With the retired battleship USS Wisconsin as the backdrop, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney introduced Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
Updated at 10:45 am ET Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney introduced his choice as running mate, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, 42, Saturday morning at a campaign event in Norfolk, Va.
Romney portrayed the Wisconsin congressman as “an intellectual leader of the Republican Party” and a man who “understands the fiscal catastrophe that awaits us if we don’t change course.”
He called him a legislator who had shown the ability to work with members of both parties, saying, “In a city that’s far too often characterized by pettiness and personal attacks, Paul Ryan is a shining exception. He doesn't demonize his opponents.”
He added that “a lot of people in the other party ... might disagree with Paul Ryan; I don't know anyone that doesn't respect his character and judgment.”
NBC's Andrea Mitchell has the story of Rep. Paul Ryan's ascent to America's biggest political stage.
Romney told the crowd, “At a time when the president’s campaign is taking American politics to new lows, we're going to do something differently. We’re going to talk about aspirations and American ideals and about bringing people together to solve the urgent problems facing our nation.”
Ryan then dashed onto the platform from the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin docked at Norfolk.
Ryan referred to Romney, the former head of Bain Capital, as “someone who knows from experience that if you have a small business you did build that” – a reference to President Obama’s recent statement on the campaign trail that “if you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.” Obama argued that businesses benefit from government infrastructure and public sector investments.
Alluding to the entitlements and debt problems that loom over the next few decades, Ryan said Obama and Democrats in Washington “have refused to make difficult decisions because they are more worried about their next election than they are about the next generation.”
Referring to the nation’s sluggish economy and its growing burden of debt, Ryan said, “We can turn this thing around, … but it will take leadership and the courage to tell you the truth.”

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan appear at a campaign event in Norfolk, Va., on Saturday.
Ryan also trumpeted Republicans’ faith in private sector entrepreneurs, saying, “We look at one another's success with pride, not resentment, because we know, as more Americans work hard, take risks, succeed, more people will prosper, our communities will benefit, and individual lives will be uplifted and improved.”
That theme is similar to ones Ryan has sounded in the past. He has been outspoken in saying that America must be “an upward mobility society.”
He told CNBC’s Larry Kudlow last February, “We don't want a safety net that turns into a hammock that lulls people into dependency in this country. We want people to get up on their feet and grab that higher rung of the economic ladder.”
He said, “We don't believe in class division. We believe in growth and prosperity, helping people when they are down on their luck get back on their feet, and pro-growth economic policies that put America in the lead, that make us competitive, that stop tearing people down in this zero-sum thinking.”
A senior adviser told NBC News that Romney informed Beth Myers, who headed his search for a running mate, of his decision to select Ryan on Aug. 1.
Live vote: Is Ryan a good choice?
As the author of an ambitious plan to redesign the Medicare program for older and disabled Americans, Ryan has long been the target of Democratic attacks.
NBC's Brian Williams takes a look at how the 2012 presidential election suddenly changed on Saturday.
Obama campaign manager Jim Messina issued a statement Saturday saying Ryan's Medicare proposal "would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors."
If enacted, Ryan’s proposal would be the most far-reaching change in Medicare since the program was created in 1965.
In 2011, one Democratic group ran an ad showing a man – presumably Ryan – pushing a terrified elderly woman in a wheelchair off a cliff.
Ryan’s plan would gradually increase the Medicare eligibility age to 67. This phased-in increase in the eligibility age would start in 2023.
Ryan’s proposal would do away with Medicare’s open-ended payments for those born in 1958 and later, (that is, people who turn 65 in 2023 or later).
Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney introduced his choice as running mate, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, 42, Saturday morning at a campaign event in Norfolk, Va.
Instead, beginning in 2023, people in Medicare would be given a choice of private plans competing alongside the traditional fee-for-service option.
Medicare would provide a payment to pay for or offset the premium of the plan chosen by the senior. The payments would be higher for low-income people and lower for high-income people. The payments would grow over time but would not necessarily keep pace with the increase in the cost of medical care.
The Congressional Budget Office, in an assessment last year, said Ryan’s plan would result in “much lower deficits and debt in the long run.” But the CBO also found that under Ryan’s redesigned Medicare, “most elderly people would pay more for their health care than they would pay under the current Medicare system.”
One prominent Democrat, Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon joined with Ryan last year on a proposal to redesign Medicare.
Wyden said in an opinion piece in the Huffington Post that the Wyden-Ryan proposal was not a finished piece of legislation but “simply a policy paper intended to start a conversation about how Democrats and Republicans might work together to uphold the Medicare Guarantee.”
Live vote: Is Ryan a good choice?
The Oregon Democrat also added, “Wyden-Ryan doesn't eliminate the traditional Medicare plan, instead it guarantees that seniors who want to enroll in Medicare's traditional fee for service plan will always have that option.”
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan enters the presidential campaign as presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney's choice for Vice President.
He added that, “Wyden-Ryan doesn't privatize Medicare because Medicare beneficiaries already have the option of enrolling in private health insurance plans. Wyden-Ryan makes those private plans more robust and accountable by forcing them to -- for the first time -- compete directly with traditional Medicare.”
But Wyden also said, “Some Republicans will undoubtedly declare their support for Wyden-Ryan without knowing what that means or believing in its principles. Mitt Romney, for example, claims to have helped write Wyden-Ryan even though I have never spoken to him about Medicare reform.”
As part of its fiscal year 2013 budget resolution, which it approved in March, the House supported Ryan’s Medicare reform plan. The vote was 228 to 191, with no Democrats voting for the proposal and 10 Republicans voting against it.
Ryan has offered some of his ideas on tax reform in interviews with David Gregory on NBC's Meet the Press. Last May, Ryan said, "What we're saying about taxes is take the tax shelters and the loopholes away from the well-connected and the well-off so we can lower tax rates for everybody so we can allow small businesses to grow and compete."
Americans learned Saturday who Mitt Romney will have as his running mate, but what do we know about his choice? NBC's David Gregory and Chuck Todd reports.
He also said on Meet the Press in 2011: "Instead of job-killing tax increases, why don't we just stop subsidizing wealthy people? I mean, let's go after the crony capitalism, the corporate welfare in the tax code, in spending. And why don't we income-adjust our spending programs so that we don't subsidize wealthy people as much? I think that's a better idea to get more savings in the budget, get our debt down without doing economic damage."
Ryan, first elected to the House in 1998, worked in college as a staffer for Sen. Bob Kasten of Wisconsin, and later as a speechwriter for Jack Kemp and William Bennett and as an aide to Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas.
Ryan voted for the bailout of the financial sector in 2008, as well as the auto industry bailout. He also voted for the 2003 bill to add a prescription drug benefit to Medicare and has voted this year to repeal President Obama’s health care overhaul.
NBC's Garrett Haake contributed to this report.
He can't be any worse than Biden !!!! The End of an Error...1-20-2013
Thanks Mitt,
Just guarenteed another 4 years of Obama/Biden...and yes electing Ryan, the guy who voted FOR all the crap that screwed our budgets and economy could be way worse than Biden.
Ryan voted for Tax cuts for the rich TWICE, For invading another country, for medicare part D, for TARP...he voted for about $5 trillion of the debt...nice.
And in order to fix his own debt he want to cut food stamps, and turn medicare into a coupon...?
The only way Rmoney had to win was nominating a moderate and he did just the opposite, he nominated THE teabagger....thanks.
Oh. There's a qualification -- not "worse" than Biden.
Ryan represents the top 1% that is focused on capital migration away from the middle class to the rich. Just look at his proposed budget from a few years back. The poor and middle class received the burden and the rich received the tax incentives.
As a small business owner looking for leadership, I am not impressed this this pick.
Ryan Paul is the worst of the presidential candidates. If Romney/Ryan is elected the medicare, medicaid and social security will disappear all of a sudden without people realizing what happened. Nobody understands what Ryan is talking about in his budget. Balancing the budget nice talk suddenly becomes no Medicare in the end. We are balancing the budget becomes medicare becoming a 100$ voucher for wall mart basically.
Retarded Mitt just announced that Ryan will be "The Next President"of the US.
He is right. Paul Ryan is the most venomous person after Dick Cheney.
The GOP knows how to pick them. A clown in front, and the master in the back, pulling the strings.
Romney has just doubled down on austerity for the middle class and a windfall for the rich in picking Ryan.
That said, Obama must now come up with a plan for Medicare and Medicaid to draw a contrast. The only thing worse than having a bad plan is having no plan.
yuck
just yuck.
Romney-Ryan...Uniting America!
Pride is a much better emotion than resentment!
Re-appy the Principles, some courage and TRUTH...We can turn this country around!
Good Job Mitt, it seems we will hear from the left how bad his choice was now. Perhaps even suggesting by simply picking Ryan that Obama would win the election or something. DOH, leftovers already posted those comments. That was sooooo predictable. Funny stuff!
Ryan politely stood up to Obama and Obama caved during prior discussions from health care costs to cutting automatic spending. Ryan took positions helping Americans while his own party was taking political positions which offered nothing to America. My hat is off to Ryan for trying to make a REAL difference unlike Obama who claimed he would change DC and failed miserably due to lack of effort and leadership.
It's great to see that Romney is serious about winning.
Of all of his choices Paul Ryan was one of the best possible picks.
We need a serious return to individual liberty, to economic freedom, market oriented private sector growth and true competition, a serious effort to not just curtail the metastasizing growth of government but to reduce the size of it, and a reasonable reform of our runaway entitlement costs so that the system does not collapse on the unfunded liabilities we are incurring so that those programs remain viable for our most vulnerable citizens. Romney choosing Paul Ryan signals this is exactly what he is intending to do.
I couldn't be more pleased with the choice.
-- An ex-Democrat that voted for Obama in 2008, Kerry in 2004, Gore in 2000, and Clinton in 1996.
Ryan will be the death of those over 55. His Medicare reforms are a nightmare and he beats the same high tax drum as Romney. Taxes are not the answer just better budget managements. Running the country on higher taxes that is what Romney/Ryan bring.
Mitt's only making that choice now to try to make the tax return/Bain issue go away - he's definitely taking a beating in the polls from it. I really don't think this is gonna help all that much - acting like you care about the debt when you start wars and cut taxes for rich people is still lousy policy even if it does fool the uneducated and uneducatable.
Loser of a ticket.
He is a teabagger who turns off independent,s minorities and old people with his slash the poor and medicare budget...how does that help Willard in the general? Oh yeah, it doesn't, thanks Willard

Gotta love that.
The GOP is re-introducing the Three R's. Romney, Ryan and Regression.
America now has its choice.
Republicans = anti middle class/poor and pro 2%
Obama = pro middle class and anti 2%
Which way will you vote?
An ex-Democrat that voted for Obama in 2008, Kerry in 2004, Gore in 2000, and Clinton in 1996.
Were you in a coma during 8 YEARS OF BUSH?
No problem, just remember I have paid (together sometimes with an employer--usually also me), 1,260,000 in SS and Medicare, (adjusted for inflation, and Fed interest rate charged to banks), So just send me one check for the entire amount, then you can do whatever--no problem, but if I do not get the money I paid over 45 years, I will start selling any government property, like everyone else, and you will see Greece here like you have never seen before, they have forced by harass and collect withholding SS and by jail all of us to pay that money, so now it is time to pay up or else--politics will have no effect---Instead of going to the moon and 40 % going to pay college for dependants scam----come to think, I wonder if that is why we have 3-10 times more police per million here than western countries--here it is like Iraq and Afghanistan with control and police all over!--I wonder what they are so scared of---!---They have know this come due for years, they just con the public every day---
Ryan isn't as qualified as Biden. First, he has never plagiarized the life of a British politician. Second, he actually knows the names of the Supreme Court justices and he most certainly has never asked a wheel chair-bound person to :stand up and be recognized!"
Were YOU in a coma during 4 years of OBAMA???
This is no surprise. Picked the younger better looking one to attract the young and female vote. - fortunately, in the process alienating the black, hispanic and probably elderly vote.
Isn't it remarkable how no Republicans ever admit to voting for Bush, yet he still managed to get elected...twice?
Yhis choice is a huge mistake for Romney. It'll get him a few more votes in Wisconsin. But all Obama needs is Florida to win, and this will hurt him in Florida.
Mitt's candidacy is looking as flawed as his father's.
Well, four more years of change we can expect is coming!
Good choice. Ryan or Rubio was the best choices he could have made.
JPM77: Ryan has no experience outside of government and proposed two of the most anti-middle class budgets in decades.
From the Catholic church: the Ryan budget as trying to "to dismantle government programs and abandon the poor to their own devices."
From Paul Krugman: Ryan's plan "would raise taxes for 95 percent of the population"
From American Enterprise Institute scholar Ted Gayer: "Ryan’s vision of broad-based tax reform, which essentially would shift us toward a consumption tax...", which is mostly a tax on the poor.
There is no alternative here to make moderates like myself gravitate towards Romney.
I voted for Bush both times. I am still proud of my vote.
Can you say that about voting for Obama?
Looking forward the the VP debate, that's for sure. Biden could put Palin away can't imagine what will happen against Ryan.
Statement of a good friend summed up well:
Ryan is the budget chief in the House. He wrote a plan that would give more tax breaks to the rich and would cut Medicare benefits by giving seniors vouchers to buy healthcare. He would be David Cameron on steroids when it comes to austerity for the middle and working classes. He was chosen to shore up the conservative base because they don't trust Romney.
GOD HELP US IF THE RIGHT WING VOTERS DO NOT SEE THAT THEY ARE GLUTTONS FOR PUNISHMENT!
I like Ryan and Romney alot better than smoke and mirrors obummer and dumber
The best possible outcome of choosing Ryan would be to get this schmuck out of the House, out of government, out of sight, out of mind forever.
Can't wait for the debates between Ryan and "Bite Me" Biden. I can only imagine Bite Me trying to explain Obamas "plan" for reducing our debt, saving medicaire and social security. It will be priceless to contrast his typical babbling rants and while Ryan explains in precise detail what our future holds if Obama is re-elected. Isuspect that when Ryan is through with him, bite me will have pulled out most of his hair plugs.
Shout it from the Rooftops! Haleluliah! Praise the Lord!
Looks like Mr. Obama will be our President, and of course the Ruler, Master, and Overlord of all you pathetic Republicans and crazy Right-wing Wacko Teabaggers, for the next Four (yes! 4) very long years!
That's what happens when us Freedom Loving American people put an intelligent, good looking Chicago street-style Politician up against your Liar and Tax-Cheat and Pension-fund Thief.
It's Not even a Contest.
Don't you Republicans and Teabaggers get it?
You're NOT just LOSING.
You've ALREADY LOST.
You might as well stay Home on Election Day.
so my fellow Americans, "Remember Pearl Harbor". "Remember the Main". Remember George Bush and the Republicans, and Dick (Darth Vader) Cheney, and Karl Rove, and Haliburton Oil, and Black Hawk Mercenaries. Did I mention Karl Rove?
Let's send Mitt Romney and the Republicans back to the "Dung Heap of History", where they all belong!
Unfortunately Nein3x's, Ryan will probably run for House and VP concurrently.
RUKIDDING???? U R proud of voting for DUH-bya and DARTH Cheney twice?
Heck yeah, I will be voting for Obama again! RMoneyandVoucher Ryan would be DUH-bya's a 3rd term.
saving medicaire and social security. It will be priceless to hear his babbling rants and watching him pull out those hair plugs.
Right, as opposed to just annihilate the programs. Only garbage until YOU NEED THEM.
If you think that Paul Ryan is on your side, think again. he is transforming the Medicaid/Medicare into a gigantic business for him and Mitt Romney.
"Let me introduce the next president of the United States, now I'm off to tie my wifes horsey to the roof of the car!"
No!
...the numbers for Bush's last three months. Between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.
April 2012 marks the 26th straight month of gains in private-sector employment, for a total of 4.2 million private-sector jobs.
DJIA Dec 1, 2008 = 8149
DJIA Aug 10, 2012 = 13207
Dec 29, 2008 U.S. corporate earnings probably fell for a sixth-straight quarter, the longest streak in at least 20 years, as consumer spending on automobiles, homes and retailers collapsed.
May 11, 2012 Fortune magazine released its ranking of the 500 biggest US corporations Monday, which showed that they received a record-breaking $824 billion in combined profits in 2011, up 16 percent from 2010.
Regardless of how Republicans want to ignore it, things are getting better! Now, Romney and Ryan want to turn all that back and return to Bush's ways. I think not!
I voted for McCain. I will be voting for Obama. The GOP has lost it's collective minds as it's pursued this Tea Party nonsense. In fact, the radicals in the GOP are looking too uncomfortably like the radicals in a certain country of the Middle East. Fundamentalist religion mixed with the wealthiest elite makes for the deadliest combination. No thanks.
Signed, Former Republican voting straight Dem for the first time in my life.
P.S. I am in Wisconsin. Ryan is a radical fool. He can't answer the simpliest criticisms of his pie in the sky ideas.
I'm Happy he picked RYAN, he just added a substantial amount of votes to OBAMA I bet the Republicans are just floored by Romney, and this guy wants to be the President "You have got too be kidding" he just went from bad to worst. LOL
The Ryan plan ONLY raises taxes on the middle class if you follow a scenerio painted by Democratic operatives. They predict that the economy will get worse under Romney. But could it get worse than under Obama? Will business not expand as it hasn't under Obama. Will taking the chains off business expansion make thing worse under Romney and Ryan? Will over regulating and increasing tax under Obama bring economic expansion as the Democrats claim? If you know nothing about economics and think the Obama course is the way to go. Then you will believe that this plan will cause taxes to go up. As you were told 3-1/2 years ago, stimulating government spending has never and will not stimulate our economy out of a recession. As it didn't work for Roosevelt and hasn't for Obama, we are left with two different courses. Do the same thing as was done in the first 4 years of Obama or take the shackles off of business and let them lead the recovery.
No, more like 1-20........2008. I'm pretty sure the rest of the world that have functioning brains backs me up on this.
If there was any chance Romney was to possibly get this independent's vote, he just lost it picking this clown as his running mate. I remember and will NOT FORGET his smirky, cocky and flat out RUDE attitude towards Obama at the healthcare summit. Him and "Marsha Marsha Marsha, where's a football when you need one" Blackburn.
I wouldn't vote for these clowns MOST ESPECIALLY Ryan if my life was at stake.
Hiding ones head in the sand, doesn't change the fact that America is standing on the edge of an economic abyss, people... President Obama has added more to the national debt in one term than any former President (Democrat or Republican). Our nation has the longest running unemployment rate above 8% in the history of this nation. (actually the true unemployment rate is closer to 15% nationwide, Obama ignores those who have given up looking for a job or are living in poverty on part-time work). Is the minorities, such as Hispanic population or Jewish population any better off during the first term of this administration? No.. Obama recently signed an ally agreement with Israel to undermine Governor Romney's visit to Israel. How many times has President Obama been to Israel in the last 3 3/4 years? ZERO! That signed agreement isn't worth the paper its written on to Obama. Primarily, due to Obama's allegiance to Anti Israel Nations, such as Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc.
I don't want a President who is ashamed of America and tells the world so.. Barack Obama has done that repeatedly overseas since 2008. I don't want a President who takes 500 Billion from Medicare to fund his ObamaCare. I don't want a President who tells companies not to take their conventions to Nevada when the state has one of the highest unemployment percentages in the country. I don't want a President who refuses to honor constitutional law and sues states over immigration issues, rather than adhering to constitutional requirements. I don't want a President who has no respect for faith. I don't want a President who time and time again has shown little respect for the military.. This is not the legacy, I want my President to pass to my children and grandchildren.....
However, what frightens me most about President Obama...He is actively agreeing with UN control over military and working toward a one world currency.. It's time for people to stop listening to President Obama's pretty speeches and start looking at President Obama's agenda's.. They are real eye-openers....
So, folks... You have a choice... America has a choice in November.... Do we stay on the current downhill path or do we step out in courage with new leadership, pull in our belt, hitch up our bootstraps and pull America back from the edge of the economic abyss.. This is the most important choice of your life.. One you will have to answer for with your children, grandchildren and future generations to come.....Choose wisely.....
Eric, the real choice here is the ignorance by which sheep like yourself continue to live in. Obama is not the "average guy" of the disaffected as he would have you believe. While fools like you rail against the 1% or 2% as you call it, Obama is laughing behind your back at his $40,000 a plate fundraising dinners. While fools like you rail against big business Obama gives his friends at Solyndra taxpayer funded $$. Rep Ryan and Romney choose to be fiscally responsible and all sheep like you can do is trash them. You don't even know what you are talking about. Make a sweater for me you sheep!!
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
Romney's pick is a guy who wants to gut Medicare, who's biggest selling point is THAT IT WON'T TAKE EFFECT FOR 10 YEARS! What does that say?
Romney doubles-down on a Medicare voucher program that was SLAMED just 6 months ago.
This was the worst pick in the history of the USA.
Romney- the scary one.
And what outside experience does Obama/Biden bring?
I think the Catholic Church is a bit more upset at the Obama Administration at this point. Ryan hasn't advocated the Church must abandon their articles of faith.
Krugman....LoL :)
Since Obama's policies have created more poor I guess you pick your poison. One vision might put a slight burden on the poor but would result in a smaller number of them, the other does not burden the poor - just swelled their ranks.
To quote the early Obama supporter and lifelong Democrat Mort Zuckerman:
There is no doubt that the next presidential term will start with a rate of unemployment that is far higher than what President Obama inherited when he took office. The programs that he has put in place have failed.
How unbelieveably funny. Since its saturday, theres not a peep from Feisty, Backhouse, or Beverly from Chicago. My theory that they are paid MSNBC Employees with a Monday-Friday Job of spewing hate and the highest levels of ignorance on Newsvine is only more concrete now.
Jason, it could also be that they have a life (unlike you and me).
Q22, if Ryan's Medicare plan is so good, why does he wait 10 years to implement it? It insults our intelligence.
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
You betcha, fer sure. Funny thing is, Obama did exactly the same thing when introducing Biden 4 years ago.
And the seniors are very aware that Obama and his merry band of thieves stole $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
WOW! - If you didn't "feel a tingle run up your leg" (LOL) after Ryan's speech your either a socialist or an American Apologist or BOTH! (think Obama).
America bashing is almost over!
Either way, poor Obama is now going to be forced to have adult discussions regarding his failed policies - no more bumper sticker quotes from the Chicago thugster-in-chief!
"We get our rights from Nature & God, NOT government!" - Way to go Ryan!
Romney/Ryan 2012!
Absolutely love seeing the anti-Catholic liberals suddenly quoting the Catholic Bishops to critique Ryan!
Face it - Whatever reservations the Catholic Bishops might have on the Ryan Plan pales in comparison to the kick in the teeth the Obama Administration gave them by forcing them to pay for birth control and abortifacients and spitting at their objections.
