You'd think after the beating the GOP took in 2008, they would have learned that social media is important to any candidate. But, not so.
However, if you look at the demographics of their supporters you'll see why. The GOP convention was seriously lacking young people. The party is effectively dying and there is really no way out unless they find a way to appeal to today's youth.
My guess is the Democratic convention will be very different. You'll see the faces of young supporters everywhere throughout the convention floor.
Since the young can't find jobs due to this administration's incompetence on the economy, the unemployed youth have little else to do.
And here I thought the government didn't create jobs.
Exactly what is the private sector planning to do with those trillions of dollars of cash they are holding in reserve, and why couldn't they do it now?
Anna, the government doesn't create private sector jobs, on that we agree.
What the government can do is create an atmosphere of confidence. Doing so, business will be willing to take a risk and reinvest and hire.
Obama fosters uncertainty and continues to show himself anti business. He creates an atmostphere of incompetence.
No confidence in this president, the still uncertain costs of Obamacare, awaiting his next attack on the private sector, will cause business will hang to its money as long as possible.
And Sanity, there were plenty of young at the RNC. Perhaps in your blind allegiance to a failed president, you just didn't see them.
commonamerican1 - you couldn't be more wrong. President Obama has done a great deal to help foster confidence in the private sector - which is why over 2 million jobs have been added in the private sector.
And, if the GOP hadn't sat on his jobs bill each time it was presented there would be more. He has proposed tax increases for companies that continue to outsource their jobs overseas and tax breaks for companies bringing jobs back. But, the GOP refuses to even present the proposal.
All you've got is lies - try something valid for a change!
What the government can do is create an atmosphere of confidence. Doing so, business will be willing to take a risk and reinvest and hire.
Oh, pish. They haven't done it during periods of repatriated profits, like 2005, so why would we think they'd do it now.
And what more confidence do they need with trillions of dollars in the bank?
They'll make money, all right -- the same way they're making it now. Why do you think the DOW is so high while unemployment is also so high? The new capitalists are proving that they don't need workers -- at least not workers in THIS country -- to make money anymore.
And if President Obama loses, they no doubt expect that they can take even more off the backs of the American worker to keep for themselves.
No confidence in this president, the still uncertain costs of Obamacare, awaiting his next attack on the private sector, will cause business will hang to its money as long as possible.
Yes, indeed. God forbid that people should have access to health care.
After all, unregulated fracking is much better for their health than Obamacare, any six days of the week.
AM: They'll make money, all right -- the same way they're making it now. Why do you think the DOW is so high while unemployment is also so high? The new capitalists are proving that they don't need workers -- at least not workers in THIS country -- to make money anymore
That's right. The business climate elsewhere is much better than in the US. Businesses, like customers, take their business elsewhere when they need to do so, especially the ones that can like Apple and GE. Modernization and the ability to do things globally has made this a fact around the world. It's time the US competed in that environment, and it's time the government, which is stuck in the ways and days of running post offices, allows businesses to do so.
AM: Yes, indeed. God forbid that people should have access to health care.
Now we're back to the pension debate. So what do you do when the money runs out and no one has access to health care? You have a contract you say? Well that's wonderful, and what is the contract worth when you're bankrupt? Here's what it looks like in one one country that has gone broke:
JAS1: Maybe the business shouldn't make contracts it cannot fulfill. Because personally I don't see why the execs who made said contracts get to keep their millions / billions while those who should have been paid (i.e. pensions) lose it all. If the ship goes down, we all go down together. But that's my 2c.
It's time the US competed in that environment, and it's time the government, which is stuck in the ways and days of running post offices, allows businesses to do so.
There's a fine line between competing, and lowering our standards to do so. I for one am not ready to see regulations like clear air take a back seat so somebody can make a buck. In addition, do we really want to see workers live on wages that are paid in Asia?
So what do you do when the money runs out and no one has access to health care?
Well, we're not exactly talking about "pensions," but for two things, I'd get rid of private sector health insurance companies which merely suck profits off the top without adding any value to health care, and I'd make health care providers take a little less, like they do in other countries. They're doctors, not gods.
