Bruce Springsteen to campaign for Obama in Ohio

Amy Sancetta / AP file

Bruce Springsteen performs at an outdoor campaign rally Nov. 2, 2008, for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama at the Cleveland Mall, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Bruce Springsteen will hit the campaign trail on President Barack Obama's behalf.

The musician will join former President Bill Clinton at a free rally in Parma, Ohio, on Thursday, two days after the second presidential debate. Obama will not attend the rally. Springsteen will also do a separate event Thursday.

Campaign manager Jim Messina said in a statement reported by The Washington Post that Springsteen echoes the values the president is fighting for. He added that Springsteen's appearances will help get out the vote efforts in Ohio, a swing state whose 18 electoral college votes are considered crucial.

Springsteen campaigned for Obama in 2008, but this is his first political appearance of the 2012 cycle.

The president uses Springsteen’s song, “We Take Care of Our Own,” in his 2012 campaign song playlist at rallies, the Post reported.

Clinton has become an increasingly prominent surrogate for Obama, campaigning for the president in several battleground states.

Clinton and Springsteen's joint appearance in Ohio underscores the importance of the key swing state. Polls show Obama with a slight lead there over Mitt Romney, but the Republican presidential candidate is spending an increasing amount of time and resources in the state ahead of Election Day.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Has anybody noticed how the good musicians and actors are supporting President Obama, and BAD actors like Chuck Norris, and BAD musicians like Kid Rock and Ted Nugent support Romney?

I guess they can identify with the Republican candidate and his STUPID policies. The Republicans have never picked a tune from Ted Nugent to make a point about their politics, but keep on picking tunes from the Liberal musicians without asking.

We all have Different Opinion. Probably my son would follow Bruce along with many of yous. The fact is that the majority of American think that life is the present that they are living with out worrying about tomorrow. Smoke pot Drink, have sex and enjoy life. If anything goes wrong all they do is make a phone call to your dad. Well there are people around the world with intent of destruction especially trying to destroy the US and Israel. Keep up the good work because you don't learn. Bill Clinton ignore the first attempt on the world trade center. He was enjoying with Monica just like many of yous. But 9 month into Bush term the world trade was hit. Maybe you didn't feel it because it didn't hit home but one day it will and it will be our fault for not paying attention to the signs. Obama is not for any of yous Obama has his mind set for years past. you vote for him you vote for your own unrepentant destiny. God help the US if this happen which it will. Obama does not need to anything he is going to win regardless.

In the church that I use to belong the pastor donated $250 thousand to his own church and then put it on his taxes as donation. Government should stop these tax write off. contribution of any kind should be eliminated.

gregorio057 -- I'm glad someone sees the light. Bill Clinton has been one of my least favorite presidents. I never understood how any president that signed NAFTA, had an affair with a girl his own daughter's age, and ignored the first attempt on the world trade center could be so popular and considered such a great person. Everybody blames Bush -- who inherited some of these problems from Clinton. It makes sense since Obama thinks he inherited his problems from Bush. I'm sure this world trade center hit costs the American people lots of money, as well as the innocent lives lost. America is paying for the signing of NAFTA by lots of outsourcing -- which caused job losses. BTW, I am not a Springsteen fan, and if I were, it would have no beaing on which candidate I would vote for.

Today's kids have it rough, as do parents of today's kids. And from what I see, both sides are doing what they should be doing, growing up. WE have to be certain, tho, that their world is as stable as what we had and lost because of non-involvement. We'll be getting a start back when we re-elect President Obama. He wants for us what he wants for his family, stability. Only President Obama has the wisdom, patience and intelligence to pull it off. BTW, our deficit is down, unemployment is down, jobs are up, and the market it at 13 thou. Vote a straight Democratic ticket for all elections. OBAMA-BIDEN 2012

I like the Boss. I have been to more than a handful of his concerts. Sad to see the passing of CC. Worse is to see people follow or sway because a guy can sing and play music. We all make a big mistake if we think people like the Boss or Cher or George are in the same boat as ourselves. You want to be rich... make a song millions will buy, act in a movie millions will see. If you do that you too can play the game at the top. Again I like Bruce but check into his farms. If you work for a living and believe if you CAN you SHOULD. Then perhaps you might want to do a little research and find out the small things which will make a difference to you and your family. One fact check: Obama is not taking 716 Billion from your own medicare. HE is telling the doctors that you (the doctor) will accept less in payment for the services you are providing at this time. I do medical billing and when that happens the Doctors of our clinic will cease to take those patients. And That's a FACT! So you will be covered, just no one to perform the service.

I know this we use to have a really good charity program at our church but in the past 4 years people have given less and less. Our food pantry isn't full like it use to be. We are having to ask every week and it use to be we never had to ask people and businesses where donating food every week. Not now. We help those who are homeless. We have business leaders who have gone out of business or had to cut employees back to part time. We have doctors and nurses who are retiring early to get away from Obama Care.

Hey, Vivian-379841

.... We have doctors and nurses who are retiring early to get away from Obama Care.

But are we 'One Nation Under God'? I am sure your doctors have the freedom to retire...but as a nation...when more are doing well, we can do well. A real patriot believes in America - when more are doing better, more will be better.

.

It's exactly because the doctors you just mentioned that made it necessry to have health care reform nationally - because individually some doctors just want more profits, having forgot about service to patients which is as important, if not more.

.

the ObamaCare is promoting better market. Imagine when you have AMA has succeeded in limiting placements in medical schools to guarantee their selfish profits.

.

the ObamaCare is promoting better market with time-tested exchanges to allow more customers - those being rejected by selfish doctors and insurers. Imagine when you have AMA has succeeded in limiting placements in medical schools to guarantee their selfish profits, making medical schools so expensive and so hard to get in. Don't tell me this is the result of market. NO, it's selfish medical profession that has ignored their humanitarian obligation to the larger society and wanted more obscene profits, artificially raising prices for medical care.

