Convention seeks to repair GOP erosion with women and Latinos

TAMPA, Fla. –  After a one-day delay, the Republican National Convention has kicked off, and the party’s overtures to women and Latinos – two groups with whom the GOP has lagged in this election cycle – will make up the centerpiece of Tuesday’s programming.

Some Republican Latinos regarded as rising stars in the party will be thrust into the national spotlight over the next few days, part of a comprehensive effort by the GOP to court Hispanic voters, an increasingly important voting bloc in several swing states.

Among the Latino speakers appearing at Tuesday's Republican National Convention session are Rep. Francisco Canseco, R-Texas, Sher Valenzuela, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Delaware, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, and Texas GOP Senate nominee Ted Cruz.

And Luce Vela Fortuno, the first lady of Puerto Rico, will introduce Ann Romney before her highly anticipated address.

All conventions are choreographed to send a very specific message to voters, and are intended to win additional support that the presidential candidate or party might not have been able to count on.

NBC Latino: Republican Latinos unite behind Romney and focus on the economy

But the stakes are particularly high for the GOP this cycle given Mitt Romney’s deficit with Latino voters, along with a similar disadvantage with women – groups whom the Obama campaign has assiduously courted as it charts a path toward re-election.

“The party has shot itself many times in the foot with the community; it hasn’t done all it could,” said Al Cardenas, the American Conservative Union chairman who’s long pushed for greater efforts to court Latinos. “The good news for Romney is that the party kind of hit bottom, so the arrow has nowhere to point but north.”

Republicans feel they’re putting forward more powerful voices than ever, though, in their bid to win over Hispanics. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s speech introducing Romney on Thursday is one of the convention’s most highly anticipated, as are the speeches by Cruz and Sandoval.

“I think the GOP putting our five highest-level elected Latinos as speakers at the convention is really a very good thing,” said Ana Navarro, a Florida-based Republican strategist.

President George W. Bush won 44 percent of the Latino vote in his 2004 re-election bid, and Arizona Sen. John McCain won 31 percent of the Latino vote in 2008. Both were proponents of comprehensive immigration reform.

In the most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll, Romney won the support of just 23 percent of registered Latino voters – an ominous sign, especially since Hispanic voters are wielding growing influence in several swing states.

“If the polls are accurate, and Romney is under 30 percent – in the high 20s with Latinos – it really is very concerning,” said Navarro.

“If the needle doesn't move, put a fork in Romney because he's done.”

Democrats have been dismissive of Republican efforts to court Latinos as mere lip service for Hispanic voters and their concerns.

A political panel joins Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss the start of the RNC and preview Mitt Romney's speech on Thursday.

"You can't just trot out a brown face or a Spanish surname and expect people are going to vote for your party or your candidate," said Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at a press conference Tuesday morning.

But arguably just as pressing for Republicans this week is their need to eat into Obama's and Democrats’ advantage among women.

Obama led Romney 51 percent to 41 percent among women in the August NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, and the GOP brand lags significantly behind the Democratic brand among women voters. Forty-five percent of women in the August poll had a favorable impression of the Democratic Party, while 36 percent had an unfavorable view; women voters had a 36 percent positive view of the GOP, and a 47 percent negative view.

Republicans are hopeful that Tuesday evening’s speeches by Ann Romney and Washington Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers will help soften women’s views of the party, especially on the heels of Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s recent comments about rape.

Other prominent GOP women taking the stage tonight are Gov. Nikki Haley, R-S.C., Gov. Mary Fallin, R-Okla., and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte (a rumored member of Mitt Romney's vice presidential short list).

“We’re not in territory where we can’t win … you can lose women by 7 to 8 points and win the election,” said Sara Taylor Fagen, a former communications director in the Bush administration. “We’re in territory with Hispanics where, if over the long term we don’t improve, we can’t win.”

Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, answers questions from the media on board their campaign plane on Aug. 28, 2012 en route to Tampa, Florida, for the Republican National Convention.

The Obama campaign has seized on instances where Republicans seemed to target access to contraception this past year in order to strengthen its advantage among women; it's backed up that message with millions in television advertising.

California Rep. Mary Bono Mack, a Republican who supports abortion rights, said earlier today on MSNBC that she wished the GOP would use “softer” language in its platform when it comes to reproductive rights.

“I think that we would be better served if we loosened that up a bit,” she said.

But Republicans might be better served to stay the course with their emphasis on the economy and health care rather than contraceptive issues.

“Women in this campaign who are going to vote on the basis of social issues have already probably decided for Barack Obama,” she said.

It doesn't matter how soft they try and sell it, the GOP's platform is that women have NO reproductive rights whether they be white, black, asian, latin, etc. The problem is they are women and pale, male, and stale want to be in charge of them.

Actually, I'd love to hear Romney talk about his "Jobs" record while he was Governor of Massachusetts.

Maybe Romney could explain why he came in 47th out of 50 in job creation, unless of course he was still practicing his same old "vulture capitalistic" ways, which is the only way Mitt knows how to make money!

Oh SURE! Nothing like a stay-at-home millionaire that has a one million dollars horse for "terrapheutic"purposes, telling women to "like" the GOP. After all, most women in this country can afford a couple of cadillacs and 8 homes, coupled with swiss bank accounts.

Red Sox,

FACT: The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) is tasked with making binding recommendations to Congress for lowering health care spending should costs increase too rapidly. The panel's plan will modify payments to providers but cannot "include any recommendation to ration health care, raise revenues or Medicare beneficiary premiums…increase Medicare beneficiary cost- sharing (including deductibles, coinsurance, and co- payments), or otherwise restrict benefits or modify eligibility criteria" (Section 3403 of the ACA). Its members are appointed by the president but confirmed by the Senate. Ryan himself proposed two IPAB like structures in a 2009 health plan.

