Paul Beck, Ohio State University professor, describes the importance of winning Ohio, a battleground with a large number of electoral votes. It's a diverse state with liberals and conservatives matching a cross section of the nation.
Hurricane Sandy is barreling toward the East Coast and could deliver the presidential campaign an unpredictable, but impactful, October surprise.
It remains too early to determine precisely where Sandy will make landfall or just how severe the storm might be, but the projections for its path have it aimed toward the mid-Atlantic region, likely impacting hotly-contested battleground states.
Sandy was briefly downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm by the NHC early Saturday, but it returned to hurricane strength within a few hours.
Extensive damage, power outages, and the resulting news coverage could push the election into the background, at least in that region, and could wreak havoc on campaign plans for the final week of the race between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.
Travel schedules, television advertising buys, and voter outreach could all be impacted … and in some cases, already have been.
A Romney official said Friday that the campaign is keeping a very close eye on the storm and had already decided to cancel a planned rally on Sunday night in Virginia Beach. Vice President Joe Biden also cancelled a Virginia Beach event on Saturday, and a rally for First Lady Michelle Obama planned for Tuesday at the University of New Hampshire in Durham was also canceled, officials said Friday.
Said the Obama campaign of the change in the vice president's schedule, "This ... is being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on ensuring the safety of people who might be impacted by the storm."
It isn't yet clear whether Sandy will affect Obama’s scheduled events with former president Bill Clinton in Florida and Virginia on Monday.
Since March, the two presidential campaigns and outside groups have invested $144 million in radio and TV ads in Virginia, with $27 million spent just in the past two weeks. Virginia ranks third in the amount of presidential campaign advertising, after Ohio and Florida.
If local TV stations in Virginia interrupt their regularly scheduled programming in order to broadcast bulletins and live coverage of the storm’s impact, then a campaign ad which had been booked for a specific time on a specific station would not air.
The station would refund the money paid for the ad, but at this point in the election season, campaigns don’t want their money back -- they want their ads to run.
RELATED: Ad spending on presidential race surpasses $900 million
Of course, even if stations do run those already-booked campaign ads, thousands of Virginia homes might be without power … and millions of dollars in ad buys could be still wasted.
After the intense “derecho” storm swept through the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic region with 70-mile-per-hour winds on June 29, electricity for millions of customers was effectively knocked out.
In some areas around Washington, D.C., power was out for a week. And outages in Virginia due to Sandy could conceivably last into Election Day itself.
Voting requires polling locations which have the lights on and aren't under water, so this storm also raises the question of how election officials are preparing to ensure that balloting isn’t disrupted on Election Day.
Mitt Romney has just wrapped up what his campaign billed a major economic speech, at the heart of his closing arguments. Democratic strategist Elmendorf, Romney campaign economic adviser Vin Weber and The Economist's Greg Ip break it down.
According to Virginia State Board of Elections spokeswoman Nikki Sheridan, the board has been coordinating with the state Department of Emergency Management, the Virginia State Police, the state Department of Transportation, major utility companies, and the 134 voting registrars who administer the election across the state “to monitor the weather situation and, if necessary … act accordingly.”
The board has told local election officials that “unless conditions render the voting process unsafe” for employees and voters, registrars should keep their offices “open and to continue the in-person voting process” already underway in the state.
The final decision whether to close a general registrar’s office “will be made by local authorities or first responders after consultation with your office and electoral board,” the board said.

In a press conference Friday afternoon, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, a Romney supporter, said, “There are obviously concerns about making sure we’re ready for Election Day which will only be a week after the departure of this storm.”
He said that the president of Dominion Power, the state’s major power provider, has told him that the utility would add election locations “as a top priority for power restoration in addition to hospitals and schools and so forth, so I think that is prudent as well, but we don’t anticipate adverse election issues at this time.”
The candidates crisscross the country hitting the battleground states trying to lock up key electoral votes and Domenico demonstrates the electronic map to 270.
He said the electric utility had a “well-thought out set of priorities for what to restore” and “at this point I don’t see anything happening that would interfere with the election.”
He also said “I expect both candidates and both parties to monitor the situation and if they think they’re going to be interfering with first responder operations” to cancel their Virginia campaign events. “They’re not going to get coverage and they’re not going to get people coming out (to events) because they’re not going to stand out in the rain so they’d be smart to make alternative plans.”
Ross Goldstein, deputy administrator of the Maryland Board of Elections, said Friday, “We’re in contact with state emergency management. We’ve given utility companies a list of polling locations so that they know where our needs are.”
He added that “all of our voting equipment has battery backup,” but noted that, obviously, electricity would be needed to keep the lights on at polling locations.
As in Virginia, Maryland voters have the option of early voting, beginning in the state on Saturday, with one-to-five polling places per county.
In a conference call on Friday, elections officials in Maryland and eight other East Coast states conferred with Louisiana Commissioner of Elections Angie Rogers to find out what officials in her state have learned from coping with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and other subsequent storms.
Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler said Friday that contingency plans must be made for both before and after Election Day.
Obama campaign co-chair Kal Penn joins Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss the youth vote in the 2012 election.
“Number one, before the storm, secure the (voting) equipment, move it if necessary, get it out of harm’s way,” he said.
“Number two, get good information on where your poll workers are going to be, make sure you have their cell numbers and evacuation plans so you can get in touch with them if you’ve moved a precinct," he said.
"Then after the storm, determine if your locations are still viable and usable and if they’re not, make sure you move and consolidate precincts. We did that here in Louisiana with the big mayoral election after Katrina. As long as you have locations, power and equipment or paper ballots -- you can still have the election and go forward," he added.
Schedler said another tip for elections officials in storm-affected areas: “Make sure you have a good relationship with the National Guard in your state. Here in Louisiana we used the National Guard to set up large tents for ‘mega-sites.’ They provided us generators. And think about public restrooms, you may need to bring in some Portalets (portable toilets) when setting up as site like that. You need to anticipate just like you do in any emergency.”
He also suggested that state officials in Sandy's path urge people to vote early.
NBC News’ Garrett Haake contributed to this report.

ahh, the Creator, tired of hearing the platitudes of insincerity, and reckoning that the electorate is just not swift enough to figure out who is the best guy for the job, has placed a tropical storm in the way of those who would seek to influence an ignorant base with more lies and filth, called propaganda. the storm, called Sandy is a welcome relief as the TV will air news about the storm and forget the mind walkings of politicians who, after all can only control their greed, but not Mother Nature.
ahh what a pity man cannot learn to learn in time.
What is really sad is how all these obamazombies will use this for one of their excuses for obama being fired by the American people. Ater they blame it on Bush!!!!
Oh GREAT! We have the uncle here that watches FOX all day, and goes to fundraisers WITH DICK CHENEY AND GLEN BECK, AS ROMNEY DID yesterday in TEXAS -where else?-
The onlY DANGEROUS ZOMBIES are all of you that think Romney will get you "The American Dram" of being a "MIllionaire" like Mitt Romney. You FOOLS KEEP FORGETING THAT IF YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED AND he is rich, is because he sent all your jobs to CHINA.
Your chances of wining the lottery are a lot better. But you believe in anything, as long as it is delivered for a rich white guy in a $3000.00 dollar suit.
PFFFT!
Ever get a job from a poor person????
What a schlub!
Notice how all these obamazombies do not quote polls every other post like they were for the last 2 months? Why????
Oh Another stupid that thinks that Romney is the Guy that will "Trickle down" his wealth to him. The guy is RICH BECAUSE OF ......WHAT PRODUCT HE CREATED? oH YEAH! nothing, only speculation
DUH! You guys need a class in Economics 101, before you start posting your garbage here.
Nobody knows anything about Mitt Romney, but you blindly follow his voice, like good SHEEP that you are.
Ever been a welfare caseworker, donated to the Salvation Army or Goodwill, volunteered to help in a homeless shelter or soup kitchen?
"Brutal" fits you. Who's the schlub?
Wind Goddess Sandy comes, Mitt's campaign is out of power.
.
Note...Greek Goddesses are known to cause havoc, also disturbing a certain vulture along the way. I know the potential damages to normal people - and it's not good. Pray for those innocent people along Sandy's path.
Sandy is just a reminder that we are insignificant in the general scheme of things [of the entire universe]. With all the money in the world, Mitt can't prevent nature from showing its teeth or rearing its end. Prayers to those who are in Sandy's path.
kaybee,,,the truth is that you will see more rightwingers donateing(just compare Romney to obama and biden) to these shelters and soup kitchens as their time then the democrat side that will line up on the other side accepting the obamaspreadthewealth programs.
Even that won't help!
Those who went to class must have forgotten how to calculate GDP, because they would rather have the numbers in the negatives like 2008 instead of where they are now.
