The Republican presidential nominee talks with NBC's David Gregory about his policy positions and his standing in the 2012 race.
Mitt Romney argued Sunday that voters should have enough of a sense of his principles to have confidence in how he'd handle the nitty-gritty details of taxes, spending and health care as president.
The Republican presidential nominee, appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," argued his plan to cut taxes squares with his vow to achieve a balanced budget by the end of a second hypothetical term, even though achieving those two goals would seem difficult, if not incongruent.
"My tax policy is designed to find a way to encourage more hiring in this country. I'm very concerned that we have 23 million people that are out of work or stopped looking for work or under-employed," Romney told moderator David Gregory. "So everything I want to do with regards to taxation follows simple principles, which is bring our rates down to encourage growth, keep revenue up by limiting deductions and exemptions and make sure we don't put any bigger burden on middle income people. In fact, I want to lower the burden on middle income people."
But Romney has been dogged by criticism that his plan lacks specifics, thereby making it difficult to conceive of how he would be able to reasonably achieve his agenda.
Romney's tax plan calls for making a 20 percent, across-the-board cut to marginal tax rates while keeping most existing taxes on investment the same (and cutting investment taxes altogether for households earning less than $200,000.) The former Massachusetts governor has argued that if "we limit or eliminate some of the loopholes and deductions at the high end," he could maintain current levels of tax revenue while also stimulating growth.
In an preview of Sunday's exclusive interview with Mitt Romney, the Governor tells David Gregory GOP lawmakers made a "big mistake" in signing off on the deal, which prevented a U.S. default on its borrowing obligations.

But, pressed for specifics, Romney resisted, and said his "principles" make up the details of his policy.
"The specifics are these, which is those principles I described are the heart of my policy," he said. "And I've indicated as well that — contrary to what the Democrats are saying — I'm not going to increase the tax burden on middle income families. It would absolutely be wrong to do that."
The opacity of some of Romney's proposals has invited plenty of scrutiny from Democrats, including President Barack Obama, who seized upon Romney's tax proposals in his convention speech on Thursday.
"When Gov. Romney and his friends in Congress tell us we can somehow lower our deficits by spending trillions more on new tax breaks for the wealthy, well — what'd Bill Clinton call it? You do the arithmetic. You do the math," the president said in Charlotte.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney talks briefly with reporters after stopping to buy two pizzas at Lui-Lui restaurant in West Lebanon, New Hampshire September 5, 2012.
Romney shot back Sunday: "I want to make sure people understand, despite what the Democrats said at their convention, I am not reducing taxes on high income taxpayers."
Speaking of those conventions, Romney said he has emerged in a "better spot" for his campaign by spending a week better familiarizing voters with his personality and record. And the GOP nominee pounced on Friday's anemic jobs report as further evidence as to why voters should back him.
"It is a jobless recovery, if it's a recovery at all," Romney said of the pace of the recovery. "If President Obama is re-elected you're not going to see our unemployment picture change dramatically. You're not going to see us create the jobs we need to create or the rising incomes people need."
In a preview of his exclusive Meet the Press interview with David Gregory, Mitt Romney reacts to Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention.
The economy joins the issues of taxes and spending as top problems a President Romney would be forced to confront almost immediately upon taking office. Current tax rates will automatically spring upward at the beginning of 2013 absent another extension of the so-called "Bush tax cuts," or some other kind of substitute comprehensive tax reform. And a series of automatic spending cuts stipulated by the 2011 debt ceiling deal will take place in January unless Congress makes steps to undo them.
Those looming issues are linked in large part to partisan discord in Congress, a phenomenon that might not be broken with this year's elections. Internal divisions within the GOP, pitting conservatives who have pushed for deeper cuts against their party's leadership, have additionally complicated dealmaking on Capitol Hill.
As president, Romney said he would seek out compromise, but not in such a way that it would contravene his principles.
"There's nothing wrong with the term compromise, but there is something very wrong with the term abandoning one's principles," he said. "And I'm going to stand by my principles. And those are I am not going to raise taxes on the American people."
A senior Republican analyst says the GOP has seen how difficult it is to take out an incumbent president who is personally popular. CNBC's John Harwood has more.
Those governing principles extend to health care, a hot-button issue this election which Romney has vowed to tackle if elected.
The GOP nominee has vowed, for instance, to repeal Obama's signature health care law and replace it with his own series of reforms. But that doesn't mean that some of the more popular elements of "Obamacare" would necessarily go away, Romney said.
"I'm not getting rid of all of health care reform. Of course there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I'm going to put in place," said Romney. "One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like. I also want individuals to be able to buy insurance, health insurance, on their own as opposed to only being able to get it on a tax advantage basis through their company."
Romney also spoke to the issue of foreign policy, a topic on which he scarcely touched at his convention speech in Tampa. Romney said that Obama has "had some successes and he's had some failure," an example of the latter being the president's handling of Iran.
"President Obama had a policy of engagement with Ahmadinejad. That policy has not worked and we're closer to a nuclear weapon as a result of that," he said.
Romney said he would handle it differently by more aggressively pursuing diplomacy and sanctions, while also maintaining a military option.
"We need to use every resource we have to dissuade them from their nuclear path. But that doesn't mean that we would take off the table our military option. That's something which certainly every American would hope we would never have to use," Romney said. "But we have to maintain it on the table or Iran will, undoubtedly, continue their treacherous course."

