NBC's Chuck Todd reports that the third and final debate between President Obama and Governor Romney was a clash in styles, with an aggressive president met by an opponent who seemed to search for areas of agreement.
President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney debated domestic policy almost as much as they did foreign policy during the third and final presidential debate Monday night in Lynn University, Boca Raton.
Obama's barbs and policy clashes define the final debate
Obama delivered some of the harshest lines of the night, inspiring "horses and bayonets" memes across the Internet after he mocked Romney's criticism that "our Navy is smaller now than at any time since 1917":
"Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military's changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater — nuclear submarines":
President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney debate the best strategy for keeping the military strong.
Here's a selection of the reaction from NBC News analysts and others:
Brian Williams, anchor of 'NBC Nightly News'
"We always try to look for the phrase or expression that will live forever out of these. Tonight's has to be 'horses and bayonets.' It was during an exchange where, clearly, the president's effort was to paint Governor Romney, paint the debate as kind of a past-versus-future framing. It was specifically about the military — the governor's assertion we had fewer ships as a Navy than at any time since (1917) — a very sharp comeback from the president."
Tom Brokaw, NBC News
"What we saw tonight was Governor Romney trying to move to a less hawkish position, talking much more about winning hearts and minds than he has in the past.
NBC's Tom Brokaw describes the debate as more civilized than the previous meeting between the candidates.
"If you could have said to one of the two candidates, 'Nice tie,' he would have said, 'Yes, let me talk to you about the economy.' They got back to that subject as quickly as possible, because they know that's where the big interests of the country are.
"When it comes to foreign policy, these are very complex issues, and there are no shake-and-bake kinds of answers to them. No one has talked, for example, about the European economy and the impact it's having on our domestic economy."
David Gregory, moderator, 'Meet the Press'
"Our colleague Tom Brokaw likes to talk about voters' watching an event like this and imagining either the president or his challenger as commander-in-chief, in the Oval Office. Obviously, a sitting president has already passed that threshold test, and I think you saw President Obama trying to make it very clear that Mitt Romney, in his judgment, was not up to the test. talking about his positions' being all over the map, talking about the fact that you've never had to execute on foreign policy decisions, talking about what I've learned as commander-in-chief.
NBC News' David Gregory and Savannah Guthrie analyze the third and final debate.
"You also saw the president determined to pick a fight ... with Governor Romney and Romney surprisingly determined to avoid a fight, playing almost as if he was ahead, determined to sound more moderate, to disagree less with the president on foreign policy.
"Where were the bright shining distinctions between these two men tonight?"
Savannah Guthrie, NBC News
"This was absolutely the Romney strategy going into this debate — to majorly tone down the rhetoric, and at times, as David observed, it seemed the president was spoiling for a fight. He wanted to draw the contrast.
"Romney, it was clear from the very first answer, wasn't going to be the Romney we've seen on the campaign trail, known for those stinging criticisms of the president on a whole host of areas of foreign policy. He was asked about Benghazi, Libya — something we've heard Romney go hard after the president on the campaign trail — but he didn't take the bait from the very first answer. Instead, Romney advisers said they wanted him to come across as measured, as moderate, as somebody who has an understanding of the foreign policy issues with some depth.
NBC News' Chuck Todd says President Barack Obama looked as though he needed to score more points at the third presidential debate, while Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney might have hurt himself by playing "prevent defense."
Vote: Did the final debate influence whom you'll support?
"There were times during this debate where it seemed Romney was almost delivering a book report on the hot spots of the world. (He was) clearly trying to show that he will not be caricatured as a warmonger, somebody who engages in cowboy rhetoric. But the president, by the same token, (was) determined to remind him of his past statements."
Truth Squad: The third and final presidential debate
Richard Haass, president, Council on Foreign Relations
"I found all of this somewhat odd. But again, to me, the larger bottom line of the night was that on foreign policy issues, there was actually much more agreement than disagreement.
Council on Foreign Affairs President Richard Haass says there was "much less disagreement than you would have expected."
"I found it striking how both gentlemen were talking about things domestic. Here it was a foreign policy debate, and they both kept coming back to what were the real bases of American strength: 'Enough nation building overseas; now we need to start nation building at home.' That to me was a consistent theme, and I think they're both reflecting what they're hearing and seeing out around the country."
George Pataki, former governor of New York
"When the president stands up there and says we need to put some distance between ourselves and Israel, I think you're making a very clear statement. As Governor Romney effectively pointed out tonight, on that first trip he visits Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, he goes to Iraq, but skips our closest ally. That sends a message not just to the Middle East but to the globe about Israel's standing in this administration.
Former Gov. George Pataki, R-N.Y., criticizes President Barack Obama on his policy with regard to Israel and suggests that Obama should have taken a great role in the Green Revolution in Iran.
"Talk about changing policies — it was President Obama's administration that fought tooth and nail to delay the sanctions that he's bragging about tonight. It was Congress that said to the president, because of the support of the American people, we're going to make sure we have these things.
"Governor Romney today pointed out differences on Iran where he would be far more aggressive on sanctions, and the president again — revisionist history — it was President Obama who, when the Green Revolution was happening in Iran, when Iranian students were holding up signs saying, 'America, help us,' this president was the one who sat on the sideline and did nothing.
"This is a president who forever in his speech was talking about how al-Qaida is on the run. Well, he's dropped that. ...
"I'm proud of Governor Romney tonight. I think he did an excellent job."
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., Obama's practice debate opponent
"If you're a leader in the world, you're scratching your head tonight saying, 'How could the American people possibly elect a guy who has changed his position every few months and doesn't know what he's going to do in foreign policy?'
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., calls Mitt romney "a candidate in confusion."
"I thought I was listening to the Wikipedia candidate tonight. (Romney) would say, 'Oh, there are Taliban in Pakistan. They have nuclear weapons.' But what's the policy, Governor? What are you going to do that is different? How are you going to — nothing. Absolutely nothing. Which is why I tweeted that they sunk the battleship.
"Take the ships. As a Navy guy, when I was in the Navy, we had 680-something ships. There's not anybody that questions today that our Navy is the most powerful on the seas, that we don't have the most powerful military in the world. We spent more, as the president said tonight, than the next 10 nations in the world — China, Russia, Great Britain, France all put together — we spend more. ...
"I have to tell you: I was stunned. Mitt Romney scares — he really scared me tonight. I mean, this is a guy, if people think he's ready to be president, this country's going to go back to the Bush policies that took us to Iraq."

Mr.Romney always looks calm & confident but Obama seems to be very angry to the
point that he wants to punch someone. Not very presidential. Hey Barry, let Joe do all
the dirty work for you & get some laughs. LOL
Overall, Romney came across as having the temperament and demeanor that I would prefer to see in the Oval Office. He presents a more Presidential image, which America would then present to the world. On that score, Romney may have picked up another couple percentage points of the undecided voters.
Romney/Ryan
0bama was unhinged and wasn't able to connect with the worries of average Americans.
Obama wanted to mix things up, to raise the temperature. Romney wanted to cool things down, to be reassuring.
Who was more Presidential? Romney, of course! Great job, Mitt!
I will be proud to call you "Mr. President!"
What was up with that zombie-like stare that Obama had on his face throughout the debate? He looked maniacal.
Mitt Romney out classed again. Talks a lot, says nothing. . . . Like me :)
Obama/Biden 2012
With that crazy eye, jaw clenching thing 0bama was doing he looked like he was high on cocaine.
Romney was brilliant. It was important for him to avoid the "warmonger" tag, and he did so by keeping cool. Some pundits were critical because he did not go ballistic with Obama in return, however, those are not the votes that Romney needs. He already has those. He played it perfectly.
I lean towards Romney's approach this evening. We've already seen that both can be aggressive. It was great to see Romney cool and collected and readily able to voice his foreign affairs plan in a clear and concise way.
Obama seemed like he was still trying to make up for his absence during the first debate. Someone should have told him that you can't undo what has already been done. He just didn't come across as professional and dignified to me, like a President should.
How long did Obama practice that "sinister stare" in the mirror?
How unpresidential.
No...Romney didn't look angry at allll in the last debate. The President wasn't "angry", he was confident, and forceful in his argument. The last time he chose not to be you're probabaly the same guy saying how "weak" he looked.
it's citizen that are mooching off the system need you
Did you forget how Romney acted in the second debate? Actually, both of them acted like bullies at the back of a middle-school bus. Neither is fit to be in the Oval Office.
In looking at the comments in this forum, though, it is little wonder that such obnoxious, immature people are being elected. The leaders that the People choose are a reflection of themselves.
IF.... I were to vote for Obama, I can't help but wonder what he has learned and what he would change in term 2. He rarely brings up any agenda that he would move forward with, and he keeps talking about the deficit as if he has not heard of that word before today.
What change for the better can one expect with a vote for Obama?
It is being reported that Mitt was found crying behind the stage after the debate!
Headlines: Koch Brothers write Romney another check, Romney etch a sketch shaken again. "I Never said that in the debate"
Obama/Biden 2012
Does Obama EVER not interrupt? That is so rude.
I've got a huge box of Kleenex for all of the Republican cry babies on here. It's too bad willard got beat at his own game. Poor Kevin C.....isn't that what Republicans think represents "strength," or was willard interrupted because he kept rambling about nothing? Save some of those Kleenex for election night. Elliot, Sirie, and Jody are gonna need to borrow some too.
VOTE A STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET AND REMOVE ALL REPUBLICANS FROM OFFICE!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
I didn't think it was posssible but I now think that Romney acts even more arrogant than the Boy George. If America elects this clown shoe, we desrve him. There are no mysteries about what kind of a DB and bully and moron and thief he is.
"Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me."
How many times can conservatives continue to be fooled by Republican lies? At what point do they give up and admit they've made a mistake. Etch-a-Sketch Romney is not the answer and never will be.
I need to compliment Romney for actin as President Last night. It show that he really could take the heat. President Obama Aggressiveness made him look like the challenger. He went after Romney as if Romney was the president he did score more point as an opponent wanting to become President. This debate made clear that Romney is capable to be the commander in chief.
Sorry Hussein, when you fall behind 28-0 in the first quarter as you did at Mile High Stadium, you cannot come back.
It scemes that the Republicans here watched a Tivo of the first debate, because in this one Obama was the clear winner.
Romney was lying his __— off and the President wouldn't put up with it. Romney is a light weight. If he gets in, the ex-Bush neocons he has as advisors will run the show. He has no regard of the Palistinians, so there will be no deal to be had there. A month ago he was itching to attack Iran, now?? Lying is not a strategy for foreign policy.
Both are terrible. But out of the 2, Romney is the worst. A serial liar that keeps changing sides of the issues that you have no idea who he really supports.
One thing for sure is that he is not for the 47%. And if he wins, he will only care about the 1%.
Moderate Mittens, sporting profuse sweat and a fake tan professed complete admiration for Obama's foreign policy.
SNAP POLLS AWARD DEBATE TO OBAMA
7:39AM EDT October 23. 2012 - President Obama won Monday's foreign policy debate in a pair of instant polls, one of them decisively.
In a survey by CBS News, 53% awarded the debate to Obama, to 23% for Republican Mitt Romney and 24% undecided.
An instant CNN poll found a closer closer contest, with 48% favoring Obama and 40% going with Romney, and the remainder undecided.
Romney changed once more who he was. Mr. Etch a sketch changed his policies he has been touting to try and be more like PRESIDENT OBAMA. Romney and his Bush regime of advisers(17 of 24 of Romney advisers are from Bush regime) decided their war profiteer sabre rattling chickenhawk ,don't play well with the public, so they changed Romney. All the news media wondered who was this guy last night and where did he come from?......2 weeks left and Romney flip flops for the millionth time to try to be what people want for that moment.
