The worst thing about these folks who game the tax code is that you and I wind up paying for the unemployment or retraining or pension replacement or making up for their interest deductions.

3. Several sources -- even liberal sources -- confirm that Romney was not managing Bain after 1999. The Obama machine advances known misinformation, saying Romney was in charge until 2002 to cover for their misinformation that Romney outsourced jobs.

You may also be interested in knowing the the whole reason President Obama's detractors want his transcripts is because they want to dig for citizenship status, racial identification, etc. I doubt they are interested in his grades. Romney will not release all this tax records because if the american people really knew about this man's money, investments, Bain business practices, off-shore accounts which he pays no taxes on and what he is really worth....they would N E V E R vote for him and throw-up everytime they see him on television in faded jeans and cuffs rolled up on his $1,000 white shirt trying to look like "everyday american joe". He dresses down because that's what he thinks of the majority of Americans. Romney may say he had nothing to do with GST Steel's downfall after being aquired by Bain, but he is a liar. He states "I had nothing to do with it because it happened in 2001". He is not truthful. SEC records show he changed his status to "limited partner" in 1999 to be able to run the Olympics, but retained full ownership of Bain. He was receiving the same 1.35 Billion per yr from the Equity firm and kept that status in order to run for Gov. of Mass in 2002. Most people don't even know what Bain Capitol is. They are a (ficticious - Gordon Gecko from the movie wall street) equity firm that buys undervalued companies, lays off their workers to cut cost further, strips everything from the business then resells them for profit usually to an off shore company. There are a few companies out there that Bain purchased and were successful like Staples and Sports Authority, but nearly 50% file bankrupsy after being aquired by Bain.

And as for everyone who wants to know about President Obama's college transcripts.....the man was the President of the Prinston Law Review. That said, no average "c" student or even "B" student gets that prestegious title, let alone a professor of constitutional law.

Did he draw a salary as continuing president of Bain? As CEO, whether he sat in on the board meetings or not, did he participate in the profits? Regardless of whoever made the off-shore decisions, did he benefit from those decisions? Perhaps, if we could see his tax returns, we might know those answers. First, let's be clear, SCOTUS did not find the mandate a tax. They found the tax to be the enforcement measure for the mandate. Let's also be clear that SCOTUS absolutely did say those parts of Obamacare are a tax. In fact in their opinions they made it clear that this was the only way the majority found the the law to be constitutional...because Congress has the authority to tax. Their written opinions made it clear that were it not a tax, Congress would have no such authority and they would have ruled it unconstitutional.

Your statement suggests that as long as Romney wasn't the guy who made the decision to target certain companies, acquire them, gut them like a fish, enjoy the good parts and throw away the rest that he's off the hook for how they raped so many Americans. First of all, since Romney has proved himself to be a liar without equal, even in the political world, I would need to see proof that he had no involvement. But even if he did have no involvement, he knew the business M.O. of Bain. After all, he invented and perfected it. And even if he was not involved in the active decision making, the undeniable fact is that he profited from how his company executed his strategy so it's really a red herring to say that he wasn't involved. He most certainly was neck deep in it whether he personally decided on who to target or not. It was his company, his people, his strategy, and his money and profit. If GM, like many other companies before them, were allowed to reorganize under a chapter 11 bankruptcy, they would have stayed open, not lost many jobs, and they would have come out of it in much much better shape than they did with the government handout. That was Obama's goal, to help the unions so he could keep their votes. -- So the basic answer to the question: Obama has done hardly anything to create jobs. Unemployment has been over 8% for a record number of months.

News reports, Romney graduated from Brigham Young University with a 3.97 grade point average and was in the top 5% of his class at Harvard Business School, where he simultaneously earned a law degree.

In 1999, the New Yorker published a copy of George W. Bush's Yale transcript.

The Washington Post published Gore & Bush's SAC scores and college course grades from Harvard & Yale. And the Boston Globe published Kerry's Transcripts.