There are 2 main problems with Mitt's VP pick. First, it does nothing to attract Independents. Second, it ticks off many GOP elderly voters. In popular retirement states like Florida and North Carolina, Ryan may very well turn both of those purple states blue.
I see no upside with this pick.
Moving my comment to a free speech zone. FYI it is a waste of time to comment on an anti President Obama comment because the hatemonger far left will suppress it. They hate everything that does conform to their thoughts and call people bigots if they don't agree with their asinine emotional dribble.
If you take a good look at the issues, Ryan looks like Obama on steriods - yes, he has supported many things the current president does. Ryan just has the bonus of being more militant in civil rights issues and budget issues. No one ever learns. We are more divided as a country than ever (with the possible exception of the Civil War, though lately I'm not so sure) and the GOP has just recruited one of the most controversial people possible for the VP position. Way to go. Forget party lines and look at both sides - Obama has been an ineffective nightmare doing all the wrong things, and Romney/Ryan are determined to spiral us further into a depression. It's like some kind of bad joke with the American people the punch line.
I didn't vote in 2008 because when I went down the issues I was evenly split and frankly couldn't support either candidate. This year is far worse. The choice of Ryan as VP actually made me consider voting Obama for a moment - something I never thought possible. We are screwed.
If Obamacare is so great why isn't it fully implemented until 2015?
Ronzwyf, very well put. I agree 99%. However, many of our citizens don't think we are on a downhill path. Rather, they feel it is a wonderful thing to gets things for free through re-distribution of wealth. What they fail to understand is that when the wealth is re-distributed and gone, where does the future money come from. China? Obama gets re-elected, China will see our future clearly and will cut us off from future loans. Then these libs will see what socialism is all about.
I definitely think there's a great deal of expectation with this ticket. And it's not a bad ticket.
Paul Ryan demands results. And Wisconsin residents must be thrilled with his selection, no doubt.
Jason, it could also be that they have a life (unlike you and me).
Q22, if Ryan's Medicare plan is so good, why does he wait 10 years to implement it? It insults our intelligence.
Fiesty, Bev, and Backhouse ALWAYS have first post in every Anti Republican Article posted to Newsvine. That does not equal a life in my opinion.
10 Years....Just like Obamacare?
They also haven't seen one change in their benefits, Einstein, since it only afftect Medicare Advantage reimbursements to providers. It hasn't changed a thing for beneficiaries.
Ryan could have proposed raising the eligibility age for Medicare, or raise the payroll tax. Instead he comes up with a voucher program that shifts thousands of dollars of cost to seniors.
This race is over! The Democrats were just handed the election.
Vote Romney if you want a scary President.
Paul Ryan will force us to look at the problems we have as a nation. You may not like him but at least he put forward a plan. It's time to have honest discussion's on this country's economy and our mounting debt.
Unfortunately, everyone (including you) know that a boat load of benefits started in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
This is why you right-wing Republicans are losing, and have the lowest approval ratings of ANYONE (except serial killers). You keep trying to insult the intelligence of the American people. I'm surprised you haven't figured that out yet.
OBama 49% vs Romney 40%
I was drinking my coffee, when I saw it on the news. Needless to say, I had a mess to clean up! I'm still laughing!
Seniors everywhere are jumping up out of their mobility scooters and getting ready to truly mobilize.
And I thought McCain made a bad choice!
lkessler - I am from Wisconsin. I formerly voted for McCain. Knowing who Ryan actually is furthers my resolve to vote for Obama. There are morons everywhere who can't see past state lines (or national ones for theat matter) and will vote based solely on the fact Ryan is from Wisconsin. Overall, though, no.
It does not matter how bad republicans make it for everybody except the rich, it does not matter how bad republicans say what they are going to do to the middle class. It does not matter that republicans will end social security, make medicare a voucher system, end SSI and Disability, tax the middle class to death, stick objects inside women's bodies, none of this or all the other horrible things republicans have said on the record, what they are going to do, none of this matters to the die-hard republican voters
The things die-hard republican voters heard, and the things they believe, live only inside their own heads.
If elected, the Ryan budget will balance the budget, but only after he has ended social security, SSI, Disability, unemployment insurance, veterans benefits, medicare and medicade, the postal service, and all programs that benefits the poor and middle class. Then republicans will have trillions left over to balance the federal budget and give the rich that much needed tax break.
In spite of all the damage Ryan's budget will do to the country, die-hard republican voters only heard, the Ryan budget proposal will balance the budget, they never ever think about what has to be cut off for him to achieve his goal, It also has never crossed their minds that he is not going to make the rich pay for anything.
If there is enough of them to get Romney elected, you can kiss the American way of life goodbye.
Unfortunately liberals don't want an honest discussion. They want to pretend that you can bestow benefits without end and somehow only tax the rich to pay for it. As Ryan said "hiding spending does not reduce spending"
Willard picking Ryan as his mate? A political marriage of convenience
So is there any more doubt now that the GOP supports gay marriages?
Gotta call you out on this one. Obama definitely respects Islam.
Unfortunately liberals don't want an honest discussion.
Yes, that "grand bargain" had nothing to do with THAT discussion.
Let me educate you, Q man. If the right-wing teaparty Republicans had called Obama's bluff and taken the grand bargain (or made Obama resist it), they would be leading the Republican Party right now, and walking away with this election. If Ryan had proposed changes to Medicare and SS by raising the eligibility age and making small changes to the payroll tax (or wage ceiling) the Republicans would be winning. If the Republicans had not held the country hostage and kept us from keeping our AAA debt rating, things would be different.
Instead we get radical, far-right wing, nonsense.
It's as if the Republicans just want to lose. That IS working. Are Republicans THAT clueless?
Romney, he's different and kind of scary.
It's pretty obvious that some people haven't taken the time to read what Ryan has actually said. It's in the article. He wants to get rid of tax loopholes which would actually raise how much the rich is paying in taxes. He doesn't want to get rid of Medicare. He actually seems to be the most moderate candidate running. Quit spewing liberal media talking points and READ.
Yes, and Romney could have been bold and picked the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a running mate too.
That's not the issue. The issue is if the plan is good and if the running mate is good.
Romney fails miserably on both of those issues.
Thank you, Romney, for handing the election to President Obama.
Now, go away.
Striker,
He can't be any worse than Biden???? He already is.....as the king of austerity. I can't recall Biden ever taking anything from the middle class. Can you???? It's the economy stupid....not austerity.
case closed.........
Obama/Biden 2012.
Let me educate you. It was Obama, not the Republicans, who walked out of the Big Deal. Republicans had already agreed on some tax increases but Obama and the administration, represented by Bill Daley, was close to a deal- then Obama - sensing a revolt of the extremist left - through the deal out. It was Obama - not Republicans who put partisanship above country.
Pigotry,
That's funny! Just sayin'..... Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I loathed Bush, still do. It was one of the primary reasons I voted for Obama. I now loathe Obama as much as I do Bush, perhaps more because he is more of a threat to the country presently. I had hoped Obama would govern more like Clinton in his later years. Instead I got a 'progressive' fiscally regressive and oppressive policies claiming to be in favor of the middle class while it was doing the exact opposite and crushing the middle class. We need more economic freedom, not less. We need to get rid of Obama to stop this unemployment catastrophe he and his policies, and those of the Democrats helped create and turn into the worst amount of human misery and suffering in almost a century.
I'm an independent now. I am about as socially liberal as you can be. I support same sex marriage. I am pro-choice (with minor exceptions for late term except in the case of rape/incest/danger to the mother's life). I support marijuana legalization even though I don't care to smoke it myself. I support open legal immigration policies.
But I also support free trade, capitalism, free markets, anti-crony capitalism, deregulation, lower taxes, and overall the policies that have a proven track record of actually reducing poverty and raising standards of living for all. I can't just go by the stated intentions of liberal fiscal policy while watching its failures cause people to suffer in reality.
I like the comment section in realclearpolitics.com... they welcome posters of all political persuasions there, not just the far left progressive propaganda that is typically pushed here while anything else is crushed and collapsed by the sheep too fragile to see alternative viewpoints.
We the corporations? @ 1.1: "...the guy who voted FOR all the crap that screwed our budgets and economy ..."
That's a perfect example of the liberal mindset, a completely false and ignorant statement. His budget, which by the way is one of the best I've seen in years, was passed by the House, but your numb minded Harry Reid hasn't voted on or passed a budget in over 3 and 1/2 years. So, please explain to me how that Ryan budget "screwed our economy?"
Just what we need, another R & R team to run the country while watching their off shore accounts.
Look at all the libbies with their undies in a knot over Mitt's pick for VP. You can tell by the level of their screeeching that they know they are in trouble. Mitt will tear obumbo a new one and we will finally have some sanity and the country will move toward better times.
Hahahaha; if your party doesn't believe in class division and believes on "pro-growth policies," how the hell could you cut taxes on the wealthy, propose RAISING taxes on the poor and middle class, and finance the whole tax thing with cuts to programs that benefit the poor???
Very funny; the Ryan plan makes huge tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and pledges to be "revenue-neutral." In order to do that, Ryan will have to eliminate deductions that will effectively raise taxes for middle class families.
What you fail to understand is that BUSINESSES DO NOT LEAD RECOVERIES. THEY CAN'T. In a recession, businesses don't invest as much as they would during a good economy because demand falls; in order to bridge the gap, the government spends money to create jobs, which will increase demand and increase private investment. In order to fix the economy, you should spend money to create jobs (state aid, build or fix roads, etc), which will increase demand and create jobs. DEMAND creates jobs, not SUPPLY.
Government spending HAS stimulated the economy; the reason why we got out of the Great Depression was because of World War II, where the GOVERNMENT spent billions for war materials and hired millions to either fight in the war or indirectly employed millions more for the war effort. The stimulus DID work; it was just too small, like a one-time blast instead of a whole fireworks display.
First of all, you do not coddle the market with tax breaks and regulatory favors to speed a recovery; you SPEND money. That is how we have gotten out of every recession since the Great Depression. Secondly, Ryan is not FIXING entitlements; he is merely shifting the burden of costs. If he truly wanted to reform and fix entitlements, he would simply raise taxes for Social Security and reform Medicare by ending the fee-for-service mechanism and making deals with Kaiser Permanente and other non-profit organizations. But he simply worked to destroy the safety net. He is not offering a serious plan; it's all red meat.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Romney just did Obama a big favor. I'm not crazy about Obama but he's still better than these Republicans. Yes, I don't think Romney made a wise decision, but then that's no big surprise. How can you trust a man who said he wants to create jobs when all he's done is outsource. Thank you Romney for helping the Obama campaign.
Fresh,
While I don't usually like 2-page replies, yours is stellar.
For additional support, see: www.zfacts.com
Spending is the only thing that restarts an economy, and yes WWII was a (current dollar) $10 Trillion stimulus spent in 3 years. Of course it worked.
Q22 really than why did Bush and the Rebuplicans hide the war spending in Bush's budgets so his deficits looked lower. This man voted for everything that Bush did that destroyed our economy and put at the brink of a depression than we elected a Democrat as president and know his a fiscal Conservative my a$$. If the Republicans are such fiscal conservatives than why do we have the massive debt that was mostly ran up by Republican president's. The Republicans plan the last 3 1/2 years has been to prevent Obama from doing anything that would make the economy better to keep Obama from being re-elected and have failed the American people. They pay for it in November!
LOLZ Kumar-889209! I am saving your post for later so I can laugh at you.......I think you come from another planet...at least another country.......LOLZ
Aside from the army of Koch snorting, Koch drinking Koch heads collapsing all the anti-Ryan posts here from just about everyone to the left of the ultra-right fringe, who besides me thinks this is a Koch inspired Koch funded choice?
Why do the candidates pick the worst running mates ? I consider myself republican only in the sense that i dislike large controlling government. I wasnt for Obama, or McCain, it was hard to figure out the less of two evils. But picking Sarah Palin put a nail in the coffin if you ask me. I have no beef with her, I just think she didnt make McCain shine like a good running mate should.
Same scenario here. Ryan doesnt seem like he can bring anything to the table to enhance the Mitt Team. Surely there could had been better picks out there.
Ryan: "we will turn this country around"
what he means is they will reverse the recovery and drive the country back into the ditch.
I am very shocked that anybody, even staunch Republicans can think this supply side idiot can do anything for this country what so ever. If supply side economics worked we wouldn't have had a recession and we would be drowning in jobs now. They had their turn, maybe they could let Obama have his. Maybe it will take another landslide victory for Obama for these neo-cons to realize what the people really want. They seem to think they know what is best for us when they block or DOA every thing Obama and the democrats come up with.
Ladies and gentlemen, as Paul Ryan said, this election is the defining moment for this generation. And the stakes couldn't be higher. On one side, we have the path of responsible government, of strong social and economic values and a determination to improve our economy. On the other, a path of gloom and doom, of abject poverty, misery, and apathy to society's downtrodden. If we choose the wrong path, the path of the Republicans and their shame of a budget, we will risk condemning America back to the Dark Ages, destroying one hundred years of work that is marked by the blood and sweat of millions. Those damn right-wingers on Romney's campaign are feeding America lies and propaganda; that idiot of a wonk Ryan even had the balls to condemn Obama as a liberal. Obama may have liberal beliefs, but he has not governed as a liberal; to be sure, his first term resembles that of Bill Clinton, who was liberal in the first few years but tacked hard to the center after the GOP won Congress. Obama did even more; for God's sake his healthcare plan is to the RIGHT of Clinton!!! But no matter; citizens of America, I beg you to make the right choice in November. If you make the wrong choice, and give those snotty-ass bastards in the GOP another chance to ruin America, they won't let you down. And America will no longer be the land of the free, but the land of the oppressed, akin to aristocratic Europe.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Do my eyes deceive me?
I believe I just saw several anti-Romney messages that praise destroying the economy (further) and encouraging not only a welfare state, but a very poor welfare state (like Greece).
When you splurge on useless stuff, put it on your credit cards, and not pay your bills, when the time comes for the check, are you going to blame your wallet for not having any money, or are you going to blame the person who spent it all? Lately, liberals have been blaming the wallets of America for their splurges.
No wonder a lot of wealthy American's are holding their money, it is far better to not earn much income and pay as little tax as they can while all of this absolute wasteful spending continues than it would be to invest and get nothing in return (except a hard slap in the face).
When Obama and his cronies get out of power will the economy really recover. Either that or all the wealthy would just move out of the country.
I heard that Australia is nice this time of the year.
RUT ROH!
Looks like the Limp-wristed Libbies panties are all bunched up as now the real campaign will begin.
You know, the one where we will finally discuss Barrack Husseins
successesfailures and expose him for the incompetent idealogue most real Americans knew he was.At last the bobbleheads on the Left will be forced to debate policy rather than propaganda. The deflection, projection and confabulations will end and Barrack Hussein and Joe "Bite Me" Biden will actually have to try and support their dismal record, here and abroad.
I can't wait for Paul Ryan to start taking apart Barrack Husseins budget. Oh wait, he never passed a budget did he? I can't wait for him to start taking apart his economic policies. Just like he did at the 2010 Health Care Summit when he had Barrack Hussein's ears flapping as he explained things that our poor Evolver-in-Chief had no idea about.
Hairy Reed and the real "Party of No", the Democrats, will actually have to discuss issues rather than just decide they are "dead or arrival" or to just "table it". This will be unexplored territory for the Dems as they just demonize everybody elses plans and never debate or compromise.
The Libbies can continue to berate Ryan and Romney over the budget plan, but by doing so, they highlight the fact that they have no plan of their own. This is why the choice of Ryan is important. The fundamentals of the campaign have shifted dramatically in Romney's favor. From a contest where personality and class warfare dominated to one that will feature a genuine debate about two political philosophies, the Obama/Biden campaign must now engage on a whole other level.
Of course the cowards on the Left will still try to attack , but by the time November rolls around the American people are going to have a clear choice.
American exceptionalism with Romney/Ryan or continuing American declinism with Obama/Biden.
Romney/Ryan for real Americans!
Good dude. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.
wow JimSpence,
your entire comment shows an utter lack of knowledge about recent news, the Obama administration and baisic economics. I am sorry I wasted 45 second of my life reading it and another 30 seconds responding.
It's team ready, Romney picks Worm for VP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
freshiee
oh my god thank you god for having someone that knows a little history for once instead of blathering on their stupid ideology or theology all god damned day. Christ all anyone has to do is open up a history book and see that austerity is the single dumbest idea in the world its like preparing for a flood by building your house bellow sea level near the coast just flat out stupid. i mean seriously ever person who supports the republicans can't even understand basic supply and demand economics let alone government economic policy.
name1, it doesn't work that way. The government giving you money from hard workers so you can buy from Walmart does nothing. The hard workers keeping their own money in their business employs people.
Do you know anything about capitalism and free enterprise? Watch the linked Frontline 4 part series if you want to learn how quasi socialism and free markets mix.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/money-power-wall-street/
patrick demarco,
Im about to give you the basics of economics, pay attention and you might learn something.
The economy is based on Supply and Demand. Demand is driven by consumers that have money to spend on products they desire. Supply is the products given by demand to those who want to purchase them.
Let's make a hypothetical situation. I want a tv, others like me want tv's. In order to get these tv's we need money. So we get a job making tv's in order to buy said tv's. If the only people buying tv's made tv's there would be no profit since the tv makers would be paying for tv's to be manufactured, raw materials, distribution and other such costs. So in order for them to prosper they need demand that comes from outside the company. That is where demand comes into play. If demand is high for tv's from people that are paid from outside sources like, road workers, fire dept workers, school teachers, plumbers, electricians and so on, the distribution of money to demand is high. The demand drives the production of tv's in this instance.
As with the entire economy demand for products drives the production of products. In a capitalist society you can produce goods and if people want them you succeed if they don't you fail.
Another hypothetical situation. If i give a company all the tax breaks in the world and they pay nothing, they keep 100% of their income. Let's say this company makes a great tv and people buy it. Now the owners of the company keep 100% of the profit minus the cost to build said product. They then buy some products but not enough to effect the incoming profit they earn. So they accrue capitol. Capitol is work, for every dollar I can get so many minutes of work or material for my products. If I accrue that capitol I take work and production from the economy. Thus lowering the amount of production available and the purchasing power of those with demand. This leads to less demand and slower growth in the economy. So less tv's sold even though demand for this product is high, capitol to purchase this product is low so a limited ammount are sold. Eventualy the Tv buisness will fold running away with huge ammounts of capitol but nothing to spend it on since most producers have failed due to lack of working capitol.
I hope this explanation of economics helps. It is based on very sound and tested evidence supported by over 80% of economists. Some believe in supply side economics but the verdict is that supply side economics is un-sustainable and tierd to the highest rungs of society. If you subscribe to such non-sense your subscribing to the belief that jobs are created by those with no demand but lots of capitol. If that makes sense to you than so be it, but logical minds cannot reason with such lunacy.
Middle Class, get ready for your taxes to go up if these two clowns get into the White House. Might as well start tightening our belts now.
You've got the two political parties confused, Bugfart.
Obamacare is the highest tax on the middle class in history. This is the worst economic recovery in history.
Apparently Bs there hasn't read the Ryan plan... Ignorance is bliss.
How right you are L.I.M.E. The thing people don't realize is that the middle class has already had to shoulder a much larger tax burden since the Bush tax cuts, just in hidden ways. Their taxes increase not in federal income tax. But without federal subsidies, state and local taxes go up. And because the middle and lower class have to pay most or all of their income for housing , food etc. their entire income gets taxed. While the wealthy shelter most of their money, and it makes more money.
With Romney's federal tax plan, stand the F* by. Or just bend over and get ready to take it.
Romney-Ryan = no medicare. Once no medicare, the talk of social security privatizing will become the topic. In the end there won't be any social security net in the US. Gamble the Social Security and Medicare in the stock market. Military will increase 200% but Medicare will be cut 100%.
The balancing of budget will rest on the lower class. Riches get riches, military gets riches, the poorer gets poorer since medicare becomes 100$ voucher every year. This is how the Republicans balance the budget using the middle-lower class people.
bst,
Try again, Mitt's tax plan was independently scored to RAISE middle class taxes by $2000. Why do you support raising taxes?
Only if you're a freeloader with no health insurance. Why do you support freeloaders with no health insurance?
Yes, from the WORST recession in history...funny thing is Paul Ryan is responsible for that recession with his votes
The Middle Class is on the way to evaporation if these two clowns get elected.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are ready to remove everything from the health care of President Obama to the EPA regulations, stomping on Medicare and Social Security They want to turn the US into a gigantic cesspool.
What do they care? They have homes all over the globe. They do not need to live here.
People don't read much. Obamacare saves 200 billion over 10 years.
Ryan's plans for medicare leave seniors with a $6000 bill every year.
There goes Florida Mitt.
Of course, Ryan was not Willard's pick - he's the pick of Romney's billionaire puppetmasters. Agree with tom111 - ultimate goal is privatization of Social Security - multitrillion dollar boon to Wall Street. The Street will have a field day scooping up all of middle class America's retirement funds. Oh, and Sheldon Adelson's upcoming war with Iran should keep all those government-dependent defense contractors happy as well..
The Middle Class will not have a chance to thrive with better wages!...Economy will be roaring back with these two guys...
THEY HAVE A PLAN FOR BETTERMENT of the USA!....
They won't duck they'll lead!
And so was Senator Obama. Lame. Here come the obot lies! Obama has failed. We need a leader that can make this country better- Obama thinks he is Robin Hood, trickle up poverty. Can't wait for the debates.
More like:
Middle Class, get ready for your taxes to to up thanks to Obama. No matter who gets into the White House the stage is already set for much higher taxes. Insurance costs already going up and taxes soon to follow.
Thanks Obomb and his supporters!!
Obama thinks he is Robin Hood, trickle up poverty. Can't wait for the debates.
You are correct! Let's watch the debates. Romney can't even make an announcement of the VP correctly. he said that Ryan will be "The next President"
He has foot-mouth disease.
Cut Medicare and watch a gargantuan mess unfold in health care. Mental health has already been cut to shreds to the tune of $2 billion in the last 4 years- watch that ship sink if these two take office.
Please note that your Dear Leader Obama made the EXACT SAME MISTAKE introducing Joe Biden in 2008! Look it up!
You are correct! Let's watch the debates. Romney can't even make an announcement of the VP correctly. he said that Ryan will be "The next President"
He has foot-mouth disease. Your right ive seen obummer get owned by a 9 year old on youtube lol
@ Jayman:
Making millions, are we?
If not, you are cutting your own legs by voting for these two.
Thank You, Willard. The Clown Car Crew is now complete. Also, the President and the DNC Thanks You
Publius - YOU LIE!!! Either that you are just a brainwash lemming in denial! Taxes have been lower under Obama's watch!
Are they lower than under Reagan and Clinton, though?