Romney is totally unstable, in his words and actions. The world has sanctions going on against Iran, yet his company was still doing business with Iran, breaking the sanctions. Giving aid to the enemy for $$$$$ and at the same time saying they should be attacked immediately.....Romney two faced for greed and unstable in his mind because of all the flip flopping!
VOTE PRESIDENT OBAMA/BIDEN AND TEAM AMERICA, KEEP MOVING FORWARD!
Mitt Romney's debate points: "I agree with the President, The President was right, The President made the right call, etc. etc". Etch-a-Sketch Romney in action.
Better brush up on geography:
Mitt Romney repeated his contention that Syria is Iran’s route to the sea. This is a puzzling claim, considering that Syria shares no border with Iran — Iraq and Turkey are in the way — and that Iran has about 1,500 miles of coastline along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, leading to the Arabian Sea. The Fact Checker column has looked into this before.
"Mr.Romney always looks calm & confident"
Mr. Romney was ready to cry, you want a guy like this for President ? I'll never understand the GOP/FOX and Friends viewers that have no idea what they want. President Obama hopefully will win this election, if not, the God save America.
Obama clearly was the Commander-in-Chief last night with strong facts and level headed responses. Those who say he was there to pick a fight are probably right. Romney has lied his way into a tie in the polls and last night he was weak and full of errors, especially in the geography of the Middle East. Imagine that in a president! I can't. Romney has facts about how he will reduce the debt about $7,000,000,000,000 totally off as far as the math, and how he is going to raise the money from getting rid of loopholes that he doesn't state! Congress will never pass them anyway as they are for the rich in the House since it is republican controlled. They went home without acting on the Veteran's Bill or a Farm Bill. By the way if they get rid of all the loopholes would account for .05% of the spending and debt!
Obama and Biden 2012
The problem is for the next 4 years we are going to have a rough-go no matter which one is elected.
We have not had an decent choice since JFK. I think even the conservatives were JFK fans. But even there he made a bad choice in Johnson as VP. I will go to my grave believing it was an assassination of convenience from a power hungry oil crowd from Texas...and I am a Texan!
But I digress... neither of these 2 are good for the country and these are my top 2 reasons:
Obama: Won't stop spending and has made his health care a red tape nightmare.
Romney: Won't stop spending on Warmongering and cannot control the deficit with cutting Taxes. How can you cut off one of your arms and expect to lift the same amount or more with just one arm?
Last night the President did what he does best....one liners. Evidently in his mind, thats all the people who would vote for him can remember...or comprehend. It was the same Obama, interrupting while his opponent was speaking....then being condescending.
I dont think Romney is the best candidate the Republicans could have nominated, but he sure is the best choice of the two right now. There has been at least SOME semblance of a plan to move the economy forward....instead of yet again, more catch phrases from Obama.
Sorry, Boro, but that's just a plain idiotic statement, from someone who knows his guy is in deep trouble and doesn't want to accept it. I mean, exactly how the hell did you know he was ready to cry for krissake?
Vermillion......YOU FORGOT TO MENTION FRANK LUTZ WAS AT THE MEETING WITH PAUL RYAN 4 YEARS AGO WHEN REPUBS PLEDGED TO VOTE AGAINST AMERICA RECOVERY> That's right you're pollster buddy helped organize 15 repubs including Paul Ryan to pledge to vote against any bill that would make president Obama look good at the 2012 elections. John Boehner repub leader warned repubs to stay away from Frank Lutz as he was toxic. So they simply did not invite him.
republicans committed a record number of filibusters to stop recovery. Repubs were even voting against and blocking healthcare for the sick and dying 911 first responders. Blocking to end subsidies for companies like Romney Bain who take American jobs overseas for profit.
Yeah that Fox News frank lutz helping repubs to pledge to take America down, to make Obama a one term president.
VOTE PRESIDENT OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 PROTECT AMERICA FROM FOX NEWS!
Mitt Romney lies more than Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush combines. I remember every election since 1952 and I have never seen any candidate for any party lie more that Romney. Mitt Romney stands for nothing other than winning an election. He has no core, no backbone, no principles.
3SCORE...FACT CHECK SHOW PRESIDENT SPENDING LESS THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT FOR DECADES......YOUR LIE DOESN'T FLY!
That's right, looking at the facts at all fact checks you will find that president Obama spending is actually lowest for decades. Congress spends, not the president.
We once again saw a schoolboy whiner in obamy. With no factual replies he leaned heavily on the liberals to read into his failure something else. No facts came out of the debate from obamy. He lied about his apology tour, he lied about how he helped the people of Libya by taking Ghadafi out. He left a county high and dry with no leadership, multiple milita groups trying to control the country and massive deaths that fall directly on the shoulders of our communist leader obamy. He didn't want to answer anything about the shrinking military. It has shown the US as a third world country without leadership. The only person that appreciates this fool is Nikita Kruschev. After all, it was Nikita that said Russia would destroy the US by putting people in the highest political offices. He also said he would destroy it from within. Well, he got obamy, pelosi, and reid. Three of the best Russian leaders they could find.
Liberal College Girl said:
I take it you are speaking about the Obama supporters, since no intelligent person would have voted for Obama due to his overwhelming lack of qualifications in 2008. The Obama supporters are the most obnoxious, immature people on the thread. Thanks for seeing this, most Liberals stick together like glue.
As for the title of the article, I would take that as a given. Once again, Obama came out swinging. Unfortunately, he was not effective as he repeated the same lies about Romney again. Being a broken record in regard to lying about Romney's history is stupid. (His flip flopping comments were an opening for Romney, but fortunately, Romneyis more Presidential than to bring up how Obama "evolving" concerning gay marriage is not a flip flop, but Romney's opinion elvolving as events unfold is. Really? I would be very concerned is there was a change in events and Romney always kept the same opinion.) Obama went on the offensive because he had no way to defend his record, other than to attack and deflect the attention away from himself. I'm glad they didn't delvedeeply into Bengazi. Obama had major egg on his face in debate 2 lying about the actions of his Administration. Anything he would have said last night would not helped his position, nor done anything to improve the way the Administration is handling the next of kin of the deceased.
Overall, this debate really didn't do much, except show how poor a President we currently have.
On a positive note, Bob Scheiffer was the best moderator of the series.
Romney/Ryan 2012, the only hope for an improving America.
That was another ass whoopin by the Presdient.
Romney had his butt handed to him.
"There are fewer horses than in WWI"...LOLz
Romney is toast and the Repubs know it...
Rolaids and Tums flew off the shelf last night from most stores in the RED States, I wonder why...
Actually pretty funny at how unstable Romney was when his rant went non stop trying to control all talking, just blabbering about anything to stall any meaningful conversation. Like the baby who is losing when playing ball and decides it's his ball and runs home with it when losing!
MITT is going to be tough on China...he is going to outsource American jobs too fast for them to handle!!!
Mitt bought a barbwire company to sell more barbwire to China so they can keep the sweatshop children from escaping from forced work...making it tough on children in china ....wow...
Romney played prevent defense last night and the same thing happened that always happens when you play prevent defense -- you get your ass kicked. What was very clear last night was that Romney stands for NOTHING. He will flip-flop, bob and weave, lie, spin, and say anything to win an election.
PAT G.......talking Nikita Kruchev?.....You are thinking about 1960?......wrong debate buddy...it's 2012......Wake up Rip Van pat G!...you have been sleeping 50 years plus!
The huge gaff of the night has to go to Obama on his foolish bayonets claim. His own military advisers have been warning of the lack of naval power we have and our ability to hold the south china sea is slipping away. Your navy is the single most important part of your foreign policy because it also supports your economy through protecting trade routes. Obama is letting our foes take over trade routes that are vital to our interest and we should all be asking our president why?
Hmmm, since Iraq is no friend of the US, and with Israel, Turkey and Saudi Arabia being are our allies, Romney was making the point that if we don't take the Syrian situation seriously and have some hands-on involvement, an Iran/Iraq/Syria alliance would be a strategic advantage for Iran since Syria has the widest access to the Mediterranean of either Jordan, Lebanon or Israel. A friend alley if you will.
Bulletin!!!!!!!! Romney enters hospital and on 24 hr suicide watch!!!!!
Romney # 2 went to check his offshore accounts in the Cayman islands.
Romney #3 went to China to see his chinese workers doing American jobs...Romneys base. $$$$$$
Romney #4 pretending to be President Obama trying to get date with Michelle !!!
He did remind us of that several times. He had to. LOL
So what's so presidential about Mitt being such a rancid dingleberry?
Romney 3 for 3, Obama 0, the choice is clear
Question: Is it Obama's position that the Navy is as obsolete to a modern military as horses???
Thus concludes the debates with the following records:
Romney: 1-0-2 (1 BIG win, 0 losses, 2 essential draws)
Obama: 0-1-2 (0 wins, 1 BIG loss, and 2 essential draws)
So much for the "master debater"... So much for the community organizer. So much for the Jr. senator with no senate experience due to campaigning for the presidency. So much for the college lecturer who never even authored a singe paper that was mandatory (google it), and whose peers couldn't stand...
Obama is not a bad man, just misguided and inexperienced.
Romney / Ryan 2012
IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER! I didn't watch this one, my mind is already made up. I like many democrat voter will not vote for Obama again. Romney isn't our choice either. Most I've talked to are not going to vote at all. Vote for the Green People.
NObama 2012!
Perfect example, Mitt says "we cant kill our way out"... yet in answer to the very next question, the first words out of his mouth are "we have to go in and kill these guys". This just proves he'll say anything to win and he cant keep his lies straight, so in order to corroborate them he basically endorsed the president all night, thanx Mitt!
Romney would say bad things about Obama with every chance he had ... but when Obama would call Romney out on what he had said the previous week which directly contradicted what he was saying now ... Romney would say he was being attacked!!!!!!
It's extremely hard to debate a liar especially when he says you're attacking him when you point out his lies ........
Very good strategy by the Romney camp ... and it seems to have worked with the idiot posts coming from the far right nut cases ...
Bottom line ... Romney got schooled and the nuts are upset ... saying nothing about his policies ... but he looks presidential ... pretty sad!
Romney said last night that he will cut all non essential programs to save money.
This has the direct effect of increasing the amount average family will have to spend to maintain what they have now. While Governor, he imposed new fees that added up to $500,000,000. These things have the same effect on your wallet as tax increases. He needs to get trillions this time and it will come out of your wallet. Of cource the rich do not use these public services and will not be affected.
Andy,
Bubble boy you are delusional.
The score is Obama/Biden 3, Romney/Ryan 1.
sirie,
anything would be better than the geography confused and wimpy Romney we saw last night. Certainly, not Commander-in-Chief material!
Outside of a few low-brow "zingers" by Obama people were more impressed with Romenys calm and mature demeanor, call it Presidential! Obama knows he's behind and looked desperate and pissy!
My President is the MASTER OF THE ONE LINERS!!! Don't you know that he used to rouse the crowds in Chicago using Bull-horns in his Community Organizing Days!!!!
That Romney guy acts so Serious because he has been WORKING all those years as a GOVERNOR or in the BUSINESS World, while my President has been a PROFESSIONAL POLITICIAN WINNING VOTES AND INFLUENCING PEOPLE!!!! He had me on the Edge of my Chair with his negative Quips!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 . . . KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE . . . YOU PAY ME, I VOTE FOR YOU!!!!
DocHolliday,
"Romney had his butt handed to him.