Wait a minute. You're counting Romney's donations to his cult as 'charity'? Charity for Mormons, that is all.
Notice how all these romneyzombies told us the polls were worthless and stacked but not can't get enough of them?
Funny how you libtards never associate your miniprophet dingy harry ried to that same "cult". You may not know because since you get all your news from sargent "slut" shultz and rick maddcow, it is never reported by this fake news outlet msDNC that good ol harry is a "cult" morman too. Moron!
charlie,,I never quote them but can you answer my question that I posed before? Nevermind, I can do it for you. The closer to the election, all these phoney news outlets like msDNC have to report the truth(it hurts them too), so they can try to save any credit they think they have(which is none), so you obamazombies see your coward, weak failed pathalogical LIAR in chief losing so you do not quote it anymore!!!
Please Sandy push as hard as you can!
brutaltruth, "ever get a job from a poor person?"
There it is. Another low information, poorly educated voter who has succumbed to RNC/Fox propaganda.
Obviously you haven't been schooled in economics 101. The poor and the middle class create DEMAND, which drives industry, which makes wealth. The wealthy do not create jobs, DEMAND creates jobs. Duh!!!
Wow! So early AND a Saturday for everyone to be in such a bad mood on this site!
Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!!!!!
hobbes,,then how do you explain your own democratic leader nasty piglosi and her "unemployment payments are the best boost to the economy"? But I will bet you also think that the demand for welfare and foodstamps are also a positive drive for the economy also as this pathalogical LIAR of a foodstamp president seems to!
Murphy-
I see that the Republican brainwashing on you has been successful. Get them to focus on the 1.4% of people who get a tiny welfare check so they don't focus on the corporations getting billions in corporate welfare and still not hiring. Get them to focus on the food stamp program so they don't focus on the corporations ripping them off everyday with inflated health care services so Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the like, can make billions off the backs of Americans. Get them to focus on people collecting a disability check so they don't focus on the corporations who have the monopoly on electricity and charging obscene rates to Americans. Seriously, you need to redirect yourself!
Murphy Andrew, do poor people game the system? Some do. Will Wall Street game the system? Many do, and hide much of their wealth in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes in America--you know, like Romney and his Wall Street buddies. And you think Wall Street is there for you? You think they have YOUR best interest at heart? I hold the poor person who cheats in low regard, but the rich person who cheats, like Romney, I hold in utter disdain.
The richest nation in the world and 40% of them are poor ?
You can bet your sweet a$$ GOD has shown up, maybe they'll look deeper into the corrupt world around them, maybe not.
freedom,,,1.4% gettin welfare??? Must be msDNC figures as 1 of 5 people are on welfare. After that anything you say is a LIE! Hobbe,,That evil Romney that had donated millions this year alone to chairity compared to $385 joey bite me did? Save your phoney blather and class warfare for someone else!
I don't watch the news. I find my own facts. BTW-welfare is cash assistance. Yes, 1.4%. Hardly enough to even be focusing on. If you want to talk Food Stamps the number is 14%. These are different programs which you can't lump together like the Romney campaign is trying to get you to do. For 'welfare', i.e. cash assistance, you cannot have any income. For Food Stamps you have to be below the poverty level. Well guess what! Most people on Food Stamps are working. Who are they working for? Huge Corporations like Disney World who has refused to pay their employees a living wage for decades. So while their stock holders get rich, the taxpayer gets to feed their employees. Ssshhh...the Republicans don't want you to focus on THAT part of the story! They want you to blame the person on Food Stamps when you should be DEMANDING that corporations pay a living wage and stop stealing our tax money. Again, you are misdirected, and very uninformed.
Irespond; I've never been payed by a poor person yet!
Donating to one of the wealthiest churches in the country is not charity when the church demands that "donation". It's a down-payment on eventually having your own planet. Idiot Mitt thinks he is gonna get this one.
freedom,,as you ignore the cost of obama care that will drive company after company to put full time employees on a part time status. You ignore that obama's predicted healcare would save each household $2500 but alas cost them that much as his 900 billion healthcare is up to 2.5 trillion and has not even been implemented! Close your eyes to your ill prophet and his bad policies that are bankrupring America as you have the ones that have caused the murders of a diplomat and 3 American treasure as our consolates and embassies are looted and burned. Tell me again how smart you are and how uninformed I'am.
Romney can't pay for the plan that he is proposing. It's a 5 trillion dollar experiment.
Stick what has shown to work, that has gotten the economy to grow each and every quarter since he came to office.....Obama/Biden 2012.
@kaybeetoys - "Wait a minute. You're counting Romney's donations to his cult as 'charity'? Charity for Mormons, that is all."
@Murphy Andrew - "Funny how you libtards never associate your miniprophet dingy harry ried to that same "cult". You may not know because since you get all your news from sargent "slut" shultz and rick maddcow, it is never reported by this fake news outlet msDNC that good ol harry is a "cult" morman too. Disclaimer: Before I say anything first I am not a Mormon I was raised Southern Baptist and I am NOT a Republican I was raised a Democrat. As for my politics NOW I vote for the PERSON not the PARTY. Some Democrats, some Republicans, or whomever. I only state this to make it clear that I have NO vested interest (skin in the game) regarding Bashing the Mormons. Though I seem to remember them being on the Southern Baptist "Don't Approve" list along with Catholics (and other denominations), Muslims, Hindu, etc. Ad Nauseum.
With that said please see the attached quotes and links. Say what you will about their beliefs but Mormon / LDS Charities most definitely helps a lot of people.
"In a report issued in January 2012, “Mormons in America: Certain of Their Beliefs, Uncertain of Their Place in Society,” a research team representing the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that most Mormons are regular churchgoers and that more Mormons (73 percent) believe that “working to help the poor” is “essential to being a good Mormon” than believe the same thing about “not drinking coffee and tea” (49 percent).According to a new study previewed on March 15 by an expert panel convened at Pew’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints practice what they preach about helping the needy. Led by Ram A. Cnaan, a renowned Israeli-born social-work scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, the study concludes that churchgoing Mormons “are the most pro-social members of American society.”
On average, Mormons dedicate nine times as many hours per month (nearly 36 hours) to volunteer activities than other Americans do. The comparison stands up even after one subtracts from the Mormon totals the work of young, full-time Mormon missionaries.
Mormons reliably tithe to their churches and also give about $1,200 annually “to social causes outside the church.” Even Mormons who have relatively low household incomes both tithe fully and give more of their income to assist non-Mormons in need than other Americans do." - Source: http://www.americamagazine.org/content/article.cfm?article_id=13355
"Since 1985, LDS Charities (aka Humanitarian Services) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided aid regardless of cultural or religious boundaries. Emergency assistance is provided through the Humanitarian Aid Fund, and long-term aid is provided through major initiatives such as clean water, wheelchairs, neonatal resuscitation training, vision care, immunization, food production, and a variety of local area initiatives.
Two tenets of humanitarian aid define LDS Charities: 1) One hundred percent of every dollar donated is used to help those in need without regard to race, religion, or ethnic origin, and 2) LDS Charities helps people attain self-sufficiency so they can be self-reliant long after LDS Charities departs.
In 2011, help was provided to more than 2 million people in 132 countries. Currently we are receiving donations for:

While I am NOT a Mitt Romney supporter I'm sure that as he is a leader in the Mormon Church he would be hard pressed NOT to be aware of how their monies are used.
Personally I take my hat off to the Mormon Church for their "Kindness and Charity" and say to HELL with those religions that spread violence and hate.
@Murphy, you do know that it will cost the US more money to repeal Obamacare than to keep it in place, furthermore, you know it saves 210 billion on the deficit over 10 years.
Very unlike the Republicans Medicare Part D which went unpaid for, and has cost us more money than both wars combined.
@Commonsense101,
Most churches "push" for donations. Using peer pressure or shaming is still a method of "demanding". I've heard whole sermons on the subject from Pentacostals, (Many) Baptist and a few others (even on TV). The demand starts in the Bible.
eric,,when has ANY of hussain obamas figures panned out correctly!!! Look at the 6 trillion in obamadebt, every single revision except one on employment figures have been to the negative! Obamacare tax 900 billion is now 2.5 trillion and not implemented as of yet. Over 300,00 people falling off the unemployment rolls yet he braggs about 100,000 new jobs every check and completly ignore the FACT that there are less people working now then when obama was crowned! You need over 200,000 more jobs each check just to stay up with the college and over 18 crowd but we get half that now and the "economy is up??? The only thing up is foodstamps(3 fold), welfare(2 fold), American families average income being less as more are losing their houses. Slowest growth then last year and that was slower then the year before. And while this coward weak pathalogical LIAR president lies about a video and flies off for letterman, the view and wimpy pimpy, a diplomat and 3 American treasures are slaughtered as an act of war and he refuse's to help less him and his puke administration cannot and will not inform these poor families of those lost less the American people the truth he had promised too! Just another LIE/promise broken by a weak failed leader you continue to close your eyes to!
brutaltruth
Ever get a job from a poor person????
