Convention host N.C. finds itself as pivotal battleground

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The choice of location for any political convention speaks volumes about election-year strategy, and the goal for Democrats in choosing North Carolina was, put simply, to stay on offense – expanding President Barack Obama’s path to a second term and building a permanent foothold in a southern state.

The battleground for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House in November encompasses a number of states but, for Obama, winning here in November might mean putting the presidency out of reach for Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., joins NBC's Andrea Mitchell to discuss the Democrats' reelection strategy.

“If Romney doesn't win North Carolina, he's not going to be the president,” said Dallas Woodhouse, the state director for Americans for Prosperity, the economically conservative group associated with billionaire brothers, David and Charles Koch.

The president won the Tar Heel State in 2008, making him the first Democratic presidential candidate to carry North Carolina since Jimmy Carter in 1976. But Obama only won by 14,000 votes – a relatively thin margin out of 2.2 million total ballots cast – stressing the extent to which North Carolina still seems like more natural turf for Republicans in a presidential election.

Related -- First Thoughts: Feeling good

The 2008 election saw unprecedented voter turnout among African-Americans and students in the state’s “Research Triangle,” a geographic cluster in the northern part of North Carolina, anchored by several major universities. Part of the question in 2012 is whether Obama can recapture the enthusiasm of four years ago.

“We know that it’s going to be close, and it was last time,” said an Obama campaign official in North Carolina, who asked to speak on background in order to offer a better assessment of the race.

The most recent polling showed the race here close, with Romney holding a four-point lead in the latest Elon University/Charlotte Observer poll published Monday.

Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., talks about how the African American vote can play out in the 2012 election and how recent the economic outlook and Friday's job outlook may affect voter decisions.

As with Romney last week in Tampa, where Republicans had hoped their convention would have a pronounced and positive effect on voters in Florida, Democrats are looking to leave Charlotte in better shape for the fall.

Making matters more difficult for Obama are troubles within the state's Democratic Party. Allegations of sexual harassment against a state party official, a struggling economy, and Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue’s somewhat surprising decision against seeking a second term are among the factors that worsen matters for Democrats here. But Perdue was also far from popular, and her decision against seeking a second term arguably cleaned the slate for state Democrats.

“Voters are voting on the president and his record and Mitt Romney and his lack of a record,” the Obama official argued. “So the state party has had no impact on our organization.”

This state is nonetheless battleground turf. North Carolina is among the nine “toss up” states on the NBC News battleground map. The state ranks fourth in total ad spending, according to NBC’s ad-tracking sources, underscoring how competitive the battle for this state’s 15 electoral votes has become.

The Obama campaign and its supporters have spent $22 million in North Carolina so far this cycle, versus $34 million by the Romney campaign and outside groups and super PACs who back the Republican presidential candidate.

That number is only likely to grow thanks to additional advertising dollars being sent into the state to turn voters out to the polls, not just on Election Day, but during early voting periods, as well.

The turnout operation is especially important given the need for Obama to replicate the voter numbers that helped put him over the top in 2008.

Chuck takes a look at the gender gap in the 2012, and points out how women can play a very important role in the 2012 election.

“He had a level of excitement that was unprecedented, and I don't see it this time,” said Woodhouse. “When you only win by 14,000 votes, it only takes a small loss of enthusiasm for things to go the other way.”

Recommended -- Poll: Romney's convention speech gets low marks

Putting the Democratic National Convention here in Charlotte is, in no small part, an effort to recapture and harness those passions from 2008, especially in North Carolina. George W. Bush actually won Mecklenburg County – home to Charlotte – in 2000, and Republicans won the Raleigh area from 1996 through 2004. Obama won those areas decisively in 2008, and he drove up his numbers with good turnout in Fayetteville and surrounding areas to the south.

The Obama campaign boasts of having an organizational advantage associated with keeping an "Organizing for America" office open in North Carolina for the span of the president’s first term, and they claim to have gotten a good response to a volunteering initiative that distributed tickets to the president’s speech on the final night of the convention.

And convention organizers are hopeful that they can use this week’s festivities – including Monday’s “Carolinafest,” an event open to the public featuring entertainers like James Taylor, and Thursday’s stadium acceptance speech by Obama – to both recruit volunteers and win over voters.

Paintings of President Barack Obama are for sale at a street fair in Charlotte, North Carolina, September 3, 2012.

One convention planner argued that history shows a mixed record for candidates and the site of their conventions; the Obama team believes how they use their convention is just as important as where they place it.

"Where you plop down your convention really doesn't matter, unless you use it wisely,” said the convention planner.

