I think Mr. Obama has been a horrible president, an epic failure. But he is still the president, and unfortunately for the nation he stands a good chance of being elected again. We should not call him names, and we should not want him hurt. Same as with those who we politically oppose. I can say that RR's ideology has produced virtually nothing but stupid ideas, and I do think this, but I don't think RR must be stupid.

Mr. Obama is playing, I think, the smartest political strategy available to him to win, though it has the nasty side effect of pulling apart America even more. He can't run on his record else he would. And so he can't run on what his future promises are else he would do that too. His best play is to make Mr. Romney appear to independents and moderates to be an unacceptable alternative to him. See, Mr. Obama has a job approval of less than 50%, and in all polls voters support him by less than 50%, and those who are undecided usually break about 4-1 in favor of the alternative.

So without trashing Mr. Romney, a person so squeaky clean it will be very embarassing to the Obama camp, Mr. Obama has little chance. Those undecideds in the middle MUST be made to fear Mr. Romney. How else to do it but to attack him personally?

You can join a party, or not, it should be okay with anyone, but it's a mistake to think that only those not in a party are objective and possess common sense. Those not in a party, for instance, were the margin that helped elect Mr. Obama. In my state, those not in a party are the majority makers who helped usher in this high speed rail system which will cost us tens of billions more than projected and never deliver the benefits promised. The evidence doesn't support your conclusion, which is that with independents doing the voting we will have better outcomes, since it is the independents that make most elections, certainly for president, go one way or the other.

Just because I'm a republican doesn't mean I can't see that someone in another party might be better than my party's candidate. The simple fact that people in each major party cross party lines to vote for "the other guy" ought to be enough to disprove your claim.

I don't know why you think Mr. Obama isn't legitimate. He got the most electoral college votes, and he satisfies the minimal constitutional requirements for the office. He sucks, but he sucks legitimately.

Bush could not have stolen the election. If you think it was stolen then your blame should be for either the Florida SC, or the USSC, or (not as odd as it sounds) Gore. I think the USSC opinion was poorly crafted, but the gist of it should be acceptable to everyone in the USA: Every vote should have equal weight. Because Mr. Gore only wanted democrat-rich counties recounted (as Florida law permitted), and because votes on identical style ballots were being counted differently from county to county, then not every vote had equal weight. I can go on and on about this topic, but the point is that a flawed process was set up in Florida, and was being manipulated to his benefit by Mr. Gore, and this must be illegal for all votes to have equal weight.

Politics today might be uglier than 20 years ago, but I doubt it. It does flow in cycles though, usually based upon one side winning the hearts and minds of voters. So about 80 years ago democrats won that debate and since then we've seen massive expansions of our government. Even when republicans held power. The TEA Party is a push back against this expansion, and people who've built their lives on the idea of being taken care of are very upset. The money is no longer there. They don't like to be told things must change. They continue to want their free stuff. But it was ugly 80 years ago, it was very ugly 112 years ago, and it was downright violent 208 years ago.

There is nothing illegal about doing fundraisers overseas. The people giving the money must be American citizens, that's all. And you can get money from foreign firms, groups, or nations, for your public interest group's, meaning non-political, activities. I think you had Romney in mind given that on his recent trip he raised money from American citizens abroad. But why should Americans working in foreign countries not be allowed to participate in our political process?

Attack ads, normally, are very helpful. They usually contain information which is not often presented by the media. Without some negative ads what do you expect to hear in the MSM about Mr. Obama if not good and optimistic stories? So while it'd be nice if voters sought all this out on their own, the fact is they don't, and they won't, and as a conservative, especially one who has run for elective office, I cannot depend on the MSM to present a "fair" picture of my liberal opponents. The MSM, to use your analogy, supports the Yankees, not the Red Sox.

A few short years ago the entire country was going down the drain, millions of jobs lost, companies moving overseas, record debt, everybody hurting, except the rich, they did great. Budgets do not come from
the White House.. They come from Congress and the party that
controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 &
2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.

In that first year, they had
to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on
spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending
increases.

For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid
bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep
government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that
time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the
2009 budget.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He
was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive
spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to
complete 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked like during
that period:
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the
2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was
the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit
spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending,
and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If
Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a
nutshell, what Obama is saying is "I inherited a deficit that I
voted for, and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since
January 20th."

There is no way this will be widely
publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

You are mistaken, sir. My mother, who used to make over $100,000 a year, lost her job when her "rich" real estate employers went bankrupt. Now she struggles to pay for her house payment, bills, and even food for my younger siblings. Because the real estate market still sucks, she hasn't been able to get her old career back.

Many rich employers, corporations and people also went out of business when the economy crashed, and few have been helped by the Obama administration.

We’ve seen some recent good news about unemployment numbers coming down, more jobs being created. This will certainly be rejected, partly because it is counter to the conventional wisdom, partly because it will appear as a defense for banks. What it really is though is an indictment of regulatory wisdom.

The banks made no mistakes. They played within the rules in handing out all those stupid loans. Had GSEs like Fannie and Freddie not have provided a secondary market where that risky paper could be bought up, then those loans would not have been made. But who, seriously, would not give out risky loans, netting their firm a tidy profit, when the risk was going to be assumed by the federal government?

The problem wasn't that banks made stupid loans. They did. The problem was that the banks were able to profit from them and escape financial responsibility for them. Mr. Bush was wrong to support TARP. Mr. Obama is more wrong to have continued TARP, and to abuse TARP in order to prop up other industries too. At least it can be said that Mr. Bush, despite F and F overwhelmingly helping liberals running for office, supported TARP because he thought it would save the economy. This can't be said for Mr. Obama, who has used TARP in order to support his friends so that the financial gravy train to him and his party could continue.

End federal support for businesses. Provide no safety net to firms that make unwise economic choices. Reduce regulations on all firms, including financial firms, but only if the risk environment they operate within is allowed to faced directly by the businesses involved. Anything less, like trying to regulate risk out of the marketplace while simultaneously remaining the economic safety net, and the federal government is just ensuring that another bubble will one day develop, and hundreds of billions can again be taken from the people and be given to businesses and the government.

Neither candidate has a strong government history on which they can run. They are reduced to "Don't vote for that guy, he's bad." Mitt Romney's problem is that he has allowed the Democratic party to define him. The Democrats have, effectively, "swift-boated" Romney. Romney certainly did not help matters. There is nothing illegal about foreign investments or having bank accounts in the Cayman Islands or Switzerland. However, since most people barely have a checking account and a savings account, it just tells people how different he is than most.

Also, the Caymans and Swiss bank accounts have, historically, been locations which had been know to be places where people who wanted to hide money from the government kept it. While no longer true, the stigma attaches. An intelligent person planning on running for President should know better. Romney's inability to understand something so basic does call into question his common sense, something the President of the US certainly needs.

We were after bin Laden far before he was president. I'm sure it took years and hard work from various organizations within our government to locate and put a plan in action to take him out. Was Obama on seal team six? Did he raid bin Laden's compound? What he did was say "let's take him out" giving the seals the okay to get him while he watched.