That is the most over simplified...moronic....short sited and basically boobish comment I have ever read......Let me ask you some questions....
How rich is rich enough?
How much profit is too much profit?
How many homes can you own before it is too much?
How many cars are too many cars?
You are a freakn moron.......Look at our history....Look at our tax rate changes throughout our history......The rich have it better now than ever in the US's history....ever.........Why are you so dumb? Try to get some facts before you make stupid comments......Google makes it easy even if you are mildly retarded....
peter,,,adressing your truths,,it has been shown there are more rich democrats then republicans. Democrats(deepthroat barney franks) controlled the houseing bust and fought tooth and nail for it as the republicans tried to warn of it. The democratic party wants to own car companies, tell you what to drive and make the policies that have gasoline to double in 3 years while wasteing trillions on a "green" energy farce. Look at the last 4 years of history ya "dumb moron"! Just keep with your class, age, gender and race warfare fearmongering while you stinkin libtards quit quoteing the polls every other post because you idiots are losing it!
Murphy Andrew
Another boob.......So you have forgotten than when Obama was "crowned" as you put it that the economy was hemorrhaging 700K jobs a month? Where is your insite into this? I'm sorry you don't understand the economic climate. I'll lay out a little for you and see if you can piece it together on your own accord. I know it is hard for you right wing nuts to have common sense....Like the understanding of simple terms...Like "Supply and demand"...."devaluation of middle class wealth"........"middle class debt to income ratio" (and how that compares to debt to income ratios of the past 10 years)....."inflation" (and how that happens when you start printing money as we have....controlled inflation)........If you can put those pieces together....then you are of average intelligence.....If you cannot you are either rich and greedy or poor and stupid.....if you are the later I will take the time to write it in crayon for you.....just let me know...
Murphy
Your insite makes the world the dumber place.....Read up on "green energy" 8% fail rate.....8% ....now this is a fact.....Don't let that stand in your way.....Do you even know how many green jobs have been created? Are you so robotic you just repeat what some other moron told you? Try the facts out......your "farce" doesn't exist.....
The "poor" in this country don't have a clue to what it means to be actually poor. And the libs just foster class warfare to garner votes. Just check out the Census Bureau data about what American poor have to suffer through in America. They list such horrors as:
The list goes on and on...
The world's actual poor would kill to be poor in America.
First off I think your fact about wealth of Dems and Repugs is probably wrong.....Our richest senetor is a repug.....period and fact. But irrelevant of that true or not....This isn't an argument that is self serving unless you are a repug......Bill Gates feels a certain amount of social responsibility so does Warren.....That is the difference...You are a complete and utter moron if you do not understand that Dems (rich or not) want to raise the taxes on the rich and lower it for the middle and poor.....This once again is a fact......Repugs want to reduce the taxes on the rich and shred medicare and SS and increase military spending....This is what your future choice is in real terms.....Chalk it up however you would like.....live in delusion if you want, but when you simplify what is going on it is shifting the financial burden of the old onto the families (which the single consumer will have less buying power.....the expense doesn't actually go away....just saying)....it is WAR and it is a feudal system.....The big will get bigger and monopolize the little will not exist and we will all be dictated to....If you look at the top tax rate burden and how it was reduced and how that affected GDP....you would know that this doesn't work and how this amount of decrease is non substantial to the poor......Jack Ken. Reduced the tax rate from 91% to 70% which means the rich had 3 times their annual income that they got to keep....GDP growth was 1.9% annually......Reagan decreased the tax rate from 70% to 40% and this doubled the riches disposable income..GDP growth was good for Reagan but that was predominantly due to the borrowing and lending laws....Reagan had a middle class should borrow away mentality.....So now they are offering a 20% decrease across the board.....So does that mean the rich having 20% more will correct the economic problem?.....I just think you are boobish and you can't see reality..
peteeboy,,Bush had 72 straight months of employment growth untill the socialist lib democrats took over in his last years and you libtards wrote the bills and budgets(ya know somthing we have not seen since you libs had all 3 branches of government) and things went downhill! You blame Bush with your majorietys yet you blame republicans with only 1 branch of power and fail to take 1 ioda of responsibility for anything! I love "green energy" and feel if it is a good idea, then let the private sector take care of it and your "demand" will take it's course but do not throw taxpayer money to the presidents highest campaign bunglers and just out and out, flush it down the toilet. When it comes to you libtards, I have seen better intelligent heads on flat beer, so after your mommy is done reading this to you, take a ride with her on your vespa and get rid of another libtard down at your obamafunded abortion super clinic while you dream of your favorite poster of debbie blabbermouth shultz. Be good!!!
the GOP- the pro-rape and pro-racist party-God isnt on their side
Why is it so hard for people to have a civilized conversation here without calling names and being downright hateful? Wow.
kaybee, I donate to three organizations each month, all nonpartisan helping sick children, disaster victims and animals. I am voting Romney. My success under conservative financial principles is what has given me the ability to give, so I do. I feel pride in doing this myself and not relying on the government to tax me, then do it for me. Conservatives can do this on their own. We don't need the government to force us to do the right things......we do it because it's right.
Grazed, your a mean person and unhappy soul. God would help you if you only cared to ask.
NBC WILL NOT REPORT ON THIS BUT I WILL
Sen. John McCain, one of the leading critics of the Obama administration's handling of last month's terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, accused the Pentagon on Friday of not having enough military reinforcements in place to respond to such an attack.
"After three weeks of investigation we have concluded that there was no way that the military could have intervened because they were not ready," McCain, the Arizona Republican, told Fox News. "They were not prepared and there was no alert of any kind that would have enabled them to reach a state of readiness that they could not have intervened."
McCain's comments come as sources tell Fox News that CIA operatives twice asked for permission to help Ambassador Chris Stevens and his staff and were told to 'stand down' — while a later request for military backup was denied. Stevens and three other Americans died in the attack on Sept. 11.
A senior defense official at the Pentagon immediately pushed back against McCain's criticisms, saying his claims "would just be wrong."
The Pentagon says assets were ready but "there were never any requests to deploy assets from outside the country," another senior defense official told Fox News.
The officials, echoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's comments Thursday, said that even if military reinforcements could have gotten there in time, there was not a clear enough intelligence picture to do that.
But McCain's office defended the senator's statements.
"Based on documents provided to Senator McCain's staff by the Joint Chiefs that provide a detailed lay down and readiness status of U.S. forces ... as well as follow-up conversations with senior DOD and military officials, it is clear that there were no forces in the region on a high-enough alert status that could have arrived in Benghazi before the fight ended," a statement from the office said.
McCain has asked that these documents, and video taken from a drone flying over the diplomatic compound, be declassified. There have been no responses to that request yet.
"I find it astounding," McCain told Fox News. "I find it a lack of leadership, a lack of understanding, either before or during this attack."

So this is what your simple mind is bragging about.......Your idiot made a disaster of our economic condition......Aren't you guys all about deregulation? 08' Financial crisis? Devaluation of the middle classes equity and retirement accounts 1.6 trillion in 08'? It is kinda why the US's largest consumer has no money (the middle class)........ You are dumb....Stop being a parrot of nonsense
So Murphy from now on I will call you "El Genius"........lolz........So you are saying the last year of Bush's office and the 08' finacial crisis was caused by the Dems being in control?....And you are saying that tax cuts to industries such as oil and coal is letting the "private sector" handle it? And the governemnt should not invest in future technology and science? (you know they have been doing it repug and not for 80 years or so...man I love the internet) What exactly are you saying El Genius? Please be clear....
You can have a home and be poor Zathrose, people do that have them because security is gone, when you can lose everything at a moments notice because of job loss, healthcare, inflation and debt..Many have and will continue to end up homeless.
Once I start the big words others stop........Do you know why what I say is threatening? Because it isn't about Obama or Romney.....It is about the future....It is about regulation vs deregulation, Rich richer or the rich with less, it is about a bigger military (we should do more to Iran & Syria...?????...what does that mean Mitt?) or a smaller military (our defense budget is more than the sum of the next 10 ...yes 10 largest nations in world...overkill in my book and I'm x military)......It is about the Medicare voucher system should the Gov pay or the individual families be left to deal with the expense.......Do not fool yourself, this is about Social Darwinism....
Ever been laid-off by a poor person?
Hurriane Sandy is a foreboding for GOP what's to come in a real political hurricane season of 2012 election. Voters will throw the RepubliCON rascals out, Speaker Boner will be impotent.
FORWARD...