As far as I can tell, Mitt Romney has one principle: whatever decision makes the most money for Mitt Romney is the right decision. I honestly believe that he would govern in accordance with that singular prime directive.
Taxes? Cut them for Mitt Romney and people like him, but go ahead and raise them for everyone else.
Spending? Stop wasting money on social services so there's more available to give Mitt Romney tax cuts.
Health Care? Nobody should have it if Mitt Romney has to help pay for it.
Nathan-1680585
That's wierd....As far as *I* can tell, Barry Obummer has one principle: whatever decision can erode American values & make her a third-world entity is the right decision for Barry.
Romney has no principals. He states what he feels is politically expedient, and that never makes for an honest conversation. If republicans were to magically support the healthcare law tomorrow, Romney would be right there to reverse his "principles" once again.
So the main guiding principle for the Romney campaign seems to be "We aren't going to allow this campaign to be run by 'fact checkers'."
In a nutshell "We will never allow facts to stand before us"
You be the Judge!
Mitt Romney, known Liar, admitted Tax-Cheat, probable Felon who only avoided those Felony Charges by dishonorably "Retiring RetroActively" from Bain Capital, when Legal paper showed he was still the CEO of Bain Capital and drawing Millions of dollars in Salary
or the honorable Barack Obama, the Good, the Kind, the Merciful?
It's Not even a Contest.
Who wants somebody who Stoled, (yes! stoled!) Millions of Dollars in your Pension Funds from you hard-working Middle Class folks, and then Laundried your Money in his phony Cayman Island shell companies, so he could squirrel it away in his hidden Swiss Bank accounts? Mitt Romney, that's who!
Vote a straight Democratic ticket
Just so amazing. "Vote for me, but I am not going to tell you what I would do. You can guess, by my "principles" which are that I am a liberal when I think that is what you want to hear, I am a neocon when I think that will work. In short, the only principle I have is what benefits me and mine."
I can't believe that anyone would vote for Mitt just based on his inability to tell the truth. He is a disaster in the making.
What he will do is what his Corporate Masters dictate. He and Queen Ann want to pose on the balcony, he will sign whatever Norquist and the Koch brothers want him to sign.
Same old same old from this candidate, go back to the policies that got us into this mess. With the addition of war with Iran.
Vote a straight Democratic ticket for the sake of your family and the nation.
Time to get the "teabaggers" out of office, and allow the country to solve the problems.
Willard and his wife wouldn't recognize a "principle" if one slapped them in their smug faces!
People like them, who feel it's "Their Turn" only have a win at any cost attitude!
We want answers not "tag-lines"!
Your buddies, the Republican House Leaders are the ones insuring the erosion of America and her values. Hurting millions of Americans all for their act of hatred towards a President that has done nothing but move America forward from the second largest economic disaster our country has seen.....which was caused by the same policies Republicans used then and want to use now. Lying to yourself helps America how??
Romney's right. We do know enough about his principles to know how he would act as president - which is why it is essential that we never allow him the chance.
One of the more serious principles he's demonstrating right now is that he refuses to tell us exactly what it is he plans to do until after the election.
Romney was rated the "Worst Massachusetts Governor of All Time".
Romney just says "see me after the elections". No thanks, Romney.
Details are important. That "content-free" convention of yours was laughable.
And while we're at it, how about those 8 years of tax returns you've been hiding?
Just what are you afraid of?
Why all the secrecy about your tax returns and your plans for exactly how you'd fix the problems from the GOP economic crash?
.
"And I mean it!" (wink, wink)
Romney said he would balance the budget by the end of a second term
"Doing it in the first term would cause, I believe, a dramatic impact on the economy," Romney said. "Too dramatic and therefore the steps I've put in place and we've put together a plan that lays out how we get to a balanced budget within eight to 10 years."
http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2012/09/mitt-math-does-add-up-134941.html?hp=l1
IMO: Even his running mate knows better as is evidenced in all of his budget plans over the last 3 years. Cutting that deep, that quick will result in job losses which, in turn, will result in revenue (tax) losses. Ryan's plan takes 28 years to get to a balanced budget and perhaps it can be done sooner, maybe 18 years – not 8.
What Romney doesn't account for is the historical fact that about every 10 years or less we encounter a recession. This is why Ryan's budget is more practicable with the main problem I have with his revenue plan it that it counts on unemployment falling to 3% which our country hasn't seen a sustained rate at that level in over 50 years and is well below all industrialized countries.
Romney = PATHOLOGICAL LIAR !!
Ryan = PATHOLOGICAL LIAR !!
The fact checkers are having a field day proving how false all their statements are.
.
That MUST mean you are OUTRAGED at Obummer's "tagline"
"bin Laden is dead & GM is alive!" - Two items?!? That's it?!?! After 3 1/2 years Obummer comes to the table with THAT?!?.....lmao
Let's face it, my grandmother wouldn't have botched the phone call to assinate bin Laden....gimme a break...thank you SEALS!
#2 - if Obummer had to tell the truth about he raped the bondholders and "selected" dealerships and propped up the UAW, GM would NOT be on his bumper sticker!
PS......still waiting for a liberal answer to the following ....*CRICKETS**YAWN*
Why is your messiah not crushing his opponent in the polls by 10 points less than 60 days from the election?
Is he playing the Ali 'ol rope-a-dope? Is he a late bloomer in the races like Phelps was? The come-from-behind kid? LMAO
Another Q for all of the "I want free checks from you" crowd..........
If Obummer is the greatest thing since sliced bread, why does he need to constantly have his record live vicariously through the record of Bill "I Heart Cigars & Chicks Vagina's" Clinton??? Why isn't he bragging about HIS record?
I realize it may come up short with the whole GM - bin Laden thangy.....but c'mon man!
What sheep!
Right on Nathan. The mutt's main principle is for him to not pay ANY taxes! If the tax dodger gets in everybody better watch out. He always says how much he loves this country yet he doesn't believe in paying his fair share and hiding his money in foreign countries. Now isn't that patriotic! He's an idiot and a coward.
Isn’t it Amazing, you always hear the Republicans and TeaBilly Politicians Threatening to Reduce or Stop Payment on Unemployment, Social Security, Medicare, Food Stamps, Military Pay, Student Loans, Benefits , Etc. But have you ever heard of them Threatening to Reduce or Stop any of Their Pay, Healthcare and all the other Special Perks they receive (Paid for by our Tax $$$$$$$).
Lets break this down in simple terms. Republican TeaBilly Conservative = Self Righteous Hypocrite.
The guiding principles I've seen are be vague & avoidant, offer grandiose plans and promises without any details, and attack while playing the victim.
Well, in a way that does give me sense of how he will govern. I just have no idea on what he plans to do.
I think what we have here Michael, is a fine example of "word salad." You have made lots of statements without any sign of logic or intelligence. You are a waste of everyone's time.
Mit Romney's principles are written on an Etch-A-Sketch. He shakes that up about once a week. All you need to do is understand the history of his attitudes toward legal abortion to understand what an unprincipled coward this guy is.
Unfortunately, those "principles" are the same ones he used as a young man when his high school cronies held a young man down while Mitt butchered his hair. They are the same "principles" Mitt used as a vulture capitalist when he and his Bain cronies took over companies and butchered the companies' loyal employees by off-shoring their jobs and stealing the employees' pension funds. They are the same "principles" that Mitt has used to hide his tax returns, lie about "we built that", lie about "gutting the welfare reforms" and butchering the truth in general. Mitt's "principles" have been on display for the last 40 years for the whole world to see, and I really don't want Mitt's "principles" butchering my country and neither should any reasonable American.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
Ah yes, the old less will magically turn into more policy, subtraction will turn into addition, cut your revenue to increase your revenue, reduce income to pay your debt. Republicans are in sad shape, third grade math, tells you it never works, amazingly enough we gave this crap plenty of years to see if it might magically work, and all we get is more national debt, go figure. No republican has any right to try to continue to pretend they give a damn about the debt, if they buy into this damn silly nonsense.
For someone who supposedly has a plan(s), Willard is completely unable to answer a single question!
Wouldn't being less than 60 out from the election, be a good time for him to start explaining how he will achieve all of his lofty rhetoric?
Is he talking about principles of "corporate raiding," destroying lives/companies, and lively hoods, of Americans he claims to love and wants to help, just to make sure his rich buddies become super-rich buddies?
I keep telling you'll, these people are hypocrites!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
Michael1969
The question you need to ask according to your reasoning is why is Romney not crushing Obama by 10 poits and why is he slipping. Your side has been running around chanting that even a rock could beat Obama. I guess you did not take into account that what you got was something that slithered out from under that rock.
Romney wants two terms to bring the debt under control?? Sorry, I'll trust the guy who brought the economic crash to a halt and started a slow but steady upturn to continue the job in his second term. Obama/Biden 2012
I am terribly sorry that you're a lil bit slow there Wayne......I'll type slower for folks like you so you play too!
You must be beaming with pride at your attempt to answer my questions, my lil libtard friend!....Good job! We'll move on to a more educated bunch!
Romney then elaborated, "See, we high income taxpayers and corporations have access to a lot of accounting tricks, tax benefits, and loopholes that most Americans don't, and these already allow us to pay extremely low tax rates. There's really no way to reduce that load any further, since it's already so miniscule. The problem, as I explain in my 59 point economic plan, is that it costs us a lot of money hiring accountants, tax specialists, and lawyers to get those ridiculously low rates. I know, because I used to be in charge with finding tax shelters and coming up with tax avoidance schemes for Marriott, and I'm not cheap to hire. What I want to do is reduce rates so much that we can pay next to nothing in taxes without having to spend on all this trickery. We'll still pay the same next to nothing in taxes, but we'll profit from all the tax related savings. It's all laid out in my 59 point plan."
--Note, Mitt didn't actually say that, but if you do read his 59 point plan, it's all right there. He's counting on people not actually reading his plan, though, and just saying, "Wow, 59 points? That sounds like a lot, so I'll just trust him on it. He must know what he's doing if he can come up with 59 ideas for the economy."
Really? What has Iran done except stated that it would attack back - if it were attacked by Israel? Romney thinks this war of words between Israel +Us and Iran has escalated to a near NUCLEAR WAR?
Does Romney even know that the International Atomic Energy Agency EXISTS - and it's been in Iran more than several times this year? Does he not read that Iran DOES NOT have a Nuclear weapon, according to the IAEA? So who will be throwing the nukes around? - the US and Israel? Fabulous, he's dumb enough to start WWIII.
Thanks for reminding me about that UnitedStates1776 - I lived just over the border in NH (couldn't afford anything in Mass.) - People forget the Big Dig - which ran millions over budget, ran months - if not a year over schedule....and for what? To get to Logan faster. The first week it opened, a massive concrete panel fell onto a car - the young woman was killed instantly.
I also remember "Mitt" trying to explain that he had "duel state residence".... In order to be governor of a state you must reside there, but Mitt also wanted to be on the Olympic committee for in Utah - you must be a resident of Utah for that. On Mitt's tax returns he listed his Utah house as a "vacation house," yet for the Olympic Committee it was his place of residence - while being the governor of MASSACHUSETTS? Can he EVER tell the truth?
I apologize for being so blunt blackcatwhitecat, but I couldn't give a sh!t-less what you think! You're not a member of this country and therefore your opinion is completely useless to an American!
If you want to appease someone, bark up Obummer's leg....he's all for being an American Apologist, I'm not!
Listening to that entire sh!t-show on MTP this morning, I have come up with a plan of my own!
During the debates, every time I hear "I have a plan", "We have a plan" out of Willard's lying mouth, I will be donating $1.00 to President Obama's re-election campaign!
Who wants to join in on the fun?
Oh MY GOD! I finally have a reason to agree with Romney! He's right! I can look to his principles (or lack of same) for a sense of how he would govern! It's true!
He is soooo "principled" that he slyly had his "fee" converted to stock so he could pay capital gains instead of standard rates like the rest of us.
And to prove just how principled he believes he is, he's NOT going to show us his tax returns... on principle.
His superior "principles" drove him to fashion his whole convention around the obvious misquote he took from Obama... a "we're in this all together" speech that Romney manipulated into a "you didn't build that" call to arms!
A principled "birther"?
The principled "student of change" that just happen to change EVERY view he used to have to line up PERFECTLY with the Tea Party's views... unreal!
His "principles" just bring you tears, don't they?
Michael 1969
bin Laden is dead & GM is alive. These are some damned big accomplishments and you really show a lack of understanding by trivializing them. Maybe your Grandma wouldn't mess up the order to get Bin Laden, but Bush did when he knew he was at Tora Bora. Obama took a ton of risks by making that order. It was an incursion by U.S. troops into Afganistan, there was a lot that could go wrong with the raid as evidenced by the downed helicopter. And, there was always a chance he wasn't there.
Bravo Mr. President. You will go down as one of the greats. Right wing pundits don't get to write your legacy.
Michael1969
You don't give a @!$%# about anyone's opinion unless it is some phoney god oriented right wing mememe crap.
Other than that put me on ignore or suck on it. Welcome to the international world of the internet.
LMAO....gimme a break alien.....I do not put people on ignore nor do I collapse posts.....those tactics are for cowards!
I merely stated your opinion does not matter when it comes to American politics because you are not even an American Citizen.....Correct??!!??!
Tell me I'm wrong
So wait a minute. Romney says he needs 8 to 10 years to fix the problem but he wants us to vote out President Obama because he hasn't done it in 4!? So he admits it can't be done in 4, so plan on giving him 8 up front. How hypocritical is that? Here's a tip Mitt - nobody can fix it in 4 years and things are now moving in the right direction whether you want to accept those facts or not.
Give us the specifics and show your tax returns. If you want to leave it up to the voters to "guess" what your principles are, then I'd say the majority of them are going to assume that your administration will favor the rich and hurt the poor and you will continue to ride herd on the middle class until it is ground out of existence. No thanks, Mitt. I am not voting for you based on your past records and based on whom you have aligned with as VP. That is not who we are as a country.
If Romney wants two terms to turn things around then why are republicans so impatient with president Obama. If Romney can't fix things in a single term when Obama has already done the heavy lifting and has things going in the right direction, he is admitting he would be an utter failure. That is the criteria republicans have been using, can't solve all problems in a single term, you are described as an utter failure, Romney is about a silly bastard politically by saying it would take him two terms, ha, he just predestined himself as an utter failure if he was to be elected. The republican party has gotten so damn silly that even if they had a good candidate they have left him no where to go, if you don't promote stupid you lose the base, and to keep the base you lose everybody else. I don't think this election will be as close as I thought, I think you will see Obama pulling ahead as people engage, and Romney and Ryan keep repeating the silly crap they have to say to please goofballs now known as the republican base.
I know you're not that forgetful - you don't really wanna go there do ya?!?
Lest you forget the 'ol "Wag The Dog" trick Bill "I Heart Cigars & Chicks Vagina's" Clinton pulled in the '90's when HE had a chance to nab bid Laden!
At least try to be intellectually honest!
You know you're in a world of hurt when even FoxNews starts demanding answers!
From ThinkProgress:
And even Fox News has apparently had it with the campaign’s consistent dodging of this question, as Fox’s Gregg Jarrett repeatedly asked Romney policy director Lanhee Chen about it during an interview on Friday:
The thing is, Mitt, principles are not specifics. Principles are broad and general. Specifics are, well, specific. This is where you should illustrate by giving a few examples. Calling your principles specifics does not them specifics. It does, however, make people wonder if you don't understand what you're saying, or if you think the people are just stupid and should go along with whatever you say.
Repubs obstruct job recovery for the last 3 1/2 years at every chance.
On 7-19-12 repubs blocked the bill to end tax breaks given to companies(like Romney's company Bain) that take American jobs offshore.
On 7-19-12 in the same bill repubs blocked giving tax breaks to companies that would bring American jobs back to America.
Romney then complains that jobs are not recovering fast enough.....What is wrong with this picture? Boehner can't reel in the out of control Teabaggers that held the country hostage and ruined the credit rating of the nation just to give more tax breaks for the rich.
Romney has no plans to help jobs recover, only plans to give himeslf and the rich more tax breaks and raising taxes on the middle class and poor.
Obama and Democrats stopped the crashing loss of jobs while repubs pledged to take the economy down to make President Obama a one term president.
Vote President Obama/Biden and Team Democratic party to continue a stronger recovery.
Michael1969
I'll tell you what, I will be quieter if you come up her and drag the Canadian chapter set up by the Tea Party back to it's homeland.
I'll be quieter when America starts to regulate its banks that almost brought down the economy of the entire world.
I'll be quieter when America stops being the world's police force.
I'll be quieter when America removes its armed officers from our airports.
I'll be quieter when America stops thinking that it has a manifest right to the world's resources. Iraq come to mind? It was about oil.
Feisty,
I remember someone else who had a "secret plan". The year was 1968 and Republican presidential candidate Richard Nixon had a "secret plan" to get us out of Vietnam. As it turned out, that secret plan was to stay in Vietnam an additional five years and have tens of thousands of young Americans give their lives before Nixon decided to (as Republicans so succinctly put it) "cut & run". We waited five years and lost thousands of brave young men and women before we found out the "secret plan" was for Nixon to get elected. It would be funny how history repeats itself if the consequences weren't so grave for the rest of us. I guess everyone remembers that infamous Nixon integrity and how his presidency ended. It seems evident to me that Mitt's "principles" mirror Nixon's as does his "secret plan". When a politician has a plan and won't share it with the voters then the voters shouldn't even consider wasting their votes on that candidate! Unlike Romney and Nixon, history doesn't lie.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
Wow Michael,
an "apology" and then even more insults and lies. Actually, your guy is slipping, and the president's approval ratings now lie at 51%. Romney will lose, because even though republicans have never believed in evolution, they surely believe in "survival of the fittest." They want to give the wealthy more tax cuts while cutting programs that people depend on to grow and even survive. To vote republican in this election is to slit your own throat. I can't fathom why republicans are so anxious to kill the middle class once and for all. If we are not there to buy their crap, they won't profit either. Sometimes I think they want to make us all into nothing more than middle age style serfs. We would be at their mercy with minimal education, low paying jobs, and no health care. We would be lucky to eat the crumbs from Romney's table. This is Romney's vision for our country.
Mitt said he would lower taxes on the middle class while keeping taxes for the rich the same by eliminating exemptions. Although he refused several times to name one exemption he would eliminate, he said revenues would remain the same. Apparently he believes it is just too complicated for us to understand.
Taxes for the rich = the same
Middle Class = less
--------------------------------
Equals less taxes
President Clinton was right, he fails at simple math.
I would have a better idea of what his principles are if he would release his tax returns. Hiding money in a Swiss bank account would not enhance my views of his principles.
It is better to refuse to release your tax returns and be thought a criminal than to release them and remove all doubt.
Mitt Romney: You have to elect him to find out what he's for.
AHEM.....tell me, which precinct are you going to be at when you pull the lever for Obummer?
Too bad ACORN's still not in business, they'd lend ya a hand in getting a vote down here!...LMAO
Michael1969,
I don't get your point, if there is one.
There is a big difference between ordering the hit in 1996 and 2001. In 1996, there was no evidence that Bin Laden was directly involved in any terrorist acts. That would have been nice. Order an assasination, in a foreign nation on a member with close ties to the Saudi Royal family with no evidence. Sounds almost as smart as starting a quagmire in Iraq when they had nothing to do with 911.
Michael says "At least try to be intellectually honest!"
Ha now that is funny coming from you, I would expect that you using either the word intellectually, or honest separately much less together would be enough to cause your pants to exhibit spontaneous combustion. Tee Hee "No Mas Pantalones" for you Michael.
If it was about oil, can you tell me why I'm not paying .50 a gallon? Idiot
This guy lies 85% of the time so I'm pretty sure he is lying right now, why should I gamble on what this clown says, Yes the turn around is not as fast as everyone wants but it is working so why should we all gamble on someone that was in the business of Bankrupting companies he bought, I'm not going to gamble come NOVEMBER, you all can gamble if you want I'm banking on the sure thing.
LMAO!! With THAT plan and a buck you can buy one of dem Obummer bumper stickers for your shopping cart and collect aluminum cans!
I had to laugh when Obama and the Democrats blasted Romney for saying that GM should be allowed to go bankrupt, and that Obama somehow prevented that from happening.
The TRUTH is that GM DID go bankrupt under Obama - using the same bankruptcy provisions that Romney suggested.
When the Democrats say "GM is alive", it's because Obama followed Romney's advice. What's really ridiculous is that the media doesn't call Obama on this obvious 'sleight of hand' - blasting Romney and ignoring the fact that Obama did exactly as Romney suggested.
You need to look beyond this petty stuff and compare Obama's background to Romney. Obama has no business experience. Obama had no foreign policy experience. What are Obama's principles "promiser in chief". Weve' had four years of this sorry dude for a President and it's time for someone else. What Romney said specifically is he will create American jobs. With American jobs more people pay income tax. With better middle class jobs there will be more income tax. The more income tax that gets generated the more revenue the government gets. More jobs more revenue...less debt ....reduced deficit. Remember a good economy reduces debt.
Republicans make me laugh. They defend Romney on principles yet he makes John Kerry look like the Rock of Gibraltar. Romney has flipped flopped on every issue he stands for. He was for women right to choose, health care for everyone, mandates, and stem cell research before he found out Republicans giving him money was not. He was against the bailout until he found out it worked then tried to take credit for it.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/may/18/politifacts-guide-mitt-romneys-flip-flops/
I guess what I'm saying is that Romney's principles has to approved by the Tea Party nuts first because his old ones doesn't meet their approval. As far as Romney's business experience...he took companies, borrrowed money on them, then bankrupted them for the profit. Is that what we want him to do to America? That's what G W Bush did and it is what got us in the trouble we're in now. Romney would just make this country worse with his Bush policies.
No, actually, there's a lot more than that, as you very well know. Do you live in America? Then you should be able to explain Obama's accomplishments. If you cannot, then you don't have a right to be heard. Sure, you have a right to speak, but not a right to be heard.
Romney wanted to let GM die. Obama managed a technical bankruptcy and kept the company alive.
Nice cherry picking Roy. Obama didn't criticize Romney because of the need to declare bankruptcy, he blasted him because Romney wanted to let them fail, to go into bankruptcy without any plan for solvency and no way to continue operations. Under Romney's plan, GM would have been scrapped and parted out like he does with all his other companies.
I come here every day and pull the lever symbolically.
Ask you oil companies. As Dick Chenney. Ask Halliburton Ask why they don't give a crap about you. Ask why Canada's oil was to be piped to tanker ships bound for China. Ask why your oil companies ship your oil over seas instead of selling it to you for .50. Ask the Europeans who are trying to re-establish their stocks.. It was not about giving you a cheaper price, it was about controlling a resource.
Romney finally said something I can agree with. Please do look to these candidates' principles.
Romney: I like to make money at the cost of others. I will govern so that people who already gave can get more. I outsourced jobs at my companies to make even more money. I closed companies to make more money -- laying people off. Who cares about the 99% of the country? If I'm doing well, all is well in my world.
What Romney doesn't get is that if you provide opportunities for MORE people to do well, they will have more cash at their disposal to spend and will, in turn, help others to do well.
By the way, even if Romney had decent principles it takes COMPETENCE to run a country. It takes understanding of foreign policy to run a country. It takes the ability to make the tough decisions that are in the best interest of the masses! Romney has none of these qualities.
President Obama is FOR THE PEOPLE. He has more understanding of basic economics and foreign policy in one fingernail than Romney has.
Romney's other principles? Mormons believe that when they die they get their own planet to populate and rule over.
You like Romney? Invite him over for coffee. He is NOT presidential material.
It's interesting that one of the prime recommendations of the Simpson-Bowles Debt Commission was to LOWER tax RATES across the board in order to stimulate job growth - they said that Federal revenues would actually increase because tax loopholes used by the rich would be closed. This is what the Republicans have been proposing as well, but instead of addressing this issue, Obama just uses it as an excuse to 'demonize' the Republicans - purely for partisan politics. Reagan and Clinton were able to accomplish a lot of good by working with the opposition in Congress. Obama seems unwilling to even try.
By the way - the Debt Commission recommendations would have passed the commission if only 4 members opposed them - unfortunately, 5 members opposed them - 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans. That extra Democrat in opposition killed the recommendations.
It's certifiable folks. The Pro-Romney bois are rich, rich, rich and they just don't like the idea of losing a single dime. As for Romney, he is totally out of touch with any but his own class. Then, righties blame class warfare on envy by the 99% ...when it's the 99% who pay the taxes holding this country together?
The pro-Romney bois have lived large and in the lap of luxury for so long their snobbish attitudes are anything but in touch with fellow Americans NOCD (Not Our Class Dahling). They think owning a fleet of luxury cars is a right and and entitlement. They believe putting another CEO in the White House like the last 2 boi geniuses will turn a government of the people, for the people, by the people into the first nationwide Corporation.
When Romney uses his CEO doublespeak, the word "govern" has a very different meaning...govern equals "control". This is what the rich SOBs in this country are all salivating.
Ask them why they blame Obama for this economy when Europe and China are all now in the same mess...Is that Obama's fault too?
Greedy men in this country believe laws are for the underdogs they take take take from...Well...they took it from us and now we'll take it right back.
After all, we are only doing what they spout like chattering chipmunks..."take our country back." Right exactly what we intend to do when, not if, Obama is re-elected.
