vote: your vote is worth as much as that of Koch Bros.
FORWARD...
Use FACT-CHECK & critical thinking... not the opinion of Limbaugh, Norquist, Trump,Hannity or Rove.
...nor that of Dowd, Matthews, Maddow, or Stewart.
I voted today for the 10th time in my life and still feel as if my vote does not count. You see, I live in the darkest RED STATE in the country, TEXAS. Voting as a Democrat seems futile when you know the state is going for Romney. I know, I know... there are other candidates in other positions, but believe me the state bleeds red every election.
But I voted because now... I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BITCH!
I support changing the system to a popular vote... where every vote COUNTS!
My thoughts exactly, However, it seems to work out great for the folks in power. If and when the electoral college is eliminated, I wouldnt miss a chance to make my vice heard. I live in illinois, so at least i know that the guy i would vote for will at least win. Sorry for your situation 3score&4. I feel your frustration. If the electoral college was eliminated the whole entire game would change.
Absolutely my thoughts too, Popular vote would change everything. It would also be nice to have more referendum voting in this world, More power to the people, However, us people are not to be trusted to make the right decisions for ourselves, Thats why we have to vote for peole to represent us, Hoping that we picked the right person to make decisions that benefit us. Not big business.
Finally! Election day! The stock market is booming today! My Cayman accounts are just over flowing with gains. Ah the smell of victory is so sweet. I know that the voter suppression goals will be achieved and finally we’ll get our country back.
To Romney/Ryan,
I can’t tell you how excited I am that the two of you will be running this country soon. We’ve been knocked down and we have not performed to our potential. There is so much more we can do in this country and I know with your leadership we’ll become once again the greatest nation in the world. I want to be the first to congratulate you on your victory. I’d like to suggest a few things that I’d like to see within the 1st 100 days you’re in office.
1. I want to see my capital gains tax rate reduced if not eliminated.
2. I want to see the corporate tax rate reduced to 20 – 21%. I figure if we get rid of welfare programs and Agencies like FEMA we can meet that rate. I need you to come through on that so that I can start expanding my new factories in Taiwan. The workers there are already complaining that the cots are not plush enough and they want feather pillow cases so I got to pay for that to keep their productivity up. I don’t need a riot on my hands like what we saw from the Apple factory.
3. Please preserve and protect the existing business relocation deductions for companies that move business overseas.
4. REPEAL Obamacare! I have my 2013 revenue corporate earning projections based on the savings I’ll be making by dropping crazy benefits like healthcare to my US workers. These folks can hit the ER if their sick.
5. I want you to please make sure that we do voucherize Medicare and restore the old prices of prescription medicine to seniors so that we can get rid of some them. I mean we know what a drag they are to the economy..Always walking around at the local malls then falling asleep on the bench in front of JC Penny’s. It’s embarrassing.
6. When seniors receive their allotted amount of money for their health care they should receive a complimentary copy of P-90X with their life alert necklace.
7. Please install a Supreme Court Justice that will overturn Roe V Wade. I want to make sure men can control what women do and don’t do as a result of passions from the bedroom. This will restore core biblical principles of male authority in the house hold.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Blue horse shoe loves Romney/Ryan. Make these 7 things happen so we can restore our core conservative beliefs and save this country from the sins of the past 4 years. If these 7 requests can be made then these are going to be great times for the “haves”. I’m already very privileged and prosperous and with your help we can protect my wealth and ensure that none of those leaching 47 percenters get their grubby hands of what is mine. I can say congrats now instead of tomorrow cuss we know how this thing is going to end…I just think it’s funny that people really think their vote will count – wink wink future President.
Go Mitt Romney/Ryan 2012
So did I, I wrote in Ron Paul. I feel your pain, but you have to realize Texas will always be red, if you can't handle that maybe you should consider moving?
Time for Romney to start writing that losing speech!!!!!
Happy happy happy .........................
Whoever you vote for please VOTE! The race is really close on either side and this could be the difference between recovery and the ruin of country and our rights, so LADIES this election will affect us the most. Get out there and vote! Stand your ground and do not let long line or obnoxious people sway you!
When this country drops the electoral college, That is when i vote. I live in illinois and i know that Obama will win all the electoral votes in this state. Who ever i vote for it will not matter, Obama will win. So instead of wasting gas and time to get to a polling place il just go to work and watch Obama win. Not that id vote for romney, that guy is a moron who i strongly believe has an agenda to destroy the middle class. Id rathr have a president who doesnt have a clue, but is not out to destroy me. There was a time in history when the electoral college was necessary to even out the odds for some of the southern states and boondocks to have a voice as strong as the largely populated northern cities.
Vote ONLY if you have checked out the candidates, read their campaign promises, reviewed their past promises & have clearly stated your own views & how they correspond with the person(s) you are voting for today.
Too many people vote Democrat, Republican or whatever without the slightest idea they do not even share a common belief......
Wrong message. More people need to vote. It is pathetic that we have such low voter turn out. We need to be making it much easier and more convenient to vote in this country. We should have a four day election Saturday to Tuesday and twice as many early voting and election day(s) polling locations. The operation of these locations should be written into each state Constitution and have a no-change clause without a bill to amend the amendment in the state Congress. No one person should have any power over how and when polling is conducted.
We have seen way too many Sec. of State Republicans trying to suppress the vote by closing down early voting places and causing other general mischief this cycle and I think once all is said and done the gravity of the situation will become apparent.
What gets me is, in some places, early voting options have been available for weeks, and yet, people wait until the last second to run down to the polls, and a lot of them will be waiting in long lines.
