GOP frets about swing state toll on Romney from Bain attacks

Republicans are beginning to look with trepidation at the Obama campaign’s all-out effort to turn Mitt Romney’s business experience into a political liability, particularly in corners of the country that could decide the November election.

President Obama's campaign is claiming Mitt Romney outsourced jobs to China and Mexico during his time at Bain Capital. But is this an effective strategy for the president? NBC News' Chuck Todd and the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson join the conversation.

President Barack Obama’s team has relentlessly blanketed the airwaves in specific states – like Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania – looking to prime swing voters who might be susceptible to fret over suggestions that Romney had contributed to the growth in outsourcing jobs overseas during his time at Bain Capital.

Republicans, including Romney, dismiss the ads as a distortion and a distraction from the president’s own record on the economy. But some in the GOP worry these attacks could take their toll and prove effective unless action is taken.

Charles Dharapak / AP

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's business experience may become a political liability in the November election.

“As a baseless charge, this is something that can potentially be dispelled,” said former Pennsylvania Rep. Phil English, a Republican who represented the blue collar town of Erie. “But if the Romney campaign does not aggressively engage it and address it directly, I think they could suffer, potentially, a significant loss of voters.”

The Obama campaign’s line of attack versus Romney found its origin in the Republican primary, when Romney’s opponents charged him with perpetuating “vulture capitalism” during his time at Bain Capital. They pushed him to release years’ worth of tax returns, which the Obama campaign is now demanding as well.

Video: First Read Minute: Two key battlegrounds

Though the Obama campaign endured a measure of friendly fire from Democrats (who questioned the wisdom of attacking Romney’s private sector career) since it revived these attacks for the general election campaign, they largely haven’t let up in their scrutiny of Romney’s Bain record.

"Outsourcing versus insourcing. It matters," one of the Obama campaign's ads says, flashing pictures of Romney and Obama, respectively.

They were handed an additional piece of ammunition by a Washington Post article labeling Bain a “pioneer” in the practice of outsourcing while Romney was in charge. The Obama campaign has spent millions on advertising trumpeting that claim, disregarding the nonpartisan group FactCheck.org’s research that the underlying assertion was untrue.

“This is not dissimilar to the stuff Sherrod Brown ran against me in '06, but the difference is the climate,” said Mike DeWine, the former Republican senator from Ohio who lost his bid for re-election in the 2006 Democratic wave election.

DeWine, who now serves as Ohio’s attorney general, switched his support from Romney to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum during the GOP presidential primary, partly because he felt that Santorum would do a better job connecting with middle class voters.

“I don't know who's going to win, but this year is not '06,” he continued. “It remains to be seen whether they work in '12 or not.”

There are signs, though, that the Obama campaign’s attacks have had an effect. Forty-two percent of registered voters in a Washington Post/ABC News poll released Tuesday said they think Romney’s work as a corporate investor did more to cut jobs, versus 36 percent who said it was more directed toward creating jobs.

Recommended: First Thoughts: The importance of Colorado and Iowa

Strikingly, the poll also found that twice as many voters in swing states said that Romney’s business career was a major reason to oppose him than those who said it’s a major reason to support.

Republicans originally found success in using this line of attack versus Romney as recently as this year. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry pummeled Romney over his business record and personal wealth leading into the South Carolina primary, contributing, in part, to Romney’s loss in that contest.

Katon Dawson, a longtime figure in South Carolina Republican politics who spearheaded Perry’s campaign there, said he didn’t expect Obama to find much success in using this tactic.

“If it didn't stick in the Republican primary, it's not going to work in the general,” he said. “There's no way they're going to blame Mitt Romney for a member of their family being out of work.”

English said he distinguished between the attacks on Romney’s wealth and personal background from the Obama campaign’s claims about outsourcing. The latter, he said, had the potential to be much more potent in pivotal Midwestern states.

“I think you have to answer ads with ads,” he said. “There’s a tendency by Republicans to assume the truth will catch up. I think there is a naive quality to Republican thinking that they don't have to answer these charges.”

“I think the rule in politics is to be on offense, and he’s got to be on offense, not defense,” DeWine said.

Republicans are quick to note, too, that Romney has plenty of time to do just that. They praise Romney’s organization and the tenacity of the candidate himself. DeWine noted that most Ohioans have been more tuned into the Fourth of July and recent weather than the presidential election. And Dawson said that conservatives are more mobilized behind Romney than ever, after the Supreme Court issued its decision upholding the president’s health care reform law.

But the president’s own bus tour last week provided some clues about where Team Obama thinks the election could be won or lost. The stops through northern Ohio and western Pennsylvania cut through many of the areas where economic anxiety is near its peak; these areas were among the hardest hit by the downturn in manufacturing, and the loss of jobs to overseas labor.

“They're going after the swing voter,” Dawson said of the Obama campaign’s strategy. “This game is going to be played out among 9-12 million people in the places that put Republicans back in charge in 2010.”

That sentiment underscores a reality that the Obama campaign has tailored its attacks against Romney to both play to voters they desperately need to win, while also exploiting what they think to be a vulnerability of Romney’s.

“Every candidate has strengths and weaknesses, and if it were another candidate, I guess Democrats would be doing something else,” said DeWine.

Mitt Romney should know what a "kick in the gut" is as he did it directly to 10's of thousands while he was heading (CEO) Bain Capital – putting them out of work without their pensions, health care or even a severance package.

Shame on you Mitt Romney

Translated: "If voters figure out what Romney is really like we are screwed."

If it were a "baseless charge" then it wouldn't resonate with the swing-state voters like it does. They are starting to see through the fog to the real Romney.

Plus, if it were a baseless charge the Republicans would file a copyright infringment lawsuit, they hold exclusive rights to using "baseless charges" against opponents!

“There’s a tendency by Republicans to assume the truth will catch up."

What-what? The whole Republican philosophy since Reagan has been to repeat lies often enough that they will be accepted as truth. This is the party who brought us "welfare queens", "trickle down", "entitlement society", "compassionate conservatism" - I could go on and on.

Mitt provided John McCain 17 years of tax returns as a VP possibility but will only allow the American people (voters) to see one year (2010) plus a provisional return for 2011.

More evidence that Republicans will give Romney a pass on providing all the information provided by all modern Presidential candidates and after all the complaints that Senator Obama wasn’t fully vetted.

Never mind the fact that a couple of years ago when asked about blind trust, Romney said they were a ruse. A ruse that people used to pretend they didn't know about their trust. Romney said this before he was planning on using the blind trust as an excuse.

Couple that with the fact that while governor, Romney thought that outsourcing jobs to India was the thing to do as his job creation record went from 37th to 47th. He was not concerned about jobs, he was only concerned about the cost so he could pass the savings on as tax cuts for the richest.

Then the rich who can't be asked to invest in America and jobs, are being asked by the republicans for hundreds of millions of dollars of donations to convince you to vote for their tax cuts and against the economy of America.

Are you smart enough to see through the republicans con games?

I guess all is fair in love and politics.