You don't hire or create jobs? You don't get a dime of taxpayer subsidy. The Big Bois know this is what we plan and they are scared of having to finally make it on their own and be cut off from the federal trough they've fed from for too long.
Romney has lots and lots of principles, just name one and he has had it at some point.
He should have stayed off meet the press, this will drop him further in the polls. I hate to have to give her any credit, I can't stand her, but Ann Coulter had it right about Romney.
The Republican pollster is showing an 8 point swing to the President in the past week. From Romney 48% & Obama 44% to:
Spin it RNC/Koch brothers' trolls.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
Yeah, let's look at Romney's principles. He MOVES HIS MONEY OVERSEAS TO AVOID PAYING TAXES ON THEM IN THE UNITED STATES -- taxes desperately needed to run government and provide critical services. Great principles.
Why would bankrupting companies be considered good business, yet the Romney flock thinks that is great business experience, some one lost money when those companies went bankrupt, but Romney's pockets grew, now that's someone I sure as hell don't want leading our country.
@Michael1969 who stated this to blackcatwhitecat:
Actually, I think any person can comment on American politics since the US does a wonderful job of dictating what other countries can and cannot do.
blackcatwhitecat - has some good points, and a better perspective from not constantly being bombarded by America's state run propaganda media (propaganda for both the right and left).
Perhaps you should listen more Michael and not just rant at other people, it's not becoming.
ED-2874315 "Romney wanted to let GM die"
Here’s the truth: what Romney proposed for Detroit was more or less what Obama did.
Romney’s plan for GM and Chrysler, articulated in his November 2008op-ed headlined “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” rested on this argument: “A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs.”
Do you know what Obama did in the Detroit bailout he’s touting so much these days? A managed bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler.
That must explain why Obama took a country where the economy was about to go over the cliff and managed to stabilize it. Complete lack of business experience. The geniuses who engineered the crisis were the ones with tons of business experience.
Do we want someone with Governor Romney's vast foreign policy experience? Are you ready for a cold war with Britain, which is what we would get if he became President, and a hot war with Iran? Did you pay attention to what Mr Romney managed to accomplish during his trip abroad? I lost count of how many countries he managed to insult after a while, but perhaps his greatest prize was praising the socialist healthcare system that Israel has.
This is content-free insulting. You aren't saying anything other than expressing an opinion, but unfortunately for you, you don't really have any facts to explain why your opinion might be a reasonable one. I do not understand why you people are so upset when we start attributing racism to you. Surely you are smart enough to realize that content-free insulting such as this leads people to think that the only beef you can have with Obama is that he's half-black.
Absolutely. Millions upon millions. He has specifically said this. What he has omitted to explain is how, and beyond that, how his policies will create more jobs than Obama's policies.
He says he will reduce taxes and somehow that will magically create jobs. Unfortunately for him, both Bush and Obama lowered taxes, and that hasn't helped create jobs. Obama is doing the sane thing - when you try something and it has the opposite effect of what you want, you stop doing it.
Roy Wilson...Do you know how many of those who took taxpayer funded TARP in 2008 are 5 of the Biggest US banks who handed their CEOs tens of millions in the past 3 years? Starting to look like a bunch of financial schiesters...take from taxpayers to cover asses on stupid financial decisions.
As for Romney and GM...his old man attempted the same kind of hatchet job...There isn't enough profit in GM for Romney...and profit is all Romney cares about...not the people of this country, not the people paying all the taxes who get little or no appreciable tax cuts because they can't afford hotcha CPAs to manipulate the tax system for them...and definitely not the people who get raked over the coals by rich asses who price gouge to make obscene wealth.
How about time for you and your kind to stop the BS and man up?
Roy Wilson,
Wrong, Republicans are not proposing that as well. Republicans explicitly opposed the recommendation because of that, because they view it, in Mitt Romney's words, and Grover Norquist's spirit, as "an under-the-radar means of raising taxes."
As he says in his plan: "Where reforms that simplify the code or encourage growth have the effect of increasing the tax burden, they should be offset by reductions in marginal rates. Washington’s problem is not too little revenue, but rather too much spending."
Under a Republican/Romney tax plan, any increased revenue from closed loopholes must be offset by equal or greater reductions to marginal rates.
You'd seriously compare Clinton's not getting Bin Laden before 9/11 with Bush's after?. 9/11 clearly made him a much higher priority.
@ Roy Wilson
What Romney said was that he would not have given GM and Chrysler the money they needed to survive bankruptcy. GM would not have survived bankruptcy without the money they borrowed from the government. They would have been liquidated completely just like Pontiac and Saturn were.
Just like the Republicans to try to twist their errors into positives by spin (also know as lying). They criticize anything Obama does and if it works they try to take credit for it. They will not own up to their errors in the eight years that Bush was in office and actually have no creditability with real Independent voters and it's funny how they really believe that people are so stupid as to believe their BS.
Someone needs to tell Romney what principles are.
"I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose, and I am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard."
– Televised debate while running for Massachusetts Governor in 2002.
Black Kettle & Sand Creek...lest we forget
Thank you. That I criticize the GOP world and social view comes from my love for America and its possibilities. During the past 4 years America's standing in the world is vastly improved in many eyes. The current Republican Party would destroy what has been gained.
Oh yeah. We have a sense of your principles.
You belong to a WHACKADOO CULT that, only 4 Years Ago, was the Laughingstock Cult of the Republican Party. You believe in disappearing Golden Tablets. You truly believe in a god who you actually think is sitting up there, wringing his hands over everyone who isn't wearing Magic Underwear. You TRULE BELIEVE in crap like that, Mitt!
And your republican party -- it has NO VALUES. No consistent values from one term to the next. Last election, your cult was a JOKE to them. But now, since the rest of their choices were a bunch of lowlifes like Newt the Whore Monger, Bachman the Idiot, Trump the Birther, Sanitarium the Grand Wizard, and of course, Sarah the Alaska Dingbat still hovering in the wings...
...they had no choice but to flip a coin, and the WHACKADOO CULTIST became their National Hero.
Your principles? Your values? What does it matter to the right wing???
Nothing. Because they've shown us that THEIR VALUES can be auctioned of for a Dime... sold to the Magic Underwear Cult Whack-Job, because their other choices were even worse.
The Romney campaign has decided it won't be dictated by fact-checkers. But a society without trusted arbiters of what is true and what is false is vulnerable to every lie imaginable.
How does this:
"The former governor said this week, reiterating a position he’s articulated in the past, that only Americans who have had constant, uninterrupted insurance coverage should be guaranteed access to a health plan, regardless of any pre-existing conditions." (ABC News, June 2012)
Get to this:
"I'm not getting rid of all of health care reform. Of course there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I'm going to put in place," said Romney. "One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage."
in 3 months?
What does that even mean? A permanent PCIP-type situation, which would merely be highly-imperfect, federally-backed, high risk pools (PCIP is the temporary program for the interim until real support comes from the Affordable Care Act)? The PCIP program can cost so much you could end up losing your savings/home still. That's a best-case scenario, and I don’t think he’s saying that, based on his June message. What he’s probably saying is the same thing he said then, except without actually saying it, which is that he’s going to protect you as long as you have continuous coverage. Not a lot of good that does any of us who are not millionaires who could develop a pre-existing condition at any time (or already have one), and thereafter lose a job at any time.
Romney and his sheeple people...
Romney's famous speech rings so true when he said..."You can fool some of the people some of the time..........and these are the people I want to speak to!"
Obama/Biden 2012
If you can't describe what you are doing as a process, you don't know what you're doing. - W. Edwards Deming
Roy Wilson,
Romney opposed any loans to the auto industry (aka "the bailout"), without which, it is not likely they would have survived through a managed bankruptcy. There was not enough private investment capital at the time to sustain and restart GM and Chrysler without loans from the government. Then, after the fact, Romney criticized the administration's management of said bankruptcy, claiming "The president gave the companies to the UAW."
That claim is false, but these facts illustrate that what the Obama administration did with the auto industry was not what Romney would have done, or else that Romney is ignoring what he originally recommended so that he can instead criticize the administration, much as he does regularly on health care.
So, either the administration was highly successful in pursuing plans contrary to Romney's approach, or Romney is just a cynical hypocrite who can't reconcile his past positions with his present ones. Take your choice, I accept either as a valid conclusion.
@Roy Wilson
Can you explain how Mitt would have managed the GM bankruptcy without any money. You keep trying to convince people that Romney could have done it when there was no money. If you can't, how about giving up that ghost.
I think both candidates lack specifics. Thanks to the media we have been inundated with reports of Clint Eastwood's performance but things such as passing an amendment to limit special interest contributions and identify donors is hardly covered. I think the media could push the candidates to reveal specifics and to actually address issues. I hope someone does.
Let's talk about the primary function of a Leverage Buy Out (LBO) company. Specifically, let's talk about the business acumen of Romney with Bain.
An LBO puts up about 10-15 million of their own money. They then go to a financial institution and borrow another 50-200 million dollars in order to buy the stocks of a company they have targeted. They target companies with very little debt and good cash flows.
As soon as they buy a majority shares of stocks, the LBO will start replacing the board of directors with their own people. At this point, the 50-200 million dollar loan they took out to buy the company's stocks is reassigned to the company as the company's debt. (That's right. The company they just took over now has to pay for their own takeover).
Because of their clever manipulation of a company and its finances, the Board of Director's (mostly Bain guys) now pays themselves back their original 10-15 million dollars. Bain is now in control of a company and have not spent a dime of their own money at this point. Since they're in control, and they're so darn clever, they now "Award" themselves bonuses for being such great business leaders and they take another 10-200 million dollars from the company to pay themselves. They also pay the existing CEO and executives of the company they took over to "keep their mouths shut".
Now all the top executives of the company (both the original executives and the Bain executives) have their golden parachutes.
Bain usually exits at this point. They have their profit and they're done. The formerly debt-free company, now saddled with significant debt, is left to survive and thrive or wither and die. Staples managed to survive that little dance and survived. Romney will take credit for that. Other companies that didn't make it will die. Romney will tell you that he had nothing to do with that.
See how that works? Nice principals.
Can't wait to see how he'll apply this approach to our country.
So, that's what you want, huh Michael? That sound good to you. Romney is a business man. But, he neither produces or manufactures anything. He simply raids companies, saddles them with debt, and then leaves for the next conquest. Is that type of business acumen something we really want our President to have?
You accused us as being sheep, but dude... YOU are the world's BIGGEST SHEEP! You're just absolutely clueless. Why would anyone vote for a person who answers a question like: What are your plans with "My Plans are my Principals" (...and my principals suck!)
Read the lastest issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The article about Mitt and his job at Bane. His pocketing millions of dollars, while bankrupting "acquired" companies, and his ex colleagues who claim that he didn't want to turn over the "firing of people" to HR. He wanted to keep that job for himself. All the while, all the bankrupted companies employees are handed pink slips, Romney and his cronies walk away with millions. Then they receive government taxpayer money when the company runs into trouble. Yes, we bailed out Mitt and his company, while he sat on BILLIONS of dollars, weasling his way around paying any taxes. Breaking the back of the middle class. If anyone thinks this country isn't going to end up like a third world country is kidding themselves. The middle class will be gone. There will be upper class and there will be starving. Period. All the while Mitt-whether in the white house or one of his own dozen homes, will be sitting just fine.
Now there are all the employees who have no jobs and need assistance, and Romney wants them to "suck it up and get another job". Wants to cut off all the assistance. You know....it will all trickle down.
Trickle down his and Paul Ryans leg. Thats the only trickle down there will be.
[If you can't describe what you are doing as a process, you don't know what you're doing. - W. Edwards Deming]
Crap, you just brought back a lot of early college memories with that one...good and bad!
Here's a little tidbit...seems even the "1%" are starting to want answers:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/09/08/hustler-magazine-offers-1-million-for-a-different-type-of-exposure/
This oughtta be good...
@Roy Wilson again
Exactly, a managed bankruptcy. What Romney and McCain proposed was no money for GM and Chrysler which would have resulted in a full liquidation bankruptcy. In other words you cons may understand...
Romney/McCain plan = no more Gm or Chrysler millions more jobs lost with possible Ford and Toyota fighting to survive.
Obama plan = GM and Chrysler alive and profitable with millions of jobs saved where they are still paying taxes without drawing more tax money for unemployment.
Just the difference in money received in taxes and the loss of money for unemployment compensation amounts to billions of dollars. Of course I don't expect you cons to see that.
Principles?
which ones?
His Mormon missionary; his vulture capitalist; or his more liberal than Ted Kennedy Governor of Massachusetts?
Yea MITT, where are those TAX RETURNS ? We haven't forgotten about them and we will hound you until election day, so fess up !
10 YEARS PLEASE !
You will not win unless you release!
Come on Mitt you can do it, show us you are not a low life scum bag the democrats say you are SHOW US THE RETURNS !
Roy Wilson: Nonsense. Romney suggested the car companies go through traditional bankruptcy knowing that with the massive debt and obligations they had the only option would have been liquidation. Romney proposed no government funds for GM while 17 billion of the bailout was approved under Bush and the remaining 33 billion by Obama. Could you possibly lie more?
r12 "@Roy Wilson Can you explain how Mitt would have managed the GM bankruptcy without any money."
As I recall, Bush agreed to give GM $Billions to help them out before he left office - and nowhere did Romney say he wouldn't have helped facilitate a managed bankruptcy. As for the TARP money - I'm surprised that the Democrats are still trying to use this as a club because;
First - Only about half of the $700 Billion in TARP funds were actually used - the other half was never needed, although the Democrats tried to use the remaining funds for other spending programs.
Second - The funds that WERE used were borrowed under Bush, but were repaid under Obama, with interest - in fact, the government actually made money from the TARP funds loaned to banks, and still Obama has run up the biggest deficits in history, even after collecting the money back from the banks during his term.
Can Mittens provide evidence indicating he had to ship our manufacturing jobs overseas because his taxes were too high? Still waiting for the returns Mitt, this issue isn't going away.
Michael1969-can you debate without resorting to calling people names? What does that prove? Intelligence? Superiority?
No, not so much. Your opinion isn't the only one that counts. Get over yourself. Other people have different opinions and they are just as valid.
Larry-367607 "Roy Wilson: Nonsense. Romney suggested the car companies go through traditional bankruptcy knowing that with the massive debt and obligations they had the only option would have been liquidation."
Yours is the nonsensical comment. Romney suggested “A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs.”
That's a RESTRUCTURING, not a liquidation.
Obama indeed imposed a RESTRUCTURING of GM and Chrysler.
'Spin' it all you want with vague 'assumptions', but nothing changes the fact that Obama did what Romney suggested, but still tries to demonize him.
You might want to actually read Romney's Op-Ed before making wild assumptions and accusations.
How you can continue to support Obama with his record of FAILURE on the economy and jobs is beyond me. Do you REALLY want 'four more years' of this?
Roy, I have read your posts for a while now. What I can't figure out is if you are being deceitful, purposely obtuse, or if you are really that ignorant and misinformed.
When your "principles" include destroying jobs and peoples lives for self enrichment, saying you're against "government handouts while you use them to amass wealth, hiding your fortune offshore while claiming you can create jobs for Americans, playing fast and lose with the tax codes for further wealth, threatening other countries with war when you evaded the service and your sons "have made other career choices", and claiming you want to get the government out of people's lives while threatening women with government interference in their health choices, then thanks but no thanks.
Scott-1352085 "Roy, I have read your posts for a while now. What I can't figure out is if you are being deceitful, purposely obtuse, or if you are really that ignorant and misinformed."
How about 'None of the above'.
If you can give me an example of something I posted that is inaccurate, I would be happy to debate the issue. Specifics, please.
By the way - Here is a very simple concept to consider;
Since most experts predict that the Republicans will still control the House, and possibly the Senate after the elections, we have two choices;
One - Reelect Obama and have 4 more years of gridlock and economic stagnation since he has demonstrated an unwillingness to work with the Republicans on anything.
Two - Elect Romney, and if he doesn't perform over the next four years, then Hillary Clinton should be given a shot in 4 years.
There is no specific background required to be President of the United States.
Lincoln was a blacksmith and postmaster before becoming a U.S. Congressman.
Lyndon Johnson was a school teacher for one year before he got into politics.
Nixon was a lawyer and the owner of a failed business before joining the Navy.
Bush "worked" in his family's oil business and co-owned a baseball team.
I think being a community organizer at a nonprofit and a Constitutional law professor at Columbia University fits the bill.
Obama was also a state Senator for 7 years and a U.S. Senator for three. Just as qualified as any previous President we've had - and far more qualified than Bush.
Romney doesn't have any foreign policy experience, either, and whether he has "business experience" or just "investor" experience is a matter of debate.
I have a much better idea. We'll re-elect Obama, keep the Senate, re-take the House and get moving again. In the meantime, the Republicans kick the obstructionist Teabags to the curb, reinvent themselves to the principles of the Eisenhower administration and become a serious political party again? Sounds like a win win to me.
Scott,
You left out the correct answer choice which obviously is D) all of the above. Roy's just another RNC/Koch brothers troll. He doesn't believe any of the crap he spews. Check the argumentative styles of Michael1969, redsoxrule, Rob in Ma, etc. It's obviously the same person using multiple aliases.
Now who would do that? It would have to be someone with a juvenile mindset who never received mommy's and daddy's approval; therefore, they are attempting to offset their inherent inferiority complex by trying to "prove" their intellectual superiority. Or, he's a paid troll. If that's the case, then the RNC/Koch brothers really need to spend a little more and upgrade their troll brigade.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
That's his problem, we are looking at his principles or lack there of. Every speach Mr. Flipflop gives he tries to say what he thinks people want to hear and usually puts his foot in his mouth. Sorry Mitt people remember what you say one day and then say just the opposite the next when taking about the same subject. What's the next move ban all media so it can't come back and bite you on the butt when you contradict yourself.
Hey, Mitt...have you paid your share of taxes...
so...secrecy is your principle...then go and live in North Korea
Saliva58... "passing an amendment to limit special interest contributions and identify donors" Lotsa' luck wth that one.
As for the media: "An oligarchy of private capital… cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society (because) under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main source of information." Albert Einstein
Wow, get on the bandwagon for Gov. Romney's tax returns.
That is REALLY an important Progressive issue in comparison to Mr. Obama's FAILED policies and what he will do IF he is re-elected to a 2nd term: BYPASS Congressional legislative proceedings and use Executive Orders and Progressive Cabinet member's regulation changes to get his Progressive agenda implemented. Hey, we saw that during his 1st and final term in office.
There are THREE branches to the United States Government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Mr. Obama's bypassing either the Legislative or Judicial branches is setting the stage for a coronation if he is re-elected. Progressives like that idea. Mr. Obama has hammered Congress (and he targets ALL Congressional Representatives) and SCOTUS routinely.
Taken straight from Chicago thug politics: "Man on Five" (TOP DOWN) rule. That is why he had Mr. Bixelrod, Mr. (MIA for teachers strike) Emanuel, and sidekick Valerie Jarrett pulling his coat tail when he moved into the White Hoouse.
BTW: with all the Progressive hype about Gov. Romney's tax returns, there are more important issues facing our country and Mr. Obama, and his surrogates, is doing everything to divert from these issues. I really liked his recent deflection to the "birther" issue again. Next, it will be the weather in China.
Consider this: Mitt Romney President-elect 2012= Undisclosed tax returns+BANK ACCOUNTS in the Cayman Island, Switzerland, and God knows where else, he will not hesitate to RAISE taxes on the middle class and LOWER taxes for the WEALTHIEST of Americans such as HIMSELF, and OH YES, he will OUT-SOURCE Social Security and SCHOOLS!
Mitt Romney, President?
When Vlad Putin endorses your candidate, it speaks volumes about Obama's principles. Maybe Vlad could help Clinton on the campaign trail. Vlad know's a lot about how to control the media and voters too.
Romeny/Ryan 2012
I don't think you can use the words principles and Romney in the same sentence.
This is the man who won't tell us his proposals until "after he's elected." Yeah - fat chance on that one. That's like telling me you won't let me know how the car runs - I can't take a test drive - until after I buy it. Not happening!
This is the man who said he won't release his tax returns beyond 2 years - and those two years - if we're lucky - 10/15/2012, because, according to Queen Annie - it would give "those people" more ammunition. Pretty sure that statement gives us enough! Principles??? NOT
This is the man who said he's for a woman's right to choice - but now against it. Those principles????
This is a man who chose a Vice President who basically doesn't agree with him on much - principles? I'm not sure either of them have any.
This is a man who indicated he wants to be President - but maybe only for one term, he isn't sure. Can we all just agree he only wants to say he was once President and doesn't really give a damn about the country? Principles - he has none!
ido - the executive order stupidity??? President Obama has signed 135 to Bush's 291. Your point?????
Why are you willing to let Mitt avoid the STANDARD set by EVERY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN MODERN TIME of releasing at least 5 years of tax returns? Oh, that's right, might show his hands are still in Bain, right?
Ido - you shouldn't talk principles since every post you make show you have none!
Obama/Biden 2012
Iaagys... Exactly. Or, to put it another way: "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Albert Einstein
Has anyone else noticed (or is it just me) that Michael, and Roy Wilson seem to be outnumbered here? Do I detect a pattern? Kinda' gives one some vestige hope, does it not? "When people who are honestly mistaken learn the truth, they will either cease being mistaken or cease being honest."
Devonshire11... Has it occured to you that America is not a corporation.
Jake...An oxymoron: Romney's "Principals"
I'd love an ammendment to reform campaign finances and lobbying. For it to have any chance it would have to be a grass roots effort like the Equal Rights Ammendment. The problem is, the ERA failed when it came to the states ratifying it, and in this case, it's going to be the very politicians that need to ratify it that will be opposed.
Jon R-469000
You sound like an amateur psychologist - don't give up your day job.
Hoping for a Democratic sweep in November is not much of a plan - besides, they had one for Obama's first 2 years, and look where it got us - $16 Trillion in debt.
By the way - I don't use multiple aliases, and I doubt that the RNC/Koch brothers appreciate my consistent support for Universal Health Care and my support for eliminating tax loopholes that the rich use to avoid taxes.
Also, I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat, and I never voted for Bush or McCain, but I do wish that Hillary would have won - I think she could have done a much better job than Obama or McCain because she is a pragmatist, not an idealogue like Obama - Hillary would have found a way to work with the Republicans to get things done, like her husband did. Obama has shown that he is unwilling or unable to do that.
Don't think for a second that I'm endorsing Michael's puerile, hypocritical, straw-man line of thought, but this is baloney.
Since the beginning of the Iraq War, our oil imports from Iraq have been reduced substantially. Over the course of the decade, we became less dependent on Middle Eastern powers and more dependent on our on production and that of our neighbors – Mexico and, in particular, Canada.
To say that the Iraq War was a matter of securing a steady supply of cheap oil is to give too much credit to W. Gas prices wouldn't have gone up the way they have.
Voters do have a sense of his principles.
1) Bain Capital
2) Assets abroad, Swiss accounts, Cayman Islands, phony shell companies to avoid paying U.S. taxes
3)Before officially becoming governor of Massachusetts, transferring assets to his wife to understate his wealth.
4) 1001 "Flip Flops."
Mitt and the GOP will brutally slash spending for:
Food Stamps, WIC, home mortgage relief, senior services, educational funding, veterans assistance, all programs that help the middle class and the poor.
1) Through inadequate "vouchers," the elimination of Medicare.
2) Through defunding Block grants, the elimination Medicaid.
3) The GOP will repeal the Affordable Care Act. Once again, the insurance companies will make the "rules." Only the healthy will receive policies. The sick subscriber, will be dumped.
4) Rolling back regulations to protect our environment. The industrial polluters will be allowed to continue to destroy our planet. The GOP states that global warming is "junk science."
Romney will cut taxes for the rich.
His government largesse for the wealthy will be substantial.
He will fail to achieve a balance budget.
Why should voters have confidence in Romney?
Romney and Ryan will further sink the majority of Americans.
...and the GOP will leave more red ink on the U.S.'s economic book.
Obama/Biden 2012!
Every voter should read "Under the Banner of Heaven" by John Krakauer before the election.
Then decide.
Mitt Romney became Gov. in January 2003; he took over a failing state on the brink of bankruptcy and turned it around during his tenure:
In 2002, Massachusetts' economy was rapidly deteriorating. It was ranked 50th, the second worst in the nation in its increase in unemployment. [1] Job losses were so great that although a dozen states were more populous, and California had over 5 times as many people [2], Massachusetts lost more jobs than anywhere else in the country:
“Massachusetts is number one in the nation in job losses, shedding 4.7 percent of all jobs over the last two years. The state has lost 71,000 manufacturing jobs, or 17 percent; 69,000, or nearly 14 percent, of all jobs in the professional and business services sector; and nearly 18 percent of all jobs in the information industry.”