"There are fewer horses than in WWI"...LOLz"
I think that is an accurate observation. It was obvious to me from watching the debate last night that Romney knows as little about the military as he does about foreign policy. He seems to think that all you have to do is have a big military with lots and lots of men, ships, tanks and guns, the more the merrier, to keep the country safe. He knows nothing about how military technology changes and the nature of the threat changes and military forces have to be able to adapt themselves to the changing nature of the threat, the geography of the country they are fighting in, the enemies tactics and strategy, etc. I would not be surprised if Romney thinks ground forces still face each other lined up in ranks, shoulder-to-shoulder, on the battle field and fire muskets at each other. Obama was right in pointing out Romney's ignorance of military things. He told Romney, "I don't think you know much about how the military works." But what would you expect from someone who went to France instead of Vietnam during the war there?
starsailing,
"Romney is totally unstable, in his words and actions."
I agree. It might just be me, but when I watch Romney, especially his eyes, he doesn't seem to me to be quite all there. A bit nuts is my impression.
@ clwyd-2621393
anything would be better than the geography confused and wimpy Romney we saw last night. Certainly, not Commander-in-Chief material!
I take that as a "no new ideas" answer. Vote for my guy because he is not the other guy doesn't quite impress me. Romney has a plan, just wondered if the President had one...
I am saddened with the fact that there is so much attention given to the Dem & Rep.s for president and other offices. I wish that there was a movement strong enough to vote the majority of them out - That would force the remaining to "Work Together" instead of "Blamming" each other.
I do not totally agree with the Ind. party, but they are the best "Third" choice and has my vote!
Obama was painful to watch with that "deer in the headlights" stare and the constant blinking. You know he got beat up because he didn't look up during the first debate, so this time he forced himself to stare- pathetic
Which debate did you watch? Did Fox News digitally alter the images as they were being broadcast?
Romney was on the defensive all night. He was sweating profusely (it was really obvious in hi-def), agitated, stammering in responses, and often filling the time with babble-speak just to get through his two minutes. The only times he was calm was when he kept complimenting Obama on doing all the right things on foreign policy and how he agreed on almost everything.
From the very start, it was apparent that Romney was very uncomfortable with having to commit to anything on foreign policy and just wanted to get through the whole debate without losing too many votes in the process.
Romney lost the second debate by a slim margin, but last night, it was almost like he didn't show up or sent a left leaning clone of himself to agree with Obama on almost everything. Obama won this one by a large margin. Spin it anyway you want, but I doubt you'll find many Romney supporters who are honestly pleased with his performance last night. They have to say he won publicly, but privately they know he did an awful job.
newscover,
"Romney would say he was being attacked!!!!!!
It's extremely hard to debate a liar especially when he says you're attacking him when you point out his lies ........"
Your observation is excellent. Romney was using the "Now-you-hurt-my-feelings. You're a bad boy" tactic to try to throw Obama off and make it look like Obama was being unfairly aggressive, and he kept on using it every time he was caught in a lie.
HandsOffMyMedicare!!
You said it Sweetie! BUT you got to contribute to get paid.
NObama 2012!
All I can say is I pray America wakes up and after Nov 6 I do not have to see this current President ever again.
Romney was eloquent, thoughtful, intelligent and knowledgeable about everything he spoke. He responded and behaved Presidential. He will do a fabulous job overseeing our country. He will garner respect unlike the current Putz-in-Chief.
As usual, Obama proved himself to be what he is. A community-organizer thug, who clearly only knows his talking points. An empty suit who clearly does not have the intelligence to be President.
And I figure his maniacal, evil look stare down and blinking eyes are because he hasn't had much sleep. I mean, even he must be bothered by the fact that it was him and his administration that caused the death of our 4 Americans in Libya.
I now understand why he has kept his college transcripts (if there are any) secret. He's just community-organizer pay-grade!
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 AND 2016!!!

Gilbert Gottfried/Carrot Top 2012 anyone ??????????????????
.
Amazing! Obama was beyond horrible in his first debate and MSNBC, Democrats in general and everyone on that side collectively (to a man, to a women, to a pundit) said so and called him out (I wrote and thereafter, several times on line that he looked like he was trying to loose the election)!
How is it then that when the President has 2 out of 3 wins (the last 2 debates) the far right can invent such obvious and laughable fictions? Honestly, if Mitt had jumped up on the top of the table in the last debate and took a proverbial bowel movement he would/was applauded by FOX and these "I hate Obama more then I hate Mitt" types for being manly assertive, in your face decisive, take no prisoners all while simultaneously being a really nice guy and Presidential... but somehow (to the point of ad nauseum) Obama was just an "angry Black Man! I'm sorry but you guys can never own it because even though you can dish it out... it appears YOU CAN NEVER TAKE IT! By the way for those who did not watch the last debate... Obama decidedly won and in the less then nuanced vernacular of boxing, "it was a knock out with Mitt going down for the count". Proceed Mr. Romney...
Also for you students of history this was no Nixon's Checkers speech but a sweating Nixon (see Kennedy/Nixon debate)! Mitt was sweating like he was coming down with something!
Hopeful American,
"Romney was eloquent, thoughtful, intelligent and knowledgeable about everything he spoke. He responded and behaved Presidential."
It never ceases to amaze me how much our political assumptions and preconceptions influence our perceptions. What you saw in Romney last night is the exact opposite of what I saw. And just remember: Looking presidential and being presidential are two different things.
Summary of the debate:
Mitt Romney endorses Barack Obama for President.
"Obama determined to pick a FIGHT"
Analysis: Un-Presidential.
THAT says it all in a nutshell.
I think if Romney had agreed with the President's foreign policy one more time he would have been accused of interviewing for a position working for Hillary Clinton.
Who was he? He absolutely reversed everything he told his Republican base during the primary. It's clear his Neo-Con handlers have him firmly in tow.
Please do some FACT CHECKS before posting how GREAT Obama/Biden did in the debate(s). Telling lies at the top of your lungs while rolling your eyes does not make the lie a fact.
I have to admit that both sides fabricate half truths, but Obama/Biden are winning the lie game with a totally unbeatable score.
"I can see England from Cape Cod" - Mitt Romney's foreign policy
@ Mickey:
I didn't say that Romney looked presidential (although he does), I said he responded and behaved presidential. A 180 from the Thug-in-Chief. And after 4 years of the empty chair and empty suit, it is very clear that looking presidential is far different from being presidential!
blahblahyaayaa,
The lies come from Lying Rayna Mystifying Mitt. Why, if Mitt did such great things as governor of Mass. is that a state where Obama holds one of the biggest leads in the polls. The people know he's a lying SOB. You are a fool to think there hasn't been huge lying from the right. Say one thing to a group of conservatives and another to the voting public.
Ido,
Acting as the Commander-in-Chief really go to you didn't it! Especially when wimpy Romney couldn't defend his plans and Obama's are working! Give $2,000,000,000,000 to the military and they haven't asked for it. What does that tell you about Mitt's plans?
Hopefully Blind American! I guess that says it all!
So, Willard is presidential? How many times has he reverse course during this campaign season? Now all of the sudden he endorses President Obama's foreign policies (I wouldn't have done anything different...just better). It should be clear to anyone who cares to see, Mitt Romney will say anything to get elected...anything. And now that he is being well handled by GW Bush's Neo-Conservative adviser, we should know what to expect.
If you liked GW Bush and his foreign policies...you'll love Mitt Romney.
Obama: The epitome of condescension and arrogance:
"We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. And so the question is not a game of Battleship, where we're counting ships."
What an ass. Mitt Romney was far more presidential and showed throughout this campaign that he has more class, didn't lie like Obama backers did to try to get re-elected, has a FAR BETTER TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS, something Obama never had, and is better qualified to be President.
If you are still for Obama after all of this, sorry, but there really is no hope for you. You obviously based your decision on Obama's "rock star" status rather than on his results and where he is taking this country: downward. And if you think 60,000 to 150,000 new jobs per month is good, think again. That's not even enough to hire all the high school and college graduates each year, let alone those on unemployment. Pretty sad, don't ya think?
Obama tried and failed, and it is time for change. Please vote for Romney in November.
Mitt was definitely out of his comfort zone. It is clear that he is extremely uncomfortable with foreign policy. His Nixonian sweating and autonomic ticks told me all I needed to know. This guy was holding on for dear life. Mitt reminded me of Obama in the first debate. Luckily he can always resort to buying more voter-intimidation billboards, having his family buy more electronic voting machines that don't have receipts and engage in other fun practices rarely seen outside of a dictatorial Junta.
Is this change you can believe in? For me, I say no thanks:
Over 8% unemployment for a record 43 months in a row! It's now said to be 7.8%, which still stinks. Oh, BTW, they didn't include California in the totals, which has over 10% unemployment. Duhhh. So, it's still over 8% folks.
Over $16 trillion in debt and counting? He increased it five trillion rather than reduce it five trillion as promised.
Over 14% unemployment for blacks.
Anemic economic growth, year after year, after year.
No budget for the past three years as required by the Constitution.
A healthcare plan that will cost over three times what they said it would, was opposed by over 60
% of the population, sucks $700,000,000 out of Medicare to help pay for it, and wasn't even read by any member of Congress that voted for it? How could you vote for a bill you haven't even read?
Solyndra FAIL and cover-up (or at least no due diligence) that cost taxpayers over half a billion dollars.
FAILURE to protect our embassy in Libya resulting in the deaths of four Americans, and the cover-up afterward.
Fast and Furious FAILURE, resulting in the death of a boarder control officer and the cover-up by the Obama administration. Holder held in contempt of Congress.
This presidency is a failure and it is time for Americans to realize it and vote for a man that is highly qualified to lead us out of it, Mitt Romney.
PLEASE help us and do what is right for America: Vote Obama out.
What a wasted thread. Most of the post is talking about everything but politics..ohhh look at his demeanor, look how calm he is, check out his stare, wtf does any of that have to do with the issues being debated.
A lot of comments here being made about Obama being angry during every debate. That shows that not only Romney but his followers don't understand debating. Obama was angry because Mitt didn't debate. In a debate rule number one is you can't outright lie that was debate number one. That's why Obama interrupted Romney so much in the debates because one must call out the lie immediately. In a debate rule number two is you must state YOUR OWN positions and beliefs. In debate number two hard right Mitt did not show up moderate Mitt showed up for the first time ever. So Mitt never stated his positions moderate Mitt did his. Moderate Mitt was not invited to the debate. If Obama loses the election moderate Mitt will not be taking office hard right Mitt will. In debate number three Mitt lied and agreed with Obama more than he disagreed with Obama on foreign policy and tried to state his own domestic policies and bring up Obama's domestic polocies all night. The debate subject last night was FOREIGN POLICY NOT DOMESTIC POLICY.
sirie,
I'm so sick of hearing Romney has a plan and now Ryan has a plan in his latest ad. campaign, yet what is their plan? Romney and Ryan are so used to lying that they tell a conservative group one thing and then the voting public another. Romney's math. for getting rid of the deficit is to close loopholes that is it. Congress will decide what to cut and you know the republican House is not going to cut anything. If they cut all the loopholes it will amount to .05% of the debt! Get real! You don't cut a deficit by giving the Pentagon $2,000,000,000,000 more dollars that they haven't asked for. Oh, Romney's math. is off by $7,000,000,000,000.
David Gregory is blatently pro Republican. Tim Russert is spinning in his grave.
Chuck Todd is denegrating the President for accurately saying that the military uses less bayonettes than in 1917. We still use horses too, but a lot less of them. How much does GE corporate influence these 'reporters'? Gregory is a 1%er and probably Todd as well, so it is in their personal interest for Romney to win.
I was really stunned at Romney's lack of understanding of the Iranian and Syrian situations.
1) Syria is not Iran's "path to the sea" as Romney stated. Look at a map yourself. All of Iraq is between Iran and Syria and the Mediterranean Sea and there are two "seas" adjacent to Iran itself. It was an idiotic statement.