This is specifically to smooth the transition from one executive to another on current deals or new deals the new CEO wishes to pursue. For the CEO to act in a foreign country, he must first be registered as the CEO in that country. This process can take months. I know, I have seen this happen 2 times.

The New CEO, who is an Obama Bundler, is the one who made the decision to outsource after Romney resigned.

The point of business is to make a profits. Since 77% of Bain Capital businesses invested in during Romney's stay are still in business, and many required additional expense to Bain to expand or aquire companies that could help hadly equates to "Wringing" out profits.

3. Squeeze out profits by cutting costs, i.e. destroying employees lives by firing workers and the alleviation benefits including pensions;

First, nearly every company Bain invests in is about bankrupt, meaning any pension was already gone. Second, As for firing employees, laying people off is not firing people. They qualify for unemployment, to allow them to find another job without losing "everything"

4. Using the company as collateral to borrow money from banks and deducting that interest from the taxes, showing a falsely inflated profit for that company;

Um, any loan to a company requires property as collateral. Borrowing entitles you to a interest deduction, which will increase your real profit.

5. Getting the company to pay a special dividend to repay the original investors and a bonus for himself.

First it wasn't a special dividend. I don't know were you get this from. Bain has put together a few deals where they purchased companies to form a new company. Then after the company shows strong earnings they go public in a IPO - just like Google did.

6. They sell the now 'profitable' company for more than they paid an pocket 20% of the gains from the sale, capital gains that they pay a lower tax rate on. That's the scam, because the lower rate is supposed to be an incentive for people to risk their own money to improve the state of the nation.

Anything Bain pockets goes into a new venture into struggling companies that makes 77% profitable.

Romney's investments in Cayman funds are taxed exactly as if he were invested in U.S. funds.

The only time anyone does not pay taxes in the Cayman Island is if they are a resident and their income is made there.

Anyone, including Democrats, who have substantial amounts of money have to spread it around in different institutions in order to not lose it all if one of those institutions crashes. Remember, in the US your Bank deposits are only insured by the FDIC for up to 250,000.

Anyone who has any sense wants the best return on their investments, at this point Cayman pays a higher return then our measly 1-3% here in the US. Who wouldn't put it in Cayman bank if they could!

So, regardless of where he has it, makes his return on investment, he still has to pay taxes on that income & return, because he is a resident & citizen of the US.

First of all, you really need to know the difference between debt and deficit. He promised to get the DEFICIT, not the debt, cut in half, and that would equal around $700 billion. The ACA's costs are estimates; I don't recall Obama stating that they would be exactly $900 billion. And Obama DID reduce unemployment; from 10% to 8.2%. Slow, but reduced nonetheless.

Nor does Obama have to release his college records. However, considering the fact that Romney's own father urged for the release of more tax returns (and he did so himself), I would think that Romney ought to.

See here is the problem - Democrats have nothing to run on. Their policies have failed. The economy is getting worse. Obama has never run so much as a lemonade stand so knows nothing about how jobs are created, why businesses open/expand, how consumers make their income, etc. So Obama has failed in everything he has tried. GDP anemic. Unemployment rate higher over 8% with no sign of any improvement. 1 in 7 now on Food Stamps. A lower labor-participation rate. Highest % unemployed more than 6 months or more since the Great Depression.

According to your assumption, Obama knows nothing about the economy. Fair enough, here is my question: if Romney knows so much about how jobs are created, why is he proposing the EXACT same policies that failed the last time??? Tax cuts for the wealthy (failed); deregulation (epic fail); spending cuts (new, but another fail). And by the way, jobs are not created when taxes are low or when the wealthy have enough money. Jobs are created from the CONSUMER; when demand is high, businesses hire more people when they cannot handle the current level of demand. And the vast majority of consumers are middle and working class families; i.e. the job creators are the middle class, not the rich. Secondly, Obama has a lot of successes; the stimulus lifted us out of the recession, but it would have done a lot more had it been larger. Unemployment would be lower had states not fired public workers; or if Obama had drastically expanded the federal workforce (which he did not). The number on food stamps is only high because of the impact of the recession; if you want to end the reliance on government programs, you have to spend government money to create jobs, which Obama tried to do once again. And in case you haven't noticed, this is the BIGGEST RECESSION SINCE THE GREAT DEPRESSION; of course things are going to be as bad as they were during the Depression.

