Obama casts Romney as unseasoned on foreign affairs

President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney discuss foreign policy in the third and final presidential debate.

UPDATED 11:30 p.m. ET -- President Barack Obama repeatedly ridiculed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s foreign policy views as dated and haphazard in his third and final debate with his Republican challenger, who in turn accused the president of diminishing American leadership during his first term.

Vote in our poll: Did the last debate influence your 2012 decision?

Obama took advantage of incumbency to remind voters throughout the 90-minute debate of his experience as commander-in-chief, and Romney’s lack thereof. The former Massachusetts governor, meanwhile, sought to project a deep familiarity with vexing global issues.

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

The debate, held just 15 days before the election in the battleground state of Florida, veered at times from its stated emphasis on foreign policy and into issues of the economy and the budget – topics on which Romney holds an advantage over the president in most polls.

President Barack Obama (R) listens as Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney (L) speaks during the final U.S. presidential debate in Boca Raton, Florida October 22, 2012.

But Obama sought to do to Romney with foreign policy – disqualify him in the eyes of voters – what his re-election campaign had tried to do on Romney’s economic proposals. The president openly mocked Romney’s suggestion, for instance, that Russia is the top geopolitical foe of the United States.

"You seem to want to import the foreign policy of the 1980s, just like the social policies of the 1950s and the economic policies of the 1920s," he said.

Andrea Mitchell and NBC's Truth Squad examine claims made by each candidate at the third and final debate of the 2012 presidential election in Boca, Raton, Fla.

Obama also derided Romney’s vow to grow the size of the Navy as indicative of the GOP nominee’s dated views toward national security.

"Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military's changed," Obama said. "We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. And so the question is not a game of Battleship."

The president says credibility is what’s important in dealing with world affairs.

Romney used his time at the debate to more broadly accuse Obama of presiding over a period of diminishing American leadership abroad.

“In nowhere in the world is America's influence greater than it was four years ago,” he said.

The former Massachusetts governor also voiced directly to the president an accusation – that Obama had apologized for American values – he has made throughout the campaign.

The president says a strong economy at home will strengthen the U.S. overseas during the third and final presidential debate of 2012.

“You said that on occasion America had dictated to other nations,” Romney said. “Mr. President, America has not dictated to other nations. We have freed other nations from dictators.”

That attack prompted Obama to respond with a blistering characterization of Romney’s own trip to the United Kingdom, Israel and Poland this past summer.

“When I was a candidate for office, the first trip I took was to visit our troops. And when I went to Israel as a candidate, I didn't take donors. I didn't attend fundraisers,” Obama said in reference to a fundraiser Romney held while in Jerusalem this summer. “I went to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum there, to remind myself the nature of evil and why our bond with Israel will be unbreakable.”

Obama’s tough rhetoric, though, betrayed his campaign’s outward confidence amid a series of national and battleground state polls suggesting the election had tightened to a dead heat over the past month, since Romney’s strong performance in their first debate on Oct. 3. Republicans argued that the president’s posture was that of a candidate who has fallen behind Romney over the past few weeks.

Romney used a number of opportunities to steer the debate back toward domestic issues, on which the former Massachusetts governor has mostly staked his campaign. Romney got an opportunity to recount his five-point economic plan, and his direct-to-camera closing statement emphasized the economy as much as foreign policy.

The Republican nominee also largely declined to make as sharp of a case about Obama’s handling of the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Romney has used the administration’s response to that incident to make up ground versus Obama, but scarcely dwelled on Libya – the opening topic of Monday evening’s debate.

The Republican presidential nominee says America must take a leading role in promoting U.S. values during the third presidential debate of 2012.

Romney also tried to dissociate himself with Republican hawkishness, refusing to engage a hypothetical question about Iran’s nuclear program, ruling out a military strike against Libya and stating the U.S. “can't kill our way out of this mess” as it relates to al Qaeda.

The debate’s tangents offered Obama other opportunities to go after Romney. The upcoming “sequester” – the automatic spending cuts, particularly to the defense budget, set to take effect at the beginning next year – prompted the two candidates to renew their squabbling over Romney’s tax plan.

And Obama – whose decision to extend federal aid to Detroit’s troubled automakers in 2009 has become a pillar of his pitch to voters in Midwestern battleground states – eagerly pounced on a tangent involving the auto industry to criticize Romney.

The Republican nominee also largely shrugged off Obama’s attacks as obfuscatory.

"Attacking me is not an agenda," Romney said early at the debate, at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.

Whether Monday’s debate would provoke a thinning sliver of undecided voters to make a decision was another question, to which the answer wasn’t immediately clear following the debate.

Both Obama and Romney had arranged major rallies with their running mates on Tuesday so as to project momentum in the closing two weeks of the campaign. Both campaigns left Boca Raton with a self-professed sense of confidence, validation or dismissal of which will come on Nov. 6.

Bush said he wasnt concerned about binladen and Mittens said it wasnt worth it. WEAK! WEAK! WEAK! Under Obama most of the leadership of alqaeda has been taken out. And just who got a memo saying saying AlQaeda determined to stike inside US. Richard clarke told worst Weezie Rice that #1 concern would be Alqaeda. WEAK,WEAK,WEAK!

Obama is trying to restore foriegn relationships that Bush ruined because he needs all of the countries to stand together against the companies that will not contribute to thier countries. Romney wants to ruin the relationships so that companies can stand on thier own and not contribute to their countries. Romney benefits from war, Obama doesn't. Notice how the infrastracture isn't being taken care of? Government can't do it alone. This is what it's all about, period.

Obama is right, meet opportunities and challenges with an eye to building friendships there into future without making a huge footprint or staying in countries for decades longer.

More defense spending, no taxes on the wealthy or regulation of banks and corporations, and no abortions? I don't like what Republicans have been doing and saying, and I don't want a these Republican candidates put together with a Republican House of Representatives and appointing an even more conservative Supreme Court. Obama is all about plans and has had a 2013 budget for awhile. My point on the coach thing is that he is stating the obvious on how they will do good.

We spend more than most of the countries combined on defense. There is room for cuts. We are light years ahead of every country.

Romney says our influence is receding overseas. He claims we have tensions with Israel. We don't, except Netanyahu is more nervous than we are. Romney over-reaches the truth and makes claims with the benefit hindsight. President Obama tells people (and Mitt) what things are like and how things currently work in the world, it isn't perfect...but Mitt isn't going to improve it.

Obama* is trying to take credit for things that were in place before he got into office. Like the Mission to get Osama Bin laden and Sanctions Against Iran, and the tests of the progress of students in schools in america.

Obama is such a BSer. He did an apology tour that was an insult to every american and to our allies.

Obama thinks that alqieda is weaker just because they are waiting for us to leave and then they will try to re-establish themselves like they are doing in iraq now.

Obama* lies. "it is not a tax", no it's not. It is a penalty if you don't buy what the government tell you to buy.

Here's "Day One Mitt" again...he's going to be a very busy fellow on "Day One" if he get elected and tries to do the things he says he'll do on "Day One".

Mitt did more than "watch for years" as American jobs were being shipped overseas - HE was shipping them there. I think the President wants to continue to increase trade with China and maintain mutually respectful, peaceful, relations into the future. But I think the President has an eye to pushing manufacturing in this country that Mitt misrepresented. Obama was much more friendly to American business than Mitt suggested at the time.

Romney talks about the food stamp rise , but never mentions that all but 4 states had been granted waivers from the work to welfare law before Obama came into office. This is why the foodstamp increase happened, the number also includes young adults struggling that are eligible for three months.

The deficit was already at 1.3 trillion annually when Obama took office, with a predicted 8 trillion $ increase over the next 8 yrs.The deficit has been rising at a breakneck speed since 1982. ie It was here before them it will be here after them, you can only tame it, I do not see any one stopping an increase.

With a record 500+ filibusters, PLEDGES to NEVER generate more cash for the government, ZERO compromises, voter suppression and intimidation, voting NO on every Job bill, creating war on women, and with NO record of any accomplishments or anything done for the country in 40 years.

The undecided voters keep ignoring or are not aware that the REAL culprits behind the slow recovery on the economy and jobs are the "obstructionist" Republicans controlling congress with cloture and filibusters to stop job legislation and halt Obama's agenda to fix the economy.

Only a "super majority" can stop the Republican obstruction of the past 3.5 years.