Mitt Romney was Gov. of Massachusetts from January 2003-November 2007; Check out the graph for unemployment during Romney's tenure, scroll down for the graph year by year.
http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LASST25000003
Massachusetts was 50th--nearly the worst in the nation in the increase in unemployment rates-- the year that just ended when Romney took office.
Romney got Massachusetts' unemployment increase down to 38th place by the end of his first year in office.
http://www.bls.gov/lau/lastch03.htm
The year he left office (2007), the trend in Massachusetts' unemployment rate was 12th in the nation [15], a big improvement from the 50th place it was in the year he won office.

Facts are for Conservatives - Lies are for Liberals
Romney-Ryan 2012 - Believe in America !!!
Romney would be a pimp for the 1% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Robme's would use the Middle Class as Cash Cows for the 1% !!!!!!
Leave it to Mitt Romney: FLIP-FLOPPING AGAIN IN MEET THE PRESS.

He said that he would give it to the rich people in the A*** This man would say ANYTHING to get elected!!

As far as I can tell, Mitt Romney has one principle: whatever decision makes the most money for Mitt Romney is the right decision. I honestly believe that he would govern in accordance with that singular prime directive.
You have nothing but your own "ass"-umption of what you're talking about here - no proof of what your accusing him of. I sense, in you, more jealousy of him just simply because he is a "self-made" rich guy and a Republican! - in fact I believe your spew about him because you're life is that of a total loser and always will be.
So he would balance the budget by his SECOND term but condemn Obama for not balancing it during his first term.
Mittens isn't going to get a second term because he isn't going to get a first term.
Hey, everyone can dream right?
Harley Chic -
I already posted the rebuttal to your "Romney's Massachusetts Miracle" fantasy once. But here it is again:
From Politifact:
"At the end of his term, Romney could claim a small net job gain and a lower unemployment rate, but the pace of job growth lagged the nation badly and only a huge outflow of Massachusetts workers to faster growing states kept the unemployment rate from climbing higher.
Yeah, absolutely. Trying to help everyone up is the mantra of a third world country. All third world countries concern themselves with people having enough to eat and being educated. All third world countries want to reduce student loan debt. All third world countries are focused on getting people employed. Equal pay for Equal work. Living wages
You have absolutely no clue what you're babbling about. You want to see the US driving toward a third world country? Have a look at out sourcing. Have a look at cutting funding for education. Have a look at turning women into second class citizens. Have a look at dragging religion into everything. Have a look at Union busting. Have a look at breaking minimum wage. Have a look at cutting social programs... Sounds more like YOUR party than mine.
Cause -> Effect: the Republican Logic Gap
I see you're still barfing up your same old no value bs. I think the reason you just dislike Mr. and Mrs. Romney so much is that, even in your wildest dreams, they would never associate with a low-life like you! And because they have been happily married all those years where your love life and - if you have EVER been married - has really been a dismal failure! Live a long life of abject failure, sweetheart.
Harley Chic that's all fine and good for Massachusetts. But what about the 49 other states? What about the 100,000 plus who lost their jobs in the companies that Romney and his buddies took over? Are they from Massachusetts? Unlikely. A small state is a whole different ball game than an entire country, especially when he is pathetically weak on foreign policy. He took a trip back in late July and early August and shot his mouth off on matters that were none of his business and about national security. Loose cannon comes to mind.
Obama/Biden 2012
I seriously doubt Obama consulted with Mitt Romney when he decided what to do about GM.
It's only narcissists who think the world revolves around them.
What a bunch of whiney liberal double standard hypocrites do we have on this board. OK, so maybe I shouldn't start out so harsh, after all we know liberals are hyptonized Obamabots. They simply can't help themselves. It's all about Obama and that's exactly the way he wants his Obamabots. He wants them to all march in lockstep with everything he and his cadre of propogandists say. Obama says he's better than Romney and all his Obamabots in unison say the exact same thing... This goes for anything Obama says... from the economy is doing just fine, all the way to unemployment is getting better.
Obamabots believe it all as long as Obama says it. These liberals have given over their thought process to a master magician with skills to brainwash any willing participant. This is what he's looking for... those who will follow along blindly without question.
The hatred towards conservatives is inherent in the brainwashing process. The one thing I've noticed on these boards is the rampant insults and attempts to diminish anything conservatives say. If that doesn't tell all tales, nothing does...
So, upon recognition of this, it appears the ability to reach any liberal is beyond reasonable thought. I guess we'll just have to keep on pointing out Obama's inability to lead and how terrible he has made the conditions of this country regardless of liberals ability to even comprehend it.
Romney IS the biggest current threat to the United States of America.
YOU LIBERAL DEMONPUKES ARE SUCH HYPOCRITES IT MAKES ME NAUSEOUS!!
Democrats convened in Charlotte, NC, will double down on their claim that Bain Capital is really the Bain crime family. They will accuse Republican nominee Mitt Romney and Bain's other "greedy" co-founders of stealing their winnings, evading taxes and lighting cigars with $100 bills on their yachts.
But Bain's private-equity executives have enriched dozens of organizations and millions of individuals in the Democratic base — including some who scream most loudly for President Obama's re-election.
Government-worker pension funds are the chief beneficiaries of Bain's economic stewardship. New York-based Preqin uses public documents, news accounts and Freedom of Information requests to track private-equity holdings. Since 2000, Preqin reports, the following funds have entrusted some $1.56 billion to Bain:
* Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund ($2.2 million)
* Indiana Public Retirement System ($39.3 million)
* Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System ($177.1 million)
* The Los Angeles Fire and Police Pension System ($19.5 million)
* Maryland State Retirement and Pension System ($117.5 million)
* Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada ($20.3 million)
* State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio ($767.3 million)
* Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System ($231.5 million)
* Employees' Retirement System of Rhode Island ($25 million)
* San Diego County Employees Retirement Association ($23.5 million)
* Teacher Retirement System of Texas ($122.5 million)
* Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System ($15 million)
These funds aggregate the savings of millions of unionized teachers, social workers, public-health personnel and first responders. Many would be startled to learn that their nest eggs are incubated by the company that Romney launched and the financiers he hired.
Leading universities have also profited from Bain's expertise. According to Infrastructure Investor, Bain Capital Ventures Fund I (launched in 2001) managed wealth for "endowments and foundations such as Columbia, Princeton and Yale universities."
According to BuyOuts magazine and S&P Capital IQ, Bain's other college clients have included Cornell, Emory, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Notre Dame and the University of Pittsburgh. Preqin reports that the following schools have placed at least $424.6 million with Bain Capital between 1998 and 2008:
* Purdue University ($15.9 million)
* University of California ($225.7 million)
* University of Michigan ($130 million)
* University of Virginia ($20 million)
* University of Washington ($33 million)
Major, center-left foundations and cultural establishments also have seen their prospects brighten, thanks to Bain Capital. According to the aforementioned sources, such Bain clients have included the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Doris Duke Foundation, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Ford Foundation, the Heinz Endowments and the Oprah Winfrey Foundation.
Why on Earth would government-union leaders, university presidents and foundation chiefs let Bain oversee their precious assets?
"The scrutiny generated by a heated election year matters less than the performance the portfolio generates to the fund," California State Teachers' Retirement System spokesman Ricardo Duran said in the Aug. 12 Boston Globe. CalSTRS has pumped some $1.25 billion into Bain.
Since 1988, Duran says, private-equity companies like Bain have outperformed every other asset class to which CalSTRS has allocated the cash of its 856,360 largely unionized members.
Is Bain really a gang of corporate buccaneers who plunder their ill-gotten gains by outsourcing, euthanizing feeble portfolio companies and giving cancer to the spouses of those whom they fired? If so, union bosses, government retirees, liberal foundations and elite universities thrive on the wages of Bain's economic Darwinism.
If, however, these institutions relish the yields that Bain Capital generates by supporting start-ups and rescuing distressed companies, 80 percent of which have prospered, then this money is honest — and Team Obama isn't.
RAF said:

No, actually Obama followed Bush's lead because Bush started TARP. Obama just took the program and followed. TARP was not Obama's idea although Obama twisted it into a program that completely benefited union workers while disregarding any and all prior stockholders. The program benefited Obama by increasing his voting base to include union workers in droves...
You are absolutely right RAF - We have one narcissist that thinks the world revolves around him and that's Obama.
Romney wants us to vote for him because of his principles??? HAH!!! That's a good one. Score card on number of Romney's principles: ZE-RO!
When pressed for details, Romney sidestepped and responded that the American people should know by know how he'll govern based on principals...
As I've been saying for the last 4-5 weeks on these boards, Romney has NO Specifics, at least ones he'll make public.
I certainly hope he doesn't think that answer will score him points in the national debates... Romney is asking us to trust him, and overlook his shell corporations in the Caymans, or Swiss bank accounts and whatever he is hiding in undisclosed tax return documents. He's asking us to forget the ads that take Obama comments out of context, in an attempt to deceive voters.
If it is to be a choice of trust, I'm gonna have to vote Obama, as I know what he'll do, unlike Romney.
Republicans not feeling so good today? Take two tax cuts, roll back a couple of regulations and call me in the morning.
Ha Ha. What principals?
And Obama is probably almost as bad. For instance:
Both Obama and Romney (and the corporate media) are lying to you when they say the government can't do anything about the high unemployment rate. The truth is they could do things to significantly lower it but they don't because they are allowing corporations to use the high jobless rate to drive down wages and benefits.
Since the 1930's they have known how to greatly stimulate jobs growth, but this entails a redistribution of wealth and power away from the 1% to the 99%, and politicians and the two main political parties are bankrolled by the 1% so they won't do it.
One of the ways is direct job creation by the Federal Government as they did during the New Deal with the WPA etc. but while our current crop of government officials threw trillions of $$ at the people who caused the crash in 2008 and "Great Recession" they say they don't have enough money to do it for millions of americans who were are the recessions victims.
Here's a couple of graphs of the unemployment rate during the 1930's, after WPA and various other works projects were enacted, and by the way that bump upward in the jobless rate around 1936-37 was caused by the FDR administration briefly reversing their policy of social spending and started trying to lower the deficit. They realized their mistake and started spending again and the unemployment numbers went down again.
http://contraryinvesting.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Unemployment-Rates-During-the-Great-Depression.gif
http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/depression(6).JPG
But we didn't lick the Depression with just the New Deal spending. It took WWII when the government completely took over the economy and we spent even more that the jobless rate went below what it was in 1929 and we came out of the Depression.
Just as It is BS when both Democrats and Republicans say that the government can't do anything about the high unemployment it's also BS that government can't do anything about rising poverty. Here's what they did in the 1960's and the result in graphs just below it:
The War on Poverty is the unofficial name for legislation first introduced by United States President Lyndon B. Johnson during his State of the Union address on January 8, 1964. This legislation was proposed by Johnson in response to a national poverty rate of around nineteen percent. The speech led the United States Congress to pass the Economic Opportunity Act, which established the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) to administer the local application of federal funds targeted against poverty.
As a part of the Great Society, Johnson believed in expanding the government's role in education and health care as poverty reduction strategies.[1] These policies can also be seen as a continuation of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, which ran from 1933 to 1935, and the Four Freedoms of 1941.
The popularity of a war on poverty waned after the 1960s. Deregulation, growing criticism of the welfare state, and an ideological shift to reducing federal aid to impoverished people in the 1980s and 1990s culminated in the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996, which, as claimed President Bill Clinton, "end[ed] welfare as we know it."…

http://21stcenturywaves.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/pverity.rising.jpg
By the way, that downward trend in the poverty rate during the last half of the Clinton Administration was mostly due to the tech bubble, not from Clinton gutting WELFARE.
The bubble popped in 2000-2001 resulting in the first big recession of the new decade:
The dot-com bubble (also referred to as the Internet bubble and the Information Technology Bubble[1]) was a historic speculative bubble covering roughly 1995–2000 (with a climax on March 10, 2000, with the NASDAQ peaking at 5132.52 in intraday trading before closing at 5048.62) during which stock markets in industrialized nations saw their equity value rise rapidly from growth in the Internet sector and related fields….
The collapse of the bubble took place during 2000-2001….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dot-com_bubble
Other things that lowered poverty in the 1960's and contributed to rising standard of living for most americans were hold overs from the New Deal and WWII domestic policies like the high tax rate on the top income bracket:

This has caused the rich to get a much greater share of national wealth and rising wealth inequality:

Mainly they enriched themselves, tickedoff.
That's the whole point of vulture capital firms.
Don't you wonder how Mitt Romney "earned" $21.6 million from Bain Capital last year without lifting a finger?
The Federal Bailout That Saved Mitt Romney
Government documents prove the candidate's mythology is just that
Ticked Off in Ohio - They are Obamabots. They repeat what they are told to repeat. They have long since lost their ability to think for themselves. They thrive on Obama's speeches to gain as much of his juice as they can. To them, it's addictive and the more they consume, the less humanlike they are. Facts don't matter... we witnessed this during the 3 days of the Democratic National Convention. Even Clinton, who hates Obama was singing Obama's praises. Nothing to praise, but the song went forth anyway.
Anyone that is not hypnotised sees this. What's needed is an anti-hypnosis cure... anyone know someone that can do that?
Just for brianb:
Right-wingers are less intelligent than left wingers, says study
Right-wingers tend to be less intelligent than left-wingers, and people with low childhood intelligence tend to grow up to have racist and anti-gay views, says a controversial new study.
Conservative politics work almost as a 'gateway' into prejudice against others, say the Canadian academics.
Crucially, people's educational level is not what determines whether they are racist or not - it's innate intelligence, according to the academics.
Social status also appears to play no part.
The study, published in Psychological Science, claims that right-wing ideology forms a 'pathway' for people with low reasoning ability to become prejudiced against groups such as other races and gay people.
Left-wingers tend to be more open-minded says the survey - Democrats voted in first black U.S. president Barack Obama. But right-wing ideology forms a pathway for prejudice - Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney, pictured right, was glitter-bombed yesterday by gay-rights activists because of his views
'Cognitive abilities are critical in forming impressions of other people and in being open minded,' say the researchers.
'Individuals with lower cognitive abilities may gravitate towards more socially conservative right-wing ideologies that maintain the status quo.
'It provides a sense of order.'
The study, by academics at Brock University in Ontario, Canada, used information from two UK studies from 1958 and 1970 , where several thousand children were assessed for intelligence at age 10 and 11, and then asked political questions aged 33.
The 1958 National Child Development involved 4,267 men and 4,537 women born in 1958.
The British Cohort Study involved 3,412 men and 3,658 women born in 1970.
The paper analysed large UK studies which compared childhood intelligence with political views in adulthood across more than 15,000 people.
The authors claim that people with low intelligence gravitate towards right-wing views because they make them feel safe.

If you want to tout Obama's success of the auto industry, please do some research into who his first Car Czar was and what happened to him.
What's really telling about the liberal version of what happened to Bain Capital because they never show the "rest of the story." They never show Mitt stepping in and saving the company... the liberals want you to believe that Mitt did something wrong, when it was Mitt that did everything right. Here's the rest of the story from Rolling Stone:

Very good point. I have told people this story and how this and his efforts with the SLC Olympics show he is a fixer. However, it's important to note, there are two different companies - Bain & Co. and Bain Capital. Romney left Bain & Co. to help start Bain Capital, but went back to Bain & Co to save the company.
Note:
GM is STILL not healthy. The Record quarterly profits was from an unexpected increase in sales for Opel of Europe, cutting R & D, and putting off capital improvements into existing facilities. These things are not what healthy companies do.

