Romney will say anything, in this case to get attention -- and divert from not releasing taxes, etc. The US has important allies, of which Israel is one. This does not, however, mean that any ally can do something crazy (like attack Iran) and the US is automatically beholden to become embroiled at the cost of our blood and treasure.

But the real story is, Israel is less a warmonger than Romney (thank goodness), and as President Obama has shown, we can accomplish a lot with non-military action. For example, attacking nuclear systems with viruses, embargoes, etc. in regard to Iran, drones in regard to terrorism, etc. Libya was yet another example of a limited military involvement not requiring boots on the ground -- or for over a decade of involvement.

Anyone like Romney (Cheney, McCain, Graham) who proposes a huge percent of our GDP in SPENDING on defense, warmongering, and the Military Industrial Complex at the expense of investment here at home -- These Republicans are allies to Osama bin Laden, who's plan was to bleed the US dry financially.

Obama has devoted himself to the military, if by "military" you mean the soldiers not the military-industrial complex, by reforming the Dept. of veterans' affairs to deliver better services, raising active-duty salaries and benefits, starting transition programs for those mustering out, reforming veterans hospitals, making the dept. more responsive to those with traumatic brain injury, and on and on. This he has done for years now, not just during an election campaign. Romney likes the military in that he wants to start a war with someone (he doesn't like the Arab Spring, he says), maybe Iran, to have some excuse like George to shovel mountains of cash to the big corporations that supply the military with services and materiel. We've got to stop going to war, for C. sake! The United States has a "solemn duty" to prevent Iran, from ATTACKING any country, not just Israel.

Those in Israel that cry loudest for war and expanded settlements are those that are exempt from the typical compulsory military service because they are full time religious scholars. More to the point is 10% of Romney's charity is tithing to the Mormon church, which all Mormons in good standing pay. I don't know about other folks, but I could care less if the Mormon church has money to build more temples and send more missionaries around the world to convert more people to pay more tithing to build more temples.

I don’t think Romney is a war monger. I for one applaud his willingness to take a stand. Obama hasn’t been willing to do that on anything on the world stage that I’ve seen so far. He “warns,” he wants to slap hands and tell the children to play nice. This isn’t preschool, those tactics are useless and no, they aren’t “diplomacy.” Diplomacy is working to negotiate a settlement – that’s not what Obama is doing. He wants to stand on the sidelines with a set of pom poms and cheer them on while they are slaughtered.

We have to operate with strength or we just become another joke. That doesn’t mean that I want to
see another war. I don’t, I have a son and grandsons that I want to keep safe. But we can’t be afraid to take that step if its needed. People need to understand that we will end up in another war before it’s over with – Obama or Romney, it doesn’t matter – it will happen. Independent Study Finds Bush "Unequivocally" Lied U.S. into War with Iraq

A nonprofit collaboration of two independent, non-governmental organizations has concluded that President Bush used at least 532 misleading and deceptively false statements to justify military action against Iraq. In all, the Bush administration as a whole used a mind-numbing 935 false statements to goad America into war with Iraq. Calling their findings "an orchestrated deception on the path to war," the partnership report may very well be the first fully comprehensive investigation that incontrovertibly proves the Bush administration lied this nation into an unfounded war.

The Center for Public Integrity and the Fund for Independence in Journalism determined, through a collective study and breakdown of Bush administration speeches, press briefings and interviews, that Bush and other top officials "led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information."

According to the report, Bush alone lied more than 259 times, including 232 false statements "about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq" and "28 about Iraq's links to al-Qaida." Quoting Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith of the Fund for Independence in Journalism, "It is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to al-Qaida." Furthermore, the shared study noted, "the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

Among the seven top officials cited, Colin Powell was the most egregious in the dispersal of dissembling and mendacious language regarding the requisite call for war against Iraq. Powell is attributed to having made 244 false statements about weapons of mass destruction in a two-year period beginning on September 11, 2001 and through the commencement of military action in Iraq on March 18, 2003.

