Obama team: Romney 'trying to cover up' views on abortion

Updated 12:45 p.m. - The Obama campaign is looking to inject Mitt Romney's pledge Tuesday to pursue no legislation related to abortion as president into the center of the campaign.

Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter accused Romney of trying to "cynically and dishonestly hid[e] his real positions" after he told the editorial board of the Des Moines Register that there is "no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda."

Evan Vucci / AP

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks during a campaign rally on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

"On this issue and so many others, women simply just can't trust Mitt Romney," Cutter told reporters. "We're not saying that he's changed his mind on these issues, we're saying he's trying to cover up his beliefs."

As both presidential candidates stump in Ohio, Mitt Romney made an apparent shift on abortion, which was pounced upon by President Obama's campaign. Meanwhile, the tug of war over Big Bird has ruffled feathers with the nonprofit behind Sesame Street. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

The Obama team's tack is tied into their approach toward Romney since last week's debate versus President Barack Obama, painting the Republican presidential nominee as deceptive in his views so as to put a centrist veneer on his past conservative positions.

"As Barack Obama said in 2008, 'if you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from,'" said Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg in response. "Americans are tired of the same old politics as usual, and they won't be fooled by a flailing campaign's manufactured outrage. Mitt Romney will deliver real change and turn our country around."

Whether this criticism can take hold in the waning days of the 2012 campaign is another matter.

Romney has sometimes encountered difficulties in navigating his promises in the Republican primary and his pivot toward the center in the general election. Among his promises was a pledge to pursue the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act," which would prohibit abortion after 20 weeks with exceptions for birth defects and the health of the mother.

"Mitt Romney is proudly pro-life, and he will be a pro-life president," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul told NBC News in response to the candidate's comments to the Iowa newspaper. Saul also told National Review Online:  “Governor Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life.”

Conservatives have otherwise been muted in criticizing Romney, seemingly allowing the candidate some leeway in campaigning against Obama.

But the president -- who's expected to assume a more aggressive posture versus Romney in the next debate -- may well try to litigate his GOP opponent's apparent shift in their next showdown on Oct. 16. The Obama campaign has used Republican rhetoric on abortion rights and contraception to build an advantage over Romney among women voters in many swing states.

"We will wait to see what happens that night," said Cutter.

Romney will say anything to get elected; just juxtapose his interviews, it's like night and day. How any republican can trust or even vote for this clown is....I have no words for it.

Republicans are trying to keep everything they want to do "covered up" because nothing Republicans want to do is popular with the voters. Who would want politicians trying to butt in on what's going on in people's bedrooms, like Republicans used to do back in the 70s.

Romney still has that 500 lb. tax return gorilla in room too.

He really needs to open up that door because the American People have a right to know if we have a potential felon running for the highest office in the land. My guess is Romney DID lie, either to us or to the IRS, which is why he's keeping his tax returns covered up too. The American People have a right to know BEFORE the election.

I have the same sentiments about Obama.

When its been obvious to everyone for two weeks that the attack on the Libyan embassy was a planned terrorist attack but the White House tells the American public for weeks that it was a a result of a "Spontaneous Protest" that got out of hand because of a Youtube video, its obvious that this administration will lie through its teath.

Lets not forget the Solyndra Scandel, Fast and Furious, Secret Service Sex Scandel, GSA, etc. that this admin has been covering up.

No, James, your above comment shows that you should have no say in this stance. President Obama does not have a failed policy in regards to Libya. You really need to do your research and not just spout off what FUX Entertainment tells you. How many times does anyone have to tell you or anyone else that the investigation in Libya is fluid. You and others like you are so very quick to go straight for the jugular where THIS president is concerned. We, as Democrats, are just as interested in what happened in Libya, but unlike Republicans, we are willing to wait until ALL the information has been gathered and presented.