The Tax Policy Center last week released an analysis called “Historical Federal Income Tax Rates for a Family of Four.”
It looked at the average income tax rate based on the median income for a family of four from 1955 through 2010.
The average income tax rate under Reagan in 1983 was 11.06 percent. Under Clinton in 1992, it was 9.18 percent. And under Obama in 2010, it was 4.68 percent.
The verdict: For most Americans, taxes were lowered through the stimulus package passed in 2009 and extended to 2010, and they were also lowered in the tax compromise between Obama and Republicans. Current rates are at historic lows compared with ones from 1955 — when the numbers started being tracked — through 2007.

Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
Politifact.com:
Job creation. We compared the number of employed Americans at the start of the recovery to the number employed at the end of the 23-month period. Then we calculated the percentage increase (or decrease) in employment over that time period.
By this measure, there were two recoveries weaker than the one we’re currently experiencing -- the one from November 2001 to October 2003, under President George W. Bush, and the one from July 1980 to June 1982, under presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. The George W. Bush recovery is especially striking, since the economy actually lost more than 700,000 jobs during the first 23 months after the recession ended.
So by this measure, Romney’s claim that "this is the slowest job recovery since Hoover" is incorrect. It’s the third slowest.
Unemployment rate. We compared the unemployment rate at the end of the 23-month period to what it was at the beginning of the period.
By this measure, too, the current recovery is not the weakest. Three recoveries actually saw an increase in the unemployment rate after 23 months (ones under George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush and Carter/Reagan), while another (under President Richard Nixon) produced a smaller decline in the unemployment rate than the current recovery has. (Because a budding recovery can entice discouraged workers back into the labor force, it’s not unusual for the unemployment rate to rise in a recovery.)
So, depending on the measure you use, there are either two or four recoveries since Hoover that were weaker than the current one.
Matthew O'Brien, the Atlantic
"Mitt Romney's Economic Adviser Isn't Giving Very Good Advice"
Romney economic adviser Glenn Hubbard apparently has a very short memory.
"We are currently in the most anemic economic recovery in the memory of most Americans."
Does the memory of most Americans go back a decade? If it does, then they can remember a more anemic recovery -- at least when it comes to jobs. The post-2001 recovery had the slowest job growth of any postwar recovery. It also had the slowest private sector growth of any postwar recovery. It's puzzling that Hubbard doesn't remember this, considering that he was the chair of President George W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisors from 2001 to 2003.
Calm down you old codgers. You completely screwed up medicare and social security but the reforms wont hurt you. They will take affect on the 50 and younger people. It sucks for us because you completely screwed us but we are young enough to prepare for it. We aren't going to do to our children what was done to us. You just can't keep spending because it feels good. There are California cities right now borrowing 1/4 billion to owe 1.2 billion over 40 years just so they can keep their ponzi schemes going. I'm sure their grandchildren will see them as real nice people, stewards to the next generation.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2011-06-06-us-debt-chart-medicare-social-security_n.htm
We had Bush tax cuts. How'd that work for ya? Where are the jobs from those cuts? Most Americans work hard and have to work even harder to make ends meet because under Conservative leadership our standard of living has declined not increased. The American people took plenty of risk investing in private sector for retirement plans, 401k's, and personal investments. How did that work for you? What's your 401k worth now? What is your pension outlook? How are the returns on your investments? What is your home worth? Do you have a job? Are you under-employed? How is the debt burden since Wall Street and the corporate world have had their losses socialized by the American taxpayer. Have you succeeded? "More people will prosper"? Like we prospered in 2008? Have our communities benefited? Look at Detroit and the cities in California that are filing are bankruptcy. What about infrastructure and funding of schools in your area with the decline of local taxes? Since 2000, under conservative leadership have your individual lives improved and been uplifted? How has the Conservative's trickle down economics worked for you lately?
I'm hearing lots of rhetoric but not seeing any substantive results based on past or current actions. Ryan is another Palin. You won't hear any "Mama Grizzly" or "you betcha" talk but you'll get tons of skewed figures on how privatizing the world is going to allow you to reap tons of benefits that haven't materialized in the past and resulted in the American people paying dearly to socialize the 1%er's. Ryan is against "entitlements" yet his record has been to maintain entitlements for Wall Street, Corporations, big oil, and of course Congress!
No worries polling shows just how badly Romney is doing and choosing a tea party is a death sentence to his campaign. Obama will get another 4 years, only the tea party seems to think what they want is what the rest of the nation wants...they are so wrong
My favorite part was not only when Mitty introduced Ryan as the next President, but then put his arm around him and said (Paraphrasing) "I've been known to make mistakes."
God. Not only does Mitty KNOW he will never be President, he KNOWS that Ryan is a HUGE mistake!
Doesn't get much funnier than that
So, besides those on the right, who cares who the veep choice is? Seriously. What power will Romney give him? Why choose Ryan? Maybe they see eye to eye on the economy? Ryan is young and good looking and my stir some young GOP votes? As for me - I am going to watch HGTV and find some projects for hubby to do around the house. Happy Saturday.
Hiya, phine! Hope things are fine!
What is really important is that everyone get out and vote come November... Also if you can pick up and drive someone else to the polls, do so...
The republicans are betting on voter suppression in order to win this election... I think that stinks...
Oh no! Someone who doesn't want to stick the kids of America with a $16,000,000,000,000.00 tab.
US DEBTCLOCK.ORG
Romney's pick is a guy who wants to gut Medicare, who's biggest selling point is THAT IT WON'T TAKE EFFECT FOR 10 YEARS! What does that say?
Romney doubles-down on a Medicare voucher program that was SLAMED just 6 months ago.
This was the worst pick in the history of the USA.
They also haven't seen one change in their benefits, Einstein, since it only affects Medicare Advantage reimbursements to providers.
Vote Romney if you want a scary President.
I'll bet Steven King is kicking himself this morning. He got the setting of The Dead Zone all wrong. It should have been Wisconsin instead of Maine.
brokeincolorado,
"The Middle Class will not have a chance to thrive with better wages!...Economy will be roaring back with these two guys...
THEY HAVE A PLAN FOR BETTERMENT of the USA!....
They won't duck they'll lead!"
That sounds like a very good campaign poster for the Republican Party. There is no truth in a single line of it. There is also no reason why you should be broke in Colorado when you obviously have such talent for writing propaganda posters. You should be able to make a good living working for the Republican Party.
The Romney/Ryan budget continues to add to our debt for another 28 years before the budget is balanced and that can only happen if unemployment decreases to 3% (in his revenue plan) which our country hasn't seen in over 50 years.
The National Debt could reach $30 trillion by 2040 with the Romney/Ryan budget or 150+% of our GDP.
Barring a sudden drop in America's collective IQ, the election was just decided. I have a problem with Ryan wanting to take care of the bloated military-industrial complex by throwing the poor and elderly under the bus. I guess since the young are thrown into the sausage grinder of war, now it's time for the elderly to go to.
Man!!!Talk about death panels for grandma...
Romney and Ryan, Good-bye America's Middleclass and Poor. The Healthcare that benefits million will end, and that's ok by some of us that have good health insurance and can pay for it. Hell, for the one's that can't .WELL!!!! There will be NO JOB creations, Paul Ryan will see to that, and jobs will continue to go overseas at a much more rapid pace, and we can now declare war on Iran, while we still fight in Afghanstan, and Iraq. One thing for sure, Romney will not send one of his FIVE SON to fight, but ours will. HURRAY for America good job and welcome to HELL....For all the people that thinks Romney will help America because he is a multimillionarie, think again, he has his money hid out in Swiss banks, Cayman Island and God only knows where else, but hello that's cause he's such a great American... You beieve that!!! them you need Ocean front property in the desert. I don't blame him for not showing all his returns, he can get away with it anything, but Obama couldn't... There really are double standards for certain people and the very wealthy calls the shots. The Bush policies caused America's downfall and Romney's going back to them, will really sink us into a hole we can never come out of, and that's ok. Americans needs to learn that color is only skin deep, and when your A$$ is really on the line, you'd best chose wisely. Romney has already said he thinks the housing situation should no longer be help but let it go under and work it's way out. Had Obama not propped the Auto, Bank, and helped homeownesr, everything collasing at once would have caused major choas and a depression of the 30's. We who were children then, knows what our parents went thorough, it was not a pretty. Romney/Ryan 2012 will take us back to that ERA and God bless America, TeaParty style...
So it's kick the can (Obama) VS the man with a plan (Romney) pretty simple choice!
really really bad pick......
Ryan wants to make Medicare a voucher system and give them 9500 a year to pay private premiums.... what do you think insurance companies are going to charge a 70 year old for coverage after Obamacare premium protection gets repealed under these guys? Think double that or more... you are going to have seniors spending nearly their ENTIRE SS check on insurance....
Ryan voted repeatedly against education reform / spending, wants to change corporations to a flat 8.5% tax (!), wants to stay in Afghanistan, and he repeatedly lied about job creation and Medicare expenditures... http://www.ontheissues.org/House/Paul_Ryan.htm
the market will sell off some on this pick and Obama will gain a couple of points for a month.... then it's a dogfight....
Hang on to that lie, Gem. Most knowledgeable financial analysts agree that the debt under a Romney administration would grow at a much faster rate than it is currently. You can't cut taxes and expect growth either. That's a big myth that the Conservatives push on uninformed people like you.
The headline is WRONG! Romney announced Ryan as "the next President of the United States". Romney's biggest moment yet and he blew it. Can't wait to see him in a debate.
This is a move born out of desperation. Romney doesn't have the Democrats and the Independents and was losing the Republicans. Bringing in a far-right demagogue shores up his credentials with those who are supposed to be his base.
Well, my comment was finally collapsed. Figured it would happen. I just hope the naysayers will actually do some research at some point to see what Romney/Ryan actually stand for before they vote. I used to be a Republican too...
geo -? WHAT PLAN?! RMOney's etcha a sketch/gaffe guru/pathological liar/out of touch 1% elitist hypocrite?!?! He has no plan. His Bain strategies did NOT work in Massachussetts!
Here's a reminder for the short -term memory right wing lemmings. Mass was 47th out of 50 states in job creation under Mitt's watch. Wicked Willardo gained the MOST profits in Bain, not the companies they buy out. And jobs DID get shipped to China, Mexico, and India. NOW you all want to add another elitist who want to privatized everythinng including your old age healthcare?!
Again:
GOD HELP US ALL IF THE RIGHT WING VOTERS DO NOT SEE THAT THEY ARE GLUTTONS FOR PUNISHMENT!!
.
How much could taxes go up? The cost of nearly every other staple item has almost or more than doubled since obamination. Gas, food, rent, etc.
Geo, I actually like the idea kicking the can down the road. The economy can't help but right itself and we'll slowly grow out of this debt without doing much. That's what I think. Even with current budgeting SS can pay 75% of benefits when it "runs out" of money in 2035. I say we just let the SS trust fund BORROW money instead of just lending to the General Fund. Easy fix. One vote. That will fix things for the subsequent 25 years until all the boomers die off and we can get back to the desinged pay-as-you-go approach.
Coincidentally, 2035 is right about when I turn 67. Forget the pandering to the senior and close to seniors. I'm frankly more worried about ME and MY children. Seniors aren't the only ones who aren't going to like this. I don't want a voucher. I've been paying in to SS/MC for 30 years. I want it in retirement. Putting the pain out 10 years just screws US. The boomers have been screwing us FOREVER. I'm tired of it, and they're planning to do more of it. Rat-bastards.
Thankfully, I think Obama wins this November, but what the other side wants to do is still out there. One thing is for sure, they will keep trying to do it forever. They've been at it since 1981, I don't expect them to change their tune if they lose in November.
No Triple Down on Trickle Down! (1 Reagan-Bush/2 Bush II/ 3 Rom-Ryan)
Romney/Ryan 2012!!!!!!!!! time to shake the dust from our feet and move forward!
How true. This economy will grow no matter what happens in November. That's why the Republicans are so desperate to gain control. They want to take the credit when in fact, it's the way this system has worked since it's inception. I know for a fact that businesses are growing and need to hire people, but are reluctant in an election year. That's a big mistake. 2013 will be banner year for the US economy and the re-elected president will end his second term as one of the best in our history. All of that despite the hateful rhetoric from Fox and pundits.
Once medicare, and social security are privatized, we then become dependant on wall-street, they will own us. There will be no use to even have a government, since it will be controlled by wall-street. Oligarchy will rapidly ensue.
My thoughts exactly Tony.
Everybody knows Obama is going to look like Clinton if he gets another term. If that happens there will be TWO examples of Democratic trickle-up success and two examples of trickle-down Republican failure. The only way the Republican myth survives is if Romney wins and gets to take credit.
Thankfully, the Hail Mary pick of Ryan shows how panicked Romney is, and also much more clearly shows his intentions. It's all obvious now, and I think that's very good for Obama (and the rest of us too).
It's funny, in good years I'm a 1 or 2%-er. But I still support democrats, because I know that for the economy to really grow and make rich people, and make rich people richer, the middle class has to thrive.
I'm fairly well off and I'm all for a higher high end tax rate. What a higher tax rate does is make hiring people a bigger tax deduction. Does it make more sense to hire someone when you get a 40% deductions for it or a 15% deduction for it? I'm also for a net wealth "property" tax of, say 1%. Reasonably low, but it makes people who have billions either pay some tax on the fact that they made it off the good 'ole USA. Us here in the bottom 99.5% pay property tax on our houses which might end up 5 or 10% of our net income. 1% is pretty reasonable, and what's the difference? Somebody is going to call me a commie, just wait. But before income taxes, practically all taxes were property taxes of some sort.
Actually, there was another man whose tax increase beat Obama's. You might consider him to be another left-wing, radical socialist like Obama. His name-Ronald Reagan.
Technically, that came out of fraud and was in expected increases in spending, not current spending. And from some conservative commentators on this vine, cuts to spending increases are not technically cuts.
And if you're 54 and younger, you can go @!$%# yourself.
So do I; unfortunately, the GOP doesn't.
Unfortunately, the Ryan budget doesn't balance the @!$%#ing budget until 2030, and by 2050 it is on track to end most of government besides defense and entitlements. Guess we can all say goodbye to science and education!!!
Unfortunately, I am not quite sure about that. If Obama wins (which he probably will), chances are he is going to have to deal with a Republican House. And since the Republicans swore an oath to destroy him, we can't be sure of what they will do. The incentive to sabotage him is gone, though, since he won't run for re-election again, and the Democrats might be able to win back Congress if they can use the Ryan plan to their advantage.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Ryan is not a great pick Electorally !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romney just introduced him as the "next president" of the United States... hahahaha
Well, if Romney is elected he will soon be impeached and he is preparing the crowd for that eventuality.
Sorry Amelia to repeat what you also heard........You type faster!!
BUT, lets contemplate that statement with Paul Ryan as President.
I agree... very scary thought
Let's see if this gives Mitt a bump in the polls.
I'm betting it gives Obama a bump in the money department as Dems all over the country will be fired up about this.
Paul Ryan is the WORST person to be Vice President. He is a self-centered maggot that only cares about big oil.
Look at his wonderful plan: Give tax brakes to the rich and subsidies to big oil, while taking from the disabled and old.
Look back 4 years - Obama did THE SAME THING with Biden!!!
Obama Introduces Biden As 'The Next President' - Aug 22, 2008
Obama Misspeaks, Calls Biden ‘The Next President’ Aug 22, 2008
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
You betcha, fer sure. Funny thing is, Obama did exactly the same thing when introducing Biden 4 years ago.
And the seniors are very aware that Obama and his merry band of thieves stole $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
In related news: Wall Street reports a spike in sales of parachutes for wheelchairs.
Congrats for him and let me ask a few questionsWould you consider to audit the Federal Reserve? Would you consider to audit Fort Knox? Would you explain to us what is Fractional Reserve Banking System? Would you remind us when is the last time when the US was debt free? In that case would you consider to repeal Federal Reserve Act? What would you do to change the banking system witch is design to create debt. (modern money mechanics)
Yes, he did. Yes, Obama did too. So what? They're human like the rest of us who sometimes misspeak.
All of you that are commenting on Romney's mistake in his introduction of his running mate...I would like to point out just 2 of the verbal blunders that our dear President Obama has made..."57 states" and when he mispronounced the word "corpsman" which was actually worse because he didn't correct his mistake the second time he said this word in the same speach...thus indicating he didn't know how to pronounce the word in the first place...so "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".
Introducing more tax cuts for the rich and cuts for those in need. Paul Ryan is a poria
Obviously a jab a Mr. Obama who did the exact same with Joe :)
Obama did the same thing when he introduced Joe Biden.
Barack Obama did the same thing with Joe Biden, hahahahaha......... A bunch of clowns, join the circus!!!
Who cares about a little gaffe, he just handed the white house to Obama.
Thank you, Mr. Romney. I'm so glad you have come to your senses, and decided to expedite the political "kiss of death" by selecting a visionless pioneer who has constructed a plan of changing Medicare to a voucher system, as your Vice Presidential candidate. As the architect of a Budget bringing more radical expenses to the middle class, and poor who already paid into FICA their entire working careers. Mr. Ryan intends on bringing the brunt of economic pain, and economic suffering onto those in middle class after already paying the highest economic price from the 2008 Wall Street crash to fund greater tax cuts for millionaires/billionaires. What a guy......and what a recipe for political failure at the ballot box. It's sure to be a "miss" wityh seniors living on a fixed income. Remember, there are more of us in the middle class than there are of you Coporate Raiders......
See you on election day........
Obama/Biden 2012
The Ryan budget cuts mean a big windfall for the top 1% taxes down 10% to 25% and those in need cut 33% or more. Ryan is one fo the new Teabugger terrorists!
Ahhhhh, just love to see the Liberals squirm.
It is WAY past time to uphold the Constitution, to terminate Obama(doesnot)Care, to terminate any Executive Orders signed within the past 3 1/2 years, to fire ALL Liberal Cabinet members, to bar Czars/special interest groups from the White House and maybe even the beltway, to balance the budget, to cut the National Debt, to cut spending, to terminate the Federal Reserve, to consolidate/terminate duplicate Government Agencies ....for beginners.
So, Mr. Obama.....get ready to exit the White House after an inventory is complete. Just make sure you have a photo-op getting on Marine One like Nixon did. Your choice of retirement.....Cheeecago or in Georgia with Mr. Jimmy Carter.
Romney/Ryan 2012.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecbhdSLRPtc
Funny how most people didn't bother to actually check the facts... He was HAlF of the designers of an overhaul of the medicare system, the other Democrat Ron Wyden....
But of course, there is this wonderful double standard, all the negative ads couldn't be the big insurance corporation protecting their meal ticket that is Medicare.
Not sure what it matters anyways, the Affordable Healthcare is already on schedule to wipe out the Medicare system and bankrupt the whole "entitlment" plan... which is why Obama made sure he would be long out of office before the reality hit and all the sheep found they were in a den of wolves.
As an absentee CEO ("I wasn't with Bain but still signatory as CEO for 2 more years, but that was just a formality, others in the company were pulling the levers, I knew nothing. I was just acting like other contemporaries of the time were doing such as Enron, Tyco, etc....." then of course Ryan would be the "Next President". It was telling as well that his quote yesterday was "I want someone visionary as VP". Isn't that the President's role? Doesn;t look like much would change from the highly popular Cheney/Bush arrangement. Good luck guys, you're cooked.
This is a great day for the Democrats in general. With this announcement of Ryan being Willard's running mate as VP the as ease Democrats will be moved to go to the polls and vote to ensure the GOP do not take the White House nor will they dominate either house.
The sad thing is Ryan is an alumni of a very great university that I know would never be proud of a person who would design the destruction of SS, Medicare and other safety nets for the less fortunate. Ryan is one black mark on this first state Ivy League university. I for one am ashamed of him. The university would be ashamed of Ryan for wanting to destroy higher education by terminating federal support for the middle class. He knows better but cannot help his GOP indoctrination of greed and wealth at any cost. Once again this just gave the Democratic Party a shot in the arm. Obama/Biden 2012 hands down.
All you cocky Democrats: haven't you heard of "don't count your chickens before they hatch?"
Apparently not.
What a combination........Repubs choose outsourcing American jobs, tax dodging, more tax breaks for the rich and making middle class pay for them.......Killing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Post Office....gutting food stamps, veteran programs, and student loans, and numerous programs needed by the starving and poor,...all to give the rich and greedy more privatization to give more CEO's all of the rest of the money they didn't get when they crashed the economy the first time. Repubs and record obstruction blocking bills to remove subsidies for big oil when big oil says they don't need them. Blocking bills to remove tax breaks for companies that take jobs overseas, blocking bill that gives tax breaks to companies that bring jobs back, blocking bills to regulate wall street and banking so they can't crash the economy again stealing every ones pensions....pledging to take the economy down just to take the president down and be damned if if hurts you. That is what the repubs are about. Greed and more greed. $$$$$$$
Vote Obama/Biden and Team America 2012
I read the speech and I feel good for America again. I have hope for once in over three years
GOP crime factory-
They must be really excited about the coming inflation that will make their retirement look like peanuts under Obama then!!! I'm soooo happy that I get to live a longer life of poverty...Thanks Obama!
Romney/Ryan 2012!!!!!!!!! Time to shake the dust from our feet and move forward!
You obviously never paid attention to anything outside a liberal talking point...Otherwise you would remember that your messiah did the same.
Well he won't be like Obama...Obama never even finished his first term!
I think you meant to say "cue the teleprompter"...
I 2nd that emotion! Romney/Ryan will set this country right!
It wasn't Obama who made this big mess we are in, it was Romney and Ryan, oh I mean Bush and Cheney.
Hey Florida, if Romney/Ryan get in you go from Medicare to vouchers until they run out, then you pay out of your pocket. I have family and friends in Florida and I am sure they arn't happy with Romney and Ryan.
trying to get he tea partiers I suspect. I think I actually prefer...ugh.. Sarah Palin.
If pandering to the base was the goal of Mitt and Co. then I feel it's a success. But if gaining more moderates and independent was his goal then he just threw in the towel.
It was a big mistake really. Ryan is one of the worst from the do-nothing Congress. His record will come back to haunt him and take him down. There are better qualified Republicans, but the base, which is the Republicans REAL problem dictates everything.
Correction, Romney/Ryan will set this country TO THE right...
Which is exactly while he'll loose and why you people just don't get it. 80% of America is in the opposite direction from the extremes in the Republican party. People are waking up to the fact you're all a bunch of social engineers.
Retirements are better now then when Obama took office. Where do you get your figures, Cracker Jacks stopped putting toys in their product a long time ago?
It's as if Romney WANTS to lose the election.
Obama's moral corruption is destined to create friction in the mind of any principled American. Interestingly, just when I personally thought Obama could not become any more morally corrupt, I recently learned he has made yet another Faustian deal with the devil. In this case, he has appointed the "King Of Gay Pornography" to his campaign finance committee, patted him on the back and told him to keep up the good work.