Obama doesn't have a supermajority, Obama only has the senate by ONE and the GOP owns the house and CONTROLS all legislation.

We have a communication problem if these undecided voters are not aware that the GOP has done NOTHING but get in the way of passing bills to promote job and economy growth.

Remember that the President doesn't pass the bills, he just signs them.

Obama has a 51% approval and has been waiting for job bills on his desk to sign but the GOP losers just won't pass any.

Stop "blaming" Obama. Put blame where blame is really deserved, on the 7% GOP owned congress.

I was stunned to hear Lanny Davis call the debate a draw. He also had ire for both veering off the foreign policy into domestic issues. Hearing disappointment over Libya not being hit again.

The questions to be answered are did Obama look angry instead of forceful, he certainly was agressive.

Romney looked to some to be to agreeble with Obama's postitions.

Obama wouldn't know the truth if it bit him on the a$$! He forced through Obamacare as quickly as possible so, as Nancy Pelosi said "We need to pass this bill so we can find out what is in it!" He and his state department tried to foist an assinine story about "protests" about a 15 minute film that escalated into 4 American's being raped and slaughtered. They just did not want to admit that anyone could still hate America and the Dear Leader, Obama!

He has consistently blamed Bush for our economic problems even though he promised 5.4% unemployment, deficit reduction, and a growing economy IN SPITE of the economic issues we were having! It must be convenient to always be able to blame your predecessor! I never even once heard Reagan complaining about the disaster, economically and foreign policy, that Carter left him! Obama is just a wimp who never can take the blame for anything! He even had Hillary take the blame for not increasing security in Libya! COWARD!!!!!

Obama and the looney left has said that Romney wants to start wars because he wants to rebuild our military after two long wars. We need to project strength, not speeches!

A clear difference in Foreign Policy mind sets.

Romney = A bloated lumbering military, Gunboat diplomacy, carry a really BIG unwieldly stick and make lots of noise. Then blink.

Obama = A smaller, well armed and deadly force, Strategic Asymmetrical warfare, have a credible lethal threat and calmly but clearly stare down your adversary and make it known it will be used.

Romney would plan with a Cold War mentality. Probably thinks there'll be battleship duels at sea in the Pacific and tank battles on the open, frozen plains of Mongolia!

I was disappointed that Romney let Obama off the hook for the fiasco on Libya. Romney mirrored Obama far too much. He flattened out. Romney did do well on deflecting Obama's personal attacks. Obama acted like he was better than Romney so Obama came across as arrogant and condescending. Having the candidates sit favored Obama. Obama over all won the debate. Romney must have decided at the last minute to let Obama get his four more years. I wonder what changed Romney's mind? It could not be that Obama bought him since Romney has plenty of his own money. I will still vote for Romney but I was disappointed with his performance on this debate. I wish that Romney had the courage to take Obama down on the Libya issue. Obama lied for 14 days saying that the deaths was the results of a film protest. This was a well organized terrorist attack which included the attack of a CIA safe house which is supposed to be secret. Obama insisted that it was the result of a protest not terrorism. Obama refused more security to protect the Ambassador and the three others. Romney should have never let Obama get away with these events. Obama blamed the intelligence community for bad information regarding the deaths at Libya. In only a few hours the intelligence came out that it was a terrorist attack. Obama went to a fund raiser rather than talk to his intelligence people and get the usual Presidential intelligence briefing. If it were Reagan, Reagan would NEVER let Obama get away with out taking the Libya attack to task.

"Did the final debate results change who you would vote for" (roughly paraphrased).

Option 1: Yes, more likely Romney

Option 2: Yes, more likely Romney

Option 3: No change

Obviously the poll had to be fixed, but they just went ahead and deleted the whole article, and by extension, everyone's comments. I also noticed there was a strong conservative base in the beginning comments, but that's not allowed on National Barack Channel (AKA NBC)

It's hard to dispute foreign policy with the President - he's been following President Bush's lead and implementing President Bush's plans .....because he's had none of his own?

The President has been distracted, though, with his own re-election. So he didn't meet with the Prime Minister of Israel and went on the View instead; he's urged Russia to wait until the election was over; he's been totally absent in the dealing with the Euro Crisis (granted, with our fiscal mess, he has no credibility...).

Governor Romney at least has the where with all to commend the President on the things he's done right. Whereas the President is still in 100% campaign mode during discussions about serious issues like foreign policy.....and tries to spin the Governor's positions when they should really be focusing on the security of the nation.

But I say it is easier when your advisors tell you that you are losing parts of the voting public with the "tough guy act". He backpedaled tonight, and tried to show a kinder gentler Mitt. Well like I said earlier I will not fall for it.

This is the same guy that allegedly held a fellow student down and shaved his head, because his hair was long. Then blows it off like some school yard prank. Scarring someone for life is no prank sir. I believe he still has these same tendencies, and I can see it when he is knashing his teeth waiting his turn to talk ,when he feels he is being wronged.

Also the next hoo rah speech he makes notice his head go side to side and scan the audience after some feel good remark, to see if they are buying what he is selling, I noticed him doing this last week. Smile, look side to side, are they buying it? Are they buying it?lol

While I'm a strong supporter of Obama I have admitted that I felt Mitt won the first debate,C they broke even or close to even in the second debate, but being the Commander-in-Chief has its advantages and tonight that was very clear as Mitt was run over by a freight train with his shifting stances that were sighted. At times he was laughable! If this doesn't show some shift in the polls then Americans are dumber or more stuck to party loyalties than I imagined. I left the republican't party years ago as it represents nothing that I remember of the party I believed in. Now it is the tool of big business, the corporate world and militarism! I pray to God to wake up Americans to the evils of the extreme right that now has become the republican party that Ike warned us about. "The military, industrial Complex!"

My favorite moment of the debate was when President Obama said the reason the Navy is different now than in 1916 is because back then we had "more horses and bayonets" and now we "have aircraft carriers and fighter jets."

Priceless!

But, let's face it, Gov. Romney walked right into that one. As soon as Romney said something about us having less ships now than in 1916, I thought, "Well ... yeah ... technology is a bit different than it was 100 years ago ..."

And then when the President said, "We aren't playing Battleship ..."

Perfect response!

Is this the type of person that America wants to meet with world leaders and the American people be on pins and needles because we don't know what he might say. He would be an embarrassment. Do we want a worldwide reputation of being dishonest, because I know he will tell a leader of a foreign country (or promise) something and not follow through or deny even saying it. We actually wouldn't know what to expect if this man is voted into office. Why would anyone believe anything he says, he changes his stance according to the situation. I don't know what he stands for and thats a damn good reason he doesn't meet the requirements for the office of POTUS.

For the 3rd time and before millions of our citizens, Romney lied.

He "flip-flopped" and ducked.

Romney has a dangerous view of America's foreign policy role.

Mitt is aiming to send U.S. troops into unnecessary wars.

Romney states that America's goal should be to "bring peace on earth."

His above statement is not logical foreign policy.

Mitt's statement reveals his political naivety and future military blundering. Historically, there has never been a time when the entire world was at peace. The nature of existence is conflict. Thus, Romney is aiming for an unachievable goal. He is aiming for a goal that will cost our daughters and sons their lives, and in other lands cause "collateral damage."

Romney's foreign policy vision will lead to this country increasing our debt, having less resources for our infrastructure and strained diplomatic relationships.

Romney states that America must ["get rid of the fanatical thought process that is in the middle east."] It is not this country's role to be deploy our military to go to these foreign lands and "change the minds" of millions of people, millions of people who have held their religious beliefs for many centuries.

Mitt's above foreign policy stance would put this country in the position of being the world's "thought police."

Romney did state that Russia was this country's biggest threat.

He flip-flopped and says that it is Iran.

President Obama is credible when he states that terrorists networks are this countries biggest threats

Romney stated that he would deal harshly with China.

If Mitt was sincere about rendering China less threatening, he would have severed his business relationships with this Communist country, which aids and arms Iran.

Romney puts profits before people, and this is the reason that he has not "closed the deal" with China.

Romney states we should make Iran a "civil society."

He should tell us how he intends to make the Ayatollah take off his religious cloak.

Obama is right. It is the responsibility of the great majority of nations to take care of their own affairs. President Obama believes in effective diplomacy. This does not mean that we are abandoning human rights.

Diplomacy before bombs makes sense.

Romney lied when he stated that he was for a "managed" bailout of the auto industry.