Both Mitt and his wife (she is a bit more believable) have said that there are items in their tax returns for which the US public would attack them. We already know they are rich, big deal. I would think that would be enough proof for anyone that has doubts that there must be something to hide. It is not like he has never lied about his taxes in the past.

Romney keeps blaming Obama on the economy but fails to mention which policies are at fault.

Ok CONS, let's do some ARITHMETIC...

First,

Name the “Obama” POLICIES and the AMOUNTS that you say added trillions to the debt.

Next,

ADD the total amounts and DEDUCT from the current $16 TRILLION.

The balance = GOP spending.

Remember the following…

Expenses to FIX the GOP unfunded and failed policies like TARP and the stimulus are still GOP spending and NOT Obama's fault so DO NOT count those policies.

All expenses from the previous GOP administration’s "unfunded" policies that Obama added to HIS budget is also Republican spending.

INTEREST on the GOP TRILLIONS of debt is NOT for Obama to be responsible for either, it is GOP spending too. They own that interest.

Also,

The Bailouts are LOANS to “repair” more GOP screwed up policies, the GOP wanted those to be FREE of charge, a ”going away gift” to the Banks and Wall Street, from Bush.

Do not add policies before Reagan because there was NO DEBT PROBLEM before that, Reagan took office when the debt had ONE TRILLION and could have been tackled and fixed with comprehensive tax reform but he did not.

Entitlements are a tiny fraction of the debt and they always bring their own revenues thru payroll deductions as premium payments. Entitlements are NOT free, it’s paid into insurance.

Saying that the Democrats had a “majority” doesn't count either, because we all know the filibustering, obstructing, uncompromising, DO NOTHING GOP party of pledges to “NEVER bring revenues” has had the “CONTROL” and all those failed GOP policies were drafted by Republicans AND all those policies passed with GOP majorities of votes going back to Reagan.

The CONS will NEVER have policies or numbers to blame on the Democrats because they DO NOT exist. Look them up, I tried. Every single policy at fault are GOP owned, drafted and vigorously voted by them.

DO NOT get fooled into thinking it is Obama’s or the Democrat’s fault. It is time to stop that Myth.

Get ready. All you will get from the Republican Fox-Rush-bots is going to be more diversions and ridicules to change the subject, so be prepared for those.

This is NOT blaming the GOP or BUSH, this is ARITHMETIC !!!!

I see the desperation not only from Obama but the media that has an ideological investment in him. Accordingly, look for them to pull out all stops to smear Romney in any and every way possible. They've already said that no lie is off limits because most of the lies should hold up until after the election.

Case in point; look for the NYT to run a story they've had for a while now about Romney being a timid and somewhat error prone individual despite the commanding performance the country saw during the first debate. Yes, the story is a contradiction of reality and an obvious lie but desperate times call for desperate measures. The problem is that only the gullible that are already in the tank for Obama will believe it because they will want to believe it.

  • Romney is a classic Sociopath:
  • Glibness and Superficial Charm
  • -
  • Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
  • -
  • Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."
  • -
  • Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
  • -
  • Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
  • Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

The news of the day is the Pres Obama/Sec Hillary Clinton cover-up of their utter incompetence in protecting our Ambassador to Libya at the Consolate at Benghazi, Libya. Despite repeated requests for additional security and four attacks against western facilities in Benghazi, the State Dept/White House did nothing. The then lied about the cause of the attack, contributing it to the anti Muslim video, when they knew within 24 hours that this was a terrorist attack. Now even State Dept officials are revealing that they NEVER believed this attack was related to the video. Does MSNBC cover this story? No, they want to cover a supposed cover-up by the Romney team about how he REALLY feels about abortion. Are you kidding me? Like they know or care. Big Bird? REALLY??? Anything to distract from real issues.

Seems in previous elections that both parties were always able to distract and polarize voters with insignificant peripheral issues, which ended up getting most voters so caught up in the BS that they'd lose sight of the bigger picture. Not this time!

