In mad dash, candidates seek every vote

Carolyn Kaster / AP

President Obama spoke Sunday morning at a campaign event in Concord, N.H.

Updated 1:30 a.m. ET With the hours quickly running out before voters render their verdict, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney campaigned Sunday night in Pennsylvania, an eleventh-hour foray into a state that no GOP nominee has won since 1988.

Speaking to a chilled crowd in in Bucks County, a county which President Barack Obama carried in 2008 with 54 percent of the vote, Romney said, “We’re only two days away from a fresh start. Two days away from the first day of a new beginning.”

As he has for several stops in the last two days, Romney alluded at his Bucks County event to Obama’s comment on Friday that “voting’s the best revenge,” by saying, “In his closing argument, this is last week, President Obama asked his supporters to vote for revenge. For revenge. Instead, I ask the American people to vote for love of country."

A new NBC poll should give both presidential campaigns reason to hope. Obama comes in at 48 percent; Romney at 47 percent. Taking Sandy into account, 80 percent in the Northeast said they approved of the president's handling of Superstorm Sandy. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

He added, “He’s hoping we’ll settle. Americans don’t settle. We build, we aspire, we dream, we listen to that voice which says ‘we can do better’!”

Romney suggested to the crowd that they “reach across the street to that neighbor with the other guy’s yard sign. And we’ll reach across the aisle in Washington to people of good faith in the other party.”

In a sign of hope for Romney, Obama’s once-wide lead in the state appears to be slipping.

A new Allentown Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll Sunday showed Obama only 3 percentage points ahead of Romney, 49 percent to 46 percent. Another recent Pennsylvania survey, the Franklin & Marshall College poll, had Romney trailing Obama by only 4 percentage points among likely voters.

A Romney victory in the Keystone state, which has 20 electoral votes, would be one of the campaign’s biggest surprises.

Asked by a reporter Sunday whether it was a little too late for Romney to invest time campaigning in Pennsylvania, Romney senior advisor Kevin Madden said, "No, because this is one of those states that came into view right after the first debate. And as a result it just presented a great opportunity…. And here you are with an incumbent president under 50 (percent in polling). We're essentially tied. We're over-performing in many of these critical areas of the state, like the Philadelphia suburbs, areas like Scranton, southwest Pennsylvania. So we see it as a great opportunity and traveling there today we think can help make a difference. And this is actually the perfect time given that you're 48 hours from people making a decision, given that that they don't have early voting there.”

In addition to his Pennsylvania stop, Romney campaigned in Virginia, Florida, Des Moines, Iowa and Cleveland, Ohio.

Mitt Romney, striking a hopeful tone in the final days of the 2012 race, returned to Iowa, the state that launched his campaign.

After campaigning with former president Bill Clinton in New Hampshire Sunday morning, Obama touched down in Florida Sunday afternoon, then headed to Ohio for an evening rally, then to Colorado for a late appearance.

Romney reached out Sunday for the votes of independents who may be disenchanted with Obama, telling a crowd in Cleveland, “He promised to do so very much, but frankly he fell so very short.  He promised to be a post-partisan president, but he’s been most partisan, he’s been divisive, blaming, attacking, dividing.  And by the way, it’s not only Republicans that he refused to listen too, he also refused to listen to independent voices.”

Later in his speech Romney added another pitch to independents in Ohio: “Now so many of you look at the big debates in this country, and you don’t look at them as a Republican or as a Democrat, but first as an American….  You hoped that President Obama would live up to his promise to bring people together to solve big problems, but he hasn’t.  And I will.”

Two hours earlier, only eight miles away from the Romney event, Vice President Joe Biden campaigned in Lakewood, Ohio, accusing Romney and his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin of playing "a con game" in the waning days of the campaign. "They're running away from what they believe."

He appealed to Democrats to get out the vote in the state that decided the 2004 election and whose 18 electoral votes might well decide the election: “We need you Ohio. We need you. We win Ohio, we win this election.”

President Obama is calling on his supporters and surrogates in the final two days before Election Day. His focus remains on Ohio, which offers 18 electoral votes. NBC's Kristen Welker reports.

In a NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released Saturday, Romney was trailing Obama in Ohio 51 percent to 45 percent among likely voters, including those who were undecided yet leaning toward a candidate and those who voted early. The survey found that 3 percent were undecided.

