 2006. I say we quite avoiding the huge pink elephant in the room and realize that our country is made up of two distinct and different philosophies. Split the country and let the people decide which direction they want to go.

I will not support the liberal philosophy. It is damaging the economy and the last four years prove that. Liberals say conservatives are the reason the economy hasn't recovered. Then let's solve it. If we split the country then liberals can push their philosophy and conservatives can push their philosophy in their country. I would think you would want that? Aren't liberals actually stating conservatives are the reason why the economy is not recovering? Wouldn't getting us out of the way give you the ability to push your liberal philosophies and get the laws passed you want? I would think liberals would LOVE to get rid of conservatives but yet you act like you don't want us to leave. Why is that? Aren't we the ones getting in the way anyway? Let us go. Let us start our own country then you could have everything you could possibly desire.

Oh, NOW I realize why you don't want conservatives to leave and start our own country - because you need the wealth and income FROM the conservatives to redistribute to your liberal agenda. Sorry, doesn't work like that. This country needs to speak openly about splitting the country. It cannot survive on its current path. We need to split this country during peaceful times before an uprising and revolt takes place starting a 2nd Civil War. This 2nd Civil War will take place much sooner than you think so it is wise for us as a country to come up with a compromise now before it turns into a violent 2nd Civil War.

You are seriously confused about the reason for Greece's collapse. Greece collapsed because it has very little money, and it has very little money because the Greek avoid paying taxes - in Greece, you are considered a simpleton if you pay your taxes.

Whether you embody such attitudes in the popular culture, or whether you embody them in the tax code - you get the same result - if people don't pay taxes you have ballooning national debt and an eventual inability to pay your bills.

I can't believe all the STUPID comments on this site. America is in deep deep trouble. You think that America is better off with the following, then there really is no hope for you:

Over 8% unemployment for a record 43 months in a row! It's now said to be 7.9%, up from one month ago, which still stinks. Oh, BTW, they didn't include California in the totals, which has over 10% unemployment. Duhhh. So, it's still over 8% folks.

Over $16.2 trillion in debt and counting!!! He increased it six trillion rather than reduce it five trillion as promised.

            Over 14% unemployment for blacks.

Anemic economic growth, year after year, after year.

No budget for the past three years as required by the Constitution.

A healthcare plan that will cost over three times what they said it would, was opposed by over 60% of the population, sucks over $700,000,000 out of Medicare to help pay for it, and wasn't even read by any member of Congress that voted for it? How could you vote for a bill you haven't even read?

Solyndra FAIL and cover-up (or at least no due diligence) that cost taxpayers over half a billion dollars.

FAILURE to protect our embassy in Libya resulting in the deaths of four Americans, and the cover-up afterward. Obama stalling until after the election.

Fast and Furious FAILURE, resulting in the death of a boarder control officer and the cover-up by the Obama administration. Holder held in contempt of Congress. Case still not solved due to Obama's stalling.

To all die-hard republican and Romney voters:

Do you remember at the beginning of the republican primary, the republican party did not want Romney to run because he carried too much negative baggage, that was until they realized he would make the perfect weak president.

In Romney they could have a president that they could force to sign everything they placed on his desk. They even said, we don't need a strong president to tell us what he wants to do, we know what we want to do.

The republican party thinks Romney is a joke, but you think he would have saved the country.

Rather, my interest is in your conclusion that liberals "hate" conservatives.

Just think that through for a moment.

Name one bill, for example, that the Dems created that demanded you do anything. You'll reach and try to make a case for ObamaCare, which will be a lot of fun to see. But what you cannot find is a bill forcing women wanting abortions to undergo specific needless procedures in order to instill your own supposed, but quite distorted, Judeo-Christian morality on a secular population—something in direct opposition to the words and, more importantly, the spirit of the very Constitution you think you uphold as sacred.

I take it that this, to you, is not "conservatives hating liberals?"

What you will not find is immigration reform build around racial profiling, or calls for "Self-deportation", which was originally a comedic sketch. Just look it up—Romneybot never bothered.

And this... not hated for liberals, specifically those with different cultural roots or skin color than your own?

I could go on and on... and on with how much the conservative right holds those who reject or even 'object' to your values with utter disdain and physical hatred... and I could easily discuss the fire and brimstone hatred of so many right-wingers over those of us, like myself, in the field of science, and who embrace rationalism over superstition and dogma.

Mind you, I'm a former pastor, so my turn from what you believe to be Christianity was one based upon 18 years of study and reflection. When you hear "atheist", or "agnostic" as a self-assigned descriptive, keep that in mind, while also keeping in mind how I have personally seen and experienced your vitriol, both in word and (attempted) physical abuse. (I also happen to be well-studied in martial arts, so that latter bit didn't fair too well for the Bible-thumping wannabe pugilist.)

However, while you strike me as a literate man, you also present yourself as a man without the capacity to see the folly of his own beliefs. "Pro-life" in quotations, for example. When a rationalist points out that your own god has no issues with abortion (between 35-50% of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortions, for example), you point out that, somehow, god is morally exempt from this same moral code you embrace. Ontologically, this is a necessary evil—your god can do no wrong. Hence, I supposed, the continued belief in prayer, despite the overwhelming statistical failure of prayer, in particular intercessory prayer.