If they (Both Parties) don’t start addressing the real problems in our country like “out-sourcing”, illegal immigration and the out of control costs of health care insurance, by the next election – American citizens may just have to run a nation-wide campaign to vote every single incumbent elected official out of office, so that maybe they’ll finally get the message.

Wouldn't it be More Productive if Our Elected Leaders Started Working Together as AMERICANS for AMERICANS and AMERICA, instead of just bickering, stalling and posturing for the next election as democrats and republicans! The American People have had it with this unproductive BS! The sad thing is that both parties stink! Neither party is really looking out for the best interest of the US citizens who elect them and who they're supposed to represent.

Romney is currently pro-life. But, he and others recoginize the legality of abortions as the law of the land, and that there is not a significant enough movement to overturn this and the courts are likely to stand in the way. The only thing that Pro-life means at this time is to insure that federal dollars are not being spent on abortions.

Feel free to keep grasping at straws that don't exist.

The deficits are from 1968 polices put in place by Lyndon Johnson and Democrats in power at that time. They knew the great society would be more expensive than what revenues would support, so they also legislated our current system of borrowing from Social Security to hide it.

Riddle me this. Since by the Constitution states that Congress has to write the spending bills, and that the president cannot spend one penny without legistlation from them . . . Why are you blaming financial problems on the President, when it was Congress that approved everything the president did or better put, had to do by law?

It always amazes me how liberals set up a strawman version of an opponent, then act offended when that strawman version is found to be untrue. Obama set up a version of Romney that his supporters firmly believed in, they refused to do independent research and only used the filtered information provided by their various echo chambers. The media was also complicit in this as can be seen from the myth of Romney gaffes on his European trip.

The debate was set up to be live, which meant that neither Obama nor the Media could filter Romney to fit into the nice caricature of him that they had set up. Romney was the real Romney. He was entirely consistent with his previous stances. But because he was unfiltered, liberals are finally getting the first view of the real Romney. Of course this doesn't match up with their biased filtered view of Romney they had lied on.

Instead of calling out Obama and the Media for providing this incorrect filtered view of Romney, liberals have now picked up the latest Obama "filter" and are accusing Romney of lying, despite countering information. The biggest example of this is the 5 Trillion dollar lie that Obama has presented as Romney's plan. This "lie" was based on a Tax Policy Center report that has many glaring flaws. Flaws were so glaring that the American Enterprise Institute issue obvious corrections not even a day later, such as bond interest deductions being removed for high earners, which caused the Tax Policy Center to REVISE their own numbers. Of Obama and the Media continue to use the original report instead of the revised report.. so who is lying on that report. Meanwhile other analysts have further pointed out more errors on the Tax Policy Center report such as the assumed 0% growth baseline. Of course, a 0% baseline is nearly impossible. Even in this crap economy there is 1% GDP growth.

So, yes... Romney is lying, but only if you are so blindly partisan as to believe your filtered views that a campaign wants you to believe are the only truths. Silly that.

Wow, the spin from the right on this story is simply amazing. They are ignoring another obvious flip flop from Romney, this one a potential lie given that Romney has come out in favor of specific legislation to ban abortions.

Romney writing in The National Review, June 18, 2011:

"I will advocate for and support a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion."

Romney 24 hours ago:

“There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.”

Romney's own campaign came out with this press release later that evening..

“Mitt Romney is proudly pro-life, and he will be a pro-life president. Gov. Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life,”

So which Mitt Romney would sit in the Oval office? Likely the pro life Romney that would indeed sign legislation banning abortions, he stated so in the 2007 GOP primaries.

This is another blatant attempt by Romney to deceive voters.

Hey Get Real:

The day after the Libya attack, while the whole world (including the Arab street) was talking about that youtube video and how it sparked all these protests, I read an AP report which said that the White House did not believe the attack to be spontaneous, and was investigating whether it was preplanned and who was behind it. The next day the AP reported that Obama was moving military ships into the region with precision ordinance capable of striking targets painted by drones, indicating that they were looking for those responsible with - as it were - guns drawn; hardly a response appropriate for street protesters.