Ryan was also campaigning Sunday in Ohio with a stop in Mansfield. As his first event Sunday Ryan, dressed in a Green Bay Packers jacket, arrived at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisc., to attend a tailgate party. Green Bay has ranked among the nation’s top presidential campaign TV ad media markets in recent weeks.

Meanwhile Obama opened his day by rallying Democrats in the small but vital battleground of New Hampshire which has only four electoral votes of the 270 needed to win the presidency. George W. Bush carried the state in 2000 but Democrat John Kerry won it in 2004 and Obama won it in 2008.

“Just as we did when Bill Clinton was president, we gotta ask the wealthiest to pay a little bit more so we can reduce the deficit and still invest in the things we need to grow,” Obama told a crowd in Concord, N.H.

The president told the crowd that on Saturday night he had consulted with his campaign advisers.

“I looked at David Plouffe, some of you know he’s my big campaign poo-bah smart guy. But Plouffe and I looked at each other and we said, ‘You know what. We’re no longer relevant. We’re props. Because what’s happened is that now the campaign falls on these 25-year old kids who are out there knocking on doors, making phone calls, and then we realized, you know, pretty soon after they do their jobs then they’re not relevant either because it’s now up to you.”

Romney will hold his final rally of the campaign Monday night in Manchester, N.H., underscoring again the significance of its four electoral votes.

In his first event Sunday in Des Moines, Iowa, Romney reminded his supporters how vital Iowa is to his campaign strategy: “I need Iowa – I need Iowa so we can win the White House and take back America, keep it strong, make sure we always remain the hope of the earth. I’m counting on you. Will you get the job done?”

A Des Moines Register Iowa poll released Sunday showed Romney trailing Obama 47 percent to 42 percent.

The same can be said of the Presidency since President Obama is one of the most divisive, partisan, political hacks of all time. No leadership, no ability to compromise, and now runs a campaign on "revenge through your vote". Revenge of what...the inept who have been in Congress to long or an inept President who has overstayed his welcome by four years already? Revenge against those who believe in the freedoms afforded by the AMERICANS: Obama called REVENGE against those who didn't fall in line with his demands!! PRESIDENTIAL????

From an earlier blogger: Revenge against those who believe in paying the bills and not running record deficits? Revenge against those who believe in budgets? Revenge against those who believe in legal government through Congressional actions not "executive order"? Revenge against those who believe we have gone backwards in terms of racial division since President Obama came to the White House (supported by current research here on MS-NBC)? Revenge on those who do not by the lies? Revenge on those who believe the federal government is responsible for 12 million illegal immigrants and the associated costs to taxpayers? Revenge on those who are among the 23 million unemployed? Is that the Revenge you declare Mr. President? If so you are contemptible and pathetic...but your record already established that.

Trickle up poverty’
Is on the way.
If King Obama,
Gets his way.

Take from the rich,
Give to the poor.
We know for sure,
It doesn’t work any more.

Bring the rich down,
Is not the way.
For Obama and team,
Upon this day.

Lift the poor up,
One rung at a time.
With education and training,
It works just fine.

God blessed this great land,
Many moons ago.
But Obama’s plans,
Are not the way to go.

This just in.

There are five reasons your vote will be irrational. #1 you are a Democrat, #2 you are a Republican, #3 you are an Independent, #4 you are a Socialist, #5 you are a Green Party supporter, just kidding the reasons start with the following statements.

"Climate change, defense spending, the economy: People may claim they base their political opinions solely on issues like these, but social scientists would beg to differ. Our voting habits are surprisingly irrational, and seemingly irrelevant factors can influence how, and whether, we vote."

****FINALLY, IT HAS BEEN FIGURED OUT***

.

HOW ROMNEY MANAGED TO PAY NO FED TAXES FOR 12+ YEARS - LEGALLY . . .

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/04/1155381/-Breaking-Romney-Paid-Zero-Taxes-From-1996-To-2009."

.