SOMETHING NBC NOT DOING SO I WILL
When Mitt Romney chose not to directly engage President Obama on Libya in last Monday’s third presidential debate, the mainstream media wrote it off as over-caution on the Republican challenger’s part.
That might be true. Certainly a lot of Republicans think so.
But what is the mainstream media’s excuse for cautiously engaging the president on Libya? Aren’t we supposed to be watchdogs? The ongoing story is story focused on whether the Obama administration provided, or refused to provide, adequate protection for the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya when it faced the threat of attack on Sept. 11. The attack left the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans dead. Subsequent conflicting accounts coming from the administration on how the White House responded, or didn’t respond, are tailor-made for a full-blown media feeding frenzy.
Yet, the so-called media watchdogs so far have been mostly toothless.
Case in point: On Friday, FoxNews.com reported that it “learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later on the annex itself was denied by the CIA chain of command... -- who also told the CIA operators twice to "stand down" rather than help the ambassador's team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.”
That’s a very chilling story. And if correct, it could be very damaging to the President Obama’s re-election chances. But looking at the websites Friday of other major news outlets, the story is mostly ignored.
It was not picked up or reported by The New York Times. The Washington Post didn’t cover it either. Same for USA Today. Neither did NBC, CBS, CNN or ABC.
CNN had a link on its Website front page to a story that says “doubts surface” on whether claims of responsibility for the Benghazi attacks was the work of terrorists. The story mostly supports administration accounts and refutes Republican critics such as Sen. John McCain, (R-Ariz.)
NBC’s only Friday story on Libya said in its headline. “Libya Disappears from Romney Stump Speeches.”
CBS’s latest story on Libya had House Speaker John Boehner asking Obama for “answers” about the attacks.
On Thursday, the major media were loaded with stories and videos in which Defense Secretary Leon Panetta defended the administration saying that the US military did not respond to the attack because in did not have adequate “real-time information” to put American forces at risk. Not much follow-up on that.
Also on Thursday, NBC’s Brian Williams interviewed Obama on “Rock Center” asking him what can only be described as a “softball” question on Libya: "Have you been happy with the intelligence, especially in our post 9/11 world? The assessment of your intelligence community, as we stand here, is that it still was a spontaneous terrorist attack and were you happy with what you were able to learn as this unfolded?"
A tougher question might have been, “Why have the administration's explanations of what really happened, and how you responded, been all over the map?”
So what’s going on here? Are the media just protecting Obama at a critical time in this election campaign, or are they just not following the latest CIA story because they would have to give credit to Fox News?
Whatever the reason, it is not good watchdog journalism.

allenjames: RepubliCONs in congress voted to cut the funding for embassy security, including for consulate in Benghazi.
East Coast make sure you prepare for the worst!
In regard to philanthropy, I have run many non-profit fundraisers. From my view, the republicans donate much more to non-profits, than democrats. I found democrats spend a lot of time whining about equality, but then have no problem utilizing the wonderful resources that were provided by the generosity of the republican donations.
The reality of it is, Romney does not have to give, even to his "cult" as you call it, church. He has free will, just like you; take a peak how much you actually donated last year. To a school, neighbor, church, etc. Girl Scout Cookies don't count :)!

Very interesting post.
Fortunately, it appears that those representing republicans have just as much cash as democrats.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Independent Thought:
the point is the Democrats are the ones who everyone believes are for the poor and raising taxes on the rich. now dont you think it is kind of hard to believe that someone is going to pass a law that well cause them to lose money.
Independent Thought
The first problem is you keep quoting Fox New (listed as an entertainment channel on their FCC charter).....It would be like a bunch of people quoting MSNBC........It is biased.....I'll go toe to toe with you on facts all day......Your perception of reality is askew.....say something real
Holy cow....Yes you F__kn idiot....It is called character and integrity.....I will have less if Obama wins.....But i also recognize something you morons do not......If I take all the wealth from the middle class, who will buy my SH_T!.....What logic you have.......Why would anybody vote for less benifits.....So all the old people that vote for Romney are doing it why? The state of MS is voting red......and yet 33% of the state is on assitance from the state or fed.......How does your logic play with that?.....LOLZ
this election may be the most important in the history of the Republic, the question to ask is, "will socialism cure our economy or not ".
Peter:
Excuse me. What am I quoting? It is my reality as a mother, daughter, neighbor, worker, friend, charity helper, and wife.
Romney/Ryan to stop the bashing behavior. Gracious.
Muglitt:
I am for helping all, we just need to do it in a prudent manner, or else there won't be anything in the checkbook for anyone. We can not sustain the current spending. I haven't heard that Obama is interested in bipartisan agreements, Romney will. We need someone at the helm that isn't afraid of the tough stuff that requires compromise and listening.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Since all the GOP ever do is promote FEAR
It would be nice if, their fear from a storm kept them home on election day.
This hurricane is a surprise!! At least its middle name isn't Donald.
and you are also an idiot....just another feather for your cap......and they want to de-fund our educational programs.....Just your gut....not really thoughts.........The best scholastic schools are in the North East....I wonder whom they are voting for.....
and then we have the other guy using a word that he has no definition of...Socialism.....open your Websters than say that again and then ask yourself are all those countries over the pond all socialist hells?......I thought the UK...Germany, France were all capitalist countries?....or did I miss something? The solution to the problem is very basic increase equity in the middle class value.....Now there are only a few ways to achieve this.....Private industry innovation (you never know) to create the newest and big industry, economic stimulus (this can be done through tax cuts or direct money injection to states and local governments) and inflation. Now tax cuts to the rich will increase their wealth by 8% annually but there are no guarantees they will spend it....and I might add the last 2 major tax cuts brought them from a 91%-70% and then a 70%-40% rate and there was no glorious GDP change directly related to it ....and this was doubling and tripling the riches annual income. Money injection works better because you are achieving 2 things...first you are stimulating the major consumer (the middle class which guaranties some return) and second you are causing a controlled inflationary rate which helps 2 fold.......Helps high debt individuals (middle class) by increasing their equity in their homes (injected money is printed money) and decreases the value of the national debt......Now here is the alternative.......Romney.......Drill baby drill....burn coal burn coal....yaya....So lets forget about all the God and environment stuff, here we go.......Romney's plan is to make energy costs so low in the US that manufacturing will return and jobs will be created.......I guess that make sense.....Well it makes sense if you are an idiot......Manufacturers that are looking at the low energy costs are generally manufacturers like FCON who produce very large quantities of low cost products/electronics....and those my friends are the new jobs we will be competing for....crap pay electronics mills....go after the Chinese factory worker job..........yaya......I'm already tired of writing this........I am tired of repeating myself......hence all the irritated words I keep using....You wanna be dumb and not open a book? Want to just spread idiotic inaccurate information? Get yourself straight....That's is all I have to say
Here's to France. When you tax the wealthy 75% I think you become, if you weren't already, a socialist country. If the wealthy were spending their profits before this time, they will certainly stop now. Or, maybe move to Grand Cayman.
once again.....another one.....Did you actually read what I wrote? 91% was our riches tax rate before Jack Kennedy.....Do you look back at US history and call us socialists?
Does anyone understand why I am so irritated yet?
In God's truth, I do not remember the 91%. Maybe we were taxing yachts.
President Obama's presence in the White House for the coming few days, seen communicating with all of the affected States' Governors and communicating with his FEMA director and directors of the other Federal response agencies in the field will be a far more productive campaign strategy than would be his presence at a few more rallies (not to mention being the right thing to do). What better opportunity than to be seen doing the work of the President while your opponent is out there just screaming condemnations. The voters will see the contrast.
A Katrina-like display of Federal ineptitude at this time, or the appearance of the President "fiddling" with other campaign things "while Rome is burning" would erase any chance of his reelection. We know it is an absolute certainty that the Republicans will be spinning the response by the President and his administration to cast that response in the worst possible light. Wait for it: No matter how adroitly handled is the Federal response to this superstorm, the spin machine for Romney will call it incompetant and say that Romney would have handled it much better.
The timing of this storm is a GIFT for the Romney campaign, and don't think for one minute that anyone in that campaign is wishing for the best for those soon to be affected by the storm. They will be hoping for disaster, and the opportunity to condemn. Just look to the history of the Romney campaign to predict the future of the Romney campaign..
Yes JFK reduced the tax rate...Sorry you dont remember ....It happened....try google if you can figure out the magic smart box in front of you...
Before JFK we were already headed for the socialist camp. I lived on a farm in Mississippi where my Dad was being paid NOT to raise cotton.....something called the Soil Bank. I do not need a magic box to prove that the U.S.A. has been headed down this path for decades. I still have a gut level feeling that getting paid for nothing is the wrong approach. My Dad, who was a good farmer, went to his grave playing golf because he had a lot of free time. And, for your information, the suicide rate in the Mississippi Delta was the highest in the nation at that time. Makes today look like Goldilocks. This is what I see in my magic smart box.