Did you get that? The first indication I got that it was an attack came from the White House, not McCain, or anyone in the GOP (certainly not Romney, who took the opportunity to verbally attack the embassy alongside the terrorists). Of course, if you get all your 'information' from Fox, you would have missed that.

Cover-up indeed.

These facts are important as well as the economy, jobs, and foreign policy. They are important to all women who demand to deal with their own bodies. We will not have some person we don't know telling us what we can and cannot do with our bodies. This IS an important topic and the American public deserves to know what the candidates stand on.

What specifically are you talking about in regards to people telling women what they can and can't do to their body?

WOW......you believe anything huh?

You know abortions are still legal, don't you? There is a war on women but its called Shirah Law!

OMG! James, are you totally blind? Do you not hear what has been going on across this nation? There has been widespread legislation put forth by the extreme right wing to ban abortion, to ban women's rights to many health issues. Again, you really need to look at the whole picture. You do not know what you are talking about.

James - Seriously "Shriah Law" you need to stop watching Fox and turn off the Sean Hannity Radio show and get out of the basement and live in the real world. No one here beside you and your elk are worried about "Shirah Law" within the USA. While yes abortion is stil legal your Republican/NeoCons are passing state laws preventing funding/increasing business fees/changing zoning that prevent organizations like Planned Parenthood from assisting individuals espeically women with basic medical and reproductive assistance.

So women's freedoms and rights are being attacked and attacked hard by the right. Also don't forget that the President get to pick who sits on the the SCOTUS. Very scary if Romeny is elected.

What legislation has been proposed that Mitt Romney favors, that will end abortion as we know it.

I think you need to re-educate yourself on how laws work and what would need to happen to ban abortions. But I still eagerly await your response with specific legislation.....

James,

Romeny has said many times he wants to get rid of Roe vs Wade. Here is one example:

“I would love the Supreme Court to say, ‘Let’s send this back to the states,’” he said. “Rather than having a federal mandate through Roe v. Wade, let the states again consider this issue state by state.”

“But I’m pro-life, that’s my view. I believe there is a sanctity of human life,” Romney added

That was very good! I happen to agree with you on your stance. But when liberals come here and say Romney is trying to pass legislation to get rid of abortion is wrong. First, he isnt in an elected position to do this and second they twist what he believes or they just speculate.

Personally, this article is a joke and is a way to get people away from talking about Obama and Lybia! Eventually this network will have to have in depth coverage of how this administration dropped the ball.

James, I never once said that Romney was trying to pass laws to ban abortion. Stop being so condescending. You sound just like Romney. We know Romney isn't an elected official, and with all things sacred, he will never get elected to anything. You apparently don't pay much attention to this issue, or what he has said he will do. He has said, if elected, he will do away with planned parenthood. That alone is bad enough. He wants to get abortion out of the federal level and give it to each state to decide. That is like giving a kid free reign in a candy store. There is no sense in arguing this with you. Thankfully there are less men who think as you do. This is a woman's issue, not yours. So, butt out!

Right now our laws supersede any others - so until we are invaded and our government destroyed I think we will continue on our current path.

Alaskagirl...

You are a silly liberal who couldn't back anything up! You should re-read your posts above. Let me guess Alaskagirl, you want the American taxpayers to pay for womens birthcontrol, right!?!?! Is that the war on women? Is that what you are so scared of? Then you speculated above on what Romney would do, when you have NO idea what he would do.

Alaskagirl...if you want to have an abortion once a month you can, no one is going to take that away from you. But like someone above stated the issue with all of this, there are American tax payers who dont want their money going to abortions. I don't have a problem with that. Do you?