When President Obama tried to do that with those $716 billion in "cuts" to Medicare -- i.e., by eliminating inefficiencies and getting rid of insurers who charged too much for Medicare Advantage -- look what happened.
Hooray for profit!! Boo for health care!!
Still sucks to be you, JoAnna.
I'd say have a nice afternoon, but after that venomous garbage you posted at First Thoughts, I wouldn't really mean it.
Xabre: JAS1: Maybe the business shouldn't make contracts it cannot fulfill.
I'm all for that. How do you suggest that be done? Please include some words on governments making contracts with public workers pensions that they cannot fulfill in your answer.
Xabre: There's a fine line between competing, and lowering our standards to do so.
Agreed again. But to do so we have to find a way to both be competitive and not restrictive, a fine balance to be sure. Certainly we don't have that balance today.
AM: I'd get rid of private sector health insurance companies which merely suck profits off the top without adding any value to health care,
An admirable proposal. But if not private sector health insurance, what of the government running it? Again with the post office analogy, the government hasn't exactly been the best at providing services by moving to and using modern technology. The government is stuck in the 19th century of a 21ist century world, much more concerned about the unionization of its workers than providing a good reliable services at competitive prices to their customers. You can see the validity of this concern, yes?
AM: and I'd make health care providers take a little less, like they do in other countries. They're doctors, not gods.
Well, that's an interesting proposal. Interesting that you single out one field of workers to have their pay regulated, but aren't interested in doing so to any other group. Tort reform anyone? They're lawyers, not gods.
Too funny. I'm not a trial lawyer. What do I care if Tax Man is left comatose in a botched operation and you have to work 3 jobs to pay for round-the-clock care for him?
That's your problem, JoAnna. And just remember that lawyers caused it.
Not pertinent. Apparently you're not a doctor either. Tort reform or not?
And what other professions pay do you want regulated? Doctors, lawyers, teachers, mechanics, technical workers, college professors, Subway shop owners, bankers, pastors, grocery store mangers, YMCA staff? Which?
AM: What do I care if Tax Man is left comatose in a botched operation and you have to work 3 jobs to pay for round-the-clock care for him?
AM: Like I said, I don't care about tort reform. Why should I? It doesn't affect me personally.
So you don't care about anything that doesn't affect you personally?
That is sad.
Can you tell us all the seven jobs areas I mentioned that have their pay regulated by the government? That was what this discussion was about, your comment "I'd make health care providers take a little less, like they do in other countries. They're doctors, not gods." That would be interesting to know.
AM: Just say when you're ready to unregulate lawyers, okay?
It's good to hear you are for deregulation though, well except for doctors apparently. That's nice.
Can you tell us all the seven jobs areas I mentioned that have their pay regulated by the government?
You didn't say "pay" the first time. As for which groups are regulated, they include at least these ...
Doctors, lawyers, teachers, Subway shop owners (food and health regulations), bankers (banking regulations, albeit highly ineffective regulations), grocery store managers (food and health regulations), and YMCA staff (swimming instructors, child care workers, etc.).
So you don't care about anything that doesn't affect you personally?
That is sad.
I'm just trying to talk like a Republican, JoAnna. Just like you. Don't take it seriously.
Seriously.
It's good to hear you are for deregulation though, well except for doctors apparently.
Most doctors already have their fees regulated to some extent through capitation and other insurance company practices that assure that the insurer gets to keep more of their money. But I assure you I've seen the light and I'm ready to de-regulate doctors in every way. No longer will they have to follow any kind of quality assurance standards or have their licenses open to scrutiny by the rabble. No longer will they be subject to any constraints on prices they charge, even for routine office visits.
The sky's the limit.
Because only then will they know true freedom. Freedom to gouge, in more ways than one.
This convention is a joke, socialist, pro-ilegal imigrants, union boses, anti-business people.