Can you say "feeding frenzy"? It's not that they want to kill the middle class once and for all, it's that they are at the feeding trough and are fighting for the last few scraps. These artificially low tax rates at the top combined with their new-found (last ten years) trickery of manipulating standard income as capital gains have done more harm to the economy than any single event aside from the collapse itself. These low personal taxes encourages them to remove money from businesses and our economy as personal income and stuff it in the Cayman Islands. This is the sole reason the rich got richer during this recession while the middle class lost 40% of their wealth.
Each CEO has a choice... take the profits out now while demand and personal taxes are low, or reinvest and create jobs for non-existant demand. Which would you take? This is fixable, but the Republicans don't want it fixed... they choose rich.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh bull@!$%#. Lower taxes haven't create jobs and to believe so is like thinking that the Sun revolves around the Earth. We have a lower top rate than the damn Germans, and they are doing MUCH better than we are. Lowering taxes only reduces revenue and gives more money to the rich while hurting everybody else. Besides, the ONLY way Romney's tax plan can possibly be revenue-neutral is if he RAISES taxes on the poor while CUTTING them for the rich. That is even assuming that there is "dynamic economic growth." I personally say repeal ALL of the Bush tax cuts, raise capital gains and income tax rates, add some more brackets, and have a top marginal rate of 76% for those making $15 million.
First of all, Republicans never proposed any tax plan even remotely similar to Simpson-Bowles. I didn't necessarily like the plan (I didn't like the repeal of the AMT or the reduction of the top rate to 28%), I was willing to go along with it if it raised revenues and was somewhat progressive (which it was, as it raised capital gains tax to the same rate as earned income). Just about every Republican tax plan has been lower rates and "promises" of reducing deductions and exemptions, yet even if they were willing to go along with the base broadening they would only do it to make it "revenue-neutral." In other words, Republicans would never propose a plan that raised revenues; Simpson-Bowles raised over $1.2 trillion over the next decade. Secondly, how the hell can you compare Obama to Reagan and Clinton??? Reagan COMPROMISED with Democrats and RAISED taxes later on, while Clinton was forced to the center because of the 1994 Republican Revolution and the Reagan movement of the late 80s and early 90s. Obama moved to the center numerous times (healthcare reform, deficit reduction, economic stimulus, climate change, etc), but the GOP was adamant on obstruction. If you want Obama to compromise, you better tell your Republican buddies to agree to raising revenues, dealing with climate change, and spending money to stimulate the economy.
While there were more Democrats that opposed Simpson-Bowles, There were 3 Republicans and 4 Democrats that opposed the bill. One of those Republicans was Paul Ryan, who recently had the guts to criticize Obama on rejecting the commission.
Now, my fellow Democrats and liberals, I come to ask you to return to the voting booths with a vengeance. This election will decide the fate of our nation for a generation, and if we screw up, our children will pay the price. But I do not only come for you to vote for the President; I come before you to ask a massive campaign to return Democratic control to the House and preserve the Senate. Unless we retake Congress, the United States will most likely be doomed to at least 2 more years of gridlock and obstruction, and with the economy in disarray we cannot wait another minute. We need to campaign fiercely in the Senate and House races, and depict the Republicans for the treasonous bastards that they are. THEY threatened to make America default on it's debt in order to destroy the President's reputation. THEY refused to compromise on any issue, whether it be deficit reduction or healthcare reform. And THEY have sabotaged Congress and caused gridlock in Washington, not the Democrats. Unless we want to see America stagnate for 2 more years and see the world economy teeter on the brink of another global depression, we HAVE to retake the House and keep the Senate. It is possible; the numerous Republican gaffes have endangered numerous seats in both houses, and their regressive policies on Medicare, the budget, and the economy can easily tip the balance. It will not be easy, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. We can restore America to political sanity, but we have to be aggressive. And if we retake the House, hold the Senate, and re-elect the President, there is a chance that the Republican Party will return to the center. And not the center that Republicans have held for the past 30 years, where tax cuts for the rich are necessary for economic growth; I'm talking about the old center, the pre-Reagan center, where tax increases are on the table, social programs are safe from the budget ax, and supply-side economics is treated as junk science. If we can moderate the Republicans, we can stop this redistribution of wealth that has plagued our nation since Reagan and reestablish our nation as a nation of the poor and middle class, not of the rich. All this is possible, but we need your help. Will you come fight with me to restore America???
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
When?
You're obviously making it up as you go along, as Romney has not said he will do any of those things.
And Obama gave 25.1% of his income to charity in 2009 and over 14% in 2010.
From the Washington Post:
Admit it - you got that lie from Mike Huckabee. And he just made it up.
"I want to make sure people understand, despite what the Democrats said at their convention, I am not reducing taxes on high income taxpayers."
There you go ya bunch of dimwits. Straight from his mouth. Try reading the article that you are posting about instead of just spewing out your preconceived BS. The man just said that he won't be reducing taxes on high income taxpayers. Your "Romney is only for the rich..." is getting to the point of jaut plain LAME!
Tim - you are not as smart as your avatar.
Romney has presented no plan. Ryan has. And if you look at Ryan's plan, you will see tax reductions for the rich and service cuts to everyone else.
Romney has also repeated the conservative mantra that "tax cuts create jobs".
Who do you think he's planning to cut taxes for? The poor?
Besides Tim, Bush already gave the wealthy their tax cuts.
The result was to plunge this nation into horrible debt and a loss of jobs.
We won't get out of the mess until we END the tax cuts.
People keep looking back at history and remembering the "good old days".
Back in the "good old days" the wealthy paid a much higher tax rate.

Since the 60's the tax rate for those in the middle have gone up, the poorest gone down, and for the very wealthy it has plummeted.

People wonder why the economy is in such a mess.
The Bush tax cuts cut jobs, and cut tax revenue.
Many of the most wealthy sold off their US assets. For Good Reason. It was the best time to sell. They would get to pocket more of the money to buy foreign products like Mercedes, Yachts, and vacation hideaways in Croatia, Italy, the Caribbean etc.
A very publicized example was the selling of America's Beer, Budweiser. Now Anheuser Busch is owned by a foreign (Belgium/Brazil) company.
The reduction of taxes paid by the super rich has destroyed this nation.
The Republicans have fought against this President in his attempts to repeal those tax cuts. In so doing the Romney types have gotten filthy rich and the rest of us have gotten poorer.
Ya gotta love reading Roy Wilson's posts.
He seems to be playing the WHO'S THE BIGGEST LIAR game with Mitt Romney -- they're both trying to win!
I'll fight with you Freshieee, you are a smart smart young person.
PS that is not a typo I meant to say smart twice!
Tim with a bunch of numbers said
Governor Romney also said he was for a ban on assault weapons... He also indicated that he was for the woman's right to chose abortion. He also said that he was proud that President Obama used his health care act as a model for the ACA. He has since recanted all of those things. Why should I believe him now??? What could he possibly say that I don't think is a lie or fabrication to pander to voters. He will reverse his position once the election is over...
No it isn't...BECAUSE THEIR WAS NO RECOMMENDATION FROM THE SIMPSON-BOWLES COMMISSION!!
That's right, the commission failed to meet the required threshold to make ANY recommendations!
What IS interesting is that Paul Ryan was one of the Republicans who voted AGAINST the work of the commission...because it relied on tax increases to close part of the gap and failed to destroy Medicare!
http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/30/politics/fact-check-ryan-debt-commission/index.html
So those are the "principles" upon which Romney and Ryan would govern...lying, deception, faulty arithmetic, and destruction of the social safety net.
If you vote for them don't claim you weren't warned.
Devonshire11, "What Romney said specifically is he will create American jobs."
Where have I heard that before? Oh, yes, the Republicans who were elected in 2010. "Laser focus on jobs", they said. What I have seen is a laser focus on abortion and women's reproductive rights. Where are the jobs?
Relying on Mitt's principles to decipher how he would govern is what is so scary. He has showed that he has no problem devastating people's lives in order to make him and his friends money. He seems to have "the ends justify the means" as a guiding principle, and that is not the American way. He has made it clear by his actions that he thinks the poor and middle class are expendable. What he SAYS is not really relevant, because he has demonstrated that he will say anything he thinks his audience wants to hear.
Absolutely astounds me how the "progressives" keep screaming about Gov. Romney's tax returns and accuse he and Ryan of lying about everything when their messiah, the Arab-American, may be the most secretive, arrogant, dishonest man who has ever been president.
TERRY ANDERSON,
A BLACK LOS ANGELES TALK RADIO HOST, WENT DOWN A LIST OF THINGS SENATOR OBAMA
SAID THAT AREN'T EXACTLY CORRECT.
1.) Selma March Got Me Born - NOT
EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had
no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965.
(Google 'Obama Selma ' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its
various untruths.) ! !
2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT
EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work
with the Kenyan Government.
3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter- NOT
EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments
Kenya has ever had.
4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY; your cousin Raila Odinga has created
mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya
. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is
pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law.
Your half-brother, Abongo Oba ma, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your
New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the
following link for verification of that....and for more.
Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia Muslim
law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned
Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian
church where they took shelter... Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the
election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No
one wants to know the truth.
5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at
5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't
allow her to have been one of 14 wives to1 man.
6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT
EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came)
means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. He is the first Arab-American
President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian
from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his
father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya , his father's
family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African
Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not
African Negro). Go to:

EXACTLY, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in
Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).
February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times: Mr. Obama recalled the
opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate
accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama
voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the
prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela
is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced
and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.'
9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian - NOT
EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.
10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia , I Have More Foreign Experience – NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to
10, and couldn't even speak the language. What did you learn except how to

EXACTLY, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger
surprise); you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO

you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.
15.) I Won't Run On A National Ticket In '08- NOT EXACTLY, despite saying, live on TV, which you
would not have enough experience by then, and you are all about having
experience first.
16.) Voting 'Present' is Common In Illinois Senate - NOT EXACTLY, they are common for YOU, but

change it or create it.
21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass- NOT
EXACTLY, it took just 14 days from start to finish.

EXACTLY, your bill was rejected by your own party for its pandering and
lack of all regulation - mainly because of your Nuclear donor, Exelon, from
which David Axelrod came.
23.) I Have Released My State Records- NOT
EXACTLY, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be
released, exposing all the special interests pork hidden within.

EXACTLY, even your own supporters claim to have not seen BOLD
action on your part.

handed to you, after their creation by a fellow Senator, to assist you in a
future bid for higher office.

39.) My uncle liberated Auschwitz concentration camp - NOT EXACTLY, your mother had no brothers and the
Russian army did the liberating.
Does this guy ever tell the truth???
pressed for specifics, Romney resisted
I guess when you don't have any specifics to run on principals are the next best thing........NOT.
I've had enough of the rethugli-on reliance on our country's military. Been there, seen that. No thanks
The principals that stands out to b me is sheltering his bankrolls in off shore accounts and Greed!
LMarcT
Oh MY GOD! I finally have a reason to agree with Romney! He's right! I can look to his principles (or lack of same) for a sense of how he would govern! It's true!
The GOP must be the mystic party. First, george bush looks into Valad's eyes, sees his soul, and tells us what a wonderful human being he is. Now Mutt wants us to "look" at his morals, opps, I mean, principles. This is the same party that gave us the "infamous, I am not a crook, crook" Richard Nixon, Ronnie Ray-Guns and he who occupies the position of worst U. S. President ever, dick cheney, opps, I mean, george bush.
Sorry, my fingers seem to have a mind of their own today.

He will show us his birth certificate
Interesting you still bring this up. You cons just can'y help yourselves can you? The state of AZ's top voting offical threatened to try and keep President Obama off the ballot thks year unless he was shown Obama's birth certificate. He was shown it and satisfied with it. BTW----he's a rethugli-con. Get over it.
Anothr interesting pointg about your post is it is missing one item hat you cons have tried to blundgeon both Clinton and Obama with: their lack of military service. I see no where in Mutt's resume anything about his having served this country. Guess that only, at least to you cons, pertains to any Dems seeking election. How hypocritical, esp. since he, like bushie, seems to be banging the war drums.
No thanks, I've had enough of rethugli-con Presidents. If these clowns really loved America as much as they want you to believe then they really wouldn't be running for office.
Could it be that the reason that T'Gop candidates and their minions have nothing to say is because they have... nothing to say? LOL What original ideas have they come up with so far?
They have been running a campaign on the 1. "Just say NO" platform.
2. the "Whatever the otherside proposes we the T'Gop Romney/Ryan propose the opposite" Platform.
3. The "whatever policies and principles the Dems have T'Gop are against it" platform.
4. "Whatever the President and the Democrats say we T'Romney/Ryans will say the opposite Platform". ...
5. and the "We have no policy statements because (but don't tell anyone, its a secret) we really have no workable policies, in on as our platform'.
And the ... 6. "We have no talking points to lamblast the Pres and the Dems with because the Democratic strategists etc have stopped offering us any solutions or talking points to use against or attack them with, like they used to do on news talk programs before they wised up".
So now 7. "We have a fact free policy because We won't tell you anything and We don't have to tell you peons anything anyway sort of a Platform"
Closing with the .8... Just TRUST T'US platform....T'Cause we know what is best for YOU"...
Peace and all that.....
Not only does lack of intelligence make people vote conservative, but so does alcohol. They tried to give everyone the day off to vote in Australia, but what they found out is that people went out, got drunk, and voted "conservative". My one friend who cannot figure out the internal volume of a box even after I gave him the formula on many different occasions, is conservative, and drinks. He also voted for Rick Scott, works 10-12 hours days, and thinks I am lazy (since I also used to work 10-12 hour days)...sorry but I see the string on that carrot. I have tried to help him see the "logic", but he is how he is, and still love him as a friend (no homo).
Let me guess this is just like those tax returns huh? We have to trust him? LOL, when everyone knows that "the devil is in the details". Like when he "saved" Bain from failing, did he not get bailed out by the taxpayers? Did Bain not get money from the FDIC? Therefore, did Romney or the taxpayers actually save Bain? Without the taxpayer's money he could not have done it.
At least he gave ONE detail, that he would blindly follow and do whatever Israel tells him to do, just like his does for his GOP masters. Nice foreign policy there... That he would start a war with Iran for them wanting to have something to defend themselves with? How many countries in the world already have nukes? Iran is not allowed to have one because they might harm the bully or stop them from being such a bully.
Many rich people are already preparing to lose 50% of their wealth, know that Mitt is not going to win, that taxes are going to go up, and are preparing for the "worst". It is what HAS to happen for our system to continue. Sorry, but we never should have let you acquire that much money in the first place. You should have been smarter too, and should not have pushed for those low tax rates. I know you think it is "your" money, but it is not. Money is fake, artificial, man made, chits, chips, etc. that does not really mean ANYTHING. Think of it like money from any game, once the game is over, does that money mean anything? Nope it goes back in the box. Money is not life and death, resources are. The only reason we have money is to make bartering of resources simple and easy. The only reason that money = resources in DUE TO SOCIETY. Without a society or government paper money is worthless.
I know however you are going to freak out about taxes and instead of JUST FING PAYING the taxes you are going to whine, cry, pitch a fit, etc. Drag down the economy even further since you SEE ALL THE MONEY going to taxes. It is why businesses DO NOT WANT TO PAY THIER TAXES. Gee we made 21 million this year and did X amount of stuff in order to make that 21 mil. "If only we did not have to pay taxes and instead of paying 7 mil in taxes if we could get away with only paying 3 mil in taxes then we make an extra 4 mil in profits." All they see is PROFIT, PROFIT, and more PROFIT. They forget about all the things that lets them make a profit/exist in the first place. Let me guess 14 mil is not enough money for you, but 18 mil is? So out of touch with reality it is not even funny, why not try living on 14k or 18k for a year or two, and then come talk to me. Bet $ you would take the 14 mil and STFU about your taxes.
(P.S. I never intent these to be as long as they are, but it just happens.)
Hi Feisty, and all the people, who care about other people. >:o):
Ya know, we get called all kinds of "colorful" names. ( I know sometimes we name call back, but hey, only have so many cheeks we can turn before we respond in kind.)
Another "Ya Know", during the summer of Love (1967), the media labeled the "Freaks" Hippies. This was meant to be degrading and derogatory in nature. An odd thing happened, the Freaks embraced "Hippie" and wore it with pride and honor. >:o): ("Hippie" turned MANY cheeks before striking back.)
My point??? Maybe dear liberal friends, we should embrace "Libbie" and wear it with Pride. >:o): . Love is FREE, for everyone who wishes it. From what I've seen, Libbies have a Love for Life, A Love of Family, A Love for their fellow human, and yes, a Love of Spirit.
This is typed in a fun way, but think about it, could have interesting results.
A little thought:
"You don't need to be from the 60's or have your mind fried on drugs to be a Flower child, or long hair and bare feet to be a Hippie. It's a state of mind. Find Love and Peace in your heart and understanding and kindness for all around you. Face the world with a BIG SMILE and a gentle helping hand and you too may find that you are part of the ever growing family of LOVE."
Much Love & Peaceful Blessings,
Da "Libbie" Pup

I mean, he's treating his candidacy like a Supreme Court justice senate confirmation hearing. "Principles." He's running for elected office; the electorate deserves to know what specific policies he proposes.
Also, if reducing the tax rate on the rich won't change their effective tax rates because he'd also couple the lower marginal rate with closing unspecified "loopholes" (based on his principals, I guess)...why not just keep doing what we're doing?
We do know Willard's principles from his time at Baine Capital, his overseas draft dodging antics, his protest for the Vietnam War and then deferments, his offshore Cayamn bank accounts and probably Swiss and many others and his stint as governor of MA. Of course as governor he had to offer to take the position with no pay to win, but he made a mess of that one too. When we add just a few of these mentioned items up it equates to a person with a lack of ethics, a scoundrel willing to do anything to make a dollar even if it ruins the lives of the middle class working at the companies Baine Capital destroyed and took their retirement benefits and his waffling on the Vietnam War.
Willard is the lowest piece of scum ever to run for the presidency. His ethics are worse than George W. Bush's and we thought he was the dumbest and lowest of all due to bringing us the Great Recession, the Iraq War wrought on lies and so much more dishonesty not to mention Abramoff. As and American Indian friend said once about a man "he is a snake who crawls in his own @!$%#." I think this pretty much sums up Romney and Ryan. Willard we know who you are and we will not forget come election day!
Principles?....when the candidate and his party have lying not just as an option, but as the number one option for all..................where do principles come into play?
As far as I can tell based on their own words and actions the republican party have no principles other than greed and power...........more and more to republican politicians and their uber rich benefactors and...well, that pretty much covers it.
Neither of these two principles is even remotely what I am looking for in a President or an ideology for my government........
Republicans time in American politics is over...........can't wait for the door to shut on them.
I personally completely resent Romney's snarky comments about President Obama's concern for the environment. Romney cares about nothing and will do nothing to enrich life on this planet unless there is some money in it for his greedy money grubbing buddies. He is a dangerous and irresponsible ass.
Yes Obama is the man he killed bin laden oops he was dead when the seals got here according to some one who was there when it happened. He wants Willards taxes for 10 years but what about his school trans scripts OH I forgot he has them so people can not see them, and his SS# is what?? All Obama wants is to spend more or our money on vacations.