It is sorta like the Big Bird talk, I dont have a beef with Big Bird, but Big Bird doesnt need tax payer money to make it. If you enjoy planned parenthood that is great. But if you want to go to planned parenthood for an abortion then no tax money should go there. Wouldnt be easier if Planned parenthood said we no longer will provde abortions, but will refer to JoeBlows fast abortions clinic where they receive NO federal money at ALL. Then the good things that come from Planned Parenthood can continue without any arguements from anyone saying they perform abortions. You could give ALL the money you want, to JoeBlows fast abortions clinic and feel good about that.

But even you know Obama got his asz handed to him at the debate the other night and this article is a JOKE trying to avoid the real conversation with Lybia.

I bet you and I agree with more than you think!

Plus any laws on abortion that might make it through Congress he would certainly sign into law. As for scaring women - Romney and Ryan are doing that all on their own. I just stating the facts - but then don't let that get in your way - since your leaders don't.

You know what James, I don't like my tax dollars going to pay for a war that was lied about to get us into it, but you know what, I pay my taxes. I don't like that my taxes pay for the public education of extreme right wing's offspring, but you know what, I pay my taxes. We don't get to individually pick and choose where our tax dollars go. If you want to have a conversation with me then you had better stop with your condescending tone and writing me off as a silly liberal. I have not called you a right wing a$$hole, although the temptation is there, but, you are showing your ignorance by labeling me as a "silly liberal". So, when you think that you can have an adult conversation, get back to me. And, hey, try looking at the article listings on here, there is an article on Libya. And, if you don't like this website and you don't find it to be fair and balanced, or that they are withholding information about Libya, then go and find another goddamned website that will tell you what you want to hear. Peace.

Oh, and Romney, doesn't have to say whether or not that he is in support of any legislation. He has made it painfully clear where he sits on many issues. Of course, he does change his stance from day to day, and that my friend is why I could never support him. He is not consistent. Peace(Again).

I'll take that challenge.

Romney writing in The National Review, June 18, 2011:

"I will advocate for and support a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion."

He clearly states that he will push for abortion legislation then. Now he has flip-flopped again in attempt to attract women voters...

Preceding Romney's run for governor of Massachusetts, he and Ann were photographed at a Planned Parenthood fundraising event chatting with then MA PP president Nikkie Nicholas Gamble. They frequently stated their support noting that it originated with George and Lenore Romney's commitment to PP; as a dear cousin of Lenore's had died horribly from an illegal (all abs were illegal then) botched abortion.

Once situated in the Corner Office of the State House, MR started turning right particularly during his frequent junkets out of state where he held pity parties about how hard it was to be Governator in such a deep blue state. On these jaunts he began trashing PP and pretty much washed his hands of RomneyCare, which really works quite well.

This past Spring when his nomination was as good as settled, his spokecreature Eric Fernstrom made the "Etch A Sketch" statement about how Romney's policies would shift to whatever suited the occasion. This statement has proven remarkably accurate.

The lovely Ann should watch her back very carefully, if needs be Mitt will denounce the mother of his 5 sons, grandmother of their 18 grandbabies as The Whore of Babylon. Being a Stepford Wife is risky business.

Just amazing. The real issues are the economy and foreign affairs but the Obama campaign will find anything and everything to try and deflect the conversation from the real issues impacting America and its future.

23 million Americans are unemployed. Millions have lost their homes. The average salary has dropped by $5400 since 2008. College grads have a 50/50 chance of finding a job. The middle class has lost 38% of its wealth.

Hey lets talk about the important issues, Big Bird and Abortion.