Winning North Carolina – or even staying competitive here – would bode well for the president’s bid for a second term. Obama doesn’t need to win the state, and has plenty of other paths to victory without it. Romney’s math, his ability to secure the 270 necessary electoral votes to win the White House, would be far more difficult without North Carolina. The mere fact that North Carolina is even in the list of competitive states demonstrates the advantages Obama has and the hurdles Romney faces.

Moreover, if Obama is even threatening victory here by Election Day, it will have meant that Romney was forced to spend resources on winning a state President George W. Bush won easily in 2004 despite then-North Carolina Sen. John Edwards being on the Democratic ticket.

I wish it wasn't a race in just a few battleground states. It seems like it negates the impact of the individual vote. My sister and I will both vote democratic, but my vote in New York and hers in Texas won't sway a thing...for exactly opposite reasons.

All of sudden every state is a battleground state. But the truth is that if Romney refuses to release his tax return, then I guess, how people can relate to Mitt the Vulture in this bad economy.

Well, Queen Ann mentioned in her praise of Mitt during the Convention that both of them did so many of their own things together - such as doing their own grocery shopping...and...

bagging their own gold...without any assistance from their maids

I didn't realize the Romneys were so self-reliant, so different from other rich folks.

When LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, ending segregation, the President said, we have lost the south. It's amazing that LBJ has been correct - the South has become Republican. Every since LBJ, the only Democrats to occupy the White House were two southerners (Carter and Clinton) until Obama.

But things are changing, the Democrats can take over the south...with changing demographics, for example. More Latinos are in the South and they can vote Democratic in overwhelming numbers; and remember a large number African Americans are also in the South and can vote Democratic for a long time because it is the Democrats that put the first African American in the White House.

If LBJ tried to escalate Vietnam war for his own benefit, he failed, and did not even run for re-election in 1968. And we got stuck on tricky dick - I am not talking about Cheney who also started his political career during Nixon.

LBJ also saves grandma and grandpa with Medicare, which GOP is still mad with.

Thank you, LBJ

Well, both are from the South and even Carter suggested putting his support behind Romney and we know that even Billy boy hates Obama and really wishes to see him defeated. :o) Remember, Obama pulled the "race card" on him, per his own words.

How much longer do we have to wait for the Bush Tax-Cuts or 'Trickle Down' Economics to work????

Its been almost 10 years since Bush's Tax-Cuts for the wealthy and I am still waiting for the crumbs to trickle down to me....

Yours arrived yet?

The Bush tax cuts for the "wealthy" cost 700B over 10 years. The Obama tax cuts for the Middle Class cost $3T over 10 years. They have been in place for 12 years now (Bush and Obama Administrations). Why do you think Obama strategy of growing the middle class out will work any better than trickle down?

Democrats Plan for the Economy:

TAX Policy: Increase taxes on the Rich( aka small businesses)

Because the president wants to increase spending even faster than he wants to increase taxes. President Obama's proposed tax hike would raise roughly $65 billion in 2013. At the same time, the president proposes to increase spending next year by $202 billion. The tax hike would pay for only 32 percent of the proposed new spending. Or put it another way: Over ten years, the new taxes would cover roughly half of the $1.6 trillion in new subsidies and Medicaid spending under Obamacare.

Wage Policy: Increase minimum wage. Why? To make them look better. Unemployment is already high and what the Obama administration doesn't understand is that any wage increases would already put small businesses out of business.

Anyone who has studied economics knows this to be a fact. Minimum wage increases contribute to joblessness. If people are paying more for minimum wage, they will be expecting more education in return.

It will hurt the poor, whose job skills may not be up to par with someone who has a degree and can't find a job. If you were the employer, which would you choose?

Couple that with increased taxes on the "wealthy" and you will hurt small businesses. Rich people will always be rich no matter what. It is those who own the small businesses who will suffer.

Here's the proof that Democrats are better for EVERYBODY and the Republicans are better for the rich:

Income Growth Rates 1948-2005

Under Democrats, the biggest income gains were for people in the bottom 20th income percentile (2.6 percent). The income gains grew progressively smaller further up the income scale (2.5 percent for the 40th and 60th percentiles, 2.4 percent for the 80th percentile, and so on). But under Republicans, the biggest income gains were for people in the 95th percentile (1.9 percent). The income gains grew progressively smaller further down the income scale (1.4 percent for the 80th percentile, 1.1 for the 60th percentile, etc.).

Two other observations are worth making:

1) In all income categories except the 95th percentile, income growth rates under Democratic presidents exceeded income growth rates under Republican ones. That suggests greater income equality can coexist with (or even help create) greater prosperity.