Using a tax shelter called a CRUT (charitable remainder unitrust) that was held by the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), Mitt Romney was able to pay zero taxes (legally) every single year from 1996 to 2009. Why did he stop in 2009? Because he would make public his 2010 tax return, that is why. This tax loophole was killed by Congress in 1997. However those including Romney that were already using it were allowed to continue it. The way it works, is that Romney makes a "charitable" contribution to the Church of Latter Day Saints and it goes into a trust. Since the trust is held by the church, the money is tax deferred. Any capital gains, are non taxed because of the charities status. Like an annuity, the donor gets a charitable tax deduction and an stream of cash payments. When Romney dies, the church accepts full ownership..

Bloomsberg's attorneys estimate as the Romneys have received these payments, the money that will potentially be left for charity has declined from at least $750,000 in 2001 to $421,203 at the end of 2011.....Romney has refused to answer any thing on this topic. His campaign puts out that it was all legal....Legal perhaps. Ethical for the president of the United States? Well, only if you want a crook running the country.... Imagine! Legally stealing from your church!.".DISGUSTING..UN-AMERICAN..VOTE: O & JOE!

And as we speak Romneys vulture business Bain Capitol which he is still a huge shareholder is dismantling and shipping American jobs from a profitable U.S. company(Sensata) to China. Romney is the most ruthless and despicable type of business man in our country and the right wants him to be our president. I hope all you conservatives are willing to move to China if you still want your job.

On the day before an election that's supposed to hinge on jobs, taxes and the middle class, Bain Capital, the company Mitt Romney founded, will close the doors of a factory in Freeport, Illinois, and ship 170 good, high-tech jobs to China.

The employees of Sensata Technologies were forced to train their Chinese replacements, and the American flag that long flew over the factory was reportedly removed while the Chinese engineers were visiting the site. A group of workers have set up camp across from the factory -- calling it “Bainport” -- and some supporters have tried to block the trucks hauling equipment out of the plant. According to Dave Johnson, there have been several arrests.

Sensata workers have asked to meet with Mitt Romney and hoped to enlist his help keeping their jobs in the United States, but he has refused, instead remaining on the campaign trail where he speaks often about “getting tough” with China.

The most important part of the story is that Sensata Technologies is profitable operating in Illinois. Net income last year was $355 million, up 16 percent from 2010. The company reported total revenues of $1.8 billion in 2011, up almost 19 percent from the year before. According to a company financial statement, “both 2011 net revenue and adjusted net income represent record levels for the company.”

So this has nothing to do with “making hard choices” in the process of turning around a failing business, which is how the Romney campaign describes Bain's corporate raiding. Bain's partners are looking for a modest boost in profits by locating the plant closer to the booming Asian automotive market (Sensata makes high-tech automotive parts). They'll get a small tax break for relocating the plant – the one Mitt Romney insisted did not exist during the first debate – and possibly defer taxes on some of the income the company generates.

This is done by many millionaires. I had a great Aunt that set one of these up. The money or stock given to the charitable organization is a charitable deduction and fully permissible. Depending upon the circumstances the resulting annuity is either paritally or wholly tax free.

What Mitt received from this fund may be tax free, but the rest of his money is in a blind trust, which he pays taxes on

I.E. Mitt has paid taxes all those years on everything except the portion he donated to his church that is sent to him as an annuity.

Saying Mitt paid no taxes IS A LIE

Dating back to the 1960's when Romney under the veil of being a Mormon minister ran to France to avoid the draft, he's has been unethical. With the exposure of the enormous number of lies that Romney and Ryan have told, it is ming boggling that any "average" American would even contemplate voting for these 2 Fascists. Romney and Ryan have offered the people nothing. They have refused to reveal the details of their disasterous and "secret" plans for our citizens. Yet, we have gullible and stupid Americans who by voting for these 2 liers are willing to "buy a pig in a sack."

However, here is a "peek" at the kind of vice president that Ryan wants to be

        http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/04/us/politics/paul-ryan-is-said-to-be-planning-an-active-role.html?pagewanted=all

Yes, Ryan wants to be like Cheney....a return to failure and the past.

Vote for Obama/Biden and a Straight Democratic Ticket!

AMERICANS: Obama called REVENGE against those who didn't fall in line with his demands!! PRESIDENTIAL????

President Obama is one of the most divisive, partisan, political hacks of all time. No leadership, no ability to compromise, and now runs a campaign on "revenge through your vote". Revenge of what...the inept who have been in Congress to long or an inept President who has overstayed his welcome by four years already? Revenge against those who believe in paying the bills and not running record deficits?

