It's amazing to me how people perceive things. Martha Raddatz should never have been moderator. Not only was she cutting off Ryan, but she allowed Biden to fully say his remarks(even though they were condescending)....I think she may have planned this before the debate.

All I saw was this kid with a big grin on his face, smiling like an embarrassed idiot, watching his elder scold him for being wet behind the ears. I was a Young Republican and voted for Nixon, Goldwater and Reagan. However, I think these men would be considered liberals today by the strong right wing extremists republicans shift to the right. VP Biden was trying to prove to everyone that he is still up to the job. He would have been much better off focusing on what Ryan was saying and then as required using his “years of experience” to deliver his own answers, facts and statistics on the topic discussed. After all this should have been an easy afternoon for him, this was his “baby” as he is an integral part of the government.

I heard from friends and relatives in Europe today after the debates and they are so glad Biden did so well after seeing the debate over there. They fear another disastrous republican administration that leads to war and economic ruin as it has a worldwide effect on them too. They said that Ryan doesn't belong anywhere near the White House with the poor performance they saw! I never even had written my opinion that would have agreed with them!

It is difficult believe that anyone really thought Biden did better than Ryan. It comes off as
"spin". The Democrats are desperate to make it seem that Biden "won" this debate. - which he did NOT. They will say anything to try to sway the opinion.

The loser in this debate was the USA citizens. The 90 minutes given for the debate is too short and the questions boring. Two (2) minutes to answer the questions is way too short. I would prefer a three (3) hour, with a 15 minute break in the middle, format. Instead of only three (3), have five (5) debates, with only 2) topics per debate.

When Romney won the first debate by interrupting Obama and cutting off the president and the guy asking the questions and Lying the entire debate Republican called it a win even the Liberal media said it was a win for Romney.

Help me you math challenged GOP. A loop hole by the current definition is another name for a deduction on your 1040. All legal and outlined in the tax code. When you take a deduction (such as a donation to charity) that is now a loop hole, there are many, many. But when you close it (ie get rid of the deduction) that causes a tax INCREASE on your bottom line. But your hero's keep talking about closing loop holes which are then tax increases which they also say they won't do. So help me here, is it a lie? And how is it that the rich people are not upset about loosing their deductions for things the working class can't even use? Sounds like a bit of a conundrum to me?

@Judith: Evidently you did not watch the CNN telecast...they ran a clock throughout the debate and at the end Vice President Biden had spoken for about 1 minute and 30 seconds longer than Congressman Ryan.

Not everyone reacts the same way...I watched it with an Independent (who is an Obama supporter) and that person suddenly exclaimed about 1/2 way through the debate, "Biden has GOT to stop laughing". Their view was that the laughing was trying to cast dispersions on everything Ryan was saying, and at times it came across as "if you can't honestly debate it...laugh at it" unfortunately in the view of that Independent some things Joe laughed at deserved to be treated seriously and debated...not doing so gave Ryan's comments increased creditability...in their view.

Yes I read the article too. It appeared on NBCNews.com a couple of weeks ago, headed “Australian deputy PM:’Cranks and crazies’ in GOP threaten US economy”

Wayne Swan is his name and according to the article he also serves as treasurer and is his center-left Labor Party government's ranking finance minister.

My understanding is that since elected Wayne Swan (prior to his current job was a part time treasurer in a local club) in 4 short years, managed to empty the government’s coffers and accumulate debt of some A$ 170 Billion. (Australian economy is roughly 10% of our economy). His and his government’s record in running the country is dismal and I believe that in less than 12 months the government will be swept from office by a landslide. According to all forecasts, Mr Swan will also lose his seat.

As far as I am concerned he should be the last person criticizing the GOP. The biggest threat to the world’s financial security is our escalating debt, at last count over $16 Trillion of which President Obama is responsible for the last $6Trillion. As you can see both President Obama and Treasurer Swan have a lot in common, they are both big spenders and both have little to show for the money spent.

How soon you libs forget that it was DEMOCRATS that started most of the wars. Yet you insist on saying the Republicans are war mongers. And it was Al Quida that started the wars in Aghanistan and Iraq. Or do you subscribe to Obama's crawling, apologizing and bowing. We have not spent 'billions of dollars on defunct solar companies'. Of the $90 billion allocated to energy which Romney talked about, only $21 billion was allocated to green companies (the rest going to things like revamping the electricity grid, transportation and yes, clean coal development). Of that, $16 billion was actually loaned, to 35 companies, 3 of which have indeed gone bankrupt. The total loan allocations to those 3 companies was $648 million.

Therefore, your 'billions of dollars on defunct solar companies' becomes, at most, 'more than half a billion dollars on solar companies which went bankrupt'. The success of the program actually exceeds congress' expectations at the time they passed the bill. Because you skew right, I do not expect you to modify your hyperbole to fit the facts, any more than I expect Romney to stop talking about $90 billion going to green energy, but those are still the facts.

