“There is nothing memorable about Mitt Romney’s speech,” he said, and that, he argued, was one reason why people in the news media and elsewhere were talking more about actor/director Clint Eastwood’s rambling convention speech – which Emanuel called “bizarre” -- than about Romney’s.
As Democrats often do, Emanuel blamed President George W. Bush’s policies for the 2008-2010 recession, the housing crisis, and the downturn in automakers GM, Chrysler and Ford. “The president inherited those things,” Emanuel told NBC’s David Gregory.

But now, Emanuel said, “through tough, hard work” by Obama, “the economy is not in a recession, (but it’s) not growing as fast as it needs to grow, the auto industry isn’t near collapse but actually is thriving, the financial industry that was once facing a meltdown is now actually starting, slowly but surely, lending again to homeowners, small businesses, and kids going to college. And do we stay on that course or the course that led to actually the disaster that he (Obama) inherited on Day One?”
President Barack Obama kicked off his "Road to Charlotte" tour with stops in multiple states on Saturday. NBC's Kristen Welker reports.
Emanuel said, “The president clearly understands the frustration the American people feel” because the economy is not growing quickly “and he is working on that to get this economy focused on the middle class.”
He also contended that the Nov. 6 election would be less a referendum on Obama’s performance than a choice between Republican economic proposals and Obama’s.
Emanuel said, for example, Romney would have allowed GM and Chrysler to go bankrupt in 2009 but Obama intervened to use federal money to resuscitate them.
Two days before the DNC convention, Republicans focus on the stagnant economy as Obama supporters spot holes in Romney's acceptance speech. NBC's Kristen Welker reports.
“If people want to know about the first term, very simple: General Motors is alive and well and Osama bin Laden is not,” Emanuel said, echoing a line used by Vice President Joe Biden.
As Obama’s chief of staff in 2009 and 2010, Emanuel helped secure the passage of the big pieces of Obama’s agenda, the $830 billion stimulus, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law, and the overhaul of the nation’s health insurance system.
In a statement Sunday, Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said, "Today, President Obama’s own surrogates admitted that we are not better off than we were four years ago. As the Chief of Staff in an administration whose failed policies have now left 23 million Americans struggling for work, Rahm Emanuel has no credibility when it comes to discussing the state of our economy or the state of our country."
As Obama heads into the DNC convention, some Democrats worry that he may be too confident. And in North Carolina, where the convention will take place, he will need to drive up support from women. NBC's Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell report.
Obama himself was campaigning Sunday in the hotly contested state of Colorado after a stop Saturday in another battleground state, Iowa, a state where he has campaigned seven times this year. And Obama will return to Iowa Friday for another campaign appearance.
Obama carried both Iowa and Colorado in 2008, each of them by 9 percentage points over GOP candidate Sen. John McCain, R- Ariz.
Obama will continue on Labor Day to Ohio, another battleground state which he carried by 4.6 percentage points in 2008, and then to Louisiana to inspect damage from Hurricane Isaac, before heading to Charlotte, N.C. for the Democratic convention.
The 6,000 Democratic delegates who will formally nominate Obama for a second term continued to stream in to Charlotte Sunday. Obama and Biden will address the delegates at the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte on Thursday night.
Then, the morning after Obama’s speech, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will issue the monthly jobs report for August. The most recent report for July showed that 12.8 million people were seeking work, with an 8.3 percent unemployment rate.
The unemployment rate peaked at 10 percent in October 2009 and has been above 8 percent for all but a few weeks of Obama’s presidency.

If the current president needs to spend this much money and this much time away from his real job than he does not deserve a second chance. I do not listen to what politicians say about other parties - They do not work TOGETHER - It's about what side introduced the bill and are killing this country. I hate a lot of things Obama has done, but there is not a better choice in this election. Obama is out to save the Middle Class and the Republicans are out to distroy it. While the Religious Right and the NRA Middle Class voters continue to support the Republican side - They are only hurting themselves - Unless they are wealthy. Had all parties worked together we would have not had the economic crash starting around 2007 and there would not been a deficit since it first came to be. I grind my teeth voting for Obama and if Romney get's elected - I'll be bankrupt within a year once his policies take effect. I'm barely getting by the way it is.
I can ONLY hope and PRAY that EVERYONE who votes this year - Make it a point to ELECT those who are really sincere about working together - Not supporting only Party lines.