Now Romney is trying to get Pennsylvania votes. He has lied so much how can anyone know the truth. His voting record is so bad on gun control that he is the last person I would vote for to protect my guns.

Anyone voting for Romney/Ryan you are voting for a pig in a poke. You have no idea what your voting for. The country is moving in the right direction under Obama, lets no let the wealthy take it over and put us into war. Let us not lose our Social Security and vouchers for medicare. Stop Romney/Ryan in their tracks.

Your latching onto the "revenge" word taken out of context is indicative of Romney's failing campaign.

But I agree in that "justice" might have been a better word to use.

I'm good with either word. Sometimes, they're the same thing.

Using the word "REVENGE" is pretty cut and dry and that it was focused on the Congress and all those in the USA that voted them into office. All citizens should be represented by the President of the United States of America. The guy has zero class.

Basic manners would be: "Don't boo. I am going to work with the Congress and find compromise that helps all citizens of the US." But no, his true soul is on display. REVENGE!

NBC is so biased for Obama that no words exist to describe the situation - and all done with a "straight face."

NBC shows "wide shots" of Obama rally crowds and "tight shots" of Romney rally crowds.

NBC has David Gregory mouth off about Obama demonstrating "Leadership" over Hurricane Sandy. Obama's FIRST "leadership" move was to "fly to Florida" as trouble approached. Then someone on his staff "woke up" and the "leader" actually listened and returned to Washington. This must have stunned business executives who think Obama is DEAF. Obama's next move was to "do his job and make sure FEMA was doing its job.

Lester Holt then turned to established liar and Obama cheerleader Andrea Mitchell for further comments about the Presidential Race.

Next Lester Holt turned to the reporter who is suspected of favoring Romney - but he/she could neither be seen nor heard.

What I cannot believe is that, with all the mainstream press assistance Obama receives in inflencing voters (ABC and CBS are no better), Obama is barely leading (if leading at all) in Presidential Polls. One would think that, by now, the public would have been brainwashed into believing Obama IS the best thing since apple pie and ice cream. I guess ABC, CBS, and NBC's only problem is that some people can still "see and think."

What motivates ABC, CBS, and NBC to leanso far Left totally escapes me. Truth be told, the housing mess and energy mess can be laid primarily at the feet of Democrats, with plenty of help from Republicans.

Last election, these comments were 70 to 80% for Obama. He didn't exactly win by a landslide. This election the comments are more like 90% against Obama, and (something I didn't see in the last election) only around 60 to maybe 70% for Romney (there are those who openly don't like either, or the fact our government
doesn't work. Kudos for waking up to reality folks). Also, a month ago you wouldn't have read an article that places Romney even close to Obama in the race. I think the handwriting is on the wall, especially when the liberal press finally begins admitting their star candidate isn't looking like a winner.

Nate is giving you numbers on polls that are ignoring what is going on in the ground, absentee ballots and early vote. Although Romney is only ahead in Colorado, he has more than closed the McCain loss amounts in all swing states except Nevada and Iowa.

The Absentee & Early vote in all the swing states show Democrats down and republicans up. This still is not reflected in the Polling voter mix which has consistently polled generous 2008 mixes and numbers even more favorable than 2008 for democrats.

With the current turnout rates, this is 2010 or 2004 in turnout which was dominated by the republicans.

Jerry, Romney is much, much better than Obama. I lean libertarian, I am for social freedoms and economic freedoms, and I cannot stand the stale old Republicans who vote for more spending as usual and then grandstand over abortion. I really believe that Romney will not be another Bush, not even close. I think he will be much more rational. Of course, if you are against social and economic freedoms, then maybe he is not your candidate, but if you are concerned about results and the economy, I think you will be much better off if Romney is in. Obama has already failed, and he is not offering to change course, so he is not a good choice.

branxoz, you should vote your self-interest. Even if you don't trust them, and really, who trusts any politician when it comes right down to it, you have to ask yourself whose policies will be better for the economy, because then you will have better, more interesting job/career opportunities and make more money in whatever job you are in. Obama's policies have caused structural economic problems, so if he is fired from office and someone else is in, that will reverse. I for one am looking forward to the day when I don't have to game the system so I can stay ahead of the layoff curve. It's not happening under Obama.