So a president that has had ANY success can simply look the american people in the eye and say "vote for me again because I did A, B, C, D, and E and my continued success in the next term will benefit everyone". But he can't say that. Nothing has been successful. The american people are frustrated with the incompetence of Obama and his administration.

Obama still has a lot of successes: healthcare reform; repealing DADT; credit-card regulation; re-regulating Wall Street; the stimulus; saving the auto industry. And if the American people were frustrated with Obama's incompetence, how come they still support him over Romney.

Mitt's father George Romney said that only one year's tax returns could be a "fluke." Like blind trusts, Romney knows full well that he is presenting a "fluke" because he, unlike any other politician in history, has money offshore including a Swiss bank account. The reason Romney did not accept pay as governor is the same reason he contributes speaking fees to charity -- Because EARNED INCOME would make him pay more than a 13% tax rate. As for 10% of the 19% he gives to charity, this is tithing the same as all Mormons pay. Unfortunately Mitt only learned the wrong things from his parents -- Who should have forced him to make his own way so that now he would be his own person.

Until the new CEO is properly applied and Approved as the CEO in all agencies and countries, as long as Romney has a consulting contract they can still use his name. I don't think they should do this unless the approval is in progress, but it is done. As long as Romney didn't submit the applications, that is Bain's problem, not his. They didn't make all the appropriate applications in a timely manner.

JimSpence, et al -- The Obama administration is not known for conspiracy theories -- that is a rightwing thing. If anything, the president is often too low-key and doesn't brag enough about what he has accomplished -- For example the immense amount of tax cuts he has passed.

When trying to determine if there is a grain of truth to something, you must consider the source and the track record of that source. Romney's propensity to lie is well documented. President Obama's, not so much. This is why I tend to think there may be something to this story--I am waiting for more proof, but compared to Birthers and other crap from the rightwing there's no comparison.

Just so you know I'm not blowing smoke, the one firm I worked for a few years ago was sold from the founders to a new team. Both were given a consulting contract.

This does several things. First, that eliminates the non-compete agreements that don't work well. Second, they could step in to assist on in process work they had sold to the new ownership.

Time came for some official Documents to be filed in Canada, but the new ownership could not gain approval in timely manner. In this instance the previous owner came back to the company on contract to submit the project.

I don't see the Bain issue as any different at this point, except that what Bain submitted did not require Romney's signature apparently.

See here is the problem - Democrats have nothing to run on. Their policies have failed. The economy is getting worse. Obama has never run so much as a lemonade stand so knows nothing about how jobs are created, why businesses open/expand, how consumers make their income, etc. So Obama has failed in everything he has tried. GDP anemic. Unemployment rate higher over 8% with no sign of any improvement. 1 in 7 now on Food Stamps. A lower labor-participation rate. So a president that has had ANY success can simply look the american people in the eye and say "vote for me again because I did A, B, C, D, and E and my continued success in the next term will benefit everyone". But he can't say that. Nothing has been successful. The american people are frustrated with the incompetence of Obama and his administration.

So what does Obama do? Try to find SOMETHING that can divert attention away from his incompetence. So how does Obama do that? Try to tell people "I may have been a catastrophe but Romney will be a bigger catastrophe"? THAT is your campaign? And how do you do that. Try to find SOMETHING on Romney. But there is nothing there so what do you do? Ask Romney to give you stuff that you can try to find SOMETHING (whether legitimate or made-up). So the answer is a resounding "NO"!! Republicans say to Obama run on your record and we are not going to supply you with information just for the purposes of your fishing expedition to try and make up something.