Barack Obama has made it clear he plans to continue with his war on America, the Catholic Church, US Christians, success, small business and American socioeconomic thinking! As a result, this is creating backlash, even from within his own party. Conservatives like to complain that Barack Obama is the most liberal president we've ever had, a closet Marxist who's determined to turn America into a socialist hell and that his despotic socialist agenda is the big lie of the twentieth century. Historians realize world history provides compelling proof that Obama's brand of socialism promised prosperity, equality, and security, but has only delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Historically, equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery!
Those historic facts aside, Obama has crafted a shrewd campaign from a worldly perspective. Of note is the fact a significant portion of his campaign strategy was based on development of strategic alliances with many of the most godless and morally debased segments of our society in a thinly veiled effort to secure votes from those "the Obama administration believes" to be one dimensional, intellectually compromised, single issue constituencies. Many in this group had the misfortune of growing up in a broken home. The resulting dysfunction in these homes leads to emotional instability, mental illness and severe narcissism producing a common thread and liberal bias.
Beyond requisite intellectual acumen, our upcoming president MUST have a strong moral foundation and acute, politically savvy awareness the principles of prudent governance. Unfortunately for America, Obama's morally vapid strategic political alliances clearly disqualify him from this hallowed leadership role. For that reason, more and more moderate and conservative principled members of the democratic party believe they must abandon Obama's candidacy and their party line vote for the long term good of our country! Essentially, they believe it is best to retreat and return to fight another day when the Democratic party can submit a candidate who is willing to uphold traditional American values rather than to attempt to destroy the country from within.
Just what America needs, another R & R team permanently out to lunch.
Mitt Romney has now added a boat anchor to his campaign which will just drag him further under water. Paul Ryan only appeals to the Teapots in the Republican party and he will not add anything to the tally of votes for Mitt Romney. He will only add lots of noise and emotion to a failing campaign. Paul Ryan wants to privatize everything that the government does, which will only appeal to business interests looking to profit. He is another trickle down failed economic idealogue as well. Mitt has now fully alienated most of the independent voting groups in his VP choice. This will ultimately lead to the biggest defeat for the Republican Party since Barry Goldwater was selected as their presidential candidate.
Offering a plan that cuts Medicare and actually cutting Medicare are two different things. So far only Obama has actually cut Medicare as part of ObamaCare, as if seniors aren't going to be reminded of that fact all through the fall campaign. So do liberals really think that just because Ryan offered a plan he is doomed, when Obama has already cut 500 billion out of Medicare? Ryan's plan cut Medicare to save it, Obama cut Medicare to start another massive entitlement. Just another record Obama will try and run from this fall.
redrockraven-
He has REAL answers to the problems that America has. Obama has had control of the house, the senate and the executive office. In this time he added 4.2 million jobs, and 1.5% GDP growth rate.
Reagan in his first term, using similar tactics to that of the Ryan plan, created 11 million jobs, and had the highest GDP increase in modern times!
If the knee jerk reaction of the administration to Paul Ryan is to call him radical and extreme,
Then I know we have found the right VP pick!
Beyond Obama's moral corruption, he has increased our debt by more than any president in U.S. history! In fact, in less than 3 ½ years he has increased the debt at double the rate Bush increased debt over his entire 8 year term. Obama is absolutely out of control and has totally refused to follow the recommendations of his own democratic deficit-reduction commission! Think about that for a minute. As a result of his socialist agenda and reckless fiscal policy, Obama ratcheted up America’s Debt to GDP ratio at an unthinkable rate placing America in a very similar position to that of Portugal, Ireland and Italy.
Anyone with even a scintilla of intellectual acumen need only glimpse at the impact "Obama style socialism" has had in Europe to bear witness to America's future under Obama. On the verge of defaulting on government debts, people are living under crushing austerity measures. Countless jobs have been wiped out; the official unemployment rate is 15-21%. Salaries have been cut to the bone. Pensions and health benefits have been slashed. Tourism industry is a shambles. Tens of thousands of workers have taken to the streets to protest a problem they thought they'd never see in their lifetime! In picturesque plazas, beggars outnumber tourists and protesters outnumber beggars. In front of Parliament, riot police stand watch to protect big spending socialist lawmakers from angry mobs.
It is this kind of chaos that lies in wait should Obama be reelected! Even if clear thinking Americans unseat him, the damage he has done will require an austerity pill and a good dose of Cod liver oil to ease the pain! God help America! Obama has built his house on shifting sand and when the winds of the "most reckless fiscal policy in American history" blow, he and his godless house will surely fall!
It's the economy stupid!
I see all the limp-wristed Libbies are in a panic. Of course they're all on here with their indoctrinated talking points and bravado as they all hold hands singing Kumbaya.
The reality is we finally have a ticket that will be able to do the most important thing, create an economy that will once again thrive. It's easy to see the Liberals/Progressives quivering as their sacrosanct and failing entitlements and social programs will be addressed and finally corrected. Rather than denying the failures of government, Romney and Ryan will address them and give America the opportunity to become the economic force it can and should be.
Of course the Liberals/Progressives are out with their hate, anger and vitriol because they see the challenge will now be centered on issues rather than histrionics. They see a stumbling, bumbling, incompetent junior Senator who was elected simply on historic means rather than policy and a walking imbecile VP who is a joke a minute being confronted on 3 1/2 years of failure.
For as much as the Liberals/Progressives CLAIM they want change, they resist it at every opportunity. Nothing has changed, it's only gotten worse. 24 million Americans are still under/unemployed, 43 months of unemployment over 8%. Stagnant growth, home values at historic lows, education an embarrassment, unfair trade agreements, a criminal tax system, irrational regulations and consumer confidence at all time lows.
Social Security is on life support yet the Liberals/Progressives just hope it will continue on its own. A health care reform that has not only been worsened, it may have been destroyed for future generations. Our financial system out of control and Holder just absolved Golden Sacks of any wrongdoing.
We need new leadership. Leadership that understand that the private sector is the only engine that will fix our economic calamity going on 6 years. We can start by simply creating a believable achievable budget that the Liberals/Progressives obviously don't believe the biggest economy in history needs.
As we all know "it's the economy stupid". Barack Hussein and Joe "Bite Me" Biden have done nothing to fix it. Other than throw good money after bad the typical Liberal/Progressive solution to everything. Of course, because it's never their money. For a century Progressivism has created the economic hardship we all are facing now, yet the Liberals don't understand that. Liberals/Progressives don't understand that fairness is NOT taking from those that work hard and give it to those that don't. But when you have poor social, moral and personal skills that’s the only way Liberals can survive.
It's a shame so many Americans have submitted to the omnipotent altar of Big Government because they have no more pride, self-esteem or ambition left. With all the waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in government they willingly submit themselves to elitists who have never created anything but chaos.
America is built upon the foundation of equal opportunity, Liberals expect equal outcomes. This is the horrible disconnect the lost and confused souls on the Left have been dragged into by their sacrosanct government. It's time to break that horrible addiction and make everyone be productive and not filled with envy and self-pity.
It's time to restore American exceptionalism, despite the Lefts resistance.
Romney/Ryan 2012 for real Americans!
Rick, you're right about all the cuts under the Affordable Care Act. Seniors on medicare can no longer get hip and knee replacements so all they can do is suffer with the pain. Haven't read all the details of Ryan's plan but I can imagine it's designed to SAVE medicare for the future. Most liberals only live in the moment and don't care about future generations.

You mean everything that our government does so well? Things like these?
The federal government made at least $125 billion in improper payments in 2010.
Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.
The Congressional Budget Office published a “Budget Options” series identifying more than $140 billion in potential spending cuts.
Health care fraud is estimated to cost taxpayers more than $200 billion annually.
And my favorite:
Government auditors spent the past five years examining all federal programs and found that 22 percent of them–costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually–fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve.
Here’s proof of your wonderful governments incompetence. Especially your sacrosanct social programs. Doesn’t it bother you Liberals that we have so much rabid government waste, fraud, abuse and corruption? Please don’t embarrass yourself by blaming it on the Republicans, you know virtually every social program is a result of Democrats ideology of wealth redistribution.
By the way, if you’d like, I have over 400 more examples.
We are a Federal Constitutional Republic, the Constitution mandates the 18 Enumerated Powers. When government decided to intrude on virtually every aspect of our lives is when it began its inevitable collapse. The benefits of a Republic outstrip Democracy’s. The principle of Federalisms dual sovereignty must be reestablished. If not we will be comparing notes with Japan’s two lost decades, or worse yet, the European Unions demise.
Romney/Ryan for real Americans!
Romney made a great pick!
This will push Wisconsin to Romney, and will aid him in most of the swing states where he needs some more boost.
Being the left wing scoffing gets ratched up a couple of notches, so this is an outstanding choice.
When you listen and capitulate to scoffers, you never have peace and you will never prosper.
Romney/Ryan 2012 - sanity in government is on the way!
Its as if Ryan is kidding when he says lets stop subsidizing rich people...
Amelia3
O'bama did the same thing ahahaha...How many states do we have again?
This screwing up the VP choice is getting to be a Republican custom! This time "Polarizing" Paul Ryan, last time Sarah Palin...and before that Dick Cheney proved to be not too wise a choice. Who are they going to nominate in 2016 (because now they sure as hell aren't getting elected!), Pee-Wee Herman? And they'd probably think that would be a good choice to beat Hillary Clinton's ticket!
redrockraven
Hmmmm, do you mean Reagans trickle-down or Obama's?
You must mean Obama's. You know, the one where he poured $863 billion into the top of our criminal government and expected it to "trickle-down" to all those "shovel-ready" jobs.
OOPS, wait a minute, Barrack Hussein and Jeff Immelt laughed in your face when he told us, "I guess those shovel-ready jobs weren't quite ready".
From that $863 billion dollars we have "saved or created" 4.5 million jobs. So it only costs government $197,000 to create a job. Yep, that's a hell of a "trickle-down" isn't it?
At least Reagans trickle-down created 92 months of uninterrupted growth. That’s almost 31 quarters. The longest peacetime expansion EVER!
Try to keep up Spanky.
Satanic
Government policies were dictating who got loans from 1999 to today. You may have noticed that Goldman-Sachs will not be prosecuted. That is because they and so many others bought bad loans from those that made them. Then they sold them just as they were sold to them.
2008 was a collapse brought on by Government not wanting to know what their policies were forcing banks and finance to do to operate on a daily basis.
Because of the collapse, the Democrats have taken the opportunity to make government a supreme being to the point that banks make no loan decisions. They can only approve loans if they meet 1100 pages of government regulations that few businesses can pass.
The only financial institutions taken to court are over discrimination, not making illegal loans.
You seem like a smart person, but get this right! Mostly what the government does is threaten an institution. If the institution caves, they pay big bucks and continue to operate. I.E. it operates just like the mob is supposed to operate, except the mob doesn't work that way anymore for the most part.
Romney should have Ryan give all his speeches from here on out.
Whine is fine and hate is great! Good luck GOP you just ignited Obama's base and the Independants. Very clever... hahahaha Plplplplplplplpl
A warm welcome to the Republican's "Bevis & Butthead". Actually they make Bevis & Butthead look extremely intelligent. My sincere apologies to Bevis & Butthead and all their fans, myself included.
I bet Obama has a real big smile on his face today during his weekly address.
Almost immediately the democratic sleaze merchants will begin to ply their muck against Ryan. The reality is that they have many attack ads ready to go and they just needed a name to plug in. After all, in lieu of any actual accomplishment, this is what they need to do, this is all they can do.
Do you know what happens when too many stupid people vote? The democrat wins.
The democratic party is indeed the party of the dregs of society.
hallelujah!! Romney must have picked a good one as THE NEXT VICE PRESIDENT based on the negative comments you liberal Obama plantation workers are writhing against Ryan. If you thought he was a terrible choice and no threat to the democrats you wouldn't be writing such negative lies. You must be scared to death. At least I haven't heard him say that "during the depression President Roosevelt went on "T.V." to talk to the nation." I like the statement of Ronald Reagan, the greatest president of modern times, "It's not that we think our liberal friends are stupid, it's just that they no so much about nothing."
Jim
First of all, "trickle down" was a term invented by democrats for across the board tax cuts. They did this by emphacizing the tax cut money that went to the rich (equal percentage of cut at the expense of deductions btw) would only "trickle down" to some people. Based on the results from any times such across the board tax cuts, anyone motivated to work moves forward swiftly.
Second, Obama once said that his tax cuts would "trickle up" to the rich. But what actually happens is that the rich stop spending on new adventures and leave their money sit in current investments. I.E. with the Democrat polices the benefit of keeping your money in the US is now a liability, so If you are watching, there are now a story or two each week on wealthy people moving out of the country. What the Democrats polices are doing is reducing the movement of money to a trickle.
While I believe this was a smart choice for his running partner, I still will not be voting for Mitt Romney. That said I will also not be voting for obama either as the few things he promised in his campaign that actually made me want him as president were not fulfilled. Unfortunately in Idaho my vote does not matter and Mitt will win here (very republican/mormon oriented here) but i will be abstaining from the vote unless roseanne makes it on our ballots here in which case she will get my vote, if we are going to hell in a handbasket may as well have one of the best damn comediennes at the helm!
Good job Flip Flopney! Ignite the lunatic fringe... Hooray. Oh wait... This is going to ignite Obama's base too. Uh ooohh! Oh and the Independent voters, yeah they love extremists, that's why they move to the center. Delicious sarcasm... Plplplplplplplplplplplplplplplplplplplplpl
LOLZ......Read this stuff and....Well quantify it? Give me more than your word about all this Czar cabinet stuff and how all these conspiracy things will happen "long after Obama is out of office"....Explain to me exactly what is happening, in the shadows, and show me some evidence? Good source ...anything? See I open books and I watch all news channels and I pay attention to c-span...you know real government ongoings.....and I just have to say this....Most of the postings are word vomit and Mitt is making bad decisions...Because Ryan is proposing social Darwinism for our elderly....and even republicans get old....Ryan admits this and it is apparent in his legislature......No one here has explained to me what Obama has done exactly to make our economic situation worse......And since when did republicans want government involved in creating jobs (private industry)? The single largest loss of wealth....IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND happened in 08'. The asset value of the middle class took the primary hit of 2-3 trillion dollars of overvalued real estate....Explain to me the LONG TERM ramifications are of this....Because you are a complete and utter moron, if you do not realize there are long term ramifications of this great loss of wealth. This wealth was lost to people who consistently (2000-2008) were given tax breaks and low capital gains tax......and you really want to go back there? Really? What filled that vacuum of wealth that was lost? That didn't affect the average household's disposable income? These are the common sense questions you should be asking yourself instead of grabbing onto the comments of paid entertainers (such as Rush Hannity etc....They are under the entertainment industy Corp registry and all....Wouldn't bank on their info personally). My suggestion...Prove it to yourself don't just be a parrot for these "news" / paid entertainers. Watch real government (CSPAN) research your facts from reliable sources.....Try the COB and the various department websites..such as the labor department..........educate ..please stop regurgitating words and get some fact.
Kornfed - we have 57 states and territories...
WW - actually, the saying is: "Stupid people are funny until they vote TeaPublican."
Keep the public fighting and you can rob them blind, why they will even help you if you promise them you won't rob them.
IM - if'n yer not gonna vote, then nothing you say here holds any water.
So wet willy you think stupidity is gauged by what you disagree with? You think that you can solve problems with problems and because the solution is different than your narrow minded belief it makes us stupid? Good luck with that soggy weiner aproach pal.
Fvvvvvvvvvvvvvvttttt
TRUTHMACHINE,
When did Romney start a war, when did he pass tax cuts for the rich?
Wow. A couple'a bland rich white-boy no-names, both lacking charisma, partnering together for a futile campaign. Poster Boy Whiteys got no game.
The Pubecians are gonna lose big time to my hero Oogah-Boogah's 2nd Term Machine. A reincarnation of the joke Death By Oogah-Boogah.
Bugfart 3.69
Look at the facts. Obama has amassed a voting block of 100 million welfare recipients that will vote for him no matter what. All he needed to do, he reasoned, was to give them other people's money and he'll have their vote on election day providing the buses will be available to round them and take them to vote. How's that for stupidity? And by the way, how's life in the collective?
RomneyHood just pulled the bait & switch on everyone, he was being distracted by Harry Reid and needed someone to take the attention off him self and who better than good ole Ryan, remember Romney is no idiot he is as slick as they come, and you have to give him that one, because he is smart.
IdahoMother... if you think Idaho and Idaho voters are so bad, why don't you go back to California where the liberals, etc., have already destroyed one state. Just a thought... you'll be a lot happier again. We like Idaho just fine the way it was and will be again.
I like the comparison to Beavis and Butthead. This seems like a fairly accurate description of the presumptive Republican candidates to date. Luckily, the average voter is not going to be impressed with their antics.
Unfortunately, the Ryan budget will only balance the budget in 2030, while destroying the economy and sending the U.S. back to the Dark Ages. Hope your state can handle a feudal system!!!
Didn't Reagan raise taxes 11 times and increase the size of the federal workforce????
Ha!!! Romney and Ryan don't know the first thing about creating an economy to thrive. All they focus on is tax cuts and deregulation, which blew up the economy and led to a widening gap between rich and poor. Ryan doesn't even solve Medicare; he pushes the cost onto seniors.
You want to know why we have all these @!$%#ing problems???? Because one party decided to focus on tax cuts and deregulation as an economic stimulus, which blew up the debt, sent millions to the poor house, sank the economy, and dragged the nation down under. Education isn't updated to modern times; I personally have my own plan to fix it.
Why don't we just increase the payroll tax by 2% points and remove the cap on employers???? That would save Social Security. And what we need is REAL healthcare reform; not this "patient-centered" crap that is just another term for doing something negligible.
I wish we had a budget; see, not all liberals are as idiotic as you think. Secondly, the private sector IS NOT WORKING; there is no consumer demand. And no amount of tax cuts or deregulation is going to solve that problem. What we need is an infrastructure program; we need billions of dollars to rebuild our roads and bridges, which will create jobs and boost demand. You need to realize that DEMAND, not SUPPLY, creates jobs.
Are you @!$%#ing kidding me???? CONSERVATIVE IDEAS caused this damn mess!!! The concept that you can let the financial market regulate itself FAILED miserably. The only real economic expansion the U.S. has ever had was the postwar expansion, after the institutions of the progressive New Deal and the progressive tax code. But when the right derailed us in the 1980s, we've gone from one bubble to another. And as for wealth redistribution; the top 1% controls 25% of all income!!!! The government reserves the right to redistribute wealth when inequality grows too high, and we are at the HIGHEST levels of income inequality since the 1920s!!! The past 30 years has been nothing but wealth redistribution to the top.
Tell me how we can be the land of equal opportunity when healthcare and college costs are skyrocketing and income inequality is at a record peak???? We will only be the land of opportunity when we realize that tax cuts for the rich and deregulation DO NOT SOLVE ANYTHING.
Yes, vote for Romney and Ryan!!! They will drag America back to the Dark Ages.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Freshieee
OK Freshieee, I’ll play a little with you.
Hmmmm, so explain this to me. We borrow more money to fix infrastructure right? Then we use that money we paid the workers with to create “demand”, right? Demand for what? A Boeing 757? A D-9 bulldozer? An MRI machine? Those are just a part of what we have left being manufactured here. (I’m not even sure about that because if you buy a GE MRI machine it may be built offshore as 2/3’s of their workforce is offshore now. But I digress). Now you take your money and you go to WalMart, Target or other big-box chain and you buy a toaster, a pair of tennis shoes and an iPod. Yes, you’re right, you just created demand, IN CHINA, MALAYSIA, TAIWAN or other offshore country. And you just created a few more jobs, mostly for them. Congratulations! You just added to our $600 BILLION trade deficit. Sure, our $timulu$ that you keep defending created the $7.25/hr. stock-boy job or a hospitality job or a temp job with little or no benefits here. As I’ve explained to you these pathetic 4.5 million jobs cost us almost $200,000 each to “save or create”. Now please don’t embarrass yourself claiming that some of the money was for tax credits or other manipulations, they were all designed to CREATE JOBS!!!!! You can’t divide them out.
So, we borrow money create minimum wage jobs here, buy imports, most of the money and profits goes offshore, and creates demand and jobs there and you’re happy?
90% of the jobs here are retail, hospitality, social assistance and temp jobs. The other 10% is domestic exportable manufacturing, the only real jobs that will recreate our wealth, prosperity and allow us to pay off our massive debt we keep creating by borrowing more money. Like I told you before, we would have been better off giving each business $50,000 with the provision they had to create a job. At least that way we could have helped 17 million Americans get a job for a while.
By the way, isn’t Barrack Hussein’s “Job Czar”, Jeff Immelt, the CEO of GE? You realize GE employs over 300,000 people overseas, right? I think that’s a lot more than what Romney may have caused. Think about it.
I won’t post my usual and accurate argument why Romney and Ryan will create a better economy by asking you this. What credentials did Barrack Hussein and Joe “Bite Me” Biden bring to create an economy to thrive? I’ll give you some time to think on that one.
Yeah, those nasty ole tax cuts never generate any revenue do they? Or do they.

OH WOW, LOOK!
It seems that even with the nasty, mean, “unfair” Bush tax cuts revenues (in constant FY 2005 dollars) grew from a low of 1,901.1 in 2003 (after the dot-com recession and 9/11) to a high of 2,414.0 in 2007 before the economy collapsed. They even surpassed the highest revenue year under the Clinton administration (2000).
Yes, deficit grew also, but that was because of Bush’s exorbitant spending.
NOT BECAUSE OF REVENUE LOSS!
Hmmm, so tell me how it was Conservatives fault that our criminal Attorney General refused to prosecute Golden Sacks (Goldman Sachs) yesterday for their involvement in the housing and liquidity collapse? You Libbies have to learn you can write all the regulations you want. Until our government is willing to enforce them, they’re just 144,000 pages of gibberish.
PUHLEEEZ STOP with this endless banter about the New Deal creating the expansion of our wealth post WW II. The economy began to churn after the war because we and the rest of the world were recovering from a decade long Depression, (that by the way would have been a 18-24 month recession at worst had FDR done what Harding did during the Depression of 1920, but I digress again) and a world war that left virtually every industrial nation in ruins. America and the world needed rebuilding and rebuild it we did. Our economy expanded because we turned the biggest war industry in history and created everything from refrigerators to TV’s to Hoola-Hoops. If the world needed it, we built it. It had nothing to do with “progressive taxes”. We collected the same amount of revenue when taxes were 90% as we did today, about 18% +/-2 for total tax receipts as a percentage of GDP and about 8.6% for income taxes as a percentage of GDP.