Considering the monumental and mismanagement of the Romney talking points, one can only imagine their message of appeasement will be to force all Latino women to have abortions with the exception of rape - those will be forced pregnancies. And for white women voters, the message of appeasement will be Ann sharing her coveted recipes for Welsh-Cakes.

Way to bring them in Romney - one gaffe at a time. Hey Mitt, can you tell us that really, really funny birther joke again, that was simply hysterical <snark off>.

Obama should be the one who has to fight for the female vote. Especially white, middle aged females after his slash, and attack performance against both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.

His plan to give amnesty to thousands of illegals living in this country was/is nothing more than shameless pandering to the hispanic vote.

No "change" there from the way things were done by every other politician.

The idea that the Right is at war with women, and that any 'sensible woman' would vote Democrat, is so ridiculously radical and illogical that it's not even funny. The reality is that the issue of abortion is just as evenly split among women as among men. Guess what, libs, not all women want the right to kill their babies, or want other women to have that right. SOME (about half, actually) women think that an unborn baby is still a human being and shouldn't be killed without just cause (such as threatening the life of the mother). To say that they aren't real women, don't count, or aren't really thinking, is such a radically sexist approach that the leftist feminist movement (who's leaders have repeatedly said exactly those things) should be anathema to proper discourse. Instead, they have informed most of the modern discussion of the topic with their hate, lies, and ad hominem attacks.

I'll give you all a hint: the real argument has nothing to do with whether women have rights or not. It's really all about whether the fetus has rights or not. If it doesn't, if it's just a lump of tissue and nothing more, then women hardly need any rights to justify abortions. If it does, if it really is a human being, then claiming that a woman has a right to kill it just because it's inconvenient is flat out monstrous, and one begins to understand calls to put abortion doctors on trial for murder. THAT is the issue, not 'women's rights'.

Republicans have raised all sorts of unmitigated hell about "low life Hispanics" living in this country. Additionally, they have relegated the role of women as "subservient fools" lacking the sense and purpose of proper understanding of their innate vaginal functions. Republicans; you have what you have, from where you are right now, and that is at best, "one pack of fools to another pack of fools". I would not count many women and Hispanics among either.

Very true, Seeking. In order to repair its relationship with women voters, the GOP would have to denounce Ryan and his war against women's reproductive rights. To build a bridge to Latino voters and other minorities, Republicans would have to renounce racism and bigotry; two of the main planks in the Republican Party's political ideology. Like that will ever happen, sadly.

A fetus gets it's own rights when it no longer needs it's mother to live! What is so hard to understand about common sense??? These idiot pro-lifers (or more accurately, pro-coat hangers) argue that the gov't is committing murder by allowing abortions to continue, essential arguing that the gov't is committing murder when it has the ability to save a life but chooses not to. If this is true, then they must also believe that all life-saving health care procedures should be provided by the gov't for free. Or do they believe that only SOME human life is sacred?

What is really ridiculous is that we know for a fact that abortions are more numnerous in countries where they are banned. This isn't proof of causality, but it is proof of correlation, most likely due to the fact that countries where abortion is illegal have generally lower levels of education, including sex education. Which means these idiot pro-lifers are not actually saving babies' lives, they're just pushing abortions underground where they can't see them and thus keep their consciences clean. My question for them is: what is more important to you? Keeping a clean conscience or actually reducing instances of abortion?

Progressives, enjoy the ObamaWagon negative campaign ads and Progressive media rants while you can.

Mr. Obama will be providing the American people with one last photo-op when he gives a Mr. Nixon wave as he boards Marine 1 for his last trip off the White House lawn on his journey to move into a home next to Mr. Jimmy Carter in Georgia.

Romney-Ryan 2012 to take back America from the radicals.

Yeahh...right!!

Bottom line is, 8 years of Bush policies are what got us here in the first place, and the Republicans in Congress are fighting the President every step of the way as he tries to dig us out of this mess. They are just stalling for time, hoping they can pull off a Hail Mary come November.

Can't wait to cast my vote, go home, grill a steak & watch Obama's landslide victory unfold. I might take the next day off just to listen to Limbaugh have a stroke on-air!! LOL!!!!

It doesn't matter how Republicans TALK to women. It's what you are doing. Change your platform. Stop fighting women on equal pay for equal work. Make affordable child and health care part of your issues. Other than doing that, stop talking to us like we are children and you know what is best for us. We are repeatedly telling you what we want and need. You just aren't listening.

Dem4Freedom, you are entitled to your opinion. I am old enough to know the reasons the Supreme Court finally passed Roe V Wade. Many women died for lack of this ruling.

Back then it was common for women to get pregnant when their doctor had told them another pregnancy would kill them. My grandmother had 5 children in 7 years. You are probably too young to realize what brought this all the way to the Supreme Court:

Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), is a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of abortion. Decided simultaneously with a companion case, Doe v. Bolton, the Court ruled that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion, but that right must be balanced against the state's two legitimate interests in regulating abortions: protecting prenatal life and protecting women's health. Arguing that these state interests became stronger over the course of a pregnancy, the Court resolved this balancing test by tying state regulation of abortion to the trimester of pregnancy.

