Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama confront each other during the second presidential debate Tuesday night.
Updated at 10:32 p.m. ET: The second presidential debate Tuesday night was a football fan's dream, turning into a battle over time of possession as President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney battled almost as fiercely over the clock as they did over what they would do in the White House.
Candy Crowley of CNN, the beleaguered moderator, time and again had to interrupt the candidates' interruptions, reminding them that they would have time at the end to equal things up.
An hour and 10 minutes into the debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., Obama cut into Romney's answer to a question on immigration, prompting Romney to interject, "Mr. President, I'm still speaking" — and then saying, "I'm going to continue."
It wasn't the first time Romney cut off Obama, who did more than his fair share of interrupting, too. Twenty minutes into the remarkably contentious debate, he headed off a presidential interruption by snapping, "You'll get your chance in a moment. I'm still speaking."
That produced an audible gasp from the audience in the debate hall, NBC News' Ali Weinberg reported.

Obama did GREAT during this debate. Poor weasel Romney came off as a desperate mouthpiece, spouting any lie that might convince middle class Americans to vote for him. Sorry, Mitt, all you care about are wealthy folks and big fat businesses.

I thought the President did a great job, calling Romney out on his lies. Man I am proud of President Obama. I thought he schooled Mitten on several things. When candy called him out, and said the president did say that attack was a teariest, Mitten started spiting and stammering, He was had and didn't know what to say. That was the end for Mitten. Ladies and gentlemen, this is not about who spanked or out dissed who. It's all about trying to figure out how the people we have elected to represent us, will get the job done. This mess we're in has been more than 200 years in the making. Nobody has a magic wand that can undue that in the last 40 years at least. I, for one, would like either party to produce in writing for the average citizen, via graphs, bar charts, spread sheets, power point presentations etc. etc. so that I can see what they will do, not just hear abut it.
The last question was "Last question: what do you believe is the biggest misperception America has about you?"...
I was screaming for the President to reach into his jacket and hand Barry (questioner) his birth certificate and ask him to read it out loud... that would have been so F'ing awesome.

Gee, I was thinking the liar was President Obama. Its not that he lies-it appears he uses half truths and lies of omission. Maybe I would believe him if he just said, Hey look, I am NOT a fan of capitalism or free markets, and I believe the Constitution was drafted by white guys who were descendants of Colonialists...and coming from Kenyan ancestry, this pisses me off. The President didn't lay the "beat down" on Romney, not even close. He only looked so cool tonight, because his last debate performance was so terrible. Romney did a good job on laying out the President on policy. Especially since he has nothing but four years of dismal failure to run on. Oh, ya, and how many questions did the President dodge? Especially the question on Libya. he completely ignored what he was asked, and did not provide an answer to the question until the moderator made him. Romney not only answered the questions, but was also very keen on debunking the lies the President told about him right there on stage.

I found my self saying to both President Obama and Willard, answer the question! I will say even though the President had difficulty answering the question directly I liked his answer as a whole. Romney seemed to back peddle as the President brought out the big guns.
I liked it that the President said he was in charge of everyone in the government and took full responsibility for what happened in Benghazi.
I look forward to the next debate and hope I'm not the only one that wants this country to move forword

Both the President and the Governor acted spazzy, more eager to get out their "zingers" than to address the concerns of the questioners. Ugh. Should either of these guys run the country?
Governor Romney was more empathetic I think on some of the questions, although tried to hard to throw in criticism of the President - and wound up repeating himself too often.
President Obama let it slip he is actually for gun control.

Romney lost the debate because he lied about outsourcing, China, ( Mr. W. Mitt Romney is the sole shareholder of Brookside Capital Partners Fund, a Bain Capital affiliate), the 47%, taxes, abortion, healthcare, Fast & Furious, the DREAM Act, his Massachusetts budget, education, and Bengazi-gate just to name a few. Even Candy Crawely admitted MYTH was wrong.
Will MYTH check out that Benghazi transcript from the Rose Garden now? Shame on that @!$%#in, liar for politicizing the death of Americans. Why the @!$%# did Myth even call a press conference? He is not the president and never will be. Will MYTH show up for the foreign policy debate??? LOL, LOL, LOL

I don't know if MSNBC spent any time on this but Fox did (OMG ! I did catch it on Fox.... :-) ).....in the few instances that female journalists/moderators are chosen for Presidential debates, they are chosen for the town hall format. The thinking is that in town halls, the "moderator" simply holds the microphone for the askers of the questions. And not control the debate in any way.
When Candy Crowley indicated she would input more, both campaigns went ballistic. So much for respecting the capabilities of women the same as men ----- from both sides.
Wouldn't you think we'd be beyond that type of concealed discrimination by now?