As a microcosm example of at least 935 lies cataloged by the exhaustive study, Vice President Dick Cheney declared on August 26, 2002 that "Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction." Bush's patently false proclamation, made on May 29, 2003, "We have found the weapons of mass destruction," has now been completed discredited. Of course, no weapons of mass destruction were ever found and George Bush, on NBC's Meet the Press in 2004 conceded, "No weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq."

In a never-ending stream of fuzzy rationales to justify war, beginning as early as November of 2001, the Bush administration began making disingenuous statements attempting to tie Saddam to the attackers of 9/11. Quoting Bush, "They're both risks, they're both dangerous. The difference, of course, is that Al Qaeda likes to hijack governments. Saddam Hussein is a dictator of a government. Al Qaeda hides, Saddam doesn't, but the danger is, is that they work in concert." However, in stark contrast, the 9/11 Commission Report was unable to establish any "evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with Al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States."

The comprehensive study also touches on and illuminates the vast failures of the mainstream media; mainly their failure to offer critical scrutiny, while chiefly operating as Bush's surrogate and disseminator in the misleading rhetoric of the dire need to take the country to war. During that critical, seminal juncture in the run up to the war, the media "creating an almost impenetrable din" that forced out nearly all dissenting views, the report revealed.

In what may be the first true, categorical "War Report Card" that separates fact from fiction, fine tunes mass distortion into utter clarity, the Center for Public Integrity makes a compelling case that "Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq."

I believe the higher purpose here though, was for Romney to solidify His base of Evangelicals and Nazi types here in the US. There remains considerable skepticism among these crazies about voting for a "Bishop" of "cultist Mormonism". He had 'em anyway though. When it comes to a choice between "Satan's" stepson, and a "Black man", these sons and daughters of warped, antiquitized imaginings, will always go with the lesser evil, which, in this case is Satans progeny, over the "Black Man", whom their god condemned from the beginning.

Mittens' foreign policy follies will result in one of two things. The first possibility is Mittens will do Israel's bidding outright and try to take out Iran's nuclear facilities. The other is he'll let Israel take the first shot, then jump in once Israel gets in over their heads. Both options are foolish. The nuclear facilities are almost impossible to get at because they are underground inside mountains. The only sure-fire way to get at these facilities is to go in on the ground. Israel most likely is not stupid enough to attempt this on their own, and it will certainly be bloody for anyone stupid enough to try it.

Then there's a wild card called China. China covets and needs Iranian oil. They will certainly view anyone taking any shots at Iran as a threat to their access to that oil. At some point, the US could find itself at war with China. What favors China? The US would be in a war that it did not plan and is not prepared for, a pure result of unintended consequences. China has an overwhelming numbers advantage; in the age 20 and under bracket alone, males outnumber females by 32 million. China, in general, has an over-abundance of young men either entering their prime years or in their prime years who have zero economic and female opportunities in China. This means they should be more than motivated to go to war to get what's not available to them at home. And China needs to go to war within the next ten years if it wants to remain an Asian and world power.

The only thing that would prevent China from going to war over access to Iranian oil is that China must go to war with India within those ten years. War with India makes more sense. China wants its currency to be a gold-backed reserve currency. India, year-in, year-out, is the world's largest buyer of gold; households buy gold as a store of wealth. There's plenty of gold in India to make invasion and conquest worthwhile, not to mention plenty of females for those young Chinese men remake the face of Asia and the subcontinent.

Then there are birth rates and brain power. China is a low birth-rate country, with 123 boys age four and under for every 100 girls of the same age. India is a high-birth rate country, with 1000 boys age six and under for every 825 girls of the same age. China is not a brain power economy while India is; year after year, no country turns out more engineers than India. If China does not go to war with India, China, in 30 years, projects out as a country of old men who haven't produced any children; this means a shrinking manufacturing workforce with no one to replace them. India would have an incredible over-supply of brain power just hitting their prime, holding high wage jobs. Unlike the gender disparity currently seen in China, the future gender disparity in India will have the financial means and job skills to go anywhere and find females. Unless China goes to war and finishes India, China and India will flip-flop their standing in the world, with China trailing India by a margin wider than the current lead China has over India.

If someone does hit Iran's nuclear facilities and China does not respond by going on high alert, you now know why.