David you might have a different position if you had a uterus.....that said...womens rights ARE an important issue particularly when you are trying to take them AWAY....and the 38% of wealth comment has nothing to do with OBAMA positions...it has to do with outsourcing jobs overseas where labor is 85% cheaper....and women work and work and work for 50 cents an hour....which is why BAIN Capital and 1% shareholders in companies move jobs overseas.....I was one of the middle class who lost my job under BUSH and I have it back now...still digging out...some are not as fortunate...perhaps we should focus on why jobs are moving to Mexico and China.....cheap labor ad zero environmental reg and of course the huge tax benefit of foreign investment....course you can't drink the water in Mexico and you can't breathe the air in China without a mask on your face but hey....your choice...and Mitt seems to completely forgotten why he and his cronies move jobs overseas....government loopholes that allow TRILLIONS of profits to go untaxed.....even I know that and I don't have 25 years experience....tax cuts don't lead to jobs...what incentive do I as am employer have to hire more people when I am getting along fine with the employees I have? Simply because I have more cash? Corporations are sitting on millions of cash reserves and yet they are not hiring....why? You need a solid middle class to drive demand...and you need new markets but Europe is feeling the pinch as is India and China because America is still the driver for much of the world demand..we simply can't afford to consume...so when shareholders put profits ahead of American labor...well either get used to making less or expatriate...

Where in the US Constitution is abortion a Right?

On the other hand free speech is a Right guaranteed in the US Constitution. Is there limits to free speech?

The Second Amendment to the U.S. constitution guarantees me the Right to Bare arms. Does the Right to bare arms have limits?

Why do I have to fill out and pay for a Federal Background check and fill out form 4473 every time I buy a weapon and exercise my Constitutional rights? Why is it that States can decide what size of magazines I can have for my weapons, what kinds of functions the weapon has to have such as loaded chamber indicators, whether it can be selective fire, or have a removable magazine, or even deny me the right to have arms in my own home?

If a woman has been pregnant for 4 months don't you think that is enough time to decide whether or not they want to kill their baby?

The Left seems to think its OK to Regulate Rights which we are guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution so why shouldn't they be able to regulate and set reasonable requirements on Abortion which isn't even a right?

How about if a Woman goes to get an abortion she has to fill out a federal Form and register her Uterus? That way the federal government can keep track of her Uterus and if she appears to be using Abortion as Birth Control because she isn't responsible enough to prevent unwanted pregnancies she gets denied Abortions? We can keep track of who is paying for those abortions, etc. and if it turns out she keeps running to Planned Parent hood to get abortions then maybe she needs some counseling or other measures.

      Yah David Noah -

Lets talk about the big issues - How about the right preventing jobs bill from ever being voted on in Congresss??? Who about the right passing abortion laws in every state instead of trying to create jobs???? How about the Trillions of dollars borrowed and spent by the previous adminstration on two wars that created our economic mess??? You don't see President Bush out stumping for Romeny do you??? I wonder why????

As for foreign policy - do your really want to go their seeing how ever President since Carter has had to deal with Terrorist?? Regean (Marine Barrack 241 killed) Clinton (USS Cole 17 killed) Bush(9.11 3,000 killed) Obama (Libya 4 killed). You would have many answers to your questions if you would just watch and listen to something other than liberal media sources.

Take a walk on the wild side and educate yourself on what it means to be a "Constitutional Republic" and how Capitalism is the only system that has EVER lifted the poor.

And before you bash a company (Bain Capital), do some research on those that invest in it.

You might be surprised how things become much clearer.

(we'll definitely wind up in a soup line somewhere). obama brought the unemployment rate down but that will go away when he is no longer president and romney takes over.this is romney's outsourcing so he says.

“Governor Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life.”

Really Obama? Is that all you've got? Everyone knows that any change to current law has to go through the house, the senate for a vote. (Unless you're Obama and rule by Executive order) Regardless of the position Romney "supports" there may or may not be any change to current law. I would say probably not, since there are so many other huge issues to deal with such as the economy, the debt, jobs, etc.

Just a smokescreen to draw attention away from the Senate hearings being held today to find out why Obama lied to the American people about the Terrorist attack at the Embassy. The State Department is now saying they never said the attack was the result of the video. What a joke. When we have Hillary and Rice on tape saying exactly that.

Why all this useless discussion? It's typical Romney!Romney was for abortion rights before he was against them and now is for them but by tomorrow will be against them. Get it! It's so simple even a flip flopper would understand. His own campaign immediately walked back his remarks acting as if they understood what he said.