The Court later rejected Roe's trimester framework, while affirming Roe's central holding that a person has a right to abortion until viability.[1] The Roe decision defined "viable" as being "potentially able to live outside the mother's womb, albeit with artificial aid", adding that viability "is usually placed at about seven months (28 weeks) but may occur earlier, even at 24 weeks."[2]

C. Smith: There are a lot of women, me included, who are anti-abortion, but we are pro-choice. I may not choose, myself, to get an abortion (it would depend on the circumstances), but I DO feel I should have the right to make that choice myself (with the assistance of my doctor and my spouse, or significant other). If I were raped, I would certainly consider an abortion immediately (not 6-8 months later). If the child was severelyd deformed and not expected to live a good life outside the womb....I might consider an abortion (again, not 6-8 months into the pregnancy). If having the child would be detrimental to my health....again, it would be MY decision. There are ALOT of circumstances for a woman to consider abortion, and we should have the right to make the decision based on those individual circumstances! There's NO man in the U.S., or the world for that matter, who should have the right to tell a woman what to do with their body. A spouse has the right to discuss it with his wife and come to a mutual decision, but the final decision will always have to be the woman's since it's HER body, her feelings, and her health. So, please don't think that just because someone is pro-choice that this means they are anti-abortion.....it's not always the case. It's all based on the individual circumstances, and it should be left up to the woman as to whether those circumstances warrant abortion or not.

Just my opinion......but I'm sure there are many woman who would agree. So, until you personally have been raped and made pregnant, or until maybe a wife or daughter was raped and gotten pregnant by the rapist....you really have nothing to say about women's rights, fair enough?

The GOP has NOTHING:

Issues where Romney has yet to state his position:

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT – Said he is not familiar with the issue

PAYCHECK FAIRNESS ACT - Said he was not interested

PAYROLL TAX HOLIDAY - I'm not going to throw gasoline on what is already a fire

MISSISSIPPI PERSONHOOD - Repeatedly refused to take a position on this bill

AFGHANISTAN - Leave it up to military contractors/U.S. military commanders

IMMIGRATION - Still deciding what his position is and won't say if he will undo the EO

Romney: just another GOP flip-flopper

If women have birth control, they won't need abortions. The lifers, want all birth control taken away from women. They do not want birth control, abortions. But they do not want to help support and feed the children that are born, they are hypocrites. What right does Romney or Ryan have to tell me if I can use birth control? I would not have an abortion, but sometimes a pregnancy will go wrong and the life of the mother is at stake. Are you willing to decide if the mother should die? What happens to her other children and husband.

Here is the bottom line that should scare the crap out of everyone who supported or now supports Obama!!!

    1) Obama has increased our national debt by well over 5 trillion dollars in just 3 ½ short years. That is $4.24 billion per day increased debt! This is more debt than was accumulated by all U.S. presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton combined and is destined to destroy the future of every household in America, end of story!

Were this the private sector, any CEO in America would have been summarily fired for this type of “criminal handling” of American fiscal policy!

    2) Obama’s reckless spending has been so devastating that, even if clear thinking America’s could vote him out of office, it would take a permanent, across-the-board tax increase of 60% just to begin to balance the budget within the next 10 years. Think about that for a minute. The impact of such reckless spending has the potential to force
90% of currently working Americans into living in utter dire poverty.

For those who think that can’t happen, think again!!!

Here is the greatest irony of all. This chat is replete with comments fromthose who believe the upcoming election is about Democrats vs. Republicans. Privately the “Obama administration strategists” characterize these people as one dimensional, intellectually compromised, single issue constituencies

They have chosen to set sail on an economic ship that is destined to destroy all aboard. Only a FOOL would fail to count the cost! What will you do when America undergoes a complete economic collapse and everything you hold dear will be utterly destroyed. How will you eat, where will you sleep, how will you feed your family.

Anyone with even a scintilla of intellectual acumen need only glimpse at the impact "Obama style socialism" has had in Europe to bear witness to America's future under Obama. On the verge of defaulting on government debts, people are living under crushing austerity measures. Countless jobs have been wiped out; the official unemployment rate is 15-21%.

Salaries have been cut to the bone. Pensions and health benefits have been slashed. Tourism industry is a shambles. Tens of thousands of workers have taken to the streets to protest a problem they thought they'd never see in their lifetime! In picturesque plazas, beggars outnumber tourists and protesters outnumber beggars.

In front of Parliament, riot police stand watch to protect big spending socialist lawmakers from angry mobs!

My God, wake up you fools!

It doesn't matter how soft they try and sell it, the GOP's platform is that women have NO reproductive rights whether they be white, black, asian, latin, etc. The problem is they are women and pale, male, and stale want to be in charge of them.

AmericanGirl, lemme clue you in on a great big lie of the liberal party. Ending the life of an innocent child is not a "right." It's murder. Even if it were a valid choice, it isn't even in your best interest. Your reproductive rights boil down to adoption, raising the child, and aborting before term through sterility drugs.

Let's say you get raped. You have the right to dose yourself with sterility pills (partial birth abortion is needlessly cruel), which won't profit you anything as for as the rape is concerned. Or you could give it to adoption (even putting it on someone's steps), and have the child without the duty of caring for a child that was someone else's doing. Or you can have a child, and nail his *** for child support. Abortion is a right of a man, not a woman. A man gets to get away with rape, and an innocent child is sacrificed for it. You should have the right to abort in cases of rape or such, but this right is really stripping the woman of another right, the right to use their child in the perfect revenge, not being stopped by it (if you can do that through success in career without this is good too, but a better one is taking the shame of rape into a child you can be proud of).

As a white middle-aged male who is also a small-business owner, I know that I am highly valued and courted constantly by the GOP and Romney campaign. I can't say that I'm flattered. Instead, I'm playing hard to get. I have serious reservations with a corporate vulture that eats small businesses like mine everyday for breakfast just to get him started on a day of pilfering and plunder to consume much larger game.

How would I feel if I had been passed by, ignored and then pissed on by these power hungry louts in their hurry to grab the brass ring of ultimate power? It was never me. It was women, blacks and Latinos.