My point: this same refuge of rational quick sand traps you into equally inane political beliefs and leanings—so much so that you prefer the biggest liar in political history over his liberal opponent, despite lying being against your exact same professed moral standard. Romneybot isn't just a man who lies—everyone has lied. He IS a LIAR. And, while I could be mistaken, I suspect you know this to be true. So, logically, this should be no different than a candidate who supports a woman's right to choose... or supports/embodies any other characteristic of 'sin' you might find. Romneybot goes a step further, of course, with Mormonism, but that too is and was overlooked for... what?

                Money.

Ah, money. That stuff that Jesus didn't seem to place much value upon? Yeah, that.

I'm in the top 1%—and my profession, years of study, and dedication places me there. But do you think I mind, in the slightest, paying 3-5% more in taxes to help educate, care for medically, or ease the burden of my fellow man?

No, I do not. And that's because, unlike the VAST majority of your fellow conservatives, I do not ascribe to the notion that they are lazy, or under-qualified, or as The Bot put it, unable to take personal responsibility for their own lives. Are there people like that in the system? Sure. There are rotten apples in every system on earth. That should surprise no one. There's just no where near as many as most conservatives believe when it comes to entitlement programs (and I'll be the first to champion reforms on many of these programs to weed out the moochers.)

You see, unlike most conservatives, I fully GET the fact that these people, folks from every economic strata, employ ME. I'm not in this alone. As they succeed, I succeed. This isn't socialism (although the first church in Acts was most assuredly socialists, sharing all possessions equally...perhaps you should read up on that.) This is Americanism.

Adam Smith feared the very things you (or, rather, those who share many of your perceived values) embrace, namely unfettered capitalism. That's NEVER been what made America great, and if sanity prevails, as it did last nigh, it never will be.

So, sir, I do not hate you. I may despise what you believe about some issues, but in order to hate anything, relationship is necessary, otherwise it's needless fear masquerading as hatred. I do not hate my conservative friends, despite a relationship being present.

What I 'hate', if I was to use the term, is what unchecked, unexamined religious and/or political views can do to the human spirit.

Religion and politics seem to have a foothold on the strangling of reason and understanding that supersedes any other manmade construct. This leaves us with atrocities of the worst nature, from genocide to emotional and intellectual suicide. There are no greater enemies to enlightenment than blind dogma or devotion to either.

In conclusion, I doubt you woke up in Greece after Reagan raised taxes... what, eight times was it?

Revising history will never change what is, nor what was.

                Thanks.

Rob: You are the first one to catch my point. I kept waiting for someone to recognize:)!!

Liberal philosophy has NEVER worked in history and no society or economy has ever lasted more than a couple decades on a redistributive philosophy. This is because you punish those that succeed and incentivize those that don't. So those that succeed decide to no longer succeed. Why risk money when you might lose it if unsuccessful but give to the government when successful? So if conservatives started their own country the liberals couldn't last one year on their own.

So those that can succeed decide to no longer risk their capital and the economy starts its downward collapse. Yesterday's election proved that when unintelligent people vote the consequences are beyond their comprehension. Well you get what you voted for so enjoy the collapse. I'll be watching from my front porch with a tear in my eye. The once great country I grew up in is no more and never will be.

You want to see what happens when you punish success and spend more than you have? Just look at California. An energy rich state with plenty of sunshine and talent - on the verge of collapse. The unintelligent voter in America did the same thing yesterday and our U.S. economy will look like California in less than 3 years with a final economic and currency collapse within 5 years.

Doesn't bother me though: I have stocked up on long shelf-life food, stocked up on ammunition, and have a safe full of silver and copper to use for barter and trade when the U.S. currency collapses. How have YOU prepared for the collapse?

Jon: It is not beneficial to get into a back and forth "he said she said". All I have clarified is that liberals believe it appropriate and permissible to take money from those that "have" and give to those that "don't have". Force people to buy things they might not want. Force people to pay for items against their moral beliefs (birth control/abortions). And now the people have reelected a person who believes strongly that those who have succeeded have done so at the expense of those less fortunate. THAT cannot be denied because Obama even SAID it when he said "You didn't build that".

But semantics and I don't want to get into a debate - we beat that dead horse sufficiently over the last 6 months. The people have decided and voted yesterday. All I am saying is this country cannot succeed without businesses and the people have voted for more government public sector and less private sector.

So I am here to tell you that history shows clearly that when a country punishes those that succeed and incentivize those that do not more people move towards government for their security. Benjamin Franklin said "He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither". Well yesterday's election finalized that worry. We have crossed that final bridge to government tyranny and control and the unintelligent voteres are not even smart enough to realize it.

So I have decided to close my business and watch the final collapse of this economy and currency from the sideline. I'll be okay. I have enough food to survive. I have enough ammunition when it gets nasty. And I have enough precious metals to use for barter and trade when the currency collapses. Not that you were worried about me but nobody needs to worry about me. I'll be fine.

But those people who rely on government will be in a world of hurt when the government no longer has enough tax revenue to give money to those who rely on government. They won't survive. They can't last three days on their own. When the currency collapses what are they to do? They will resort to riots and looting. I'll be in the country on several acres and can protect myself and family but those still in city areas will see things that make the Greece riots look like Disney World.