2) Syria is NOT Iran's only ally as Romney stated. Lebanon, Russia, Afghanistan, North Korea,, Venezuela, and Iraq are all allies and numerous smaller "countries" such as Oman are very close allies as well. Countries such as India would say that they are also Iran's ally (and NOT the ally of the US.)
3) Iran is fully capable of marshalling considerable resources on behalf of Assad and his failing government. The problem for Iran is that right now they simply do not have the cash to spare because of the sanctions and the massive inflation and shortage of foreign exchange that are being caused. If Iran tried to prop up Assad as the US propped up Mubarak in Egypt, they would find that Syria would be a massive cash drain for the next 30-40 years.
4) Iran is NOT a country that Israel can just freely bash any time it wants. If you look at that same map from #1, you will see that Iran is much larger than Israel (about 1.5 million sq km versus 20 thousand sq km) has a larger population (7.5 million with 25% Arabs versus 79 million for Iran) and a larger economy ($283 billion GDP versus $1 TRILLION GDP.) Iran is well outside of Israel's sphere of influence except for nuclear missiles. Israel is outside of Iran's sphere of influence except for both conventional and eventually nuclear missiles. Any war between Israel and Israel would ultimately go nuclear because it is such an uneven playing field that eventually Iran would always win otherwise. This is just reality versus the IDF invincibility fantasy. After the last war betweenEgypt and Israel, all the militaries of the world realized that all the Arab countries have to do is make it a war of attrition (the same conclusion Grant came to to end the Civil War) and Israel will always lose. And slinging nukes is whay losing countries are always predicted to do.
5) The big loser in Syria, regardless of what happens with Assad will be Russia. The US military has over 2,000 overseas military bases. Russia has one --- at Targus, Syria. That one base is extremely critical to Russia because their largest warm water naval force is the Black Sea Fleet. Turkey demonstrated in WWI just how bad this is by sinking most of the Russian Fleet that tried to transit the Bosphoruys and Dardenelles. Targus is Russia's insurance against bottling up the Black Sea Fleet in the event of hostilities. If Assad loses, the Sunnis will not allow a Russian base on Syrian soil. If Assad were to win, Syria will be so crippled and the Turks so sensitive about border issues, that the effectiveness of the Targus base will be compromised. And the Assad relationship and the Targus base was something that Putin has used a great deal of political capital to support. Political capital that Putin is seeing diminish every day and that he can ill afford to lose.
Romney is waaaaay in left field with his poor knowledge of very complicated area and the ramifications of US intervention or sabre-rattling.
@Ed-2874315-I totally agree. I have only watched MTP 3-4 times since the great Tim Russert died. Gregory is a card carrying, partisan Republican hack. Just like Tom Brokaw. He throws nothing but pathetic softballs, apologies and parsing for Republicans. But complete hardballs to Democrats. He is a complete disgrace to the legacy of Tim Russert, and objectivity of his predecessors. I'm glad MTP ratings have tanked on his watch. I don't plan to ever watch it again as long as he is the host. And I used to watch it religiously, every Sunday. NBC needs to dump him before it's too late for that show.
On another note. You all do understand that NewsCorp pays internet goons and stooges to disrupt and takeover progressive blogs don't you? They change their names constantly, but use the same disruption tactics and hate provoking writing styles. Very easy to spot. For example: Elliot, Sirie, and Jody from paid/hate blog world jumped on this thread right away. And loaded it with offensive lies, distractions and bullshyt that they knew was not representative of views of the vast majority of commenters over here. Their filthy and disrespectful attitudes are natural over at Fox. But only creates anger here (their objective). Consider the racist tone of Jody's first comment. Towit: "Mitt Romney has the proper image" (white) of her racist perception of a president. Who cares about her profain vanity! All about fluff instead of facts. Style over substance. Good qualities for a whore! But not much else. She and the others are just ghouls and trolls with many names on Progressive blogs. I take their comments with a grain of salt. As they are free to take mine.
Hopeful American,
"I didn't say that Romney looked presidential (although he does), I said he responded and behaved presidential."
I won't argue with your perception of Romney except to say that to me he neither looked nor acted presidential, and that is what I meant by the power of our preconceptions to affect our perceptions. Your mind obviously operates on a totally different set of preconceptions than does mine, and you should never underestimate the power of the mind to influence what we see. I think to a large extent, people see what they want to see. To me, Romney looked desperate and frantic to get elected and made a lot of empty statements about a lot of things he knows nothing about. It's a matter of psychology, I think. Some people say, "I'll believe it when I see it, but, "I'll see it when I believe it" is more often the case.
Romney abandoned all of his right-wing neo-con positions in favor of saying "me too" to virtually all of President Obama's foreign policy positions.
News flash for the conservatives: If Romney were to win the presidency Barack Obama would not be there to tell him what to do. Now there is a dilemma, right?
Almost all of Romney's foreign policy advisors (something like 17 out of 24) are the same neo-con warmongers who were advising George W. Bush in his war-of-choice, shoot-before-you-aim poor choices that led us into the wars that we are now ending successfully.
One of the very important messages from President Obama during the debate was that we have to be consistent in our foreign policy, to declare what we intend to do and follow through. Governor Romney, who has zero foreign policy experience and almost no foreign policy knowledge frequently changes his mind on his foreign policy positions and, worse than that, blabs his opinions to the world press before the facts of the issue are even available.
Loose cannons and low information presidents do not make good commanders in chief.
More one liners from Obama, more condescending remarks and more interruptions when Romney was calling him out on his OWN actions. Sure, the President won that debate...if we are keeping score on lies told and hand gestures made, then I would agree...the President beat Romney hands down. I do wish that Romney had been more assertive, but then people here would have complained about that also....a poster above got it right...it IS difficult to debate someone when all they do is lie.
I also read earlier today the President is STILL touting the auto bailouts successes. Except we are going to be paying for THAT also for years to come...thank you Mr. President for handing BILLIONS to companies with no structure, no measurable benchmarks and ultimately no clue.
According to the latest Special Inspector General for TARP's Quarterly Report recently submitted to Congress , GM, Chrysler, and Ally Financial have repaid only $35 billion of the bailout funds to date. This leaves $44 billion of taxpayer funds unpaid.
In theory, some of that will be paid back when the Government liquidates its 32% share in GM, its 6% share in Chrysler, and its 74% share in the former GMAC. The problem is, if those shares were sold at current market prices, the net proceeds--about $20 billion--would saddle American taxpayers with a $24 billion loss. Did you see how the market opened today? I think the 24B loss is a conservative estimate.
I dont know about anyone else, but I would rather give the US Military money to prepare for whats on the horizon, than to bail out an industry who shot themselves in the head.
I know last night was about Foreign policy (something the President was CLUELESS about four years ago), but without cleaning up our own backyard first, how can we worry about anyone else?
Govt_Issue
Try to keep up with what is going on before you make rash and incorrect statements. The loans to the auto companies are being paid back to the government WITH INTEREST AND AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. The President's JUDGEMENT to save the auto manufacturers was correct. Governor Romney's position was wrong and he has lied repeatedly about that position ever since it became clear that the President's policy worked.
Mitt Romney shows poor judgement on economic issues, poor judgement on foreign policy issues and poor judgement on social issues ...... and he constantly changes his positions after the fact. We need a President, not a Monday-morning quarterback.
With Romney as President making poor choices like he did with the auto industry our economy will not even support the military we already have, let alone the foolish $2 trillion additional expenditure that Romney proposes.
So I still didn't hear what Obama's policy is for Isreal...except for "we will stand behind them" What does that mean? When the moderator pressed him, he folded like a cheap suit. I still didn't hear about why Obama now embraces sanctions against Iran when they were fighting against them. Where is the logic in that? People talk about not knowing much about Romney, but how much did we know about Obama in 2008, and more importantly, what's his plan now?? He should have been the "expert" but he appeared to be just as clueless as he was back in 2008. While both candidates had some misquotes and errors, it was Obama that appeared all geared up for a fight and Romney was cool and collected.
Oh, btw...Mr. President..we do still use bayonets...just wanted to let you know, since you thought your "zinger" was so clever...
Some say Willard looked presidential last night....Willard swung that far left huh?
Willard swung so far left last he took a poke at Tag for Calling Obama a liar...
JK1963,
"So I still didn't hear what Obama's policy is for Isreal..."
I think both Romney and Obama said entirely too much about Israel. I think they mentioned Israel at least 17 times. How many times did they mention Europe? None! How many times did they mention Asia, aside from China? None! Latin America? None! I'm not against Israel, but frankly I got sick and tired of all the talk about it. Doesn't any other country count or deserve our attention besides Israel?
Mickey,
While it is true that Europe and the other countries are important, Isreal is the only country threatened with annihilation by Iran and other Arab countries. No other country in the world faces those type of threats and challenges. So if you are content with watching a steadfast ally be marked for extinction without America having a "plan" other than to say "We stand behind you...", Obama is not your guy to reassure those folks here that have friends and families living in Isreal.
JK1963,
"While it is true that Europe and the other countries are
important, Isreal is the only country threatened with annihilation by Iran and
other Arab countries."
You have a point there, but I don't think it is entirely true. Europe and even Asia
are really not that far from Iran, and I while Iran's missiles are short range missiles right now, it is just a matter of time before they will have long range and even intercontinental ballistic missiles. Here is what one source says:
"Since 2008 Iran has launched multistage space launch vehicles that could serve as a test bed for developing long range ballistic missiles technologies. Iran may
soon be able to test intercontinental ballistic missiles by 2015."
http://www.worldtribune.com/2012/10/19/irans-grand-strategy-has-not-changed-replace-u-s-as-dominant-mideast-power/
So even Europe, Asia and the Americas have a lot to fear; not just Israel, and Romney needs to bear that in mind.
Mickey,
Nice exchange of viewpoints...it's somewhat refreshing. I will agree that both candidates need to address the issues of foreign policy. Romney is unproven, but just four years ago, Obama was in the same shoes as Romney, and yet people still gave him a chance. I'm not arguing either way for either candidate, however, Obama has been as shall we say, "not as close" to Isreal as other past presidents, and given the unpredictability of Iran and the overall lack of a cohesive front from other countries in eliminating Iran's nuclear threat, it's an almost certaintity that no matter who wins in November, the proctection of Isreal and the manner in which to deal with Iran will have to be at the forefront of America's foreign policy.
JK1963,
"Obama was in the same shoes as Romney, and yet people still gave him a chance."
Yes, but Obama has been a hell of a lot more consistent in his positions than Romney has. Romney can't seem to remember what he stood for just a month ago. Do you really want to put a man who is that unstable into the White House with his finger on the button that launches our nuclear missiles?
Mickey,
I'd feel a whole lot safer with Romney in the White House than having "ol forgetful" Joe being second-in-command...
JK1963,
"I'd feel a whole lot safer with Romney in the White House than having "ol forgetful" Joe being second-in-command..."
I guess you would rather have Ryan as second in command, and the elderly and infirm eating dog food and dying in the streets while the fat cats on Wall Street further line their purses. Can't you see that we will be heading under the "leadership" of Republicans in the same direction that India has already reached, with a handful of billionaires thriving on a population of over a billion rag pickers? It's your choice, of course, but you and everyone else are going to have to live with the consequences of your choice.
Mickey,
Please point me out all the indictments for these fat cats that supposedly raped America? Obama had sworn that individuals would be brought to justice, and yet Holder has refused to prosecute anyone. Add to that people buying iPads and iPhones like they are going out of style and guess what they are being made in China by people making fraction of what American workers make here. So why isn't there a boycott?? Add to that, Obama has the CEO of GE to his "inner" circle on how best to help America. The same GE that paid ZERO Federal taxes and yet raked in billions of profit. So when you want to "blame" someone, perhaps you should look to your own party, because from the viewpoint of the average tax payer Joe, there is no difference. You want to make a distinction, but in the end, Obama is no different than Republican. The only difference is that Obama wants to give you a lot of lip service...