Can you show me where in Article 1, Section 8 the government has this Right? Please don’t embarrass yourself by trying to use the General Welfare Claus, Necessary and Proper Clause or the Commerce Clause, they don’t apply.
Romney/Ryan 2012 for real Americans.
I see Ryan as a Radical ideologue whose views would jeopardize popular middle class programs, Ryan is a Phony !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, many of the goods we buy are imports (thanks to a trade policy that is too idealistically focused on free trade and not on reality); but not all of them are. For example; those construction workers may buy cars; those cars are a product of numerous nations, but chances are they will be assembled in the U.S, creating manufacturing jobs. There are still a lot of things that are made in America, just not enough. And a job is a job. The idea of stimulus is to get the economy back to its potential output, or at least spur up consumer demand and confidence enough to get the private sector back and rolling. And technically, we create demand EVERYWHERE; the more jobs produced, the more imports are necessary. It doesn't matter whether government does it or businesses does it; it just brings imports up (unless we revert to make trade policy more fair and rational).
The stimulus did cost a lot to "save or create," but no matter the cost it was worth getting out of the damn recession.
Do you want to stay in this damn recession for another 10 years???? Do you also want our long-term productivity to slump and another generation to grow up in an impoverished environment with little hope to spare????
First of all, manufacturing consists of roughly 15% of U.S. employment. Secondly, I think both of us can agree that we need more manufacturing jobs, regardless of ideological beliefs. Thirdly, I see no point in giving a business $50,000 and just praying for them to create a job. For one thing, that business might not even use the money to hire someone; hell, they might just cut their private debt, balance their accounting sheets, or do something else. For another, businesses do not hire if you give them a tax break or some money; they will hire when there is demand, and when that demand is higher than their current production capacity. Since consumer demand is low, the government (as the last possible investor) should step in to make up the difference in order to return the economy to around full employment.
Perhaps, perhaps. Then again, Jeffrey Immelt is not running for the presidency, and to be exact I don't think he was the one who shipped 300,000 jobs overseas; he probably had something to do with it, but is not responsible for the entire overseas workforce.
Well, you have a point there. Obama technically wasn't much in the business of business, and neither was Biden. But being a businessman does not necessarily make you qualified to become president. In addition, the Romney/Ryan plans have been vetted and will most likely tank the economy in the short term. Assuming that the Ryan budget is made law, it will severely reduce demand and reduce employment over the next few years, making an already-slow recovery sluggish at best. And to be exact, both of them are fixated on the debunked notion of supply-side economics, which was proven as a fail during the Bush administration.
First of all, you fail to account for things like economic growth and inflation. Secondly, considering those two factors, of course revenues are going to rise; unless we go through a 20-year stagnation like Japan. Thirdly, just because absolute revenues went up does not mean that the Bush tax cuts boosted revenues. According to this chart, revenues to GDP (which accounts for economic growth and inflation) dropped below the 18% average under Bush.
And his expensive tax cuts....
Tell that to the CBO...
I never said anything about Eric Holder; what I said was that conservatives have promoted and enacted supply-side and deregulatory policies that left the market to regulate itself, which it did not. And so the economy collapsed.
True, but then again World War II vindicated Keynesian economics, as it boosted the economy. We were unrivaled, that is also true, but we also had a domestic system that ensured that the prosperity that America had (thanks to innovative manufacturing techniques and the destruction of rival industries via World War II) was shared EQUALLY, thanks in part to the progressive policies of the New Deal. You can argue about the New Deal not lifting us out of the Great Depression (and technically it was the tariffs that extended the Great Depression, along with a lack of regulations), but you cannot say that it had nothing to do with the postwar boom.
That right is not explicitly stated in the Constitution. It is more of an unofficial code of law written in the minds of egalitarian and Enlightenment-minded economists. ALL governments, including the U.S, can and will redistribute wealth via a progressive tax. That right, however, only comes into effect when income inequality is at an all-time high and is stunting economic growth (as it is right now). And I am really tired of this old-school "follow the Constitution by the word" bull@!$%#. The document was written before things like derivative markets, globalization, or monetary policy, for God's sake. The Founders never even grasped the concept of economic egalitarianism; if they did, they probably didn't think that America would be divided on the concept of wealth. We cannot lead America to prosperity in the 21st century while having an 18th century government and state of mind. It's like trying to teach others about the theory of evolution with a rigidly Creationist mindset; it's damn right impossible.
Ryan won't even balance the freaking budget by 2030 and will do so by throwing the entire fiscal burden on seniors, the middle class, and the poor while giving the rich tax breaks for being "so powerful and so devoted to creating jobs." How anyone could vote for those two idiots is beyond my understanding. At least go for a moderate or relatively reasonable conservative like John McCain (even though he's not the old moderate he used to be) or John Huntsman; but Romney (the puppet of the Tea Party) and Paul Ryan (the mastermind of the destruction of progressive social programs) is worse than Bush and Cheney!!!
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
DID YOU HEAR WHAT WE HEARD?
Romney inVA Beach says "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan"
WTF if that man's brain doing in that think skull???? "Every now and then I make a mistake"
Yup as when you decided to run for the most important job in the country and maybe when "I love to fire people" as when you won't release your tax returns because they are so incendiary.????
Maybe he's going to be like Sarah and not finish his elected term too
You Go Mitt RobMe !
Another patented Romney gaffe.
Obama campaign cue the next ad please......
Maybe that was Romney's concession speach?
I wonder who Paul Ryan is going to pick for his VP at the convention?
See 2.15 above OBXRon.
no worse than Obama talking about America's 57 states or Biden telling a man in a wheelchair to stand up !
Obama ALSO introduced Biden as the next President on accident. How quickly the liberal minds forget........
Look back 4 years - Obama did THE SAME THING with Biden!!!
Obama Introduces Biden As 'The Next President' - Aug 22, 2008
Obama Misspeaks, Calls Biden ‘The Next President’ Aug 22, 2008
The man who pledged on day one to make Obama a 1 term president by blocking any program he proposed is a shining example of being able to work with members of both parties??? Can Romney open his mouth without a lie coming out?
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
You betcha, fer sure. Funny thing is, Obama did exactly the same thing when introducing Biden 4 years ago.
And the seniors are very aware that Obama and his merry band of thieves stole $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
Obama introduces Biden as next president.
http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2012/08/11/flashback_obama_introduces_biden_as_next_president
Obama did the same thing child. grow up
Paul Ryan slammed by Catholic Church for wanting to cut programs for the poor and middle class!
From Catholicculture.org 4/2012
CWN - April 18, 2012
From Our Store: Moral Issues (eBook)
Bishop Stephen Blaire, chairman of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), said that proposed budget cuts recently passed by the House of Representatives “failed to meet [the] moral criteria” set forth by the USCCB.
In four letters addressed to leaders of congressional committees, Bishop Blaire weighed in on several cuts to specific programs:
Joined by Bishop Richard Pates, chairman of the USCCB’s International Committee on Justice and Peace, Bishop Blaire also emphasized the importance of six domestic programs (WIC, TEFAP, SNAP, CSFP, CSP, and VAPG) and four international programs (PL-480 Title II, Safe Box, Local and Regional Purchase, and 202e Funds).
They make an adorable couple. Best wishes.
It's a sad day when the biggest headline from the Liberal media is a mistake in an introduction, hey remember when OBAMA did the same thing!!!!!!!
I sure hope people listened to more of the speeches than just that, we are in real trouble and we do need someone that tells the truth and not just blow smoke uo our butts !!!!!!!!!!
"Stupid is as stupid does Sir" That just about sums up the VP choice!
XLNT! Another case of the Veep running the country and the POTUS being the guy who signs what is put in front of him. That seemed to work so well the last time that we are still trying to fix the mess they left behind.
this is the first time i can say i agree with the catholic church!
It really isn't news to make a silly gaffe like that. But you on the right saying but Obama did it, are definitely the ones that remember because you were saying the same things the left is now about Romney. So let them have their little fun and quit being hypocrites.
Hey... Obama did the same thing!
Thought I'd say it again for all you TeaGoobers who missed the first dozen of those same exact comments...
I know you all remember when Obama did it....But you seem to forget what happened with our try at austerity.....You don't remember that one? The important things that happened? Single biggest loss of wealth ...Ever...that the middle class footed the bill for....So our financial system would stay intact (So it wouldnt be like Germany after WW1)...Just sayin...Just sayin
I can care less who this Clown picks for VP, Romney is more of a Moron than a Mormon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romney-Ryan -- real reform and our path to recovery.
From the mistakes that Paul Ryan made to begin with.
Weird right, Paul Ryan and his policies under Bush led to the economic collapse and now we want to take him seriously to fix it? With the same crap that caused it...only teabaggers would think thats sound logic
To "We the corporations": Sorry to expose your ignorance, but it was liberal policies that led to the economic issues in 2008 - overspending by government, loose monetary policies, etc. The Liberals need to start looking at the facts and not just regurgitating Obama campaign slogans.
Unite America...re-build America...Romney-Ryan 2012!
Your kidding, right?
Those 3 comments here must have auditioned for the Betty White show----
And the collapse happened at about the end of 8 years of George--possibly need to take those dementia meds--- Then if you can remember more--how much surpluss was it that Clinton gave us all???--but then Bush got his hands on the till!!!!!------?????? ----He even stole all the water from his home state------possibly he wants to charge for that too??? but global warming is still a theory right?---take a trip over Greenland---- and so on--- and on---
You are either out of your mind ( my first choice) or just hate your family. These 2 have no intention of doign anything to help the people. They are out for one thing...the wealth they can syphon out of our populations bank accounts and retirement funds.
Feel free to break out the troll smack but the truth is the truth..you all cant or wont read and you are in total denial. These 2 will be our undoing.
Have the members of Team Red and Team Blue got their silly string cans on lock and load? Ready... aim... let the nonsense begin.
There should be an ad showing an elderly lady in a wheelchair throwing an infant off a cliff ! By age, the group with the largest assets are the elderly. Maybe they should have them all.
If you think Obama is championing the middle and/or lower class, you better look at the numbers. The gap between the rich and poor has not been this wide since the roaring 20s. Even though Obama said in his inaugural speech he was going to kick special interests out of DC, they own the town. (Even with the Democrats holding congress) When is Obama going to start living up to his promises. Pork out of bills ? The health care bill is a zillion pages because of pork. Vote for what I say, not for what I do.
Note: Democrats controlled congress when Obama was inaugurated.
Obama reminds of one of those monsters in the movies that keeps consuming and growing in size and strength. Growing the government gives the president more power, like those movie monsters.
What a joke. The right-wing HAVE NO PLAN. You can scream it from the mountaintops, close your eyes and clench your first real tight and tap your heels 3 times does not make it so. Your plan to have your "America Back" is segregation, failed supply-side economics proven failure, tax cuts for the wealthy and corporate welfare.
You sheep can build factories, distribution centers, malls and shops and line them up from New York to Los Angeles with ZERO taxes it won't mean squat. They will all sit vacant because there will be no consumers to buy. Your buzzwords "Job Creators" that you apply to the wealthy is a misrepresentation. The consumer is the "Job Creator". Without them nothing else rolls. Supply follows consumption. Always has, always will. You backwards @ss hillbillies.
True, but Obama hasn't significantly grown the government. It's pretty much the same size (in spending) as it was when he took office.
@ Salvia58-3789575
So, what policies did Obama create to make the gap between rich and poor so wide? What policies Obama use to create more foodstamp? What policies did Obama cause to create this economic?
Oh, you can't tell because guess what? Obama didn't do all these thing. He just become president in one of toughest economic and these thing happens.
Funny you blame him and yet have no idea what is happening at all.
Oh yes because Bush and a republican congress didn't control the white house during the years before the economic crash. Sarah, you deserve the morons that will strip you for everything you have and then leaving you starving in the street.
Old people should just stay out of the debate on Medicare and SS. By the time reform comes out of congress the non-affected age will be in the high 40's but not past 55. We are a democracy. So liberal cities that pandered to public unions and the cradle robbing federal government, we all have to take blame. Everyone knows reform is coming, even the President. It is not a partisan issue e.g. Simpson-Bowles. If President Obama does win the pandering to gays, blacks and immigrants will stop. He certainly doesn't want to be remembered as the president that collapsed the country. Just like the pandering to the election machine public unions has stopped in California. It's the hard slap of reality. Raise taxes to the point where nobody wants to live in your God forsaken city or reform spending.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2011-06-06-us-debt-chart-medicare-social-security_n.htm
First off, the "proposed" overhaul in Medicare is still a discussion. Being Vice President won't give him any more latitude. Still requires a majority vote from both Houses of Congress....
It is also co-written with a Democratic Senator (Ron Wyden) and oddly enough, Wyden's name appears first... Nice way for the media to spin it, though.
The fact is, they know Medicare is failing, and ALL have said it was more in need then the general Insurance Industry.
It also, if passed today, would not affect anyone prior to 2023... 11 years!!!
Shining part of the proposal, offer alternatives, create competition for your business... instead of the "this is the medicare requirement" regulations in place now...
It was the same model Clinton's Healthcare plan was based on, which Wyden also had a hand in.
Technically, overspending did not destroy the economy. And the leader of monetary policy was a self-avowed monetarist by the name of Alan Greenspan. And thirdly, the major drivers of our short-term deficits are the Bush tax cuts and the recession. Finally, deregulation technically blew up the housing and financial markets.
Unfortunately, competition doesn't always work, especially when it comes to healthcare. People don't know when they will need it, and that beats any advantage that competition brings. Plus there is no real option; people either get a relatively good package with traditional Medicare, or get screwed by the government with a tiny voucher. Ryan could have easily fixed Medicare by ending the fee-for-service payment mechanism. But I assume that he is intent on destroying the safety net in its current form.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Ryan's a great choice! Slash that damn budget, cut spending and cut taxes. Actually, Ernie or Bert from Sesame Street would be better than "Foot in Mouth" Biden.
Agreed!
You do understand that the "tax cut" is on those in the upper income categories? Good for you if you are one of them and will benefit from this approach as the rest of us eat crackers while you get the caviar.
Just like every democratic mayor from San Jose to Stockton is doing
Ernie and Bert would be in favor of gay marriage as well, so they have a lot in common with the latest position Obama/Biden has taken.
Paul Ryan as a VP signals Romney is serious about getting the economy moving again.
So much human misery and suffering has been spread by Obama and his progressive fiscal policies, they are hostile to business and economic growth, create uncertainty, threaten higher taxes (on all, not just the nebulous 'rich') which causes businesses to tighten their belts in anticipation of sluggish times and not hire... which directly creates this non-recovery horrid unemployment crisis we are currently in.
Obama and the Democrats keep religiously chanting 'STIMULUS!', in their effort to expand governments power over people, but the results are in (once again if you bother to study economic history), and those policies have failed.
The stimulus they thought they were applying turns out to be a big government boot heel on the neck of the American economy, and the destructive effects of that are driving so many Americans to pain it is unconscionable.
Excuse me but has everyone here forgotten who handles the purse strings of the country??? Its NOT Obama or Biden..its the congress so lets get the facts right ok? You R's are so full of hot air..you dont even no this??? When are you gonna start fact checking instead of blindly following?
Nothing in Romneys plan slashes spending it merely spends it differently. Romneys tax cut is merely transferring tax burden from the the rich to the middle class by eliminating middle class exemptions like taxing employer health plans. Any cuts to spending on social programs won't be half the 260 billion he proposes increasing military spending by. Republicans always talk about being fiscally conservative but the only president in recent memory to balance the budget was Clinton. Both Bushes and Reagan had massive deficit spending.
Your right Larry
Republicans never worry about spendign when they are in office....or deficits either.
BSTNH and Publius - stop the lying already as you all are in for a rude awakening. I truly doubt you belong in the top 2% heirarchy.
Etch a Sketch Romney - so well put - yep, shake that etch a sketch. Another Reagan in the making..... Reagonomics - Reagan who raise the taxes 11 times. Only this time it will only be on the 92%. The top 2% will be excluded.
Ryan is an excellent choice. Imagine having people who actually understand private sector business and economics in the White House as opposed to the current Panderer-in-Chief who can't run on his record and must resort to mud slinging and giveways by excutive order to specific recipient groups.
you got that right..... all these dems comments are real funny. If theyd get jobs an work an take care of themselfs they might not sleep as much an dream up all this hogwash
OBXRon: You do understand that the "tax cut" is on those in the upper income categories?
Do you understand that those are the one's paying the lion's share of Federal Income tax? You can't get a "tax cut" if you don't pay taxes.
You're right elaine it's Congress that makes those decisions, which in 2006 became a democratic Congress. So its the dems who done this.
mh72 is it "did this" not "done this" but that is okay seeing you are a Republican. With this wonderful gift Willard has given us research, higher education investment and revamping our public K-12 system will be on the horizon as the middle class will not vote for the GOP ticket not to mention the elderly vote specifically in Florida. No more "Child Left Behind" that has been dumbing down our public education system since Dubya and his minions have done so they would not have to wear the dunce cap.
Willard has just guaranteed that we will win another four years to continue to straighten out the mess left by the last group of GOP under achievers and put cry baby Boehner out of a job hopefully for good. Boehner can go back to cleaning up his family's bar and it will be "Cheers" again for him. Thank you once again Willard for this wonderful gift you have given the Democrats not to mention Hillary in 2016! The election will be so lopsided in 2012 that Boehner will start crying so hard his mommy will have to come to DC to bring her little boy home! Obama/Biden 2012. Let's get this country off the war teet and back to rebuilding the middle class as the power base of this country!
None of that will occur. No slashing of the budget. Republicans have never done anything like that since Eisenhower. Ryan's budget is based on sure conjecture. He provided the government account office a list of hypotheticals to score his budget. Those hypotheticals are not based on a set plan. Just what if we had so much in certain programs and so much in those programs how will that work out. Now, Ryan wants to slash the Medicare and raise the military budget to new highs. To be sure the Obama administration wants to shift certain medicare funds to the affordable care act. But, the Republicans have always been against Medicare. And by turning it into a voucher program, it will cost senior citizens more for healthcare. At the same time that Republicans want to eliminate the program for children to stay on their parent's insurance until they are, what, 27? Also they want to eliminate informing the health companies that they cannot drop people for having preconditions, just as pregnancy for women. Or, for insurance companies to send us checks in the mail when they spend more on themselves than on actual healthcare. Now, if you want to eliminate Medicare, affordable healthcare, increase taxes on the middle class, and really do nothing to less the size of government - go Republican.
Mitty can't even announce his running mate correctly. Pitiful.
Obama/Biden 2012
Pitiful is the performance of Obama's policies
About as pitiful as nominating a guy who's policies and votes were the REASON for the recession to begin with. Good job connecting Romney to the failed policies of Bush and the republicans during the 2000's...
NObama...NObamacare...or Biden...ever again!
ROMNEY-RYAN 2012-2020!
ROMNEY-RYAN 2012-2020!
Fantastic! Let's go back to the Neanderthal of George Bush, without health insurance, pollution running rampant, Wall street running without any control. etc.
OF course, let's don't forget: WAR.
Oh shut up! Obama did the same exact thing when he introduced Biden.. you liberals are like bugs you get caught up on all the little shiny things.. stay focused and learn your facts... Obama has done nothing to improve our country just ask the 8.3% ++ who are not working or go look at the price of gas up 100% from 1.80 when he took ofice.. and I suppose you believe its Bush's fault for the 5 trillion added debt too.. They do say if you stand for nothing you fall for anything.. even the little shinny things...
stay focused and learn your facts
Look at the mirror when you say that, and don't go around repeating what you hear in FOX.
They do say if you stand for nothing you fall for anything.. even the little shinny things...
The "little things"as you point, are not "little" to me. The whole Medicare and Social Security, along with health care, are at stake here.
We the Corporations: I accept your challenge.
In 2008 when the economy fell off the cliff in the months after the presidential election, Mitt Romney thought something had to be done ASAP. Even though we had a lame duck president, George W. Bush, and a lame duck Congress, Mitt Romney thought our economic situation was so dire that we needed action from Washington.
On December 19th, 2008, in an op-ed for The National Review, he wrote, "What is Washington waiting for? The inauguration is less than five weeks away: At the rate we've been going, another 500,000 jobs will be lost by then... Congress and the president must act now."
Romney closed his piece with this dramatic order for Congress, especially Republicans in Congress. "The Democrats may want to wait for Obama, but the country needs action now. Republicans can — and must — play an important role in shaping a stimulus bill that makes sense for America and lays a foundation for future prosperity and growth."
He's singing a different tune now. According to Romney now, "a stimulus approach has not worked. The idea of item by item, looking for a quick solution and throwing gasoline on the fire — that hasn't worked. The first stimulus of almost $800 billion didn't create private sector jobs....The president needs to put aside all these stimulus plans, and instead work to restructure the foundation of America's economy."
To O'Donnell, the "restructure the foundation of America's economy" is a "purely Communist
jenn you are a fool. You dont no what the he!! you are talking about...what are you 12?
The 5 trillion was about the price of the war Bush never wanted to add to the budget. He figured if he didnt write it down it never happened...now how brilliant is that?
We are just starting to climb out of the pit Bush threw us in. Obama didnt create this mess...he didnt outsource all the jobs or slash taxes on the rich at the same time as running 2 wars. It astounds me how people cant do basic addition. You go right on believing dear..in the mean time I got a bridge over here for sale.
He will make our country look like a bunch of idiots for even electing him which I surely hope never happens but hey, remember George W. Maybe we are idiots after all
LARRY!
The recession began in December 2007...oh nevermind, you don't care about or understand reality, go vote for whatever teabagger you want the rest of us will do the right thing and take of you anyway.
Elaine,
So you are defending someone who promised to end the wars and bring all the troops home? News Flash... We are still there, still spending and still losing American lives in the name of "fighting terror". In reality we are only creating more terrorists through the murdering of innocent civilians by illegal drone strikes. You can't blame that on Bush any more. How about Gitmo? Can't blame that on Bush. How about the Patriot Act? Can't blame that on Bush anymore. How about all the stimulus? If you think that was a success, I would like to take you to the desert to sell you some really nice sand I found. Not sure if you realize this but the economy is not getting an better....at all.
Bush was a FAIL and Obama was a FAIL. This country is on autopilot and the fuel is running out. Romney will be nothing more than another FAIL for this country. STOP getting info from the MSM and research your votes.... may not matter anyways. It's gonna get a lot worse.
obama did the same thing when he introduced biden, u liberals are all the same, regergitate what your pecious liberal media says and repeat the cute little slogans of your fake mussia bad presidents
Larry:
The question is: Did they? And the answer is "No".
The Republican House offered no bipartisan solutions and never attempted to negotiate, knowing that the bills they would send up would fail in the Senate and WH.
The Republicans keep talking about jobs, but I remember full well that when the Bush Tax Cuts were going to expire, it was the Republican House that stalled passage of an unemployment benefits package to ensure that the tax cuts would go forward.