The headlines from Chicago are grim since Rahm took over. Just recently shooting a block from Obama's house. I lived in Chicago for a few years and my family is from Chicago. Obama lives in a very nice neighborhood and thus shootings now appearing in that area is indication of a city in further decline. I am not solely blaming Rahm, because Daley spent decades ruining that city. I am saying Rahm cannot point any fingers or suggest he has answers, because at this point he does not.
I ABSOLUTELY blame both parties and I blame ignorant voters that have refused to do their homework for decades instead believing campaign rhetoric. If you still feel the need to blame the "other" party you are a part of the problem NOW. Both parties shared this country and the damage was done by BOOMERS. I am a boomer, and I am accepting that blame. So now it is time to rectify the many errors before it is too late. It may be too late already, but I am still hoping against the stats that say it is too late.
Rahm is another crude politician that needs to focus on his own job before giving out advice to voters. He needs to do his job and straighten out Chicago.
What does really bother me a lot is that Obama never visits the towns, cities, states, that have struggled for decades. He points the finger at Romney for not "feeling the pain", but I see no indication that Obama feels the pain either.
When Obama goes to Chicago to get campaign money and kudos, how about he spend a day or two talking with the many blighted areas of the Chicago Metroplex? I could give many suggestions about where they need to hear a hope message. How about starting in the church where Obama supposedly sent on Sunday to hear Wright? Instead of hearing an anti-American speech as Wright was known to give, how about Obama give a pro-American speech and change a few minds?
How about Obama visit Detroit and see how life is treating those folks? Obama gave 2 billion of hard earned tax payer money to invest in Brazilian oil fields, saying he expected to be one of their best customers. How about instead we spend these billions that apparently grow on trees and help put back many cities like Detroit that are struggling. I have kudos to the Mayor of Detroit and the Gov of MI trying to work together to show some results with so little. It is possible to see both parties work together to solve a nation's ills. But that would require shelving egos.

I find it interesting how Emanuel and other Obama supporters bend the truth. And the media doesn't correct statement that are factual untrue.
GM went bankrupt under the Obama Administration. The bailout occurred after then fact and actually bailed out the union pension fund. Other creditors lost their money - stockholders lost everything, bondholders lost the vast majority of the value of the bonds. The US government is currently the biggest shareholder of GM. Fiat now owns most of Chrysler - a "gift" from Uncle Sam in exchange for small engine technology - yes I am snickering.
Companies can come back after bankrupcy. Delta Airlines and United, the worlds largest airlines, also went bankrupt in the last decade. They are operating quite successfully without a massive government bailout.
Ford did not declare bankrupcy and has paid all its obligation. If the US governemnt hadn't intervened in GM, Ford would have gotten bigger market share gains.
Yes bin Laden is dead. But it took us so long to get him because he was hidden by our so called ally, Pakistan. By any measure - The Arab Spring, Iran nuclear ambitions, Syrian civil war - the Middle East is no more stable or pro-American than it was 4 years ago. Hardly an accomplishment for Team Obama.

Truthseeka, GM had been in financial decline for years. A company that large and that old doesn't just go bankrupt in a 3 month time frame. Yes the final blow happened in 2009. But their financial collapse started well before Obama even was running for the democratic nomination. Also it was Chrysler who got a bailout, not Ford. Ford dis ask for and recieve a $9 billion credit line, but took no money. Also this is not the first time Chrysler had foreign owners, Daimler did own them for a while. You are right many companies have come back from bankruptcies, however the airline industry bankruptcies happened in a much healthier economy. Now wether you agree on the auto bailout or not the damage could very well have crippled Detroit. Several publication including the NY times and LA times have stated that without the bailouts close to 2 million people would have been out of work very quickly and possibly another 2 million based upon ripple effects of those no longer spending money in their neighborhood.
And Romney need to focus on the economy and not Obama.