What I find strange is that most Americans do not know that it was EISENHOWER that caused the Second Indochina War (Vietnam War) by his actions in violating the "1954 Geneva Agreements on Indochina". JFK, LBJ and Nixon only expanded the war.

What about all the other minor conflicts -- Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Grenada, Panama, "the Contra Affair" and others. Both Democrats and Republicans have both been guilty of starting wars in America's interests.

Both have done it, but there have been so many undeclared wars since WWII and it's hard to keep track. How many undeclared wars have happened since WWII and which party enjoys the distinction of starting the most undeclared wars?

So I think it's sort of even. What's not even are casualty numbers under Democrat undeclared wars vs. Republican undeclared wars.

And that depends on what counts as an "undeclared war." Personally, I wouldn't consider military action in Libya an "undeclared war" because we were upholding a UN resolution and kept US involvement at a bare minimum. If any use of military assets in another country constitutes "undeclared war," then I would think Republican presidents probably started more, considering all the undercover and overt military action Nixon, Ford, and Reagan took during the Cold War.

Off the top of my head -

Korea - Democrat
Vietnam - Democrat
Grenada - Republican
Panama - Republican
Bosnia - Democrat
Lebanon - Republican
Afghanistan 1 - Democrat
Somalia - Republican
Cuba - Democrat
Truman sent the first advisors to Vietnam in 1950.
Carter got us involved in Afghanistan in 1979.

So it looks like it's pretty even. The body count award definitely goes to the Democrats though. I didn't include Iraq and Afghanistan simply because [a Republican] Congress authorized those two with a joint resolution, which is pretty much the same as a declaration of war.

Democrats wage more declared wars and have larger body counts. Republicans love war and as a result, they start more undeclared wars -- and as a result of the cost, it's one of several major factors in creating more national recessions after the Korean War. Let us not forget though, that it was a Republican President and his policies that started the Great Recession. Democrats try to pull us out of these recessions the Republicans start, along with their undeclared wars in the latter half of the 20th century. If the Democrats cannot stop the wars or end the recessions, the wars get fought until we pull the troops out, while the recession cycles, end.

So both sides had had their share of wars and both sides had their reasons. But it is disingenuous to say that Democrats start more wars. That is being intellectually dishonest and is only part of the full history of American involvement in wars, both declared and undeclared.

The exception is Nixon, he ended America's heavy military involvement in Vietnam. But in this current day and age of the GOP Tea Party, Nixon would be rejected from the Republican Party, and he would be considered a liberal, for he wanted peace, started diplomatic talks with Communist China, and he started the EPA, three things the modern conservative GOP, absolutely hates.

After G.W. Bush got into the Oval Office, it's safe to say that more Republicans love war to this very day, and start more wars both declared and undeclared, than Democrats. Democrats end up waging these wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ...and unlike the Republicans, Democrats pay for these wars in both the cost and in lives, and Democrats will likely end American heavy military involvement in these wars, too.

If Romney gets voted in, I am almost certain he will get us quickly involved in an undeclared, unilateral war with Iran, for the sake of showing his support for Israel, for religious reasons of right-wing politics. For example, he has already expressed a desire to support a continuance of the foreign unilateral policies of Bush and Cheney.

Military service is not a prerequisite for being President, but of all the presidents we have had, only 12 have had no prior military service. An equal number, 12, held the rank of general officer before being elected to the presidency. All the rest were officers holding ranks from 2nd. Lieutenant to Colonel, except for James Buchanan who was a private and the only enlisted member to become President (he fought in the war of 1812). It is hard to classify them in terms of Democrat or Republican, however, since those parties did not always exist.

Dan M-1100664 -- I have never been able to serve, but currently have three family members who are serving, as well as my father, uncles, etc. -- Like the president's grandfather did, and more than Romney can claim. Obviously, not enough of it has been shed in order for our Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, to conclude that the Muslim Brotherhood is a subversive organization and the parent of al-Qaeda and Hamas, which has sponsored or encouraged nearly every Islamic terrorist attack made against America and the West since it was created in 1928.