One of my problems with Romney was "I know how to create jobs, I know how to get the economy growing, I know how to get the US to become energy sufficient, etc, ad nauseam.... He is the all knowing candidate. Can wave that wand. However, he bragged about balancing the Olympics.. how much of our tax money helped him balance it??? Then brags about Bain and balancing budgets... How many companies did he buy, load up with debt, pay himself millions in "fees" (at cap gains rate) then later company closes because they cant handle the debt payments.... You guys look it up... it is all there... and yet you think he is going to be our savior... again... so much malarky...

But despite that comment, some of Obama top aides had initially attributed the Benghazi violence to protests over an anti-Islam film and said it was not premeditated, before finally acknowledging much later that it was a terrorist attack.

In what point Obama declare that that attack was a terrorist attack. He only mention generalities , not specifics, he said it was an spontaneous attach in response to a film, that is mislead. The attack was terrorist, by AlQaeda affiliate , prepared for 9/11 anniversary, this is totally different to the statement Obama and his administration was telling to the American people for more than to weeks. Even worst , they had real, time communication with Benghazi. Obama fail and lie, Hillary is throwing herself under the bus to help Obama.
Well, explain this to me like I'm a six-year-old. If somebody says, in a speech directly in response to the consulate attack, that "No acts of terror will shake the resolve of this nation," what the hoot do you think they are exactly referring to with the phrase, "Acts of terror," Sherlock? Might it be that he went on a tangent and spoke about the explosive diarrhea Rush Limbaugh had had the night before, or is there the slightest possibility that maybe, just maybe, by "acts of terror" he was referring to the subject matter of the speech, namely the consulate attack?
If you're not sharp enough to connect the dots and realize that by "acts of terror" he was referring to the attacks, then that's your fault, not Obama's.

Methinks Mittens is just trying to shift the spotlight off his own ill-timed, incorrect and un-American comment about "apologizing" to terrorists. Romney is an abject failure at diplomacy, as we also saw earlier during his summer trip to England, Israel, and Poland where he managed to insult everyone he met. The President was much better this time around.
I thought his answers were more concise and he mostly stayed in his alloted time. Mittens on the other hand, had to back pedel alot and frequently went over his alloted time. The moderator should have a switch to turn off his microphone. Obama only went far over one or two times. Mitt did a lot. Mitt kept wanting to go back to the previous question to defend himself after the Pres exposed his lies.
On the woman who was asking about taxes, who forgot about one of the credits (education credits) and had to get our her piece of paper, Mitt said he would limit credits and deductions for the wealthy. Well the child tax credit and the education credits already are limited if you make a lot. How is that going to help offset your 20% lower rates, Mitt? And, exemptions are only 3,700 per person/dependent. Limiting them will only recover the lost taxes from Mitt's lower rates on a small amount of money. Besides, exemptions are not allowed (they are added back) for Alternative Minimum Tax. Previously, exemptions and itemized deductions were phased out if your income was above certain levels. It has only been the last few years where these have not been limited for the wealth. Mittens tax proposals are voodoo accounting. They don't add up.
I must say that after the first debate everyone had the consenus that Obama lost that debate and admitted to it. But when Biden won the debate and now Obama winning this debate those Repubs have to blame it on anything and anyone but Mitt Romney. They fill the airwaves with nothing but lies and when someone calls them on it (like tonight Obama did) they get their panties in a knot but take no responsibility for their gaffes at all. Romney is a bully. He can sure hand it out - but he cant take it - he becomes all nervous and sounds like a blithering idiot. And some of you guys want that for a President. He is a disgrace as a Governor - I dont understand how you would want him working as your Commander and Chief.

It is amazing how Democrats saw this debate. Everybody knew regardless on how the president did, that core democrats would say the President blew away Romney.