When Detroit was on the verge of financially collapsing, Mitt's response was to let our automobile industry become bankrupt. He did not care about the blue-collar workers on the assembly line. He did not care about the families that would not be able to pay their mortgages, buy food to eat, or pay for their children's education.

If Mitt truly cared about this country's economy, while he worked for Bain, he would not have "pink-slipped" so U.S. many workers.

When President Obama mentioned Mitt's inconsistencies, Mitt falsely accused the president of "attacking" him.

Romney knows nothing about "statesman" foreign policy!

To work toward prosperity, global competitiveness, and peace, the choice is clear:

Obama/Biden, November 6, 2012!

Obama/Biden, January 20, 2013!

Romney was actually NOT all huggy huggy with Obama. IF you were paying attention and listening with real comprehensions skills instead of hearing the Obama BS tapes your instructed to believe so that you don't need to ever listen to differing points of view then you would understand there were some very basic key differences between BO and Romney. Romney is right in saying we can NOT reduce the size of our military. We absolutely need to be the strongest and best trained and armed nation. We have to be to seen as a leader among nations to have any sway with the countries that hate us. Romney was right in saying Obama appears weak and soft to those that hate us and would destroy us if they could. We don't have to necessarly use that superior might but we HAVE TO HAVE IT TO BE RESPECTED by these backward, hateful, warring nations!!!! Romney is also right in saying that the Obama style sanctions are NOT working!!! We have to be much tougher to stop Iran from being armed with nuclear weapons!! Obama saying that terrorists are on the run and aren't any real threat is plain BS. Proven by what happend to Ambasador Steven and our 3 other American hero's. These SOB terrorists threw this in our faces!!! "Obama, Obama, we are all Osama says alot!!!! Romney didn't even need to take Obama to task for his lies reagrding this incident! Every news station is reporting the same things. The Obama administraton watched events in real time and did NOTHING!!! Ambassador Steven repeatedly warned that trouble was coming and had been asking for help for months before and continued to do so right up until the day he DIED!!!! Intelligent Americans don't need Romney to read Obama the riot act to know and understand this!!!! IN not tearing Obama apart over it Romney proved that he is ready, prepared and able to take on and do the job that is reqiured of the President of the United States of America. Romney did NOT stoop down to Obamas' low level of insulting, rude, belitting and childish behavior. HE didn't need to, didn't have to. Obama just showed all Americans how childish and incapable he is for the job, to lead and to bring ALL AMERICANS TOGETHER!!!! A vote for Obama is a vote to further divide this nation. A vote for Romney is a vote for turning this country around as a world leader, a economically sound country, as a bi-partisan nation working together for the bettermentof us all!!!!

President Obama proved tonight that not only is he is the Commander in Chief and that he has earned and deserves our respect.

Not only is he slowly turning our nation's lagging economy around, and taking care of dozens of issues a President faces on a daily basis, but he is fully in charge of what is happening in the White House and with our foreign policy around the world.

Well done, Mr. President!

And now we see it: The Republicans are mostly religious mutts and bigots.

I've never seen a bigger sap on T.V. than Romney!

He's the same as Bush and Cheney. All for money for the rich and war to clean up with another corporation like The Carlyse Group and Haliburton.

They have nothing in common with NORMAL America. Just the religious and bigoted right.

Real American,

I thought Obama showed great improvement in the knowledge of the military, but what still is alarming is his attitude toward it.

We have to be very careful with military cuts and he was very cavilier about it.

His comment to Romney about "they have these thing called aircraft carriers" comment came off like the chick hicks pit crew to Guido. That will not play well with women.

Yes, our aircraft carriers are the biggest and strongest in the world. Yes we have the most. But they are like fire departments 12 hour 4 day shifts. You only have half the total available at a time. They are supposed to be on 4 months and off 4 months. To handle our needs we had to run the 6 months on and 4 months off.

This left silly crap like the pirates have a lot of success attacking and taking shipping off the coast of Sudan.

In 3 years we will no longer have a numerical superiority of aircraft carriers. We will be dependent on Great Brittain and Australia to maintain equality in numbers and theirs are not as powerful. Three years beyond that we will be behind in numbers.

Going to low in the numbers will invite nuclear war and leave us strapped to answer emergencies.

Our current group of planes are aging. One reason is that the designed replacement failed, the other reason is that age is exposing flaws that will prove the current fleet at risk of being beaten by the newer generations of competitor nation's aircraft. This is a big hole until the new generation design reaches deployment assuming it doesn't flop too.

What a bunch of cheerleaders many of you are...

I wanted the President to ask Mitt about his son Tagg buying stock/controlling interest in one of the voting machine companies who's product will be used to determine the outcome of this election. Why is it not a conflict of interests? Either Mitt should not be able to run for office or Tagg should sell of his interests in that company.

So who does Mitt think actually pays for it when a company goes into bankruptcy? Does the debt they owe magically disappear? NO IT DOES NOT. That was his great answer for the auto industry, have the taxpayers PAY FOR IT ANYWAY. He just wanted the chance to swoop in and make some money off the deal is all. Can he do this with America? NO HE CANNOT.

I bet Netanyahu is not happy with lose lips Mitt. Cannot even keep it a secret that the two of them have been talking...lol. What does that say about him?

Would our economy, government, debt, etc. be doing as bad as it is if the top tax rates were returned to the 70-90% that they were during this country's "golden years"? NO IT WOULD NOT. Why do we let people like Mitt get away with paying only 14% and how can you defend that? They should be paying at least 35%? How much more revenue would that generate if they pay 60% of the income taxes? What effect would that have on our debt?

A tax cut is a revenue reduction regardless of if it adds up to more or less then 5 trillion and can only add MORE to our debt. 2 trillion more for the military they do not need is even more added on to the debt. It only helps defense contractors make even more money off the taxpayers. There is only 1.2 trillion in loopholes and deductions which still leaves a big gap even if all were cut not to mention we are already over budget. We have been over budget for almost 30+ years. Small business also started to decline 30 years ago, I wonder why? Ever since we reduced the top tax rate to lower then 70% our debt/economy has been having problems. Worker's wages started to go stagnant back when the top tax rates were lowered from 90% to 70%. I went into more detail about how systems without taxes or limiting factors FAIL in my previous post/reply in another article, look it up if you want.

Obama kept butting in on Romney while he was speaking. Romney could have done the same thing, but he politely waited until Obama finished his lying and then spoke. Romney was the most Presidential. Obama sounded desperate. Obama has nothing to run on and must lie to the American people, who more and more are seeing through all the lies.

I really hope that people in the swing states of Ohio, Florida, Colorado, and Virgina will see through all the Obama lies and vote for Mitt Romney so this country doesn't really go into a tailspin.

Did you watch the post debate? Romney’s grandson (I think) made a bee line to get to Obama to shake his hand so someone picks him up and then he’s still trying to get to him and then they pass him around and then Romney gets him for about 10 seconds and the kid is STIll trying to get to Obama and Obama knows whats going on and it looks like he’s about to hold his arms out for him and then some unseen arms snatches the kid away and off the stage!! It was priceless and goes along with what you’ve said about kids and Obama… THEY LOVE HIM!! Even Mitts own grandson!!! LOL, this was a great debate… CBS poll — 30 pts OBAMA!!!

Robme has flip-flopped so much that he now spells his name Ttim! I can remember back to when JFK was elected and in all the candidates since, I cannot remember one who changed his position on things as much as Robme has and he does it all without batting an eye. What is scary about him is that he actually expects people to believe that what he says is legitimate. Even he cannot believe what comes out of his own mouth! Lastly, the fact that Robme has to keep "walking back" (flip-flopping) his statements tells me that he will lie to you while looking you in the eye swearing he is telling the truth AND that as far as people who do that, any halfway decent psycologist or psychiatrist would tell you that there is something wrong going on with the mind of that person. Robme will not be the president, thank goodness and the rethuglican party have only themselves to blame. NO ONE ELSE! Let us develop a long-term plan for keeping the rethugs and t-tards out of office for quite a while. They deserve it!