Don, those aren't MY numbers. I didnt pull them out of thin air. This is the report made by an unbiased Government agency. I figured that any facts brought to the table that didnt paint a rosey picture of this administration would be met with attacks, and thats fine. My question is, how much have you read/heard about this issue that DIDNT come from the WH Press Secretary? The 'with interest and ahead of schedule' has absolutely nothing to do with the loss the American people are going to take. Im simple economics. The bailout was a blunder....just like Solyndra, just like the LG factory in Holland, MI. This President does not have any answers to fix the economy, and before we can even PRETEND to help the rest of the world, we have to clean up our own back yard.
I might suggest you take a look at what's 'going on', instead of just looking for a (D) following someones name.
Govt
The fact is that the loans are being paid back ahead of schedule. Why are you complaining, other than just your regular bash-Obama-no-matter-what strategy? Who suggests selling at a loss? We can wait and sell at a profit.
You are clearly looking very hard to find whatever information you can use to criticize the President. Why not concentrate on the debt that will result from Romney's half-baked and unnecessary tax cut proposal? Why not analyze his justification for increasing the military budget?
don,
The FACT is with the stock the American people are stuck with, we are going to LOSE over 20M dollars....I think the bigger question is, why arent YOU complaining? I wouldnt be bashing Obama, if he had a clue about job creation, the economy or business in general. He has zero experience with any of those issues....and relies on his advisors who have failed him miserably.
We had Billions of dollars of OUR money just handed over with no measureable benchmarks, no guidance and ultimately no clue.
BTW, I just realized I had a typo. Its not 20 milllion, its 20 billion. My mistake for not proof reading before hitting post.
Govt
You believe Romney when he says that rich people need more money, then they will create jobs. That is absurd. No one hires anyone, with the possible exception of a relative, unless they have a reason to expect that new employee will make more profits for them. I can understand why Sheldon Adelson, the Koch brothers and their super rich friends support Romney. Lower taxes will give them even more money. People like you who make (I am guessing) less than $250,000 per year after deductions are dupes, lackeys and water carriers for those who have used your gullibility and lack of information to make you their allies.
Don,
I believe that Romney is the lesser of two evils in THIS election. I believe the Republicans could have done a lot better by nominating someone other than Romney. If it werent for his isolationism, I would have voted for Ron Paul. I believe that President Obama's advisors have failed him, and the President does not have the knowledge or experience to made educated decisions on his own when it comes to the economy.
I dont have very many issues w/ the Presidents Foreign Policy...it mirrors Clintons. I do have a problem w/ the way the escalation of force was changed in Iraq after he was elected (I was there during the last election), I have a problem with appeasement and handing money over to people who would do us harm. I had the SAME issues with every President since Reagan. Foreign policy, for the most part is the same from President to President. Defend democracy, support Israel, try to keep China and Russia in check and dont let the middle east's problems spill onto our shores.
My problem with President Obama is the economy, jobs, and anytime someone dares to question him, the condescending remarks. I cant criticize the Presidents policies without being called a racist, or a Tea Bagger. I am not an idiot birther, or someone who doesnt like him because he's black, or a Democarat.... my problems with this President are with the way he handled our money. He had a golden opportunity to truly turn the economy around and he blew it.
I truly do not understand how anyone who looks at this from a non partisan way can defend the Presidents record. You call me gullible and a lackey...I am not the one who turns a blind eye to the last four years.
Why to conservatives criticize the President's program when it is very clear that they have blocked a substantial portion of that program. An example is the jobs bill that was submitted to the Congress about 18 months ago and the Boehner House of Representatives turned it down because it called for a modest tax increase on those individuals with incomes over $1 million per year. Why is it that Republicans believe that lower taxes are more important than paying down the debt, solving the unemployment problem or maintaining our quality of life?
I was a beneficiary of the economic safety net that the Republicans are out to destroy. In the mid-seventies I moved to California, jobless, because my son had a birth defect-related need for surgery. Although I had health insurance I needed temporary financial assistance. I was given food stamps and general assistance (welfare) for a couple of months during which time I became employed and began paying taxes. I finished graduate school on the GI bill and advanced. Long story short, I payed substantial taxes over the next four decades on family incomes in many cases well over $100,000, and now pay taxes on my IRA savings as I withdraw them.
Republicans campaign on the notion that "takers" are lazy and undeserving of assistance. I am proof that the economic safety net works. Those who would destroy that safety net are uninformed (lazy), mean-spirited, divisive and undeserving of our votes. Obviously, we need constant vigilance to ensure that our economic safety net is not creating a class of takers, but accusations that current recipients of aid, especially during this economically trying time are disgusting.
I would be happy if, after destroying our nation's economy and thrusting us into two deadly wars, JUST ONE PERSON from the Republican Bush Administration would step foward and say the single word we have not heard yet:
SORRY
President Obama wanted to keep the conversation away from foreign policy and for good reason; look at what is going on in the Middle East and how he neglected to visit with Netanyahu. He was childish, rude, angry while Romney was focused on how to strengthen the US economically and with regards to foreign policy. Before being elected in 08 he had absolutely no experience with foreign affairs; he was a Community Organizer. Of course, after 4 years of advisors and being prepped on how to blantantly lie to the American people with a straight face with the help of seasoned liars like Bill Clinton and John Kerry as well as Joe Biden he seemed to know a little something of foreign policy......just NOT NEARLY ENOUGH.
Goodbye President Obama, your time is up.
Actually, It was Romney who kept returning to economic policy. He was wayyyy out of his league in foreign policy. The only time he looked comfortable talking about it, was when he was agreeing with President Obama.
For most of the debate, Romney agreed completely with what Obama's policies, indicating that he has almost no original ideas. But he also showed those flashes of complete ignorance of the regional situation and human nature when he blustered on about there being 'all this tumult' in the middle east. 'Tumult' has been happening in the Middle East for most of the last centuries. But 'tumult' is now happening because people of the middle east are demanding freedom and overthrowing brutal dictators. Naturally there are competing sides among the rebels - if they were united they would have never been ruled by brutal dictators in the first place. And naturally some are more likely to be friendly with the US than others - they've been subjected to anti-US propaganda for years and in many cases the US was "friendly" with the dictators they're now overthrowing. And naturally they're all likely to tell us they'll be our allies whether they will or not - they want the weapons and support as they vye for power. And naturally the major world powers are not all united on every decision - the stakes are high for all of them and almost any decision carries some possibility of catastrophically destabilizing rather than stabilizing this historically unstable region. So far, Obama's made the right/bestdecisions on where to get involved and how. He's made the right/best decisions on where to put pressure and where not to. He's managed the Israel relationship perfectly - strengthening the relationship and security while holding them back from taking catastrophically destabilizing actions. (Oh yeah, Romney talks about leading, but seems like he would let Israel lead us!)
And we should elect a man that ran off to France when their was a war going on?
Don't be surprised if Willard (if elected) ask the President to be Secretary of State
ROMNEY AGREED SO MUCH LAST NIGHT WITH PRESIDENT BAMA, THIS MORNING ROMNEY ANNOUCED HE WAS BACKING PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
Good news for Romney, China called and asked Romney to be the leader of China since he has become the job provider in chief for China!!!!
Vote President Obama/Biden and Team America 2012
Mr. Romney is a threat to the World, every time he teared up talking about World Peace, give me a break.
Some are so unintellegent that they don't understand there are things to agree on. But for the way to get our respect back and grow our economy and place back in the world obamy is clueless. We need to vote the biggest terrorist this country has ever known. Bye bye obamy.
Romney hires 17 of 24 Bush advisers.....the same failed crew who brought you the lie in to Iraq war for war profits for Haliburton, Cheney's company. The same failed crew that abandoned thousands of troops in Afghanistan, to take most of the troops and supplies to lie into Iraq war, causing Afghanistan to be the longest war ever. The same failed team that brought you thousands of our troops dying and being wounded , and thousands more still dying from their wounds.....and Romney wants to pretend this war profit team is a peaceful seeking team?????
VOTE PRESIDENT OBAMA AND TEAM AMERICA 2012, protect America!
I think it was clear that Romney was going with what worked for him recently, that the election is a referendum on the economy more so then anything else. We heard him speak of education for jobs, taxation for jobs, manufacturing for jobs, military to jobs, and even foreign policy leading to jobs. I think his campaign must have said to him that the President would come in every way possible to provoke him and to remain calm. For that I think he did. Do I think he could have taken on the President over many topics, yep. I'm a bit disappointed in Romney's tow the line technique on this one.
The President was clearly needing a game changer and was going in swinging. Do I blame him, no. Do I think his foreign policy has been good, no. To me there was a lot of revisionist history there- Egypt's ok (but run by the Muslim Brotherhood), Libya was a success (though their arms are all over the black market, their new government appears to be going anti-west, and we lost our diplomat via terrorism there), Israel is our allie (but the President pushed them to reduce their territory to the 1967 borders, chided them for their actions with their neighbors, and didn't meet with Bibi and Achmie when he had chances).
Let the voters speak now and let's move on.
Hey Chris Matthews and Rachael Maddow, can you say President Romney?
I have a feeling Obama may appoint John Kerry his Secretary of State for his second term.
OMG- Kerry- just when you think things couldn't get worse!
@dezhawaii What debate were you watching? What experience does your candidate have on foreign policy? Please stop it with the community organizer. Your candidate has a degree in Law but never practiced it, I can see why because he wouldn't have been good at it.
Charlie,
"He tried to be more right than Newt Gingrich last summer."
That's right. It was just recently that Romney described himself as "severely conservative". Those were his own words. And now, all of a sudden, he is "moderate". How does one go so quickly from being "severely conservative" to being "moderate"? That can only happen in Romneyland where anything Romney says is true.
@Clotho,
Bill Clinton has dropped major hints that his wife will remain as SoS for the first two years of a second Obama term. She has been a major success as Secretary of State and it is valuable resume experience that no Republican candidate will be able to match.
@dezhawaii,
The topic of the debate was foreign affairs and that is one that always favors the incumbent. In fact, several GOP commentators have been asking how stupid you have to be to allow the last debate to be about foreign policy. It is simply a mine field for a non-incumbent who has tremendous intelligence, military, and diplomatic resources at his disposal. But the "community organizer" thing is just bogus GOP trash-talk. There was never a time when Obama made his living as a "community organizer." He did organize small job programs for a few months, but at that time he was making over $100k a year as a senior lecturer on Constitutional Law in a lily-white conservative law school.
Confussed,
Need I remind you that we elected a president (twice) that went to England to evade the draft and famously said..."I didn't inhale..."
0bama tried to pull a Biden again and just came off as unhinged and unpresidentiail.
He never answered a question straight, he would talk about anything but the question for 2 minutes then at the end try to restate the question to pretend he was on topic the whole time.
This guy is a total disaster and rank amateur.
Right...that's why the majority of people think he won the debate. You Republicans really are delusional. Are there unicorns where you live?
you mean the media, you can put as much lipstick on a pig, its still a pig. The media claimed obama won the second debate but not reflected in the polls. Who's the delusional one?
elliot just because you shout your b.s. in bold doesn't make it true. Romney lost the last two debates, he's a millionaire bully who would throw you under the bus the first chance he got. The first thing he's going to do, after he repeals all of Obama's desperately needed healthcare gains, is slash healthcare for all Americans. Sound good to you? Oh, and about medicare- want a worthless Romney voucher instead? Sound good to you? Romney does not care about the average American- never has, never will.
Says a CasualUSTaxPayer in bold!!!
