It seems apparent that when you want to support a campaign you blame the other party's Congress as being in Control during a period selected for its failure and by extension will boost the support of the Presidential Candidate of the opposing Party. When you want to degrade a particular Presidential Candidate you blame them for the failures of that period when in fact it was the Congress during their term that put legislation into play or blocked important legislation that could have helped the President of the opposite Party.

Example: I read a post on this site yesterday that set out to blame the Democratic Congress Jan. 2007 and the following 15 months for the Economic Collapse which every major financial reporting source agrees started in 2007.

When President Obama took office, our country was in the worst recession since the Great Depression. When President Bush left office with two wars, massive tax cuts for the rich, near financial collapse of our Country's banking system due to his deregulation, Wall Street fumbling near bottom with the index hanging on by it's fingernails at 7000 due to his deregulation, the Automobile Industry about to go under and the GDP fell to only 30%. This is what Obama inherited the day he took oath as President for our Country. The recession, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, ended in the Q3 of 2009 due to the stimulus. That's how we know it actually worked. Obama passed the most sweeping Banking regulations since the Depression to secure our financial institutions as well as saved General Motors, initiated the re-regulation of Wall Street, which now hovers over 13,000 most of the time and our GDP for 2011 is up to 46% (or approx. $7 Trillion dollars). The TARP money which came out of the pockets of the American People which was given to banks by Bush is now 98.7% paid back due to the regulations of the Obama Administration.

Our troops are out of Iraq, We have begun our final phase of winding down our military involvement in Afghanistan, which began, as promised in mid August. Our country has had 24 months of continuous growth in the GDP and unemployment is under 8%. Let's not forget a little thing like OBAMA GOT BIN LADEN! What more do the American People expect. Even Mr. Romney stated on 60 Minutes 2 weeks ago tonight that he could not turn things around in one term, it would take two. Really?

Back when Bush was in office, but before the Democrat takeover of the House and Senate, the statement was "Productivity is the highest it's ever been and keeps going up", "Unemployment is at 2.3%, down from 3.1% last year", "Gas prices dropped sharply from almost four dollars a gallon back to $1.74 a gallon"... being .3% lower in unemployment because people dropped out of the workforce is no accomplishment to be proud of. Property values are the lowest they've ever been in the nation's history - not an accomplishment either. Gas prices are at a record high and continue to rise - bad thing. Democrats are more smarmy and hateful than ever - really bad thing. Seriously, you guys are supposed to be the tolerant, compassionate, caring ones, but lately all you've been is vitriolic hatemongers who don't even care about facts. You just want to be right, you want to win arguments no matter how personal your attacks have to become.

When the Bush administration warned that the nation was at high risk of a terror attack in December 2003, he was at his Utah retreat. During Mr. Romney's four-year term as governor of Massachusetts, he cumulatively spent more than a year — part or all of 417 days — out of the state, according to a review of his schedule and other records. Our President has no problems in getting things done in congress because of the success of his reaching across the isle. GITMO is still closed and the stimulus has completely solved all of our unemployment problems so that is no longer an issue. The 2012 federal deficit was less than 229.27 billion dollars as promised. We are now at peace with everyone in the world and all or our troops will be home before the end of 2014 and by 2015 we will start paying off the national debt. I am sure that everyone has figured out by now what they are going to do with all that money they have been saving on health care costs. We can all go on vacations using the new green energy, high speed rail system that was built via those stimulus funded shovel ready jobs. As sea levels decrease we will have a lot more land available for growing green energy crops. I am sure that everyone is looking forward to watching the President and my congressman go over the health care bill, "line by line", on C-SPAN as the President has promised. All hail the Chief!

The policies that lead to the crash began in 1977 with passing of the CRA (democrats) and were bolstered in 1999 (Democrats wrote and Republicans added it in a deal with democrats). In 2003 president Bush and Regulators raised a flag that something was wrong that loans were being made and sold. But the regulators did not know where they were going, how they were being sold, and had no authority to investigate.