This is the first time in the History of the Republic that the Democratic process has been for SALE. We have the Republican Supreme court to thank for this mess via the Citizens United decision. Believe in America by Mitt Romney at www.mittromney.com

Mitt Romney will "raise the visa cap to allow the 1.25 million high skilled jobs currently available to be filled by highly-educated immigrants. This will stimulate the economy and create support jobs for Americans."

Mitt Romney will "attach a green card to the diploma of every immigrant graduate with a degree in math, science, or engineering."

Mitt Romney will sign "Trans-Pacific Partnership to open up markets in Asia and create jobs for Americans." Like NAFTA, but Asia.

If that's not a conservative Republican plan, what is?

I would think that as a Red Sox fan who claims to hate liars you would be particularly upset about Mitt Romney lying about being there at Fenway Park when the Red Sox won their first World Series in 80+ years.

Romney told an Air Force pilot he was there at Fenway Park when the Red Sox won the World Series against the Cardinals.

Two problems with that story: One, he was actually in New Hampshire campaiging for GW Bush. Two, as any true Red Sox fan would know Game Four of that particular World Series was in St. Louis......

RedSox,

about your CT SSN claim: this is from the SS Administration (link provided to an actual scan of the letter)STOP LISTENING TO FAUX!

One should not make too much of the "geographical code." It is not meant to be any kind of useable geographical information. The numbering scheme was designed in 1936 (before computers) to make it easier for SSA to store the applications in our files in Baltimore since the files were organized by regions as well as alphabetically. It was really just a bookkeeping device for our own internal use and was never intended to be anything more than that.

Most likely, this was due to a clerical error. At the time, President Obama was only 15 years old, and lived with his grandparents in an address on Beretania Street. The President’s house in Hawaii was in zip code 96814 and the zip code for Danbury, CT. is 06814. Since the '0' and '9' on a typical typewriter are immediately adjacent (remember, the president's Social Security number was issued in 1977, before the age of computers), it would have been a common error to accidently type a '0' when the ZIP code really began with a '9'. Another possibility is that President Obama, a left-handed 15 year old boy at the time, may have written his own ZIP code in a less-than-fully-legible manner, making the '9' look somewhat like a '0'.

In a letter to Investigator Susan Daniels, the Social Security Adminiatration said (ADDED 6/6/2012):

Dear Ms. Daniels:

This letter is in response to your letter to Commissioner Astrue concerning President Obama's Social Security Records.

After reviewing the information you provided, we disagree with your conclusion that a person's Social Security number depends upon the address of residence. Furthermore, we do not have information related to your question regarding the numbering of Selective Service forms. Please direct questions regarding a Selective Service form (SSS form 3B) to the Selective Service System.

Sincerely,

/s/
Frank Biro
Acting Associate Commissioner
Office of Public Inquiries

In any event, there is no evidence whatever that President Obama's Social Securiy number was obtained by fraud

Good, they have reason to fret. Here's some more info on what private equity firms are trying to do on behalf of Romney -- PLAY KINGMAKER

FORTUNE -- As he gears up for the final stretch in the marathon that is the Republican nomination campaign, Mitt Romney has no shortage of eminent financiers to call on -- for advice or money. Billionaire hedge fund titans such as Julian Robertson of Tiger Management, Louis Bacon of Moore Capital, and John Paulson of Paulson & Co. have all lined up behind the front-runner. Steve Schwarzman, the co-founder of private equity giant Blackstone (BX), recently held a high-level fundraiser for Romney at his Park Avenue apartment. Romney's old friends at Bain Capital, the buyout firm he co-founded in 1984, have also been generous in their support. But perhaps none of Romney's Wall Street supporters will be more crucial to the candidate's success, or have more influence on his thinking, than Paul Singer.

Singer is the founder of a $19 billion hedge fund called Elliott Management. And he has a well-earned reputation as one of the smartest and toughest money managers in the business. Over the past 35 years Singer, 67, has produced an extraordinary 14% average annual return after fees, nearly double the price appreciation of the S&P 500 (SPX). He's achieved that record in large part by buying the debt of bankrupt companies and nations -- a strategy that has earned him considerable opprobrium in some circles. His firm, which is engaged in a costly, protracted legal war with Argentina over its defaulted sovereign debt, is so influential that fear of its tactics helped shape the current Greek debt restructuring. Among the sophisticated investors who have placed their confidence in Singer is Mitt Romney himself. According to Romney's financial disclosures, the trust managing his more than $200 million fortune has at least $1 million invested with Elliott.

Romney wants your money to pay for his tax breaks under the Ryan Plan that he supports. Romney has NO PLAN for anything but to support the Ryan plan that makes the middle class pay for Romneys tax breaks.

Once more repubs , take a look at what the Ryan plan does to destroy the middle class.

From: dpcc.sen.gov Romney supports this disaster Ryan plan

Republicans have claimed that their tax plan would renew the expiring Bush tax cuts and reduce tax rates even further without increasing the deficit, all by getting rid of unspecified "loopholes" in the tax code. But a new analysis by the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) shows that Republican math simply doesn't add up. The new JEC report shows that the Republican tax plan would actually necessitate a $1,300 tax increase on average middle-class families to pay for a tax cut of over $285,000 for each millionaire.

The Republican tax plan would cost a total of $10 trillion - $5.4 trillion to extend the expiring Bush tax cuts, and according to the Tax Policy Center an additional $4.6 trillion to lower the top tax rate to 25%. Republicans have refused to name any of the specific "loopholes" they would repeal to cover the huge price tag of lowering taxes on the rich, and the JEC report explains why. In order to make their tax plan revenue neutral, Republicans would have to eliminate nearly every deduction and credit in the tax code, including those that mainly benefit middle-class families.

JEC's report shows that because Republicans would do away with middle class deductions, even with lower tax rates the Republican plan would amount to a net middle class tax increase.

The American people overwhelmingly oppose giving millionaires more tax breaks at the expense of the middle class. Republicans should work with Democrats to pay down our deficit in a balanced way that will create jobs here in America and ask the wealthiest to pay their fair share again.

Biggest problem for Romney is that he HAS A RECORD, and at least in MA, people know the sort of govenor he was. And his record as govenor, such as wrt how many jobs he created vs outsourced should be a subject of debate. The sort of govenor he was would have EVERYTHING to do with the sort of president he'd be, certainly on domestic matters. The govenor's office in a state, is not THAT FAR removed from the role as US President if you take foreign affairs (doesn't enter into the individual state's domain) out of the equation....

But here is where the nature of politicians comes into it. Romney runs against Obama-care, and says some stuff following the Supreme Court decision. Only problem, what is it about the MA healthcare law, and an individual mandate in MA? Sometimes actions speak louder then words, and one can be expected (quite reasonably) to remain consistent to their own past behavior, in some form or another. So uh yeah, what was that about practicing what one preaches, and putting their money where their mouth is? It's nice to speak of caring about what the voter thinks, but looks totally insincere when the words, don't match or hold consistency to past actions.... In that, the actions should be given more weight then the words, and expectations should fall along with what a person did, not so much with what they are saying, conviently, and while advertising themselves for a campaign....