Romney looked like he was ready to have a nervous breakdown.
Too bad the polls don't agree with you:
7:39AM EDT October 23. 2012 - President Obama won Monday's foreign policy debate in a pair of instant polls, one of them decisively.
In a survey by CBS News, 53% awarded the debate to Obama, to 23% for Republican Mitt Romney and 24% undecided.
An instant CNN poll found a closer closer contest, with 48% favoring Obama and 40% going with Romney, and the remainder undecided.
BS............Elliot.. Romney is weak, and a total waste.
Pretty funny towards the end when Romney was caught flip flopping and he started writing something down .....looking unstable and delusional.......I have to see that clip again....the guy was losing it right on cam.....
Elliot, I have to call BS with your post. What I saw from Romney last night was someone who couldn't handle pressure. At a few points in the debate, I thought he was going to pass out or spaz out because his face was bloodshot red and he was sweating like he so badly needed that water that Ryan couldn't seem to put down during his debate.
Romney had 2 bad nights and coincidence is not a factor anymore. Voting for Romney = Standing for nothing and falling for everything.
I suppose the Obama administration also hijacked Twitter and and other social networking sites since they were also leaning heavily towards Obama being the clear winner.
Yes, everyone is wrong except for Fox News and talk radio. If that's your bubble, then stay in it and be happy, but don't be surprised on Nov 7th when you find out how much of a small minority you really are in.
The last straw for me was when Romney lied about his 2011 taxes. He has said previously that anyone who paid more than he owed on his taxes was "not fit to be President." But then he refused to release his 2011 returns until the last minute. But during the campaign, he constantly said that he never paid less than 14% overall in taxes on earned income (he doesn't count capital gains, most of his income, as "real" income.) But when pressured, he finally released the 2011 taxes, months after they promised. And the idiots looked at them and saw that he was indeed paying around 14%. The only problem was that it was a false tax teturn. He "forgot" to claim $2.5 million in deductions to which he was entitled. And his campaign has steadfastly refused to state that after the election that Romney will not file an amended 2011 return, claim the "forgotten" deductions and get a massive refund and a rate that is under 8%.
And Romney required ten years of tax returns from every vice-presidential candidate, including Ryan, not just the two, one a false filing, that he made.
You can argue that not taking all his deductions is legal. It is. But it is still every bit as much filing a false return as it would have been if he had claimed $2.5 million in deductions to which he was not entitled. Just because something is a lie and is legal does not make it right.
The 2010 returns showed that he was moving assets into his wife's name and closing secret Swiss bank accounts and creating another level of Cayman Islands shell companies to not only avoid paying taxes, but to avoid the American people knowing how he did business.
And if Mitt went to all that trouble for just his 2010 and 2011 returns, what is he hiding in the other eight years that he refused to disclose? Honest people simply do not go to that lengths to deceive. I am with Will Rogers, "I am honest because I am lazy. Deception is just too much work." There must be a lot there to hide for Romney to do so much work to hide it.
Mikey...did you know that when you do search on...Fox News dumber....you see actual studies that show people who watch Fox news are actually dumber after watching it?
It's true....that's Fox News dumber...see why people are actually dumber after watching Fox news!!!!
Randy,
And I bet you think Obama won the first debate, right?
starsailing, did you actually read the report? I didnt think so. They dont exactly paint a rosey picture for those who read MSNBC either. Once again, someone who cant get past the one liners to see the actual issues.
If they where going to make this about domestic issues they should have mentioned the 170+ workers in Wisconsin that are loosing their jobs because they are being shipped to China by a Bain Capital subsidiary! Romney should have been asked what he stands to gain?
Romney doesn't work there anymore.
However, 0bama owns about $100,000 in stock of the Chinese company that bought the Wisconsin company.
And Romney owns millions in investments overseas...is that really going to be your argument?
It wasn't supposed to be about domestic issues was it? It was foreign policy and Romney bombed. Remember when there was a war going on he ran to France. How does that make the rest of the world see us as having strength?
I wish they would ship Romney to China, they can have him.
I invest in Apple, so that means I'm investing in China...
Elliot....nice lie....been all over the real news stations the last 3 months, Romney owns 51% of the company they bought from Honeywell that was making a profit!!! So good he is taking it to China and would not meet with the workers who are still trying to save their jobs!!! Romney would not stop it!!!!
Why should Romney stop it, even if he could? Are you saying that Romney made the decision to move this company to China? Where is the proof of that? You don't believe it is the compaines decision how they operate? People lose jobs everyday due to jobs being shifted overseas, jobs being shifted to other states for that matter. Is the president suppose to step in everytime someone gets laid off? Why didn't president Obama step in and bailout all those companies that went under during the recession?
VA.....kinda hard to search that one yourself huh, or maybe read a paper....or the web news....but no ......don't expect to find it on Fox news.......You missed how the people who were losing their jobs , and how they had to teach the Chinese their jobs before they got laid off......It is called...current events.....try some!
Boromir,
No it makes you a hypocrite for blaming jobs going overseas and yet supporting a company that uses cheap labor in China so you can have your iPad and iPhone...
Obama is supposed to know more about foreign affairs because he has been the President for four years. Actually the key role in dealing with foreign affairs is the Secretary of State. So far Hillary Clinton has done a good job for the Obama administration. Teamwork definitely outweighs personal likability rating.
Yea her state department did a great job with those requests for additional security for the Libya conciliate...
Hillary has gained the respect of our allies again, which was destroyed under the fumbling Bush idiot. Romney would take us right back to the embarrassing days of Bush. Though Romney does try to make the Chinese happy, he sent so many of our jobs over there.
Romney thinks Syria and Iran share a border!
Romney would likely name Karl Rove as Secretary of State............now what will that get us? Maybe the real need to spend that 42 trillion for more defense, $5,000 toilet seats and a few more new airplanes and aircraft carriers to scare the Russians and Chinese. The thought of what Romney would actually do about all of those problems he sometimes refers to REALLY scares me
ELLIOT>>>WHY DID REPUBS CUT FUNDING FOR SECURITY FOR EMBASSIES ETC?
They were hoping to be attacked just like it happened. They cut funding and it happens, then repubs point the finger at the dog as if the dog farted!
@elliot,
I simply don't understand why the Republicans, and especially Ryan, cannot man up and admit that the GOP House (who appropriates all funding) cut $300 million from the security budget for US embassies and consulates around the world. Lots of embassies have had lots of requests turned down for the simple reason that the fiscal year ended on the last day of September and not only was the security budget for 2010-2011 depleted because ot was in the closing days of the fiscal year, but that very security had its funding slashed as "unnecessary" by House Republicans.
And requests for additional security or for security upgrades, etc do NOT go to Obama or even Hillary Clinton. They go to the Assistant Deputy Undersecretary for Consular Affairs' security analysts. These people try to do a sort of triage where they attempt to get scarce funds to the places where it is needed the worst. These days, virtually every embassy and consulate is requesting additional security funds to prepare for unrest, to improve technical security (such as cryptography) and to replace outdated security systems. Additionally, the embassies are a frontline in cyber-terrorism efforts and that is a new threat coming out of an old budget line. The problem is that the embassy security folks must assume that an attack could come against any one of the 2,000 or so embassies and consular offices around the world. What money is budgeted for security must be spread among them. The bad, guys, however, can concentrate all their resources on one Embassy, such as they did in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Your logical abilities are about equal to your spelling.
star,
So what has that got to do with protecting our diplomats in a highly charged area like Libya? Trying to equate one to the other is silly at best. Please don't try to tell me that you are going to use THAT as an excuse for Obama getting an honored diplomat killed...
JK1963,
"Please don't try to tell me that you are going to use THAT as an excuse for Obama getting an honored diplomat killed..."
Obama did not kill him. The terrorists did. Remember?
Oh...so now it's a terrorist, silly us, Obama was saying it was all a YouTube video...and perhaps Stephens and the special op team wouldn't have been killed if Obama's administration had listened to his requests for additional security! Explain why the ambassador to France has a larger security detail than Stephens had in a war torn country like Libya??
JK1963,
"Obama was saying it was all a YouTube video..."
That mistake would have been easy to make in the confusion of the moment since practically the entire Muslim world was up in arms at that time over that video. Republicans are just grasping at straws to get their man Romney into the White House, and if he does, it will be a disaster for America.
Easy to make?? Espcially now that we learned that within two hours of the attack Obama's administration knew that it was a bonafide terrorist attack and not some spontaneous riot that got of hand by students that just happened to bring RPG's to a protest, right? And, it wasn't just "after" the attack, but days since when Obama even mentioned the supposed "YouTube" video at his address to the UN...surely someone must have told Obama by then that the cause wasn't a "YouTube" video.
Why have a debate for where the challenger says I agree with what you're doing? Pathetic on Romney's part.
So now because Romney can't give a good performance we have to say that Obama was "too angry"? I like having the President fired up and giving a solid performance to counteract all the lies and half truths directed at his foreign and domestic policy.
0bama looked like a crack head with his crazy eyes, clenching jaw and random outbursts.
Maylanta, will do the trick
elliot is an idiot, and an embarrasment to this country, speaking of the president like that. elliot and Romney probably have many traits in common.
Apparently Elliot was watching a rerun of The Wire. The only times Romney veered from his stump speech was to agree with what Obama is doing, except that he would have done it "sooner." Which, as the President patiently explained to the neophyte, isn't as easy as it sounds.
I lost track of how many other countries Romney spoke for
Elliot...that wasn't president Obama you were seeing...you were looking in the mirror shaving weren't you?
"0bama looked like a crack head with his crazy eyes, clenching jaw and random outbursts."
In the famous words of many children "It takes one to know one."
They way you are describing Obama is exactly what I saw from Romney. Obama was very cool, calm and collected. Romney is the biggest crybaby I have ever seen and it has been shown in ALL THREE debates.
starsailing and all of the other Obama lemmings really need to take a breath and relax. Most, if not all of the legislation that Republicans voted against and that you point out as proof that the Republicans are only in it for the money or to bash women or whatever are too brainwashed to look beyond the headline for the reasons for those votes. The Democrats love to stuff non-related items in these bills and then dare the Republicans to vote against them because, on the surface, it might look bad. And you fall for it all the time. And by the way, notrocketscience, Syria is Iran's outlet to the open sea as long as they're allies - you missed the point completely. You confuse scouring the internet with intelligence but you refuse to think about what you read. Any moron can read his favorite news site and read what he wants to read regardless of what his politics may be. If you can't see that America is in trouble and Obama and his supporters just keep blindly walking toward the cliff then there's no hope for you. We're on the wrong path and we've been on the wrong path for a long time that includes Republican and Democratic presidents. Obama's not the cause and he's sure not the cure. I'd vote for anybody besides Obama. All things considered, Romney/Ryan is the only choice is you want even a slim chance to change the trajectory we're on.
@ Tom - After listening to all of the lies and flip flops from the Romney/Ryan campaign, they are no longer an option for me.
Obama/Biden 2012
My wife and I were looking at each other and laughing while trying to make the "fish face" Romney was making when he figured out very early he was way out of his depth. Go back and look at the debate. At one point very early in Romney was grimacing like he wanted to sneak off the stage and his face looked like a grouper gulping for air. He was also wet enough from sweating to enhance the effect.
@Jillibean83--opposed to all of the lies our current president has told the American people? People love to point out that Romeny was not in the military, well neither has Obama. Obama had no prior experience with anything before being elected for who knows what reason. His ideals are detrimental to the American people. He has embarassed our country by trying to shame us to foreign dignitaries. Obama makes his own rules without a thought of what is legal or not. You really have confidence in this man? Obama should no longer be an option for any person at this point. The breaking point? The complete and utter disrespect he show the American people who were killed in Libya that he tried to cover up. That is certainly presidential.....