It is going to get nasty and going to get nasty very quickly. Many have NO IDEA how close this collapse is. All it takes is an event. One more credit downgrade or two and that is when it will spiral out of control. The world financial markets deciding they no longer feel comfortable lending the U.S. money. Anything can spark it. Call me a "wacko" or call me "crazy" all you want to but I study economic and societal history and the writing is on the wall. I simply suggest to those that can start preparing - because when it happens it will not be a pretty site. Best to prepare in advance.

I was wrong. I thought 319. I thought Va would eventually go Red. I thought Fl would have decided by now and be Blue. Still waiting for the geezers in Miami to finish counting. Right now it's 303 and waiting for Fl. That will make it 332.

Sounds like you need a week at Disney World after you close up shop. They just bought Star Wars for 4. something billion, they do not seem that concerned about the future of America.lol When they start worrying then I will start worrying.lol

Amazing, ProBusiness, Alan and Rob must still be getting paid for their comments here, considering the number of posts, the amount of words and their long list of debunked talking points from their new working sheet....Trying to spread their fear mongering, debunked talking points/lies and their bitterness at having lost....it ALMOST makes me feel sorry for them, but Nahhhh, they dug their pit and are gonna have to lay in it (to Quisinart some old cliche's) I would have thought that those paid blogger companies would have up and folded by now!

Time to give in and start working for EVERYBODY instead of just the half of the Nation that YOU seem to think represents all of us...News: it does not, we are a diverse Nation and trying to remain the Country of the Pale, Male, Stale, Uber Rich, straight old white guys is past. Leave the 19th century behind and join us here in the 21st century so that we can make this a better place for ALL of us!

CHANGE IS Happening, whether you like that or not, so it is time for you to change as well. Believe me, you will be much happier with the results!

And what the right has completely forgotten is that this nation was CONCEIVED, DESIGNED and BUILT by Progressive Liberals: Our Constitution is absolute proof of this! Forget or deny this at your own peril. The right wing has been trying to make us another Greece, where the banksters rule, the people do not get the things that they need because the banks suck up all the money due to the fraudulently imposed debt and the way the rich rigged the tax system so as to 'starve the Government'....sound familiar Groverites?

Obama is going to say thanks to the people who got him elected by kicking them in the teeth and giving more to the rich. I'm sure he views them all as suckers:

                  Obama wins reelection

                  By Patrick Martin

                  7 November 2012

…Obama's victory speech, delivered just before 2 a.m., sounded the same themes. He downplayed any mandate from his election victory, speaking instead of "difficult compromises" that lay ahead.

He pledged to "sit down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can work together."

"I am looking forward to reaching out and working with the leaders of both parties to reduce the deficit and reform the tax system," Obama declared, adding, "You voted for action, not politics as usual." This should be understood as a pledge that the reelected president will move rapidly to reach a budget deal with congressional Republicans, in line with the demands of Wall Street.

Obama will repay those who turned out to vote for him by carrying out measures that will devastate their jobs, living standards and social conditions. The "grand bargain" that he has pledged to negotiate with the Republicans will come at the expense of the working class, through trillions in cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other social programs.

Obama also hailed the US military, mentioning specifically the special forces troops who killed Osama bin Laden, while claiming that his administration was "bringing war to an end." This was a reference to Afghanistan, but US troops will remain there in force for years to come, while those who are moved out will be redeployed for intervention in Syria, Iran or other targets of imperialist military attack…

...The vote is an expression of deep popular hostility to both the social layer personified by ex-Bain Capital CEO Romney, i.e., the financial parasites responsible for the 2008 crash and the subsequent economic slump, and to the ultra-right politics of the Republican Party. It also shows there are remaining illusions within the working class that Obama, despite his record over the past four years, represents an alternative to Romney and the financial elite, although popular support for Obama has diminished significantly since 2008.

Many who voted for Obama did so to keep Romney and the Republicans out, not because they were enthusiastic about a second Obama term….

…It is more clear than ever that the Tea Party was created by sections of the media and corporate elite in the aftermath of the Republican collapse in 2008 as an instrument to push through far-right policies and shift the official political spectrum further to the right. Despite the enormous publicity given this right-wing grouping, it has negligible popular support….

...The Democrats will, as always, interpret their own victory in the most restrained and conservative terms. The last thing they want is a mandate to oppose the plutocracy, since they serve the same corporate interests. They will extend the olive branch to the Republicans, allowing the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to set the agenda in Washington, as it has for the past two years.

The result of the contests for the 435 seats in the House showed virtually no change, with Democrats winning back some seats they had lost in 2010, particularly in the northeast, Illinois, Florida and California, but losing seats elsewhere in the South and scattered across the Midwest, for a net gain of a handful of seats, far short of the 25 required to win control.

The Obama White House made virtually no effort to elect a Democratic-controlled House, with the president providing a recorded phone call offering his personal support to only one Democratic congressional candidate.

The reaction of spokesmen for the two parties demonstrated the continued aggressiveness of the Republican right, despite the presidential defeat, and the undiminished desire of the Democrats to accommodate the Republicans. House Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in Washington, declared that the election was "no mandate for raising taxes." Julian Castro, chosen by Obama as the keynote speaker at the Democratic convention, said the election was "a mandate for compromise."

Pro - While I find your comments intriguing and fascinating to read, I must call into question why you believe it would be in the countries best interest to "divide" for the sake of "civility" if I understand you correctly. I understand you point completely and believe me when I say that the history lessons you provide, though slightly shifted to fit your philosophy are knowledgeable, they are not needed to prove your point, you don't like liberals and feel that conservative values should be the only way govern the country and I can respect that.