.

selfish...irresponsible...and self-destructive medical profession is not following market logic - government should come in and intervene. What's disappointing is the President has tried to please these selfish folks and did not get public option and single payer in the ObamaCare. But the ungrateful insurance companies and AMA have attacked the President ever since.

The President has tried so hard to please everybody, giving mroe customers to the insurance companies with this ObamaCare reform. But ever since, health insurance companies have worked so hard to artificially raise health premium, hurting consumers and the President, making obscene profits for themselves, then blaming it on the president and his reform.

.

These jackarses - those insurers - that have raised premiums (unwarranted) to take unfair advantages of unsuspecting consumers and take advantages of the transitional phase of the healthcare reform.

springsteen isn't so popular because he makes music. many people make good music and don't share his kind of acclaim. springsteen is popular because of his musicianship, a unique voice and delivery AND for the content of his songs. they show an unusually thoughtful, respectful, kind, socially conscious human being.

the last quality is what gives his endorsement substance and value. if i had to be trapped in an elevator with a celebrity, i'd much rather be trapped with bruce than with "the donald".

Most celebrities have no idea what it takes to run a country. They sing a song and that is supposed to help decide who wins the election? Is there something wrong with everyones brain. Thats completely illogical, not to mention flat out stupid. Big Bird is so wealthy, he can support himself and PBS. He doesn't need donations from the government or anyone elsse. Furthermore, most people, even lifetime welfare recepients have cable t.v. and do not watch Big Bird anyway. Bill Clinton has stated over and over what a great businessman Romney is and is definitely qualified for the job. Hope is creating opportunity, not more welfare recipients. Hope is taking advantage of the Federal Pell Grant (FREE COLLEGE FOR LOW INCOME PEOPLE)and getting a degree that is NEEDED and WANTED at the time such as medical or computer technology. That grant is available to ALL people and guess what, if you are a so-called minority individual, you get first dibs. So, what is your excuse for not taking advantage of this great opportunity you have been given? Is this Romney's fault? Is this Bill Clintons fault? G.W. Bushs fault? Try this, it's your fault! It's there for you. Plus, fair and equal for all... I feel there should be a flat tax for everyone. Guess what, all of you who get the earned income tax credit back at the end of the year...will be gone. You see a person that pays in only $500 in taxes a year can get back thousands of dollars because the federal government put the earned income credit in to place to help. This is the government already taking millions from the wealthy to give to the less fortunate. How much more wouldyou like? This is what you consider fair? Very illogical minds not thinking things through, not paying attention to the FACTS. Not looking at all sides. Don't for a minute think I am wealthy. I am just above poverty level. I lost my job and did utilize assistance temporarily. Single mom of two children. I did what I had to do and in approximately 9 months, started a new career because of my hard work, effort and pride and with temporary assistance from the government. Government assistance is not there for ANYONE to ABUSE. It's there for emergency situations. I am proof that what Obama is telling many people in this country is not true! Degrading and demoralizing people into thinking there is no way possible for them to survive without the government is a flat out lie and very unbecoming of a President. He is not fit to be in office. He creates hate and causes people to dwell and think bad about themselves. He is not a leader.

Just another successful person who has figured out how to keep the money coming in. I think it is hilarious how these successful celebrities seem to support socialists like Obama. But, I think they do so for their own self-preservation. They figure their is more money in it for them to feign being a liberal socialist than being a conservative. Let's face it, if they support the dems then they get a free pass by the press. Look at Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. They are the epitome of everything the dems hate. Yet, because they spew a few lines about how they should be paying more taxes and support the dem candidates, their "sins" are forgiven. Of course, they are hypocrits, just like Moore is. After all, they've made their fortunes in the Captialist system that dems so decry. I wouldn't be surprised that they actually vote for repubs because they know that, as we are finding out, if socialists actually get their way, then that is bad for the country. So, the Boss continues to get the support and money of the left while getting it in a system created by the right.

Bush is the one who ignored all the warnings, he ignored the warnings before 9/11, he ignored the warnings before Katrina and he ignored the warning about Iraq not having WMD, in all three cases thousands of people died and Bush's buddies profited. From Thomas Blue "We don't know where the Obama raod will lead,"

Does this not present itself as a problem. For four years Obama has been President and we still do not know where it will lead. How is that transparency working that was promised. Did you really not know it was a terrorist attack on 9/11? Until the president said so 2 weeks later? Do you really feel he has your back? Have you read his books? If something happened to Obama is Joe going to treat Iran and China like he did Paul Ryan. How will that help the country. Do your homework, learn about the men. Understand the dealings of wall street. Why was any one able to get a house! Why was this encouraged. You want the rich to pay more in taxes, change the rules, loopholes. Don’t penalize knowledge. I live right outside DC. Do you know how good BIG Government has been for my home value!! Check the shiller report. Know the game.

I remember Bush standing on the rubble after 9/11. He was the right man then, slept a little better that night. I remember 10/07 and the months afterwards. Lost more than ½ of our savings. I still believe in myself and my family and would rather control both than be at the mercy of the government.

WHOS THERE: Clearly no one of substance is there as your lack of logic is astounding. You claim supporting a democrat is no longer showing concern for the poor and downtrodden as if supporting Romney is. Are you insane? The party that wants to dump all social programs on the states and reduce funding for them all by 20% regardless of need shows concern for the poor? The 47% that you and Romney consider freeloaders include the elderly many of whom have paid far more over their lifetime than you ever will with many never living to see a fraction of what they've paid into social security back. It also includes many military who pay no taxes as part of their pact for fighting for our country. You blame democrats for taking and spending others money but ignore the 300 billion for Bush's drug plan crafted by Ryan thats' unfunded. Guess who pays for that and the 2 unfunded wars? The Boss get's it but you clearly don't. You talk about concern for the poor and downtrodden on one hand then spout off about the freeloaders taking your stuff the next. Tina's.....Well said!