2) The 95th percentile fared about the same under Democrats and Republicans. (This chart shows it doing slightly better under Democrats, but the margin of error erases the Democrats' advantage.) Bartels' party-based interpretation of income inequality can't address the Great Divergence, Part 2—the stratospheric rise in incomes at the very top—because for this group, it doesn't matter much whether a Democrat or a Republican inhabits the White House. Political scientists Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson, of Yale and Berkeley, respectively, argue that the apparently nonpartisan solicitude Democrats and Republicans express toward the rich is the result of a massive increase in Washington's corporate lobbying sector since the 1970s—and that the growing power of big business in Washington has been a major contributor to the Great Divergence.

Anyone who wants to hand big business this election is a fool.

What you're doing by cutting tax rates for the wealthy and corporations is putting the burden of building America's roads, sanitation systems, schools, public buildings and parks on the poor and middle class.

What the GOP says is that the working class has to hire all the teachers, firefighters, police, food inspectors, park staff, transit workers, etc. etc. etc.

The working class is already carrying 36% of the burden just through their payroll taxes, while millionaires and investment leeches like Mr. Romney pay NOTHING.

60% of American corporations pay no taxes, and they only contribute a total of 8% to federal revenues now. 8%!!

Pay up, leeches.

Even though you may be disappointed in Obama, please consider the alternative.

And please do not vote for a third party candidate, because that will hand the electoral votes to Romney/Ryan.

Give Obama another 4 years and a cooperative Congress, and keep up the pressure, letting him know what you want. Then we'll see.

If still dissatisfied, you can go for Jeb Bush in 2016....

Real Americans First: So what you are saying is that Bush deserved to leave office, just like Obama?

Bush inherited some of that debt from Clinton in the same way that Obama inherited that debt from Bush.

The debt is now 20 Trillion. How much of that can you say comes from Bush? Obama debt has grown to 40%. Our country's rating has gone down. And the more he stays in office, the worse off we will be.

This is not a lie. As for you nonfarm payroll report, we all know they report something and then the following week, they realize it wasn't as high as expected. Here let me show you.

You said:

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 163,000 in July.

When in fact the article said this:

The Labor Department report, in a glimmer of positive news after three straight months of dismal jobs numbers, showed that hiring reached its best level since February, with 163,000 jobs added.

But the number brings the economy back to treading-water status. The economy added an average of 151,000 jobs a month this year, roughly the same as last year's pace. That's not enough to satisfy the 12.8 million Americans who are unemployed. It would take 250,000 new jobs a month to rapidly bring the unemployment rate down.

Obama's social agenda do not find much ground in NC, gay marriage was his last debacle. Obama succeed using the race card to get the back votes from NC the only solid group that will vote for him, the capital of NASCAR will favor Romney this time. It was a mistake for Democrats thinking that the convention will get the votes to swing NC to his side. Obama won with the white vote, who sough an opportunity ,to redeem their guilty sentiment voting for a black President. Obama was elected , no more guilt anymore, we already elect the first African American President, but from there to reelect him, is way too far.Obama did not deliver his promises and he spend 4 years blaming Bush, the Republicans, the European crisis, the tsunami in Japan and anything he got on hands to bring excuses to his failure. We don't need him 4 more years doing the same , looking for different result is just insane. We need to change the course a new leader that a understand that in order to make the economy work we need two key elements, capital and labor , Obama is in war with the capital that lead to a failure.

Who keeps their promises? And who just obstructs and then blames the other side?

From PolitiFact.com:

A scorecard on President Obama's campaign promises

Four years ago, Barack Obama made an extraordinary array of campaign promises -- 508 pledges on everything from taxing the rich to ending the Iraq war.

He vowed to get health coverage for the uninsured and to safeguard the environment by capping carbon emissions. He pledged to push for comprehensive immigration reform and help homeowners after the housing market crashed.

Above all, he would change the tenor of the debate in Washington.

"We have a chance to bring the country together in a new majority — to finally tackle problems that Washington has ignored for too long. And that is why the same old Washington textbook campaigns just won't do in this election," he said in Blueprint for Change, a campaign document that became his presidential to-do list.

PolitiFact has been tracking all 508 promises and keeping tally on the Obameter throughout his presidency.

Our scorecard shows Obama kept 37 percent of his promises. He brought the war in Iraq to a close and finally achieved the Democratic dream of a universal health care program. When the United States had Osama bin Laden in its sights, Obama issued the order to kill.

Sixteen percent are rated Broken, often because they hit a brick wall in Congress. Global warming legislation passed the House but died in the Senate. He didn't even push for comprehensive immigration reform. His program to help homeowners facing foreclosure didn't even meet its own benchmarks. (PolitiFact rates campaign promises based on outcomes, not intentions.)

With four months left in Obama's term, PolitiFact has rated Obama's remaining promises Compromise (14 percent), Stalled (10 percent) or In the Works (22 percent).

One stands out as not only his biggest broken promise, but as an explanation for many others that have fizzled or failed: his pledge to bring people together for a bipartisan agenda.