Now this is my opinion only, I'm going to assume(yes I know that's a dangerous word) that before you came into your "conservative values", you were pretty liberal in obtaining your status you currently hold. Once you were comfortable with what you have, you, like the rest of those that believe they are better than the rest of the world, decided to be conservative in order to ensure you don't go back to where you were before. Don't get me wrong when I say that those that can find success in this world deserve kudos for it BUT that doesn't mean you should "snub" your nose at the rest of the world. (The notion i mentioned earlier about you implying a peaceful division of the country is better than a civil war AND calling those that voted are not intelligent proves my point).

Having said all that here's my point. As a 20 year Navy veteran who has served this country proudly without question or reservation, have seen this country unite and divide over the smallest of issues. I've been in conflicts I didn't agree with but nevertheless obeyed the orders of the the Commander-in-Chief even when I knew the reason was a lie. I've served with people that didn't like me or belonged to a certain "group" that didn't care for anyone other than their own BUT when push came to shoved WE came together and did what we had to do to defend our great nation side by side so that people like you can sit back and complain and moan about how screwed up the country is because it doesn't agree with your views. I didn't complain and moan when Obama froze all government wages for 2 years in order to save the government money even though when I retired in '09 I didn't have a job(due to no one hiring) AND knew that the annual pay raise I was felt I was entitled to wasn't coming. I didn't complain because I knew that the country would be better off in the long run.

What I don't understand is these are the founding principles created by the so called founding fathers that make this country great. we are ALL FREE to a certain extent in this country and just because a "select few" of people don't agree with your views or voted the way you "feel" they should have voted doesn't give you the right to call them "unintelligent". You see as an independent I look at both sides, evaluate each position, and decide which candidate I feel whose policies are going to make a difference not only for me but for the nation as a whole. Does this mean that my vote for Obama makes me unintelligent in your eyes? If that's the case I can say the same for you BUT you are entitled to you opinion so I won't.

I will say that we as a society need to do more to help our country succeed as a collective unit and NOT as individuals solely out for themselves. This is where division takes root and people start pointing fingers and blaming others when they should be blaming themselves for not wanting to put country first instead of themselves. Then again those of us that volunteer our services to our country understand this better than those that refuse, hide or are afraid to serve. We should respect the rights of others just like we expect others to respect us and to call others "names" simply because they don't agree with your views calls into question who side are YOU really on?

The election is over, Romney lost, BIG TIME, but die-hard republican voters and the republican party as a whole still don't get it. America is not made up of only very conserative right wing white people. I might have been to quick to include the republican party because they did try to suppress voting rights, so they are aware other races live here also, they just could not find it in their hearts to acknowledge them.

Romney was talking to white men only, he mention other races and women from time to time, but he wasn't talking to them at all.

Imagine telling women as Romney did, NO, you cannot have pay equal to men, you must tell your boss why you are going to the doctor, and if he has anything personal against your reason, he can either not let his insurance pay for your doctor visit or fire you. Agreed with women having to undergo unneeded medical procedures, then telling women, now go vote for me. The surprising thing is, a lot of women did.

Until the republican party stop talking to only rich white men, they will continue to go downhill. I for one will not vote for any republican for any reason because the way I see things, everything republicans do is for the benefit of rich white men.

Before they even start talks about creating much needed jobs, they want to give rich white men massive tax cuts, because they are the job creators.

Government is to big, we must make it smaller, so they wanted to use the Ryan budget, giving rich white men massive tax cuts.

Paying all shipping costs for rich white men to move their companies and jobs overseas.

Can anybody tell me one thing republicans have done or wanted to do that didn't include hurting the poor and middle class or giving rich white men massive tax cuts?

alan3008: America is seriously BROKEN when a man with so many failures can be re-elected.

I agree Alan. I said that during his FIRST election. But, despite the fact that he bankrupted almost every successful, turnkey business his daddy gave him to run, and despite the fact that he abandoned his national guard post like a coward, and (the list goes on) -- this idiotic nation put Dumbya Bush into the White House -- TWICE! And it was just because he clutched a BuyBull and mumbled enough scripture to woo enough BuyBull NumbNuts to vote for him...

...and, unfortunately, his policies and the GOP policies destroyed our nation's economy, collapsed the Banking and Housing markets, threw us into a massive recession, and entered us into multi-Trillion Dollar Wars that we never needed to fight -- except for his own Mission Accomplished Ego and Dumbya Stupidity.

At least now, we see recovery -- albeit, not as fast as we'd like, but it does take longer to rebuild than it does to destroy. That doesn't make all the "Give It To Me NOW" Americans, but it took Dumbya and the GOP the better part of a decade of Horrible Policy to bring the United State to its knees -- to think we'll turn the ship around faster than that is unrealistic. And the TAKE FROM THE POOR AND GIVE MORE TO THE RICH ideas continually foisted by the Right Wing doesn't do anything to solve the problem either.

                    Cheers!

On the other side the GOP got what it deserves for treating half of their voters like crap and rejecting Ron Paul. If he would have been the candidate, it would have been a landslide win for them.

"But despite lingering divisions, the president emphasized points of unity,"

That wasn't his 'style' in his first 4 years, so I doubt he will change overnight. I suspect we will have many more years of 'Gridlock' since Obama's narrow victory will not be construed as a 'mandate' - the Republicans again had a convincing win in the House, which will prevent 'radical change'.