Clearly Romney lost this debate by embracing every single policy of Obama. If, as Romney says, the original is working, why settle for an imitation? Especially when the imitation is going back on everything he has been saying, all the time saying that a leader needs to be clear. Mr. Romney, you are not clear, you do not lead, you follow. You are weak! Iran will run all over you. Please do this country a favor and go back to living off the proceeds of your Swiss bank account. I can top that! I spent 31 years in the military and to have Romney conduct a convention acceptance speech and three debateS and not mention the troops at least once in any of those events is downright disgusting, deplorable and sickening. Obama mentioned the troops at his acceptance speech and in the third debate. This POS of a Romney candidate, who draft dodged during Viet Nam, who's five children cannot see themselves in uniform, who ignores the troops, wants to be Commander in Chief!? I DON'T THINK SO! This rich, spoiled excuse of a human being needs to go back to his venture capitalist world, where "stick it to the employees" is the main objective.

You right wing people may support this POS, but you better hope none of your kids wind up in the military and go off to war. With Romney as president, they can expect crap when they return.

What's even more infuriating is that Romney will spend two trillion dollars of tax-payers' money on weapons systems that the military hasn't asked for--so he can fatten the wallets of his defense industry CEOs--but doesn't seem to give a crap about the troops.

Anyone here that comes back on this post with "thank you for your service" and then vote for Romney would be handing all military people and veterans the worst insult possible.

RealAmericansFirst

Has anyone bothered to add up how much all that military hardware Mitt wants would cost?

I thought Ryan said we can't afford Medicare anymore.

Personally, I'd rather have Medicare than another 100 battleships.

Hmmmm, if you want Medicare maybe you need to be willing to either pay more for it or privatize it.

A typical couple retiring last year will, on average pay about $150,000 in Medicare taxes over their lifetime. The problem is, they will receive more than $350,000 in benefits.

Even you predominantly illiterate Libbies can calculate this disparity. If this isn’t enough, how about this little factoid?

Last year, Americans paid $274 billion in Medicare taxes and premiums. At the same time, the program paid out $564 billion in benefits. That amounts to a shortfall of roughly $290 billion. Looking into the future, even the most optimistic estimate by the program's trustees puts Medicare's future unfunded liabilities at more than $38.6 trillion. More realistic projections suggest the shortfall could easily top $90 trillion.

So, what do we do about that? You can confiscate all the wealth in our nation and not cover our ever-growing Unfunded Liabilities.

Of course your typical, irrational, knee-jerk reaction is to blame the usual bogeyman, the Military Industrial Complex. One of the Constitutionally mandated requirements of our government is funding the military.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say to pay for health care. Please don’t embarrass yourselves by claiming the “General Welfare Clause”, the “Commerce Clause”, the “Necessary and Proper Clause” or any other bastardization of the Constitution, none of them work.

Just because Barrack Hussein doesn’t believe our Constitution is a “Charter of Negative Liberties”, doesn’t mean you have to lower yourself to that level.

Now, if this doesn’t convince you of the dysfunction of our criminal government that all you Liberals worship, there’s a very simple solution to funding everything our government should do, even retaining Medicare.

Eliminate the $750 BILLION we lose to waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in our health care system EVERY YEAR!!!!!

Simply correcting this massive loss of our tax dollars would provide 150 MILLION Americans with $5,000 of health care insurance EVERY YEAR!!!

Please stop complaining about our Constitutionally required functions of government while it is so incompetent at taking care of our hard earned tax dollars.

Every year we waste what it costs to run our military because of another failed Progressive wet-dream that doesn’t work effectively, efficiently or affordably.

Your priorities, as usual, are misguided.

Stop worshipping at the altar of Big Government.

It’s ripping you, and every American, off and you don’t even realize it.

The President came across clear, concise, strong, authoritative, capable, decisive and ardent..

Mitt came across confused, weak, meek but clear about his NEW stance for the day....which, when he was not agreeing with the President, was rather woosie...I saw no backbone...no strength...

Integrity, credibility and strength are key to foreign relations...Mitt showed none of these traits.

Our allies have got to trust what we say we will do and our enemies have got to trust we will do what we say..............I doubt if any of allies or enemies were watching this debate they were neither feeling Mitt was trustworthy nor a force to fear.......

President Obama IS our commander in chief...........and the world knows it.

@ JimSpence,

How do you come up with a cost of $350,000 of coverage? At what age do you calculate that number to? Are you taking into account people are living longer? How long and if they are living longer is that because they are healthier? How many of those people have retirement or have saved for retirement? That's a lot of questions I know, I'll give you a few hours to figure them out. Being a Romney supporter I realize you may be a little slow.

One year when Yogi Barra was preparing his team for a world series, his hitters were in a slump, someone ask him who he was going to start and he said, "we are going with them that brung us". He was staying with his lineup of the players who got them into the world series.

This election really begs the question of who do you believe? President Obama came from a surly middle class background. His mother and grandparents raised him in Hawaii to a middle class standard. He knows what it is like to struggle economically.

Romney was raised in very affluent circumstances. I doubt if he ever had to struggle financially, if he ever had to ask where his next Krugerrand was coming from. So if Romney is elected who do you think he will favor. Do you really think he will favor the middle class, a class he has no connection with.

As president, he appoints members of the Supreme Court who reflect Romney's vision of American, where corporations are people, or will he get back to a court helping working families.

What about our troops, will he honor them or just treat them as expendable items on a spread sheet? He never mentions them during the debates, none of his five sons will never spend a day wearing a military uniform or serve our country in wartime. He can have all the wars he wants, it won't cost him anything personal, as long as his corporate buddies make money, who cares, just like Cheney and Bush.

He already said he won't put one dime of taxes on the wealthy, so where to you think the extra money will come from when Romney's tax policies start going south, what deductions and loopholes will be closed. I can guarantee you it won't be the wealthy's taxes that change. I imagine Social Security, will change, medicare will change, as the mortgage tax credit. No matter what Romney has said, the middle class will almost be destroyed under his leadership, again because he has no connection with middle class people. It's simple, if he's elected and then gets in trouble, he is going with, "the people what brung him", his buddies from Bain and the like, that he knows, and is familiar with and trusts, the ones that have elevators for their cars in the garages too.

I live in Hawaii, a vet, who is a retired union carpenter, my wife is a teacher and we have already voted. Now we'll sit back and watch how real it will get. "Hold ye with the truth, and the truth shall set you free".

niece1964,

If CNN and MSN (MSNBC) are saying the same thing, don't you think there is some validity to what's being said? In fact I'll take you a step further, if the Washington Post, ABC, CBS and a slew of other TV and newspaper sources are saying the same thing, don't you think there's added validity?

I also noticed that you mentioned FOX News. The difference between FOX News and MSNBC and CNN is this - MSNBC and CNN have shown that they will criticize this President as we as Mr. Romney. FOX News is biased and will never criticize Romney; they will always be on the attack when it comes to the President. So, I, like a majority of America, don't pay much attention to what FOX News is reporting. FOX New Journalist are not paid to be unbiased and any credible news agency or reporter that's worth their salt will tell you so.

I will stipulate that not all Republicans are Racist, Pro-life, or gun toting bible thumpers, if you will stipulate that there is a good number of Republicans that are...and it's damned scary. Specifically in regards to the racist remark, several prominent Republicans and their son's have so much as said that "we have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago - or Kenya!" If he would have stopped at Chicago, no problem...but Jason Thompson didn't. I will agree that people have a tendency to say things in the heat of the moment...but I've learned a long time ago that people usually say what their really thinking when they believe what's being said will be held in confidence.

How about the birther issue? When it was finally put to rest, Tea Party Republicans never let it rest. Why? Fear perhaps? Because his name is Barack Hussein Obama and to some that name closely resembles what Americans fear the most - Muslims. Any to many what do Muslims represent terrorists.

I mean this list can go on and on and unfortunately for the Republican Party - the racist tag is going to stick until the party gets back to it's roots - the Party of Lincoln.

Mr. Romney has said so many things over the last 6 years and flipped on almost everything he has said, I don't know exactly where he stands on anyone position. Now, in order to get the vote, he has moved positions to the center, but once he receives your vote, will we still see the same person in the oval office? The answer...well you just need to do an audit of Mr. Romney as Governor of Massachusetts - I must say the picture is pretty bleak for Republicans.