"That, it seems to me, is the most important promise that the president has not been able to keep," said William Galston, a former Clinton administration aide who now is a fellow at the Brookings Institution and studies political polarization. "It will long be debated by historians whether he tried and failed, or didn't really try at all."

This is an accounting of the promises Obama kept and failed to keep, and how bipartisanship eluded him at nearly every turn.

Obama lies. Obama is running a campaign full of lies trying to stay away from his records, because his economic plan is a failure. We had the worst economy after the great depression , but the worst recovery in history. 14 % in real unemployment numbers, almost 6 trillions of dollars more in debt, negative economic growth 1.5 % compare with population growth, it means we have a lower average income. Record number of welfare recipients, record number living below poverty, No confidence. There is no energy policy other than give money away to crony capitalist and Chinese industries to produce batteries for electric cars, Obama is against oil industry, coal industry, nuclear industry but favor the GE wind turbines made in China. Foreign policy is a disaster, helping radicals to take down tyrants , taking down an evil to replace for a worst evil, and throwing under the bus our best ally Israel, demanding to go beck to their 1972 borders. Divide and conquer is the way Obama can win this election, we are more divided than ever in history . Obama call Republican his enemies, attack Congress all the time because they don't do things on his way, attack Supreme court all the time for the same reason, use the DOJ to pick and choose what laws to support, he prefer an absolutist kind of government rule by Executive powers because he do not believe in Democracy.

Perhaps the Democrats would like to keep their jobs in November since they see the writing on the walls after the Republican landslide during the last congressional Election. It was really a shame too because a lot of good people became victims of the lies and flip flop politics in the white house. People are actually fearful with the wisywashy nature of Barry'O. His hypocrisy seems to not know any bounds. He says he supports Same sex marriage, while he visits and make deals with Muslims who are the most dangerous creatures on earth, unless you like to go swimming off the coast of Australia with a fresh cut porterhouse steak tied to your neck. However, you will not need to travel to Australia to swim with the sharks, they are in Dearborn MI and will be seen at the Democratic convention if the liberal media decides to tell the truth.

The Irony and misdirection of his nature is confounding to all even as the liberal media tap dances to entertain the mass public. I remember right after he was elected the people saying that they would now qualify for welfare that the Republicans denied them. Their interviews were on national TV, but I was a social worker and heard the protestations in person.

If any of you self important geniuses would like to learn the true nature of the welfare system, then become a social worker and see our society as it really is, deep in the dirt. The fact that welfare families are three and four generations dependent on this subsidized income and the associated drugs, prostitution, and so on go along with the sacrifice of the children and their children's children and so on. The rhetoric and high ideal morals the liberals are so good at portraying, smoothly covered the blood of unborn children killed because the irresponsible mothers can't or will not abstain from unprotected sex.

So they get pregnant by the bushels and you propose to either use taxpayers money to kill the children, or subsidized the welfare of the fatherless families. I guess if you look at the bright side, you could say they had fathers for a matter of minutes or even months. The cases I worked, by a great majority, the mothers could not say who the fathers were or even how many potential fathers were involved with her.

The fearful Liberals and Anarchist attack the Morals of Republicans when the Republicans are only asking for a form of integrity. But when you figure that most people cannot even recite the definition for the word, much less spell it. Even our cherished rights as a citizen are under attack at every turn. The vote is intended for one citizen and one vote. what is so difficult to understand about that? Criminals like illegal aliens, people with felonies, and dead people need not apply for the right to vote. I read where in california, the illegal aliens can now get a legal driver's license. Is this just a coincidence or is this another attack on the legal citizens of America? We seem to see Eric and his boss Barry'O working every day at ways to undermine our society.

One thing we can always rely on though is that the people who have no valid argument's will always be able to reach for a Survey of convoluted data to cloud the real issues between What is right or What is wrong.

"The Democratic National Convention finds itself smack dab in the middle of a HORNETS NEST"

BTW: Washington State has been "giving" out driver's licenses to Illegal Aliens (Immigrants). Last check, there were 800,000 more driver licenses issued than there are legal drivers in the State. Guess what....yeah....you got it.....to vote in the State you can show your driver's license.

Here's a great JOKE by AnaBanana-1782128

Special Guest Speaker at the DNC Convention: Betty White comes out on the floor to applause and someone brings a chair out to her.

She looks at it, and looks at the crowd, and looks at the chair again, and walks over to it and sits down.

Betty:

"What did you expect. Did you want me to talk to a chair?... Really?"

She asks the crowd while still sitting.

"I'm 90 . . not crazy!"

Oh oh....looks like the middle and lower classes thinks BO is LYING to them....