They were shouted down by the likes of Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Christopher Dodd, Charlie Rangel, and Republicans Olympia Snow and Susan Collins. They were told there were no problems and basically to shut up or they would be investigated.

In 2005, McCain got on board with the problem and eventually pushed a republican bill to the floor in 2006 where it failed when 14 Republicans including Collins and Snow joined ALL of the Democrats to vote the bill down.

In January 2007, the Democrats took over both Houses of Congress. They tabled any and all republicans bills dealing with mortgages and finance. Despite quarterly testimony of Bernanke and Paulson how there were growing numbers of mortgage failures, how the values of real estate was dropping, how banks were becoming insolvent, and how some of these things many need to be dealt with. The Democrats did nothing and when it all blew up, they then claimed they knew nothing, that they were lied to, and that it is all the Republicans fault.

To make a good decision, you must first identify the problem. Until you do, you will never solve the problem. You cannot find the problem if you read only opinion pieces and accept what they feed you as the truth. 79% of all journalists are registered democrats. It is no wonder why you accept what they tell you as the truth when what you hear is what they want you to believe.

Mrs. Dot Turner has worked at what is now Sensata Technologies in Downstate Freeport for 43 years. The company does sophisticated work creating sensors for automobiles. It enjoyed record profits last year. But not enough for its owner — Bain Capital — which is moving the jobs and the machinery to China.

When Sensata brought Chinese workers into the plant to be trained by those whose jobs they would take, the workers at Sensata protested. “When we started to demonstrate, they got those workers out of here,” Mrs. Turner told me.

The Sensata workers called on Mitt Romney — an investor in Sensata through his Bain holdings — to intervene. A group went to Iowa during the primaries to ask him to come to Freeport; they met with no success. Another group went to the Republican convention to ask him to come to Freeport; they had no success, either.

So, with the open support of Freeport’s mayor and City Council, the workers set up a “Bainport” encampment in the Stephenson County Fairgrounds right across the street from the plant.

“Welcome to Bainport, a taste of the Romney economy,” reads one sign. “Romney does have a jobs plan; too bad it’s for China,” reads another. And Mrs. Turner and others began to make their voices heard.

“We are suffering from the Bain model of capitalism,” Mrs. Turner said. “This is the way Bain works. They take over good companies, and then ship their jobs to China to make even more money.

“So when I hear Romney talking about creating jobs, he’s saying one thing and we are experiencing another. He’s creating jobs, but the jobs are in China, not here. And now under Bain, Sensata plans to give the managers and the supervisors their golden parachutes, but not the workers. I’ve been here 43 years, and they offer a lump sum payment for 26 weeks of salary. And the lump sum means taxes will take a big part of it.”

Probably a bigger part than Romney pays in taxes on his income.

“We’re getting the shaft all the way,” Mrs. Turner continued. “And we’re not going to take it quietly. We can fight for our jobs. We may not win, but we are in their face. You may roll over me, but I’m not going to shut my mouth while you do it.”

Mrs. Turner needs to be heard. The workers at Sensata are skilled workers. Their products are in demand. Their company is profitable and globally competitive. But what Texas Gov. Rick Perry correctly called “vulture capitalists” at Bain do is sweep in and ship the jobs overseas. Bain makes more money, but the families of the Sensata workers are at risk, the Freeport economy takes a hit and America loses more high-tech capacity to China.

In the debate with President Barack Obama, Mitt Romney had the gall to say he had never heard of a tax break for moving jobs abroad. But, in fact, Bain is infamous for taking advantage of every tax dodge and haven known to accountants. They can write off the expense of moving those jobs abroad, and Romney knows it. Romney has his own money stashed in Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Islands shell companies. He even benefitted from tax breaks, avoiding capital gains on his holdings of Sensata stock.