Wait! They have discovered they are mere inches away from reaching that elusive ring of power. They now know the ring is unreachable without the support of those they easily trashed so early on. No problemo. Just reach into that bag of dirty tricks and pull out a few token women, blacks and Latinos to place in the spotlight. They will all come rushing back to the embrace of the wealthy elite.

Is that how it works? Hell no? I didn't think so.

Either they have chosen to be losers and give up all of their rights by standing with them, or they want to keep their rights and adopt a more progressive viewpoint of the world. It's really as simple as that. Frankly, I think the conventions are a complete waste of time and money...especially in this election. People have already made up their minds. There is no way in this election that many are sitting on the fence. Frankly, we could vote today and be done with it in imho. Would save a lot of money that way too...and it certainly would save us having to listen to all the BS that is flying around and will continue to do just that until the election. I've turned my TV off. It's all worthless to me. I won't be changing my mind, and I'd just as soon get on with life.

A zygote is not a child, it is a mass of parasitic cells that attach to a host (the woman) and feed off its nutrients.

If you are so emotionally attached to a mass of parasitic cells, that you can no longer see logic, that is your own downfall. But you do not have the right to force other people to follow your overly-emotional, and illogical, line of thinking.

Here's a simple request. Find me a Republican candidate and explain to me how the GOP platform, coincides with the following concerns I face as a young, American, woman, and I will vote Republican...

        1. To be paid equally to a man who holds an equivalent position, educational level, and skill in a position. To be allowed and given knowledge into the pay and/or promotional systems of my employer and to be given recourse against said employer if I'm being treated unjustly.

        2. To be able to utilize our justice system if I fall victim to a gender based crime or tort, allowing me to achieve equitable justice to the infraction committed against me. To be able to do this, without the scorn or mistrust of the very people who should be working to protect and serve me.

        3. To have access to healthcare specific to my gender, equal coverage to that of a man, and to not be seen as a preexisiting condition solely because of my gender. To not be held hostage to the functions of my body.

        4. If I fall upon hard times, to have access to reasonable social programs that both empower and support my family and I, so that I may be able to rebuild my life and gain control of my circumstances.

        5. In the lack of a compelling government interest and the scientific evidence that would create that interest, be allowed my right to privacy and governance of my own personal choices.

Now, find me a GOP/TP candidate that falls in line with those desires, and I will gladly vote for them.

I read MSNBC did not cover the minorities who spoke. Is this true? Just stating their names in an article does not grab the heart of a person like the stories they told of how Obama and the Democrats policies are destroying the minorities lives ... who are trying to reach the dream. Some have their own business for 40 years ... and, Obama's policies are putting those businesses at risk.

Is it true? Were the minorities not shown on MSNBC?

I believe the only two speakers who could be considered minorities, besides women (who there weren't a whole lot of), were Condaleeza Rice and Marco Rubio. I could be wrong, though.

Sure, some minorities feel more aligned with the GOP platform, but that's the exception, not the rule. All you have to do is look at any poll, generated from any source.

Why should I prove your case for you. Where did YOU get your information, that you are now trying to tell me is the truth? Make your own case.

However, I did google it, and the only sites that covered anything like that were conservative blogs. NOT, non-partisan, reputable journalists. Also, all they listed was median pay. Not, that women were getting paid less, for doing the same jobs as men. If they don't even list what jobs, get paid what, and then break the specific jobs down into gender categories, how on earth, do you really know? Medians tell us nothing, they're way too general.

That is the crux of equal pay for equal work, you know. Not, that we should all be paid the same, but that we should be paid the same for doing the same job.

What happened to the 'bleeding heart' part of the bleeding heart liberal? I've still got mine.

Anyway, the reason I said to go to 'Google' and take your pick is because people tend to not trust some websites as much as others, so I figured you could pick which one you tended to trust.

Ther is nothing wrong with being Pro Choice

The problem becomes when you expect others to believe as you do.

My wife and i would never abort a child for any reason. But in the same tone we would never tell you what to do with your pregnancy.

Americans can't even take care of all children we have that are unwanted why should we force more.

Republicans want to abandon the Afordable care Act and deny unborn childrenhealth care. Who is bullsh,it

The bible thumpers or the Democrats.

If they meant it they would show it

Think about this and see if you see the Democrats in the same light. When President LB Johnson created the 'Great Society', he also said, "I will have the *nnn's* voting Democrat for the next 200 years". LBJ knew that dependency meant Democrat votes. LBJ did not care that dependency took the fire of life and dreams away from people. LBJ wanted to 'depend' on plenty of 'dependents' who had no choice, but to vote Democrat because the Democrats owned their next meal and the roof over their heads.

Think about Obamacare (YOUR HEALTHCARE), food stamps, welfare, the government not creating budgets and continuing to find reasons to add to the debt ... which creates uncertainty ... which creates an environment where businesses do not add jobs ... which creates continued high unemployment ... which creates more people DEPENDENT on government.

LBJ was correct. Is that the 'new normal' that you really want for the USA and your children and grandchildren?

I have heard the story over and over it doesn't fly

$11 trillion belongs to Bush and the Republicans according to Karl Rove and his smear ads only $5 trillion is credited to Obama. Every single economist in this country and my experience has shown the governments participation in rebuilding the economy is the only way it will work. I quit school at 15 because we were so poor i have come along way and i have worked in consrtuction for 42 years seeing at least 7 recessions

Health care is here to stay no Republican in the world will have the power to undo it.

We are not a nation of me, we are a nation of we and if you cant participate in the common good for all of America than maybe you are in the wrong country. (Republican Party)

Your party will never be permitted to dismantle the America we know and sell it to the rich. I have a very difficult time even talking to a Republican under any circumstance as i find they're logic and information lacking and not in tune with the American idea.