Among voters earning $40,000 to $60,000 a year, 67 percent said they were not satisfied with the president's handling of the economy and 62 percent said the country is in worse condition now than in 2008.

Similarly, 58 percent of people earning between $20,000 and $40,000 a year said the country is worse off now, and 66 percent are unhappy with his handling of the economy.

GOD=7_4, 7/4=July 4th. G is the 7th letter, O is 15 or zerO, and D is 4. Our Founding Fathers used this Simple(6,74) English(7,74) Gematria(8,74) with the key(74) of 'A-B-C becomes 1-2-3'(74). Mitt Romney used this Masonic(7,74) Code(4 letters) when he chose an iPod app at 7:04 pm to announce his VP and then announced Paul Ryan at 7:04 am.

The Democrats used the GOD=704 Code when they chose Charlotte for their Convention with its 704 area code.

"for Obama, winning here (N.C.) in November might mean putting the presidency out of reach for Republican challenger Mitt Romney."

And Romney winning in Pennsylvania might mean putting the presidency out of reach for Obama, but that is far more likely to happen than Obama winning North Carolina.

Romney is now ahead among Likely Voters in enough states to win more than the 270 Electoral Votes needed to win at this time - without PA or Ohio.

During the Democratic Convention of 2008, Barack Obama, in his acceptance speech, said:

"If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things."

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE IS NOW DOING!!

In an interview a few months later he said:

"If I don’t have this (the economy) done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.”

IF THE MAN HAD ANY INTEGRITY AND DECENCY, HE WOULD HAVE ALREADY ABDICATED HIS OFFICE!!

What are democrats going to talk about at the convention? Are they going to attack and go negative everyday of the convention? Sooner or later you have to talk about what you have done and with Obamacare being disliked by the majority of Americans and the economy still in bad shape what are these speeches going to be about?

Another Deadbeat Texan "Unemployment was 3.8% before the Bush Tax-Cuts."

Actually, it was 6.3% just before the tax cuts were fully implemented because of 911. Bush got them down to 4.4% just 3 years after the tax cuts took effect. But then the Democrats took control of Congress and the legislative agenda - and the economy tanked almost immediately - the recession started just 11 months later.

    If you check the record, you will find the following after the Bush Tax Cuts went into effect;

    - The economy grew by 25.43% in 4 years (6.36% per year).

    - Federal Revenues increased by 44.08% in 4 years - 10.02% per year - despite the lower RATES.

    - 7,599,000 net new jobs were added in 4 years (1,899,750 jobs per year).

Some time ago there was a billboard of a smiling Bush saying "Miss me yet?" - for the majority of Americans, I suspect the answer is YES.

So we should believe you about "real unemployment numbers" because the Bureau of Labor Statistics, well they are just a bunch of liars, huh.

Bush left us with 14 trillion of debt - 10 trillion on the books, and 4 trillion for the wars and the unfunded mandate - 4 trillion that weren't on the books till after Obama got into office. Current debt stands at 16 trillion. So where does Obama's EXTRA 6 trillion come from?

I live in NC and the POS potus is toast. Most non-black democrats I know are either voting for Romney or not voting at all. They just can't bring themselves to vote for the moron. Pretty smart for a Democrat, huh.

The race is currently in a statistical dead heat, and blacks make up about 15-20% of the population. That means that, counting for the 5% that are Latinos and other minorties, about 30% of the remaining white population is voting for Obama. This is your idea of "most."

If you weren't so intent on being insulting, you might consider pausing a few seconds and paying attention to what you are saying.

Two political science professors at the University of Colorado, Kenneth Bickers and Michael Berry, have a model that analyses two economic factors, unemployment and changes in real per capita income. The model has correctly predicted each presidential election since 1980.

In the state by state analysis they predict Romeny will win with 320 votes. Your math must be a little light somewhere.

            Near,

University of Colorado, Kenneth Bickers and Michael Berry hedge their prediction …

“The economy has seen some improvement since President Obama took office. What remains to be seen is whether voters will consider the economy in relative or absolute terms. If it’s the former, the president may receive credit for the economy’s trajectory and win a second term.

Factors they said may affect their prediction include the timeframe of the economic data used in the study and close tallies in certain states. The current data was taken five months in advance of the Nov. 6 election and they plan to update it with more current economic data in September. A second factor is that states very close to a 50-50 split may fall an unexpected direction.

Go to 538 Blog to see the toss-up states if you must, but these are the numbers.

            . . .

Here's a more reliable Electoral College Model for YOU to consider...

            http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/ projects

            • President Obama 307.8 Electoral Votes (Nov 6th)
            • if the election were held TODAY 293.9

President Obama is still consistently being projected as the winner over

            • Romney's 230.2 Electoral Votes (Nov 6th)
            • if the election were held TODAY 244.1

270 Electoral Votes are required to win, so something disastrous would need to happen for President Obama to lose this election.