Mitt the bully couldn't talk over the moderator and keep rambling as he did in the first debate. He couldn't stay on topic, but he did ramble about his talking points even when they had nothing to do with the question. He was still the arrogant, snide, hyperactive bully insisting he needed more and more time to explain, but each time the moderator allowed him to continue it went all otver the map.
And to address many Republican cheers about how he bested O on specifics, not in a million years. He keeps saying things but that doesn't make them true, any more than when Rush spouts some nonsense and everyone gets in an uproar about how Dems or O are taking the country down the path to socialism. Mitt has a serious personality disorder with all his twitching, smirking, jerking, and narcissistic need to make it all about what he wants to tell us even when there's no specifics. He really did come off as a high school bully in the first debate, and tried last night, but couldn't succeed with a strong woman as moderator. When Mitt can't ignore the moderator, he's toast, since if he can't always get the last word, he loses big.
Obama did much better last night. He had rehearsed the lies he was going to tell and stuck to them!

Let's be honest ... a pretty strong debate, with two rams locking horns and refusing to yield ground. The time thing is funny, however, because Obama is clocked with 3 to 4 minutes MORE time than Romney .... yet he was doing most of the complaining about clock management !
Romney missed an opportunity for a TKO on the Benghazi issue and Candy Crowley totally "Blew the call" by trying to play umpire and rule in Obama's favor on what he said ... only later to realize she screwed up and Mitt Romney was right ! The administration clearly put blame on the Benghazi attack on "Spontaneous demonstrations because of an anti-Mohammed film clip" when the evidence now clearly shows the State Department knew early on it was a terrorist attack.
It is doubtful either of these candidates won anyone over last night, as our President did nothing but act rudely, dodge questions, and look like a spoiled little kid, while Romney spent too much time addressing all of Obama's failures and weaknesses. Too bad Johnson has no chance, as the Libertarians are looking pretty good right about now.
For a number of years now, most allegedly "conservative" Americans, have publicly abandoned any truthful attempt to urge their political surrogates to collaborate and compromise. Republicans have become tribal, working to stigmatize, then eliminate, those(RINOS), who have the gall to work honestly with the "other side". The results have created an extreme, less factual and rational group of people, who have been subjected daily, to a barrage of somewhat attractive and often congenial cadre of editorialists, masquerading as journalists, who wish to frustrate, anger and then supply the follower, with sets of pat concepts and/or responses with which to enter the public forum. If your primary news source starts off by telling you they're "fair and balanced", chances are they are counting on any "research" you may do, will simply link you with articles that use the same techniques and often the same exact language to make the point you are trying to "research". When one gets their info from sources that always draw a conclusion, with little or, no attempt at objectivity, one is not an informed citizen, they are simply a willing "Pawn in the Game".

90 minutes for 3 debates is not enough time to cover all of the challenges facing America and how the candidates would tackle these challenges. Bev, I know Mitt Romney having lived in Massachusetts when he was governor. He is not a bad person as you claim. He worked with the democratic legislation to get things done showing that he can work in a bipartisan manner. All I hear from you is accusations without any facts to back them up.
i find it intriguing how people expect answers with more details, but they expect to receive those details in a matter of minutes ---- not realistic. ---------- on the other hand, i've never understood the point of these debates --- mostly what you hear is a repeat of soundbites already stated multiple times over the weeks and months. ------ and frankly, if you haven't made up your mind with 3 weeks to go, you probably never will.

(Focusing on time whining and interruptions is what our pitiful journalists like to do best ---- heaven forbid we focus on the issues. While counting the minutes and seconds each candidate spoke, the media actually counted the number of times the President blinked in the last debate. Aren't the issues of the country and substance a little more important?)
Obama was the Statesman and winner in this debate - that is obvious. What most people may not have taken into consideration was that during the first debate President Obama was dealing with the grief of losing four of his Ambassadors. So during the first debate it was only natural for him appear distracted and no "top of his game" with such a heavy laden mind!
President Obama is too much of a Christian gentleman to use the deaths of his friends for political points. Mitt Romney is a great spinner, and what are spinners specialties? Lies! We American voters need to do our own fact checking.

perhaps the credit for cooperation might go to the Democrats in MA who decided to work with Romney. He seems to want to take all the credit, but cooperation is a two-way street. I find the current Republican congress men and women somewhat disingenuous when they announced they would do all they could to defeat the President and his policies and then turn around lated and blamed the President for not working with them.