Worse, Romney supports a “territorial tax system” for multinationals that would make the rest of the world a U.S. tax-free zone. That would give multinationals a huge incentive to ship more jobs abroad or to report profits abroad to “harvest” another

That what Romney is running on, and that is exactly what Democrats are trying to do. Democrats can only divert the voter's attention because they have nothing else to go on!

The real problems are our economy and the government deficit. Romney has solutions that could potentially solve our problems. Obama does't have any solutions... If he did, then where have they been the last four years? Oh wait it's the GOP's fault?! Uh, look at California, where the GOP barley exists... How are they doing? Does the largest state deficit and 2nd highest unemployment ring a bell?

The Democrats are trying to take voter's attention off of the economy/deficit and focus on everything else. No wonder Obama has been walking around saying "Big Bird" all week. I saw someone try to justify Obama's performance by saying things are "The Lowest in 4-5 Years". Back when Bush was in office, but before the Democrat takeover of the House and Senate, the statement was "Productivity is the highest it's ever been and keeps going up", "Unemployment is at 2.3%, down from 3.1% last year", "Gas prices dropped sharply from almost four dollars a gallon back to $1.74 a gallon"... being .3% lower in unemployment because people dropped out of the workforce is no accomplishment to be proud of. Property values are the lowest they've ever been in the nation's history - not an accomplishment either. Gas prices are at a record high and continue to rise - bad thing. Democrats are more smarmy and hateful than ever - really bad thing. Seriously, you guys are supposed to be the tolerant, compassionate, caring ones, but lately all you've been is vitriolic hatemongers who don't even care about facts. You just want to be right, you want to win arguments no matter how personal your attacks have to become.

Do you even know WHAT we came out of??? It's not some run-of-the-mill downturn that can be solved by a click of the Fed Chairman's switch or a temporary boost in government spending. We came out of a FINANCIAL RECESSION, the worst type of recession. Financial recessions take months, years, if not decades, to recover fully. Even after FDR's New Deal, only World War II provided the Keynesian stimulus needed to get the U.S. out of the Great Depression. In order to replicate that, America would have to invest perhaps $1-2 trillion into the economy over the next five years. And not via monetary stimulus (which stinks when you are in a liquidity trap); FISCAL stimulus. Actual spending aimed at building or fixing roads and bridges, hiring state and local employees, reinvigorating or building up manufacturing and energy industries, and tidying up our housing and financial sectors. NOBODY, not Obama, not Romney, NOBODY has provided a plan to fix the economy in a matter of 4 years. We all thought Obama would fix everything; we all thought that this newly-elected president would get the country moving towards a better tomorrow in a matter of months; we were wrong. Obama, with all his invigorating spirit and attitude, could not persuade his comrades across the aisle to do what they had done under the Bush administration, which is spend money. When the nation needed real financial and healthcare reforms, Obama compromised and often watered down certain parts of his legislation (the lightness of Dodd-Frank and the absence of a public option in Obamacare included) in order to appeal to both Republicans and Blue-Dog Democrats, but could only gain enough votes to pass on a party-line basis. And by the way, things were not so dandy under the Bush administration. Productivity may have gone up, but workers weren't given the benefits for that. Median incomes shrank, and only a growth in consumer debt covered that. A housing bubble masked the overall weakness of the Bush economy, and when the bubble burst, the house of cards collapsed. The Bush years were the worst years economically since World War II; only the 1930s could compare.

This is the best the Democrats can muster? A halfwit divider who can talk big behind people's backs but bows his head like an ashamed schoolboy when confronted by someone that doesn't coddle him? Hell, Mitt was being very nice and polite when debating with Obama and you still called him mean. Biden was rude as hell and you think that was a good thing. I've never seen such a shocking display of unprofessionalism out of either a president or a vice president, not since the slave days before the Civil War. Is this Progress? Particularly in G.W.'s admin., both legislative branches approved the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan.