And the funny thing about tax returns, they would include the requisite 1099 forms reflecting the salaries and other remunerations paid to Mr. Romney for his SEC-declared corporate positions as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, President and sole stockholder of Bain Capital during the 4-years in question; 1999 to 2002.

So, either the statements made by Mr. Romney are untrue, OR the Bain Capital SEC filings are untrue. The former would simply be a regretable character flaw, while the latter would be felonies.

Further, if you sell your primary residence and your gain from the sale is less than the $250K/500K exclusion, the Medicare Tax will not apply. However, if your gain from the sale is over the exclusion, the 3.8% tax will apply to the gain if you’re a high income taxpayer.

I'm sure that all we have to do is go back and look at some of the emails and other computer records from when he was Governor in MA. That will settle things, and under the Freedom of Information Act they should be easy to get. This incessant whining about Romneys success and prosperity is amusing to all real Americans. The recent Gallup poll shows that 75% of Americans have no problem with Romneys wealth. This fits statistically as 41% of Americans are Conservative, 40% are Moderates and the remaining 20% are Liberal. Only the Liberal mind can perceive success as something bad. This is not unusual as they have obviously been underachievers and now must depend on society to provide basic human needs for them as they struggle with their insignificance.

But then again they choose symbolism over substance in most life decisions anyway.

I watch as they struggle so hard to create an image for Barrack Hussein that simply isn’t and won’t ever be. His term has been an abysmal failure in both policy and substance. So when Romney came into office, by definition, Massachusetts economy's resources were fully engaged in the production of output. This is one of the five economic goals and three macroeconomic goals. For Romney to take the unemployment number of 5.3% he inherited and bring it down to 4.7% exceeds 85% of most people’s ability. The volume of jobs created will be necessarily low as the economies production ability was already saturated.

What really surprises me is the apparent war on women that Barrack Hussein throws in the face of Liberal women. His obvious insult with his adolescent “Life of Julia” web site should outrage any independent woman. The hole was already there and it was dug by Bush. It started after 9/11, we went to war in Afghanistan and Bush failed to raise taxes. On top of this war spending was not put into discretionary spending figures but done straight from the budget (read as deficit spending). Next he even cut taxes, which any economist worth a grain of salt will tell you is very, very bad due to increase in spending from war but lack of increased revenue from taxes to cover that cost.

Next he started up Iraq. So now we are fighting two wars all the while taking a cut on taxes and piling on the debt. The straw that broke the camel's back was 2008. This was not directly Bush's fault. It started during the Clinton administration, possibly even before Clinton, when they forced banks to give out loans that had a low chance to be repaid. This part is entirely on the banks, they could have fought back against the order with lawsuits but they did not; they were apathetic and their apathy cost this nation dearly.

Bush did however pass some deregulation legislation during this tenure for the financial industry that did continue to allow the practice to grow. 2008 was like a bullet train hitting a steel wall at 60k/h and that is when our hole bottomed out. We have been slowly digging our way out and it has been and will continue to be painful no matter who is elected in November.

However there is also the fact that the House has been digging tunnels underneath this hole and causing secondary collapses of the ramp we have been trying to build since 2008. They do this by adding inane things that will never make it past a democratic Senate like Keystone and other Right Wing agenda based items. If the House would vote on and pass a jobs bill with no riders, that was a common sense plan to get people back to work through contracts, Democrats would jump on board.

That is not their goal though. Any major improvement in the economy is going to reflect on Obama, hurting Republican chances in winning Congress seats and the White House in November. So instead they want to stall. By admission McConnel, Cantor, and Gingrich got together on Jan 21st 08 and said their first priority was to make sure that Obama was not re-elected even if it meant damaging the economy.