First: Programs are there for a reason....to help those who NEED it, and have PAID into it, and DESERVE it, and will BENEFIT from it....NOT A CRUTCH!

Second: A country, any country CANNOT bear the burden of thousands & thousands who have the mentality of whooo, hoooo, hooray for me....watch me "rape" this system while I collect monies from the flippin morons.... that would be US..... the USA. Shame on those who just "feel warm & fuzzy" about throwing our hard earned monies away, while the TAKERS just keep on taking & laughing like it is just too dang easy...and still learn NOTHING! Thanks sooo much: PRES. , CONGRESS, SENATE, & ALL THE REST OF YOU BOO HOO-ERS! So damn easy when it's not really YOUR monies, huh? HAND UP,,,,not hand OUT! AND I cannot afford to raise all the children YOU keep having!! But then again, that IS your lifeline to the easy life in the US.

Third: STOP, STOP the illegals! As it is, we can't even take care of our own!

I worked for 35 yrs, non-stop. Made a good living, paid my taxes, paid all my bills, loved my family, friends, was a good neighbor, obeyed all the rules, was a model citizen. Never made the "Forbes" list, never wanted to anyhow.

Laid off after 20 yrs on the last job. Because of age, (early 50's) "perceived" "possible" health problems down the road driving up insurance claims, I am just about a throw away at this point. SO many out of work certainly gives those who are hiring the benefit of choosing from so many. Cheaper & younger.

SO, I ask: Are we getting BETTER, BIGGER, & STRONGER?

OR: Are we just getting weaker & more DILUTED?

Tinas unbiased views, (sarcasm)

Big Bird and all the muppets are now owned by Disney.

Celebrity 1%ers usually come from humble backgrounds, and they remember the struggle before they 'made it.

80% of all super pac money comes from only 196 persons. They want to buy this election and get their 20% tax cut, and gut regulations that that cost their business money. They won't care if the air is gray like Beijing's, profit trumps everything.

Larry, Larry. NEVER did I say anthing about Republican or Democrat. That would be your word. No, I am neither a liar or a cheater, and how you could ever, ever glean that from my post is puzzling to me... are you a mind reader in disguise, or in this case a type reader in disguise? Irregardless of how I register, I vote for the BEST candidate in the end in my opinion!

In regard to the elderly & service men & women comment: My father was in the Navy. I had 3 brothers in the Army & 1 brother in the Marines. My father fought in the war as well as 2 brothers. One brother did not make it home, he was 19. Do NOT tell me about how I feel about the service men & women! And by the way....they DO file taxes every year just as ALL Americans do!

As for the elderly, I feel today, just as I always have that we take care of our own, and always will.

Yes they paid into the system....MY WHOLE FLIPPIN POINT! They pay in, they take out.

What has ruined it is the PRES & CO has decided, along with other pee-brains, that it's there for everyone....whoo, hooo, party for those who wanna vote for me.

STOP, STOP, STOP the ILLEGALS! SHOOT THAT FLIPPIN MONKEY ON OUR BACKS!

Merry christmas,

I remember Bush in a kids classroom, frozen after the plane hit the second tower. Did he soil himself, (or was everything going according to plan). He always wanted to be a War President and that is a common theme with those republicans who seek the presidency.

Celebs have a right to voice an opinion like everyone else. When entertainers endorse a political candidate it can be a double edge sword, not only for the candidate but for the entertainer as well. Celebrities when rational promote a positive outlook for the candidate and visa versa. When they're irrational they become a liability., this works both ways too.

I wonder if any candidates have ever admonished endorsements from lunatics such as Nugent ?

I guess you have to take the good, bad and the ugly when your running for public office. In the private sector that's not as much the case. Which leads me to my next question.

How dumb is it for businesses to jump into the endorsement game? Talk about burning bridges! When ever I see companies doing this a red flag goes up and I question the leadership abilities and intelligence level of the Ceo's or owners. As smart as it is to keep a separation of church and state it's equally important in my opinion to do the same in most business scenarios. Now if your selling three corner hats or bumber stickers that's another story.

Both Candidates came prepared with their ideology & rhetoric. And Paul Ryan tried to go the Mitt Romney route early on with interruptions, trying to bully the Moderator & answering a question with a mini-stump speech. But Joe Biden was having none of that . and in essence, Biden opened up a can of whoop-donkey on a Ryan who came across as cocky and SCHOOLED him with experience, practicality and facts of the points/accusations made by Ryan.Last week, Conservatives pounced on & praised Mitt Romney for his Style and this week, they are complaining about Joe Biden for doing the same thing except Biden's performance was loaded with facts, truth and context. Joe Biden came across as passionate about the average American man & woman with the type of ease and swagger that could only be described as AVERAGE JOE! That's where style counted. Winner - Joe Biden

Isn't "The Boss" a one percenter? I like his music but don't give a whit who he or any other self absorbed star wants for president. If they're really concerned about the poor and down trodden they can live on a paltry million a year and give the rest to charity. But I'm sure he doesn't think he should give up ANY of his money. Bruce and his ilk want the government to take it from eveyone else.

Look at who is endorsing the repubs, Ted Nugent, Donald Trump, and Clint Eastwood. Now Lindsay Lohan has decided to support Romney, although she hasn't yet decided to register. Of course that's why they are decrying the celebrity endorsements. Maybe they can get Lindsay out to campaign for Romney in between her rehab stays.

I think only a fool would vote for someone based on a celebrity endorsement, but I also think someone like Bruce can maybe get some people more excited about voting.

Why isn't Jay Z and Beyonce bouncing around in Ohio? ( Like I would ever care what uneducated actors and musicians think about politics. )

o buy the way chuck norris is a true american

I personally think one needs multiple sources to determine truth on any matter now a days. NPR does a good job of that. NV does a good job of that.