Why those democrats, who controlled both the House and the Senate, voted for and approved these wars is no great mystery, they had the same information (or mis-information, we'll never know) that Bush was given. It's not rocket science that most people don't have the stomach to make the tough decisions, and who better to point the finger at when the going gets tough and the constituents become fed-up with unpopular wars (gosh darn, imagine that, a war that's unpopular). These same cowards and hypocrites (aka Democrats) that voted for and approved these wars, all started pointing fingers, making excuses (very similar to the way Obama does) and blamed Bush for their problems. exactly like your doing. There is nothing the President can do for me anymore. Sitting in the Oval Office is one thing, but every time you see him the President looks disinterested and gives the impression he’d rather be somewhere else. Does he feel perhaps that as a president he is above the “little” things, perhaps he feels that he is beyond reproach? What happened during the first presidential debate is nothing complicated. After months of being presented with a demonized version of Mitt Romney, Americans were treated to the real unfiltered person. There is no "trick" that Obama can pull out of a hat to put Romney back in the box that the mainstream media had placed him. I'm not asking anybody to accept what I'm saying without question. Rather what I'm asking Americans to do is to pay attention objectively during the next debate. Put aside all partisan bigotry. Rely on your own judgement. Without all the demagoguery you may have been fed, who strikes you to be the more DECENT, UPSTANDING, and SINCERE individual? If you haven't made up your mind yet, or if you are a Democrat by default, I urge you to watch carefully and ask yourself these questions DURING the next debate. First and foremost I am sick of lieing politicians and yes Obuma is just a big a liar as the rest so is Romney. Obuma has screwed the older Americans and it really scares me when I hear of older people being told that they will not be getting help and yes in some ways being sent home to die hey they are old and expendable at least to the Obuma Care. The biggest problem is the debt. With more than 16 trillion dollars of existing debt, any new money that the federal government borrows will end up costing the tax payers more than 10 times the amount borrowed to repay over the next 180 years. The problem is that before the federal government can even begin to even start paying off any of the new debt they first half to pay off the old debt. While they are paying off the old debt they still have to pay interest on the new debt. Interest rates are historically low right now but if our economy really improves, interest rates will at least increase to more reasonable rates. AT 5% the simple interest on our 16 trillion dollar debt will come to 800 billion dollars. That is 800 billion dollars of tax revenue that cannot be spent on anything to include stimulating the economy. So in effect, for goods and services that the federal government does not absolutely need they are in effect having to pay 10 times the going rate. So 4 dollars gas is really 40 dollar gas to the federal government. As the debt increases so does this multiplication factor. As the debt increases so must interest rates that the Federal government must pay to encourage investors to buy our debt. Remember that our debt is revolving so that even if our debt stays the same we still need parties to keep reinvesting in it. If we try to cheat our investors by inflating our currency the investors will insist that we index our debt before they agree to reinvest. Inflation is really a tax on all who hold US money. President Obama promised to cut the deficit in half in 4 years which he did not come even close to doing. If reelected, the way things are going, Obama will have doubled the debt in 8 years. Fiscal responsibility is not just a good idea, it is a necessity.

Overall income is still down, yes. But it's down by about 2,000 dollars, not over 4 thousand. Please check your facts. Various fact checking websites will be glad to affirm my point.

Many of the things that Romney focused on is his debate were called out as lies and misrepresentations by fact checkers. Even his own campaign. Again, please look up the info and see my point.

Most of the arguments against Obamacare have been debunked repeatedly. There are no death panels. The panel that Romney brought up is a collection of specialists who can make recommendations but can not actually deny anyone care. Obama did not call it a tax, the Supreme court did. And it's only a "tax" if you choose not to get insurance -- otherwise, you don't have to pay it. Projections show it will likely help bring down healthcare costs. Obamacare is not reason that premiums have gone up -- in fact, most of the Obamacare has not taken effect yet. Premiums have gone up -- at the same rates they've been going up for the past 20 years because of rising healthcare costs. The money that was taken out of Medicare was not an actual cut to current benefits, it was cuts to insurance companies and hospitals. The money was then reinvested in prescription benefits for seniors -- thus ends up in a net gain for seniors. I could go on, but this post would get wildly out of hand debunking the numerous false claims that been brought up against the ACA. And again, you can verify all of these things on various fact checking sites.