Four more years of class warfare, and four more years of blaming someone else for his failures. I guess there's truth in the old saying 'You can fool SOME of the people ALL of the time'. They will have plenty of time to 'repent at leisure'.

The Hispanic's were Obama's key to victory - I guess they fell for Obama's rhetoric about 'comprehensive immigration reform' one more time.

Fortunately for me and my family, I don't have to live with the consequences, since I'm moving to Costa Rica soon. Unfortunately for the critics, I will still have Internet.

PS - Here was a key to Obama's victory - from 'The Blaze'

"In the 2012 election, one candidate took advantage of the loosening of campaign finance to rack up over a billion dollars in donations, spend nearly three times as much as his opponent on mostly negative ads, and break records for total amount of spending. His name was Barack Obama."

                      FYI - These figures come from Obama's own White House Budget projections - link below;

National Debt as of the end of fiscal 2008 (Bush's last year) = $9.986 Trillion.

National Debt at the end of fiscal 2016 (Obama's last year) = $20.391 Trillion.

By the way - this includes Obama's 'assumption' that he gets his tax increases on the 'rich'. If that doesn't happen, the Debt will be higher.

I find it ironic that the young people who provided Obama with his margin of victory are the very same ones that will 'inherit' this unsustainable Debt burden, and have to pay for it - with interest.

I guess you might call that 'Retribution'. LOL

Here's the link - See Table 7.1; By the way - For those who are unfamiliar with Economics, the amount of interest payments on the Debt will have to be paid with higher taxes on the Middle/Upper class - Under Bush, it averaged slightly under $200 Billion per year, but if the interest rates return to the average under Clinton of 4.7%, the interest payments alone will skyrocket to about $1 Trillion per year.

Congratulation to the Dems for a great win. Now lets see where they take us. Ball is in Obama's court. Going to be pretty tough with the revenge and all crap to make this work.

I sure hope they have more ideas than the last four years. If they think that the problems are less than the past they are dreaming. I'll bet the national debt will exceed $20 trillion dollars before he leaves. Any takers? Here is one for the kids that voted, the debt clock is still rolling and you are the ones that are going to pay for it. It is only going to get worst since 10,000 people are reaching 65 every day. Wait until you have 40% of the population over 65. What is it going to work out as 3 workers for every retiree. So when will you be over to cut my grass. Just kidding. I am plan on living a very long time.

I am buying the democrats position that is not broke so leave it alone. Obama said so. Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Romney, meanwhile, added some last-minute campaigning to his schedule instead of enjoying down time.

Mitt is desperate...will be rejected by We the People.

In a very neutral environment, like say, c-span and/or politico.com.

Its a great night to be an American. We have shown the haters who claim to be patriotic that the path to the White House isn't what they thought it would be. The country didn't buy what Mitt and Ryan were selling. Good bye Romney, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I've been in hiding for 10 months (no 24 hour news during that time, very few Newsvine political articles/posts - it was great), is it safe to come out - have all those Fox castaways gone away yet?

Very good points malarson and tonybeeerm. People in certain counties of Ohio, VA and other states are reeling in disbelief tonight, they were so sure the Republicans would have a land slide and win Ohio, and they just could not face or see anything but winning, why? Because they have a biased media. Its as simple as that. The solution for this communications breakdown and lack of an educated informed and more worldly view of the facts of current events is that every town must have more than one newpaper and radio station to listen to and not be cut off.

Rude and closed minded is not going to work. Time for that to go the way of all antiquated and failed ways, and onward to the future! Andrea Mitchel is giving the Republican Party a scolding about giving in to the teabaggers and extremists. She uses the word "inclusionist"...Clinton's word, oh the moments of victory, and long vindication of the rights and emancipation of women, men, and all Americans, which after all the crazy speak, thank goodness, is renewed again by a united People no longer fooled. Democracy has worked again and the world loves America again for being real.

I listened to many experts tonight, the difference was to do with facts vs belief. Knowledge is the greatest faith of all folks, and tonight democracy won over the power elite because of an educated and informed population of voters who got up and got out to go for what they know works for America for real. We have a serious future to face that calls for smart change by all, not just a castle on the hill.

Individual rights is where it is at and we must constantly be vigilant to maintain our freedoms and individual rights. The Democrats are inclusive and egalitarian humanists. It follows that it is a well known fact that caring and sharing, working together fair and square, creating a broad based egalitarian middle class is more likely to keep the customs that maintain trust and balance in a safe world of peaceful civilized coexistence for all. This is where it's at for the voters of the USA today.

Congrats to all my true blue fellows out there for getting up and making it happen. You have worked so hard. It is scary to see now the craziness that is coming out of the right wing extremists (Trump et al tweets for example, and all the hateful words) reveals the cruelty and an elitist perspective from the past, and prejudices and bigotry which is a thing that no longer has a place in today's working melting pot of America.

People of America on every level!!! We The People are no longer fooled, but educated. Two cents adds up over a whole population giving to help each other! Lets get ready to join our President to move forward and really change this nation! I do not mind paying for those things I need in my community like schools, clean water, trash collection, repaired bridges, dams and roads, law enforcement, elderly care or shelter for the handicapped and poor, and emergency responders! It takes a village of citizens!