Btranx, When confronted with a dilemma choose rationally. Romney and the GOP take the cafeteria approach to science- pick and choose what you want to believe. Liberals believe in and accept the scientific method. If you do also, the choice is clear. If you don't accept science, you ought to vote for Romney. Ket, your logic is obviously faulty- if you believe there are structural economic problems, just firing someone would not cause that to reverse. Romney has offered nothing. The country is still recovering from the Bush economic crash.

Good for you man! I post a whole lot of bad things about Obama and liberals but in the end I can't say Romney is the answer.

I kinda feel the same way.... But i'm going with Obama this year because he has delivered (at least in part of what he promised 4 years ago) I think he delivered us what he could during his 4 year term as best he could.... And Obama is a self made man too (his rich daddy didn't give him his money).... And hes not a White Morman Republican lying sack of Sh@....

I think this election is a joke against a man who has tried his best to perform for us here in this country....

If we cannot encourage businesses to return to the USA then employment will not rise, meaning higher taxes for those still holding a job.....get ready for increased healthcare costs in january....mine has already gone up $100 and I have yet to use it once since getting it....am on no meds and have no medical conditions....and it's set (nationwide) to go up in january to help fund Obamacare!

If he wins, we are all in a deep state of despair.

So if president you would deny working moms all the programs which they need to get by (because they sure ain't getting rich) and what about the disabled and poor.... Well if ya need that medical coverage in the future ya won't bitch so much....

They estimate that 30,000 people died in libya last year in the wars and you expect no American casualties.... Death tolls are for 2011 I beleive.... And what you have there (in the way of fighting) is good people fighting people who what to marry 12 year old girls, not let them have an education and keep them so poor that they have no hopes for a future (thats reality)....

Hey you could move to Japan.... The average yearly income there is $484,000.... Then maybe you won't complain so much....

Look people, Romney/Ryan really don't care about you people. They care about the rich and their lifestyle. So if you vote for them, they will be taking from you to give to their kind. And you are not one of their kind. So don't complain if they win and you are taxed more, or your children go off to fight another war, or you lost your social security, or your medicare turns into vouchers that run out. Just remember you voted for them.

That's what I have missed from the GOP & Romney pictures of the mass rallies, no minorities. If its true that the fastest growing voting blocks are Hispanics and Asians, then the GOP still are practicing exclusion not inclusions. Look at Obama's rally, everybody is represented, white, African-Americans, Hispanic, Asians, young, old, women and men, sitting, standing and cheering side-by-side. My father a Greek immigrant always taught us, his children that all are created equal and that we should never judge. He and we except for a smidgen of family votes Democrats, because they have always been there for their fellow American. Here's to you Patera, you would be proud to have Obama as your President and it will only get better when Hillary runs.

After flip flopping over 100 times, I've finally settled on Romney, and although I could change my mind in the voting booth, I doubt that I will. As an ex-democrat turned independent, I warn the democrats that this democratic political party is not your friend. It's a phony. Just look what it's done:

                          1) It's looted social security to the tune of $200 billion over the last 2 years with its 2% payroll tax credits. That's going to affect future social security recipients, who might end up getting only 75% or 80% of what they were promised if this looting, called a tax credit, continues much longer.

                          2) It's cut federal extended unemployment benefits down from 53 weeks to no more than 47 weeks, and in most cases, unless your state has over 9% unemployment, your federal extended benefits will be cut to 37 weeks.

                          3) It has continued to engage foreign countries in free trade agreements, like South Korea and one or more countries in South America, even though it knows these free trade agreements send jobs overseas.

                          4) It has continued Bush's war in Afghanistan, which is worse than ever since we now have the very people we're training shooting us, when Obama could end it tomorrow with no difference than what will be in 2014, which is when he said he'd end it

                          5) The democrats, in particular Obama, won't even mention the words "New Deal", which was the hiring of the unemployed by FDR back in the great depression to end the country's unemployment crisis, because as FDR said, "I cannot depend upon the patriotism of American businessmen to hire their fellow unemployed Americans.", and

                          6) The almighty Dali Bama lied about giving the American people the public option, which would have been government health insurance, probably half the cost of a similar private policy, and instead gave you a 2,700 page monstrosity called Obamacare. About the only thing you can say good about Obamacare is that it's better than nothing, but it's nowhere near as good as government health insurance would have been.