My respect for Factcheck.org has slid down since I read their objections to the Romney out-sourcing ad. Fact check loves to have it both ways, and still come out favoring the Republicans:

We have written extensively about Bain Capital’s modus operandi with Romney at the helm. And we have documented instances in which Bain enriched itself and its investors with hefty fees and dividend payments that left companies heavily in debt and vulnerable to bankruptcy. The New York Times on June 22 found that in some cases, even when companies went bankrupt and hundreds of employees got laid off, Bain managed to make money on its investments

http://factcheck.org/2012/06/obamas-outsourcer-overreach/

AND YET They object to an ad attacking Romney's record at Bain?

It may only be July, but the Presidential campaign has been in full swing for months in the battleground, swing states. Voters in these states will decide the election and so have been getting plenty of attention from the campaigns. Obama has dumped almost $50 million in advertising in these states, three-fourths of which have been negative attacks on Romney. Romney has spent only about $16 million, an almost 3-1 disadvantage. Yet, yesterday'sUSAToday/Gallup battleground poll showed that GOP voters in these states have become more enthusiastic about voting since the campaign began. Tell me again how those Bain attacks are working?

Overall 46% of voters in swing states report feeling extremely or very enthusiastic about voting in November. This is slightly higher than nationally, where 43% of voters report feeling extremely or very enthusiastic. However, among those who are "extremely" enthusiastic, a clear divide is emerging:

However, voters in swing states who support Romney for president are more likely than those backing Obama to say they feel "extremely enthusiastic" about voting -- 31% to 23%. The same pattern is seen by party, with 32% of Republicans in the swing states and 25% of Democrats reporting extreme enthusiasm.

Interestingly, in Gallup's May Battleground poll, supporters of Obama and Romney expressed equal levels of "extreme" enthusiasm about voting. As the campaign as unfolded in the swing states, Romney's supporters have become more enthusiastic than Obama's. Remember, this is after Romney has been outspent 3-1. What happens when the spending become 1-1?

Nationally, supporters of Obama and Romney continue to report equal levels of enthusiasm. Its only in the swing states that there as been the shift in enthusiasm towards Romney. This is important, because the campaigns have only really been engaged in the swing states. And, where the campaigns have been engaged, the numbers seem to be shifting towards Romney.

This is also important because many of these swing states feature important down-ballot contest for House and Senate. There are at least 7 competitive Senate races in these swing states. If the GOP maintains his enthusiasm edge through November, it could be another very big night for Republicans.

I am still waiting for a plan from Romney. When are Rove and Norquist going to tell Romney what his plans are? In the meantime I will repost the only known plan of Romney.

Let's take a look at the Romney plan

Romney has a long term plan alright...and that plan is not to have a plan, and to not talk about his plan of not having a plan, because every plan that Romney planned, was not the plan, that he previously had planned. The plans he did have were also the plans he did not have before he said they are his plans. The plans he didn't have were the plans he said he had when he needed to have plans because he had no plans.

President Obama/Biden 2012....you can plan on that

Amy, your respect for Factcheck.org slid because they revealed the outsourcing ads as false...when they are false? There is no proof that any jobs were transferred from the US to China, Mexico, etc. How are they favoring Republicans? Just because they write negative facts about Romney in your quote above doesn't mean they should also support an ad that lies about other Bain activities under Romney.

You can object to Romney's record at Bain, but why lie about the reasons you object?

The Bain ads have been proven FALSE. More LIES. Obama and his team are going to have to start to really dig deep for contributions because this contest hasn't really begun to spend money yet. It is kind of funny how all the pundits were saying that Obama would probably spend $1 billion on his re-election this year and everybody was fine with it. Then his money hasn't really come in and now the libbies are screaming that Romney's going to buy this election. Didn't Obama buy his election 4 years ago???

Romney saying that Obama apologized for America is also a lie. So is the "fact" that Obama has increased the debt more than any other president in America's history. The last one is on Mitt Romney's own campaign website. You want to talk about lies??? Make sure your candidate is clean first.

Secondly, Obama would have raised that money through FUNDRAISERS, not Super-Pacs. Romney is making much of his money from Super-Pacs. The Koch Brothers pledged to spend $400 million on the entire campaign, along with Karl Rove's $300 million and Sheldon Adelson's $100 million. Does it seem fair that four people are spending $800 million in one election cycle???

There are three things about Romney that are deadly to undecided voters:

1) Bain Capital was "arbitrageurs" --- they used the assets of companies to buy the companies and then took the assets as Bain profits and let the companies go into bankruptcy. If you want a case study look at Toys R' Us. What this caused that was worse than anything was for businesses to stop keeping "rainy day" funds to carry them through "down" business cycles. When the Bush Depression hit, this cause companies to lay off more people more quickly than they should have. And it kept them from re-hiring as quickly as they should have. This was far worse than the offshoring of jobs and the layoffs they caused because they caused hundreds of thousands of people to be laid off in companies they never touched.

2) Something is extremely fishy about Romney's Bermuda holdings. There is something there that the GOP desparately does not want discovered. Prominbent Republicans, including Graham and McCain are leaning on the Brtish government to lean on the Governor of Bermuda to refuse to release any information about Romney/Bain holdings in Bermuda. Given the amount of effort that is going into this and the amount of political capital being spent to keep it quiet ..... where there's smoke, there's fire. This could be the one issue that kills Romney's thin chances of winning.

3) Karl Rove said, "A candidate's religion is fair game." But the GOP does not want people discussing that Romney is NOT a Christians. If you think that Mormons (LDS) are Christians, ask your pastor/minister/priest. They will tell you that ALL Christians accept the Nicene Creed as the definitive statement of beliefs. Mormons DO NOT accept the Nicene Creed. This is being discussed pretty openly from pulpits in churches, especially in the South. It will not cause very many people to vote against Romney, but it will cause a lot of them to stay home and not vote.

The current odds for Nov 6th are 67.3% of Obama winning and 32.8% of Romney winning.

Can anyone explain why, anyone in the "middle class" would vote for Mitt Romney?

One can pile up every negative accusation against President Obama and it would NEVER equal the facts against Mitt. Mitt does not know work. He has been privileged all his life and the softness of his hands will prove his lack of concern for real workers. Workers his happily ruined by ridding their jobs, to make huge profits for Bain Capital and their investors.

My brother-in-law is a prime example, of the ignorance, of pro Romney ideals. He feels, President Obama wants, to take his right to bare arms away! Another acquaintance of mine, believes President Obama is not an American and is affiliated with the Muslims. I remind that person, Muslim is a religion, just like Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, etc.

The problem with the logic mentioned about is they are not true facts and eveen if they were, it is their arguments are only on fraction, of what our President needs to address.

I am not sure if these people are iliterate of ill-informed. At any rate, President Obama is the United States only hope for getting us out of this financial and joblessness state we are in. As a middle class American, I believe in President Obama.

I just hope those who are leaning toward the Mitt, will look at the facts regarding Mitt's loyalty to his wealthy friends. Mitt is has no idea what it is like to work for a living; struggle to pay bills or put food on the table. He has never wanted for anything except, the Presidency! What a huge mistake it would be, if the middle class, who believe Mitt is the answer, voted for him, based on his lies and misleading talking points.