Endorsements of any kind carry consequences and risks that can potentially change peoples perception of you in an instant. Good bad or otherwise. Anyone who publicly endorses a brand or individual must be prepared to except the consequences of that decision and yes this includes voting . That is a public endorsement though most times confidential and one that only your conscience knows if your true to yourself. If you endorse a god do you mirror his values? Is your endorsement from the heart or motivated by other factors such as monetary gains, fear, intimidation. etc.? Unfortunately some individuals have no conscience and are motivated by my last examples, And yes their vote counts like it or not.

Story telling and songs to help remember those stories are the oldest form of recorded history. They are just as crucial today as they ever were. They take us back to where we used to be before we got old, self-centered and set in our ways. Many of us refuse to ever get that old. They call us progressives and liberals.

Conservative Republicans are the ones to promise a return to the good old days. They use scare tactics to reverse the many accomplishments that have lifted many of our own out of misery. The days before Medicare that now allow the elderly life-saving health care instead of choosing between food or medication. The days before Social Security that left the elderly eating out of trash cans. The days before SNAP and free lunch programs that allow hungry children to focus on education instead of hunger pains. The days when women had no choice and no voice in governmental affairs. They long for the days when personal responsibility applied only to the race for great wealth instead of responsibility to others in the community and our entire nation to lift us all. All of this to allow people like Romney a $20M annual income that pays nothing in income taxes instead of the paltry 14% he paid last year.

I don't want to go back. I'm old enough to remember that the good old days were not good old days at all. I want to go forward to even better days than today. That is why I'm proud to be called a progressive and a liberal. Words that are spoken in disdain by those pushing fear to seek even more great wealth and power. Words that are spoken in disdain by those that are cowering in fear by the lies of vultures.

Bill Clinton has stated over and over what a great businessman Romney is and is definitely qualified for the job.

Correction: Clinton said that Romney was qualified to be president. However, there are only 2 qualifications to be a president: 1) natural born citizen, and 2) be at least 35 years of age.

Based on the Constitution, then yes, Romney is qualified to run for president.

If you do some research you will see that George W. Bush cut Pell Grants during his presidency, and Paul Ryan has further cuts under his budget plan.

I have personally benefited from Pell Grants and vividly recall in 2001 when my Pell Grants were denied under Bush.

Fortunately, I was able to stay in college and get my Bachelor's degree, largely due to federally subsidized loans (with some unsubsidized loans) and thanks to Obama I was able to go back to school and get my Master's Degree funded in large party by subsidized loans.

I am now much better off than I ever was under the Bush Administration.

Tina, you are being extremely hypocritical. You admit to using Government Assistance, but then degrade the president who made it possible to utilize those programs. Would you prefer to be laid off and have no other means of assistance whatsoever?

Neither the President or the Democratic Party want anyone to be dependent upon the Government; but instead they want to ensure that the programs and security will be there to lean on should you need help.

And before you cast aspersions regarding creating hate, please remember that it was the Republicans who met in not-so-secret the night before Obama's inauguration and pledged to obstruct any plan or proposal he presented. In fact, the Minority Leader of the Senate boasted on the record that their #1 priority was to make Obama a one-term president.

So please, tell me, who is the one that is creating hate and division? The President that has sought compromise? Or the Minority Party that has undermined nearly ever proposal the Majority Party has presented?

Regarding Obamacare, Vivian said this of doctors seeing patients:

We are judged by the color of our skin and our income ability.

Uhhh, Vivian, that is against the law. We do have discrimination laws in this country. It is against the law to deny care based on the color of a person's skin.

It is also against the law to deny care based on the ability of a person to pay. That law is called EMTALA (look it up), and every place that provides healthcare is required to follow this law or be fined.

    So much for your argument.

Government has mandated inequality in hiring based on the need to mandate a certain percentage of minorities get hired, qualified or not. Exactly where is the fairness and unbiased in that? It is racism at it's best condoned by our government and created by Jessie and company. And you think it won't wind up in healthcare as well???? Seriously? You people are just ignorant and blind enough to buy into it... until one day you figure out you have totally screwed yourselves. A vote for Obama is just another foot in the grave of the US. @ Jersey Grl...

Well done...spoken like a true RWNJ. When you can't dispute the numbers, just attack the messenger. What color is the sun in your world, baby?

    jrsygrl-6605722

    Blue,

Lowest level in five years, are you serious or seriously brain damaged?

Do you get those talking points spoon fed to you in the nursing home? Every month, the numbers come out, and the next month they need to be readjusted for some reason or other, and it's never lower. Trust these numbers will be adjusted, after the election of course.

Obama's policies have taken root and the economy is starting to move -- even Biden would laugh his ass off at that.

Those STATISTICS, not talking points, were reported on every major news channel Friday. Maybe not Faux, but they're not major. It must be painful to see outside groups with no axe to grind reporting favorable numbers. It's amazing and disappointing to see Eeyores like you and your fellow repugnicans hoping for bad news and being angry at good news. Realty Trac says that the RE market is now finally heading into positive territory. Are they partisan? I don't think so. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is non-partisan and extraordinarily secretive and staffed with career lifers that don't show partisanship. Furthermore, an attempt by Obama or his people to falsify these numbers would be an impeachable offense that could and should land you in prison. Kinda like Richard Nixon. Remember him? I bet you do. These numbers are all easily researched. Do some homework, Eeyore. Have a nice day, sweetheart.

Bruce is more forthe love of music. You can listen to Bruce Springsteen and tell he understands the United States and where his heart is. He is but one person voicing his opinion.

    @merry christmas 2010

I still believe in myself and my family and would rather control both than be at the mercy of the government

I just loving dealing with reich-wing pseudo-intellectuals. It's like being in an as-kicking contest with a one-legged man. You post is so silly and convoluted, it's hard to know where to start in addressing it.