However, claims that Romney/Ryan plan will increase costs for seniors have indeed been verified by independent studies. And while we're at, Romney/Ryan's tax plan has also been examined by independent studies. And they repeatedly show that there is no way for their plan to remain budget neutral without taking away breaks from middle and lower class individuals. The studies that Romney/Ryan all claims to have that say otherwise are studies done by their own advisors. No independent study has backed up Romney's claims. You again can verify all of this info at fact checking sites.

Many indicators are showing that the economy has significantly improved over the past four years. And some measures are even at pre-recession levels. You can pretend that it's not true -- but there is a lot of data out there to back it up. Also, the 7.8% unemployment rate is not due to people stopping looking for work (the number of people actually dropping out of the job hunt actually went down over the past couple of months) and it's not due to holiday hiring (as that it is taken into account in the numbers). So please stop using these tired excuses, because they hold no weight. Yes, things still need to improve, but trying to claim that we are not better off, on average, from 4 years ago are outright partisan lies.

Obama did not have a filibuster proof Senate for 2 years. In fact, he only had a filibuster proof Senate for about 3 months. Again, you can verify this fact on hundreds of sites.

Gas also reached 4 dollars a gallon under Bush II. High gas prices are not a "conspiracy" by Obama.

And speaking of debunked conspiracies: the birther movement, the "Barry Soetero" claims, the "secret Muslim" claims, etc. have all been debunked so many times that anyone still clinging to them are either lying or are literally the most uninformed people on the internet.

Okay.. well, I have only scratched the surface of myths, false claims, and blatant misrepresentations fired at Obama. When people actually want to talk about facts, I'd be glad to have a real discussion. I can understand real reasons why people might not like or support Obama. But rather than talk about those things, rather than talk about facts, people would rather perpetuate these lies. And I can't understand why. Why undermine your credibility by perpetuating useless lies? Talk about real issues. Provide real facts. When you do that, I'd be glad to have an honest debate and real discussion with people who have opposing view points than me. Outside of that, it's all just a waste of everyone's time.

So my fellow Republicans I'd like to offer you an opportunity to spell out your plans to move this country forward without using the typical Republican talking points...please give me specifics. I don't want to hear about a "5 point plan" because that's the "big picture". For instance:

1. When you cut taxes on the rich (those making more than $250,000.00 a year) will you be shifting the tax burden to the middle class and below? If you say no...where will you make up revenue beside massive spending cuts? If it's spending cut, please specify which programs you plan to cut!

2. Are you going to force the military into to buying weapons systems they aren't even requesting? Unnecessary defense spending, especially when the military isn't asking for it, is bankrupting this country. Fighting two wars, one we didn't ask for, is bankrupting this country. Did Republicans think about that before we went to war in Iraq? Not only did we lose money waging that war...we lost human lives on a lie! What are Republicans doing to fix that one glaring problem?

3. Are you going to remove all financial regulations instituted after the great "Collapse?" What are you going to do when the financial industry goes back to its predatory practices and causes another collapse?

4. Are you going to cut Medicare and Medicaid? How about going after Medicare and Medicaid fraud? The money you recover on fraud or waste will pay for Health-care reform. Those that commit the biggest fraud are those in the medical industry. Why not police the industry - health care should not be about profit - paying for a service yes and some profit - but not solely about or for profit? Throughout history we have seen that profit drives corruption and fraud.