I find it interesting to think about how today's left-wing lunatics so intensely despise any American that has been successful.

I wonder what they think of our fore-fathers such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Both of which were successful, well-to-do businessmen of their day. Both born into 'rich' families. Both plantation owners and even SLAVE owners! Both aristocrats of their day.

Given the attitudes of the left and their disdain for the 'RICH', would either Washington or Jefferson have a chance at the presidency? I think not.

This country once rewarded hard working, successful individuals for their efforts. Now, those individuals are simply TARGETS for angry, lazy, under-achievers to hiss at.

That is WHY President Obama has the BIG chair boys. ;]

Bain is nothing more then a Mob Bust out firm legalized. They overburden already failing companies in a lot of cases and run them into the ground not before liquidating assets for profit for them alone. It is done because after "LENDING" those companies cash they are then indebted to Bain, leaving them ripe to try to pay it back. When they cannot. Like a degenerate gambler would.

Besides,.. The man cannot even live up to his fathers reputation of releasing ten years of Tax Returns. This country is about living up to its ideals living up to its predecessors. How close does one think Mr. Romney would come to doing that given his dubious reputation? Hmm. Indeed. ; ]

Voter suppression laws will keep elderly from trying to save their Social Security and health care. Voter suppression laws will keep college students from voting. Voter suppression laws will keep the poor from voting because they do not have cars, drivers license, etc now needed to vote. States like Texas do not even have a Motor vehicle registration station in many counties. How would they get voter ID?

The problem isn't Romney's wealth, it's that his policies favor the rich instead of all Americans.

I too happen to be an engineer working for a company that is heavily involved in offshoring and an extensive H1-B visa program. Cultural diversity has nothing to do with more immigrant engineers being hired and everything to do with fattening the bottom line. They inflate job requirements to ridiculous levels in order to disqualify entry level engineers so they can claim there is a shortage of qualified Americans to do these jobs. Then they can import labor more cheaply or build data centers in other countries.

@vwterry

I've seen the add, and it is technically not a lie. What it does, is imply - or make people arrive to the conclusion - that Romney's work at Bain Capital resulted in jobs shipped overseas; when that cannot really be proven. It may have, but there is no way to tell. Nor can you say it actually destroyed any jobs in the end, for the jobs may have just shifted to the competitors of the destroyed companies.

Still, that does not condone the business model. Buy a company, riddle them with debt, pretty-up the books, sell it and profit; later the company goes bankrupt, people lose their jobs and often any retirement savings, and the lenders are SOL. How is this legal and not considered outright theft is beyond me.

Obama is the biggest liar in politics. How did he do in College? Hoe did he travel to Pakistan? How did he get a Connecticut SSN? LOL

Obama should have the motto "I can not tell the truth". Just the opposite of Washington. How sad we have become when we have such a person as our president.

He did well enough to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School. It's called a Passport, anyone can get one. And, no travel to Pakistan was not forbidden when he went. Since, SSNs are by the location of the office where they were isssued and not where the person lived. It is feesable that his mother applied for his SSN at an office in Connecticut. But, you know all of these points have been debunked years ago.

I read this article, and the comments about it, and I start to wonder if I read the same poll as everyone else. So, I went back and checked- yep- I was right. This is from the ABC/WaPo article and attached poll

There's no such net negative in views of Romney's background buying and restructuring businesses – an even split on whether his Bain Capital background is a major reason to support or oppose him (23-24 percent), with 50 percent saying it makes no difference.

So, three quarters think his experience at Bain is either a reason to support him, or that it makes no difference.

Romney, by the way, has a huge lead with swing voters in this poll. That's why he will win this election. You can read the whole thing here

Negative ads come in various forms. Republican negative ads tend to be outright lies and even conspiracy theory fuel. The president's negative ads tend to be legitimate criticism in pointing out real flaws. Both Parties exaggerate, but once again, the GOP takes the blue ribbon. Here are recent examples:

RNC chair Reince Priebus: "A vote for the president is a vote against liberty, freedom, and America!"

Sound familiar, perhaps like this? "If you don’t support the war, you don’t support the troops."

Or "The Affordable Care Act is largest tax increase in the history of the World!' -- NOT.

The Chicken Little Sky is Falling hyperbole is a result of desperation. The more voters learn about Romney, the less they like him. We always knew this to be the case. The Bermuda story is just one in a long list of baggage, and that the blind trust was set-up in Ann's name the day before Romney was sworn in as governor is the real question. Character matters -- especially for our Commander in Chief and leader of the free world.

Romney is a weak, capitulating mistake and the GOP/TP are cranking out the propaganda with huge amounts of gazzilionaire money because they are freaking out. What you rightwingers should do is use delegates at the convention to oust Romney as the nominee -- Get a better candidate.

Romney cannot win this election on the basis of His own character, and His handlers know it. They are therefore depending on the productions of their PAC's to deliver the office for Him on their behalf. They plan to do this by spinning as many lies as "Karl Rove" and those like Him can conceive, and of course, keeping Romney as quiet as possible, while running out the allotted time. The "President" and His team are onto this, and will wage His campaign with the same tactics, but, having the President to speak as often as He can. Additionally , with regard to Romney running out the time, republicans are scared to death that the President is, in fact, toting the clock.

Keep hammering him Team Obama - nothing wrong with telling the cold, hard TRUTH!

The Washington Post's own Fact Checker gave the Obama ads, claiming Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is an “outsourcer-in-chief and that Romney led Bain Capital invested heavily on companies that outsourced jobs overseas, Four Pinocchios.

"Yet the campaign clearly seized on this report because their interpretation fit with a long-term “outsourcing” attack they have waged against Romney. One of their outsourcing ads before the article ran, in fact, earned Four Pinocchios.

Yet he ignores the FACT that he led the bailout of GM and Chrysler by having the US Government buy out the companies. That same year, both GM and Chrysler filed for bankruptcy. I thought it was bad when Romney said that they should have used bankrupcy laws instead of having the US Governement bail them out. Then Obama pumps $6.6B into Chrysler so that the company can come out of bankrupcy and have its assets sold to a foreign automaker, Fiat. What part of all of this is Team Obama telling anything that even resembles the TRUTH???

The thing that really stinks is how Karl [pig man] Rove and The Koch traitors will be spending hundreds of millions of dollars on commercials filled with lies to convince the American people that Mitt 'the corporate raider' Romney is an American hero................. I think I'll turn off my TV until November to avoid the non stop flood of Republican crap.

Want to guess how many Reagan voters in 1980 pulled his lever because they did not want Carter to have a second term?

Actually, the really interesting thing is how closely this election parallels 1980-

Carter won in 1976, and most of the media thought the "Republican brand" was irreparably damaged by Nixon. Carter turned out to be a one man repair crew.

Most of the media -including republican pundits- complained that Reagan was not putting forth a strong case to vote for him. They wrung their hands over polls that, at this point, showed Carter ahead by anywhere from five to nine points. In fact, the polls were not "tied" until a week or two before the election- which Reagan won by ten points in the popular vote, and an electoral blow out.