Oh yes We can and yes We did and yes We will move forward together now! Tonight is proof that we can pitch in and that we are all powerful and worth it! We have the know-how, the innovation, the determination, we care about our lives and each other, in our own towns, cities, and suburbs, we must now strive to be our best, for our children, for the future, helping, saving and preserving our world, lets go forward together now to find the solutions and fix the problems, and that is equally All, including the rich who can give a little more too! We have a lot to do, lets get going and thank goodness, now we can!

                        Mostly, congrats and thanks to...

                        OBAMA/BIDEN 2012, oh yes! 4 more years!!! ;D

Um, no. Obama won the popular vote too.

                        Obama 58,294,514

                        Romney 56,189,645

That would be .... 2,104,869 more votes for Obama then for Romney.

So just how would that have been a landslide for Romney.

But then maybe in your reality, the person with the least votes wins? But not in this one.

In this reality, the scary brown man still lives in the White House. For four more years. And you will just have to live with that.

You are wrong. And it would be nice if you, and people like you, could join the rest of us in reality. That way, maybe we could all avoid falling off that cliff. Because if we do fall off of it. You will be just as screwed as the rest of us will be.

Very nice post. But the truth is I don't think they want to clear their minds and accept the fact that President Obama is NOT all of the ridiculously negative things they say he is. They will not be open and admit all of the accomplishments that he has and there are quite a few historical moments for this President...But most of all they will not admit that he, President Barack Obama is an example of what all men should aspire to be. With all the negativity thrown at him, all the lies told on him, all of the names they have called him, OUR PRESIDENT, not one time ever fell into that trap! He never said mean things back for he has an abundance of integrity! They won't read the very long list of accomplishemnts that despite all that he was up against, he made s h i t happen! President Barack Obama is a to say the least, a stand up guy!

I am disgusted by the comments on here, on BOTH sides. The right wingers with their whining and paranoia AND the left wingers with their sore-winner attitudes. I am especially disgusted by Malarson's comment in which he lists off a bunch of users. The fact that you actually kept a list like that is semi-disturbing, almost stalker-ish. Then you call out all these people for having a different opinion only to go "let's be friends :)". You must be really naive to think that they're going to do that after being insulted by everyone else on here. And if they DO accept your little offer that'll just mean that they're weak and that they should feel awful because they were wrong, and then you and the others get a big ego boost and get to gloat even more.

I'm beginning to think I voted for the wrong candidate. I feel ashamed to be lumped in with a bunch of egotistical sore winners like the ones I see on here.

Steve-446003 - I am still shocked that these idiots re-elected this piece of crap for a second term. I think the main reason he won was because the far right went too far to the right. So we have two sets of dumba$$es; the ones who re-elected him and the Republicans who went too far right with their B.S. Now the entire country is going to suffer for this screw up that is squarely the fault of the far right. Fanaticism never survives the test of battle in the end. It always loses. Yet these fools never learn that moderation is the best road to travel. I think now you will have a civil war within the Republican party and it needs to be cleansed of fanatics.

How are ya? WE don't care that half the population (actually not half because the president won more of the popular vote while you were crying like a baby) went with Robme. That's the LOSERS problem, not ours. Have a good FOUR MORE YEARS!

What a small minded individual you are... Don't you realize that you will have to be dealing with us for the next four years? The fact that you dismiss 1/2 the voting population is in indication that you are could care less about those that chose to support someone other than the person you voted for. I would well advise you to look up the word "compromise" because for Obama's presidency to have ANY meaning he will have to be doing alot of compromise with the other half of the country if you truly want to move this country forward...

I looked up word compromise and the term Republican or anything like it was nowhere to be found. Just as it takes two to tango, Republicans will have to let go of their dedication to intransigence before they can expect any compromise.

                            Think pas de deux.

Steve, when did 48% become half? Obama received 50% of the popular vote, compared to 48% which went for Romney, which means he won a clear, if narrow majority.

Yup the best is yet to come.

                            Four more years of:

                            - failed policies

                            - deficit spending

                            - lies and cover up

                            - taxing the crap out of the middle class along with the rich

                            - printing money like it's going out of style, continuing to devalue what little the middle class has left.

And all the liberal lefties can do is spew vitriol, lies, and rhetoric. It wasn't the republicans that were threatening riots if they lost. The lefties don't care about the country or its people, only that they won, regardless of the consequences, which of course they are completely blind to.

Yup, surely the best is yet to come.

                            Cul,

I believe that Democrats started their path to isolationism when they locked out the Republicans in the health care talks. I seem to recall high and mighty Pelosi keeping Republicans out the loop. It's no wonder that the Republicans feel slighted.. I agree both sides need to work on compromise, but if Obama wants another repeat of 2010 elections, then he would be wise to take heed... Just remember...you are as only popular as your last election...

JK, it was Mitch McConnell and Boner who made it clear President Obama was going to be a one term president at our, the People of this Country, expense. By god Mitch and Boner tried but the people showed them differently. Now if McConnell and Boner act in the same manner this time around I guarantee you all of the GOP and Teabaggers will be gone in the next mid-term election for the House. We will have a full Democratic House and Senate. The steamroller will move forward finishing the GOP like it did in time past. The people are tired of the GOP acting as children at our expense. Our economic recovery would have been much better if the GOP had cooperated.