The Muslim Brotherhood has worked in fits and starts, to be sure, as its power has waxed or waned. But the goal of establishing a global Islamic caliphate under the gruesome supervision and hideous application of Sharia law has never dimmed for an instant. It is as patient as it is well organized as it is lethal. It assassinated one Egyptian president in the 1940s, fomented revolution against another in the 1950s, murdered President Sadat in 1981 for making peace with Israel and is directly linked to the terrorist plotters of 9/11. It has never ceased to spread its tentacles over the globe. So fraternal are its instincts that it now operates in more than 80 countries.

Mr. Clapper wishes us to believe that the Muslim Brotherhood is a benign organization which has “eschewed violence” and now is so overcome with liberal democratic values that we should not be suspicious or afraid.

However, the evidence forces us to believe the exact opposite. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), The Muslim Student Association (MSA) and a host of others are all fronts of the Muslim Brotherhood which seek to establish relations and influence in our local, state and federal governments, in our law enforcement and intelligence communities, in our military, in our prisons, in the media, in our schools and in our universities.

The creed of the Muslim Brotherhood clearly states: “God is our objective; the Koran is our law; the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.” Perhaps if Director Clapper labored deep into the night and applied some arcane cipher he could discover this really means: “Oh, what a friend we have in Jesus”, but somehow I doubt it. Even the most amateur code-breaker would never mistake ”jihad” for croquet or “death for the sake of Allah…” for, “Tennis anyone?”

In 2008 the Holy Land Foundation, a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood, was convicted of raising money for the terrorist group Hamas, yet one more wholly owned subsidiary of the Muslim Brotherhood. Its leaders were given life sentences for funneling $12 million to Hamas. During the trial documents revealed a strategy paper which stated:

“The Ikhwan (Arabic for Muslim Brotherhood) must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

It went on to say that this process requires a “mastery of the art of ‘coalitions’, the art of ‘absorption’ and the principles of ‘cooperation’.” In other words the scheme is to ingratiate and insinuate themselves into our society by appearing to be in favor of pluralism, democratic values, common fellowship all the time gaining trust and acceptance only to sucker punch us when the time is right.

It is fair to say the Muslim Brotherhood knows just as much about its goals, aspirations and intentions as Director Clapper so why would he appear before Congress and make such disingenuous statements that mischaracterize the true nature of the Muslim Brotherhood? With the enormous amount of information and sensitive intelligence at his disposal, how could he fail to see the true nature of the threat we face?

For the answer one need look no farther than the Oval Office. Director Clapper is just one more pawn in Barack Obama’s steadfast devotion to the cultural Marxism of political correctness who is duly dispatched to anesthetize us against the relentless march of Islamic totalitarianism disguising its dark underside and blunting its jagged edges in order to make it appear less menacing.

Americans thought they had elected a president who would safeguard America’s security and defend her interests. Instead they woke up with a leader who treats enemies better than friends.

The WikiLeaks revelations show the fundamentally dishonest nature of Obama’s relations toward Israel and how he sought to convince the Israelis that concessions about settlements and Jerusalem would have to be made in order to mollify the Arab world so that their support against Iran could be obtained.

However, the Arab world was desperately trying to get Obama to move against Iran regardless of the situation between Israel and the Palestinians.

Obama also demonstrated his ideological preferences when he appointed Israel-bashing Samantha Powers as Director of Multilateral Affairs for the National Security Council and when he attempted to appoint anti-Israel Charles Freeman as Chairman of The National Intelligence Council.Last July he gave approval to the PLO to fly their flag over its Mission in Washington, D.C. and upgraded its status to that of a delegation, which gives PA officials diplomatic immunity and the status that is attached to it. Abbas pocketed this concession but still failed to arrest terrorists or end the incitement of violence and hatred toward Jews.

Our friends, a diminishing band, are now beginning to think that being America’s ally is more dangerous than being America’s enemy. Since coming to power Obama has alienated Great Britain, betrayed Poland and Czechoslovakia and moved against Israel.

A few days ago the people who were demonstrating in Tahrir Square and some 81 million other Egyptians, who were being cheered on by the Obama administration and the Western media, woke up to find Mubarak gone and the Egyptian military in charge. This does not a Jeffersonian democracy make.