It goes without saying that the economy is just as torpid as it was under Carter-with few seeing any hope for improvement. And, while the polls, at the time, seemed to indicate that Carter had the edge on foreign policy- that did not prevent people from voting Reagan into office.

So, I see the connections- and it really does not matter whether people are voting "for" someone, or against the other guy. What matters is who wins- and I am almost certain it will be Romney.

We simply cannot afford four more years of Obama.

Bill, straight out of Romney's mouth:

"I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy, and finally when that was done and help was given, the companies got back on their feet, so I’ll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry’s come back."

He should take ownership of the Fiat sale too then.

starsailing -- Aside from Romney's 59-point plan (once all the vague nice-sounding nonsense is removed) that boils down to these two points; the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And of course, in the Land of Mitt Believe:

"It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people." Cutting jobs creates jobs. Getting rid of demand increases demand.

The public sector does not contribute to economic growth because they are elves who grow their own food and sew their own clothes and never spend or pay taxes. We don't need teachers, cops and firefighters, this is a conspiracy theory. Let the states go bankrupt.

President Obama didn't clean up the Republican mess fast enough, so he is completely to blame.

The way back to recovery is to give the rich even more tax cuts, to further deregulate Wall Street, and to increase defense spending even more. Tax cuts for the 1% "job creators" will trickle down, tax cuts pay for themselves, the "invisible hand" of the free market corrects itself. Romney knows this because an angle spoke to him.

Let the middle class and working poor run its course and hit bottom.

When Republicans say they don't like compromise, they are saying they don't like the system our founding fathers set up. Romney stands by what he said whatever that was.

Romney just needs to get 50.1%, and will do and say anything to get it. Mitt Romney -- NOT in touch with the common man. He’s not in it for you.

“'As a baseless charge, this is something that can potentially be dispelled,' said former Pennsylvania Rep. Phil English, a Republican who represented the blue collar town of Erie."

While that may be true, Phil, what is the GOP strategy when the charge is well-founded, as in this case? It's gonna be a tough row to hoe, especially in light of the GOP strategy employed during the primary by some of the contenders, to wit:

"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry pummeled Romney over his business record and personal wealth leading into the South Carolina primary, contributing, in part, to Romney’s loss in that contest."

Yes, sir, a mighty tough row to hoe indeed.

I don't like Obama, never did but Romney will destroy us. The Democrats don't have to make up stories to put old Mitt in a bad light. Just read out his accomplishments in business and kiss your jobs goodbye. I wouldn't touch this guy with a ten foot pole. He will destroy the middle class. Ever see pictures of the depression where people were living in parks in tents. That will be the middle class if Romney has his way.

I am nor will ever be of or support one particular party.

Most Republicans I know will vote for Mitt because he isn't Obama. Truth be known they know practically nothing about him other than he is the republican nominee. They as well don't really have good reason to dislike Obama. Propaganda seems to rule the airways.

Personally I don't really care who is president. Bush presidency so should of showed our real problem is congress. Congress needs to be put in their place.

I would like to see Obama loosen up for job producers in this country, not business as usual. American business.

Henry Ford had it right.

There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible.

Could you imagine if this was America's Mantra? Capitalism that worked for everyone.

Capital doesn't have to come from an outside source look to your employees for capital. When the company does good you do good, when you do good so does the company.

Honor, respect and integrity.

Raddave- How do you know Obama graduated Manga Cum Laude from Harvard? You ever see his transcripts? Didn't think so. Maybe because Obama said so in his (sic) autobiography...too funny if you believe that.

You libs kill me. You support some clown that never ran a business in his life. Associates himself with others that have never, ever been in the private sector and has a Treasury Secretary that is a KNOWN tax cheat and thinks that having an ID to vote is akin to offering up your left arm.

Then, you have a guy who clearly was born into a good family (i.e. Kennedy?), but has done wonders for himself and his family. Made a ton of money. Donates a ton of it to charity (much more as a percent of income than the Obamas OR Biden). Saved a number of companies (BTW, private equity firms use private money and are INVITED to save companies by their owners...not like Obama who has the business accumen of a troll and picks losers to support with OUR money) and jobs, but that's not good enough. The double standard is amazing...now go blame Bush...we know that's all you have...

And, MA was 50th in job creation when he started and 31st when finished. Average was 47 percent, but MA was already near full employment. When a class is 95% full of water, and you go to 96%, that isn't a very big percent increase, but the total is pretty darn good....

And, yes, I much prefer the ditch that Bush drove us into...5% unemployment, $350 billion deficits (remember, the Clinton surplus was with a Republican Congress driving him there), recover from the dot.com bubble, recover from 9/11, tax cuts and increased revenue to the federal coffers, etc. Seems like a GREAT place to be as compared to the Obama canyon he has driven us to. The entire country started going to heck as soon as Obama and the Dems came to 2/3 majority of the federal gov't...2007...but, again, it's all Bush's fault...

Or maybe you are on the government dole in some way so you don't care. This was one of the things that was hidden in the 2,700 page disaster we like to call Obamacare. What did this tax on our homes have to do with our healthcare? I guess that nit-wit, Pelosi was right when she said we have to pass the bill to see what's in it. Well surprise! We need to get Obama out of office and someone in who will repeal this nightmare and not liking Romney's name, Williard, oh so funny..... (what are you 2 years old) isn't enough to not vote for him. Obama is liar, he said he wasn't going to raise taxes on anyone making under 250,000 dollars a year. This is the biggest tax hike in history and it will hurt the middle class the most. You act like Bain was responsible for all the jobs going overseas. UNIONS are the reason jobs are going overseas because nothing can be made cheaply when they are involved. Obama loves unions, so do you really think any jobs are going to be made under his presidency? We keep getting poorer and poorer.

People SHOULD be upset by his work at Bain. Romney is touting himself as a business leader capable of creating jobs. Really?!?! Based on his vast experience at Bain Capital, where he clearly utilized tax loop-holes to advance his companies in various states, then close the companies and eliminate jobs or ship thousands-upon-thousands overseas. Certainly not based on his experience as a Mass. Govenor, where the unemployment rate in Mass. INCREASED as the national average DECREASED as well as other new England states decreased. Under Romney, Massachusetts was 47th out of 50 states in job creation/retention. Clearly, he did NOT create jobs and has yet to release a plan to do so other than re-use all of President Bush's ideas. Which created this mess to begin with. I know between the racism and the rhetoric, the GOP wants you to believe that President Obama is evil, not a US citizen, not creating jobs (although we've now had 24 straight months of job GROWTH, and more jobs created under Obama than in 8 years of President Bush) - but the truth is that Mitt Romney IS NOT the man you want him to be. As someone who lived thru the "Romney years" in Massachusetts, we learned one truth - that Romney will tell you exactly what he thinks you want to hear. He is a fraud. A phony. And his recent claims of wanting to go to war with Iran, keep our troops in Afghanistan longer than 2014, put American soldiers on the ground in Syria, end Medicaid, tax breaks for the wealthiest 1% while ending programs such as meals-on-wheels, fuel assistance, and pre-school assistance for the poor and middle class is taking this country down a dangerous road. We cannot afford another war(s), and helping fellow Americans in need is NOT providing a handout. This country was NOT founded to only hep the wealthiest, but to provide opportunity to all. Take a look at Romney's positions and experiences in Mass. and compare them to what he NOW claims to stand for. they are COMPLPETELY different, and will change over and over and over. This country can NOT afford that.