Romney was honestly interesting for awhile, mostly because of what he did with the Olympics and health care; however, aligning himself with one of the most divisive figures in Congress makes him look very willing to split this country further.
I VOTE NO to any official who votes to pull this country further apart. We are not red or blue. We are Americans.
At We The Corporations
You're right it did start in 2007 one year after we elected a democratic congress. Before everyone starts blaming GW they need to sit back and think about what they are saying. These idiots that want to blame the other guy it's their only defense, because they have done nothing to turn this around. After every democratic president's been elected the wages have gone down for the middle class. After they left office I received a raise.
Ok, then name the legislation that passed between February 2007 and December 2007 that caused a WORLDWIDE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE...
I don't just blame Bush, I blame the previous 12 YEARS of republican control and republican legislation for the WORLDWIDE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE they caused through banking deregulation.
Romney blowing yet another opportunity. Political orientation of his pick aside, does a great job of talking the talk, when too many folks watching his great opportunity, builds it up to the climax, then drops a big, fat turd. "Introducing the next President of the United States, .......Paul Ryan......
I think is more revealing than an accident. To get any sort of traction, Romney needs to sell his soul to the conservatives. Another Bush, a puppet of the hard right?????
We the corporations.
Let me give you a hint. Accountants advise the corporations and businesses to cut back when Democrats take over because of the increases in costs their polices mean in taxes and regulations. If they don't hold back on spending, they may not survive Democrat regulations and taxes.
Yes, Obama will let small business have a low interest loan, IF they manage to pass the NOW 1100 pages of regulation on just what government will let banks accept for them to get a loan. FEW businesses now qualify, when most before the regulation.
BTW, Why is Obama regulating business loans when it was home mortgages when that was the problem for the collapse in 2008?
It is Democrat policies that determines who gets loans, not the Banks!
This Democrat installation is the most intrusive government in history - BE GONE Government elitists - Be GONE in November!
How ironic -- he made the announcement on the USS Wisconsin, a battleship. Battleships were made obsolete, in terms of war-fighting, with the advent of Air Craft Carriers and guided missile cruisers. This selection does absolutely nothing for Romney in terms of gaining the all-valuable center-right and center-left voters. It merely shures up his far-right base -- which would never consider voting for Obama anyhow. Obama must be celebrating now.
DC Mixmeister,
You say Romney cant even announce his running mate correctly? Yeah, he must have watched Obama announce his running mate in 2008......... Just in case you missed that, Obama introduced him as the next president vice president of the United States, Joe Biden.
There is an old non-biblical proverb that states "A fool and his money are soon parted". As one examines what is truly occurring in the Obama administration you are forced to conclude the democrats must believe their constituents are mental midget morons incapable of reading or doing their own research. The problem with Obama style socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!
Nobody likes "austerity", especially the proponents of a welfare state. But we had better start cutting, take a hit ... maybe another shorter-lived recession, take our medicine now and recover. Our Congress has failed the People. Debt is the cancer tumor. The cancer must be removed, then you can work to bring the body back to health!
We can start removing the cancer in November! It is difficult to make any kind of forecasts with any great degree of confidence. Unfortunately, our financial industry has metastasized into a pathological cancer that mostly transferred and decimated wealth and value, rather than creating it. Our
union dominated educational system has failed miserably over the past three decades. This failure reflected and exacerbated the deteriorating ethics and morals of our society. It is reflective in the Obama administration where we bear witness to the core doctrine which endorses, supports and encourages a failed welfare state mentality within our borders.
A former U.S. governor admitted that he and his administration explicitly lied to
his constituents. During his tenure in office, he proclaimed more than 80 percent of the state's children performed at or above grade level. He later stated: in reality, the correct figure was less than 30 percent!
Obama will do nothing to redress this issue. This is precisely why the excess
labor supply has not been adequately reabsorbed into the employment pool. In a true democracy where free enterprise system advanced and hired teachers based on performance rather that corrupt union tenure, this would never happen. These individuals simply lack the requisite skills to compete in the global environment: skills that include creative, critical, and strategic thinking as well as persistence. Ultimately, this very group becomes willing dupes of what has now become the socialist democratic party. Albert Shanker, the liberal Democrat and late head of the New York United Federation of Teachers union, once said, “When schoolchildren start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of shoolchildren.”
May God help America see what is really going on in the Obama administration and Democratic party! Sadly, these are the thoughts of one who, as a child, once considered himself a JohnF. Kennedy democrat. Unfortunately, times have changed and so has the
democratic party. STOP OBAMA NOW
I want to know what Mitt and the guys are going to do with the masses of old sick poor people ? Barely hanging on now they plan to pull the rug out. Then what?
What's with the music they were playing when he came out? I expected him to come running down the steps with his arms out in tights and a cape with a big R on his chest.
This is truly the Koch brothers dream team; these two are perfectly suited for tearing down over 100 years of social progress in America. Romney, Ryan and their owners the Koch brothers don’t give a damn about average Americans they only care about power over average Americans.
Well first thing I did was watch a youtube of an interview with a newscaster who actually lets his guests speak. Something not known in American media. Ryan impressed me more than any of you do. As an independent I haven't been counted by any of your polls yet. I also judge the candidate by his supporters and believe me on that level Obama is in trouble based on the people who support him.
Since some people can't seem to understand when the recession started, 2007 while Bush was screwing the country, these two are planning on taking everything the middle class has worked for and helping their friends to more tax breaks, continue to take our taxes and give us nothing. Too bad some fools are so gullible but hey there'll be 2 good old white boys in the oval office and that is more important than being fair to the middle class.
What a bunch of f'ing idiots.
This goes to show how insane our political system and society is right now.
Before the mid 1970's If any politician had said that he was going to create jobs or make the economy better by cutting federal spending and slashing SS, Medicare and UI, the members of BOTH political parties would have said he belonged in the looney bin.
And in most places around the country any crowd of americans he spoke in front of would have laughed him off of the podium.
We didn't get out of the Great Depression by cutting federal spending or slashing programs like SS or unemployment Insurance, we CREATED those programs during the Depression and they helped to bring us out.
Even New Deal spending wasn't enough to wip the Great Depression. It was only after we entered WWII and SPENT EVEN MORE (and the government completely took over the economy) that it ended.
http://www.fasttrackteaching.com/ftap/Unemployment_300g15.gif
(And by the way, that brief jog upward in the unemployment around 1936-37 shown by the graph was when the FDR administration briefly STOPPED spending and started trying to lower the deficit. They quickly realized their mistake (politicians used to do that) and started spending again and unemployment went down again)
As a result we had the biggest debt to GDP ratio in our history in 1946 and right after that two solid decades of economic boom also referred to by economists as the Golden Age of Capitalism.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post–World_War_II_economic_expansion
After WII ended even business people were panicky and thought we might slip back into depression again without war time spending which is one of the reasons we had the Cold War for the next 3-4 decades.
And Obama and the Democrats are really right up there along side the Republicans as deficit hawks. Obama has been cutting federal jobs and he signed an agreement with the Republicans to slash trillions from Federal Spending.
That's why Main Street is still in a Recession while Wall Street, which received and continues to receive massive federal help is soaring (until they swindle themselves and us off of a cliff again, of course, because of DE regulation).
It wasn't until the Nutty Professor (Milton Friedman) came along and started babbling about the "Free-Market" that we had this descent into madness and our present sad state.
It only takes 15-20 minutes of looking on the internet if you want to find out whats really going on (and what has gone on in the past).
Stop reading about J-Lo, the newest iPad or jerking off to internet porn for a few minutes and wise up.
Paul Ryan...one of the 14 repubs who met the night Obama took office, to pledge against the economy, pledged to vote against every bill that would help Obama look good. Pledged to make Obama a one term president by pledging to vote against anything that would help the economy. Said they had to act like the Taliban, the insurgents . VOTING AGAINST AMERICA.......PAUL RYAN!
Paul Ryan, takes the oath of his office then takes the oath to King Norquist, like a traitor to his country, pledging to Norquist above the people who voted him into office, pledging to Norquist while throwing the Constitution in the dirt. 95% of repub politicians took that pledge and some are trying to back track now that elections are coming. People will make repubs pay because they pledged to King Norquist over their interests and the interests of the constitution.

Starsailing, you are entitled to a misguided opinion, but please include some facts when you express that opinion.
When 0bama took office he had the first Super Majority since Jimmy Carter had one. The year was 1977 and the President was none other than Jimmy Carter. The Democrats held both houses and enjoyed a filibuster proof super majority in the US Senate. Many are not aware that the current housing crisis is directly tied to this era. Why you might ask? Well that would be the time when the Democrats pushed through the Community Reinvestment Act. This act is what started the housing crisis. It just took 30 years to come to fruition.
We all know the Carter Presidency was a dark time for America, just like the 0bama Presidency is. What they have in common is a Democratic Super Majority. The USA is not and I pray will never be a Socialist Paradise. If 0bama gets a second term we are doomed.
Back to your point. After the 2006 elections Paul Ryan and the Republicans were basically shooting blanks when they tried shooting down Democrat plans. Why? Because the Dems had a Super Majority. The Republicans could talk, threaten and try to sound like they were fighting tooth and nail, but it was all hollow.
The media was all over the Republicans, calling them obstructionalists just like the Democrats were. The problem with this was it was all a lie. The Republicans had no power, they were outnumbered. Everything Bush tried to do was shot down. During this time period Ted Kennedy wrote No Child Left Behind, which was blamed on Bush since. But what choice was there? A Super Majority over rules a veto.
Once 0bama came into office many of his plans were shot down, blaming the Republicans, the Democrats and their lackeys (the media) excoriated the Republicans for blocking 0bama's plans. The problem? The Democrat Super Majority. 0bama's plans were so far out that his own party couldn't stomach them, yet the Republicans were blamed.
And by the way, even with a Super Majority, the Dems couldn't find the numbers to pass a budget. Why? Because not all Dems in office hate America like 0bama does.
America needs a change. We are standing at the edge of a cliff. We can not bail out the world, we need to fix America. We need to put an end to the shift toward Socialism that has been going on since 0bama took office. 0bama says his plan is working and I agree. Millions more depending on the Government for basics, the most on welfare in history.
It can not be blamed on the Republicans, there has been 3 1/2 years of 0bama and the dems with no end to the power grabs in sight. 0bama is issuinmg Executive Orders right and left. Why? Because even the Dems in Government know if they passed his agenda it would be suicide.
I can't wait to read how conservatives react to the facts they don't know about this nutcase from Our state of Wisconsin? I'm glad he has come out in favor of gay and lesbian rights, but how will the truth effect the conservatives teabuggers?
What makes anyone think Romney picked Ryan... Ryan was picked by the Fascist tea party the Koch brothers and other Million dollar doners .. Romney had no choice ... Romney is what Grover Norquest said he wanted ... an empty suit with five fingers able to sign any legislation presented to him ..
Ryan is a rubber stamp of "W's" reckless economic policies, I would say this loser is the Worse Choice for VP !!!!!!!!!!
I agree w/We the Corporations about Bush and 2007. Bush didn't cause the problems himself, he was just a puppet. His administration and and the conservatives overall did.
Just like Romny is setting himself up for, if he were elected. But he won't be elected, because like it or not, even the conservatives who hate him acknowledge that he stands for something... they just don't like what they think he represents. The American public and the Democrats learned something from the Bush years... substance matters, empty rhethoric is not the only way.
Ryan is a wonderful choice for those of us who are tired of the Great Recession brought to America by the puppet and puppet master, Bush II and King Cheney. Once again we get another four years with a president who will not have to worry about an election campaign ahead of him.
With Willard and Ryan on the ticket we win hands down. No one will vote for a Mormon except Mormons and GOP party liners, maybe, and for Ryan definitely not the elderly and very few GOPugnants. Obama/Biden 2012!
well at least now we know that Ryan will be President, Romney will be the public figurehead, exactly like Bush and Cheaney.
win win either way better than current.
Are you @!$%#ing kidding, me two people who want to rip apart the social saftey net that has made this one of the greatest country's in the world. We already have a terrible homless situation in this country tearing down that saftey net will seriously increase that problem.
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
You betcha, fer sure. Funny thing is, Obama did exactly the same thing when introducing Biden 4 years ago.
And the seniors are very aware that Obama and his merry band of thieves stole $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
lol fraudian slip??
with these 2 we will have the working class beating on the walls of the palace begging for food while these 2 and their buds sit in their ivory towers.
You all will see the reality of this when your parents move in with you and you have to care for them because their SS and medicare is gone. You may think its a good idea now but just wait. Ryan/ Romney have not an ioda of concern for you are your families well being...they dont care about rebuilding america..they care about power and how they can bleed the last farthing out of the country!
It will be very interesting to see the seniors reaction when they find out that the Ryan Budget reduces Medicare by $800 Billion, in addition to the $700 Billion that is used to help fund Obamacare.
Of course, if those seniors are part of the wealthiest 1% then they can look forward to their share of the $4.3 Trillion tax cuts.
Hooray! More of the same failed Bush policies and trickle-down-economics that we have all grown to love, only this time with much more cutting to social programs.
"In your guts, you know he's nuts."
so your familiar with exactly what inner workings the bush and chenney administration had? you were there? or is every president you dont like just a figurehead?
Vinnie,
I hate to break it to you, but Bush is not running for office.....nor is Palin.
Social Security will be bankrupt by the time I retire I won't get to receive any of it that I've paid in my whole life. I'm paying SS for other people right now. It sounds to me that Elaine needs to go out and get a job instead of begging for food like the rest of the dems already do.
For as much as liberals think they remember about Bush, their memory is certainly questionable with Obama. Obama introduced Biden as president when he was announced as his running mate, Romney was obviously making a joke of it. But I love the talk of seniors, safety net, and Medicare. Ryan offered a plan to save Medicare, it did not pass. Obama gutted Medicare when he cut 500 billion from our seniors safety net to pay for a new massive entitlement. A fact Obama will be running from the entire fall campaign. Liberals are such clowns.
well more bitterness , shame on you mr romney,, you no longer will get my vote unless you get a bill before congress that simply states anyone in public office running for a different position than that of which they were previously elected shall resign from the previous elected office before accepting the nomination of a new office
effective before mutton head was selected for romneys butt wiper,, that would remove him from congress which is what should have happened
Ummmm Rick, Congress voted to reduce $500 billion in projected Medicare spending over the next 10 years, not in one substantial chunk. The reductions are aimed at eliminating parts of the Medicare program seen as ineffective or wasteful, the doughnut hole in the Medicare part D drug program (which wasn't funded under the Bush Administration), and phases out payments to the Medicare Advantage program, an optional program set up under the Bush Administration, where seniors could opt to enroll in a private insurance program and the federal government would subsidize a portion of their premium. There is NO 'gutting' of Medicare. You should read more into it, rather than absorb/regurgitate talking points from Michelle Bachmann and Co.
Fantomdog
The ACA eliminated bridge insurance for seniors that would suppliment medicare. This was a very popular program. When they wrote the law the didn't seem to understand that this would end in October 2012 - 1 month before the November election. To avoid angering seniors, they Obama pulled $30 Billion from the $40 Billion they had budgeted to pay for free contraception and put it into a "6 month trial Program to replace what the ACA eliminated. Here, although they had budgeted the money, they weren't going to spend it!
Even though the Democrats took 75% of the funding, they still are blaming republicans for being at a war on women for wanting to take the remaining money they were not going to use anyhow. It makes great politics, because they pass money for a voting block, syphon off the better part of if to pacify another major block, and blame republicans.
Then, once the Republicans figured out the other $10 Billion wasn't going to be spent on contraception afterall, they wanted to take that money to pay for the student loan interest rate reduction. BTW the student loan rate was deliberately written to expire at a convenient time so the democrats could propose a bill to help the students.
About the $500 Billion in cuts. Most of those cuts were to payments made to doctor who are already accepting a payment set by the government that is less than the cost to treat the patient. Since these cuts were put in place about 2005, congress has been passing legislation to restore a portion of these cuts out of the General Federal budget instead of from Medicare.
Clearly, you are buying what democrat politicians and the 79% Democrats news media is feeding you on a daily basis.
Elaine,
reading your post makes me wonder if you were talking about Obama and Biden, because that's exactly what will happen to Social Security and Medicare if they get re-elected.
We Boomers know we're going to take a ding to our unsustainable Medicaid and Social Security. There's just no way either candidate is going to magically make this fair to us, who have supported the pyramid scheme of our parent's retirement. Many of us, myself included, accept this as just the way the dice have rolled.
What I'm unwilling to accept, is that this cut in entitlements be used to pay down the deficit on giveaways like TARP, or that the wealthiest, who benefited from TARP and tax-cuts don't also have to accept accept some compromise. There is no give-and-take for the wealthy in the Republican ticket this time. The selection of Ryan is a clear indication that this ticket has given-in to fiscal extremism.
sorry wally ... the money taken was not money from SS it was money provided by the Gov to insurance industry to help them keep costs low .. it was all profit for the Insurance industry not one cent of that money ever went toward lower premiums ...each individual covered by the insurance industry got the Insurance induswtry 600 Bucks a month whether the individual used insurance benefits or not .. the big republican lie is that that money was taken from SS when in reality it was a subsidy paid for from treasury your tax dollars

FACE IT Sister and Bother American, Rommel IS ON THE SIDE OF THE FAT INSURANCE COMPANIES And WILL MAKE SURE We Americans Are Denied A Wonderful HealthCare System like in Germany or Israel, WHICH WE AMERICAN TAXPAYERS PAY FOR TOTALLY FREE FOR ISRAELIS. YEAH, A LOT of US are mad

Here's the rundown on Mitt Romney's devastating record as
CEO of Bain Capital, a tenure marked by bankruptcies, bailouts, and mass layoffs
— all while Romney and his partners raked in Billions of Dollars in profits for
the firm and Romney himself amassed a Quarter-Billion Dollar
Fortune.
Romney's Bain Capital Caused Mass Layoffs, Sent Jobs
Overseas
Thousands of Americans were laid off by Bain Capital at companies it
purchased, managed, and, at least a quarter of the time, drove into bankruptcy,
ruining Lives, Destroying Careers and Families including Many Many Suicides
While stuffing his pockets, Keeping his Darling son OUT of service to his
country with the line "My son is Fulfilling his Patriotic Duty by helping me get
elected"...Got that one?? and, Of Course, installing the InHouse car elevator
for his "darling little boy's $180,000Ferrari....Listen Up People...This guy IS
Count Dracula In carnate. A vote for ANY Republican politico is a vote against
Yours and YOUR FAMILY'S Well Being. You can take that to the bank.

You say only the wealthy benefitted from TARP....I disagree. Millions of union members, myself included, benefitted from TARP.
You seem to believe that the Republicans are the only ones who do things that benefit Business. That is a fallacy foisted on us by the dems and their lap dogs in the media.
Fiscal extremism? Are you serious? 0bama slams businesses as being anti worker, anti American, ad nausium. Yet 0bama received millions from Wall Street and Corporate America when he was running for President....the very people he demonizes constantly, while holding out his hand for more money from them.
Fiscal extremism is what has been going on since the dems retook the House and Senate in 2006. A 5 trillion dollar budget deficite within 3.5 years is fiscal extremism. We have gained nothing from it. The unemployment/underemployment rate is 15%+, youth unemployment is out of sight, minority unemployment is higher than it has been since Carter was President. I prefer to call the Romney/Ryan ticket a return to sanity, because our Nation is currently being run down the drain by 0bama and company.
By the way, I plan on doing my part to hold them accountable. I will not stand by and watch America destroyed by idiology, democrat or republican....
Ryan will show to be a ill choice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am witnessing a proud moment right now in our history. I am filled with hope, a way out of the darkness we all feel right now. I am hearing two great men speak the words of wisdom,
It is such a contrast to the division, hate, and suspicion, that Obama has cast upon on us all.
God's speed Mitt and Paul,
We are with you, lead us on into the light we all once new.
Remember this moment, it will go down in history.
Publius
I could not AGREE more!
A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury, from that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates that PROMISE the most benefits from the public treasury. That means welfare from the government - oh yeah NOT the government - EVERY TAXPAYER in AMERICA pays for those that feel they DESERVE FREE HANDOUTS!
NOT THE 1% LESS GOVERNMENT - NOT MORE!
I was heartened by Romney's choice as well, Paul Ryan was one of the best possible picks. This is now as strong a ticket as they could have chosen, and will do well by our nation once elected.
I am witnessing a proud moment right now in our history. I am filled with hope, a way out of the darkness we all feel right now. I am hearing two great men speak the words of wisdom,
Too early to be hitting the jug with moonshine. Romney Ryan is a match made of nightmares.
He looks like an a$$hole. A Pu$$ and an A$$. Yup, GOP - you got a winning team. You betcha!
Paul Ryan...one of the 14 repubs who met the night Obama took office at a restaurant, to pledge against the economy, pledged to vote against every bill that would help Obama look good. Ryan, Cantor, Newster, and Jim DeMint pledged to make Obama a one term president by pledging to vote against anything that would help the economy. Said they had to act like the Taliban, act like the insurgents . VOTING AGAINST AMERICA.......PAUL RYAN! Ref: Draper new book.
Tom Hartman mentioned on his radio program that Ryan had campaign contribution (2) from Swiss bank account. looks like Paul Romney to me!
All catholics will be voting against him because the catholic church denounced the Paul Ryan plan right to his face.
Romney Ryan for a worse tomorrow today!
Publius...........that light you last remember was not the light at the end of the tunnel, it was the train coming at you in the tunnel! That train is the TEABAGGER EXPRESS!
Obama/Biden 2012
Oh we will remember thats for sure..about how Mitt blew it again!
Actually, it means promises of tax cuts. It has been the Republican standard strategy for thirty years, namely to buy votes from people selfish and stupid enough to believe that the rich are 'job creators' and deserve to pay less than the rest of us. And more than any other policy over that time, it is the overwhelming reason why we have the deficits we now must endure.
It's pure pandering, and Romney is the Prince of Pandering.
@Suds: Typical "let's vote for an "American Idol" mentality! If looks constituted what makes a good POTUS, then we've become even more of a shallow-thinking society than I thought! Vote for CHARACTER, not APPEARANCE/COOLNESS! My God, help us!
Yo Pub - you need to bang your head against the wall and hopefully snap out of that ReTHUG brainwashing stupor.
Here's another reminder of what Mittens said: “I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it.”
Yep, Paul Ryan will fix it alright! We'll just get rid of of that safety net. So as Alan Grayson had once described the GOP health plan so well: "IF YOU GET SICK - DIE QUICKLY."
Yeah, go ahead and vote for these 2 robber barons and vote against your own well being.