History teaches us that in this kind of situation it is usually the group which is the most cohesive and best organized that will eventually take power. It is Egypt’s misfortune that this is the Muslim Brotherhood. It is likely that by using democratic means they will, as their surrogate Hamas has done in Gaza, treat Egyptians to one man, one vote, one time. It will be easy to vote them in and almost impossible to vote them out, and that is when it will dawn on the Western democracies that Obama’s ideological opposition to American exceptionalism is no substitute for a foreign policy.

The United States has a "solemn duty" to prevent Iran, from ATTACKING any country, not just Israel.

We also have a "solemn duty" to "spread democracy and freedom" by "liberating" Iraq and Afghanistan from their dictatorial leaders. How the hell did that work out????

As to threats, what response will prevent words? Frankly, I don't care what the Iranians say, as long as they realize the consequences of acting out their threats. They can sabre rattle until the cows come home, as long as their sword never leaves it's sheath.

I think the Iranians are smart enough to realize that if they attack Israel, they can expect economic collapse as the United Nations will decry the assault and sanctions will be ratcheted up. Even China and India will have to tighten restrictions on Iranian crude, to save geopolitical face. The economy will then tank; a revolution could emerge and overthrow the Iranian regime, and the leaders would have just shot themselves in the foot just to scare off the Israelis.

If Iran were to go to war with Israel, exactly how would Iranian ground forces reach Israel, as they share no common border? That means that either a ground war is out, or that Iran needs to violate another nation's borders, perhaps Iraq?

Iran will NEVER invade Iraq for two reasons; one, they learned how hard it is to fight the Iraqis during the Iran-Iraq War of the 1970s and 80s. Two, they learned from us how invading and then occupying Iraq (which they would have to do to secure supply lines and transport) is downright impossible, due to the emergence of an insurgency. Their best option considering Iraq is to covertly support the Shiite politicians so that they can take over the government and turn Iraq into Iran's puppet, replacing the unstable Assad regime in Syria. As for Israel, Iran's best chance is an air war, and they will most likely get crushed or face heavy losses due to Israeli air defenses and their crack air force, supplemented by U.S-made F-16s.

If Iran violates Iraqi borders, do we not also have an obligation to the Iraqis, as we did to the Kuwaitis?

Or are we expected to stand by and watch Iran occupy Iraq?

First of all, for the reasons I have already posted, Iran will never occupy Iraq. If we were as smart as them, we wouldn't have invaded Afghanistan after the Soviet debacle there. Secondly, we practically gave Kuwait to the Iraqis; Sec. of State Madeleine Albright is recorded to have allowed Saddam to take the small country.

First of all, Obama didn't cut from Medicaid; his healthcare law even expands it. And secondly, Medicare's cuts were from increases in spending, which according to numerous conservatives both in Washington and on this blog are not actual spending cuts.

The estate tax is not as cruel as you think it is. Think of it like this: the estate tax is only for people who have an estate that is over $3.5 million. In the U.S, we try to pride ourselves on being one of the few nations that does not (or does not advocate) an inheritance-based aristocracy. Repealing the estate tax will grow such an aristocracy, essentially taking away part of the exceptionalism that conservatives love to brag about. Don't give me that "compassion" crap on the "death tax;" it's one of the only taxes that is truly progressive, and thus fair. Plus the tax is much lower than it used to be; thanks to Bush catering the wealthiest Americans with his stupid tax cuts. And technically, illegal aliens help seniors by paying payroll taxes but not collecting SS benefits, essentially subsidizing the program. And please name one American that would like to work for minimum wage in the summer heat picking cotton and strawberries.

Since when does government spending lose jobs??? If the government spends $10 billion for rebuilding a road, that would create thousands of jobs. As for Romney's trip photo-opt ploy, he will say anything, in this case to get attention -- and divert from not releasing taxes, etc. The US has important allies, of which Israel is one. This does not, however, mean that any ally can do something crazy (like attack Iran) and the US is automatically beholden to become embroiled at the cost of our blood and treasure.