The problem is gut and no fact.......You do not understand what socialism means.....
What do you mean? The Soil Bank was FACT.
That isn't socialism.....I Don't feel like we are on the same page....So twist the conversation again.......lolz...You can't troll a troll
Hobbes' Notes....."There it is. Another low information, poorly educated voter who has succumbed to RNC/Fox propaganda."
Whaaaaat ?
Here is Mr. Obama's voter base:
Talk about being UNIFORMED about the issues. Typical Progressives.
PeterDean and Andy Rich, while interesting to read, your present debate about "socialism" is completely off topic and is therefore a violation of the Newsvine guidelines and does not belong here. You should probably find a political news story where a socialism debate strand is less likely to get you suspended by Newsvine for being off-topic, and pick up your debate from there. Cheers!
Regards, Robert.
Thank you, Robert, for getting me off the fact hook.
Wow, a porch. That's some high livin'!
Poor ppl own homes b/c they aren't born poor. They become poor through unexpected circumstances like medicial crises. They may have purchased their home when times were good. They may be older & have pd off the mortgage, so it makes no sense to incur monthly rent when paying property taxes is going to be less.
When one becomes poor, no repo man comes to take one's *stuff*.
But they will eventually, as DSS puts a lien on a poor person's home in exchange for any assistance, & expects to be pd back for it when the home is sold. It's a disadvantage to own a home when one becomes poor, as if one remains that way, there is no equity to be had in it with a lien on it, & no real benefit to one's heirs after death.
Many poor-owned homes are older, rehabbed, inner city houses, in neighborhoods where your instinct would tell you to roll up the car windows, lock the doors, & break the speed limit if you ever had to drive thru them. Despite that, home ownership has always been a part of *the American Dream*.
Many poor ppl work. It is cheaper in the long run to have them put *sweat equity* into a Habitat for Humanity project & approve them for a conventional, fixed-rate, 30 yr mortgage, w/ pymts within their income level, than it would be to supplement them for the rest of their lives w/ housing assistance in some tiny Section 8 apt (which is not a *freebie*; tenants pay most of the housing costs & the supplement goes directly to the LL).
Not only are they off housing assistance, they are also paying property taxes, plus putting $ into the economy by hiring out for maintenance, repairs, or improvements.
How is that a bad thing?
That's b/c it's no longer considered a *luxury*, but a necessity. You won't find a new home being built w/o it, even if it's not located in the desert or Southern states.
By contrast, in 1970, it was considered a luxury item on a new build. My parents built a 2-story Colonial that yr & putting in a/c never crossed their minds. That was for *rich* ppl. Nowadays, it isn't.
Part of the housing boom incl rehabbing or bldg new apts specifically meant to warehouse poor ppl on Section 8.
A/c is a real boon to the elderly, disabled, chronically ill part of the poor population. It prevents death from heatstroke during heat waves, as well as assists those w/ respiratory disorders throughout the hot mos.
If they run the a/c. Just b/c it came w/ the apt doesn't mean it gets used. Poor ppl have to pick & choose which bills they want to incur & it can be expensive to have a/c going all the time.
So, what, Granny gets the K & bathrm, & Gramps gets the LR & BR?
That's b/c more 2/3 are elderly &/or disabled. And they do live in 2 very sm rms, if they're lucky. Sometimes a bedrm wall will be erected so it can be termed a 1-BR apt. If not, it's termed a studio apt. There usually are no walls to define the rest of it.
The majority of Section 8 housing is overwhelmingly 1-BR b/c this is where the US is warehousing the elderly & disabled. It's difficult to find a 2-BR or 3-BR & nearly impossible to find a 4-BR. Section 8 rules will not permit same-sex children to share a BR after the age of 4, so families whose offspring are not the same gender *must* have a 3-BR. Children under 18 are not allowed to share a BR w/ a parent or other adult.
It's also an indicator of a declining birth rate in the US. Most ppl do not have lg families anymore. 3-4 kids is considered *lg* these days, whereas 100 yrs ago it was quite common to have 10 or more kids. My grandmother was the 3rd of 11. My grandfather was the 2nd of 7.
I'd think you'd be delirious to discover poor folk ain't *breeders* no mo' & require smaller apts.
I'm LOL'ing that you can't figure out how many hundreds of yrs earlier European housing stock was erected. I'll give you a hint. It was well b4 America was *discovered*.
You could also tuck all of Europe into a corner of the US, so of course they have the need to economize on space. They can only build so much b4 they run out of rm. The US still has rm to expand. No-brainer.
Rooms were much smaller as few as 100 yrs ago, even in the US. Even 50 yrs ago, an American house over 1000 sq ft was considered lg. Now it's not, tho plenty of poor ppl rent them (b/c no one wants to buy an old 50s-60s house that's only 800-1200 sq ft w/ a detached garage taking up most of the tiny backyard). Ppl w/ $ want bigger. New builds on single-family homes are close to 3000 sq ft these days.
The avg size of a Section 8 apt for one is approx 500 sq ft & contains a LR, K, BR, bathrm, & 1-2 closets. Adult BRs are child-sized at 9 ft sq. Most ppl would consider that a walk-in closet. A 9' x 11' LR *flowing* into a 6' x 7' K is hardly *living space* to Americans, but that is where our elderly & disabled reside. And these apts are considered *universal design* as in having 3 ft wide doorways & allegedly enough rm for a wheelchair's 360, so not much rm for furniture in that case.
Yes, & if they receive any type of DSS assistance, the Blue Book on that vehicle can't exceed $1-2K. That may have been a decent car in the 70s, but it's not now. Even those on disability cannot own a vehicle worth more than $4800. Vehicles more than 9 yrs old are *exempt* from being *counted as an asset*.
Get off that Escalade mindset; poor ppl are driving beaters.
What, is this the 70s? LOL
My parents didn't buy a color TV console until I was a freshman in HS. That was when color TVs began to come down to an affordable price & everyone was getting those huge floor model monstrosities. Those suckers lasted 4ever. The one my grandparents bought around the same time lasted 30 yrs b4 the horizontal hold went.
You can't buy a black & white TV anymore. Duhhh.
And you can pick up a *gasp* color TV on sale for a cpl hundred. It's not like it's some huge expensive thing. It's also the only *entertainment* poor ppl have, esp shut-ins.
Those cost what, $20? If you can even find a VCR these days. (I still have the one I got in 1998.) Picking up videos from the library is *entertainment* for ppl who can't afford to take the whole family to the movies at $10 per person.
That's b/c the *digital transition* sucked. All I can get in since then (& I stupidly got rid of my 20-something monster of a Sharp & bought an HDTV & a digi-antenna) are Fox (shudder) & CW (kid stuff). Ppl are paying $10/mo for basic cable to get in channels that were promised to remain *free* & just won't come in anymore.
Still stuck in the 70s when a monster-sized $500 microwave w/ dials was a status symbol?
Not anymore. Microwaves use less electricity than a range (there isn't gov't-subsisized housing anywhere that comes equipped w/ a gas range, for liability reasons). Some elderly & disabled folks are physically unable to cook from scratch & live off frozen convenience cuisine & canned goods. And they're sm & cost about $30-40 these days.
I'm surpised that many have a *stereo* when all computers come w/ drives for CDs & access to internet radio stations. Those are also cheap nowadays. You can pick up what we used to call *stackables* (meaning there aren't separate components, save for the speakers) for under $100.
Dishwashers are now standard in new builds & are no longer considered a *luxury*, esp in disabled/elderly housing units (that is the lion's share of the really poor). It's not all that expensive to buy a portable full-sized one on wheels that can be hooked up to the sink, or a sm one that sits on the countertop & can be hooked up as needed. Maybe $250. Some are not necessarily *built-in* & some just come w/ the apts like the fridge & stove do.
You really gotta do better than this in whining about how poor folk *have it so good*.
Compared to a 3rd World country, sure.
But is that what you want for Americans, to live in corrugated metal shacks down by the river to *prove* they're poor?
You think mgrs in retail are rich? They're salaried at about $25K/yr. If they have kids, that makes them eligible for SNAP, HEAP, & free schl lunches.
Total hijacking here of an article about a hurricane, NOT politics, BTW.
Hey
rich white guy in a $3000.00 dollar suit. ?? Do you think that Romney's suits cost so little. I may be wrong here having only one for weddings and one for funerals. Well ah; only one, just a coat for funerals. So am a little out of touch with cost.
There is "no creator" here tired of anything
Hate to disabuse you of your notions but.. your WRONG. Do not want to argue with you however just state a few facts.