Welfare according to the CBO is les than 7/10s of 1 % not even a issue worth discussion.Mitt Romney doesn't believe what he is saying people see that

Your team has run aground, you have no leadership to make your agenda believable. I can assure you leadership is not Mitt Romney nor any of the buffoons your party has presented. Go away get the Republican House in order and then you will have a debate. Your crowd is to far out for America today.

Your Party is too full of hate and short on debate thats how it is done debate not my way or the hiway

I do not know if you are talking to me or not. If you are, then you are barking up the wrong tree suggesting I 'get the Republican House in order'. I am a lifelong Democrat who in the past year changed to Unaffiliated.

Why? Because I do not even recognize the Democrats. Sorry, but, I know altruism versus behavior to control others when I see it.

LBJ's plan worked. You can hem and haw about it all day long. It worked. Look in the inner cities. It worked.

Control people's lives and they give up. They give up rights. And, I knock myself in the head everyday for being so blind. For so long, I have wondered how could I be a bleeding heart liberal ... and, it seems the Democrats lost the bleeding heart part. I still have mine. I would never call names or be violent.

There is a former black panther who has a documentary, and, a movie trailer is on FOX NATION. It is entitled 'Runaway Slave'. And, this movie trailer does not mince words. It will hit you between the eyes. If you want an opinion other than mine or yours, then might I suggest you watch it.

Google ' Black Conservatives Explore New Slavery In Obama's Welfare State In New Film'. You may agree or disagree. It is very thought provoking in terms of our future.

When Rush was lying and calling Sandra Fluke a prostitute and slut (no, she never wanted tax dollars to pay for birth control because of all the sex she was having), when asked his opinion on Rush's unjustifiable attacks, Romney bravely took a stand and said, "Those weren't the words I would use."

He use to be strongly pro choice, because he lost a family member due to a botched illegal abortion, now he would be "delighted" to sign a ban against ALL abortions (there is multiple videos that show him saying he would love to sign a bill banning all abortions), so it shows he doesn't even care whether a woman lives or dies due to complications in pregnancies or how he knows that some women will still seek out dangerous and illegal abortions.

Frankly, it's impossible for Romney, evidently to remember what he said from one day to the next on any particular subject. Life is tough when you are a politician without principles who will say (and do?) anything to get elected. Let's hope he doesn't have a pet anymore. Those five sons of his would add a lot to the next war we're likely to get into if the Repubs. take over the White House and Congress. I'll guess rioting in the streets UNLESS military conscription is reinstated in tht case. Of course the riches t of the rich like Romney or Cheney can always get deferments for any number of rich men'skids, just like Mutt Romney himself did back in Vietnam times when he posed as a Mormon missionary to avoid being sent to Vietnam. And today he claims to wish he'd been able to go!!!!Yeah, right Mutt. Better forget that little regret and put Ann back in the closet. Her baking cookies, wearing her $900 blouse on a tv show designed to show she's just another housefrau adoring her big, brave, handsome hubbie isn't working anymore than your act is working.

Most numbers and historical info support a narrow Romney victory. If that holds true, I can't wait to see what you guys are saying in here after the election.

Most people just want a job with some stability right now, and no one really thinks this election is about women's rights, murder, or what ever you want to call abortion. This is a non-issue brought up by the far left trying to paint an obstract of the opposing party. It won't work this year.

Regarding immigration, I tend to be pretty liberal on this issue. But, once someone gets here, by whatever means, conservative financial policies offer them a much better lifestyle than liberal policies. Fiscal conservatives want to give legitimate immigrants a job, while liberal financiers want to give them food stamps. The liberal plan makes them a slave to the system once they arrive in any fashion.

I suppose that's still better than where they came from, but far from the American dream. Liberals call it help, but I see it more as the infamous chains Joe spoke of recently. Oh well, as long as liberals feel good about their actions I guess it doesn't matter what immigrant gets hurt as a result.

I like the hispanic leaders in the GOP these days, Cruz is brilliant and so are the others I've heard speak. They are the leaders young hispanics in America need.

I am so ready for the R and D parties of America to go the way of the Whig party.

Maybe when your social security check won't cover one week of living expenses you might care.

Maybe when you freely speak your mind and the government detains you, you might care.

Maybe when your taxes continually go up and all you receive is more wars you might care.

Maybe when the value of your home keeps plummeting or the money in your bank account you have been saving your whole life becomes nearly worthless, you might care.

Maybe when your aunt with cancer is arrested for possession of a joint to ease her pain, you might care.

Maybe just maybe there is something to get people to care enough to oust the traitors we have elected and once again have the people in control of the election process and not the corporations.

                                Our choices:

                                The Obama's:

Who only paid off their college loan a few years before getting into the White House.

Couldn't rent a car in 2004 because his card didn't have a high enough limit.

                                The Romney's:

Ann talking about how tight things were in college that they had to consider selling some stock from their portfolios.

Ann talking about "struggling" to raise their children while living in a 7 bed 61/2 bath mansion or their 5,000 sq ft lake front home on 11 acres.

Hmmmm, who will fight for the middle class? Who will fight for equal pay for women? Who will fight for student loans?

Obama/Biden 2012 for women, for families, for a better America for all, not just the top 1%!

in the middle: Romney calls himself a great businessman, and he certainly made a lot of money for HIMSELF by putting a lot of other people OUT OF BUSINESS. However, when he was governor of Massachusetts, the state was 47th in job creation... Not a good record for a "businessman" who is selling himself as someone who understands "business." Just how much can he, a past governor who did so poorly with helping his own state with jobs, do with the entire US economy? And, the President does not do this by himself. The President has to deal with Congress. Congress has not been kind to President Obama. Romney has a steep hill to climb: he was for abortion before he was against it; he created the program in MA that is now Obamacare, which he now threatens to overturn as his first item on the agenda. Who knows what he will change once he is in office?? Who knows on what line of what he stands for? The man can't be trusted, and it isn't clear what he really knows.

