President Barack Obama eclipsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the second presidential debate Tuesday night, commanding the stage in a manner that many people found a reassuring contrast to his performance in their first debate, according to NBC Politics' computer-assisted analysis of more than 1 million debate comments on Twitter and Facebook.
Through midday Wednesday, a large plurality of comments reflected a belief that Obama did better in the debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.:

That works out to a 58 percent to 42 percent edge for Obama among commenters who expressed a clear opinion.
Sharp exchanges between Obama, Romney at second debate
Romney was sharply criticized for his comments on equal opportunities for women, a topic that has been a consistent drag on his appeal since NBC Politics began tracking social media sentiment in the presidential campaign in February. Commenters particularly believed that Romney stumbled badly in asserting the he had reviewed "binders full of women" when assembling his Cabinet when he became governor of Massachusetts in 2003:

That unusual phrase was the inspiration for an online meme that took off almost as soon as the words came out of Romney's mouth and for thousands of jokes during and after the debate:

But many commenters also assessed it seriously as evidence that Romney was dismissive of women:

NBC Politics reviewed 1.05 million posts on Twitter and Facebook through noon ET using a tool called ForSight, a data platform developed by Crimson Hexagon Inc., which many research and business organizations have adopted to gauge public opinion in new media. It isn't the same as a traditional survey, which seeks to reflect national opinion; instead, it's a broad, non-predictive snapshot of what's being said by Americans who follow politics and are active on Facebook, Twitter or both at a particular moment in time, and why they're saying it.

A visualization of the data indicates that the general discussion was focused heavily on Obama, rather than Romney, after what was widely characterized as a lackluster performance during the first debate Oct. 3 in Denver. Even those who said Romney did better Tuesday night did so by drawing direct comparisons to the president, whose name was the single most-cited word in pro-Romney comments:

I didn't watch the first debate as I already know the party to which I belong .but I do believe that Romney won that debate. I did watch the second debate and I know that the President won that one.I appear to be the only one who considered that the Moderator was generous with Romney for the first part of the debate and allowed him a longer time to refute the President than the Pres. received but Romney then became arrogant and from then on the timing for both became equal. I also noticed that Romney continued to refuse to tell what his platform for the running of this country would be if we were misguided enough to vote him into office. My opinion of that man is that he would be a Bas*** to work for .He obviously has respect for no one,unless,off course,you are one of his economic superiors. I would be interested to know the honest opinion of his underlings when he had a Bishop's? position in the Mormon Church.

Romney is clearly the one who was in command in BOTH debates– he displayed the superior executive command, skill and gravitas which Obama does not possess. He is an intelligent and articulate businessman who can hopefully get the country back on its feet. Romney does not drink or smoke, and is a family-loving man. So, who 'won' the debate is really irrelevant [46/39]. The Confrontation didn't change any minds about who gets elected on November 6th. Remember how Walter Mondale bested Ronald Reagon in 1984? and Michael Dukuakis out-debated George Bush, Senior, in 1988?
Stay in your Ivory Tower. Romney will not tell any-one his platform until he is told what it is.
I doubt the debate had much influence on anything.
Basically you have four groups of voters in this country.
1. Committed party backer......doesnt matter which side they are on, they defend the party no matter how stupid or utterly wrong they sound. These people dont "swing" the vote in either direction.
2. Conflicted party backer...these people side with a particular party MOST of the time, but cross the aisle on occasion, usually in dealing with a conflict about their favorite party. Examples would be a person who votes Republican but does side pro choice. Or a Democrat the doesnt believe in gay marrage...effect on vote ..usually less than 2%.
3. Independants. ..These people can be devided into 3 sub groups. The first is what I call the dumb group. They side with whatever seems the most popular at the time, or vote the way a spouse or family member does. The second is the informed group. They are smarter than most committed party backers give them credit for, usually do alot of research on their own, and pick the candidate they feel is best without a committed party in mind. Lastly is the what I call the frustrated group. They think all polititions are crooks and slimy. They vote so they can complain later basically. Their choice is picking the better "less evil" candidate. Total of all sub groups effect on vote...up to 10%
4. The frustrated voter. This is the person who believes their party has failed them. They debate voting the other side, but they are frustrated because they rarely cross lines for anything. Quite a few Republicans voted for Obama after the torrent of the Bush years. A Democrat who hasnt seen a paycheck in over a year may vote Republican this time. Either way this is usally a vote against the incumbant. Effect on a vote is hard to say. If angry at their current situation enough, they vote against the incumbant. If they are more depressed than angry, they usually stay home on voting day. If upset, but hopeful, they vote the party they usually vote. In any given election this is 3%.
The debates MIGHT swing a handful of votes, but thats it. The majority of the people have either made their minds up, or are stuck in their current situation.
Some people here claim Obama won.... Well, if you could claim bobbing weaving and just not answering direct questions, maybe your guy won.. But I doubt it!!!!!!

I would like the economy to be improving at a faster rate than it is but the outsourcing is still continueing .although I think that it is doing so at a slower pace. We have allowed the historically giant industrial power into the race,which I always knew was disasterous.Our Government could deal with this but I doubt that they will,so I cannot see a happy outcome for us. I hope that the future for the West will be better than I expect.but our greedy industrial controllers caused this.

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits leapt to the highest level in four months in the latest week, erasing the large drop reported last week and then some.

President Obama touted it in 2010 as evidence “manufacturing jobs are coming back to the United States,” but two years later, a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with $150 million in taxpayer funds is putting workers on furlough before a single battery has been produced.
Workers at the Compact Power manufacturing facilities in Holland, Mich., run by LG Chem, have been placed on rotating furloughs, working only three weeks per month based on lack of demand for lithium-ion cells.
The facility, which was opened in July 2010 with a groundbreaking attended by Obama, has yet to produce a single battery for the Chevrolet Volt, the troubled electric car from General Motors. The plant’s batteries also were intended to be used in Ford’s electric Focus.
Production of the taxpayer-subsidized Volt has been plagued by work stoppages, and the effect has trickled down to companies and plants that build parts for it — including the batteries.
“Considering the lack of demand for electric vehicles, despite billions of dollars from the Obama administration that were supposed to stimulate it, it’s not surprising what has happened with LG Chem. Just because a ton of money is poured into a product does not mean that people will buy it,” Paul Chesser, an associate fellow with the National Legal and Policy Center, told FoxNews.com.
The 650,000-square-foot, $300 million facility was slated to produce 15,000 batteries per year, while creating hundreds of new jobs. But to date, only 200 workers are employed at the plant by by the South Korean company. Batteries for the Chevy Volts that have been produced have been made by an LG plant in South Korea.

These are ONE year waivers for companies or unions that currently do not offer a med plan that meets the MINIMUM standards required by the new law. They have allowed them additional time to choose another plan that meets the criteria.

Dandy, did you watch the same debate as everyone else????? If you did you watched Romney stumble in to one of the most embarrassing moments of the entire debate. He was wrong.....on substance as Obama had called the incident a "terrorist attack" 24 hours after it happened. But Romney missed that and it goes to the point that he does not check his facts. Instead he does what Republicans have said all along that "FACTS" do not matter in this election. Perhaps they are right. Romney lost this point and also the entire second debate. The media is just now turning to this and you'll see a lot more and hopefully UNDERSTAND more of what really happened in the second debate and why even you should be voting for Barack OBAMA as POTUS.