Please look at the hurricanes path. Next look at the state maps and voting distribution. Sandy will definitively create higher democratic vote by suppressing gop voters. You probably have heard the old saw about Pennsylvania; Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the West and Alabama in between. Look at the storms path hmm, seems like Providence to me. Now I could be erroneous in my assumptions of the hurricanes path as it is not over at this point. After the recent talk by GOP candidates about abortion especially the statement at a debate about God's intentions. The lack of clear condemnation by GOP leadership could lead to a cause and effect situation. Since no man knows the mind of the God of Abraham. Wanted to add the last bit since I am a Christian and when one says God there can be misconceptions these days.
My vote is cast for the incumbent but in many ways I am quite socially conservative. Agreeing with the neccesity of food stamps or snap still does not change my disgust when stopping at the local 7/11 and watching a young man using an Oregon trail card to purchase a Slurpee and two slim jims.
Folks like you almost drove me to vote for the GOP, constant incessant attacks on my beliefs. Some have said the Democratic party is better off without folks like me. However I am mindful of what Jesus said about offending little ones and being thrown. Many religious folks in the GOP have heard the call as Take up your Millstone and go to the Sea. Which is just as wrong as denigrating little old ladies who pray that Obama will be re-elected.
Not expecting a reply but do not be sarcastic and or dismissive if you do. Adding another drop too the seas of polarization will create more harm than good.
Oregon-PRO
Good comment........Yes Repugs.......We believe in helping but not abusing.....That must play havoc with the repug belief system about dems......I, as the posting above states believes in a more efficient and regulated social program system to make sure these programs are used for what they have been intended for........WOW repugs, fix the system!.....and all you guys want to do is gut it.........Because to you everyone that receives any kind of benefit is taking advantage....Personally I have never had too take any government social safety benefits and yes I served my country too.......and I built a 3 million dollar a year business since 08' in one of the hardest hit industries........I believe in the good of the whole.....I believe with the gifts I was born with it is my responsibility to employ people....It is my responsibility to look out for those peoples lively hoods.......It is my responsibility to my brother and sister human beings......and I have no issue paying a little more (I am on the edge of the minimum income...for the Obama tax proposal) I believe that if the largest consumer in our country is broke and that they can't buy my stuff.....Then all this work and this whole belief system may make me a few bucks over the next couple of years but the ensuing feudal system will limit the customer base....The US will not compete in labor with China, India, South America etc....Without becoming that feudal state...and if you are so short sighted that you cannot understand that......Then you deserve what you get.....I come out on top either way......This decision is for you....is for all the people who work for me...is for the future of a strong consumer base....Hence good economy.....
Obama 2012/Romney 1020
Murphy Andrew, stop namecalling other users. You're suspended for a week for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
There is "no creator" here tired of anything. It's just mother nature, and the fact that nobody is talking about the problems with the environment. It is the EARTH talking to us, and telling us: "You are so worried about preventing women from having abortions, and YET, you keep NEGLECTING ME"
WATCH HOW I neglect you by killing everybody with the effects of POLLUTION, FRACKING, and the most destructive of all: KEEP DRILLING FOR OIL AND COAL, AS OUR ONLY ALTERNATIVES FOR ENERGY.
Keep on insulting each other with racial slurs, lies, and the desire for MONEY. Hopefully you will learn how to EAT YOU f**** MONEY IF YOU ELECT MITT ROMNEY. YOU WILL HAVE BARRELS OF OIL TO DRINK FOR BREAKFAST.
You are one sad puppy----maybe ask yourself why the networks are not covering the facts about Libya and the denial of assistance to help the cia safe house and the ambassador and the 2 SEALS who went there after being told 2 times to stand down to try and save our--- YOUR ----ambassador. A storm that will likely amount to very little is YOUR cover up when the REAL threat is from our own administration that is SUPPOSED to be defending US.
irespond,,,,4.3 million per obama temporary "green job" was not enough for you for this weak failed administration spent with obamastash(taxpayer money). Gas doubleing is not enough for you? 6 trillion more hussain obama debt on our children and grandchildren not enough for you? What tastes better for you? Hard earned money to buy food or obama stamps and obamafare?
Not sad yet, only will be if the party of --, right wingers, science deniers, the earth is flat, women should remain at home and do what men tell them, gay haters, environmental destroyers-- win!!!!!!!
AND MOST OF ALL RAPE ADVOCATES!!!!!!
Climate change-- which Republicans continue to deny-- produces more and stronger hurricanes, tornadoes and floods. In some places it creates drought and soaring temperatures and in others, freezing temperatures and blizzards. It's eroding coastlines all over the globe.
Open your eyes, flat earthers.
VOTE OBAMA/ BIDEN
irespond,,I would not want to talk about libya, 8% record unemployment, record foodstamps(3 fo;d),record welfare(2 fold), gasoline up twice as when hussain obama was crowned, selling guns to Mexican drug cartels with American and Mexican people being murdered, blaming acts of war being committed on America as obama and this weak failed coward administration blames it all on a video. I would not want to talk about that either!!! Romney/Ryan 2012!!!
Please watch this real life drama of...when Mitt meets Sandy...Sandy will make Mitt lose all momentum. Mitt will have to answer this Call of Nature (Sandy).
irespond,,Do not talk about the 60% of morning intelligence briefings hussain obama missed down the hall from where he sleeps( when he is not having security briefings with the view, letterman and wimpy pimpy. Do not talk about not meeting his own security counsels or even his OWN employment counsels(this year), but has met with the Muslim brotherhood many times(see how much that has helped).
This is the part where you show us how biased you REALLY ARE. The prices of oil are not regulated by the President, they are regulated by WALL STREET and the lords of "commerce". OH, BY THE WAY, YOUR HERO Paul Ryan, keeps on donating multimillion dollar subsidies to big oil companies. "subsidies" because it is not enough to show billions of dollars in profits each quarter. THEY STILL NEED OUR HARD EARNING MONEY TO DRILL.
The NRA has sold more weapons to cartels that you will ever know. They purchase the guns legaly in this country, if you don't believe me, you can read by yourself:
http://truth-out.org/news/item/8004-murder-incorporated-guns-the-nra-and-the-politics-of-violence-on-the-mexican-border
Never mind the "Great" intelligence that we got with Condoleza Rice, and the great "infofrmation" that took us to the stupidiest war in the history if this country: IRAQ.
That is why we are bankrupted now. OPEN YOUR EYES AND STOP BEING SO MYOPIC!!!!!
irespond,,Again, do not answer any questions, but just blame Bush, Bush, Bush. Moron!
NOTICED HOW i never MENTIONED Bush?
ha ha wHO IS THE MORON NOW?
And the MORON still does not answer any questions. Check and mate MORON
You know someone has lost the argument when they start name calling and have no facts to stand by.....sounds like the Romney campaign.
No facts, all lies, all the time....ooops.....that's the FOX news tag line.
earache,,,and if you would bother to have your mommy read you my earlier posts, maybe you might be able to answer the questions. Doubt it but just maybe!
Murphy, do you realize that the moment you add your "hussain" to your posts you are exposed for what you are? Well, that and the nasty names, but the "hussain" says it all.
Liberals,
Conservatives don't deny some degree of climate change. If you could listen, you would know this. The debate begins at what is causing it and what can be done about it. Something similar happened to the dinosaurs. I hardly think it was their factories and cars that caused it. Maybe, just maybe, if you people would have a civilized conversation on the issue, we may be able to get somewhere. But, name calling and derogatory remarks about your opponent only distracts from the solution.
Yo Dirpy Andrew. Get a life and quit trolling!
El Genius (Murphy Andrew)
Didn't we just have a talk about the truth of your claims about "green jobs"?.........So you just deny the FACTS and keep spewing crap. If you do not believe that we can effect the climate than go look at the dust bowl.....and if you don't think that a couple of billion cars and industrial pollution have nothing to do with these climate shifts then you are certifiable.......90% of scientists believe this is true that we are the cause of climate change....and you know something they don't? Or are you just going with your gut?
cbrblly
Murphy isn't trolling.....He really is that dumb....
Well....enough terrorizing the blogs for today.......o/
Murphy,
Are you 12 years old? If you favor GOP policies and object to progressive ones, that's OK - and vise versa.
But that argument about fuel prices show that 1) you are 12 and haven't yet taken an economics course since the basic laws of supply and demand dictate prices at the pump, 2) you are fully partisan and would hate the President regardless of current realities, or 3) you're an low-information voter and receive all of your information from Fox opinion channel or the right wing noise machine.
The price of a gallon hit $5 under GW Bush and dropped to just over $2 4 years ago as our economy contracted to what many believe was a depression at the very least a complete melt-down. The fact that fuel prices have returned to near highs show that the economy has dramatically improved.
You just endorsed Obama!
The big story wrt politics will be voter turnout. Depending on whose poll you believe, really bad weather will favor the points/incumbency challenger. This could be the storm that sweeps Obama out of office, where otherwise he might have stayed.