All indications are that Obama has got this election wrapped up.

Her 90 years make her way to wise to let Romney lead us into a depression like W. did.

Actually, if Obama is re-elected, Betty will unfortunately spend the later years of her life as she did her early years ... in a depression due to a progressive ideologue.

The facts are, the recession was caused by big government social engineering in the housing market ... began in December 2007, peaked in September 2008 and was officially over by July 2009. The last 3 years have been a non-recovery that rivals a depression in terms of "real" unemployment.

The middle class has lost 38% of its wealth UNDER OBAMA.

The median household income has dropped $4,000 a year every year UNDER OBAMA - MORE LOST IN OBAMA'S RECOVERY THAN IN THE ACTUAL RECESSION.

Why do you ignore the facts and defend the indefensible?

                  Talk to the hand -

Actually it is worse than that....

Dems have had the Senate 6 out of the last 6 years...

Dems have had the House 4 out of the last 6 years ...

Dems have had the presidency for the last 3 1/2 years ....

... but it is all Bush"s and those secret 15 pesky repubs' fault.

Two political science professors at the University of Colorado, Kenneth Bickers and Michael Berry, have a model that analyses two economic factors, unemployment and changes in real per capita income. The model has correctly predicted each presidential election since 1980.

In the state by state analysis they predict Romeny will win with 320 electoral votes.

                  Trashy -

                  Pretty clueless post.

                  Deficits don't matter?

Cheney was assuming sane people and policies, not an asinine clueless community organizer's understanding of economics.

Most people have debt in the form of a mortgage or car payments. No problem as long as they can handle it. The problem is when a family has asinine spending on a big house they can't afford, expensive cars they can't afford ... a yacht payment ... vacations around the world ...

Too bad people just can't print money like Obama, huh?

I know .... I know ... way offer your head right?

                  Bush's economics / tax policy ....

Revenue in 2001 was $1.991 trillion.

Revenue in 2002 was $1.853 trillion.

Revenue in 2003 was $1.782 trillion.

                  Tax cuts

                  Revenue in 2005 was $2.153 trillion – UP 17%

                  Revenue in 2006 was $2.406 trillion – UP 26%

                  Revenue in 2007 was $2.568 trillion – UP 31%

                  Revenue in 2008 was $2.524 trillion – UP 29%

Bush had revenue in 2007 of $2.568 trillion with spending of $2.728 trillion for a deficit of $160.7 billion.

Obama had revenue in 2011 of $2.173 trillion with spending of $3.818 trillion for a deficit of $1.645 trillion – 10 TIMES Bush's deficit!

Bush inherited a nation at peace?

Yea ... Clinton peacefully ignored the 6 terrorist attacks that killed Americans during his presidency ... bin Laden became convinced America was nothing but a "paper tiger" and he had his boys fly airliners into buildings killing almost 3,000 Americans,

You forget that part, or would you have prefered Bush proving America was paper tiger little b*tch for the terrorists to play with?

Btw - The total cost of those 2 wars under Bush was $760 billion .... about half what Obama overspends a year.

"george w bush inherited a strong economy a budget surplus and a nation at peace"

george bush came into the whitehouse in the recession that started in 1999 and ended in 2002....i guess to idiots this means "strong economy"

whatever budget surplus there was went away with all the terror attacks and natural disasters we had.....but idiots blame geoge bush for that.

"a nation at peace" lol, really ? we had 60,000 troops in the persian gulf "containing" sadaam for the WMDs that clinton and the democrats said he was making.....

we had an al qaeda cell that had been in america since 1998 learning to fly jets

we had been hit in 2000 with the uss cole

and this was the "nation at peace" ?

wow, you really are redneck trash....and you could use an education.

. . . you forgot to mention everything in their calculation. They even stated that their model may not work because we had a depression like recession. They also stated their calculation will probably change in September. So stay tuned.

                  keck,

. . . and George W. failed to keep us safe by being asleep on the job from day one. 911 was avoidable. . . and George W. failed miserably with Afghanistan because Cheney wanted a war for Halliburton so his supply side economics would become true. Didn't care about the countless lives that were lost so his pocket book would fatten."Deficits don't matter!" if you give away money to the rich rather than the poor who need it. The only thing I am upset about with my President is not allowing the two war criminals to be prosecuted for their war crimes.

..sure right after we give bill clinton to the iraqis for his genicide trial.

and then we will charge clinton with his rendition program that he started in 1997....kidnapping, torture, false imprisonment.....crimes against humanity.

but the iraqis will get their chance for revenge on bill clinton first....clinton killed 1 million iraqis with sanctions and bombing suspected WMD sites from 1993-2000

                  war crimes ?....you bet.