There are 14 states with "election day only" voting, and a good number of them were in the path of Sandy. Hopefully, some of those states will wise up and realize that it's in their best interest not to force everyone to vote in a narrow 12-16 hour window.
@Steve - vote "ONLY" if you've done all that? So only those who have done exhaustive research get to vote? I'd like a fully informed electorate too, but would rather everyone make an effort even if they have just the faintest idea of who/what gets their vote. The normal turnout in this country is very low - shockingly so, but also maybe not surprising given the campaign saturation and resulting voter fatigue" - and telling people they have to know things inside and out before heading to the polls is not going to make that percentage bigger. Not too many people have the time to do such in-depth research (previous campaign promises can be hard to find if someone isn't from your state or hasn't run for the same office before). Let's encourage higher voter turnout first while trying to figure out how to make it easier for people to cast an informed vote
I agree strongly with Steve, Educate yourself before you vote, take the time to know everything you can about the candidates and the issues that are important to you. Or just do as i do, and not give a @!$%# until the electoral college is eliminated, I wouldnt miss one chance to make my voice heard
simply,
If we eliminate the EC then voting restrictions have to be reduced and we must expand election day from one day to several. On top of that we need to protect the election process from sec. of states trying to manipulate the outcomes of elections by placing constitutional amendments in each state constitution protecting the regulations and operations of elections.
The EC is in place to protect against someone stealing a vote through a national movement to depress voting. It also keeps states that have more population from having more say in the process than states with almost no population. There still is an issue with that even with the EC but it is much less.
That last several weeks must have taken their toll; Big Bird ain't looking so hot.
"Memes and squirrels aside, Election Day is no joke, especially for those on the East *>?>Cast<?<* who are fighting the after effects of Sandy just to cast their votes. "
Welcome to the web.
Big Bird is supposed to be about 6 years old--he's not eligible to vote.
(Yeah, I know how long Sesame Street's been around--I was there when it was just new, back when Cookie Monster was introduced as "The Beautiful Blue Sky Monster." But for aging the characters, no. He's about 6, Elmo's about 4, and Bert is still mad about his buddy Osama getting killed. http://67.19.222.106/rumors/images/bert.jpg )
Big Bird must be a Democrat....... otherwise he'd know he's not eligible to vote....
non-partisan Independent
"I am" big bird, and I voted yesterday .......
Adults going to the polls dressed as Big Bird? That's pathetic.
A not so subtle reminder of another one of the GOP's "NO's" ...there were so many.
riiiight...it's so much better to throw a temper tantrum and drive america to the brink cuz you refuse to support the president based on...what? take your pick, but the truth is that obama was sabotaged every step of the way for four years, and when he wins you fundamentalist conservatives will reap what you've sown.
It has been so humorous watching the voting mishaps across the country. Here in OREGON with Vote-by-Mail, as long as your signature on the ballot matches the signature on your registration card, there are NO PROBLEMS! You can register by MANY optional ways. All Post Offices have a display of Voter Registrations available to ANYONE.
The county mails you the Voters Guide about a month before election day. You get your ballot about two weeks later. Vote at your leisure at your own home. No lines, no machines to malfunction, no watchers and no exit polls! Either mail it or save the stamp and drop it in a Ballot Collection box located all over your specific County, often the closest is at your own Library.
There was a report recently of a temp worker at one county marking the names of Republican candidates on ballots that belong to others. She was caught and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Serves her right, THROW THE BOOK AT HER! I'm not surprised it was a TEApublican trying to screw with someone else's ballot!
To NOT have vote-by-mail is One Foolish Idea!
Ah for the good old days before early voting, vote by email, snail mail and all the other crap. We had higher voter turnout then and the system worked.
Now, with all the various schemes, the turnout is getting smaller and smaller. The o es who intend to vote early or by mail or email or whatever but never seem to take the time to do it. Then they go to the polling place, see the line, turn around and not vote but bitch their asses off.
If you don't vote, don't bitch. You have absolutely no voice in our government, at any level. Period.
As for me I voted early today, after I took my significant other in for her Chemo. She also voted even though she was sick as a dog. We voted and we can bitch.
So, if you're one of the idiots that don't vote, get the hell out of my country. You have no business being here.
And if this gives you an atomic wedgie along with a wet willie, well I just don't give a rats ass. You just don't belong in the same country as I do
hey, don't matter if others voted or not, no american has the right to suppress another american's right to their opinion.
How can a country that put a human on the moon and vehicle on Mars be so so incompetent when it comes to organizing voting systems free of political interference and dumb dumb dumb organization ... just wondering from north of the border.
One word.....REPUBLICANS.
election shenanigans will be a fixture of american politics until the justice department starts sending people and their co-conspirators to prison for a long time. after the election, nobody cares. this needs to stop. the FBI and state police must make enforcing election laws a very high priority. there needs to be a zero tolerance for voter intimidation, if you make a voter lose his/her vote, you must go to think about it in a cage for a decade or so. no exceptions. send karl rove first.
I Respond, was that you?
come on abama
GoBama!
4 more years
we need you for 5 more years you are doing a very good job helping people that does not have enough money to make it. THANK YOU
ROBERT CHASE CAMBRIDGE OHIO
I thought they had decided several elections ago that the networks could not do all the projecting stuff. The people on the west coast were irritated because it seemed like there was no point in them voting since it had supposedly already been decided. What happened to that? What it a law or just a rule agreed-upon that election?
REPUBLICANS, ARE YOU LISTENING??
OBAMA HAS WON...THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN...
Now stop sabotaging America and do what we the people have said!