So Roy, you want to reward the republicans for their three+ years of gridlock and allow them more control so they can cut needed programs and give more breaks to the rich who now pay on average only 14% of their wealth in taxes. Let them buy more cars, more minks and more elevators so their cars can be raised from one floor to the next? More off shore accounts and money in foreign banks. In other words reward greed!
Devonshire11
With all this business experience Romney has, look how "well" he did in Massachusetts. Tell me, why does Romney have NO CHANCE carrying Mass? And tell me, why won't Romney talk about Mass?
Roy Wilson,
Compared to GM, how did Ampad do while Romney/Bain had their greedy paws on the company until Ampad’s slide into bankruptcy in 2000??
Ray in Jax
that was GW Bush Aministration's failed promise. Remember the Bush administration’s claims that the Iraq war would pay for itself? In March of 2003, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz told the House Appropriations Committee that Iraqi oil would pay for the costs of the war.
Another Bush Mission Un-Accomplished
clwyd-2621393 "So Roy, you want to reward the republicans for their three+ years of gridlock and allow them more control so they can cut needed programs and give more breaks to the rich who now pay on average only 14% of their wealth in taxes."
Your confused. First, the Republicans have only had a small say for the last 1.5 years - before that, the Democrats controlled everything.
Second - the 'rich' pay taxes on income, not wealth.
Third - I am in favor of making the high income earners pay more in taxes, but mainly by eliminating the 'loopholes' they use to minimize taxes. Their average effective tax rate has dropped in recent decades because of LOOPHOLES much more than because of RATES. An estimated 82% of the Bush tax cuts went to the Middle and Poor classes, not the Rich. Conversely, if we eliminated the Bush tax cuts in their entirety (as scheduled for January 1, 2013), the Middle and Poor classes will suffer the most.
Even Obama's Simpson-Bowles Debt Commission recommended a cut in ta x RATES, but closing the LOOPHOLES would more than offset the lower rates and encourage economic growth - This was a BIPARTISAN Commission.
But the republican voted straight party lines against it and then added wording to get the democrats to vote against it too. Even Paul Worthless Ryan, from my state- God help us!)voted against Simpson-Bowles. You don't get rid of a deficit by making only cuts!!!!! The loopholes are nothing compared to Ryan's, "Path to Ruin" which calls for lowering the tax rate for the top earning $250,000 from 40% to 25%. That is a 40% cut in taxes and loopholes being closed will not make up for it. It is like bush's lost wars and then a tax cut to pay for them???? Stupid republican politics don't make sense!!!!
Roy, I just checked and bush's tax cuts went across the board to all Americans even those at the top!
So he tells us to look to his principles for how he'd govern, that his principles are based on his Mormon faith, and he won't tell us about the Mormon faith.
Add to that his tendency to flip flop and change positions, and what the hell should we think?
Between a mormon and a radical fundamental christian, that's all the principles I need to know about the republican ticket.
We know what the short term agenda is. Get Barack Obama out of office. After that, we'll play it by ear.
Romney already is having to run on his history as a sociopath.
He start his life as a privileged high school thug mugging a kid that offended him, moved on to playing state cop with daddy's help, pulling over frightened people, the dog incident, then ended by creating a business killing careers and jobs.
He needs to run away from everything he has "accomplished" 'cause he spent more effort hiding income than actually accomplishing anything. His money manipulations, Bain management manipulations all speak to dishonesty. Hey, he's entitled to a title like the royalty he believes he represents. Annoint him president or buy him a presidency. If things go to crap he can climb on a yacht and leave for one of the islands where his money lives.
The Ayn Rand acolyte, Paul Ryan, the GOP was a wonderful choice. He follows a philosophy that believes christianity is ludicrous for its altruism. His economics promote predatory, unregulated, unrestrained commerce that creates a wealthy class -- the poor simply need to serve the wealthy or die.
Romney wants to represent the 1% and ensure they own all the assets in an America that operates like the game Monopoly. Ryan hates the poor, the young, the sick, the elderly. His mom better watch out -- cause she will go over the cliff when things get too expensive or burdensome.
You want to know how America ends? Vote for these madmen.
Last month, 380,000 American's mysteriously became classified by
Obama's Department of Labor as no longer participating in the workforce -- Or those whom have given up on finding a job... Think about that!
How does the Dept. of Labor know that someone has given up on working? They don't! The benefit to Obama is that although his jobs creation programs are anemic, by reducing the amount of workforce participants, the unemployment number dropped from 8.3 to 8.1%. This has been going on since Obama took office!!! So far since Obama took office, the Obama Administration has determined that over 9 million Americans have simply given up looking for jobs... Figure that one out! When we pierce through this statistical smoke and mirrors and factor back in those 9 million jobless whom the government has defined out of existence, then the true unemployment rate is 19.9% and rising, and not 8.3% and falling.
Hell, at the beginning of 2012 was one of the worst months in US
history, with a total of 2.3 million people losing jobs or leaving the
workforce in a single month. Yet, the official unemployment rate showed a decline from 8.5% to 8.3% in January - and was such cheering news that it set off a stock rally. How can there be such a stark contrast between the cheerful surface and an underlying reality that is getting worse?
Unemployment didn't drop from 8.3% to 8.1% in August as Obama and Biden have been bragging. The just cooked the numbers... Evidence? Use your common sense! Do you really believe that 9 million Americans have actually left the workforce and decided not to look for jobs any longer?

Let's see, from what little I have gotten out of Romney.
1. He would use 700 billions in Ryan's plan to fund 10 more years of tax cut for the rich.
2. He would increase defense budget.
3. He would help Israel to attack Iran.
That is 1 + 2 + 3 of all increase spending, so basic math must slip his mind since how can you cut deficit if you keep spending more?
Oh, that's right, cut SS, cut medicare, cut education, cut everything in middle class. That's how he will do it.
go see the Obama movie
The constitution states there shall be no religious test for office of the United States. Get a life.
Romney is not going to cut taxes on anyone.
Daniel, all you have to do is figure out a way to get all employers and employees that are paying and working for cash to obey the tax code. Are you really so naive to believe that 23 million people are sitting around doing nothing with no home or food. Hiding income does not always mean putting in a Swiss bank account. The great part of getting paid in cash is it cuts costs (taxes) for employers and you still get to collect food stamps.
That movie is for the GOP sheep not free thinkers ....
That movie shows an ugly ugly truth about Republicans...Take a good long look at the profile photo of President Obama...sneering ...just the way the KKK in this country picture all black men...arrogant, sneering, criminals.
I am deeply offended by that photograph. It's about as racist a statement as it needs to get.
I stand behind my president because he stands behind my country. I fight for my president because he fights for my country. I love my president because he loves his country.
That sneering arrogant photo is 100% proof of how low the GOP will go to show President Obama in the tradition of the racist south. Their big problem with President Obama is that he refuses to read from the script of Uncle Remus to satisfy their racist BS ideas.
Romney has much more experience being a leader than the current Bungler in Chief, and Barry has had almost 4 years of practice!
Romney was a successful Governor, saved the SLC Olympics and created more jobs both in the US and overseas that the President! Barry has add $6 trillion in debt, has a socialistic agenda that includes knocking the US down 'a few notches' (his words) and more importantly Barry cooperates with no one, including the folks who helped get him elected!
Years from now our grandkids and great grandkids will wonder what the hell we were doing when we hired a friggen neighborhood organizer to lead the USA!!! Hell, the era of BHO is already a joke!
To paraphrase the most un-First Lady 'like' wife of Barry: I've never been so ashamed of a President my entire life!
If those voters who only voted for barack hussein obama because he's black, used their brains and voted for the best candidate... Romney/Ryan will win in a landslide!
The Mormon God was once a man. They sure don't tell you that the first time you walk into their church. How this man, born on Planet Kolob, became a man is tricky. Unless you just assume he acquired godlike powers spontaneously, or was granted them by an existing God, who knows.
The Mormon multiple levels of heaven and man-gods having their own planets, and everything is just fruity. This was a hastily made up religion, and the more you look into it, the more it seems like Heaven's Gate or the Unification Church. They make Scientology look mainstream.
Ya know what, Daniel? It's a real LOSER who can't even correctly spell the word LOSER.
Cheers!
Ryan, when questioned some time before he was selected as vice president about what loopholes could be closed stated that those would need to be decided by a committee but said he thought serveral programs that could be considered were the home mortgage interest deduction and taxing employer health plans which were currently tax exempt. Both of those programs he suggested be cut mostly benefit the bottom 90% while 90% of the tax benefit from the lower tax rates would benefit the top 10%. If you believe Romneys statement that he'd see that the middle class wouldn't bear the brunt of his proposal maybe you should look at Bush's promises. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Bush Promise:
Bush facts:
The crazy thing is... this is a very true statement!
We elected a guy President in 08 that was a complete stranger to us! All we knew is that Bush pissed us off and we had never elected a black man before (actually he's really half black/half white... but claiming his blackness was much better politically), and we believed in the 'Hope and Change' thing... which in reality became a 'Smoke and Mirrors' thing.
What fools we were in 08... fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Romney/Ryan to really move forward!
Rub, we all thought we were doing a good thing back in 2008! We were making history electing the very first black man as President.
Now in 2012, we realize that was a very big mistake... not because Obama is black... but because he is truly a horrible leader and possibly a worse negotiator... two very important characteristics for POTUS!
The sad thing is... the next time a 'qualified' black man runs for higher office, we will remember the obama mistake and have our doubts! What a shame!
More important than why "no one has ever asked to see" Romney's birth certificate is
WHY the GOP doesn't want to see his tax returns.
Where your President gets his money, where he keeps it and how much he pays in taxes is something that should concern every American citizen.
Otherwise, how do you KNOW he's not a foreign agent?
NOW, not when he was born,
And BillT - don't come on here telling us all how you voted for Obama and now regret it.
We know you're a GOP'er all the way - partly by how baldly and badly you lie, partly because your history is out there for all to see.
Or don't you use "fact-checking", either? GUESS NOT!
Bill's first post on Newsvine:
Bill Maher destroyed the creator of "2016" on his show last week. Made the guy, Dinesh D'Souza look like an incompetent fool. If the debates go half as well for Democrats, the election will be pretty much over.
Hey, Mitt, where are your tax returns?
Your principles???? tax evasion???
Rub of the Green and Bill T - only in your small minds are your most anything but more nonsense from the far right. Had the Republicans in Congress actually done their jobs - instead of obstructing EVERYTHING that was proposed to move this country forward, our recovery would be much better.
Your bias is beyond belief and you have NOTHING to support Romney being anything but the absolutely nothing he is!
Obama/Biden 2012
Rub of the Green... The only thing crazy here is your post. "What fools we were in 08" Apparently things haven't changed much (for you).
Romney says voters know my principles now, yes we do and it starts with - Flip Flopper !!!!!!!!!!!
Liar, Clown, MORmOR, 1% mega rich, draft dodger, Ayn Rand, RyRand
Phony, job killer, GOP reject 2000, tax fraud, horse fraud, Vouchercare
Reaganomics, dismantle jobs to overseas, Cleansing Seniors, hiding
Desperate loser, Airhead fox retard, R & R depression, coward, Dog show !!!!
Chickenhawk, Monkeys brain, Empty Suit, Warmonger Rambo, Puppet
Cyberbully, I would throw up if I had to vote for this looney tune !!!!
Rub, I believe the saying goes "Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice, won't get fooled again'
I love when a right wing nut tells us to go watch a movie made by a foreigner that is full of disputed claims. If Obama is secretly sympathetic to jihadists, why has he killed so many of them? Also, the 'movie' claims he was heavily influenced by his Muslim father. His father left when he was two and Obama only saw him once since, when he was 10 years old. Obama has written that his Christian mother had a strong influence on him, not his absentee father.
I could go on and on, but the film deserves no real debate, as it is based on falsehoods by a foreign man with a grudge.
Lets clear things up:

We get our rights from Nature & God - NOT goverment!
Right on, right on Ryan!
Don't forget their other guiding principle 'We will not have this campaign run by fact checkers' 'Facts be damned!!'
It appears that neither you, Ryan or Romney are big fans of "Thou shall not bear false witness..."
Well Michael, I guess you don't abide by the Declaration of Independence, which Lincoln felt did a better job of outlining our rights than the Constitution, and I suppose you are an anarchist, like all libertarians. Nature by the way offers no rights beyond survival of the fittest, which fits right in with the republican party's line of "reasoning" This election is about the difference between living and survival. Republicans are all ready for survival against the coming zombie war with large stocks of automatic weapons and yummy mre's.
michael1969 We get our rights from Nature & God......
How does nature gives us rights?
Is there a god?
To rest one's case on faith means to concede that reason is on the side of one's enemies- that one has no rational arguments to offer. - Ayn Rand
Wow....and then all we hear from conservatives and the republicans is the words in the constitution and BILL OF RIGHTS!! Just what does nature and God have to do with the written documents that founded this nation. Talk about flip-flopping..either you want to stand behind the documents that define this nation, or you don't. Make up your minds!!
God gives you no rights, people are deprived of their rights all over the world and God never intervenes. People were bought and sold as the personal property of others for 165 years in the US, then deprived of their right to vote for about another 100 years. Make no mistake about it, your rights only come from the government you live under, the government grants them, and government protects them, or not, but God has never insured anybodys rights. The rights of any group of people are determined by the people governing them, God has never granted or protected anybodys rights. God did not intervene for slaves in America, God did not intervene for Jews in Nazi Germany and I could go on and on, God has never granted or insured anybodys rights at anytime or anyplace, we grant and protect our own rights through governments. What a silly bunch of crap Michael, and if that came from Ryan's mouth he is a freaking idiot.
If you value both your personal choice of a religion, and your government as set up in the constitution, you should vote straight democratic, if you value separation of church and state, vote straight democratic, because republicans have lost their freaking minds on so many levels it is not even funny anymore.
Its uninformed, ignorance like yours that this world is unfit for those that hold logic and reason above all else. It isn't reasonable to elect a person like Ryan who claims to be a "devout" catholic yet seems lying comes as easy to him as the lords prayer. It isn't logical to elect a man for president who can hold down a fellow student and attack him because he didn't look like everyone else, America is full of people who do not resemble each other. Romney is nothing but an ego driven individual who only seeks legitimacy and a legacy for his family name, he's not interested in doing the job. If you choose to believe in magic and myths that's fine I do not and as an American I have that right. I don't need people like you telling me where my rights come from. Unlike you I hold our Bill of Rights / Constitution above any make believe "god".
Well, nature tell me that I have the right to sneak up behind you, bop you on the head and eat you...God says the same thing only demands I say grace first.
I think I'll get my rights from government, thank you.
If we get our rights from God, where was he when slavery was part of this country's history, or women being denied the vote, or segregation? It was liberals fighting for the rights of all men against people like you and Paul Ryan who seek to limit, through the power of law, the rights of the lesser. Tool.
Geez Forrest, then why am paying god all these taxes????? And I never get a refund, or even a state of the universe address for that matter. What's he(she, it?) not telling us? Maybe Romney does know something about god because their approaches to governing seem very similar. Think I'll pass on both.
[We get our rights from Nature & God...]
Uhm no, we don't.
God has nothng to do with it, and nature is too cruel to care...just take a look in the mirror.
Don't mind Michael1969. That's his standard rinse and repeat line he uses on every article. Shhh, don't tell him otherwise. He thinks he's making a difference.
you are a lost soul filled with anger and un-patriotic remarkks about the president of the united states.
god doesnt want anything to do with government, he has his own kingdom. you know jesus said render to ceasar what is ceasars...
if you dont believe we recieve rights from our government which is we the people, then live in north korea.
mitt romney wants his actions to dictate what kind of preisdent he will be and how he will govern and i think that is very bold so lets look at his record. romney care the front runner for obama care, but wait its ok for the citizens of mass but not the united states? monies kept in off shore accounts, why? are we all to follow and put our monies in off shore accts? ships jobs overseas, how does that relate to building jobs in america? believes everyone is on their own? thats not even the principle this country was built on. thinks russia is our no. 1 enemy? wants to go to war with iran? havent we wasted enough lives and treasure? privitize government? perhaps the chinese can run our government?
we the people formed this government, which you make sound like a dictatorship, we the people elect our representatives because they repersent our ideals. mitt romneys business is to take companies which are dying and complete the mission, dismantling and selling off all asets, which many other companies also do. bain capital invested in many other companies with many other investors and he would like to claim that bain capital saved a paticular office supply company, but according to the record, bain capital was the smallest investor of four?
now, i've looked at his record, hes a nice family man, he has run his bain co following its guide lines of buy low, sell high, and if we can get our bain hands on the pension plan we'll take that too. so when bain keeps the pension plans the united state tax payer has to replace 1/2 so the pensioner gets screwed twice.
gov of mass and passes an outstanding health plan which people in mass love, and oh yes there is an individual mandate, if you dont buy you pay a fine! the same plan he says he will repeal, now how fair is that, citizens of mass get obame care and the rest of the country doesnt, now thats confusing. his record as a job creator, 47th out of 50 in job creation as govenor? i dont think theres any room to brag there, do you?
well, i could go on but you need to check his record and by the way i hope your not on medicare or social security, or your parents arent, because those people are really screwed, and unless your in the top 2% in this country your taxes are about to go up.
thats his record and thats his belief system, you be the judge and please keep an open mind, because there are so many men, women, and children who will lose their new insurance, that life saving operation, or just recieve enough help to put food on the table. god blees you.
Government does not give rights... However they may take them away, This country is owned by the citizens and not the federal government, The government works for the people and not the other way around.
I have scanned every single founding document of the United States government, an by golly, cannot find one that was penned by God or by Mother Nature. And to boot, their signatures are missing from any/all of them. If they alone are granters of rights, why are they so afraid to publish documents telling us otherwise?
Roney..............................show ...us...your ...taxes.....!
Prove you are not a lying tax dodging cheat!
Government ensures rights and protects them. That's why this country was founded in the first place. The US Constitution was like no other founding document in the world and it provided the impetus of our government and the relationship between government and the people. Government is a tool that can be used for good or harm - it's no different than fire. If used correctly it can keep you warm and provide cooked meals. Used irresponsibly it can destroy property and kill you. It all depends on who is handling the fire.
Romney doesn't have to prove anything....do you have to post your tax returns to the media every time you file.
I'm not running for President and asking people to just "trust" me. I don't trust people who say "trust" me.
The Consutitution limits the power of government, The Constitution was designed to protect the citizens of this country from an overbearing government, Government does not give rights, It only reduces them.
Michael...shows how misguided that mentality is...Humans are born with free will...they determine civilized and uncivilized behavior which engenders rights.
You can stow that BS about nature giving and God given rights. It's human conscience that determines right and wrong.
He does not have to prove anything, and as long as he does not prove anything people may believe whatever they wish about his personal dealings. If there was anything good in his tax returns that would help his campaign he would have released them, evidently what is in there is so bad that he must "take the fifth" and not show them. His refusal to show them is another big indicator of how phony this guy is, and that issue is not going away. It's real simple if you have nothing to hide, then don't hide them, if everything is so okie dokie then show them to the nation. They are not okie dokie politically or he would have shown them.
Actually Devonshire11 IF Romney wants to be believed he needs to show the same amount of tax returns that every other presidential candidate has shown since his OWN FATHER began the tradition of putting forth 12 years of returns to the public!
He won't and he's taking an incredible amount of heat for it so that makes me VERY VERY suspicious that there is something in those returns that he DEFINITELY doesn't want the public to know!
Compounding that secrecy is the fact that he ALSO had 11 of his top aides buy up 17 state hard disks and destroy them at the end of his MA governor stint. NO OTHER governor has EVER did that to hide his emails before either!! Suspicious.... you betcha!!
Interesting. Since you exclaimed this, as if it were a fact, please explain two things:
1. Exactly how does NATURE give us rights? And, what are the specific rights that NATURE has given us?
2. Prove this GOD creature exists. And then, tell me which Cult GOD is the actual GOD you are referring to, and explain to us which rights this GOD creature (whose existence you have provided conclusive evidence for) has given us.
Take your time. We'll wait. And please, when providing proof/evidence for #2, please understand what "conclusive" means (ie it DOESN'T mean: "look at a rainbow. that's proof of Gawd!" -- which is what so many of your ilk fall back on...)
And yet, the Government via the constitution granted Catholics, women and blacks the right to vote. Blacks were given equal rights to whites by the Government via the Constitution. The claim doesn't hold water.
Mitt has principles???
I get it - outsourcing jobs to make personal gain with Bain.
The government is the people. You see, in most everything you do, you need guidelines or rules that must be followed to ensure success. So saying the government doesn't set the rules is the same as saying it's a free for all. I think that's called anarchy. We do not want to go there, now do we? And correct me if I'm wrong, but did not the Continental Congress set the standard with The Bill of Rights? I think they did.
Nice Republican/evangelical/Tea Party talking point but a truly debatable topic...without the federal/state/local governments around to enforce the rules of law to guarantee that you are able to exercise those inherent rights we enjoy as Americans, you'd really have nothing but chaos.
Is "nature" going to enforce those rights for you? Is God? If so, exactly...how?
Yea MITT, where are those TAX RETURNS ? We haven't forgotten about them and we will hound you until election day, so fess up !
10 YEARS PLEASE !
You will not win unless you release!
Come on Mitt you can do it, show us you are not a low life scum bag the democrats say you are SHOW US THE RETURNS !
Funny how the people in Somalia, South Africa and Namibia don't seem to get too many rights from those sources, eh?
Speaking of returns.... the election is less than 60 days away, even sooner in early voting states, and Romney still has yet to release his 2011 tax returns....
And he is asking us to trust him based on principals rather than details?
I don't think so....
Smoke n mirrors will not get you into office Romney. You still have NO PLAN to explain to the American people. We cannot afford to vote for this type of illusion. America demands a plan of action especially those whom barely even know who you are. No, you will not get our vote. We cannot afford to waste it on the bulk of Americans whom depend on getting a job. One that exist in this country, not overseas.
Ray in Jax... Right on. "The devil is in the details."
Gov. Romney still hasn't said how he intends to reach these goals. I hope to hear specifics in the debates.
Analysis shows that it is simply not mathematically possible for any detailed plan to meet all of Mitt's promises or principles. That's why Mitt cannot offer a specific plan, and will have no new details for the debates. He's always at his most evasive when under fire.
Well, we have have a good idea that it will not involve arithmetic.
I cannot wait for the debates, President Obama will wipe the floor with Romney. I saw the debate between Romney and Kennedy and Kennedy ate him for lunch. It was awesome.
Better pack a lunch then. He hasn't been specific on anything as of yet. Exception is that he will keep the Bush tax cuts intact. Good for his rich corporate buddies, bad for you and me.
Moderator: Governor Romney, your turn for rebuttle to President Obamas answer
Governor Romney, BUT, BUT, BUT, BUT ,BUT, BUT, BUT ,BUT,
Ha ha ha ha...we are 3 years 9 months into Obamas term and he still has not told us what he will do to fix the economy, All he keeps saying is tax the rich, Pay your fair share and give me another 4 years....Oh and I forgot ...free condoms for Sandra Fluke
Sorry but That is not working, Time for President Obama to go.
Hey Lost what are you smoking? You should share.
Lost, are you still denying the (well documented) obstructionism by the Republicans and the Tea Party? Their number ONE (and only) goal was to ensure NO RECOVERY, no matter how badly the US or US Citizens suffered. That, my uninformed friend is TREASON. " it is considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government."
Snappa you need to pull your head out of obumbos a$$ and get some oxygen to your brain!
I just watched the debate on c-span and Romney kicked Ted "I killed Mary Jo Kopechne" Kennedy's A$$!!!
Romney was decisive and clear and made Killer look like an amateur!!!
http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/09/13759896-romney-voters-can-look-to-principles-for-sense-of-how-hed-govern?pc=25&sp=75#
Ticked off - were you smoking funny cigarettes when you watched the debate between Kennedy and Romney? That's the ONLY way anyone would think Romney won anything.
He looked as foolish as possible. But, President Obama will reduce the little Mitts to tears. Be ready for the "deer in the headlight" look that Romney does so often.
Obama/Biden 2012
PRINCIPAL? I don't know whether to laugh or cry! The sheer hypocrisy of this ANTI CHRIST is overwhelming! There hasn't been but one thing Romney has ever done consistently, HE HAS TOLD LIES HIS WHOLE LIFE, AND NOW HE ACTUALLY BELIEVES THEM. He wants YOU to believe them also. I wonder what his "elders" in the church thinks of his "offshore money accounts"? I wonder if they think THEY were shortchanged by Mitt's UNDERSTATEMENT OF HIS INCOME! PRINCIPAL is the weakness these predators exploit in honest people. Since THEY have none it is easy to fleece unsuspecting people of their company's and livelihoods FOR THEIR OWN GRATIFICATION. And now this "principled" actor suggests 4 years of honest service by our president ACTUALLY TRYING TO GET REPUBLICRAP PARTICIPATION IN THE PROCESS OF RUNNING THIS COUNTRY only to be laughed at by the republicrap leadership. THEIR AGENDA FROM EVEN BEFORE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE WAS TO DENY HIM THE COOPERATION IN SOLVING THE PROBLEMS REPUBLICRAPS CREATED. Mr Romney and Mr Ryan are the mouth pieces of 26 billionaires, NOT YOU OR I!!!!!! Make no mistake, these people will not work to putting us back to work HERE IN AMERICA, not until WE WORK FOR THE SAME WAGES AS THE CHINESE DO. Kiss good-by to decent workplaces, decent wages, decent health care, decent environment, decent ANYTHING IMAGINABLE, THE PROFIT MOTIVE WILL PERMEATE EVERY DECISION TO BE MADE. You and I will be worked like the Egyptian slaves were building testaments for their kings (corporate masters). Dog eat dog, fend for yourself, attitude doe not work in todays society, one thing is certain the have's will not keep what they have when everyone else is without hope.
Romney says he will need eight years or more for his promises to help why does he think Obama should have done it in four. He is making more promises than Obama did in 2008 and he will succeed in keeping less of them .
Looks like the GOP won't be giving Romney a day off from performing their new tap-dance - the Romney Shuffle - Guaranteed Obtuse Answers Every Time!
I see it has again been followed by the Republicans' new line dance - Ask Me After The Election!
Obama 2012!
You won't get ANY details in the debates from Romney... he won't release any... if he did, his own party wouldn't elect him....
Maybe someone can explain what "principles" were involved, when Romney took his college classmate down, and forcibly cut his hair, and when he strapped his dog to the roof of the car and drove hundreds of miles? What kind of "principles" did he exercise, when buying corporations, taking money out, and bankrupting them, leaving the employees without jobs? What kind of "principles" does he exercise, when not condemning Mormon Prophet, Warren Jeffs, when he was convicted of having sex with 12 year old girls, and having 79 "wives"?
Considering how evasive and secretive Romney is in his campaign, we can see how secretive and evasive he'd be as President. I find his elitist "you don't need to know" attitude very troubling. He seems to think he's running for regent, not President.
You mean "you people"...lol
It's the mushroom farming approach. Keep um in the dark and feed um sh!t. Who would have imagined that people don't like to be treated as fungus? Go figure... Oh wait...that would imply the use of math. Never mind.
Romney has already shown us how he governs, and it is far from transparent. Look at all of the documents he refused to turn over to the state when he left. He also sold off computers with hard drives containing data that belonged to the people of Massachusetts.
Almost reminds me of Bush and Chenney fighting to keep the white house visitor log secret, even though the records are supposedly public property. And the millions of email that were deleted and Chenney's destroyed documents....
trust me? hardly Mitt....
The Dems have a party and the NATIONAL DEBT hits $$$16 TRILLION..they can not even count all the zeros in that crazy number!!...talk about a National DISASTER!!! Have Jimmy Fallon explain how many somollians, claims, bucks, dough, bread, etc that is to our baby -minded obama!! THE BABY Obama DOES NOT WANT MORE JOBS, MORE ECONOMY GROWTH!!!
obama says he would grade himself 'incomplete'...in my school that was an ..F !! You did not try, you Failed !! Again, twist the truth. Chicago MOBpolitics!!
How many" black chidder-rhen "were murdered while Rahm spoke??!! Another great leader..NOT!!
Like Eastwood said, We the people hired you, you have not done the job, now it is time to Fire you!!
Mouchweelll talked about a rusty beat -up car that Barry Soetoro drove while they were dating, and tried to make it sound OK that with high gas prices and no jobs , Americans can not drive at all!!..Her dad made the equivalent of $$300K in the 70’s and they let their daughter get in such a rust heap??.DOES NOT EQUATE!!!..Danger, /Danger Will Robinson!!!
obama had shoes too small??? He was working for a law firm in Chicago..SaY WHAT?!!! Why are both obamas disbarred?!! Lavish vacations at tax payer expense and $$500 tennis shoes!!!??talk about her big beer arms and nothing about her LARGE french-fry rear!!
She did not say what conversations she 'valued' from Barry's father, Frank M. Davis, the Marxist pornographer in Hawaii. Dreams of my father....or of Barry's brother George still living in a hut in Kenya!!
Dems take GOD out of their platform, of course, obama is the messiah, why look to a faith-filled God??
they read letters from the peasants while they feast at the tax funded, Chief prepared expensive meals..regular Americans could not afford one of those meals a year, much less nightly!! talk about how bad We the PEOPLE have it, REALLY!!.. Let them EAT cake, right?!! where does Mr. Prez get his news?? On the golf course while drinking with Biden?!! If they were to tell the truth, it should have been, people are writing to the Prez. about how he has dismantled the Middle-Class, ruined the economy, people a losing homes and jobs, HE needs to STOP what he is doing!!
it looked like the podium was a wash tub for all their dirty undies/socks/stained blue dresses, but with SWIMMING Ted Kennedy ,they made it clear that it represents the ill-gotten money the progressive-marxists are famous for looting----bootlegging, tax evasion, ballot- box stuffing (LBJ&JFK),gun running, Treasury looting, drug cartels, prostitution( ala Clinton&JFK) Mob connected jimmy Hoffa unions, the true 1%ers of the USA!!!! SOBER UP!!!
if libs care about our troops , why are they put in jail for voicing their dislike of this presidency?? why are they still in Arab countries being murdered by those they are protecting, why are more deployed every day?? Why were they not home for Christmas as obama promised!!??.Why is Defense funding being cut?!! ……why was NASA destroyed!!??
It just does NOT matter how well you give the teleprompter speech...the glaring fact is she knows it is a lie and we know it is lie...
IT IS THE ECONOMY STUPID!!!..and BozoHussan has done nothing to fix it in 4 years!!! ONLY made it much WORSE!!!
"Mitt Romney argued Sunday that voters should have enough of a sense of his principles to have confidence in how he'd handle the nitty-gritty details of taxes, spending and health care as president."
EXACTLY. Let's start off with the fact that his core principles seem to include some groups of Americans -- women, the poor, the ill, the elderly -- are unimportant. But he would do his best to help the White and Wealthy.
Here is another liar. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
joe thomas Here is another liar^^^^^
You speak so well of yourself. Troll
Hey Joe Blow. Still haven't answered my question from two nights ago. What, no answers? So why are you here, to support Mitt Romney or just troll? Please, answer one question, will ya?
@tonybeeerm
LOL - Thanks for the laugh, I guess Joe IS Romney/Ryan disciple - cleverly (not) evading the questions you pose!
Joe Thomas, why do you even bother to post?
Romney has no principles..........so he would govern without them.
You're probably right DarkAngel....but from what Mitt's said, and what I've heard....he hasn't shown us anything of substance to really judge him on. No real direction or goal. Most of what he spews is 'Obama, Obama, Obama....'; Mitt doesn't have a plan other than to generate the base more against B.O. That's not much of a plan, that I can see. If he gets to the WH, he'll be totally lost.
Obama isn't perfect, but to vote for Romney, is simply voting blindly and unknowingly.
Agreed, Willard has no principles. If I were a conservative candidate, I would book an interview with David Gregory every week. How could Gregory not ask "Mr. Romney, can you please spell out how your health care plan would differ from Obamacare when it is the same plan?" Also Gregory allowed Willard to get away without offering one specific loophole. Time to admit the Gregory experiment is a failure and get someone with a pair to ask the tough questions.
hmm, so we all get blind trusts and offshore tax havens?
If you get off your fat butt and work, you just might have a little success. Sitting around waiting for the government to steal from your neighbor and give it to you will never make you successful.
Tick tock Little Joey...tick tock...
Dude is putting in some serious O/T this weekend, while he still can! ☺
Joe quoting FOX news doesn't exactly help with whatever argument you mean to present. Exactly who are you speaking of? Who is sitting around waiting? I've been working for over 21 years and waiting isn't an option.
@Joe
I'll match work history any day
haven't been out of a job since I was 16
paid every single penny of my taxes too
Looking at my pay stub right now, 21.7% tax rate
Having worked all my life since the 60's, I owned my own business, have never received welfare, food stamps or even unemployment I'm amazed when republicans claim they're the only ones who pay taxes and the only ones with the right to determine how those taxes are spent. We tried Reagan's trickle down and my taxes went up $5,000 a year while millionaires saved $350,000 for every million in income with dropping the top rate from 70% to 35%. Romney's never paid over 14% in taxes so dropping the top rate from 35% to 25% and eliminating capital gains would clearly lower his rate to near zero. I'd love for any republican to explain how such a plan is right or fair.
What principles? Oh Romneyhood means Lies & more Lies!!!
He is banking on all the white racists coming out to support him and voter suppression to win.
White Floridian
Well the PA House Majority Leader, Mike Turzai, has already said in a speech to the house up there that "..voter laws while will allow Mitt Romney to win PA, DONE!" That's all the new Jim Crow laws are about and it's still not working according to the polls.
That's just about the most damning thing he could have said about himself. Fake human that he is.
As for specifics Romney said : trust me. Oh my
Principals? What Principals, tax Avoidance, Tax Shelters, here's how you can show us your principals MITT Show us the TAX RETURNS
Where are those TAX RETURNS ? We haven't forgotten about them and we will hound you until election day, so fess up !
10 YEARS PLEASE !
You will not win unless you release!
Come on Mitt you can do it, show us you are not a low life scum bag the democrats say you are SHOW US THE RETURNS !
We only have ONE year of Mitt Romney's tax returns. One very well vetted document that was produced when he knew he was running for President.
I guarantee you his 2011 return will be similarly sanitized when he finally presents it.
What we need to see are the returns from years that weren't show documents. Give us the real ones, Mitt!
Romney?? PRINCIPLES! I watched Romney for 4 years over in MA ( actually 2 1/2 yrs, he took his last 18 months off to run for POTUS). The man HAS no political principles. He's done more flipping than IHOP!! Romney becomes whatever is needed politically at any given moment. When running against Ted K. for senator, he said he'd be to the LEFT of Kennedy on gay rights! He was pro-choice when he was governor!
Dont believe me?? Here's a compilation by the Teabagger affiliate in MA.
http://www.massresistance.org/romney/ <== The Mitt Romney Report
Look for him to be fact checked thruout the remainder of the campaign!!
Agreed.. I'm from Mass, and Romney was nowhere to be found the last 2 years of his "principled" stewardship of the Commonwealth
I'll defend Romney, sort of. A weather vain operates by a physical principal. A chameleons skin changes color based on a biological principal. To say he has no principals is just wrong. They are just not any kind of principals we want anywhere near the Whitehouse, but he has them....
I am from Mass too.. he did a great job.. actually balanced the budget..something this President has not done which is unconstitutional by the way.. God help us if the loons here represent America..and to the crazy stating that Bill Maher made Dinesh look stupid- you sound like an idiot.. Bill Maher is a hater monger who is not even remotely funny and a compete moron... you probably did not see the movie- it was based on FACTS and everything in it can be verified and checked.. he gives his interpretation of the facts and you can make yours.. but most here have not even seen it and did not do any of the research- you just blindly repeat what Obama tells you and do not think for yourself.
Reaganomics Vs. Obamanomics: Facts And Figures - Forbes
Your principles? Like the one where you're transparent with the American people and show us your tax returns?
His principle is "the weak deserve to be destroyed".
Hey Sue, post your tax returns. hahahahahahahaha
She's not running for president.
joe thomas Hey Sue post your tax returns. hahaha............
joe your quite the jacker, sorry I meant joker.
Joe, IF Sue were running for the presidency I would EXPECT her to put out 12 years of her tax returns just as every other candidate EXCEPT Mitt has done ever since his OWN FATHER started the tradition all those years ago!
Don't post lies. Not all candidates have posted 12 years. Most have posted 2. As I understand it, they are not required to post them at all. Most do though.