AnaBanana - That is a damn lie that 911 was avoidable, maybe you should read the 911 Commission Report. I will admit he took his eye off the ball in Afghanistan and should not have gone into Iraq until Afghanistan had been completed. But President Bush did sign the SOFA that ended the American troops presence in Iraq, not President Obama. President Obama wanted to keep 3 to 5 thousand American military personnel in Iraq, but could not negotiate an agreement with the Iraqi Government, so Obama had no choice but to comply with the Bush SOFA which was ratified in Nov 2008.

BTW, why didn't Clinton do something about Osama Bin Laden when he had a chance after Sudan kicked him out of the country? Clinton allowed OBL to go to Afghanistan.

Clinton was too busy getting blowjobs. He dropped the ball on Bin Laden and 9/11 was the result.

Are you better off today than you were 4yrs ago? HELL NO and Obozocare is only going to make it worse. If it lasts it will cost the average taxpayer plenty. Obama says that he will charge the insurance companies and corporations taxes to help pay for it. And who do you think will end up paying? WE WILL.

A good 50% of the Uninsured are the 18-35yr old singles and marrieds with no kids. Traditionally the healthiest age group. According to the ruling they will be fined (Taxed) if they don't get health insurance, but if they are fined, they will not have to pay it. So tell me, if they aren't really going to have to pay for it, do you honestly think they will? Of course not. So who will be paying for it? WE WILL.

For a long time now I've been reading posts that people think that smokers and overweight people should pay a higher premium for health insurance. Of those "Uninsurable" which will be covered under this new plan how many of them are ill because of smoking or weight? And who is going to pay for them? WE WILL.

Now I do believe that anyone who wants health insurance should be able to get it, regardless of pre-existing conditions. That part of the plan I agree with. But they should be paying for it.

Taxpayers can't afford to bring on 40Mil odd new welfare recipients.

The Clinton recession actually started in June 2000 and ended in 2002. There have been some revisionist claiming that the recession happened at 911. Actually we 911 made the recession last longer, because numbers that appeared ready to turn around instead moved further south. True resessions are noted by 3 consecutive quarters of drop in GNP. One of the secondary occurrances is unemployment starting to increase. in the third quarter of decrease. Unemployment started increasing in January 2001, 6 months after the first decline in economic growth.

Then nobody has a plan whatsoever? Then whether we get OB or Mitt, we're screwed royally. It's really just a matter of who gets screwed more, upper or lower classes. That's where the philosophical line today has been drawn. Go ahead, take your pick.

I live in NC. You wanna know why Obama won here last time? He got almost all the Black vote. But this year a lot of black people are either not going to vote or vote for Romney. You can walk in a grocery store now and make a joke about Obama with black people and they will laugh. I don't think Obama will win this stae but it will be close.

I am an inquiring mind. last count. obama and romney in a dead heat. 46.7% oh btw you didn't mention, (i know a typing mistake) that obama is losing in "going in the right direction by 62% not and 31.6% as, And job approval 49% disapprove and 47.2% aproval rate. These two factors are going for romney. all; the other polls. bogus.

Barack Hussein Obama ll is not an American, but an Islamic socialist. Born from a Communist mother and socialist father. Raised in Indonesia by his step-father Lolo Soetoro, then later, sent to Hawaii to live with his Communist grandparents. There, Barry Soetoro (only 10 yrs. old) was mentored by a known Communist, Frank Marshall Davis and Barry’s grandparents, until he graduated from high school.

Barry entered Occidental College as Barry Soetoro, an exchange student from Indonesia. Two years later, he enrolled @ Columbia University where Obama networks with Marxist professors/followers, black radicals and Pakistani students.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Obama meets Bill Ayers, known terrorist and co-founder of the Underground Weather. Obama is inspired by Ayers to run for public office and is supported by the “New Party”, an organization that was originally called the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Barack Obama’s 20 yr. association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright had left Obama with many political scars and enhanced Obama’s desire for social order in government.

Today, Barack Obama still claims his devotion to Islam, while mocking Christianity. President Barack Obama plans to cut military spending in half, eliminating 80% of our defense weapons, including nuclear weapons and make the US dependent of energy, especially from petroleum oil. The economy is sliding back into recession, with a good chance to hit rock bottom. If this happens, the free world, as we know it, will be devastated. It will be then when the Islamic nations take over, with the help of Russia, ending democracy.

There is a dark side of Barack Obama that separates his ideals from those who live and believe in “We the People………….”. Form your own opinion, if you like, but mine rests heavily on the future of our great nation.

                          May God bless America.

Anybody who thinks you can cut taxes on the rich and run around playing the world's policeman and starting two new wars at the same time without wrecking your country's economy is an idiot.