Obama won nothing. He has overseen the longest stretch of disasterous growth in modern history, has not done any of the core things he said he would, and has a plan to do nothing but more of the same. They had things that were there idles but when the President said those were good idles, then the Rep's said there own idles were not good idles after the President said they were good and we should do them. I'm glad to see you're obviously interested in the presidential election, but I have to ask, where do you get your news? Do you seek out alternative positions? There's ALOT of information out in the world about President Obama and Mitt Romney, but it's not going to be spoon-fed to you.
The promises President Obama made 4 years ago have simply not been kept. Politics are more polorized than they ever have been in the past. He promised a transparent government--please! This isn't even close to being the case. He promised a 48 hour online review of all important legislation. He promised to cut the deficit by half. Instead he increased it by 6 trillion.
Do any of you know what 6 trillion dollars looks like? In $100 bills laid end-to-end it would go around the earth 241 times! If laid flat and stacked it would be more than 4000 miles high! The distance between New York City and Los Angeles is 2500 miles!

What really needed to be done was to dispell the 72% myth. Studies consistently show it just doen't show up. After Nancy Pelosi spouted the same fact, a reporter asked her why among her staff the women made only 72% of what the men made (which is true.) Of course the dem bitch didn't have anything to say. Men overall make more because they are more likely to take the extra shift, work under more adverse conditions (for which there is extra pay), travel more and the like. I work at a job where everyone knows exactly the rate that everyone is paid, and the men do earn more -- because they don't call in sick as much, because they pick up extra shift, because they are more willing to do the more unpleasant jobs for which there is premium pay. Candi actually did a much better job at keeping things on track than the other two moderators, but I thought she was totally wrong when mitt wasn't allowed to respond during the first question. Obama got 2 chances to speak on that, mitt only one. To me, she showed a clear bias right from the start. And no, I don't think that Obama won the debate. It was pretty closely matched and I thought Mitt demonstrated he could go one on one with Obama regardless of how "energetic" Obama tried to be. Furthermore, this is not a high school debate contest. The vote doesn't go to the best debator, it goes to the candidate who can move this country in the best direction on the most important issues. Both these candidates have some positions that scare the willies out of me, but I'll have to hold my nose and make the best choice. Unfortunately, most of the electorate is a bunch of feeble, close-minded morons who can't figure out the really important issues, are unwilling to consider carefully the positions of each candidate without being blinded by bias, and are too self-centered to choose what is right for the entire country with a long term view. In short, we are screwed and it is of our own making.

Wasn't it wonderful that Romney got asked the question of how he differed from W. It was sublime to watch the weather vane spin but try not to simulate a hurricane. Then Obama got to lower the boom on how the only way Romney is dissimilar is that on social issues Romney had bent over backwards to appear even more extreme than W. This was an ass whooping by the President on Romney. The CNN debate poll showed Obama by 7%, but that poll was again skewed by 9% in favor or the Republicans (in terms of the participants in the poll). The voter preference polls were already stabilizing with Obama about a percentage point ahead before the debate. Now, he should go up about three to four points. Another win on foreign policy (next week) and Romney will have no path to victory.

Then don't forget that Barry, later did the Cassius Clay robidope when Clay converted to Islam as did Barry when he changed his name to Obama and began focusing this life to "radically changing America". He followers of Anti-American mentor include Jerimaha Wright, Frank Davis, William Ayers, Louis Farrakhan and many many others.
Few know this, but at Occidental College, Obama applied for scholarships/fellowships as foreign student, Islamic, with an Indonesian passport.
I grew up on Oakland, Ca in the 70's ... in a belly of black racist riots, Black Panther hatred of American and the need to change American with violence ... I recall similar words and feelings from Obama. HIS AMERICA IS NOT THE AMERICA WE BELIEVE HE IS BUILDING FOR US.
hrmchan - the black panthers started as a rebuttal to police brutality and obama could not be further from them. He is also not muslim dude. and even if he was.... so what? not all muslims are looking to invade and terrorize this country. He is as moderate and white bread as someone can be.