Obama keeps saying that Romney wants to go to the failed policies of the past. does he mean the time Osama Bin laden was in custudy and the sitting president said Oh no we don't want him so he was let go. Or does he mean the failed policy that let the banking industry go wild and loan 125% of the equity in a home to people who they knew couldn't afford a home of any kind ?, Of does he mean the poicy that single handedly caused most of our manufacturing jobs to leave this country ? thsoe to me are the poicies that put us here today. over 3000 American lives were lost because that President said no let bin laden go. Millions of jobs have been lost because that President signed NAFTA ,GAFT and other "free" not "fair" traade agreements. Millions of people lost homes when their jobs left and they were in upside down mortgages. That President so many revere so highly too just as many do President Obama today. That President also lied to congress, straight faced and was let off.Obama lied many times last night. One example is the auto bail out. He said Romney never said he was for any government bail out. Go check it out for your self. Romney did say in 2008 that after a full structured bailout if government assistance was needed then and ony then should it be given. He knew that unless GM went through a total make over and management change the company would only fail again in time. Well the time is here AGAIN. GM is faultering because of the same ole executive principles.

Do i really like Romney ? Not necessarily. I do know that for 4 years I have entrusted in Obama to turn this country around and he hasn't. His only real claim to fame is getting Osama Bin Laden on his watch. To hear him tell it he is the one who actually pulled the rigger that night when in fact is was aconcerted effort of over 10 years that finally bore the fruit of the person his Democratic predecessor let go.I don't trust obama with the Iran situation either. He and his VP both seem to think it a laughing matter when the subject is addressed, Biden says "they don't even have a missle" . all I can think is. The missle is the easiest thing to get when they are ready. This type of lack of concern for real foriegn dangers is what got 4 people killed just a few weeks ago. Jo cool and cool cat can laugh and make up little ziggers while innocent people are dying. Americans are struggling more every day and these two think it is comical.

I don't praise Bill Clinton for his failed policies that Obama so highly talks of. I don't worship the smooth talk coming from Obama again. The same empty promises of 4 years ago. Remember those commitments he made to us ? Many of you have either forgotten or choose to ingnor that he has not fulfilled them. I did vote for President Obama in 2008 but I will not in 2012. I have yet to hear ANY real policy come from the President to fix our economy. NONE. If any of you have let me know. It is time for change not talk of change. We are rapidly running out of time.

1.) Bob Schieffer did a fairly good job and some of the other moderators should take note. (Candy I'm looking at you.)

2.) This was probably the least likely debate to change anyone's mind.

3.) Both candidates did a good job and accomplished what they set out to do.

While I think Obama did a good job I think the strategy for this debate was very different for the two candidates. Obama seemed on the attack which may have helped him look like he won the debate and helped with the base, but his like-ability which he had a good lead over Romney on is going to take a hit. (Polls already show this) Romney on the other hand came in wanting to look Presidential. He talked seriously about the issues, showing solid knowledge of the world and the problems we face, but tried not to get too aggressive with Obama and cross some line. I would of liked him to be more aggressive, but his strategy of looking more presidential I think will pay off in the end. Like in the second debate Obama was going after Romney charging up his debate, while Romney looked to assure women voters and get more independents.

The CNN poll showed that while half of those questioned said that the debate hadn't changed their vote at all, 25% said they would be more likely to vote Romney, and just 24% said they thought the same about Obama. Obama may have won the debate. But he also may have lost the election.

Had a lack of seasoned foriegn affairs really mattered to voters obama would have never been elected in the first place. obama does have experience now, however; he seems to screw-up everything he does. Romney displayed himself as the presidential material we need to make the USA strong, and UNITED. obama, and his enforcer eric holder seem to work overtime on dividing the country. What was obama talking about when he told the Russians to wait untill after he gets re-elected as he will have more flexibility????. There's a reason Russian troops were in Colorado training with our troops on dealing with civil unrest and rounding up people, and if there's a majority of Americans STUPID enough to re-elect obama we may find out the hard way. ........ROMNEY/RYAN 2012-2020

"Arrogant, dismissive, derisive", who knew that in 2009 Mr. Obama would so accurately describe himself to the world while on his apology tour denigrating the US. Romney is light years ahead of Obama in leadership skills and understanding of the fundamental values of our great nation. If you think a nation weakened by $26 trillion dollars in debt (Obama's proposed budget) and that" leads from behind' " and lies to the American people about the nature of a 9/11 terrorist attack is good, vote for Obama.

If you think we need an economic plan that creates jobs and balances our budget (leaving us fiscally strong) and leadership that does not denigrate our country and is willing to actually lead in our best interest on the international stage while being straightforward with the American people is good, vote for Romney

Chris Matthews is right that Romney wants to be the BOSS of America. The White House is the only thing that he hasn't conquered. The fact that he has been denied the office of presidency once already makes it all that more appealing to him. He thinks and talks like your boss already - changing his tune anytime he feels like he's offending too many of his employees. Thing about the boss is that, he only gives a crap about you or me as long as he's collecting profits from your talent. He doesn't care for your input no matter how many times he tells you about his open door policy and in the end, when he has milked you for all he can, he will let you go without a second thought.

Amazing! Obama was beyond horrible in his first debate and MSNBC, Democrats in general and everyone on that side collectively (to a man, to a women, to a pundit) said so and called him out (I wrote and thereafter, several times on line that he looked like he was trying to loose the election)!

How is it then that when the President has 2 out of 3 wins (the last 2 debates) the far right can invent such obvious and laughable fictions? Honestly, if Mitt had jumped up on the top of the table in the last debate and took a proverbial bowel movement he would/was applauded by FOX and these "I hate Obama more then I hate Mitt" types for being manly assertive, in your face decisive, take no prisoners all while simultaneously being a really nice guy and Presidential... but somehow (to the point of ad nauseum) Obama was just an "angry Black Man! I'm sorry but you guys can never own it because even though you can dish it out... it appears YOU CAN NEVER TAKE IT! By the way for those who did not watch the last debate... Obama decidedly won and in the less then nuanced vernacular of boxing, "it was a knock out with Mitt going down for the count". Proceed Mr. Romney...

The race card, it never gets old!

I'm sorry but you guys can never own it because even though you can dish it out... it appears YOU CAN NEVER TAKE IT!

Most republicans I have heard have said they thought Obama won on points (if it were boxing) and won on being more aggressive, but htought Romney looked more Presidential. (Which was the strategy to try and win women and independents.)

By the way for those who did not watch the last debate... Obama decidedly won and in the less then nuanced vernacular of boxing, "it was a knock out with Mitt going down for the count". Proceed Mr. Romney...

Well decidedly is your biased take on it. I thought Obama won the debate, but lost the like-abilty / Presidential image war. Debates are more then just debating points and that is what you on the left aren't getting. You can come away from a debate and say that guy won but that guy is who I want for President.

Obama in the first debate lost on points, style, credibility, trust, and knowledge. The second debate Obama won overall, but Romney won (even according to polls) on the economy, which is Americas number 1 issue. (Which is why there was no bounce for Obama and actually Romney continued his surge.) Last night Romney lost on points, and either won or tied on everything else. Most importantly the last debate is when people look to see who do I want as my President, and Romney looked like he was the President, and Obama looked like the Challenger.

      #1.261 - Tue Oct 23, 2012 10:59 AM EDT

One of the most disturbing moments came when moderator Bob Schieffer of CBS News asked: "Would either of you be willing to declare that an attack on Israel is an attack on the United States, which of course is the same promise that we give to our close allies like Japan? And if you made such a declaration, would not that deter Iran? It's certainly deterred the Soviet Union for a long, long time when we made that -- when we made that promise to our allies."

This was a flawed question. The far more important question is: If diplomacy and sanctions and covert operations don't stop Iran from getting the Bomb, would you fully support Israel if Prime Minister Netanyahu feels he has no choice but to order preemptive military strikes on Iran.

Nevertheless, President Obama accepted the premise of the question and replied, "I will stand with Israel if they are attacked." Mr. Obama tried to portray himself as a strong ally of Israel throughout the rest of that answer and the entirety of the evening. But consider his answer more carefully. The President did not say unequivocally that he would stand with Israel in a preemptive strike on Iran, if that were the last option available. Rather, Mr. Obama insisted he would help Israel after Iran attacks the Jewish state. But if Iran attacks Israel with nuclear weapons, it would be too late for American military assistance to do much good. Indeed, it is immoral for an American president to vow to defend Israel only after she has been attacked with nuclear weapons. Yet this is the President's position.

GEO-POLITICAL TRUTH: From Russia With Love

MOSCOW -- President Vladimir Putin said in an interview aired Thursday that Russia can work with Mitt Romney if he's elected U.S. president, even though Romney has called Russia the United States' "No. 1 geopolitical foe."