Romney has shown more disrespect to the family of those killed in Libya just by politicizing off of the tragedy. Romney has had personal request from family member telling him to stop using their tragedy as a political gain. Romney is coldhearted and hotheaded. Not a great combination for someone running for office. This man can't stick to anything he says so I have no substance to go on to even begin to trust him. He represents nothing about me AT ALL.
Please explain to me how the president disrepected the American people after the attack. How is investingating a terror attack a cover up? I'll wait.
Jilli,
If you think that Obama won the first debate, then you are as crazy as the rest of the loons on the left. No one, except Obama groupies thought he great, and even Obama himself admitted that he did poorly. So your rose colored reality just doesn't wash... Romney was the cool and collected one... Oh and by the way, you should write to Obama and let them know they still do you use bayonets. In fact it's still required training...
JK1963
You are really picking at straws because I would be the FIRST to admit that Obama lost the battle in that first debate. No arguments. But the funny thing is, I haven't said anything about Obama winning the first debate. Never. I call a spade a spade regarless of how it would affect what I believe in. Would you admit that Romney sucked a@@ in the second two debates? Didn't think so.
Secondly, Obama didn't say we aren't using horses and bayonets, he said we are using LESS...I see conservatives only listen to what THEY want to hear. And in your case see only what they want to see because you have misquoted me all together but I am ok with clearing things up with you. I bet you won't admit that was a priceless zinger that Romney or Ryan couldn't come close to after trying so hard in the first two debates.
Romney and Ryan are NO match for Obama/Biden.
Jilli,
I would agree with the general consensus from the polls taken that Romney did as well as Obama in the second debate and did not do as well in the third.
And also, last I read that every solider is issued a bayonet. Now if you are asserting that we now have less soldiers than we did back in WW1, then your argument is valid. You see, I did listen to what Obama said, and he clearly misquoted regarding bayonets. He was although correct about horses, but by the time Obama's misquote gets corrected, it wasn't much of a zinger.
You see the problems with Democrats is they tell us what THEY want us to hear, not the truth. Take for example, Obama is now out with a new campaign commerical with this outright lie...
And hate to break this to you, but then please explain why Romney/Ryan are in a virtual deadheat with Obama/Biden? Clearly, half of America doesn't suscribe to your assertion that Romney is coldhearted and hotheaded.
JK1963,
"You see the problems with Democrats is they tell us what THEY want us to hear, not the truth."
Which is, of course, the "truth" according to Republicans and their mouthpiece, Fox News. I think Pontius Pilates' question to Jesus Christ was a very good question: What is truth? Especially, what is truth in politics where passions and favoritism run high?
Mickey,
You must have confused with someone that gives a rat's behind about what Fox or for that matter your beloved NBC thinks. I see reality and I see a party on the left thinking they know what's best for us. They walk around supposedly "enlightened" but yet they can't see their own hypocrisy if it hit them in the face. You whine about companies offloading jobs to other countries, but yet, as a nation you can't live without your iPads and iPhones. If you don't want to stand for something made in America then don't whine about it being made somewhere else. If America can't compete in a global marketplace, then perhaps we should go bankrupt. Obama wants to spend even more money under the premise that it creates jobs. How about living within our means for a change? And before you throw the ol tired "Bush" did it excuse, let me remind you (since you left liberals seem to always forget) that Congress was controlled by the Democrats 2006 going forward. And before you whine yet again about the cost of the war, need I also remind you that Congress (including the current resident in the VP chair) voted budget year after budget year (unlike the ahem..budget we have now) to continue renewing appropriations for keeping the war going. Now if all these "enlightened" Democrats are so smart, how is that they couldn't figure out where the cost of war was going?
JK1963,
"I see reality"
I bow to your wisdom, O Enlightened One. I can see clearly now that you are another incarnation of the Buddha. The universe holds no secrets of which you are unaware. I should have know you were the Tathagata. How could I ever have been so stupid! :)
I thought Romney was suffering from constipation from the looks on his face.
What I really wanted to see is Romney's son run up on stage when the President said "that's not true Governor Romney" No balls now or for the military!
Romney was brilliant. It was important for him to avoid the "warmonger" tag, and he did so by keeping cool. Some pundits were critical because he did not go ballistic with Obama in return, however, those are not the votes that Romney needs. He already has those. He played it perfectly.
Romney was so cool he avoided every tag.
Brilliant?
Now that he knows pakistan location, he will ship more manufactoring jobs there, brilliant
If by perfect, you mean sweating profusely, agreeing with everything the Obama administration has done, and talking over the moderator, than yeah...perfect.
I expected him to get up and run to France! If it gets to tough he can run to Mexico like his Grandfather did.
Romney was brilliant at changing his tune. He ought to be: He's had plenty of practice.
I don't think Jody actually bothered to watch the debate.
7:39AM EDT October 23. 2012 - President Obama won Monday's foreign policy debate in a pair of instant polls, one of them decisively.

Jody, I think it's hilarious how you robotically repeat this praise on Romney throughout these threads. How many times are you going to cut & paste this same line?
So LYING through one's teeth and distancing yourself from every position you've ever taken over the last 18 months = brilliant? No wonder you up tighty righties don't like education.
Confussed,
Perhaps you should ask Clinton why he ran to England to avoid the draft...well...it was probably to chase some skirts...
Vote Romney!
The Mormon vs. The Moron
What the hell were you Republican’s watching??? Rose colored glasses and too much whiskey; made you think Romney did great. Clearly Obama won the debate hands down. Romney took his Foreign policy and flipped it into Obama’s great and wonderful job. Romney left his balls at home and just agreed with the President; which is so not Romney’s real take the last year. The economy always goes up and down. This depression we are in, no one, not one person could of saved us from the perfect storm of no regulation, and greed, the greed of everyone. This is not our depression, it is a world depression. Romney, Clinton, McCain, Bush, Reagan, whoever could of never pulled us out of this depression any faster than Obama has.
obama inherited a recession and turned it into a depression honey
John....
A depression includes a lower unemployment rate, a rising stock market, increased home construction, and increased exports? I guess you failed economics class if you ever took one in high school.
I was watching a boy, Obama, getting his AZZ spanked again!!!

Shut off the porn and wash your hands, go have some breakfast!
If Romney is the last Hope, I'll rather vote for Pluto
did you think that on you're own or was mom helping
Is illiteracy a common thread within the far right-wing crowd? Yes, John, I'm addressing that question to you.
MG......Illiteracy is a TRUE common thread in the general constituency of the Democrat Party. Have you seriously ever taken a good look at those "voters" yapping on YouTube and our nightly news about how they lub dey 'Bama-phones, and ain't nobody gunna take away dey Foodstamps, and Welfare checks. Yeppers...those are YOUR CONSTITUENTS. The DimoCraps BUILT THAT, and OBAMA ADDED ON SOME MORE FLOORS!!!
moderate...you're from Madison....that says it all!
I don't think I have ever been so
disgusted with the American capitalist system as I have been now.
From domestic to foreign policy both candidates have entirety miss

Yah nothing spells "creates jobs" and "improves the economy" like removing the programs that keep people in the economy as contributes, followed by taking away the jobs of a ton of people.
Hike it up: Name calling always signals bully to me. so I thank you for the opportunity to reply. However, I choose to use it to share my impressions of the debate last night.
I took notes: Here goes: "Mr.Romney seems to be in a bubble. He (r) is agreeing to everything Obama says has been done, but talks overPresident Obama's statements. He seems to think that we can't hear the president saying "its' already being done, bucko."
Mr. Romney, If our president is doing so well, as you reminded me, why should I return to back alley abortions and gung ho macho land with its endless sword rattling -- like your threat to China on your first day in office? Macho men are like horses and bayonets -- things from the dinosaur days, guy.
But here is my halloween treat: Tell us all how you will force our nation's billionaires and trillionaires to pay their fair share of taxes to help us close the deficit and I will try to believe that you give one small sno-cone in Hel* about the 99% of us.
Don't bother to flame or bash me. I'm a military vet; I don't wilt easily.
BTW, My vote goes to President Obama.
Romney was cogent, focused and spot on. Clearly a superior performance.
Focused and spot on thinking about how those jobs were doing that he was shipping to China that very moment!
Why doesn't Obama know that we still use bayonets? Or why don't the comics around him, who wrote those lines, know this? Interesting pantload of diversion. Maybe Obama should visit Quantico and check it out.
If you check the transcript you will find that President Obama said we don't have as many bayonets and horses as we had in 1916, not that we have none at all.
This is what happens when we have two men that have never served a day in the military. One doesn't know squat and the other runs to France to avoid the draft. Neither are fit for the government let alone the Presidency. We need men/women that know how to serve and have shown it! It's a sad day when one claims the other is showing the world we are weak when both are just as weak as the other!
Confussed.......anywho confused....Bush failed to kill Bin Laden and quit...
ROMNEY SAID IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE AND WOULDN'T"T LOOK FOR HIM. President Obama and team America killed Bin Laden.
Romney flip flopped and said he would have made the same decision as President Obama.
aaahahahahahahah he already said he wouldn't look for Bin Laden...the LIAR! CAUGHT ON NATIONAL TV LYING AGAIN!!!!!!!!
No the Navy Seals did. If you read up on the Seals, they were upset that Obama took credit for the raid. Also, why did it take him about two weeks to make the decision? I also have to comment on one of your above posts, I served under Clinton and remember a briefing about Sadam , what a threat he was and his WMD's. Clinton was a Democrat right? All Obama has done was weaken this great nation. I really question your choice; I am a deputy I have seen crime go up. I have also seen more and more people dependent on
welfare. The other night I responded to a domestic in a trailer park. The first
thing I saw was a n Obama sign. When I was leaving I looked around and saw all kinds of Obama signs. Now, keeping that in mind as I patrolled through the
night I also noticed that most of the middle and upper class had Romney signs. I think the choice is obvious. Romney 2012
Yes, the Navy seals took action when they got the "orders" from the Obama camp to go ahead. So in other words "Obama and team" did catch Bin Laden. Can't you republicans give credit where credit is due?
OUR president has done a lot for this country in the last 4 years. It's just TOO much for republicans to admit. These are the same people saying Mittens won the last two debates. They are obviously in denial or just down right delusional.
What has he done in the last 4 years? I have seen a decline. As I stated above, more crime, more welfare. Credit? sure Obama said after two weeks ah, yeah, ah go ahead and do the raid. Do you think he had anything to do with the planning? Really his vast military experience, oh yeah none.
No...What you saw was America fall to rock bottom and slowly trying to dig out of the mess that we were in when Obama took office. The thing I see with a lot of conservatives is that you all want quick fixes over night and for things to be done right they need to be done at a slow rapid pace.
I lost my job in 2009 but I was able to go back to school, get two degree's and get a better paying job in the private sector. Although things were horrible for me the first two years, I am not going to BLAME the president because blaming others for your personal failures and misfortunes is the same thing as denial. I got my ars up, dusted off and kept it moving. For a long time there were NOOOO jobs but I have been noticing a HUGE differenct in the demand of employee's.
Even though things got really rough for me, they eventually got much better and for Mitt Romney to look at us 47% as moochers was extremely offensive.
So yes there is a lot of people using foodstamps and need government assistance but think about how much HIGHER the crime rates would be if those programs wasn't there to help those who has fallen on hard times. I know I have needed the help before but I never intended to stay on like some of those who choose to abuse the system. Expand your horizons some and I think you would understand the situation a lot better.
Sorry, I don't see that. I arrested someone a few weeks ago, he was drunk (among other things). I had to
listen to him all the way to the jail. He doesn’t want Romney in office because
he is afraid he will have to get a job. He doesn’t want to work. I see that a
lot, more every year. You went back to school, that is great, who paid for it?