Even Antonio Villaraigosa the organizer of the DNC convention, is a socialist union organizer head of the SEIU in the South of the border who is against immigration control and favor the Matricula Consular an Id issued for the Mexican Government ,has a valid US ID to get driver licenses and apply for jobs, Villaraigosa was also writer for Mexico sin frontera “ Mexico without Borders” and supportive of other Chicano groups that demand US return the land steal in the American Mexican war
Apparently no one has read obamas book well if you all love him so much then when the muslim nation take over the United states and you all become muslims what will you all say then ... you are all dumb arses .
oh my lord, you probably think you're reading something you're not because you really don't like the President, but you're take on his words are just ridiculous, and it makes you sound like a nut case.
I did not know that the Castro Brothers had left Havana. Did they hand out cigars to all of the delegates. Don't give Bill Clinton any he always tries to hide them.
By the way we finally hit 16 trillion. What a nice sound, 16, 16. But of course that won't last long 17 is on the way. Oh just to share premium gas can be purchased for $5.09 per gallon. I would suggest we start pricing it per liter so the price does not seem so high. What was it about 4 years ago. Oh yes about $1.83 per gallon.
Four more years, four more years. We will need more that a chant if Barry and the Idiot are rehired. Could they even run a POPCORN wagon. At least it would be organized and Solar Powered.
ZORRO engaged his MOUTH without the use of a BRAIN! He's one of the reasons we need to EDUCATE PEOPLE! If they truly understood, you wouldn't be reading his garbage because he would know better! He needs some "CASTRO" LIVER OIL to get rid of his BULL$HIT!!
I just love it when a tea party led republican posts a comment here, they keep telling us we're blind to OBAMA, we dems, I couldn't disagree more, it's the tea party led republican who is blind! However you're blind because Romney hasn't shown you one piece of concret evidence that his plan has anything in it that will create jobs (could be because the 12 millions jobs he touts have already been forcast by the CBO for 2013)... WHY because he hasn't shown it to anyone!
Ryan and Romney are a pair of empty habitual lying suits doing the bidding for Rove, the Koch's, Adelson and Norquist, it will be them running this country should Romney make it to the oval office... and, I can guarantee you that their interests are self interests... they're not interested in you unless you a 1%er.
I watched the GOP convention, the folks there were not for Romney, they're against Obama and by the actions of the tea party led congress they're against the american people... The tea party led congress are directly responsible for the slow economy, big business is directly responsible for the slow economy, and the tea party led congress is directly responsible for the credit downgrade all in the name of politics... WELL, anyone voting the GOP ticket will be voting against their own best interests.
Obama 2012 lets take our congress back so Obama can sign the job bill and put millions back to work!
The constant spewing of propaganda from the republicans is shameful. Gas was not 1.83$ A GALLON ANYTIME RECENTLY(8years ago it was 2.97$).... Lets talk about how corporations are sticking it up the backside of the American people already. Anyone know what minimum wage is......$7.50/hr certainly a liviable wage, LOL!!.... Do you know what restarunts pay their employees $4.25/hr I am really tired of hearing about "investors" and "job creators" that rob the average American blind, to buy a third car or a vacation home, like mittens and queen anne. The lower and middle class are the true job creators we are the consumers that line the pockets of people who would rather give their employees 39hrs a week so they don't have to pay for benefits then doing whats right. Paying a livable wage and providing benefits for all employees. Tell me I'm wrong and back it up with facts not more garbage spewing out of your pie hole.
Listen up! White boy speak truth! The corrupt Republican coporate MONARCHY doesn't even want a free education for our children! They're afraid their corruption will be UNDERSTOOD BY ALL!
Jobs jobs jobs ,let me see wasn't there a bill to do with the infrastructure that would have created few jobs, hmmmm oh the republicans filibustered it ,go figure .seems every time the prez came up with something .Paul Ryan and his lot shot it down.I am sorry don't speak about jobs and bash the prez on it .not on my watch.
That's right it is Bush's, Rep., Rich American Citizens, Big Business, my dog's fault that there is no budget or bills jobs passed. Try again. My children take more responsible for their actions than this President.