But the real story is, Israel is less a warmonger than Romney (thank goodness), and as President Obama has shown, we can accomplish a lot with non-military action. Maybe I would like to see the facts on it. But it seems that 700 billion came from the Bush bailout package and it went to bailout financial companies that helped cause the 2008 economic crisis. I believe Obama's stimulus package also helped save the US auto industry.

Show me exactly where in my post that I said we need to invade countries we disagree with. You can't, because I never said that.

I said that if we don't stand for something, we stand for nothing, and proceeded to say we need to take a stand against wars of aggression. Taking a stand does exclusively mean starting a war, however, when someone else starts one, as a world leader we should not sit back and ignore it.

The Second Iraq War was a premature war, it was based upon Saddam having "weapons of mass destruction", a smoke screen phrase created by political advisors for nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Had it clearly been stated as NBC weapons, the counterarguement would have been more persuasive. Saddam had chemical weapons (he had used them against the Iranians and the Kurds, but many countries have them also); biological weapons (disease) is the genie in the bottle, once you uncork it it is difficult to put it back into the bottle, it spreads and kills; and nuclear, which Saddam clearly didn't have, or need. The opposition to the war fell into the political trap and started using the term "WMD" because it was convenient, allowing the discussion to shift away from specifics to generalities. That is why they lost, and we went to war.

That's without even going into the weapons inspectors issue. In short, the second Gulf War was premature. However, the first Gulf War was necessary as Saddam had occupied another nation and was not about to leave peacefully. The first Gulf war was a war of aggression by Saddam which should have been stopped cold in it's tracks before it was ever launched by standing firm against Saddam's idea of invasion. A little bit of backbone by the US ambassador to Iraq would have gone a long way.

The agrarian society failed to recognize that technology, like the cotton gin (invented in 1793) was going to revolutionize agriculture and reduce the dependency on labor. Industrial era farming techniques increased crop output, while at the same time decreasing labor requirements.

During the years after the slaves were freed, agricultural production went up.

Americans died because one faction was afraid to modernize. Had the South won, and kept there slaves, they would have found they could not compete using a labor based economy. Today, there would be no use for all those slaves.

As to foreign interference, where do you think the weapons came from to fight the US Civil War? many came from Europe, where money was made stirring the pot. Good posts. Very balanced and rational look at the problems. Just to add my two cents...anyone with the courage to look at the United State's political, economical and intellectual landscapes with objective, data based analysis, might recognize the following:

Class warfare in the United States is not between the Rich and Poor. The rich don't care about the poor and haven't for fifty years. They have no need to care about the American poor because they have Chinese, Indian, Brazilian and African poor to do what they need done for them at a lower cost. The warfare is between 'established wealth' in America and American 'landowners.'

American 'landowners,' are people that owned their house, had a small amount of wealth, owned and operated small businesses, kept a large savings and lived conservative lifestyles.

Every policy that we have seen (regardless of what any politician says) has in some way resulted in the small landowner's loss of property. Welfare does it (money printing that deflates the value of individual wealth while inflating the price of commodities. Welfare for the poor is also a subsidy that drives the local price of labor up, costing small businesses more), the lose lending policies did it (added capital to markets at incredible rates, all of which was leveraged, inflating commodities, deflating personal wealth), laws such as the NDAA, Patriot Act and the like accomplish this by making government more powerful.

The fact that Romney can even be nominated by the GOP shows just how far down this path we have gone. We used to nominate politicians that were pro big business, now we (the conservatives) are nominating the head of pro big business establishment.

It really does not matter who you vote for. The deficit will increase next year, the social security and medicare funds deducted automatically from your pay will never be returned to you (unless if you live to be 105), and the laws in this country will continue to become more restrictive to anyone but the most well positioned and wealthy, while the government all but ceases to tax and regulate them in any manner while police forces increase the taxing and regulation of a large population that has no property, no rights and no wealth.

This is all called the decline of an empire. It has happened before and will happen again. It happened in Rome and then after Rome. Happened in Persia, Egypt, England, multiple times in China, in Russia, Europe, the Holy Roman Empire and probably even in early American Empires such as the Mayans and Aztecs.