5. After seeing the multiple benefits of Health-care Reform...should you actually repeal the law...what do you propose in its place? How do you plan to cut down inflationary health-care cost? Insurance costs? How do you plan to protect the American people from greedy pharmaceutical companies?

6. If you don't like the health care insurance "mandate", why aren't you pushing to end all insurance mandates, i.e. auto insurance, home insurance etc? It's the same thing. Better yet, if you're never in an accident, why not establish a law that gives a percentage of our money back because we didn't file a claim? In the end, insurance is just giving money away.

7. Are you going to end Social Security as we know it? Why? Why not go after those committing Social Security Fraud? Why not put Social Security in a lock box...you can't use those funds other than for the welfare of our aging society?

8. The biggest enemy of small business is big business. What is the Republican Plan to help with small businesses? Reducing taxes? How about getting our products overseas? How about applying tariffs on imports or in lieu of tariffs, how about enforcing trade agreements and reducing the trade imbalance? How about regulating businesses like Wal-Mart, Kmart, etc., in such a way that they have to buy America before they buy China, Taiwan, Japan or Korea?

I have many more questions and concerns...and Republicans provide very little in answers or substance....other than a so called 5 Point Plan!

First, the CLINTON administration revised the Community Reinvestment Act, giving loans to people to buy houses they could not afford and authorizing the repackaging of loans into mortgage backed secruities. Actually the bill was the culmination of a failed republican attempt to remove provision 2 of the Glas-Steagall Act. The bill was within hours of dying when Republicans were approached by democrats with an offer the Republicans should have refused. Democrats would vote for Gramm-Leach-Bliley, if Republicans would included their stalled bill Strengthening the provisions of the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).

Republicans agreed to that and forwarded the ammended bill to both houses where the compromise bill passed both houses with 89% voting for it.

While repealing provision 2 of Glas-Steagal was a problem (Republicans in the house could not agree with republicans in the senate on how the bill should accomplish the task), The more damaging part was actually the strengthing of the CRA.

Instead of Government saying "don't discriminate against the low income (code word for minorities), now the federal government could investigate and sue any bank on grounds of discriminating against the poor. From that point on banks were under pressure to make arbitrarily set higher numbers of low income mortgages they must make or face investigations and prosecutution. What would you do?

Today the Democrats installed Dodd-Frank. Banks are not making loans if they have even a shadow of a doubt about the risk of the loan going bad.

I talked to a businessman today a my bank. He tried for 3 months to get a needed loan from a big bank and all they did was give him the royal runaround. So, he tried a Credit Union. He had his loan in 3 days.

Before Dodd-Frank, banks were afraid to not make loans the fed wanted made. Today, They are afraid to make a loan because the loan could be termed "risky" under Dodd-Frank which will bring about prosecution from the Fed.

Pigotry the last person to push through deregulation on derivitives, which blew up with real estate assets, was Larry Summers early in the Clinton years. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Glass Steagle wouldn't have stopped the buying of said derivitives anyway. It would have only affecting deposit assets and banks have much more than that. Again, you have no idea what you are talking about.

DB, Dodd Frank has a thing in there about loans having to be a "qualified" loan. I think qualified is the term. But then nowhere in Dodd Frank does it explain what "qualified" is. DOH! Or who will determine it. How would you like to having thousands of loans out and then someone in the Administration suddenly gives you a definition of it and 75% of your loans don't meet their definition? Then what action will be taken against you because of that? Dodd Frank has lots of things like that in it and people wonder why banks are reluctant.

Pigotry if you really want to know about that Look up "Brooksly Born". She was the head of the agency, Commodity Futures Regulatory Commision", that tried to regulate the derivative industry in 1996. She was very smart and had 20 years as a lawyer in that industry.

Her main foe in this was Larry Summers, economic guy in the Clinton Administration. Also Obama when he first got in. Robert Rubin and Greenspan was also against her. There was testimony in Senate Commitee where Summers openly shot her down.