On Day 1 of a Romney presidency, he will need to include Geography 101. Syria is landlocked and provides no route to the sea for Iran which has its own sea coast. There must not be any places in the middle east where one can hide their millions. Romney knows how to make money, but he lacks curiosity about the rest of the world and about history. In 9 houses you would think there would be a map.
He has a map of France, which is where he spent his youth while dodging the draft! He has one of Latin America he mentioned it quite a few times tonight almost as though he has family down there and he wants to make them rich off of our trade goods. Not only does he like to ship jobs to China but Latin America is his next conquest. He is after all a citizen of Mexico, why not be President of both countries before he dies?
Romney looked high on crack or something. That sickly grin and constant blinking was unnatural. He's really uncomfortable being called a liar to his face, which he most definitely is. He is little more than a rich foolish republican puppet. The GOP would love to see him elected so they can pull straw man's strings for 4 years.
That anyone seriously believes this guy, or in him, or in his so called unexplained and completely undetailed "plans and policies" is beyond belief. If you're to believe him, on "day one" in office he's going to implement some 500 changes. He either has a time machine or he stepped out of one.
Rumor has it he wet his pants backstage afterwards.
Fantastic, that must have been what I heard he was crying about. Either that or the next flight to France is booked?
And Obama was caught snorting "delusion" both before and after the debate. Predictable incompetence on Obamas' part again. Can't debate, and sure as hell can't tell the Truth. Checked any of his "Facts" this morning??? ALL LIES!!!! What else is new with this clown . BTW, clown supporters.....Obamas' street gibberish and bullschit have never won a single point. They have only served to demonstrate that the man is out of his league when there is no 'prompter available.
You can't yell ALL LIES and leave without providing a few examples.
You are not a moderate, not in Wisconsin. You are a moderate ONLY if you live in a rwnj area. Madison was and is a strong support base for the late George McGovern, and definitely not rwnj land.
Obama came across as an angry little punk. In fact, he is. Sarcasm and belittling seem to be the punk's mantra. The problem for Barry is that some of us with triple digit IQ's know his Kool-Aid contains poison.
Face it punk, there are 4 dead americans in Libya because your eye is on your golf handicap. Face it punk, you have never engaged in anything in the private sector that ever contributed to society. And lastly punk, your incessant need to grow the government such that it consumes the average american is foolhardy.
Well, here's my dose of irony for the day; someone claims a triple-digit I.Q. (not that that's all too impressive) and proceeds to reveal a third-grade-level grammar.
Punk? Wow - that's like calling him a gangster or a hoodlum. Sounds kind of racist to me.
@choco
I thought the same thing. Sound like these FOX new's RWNJ's are on a roll today. I just wish they could re-open the Fox news comments sections to they can all wallow in their misery and denial together. Having to reduce to name calling is laughable. But that seems to be all they have.
Republicans seem to be extremely hateful, controlling people.
"...those of us with triple digit IQs...". Yeah, funny how everyone gets online and suddenly they're self-declared F'ing geniuses. Anyway...
It's funny that all the things in your little rant are easily, demonstrably, verifiably more true about the last Republican in office: dead American's on their watch, presidents taking breaks, increasing government spending. I'm sure your superior intellect is aware of that and the need to try to cover it up. Looking forward... funny that you guys like to make hay with any sign of Obama taking a breather, but Mitt takes a vacation after each debate, evidently to relieve that stress he's under that his wife has commented on.
P.S. It's nice to see the RWNJ's liked the KoolAide analogy enough to try to use it themselves, but they seem to forget it stems from a story about a Mid-west religious nut who murdered a senator rather than answer his questions about the welfare of his "people," and who kept millions in secret Swiss bank accounts.
President Obama said we have fewer horses and bayonets, he didn't say no bayonets, so your niy-picky little point, EPIC FAIL just like Romney's debate!
Breaking news- Romney endorses President Obama foreign policies! And his math still doesn't add up, tax cut's and Military spending.
President Obama showed everyone why he deserves 4 more years, and Romney isn't ready for the WH, Romney once again tried to control the debate like a CEO, well Romney we don't need a panderer in Chief! Flip-flop and get off that sit and spin, because your face is red and you are sweating profusely.
Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up?
President Obama sunk Romney's battleship! LOL
Way to go Mr President! O&JOE
Clearly, the President won the debate, while Romney floundered and rambled on with his answers, which were in agreement with the President.
When Romney accused the President about China and jobs, the President should have reminded Romney that BAIN CAPITOL, whose CEO is Mitt Romney currently closing the Sensator plant in Freeport, Illinoiand sending the factory, along with the jobs to China.. The workers were made to train Chinese workers who were brought to the factory. When they arrived, the plant took down the American Flag.
Over the last 20 years, Sensata operated at a profit. That plant profited over 500,000 dollars this second quarter. The workers were fired, lost their retirement pensions, loss medical insurane along with their jobs. Over 200 jobs shipped to China.
In the debate, Romney said he was proud of what his father did for the auto industry, yet Sensata, the plant that manufactures sensors of the automobile industry is being shipped to China by Mitt Romney.
Romney is a bald face liar. Americans are not buying what this flip-flopper is selling.
Ask Romney if he has ever invested his riches in America with American workers? See what kind of an answer you will get. Romney will never admit all the factories he has closed to enrich himself the last 25 years.
Joanie24, How many times did Obama lie in remarks during the debate? Take off your rose colored glasses and listen.
Chris Matthews and Rachael Maddow, can you say President Romney?
Jody is a Faux News blogger taunting MSNBC. How funny!
...it wasn't a debate! it was more like my two grandchildren fighting, with one always shouting over the other. obama's boorish conduct reminds me of my undisciplined, out of control, grandchildren, and the moderator reminds me of my son and his wife who are unable or unwilling to contain their children. i have heard that obama's conduct was suggested by clinton; THAT figures! and after watching the conduct of the moderators, it seems to me to be time to change the format from reporters eager not only to get a story but to become part of the story to debate coaches who will maintain some sense of fair play. and i think both candidates are wrong in one respect: the biggest national defense problem facing this country is the $15 TRILLION national debt!
So what did you think of Romney's rudeness to the moderation and the President of the United States?
I am with Mitt Romney! He has exhibited great courage and forthright understanding of all matters...whereas Pres. Obama is seeped in slick, overly confident warlord mode. Govenor Romney has persisted with humanitarian ideals, and a firm understanding of our needs with China and the middle east. My understanding of an area that is threatened with Drought, starvation, and disease....like the middle east....is that as a people they will go with God and use religion to protect those things of the universe that they do not understand...and they will always fight...because their lives are threatened and they are in danger...we in the United States have not experienced these hardships in the manner of the Middle East peoples...I think Mitt Romney has a better view of what is necessary to move all of us forward. Obama knocked out Donald Trump with a few slick well staged moves and a few humorous stage props, however we have a Govenor who is willing to take the challenge and has not backed down...he is bringing us around to realize another way of moving forward. I am with Mitt Romney...or else I will write in Al Gore! He truely understands all of our environmental dangers. Our greater threat is our environment and what we are doing as global communities to correct our water and our air systems...it is not just about trade, foreign policies, religion and a party of one kind or another...we need to jump forward and become better people...God with due diligence has been working on us for 300 million years...he has not given up. We are just slow to learn, and change and get it!
God helped Obama get elected last time around, He'll do it again.
Do you seriously want to vote for a Mormon, who doesn't believe the Bible is the only true word of God??? The Mormons whose founder was a fraud?
of'bama has that angry black dude attitude down to a science. Not the guy I want in office...petulent, sanctimonious, baby...
@ Reality
Angry black dude attitude? You're kidding right? Romney is the biggest crybaby in in the political game right now. Obama made Romney sweat by calling out his millions of lies and you say it comes off as an angry black man? I don't think you have seen an angry black man.
Mittens came off as an angry, sweaty, flustered crybaby WAYYYYY out of his league. My three year old has a better argument than "wait, it's my turn, I didn't get all of my time, he's making fun of me." Mittens showed us what Romnesia was in the flesh last night and you RWNJ's can't seem to digest that this man will now work for our country.
I couldn't believe Obama didn't call Romney on his outright direct contradictions to his own statements in the first debate. Far too silent. Then a black friend pointed out that if Obama called him on those things, and showed any emotion, righty-whities would be calling him, "another angry black man." Wow. Nailed it. You seem to have left out "cocky" too, Reality Check. That's another code word that often gets used for any black person who DARES to speak their mind.
Merrily: I can't believe you didn't get the memo. You can't say 'moving Forward'!!!! That's communist code speak. GADZOOKS!!!
In other news - I just can't separate Mitt's performance from Cartman on South Park. Arrogant schemer and a bully, until he's challenged and then he cries and hides behind Mom's skirt.
Can someone please tell me where Lynn, FL is. Hmmm, maybe it should show at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fl.
Btw, Go Romney!!!!!
Nothing about Romney adds up, in fact Romney is the most prolific fip-flop-flipper & then flip again to EVER run for President of the United States. Romney is no longer truthful, we simply can not depend on what he says to be factual.
He has Flipped on Health Care, He has Flipped on Medicare, He has Flipped on Taxes. He has Flipped on Pro-Choice and he keeps on Flipping anytime he believes he can make political points by Flipping.
Even though at least half a dozen fact-checkers and websites have refuted Romney's lie that President Obama is removing or reducing the work requirement for welfare recipients, the Romney campaign continue to repeat this lie over and over. See:
politifact.com "Romney Claims Obama Ending Welfare Work"
And pick a fight he did that he should have known afterwards he was the clear LOSER! On his heels the vast majority of the night and Netanyahu was shouting in glee all night at Mitt trouncing Barack. Yes Prez, you have blown it for only the ignorant, who must have their stamps and free/reduced services. You blew it like you blew the four murders in Benghazi, you have blown our recoveries and you have sealed your exit from office. Mitt ate his lunch and other two meals!!
Yeah whatever. Don't forget- Many Israelis don't care for Netenyahu. He's a warmonger of the Bush mold.
Mitt Romney has had more sides than a Fun House at a Carnival, and this debate was another clear example of that. Once again, he flip-flopped his positions on virtually every issue regarding National Security so that it mimicked the President, and even when he tried to criticize him, he was still saying he would do the exact same thing.
As the President pointed out, flip flopping and not having a clear, concise, position on foreign affairs is a sign of weakness, not his ordering the killing Bin Laden or his showing the support of the overthrow of Muammar al-Gaddafi.

Then, Mitt Romney showed he had no grasp of military needs by realizing that we are moving from old steamships to nuclear subs and drones, and how these items save taxpayers trillions of dollars we can spend at home.
I would add that when Mitt Romney tried to circle this debate back around to the economy when China was brought up, the President reminded him that he was the one who was investing in companies in China and outsourcing companies to China and that he wasn't willing to support the bailout of the auto industry, which Romney tried to deny, but has been debunked, even reluctedly by his own campaign after the debate after pressed by the media.
This was a clear and dominant win by the President, and showed that Mitt Romney has absolutely no business being our Commander in Chief. showed he had no grasp of military needs by realizing that we are moving from old steamships to nuclear subs and drones, and how these items save taxpayers trillions of dollars we can spend at home.

Thats funny.
Yeh, Glenn...and Romney literally destroyed THAT BULLSCHIT in his retorts. Secondly, FactChecker virtually tags the pretend prez with a MUCH LONGER NOSE this morning. Most of what the prez spewed was nothing more than garbage and lies. But that is always Obamas' tact. "Throw it out there and see if it sticks. If it doesn't I will just deny I said it, blame it on one of my aide servants, or find someone to throw under the nearest BUS!!!".