Here we go!!! Escuses are starting already!!!
How do you figure the storm will benefit Romney? Make it easier for him to rig the election?
kaybeee,,Where have I said it will "benefit" anyone? I just point out that you obamazombies are the pros at making excuses lioke the mindset children you are. And after I brought up that fact on my very first post, less then 5 posts later it came through!!! It is not the republicans that have voter fraud charges currently in 37 states, it is democrats. As even in Iowa there are 3 ILLEGALS charged (with connection to the democratic party), that live in $350,000 homes. You ignore the democratic senators own son that on video teaching activists how to commit voter fraud just yesterday MORON?
The Romnesiacs spout off, never post a link to a site to back up any kind of factual basis.
Romney's plan has no feet, can't walk, in fact it falls down and will take our economy with it.
Vote Obama/Biden 2012.
Wow Murphy, enjoy being the center of the universe in your own mind?
earache,,calling names again??? JB,,do not be bitter because you cannot have my autograph.
While I wish it was true, I really don't think a storm will impact this election much. The two choices present such different futures, those that understand what it at stake here will show.....even if they have to tunnel through 15 feet of snow and swim through a flood.
Problem...is that the storm is hitting blue states and limited access to the polls woulnt be good....Could be a problem.....
Enough of the hype!!!!!
Yes, enough of Romney.
I guess nobody has thought about putting the election areas on hold and changing the voting date until the potential storm damage has passed. There's nothing sacred about voting on Nov 6th. We're talking here about the future of the country for the next four years and I would think we would want to get it right and not have the outcome mitigated by a freaking storm...how stupid would that be?The election day is human made, humans can change it to suit the circumstances.
We need to stop being so robotic and let the rest of the country vote as usual while delaying the vote if necessary in the affected areas.
We don't have any early voting in my state. None.
Unless you can get an absentee ballot (good luck with that...it's not an easy process) you have exactly 13 hours on November 6 to cast your ballot here. And we are right in the projected path of the storm.
Governor Tom Corbett, moving us backward. He should be ashamed of what he has done here. Next on my agenda: replace that sleaze.
kaybeeadulttoys what a shame you don't have early voting it would save you and the rest of your Dumbocrat liberal friends from the numerous trips back and forth to the polling places on election day. Have no fear once barry get in again, and he will since this election is very close. He will make sure all you Dumbos get to vote early and often. And as you know when there is a close election, who wins them all (with one exception of baby bush ) come on you know? That right the Dumbos, al frankenstein in Mn, Malloy gov in Ct, Fatty Murray 2 timer in Wa, JFK, Landslide LBJ the list is endless. And before you start call me a Republick don't waste your time I hate them almost as much as the Dumbos, Libertarian here.
Oh kaybee and in Penn your complaining about eraly voting with the peeps in Phlia, Harrisburg etc voting so many time it hurts. And don't you worry about your state being close, the peeps, lack of publics service workers, food stampers etc will move Pa into the win column for barry.
Delay it? What? You guys were the ones making fun of McCain when he wanted to go back to Washington and do his job during the last election....you know, vote?
Now, you want a delay. No. Absolutely not. I understand though. How can we expect any consistent behavior from Obama or his supporters. Could you remind me again, the position Obama holds on abortion or gay marriage? Which one does he hold this week and in what speech. I should know this answer, but he changes it at every stump speech......it just gets so exhausting keeping up.
I'm done having any sort of back-and-forth with right wingers until after the election. Trying to use reason or reality to discuss any issue with the brainless and the brainwashed is a waste of time.
Reading the nasty, ugly opinions of poorly educated/ low-information voters makes me fear for the future of this country. I didn't grow up in a place where people felt free to scream obscenities at me, just for wearing an Obama/Biden button. I don't feel safe putting a bumper sticker on my car. Thanks for nothing, wingers.
Don't tell me it has nothing to do with racism. We've had more than enough lies from the right wing.
ARMY1971, username insults are really bad for discussion. Do better.
You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
I wondered when this story would show up. We are in the Baltimore/DC region. Early voting starts today in Maryland we intend to show up. When we had our monster storm in June we were without power for a week. My suggestion find an early voting center and go stand in line today or tomorrow instead.
That right cindyc make sure you vote early and often and whatever you do stay on Row A all the way, hope and change and now it is Foward!
Early and often? Hmmm, here in conservative land we only vote once..........
EXCUSE ME!!! This "storm" will be long gone before election day, I'm not sure I understand what the connection is between this storm and the horrible joke being pulled on The American people, this entire election cycle (starting with the elections in 2008) has been an absolute nightmare and due to the REPUBLICANS harboring such ill will toward President Obama it seems like every day is election day with these career politicians with nothing else to do but run for the next office ALL THE TIME, and once they get the office which they scratched and clawed so ruthlessly to get the title they ALL want to jaunt off to their next vacation, most of these clowns would die from a real days work...
I agree with the simple idea that the storm will be long gone by election day and for that common sense I applaud you. BUT the ill will towards Obama is his politics----not his pigmentation, his record----not his rhetoric, his economy....his performance. It stinks.
He is the KING of vacations and has NEVER worked, just agitated and "wrote" 2 books.....he didn't even have enough spine to cast a vote on election day----must be a party at the WH.....maybe some last minute money to redistribute. He must go and no offense, but THE PAST WAS PRETTY SWEET compared to his miserable future and 51,000 dollar debt on every man woman and child's head.
WAKE UP.
FRANKENSTORM or not-----he must GO.
Earlier I commented on how well 'brutal' fits you.
Now I will take issue with 'truth'.
Your comment outs you as a racist but you're too blind to see your own face in the mirror. Take your hatred elsewhere. I hear they need more haters in North Korea.
Brutal,,notice when you do not agree with obama and the libs you are spreading "hate"? But when libs disagree with you they evolve. Ironic,,huh?
Saying there's ill-will towards Obama is like saying that Sandy will cause showers along the east coast. Obama is called foreign-born even though McCain was actually born out of the country. Not that it matters, but Romney's great-grandfather FLED from the US to Mexico so that he could remain legally married to all four of his wives, and Romney's father was born in Mexico. Those Mexican Romney's have no Hispanic blood, and did not speak Spanish; they simply fled and lived there to avoid the draft, er, … one-man-one-woman marriage laws of the US.
Consider how that would play with Trump's crowd if it were true of Obama.
There are many good people (maybe even brutaltruth # 7.1 above) who support Romney because they sincerely support one of many wide ranging positions that he has taken on various issues. But there is a strong cohort of Romney's supporters for whom Romney's Morman, moderate background is trumped by Obama's race.
Actually I believe the name-calling and nastiness is the hate-spreading part. All sides could really use a step back and a few deep breaths here, though.
Sooooo where is the surprise? If anyone is surprised by sandy the hurricane then they have their heads in the sand.
With Barry Hussein occupying the White House for the past four years, it has been much like a devastating hurricane for our Country. It will take us years to repair all of the damage caused by Hurricane Hussein!!
You know what, harley? I almost hope your guy wins, just so you can get what's coming to you if he does: higher taxes, more jobs sent overseas, war with Iran, more expensive/ harder to obtain healthcare, Wall Street running roughshod over the country again, reversal of abortion rights (a country full of unwanted kids conceived by rape and incest), education only for the wealthy, priviledges for the few. And you're not one of the few.
kaybeetoys: The Communist Party USA endorses him. Hugo Chavez endorses him. Fidel Castro endorses him. Louis Farrakhan endorses him. Michael Moore endorses him. Al Sharpton endorses him. Eric Holder endorses him. Jesse Jackson endorses him. Jimmy Carter endorses him. Jeremiah Wright endorses him. Rahm Emanuel endorses him. Vladimir Putin endorses him. William Ayers endorses him. Bernadine Dohrn endorses him.
I simply do not desire to cast my vote for someone who is overtly endorsed by The Communist Party USA & Associates.
Cannot you see my point?
Hey Mini Mouse................I hope our guy Romney wins too.
We need a leader, not a radical activist in the WH. Obama will go down as the most destructive, divisive president ever to occupy the oval office.................I thought Clinton was the champ but Obama makes Clinton look like an amateur when it comes to the art of lying to the American people and stomping on our Constitution.
Well, mr, harley, when you make sure you use the "Hussein" in there you say a lot more about yourself than him or anyone else.
@Greg - You obviously don't live along the East coast nor have you read much about East Coast hurricanes and/or Nor'easters. An intense Nor'easter can cause severe flooding along the coast and also inland in river-stream valleys due to large amounts of rain alone. Add to that severe winds going along with a saturated to supersaturated ground and you can have large trees toppling over all over the place which causes power outages since these downed trees often fall on top of electric power lines and if the area with this kind of damage is very widespread there isn't enough manpower to fix all of the down power lines and other damage and as such, power outages and other problems could easily span one-week or sometimes longer around here....
i grew up on the coast of Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut but thats o.k. maybe that's not east coast enough for you, either way I have managed to live for 54 years near the east coast and I am still alive...and these news idiots do this garbage reporting ALL THE TIME, anymore statements you care to make "rock jock???
