You'd think after the beating the GOP took in 2008, they would have learned that social media is important to any candidate. But, not so.
However, if you look at the demographics of their supporters you'll see why. The GOP convention was seriously lacking young people. The party is effectively dying and there is really no way out unless they find a way to appeal to today's youth.
My guess is the Democratic convention will be very different. You'll see the faces of young supporters everywhere throughout the convention floor.

Since the young can't find jobs due to this administration's incompetence on the economy, the unemployed youth have little else to do.
And here I thought the government didn't create jobs.
Exactly what is the private sector planning to do with those trillions of dollars of cash they are holding in reserve, and why couldn't they do it now?

Anna, the government doesn't create private sector jobs, on that we agree.
What the government can do is create an atmosphere of confidence. Doing so, business will be willing to take a risk and reinvest and hire.
Obama fosters uncertainty and continues to show himself anti business. He creates an atmostphere of incompetence.
No confidence in this president, the still uncertain costs of Obamacare, awaiting his next attack on the private sector, will cause business will hang to its money as long as possible.
And Sanity, there were plenty of young at the RNC. Perhaps in your blind allegiance to a failed president, you just didn't see them.
commonamerican1 - you couldn't be more wrong. President Obama has done a great deal to help foster confidence in the private sector - which is why over 2 million jobs have been added in the private sector.
And, if the GOP hadn't sat on his jobs bill each time it was presented there would be more. He has proposed tax increases for companies that continue to outsource their jobs overseas and tax breaks for companies bringing jobs back. But, the GOP refuses to even present the proposal.
All you've got is lies - try something valid for a change!

And what more confidence do they need with trillions of dollars in the bank?
They'll make money, all right -- the same way they're making it now. Why do you think the DOW is so high while unemployment is also so high? The new capitalists are proving that they don't need workers -- at least not workers in THIS country -- to make money anymore.
And if President Obama loses, they no doubt expect that they can take even more off the backs of the American worker to keep for themselves.

Why, yes, it does ... and then the contractors will cluelessly claim that THEY built it.
There were any number of those phonies on stage in Tampa last week.
That's right. The business climate elsewhere is much better than in the US. Businesses, like customers, take their business elsewhere when they need to do so, especially the ones that can like Apple and GE. Modernization and the ability to do things globally has made this a fact around the world. It's time the US competed in that environment, and it's time the government, which is stuck in the ways and days of running post offices, allows businesses to do so.
Now we're back to the pension debate. So what do you do when the money runs out and no one has access to health care? You have a contract you say? Well that's wonderful, and what is the contract worth when you're bankrupt? Here's what it looks like in one one country that has gone broke:

JAS1: Maybe the business shouldn't make contracts it cannot fulfill. Because personally I don't see why the execs who made said contracts get to keep their millions / billions while those who should have been paid (i.e. pensions) lose it all. If the ship goes down, we all go down together. But that's my 2c.
There's a fine line between competing, and lowering our standards to do so. I for one am not ready to see regulations like clear air take a back seat so somebody can make a buck. In addition, do we really want to see workers live on wages that are paid in Asia?
Well, we're not exactly talking about "pensions," but for two things, I'd get rid of private sector health insurance companies which merely suck profits off the top without adding any value to health care, and I'd make health care providers take a little less, like they do in other countries. They're doctors, not gods.
When President Obama tried to do that with those $716 billion in "cuts" to Medicare -- i.e., by eliminating inefficiencies and getting rid of insurers who charged too much for Medicare Advantage -- look what happened.
Hooray for profit!! Boo for health care!!

Agreed again. But to do so we have to find a way to both be competitive and not restrictive, a fine balance to be sure. Certainly we don't have that balance today.
An admirable proposal. But if not private sector health insurance, what of the government running it? Again with the post office analogy, the government hasn't exactly been the best at providing services by moving to and using modern technology. The government is stuck in the 19th century of a 21ist century world, much more concerned about the unionization of its workers than providing a good reliable services at competitive prices to their customers. You can see the validity of this concern, yes?
Well, that's an interesting proposal. Interesting that you single out one field of workers to have their pay regulated, but aren't interested in doing so to any other group. Tort reform anyone? They're lawyers, not gods.

You didn't say "pay" the first time. As for which groups are regulated, they include at least these ...
Doctors, lawyers, teachers, Subway shop owners (food and health regulations), bankers (banking regulations, albeit highly ineffective regulations), grocery store managers (food and health regulations), and YMCA staff (swimming instructors, child care workers, etc.).

Most doctors already have their fees regulated to some extent through capitation and other insurance company practices that assure that the insurer gets to keep more of their money. But I assure you I've seen the light and I'm ready to de-regulate doctors in every way. No longer will they have to follow any kind of quality assurance standards or have their licenses open to scrutiny by the rabble. No longer will they be subject to any constraints on prices they charge, even for routine office visits.
The sky's the limit.
Because only then will they know true freedom. Freedom to gouge, in more ways than one.

By the way we finally hit 16 trillion. What a nice sound, 16, 16. But of course that won't last long 17 is on the way. Oh just to share premium gas can be purchased for $5.09 per gallon. I would suggest we start pricing it per liter so the price does not seem so high. What was it about 4 years ago. Oh yes about $1.83 per gallon.

ALthough I am a Republican I must agree with most of the comments here. Michelle knocked it out of the box. She is as steady as they come and she is a wonderful First Lady - proud, beautiful, accomplished, educated, great wife and mom. I agree that the RNC seems to alienate the common man much to its detriment. I do not think Romney will win this election although I will vote for him.
This attempt to demonize Obama as if he is Hitler is so disheartening to me. The class warfare was started by others and I believe in my fellow Americans. We will have our time soon enough but until then I may not agree or have voted for my President but I do support and pray for his success and that of my country.