Let's start with your Boy George Bush. You felt better seeing Boy George sit in shock like a deer in the headlights? You need help, dude. Furthermore, he was warned by Clinton's outgoing administration that OBL was a severe threat. He ignored it. He and his people ignored repeated warnings and red-flags leading up to 9-11. Bush spent half of that 8 months between his coronation and the attack "working" on his "ranch". If he had been doing his job, this could likely have been averted. But at least you felt good. That's what's important. As far as having control, do you remember who signed the Patriot Bill? Control? Really?

As to Joe Biden's aggressiveness, you must be joking. You're okay with a jackass cowboy wannabee like bush and support idiots like Rmoney who is beating his chest about Syria and the ME but you're worried about Biden???? Are you really this stupid or just pretending for me?

And I daresay, Sparky, that I understand the economy as well as you. As usual, you're just another condescending RWNJ who assumes that anyone who disagrees with you or points out evidence that refutes your shallow thinking is ignorant or stupid. Look in the mirror. I read constantly. I also read that the shrub's own Sec of Treasury advised him and Cheney against the second tax cut and they ignored him. All three were together when informed of the passage and he stated that " we just destroyed the US economy." And yet fools today -like you- want to act like you know more than he did and want to blame Obama. The Obama road looks pretty good right now- it's headed in a good direction and the fact that Jamie Dimon hates Obama is a good thing, IMO. I suspect that you're the one who needs to read and stop the hate. The blacks have arrived. And Latinos are next. Get over it. Your day has come and gone. You and Rmoney are dinosaurs. Lay down.

What the h#** does this chick know about politics. She isn't even registered to vote so she needs to zip it and worry more about her mothers relationship and cocaine use. Then calls for her fathers help. The next day, Mom and Lindsey have everything all patched up and Dad is the one being thrown under the bus. It was over money. I imagine she asked Dad for money, he said no, Mom finally came through and then all was well. This family can't even keep their own house in order so I don't think anyone should be taking political advice from any of these yahoo's. And certainly not Lindsey flippin' Lohan. Good grief. Republicans just don't get anyone who doesn't vote in their own best interest but instead in the best interests of the country and it's people all 100%. Romney promises a 20% tax cut for the rich yet many of the richest in the country support Obama. The party that complains about having to pay for food stamps when a mother with small children loses her job and needs short term help feeding her kids will never understand people like Springstein who doesn't share their outrage. Don't bother trying to explain.

Pigotry you do not know much about the history of this country. Republicans are the ones who ended slavery. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican and it goes on and on.... Equal opportunity actually means that we all work hard and support ourselves. That's equal opportunity. Earned Income Credit that gives thousands back to people annually is not equal because someone had to bust there a$% to earn that money to give to another person who is simply lazy and unmotivated. Someone who does not want to utilize and take advantage of the great opportunities this country does have to offer. Government assistance should be there for all and anyone in need of temporary assistance but not there for a lifetime of taking from someone elses hard work. That simply is what is not fair.

Marmee, and the Republicans theme song by Nugent is Stranglehold because thats what they have done to our economy, they have blocked everything the President has tried to do.

Nugent sucked when Derek St. Holmes left the group anyway, all the best songs were sang by Derek, but Nugents giant ego couldn't share the stage with anyone.

Wrong Larry and whatever the numbers are. As a guest of the Republican town council meetings, Republicans do support helping anyone in need of temporary assistance especially single moms and I am one of them. What they do not support are lifetime welfare recipients who use the free Obama phone for drug deals. They do not support having to pay for their drug habits or just take a look at government housing in Pensacola, FLorida, Truman Arms. Pay attention to the cinder block wall with barbed wire around the top and the Sherriffs Department has to stand guard because of all the crime within the walls.... This is what tax dollars are paying for....

KW, I just stated above that anyone who decides who to vote for based on a celebrity endorsement is a fool. Let me add, anyone who decides what celebrity they like based on that celebrity's political views is a fool as well. I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for Ted Nugent (which goes beyond his political views), but I will still listen to his music the rare times I hear it.

Why the hell is it Republicans don't know how to use GOOGLE so they can actually arm themselves with FACTS instead of relying on @!$%#s like Rush Limpdick and Sean Hannity to provide them with their MISINFORMATION and PROPAGANDA. It just makes you all look like FOOLS..

In a 2008 Associated Press story, King’s son and namesake Martin Luther King III said:"It is disingenuous to imply that my father was a Republican. He never endorsed any presidential candidate, and there is certainly no evidence that he ever even voted for a Republican. It is even more outrageous to suggest he would support the Republican Party of today, which has spent so much time and effort trying to suppress African American votes in Florida and many other states."

          hey, kwtexan,

what do you think will mean more to many people twenty years from now? the obama presidency or the content of springsteens music.

look at the emotional impact of your favorite music from the early 90's and the g h w bush presidency. what affects you more when you hear it or reflect? i think you're throwing out something of lasting value by abandoning your appreciation of bruce.

that being said, for me personally i will remember obama's election with satisfaction for the balance of my life, but that's because i'm one of those damn liberals. springsteen's music will likely remain a powerful part of our culture for some time to come.

Clinton liked his pot and protested the Vietnam war making no secret of it. Everyone knew Clinton's stance and he was elected anyway. Obama was 12 when Vietnam ended and no one criticizes someone who doesn't volunteer for the military in times of peace. Romney publicly supported the war in Vietnam and now pretends to regret not serving yet took 3 educational deferments and spent 31 months in France during the height of the Vietnam war when we had a draft to avoid it. You know the difference but like your buddies R&R you simply divert attention rather than answering or explaining.

          Karen,

Oh, Bruce I am so disappointed. So much for Born in the USA.

Just for grins, here's some of the lyrics of that 1984 song for which your admiration for The Boss had been so disappointingly eroded by his 2012 politics.

"Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

          "Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
          Born in the U.S.A.

"Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "Son, don't you understand"

"I had a brother at Khe Sanh fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

"He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

"Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go"

Don't feel badly. President Reagan wanted to use the song in his campaign for re-electon.

But Romney skipped the country and was chasing tail in Paris during Vietnam and not one of his boys joined up for either Iraq war or Afghanistan, and he supposed supported the war, well at least supported all 4 wars, just didn't support them enough to put his life or that of his children on the line. Romney actually protested in support of the draft and then he......went to France. He is the worst type of American. He tries to send others to war but not himself, and he "harvests" companies and send jobs over seas. In fact, as people blog today Bain is closing another plant and having the Americans train the Chinese workers. Check youtube and you can see the employees protest. This is a non union company.

People that vote for Romney have been fooled. No one should blame them as Romney is a good salesman, sanf they are fellow Americans that want to see America suceed. Romney talks a good game but he is not running for President to raise the standard of living. He wants to lower American wages and compete with China in a race to the bottom. Check out his comments on the Chinese factory that he visited/invested in. He boasted about how people wanted those $2.00 a day jobs so bad that the plant had to buils a fence to keep people out.

Americans don't get mad at each other just get the facts. Than vote for the person that you think is best. Required viewing though; the 90 minutes where Romney is at a fundraser and photos of him protesting for the draft when he must have known he was going to France.

Doight where do you get you information? Another Democrat lie attempting to downgrade Romney. What branch of the service didObama serve? In fact which one were you in? Neither of you served your country? Obama only served in the Daly corrupt political system in Illinois.

Speaking of salesman Obama should have been a bulls@#tsalesman. He has a never ending mouthful of samples. Obama has certainly raised the standard of living in America. Problem is only for the people added to the food stamp program and illegals. Obama says what people want to hear and makes promise after promise without any delivery.

Competition with China is out of the question with the special trade agreement with China, low import tax, and lazy union workers with high pay and benefits. What happened to the "fair days work for a fair days pay?" Public service unions with their high salaries, benefits, and retirement are bankrupting many states despite poor work performance. Federal employees including Congress members enjoy equal benefits. Obama says he wants to "level the playing field" and should start by bringing federal employees to a compatible level with private sector.

Perhaps you should read Obama's book and you will see the true person. He supports radical views, is prejudice, and in secret is Muslim. Only put that faith aside for political purposes.

FYI: I am a life long Democrat but am sick of the Obama lies, pointing the finger, failures, and incompetence. No doubt USA will continue to decline if he is re-elected. Romney may not be better but he certainly can not be a worse president. There will at lest be some hope.

If pointing a finger back at the Republican celebrities who do the same thing is your only retort, you probably shouldn't speak. It's a criticism of Springsteen that you can't really deflect, but if you want to cling onto the
inherently childish idea that somehow "your" celebrities are more pure than "theirs", feel free to drink that Kool-Aid.

I suppose the irony of Springsteen colluding with Live Nation, et al, to charge hundreds of dollars for
tickets while singing about greedy bankers and other assorted money-lovers eludes his legions of
politically minded fans. It should be shocking that otherwise intelligent people want to close their eyes
to the same sort of hypocrisy that they condemn in the other side, but it isn't.

And, Anderson-656479, sorry that adult conversation bores you. I'm sure there's some cartoons on

MRW, Isn't it just awful - I mean how people are able to be successful and get rich by producing something that people want to pay for?

Much better to just buy companies, fire the workers, and sell for a profit.

You should run as fast as you can from anyone claiming that they and their friends "are America". It frightens me someone can make a statement like that and not question its wisdom - or lack thereof.

And with Hogan's recent escapades, claiming him as your own might not be in your best interests.

Toredown, according to some sources, not only is Hulk a Democrat, but so is Jerry Springer, Tim McGraw, Lady Gaga and Willie Nelson.

              http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/40-celebrities-who-are-democrats

As I said earlier. Democrats are America. It's almost a certainty that those 40-50% who don't vote are probably liberaled-minded as well.

Will Rogers put it this way. "I don't belong to an organized political party. I'm a Democrat." You know that's just gotta eat at the shrinking conservative base, that the liberals don't even have to all vote to win.

Why doesn't someone ask "The Boss" why he has his multi million dollar estate registered for federal tax relief due to his so called "bee farm" on his Rumson property?

Another BS Limosine Liberal who feeds from the trough, and then plays another part in public.

MRW: You consider someone taking advantage of tax loopholes feeding from the trough? You just got kicked out of the republican party. Romney takes a deduction of $77,000 for his wifes therapuetic walking horse and that's one of who knows how many breaks he took to get a 10.3% rate last year he'll hardly agree he's feeding at the trough. A republican blaming rich people for taking tax deductions. I've heard it all now.

Eric: Because a republican exercising his right to take every legal deduction is a good businessman even if he wrote or bribed others to enact them. It's just business. If a rich democrat takes a deduction he's feeding from the trough. I guess the pigs in the GOP are so busy guzzling at the trough they get outraged if others want a bite.

Just so unreal that this is all these people have to do is to try and make nasty comments about what other people are doing or feeling that is at opposite ends of their "beliefs". And here ya go - they'll be on here telling me/us how we all go to their sites - not this Democrat - NOT NOW NOT NEVER!!! These are the ignorant republicans for Romney and his ilk to have more - 20 percent more in tax cuts on top of the Bush tax cuts still in place. The republican fools that are filled with hate for our president and the pawns of the greedy and the depraved against any kindness and goodness. So don't tell me about how a church is not getting enough and how the pantry is not stocked. The GOP is cutting all the funding to help people. That is why the Catholic Nuns have been motivated to show just how much Ryan's Budget cuts help for the poor and desperate. Democrats want our country to be for the least and for the most. Not for the republican billionaires and their selfish attitude toward most of the voters who vote for them.