Romney has pledged to work to overturn Roe v Wade and to end stem cell reseaqrch. His running mate is trying to pass personhood where as soon as an egg is fertilized it's a person and they are against birth control. They want a smaller government but they want government to control a womans choice on birth and contraception. LADIES BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, repug's are for fertiflized egg = personhood, baby out of womb = moocher, but hey, in the magic land of republicans, women should be able to wish things away...

                      Trillian

Once an egg is fertilized, it has a complete blueprint for another human being including instructions on how to organize and build the entire body.

The only things that can stop it is

Cannot attach to the womb - naturally occurs, but mostly occurs when we artificially alter the womb with natural and unnatural hormones so it cannot occur.

Fails to develope normally and dies

Or is removed whether the body rejects it for natural reasons, or is induced to leave by chemically altering the womb, medical procedure or is tramatized by violence.

The point is, it was alive before conception, but at conception it becomes a new life.

Seeing it any other way is simply a person wanting things in their own way to justify getting their own way.

                        #13.3 - Wed Oct 10, 2012 1:59 PM EDT

yes it has a blueprint, but outside the womb it would not survive on its own until full term

I was in the hospital the last month of my pregnancy...because the pregnancy was high risk and I could have lost my baby at any moment and she still was preemie...

also, i had a friend who found out she was pregnant but the baby was dead when they went to hear the heart beat, she was so grief stricken. But inconsolable about the remains within in her (which the doctor said that her body would reabsorb) so she got the abortion procedure done...

                        so experience says another thing...

And nothing from the press. Same with fast and furious. Just back to this crap.

If Romney were elected he would have the chance to unbalance the Supreme Court and it would then be a clearly Republican Supreme Court. That is all that would be needed in order for Roe V Wade to go back up to the Supreme Court. Does anyone really want to take the chance of that happening?! If Republicans were able to get Roe V Wade repealed, who knows what else they would do. Think about that.

The "talking point" as you put it has NEVER gone away. The Republicans have been trying for three decades to make a woman's right to choose illegal. They most recently, since extreme wing nuts got into the house and senate in 2010, have come out with both barrels in the fight against a woman's right to choose. This WILL NOT happen!

I think Obama has given the American people too much credit for intelligience. Romney, in a roundabout way, hit it right when he gave his comment about his sons saying something so many times that it doesnt make it true...BUT, the problem is that Romney is the one who is saying something so many times but it doesnt make it true. And, like those 5 and 6 year olds out there, if you tell the American people something enough, they'll start to believe it. I hold absolutely NO faith in the intelligience of the average American. By and large, Americans are fairly ignorant, and so they listen to Romneys fluff and don't follow up with any research and just buy the pretty words he spouts out.

Of course this is what Romney wants anyway. I mean, Ryans "budget" calls for teacher loss. Republicans WANT an uneducated mass of people they can control and pay minimum wage or less to as a workforce. They want to build that 7th grade education mentality so we can have a new "china" type workforce in our country. It makes good business sense to have a the lowest educated work force who don't know any different and who will be wiling to make that "good money" of $7.00 and $8.00 an hour to do a job.

Don't believe Americans are stupid? How many times do you see things posted on forums or even on facebook pages as "fact" when they are urban myth. I think most of this country is fairly deficient in the math department as well and maybe thats why they're buying Romneys crap about how he's going to give everyone a 20 percent tax cut and raise military spending to the tune of a trillion dollars all while balancing the budget. Thats akin to me taking a pay cut, barely scraping by as it is and then going out and buying a new car, a new house and going on vacation. The numbers simply don't add up. What proof do I have of this ignorance of math? In my job I see on a daily and I mean DAILY basis people bitching because they paid $200 a year for a portion of a health policy that they get a whopping $100 return on in benefits. Now I'm not sure which school people went to, but spending 200 dollars to get 100 back is NOT a good return on money. And yet, I get calls like this daily. Yea, I definatley stand by my statement that Obama gave Americans far too much credit for intelligience.