Beth-3499017 "People SHOULD be upset by his work at Bain."

Why? Because some people got laid off in his attempt to keep a company going that was headed for bankruptcy? Perhaps we should count the number of jobs 'saved' when Bain Capital took companies over instead focusing on the ones lost. Also, consider this;

Under Romney, perhaps some people got laid off, but virtually all of them likely found another job, and he was able to add about 100,000 more net new jobs by turning the companies around.

Under Obama, about 70 million people have been laid off (YES - IT'S TRUE, because first time claims for unemployment (layoffs) have averaged about 400,000 per WEEK, and for the 174 weeks Obama has been in office, that = 69,600,000 layoffs - half of the workforce). Fortunately, the vast majority have found new jobs - but not all. Unlike Romney, who added about 100,000 more jobs than were lost, the number of people working in June 2012 is still about 1.3 million FEWER than when Obama took office - according to the official government Bureau of Labor Statistics.

With such a miserable record, Obama's claims are like 'The pot calling the kettle black'. And please, no racist comments - my wife is Black, and my 5 kids are 'mixed heritage'.

Does anyone believe that Bain will resonate beyond the 33% who are Odumbotards? Its a long time till November and I think that message will get very stale to say the least, say nothing of when the majority of Americans know the truth of what it is that Bain did/does, most will side with Romney on the issue. Is it better to let a company go completely under, thus every employee loses their job, or restructure it to make it profitable, so some of the employees still have work? Its a no brainer, only a fool or a liberal would say the former, all other Americans will say the latter.

I just don't see anything the GOP is offering that can A) Be called a plan and B) is in the interest of the vast majority of Americans. I really don't like indirect concepts like "trickle down" being a plan. It always depends on someone else doing what you think they should do, trouble is if you don't direct it then it never happens in the manner you wished for. So you talk about leadership and what do you propose, "we'll just give em more money and everything will get better". I think even freshman econ has more logic to it. Get over it, give us a plan. Just LOOK at what Obama has done to the country? He has divided us every time he opens his mouth. And so many delusional (and foul mouthed) liberal Democrats are too willing to shed your backbone and be pawns to the man who is stsytematically selling out what WAS America and her Constitution.

You demonize and rant about Romney's wealth and your twisted perception that GOP is only interested in money. Oh really? From the Forbes List of the wealthiest people/politicians in USA, 60% are DEMOCRATS. But you let Obama play you like a fiddle with his "campaign" to inject class envy at every turn.

Suuure he's creating jobs. For the welfare and food stamp office employees. He hired his Jobs Czar, Jeffrey Immelt who sent thousands of G.E. jobs overseas. G.E. being doesn't even pay taxes, yet that's okey dokey with Obama. Same with Gietner..nooo problem. He talks about helping the middle class, then plunks a tax on us that is the largest in history. And it will cause the loss of thousands of middle class jobs. He cut the military budget, causing the loss of thousands of jobs, military, civilian, and causing the shut down of manufacturers of military vehicles, ships, shipyards, weapons. Also causing the loss and probable demise of small businesses whose customers and clientele were the military families from the bases in their towns. Restaurants, housing, grocery stores, clothing stores...any and every business that depended on the livliehood from business from the military and their families. And then there is the Keystone Pipe Line. And banning fracking, the CLEANEST, GREENEST way to get natural gas. But gives billions to Brazil, and his buddy George Soror to drill for oil that he promises Soros that the U.S.A. will be his biggest customer...and at the same time banning drilling of our own abundant resources. His policies stifle job creation because employers can't AFFORD to hire more workers, besides not knowing WHAT regulation, tax, mandate will come down on them. And those are jobs lost and not created for the middle class, people.

It boggles the mind that you liberals, KNOWING the kind of subversives he embraced, were his mentors and shaped his ideology....and yet you still support him. UNbelievable!

You go ahead and bash Romney because of his wealth, but Romney is LOYAL to AMERICA, doesn't apologize for us, bow to dictators, whisper promises to the Russians, court he radical Muslim Brotherhood. And he DOES respect our flag and our Constitution.

This is a silly issue. It's obvious that Obama was a mediocre student in high school, since he did not graduate with any honors. He also obviously did not score high enough on his SAT to get into a prestigious university even with 'Affirmative Action', but he also obviously really applied himself when he finally got into Harvard and he graduated Magma Cum Laude which, while not the highest honor, is quite good. He was also President of the Law Review which, while it was changed to more of a 'popularity contest' than strictly based on academic achievement, is a very prestigious honor.

The right bash Obama as destroying america for allowing 800k people who've lived in this country since being babies to stay temporarily and most consider themselves americans but approve Romney's 59 point plan which would ship them from other countries by the boatload and give them automatic legal status. Why is that?

Mitt Romney will "raise the visa cap to allow the 1.25 million high skilled jobs currently available to be filled by highly-educated immigrants. This will stimulate the economy and create support jobs for Americans."

Mitt Romney will "attach a green card to the diploma of every immigrant graduate with a degree in math, science, or engineering."

So he'll bring in highly skilled workers who'll work for less than americans with comparable skills but create "support jobs' for americans. Yes we'll hire more americans to sell McDonalds to our new workers.

Aggie-345886 -- Hahaha, you have had too much Brigham tea.

And you ROY WILSON-336103, my oh my.

Here's something I never thought I'd write: There's actually a dumber group of loopy, conservative, wing-nuts out there than birthers. The group is called "transcripters," and they are bound and determined to get a hold of President Obama's post-secondary grades in order to prove that—wait for it—he wasn't a good student.

Really? Has the lunatic right lost any sense of pride in its work? And does it come as any sort of surprise that Donald Trump is involved here?

According to a story in Monday's L.A. Times, transcripters are making a big push, offering a $20,000 reward for copies of Obama's transcripts from Occidental College (where he studied from 1979 to 1981), Columbia University (where he transferred from Occidental and completed his undergraduate studies), and Harvard University (where he went to law school).

...Well here's a notion: Maybe he didn't get into those elite universities as a bad student, but rather as one good enough to do things like graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law, which he did (after becoming president of the Law Review). Why doesn't he release his records? I'd guess that, beyond the fact that the whole line of inquiry is insulting and irrelevant, he knows that, as with his birth certificate, releasing records would settle nothing. They'd quickly be denounced as forgeries while another conspiracy would be plucked from the fevered imaginations of his deranged critics. Probably they'd start asking for presidential dental records to prove that he has cavities. Or that he's not a vampire. Or something.

You want to spend $20,000 to prove the president’s not that smart? What’s next, SAT scores? Actually, yes...

In terms of conspiracy theories, this is the annoying, tag-along kid brother of the one about how Obama can’t function without a teleprompter. It would surprise no one to find out that the whole thing was an elaborate gag by The Onion designed to prove how gullible the conspiracy right and the freak show-obsessed media have become.