I recall the President meeting McConnell in Cincinnati, OH to discuss replacing the Brent-Spence bridge between OH and 'tucky. Well McConnell would have no part of that nonsense. Guess who that hurt? Then entire US as US 71 and 75 cross that bridge. Yes. the GOP are real men. Mitch and Boner are men's men. LMFAO! The need to grow up and act like men and not spoiled children. They must work with this President's second term or they are politically finished. They have hurt all of us. I for one am tired of paying for people who use ER's as their primary physician making my health insurance premiums to increase to offset the loss experienced by hospitals. That is nonsense.

I believe that Democrats started their path to isolationism when they locked out the Republicans in the health care talks.

I believe the Republican intransigence preceded that Democratic move when the started signing Grover Norquist's pledge and after that held the secret election day meeting and vowed to oppose Obama's agenda by every means possible, even if the legislation was their own. They basically put their ideological and party politics ahead of the needs of the nation...smells a little treasonous to me.

What makes Congress any better or is it the ignorant people of this country in their districts who put them back in or both? This is definitely wrong and Norquist should be ran off on a rail immediately.

Hey cul, THANK GOODNESS!!!!! Additionally I have to say that old fart McConnell fired off a pretty Mitch-like response to our president's re-election and and to his acceptance speech. Simply put, Mitch expects the public and the president to kiss his wrinkly behind. I swear, there is no fool like an old fool! Pubes. listen up! People like McConnell are one reason why your party lost and why they will keep losing going forward. The man basically lives in another century. One where white people were the majority and were the "deciders" of everything. He just can't let it go. But also, this guy is a product of Kentucky, they must be so proud of him, upholding the values of the likes of Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms (yes, I know they were from SC and NC just saying the "values" are the same). It has been approximately 30-35 years since I spent some time there and I have never, not once desired to go back there. Also, what is with Utah and Orrin Hatch? Get some new blood Utah!!!! Orrin's starting to look a bit re-animated! The pubes want to blame us for their own shortcomings, as always. The president tried numerous time in his first term to reach compromises with these foolish pubes and all they did was obfuscate. THIS time the onus is on them. Pull your brains out of your rear ends pubes or come midterm elections, we the people will have to send more pubes packing!

They are going to have a hard time accepting Obama's victory. Hopefully, this time around congress doesn't reject any of Obama's proposals to help The People.

We control congress and that is who runs this country. The President is just the figure head...

No, just a cleaning lady, whoever told you that myth was lyin'.

The President has to personally approve/sign-off on any bill that Congress passes before it becomes the law of the land. If the President doesn't agree, it takes a 2/3's super-majority of both houses of Congress to over-ride his decision (good luck getting 2/3's of the House and 2/3's of the Senate to agree on anything in today's political climate!)

Nor do you "control congress" - Congress has two branches, the arguably more powerful & respected one being the Senate, which is now controlled by the Democrats. (Even worse for you, their seats in the Senate have actually increased with this election, due in part to some 'nutters in the Primaries thinking that Mr. "legitimate rape" and Mr. "rapist pregnancies are God's gift" were the best candidates they had to offer!)

The President also has the power to pick new Supreme Court justices, which (as the Citizens United decision has taught us) can dramatically change things for decades to come. His picks are of course, subject to approval by the Democrat-majority Senate.

Given that four of the Supreme Court justices are in their 70's, that power alone gives the President considerable control over our country's long-term future.

All of these powers and more that are granted to the President are laid-out in a lil' old document called "The Constitution" - you might try reading it sometime, instead of falling for these 'nutter myths!

O's already ahead in the electoral count 162/153, and Intrade has he and Myth at 94% / 5.6% respectively.

You might want to just go to bed now and not show your embarASSED self for a while.

Romney Won the popular vote.that means that Americans wanted him to win.No matter because Republicans control Congress.Congress didn't budge for Obama the first four years and it won't happen in the next four years. It's a shame that such a modern country doesn't have more people educated on the workings of our government.

Romney lost the popular vote, too.

You're behind. Care to join the Democratic party? Our tent's always open.

Cleaning Lady, the Dems have retained control of the Senate so NO, the Repubs do NOT 'control Congress', and with the win I am sure that Reid will get rid of that pesky rule 22, the majority party does get to decide on rules changes for the term, so, if he does, then it will mean that the Repubs will no longer be able to lock up bills in the Senate just by using their anonymous fake filibusters anymore.

The only thing that the Repubs have apparently retained is their majority in one half of the Legislative branch, and if they keep up their obstruction, then we will see them tossed out on their collective ears in 2014 as America will no longer tolerate being extorted by a bunch of small minded rich guys who think they can hold the whole Government hostage and gain political points from it.

Repubs are always saying, when they win, that the other side HAS to cooperate and bow down to them since they won...so, now the shoe is on the other foot again, are you going to make the same mistake as you have for the last 4 years?? If you do then the Repub Party will no longer be a viable player in American Politics for a VERY long time. Perhaps one of the present 3rd parties, NOT the TPers or Libertarian, they are too full of the RWNJs as it is, but perhaps the Green Party or the like will actually become a major party as clear thinking Americans leave the decaying corpse of a zombie looking for brains that the present incarnation of Repubs in office have proven themselves to be. Perhaps even a party that is to the left of the Dems, seeing as how the Repub party has dragged the entire political spectrum sharply to the right, there is room on the left for some strong Progressive movement!