And just to emphasis your comment Marine70, there is an alarming number of registered Republican voters who believe we DID find WMDs in Iraq! Like others have stated previously, the constant barrage of lies being circulated in emails and such are just accepted as "truth". No critical checking is ever done on any of it. If it matches what they heard on Fox "News" or from Beck, Limbaugh, Levine, Hannity, etc., it becomes "fact" to them...

I've tried to be patient and point out just a few of them to people and they just "pray" for me... they feel sorry for me, because I'm so "blind" to what is going on. Some of the lies are matters of public record and easily verified as untrue and when I have challenged them on any of these... they only answer with deflections to other lies or dismissals because I'm obviously so blind/ignorant/whatever...

The terrifying aspect of all of this is that I KNOW these people... They are basically very honest, patriotic and good people and many times are also very bright and educated, so you can't just dismiss them as uneducated fools. It is going on at a massive level. I have no illusion that President Obama or all Democrats have all the answers or are without their own sets of faults... But honestly it appears that the current Romney/Ryan campaign is based almost ENTIRELY on lies and distortions. I'm astonished that this level of dishonesty can be perpetrated on an American population that has historically been pretty skeptical of information unless they could verify it... and yet here we stand...

A very significant part of our American citizens are being deceived on a massive scale. Please don't bother to tell me "Yes, but it is President Obama and Democrats who are doing the deceiving"...

How many of you "conservatives" out there believe the National Day of Prayer was cancelled by President Obama? How many of you believe Congress is exempt from provisions of the PPACA? How many of you believe the White House now calls their Christmas tree, a "Holiday" tree...??? This is just pure nonsense and easily exposed as outright lies. You could argue it is of minor significance... but if you look at the emails that contain these lies, it is amazing at how the message is "packaged" to create outrage in the reader, implying that their personal liberty, their right to worship as Christians, their right to support our troops and on and on are under direct assault by a secret Muslim Kenyan living in the White House that we HAVE to remove to have any chance to survive as a nation. All of it of course based on complete and hateful lies!!! They chant over and over how "divisive" the President is... when it is this constant barrage of lies and their "charade of outrage" that is causing the division.

But alas... I waste more of my time I guess as none of the people believing in any of these lies will actually have the patriotic sense of duty to actually check out even a single one of them... I'm truly concerned but I don't know how to get people to use their minds in a constructive manner.

i think the main reason Obama did horribly is the debate is that he was blindsided with Robme lying, the first big one was when Obama called him out on the 5 tril tax cut & he turns around & says i never said that...wtf...you've been running around the country saying that for a year, now that's not what you're going to do?? The list goes on & on. Newt Gingrich even said you can't debate a liar.

i just don't understand how people can vote for him, he has no clue & he's not trustworthy, he was a horrible gov & would be a worse pres than Bush. why would people want to go back to Bush policies which is the only thing concrete he had said & hasn't flipped flopped on. now he wants to start a war w/Iran. do we need another war?

Please Robme lovers, what is he going to do to make things better, i want facts not GOP Rhetoric. it's funny how everyone thought the ecomony would be fixed on Jan 21, 2008. Obama got back the jobs that were lost in 08-09 & added some.

His recorded statements when Governor are absolutely and unequivocally pro-choice. And now, flat-out NO NO NO.

He's a flat-out liar. So what else is new? The 5 trill that went zero? The 47, now 147?

Attention NBC; let's do a story on the coverup of the Libya debacle. Show some balz. Obama won't mind.

You mean like the front page headline article about the hearings that you can't miss on the main page?

Or is your head so far up your you-know-what that you can't see it?

How can you trust this liar not to voucherize Medicare, privatize Social Security, devastate Pell grants, and decimate infrastructure spending (essential as a platform for growth) if given the chance--all to raise corporate welfare to military contractors-contributors and cut taxes for the chosen few at the Club.