Of course, we always knew Bush wasn't too bright.

Guess the rest of the GOP isn't either, since they want to do the same thing all over again.

This one was collapsed as well. Simply because they do not want to face opposition.

                                Romney and Ryan for Recovery

Ronmey has 5 lazy sons? They never served? They are kids. Has Obama served? No! As far as Tax records, has Obama released any records? NO!!!!! He and Michelle were both disbarred as well. He still has not proved he was born here. He is the furthest for a transparent president we have ever had. He has done nothing good in office yet. He has constantly had his goons playing the race card trying to reignite a civil war. A little clue for all of you. He is not Black, he is mixed race. He is just as White as Black. He doesn't care about women or life at all. He doesn't care about America at ALL. He doesn't care about the Constitution at ALL. He should not be in the race at ALL!

                                Mike - you're deluded.

                                All quotes are from FactCheck.org:

Obama has released 11 years of tax returns.

In 2008, for example, Barack Obama released seven years of tax returns to pressure then-Democratic primary opponent Hillary Clinton to follow suit.

(He has since release four additional years).

In more than three decades, no other nominees for either party have released fewer than five years’ worth of returns. Romney’s own father released a dozen years’ worth when he ran for the GOP nomination in 1968.

                                He was not "disbarred".

Q: Did Barack and Michelle Obama “surrender” their law licenses to avoid ethics charges?

A: No. A court official confirms that no public disciplinary proceeding has ever been brought against either of them, contrary to a false Internet rumor. By voluntarily inactivating their licenses, they avoid a requirement to take continuing education classes and pay hundreds of dollars in annual fees. Both could practice law again if they chose to do so.

And the birther thing is for imbeciles.

The evidence that Obama was born in the U.S.A. is so overwhelming that we haven't had much to say lately about the sort of bogus claims that Trump repeats. Hawaii's top official in charge of vital records stated long ago, for example, that the confidential records underlying Obama's official birth certificate show that he was born in Hawaii and is "a natural born American citizen."

But when a leading prospect for the Republican presidential nomination embraces and repeats these spurious claims and groundless conspiracy theories on national television, we are forced to wade into this swamp once again. For details of where Trump goes wrong, and full documentation of the facts, please read on to our Analysis section.

Have you seen Romney's birth certificate? His dad was Mexican, you know.

Lush Limballs, YOU LIE!!! Just like your namesake! President Obama released 7 yrs. of tax records. Every presidential candidate in recent history, including Sarah (airhead) Palin has released their tax records!!! I guess because Mitt the Twit is a multi-millionaire, he thinks he is above the rules and so does he snooty, fake plastic wife "Why are they picking on us"!! And President Obama and Michelle have not been disbarred, they put their practice on "hold" because, oh lets see, they are the President and First Lady and have been the last 4 years! Romneys sons are all adults and could have served in Iraq or Afghanistan. Obama was only a kid during Vietnam and in the 90s he would have been to old and was a civil rights lawyer in Chicago and then served as an Illinois Senator from 97-2004. He was a US Senator from 2005-2008 (who voted against the war) prior to becoming President! As far as his college transripts, they are irrelavant and nobody is asking to see Mitt's either. What we want to see is his tax returns because we think he is a tax evader and possibly has comitted a felony (lying to the SEC) which would disqualify him from running. I think this is why he is stalling! Something in those tax records is illegal or would turn voters off! Why would someone want to vote for a guy who is a tax cheater to the very country he wants to be president of? He does not care about the little people (99%) in this country, just the rich he is so beholden to as they have poured billlions into his campaign so he can be their little token puppet President and do their bidding. If Robme gets in, he will turn America into "Corporate Run America" run by the Koch Bros. (big oil), Grover Norquist (big @!$%#) Donald Trump (another big @!$%#) big insurance, big pharma, who will take us back 30 yrs. and privatize ss, slash medicare, medicaid and foodstamps and throw the middle, poor and elderly under the bus!! Say "no" to Olgarchy in November and vote straight Democrate! Obama 2012

We do not turn this country around now we will head towards another civil war. We at some point have to agree that everything is not free and the government works for us. They are not our Momma'a and Daddy's Hold them accountable and lets get an administration in there that can get something done. Headed for a civil war! Thats what a Texas judge has predicted if Obama wins thew election ! Guess the tea party won't accept an election defeat so will try to over throw the free elections that we are suppose to have. Guess I better go by some assault rifles to defend myself against my Tea party sons.

I'm not quite as old as Betty White but almost and I was homeless when Hoover was in office thanks to FDR that I now have social security as my only so-called hand-out and they think I should pay tax on it since I am one of the fifty percent that doesn't pay Tax.