You do realise if the only people who voted republican were the straight white males you accept as real Americans you couldn't get a dog catcher elected right? I've heard the right wingers on these posts refer to anyone who disagrees with them as gay, homos, fagots, chinks, wetbacks, lesbians etc. I've heard our president on these blogs called a ni**er, eggplant, Muslim, Monkey, communist, socialist and more. You never understand when you post those types of comments and spew hate instead of reason why you can't get people to see things the way you do. Sheesh!

The truth is that Barney Frank appears to be very comfortable in his sexuality while the suspicion continues to grow in mainstream circles that Paul Ryan appears anything but (no pun intended).

'Gay-dar,' that unscientific yet often surprisingly accurate instinctive identifying response that nearly all gay and many straight people claim to possess, especially younger, more sophisticated, and generally cosmopolitan (urbanized) women, often rings off the hook whenever they scan either staged or candid photographs of Paul Ryan, hear him speak without seeing him, or see him in person or on videotape without actually hearing him.

Not that our instincts prove to be correct 100% of the time, but that is why they're called instincts.... because many times they DO prove to be correct.

No one that I know believes Paul Ryan to be exclusively homosexual, no more than they believe that he is exclusively heterosexual. In short, they suspect that he is more likely a closeted bisexual, having created for himself thus far an enormously successful public life while navigating the complex waters of an apparently equal successful family life....alongside his other 'interests'.

So where does that leave us? Does it matter one iota what sexual preferences a candidate might possess? Well, for Democrats, as a rule, no; for many Republicans, however, yes, very much so.

There is a significant element of the Republican Party which supports limitations on protected social equivalencies for millions of Americans from the LGBT community.

There is a growing element of the Republican Party which truly believes that sexual orientation is a choice rather than a biological imperative (Bachmann, et al) which somehow can be 'corrected' ("Pray away the gay").

There is a smaller but highly-committed element of Christian fundamentalists in the Republican Party which not only supports but actively promotes the lawful and literal extermination (yes, the outright execution) of LGBT Africans in the nation of Uganda (social engineering taken to the extreme, a la Nazi Germany).

For Paul Ryan to continue to appeal to this conservative Republican base, he has no choice but to publicly embrace many of these extremist social positions. Who is to say how many he might be embracing in
private, while at the same time, perhaps, living the lie?

It is this increasingly contradictory perception of Paul Ryan which unsettles so many in the roll-up to the election. While we may remain perfectly capable of supporting a conservative Republican nominee, and while we may remain equally capable of supporting a closeted bisexual politician, it is proving rather difficult to support a conservative Republican nominee who, while publicly embracing extremist political and social positions, might one day prove to have been a closeted bisexual all along.

Might have figured gay rights would eventually take place in these comments. Do you really know if any of these people are gay? And does it really matter? Obama changed from against gays to approving of gays when he decided it would help him in the election -- just like he all of a sudden decided to let the illegal immigrants stay in our country.

I feel no one has any right to call someone gay or bisexual without proof of same. This is showing a lack of class when you call Ryan "gay" and "bisexual" with no proof. Same with Springstee -- do you have proof he is gay? If so, what does it matter? You libs need to prove that you have a brain and care about someone other than yourselves. And you think only Republicans are against gays. Let's try the "live and let live" theory.

Bill Clinton is disgusting, as is his wife. Romney has more class than either of them. BTW, if we had no corporations, where would this country be? I do not approve of the salaries of most of the CEO's, but I realize we have to have some big companies in this country. I agree there is a lot of greed, but it's in both parties. Neither of these candidates is poor or middle-class. They are both very rich. As I told my ex mother-in-law you don't have to be smart to be rich, just crooked will work. Do you think Bill Clinton and Obama are white as snow? Maybe Mitt is richer than most, but he is a businessman, and that is what this country needs -- not some lawyer. Most lawyers are trained to be liars, or so it appears. They will defend anybody and anything if they're being paid a sizable sum.

For all the so called "Artists" who continue to think we are still back in the Vietnam anti-war world, if you like Socialism so much then just move to Cuba, China, or other Socialist country. Who cares anyway what Springsteen thinks? or Spielberg, or Tom Hanks, or George Clooney. They are all clueless and live in a fantasy world. Use their Pro-Obama mantra as a publicity stunt and popularity contest. They probably cannot name 3 things that Obama has done successfully and neither can I. 4 more years of Owebama and Bruce will not be singing "Born in the USA" it will "Death of the USA" as we go over the cliff and BK like our friends in Europe you know the P I I G S! How bad does a President have to be to finally get these Bozos to shut the F Up and just try to play music or make a decent movie?

By the way, any idiot who really thinks Obama is a socialist or anyone who supports him is, needs to read a few books not written by right-wing nutjobs and find out what socialism really is.

BrentOc: You sad little man. You call Obama a socialist based on nothing. Assuming you include Obamacare as a socialist program ignores that 40% of our citizens are already having medical provided by the government with medicaid, medicare and VA. Obamacare will only raise that to 60%. Requiring people to have insurance or be penalized isn't socialist it's the same as being required to have auto insurance. Why would the party that demands people be self sufficient not support a program that does exactly that? More people are receiving government benefits because Bush dumped over 6 million on his way out onto the unemployment, welfare, medicaid and food stamp rolls not because of anything Obamas done.

Three things Obama achieved. Ordered the strike that took out Bin Ladin, completed his campaign promise to implement Obamacare, turned around the many consecutive months of job losses averaging 760,000 a month under Bush to a positive record for over 30 months, policies created an increase from a 7900 DOW when he took office to over 13,000 today and got us out of Iraq. That's more than three but I got carried away.