However, Putin also suggested that a Romney presidency would widen the rift over an anti-missile shield the United States is deploying in Europe.

The Russian leader held out hope for an end to the missile defense dispute if Barack Obama is re-elected in November, telling Russia's RT television he was "an honest person who really wants to change much for the better."

Romney said... "But we can't kill our way out of this mess. We're going to have to put in place a very comprehensive and robust strategy to help the world of Islam and other parts of the world, reject this radical violent extremism, which is certainly not on the run."

              .

This is a contradiction of his long sought policy to increase military spending and going after everything that resembles Islam. We can not eradicate Islam as they can not eradicate Islam either. Mr. Romney contradicted himself by presenting two views:

Increase military spending so we do not have to use the alternative and least expensive way to punish outlaw regimes and groups.

But wait we can not shoot our wait out of war! That is way we call it war! Shoot out and kill the bad guy. Even Bush was after Osama and so were we. Obama has followed a robust tactical means of going after radical groups around the world. Better yet he did so in cooperation with nations where the bad apples were found.

              .

Obama did not forget that US is a part of the world citizen; not its unilateral colonial power. I do not know any time in history where in a single year so many Arab dictators were removed from power with disgrace. The US involvement was low key while working with allies and was effective.

              .

Radical Islam is on the run!! The number of violent acts in countries we presume violent is about just as violent as US disgruntle citizens engaging on a shootout in malls and work place.

Take Somalia for instance. Radical elements are completely surrounded and the US plays low key but with gradual success. It has cost no US lives so far.

              .

I think he played very shroud game against radical Islamic groups and history will not deny him that.

This is typical of the way the talking heads have been during the entire 4 years of the Obama* administration.

Obama* claims to have gotten bin Laden while the true fact is that the Navy Seals have been on this mission for 4 presidencies. Maybe Monica had something to do with that...Obama* claims credit for other things too, like the sanctions against Iran, and the pull out of Iraq. btw..The terrorists are back in Iraq, with new training camps. In 4 places. Obama* is getting so much protection from the media.

I have heard nothing but complaints about the changes that the military and their dependants will have to deal with when Obamacare starts IN 2014! No matter what you say it has not yet started, only the taxation, the reduction in Medicare, and the coming exodus of highly-qualified, underpaid doctors, nurses, and medical professionals! My wife is a nurse and she knows firsthand that there will be a dramatic shortage of medical care the SECOND that Obamacare actually begins!

Obama does not care at all about the military except to use it for his political gain! He is giving the terrorists a time table in which to take back the entire middle east! This will make all of the sacrifices made by our brave military men and women mean NOTHING!

The President was clearly the winner tonight. Even the GOP pundits are reluctantly admitting it now, although a few are still stumbling for words, mostly like "the President was on attack."

Oh ... so it is okay to call the President a wimp when he is polite and not aggressive, but when he points out Romney's spinning weather vane, then he is "attacking."

              GOP Double Standard.

CNN, NBC,CBS, ABC are all backing up Obama on the lies and concealing the facts. The independant polls have romney 49% and Obama 42% with some still undecided.

Would those independent polls be FOX News? Certainly not the rest of the country. Even the Repubulicans on other channels said Obama did good when translated into English means Obama kicked Romney's ass.

              and a nice Obamaphone

You have no idea when the phone program started, or how it's funded, do you? Not to mention the food stamp program or section 8 housing. I am pretty sure Obama was still a child or had yet to be born when those programs started.

Nothing like being fed what to believe, right? How does it feel? You know, being told what to think.

You also whine about lack of originality and then go right for the worn out Hope and Change comment. If you post didn't lack complete originality, I may have felt sorry for your ignorance.

Instead, you get lumped into the category of being too lazy to research things and will only believe what they are told by people that tell you what you want to hear.

Why anyone chooses to be a low information voter is beyond me.

That independent vote varies from state to state, but in most states Romney is getting the majority. There are some swing states where that number is 58-28 for Romney with a host of undecideds. You can tell which states those are because the democrat sample is higher than the reality, like in Ohio, New Hampshire, Iowa.

I dont even live in the USA and I was at my grandson's birthday party tonight but after six of us decided to watch the debate. I really dont know Republican from Democratic policies I just listened to see who had a plan for the next four years, who seemed to be very experienced in foreign affairs and just would make me feel safe if they were going to be the Commander and Chief of the USA. I didnt have to watch it for very long before it was clear to me that if I lived in the US and Romney became President I would have to move to another country. He is so dangerous because he doesnt know what he is talking about. His performance tonight was awful. He was sweating profusely because he didnt know how to answer half or more than half of the questions and he seemed to agree with Obama on just about everything regarding to how he would run the country. I wish they would have gone into foreign policy more because that would have really showed the people how little he knows about being President. Obama on the other hand was calm, cool and collected and decisive in what he said. He stood up to Romney when he needed to and even made a few comical comments to Mitt which I enjoyed also. I hope this changed some people's minds that think Romney is the be all of the end all. And if they still think that they must not have watched the debates or listened to any of his promises. I dont throw the word idiot around loosely but seriously tonight Mitt Romney looked like a complete and utter idiot.

              From Michael Brenner:

One omen of a candidate's true feelings is the advisers with whom he has surrounded himself. Romney has opted to sign up the whole package of neo-conservatives first supplied to Rick Perry by Donald Rumsfeld. They are all founding members of the coterie that led the Bush administration, and the country, to wrack and ruin in Iraq. Indeed, Romney was holed up with Don Senor as his chief tutor this past weekend. Senor achieved notoriety as the public affairs director and spokesman for L. Paul Bremmer III in the Green Zone where he was dubbed a worthy successor to "Baghdad Bob."

Why would this country EVER turn its foreign policy back over to the Bush boys?

              No way. No how.

Intelligent people understand that there is a difference between attacking Romney and correcting his lies.

A hopeless Romney, who was totally out of his league tonight, used the term attacking because he wanted to drum up sympathy from his followers.

Some of his stupid followers believe he was being attacked because he used the word. That doesn't make the correction an attack.

Intelligent people understand that stated words don't necessarily amount to fact and that only by doing their own homework, researching issues, WATCHING ACTUAL FOOTAGE of ACTUAL SPEECHES can they learn the TRUTH behind the FACT that ROMNEY LIES.

Calling a lie a lie isn't an attack. It's a fact. Get off your lazy sofas and do the homework and you will learn a thing or two.

His arithmetic sucks; he wants to give $5 trillion tax cut to the rich and $2 trillion more to defense and reduce the deficit. Even my 10 year old knows that is not possible.

Romney has to be the biggest liar ever to run for the Presidency in the history of the United states. No one, especially those who will vote for Romney have any idea who, or what Romney really is, or believes. Fact, no one knows if "Willard Mitt Romney" is His real name. A vote for Romney is a vote against the President, and nary a damn thing more. Romney, like lil Bush is simply someones puppet. Talk about a white man hugging a Black man in the name of a debate? PBS said Romney's refusal to be drawn out made it a draw if not an edge to Romeny. Yeah, guys, that whole liberal media thing...pretty much just echo chamber garbage especially when Fox pundits are looking rather non-plussed at Romney performance. Personally, Romney made a classic mistake of beginning many responses with "I agree with the President". That is a weak move even if you do agree. Find a better way to answer. And Romney looked in over his head with a handful of talking points that never came out where needed. He promised a lot of good stuff but as usual gave no details. He was good on his knowledge of Pakistan.

.If you want four more years of B.S. and watching a president go on the talk show circuit, vote for Obama. The current president was taking glamorous vacations with his wife, kids and mother in law while Americans lost their homes due to losing their jobs.He has done nothing about China devaluing their currency so that they can flood the market with cheap goods. He has done nothing in the Middle East except cost American service people their lives and Al Qaida has actually grown stronger in other regions. The Taliban is patiently waiting it out in Pakistan until Americans leave Afghanistan.Romney does have a stronger stance on certain countries.Romney realizes that Latin America is the direction that we as a nation needs to go in the way of trading our goods which will create jobs. According to Obama*'s campaign commercial.."Romney pays 14% in taxes on investments. and a man who makes 50 thousand a year pays more taxes".

14% of 20 million is 2.8 Million Dollars. There is no way that a man making 50 thousand a year pays more than 2.8 million in taxes.