Instead of asking him why he won’t disavow Trump, they might have to start asking the former Massachusetts governor how he can keep a straight face around the guy.

Actually I'm pissed at what he cost's this country aquiring it. People like Buffett, Jobs and the FB guy are great, they create jobs and wealth. People like Romney suck the life out of great american companies for their own gain.

P.S. I've paid taxes all my life probably much more than you and never received as much as an unemployment check. Can you say the same?

spider-737231 - Nobody except Obama libs gives a damn about Bain Capital. What they DO care about is 8.2% unemployment and a pathetic 80,000 jobs added per month. The DNC can spew all the smoke about Romneys wealth, etc. that they want to, to try to cloud the real issue, but most folks arent; buying it. Barry's a big failure, and changing the subject will not hide the facts.

Yeah, spider, because we all know Bush was creating way more than 80,000 jobs a month, right?

Oh, wait....

From CNN Money, Feb. 6, 2009:

Job loss: Worst in 34 years

Employers slashed 598,000 more jobs in January as unemployment rate climbed to 7.6%.

Kragg "(Romney) is going to be heard much more favorably by the Republicans in Congress....We do not intend to leave that many of them there."

I guess you missed the point. The Democrats would have to win 13 seats from the Republicans in the Senate to be able to overcome a filibuster. Since only 11 Republicans are up for election this year, your chances of doing that are 0%.

Like I said - it will take both spending cuts AND tax increases to get control of the Deficits. That won't happen under Obama, but it likely would under Romney.

If unions are 7% of private industry right now, how are they forcing the other 93% of industry to ship jobs overseas?

Your statement on 3.8% tax is just a talking point falsehood.

The "truth" that Obama has been a disaster for this country.

By the way - I have no doubt that Obama was born in Hawaii - It was in a Hawaiian newspaper birth announcement just after his birth. Since I'm sure his mother didn't plan on him running for President, there was no reason to plant a falsehood.

Kragg: While I agree with you that they are not hiring as many entry level engineers, the H1-B visas are being fulfilled by those who are immigrants to fufill the minority quotas. I have been in offices that had 12 people to offices and those that housed over 100 engineers. Trust me, most of the time it is to fufill a quota on cultural diversity( BLAME DEMOCRATS). Unlike the other professions, engineers are really one of the few occupations where you get to mix with everyone from around the world. Most of those people, I noticed come from India, China, Columbia, Ecuador,Philippines etc... ( all minorities) .

Very few are hired from Russia, or the European Countries.

There are plenty of people in the US that have those requirements, trouble is none of them are minorities.

You want to do something about that problem? Tell Obama to stop letting in immigrants ( at least for the time being). These immigrants like to stay here for a few years, working only to pay for their PHD's and then taking all their experience back with them to their home countries.

They wouldn't have been hired if not for the quotas.

systembroke "Question for Against Union Thievery insisting unions are the reason for outsourcing jobs...If unions are 7% of private industry right now, how are they forcing the other 93% of industry to ship jobs overseas?"

Since private sector unions were once about 30% of the private sector workforce, I suspect that a large portion of the jobs shipped overseas were indeed former union jobs - thus their number is now only 7%.

    Funny how that works, huh?

If you think that Mormons (LDS) are Christians, ask your pastor/minister/priest. They will tell you that ALL Christians accept the Nicene Creed as the definitive statement of beliefs. Mormons DO NOT accept the Nicene Creed.

LOL! You can spout all the ignorance you want, Chris-749391, but the "Nicene" Creed is an invention of the Catholic church, it has no direct basis in scripture and is not a prerequisite to follow Christ. God is no respecter of persons, nor the funny little reasons those persons use to try to belittle others.

This is being discussed pretty openly from pulpits in churches, especially in the South. It will not cause very many people to vote against Romney, but it will cause a lot of them to stay home and not vote.

I have no doubt that you are correct about this. Ignorance is a province exclusive to no particular demographic, and a big reason my Southern Baptist relations will probably stay home this November is directly related to Romney's religion (or, more accurately, their hubris concerning their own faith and their prejudice regarding his).

      #1.146 - Tue Jul 10, 2012 7:10 PM EDT

Those of you on the right are becoming more and more crazy and prone to reference the lunatic fringe of your party. What is it with Obama's transcripts? How many politicians have published their school transcripts? Have you seen Romney's? Personally, I want to see Romney's tax returns and the fact that those of you on the right are not concerned with the fact that he has not released them leads me to believe that your concern about Obama's college transcripts is "much ado about nothing".

Elliot - Did you happen to read Romney's "plan" that you referenced earlier in this thread? If you did, I do not understand your point because I read it and it is not a plan. It is a series of sound bites and charts and empty promises - things that would be impossible for him to deliver on and statements made to "constituents" which have changed like his underwear and are predicated on what he thinks people want to hear at the time. I used to think he was just an empty suite but now I think he is a dangerous man.

For those concerned about the debt - there is one very good reason to vote for Romney. A newly elected Republican President who tells Congress that we need increased taxes as well as spending cuts to cut the deficits is going to be heard much more favorably by the Republicans in Congress than Obama, who will refuse to cut spending and won't get any tax increases.

Are you insane??? Romney hasn't said ONCE that we need tax increases to fix the deficit; in his opinion, it's cuts all the way. On his campaign website, the only time he refers to tax hikes is when he is talking about the ACA and about how they supposedly "hurt job creators." Romney wants to CUT taxes; he plans to eliminate the estate tax, the AMT, and cut rates by 20%, sending the top rate from 35% to 28% and shortening the gap between the highest and the lowest tax rates significantly. Obama already signed in $2.1 trillion in spending cuts and was willing to sign another $700 billion if he got $1.2 trillion in higher revenues. Roy, please cut the crap and stick to the facts.

Smart people learn from history - You don't win elections if you talk about tax increases.

That's why Obama has tried to claim his Obamacare tax is not a tax, even though his argument before the Supreme Court was that it IS a tax - an argument that prevailed in the Supreme Court. Now he's back to trying to say that it's NOT a tax again. What's the definition of 'HYPOCRISY'?

By the way - Who's going to be taxed by Obamacare? Not the rich because they have health insurance so they are exempt. Not the poor because they get free Medicaid - courtesy of the taxpayers.

So the Obamacare TAX will be on the Middle Class. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it you America hating liberal pukes.

Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.”

So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how he’s wired.

Many people are unaware of the fact that when Romney was asked by his old employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain & Company as CEO to rescue the firm from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to work at Bain & Company for an annual salary of one dollar. When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and wouldn’t use an expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts.

Character counts!! (and yes...that's worth reading again!)

So show me where I'm wrong. The 'rich' have insurance to protect themselves, so they are exempt from the 'tax'. The poor already qualify for Medicaid at taxpayer expense, so they are exempt.

So who else is left to pay the 'tax'? Since most people in the middle class have insurance through their employer, those most likely to not have insurance and subject to the 'tax' will be the lower income middle class (working poor) which does not get insurance through work. These are the ones that typically go to the emergency rooms for free medical care, since they have nothing to 'attach', but now they will bear the brunt of the Obamacare 'tax'.

So again, I say - "Show me where I'm wrong".