To you democrats - don't wait until you're an old man like me - 67 years old - to wake up to the fact that the democratic party is stabbing you in the back while it claims to be your friend.

Second of all, the annuity is only part of his income which is in a blind trust. Mitt paid every year on the capital gains and dividends from the distributions form his investments and his Bain retirement plan which is structured similar to an ESOP (Employer Stock Option Plan - which is a retirement plan).

You are repeating a twisted version of what is going on.

Warthog213 (By dollars paid, the U.S. Social Security program is the largest government program in the world and the single greatest expenditure in the federal budget, with 20.8% for Social Security, compared to 20.5% for discretionary defense and 20.1% for Medicare/Medicaid)

                            2) It's cut federal extended unemployment benefits down from 53 weeks to no more than 47 weeks, and in most cases, unless your state has over 9% unemployment, your federal extended benefits will be cut to 37 weeks.

Warthog213 (makes perfect sense to me) given you can go anywhere and work and still other benifits such as welfare, medicaid and such to make up the differences in your wages.... (if you have kids)

                            3) It has continued to engage foreign countries in free trade agreements, like South Korea and one or more countries in South America, even though it knows these free trade agreements send jobs overseas.

Warthog213 (free trade agreements establish relations with other countries) through taxes and other programs designed to help move products.... Which in turn helps everyone world wide....

Obama is cracking down on this with a quickness, due to American jobs going overseas so rich people can get get richer....

                            4) It has continued Bush's war in Afghanistan, which is worse than ever since we now have the very people we're training shooting us, when Obama could end it tomorrow with no difference than what will be in 2014, which is when he said he'd end it

warthog213 The decade-long War in Afghanistan (2001- present) has caused the deaths of thousands of Afghan civilians directly from insurgent and foreign military action, as well as the deaths of possibly tens of thousands of Afghan civilians indirectly as a consequence of displacement, starvation, disease, exposure, lack of medical treatment, crime and lawlessness resulting from the war.

And your surprized people are revolting....

                            5) The democrats, in particular Obama, won't even mention the words "New Deal", which was the hiring of the unemployed by FDR back in the great depression to end the country's unemployment crisis, because as FDR said, "I cannot depend upon the patriotism of American businessmen to hire their fellow unemployed Americans.", and

warthog213 So vote Republican because they see fit to send Americans jobs overseas where the average yearly wage is 1/3 of the American yearly wage or less and they don't face environmental issues they would face here.... Sometimes things have to modified to accommodate modern technologies so they work better today....

                            6) The almighty Dali Bama lied about giving the American people the public option, which would have been government health insurance, probably half the cost of a similar private policy, and instead gave you a 2,700 page monstrosity called Obamacare. warthog213 well it takes time for things to go into effect right and to be modified to work properly....

VOTE FOR THE LIAR OF YOUR CHOICE, BUT PLEASE VOTE. if you don't vote you have no right to complain when our country goes to the illegals and bankruptcy.

Vote a straight Democrat ticket to get revenge on the Republican party that has proven they have no love for America by trying to prevent economic recovery in their attempt to make Obama a one term president.

Thanks, Arterian. But I don't think the Democrats would try to sabotage the economy if Romney wins. The ones who did that are the Republicans. It will be remembered in history. They will be known as the party that destroyed themselves by trying to destroy the other.

Let me re-word my initial statement: Vote a straight Democrat to get justice. The Republican party has proven that it has no love for America by trying to prevent economic recovery in its' attempt to make Obama a one term president.

I can't understand anyone voting for a double talking, flim-flam person, such as Romney. As an independent, I don't want another GW Bush type person in office. Regardless, whoever wins has their hands full with a useless congress, and reconstruction from the GOP/wall street financial frauds.

And your blind partisanship is why the country is in real trouble...the Democrats have done nothing to keep America out of the trash for years...since controlling both houses in the Congress on January 5th 2007 until January of 2011. No budget, no deficit reduction, no change, just monkey business as usual, and lets pass the NDAA of 2011 for good measure to put down any dissenting opinion in the future...Nice.