Why don't you ask the people that are jobless in this country what Obama has actually done for them -- Not just the ones who have used up all their unemployment benefits and are now living off relatives, but the ones who looked diligently for a job and could find nothing--because there aren't any available jobs. These people need to be in that list of unemployeds also. The job situation could improve if we brought the manufacturing jobs back from China. This will never happen because a certain liberal by the name of Clinton decided to sign NAFTA two months prior to leaving office. Even my 11-year-old grandson asked me the other day if I knew China owns this country. I knew everything I buy has "made in China" on it. I knew we owe China a lot of money, but I was surprised when he told me this. I was taught "Charity Begins At Home". Guess this does not apply to politicians. They like giving our money and jobs to other countries.

Right wingers want all rich people to demand a rate lower than Romney's 10.3% or they make him look greedy. Never mind I forgot, Romney wants to lower his 10.3% rate 20% more as he's clearly paying way too much.

Nobody hates millionaires and billionaires. We just hate when millionaires and billionaires stomp on those less fortunate and America in general just to make a few more bucks that they don't need anyway. I respect and admire the wealthy, as long as they got their wealth through hard work and ingenuity, and are willing to pay their share. Those who had their money handed to them and then cry about having to pay the same tax rate as the rest of us are the ones we don't like. They are the true "entitled".

Did voting for Obama based on skin color help heal white americans like B.S. with white guilt syndrome? Or will Obama play the race card again and cause mentally weak Americans like B.S. to once again vote based on skin color to feel better about their guilt?

No, I think people took a look at the Republicans that allowed 9/11 to happen and then went into Iraq and sacrificed American Treasure as being a poor choice. They also saw Sarah Palin as the idiot she is. If you voted for Bush twice you really should not give anyone advice because as Bush said, "Fool me once....shame on you, fool me................you can't get fooled again."

Do you remember what the last year under Bush was like after 7 years of this great idea to stimulate jobs? As I remember we were losing 760,000 jobs a month. But I'm sure it'll work this time.......Rolls eyes.

Other than Obamacare which simply make those who don't have insurance buy it if they can. No more socialistic than being forced to buy auto insurance. Seems to me the 300 billion drug plan crafted by Ryan and implemented by Bush is the only true socialist program implemented in the last 8 years Making every single one of us responsible for $1,000 a year to pay for a drug plan we may never use is redistribution. I guess it's ok when a republican does redistribution.

Did i hear ANYONE of you complain or denounce the murders on our border ( because of fast and furious) and our own american citizens overseas who basically begged for more military support months before the attack on 9-11-12? nope. you are just as guilty as him by supporting him. if he is re-elected you're in for a big suprise. obozo doesn't give a fig about you. he is all for a socialist nation and he will be the dictator. so people when you have all your rights, constitution included, taken away from you i hope you will be happy with the outcome. by the way i've read almost all of oblamacare. you should too. see what's in there. scary stuff. but you won't because you believe everything that drips off his poisonous tongue.

Who the hell is not going to drive to avoid paying insurance? And how do you avoid your tax dollars going to pay for that 300 billion drug plan which is redisribution pure and simple. Tell us how you'd avoid paying that? Obamacare ensures no one will have to die because they can't afford health care but requires those that can afford it to buy insurance. Why should I pay taxes to keep you alive if you had a serious illness and no insurance. I assure you it wouldn't be voluntary.

Does Bruce suffer from a disorder called “Passover Syndrome?” Almost exclusively, it afflicts relatively affluent Caucasians and is characterized by an array of cognitive delusions that ultimately may prove dangerous for its sufferers and those around them.

Passover Syndrome’s most prominent behavioral feature consists of whites projecting historical blame onto other whites and hoping that nonwhites will see them as not-so-white for doing so. Just as the ancient Israelites smeared sacrificial lamb’s blood over their doorways in order to escape the Angel of God’s vengeance, these delusional Caucasians smear bright red anti-racist graffiti—or, in extreme cases, the literal blood of “rednecks” and any “right-wing white” who refuses to get with the program—over their doorways in the hope that when the Dark Angels finally come en masse seeking “justice,” they won’t accidentally notice that the people with the bright red anti-racist paint over their doorways also happen to be white.

                                        ssmithlg,

So You are saying that the ancient Israelites were trying to look like someone they were not? So they were not really trying to id themselves as Israelites to the Angel of God's vengeance, but they were trying to fool the Dark Angels?

In essence you have just equated the ancient Israelites with those whom you clearly see as hypocrits - that is, white people trying to appear non-white. And delusional, too.

You should run with that. I believe that may be a brand new interpretation.

gusotto, I congratulate your for knowing that you've always opposed his views. Many posters just came to opposition today. Note the very next posting after yours (# 32), who says From Boss to BItch with one decision.

You should google the 1984 song "Born in the USA" and read its lyrics. It was not a rousing song of patriotic fervor by any means.

Maybe you haven't been listening, but The Boss has always been The Boss. The "one decision" of which you speak (supporting liberal democratic politics?) was made well over 25 years ago.

Bruce Springsteen campaigning for a Democrat is not a surpirse. For whatever reasons, Springsteen spends his life locked in a ridiculous mode of being a perpetual true believer in some nutty fantasy, a fantasy of good guys versus bad guys--a Hopalong Cassidy political view raher than a true picture.

Sad that someone with Springsteen's success cannot see the damage done by the Obama administration and cannot see the people suffering. Always sad to see someone's political commitment having a brainwashed cult-member nature.

Obama's policies 'take care' of people's lives the way that gangsters 'take care' of an enemy. People are hurting very badly and Springsteen is completely blind to it all.

I think your first paragraph is spot on. Springsteen's music is popcorn protest pandering to a particular point of view. It's good business for him to be politically active. Just like entertainers on the other side, Springsteen is writing for a very specific audience and he knows what they want to hear. He confirms everything they believe for $100+ dollars a ticket.

The final two paragraphs are misinformed.

Like you don't. Like you aren't a republican lap dog of all the tax cuts and more tax cuts the republican Mitt will put in place. How is that going to affect all the Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. It will also have an effect on the VA and do more damage to our postal service and will bring the country right back to the great second recession of republican fools for billionaire greed.