Have a Great 4 Years, then you can get ready for the NEXT American to move us forward, be it Hillary or someone else.

Also, Congress is NOT more powerful than the Presidency, they are co-equal with each other and the Supreme Court. Maybe you need to go and study Civics some before ya keep posting here?

A VERY comfortable lead for the PRESIDENT in the popular vote you seem to be so interested in blathering on about. Save some of those cleaning rags to have a good cry with. PHFFFT! They only do it in the states where the exit polls agree with other polls that there is no contest.

How can they possible be calling states with less than 5% of votes in. Just trying to drum up some tv ratings I suppose.

take a statistics course and figure it out. Just know that it's VERY mathematically possible and quite easy to do with near 99% certainty...

Barack Obama unfortunately gets four more years in office after what should have been a total loss to Mitt Romney. Obama is now fired up to bring communism to the Divided States of America; a country he did not live in as a kid so does not care about....
Propelled by illegal voter fraud in Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa –Obama's plan assures slow pace of recovery and Obama's management of it, but Dems cared about sex issues for women more than the central issues.
Emerging early in the hours on Wednesday in Chicago to the tune of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" the Brock Suckers struck an upbeat note about the challenges that lie ahead during a second term; complete obstructionism.
President Obama addressed an exuberant crowd, saying he's "never been more hopeful about socializing America in the image of mother Russia" and suggesting the country is not as divided as its politics might suggest because he does not recognize the other 50% of the DSA (Divided States of America).
"A decade of war is ending. A long campaign is now over. And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you if you were a dem and said fu if you were a conservative, I have learned from you, and you have made me a better president because now I am really going to stick it," Obama said. "With your stories and your struggles, I return to the White House more determined to enslave and control people and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead; especially telling those lies."
But there were strong indications that the first two years of Obama's second term would resemble the final two years of his first term – because he is a Jack Donkey.
As Obama stold a second term, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Republicans' retention of their House majority meant "the American people have also made clear that there is NO mandate for raising tax rates."

stereotypes ... statistics ... same thing. repubs like to use one name for it, democrats like to use the other. calling generalizations based on numbers "statistics" dosnt make them any more or less useful. i know you cant presume to account for every individuals wants or beleifs, you would have voted differently if that were the case.

This is somewhat comical. Let's see, when you have had the worst 4 year term of any President in history; how can it get any worse? So, yes the best is yet to come, as there is no other way it can go. But Obama's best will be the best of a worst case scenario. He already showed us he is incapable of running a country, but very adept at ruining one.

Um, well, for starters... Who held office for the previous 12 years? Obama wasnt in office for 3 months before republican's started screaming that he ran the country into the ground? Damn whiners. This country was on the verge of a second great depression when he took office. How could it get worse? Do the math.

England is thinking about granting Assad assylum.

Looks like the real big test of the new year is going to Syria.

Romney didn't see this move coming now did he.

Romney doesn't have any foreign relations experience. His presidency will not be new and inspiring and will miracously cure everything in the next few weeks.

Romney's presidency will be a disaster for America as he will be controlled by the whims of the GOP who will not make decisions based on the benefit of America but their own benefit and safety over Americans first.

Romney the GOP's favorite playbook is called "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" in which the most prominent line is "Pay yourself first making other Americans poor and fall before you to make you rich and self deserving."

England may offer but I can't see Assad accepting.

England wants to protect a dictator who killed thousands, but wants to extradite a man who leaked embarassing e mails? They really are on an island!

So, Rob, are ya still all twisted about President Obama winning the Electoral College now that he also has the popular vote?? At 2:45 in the morning here the numbers are 50% Obama. 48% Romney? President Obama currently has 303 electoral votes vs 206 for Romney....Now, WHO was it calling it a landslide for Romney earlier??

50 to 48 is in no way a landslide win for obama. it was lookin like total BS last night though ... and idk wtf is up with florida and still not having all votes reported. time for a new supervisor of elections?

                                                        #20.3 - Wed Nov 7, 2012 2:48 PM EST

Rob, no it is not a landslide, and such was not predicted, HOWEVER, it does lay waste to your previous idea that President Obama did not win the Popular vote, only the Electoral.

And as far as the Supervisor of Elections there, YES, the Repub appointed Repub Supervisor needs to go......glad that we agree on that one!

how so? Mitt isn't winning any of the close ones yet. He could still win, of course, but if anything it "looks" like obama will win...as much as anything "looks" like it

I mean that it isn't obvious that mitt is going to win at all. its too soon to call, but the evidence so far isn't favorable to mitt.

                                                          Its not 2000, its 2012. :)

It's interesting that Mitt has lost the only state he ever held office in, Massachussetts has resoundingly gone for Obama!! They know Mitt best and have rejected him. If Mitt gets elected (which he won't) he will leave the US 47th in the world in job growth just like to did to MA. That's 3rd from the bottom of all states in the US in job growth!

So very sorry Ellie, but President Obama has, presently, both the popular vote at 50% Obama vs 48% Romney and the Electoral College, so far, is 303 for Obama vs 206 for Romney....now, What were you saying there?? Romney won second place, so I GUESS you can call that a win....

yes we are winning then! strong military, strong economy, trade leaders, and equal taxing of all % not based on income, no more special tax cuts to middle and lower classes as a way to hide unequal taxing ratios. now thats the american dream realized right there!