Facts are your friend, but truth is, you need to present ALL the facts to support your arguments. Latest reports show that most new jobs are low paying, minimum wage. The unemployment rate is irrelevant if people can't make enough to survive. The unemployment rate does not take into account people who no longer qualify for unemployment, so is actually estimated to be much higher. Obama did NOT end the war in Iraq, he followed a pre-arranged Status of Forces Agreement that specified our people had to be out by December 21, 2011 (signed before Obama took office). Obama tried to extend that in October and was shot down. While he's getting our people out of Afghanistan in 2014, he has committed the US to paying that country $4 BILLION per year for 10 years. (Nevermind he said he'd have our soldiers home within a year of being elected.) The budget cuts and bailouts have added how much new debt to our bottom line? Money that our grandchildren will be stuck trying to pay back. Consumer household debt is at an all time low because of the record number of bankruptcies and foreclosures in recent years. I over heard two young associates at Walmart say yesterday: "They used to pay a little extra for us to work on Sundays and holidays, but they've stopped that." To which the other replied, "It the cut in pay that has made it such a hardship for me. I'm trying to work and go to school, but the cut in our pay checks is making me choose between eating and school". These two young people were not loudly complaining, they were quietly sharing their mutual hardship. I just happened to be close enough to where they were to hear.

Interviewed for a potential full time position last week. The position "could lead to" full time employment. I would be brought on as a consultant first. If, taken on for full time, the owner would pay for all the health and dental insurance (not commonly done), but didn't know if he was going to continue to do so because of the ACA coming in 2014.

Barack Obama, lead Attorney for ACORN, successfully sued Citibank in 1994 under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) forcing banks to initiate more sub-prime loans nationwide, helping fuel the Sub Prime Loan Disaster.
According to Snopes, Obama was not the lead attorney in this lawsuit. And ACORN wasn't even involved.

If that's your real picture than you're probably too young to remember the lyrics from a Pink Floyd song (can't remember the name of the song but it's from The Wall) "I've got thirteen channels of **** on the t.v. to choose from...." That's what I think every time I try to find something to watch; nothing really interests me. I have basic cable, so in my head, I change the lyrics of that song to "I got 130 channels of **** on the t.v. to choose from..." Sometimes I watch the political talking heads, but that gets old fast. It seems I've seen everything on History and Discovery. But I digress.
Since there seems to be a lot of psychologists on this #18 thread, I'll add my two cents: Some people may actually believe they are providing people with information that will change minds and improve the national discourse. Others may just be taking delight in saying things that make other people angry. And I suppose it could be true that some "wait 'anxiously' for the little like butoon to go up so they feel special".
Sometimes I will click off of the page and then back on to see if anyone has replied to what I have said, and I will glance at that little arrow thing, but I can honestly say that I have never been "anxious" over whether anonymous people have liked my comment. I have noticed, however, that those comments that I post which are more short-tempered or rude get a lot more "like" responses. That's troubling, don't you think?

Laker I don't know but I do know Mr Romney is hiding his tax returns and has not released any complete return. Even the 2010 return is incomplete. It doesn't include the overseas accounts data form. Perhaps he is under investigation by the IRS or perhaps he paid the fine and asked for amnesty for not filing the required overseas data. Unless he releases his tax returns most Americans will assume he is a tax cheat.

All this to make the military more in line with the private sector. The private sector does not get shot at or have to endure the hardships the military face as part of their service. By the way if those cuts hadn't been in place we would have probably the amt of the deficit in the til. Romney wants to end loopholes. Poor people get loopholes too and in fact they probably really rely on stuff like mortgage interest, childtax credit, charity deductions and their taxes will be increased so they probably pay taxes at a higher rate than most of the rich. 3 or 4 or 5 hundred or 2 or 3 thousand is a lot of money to them. If you reduce taxes the amount of the deficit will just balloon. A lot of people can't connect the dots. We get money from taxes. During the last 8 or 9 years the rich have gotten those tax cuts and stuck them in their savings accounts. Billions. Even trillions. If someone can't pay their rent as in America is going broke would that person get a job paying less so they will have more money to go around. Of course not. They will try to cut items they don't need and try to increase their paynot lessen it. You wont resolve the problem of the under employed with Romney. His plan to bring in 1,250,000 high tech workers from India and China and give them instant citizenship will just create more. Romney claims there's a shortage of high tech workers but unemployment records show unemployment rates for those sectors is double what it was before the recession. He claims these new workers will create support jobs, like selling our new citizens Big Macs. The truth is tech workers from other countries work for far less. Even minimum wage is too much for Romney.

The problem is that the rich don't pay enought, it is that over half pay nothng. We need a flat rate tax for everyone. Corperations never pay taxes, they just add that to the cost of their products. If you triple the Corperate tax you will just be spending more on the products you buy, So food will go up, cars, rents, and everything else. It is like the minume wage. It goes up the cost of everthing goes up and you are right back were you started. I think liberials need economics courses, so they understand how the real world operates.