                      Obama* is such a liar.

I guess that whole percentage of money taken thing is escaping you.

As a percentage, someone making 50K a year pays more in taxes.

Then again, I think you know that. But like the biased media, you spin things to suit your agenda.

I can not deny that our President knows how to speak. I can not deny that Obama is smooth with words and has the ability to slide out of tough spots in a debate and make people melts at his feet on the campain trail.

I will not however fall for smooth talk again as I did in 2008. I now have a record to judge Obama on. We have a dead ambassador and 3 others at the hands of this president needlessly. The blood is on HIS hands. This country is is bad shape economically for lack of direction by this President. We have seen many instances of disregard for our laws by this President. We are now under the thumb of our own government with Obamacare. No way out of that. our President says you WILL do it his way. We have had gridlock for 3 years because this President tels congress "its my way or no way " then blames them.

The only thing I took from this debate was that Obama must have worked with Biden . Every time Romney was pointing out Obamas failures Obama would smile big and bright and interupt then claim "that's not true".

We will soon find out who will be elected. I have made my choice as most of you here have if not all. 4 years from now I will deside if my vote was wrong. If my choice looses the election I may be able to say I told you so. I may have to conceed as well but the record indicates that won't be the case.

Lets just remember obama had no real foriegn affairs experience when he took office. No president does really at this level. Although some things have happened on Obama's clock that are good, they were not done by him as he tries to claim. He says "I" got bin laden. And said " I , Me alone" did that. He is not the God he thinks he is. Iran scares the tar out of me as it should any American today. Presidnet Obama and his VP Biden see Iran as a laughing matter. I am not laughing and in the years ahead no one in the world will be laughing when they reach missle capabilities.

Five Times Obama Has Apologized for America

(QUOTES FROM THE “APOLOGY TOUR” THAT NEVER HAPPENED

In his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney said:

“I will begin my presidency with a jobs tour. President Obama began with an apology tour. America, he said, had dictated to other nations. No Mr. President, America has freed other nations from dictators.”

( Videos of each Obama quote at link below text.)

                        1. April 3, 2009: Strasbourg, France

“In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”

                        2. April 6, 2009: Ankara, Turkey to the Turkish Parliament

“Another issue that confronts all democracies as they move to the future is how we deal with the past. The United States is still working through some of our own darker periods in our history.”

                        3. April 17, 2009, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, at the Summit of the Americas

“While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms.”

                        4. April 20, 2009: CIA headquarters, Langley, Va.

“Don’t be discouraged that we have to acknowledge potentially we’ve made some mistakes. That’s how we learn.”

                        5. May 21, 2009: National Archives in Washington D.C.

Unfortunately, faced with an uncertain threat, our government made a series of hasty decisions. … I also believe that all too often our government made decisions based on fear rather than foresight; that all too often our government trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions. Instead of strategically applying our power and our principles, too often we set those principles aside as luxuries that we could no longer afford. And during this season of fear, too many of us — Democrats and Republicans, politicians, journalists, and citizens — fell silent. In other words, we went off course.”

Not sure where you get your info unless from personal experience. Don't understand how a church would grow if they don't allow non-church members.

Wouldn't necessarily call them a cult, either. Nonetheless, their teachings are by Biblical definition, false teachings.

Enough said. One's religion is one's personal, private choice.

Any foreign policy expertise this former Governor tries to pretend to have is merely based off several weeks of debate prep by true foreign policy experts who look for anything Obama can be criticized for even if they agreed at the time. It's called Monday morning quarter backing. Most of the time the POTUS has no impact on civil wars or terrorist attacks in other countries. Anyone who believes the man who couldn't remember the name of our countries closest allies leader or even use common sense enough to get past his first foreign stop again to our closest ally leaving headlines of Mitt the Twit shows his foreign expertise when not scripted.

I watched nearly the entire debate. From what I heard, essentially, Romney mimicked all of Obama's policies. His only disagreements were that he seemed to feel Obama should act and speak tougher - all the hard ass symbolic S**t. Didn't we have enough of the brazen "bring it on" and "mission accomplished" crap from folks in the previous administration; those who talk trash, but leave the dangerous work and fighting to others. If Romney wants tough talk, let him join those at the front lines who bear the consequences. He had achance in the 60's; he opted for the oh so dangerous streets of Paris instead.

Georgepauljohn, I am sorry, but, Republicans and conservatives believe in freedom for everyone, not just for the "victim-of-the-day" that Obama and the left seem to bring up every day! Freedom of opportunity does not equal equality of outcome! Some will win and some will lose. Obama spouts "freedom" and believes that he and the looney left are "free" to do whatever they damn well please to everyone in this country!

                          Governor
Romoney created millions of jobs in China, and his company Bain Capital is

Obama has done nothing but destroy, piece by piece, the fiber that is the backbone of this country! He hates the 1%, dislikes free enterprise, and believes that destructive taxation is "patriotic"! If something goes wrong it is NEVER his fault... 8% unemployment... Bush! 23 million either out of work or unable to find full time work.... Bush is to blame! Terrorists kill our ambassador and 3 Americans... A 15 minute Youtube video is to blame.

I guess the buck never stops with Obama... But after 4 years of his stupidity a buck is worth one hell of a lot less!

When you say romney is a tax cheat, most discriminating people tune out the rest of your posts.

When you say romney lied, most discriminating people tune our the rest of your posts.

If they were to use the ignore feature, there would be little left in thousands of pages of posts.

What responses you get to your post to the contrary of what you say are mostly well meaning people who think you simply need enlightenment. When you trash them, they just say, Okay, let's just let the freight train of reality run you over and hope you change your way.

If you believe Europe is the economy we should copy vote for Obama. If you do not believe Europe is the economy we should copy vote for Romney. It is as simple as that. Europe is a complete socialist failure. America was not a failure until we started moving more toward a European style government and economy. How people can not see that Europe is failing due to its huge entitlement programs that are not sustainable is amazing. We should be going the opposite way of Europe, yet we have a President who thinks we should copy their every move.

Gen Clark has always been a moderate, he never made his political affiliation public while he served in the military. His intelligence and his moderate approach to being a leader is what made him a great general.

What is the most disappointing about Romney is NOT his religion (I have LDS friends and like most people, they are a great caring lot), it's not the fact that he is republican, I was until Bush 41. It's the fact that he talks about going to war and spending trillions that could be spent on making US better. It's the fact that he says whatever he thinks the audience at the time wants to hear. It's the fact that he is SO pro business that it's scary (The rights of corporations outweigh the rights of the individual). It's the fact that he'll never send his children or grandchildren to fight in the middle east, but because I'm NOT a millionaire, my children may have to go.

But mostly, he always talks about going backwards. Well, unless he really does have some kind of magical powers, we as a nation are who we are RIGHT NOW. The kind of divisiveness that Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and like spew has to end at some point. Romney is a continuation of this hate anything NOT like us belief.

We, as citizens, have to become better informed and start caring about our country at the local, state and of course the federal level.

Bain Capital and all the others in Wall Street that took advantage of the stimulus money. Stop kissing the feet of the billionaires. They do not care about you!

JUST-D-bs. Investment in America is never a waste. A failure in science still teaches. When gemini capsule burned up at the launch pad, people like you wanted to end the space program. When columbia blew up, people like you wanted to end the space program. people like you also didn't like that newfangled invention called the automobile or the television. if it where up to people like you, we would all be back in the stone age.

I rather invest in American companies than invest in China (and bank accounts in Switzerland and Cayman Islands).

All my money are right here, either in government bond or in American bank accounts. Some companies will fail and some will prosper, that is just the nature of capitalism. You can't blame all the companies that failed on the President and not give him credit for all the industries that he has saved. He saved our economy from falling into the Greatest Depression, that is the bottom line. Mitt would have let Detroit go bankrupt and file chapter 11 on USA.

lonesome george,Obama should have let us go into a depression as we would have recovered already. The best and brightest economists in our country has also stated this fact.If my small business fails the government won't bail me out and they shouldn't bail me out.He used future generations's tax dollars to bail out companies. The U.S. should not be in business of investing in business. They are supposed to govern this country.

This one is serious ideflect. The Russia comment needs to be explained and you should want the answer too. What is Obama not telling us? This issue is one that should be shared by supporters of both candidates. Or, are you so biased you can't see the the problem with his comments to Putin?