Obama is far and away the better choice. Romney is trying to make this a referendum on Obama, but I want this to be an election of us, everyday Americans, telling the Republicans NO! No more pandering to extremists. NO! We do not want an Plutocracy!

I urge everybody to check out the interview with Chris Hedges at TRUTH-OUT.org.

This Republican Party is the ultimate result of the way America began--as a ruthless invasion by capitalists who slaughtered the natives wholesale and plundered the land with slogans such as "Manifest Destiny."

It's all about money. The rich have discovered how to reduce populations to poverty, imposing fear of losing all security, to raise a nation of puppets. So long as we have the latest electronic gizmos and dummy up to the TV screen for hours a day (distractions created by corporations), we're just giving ourselves up to subsistence living at the hands of the Masters of the Universe.

We have one option left, and only one: peaceful revolution of the majority. We need to educate people who consistently vote against their own interests, not alienate them.

                                Read the interview!

Any American with even a scintilla of intellectual acumen must recognize that Obama and his democratic cronies have ridden roughshod over the most reckless fiscal policy in the history of this nation. That criminal rate of increase is 350% worse than the Bush record and is destined to create the most devastating economic Tsunami in the history of the industrialized world!

However, what I find truly surprising is the blindly ignorant rhetoric of his constituents.

Jobs: The president has presided over the loss of 2.3 million jobs.

Debt: Obama has increased taxpayer debt by $5.3 trillion. Every day,
the nation runs a deficit of $4.2 billion, 350% worse than the Bush record

Foreclosure and Bankruptcy: 2.7 million homes have been foreclosed on. Homeowners and businesses have declared 4 million bankruptcies.

The Stimulus: Obama promised that his $787 billion stimulus would save
or create 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. He came up 7.3 million jobs
short of his goal, according to the Heritage Foundation.

Healthcare: Obamacare did not reduce healthcare costs as promised and
is in fact responsible for increasing costs in 2011. Health insurance premiums are up 17 percent.

Poverty: Nearly 3.3 million more Americans live in poverty than did
before as a direct result of his reckless fiscial policies.

Politics aside, only the most economically ignorant of Americans could support Obama and the democratic party’s handling of the economy. Monetizing of this debt will create a hyperinflation certain to destroy the economic stability of virtually every household in America.

This next election will be the most important in the history of our nation! WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

CLEARVOICE2: You do realize the Heritage Foundation was created by the Koch Brothers to drum up lies so the corporate agenda could dominate us all? You do realize the GOP is honoring David Koch at their convention, and that he is the real President of the nation now?

The fact is, Obama's spending less than any president since long before Reagan. Here's the irrefutable chart:

                                chart-obama-radically-less-spending.jpg

The deficit continues to spiral because: 1) Bush declared two wars, a Medicare drug benefit that never existed before, "No Child Left Behind," and an enormous tax break for the rich--while failing to put any of it in the federal budget, paying for none of it, 2) Bush created socialism for banks with "too big to fail," spending billions on TARP--and failing to pay for it, then 3) Congress, refusing to do its job, brought our entire economy to the brink of collapse over a debt ceiling they previously approved 78 times since 1960 (49 times under Republican presidents, only 29 under Dem presidents), 5 times under Bush, causing 4) our credit rating to drop for the first time ever, which in turn, 5) has caused THE INTEREST ON BUSH'S DEBT TO RISE!

                                Debt ceiling info: #.UD1QoI7A7ao

Also, RYAN'S SO-CALLED BUDGET WOULD RAISE THE DEBT CEILING 8 TIMES, so pay more attention to the facts!!

Since 1980, our nation has been cutting taxes and cutting taxes--especially for the wealthy--while spending has been steadily increasing. Obama has contributed to this problem far less than other presidents!

                                Read:

This article shows economists agree austerity programs and greater tax cuts will ruin our economy, not help it. Look what austerity programs are doing to Europe and Great Britain.

But this is what the rich want! The more poverty increases, the more control they have. The unions are gone--only 6% of USA employees are unionized now--and all the benefits our grandfathers won for us with blood, sweat, and tears, has evaporated.

This is the corporate plan. Meanwhile global banks are price-gouging by fixing rates (the LIBOR scandal), and the rich want to shrink government so it cannot regulate anything. The bullies have already taken over!

And you're their next target. IU pity you, that you can only spout the Koch Brothers' talking points, when you are, in fact, their among their victims.

Motherof2+1, did you take maternity leave from your 12 hours a day in the coal mines to carry your 2+1? Did you insist Hubby take a couple days off work to help you when you came from the hospital after giving birth? I have the utmost respect for stay at home mothers that take full responsibility for the children and the home.

I have absolutely no respect for those that callously accuse others of being lazy while they have absolutely no knowledge of the tribulations of the accused. My short 61 years of life have taught me that accusers of laziness are most often well experienced on the subject by their own laziness.

Mother of 2+1: "Freedom, Liberty, and Self-Reliance" are meaningless terms unless you investigate what is meant by them.

Freedom means allowing women to choose what happens to their own bodies. It is not freedom if women have no say about their bodies.

Liberty means our government has full authority under the Constitution to regulate interstate commerce to promote the general welfare of the people of the nation, and that we the people get to choose our leaders without the restrictions the GOP are trying to impose. Liberty does not mean selling our democracy to the highest bidders, as Citizens United has. Liberty means freedom from the multinational corporate agenda that's destroyed our very culture.

Self-reliance? What a joke. For republicans, that means only "All for me, and scr-- you and everybody else! It means keep the house divided, who cares if it fails?? In a global world, it means, LOSE EVERYTHING. Humanity is a social species.