The dark ages were ended by people of conviction, conscience, morality, and science that accepted God as the Creator...what is your excuse for your party not making a difference? I thought so.

If Republicans would have supported even part of the Democrats job creation agenda, millions of jobs would have been created. The American Jobs Act alone would have created an additional 1.9 million jobs and reduced unemployment by a full point. If the American Jobs Act would have become law, we could have anticipated an unemployment rate falling towards 7.3%, with no other economic growth included.

Despite their best efforts to prolong this recession the economy is recovering and growing again, but this list demonstrates that House Republicans are going to do everything in their power to derail our economic recovery before the presidential election in November.

If House Republicans continue on this path they’ll get their wish, but the jobs they kill will be their own.

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude. She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican. "I am," replied the man. "How did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me." The man smiled and responded, "You must be an Obama-Democrat." "I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?" "Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it's my fault." America is tired of the Republican Party, its lies, and its delusions. Republicans subscribe to fictions instead of reality. Republican Party supporters are largely anti-intellectual and emotionally predisposed to accepting factually incorrect, unsubstantiated or even easily contradicted propaganda as truth. Republican ideologues appeal to their imbecilic base by fomenting their fears, their deep-seated racism and/or sexism, and their dogmatic religiosity to wage culture wars that were lost on the streets and in the hearts of Americans 40-50 years ago, by continuing to beat the drum for unchecked capitalism whose "job creators" have shipped jobs overseas to exploit cheaper labor for greater profits and, through risky investment schemes unleashed by deregulation, which have imperiled the health of the world's economies for the last four years. Where quotations appear below, they are marked by quotation marks, but unfortunately this blog doesn't print the Internet addresses that are the sources of the quotations. Republican sheeple have been led to believe at least a dozen lies/fictions: (1) governance by a representative democracy is itself a profound invasion of some nebulous concept of freedom or liberty, using rhetorically charged jingoes like "let's take our government back." For example, Ron Paul's argument that federal legislation is invalid unless authorized by the 10th Amendment was completely wrong. The 10th Amendment (states right's argument) doesn't enable federal legislation but rather limits it, but in practice, only in rare instances. The 10th Amendment has invalidated only two federal laws in over 70 years, and only when the law inflicted horrible burdens on the states. It was such a silly constitutional argument that it was not offered or considered by the Supreme Court when it recently upheld the Affordable Care Act; (2) the federal government is their enemy, that its workers are quasi-welfare cheats, and that employee unions are grotesque thieves of taxes paid by hard-working Americans, which is all part of a widespread campaign to reduce the federal budget because the federal income tax is a progressive system that taxes according to income earned, and the wealthy pay the lion's share of it now, which must be changed if we're going to have prosperity for all. So Republicans argue the taxes should be cut, especially taxes for “job creators,” which will create widespread prosperity for everyone. This newer version of "trickle down" has proven in practice to be pure BS: "Trickle down economics, often identified with supply side economics, represents the idea that tax cuts or other government sponsored interventions into the economy to help businesses and the wealthy will benefit poorer members of society by improving the economy as a whole. . . . "[However,] [h]istorical evidence demonstrates the United States has had some of its strongest periods of economic growth while taxes were high. [Indeed,] some of our most robust periods of growth in gross domestic product (GDP) actually occurred while taxes were very high. . . . . "If trickle down economics worked we should observe growing real median income for the population as a whole. Despite huge tax cuts the desired trickle down outcome did not come to fruition for the majority of Americans. . . . . "[T]he share of market income for every [income] quintile, except the highest quintile, declined 1979 to 2007. . . . If trickle down effects worked as proclaimed then the share of market income should be greater for each quintile in 2007 when compared to 1979, the years prior to the implementation of the Reagan and Bush era tax cuts. “It would appear to be an excellent balance for a robust capitalist system with one that desires certain levels of economic justice, rewarding job creators for their risk-taking and providing shared, albeit smaller but fairer, returns to the masses who help the job creators become successful. Unfortunately, the evidence doesn't support trickle down, supply side economics. . . . . "The Bush economic expansion had the worst wage and salary growth and total compensation growth of any postwar economic expansion. Workers also fared progressively worse the lower they were in the income distribution.