Not all Republican's want this though, there are sensible congress members like Snowe (former Senate member [I believe] for Maine) who want what is best for the country their political party be damned. That is the attitude we need, people who could give a damn if their party is in control or not, people who care more about the country then their petty party BS. People that are willing to put aside party ideology, to forget about deregulation or saving social security, and work with each other and compromise and find a real solution.

The country cannot wait for our immature idiots in Congress (all parties) to get the picture, parties do not matter we are all Americans and we all want what is best for the country as a whole, not a single person or group of people.

Okay, first of all the $16 trillion debt could have been reduced to nothing had Bush raised taxes, cut spending, and repaid the debt. At the very least, he could have paid enough interest to keep the absolute value of the debt constant while the economy grew. And the real total of unfunded liabilities totals about $62 trillion. And that can be paid off over the next 30 to 50 years. And by the way, those entitlements are far below the total value of cumulative GDP for the next few decades. We can easily change those programs to make them more fiscally sound.

Technically, we could just go enact the Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction plan and keep growing the economy with short-term stimulus. You're looking at it the wrong way. I look at it more in the range of the cumulative deficits over the next decade, which are about $7 trillion. $850 billion of that is roughly 15%; not a whole lot, but it sure helps. I would prefer to let the Bush tax cuts expire completely, reform the tax code while raising some rates and adding more brackets, cut defense spending, and reduce the costs of entitlements with healthcare reform (Medicare for all and reduction of waste and other unnecessary payments, for starters), revenue increases, and cuts to outlays.

And by the way, Romney will do none of this. He will just cut taxes, bankrupt the country, and ruin the economy through deregulation and policies that only favor the rich.

Once the economy recovers and people are able to earn more, than tax credits need to be ended like the child credit and even mortgage credit. Ending tax credits is preferable to raising tax rates.

The fact is Bush was only in the Texas Air National Guard because his daddy used his influence to get him that posting and avoid being drafted for Viet Nam. First, let's get something straight about Bain Capital. This is a company that specializes in buying distressed companies for fire sale prices and turning that investment inot a profit. That is what they do. If any jobs are created as a result, they are created coincidentally. That is not the objective of Bain Capital. They are in the profit making business period. EVERY SINGLE prosperous country has a high tax rate and EVERY SINGLE country with a low tax rate is a 3rd world country.

Prosperity comes from security and reliability of one's relationship with one's community, and the reliability of the relationship is maintained through payment of taxes. It is as simple as that.

By and large, he's reduced taxes greatly.

But apparently, reducing taxes means he's trying to 'divide Americans and destroy America as we know it.' Even when they say that reducing taxes is what he wants.

While I agree with most of what you posted not all the companies Bain bought, raped and discarded were distressed. KBtoys for example was a viable profitable company that Bain took over loaded with debt and drove into bankruptcy after off course pulling out their profits.

Staples will likely be the next to go under. Our local store here is closing. Their parking lot is always empty because they are higher than anybody else in town on just about everything, especially computer accessories, and they are always conveniently "out of stock" of the lower priced item in whatever you are looking for. I stopped going in there a couple of years ago. I got tired of leaving the store frustrated and empty handed. Yes much is to the LDS church. The lds church has camps for kids (free). They have church dances and refreshments free. When they do performances the tickets are free. Many organizations pass their disaster assistance through the LDS network because 100% of the donations go to the disaster victims and the church organizes the labor and pays transportation costs. He donated his inheritance to Brigham Young University. They educate students worldwide and provide opportunities for students to return to their home country debt free with an Education.

The nonsense that he spouted for two minutes before that, that Andrea Mitchell didn't show, is an indictment of how poorly both Mr Romney and his audience understands the functioning of the society they find themselves in. Mr Romney's logic is flawed in two different dimensions. First, the Federal government competes, of course, it competes with other countries. I am not sure why it is such a big deal as to when Mr Romney left Bain. Has he denounced Bain's outsourcing and dismantling of companies after he left? Does he still benefit from Bain's work? Does he have a problem with making money off outsourcing?