Well Dee, I see that Freedom for you means being able to kill your own baby, even if the father wants him/her. What restrictions are the GOP trying to impose? Oh, you mean having an ID card. Well, yes that will make it difficult for all of the illegal and dead Democrats to vote now wouldn't it. You have to show ID to get a damn library card, but Democrats huge protest only furthers the suspicions that they are gaming the system. That same SCOTUS that voted for Citizens United also voted for Obamacare so looks like a draw. And finally self-reliance, it is a joke to Democrats who just want to sit back and get "free" stuff. That stuff now has us $16T in debt and Obama will push it well over $20T if reelected. Obama is the great divider, pitting the haves against the have-nots, religious against secular, etc., etc., etc.

No, they have two "representations" of the clasical GOP women; Ann Romney, that has NEVER worked one day on her life, has NO IDEA what the word struggling means, and Nicky Healy, the Governor of South CArolina, that took away the funding in South Carolina for the victims of rape and comestic violence.

According to the GOP, they "represent" most of the women in this country. Dingbats!

If Democrats and Obama are so supportive of women, why did Obama and the Democrats block a GOP initiative that would ban drugs, which treat sexual dysfunction, from Obamacare coverage, from sex offenders.

The, unsuccessful, GOP Amendment would have denied coverage for such drugs (Viagra, etc.) to rapists, pedophiles and sex offenders.

The coverage Obamacare provides rapists, etc. was not accidental. The GOP raised the issue, yet although it would protect women and would be contraceptive, Obama and the Democrats wouldn't hear about it.

The "concern" of Obama for women is superficial and quietly covered up. If I had not gone to Wihipedia I would have never discovered it.

Your responses to hispanic leaders in the republican party clearly indicate that each of you is a racist. Get familiar with being called racist. It's been happening to the other side for years......now, it's your turn.

Dear president Obama, if the secret service reads this stuff i hope they forward this to you.

I am proud to have you as my president. I hope and pray you stay for another four years. with all the the pressure and resistance the republican party, at the behest of the hidden rich, have thrust upon you, you still fight for me and our fellow Americans. God bless you and God protect you and for sure God loves you. Amen

                                            Thank you Mr. President.

georgepauljohn: I'm with you. I'm grateful every day when I wake up and think about our president in the White House! He's the real American Dream come true. We've never had such a decent man there, so smart, so thoroughly likable, graceful, gracious, and loved all over the world.

And all over the world, other peoples cannot understand why he's so vilified, denied, and decried.

But no nation began as ours did, with a hostile invasion seeking wealth above all, slaughtering natives, ruining the land, importing & enslaving millions--bringing calamitous destruction in the name of Manifest Destiny.

Hatred & racism run so deep here, they're like red and white blood cells in the American Body.

If our nation is collapsing now, it must be karma come home.

Line up, girls, and wait for Obama the pander bear. He knows he can take you for granted by throwing you a few bones. Thought there might be some possibility that you would see through his mirage, but the intelligence you so soundly proclaim doesn't seem to be present. "Please, Mr. Hussein, pay for my pills and I'll vote for you. Please pay for my pills.

Your votes are bought and paid for and you don't have enought sense to understand that. You absolutely must know the Dems are laughing their butts off at women, knowing that for a pitiful few bucks you can be bought. Seems like there is a word for that.

Line up and wait for Romney the ape. He knows he can buy your company (he already stole your 401k), fire every employee you've worked hard to keep employed and then throw your dream into the trash. Thought there might be some possibility his fake smile and pathetic attempts at connecting with the middle class would clue you in. "Please, Mr. Richy Rich, send me back to the kitchen so I can start having all those babies! Throw your religion down my throat and let my man get meat for my stew pot."

Intelligence laces throughout the supporters of both parties. The ability to disagree doesn't equate to stupidity. Your support will go to the party that better seems to look out for your interests. Hjack, let's not take this to low levels by implying women supporters of Obama are sluts. You seem to believe you are possession of great intelligence. Insults such as those are beneath those with real acuity.

Oh, what a cute new phrase for GOP. Think it will stick?

It was safe to assume that Obama was going to have very few good ideas given his lack of experience running anything, so even if they did chant the secret satanic oath known only by republicans on that magical date, they were pretty confident they would not be saying no to anything useful.

Anyway, you people think Obama is so great. If so, he should have found a way. Clinton did, and he was a good president. Obama just whined like a spoiled brat. Dems should have nominated Hillary 4 years ago. We would all be a lot better off with her or McCain.

Clinton being a good president is a myth. Although he is likeable he did help lay the ground work for our unconstitutional wars.

But hey 90% of the population doesn't even know what a delegate is so why do I even bother.

Did they actually show Ann Romney in a "kitchen" somewhere at the Republican Convention pretending like she was baking something?

I'd bet you $10,000 that Ann Romney hasn't "baked" in 40 years.

But, you are aware that most abortions are not due to rape, but rather irresponsible people having unprotected sex, right? It was in your health ed book, chapter 2, page 69, and even has some pics for you.

Guess what, stupid @!$%#s? But they also recognize that racism in the US is not not good for them at all. Unfortunately for the GOP it is thinly veiled and rampant in their midst. Hell, even Germany denounces Nazism and has laws against it...the new TeaGOP Congress now "legally" embraces the American Nazi Party as registered lobbyists...the Tea Party, early on, was backing David Duke (ex-Grand Wizard of the KKK) for a run on POTUS...look at how our first black President is epitomized by the "new" right wing and the (sometimes not so) cloaked hate and racism in their rhetoric. Look at our past history with regards to racism and our treatment of minorities. Don't forget many Texas women rely on Planned Parenthood for decent medical care, pap tests, cancer screening etc. Romney wants to defund PP.