Publius,
I do not feel the "darkness we ALL feel"... Quite the contrary. Despite the Right's attempts to destroy our Country, for their own political and financial gain, Obama has been able to start to get us out of the mess the Romney/Ryan philosophies have got us in to. Once voters are educated to the drastic differences between the visions and solutions of the 2 parties, there is no doubt that Americans will choose the policies that don't steal from the poor and middle class, only to give the tax cuts to those who need them the least.
Obama/Biden 2012
Brad
The point of the constitution was to protect people from an overbearing government that makes all the decisions for you based on priorites that are nothing like yours or mine.
If you don't understand that this is what the Government is becoming under the Democratic party, I feel sorry for you!
SUDS in Denver,
You are supposed to post your comments, BEFORE you hit the SUDS in Denver.
DB Akron,
Are you suggesting that your beliefs are shared by everyone else in our Country? Please tell me you're not that self centered. We are all entitled to our beliefs, and need to respect those of others. And, as long as you are bringing up the Constitution, what ever happened to majority rules? No where does it say in the Constitution that a minority party can band together and vote no on EVERYTHING, thus requiring a super majority of 60 votes on everything. And, that's not just to pass a bill, but rather to discuss it on the Senate floor. It is because of the Senate Republicans that our recovery isn't more robust. To deny that is ignorant.
starsailing
The thing I love about you is your name calling. Calling Conservatives "tea baggers". So misguided. For every "tea bagger", there is a "tea bagee". How do they feel on your chin???
Well Mitt finally told the truth, he is just who the Republican party picked to be their choice on the ticket, not who they wanted to be president. Ryan will be the defacto President kind of like Cheney was and will lead this country down the extremist path that will destroy us. Paul Ryan the "next President" indeed.
Name the lies. High employment and crushing debt is not plant for success that is what destroy us.
Seriously, Publius? Once the Republican Party has realized the culimination of their ultimate wet dream, do you think YOU will be any better off? Unless of course you are already one of the 1%. Tell me if the Republicans are so great and so able to make things happen, tell me why the energy sector (who is one the largest Republican voting blocs) goes down the crapper as soon as a Repub gets elected president.
seriously lemur lady?...do you really have to begin with a "skewed nasty comment"..
Pride in accomplishment tastes much better than resentment provided for free by the gov't...
Broke, what gives you the right to tread on others free speech? Just because you don't like ones opinion hardly make you right. In fact it is childish to attempt to belittle others like a hypocrite. lemur lady was just giving an opinion. I could spend all day repeating your statement to others for whom I disagree. But why?...hmmm
When Boehner met to discuss a compromise in budget talks Ryan shut him down letting him know no compromise that included any tax hikes or elimination of loopholes on corporations, the wealthy or cuts to military spending would be accepted. Only cuts to social programs were acceptable to the tea party. After Ryans talk Boehner about faced looking like a whipped pup.
Give ME a break Publius
You must be blind or smokin something to think that Romney/Ryan are gonna save anyone.
Bush created this mess..with the help of Ryan so lets fact check ourselves before you start demanding answers from others.
@elaine: LOL! Still "blaming Bush?! How unique!Guess you've been in a coma for the last four years. AT LEAST be original! hahahaha!
truthman - IT IS A FACT - DUH-bya started this downward spiral after he squandered the SURPLUS Clinton left him with!! So yeah, the blame is still on! You can not fix a gargantuan problem in 4 yeas when you have the Party of NO AKA GREEDY OBTRUCTIONIST PARTY blocking/filibustering/stalling any attempts Obama and the Dems proposed to solve our economic problems - because the ReTHUGS number one goal is not jobs or this country but to make Obama fail! Yep tank the country just to let one man lose a job! The GOPers are A SELFISH clan.
Truth.......Romney hired 17 of his 24 economic and foreign policy advisors from the Bush Cheney regime.....Yeah...Romney is going Bush Cheney plan on steroids!
Romney, Ryan, and Bush walk into a bar and the bartender says..."What is this , a joke!"
juno6....the last thing truth cares about is the ....truth and facts!
truthman/juno - at last count, 85 filibusters for the congress recently adjourned. A significant new record of obstructionism.
Jun06
Bush Squandered nothing. This is nothing but Democrat folklore!
The last budget signed by Clinton was Fiscal 2001 (October 1, 2000 - September 30, 2001. That budget called for only a 30 Billion increase in spending, but experienced a reduction of Revenue of 65 Billion when we were averaging an annual increase in revenue of 89 Billion per year. The reason for the drop in Revenue over projections was the economy began falling into recession in June of 2000.
Unemployment began rising in January 2001 before Bush was sworn in! Bush changed nothing on Fiscal 2001. Most of his polices didn't even begin passing congress until October 2001 and many including the tax cuts did not begin until January 2002!
Sorry to make you look so bad, but how else do you tell someone that their comments have no relation to reality.
DB - Yawn. Don't you ever get tired of the voices in your head?
Interesting choice..but I am confused. Romney says in no way would he have approved the GM loan/bailout . Ryan voted for it. Romney says tax breaks for the rich, Ryan says he wants to close loopholes and quit subsidizing the rich. Romney disses TARP, Ryan voted for it.. Maybe the only point of mutual agreement that Romney mentioned is the "Ryan Plan" for making Medicare and Social Security almost impossible for seniors to get and dumping programs that help the poor. Even the Catholic Church has taken Ryan to task over that one.
When Romney Flip Flops, Ryan thinks Willard is a Catfish, Can you just see Paul "NOODLING" Mitt at the Convention !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG! Did anyone see that gaffe that Mitt Romney just made. He introduced Paul Ryan as the next President of the United States....LOL...Willard is off to a bad start
Oh, my God????? Get with it and stop with the "gaffe" crap on both sides. It goes both ways. It is time to stop with the childish, sophomoric, ridiculous criticism of what misstep either party makes.
OUR COUNTRY IS IN FINANCIAL RUIN!!!! That's what is important.
The biggest gaffe would be voting in failure for four more years.
judy-3595885,
Yes! Both candidates make gaffes, but on one of the most importanat days of his candidacy, you would think that Mitt Romney wouldn't screw this announcement up...Obama didn't
And BTW, we all know this election is about more than silly gaffes, stop acting so sanctimonious (when it's convenient) and just admit that this was the wrong time for Willard to comitt a gaffe
That's the biggest gaffe and lie of all time. This country is not in financial ruin, it is being ruined financially by wealthy people hoarding a disproportionate amount of money and refusing to re-invest it, instead opting to send it to other countries. And you want to elect a person that not only supports that, but lives it?
Paul Ryan votes in congress put us in financial ruin!!!
The biggest gaffe would be voting in failure for four more years
Right! As if we had a WONDERFUL BONANZA during Bush/Cheney era
I think GW just gave a big sigh of relief as everything became Ryan's fault and not his.
You are 1000% correct Tonybeeer. I especially love the part where they are always saying...quit punishing the job creators....They arent creating any jobs! They are hording the money! so why should they get the tax breaks??? here is my formula:
create jobs in our country = get tax breaks
dont create jobs in our country = no tax breaks
Sean B...(#12.3)...
"judy-3595885,
Yes! Both candidates make gaffes, but on one of the most importanat days of his candidacy, you would think that Mitt Romney wouldn't screw this announcement up...Obama didn't"

Not as bad of a start when you were born Sean, maybe they should have named you SANDY, Fag....
Get your head out of your Ass (also get your boyfriends dick out your Ass..)
Poor ol Mottens had a brain fart. I am sure there are more to come
That Eddie Munster look-a-like Paul Ryan dude sure is a Koch-Sucker and so is Mitts....well the republicans have shown their hand and it's the same ol' thing....tax cuts for the job creators that don't create jobs, making sure that everyone in America doesn't have a chance to vote or their votes won't be counted, cutting so called entitlements that aren't really entitlements such as Medicare and SSI that have been taken out of all our paychecks for the last 50 years that we've been working, so it's just not an entitlement (the only true entitlement in this country is in Congress where they get a paycheck, medical, and retirement paid for by taxpayers for doing nothing but spending all the go*damn money and then complaining about not having enough money in their own and the elites pockets and wanting to take it away from all of us now). I would like to reform congressional entitlements at the earliest possible time to save this country from financial collapse and ruin. How bout that republicans?? Where's the JOBS republicans?? What a bunch of worthless tools!! Way to go Romney, Ryan is a worse pick than Palin was and neither of you is fit or qualified to be POTUS/VP.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Reminds me of something-There is an old saying in Tennessee I know its in Texas probably in Tennessee that says, fool me once shame on you. Fool me--you can't get fooled again. Romney/Ryan need to learn this advice from GW
Yep the exact same mistake Obama made introducing Biden.
You can thank "W" for the mess we are in, The GOP TeaWackos destroyed our Country and now they want the Keys back !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent choice! He'll show the world what a buffoon Biden is and give Mitt a big boost towards getting rid of 0bama.
Why is Ryan an excellent choice? What is his political position and exactly how will he put the Country on the right track?
Good job, Frank-486334. Support a pro tax, anti-small business conservative with NO JOB EXPERIENCE.
Look at his Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Ryan.
Besides a YMCA camp, some time as the "the biggest brown noser" and a marketing slot with his family company, Congress is all this guy knows.
Right now, the Conservatives have a misguided perception of how sharp they think Paul Ryan is...just wait until team Obama disect his arguments and exposes all of the flaws in his so-called intellectualism......I suspect after that, team Romney will resort back to character attacks and demonizing Obama.
Sean B has a point. Team Obama is significantly better at constructing attack ads than they have ever been at running a country.
Well, Obama and his thugs started it.
Wally.....complete lie on Medicare rant, savings from Obama care take care of the plan. Ryan and Romney plan...KILL MEDICARE, KILL SOCIAL SECURITY, KILL MEDICAID. Catholic church slams Ryan for cutting programs seniors need.
I'm sorry Sean, but Mitt has asked that going forward no one can ask about his personal taxes, his business experience, his time as governor, his sons never serving the country as anything other than hood ornaments, or his dancing horse. All of those topics are now off limits as attacking his accomplishments. Wait, those are his accomplishments. So what is he running ON?
frank
wrong
thanks for my daily belly laugh
Great, so they want us to have not one but two guys at the wheel who know nothing about foreign policy.
Wonderful.
I'd put Ron Paul in charge of foreign policy.
Anyone paying attention cannot argue with this: Obama is the problem, Romney is the solution.
No the problem is the GOP won't get out of the way. They filibuster almost everything and obstruct as often as possible. The problem is the republican party who created this great economic collapse. If Romney were to get elected he would put us back on the GW Bush path of ignorance. Who wants to go back to the republican platform of voodoo economics?
Your understanding of economics is non-existent.
Sarah you must be kidding? Romney is a nightmare and Ryan is your worst fear.
Hardly an accurate statement. More like the republicans have not wanted to see the economy get better for it might keep Obama, for whom they very much hate, in office four more years. Their plan from the beginning of Obama's presidency as Mitch McConnell put it,"lets make Obama a one term president". So they done what they do best, obstruct. Keep the economy down for selfish purposes. If the republicans would have followed Obama's lead we would be better off today.
I'm wondering if shilling Sarah who posted here is really Palin.
Yeah Trilly that was the plan..LMAO!! Actually if Romney wins it's because the country has grown tired of Obama's lies. Romney winning will be the direct result of this President's failed policies. People are terrified of what the country will become after 4 more years of incompetent trial and error! 2 years from now the only thing that will remind people of Barack Obama's existence is a couple of Secret Service Cars blocking Kenwood Ave in Chicago. ROMNEY/RYAN '12
Hey fender, You won't be laughing come November. By the way, it is not my words to say that obstructionism is a GOP plan. It is their words and more importantly their actions that back up those words. It is not a laughing matter. But I get your antics.
Hardly a laughing matter at all Trilly, but post #14.4 is laughable. The Democrat's controlled Congress for 4 yrs. with Obama in the White House 2 of those years with a "parrot" speaker Nancy Pelosi. There was no indication of an economic turnaround just a bunch blame and reckless spending. The voters spoke their mind mid term with a Republican victory. Speaking of actions Trilly is that why the President is already acting like a lame-duck? The Economy is so frigging bad and all he can go on the record lately is The Boy Scouts of America! I wouldn't be to sure of me not laughing in November, remember that little Re-call they had in Wisconsin? The Democrat's had that one in the bag,Too! The nation is sick of reckless spending and bigger government, your guy is toast. Romney/Ryan '12 JANUARY,20,13 THE END OF AN ERROR!
Hey fender, Obama had a majority in Congress for two years but not a filibuster proof majority which means everything. Helping the unemployed, the sick, the old is not reckless spending. Starting the Iraq war and giving the rich tax breaks is reckless. Obstructing Obama's mandate is reckless. Our government has been mostly locked in a lame duck session because of the radical tea party and their strategy of no compromise.
fender........President Obama 9 points ahead in the polls yesterday......there goes your rant.....record obstruction filibusters and publicly ranting to make President Obama a one term president by taking the economy down is a big reason. Repubs want to take the economy down and give more tax breaks for the rich while making the middle class and poor pay for the Ryan/Romney plan. America has seen enough.
Obama/Biden 2012
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Obama is the problem, there is no solution....
fILIBUSTERS? He pushed the Stimulus Package through, then Obama Care with a, " we have to pass the bill to see what's in it", Pelosi Parrot head at the helm. Didn't see any of that waste of taxpayer dollars being blocked guys. That's what cost the Dem's control of congress, reckless spending! Sailor those poll's wouldn't come from one of your usual unreliable sources would it? Remember, thirty people reportedly shot, and Fox News is full of $hit? ROMNEY/RYAN'12
fender, look at the congressional voting records. The GOP has set a new filibuster record. It is a fact not just an opinion by me. What cost the Dems control of the house was the usual apathy in congressional voting by the Dems during off year elections added with a good propaganda campaign started by the Corporate Koch brothers funding the Tea Party with weeks of Obama taking office. The angry tea party is nothing more than the far right radical wing of the republican party. A disease on governing.
Trilly, So what? Look at Barack Obama's voting record while he was a Senator from Illinois, he hardly voted on anything. If the President was a viable politician instead of a sympathy evoking salesguy he could have gotten around the Republican's. The fact that he voted in concert 90% of the time mean't he didn't make any political allies not only within the Republicans but within his own party as well. What Bill's were filibustered,Trilly? The word is The White House would present a Bill but within it were a few other provisions that would become law that had nothing to do with what was on the table. The Republican's said hey we're the majority, remove this irrelavant stuff out and will pass it and the Dem's said f--k you, you guys are obstructionalists! The Chicago Machine Democrat play was all in place. If Obama managed to get a Bill passed he took credit, if it didn't he blamed the Republican's. Don't believe it,think," we'll have to pass the bill to see what's in it". That was the Dem's way of saying to the Republican's," eat $hit"! That's politics my friend, you see the State Senator's and Representitives in the Republican party get their a$$ voted out of office if they don't vote the way their voters intended! They don't languish away like Ted Kennedy sitting on his a$$ doing nothing. The Chicago Machine Dem's did the same thing to the cities first black Mayor, Harold Washinton. And this is why I don't trust any Chicago Machine Democrats. When elected, 29 Aldermen reared up against him and basically deadlocked city council. It was nothing more than racial, Mayor Washington was a damn good man. But he used his head and got around the council the best he could as a sharp politician. But, that's where Obama falls short, he's not a politician, he's a salesman. Romney/ Ryan '12
fender,
What was filibustered? Jobs bill, Student Loan bill, infrastructure bill, The Dream Act and the list goes on and on. The record filibusters occurs because the GOP has gotten farther to the right thanks to the tea party. The tea party holds it's it own to within strict guidelines and if they stray they attack them in primaries so republicans are coerced into voting their way. Like Murdoch of Indiana says, "don't compromise with dems". So they filibuster to protect their own political rear ends.
Concerning attachments known as amendments to bills that sour it and cause the GOP to filibuster them, well that is business as usual and goes both ways. I cannot ever remember a time when both parties have not done such a thing. It is one way to get votes for a bill and another way to get the bill voted down. But to say it is the reason the GOP has a record number of filibusters is false. Filibusters should go. We don't need them and Congress has made it to easy to use it. More would get done with the simple majority.
As far as the Chicago rhetoric it is just that rhetoric. Your right that Obama is not a great politician but he is a great statesman. A man who would rather govern that indulge in politics. It is to bad the republicans don't care about the people enough to do the same. The problem with government is it does not know when to turn off the political spigot and turn on the governing one.
fenderblue........uses phrases like, "the word is"....as if it has some kind of fact instead of just a voice in some one's head. Same with "the Chicago machine"....some kind of internal brain fart floating around in space.....
Facts.....Repubs in the last 3.5 years pledged to obsruct and did so with record amount of fillibusters, just to make president Obama a one term president. Obstruct the economy making people lose more of their money, their savings, their homes, their families. ..........."the word is....." Ya in your world!
Obama/Biden 2012
Ryan is a corporate loving political hack. Anyone from the middle class who votes for these clowns needs their heads examined. Their GOP trickledown approach is a joke. Trickledown economics is code to the wealthy for I'm not rich enough lower my taxes.
And trickle up is working??? A measly $700 Billion added to the GDP. That will not even cover the stimulus. A debt headed north of $16 trillion which now almost $1 trillion more then out GDP. Obama is running at a 400,000 net job loss right. Why? Jobless claims negate job gains and translate to a net jobs loss. That is why we nave an un-employment rate headed north.
This called failure
Publius, Trickledown is a republican term. Trickleup is a republican term too. The middle class is the backbone of this country. Without it the poor would not get their government benefits and the rich would not be wealthy. Trickledown is dead. Trickledown has been dead since manufacturing jobs started leaving this country in large numbers.
The huge debt goes mostly on the GOP. With millions of job losses directly related to the Bush years means less tax revenue and more on unemployment. Add Bush's trillions in tax cuts and Bush's Iraq war and it become very obvious why we have such a huge debt. A loss of revenue. Clinton left us on a viable path to solving our debt problems and the GOP took us off that path. Obama cannot go back to the Clinton years because of GOP obstructionism.
Publius, the failure of which you speak was engineered by your GOP friends who are so pissed off that a black man is telling them what to do that they can't stand it. The first words out of Limbaugh's mouth were "I hope Obama fails"...the Republicans have been hell bent on seeing that he does just that from day one. Had Obama been allowed to pass anything that would have helped the middle class, but none of the good ideas he had were allowed to see the light of day. Once he's out, either not reelected or after his second term, the Republicans will repackage all his ideas as their own and they will go through.
As self absorbed and self centered and self important as most Republicans seem to be, it floors me that a majority of them continue to vote against their own interests. The very rich do not care who is in office, they will be unaffected, but the middle and lower classes will be drastically affected.
Most of us are wise to letting the poor, sick, elderly, and disabled pay for tax cuts for the wealthy while they see what little they get shrink, is not fair or equitable. I guess as long as rednecks can go ahead and cling to their guns and blighted religious bigotry towards anyone not like them, they are too stupid to realize what they are doing to themselves.
Thank you Trilly for one of the rare intelligent posts of the day !! Anyone who thinks any repub will do anything positive for our country has already drank the cool-aid and beyond help ,Obama 2012 for our country !!
Make no mistake. The Tea Party was formed for one reason only. To discredit and ultimately try and destroy President Barack Obama. The Republicans had no choice but to sign on lest they lose a big chunk of their voter base. Their chickens will come home to roost in November. Paul Ryan represents those that take away instead of producing.
As an independent analysis determined Bush did far more to increase the deficit than Obama. Not limited to 2 unfunded wars which we still have 1 ongoing but 1.8 trillion in stimulus and tax cuts that neither republicans or democrats can repeal without voter backlash.
"What’s also important, but not evident, on this chart is that Obama’s major expenses were temporary — the stimulus is over now — while Bush’s were, effectively, recurring. The Bush tax cuts didn’t just lower revenue for 10 years. It’s clear now that they lowered it indefinitely, which means this chart is understating their true cost. Similarly, the Medicare drug benefit is costing money on perpetuity, not just for two or three years. And Boehner, Ryan and others voted for these laws and, in some cases, helped to craft and pass them.
To relate this specifically to the debt-ceiling debate, we’re not raising the debt ceiling because of the new policies passed in the past two years. We’re raising the debt ceiling because of the accumulated effect of policies passed in recent decades, many of them under Republicans. It’s convenient for whichever side isn’t in power, or wasn’t recently in power, to blame the debt ceiling on the other party. But it isn’t true."
Pubicus,
There is more to the jobs numbers you guys want to use. To answer your question, "Obama is running at a 400,000 net job loss right. Why?" look to the past.
Public sector job growth under G.W. Bush rose 4.2% while he maintained an overall growth rate of 01%. Public sector job loss under B. Obama has been at approximately 2.9% with an overall loss rate of 3.0%. This indicates that the Bush administrations job growth record was solely based on government jobs while at the same time loosing private sector jobs. The same rates of public sector job growth occurred under Presidents Reagan and G.H.W. Bush for 54 months following recessions during their administrations, the same time period shown for the Obama administration. Were the Obama administration to add similar public sector jobs the unemployment rate would be around 7.5%. (Source- BLS)
Well I would rather have someone letting me keep MY MONEY than try to redistribute it to lazy ass nothings who don't contribute to society... I plan on being one of those dreaded 1% sometime in my life and Obama is making it very hard for me... I wonder if when he says "everyone needs to pay their fair share" if he is also referring to those 49% who pay nothing but manage to get a tax refund every year??? Hmmm.. I doubt it... Obama isn't God and never will be he is just a misinformed man who hasn't a clue on what he is doing... Becaseu he isn't "prodcuing" anything but a society of Handouts and Laziness!! Socialism is only good till you run out of other people's money... Which is coming sooner then you think..
Reagan stimulated the economy with the biggest peace time military build up in history while tripling military spending and the deficit. With Star Wars, expanding our navy from 3 carrier task forces to 10 and massive increases for the air force. Republicans talk about being fiscally conservative but usually outspend democratic presidents. Democrats usually cut military spending while republicans expand it.
Jenn,
How many of those 49% who don't pay taxes are working and living below the poverty level? If wages hadn't been on the decline the last three decades maybe more would be paying taxes. Telling the working poor to pay more is definitely not fair. And it was under Clinton more millionaires were created than any president so if the GOP would get out of the way Obama would return the tax structure to those years, the good years.
obama has done nothing for the middle class. he increase benefits for the poor & bailed out the rich. oh wait, he seems to be pulling the wool over middle class eyes.
80/20 healthcare rule got me $70 refunded. but my premiums went up the same month--annual increased cost of $480.
get $70, give $480 Obama math at its best.
...because it's all about you, right? There has been no such redistribution, and the odds are your taxes have actually been reduced in the past 3 years. Pay attention
And there lies the typical, naive fantasy of the Republican base. The 1% is a very exclusive club - they own everything, they run the country, and the rest of us are not included. They keep things like that by duping fools who think they have a shot at joining them. They don't. That means you too.