On Wednesday night, MSNBC host Ed Schultz asked NAACP Washington Bureau Director Hilary Shelton which “African American leaders” Romney was referring to.

“The campaign actually gave me a list of African American VIPs that they brought in to the NAACP meeting,” Shelton explained. “So, I’m sure those are the one they set down with because, quite frankly, none of the rank-and-file NAACPers met with him.”

“He’s talking about African American Republican politicians that were actually brought in — flown in — to the NAACP convention in Houston, Texas to be there for the [candidate] alone,” he added.

“That means that Mitt Romney rigged the crowd to support him there so he could go on TV and say, ‘You know, actually I got a lot of support among African American leaders,’” Schultz noted.

“Apparently, that’s what the case is,” Shelton agreed. “They are bringing people in that they know will support his agenda from other places that aren’t active with the NAACP. These are people that were actually brought in to provide the cheering for him so there will be some support for him along those lines.”

First, Romney has not filed his 2011 Return, so it would be hard to know if it was "winked" out of existence. He filed an Extension, which is not due until Oct 15th and no extension will give you that detailed information. If the media "noticed" the Swiss Bank Account on his 2010 Return then it wasn't hidden from the IRS. If Obama's campaign notice foreign investments its not hidden. If it was "hidden" then it wouldn't have been on the return!!! 2010 Return shows that he received a Foreign Tax credit. If you review each IRS Form 1116 Foreign Tax credit, he received a credit because he paid, in some circumstances, Taxes in the foreign country where the investment was held. The IRS rules give a credit for a percentage of those taxes paid to foreign countries. But he still pays US income tax on income from the investments.

Again, 2011 tax return is not done, he paid an "estimated" tax. Then since you don't know how to read a return. Their Taxable income was 17.1 million and his taxes due were 3.01 million. That is 17.6% income tax rate after deductions. He also throughout the year had Self employment taxes (% rate 2x what you pay in SS&Med. His 13.3%, yours 5.65%), Unemployment taxes to MA which was probably around 3% of the gross wages he paid and Ann had the employee's portion 0.6% on her wages. Federal Unemployment rate 0.6% on wages paid. Then he had two Schedule C, which shows a business profit. Since he owns the businesses, he paid 35% tax on those net profits. That's not counting his State & Local Taxes he paid personally and for the business.

He paid 1.369 million over what he owed in 2009, in 2010 he was still overpaid by 1.609 million. So the IRS has had HIS money that they pay no interest on for a long period of time. My bet is he also overpaid on 2011, so they still have HIS money and pay no interest on it.

This is why such nonsense gets reported, because they know individuals reading it don't have a clue as to what they are looking at nor do they bother to research it and just take it at its word because some person from their party says its so. Romney pays enough taxes he doesn't need to pay anymore. No one needs to pay more, certainly not until our political officials in DC cut their wasteful spending.

When Romney stepped down he appointed the people he groomed to take over this company to run in the same style as he did. On the Bain 1999-2002 issue, I keep reading stories about this and I think the sides are talking past each other. I'm getting something like this: In 1999, Mitt Romney left the day-to-day operations of Bain. Bain does not say he had no interest after that, just that he wasn't involved in making any decisions. Since Romney was the big guy who had started the whole venture and ran it until 1999, it would make sense that he transitioned out of his ownership and on paper titles, such as CEO. The reality is that he stated in his Mass. filings that he was a passive, limited partner by 2002. He could have had all kinds of titles but if he did not ACTUALLY exercise the authority under them, then he would have been a passive owner. I know this may sound strange, but I've seen things like this in smaller companies as they transition. It really isn't a big deal but trying to explain that someone can be "on paper" in control or having titles while not running the show is something that just seems to hurt too many people's heads. There is nothing wrong as long as there were no material misrepresentations to shareholders or the SEC wasn't lied to. I am yet to read anything that says that there is real evidence of that having happened. I've read all kinds of hysterical comments here and on other sites. I'm still waiting for a real issue to arise other than the Obama White House using it's governing resources as political messaging resources.