In the Old Testament, the life of the unborn was subject to the will of the father.

At the founding of this nation, you were passed over for the right to vote. Only white male property owners were given the right to vote.

Apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians 8:13-15 writes that the goal for Christians is equality (not equal opportunity):

"Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, as it is written: 'The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little'."

And the Gospel of Luke 16:13 warns against serving two masters:

"No one can server two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot server both God and money."

The social conservative Christian endorsement of Ayn Rand's gospel of selfish capitalist individualism and entitlement of the conservative wealthy to be given preferential tax treatment conflicts with the social Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In the New Testament, you were set free from the Old Testament law.

Under the Constitution, you were set free from having men make your decisions for you.

Consider voting for compassion and community in this election of 2012. Christianity doesn't promote competitive religious individualism.

Jesus, the liberal Jewish alternative to the Tea Party Christian Conservatives who believe selfish capitalist individualism is based on the Bible.

If a religious woman, or any religious person of either gender, believes that all life is so sacrosanct that it must be preserved even in the case of conception caused by rape, I think that's a perfectly reasonable position to hold. The untenable part is forcing that belief on someone else.

Pro-choice is not pro-abortion. Pro-choice is simply giving a woman and her family the ability to choose what is best for her.

Women remember that a "personhood" amendment means NO abortions for any reason including rape, incest, and mother's health, with which you may be okay. But are you okay with NO birth control. If you don't believe this would happen, read the product label on birth control pills, IUD's, or spermicidal jelly. They all say a version "should an egg become fertilized, an additional effect of this product is to make the uterus inhospitable to implantation." This would become illegal since any fertilized egg (eggs generally are fertilized in the fallopian tube and then travel to the uterus) would then have all rights of a live birth child and a product wouldn't be allowed to prevent implantation.

Who knows because he sure hasn't told anyone. He has said you have to wait til January. We are in a too fragile condition to put our country in the hands of someone who continually lies. For instance when asked he says his money is in a blind trust which he has no say over. Before he said when you set up a blind trust you give them instructions and they do what you tell them to. He gives answers of convenience. And he put his money in the Caymons, Switzerland etc. to invest and pay the exact taxes he would here? Is that why we tried to get Swiss bank acct info for at least 1300 people which I am sure he is one and they refused to give it to us. Because they paid all the taxes. Wake up. We don't need that. He can go get on the elevator in his garage and go up and down all day. I don't care as long as he stays far away from the White House. How many people does he have to insult before you guys say enough! He insults practically everyone he has any interaction with. No No NO

When I saw her sit and lie about going to Costco and Mitt buying a 3 pack of shirts and washing them and ironing themselves and then wearing them, it proves she will lie to get any thing. Who would go to Costco and buy a 3 pack if they had money to go to an expensive store. Another pile of bull pucky they stepped in. Have these two no shame? That is an insult to anyone who has to buy at Costcos. I hope the election hurries up so they can become just another bad memory of a bad campaign. Obama is a bald faced liar when he ran for office in 2008. He has failed misearably and is destroying our country unemployment, food stamps and vast expansion of regulation. As a socialist with marxist tendancies, he seeks to resdistribute wealth to certain segments of society and friends. He was only elected because of his skin color and most realize they were duped by this completely incompetent pretender. Thank goodness 2016 is showing to illustrate just who we elected as our president.

"Socialist with marxist tendencies"? Rather than spouting stupid GOP talking points, name ONE socialist thing he has done. JUST ONE.

                                                                                                  • 1 vote

Luke I get so tired of that damned argument. Oh he brought traffic to a standstill, while he took his wife to dinner. Tell me Luke, when is the last time you and your wife/partner went out to dinner. Did you have to make security arrangements for your safety? It's called living in a bubble and to some extent giving up your personal freedoms for a while.

And if mittens gets in, how much money is it going to cost us for protecting all of his homes? How many secret service agents will have to be on that detail? I can't believe the number of people who think that the Obama's went out to dinner and we footed the bill. Guess what, it ain't so. We pay for the secret service, the same way we do for Nancy Reagan who still gets secret service protection.

As for the abortion issue, all of you pro-lifers out there can have an opinion when there is no more need for orphanages or foster care. Other than that, keep your business out of my "choices".

                                                                                                  • 2 votes

Thank you Luke for speaking the truth.

M Brown, who do you think paid for Obama's dinner....the Easter Bunny. The tax payer paid for it. Just like the tax payers paid for Michelle to vaction in India with her 75 person staff, (they declared their 2 kds as "senior" staff), 70 secret service agents, on Air Force Two (according to the GAO, it costs $11,351.00 per hour to operate the plane), it used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel.

Her vacation to India cost the tax payers 2 billion dollars. Plus the ski trip to Vale last winter, the Hawaian Christmas Vacation, the trip to Martha's Vineyard, and who knows how many golf outings. All of these things require special security costing the tax payer billions.

                                                                                                  • 2 votes

He quit playing because he found no enjoyment playing while troops were giving their lives. Obama has no problem playing 120 rounds. I have a problem with that, so should anyone in the military.

Others who truly understand the American Dream means you have to work for it are voting for Romney.

Simple difference in logic. Obama is the Food Stamp President and proud of it!

Willing to bet Nik Nik your are in a Union no?

Brent, it would be real nice for you to wake up poor one day and see exactly how they have to live through no fault of their own. I bet youwould sing an entirely different tune at that point.

And this union bashing which seems to be in vogue by your party is complete foolishness...when the unions are gone and you have absolutley no bargaining rights with your employer for a safe work enviornment and an 8 hour work day and a living minimun wage, i bet you again will be singing a different tune, as you will be needing one of those so called handouts you seem to hate.

It's people, and I do use the word people loosely in your case, like you that make the word conservative bad.