Apparently part of your effort to cram every right-wing talking point into a single post. First of all, the fact that so many people pay no taxes reflects the increasing U.S. poverty rate. In 2010, the latest year for which numbers are available, the median income was just over $26k. That's not an average - that means half the country earns less than that. In other words, they're dead broke. Second, there is no evidence that they all 'get a tax refund every year'. That's just bull@!$%#.
Thirdly, in 2010, Romney's tax rate was roughly equivalent to that of someone earning less than $35k. Except he actually made more than $21 million.
Stop relying on Republican 'truthiness' and pay attention to the real world.
debt,
You say Obama has done nothing for the middle class. This is simply not true. The Health Care Law has many benefits to the middle class. Like pre-existing conditions, keeping children on the parents insurance roles longer, no maximum limits, preventative care for women and new Health Care exchanges. The whole law has not even taken into affect yet. He has kept taxes low for the middle class and wants to keep it that way while asking the rich to pay a little more which will still keep them rich. He bailed out the auto industry which help keep middle class jobs in the auto industry from going away. I could go on but I think you get the point.
Your rising costs have little to do with Obama and more to do with Corporations run away greed the last 30 years. I don't know where you have been the last 3 decades but Health Care costs have been on a steep rise for a long time.
Under Obama....2009 the IRS went after the biggest tax dodgers...those hiding money in Swiss Bank accounts. That is why the rich want Obama out. They have to start paying taxes off their greed of offshoring jobs!!!!! Romney was one of them!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Trilly,
I find it incredibly ironic that the affordable healthcare act has done very little to make it affordable in the long run, ie, obummer has done nothing to stop premium increases. sure everyone can get insurance, but now everyone pays more by way of increased premiums. If Obummer wanted to make insurance affordable he would have put an increase cap in place.
kids could already stay on parents insurance until age 26.--obummer didn't do it.
preventative care for women was covered--my insurance co. provided preventative for my wife long before obummer.
and frankly, if you need $100,000 per month in health care, you should have to pay extra.
Obummer did not bail out the auto INDUSTRY. he bailed out a company or two that deserved to fail. he bailed them out for kickbacks in the way of fed contract fleet pricing. the Gobmint is the largest fleet account for the auto company that was bailed out.
Wow, where to start? You spin everything. First the ACA has not been fully implemented so no it hasn't reduce costs. Second, It is not Obummer it is Obama so why be childish in conversations? No kids could not stay on parents insurance until 26 before Obama made it possible. Read the bill. Thirdly, preventative care for women was not on all insurance plans but most who could afford it. Fourth, your 100,000 dollar statement is far off base considering Cancer and Heart disease among other life threatening diseases that exist today. Lastly, Yes he did bail out the auto industry. Ford, who borrowed privately during that time would have gone because the suppliers would have gone under too. Toyota has said they would have gone under as well.
Jennmahorse:
There are WORKING people whose income is so low that their taxable income is zero. Income tax is automatically deducted from their paltry earnings and is therefore returned to them as a "tax refund". See example below:
A couple with two children earning less than $26,400 [$12.50 - $ 13.25 per hour] will pay no federal income tax this year because their $11,600 standard deduction and four exemptions of $3,700 each reduce their taxable income to zero. The basic structure of the income tax simply exempts subsistence levels of income from tax.
trilly,
i stayed on my parents health care until I turned 26, that was in 2006.
how is it off base to say those that use more insurance $ should have to pay more in premiums?
if OBUMMER bailed out the entire auto industry, as you say, what were the bailouts for toyota, honda, mercedes, bmw, jaguar, chevy, kia, + the others i forgot? all may not be 100% american owned but they all have plants in america that employ americans. they can't sell autos in America if they aren't built in America. 2-3 companies got bailed out tops.
Jennmahorse -
I'm with you, I thought I was the only one pursuing the American Dream on the Powerball Savings Plan. This Get Rich Soon plan is really exciting, isn't it? I'm planning to make an infomercial...
Now if you would like to come down from la-la land for a moment you need to learn that Obama and the Democrats are not your get-rich-eventually enemies.
Your real enemies are bloodsucking greedy corporations that have created the regulatory environment that favors them and buries their competition. Look at the neighborhood around any big box retail store like Walmart, Lowes or Home Depot for any stores that are able to compete with anything on their shelves for some examples. There aren't any. They're all dead, along with their entire supply chain. Why? Because at some point they successfully lobbied to eliminate dumping penalties, opening us up to a flood of cheap imports.
The people who ran those dead businesses were like you and I, trying to make a living with a small business and finding barriers at every turn that make it impossible.
That's how the 1% are getting fatter at the expense of the middle class. Deficitphobia is just a smokescreen to divert attention from corporate interference in government. Greed and predatory practices of the "Managerial Aristocracy" (Citibank's term) they have spawned through multimillion dollar bonuses are your enemies.
It's well known that the Koch brothers have funded the Tea Party. Now they've bought themselves a Vice President. Good luck becoming part of the 1% without a Powerball ticket.
debt,
My point is not all insurance companies plans offer the ability for parents to keep their kids on insurance until they are 26 but under the ACA it is provided to everyone and that is the difference.
How did Obama save the auto industry? Because many of these auto companies share the same suppliers. Ford had to borrow money from private banks to stay afloat. Toyota was lobbying for Obama to bail out GM and Chrysler because they knew the damage to their own company was great because of the supplier issue. If companies like Ford, Toyota and others could not get the parts for their cars they may have followed right behind GM and Chrysler. Auto workers buy cars too and help keep businesses in their towns afloat. Unemployment would have gotten much higher and car sales would have gone down even further for everyone if GM and Chrysler would have been allowed to default. I remember a day when people would say don't buy foreign buy American now it has come to let American Auto companies die. I say no way.
The latest adaptation of "A Nightmare on Easy Street," a film noir for Republicans written, produced, and directed by the American People:
President Obama is re-elected handily in November. The Democrats also reach a super-majority in the Senate and recapture the House of Representatives.
Now the fun begins.
Hillary Clinton tenders her resignation as Secretary of State in early December, effective at noon on Inauguration Day in January, 2013.
President Obama nominates popular and highly-regarded former U.N. Ambassador and ex-Governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson to succeed Hillary at the State Department.
Eric Holder quietly resigns as Attorney General a few months into 2013, neutralizing the animus of the Right regarding Fast and Furious while at the same time effectively neutering chief inquisitor Darrel Issa himself, an act for which Holder is awarded the Medal of Freedom.
President Obama nominates New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to replace departing Attorney General Holder, effectively opening the door for Hillary Clinton to run for and win the Governorship of her home state, New York. With her election to the New York statehouse, Hillary fills the only remaining gap in her resume, that of Chief Executive of a large mid-Atlantic state, providing her with the day-to-day managerial expertise which so many on the Right claim is essential to any legitimate national candidate possessing presidential aspirations.
As Governor of New York, Hillary leads the way for the wholesale statewide implementation of the Affordable Care Act, establishing a paradigm for other states across the nation while simultaneously fulfilling her lifelong dream, begun as First Lady in 1992, of providing affordable quality health care to a beleaguered populace.
Having comfortably and strategically distanced herself from the day-to-day operations of the ground-breaking Obama Presidency, Hillary positions herself for her own run for the Oval Office in 2016.
Secretary of State Bill Richardson is positioned to accept the nomination of his party as Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate in 2016, thereby blunting the allure of GOP presidential nominee Chris [I'm not an actual bully] Christie's selection of either Marco [I'm not an actual Mormon] Rubio or Ted [I'm not an actual member of La Raza] Cruz as running mate to a growing number of staunchly Roman Catholic Hispanic voters while at the same time energizing the Democratic base in the western states.
Upon their historic victory, powered in no small part by the unanticipated emergence of a coalition of bipartisan women voters who see in Hillary's candidacy their greatest near-term opportunity to shatter once and for all the glass ceiling inside the Oval Office, President Hillary Clinton now leads the way for the nationwide implementation of the Affordable Care Act, laying the groundwork for what will become within her second term the ultimate prize of single-payer in the form of Medicare-for-All.
Upon the anticipated death of an aging Justice Scalia or the unanticipated but largely welcomed institutionalization of either Justice Thomas or Justice Alito within her Presidency, President Clinton sets another historic precedent by placing in nomination the name of a humbled and grateful former President Barack Hussein Obama as Justice on the Supreme Court, the first American to have served in each of the three branches of the federal government, effectively restoring a Center-Left majority which upholds and affirms Medicare-for-All, and while so doing publishes the most succinct majority opinion in the history of American jurisprudence, invoking the age-old populist axiom: "It's Constitutional, Bitches!"
President Clinton and Vice-President Richardson serve through 2024, by which time the United States of America has succeeded in colonizing Mars under Space Admiral and diamond-mining Chief Engineer Newt Gingrich, his pointy-eared War-on-Science officer Rick Santorum, and a litany of psuedo-intellectual junior communications officers from FOX NEWS Channel and AM Talk Radio, all competing for the attention of Chief Pettiness Officer Sarah Palin [I can see Jupiter from my house!] under the pointy-fingered watchful glare of Chief Insecurity Officer Jan Brewer [Eye-Scans, please!], each selected by President Clinton for the win-win potential of the appointments. Ultra-conservatives migrate en masse.
In their first transmission from the appropriately named 'Red Planet,' an overworked Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ron Paul is overheard complaining "Damn it, Newt, I'm a doctor not a bricklayer!"
Fade to black.
[No animals were injured in the production of this Right Wing nightmare, although Romney's dog Seamus was last seen strapped to the outside of Curiosity XIII, theoretically enjoying the ride]
That's about as realistic as Obama winning reelection.
I enjoyed that. It was very entertaining but at least the Dems have a plan.
I see it too !! Can't wait ...film at 11 !
Ive seen Ryan on tv talk shows and he sounds really smart. He puts forth ideas and plans. Its about time! Congress is the problem, they well screw up whoever is president, theyre like little kids.
Do we have budget plan yet? Ryan and Biden debating should be funny.I always figured Obama picked Joe because he is the dumbest white man they could find.
All you democrats are kidding yourselves, the country is in shambles and people vote with theyre pocket books,Romney well be the next president.
Ryan Romney plan kills Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and give more tax breaks to the rich while making middle class and poor pay for they...that simple.
Obama/Biden and TEAM AMERICA 2012
well ur long winded and the theartre montage make me think ur gay, but ur right that certainly would be a hellish place to live i think id join al-queda before living in a place like that
victory,
If you're a member of the Tea Party, you already HAVE joined al Qaeda.
....but clever retort regarding theater, though!
Anyone else notice the middle-aged black couple standing on the top row of the risers behind Romney as he spoke at Ryan's roll-out? They could have cared less, preferring to talk on their cell phones and look over the back of the platform for whatever reason, and only occasionally and half-heartedly lifting their American flags when the crowd around them responded? Were they a pair of Nigerian tourists shanghaied by Fehrnstrom at the last minute to add some color to an otherwise gray and dismal backdrop. Sheesh!
Talk about a poor visual.
...and Romney locking his face in that frozen grin as he dragged Ryan out and around to the front of the dias to greet the crowd, mumbling repeatedly a whispered and unnecessarily urgent "Come on, come on, come on..." as if he were talking to Seamus?
And who set up that platform? Wives and children behind and below the sight line of the crowd? Ryan turning his head away from the crowd repeatedly to introduce his family? Why weren't THEY on the stage with him?
And why did Romney LEAVE the stage altogether when Ryan was speaking? This is their moment to burn their pairing into the consciousness of the media and viewing public.
Misstep after misstep after misstep. Real rookies, these.
Great piece, I enjoyed that and I'm looking forward to watching it unfold!
Ryan is only going to appeal to those on the far,...farrrrrr right.
The selection of Ryan signals Romney's true sentiments and intentions.
Romney just lost all true moderates and independents. This ticket is for hard core conservatives only. You really have to want to see a MAJOR conservative shift,...even beyond GW Bush.
The word is DRACONIAN. You are on your own - no matter what. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer,...not my problem.
A Romney/Ryan administration will be very destructive to the middle class, dismantling the social safety net, further deregulation of business practices and unempowering government so that the people have no recourse.
Prepare to be steamrolled by the will of big business. Unless you are at the top,...you will work longer and harder for less,...and the pain won't end because you will get little to no support in your old age.
If Romney/Ryan gets control, their regime will be far more extreme than the GW Bush administration, which is how we got into the financial mess we are in.
Don't say nobody told you so.
Your vote matters more than ever.
Vote Obama/Biden 2012.
One thing you will not see on this forum is an intelligent comment by a liberal. All they manage to do is make fools of themselves by posting comments typical of a 4 year old.
Name calling so soon? And liberals are the "4" year olds huh?
...and you call your comment intelligent? Go back to elementary school and get an education.
bstnh1,
Keep telling yourself that lie, maybe one day you'll believe it. The truth is that you don't want to accept their argument, so you try to convince yourself that their POV is unintelligent.
bstnh1
Plenty of them there. You must have a degree of reading comprehension to recognize them.
i honestly am exasperated by the stupid childish @!$%# people say just because they dont like a presidential candidate....the republicans do it too but atleast they can be subtle and inteligent about it....not blunt and immature like the liberals
What is it with Republicans picking people that look handsome in a suit or dress? They constantly go for superficiality over intelligence. Stupid!!!
If you were going to hire a CEO and CFO for the largest company on the planet the was bankrupt and in horrible debt. Who would you pick as a pair to fix it?
Romney and Ryan,
or
Obama and Biden,
Enough said
Paul "Munester" Ryan handsome, I think not. never met a pasty face cheeesehead I would call handsome.
Publius,
The country isn't a company, and the function and responsibility of an U.S President is quite different and distinct from that of a CEO.
Thats the problem with you wingnuts, you're so easily fooled by false rhetoric, false metaphors, and ill construed arguments.
starfox- are you on bath salts? The biggest weakness of the Republican party is that they nominate competent people instead of rockstars. Do you remember Obama/McCain, Kennedy/Nixon, Clinton/Dole?!? The better fiscal choice didn't win those races the one that looked best on TV did.
Publius, Well at least you understand the United States Government is a Corporation????
Publius, I don't trust corporations. They only care about profit. They do not care about people. Corporations own Congress. Letting them put one of their own in the Oval Office is middle class suicide. Wake up!
How do you explain George W Bush then? No competency there. In fact we wouldn't be back peddling if he would have not won that rigged election in 2000.
I'm tired of everybody blaming anything bad that happened after the turn of the century on dubya. Everything was going well up until 9/11 and I think he handled that situation as well as anybody could have. The economic collapse didn't happen until campaign season '08 when it was beginning to look like the worlds biggest super power was about to be handed over to a community organizer with an insanely liberal voting record.
dinsmo..............ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! All Bush did before 911 was chop up brush and read my Pet Goat! The whole world said and wrote Cheney was the president and making every decision....TOO FUNNY!!! Everything was good?.....Failure to get Bin Laden , Lying nation into war in Iraq, killing thousands of our troops and more wounded dying every day and disabled. Gazillions of dollars lost and spent on Cheney's old company bilking war profits from the nation....and you are tired of everyone blaming Bush?......He is the Blame for all bad that happened, he created it! That is why EVERYONE BLAMES BUSH!
Wow dinsmo, blaming Obama for the economic collapse during Bush's tenure. You cannot be so naive. Please tell me you are joking.
Just the thought of an Obama presidency caused the great Bush economic meltdown? And some teabaggers say liberals spew mindless nonsense blaming everything on Bush, pot see kettle.
Therein lies the great fallacy of the Republican platform.
Government is nothing like a business.
For example, Hank Paulsen is a brilliant businessman, but as Treasury Secretary he was a dismal failure.
Free your mind people. Blindly listening to whatever the Democratic party cult tells you is exactly what the 2 or 3 hundred people that voted Mondale over Reagan did and look how stupid they looked on election night.
Well, Starfox, it is equally as relevant a question as to why Democrats always go for the color of someone's skin over their qualifications or experience. It's not like we want unintelligent people that look bad in a suit or a dress, or old white people who has never worn anything but a suit or a dress, nor do we want a half-black guy that looks good in a suit but has no history and multiple SS numbers, one of which is confirmed to be a dead guy's ID whom was born in 1890.
At least we know where these two come from and maybe, just maybe, Ryan will replace Romney due to having more testicular fortitude to fight back against the president's slander and shame attacks.
Not like Obama has anything in his record to run on, and even if he did it's already SEALED like everything else about him but what the media puts up for you to see.
@pubicus:
You have been misled into believing the country is bankrupt. This country has an ENORMOUS economy which is quite capable of handling the debt load, as long as business (the GDP) is good. To increase GDP and employment (ie: make business good) the government -- the only ones not dependent upon market demand -- must spend money to grow the economy.
So the answer to your question is Obama/Biden.
Romney/Ryan will only make it worse.
If you need more information -- and it appears you do -- read a book called "End this Depression Now" by Paul Krugman. Sure he's from the Dark Side, but you might learn something.
No! Romney did not introduce Paul Ryan as his "running mate"...Romney introduced Ryan as the next "president of the united states". What a dork!!! Laughable!!!
Tyler: Can you please remove Uncle Henry for violating the Vine's rules of engagement?
~~~ Thank you!
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
You betcha, fer sure. Funny thing is, Obama did exactly the same thing when introducing Biden 4 years ago.
And the seniors are very aware that Obama and his merry band of thieves stole $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
If Romneyhood pick's Ryan you people On MEDICARE, MEDICAID,SOCIAL SECURITY,DISABILITY, you can kiss your checks every month AWAY and help with your meds AWAY forever! Real nice, maybe your kids will take care of you!
yup time to get a job, prepare for retirement and not depend on MEDICAID,SOCIAL SECURITY,DISABILITY. Abled body with cart full of steaks yet paid with food stamps and a brand new ride. Go Romney/Ryan
yep time for all libs to get a job.
cwk from ohio: What do you think a "liberal" is?
Often, it's your neighbor who says "hi" as you drive by, people in your church, your family members, other fellow Americans.
What you're really saying is "extremist" and not liberal and I think there are plenty of extremists in both camps. Come back to the center, where a little bit of tax cuts, a little bit of social programs and a lot of good governance is so much wiser than name calling and division.
Thank you, Monkey, for your reasonable addition to this post. I agree infinitely.
Apparently you don't have a sense of humor, Don. A joke is something meant to be funny due to a juxtaposition of relevances meant to elicit a pleasant response from an audience. What your clowns on the liberal stations do is insult humor, which I realize is often more likely to get a laugh, and this is due to the fact that insult humor is the lowest form of comedy that even a primate can understand.
Romney's joke was for, believe it or not, teenage humans on up. Your photo makes you seem like you are one of these, but your mindset as displayed by your response says quite clearly that not only did you not get the joke, but you lack the mental capacity to comprehend actual humor. Fortunately you called it laughable, which means to me you are on the verge of intellectual evolution into being able to understand how jokes can make people laugh without being offensive to them or someone else or even lumping groups of people together to be offensive about them.
You'll understand someday when your cult has been swept aside and true progress can once again be had for the people of the United States. Until then I wish you your fellow primates the best, being such as Phrophet, Emoney Grip, Starsailing, and multiple others who have as much class as a bag of hammers due to their undeveloped mental state.
Repubs deliberately blocked keeping the student loan interest at lower rate until called out on it on national tv. Why would repubs want to make students pay higher rate of interest than the low interest rates the rich get? Same reason they are setting up voter suppression laws against the student all around the nation. They want the economy to tank under Obama, they don't want the young voting against repub tax dodgers!
Obama/Bide 2012
Hah, Hah, Hah, Hah, Hah, Mitt Romney just said, "Join me in welcoming the Next PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, Paul Ryan". Hah, Hah, Ha, Hah. I guess Mitt is going to be the V.P. ?????
Oh, man, this is priceless!!!
They haven't had their convention yet, I suppose they could ignore the vote and still switch
They will.
Is it just me or Romney actually introduced Ryan as the "Next President of The United States" ?
You betcha, fer sure. Funny thing is, Obama did exactly the same thing when introducing Biden 4 years ago.
And the seniors are very aware that Obama and his merry band of thieves stole $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
You can tell the rt wingers posting get their words from fox fake news....
Yep, a created fake news company. Many of these people only watch Fox news. Fox news was created in the minds of a few repubs back in Nixon days. The thought of having a fake news channel that would subliminally push only GOP messages that benefited the party. Meanwhile with hundreds of millions of dollars buying out small and large news stations it formed into what it is today. Fake news under the control of a Billionaire who dictates policy that benefits the rich through his media. Do search on ....fox news dumber...and see studies that show people who watch fox news are actually dumber for it!
Obama/Biden and team America 2012
How come rhe RWNJs are on this thread so early? They ought to be listening to the claptrap coming their way from Virginia. I guess they have already heard that crap already.
Good to see that Romney respects American traditions and runs his cartoons on Saturday morning. Now hopefully he will run their convention from four PM until the news comes on at five.
Good, this should put the nail in the coffin for the rethuglicans.
How dare you commoners poke fun at me. I am going to tell my wife to tromp you with her horse. I chose Ryan because like me, he understands we need not focus on the poor. They aren't like us.
Repuke stupidity is a beautiful thing.
All of the pundits on FOX News are claiming how great Paul Rying is at exposing the weaknesses in the Democrat's plans and how good he is at refutting Obama's proposals.
What they fail to realize is that Ryan's refuttals and arguments consist of false assumptions and premises. This is what Obama asserted earlier after Mr. Ryan challenged President Obama on one of his policy proposals.
Since Mr. Ryan wasn't a presidential or VP candidate, most analysts didn't bother to analyze and expose the weaknesses in his plans, rebuttals or ideas.
Lets see how well Mr. Ryan handles himself once his so-called intellectual house of cards begins to crumble.
That's because his house is built on the dopey fiction of Alisa Rosenbaum, a/k/a Ayn Rand. Well known atheist. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
Ayn Rand was a omnivore.
What are/were Obama's proposals.
Wally....not up on current events huh?
Not worried about Ryan at all, It is about time someone shines some light on Obama's plans. Ryan is the only one that has put a good plan on the table, Liberials have no plan, and havn't for the past 4 years, except to get everyone on welfare programs. The Choice is clear.
300....the ol reverse blame plan huh?....doesn't work. Everyone has seen and heard president Obama on national Tv for 3.5 years explaining his plans and trying to get the party of No to compromise with him. For years the party of no has presented no job bills, just crap on abortion, and gay people as if that was what the nation was worried about. Now after 3.5 years of repubs having NO PLANS other than giving tax breaks to the rich, you dare to blubber that liberals have no plan............................your false rant is clear.......
Give example of false assumption.
A note to all the right wing hunts. Please note Romney and Ryan are BOTH using teleprompters. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! What's up