13 years of the same lie. Here we have a prestigious Harvard Graduate that can't prove any law was broken. In fact in all the court cases so far It has been little contest. Bain bought companies and fired the losers that made it fail. A few innocents may have suffered but I doubt it was many. Every company, liberal or not, does the same thing when they buy other companies. Especially failing ones. In fact I've seen liberal companies drive a $27 stock to $3 by launching brand new, untested billing systems two years in a row in November. Then when sales talks came up the denied we were for sale and gave themselves stocks. Then low and behold we were up for sale. A business making $250,000 or more in a year is not a "small business." That is 5 times the median income of the the average wage earner. A return of the tax rates to the level they were at when the GOP decided to cut revenue in order to cut the size of government to the point where they could "drown it in a bathtub" is not a bad thing.

Funny thing about tax rates, if you look at actual tax rates and the unemployment and general economic conditions from a historic perspective you find that the longest period of sustained growth and full employment occurred from the end of WWII through the resignation of Nixon. The top personal income tax rates were well over 80%, and corporate rates over 50%. At the same time, unemployment rates were fairly steady and economic growth generally sustained.

Since the advent of the GOP "piss on the US" trickle down economic theory begun under Ronald Reagan, economic growth has been stagnant and unemployment reached into double digits for the first time since the great depression. The reality is, tax cuts don't create jobs, just the opposite is true.

In that case, I would be able to deduct all my expenses as corporations do. I will be able to deduct: electricity, heating expense, food, all upkeep on my home (thereby hiring landscapers, house cleaners, etc and creating jobs), automobile insurance and cost of said auto, entertainment of those invited to my home, etc, etc. Get the picture?

Corporations are ARTIFICIAL people, or rather 'legal entities'. By definition, corporation must be organized with MORE than one owner, though ownership may devolve to a single shareholder. Corporations are formed for many reasons: creating an effective financial mass, exploiting the economies of scale, limiting individual exposure to risk or liability, securing independent credit, etc. All shareholders surrender day-to-day control of their investment to the corporation's management. Instead, they elect a Board of Directors which may then hire and fire the management team, thus directing the operation of the business and its business interests. Through their large voting blocks in Director elections, large or majority investors can influence the Directors and/or place their people on the Board.

Romney's position at Bain is not unique, it can be seen at Ford, at the old Standard Oil, at US Steel, at Westinghouse, and other household name corporations. What is unique is that Romney was not just a founder and major shareholder, he was the ONLY shareholder. As such, he picked the Board of Directors and the management team (he was actually on both). And being in that position, he effectively managed Bain Capital.

Oddly, if there was any reality to those claims I would have thought that Congress and the Supreme Court would have been involved, especially since the Bush administration had over six months to investigate these claims, with real investigators (US Marshals, the FBI, and the Secret Service). Your statement is quite confusing. Let me explain what is wrong with your statement. There are two types of Corporations, a C-Corp & a S-Corp. Neither of these two are taxed the same. An Individual is not taxed the same as either one of these Corps. If they were there would be no need to have Corps. C-Corps are the ones that get hit with the higher tax rate. Very few small businesses are C-Corps.

Most Small businesses are S-Corps and the reason they are recommended by their CPA to become S-Corps is to avoid Self-employment taxes. Self employment taxes are SS&Medicare taxes which include both the normal employee & employer portion together.

Here is hopefully a very simple example. Let’s say you have two self-employed people, Jack & Jill. Their businesses make the same "net" profits of $60,000 last year ($5,000/month). The only difference is that Jack is a Sole Proprietorship (self-employed) and Jill is an S-Corporation.

There is no difference between Jack and his business. They are one and the same. Therefore he has to pay self-employment taxes (Social Security + Medicare) of 13.3% on the entire $60,000 annual net profit which would be $7980. He also must pay federal income taxes on that net profit.