No serious analyst believes we could drill our way out of reliance on foreign resources, so long as oil is the predominant source of energy. We currently produce 5.7 million barrels a day, and consume 18.8 million barrels a day. And that's with increasing production and decreasing consumption. There is virtually no way we can make up that difference no matter how many more drills we build - and if we did (as we see with the Keystone pipeline), it would simply go on the global market, unless you think Romney would pass regulations prohibiting energy producers from making money on their product. The idea has been around since Nixon, and only politicians and gullible partisans continue to say that it's possible.

The only people who would see a 'tax' on their healthcare (others call it a penalty, but the issue is semantics), are those who choose not to get health insurance. That 'tax' is to pay for their expensive emergency room care, which would otherwise be paid by the rest of us taxpayers. Saying it is a 'tax on everyone' is, simply put, a lie. In addition, it uses free-market competition to lower costs, and reduces the debt by $1 trillion over 10 years.

Obama has deported more undocumented Mexicans than any President in our history. His 'path to citizenship' applies only to those who were born or brought here as children, who have been educated here and/or served in the military. Saying he lets 'illegals swarm across our borders' is - yet again - a lie.

I like a leader who shows respect to other leaders, you don't, fine. I've never heard Obama apologize for America, perhaps you'd like to give an example? The day after the Libya attack, while the whole world (including the Arab street) was talking about that youtube video and how it sparked all these protests, I read an AP report which said that the White House did not believe the attack to be spontaneous, and was investigating whether it was preplanned and who was behind it. The next day the AP reported that Obama was moving military ships into the region with precision ordinance capable of striking targets painted by drones, indicating that they were looking for those responsible with - as it were - guns drawn; hardly a response appropriate for street protesters.

I will admit that I didn't understand why Susan Rice from the State dept. contradicted the administration a few days later - although I suspect that they may have decided not to issue a warning to the terrorists that we are gunning for them - but that doesn't change the fact that the first indication I got that it was an attack came from the White House, not McCain, or anyone in the GOP (certainly not Romney, who took the opportunity to verbally attack the embassy alongside the terrorists).

Partisan attacks aside, the administration's tireless focus on bin Laden assures me that Obama will not stop gunning for the guys who attacked Americans oversees. Can't say the same about Romney, who seems focused on big increases in large battlefield components (that the military says we already have enough of), and who said outright that he 'wouldn't move heaven and earth' to get the guy who killed 3,000 Americans on our soil. Ask yourself this: Why would anyone think he would move heaven and earth to get the guys who killed only 4 Americans oversees? And how is building more submarines going to help special forces get these guys?

Pennylane, both Romney and Obama requested more time to speak and complained to the moderator about being cut off. They both asked for their allotted time to speak and they both asked for the appropriate back and forth that should be allowed. And if you remember correctly it was Obama who commented on how many seconds he had left to speak when the moderator told him his time was up. All of the comments by both Romney and Obama occurred after each was able to finish speaking. Neither made a practice of interrupting the middle of one anothers comments; they just asked for opportunity to respond.

What Biden did was disrespectful and rude. This was a debate and should have followed debate forum and rules. You cannot interrupt an opponent in the middle of their commentary and call them liars, tell them to prove it, or laugh at them. Your opportunity to express your thoughts is when it is your turn to talk. Notice every time Biden said something Ryan wanted to comment on he wrote it down. Everytime Biden wanted to comment on something Ryan said he just interrrupted. The moderator should have never allowed that to happen. Biden behaved like a child and bully. The only reason why it comes across as Biden gave more information is because Ryan was rarely able to finish a thought without Biden busting in on him. Ryan showed up for a debate, not a playground argument. I respect Ryan for keeping his composure and being respectful through the whole thing. I just watched an interview where the reporter interrupted the President 16 times. President Obama protested several times.

I was proud of Vice President Biden...he had great command of the facts...something that Ryan obviously was not prepared with. Ryan's attempts to 'pull the wool' over America's eyes was laughable. I give Biden credit for doing it. I look forward to Obama calling Mr. Romney out on his 'etch a sketch' campaign as well.

Biden got 1 minute 20 seconds more talk time than Ryan did. So not only did he get his time in, he took more than the other guy...Hey, sounds kinda like the left's agenda doesn't it. (It's called Google, you should try it out. I got my facts from the St. Louise Beacon among other resources...not Fox News. Try taking your head out of the sand.)

If anyone with a brain would take the time to understand - the reaction to lies is either to interupt or laugh at the liar.

Since both the moderator and Ryan both felt compelled to continue with their tete-a-tete for the evening Biden did what most other humans do when faced with blantant lies and untruths they laugh.

Body language-you want to talk body language. I want to talk about issues people and the fact that again as usual we got nothing from Ryan beyond the stump speech we have heard for months now.

There are a lot more appropriate ways to react to "lies" than that. Those are not the only two options. I would have given Biden the win in the debate if he had been sincere and direct and toned down the physical flailing and smirking in his rebuttals. Instead, he came off looking like a bully. You want to downplay body language -- unfortunately, when interacting with other people, body language is king. The issues were sunk by the insolence. Biden should know better.

BTW, one of Officials on the British Olympics committe/board said that Romney was abslutely correct in what he pointed out.