Cool you are so tough and still alive, GREG. But this isn't about you. This is about a whole area of the country.
Yes, greg, I do care to make another statement, why, thank you. From the jist and tone of your comments I was responding to it did not seem like you were familiar with the east coast, and not knowing you from a stain on the bottom of my sneakers, it seemed likely that I had a roughly 75% chance of being right, more or less, based on the geography of the USA. Well, anyway, since you are very familiar with the east coast, why don't you go swimming on Monday night, early Tuesday near the Point Elizabeth Lighthouse?
You got to hand it to the Republickans baby bush hated black people so much that he made Katrina hit New Orleans the "chocolate city" as ray ray nagin the former mayor called it. Than he would not send in FEMA to help them. Now Smit will have Sandy do her thing so as to suppress the black vote in key swing states such as Fl, NC, and Virginia. See all you Dumbocrats who don't believe in God, sometimes it pays to pray for things.
Your 'ass'umptions are incorrect, as usual for the Bush bashers.
Neither Nagin nor Blanco (both democrats and incompetent in my opinion) requested federal aid for days after Katrina. The federal government's hands were tied by that one simple fact. I know about this because I live in the New Orleans area. Nagin did not even call for evacuation of the city until well into the flooding that tool place after the failures of the levees. (And you really don't want me to get into the corruption there, do you?)
In fact, the blacks who refused to evacuate saw fit to go through the flood waters and loot the stores along Canal Street and other places. When they were stopped at the Jefferson Parish line, they decised to loot the Oakwood Mall and set fire to it.
Tell me, when Amtrak and Greyhound offered seats to those who wished to evacuate as they had to remove their assets from the threatened area, why did those seats remain empty?
Anyone with a brain knew to get out of the way of Katrina. The fact that many in Nagin's 'chocolate city' chose not to speaks volumes to anybody with a brain.
Drunk already, huh, Greg?
And if only Fox News would take a pledge of truth, honesty and respect for the rest of the days til election think of what that would do to the republicans. If you read the Bible in Romans 13, it says there is no gov put on the earth that God has not placed in power. It is no surprise to me then when you have a profound and prolific liar and a practicing russian atheist running for president that we have might have a little disturbance some where. I waited with baited breath with the hurricane by Tampa which could have playeda big part there but they almost, if you remember Eastwood et al, they almost skated by on that. Since God is in control we will see what happens with this hurricane. But Obama has had the blessing of God throughout this all and will be repaid double for every lie Romney fiasco has told. We only have to sit back and see it if it time for the repayment. God Bless Obama and God Bless America and God Bless also Romney and Ryan and may they suddenly start being truthful, respectful and honest even if they have to lose to do it. Btw way Rmoneys mo is done. Realclear politics for days had Obama with 50 electoral votes to win, it went to 16, then to 24 and nowis back to 48. Now that is mo. Without the republican leaning Rasmussen it would be higher. God Bless our newly elected president Barack Obama for 2013 and protect our country in the manner you see fit from Hurricane Sandy and I might add from Romney and Ryan. They would be worse than the hurricane. .
ktlieing,,,as ABC(all bama corp) and their accusing Romney of a cancer death or dingy harry ried accusing him of being a tax felon? If you believe in god(which I really doubt), why do you turn you head when your prophet obama was the spearhead of partial birth abortions? When he denies help to save a diplomats life as well as 3 other American treasures in Libya? As the border agent and multiple innocent god fearing Mexicans slaughtered by the drug cartels that hussain obama and his dept of no justice sold guns to? You are a phoney, LIAR and a libtard MORON!
Murphy, your vocabulary is small if you have to call names all the time. You seem to be a really angry and unhappy person. Just keep making things up and twisting them if it suits you, though.
Murphy Andrew, Army 1971 and Brutal Truth-- you guys are commenting on the wrong story. your comments are more suited to the story about the AP poll showing the majority are bigots.
katinsett,,,MsDNC does not and will not bring those real stories to the forefront so we have to point that out since obamazombies never hear the truth, or you just close your eyes to it. What have we said that is NOT true? Hurts,,,huh?
Just an early morning joke, since the lame stream media see ghost under ever bed and has to tie it into the election. They are working extra hard even more so this time around to keep barry in DC. Last night on Night Line they had a story about the KKK, and how it is make a comeback in this country. Burning crosses, the black minister who saw it first hand 50 years ago. Yea making a comeback, all 6000 of them, I was so scared since I am Italian American and Catholic I could hardly sleep last night for fear the Klan was coming for me. But the point was right there, they are angry white men, who hate barry and you the voter better make sure to get out and vote for him.
Churn Sandy Churn, get stronger and wipe as many mofos out as possible.
You mother is a piece of @!$%# for having you. If you have children I hope your daughter is gang raped and and has a "gift from God." You are a true piece of @!$%#. Rot in hell.
It's strange how the politicking is so "important" that the only thing about the storm worth reporting on is the effect it might have on the incessant spewing of lies, false accusations, false promises, and irrelevant bullcrap that is part of the presidential campaign.
Never mind the potential property loss, loss of life, injury, and interruption of lives the storm may hold.
Never mind informing people on how to prepare for it and protect themselves.
Jerry,,AMEN on that my friend!
Nah they tried that in New Orleans 5 days prior, and remember that scene? With ray ray nagin the mayor and blanco the governor. The Dumbocrats for 75 years starting with barry's grandfather FDR preaching how the Federal Government can solve all your problems and you don't even have to think any longer, just keep voting for them. And the results were Katrina, when a Cat 5 hurricane is headed your way and your waiting for ray ray and the school buses to drive you to safety. Pretty sad.
Army,,ever wonder what would happen if (god forbid) california got a bad earthquake while Gov moonbeem is in the chair? Democrats asked for that and I'am just sorry to see the innocents that had not.
The hurricane news is a welcome break from all this Election Garbage.
Appalling that almost $900 million is spent by candidates in this crap 'democracy".
Nature is the REAL story, always is... the REAL Winner. Oh yeah, and if we continue to ignore Her and not plan for future green energy, the weather will get a whole lot worse.
Which candidate does 'Sandy" endorse?
Better get my Romney vote in now!
To everyone who keeps using the word "Libitards", N word, or R word. I have a special needs child so this will be a collective address to all of you: You mother is a whore for having you. You father is a pimp who @!$%#ed her. If you have a daughter I hope she is gang raped by minorities (she wanted it anyway, and her lady parts will protect her: I hope she gets a "bir-racial" gift from God. Your good buddies in your party are gonna make her keep it, so good for all of you. Be sure and take it to you next skinhead rally...all your "friends" will want one. And I am certain who ever married you is your brother or sister anyway; or your rode your Harley without your helmet....; or you can play with your gun and you know...AND if there is a neo-con hell I hope you all get a great table there. With the other wonderful/beautiful people. You are truly the cockroaches of this planet.
I can see the court battles now. This will drive this election to the Supreme Court.
post1.1 ralph
Oh when Mitt wins this election, the Obamies can sit and cry............... GO ROMNEY !
OH NO!!! If the campaign is affected, so are all these dumb articles. What the he!! am I going to comment on then?
No no NO, what if the power goes out? I have to go... according to the news I should be out buying a generator and enough food for at least a month. Plus batteries and even MORE flashlights. It amazes me how stores run out of them now. Don't you ALREADY have a few at home?
Storms, Elections, War with Syria, Iran, High inflation, more printing of Fed funny money, devaluing currency, still high amounts of people out of work, more jobs closing up going too China, Economical down fall all across the world with this Euro BS.
I don't think either of these 2 guys can stop let alone soften the load of cr-ap that has happened, and is going to get worse over the next year.
Come election night sit back, and ask for another new candidate because these 2 will never be able too stop f---king the country down the road.
Northeast coastal is a lock for Obama anyway. Doubtful Sandy will 'wreak havoc' in Ohio or Wisconsin. So who cares?
Governments all over the North East are holding emergency seminars due to the storm and possible extended power outages.
Public servants are being schooled in how to deal Solitaire by hand, with an ordinary deck of cards.
How long do you think it will take for Romney to start criticizing the President for his slow response to the disaster that has not happened yet?
If you give a damn about the rest of your life and your' children's ENTIRE existence....take a page out of the pony express motto..."whether rain, sleet, ice, or snow,...the mail will come through." If you need a canoe, go vote. Snow skies, go vote. Once again...except for the immediate coast line that "could" see some wicked big tidal surges....damn the elements....go vote.