Jill on the other hand is a separate entity, she incorporated. As an employee, she just assigns herself a “reasonable salary” as required by the IRS. So she pays herself $4000/month. As the corporation shareholder, she owns a business with $5,000/month overall profits, but also pays out $4,000 for her monthly salary. That means $1,000 per month is not paid out as salary, and can be distributed to the shareholders (her) as dividends, or unearned income.

At tax time, Jill gets $48,000 a year in earned income as an employee, and $12,000 in S-Corp distributions as a shareholder. You only pay self-employment taxes on earned income which is her $48,000. She also must pay federal income taxes, the same amount as Jack. So as an S-Corp, Jill paid $1,596 a year less than Jack in taxes.

S-Corporation are a pass-through entity, which means all the profits of the corporation pass through directly to the shareholders’ tax returns. S-Corps do not pay corporate income taxes.

Jack & Jill do have to pay Federal Income Tax on their Net Profits, so if the taxes go up for individuals making $250,000, then it will hit the majority of small businesses who are S-Corps on their personal Federal Taxes, but they still receive the self-employment (ss&med) tax break. So when Obama's team says only 3% of small businesses will be affected, they are not telling the truth. Every small business, self-employed or S-corps making $250,000 net profit will be affected by these tax hikes they are proposing.

C-Corps will taxation is structured very differently so the raise in taxes will not change their taxation structure or the amount they would owe since net profits are treated differently and the C-Corp files a tax return and pays corporate taxes. S-Corp pays no corporate taxes. Both types of corporations, shareholders' personal income tax is due both on any salary drawn from the corporation and from any dividends/distributions received from the corporation.

Because he made that money by investing in companies based in those locations. If he wants to draw that money as income for personal use he will have to pay US income taxes when he does. But if he re-invests it he doesn't. This is the same for investments made in the US.

The reason Romney's money is in off shore bank accounts is because they are in blind trusts and he does not control where the money is invested or where the accounts are set up. That is what a blind trust does.

Blind trusts are used to manage investments within a profile so an official cannot be accused of a connection to any specific activities with them.

This isn't a portfolio with Romney as someone with money invested in various places and Bain being one of them. He could never have been blind to knowing how many shares he owned in Bain and how they were doing. Any statement claiming he was inactive really doesn't hold water. And he claims he was a "Limited Partner". Who were the other partners if he held all the stock? That doesn't sound limited at all. Romney was still at the helm, but claims to technically not be associated with any of the business. I don't think the public at large will buy that technicality any more than I do. This will be an issue he can't hide from or talk around without it inviting more media investigation into this and more.

Just like everything else he does, Romneycare's assertion that he was CEO, President, and sole shareholder of Bain Capital yet had no involvement with the company for 3 years is insulting to our intelligence (those that understand what a baldface lie is).

He skated through years of private school, and the most difficult thing he ever did was hold that gay kid down and cut his hair off with scissors. They he *says* he quit Bain Capital in 1999, but remained with the company for 3 more years. When he got caught in that lie, he said that he never quit Bain at all, but took a leave of absence. He supposedly fixed the SLC Olympics, but after the scandal broke, could he have milked that situation any more? His second stint at living off the public sector resulted in Massachusetts losing jobs at twice the national rate. Only three other states had a worse record of job creation, and if it wasn't for Katrina, there would only have been two.
Romneycare badly wants to distance himself from the vulture capital game he played, but he covered his tracks poorly. That's what happens when you trade your principles for money. One company was Chinese Global-Tech which Bain is a large shareholder. Billions in profits as Mitt a large shareholder had to put his profits off shore to keep from reporting this conflict on his US taxes. After successfully getting away with that it was easy. The dates show the crime and now Mitt will need to ask the voters to set aside his crime and vote for him as President and he will promise not to do it again. The Religious Leaders forgave Mitt for his large profit investment in Sterlcycle Medical Waste which disposes of fetuses. Yes Mitt is first a businessman who knows how to make big profits but he just wants the title of President.