Sounds like a woman with little or no intelligence speaking out, out of fraustration! Total misunderstanding of what Democracy is and what CORRUPTION IS! This is why we need FREE EDUCATION so the people can understand what is REALLY HAPPENING TO THEM!
ALthough I am a Republican I must agree with most of the comments here. Michelle knocked it out of the box. She is as steady as they come and she is a wonderful First Lady - proud, beautiful, accomplished, educated, great wife and mom. I agree that the RNC seems to alienate the common man much to its detriment. I do not think Romney will win this election although I will vote for him.
This attempt to demonize Obama as if he is Hitler is so disheartening to me. The class warfare was started by others and I believe in my fellow Americans. We will have our time soon enough but until then I may not agree or have voted for my President but I do support and pray for his success and that of my country. God bless everyone and see you at the polls!
Actually, Mohammed was considered a prophet and the founder of Islam. Muslims pray to Allah which is also God. At least be educated about what you spew. What Obama believes prays in has nothing to do with my own beliefs.
What was it that our "Trustworthy" President whispered in Putin's ear when he thought the microphones were off?? Sounds like another shady deal.
Has the current administration purchased the new money making machine, the way Mr. O is printing it we will need a new one.
How many jobs were living wage (not minimum wage) jobs, with benefits?
It is a sad world when we hard working middle class (at the poverty level) watch as we feed the welfare lines where the recipients sell their food stamps for drugs. There is no reason these bums would want to go to work, everything is given to them. There are jobs out there but they can't make as much as the system gives them. Kind of takes the initiative away doesn't it?
We don't need wars, illegal aliens or foreign countries to spend our money on, we have "The United States of America" that could use it.
Had the corrupt Republican corporate MONARCHY spread their wealth to the 99% American People, instead of givng it ALL to their ONE-PERCENTERS & VACATIONING CEO'S, ALL WORKERS could be working JUST 3 DAYS A WEEK FOR THEIR SAME 5 DAY PAY! Then, they could have hired the UNEMPLOYED and put them back in our economic system! But, that's NOT HOW CAPITALISTIC GREED WORKS! It's ALL FOR US & PISS ON YOU!! Now that's TRUE CAPITALISM! So, if you are enjoying being a CAPITALISM SLAVE, vote Republican; if not, vote 100% STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC and yourself of the corrupt Republican corporate MONARCHY once & FOREVER!
If it wasn't for the capitalistic greed, EVERYONE COULD & WOULD BE WORKING and enjoying an American way of life instead of worrying about having to pay for the 3x's too high gasoline prices and at the same time try to put food on the table for their children!! Life could be so VERY GOOD FOR ALL instead of just for exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH'S ONE-PERCENTERS who are working diligently to put this political puppet in office so they can continue STEALING FROM US!!
Obama/Biden 2012 for the country's future.

Ummm commonamerican - so if that's the case, why didn't they show up for the Republican convention? See just totally stupid post on your part!
Obama/Biden 2012
You're probably right, Seeking. With someone like that, I'm just wasting my time.
Anna, the government doesn't create private sector jobs, on that we agree.

Sanity, just keep trotting out these tired old DNC talking points.
Eventually, someone other than you "true believers" may listen.
For me, and the majority of other American voters, your guy is toast.
So when the government wants roads and other infrastructure made, contracting to private firms doesn't create private sector jobs?
commonamerican - you don't speak for the MAJORITY of American voters and that will become very evident in November!
If you don't like the truth about jobs, you're in for a very tough two months!
Obama/Biden 2012

God bless everyone and see you at the polls!
You pray to GOD while Obama prays to Muhammid. You need to educate yourself on where Obama was raised and who his two fathers were.
Actually, Mohammed was considered a prophet and the founder of Islam. Muslims pray to Allah which is also God. At least be educated about what you spew. What Obama believes prays in has nothing to do with my own beliefs.
Nice going Dem.'s throwing Jew's and GOD under the bus in this DNC. Try going back home and explaining this to your districts.