Romney is not standing by with China. He is helping them take jobs from our shores and bringing them to theirs. Romney is a part of the problem. Today Bain is sending jobs to China. Romney is dealing with generalities. Obama is dealing with specifics. Once again, Romney is in the JV league.

Every nation is trying to gain more power and more influence throughout the world. It is human nature to want to get more power and control. Every other country is trying to increase their power and decrease America’s power. You can not blame them for their actions. They are just looking out for their best interests. It should concern everybody when almost every nation on the planet would like for a Democrat to be president and will actively help them to win elections. These other countries know that a Democrat in power means a weaker United States of America and more chance for them to increase their power. Do you really think these other countries that are both friendly and enemies of the United States want a Democrat in power because they think it will make them less powerful?

Obama received a huge endorsement from Iran's Ahmadinejad while he was in the United States for the United Nations. That should scare all AMERICANS! When you have a crazy man like Ahmadinejad who states he does not want to make certain comments because that could affect the American election, that is HUGE! Do we really want a president that Ahmadinejad hopes wins the election. Obviously Ahmadinejad knows that Iran gets stronger if Obama is a president and Iran gets weaker if Romney is president. Easy choice to vote for Romney over a current president that is backed by a tyrant.

The president said it best. "You said you would do everything my administration is doing, you would just shout louder."

Romney made a pretty good Jerry Mahoney, including the wooden head.

Up until tonight, Romney has been the hawk. Now he offers the olive branch while wanting to build a navy the admirals don't want.

Obamacare is leading to more part-time jobs. This policy that was jammed down our throats really forces the job creators to hire part time workers. Your company does not get taxed for part-time workers. A nation of part-time workers is not what we need. Every person that is working a job that is not essential should be worried about being moved to a part-time worker due to Obamacare. If you are not worried you are simply not informed. If you vote for Obama and you get laid off or moved to part-time you have nobody to blame buy yourself. Every business has to play by the rules of the game. The rules of the game now just forced every business to consider hiring part-time workers rather than full-time workers.

Under Obamacare for a family of four (50 yearold) making $93,700, if you get a raise of 1% to $93,934 ($234) you actually just got a pay decrease of $7,723 due to Obamacare. Please employer, don't give me a raise! Did you ever think you would ask that in America!?

Democrats have controlled congress since 2006. Congress has much more power than 1 singe President. This economic downturn can not be blamed on Bush as he could not do anything the last two years of his presidency.

Thank you Pitythe fool for being a person who is intelligent enough to see what the shambles the jobs market is in due to Obamacare.

Pity....you should argue with accurate facts. Your assumptions on employment taxes and your inaccurate math regarding effective tax rates are both incorrect. Sorry. The argument should be what Romney has been saying. Reduced taxes on private sector job creators will result in more jobs. 44% effective rates are not American and unproductive.

After how the President lied to the American people about the events that led up to Ambassador Stevens death, he had the nerve to lie to Ambassador Stevens mother. She was on the radio a few days ago talking about how Obama and Panetta lied to her. Vote all these clowns out. This has to be the worst administration we have ever had.

Romney says he loves teachers. On any number of occasions, he has professed disdain for teachers.

He wants the 1917 surface navy back, thus giving contracts to his plutocrat buddies for a surface navy that would get blown out of the water in its first serious conflict.

Romney is not an across the aisle kind of guy. He used a record number of vetoes with his state legislature. This man does not deserve to be president, and is a clear and present danger.

Obama doesn't want to destroy the rich. He wants to retutn to Clinton's policies, which was good for the entire economy. What worked then will work now. Romney would pass a tax policy that would stick the bill to the middle class and even poor. The wealthy would not pay any more than they are now in taxes. So far the wealthy haven't helped the rest of us out. They want no rules and to break unions, and to see to it that they pay ever less in taxes, while we pay ever more while the deficit is continuing to rise to pay for an obsolete Romney navy.

The 1940-60's were the most prosperous years in this country's history wth significant wealth, lots of rich people and a WICKED strong middle class. The tax rate on upper incomes and corporations bordered near 90% yet some how we led the world and had little or no debt and provided social safety nets, medicare, and social security. Amazing how all of a sudden we are told that 35% tax rates (which clearly most corporations and wealthy do not pay) are way too high and the economy keeps getting worse and has since the late 70's. Pick at the details all you want...the overall point is accurate and it is obvious now why we have deficits and a weakening and dying middle class.

Instead of paying for security, ideflect would prefer to pay the medical bills for people who don't take of themselves physically, emotionally or financially. That sounds like a plan for success. Let's all get drunk and obese, and then call the Russians names and tell them they're not very nice people.

You are an idiot. Cutting any benefits like welfare, Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid so that republican billionaires can have more tax cuts is not my idea of what we do in America. We are coming out of a republican recession and we are going to help those struggling to find jobs and helping the country to recover. The one percent owns 40 percent of the nation's wealth. This is the imbalance of the rich to everyone else in America. These rich people have had all the benefits from the Bush administration's eight years. It is time they pay more taxes and we need to get rid of republican Norquist pledgers against revenue for our country.

well I can't argue with most of what you said Stop-Loss, but really... republicans do listen, to the likes of Lush Rimballs, Sean Insanity, Glynnis Beckon, and Fox News spews in general... it's how they get to be as stupid as they demonstrate. While some of them actually work for a living, like just a cleaning lady... the crap she scrubs off her master's toilet is apparently confusing to her. She thinks it's chocolate candy and our President's skin color is making mockery of her master's generosity! Some people just aren't capable of honest reasoning and they'll vote against their own best interest every time.

We don't need more battleships or more jets or more tanks we don't need A larger Army,Navy or Air force ! What we need is less foreign intervention in countries and less Nation building ! These measures have only led to more wars and this is something this country does not need period ! Mr Romney and mr Ryan have surrounded themselves with the same guys who started all these wars Cheney,Rove, and all the other Neocons who are war mongers !

His foreign policy is to give billions to companies that leave the USA, or go bankrupt within 6 months and take the money overseas. I hope Romney guts Food stamps and give people jobs instead. Anyone ever thought that Iran and North Korea co-developed sub designs, as well as North Korea sold subs to Iran. North Korea was also one of Iran major arms suppliers during their Iran Iraq War. During the Iran/ Iraq war, North Korea supplied Iran with Scud missiles, and helped Iran to set up domestic production of the missiles. North Korea was allegedly selling Syria a nuclear reactor, also the fuel.

North Korea and Iran appear to have co-designed similar tanks – the tanks designs are similar.

Who has nuclear weapons? North Korea. If Iran wanted nuclear weapons they would buy them from N. Korea, or they would enrich the uranium in North Korea. What Romney is saying is nonsense. Iran could have had the technology years ago by going through North Korea.

The race to produce arms is mind-blogging. American sells missiles to Israel, Israel sells the US missiles to China, and China sells to North Korea. Romney is a war monger. Let’s hear Romney chastise Israel for selling Patriot missiles to China or talk tough and pick a fight with North Korea.

I notice it is Democrats that don't like seeing the two together. Is that becasue Obama comes across different, when confronted, by someone? The president kept saying that he will reduce the Debt, and increase teachers, building, by taxing the rich more, the rich do not make enough to pay for just the building he mentioned, for get about more teachers, police, firefighters, and reduceing the Debt. My question is why didn't he do all of it the first 2 years? Or even start to reduce the debt during the 3 or 4th year? He has not intention of reducting the debt, especially when the amounts he wants to reduce it takes 10 years for every year he overspends. So if we get him out of office now we will be paying for his over spending in 40 years, instead of reelecting him and it taking 80 years, under his plan. So not only are our children involved, our great grandchildren are involved, do we want to add are great, great grandchildren to pay for his spending? I hope not.

                                                                  • 3 votes

The President has begun to reduce the debt. It has come down over 200billion since he took office. If you wonder why the debt has not lowered faster, look to George W and the House GOP who got us into two wars and lowered taxes for the entire nation, plus did the big pharmaceutical give away without any way to pay for it all except by borrowing from China. Factor in the extreme damage they did to the economy, and you have the deficit mess that we are in. Thanks to the 2010 election, we are STILL in the grips of those policies. Ending the Iraq war has helped a bit but not enough. Besides, the focus should be on getting the economy moving...not the debt. Increase taxes on the top 1%, get the economy growing, end the Afghan war, and that debt will begin to come down even more!