Kristine - wrong. Many candidates post a minimum of 5 years with 10 years being the most common practice. As Mitt's father - who released 12 years of tax returns said - 1 or 2 years is not enough. They can just be a fluke!
Obama/Biden 2012
No candidate for President in the last 30 years has released fewer than 5 years of tax records.
Romney knew this when he started running and still refuses to release his.
Something smells.
President Obama has released 11 years of tax returns. Eight when he was running for President, and three in the years since.
And for good reason.
Can you imagine the Republicans saying to Obama, "Never mind, Mr. President, we don't need to see your tax returns." ?????
H Y P O C R I T E S
I have to conclude that the government of my country would function in absolute secrecy. That's his foremost principle: don't tell ANYBODY ANYTHING.
Well...he did tell us something...
COSTCO shirts come 3 in a pack!
He hates store bought cookies that commoners eat.
Corporations are people too my friend...
That qualifies him in republicons minds to be president huh?
"I say we're going to replace Obamacare," Romney said. "And I'm replacing it with my own plan. And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people."
Here is a newsflash for you Willard, according to the architect of Romneycare "it is the same f-----g bill." How Gregory missed the obvious followup is mind boggling.
starsailing - Jay Leno had the best line on the Costco fiasco - "Mitt wants us to think the Romney's know all about Costco. Well, he did buy 3 of them!"
Obama/Biden 2012
The children of the left went romping through the forest until they came to a meadow. In the meadow, they played in the flowers, took naps, and then played some more.
Eventually, they became hungry. They looked around the meadow, and there, on the far side, was a single republican. He was growing food for his family.
Since they were hungry, and he had food, all the children on the left ran across the meadow and demanded food. The republican farmer, interested in the general good welfare for all, offered to feed the children, but kept the largest share for his family.
The children of the left were not satisfied. It wasn't fair he had more food than they, and they didn't care the farmer had raised the food to feed his family. They beat the crap out of the farmer, and took his food.
except that Romney is the one who beats the crap out of people. And, using your analogy, he already has enough food to eat like a king for the rest of his life.
If you are saying that Romney lives in a fairy tale world, you are correct !!
wow, how's the weather in fantasy land?
WOW! Where do you people come up with crap like this? What gives you the Idea that the "left" always wants to "take" from others? Your portrait of the republican as "growing" his own food is most laughable and egregious. Republicans don't do things for themselves they steal it. Wall St, Banks I suppose most of these institutions are run by left wing people? Is this what your saying? To the right its easier to steal what isn't yours than share it.
Yep just I thought, too many dumb Americans who dont check the facts. The facts are, the country is not doing well at all with what we have. He is driving us into the ground. Cutting jobs, Closing factories, No jobs on the horizon. I cant wait until we fall. See those people come running to my house, I dont think so, those that dont want to work at all. Those that only have their hands out. Romney can run this country. We have a foreigner running it now, running it into the ground. Open your eyes.
Rick - the stupidity about the "foreigner running" our country says all there is to say about you - none of it good.
Commonamerican - the fact that you keep spouting the lies of the far right shows you have no commonsense and probably a pretty low IQ. "Liberals" work as much or more than the radical right. So, get over the nonsense. You just look totally ignorant when you spout that stupidity!
Obama/Biden 2012
"commonsense" has been watching too much "Reefer Madness".
You left out a few things in your story about the children on the left.
1. They were playing because all the schools were shut down because the Romney administration quit funding public education.
2. The children's fathers were overseas working for the companies where all the jobs were outsourced to.
3. Many of the children were orphans because their mothers could not afford the private healthcare and were not allowed to make their own decisions about their healthcare and many died of cancer.
But it is still a nice fairy tale.
@ common left the sense out on purpose thats another republican fairy tale.
Principles? The only principle Romney knows is the principles and interest he gets on his offshore bank accounts. Why anyone would vote for a Presidential candidate who keeps his money out of his own country is crazy. The man ruined many Republican lives in about 5 states. The Pro Gingrich video was excellent and it shows just how this clown is. For those that have an open mind, they can Google the video. It's called "When Mitt Romney Came to Town". He's heartless.
October 15th, Mitt will have to give up his second year of tax info.
Reality of this article is that the wrong word/spelling was used. Mitts will be looking to the "PRINCIPALS" as to how he will be governing!
Voters can look to 'principles' for sense of how he'd governPRINCIPALS of Corporations
Principles? PRINCIPLES?? This lying scumbag corporate thug HAS NO "principles." This is his whole problem, he has no convictions, integrity, or morals AT ALL, NONE!
This piece of taxidermy Romney only releases two years' worth of income taxes, hides money, got rich on destroying American businesses, shipped jobs overseas, promotes subjugation of American women, has a running mate who looks like a serial killer and thinks like a Brownshirt... and he's babbling about principles?
Pardon me while I vomit in my mouth a little bit.
Is this tool serious. A 30 yr old man who straps is dog to the roof of a car, and 30 yrs later when he's had time to mature and grow still thinks it's funny and the dog liked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Principles, come on dude.
Obama ate his dog. Now that is progress and a man filled with principles!
Joe
You got some thing to prove that or did you just upchuck another limpballs 1 liner lies.
So eating a dead dog when it is served to you as a child is worse than abusing a live one when you are an adult Joe? Is your mind really THAT twisted?
Here's the main point everyone is missing...In 1980 when Reagan became President and cut taxes the Boomers (majority of US population) were 32 years younger than today. They were in their mid-30's and starting new businesses, hiring employees, etc. and trickle down worked. Today those same boomers are retiring. To cut taxes on the wealthy is just stupid, retired boomers do not start businesses or hire employees. They are SELLING their businesses, firing employees and retiring. Accordingly, the wealthy will NOT contribute to the jobs market and do not deserve a tax break.
To increase jobs, all Fortune 500 companies should hire 500 employees each (what an improvement to customer service that would be). The trickle down effects will cause smaller companies to hire, etc. THAT is how you get the economy working, NOT tax cuts for those who do not need them.
To balance the budget, add a 40% tax rate on income in excess of $1 million.
Trickle Dow did not work then. I was there, I remember.
One principle Republicans share is that government should not pick winners and losers.
So a tax deduction on home mortgages for everyone would have to go. After all, it favors people who borrow money over people who pay cash to buy a house, or rent a house.
crop insurance programs would have to go because it pays the premiums of farmers...and not the premiums of other small business owners.
farm subsidies would have to go because it favors farmers over manufacturers, say.
charitable giving deduction would have to go. Why is government paying people to give
child income credit and deductions will be phased out. That benefits those who have more children. Childless couples get no such benefit.
Problem in voting for Romney is he refuses to tell us which deductions would be phased out..until AFTER he is elected...when it's too late take your vote back
Yes, he was very principled when he sent thousands of American jobs overseas, lined his pockets with the profits, refused to pay taxes on it, and then accepted the IRS amnesty offer of 2009. Very principled when he protested against the Vietnam War protesters, then was a multiple draft dodger himself. The only thing he said true in this interview is that it is very easy to look at what he's done to see how he'd be as president. Crystal clear.
What jobs did he send overseas? How did he dodge the draft? What IRS "rules" has he broken?
Blamo........go have a currents events sandwich for lunch and digest it before you post again.
Just because he is slick enough to find loopholes in the law, does not mean he is not lying, cheating and stealing. The only Americans he wants to help are those billionaires who are giving him hundreds of millions for the purposes of gaining even more wealth, control and power.
Obama couldn't get it done in four years, but I can do it in eight - Mitt Romney
The point is Mitt, You don't have any principles.....they seem to change depending on the poll data.
NBC needs to dump David Gregory. He is sad excuse for a replacement to Tim Russert. He spent half his time kissing up to the candidate with softball questions and his follow ups were pathetic. We needed answers from Romney and Gregory failed to get us any. He let Romney sidestep all the important issues.
Your right. David Gregory is a sad replacement for Tim Russert. I watched part of the interview, it was sad. When Rmoney gave answers there was no follow up questions to Rmoney's lame answers. Get someone who not pander to his guests.
Gregory is one of the main reasons why CNN is at the bottom of the ratings, the other reason is Wolf Blitzer. Neither can ask a solid follow-up question nor challenge a statement that is obviously false. They both flunk Journalism 101. BTW, another "softballer" is Candi Crowley who moderating one of the three debates.
Smitty
You are so right. Romney just gave evasive answers and he says he can't balance the budget his first term but could do it on his second term, what a crock. He criticizes the President for not balancing the budget his first term. What a liar and a fake. Romney needs to look at his record as a failure as the worst Governor of MA. He wants to start another war with Iran. Hasn't this country had enough of the two wars and now one. How many more life's do we lose. He wants to reverse the women's choice on planned parenthood. This man can not be elected for the future of our daughters!!! He doesn't worry about the country, just himself and his fake wife. What a liar. David Gregory just listened and never called him on anything, what a fake David Gregory and you call yourself a journalist!!!!!
the only way Gregory could get Willard on MTP is to promise not to ask him any hard questions and not follow up on his lies. I'd guess the questions Gregory did ask were submitted by Willard. Why anyone watches MTP with David Gregory is beyond me. Meet the Press is a sad excuse for journalism. It should be Meet the Panderer.
Sounds more like Obama. The media has given him a pass on all issues. According to the media, Obama can do no wrong. What a joke!
You're absolutely right. But it's not just David Gregory. Most of the so called journalists do the same thing. Refusing to demand truth and accuracy. They allow these frauds to spew all their lies and do not call them out on it, therefore endorsing the lie.
Kristine - your posts show the real joke is you.
Obama/Biden 2012
David Gregory is afraid of his own shadow. Always has been, always will be.
I am afraid we are going to get the same type of lightweight, softball questions from Candy Crowley during the debates as well. For whatever reason they are afraid to hold Bishop Romney's feet to the fire yet they have no problem asking the tough questions to Obama.
nbc.com : bias anyone? Day after day you have front page headline stories and photos of Romney or Ryan. You highlight their platform more than Obama's. I am sick of looking at pics of Romney and Ryan. I detest them and wish to receive more comprehensive, fairer coverage by dedicating more of your prime space to Obama.
Single, I understand your feelings; I detest Obama and his policies and political philosophy. Let's just tax more, spend more, and not worry about the deficit this country has. Oh yes, Obama calls it 'investment', just like he did for the stimulus; $800B bailout for GM and the various unions. Did he 'invest' in infrastructsure; roads, ect...NO!! Remember 'shovel ready jobs' and his admission later that 'I guess there were not that many shovel ready jobs, ha-ha'!! Finally, are you kidding me; the POTUS doesn't get 'enough' media coverage. You've got NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, varous cable channels all in the tank for Obama, talking positively about him all the time; how he's the 'saviour' of the country, ect. Give me a break.
And on the GOP side you have Rupert Murdoch.
Who do you trust more? Rupert? Really?
And on the Dem side you have George Soros.
Who do you trust more? George Soros? Really?
NJ John:
Since when did George Soros own and operate a news channel and numerous newspapers?
And on the gop side you have the koch bro's,
Who do you trust more? koch bro's? Really?
Yeah, I haven't ever read a news article by George Soros.
Soros has not donated a fraction of what the criminally indicted Koch Brothers and Adelson have given Romney/Ryan. All of president Obama's donors are on the record, none of the secret black money donations to Romney are available ( thank you right wing reactionary Supreme 5! ).
Ladies, what did your mothers tell you about the smiling guy who said "Trust me"?
Gentlemen, what did your daddies tell you about the smiling guy who offered you a "great deal" and said "trust me"?
Enough said.
And yet you all fell for that in 2008.
Kristine - no, we voted for the best candidate in 2008 and will do it again in 2012. Don't you remember John McCain - "our country has no economic problems" then he stopped his campaign to run back to Washington because by golly we DID have problems??
Obama/Biden 2012
Test
I really cannot understand what world the anti Obama folks live in. If you say he is more liberal than I am. He has not been able to do many of the things he promised then you have ground to stand on. I don't see how you can say we are worse off. You would need amnesia to not recall how scary 2008 was. The Dow was under 8000. People were taking money out of there 401K's. We were not sure if we were looking at a depression. We had two wars which had failed and had cost trillions (and someone was fired for estimating 250 Billion). GM and chrysler were not viable. Banks were folding. We were shedding 25000 jobs a day. Housing had bust. There was no credit to be had. Things are still tough. This isn't a US problem, it is a worldwide problem and only a simpleton would think that this is something that anyone man can fix. Sure there was some unrealistic Obama adulation but he never said I am superman, people were looking for a change from the rot we had. Is he perfect? Far from it. I think he should cut and run ASAP in Afghanistan (but the Reps and the military would attack for that). I'd close Gitmo ASAP and I would ridicule anyone who said that we can't handle these folks in a super max prison, they are not super heroes. The Reps decided on day 0 that they would not work with him. The "Rush" to label a failure stared in the 2nd week. The problems weren't all Bush. The public was living above their means for decades. Not just washington which people like to say, the public. No easy fix for this long time coming correction. Obama has done OK, not great. Less regulation and lower taxes sure as hell isn't going to fix it.
Dear Dabouv,
All you need to know about the anti-Obama people is that no matter what Obama says or does, he's not white. That's it. He represents a paradigm shift away from a world run by old white men who use fundamentalist desert religion as a weapon. Period.
Republican TeaBilly Conservatives are willing to Ruin the Country and Sacrifice the Economy until they can get back in Power. Why do you think they have been the Party of No for so long.
“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” ~Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader, (R-Ky.), October 2010
Eric Cantor is still da Biggest “Weasel in Politics”.
John Boehner is One Real Big “Puzzy”.
Wouldn’t Mitch McConnell make da Perfect “Turtle Head”?
You BetCha….Fer Sure.
Non sequitur
Rommey details his Healthcare Plan..
Repeal Obamacare ,day one, and replace it with Obamacare.
Actually, if you watch the video, you can hear what Romney says. He says he agrees with Obama's decision to let GM go into bankruptcy, but he would have done it 6 months sooner.
I'm still voting for Obama, because Romney doesn't give any specifics, and I still want to see his tax returns.
They want Obama out because he a socialist with failed policies that is expanding our national debt at an alarming rate. He believes America is an Imperilistic country who has stolen, not created it's weath. Even if they are dead wrong they have a right to express their views. Liberals are only outraged when the views expressed do not reflect their own. Tough @!$%#!
NJRep
Who are THEY? Obama will win and hopefully they get the House back and hold on to the Senate and we can actually move on from the Republican created nightmare.
George Bush who???