Ironically, these are the same people that voted overwhelmingly for Obama in 2008. I guess you might call that 'Retribution'.

These will be the hardest hit out of this law as they will now be subject to a fine/tax/penalty. Starts in 2014 and by 2016 a single person will be taxed $695 and over $2k for a family. The ones that have no extra money will now have to deal with the IRS, for the crime of sitting home and doing nothing.

          Well, this is f'ing funny!

There’s a tendency by Republicans to assume the truth will catch up.

What unmitigated horsecrap! All I have to do is remember the Republican talking points over the last year:

It started with: "Bush did not cause this! The recession is Obama's fault!"

When people weren't stupid enough to buy that, it became: "Well, maybe Obama didn't cause it, but he has made it worse!"

When people weren't stupid enough to buy that either, it became: "Well, Maybe Obama didn't cause the recession and maybe things are getting better BUT it would be a LOT better without Obama!"

The last thing Republicans assume is "that the truth will catch up." Otherwise they wouldn't spout this kind of crap!

Obama has been smoking to much grass. Romney as a successful businessman did create jobs in America. After all he invested in Dunkin Donuts, Staples office supply, and Bain owned Modus Media which created 700 domestic jobs and supported IBM and Dell. Romney also as Governor of Massachusetts had an unemployment rate of 4% during his tenure. For anyone who believes the notion that he was a failure is smoking as much as Obama. Romney was governor of a Democratic state and he worked well and compromised with a Legislature and Senate comprised of a Democratic majority.

Conversely, has Obama worked with and compromised with Republicans? No! Did Obama work hard to fix the economy when the Democrats held the majority during his first 2 years in office? No! Just Obama's loans from the stimulus bill to renewable energy firms proves that Obama is a liar. The department of energy provided a $737million loan guarantee to Solar reserve in Sept. 2011 they created 500 jobs in Mexacali Mexico and 15 in the USA. First solar employs 700 workers in Malaysia to manufacture solar panels, they received a $1.2billion loan guarantee from DOE while they are $829million in debt. So for Obama to stand in front of you and denigrate Romney for outsourcing, he uses our tax dollars to create jobs...overseas.

Wow, you people are stupid! Romney outsourced America? How ridiculous your statement is!It's called globalization! You well intention-ed liberals are all for helping others so long as there is no cost to you! What about these developing nations? What about their expanding economies? It's okay so long as it has no affect on us? WRONG!

Oh I see.. so you feel it's okay for Romney to export American Jobs to other countries and get a tax credit for it. Guess who has to pay more in taxes when that happens... All of the rest of us. Romney doesn't care about jobs, he only cares about the paper in his wallet and his hidde millions in offshore accounts. The GOP candidates (Gingrich, Santorum in this election year), McCain in the last one all pointed this out. Are they liars or stupid?

Romney = We the Corporations, not "We the People".

The 12% - 20% "undecided" have already decided and are just not telling.

This is a Democrat Econonmy and they will pay for it with the White House and Senate in November. Regardless of what MSNBC wants you to think...

As misleading as Obama's ads are the country has caught on that his poor leadership has lead to an unprecedented number of people feeding off Government entitlements. That is not the country the majority of Americans want to live in. That includes Liberals as well as Conservatives. It will take a leader experienced in dealing with malfunctioning and fiscally irresponsible entities to get America back on the right track. Let's vote for change in 2012!

Well, the GOP should fret. Romney is a terrible candidate.

He is richer than Midas and he keeps his money in off-shore accounts. That's not going to sit well with the rest of the US.

He made all that money gutting viable companies of their assets and putting tens of thousands of American workers out of their jobs.

He outsourced US jobs to overseas companies.

And..finally, He created ROMNEYCARE which is the model for the much maligned, so-called OBAMACARE.

How can he have any credibility when he criticizes the Health Care Reform Act?

None of those things are going to sit well with America!

Here is the question, why would you keep a business running/open when it is loosing money due to bad management, bad product, low demand, etc? Business has to operate in the real world, they cannot print money like the fed...

People in this country are idiots and many think that abortion and letting teh gayz marry are the biggest threats to this country.

Romney and his cronies could rob them blind and put them out of work and they'd STILL vote for him based on those factors.

Bain Capital's next phase is outsourcing the GUNS made in America. Then they go after the bullet manufacturing sector. The top 2% cannot keep their gated communities safe forever. Perhaps when that comes about they will begin "Shanghai" imports of Chinese farm workers to protect the gate communities.

Because the Republican plan is to have Americans working for $3/day like in China. That why they are invested in doing away with the minimum wage.

Or like in Pennsylvania, where they have lowered the hourly wage for firefighters and police to $7.25/hour.

Eric: That place in Pennsylvania is run by DEMOCRATS. Which goes to show you, you just can't throw money at something and expect all its problems to go away. If Democrats would spent half as much time dealing with creating businesses rather than focusing all their time on social issues, then the city would not have be bankrupt.

Obama told a liberal audience last weekend that being middle class does not depend on how much money you have. It's an attitide, he said. I guess that means if I am broke, owe $25,000 and do not have a job, I am still middle class as long as I feel good about it? Thanks, Mr. President.

And you guys realize that when Bain makes a profit its not their money right? They are investing union pension plan money so its interesting that the unions dont seem to have a problem investing with Romney and making them money and you would think they wouldnt invest if union jobs were being lost in the process. Is it possible that union pensions were investing because Bain was actually saving jobs that otherwise would be lost and creating jobs and making them money?

The guys who get all worked up over Romney depositing money in foreign bank accounts--can you sit back a second and actually think about that? If a German resident deposited money with Chase, Wells Fargo what would you think? Go down any street in NY and look at banks called Credit Suisse, Natixis, BNP etc and you might realize that there are banks in this country and globally that arent just US banks. There is nothing nefarious or bad and in facts its quite normal. This issue is as a bad as the Obama birther issue and just makes any person saying that seem financially ignorant.

GOP frets about swing state toll on Romney from Bain attacks

If the American people are too stupid not see the smoke and mirrors the Obama campaign is throwing up to distract from the worst Presidential economic performance since the days of Jimmy Carter they deserve what they vote for. My hunch is the Pop media, like MSN, is playing up stories like this in hopes of suppressing the vote come November. Most of the adult voters out there have come to realize the emperor has no clothes.

A few weeks ago, the Washington Post and the Obama campaign worked together to attack Governor Mitt Romney with proven lies about outsourcing. Though this attack has been exposed as a lie, that didn't stop Barack Obama from continuing the attack nor has it stopped his Media Palace Guards from attempting to drag Romney into the trap of responding to these lies.

Rather than make Obama pay a price for lying -- which the media would do to a Republican -- the media chose instead to try and pressure Romney into the no-win debate of attempting to prove a negative, which would've only hurt him more than the lies themselves. Polls now prove Romney made the correct decision.

Another superb decision the Romney campaign made was take their time, get some facts together, and fight back against Obama's and Washington Post's lies on offense.

It seems as though our current President, who is now posing as Mr. In-Sourcer-in-Chief, not only squandered nearly a trillion of our dollars on a failed stimulus, but also used our money to create jobs in foreign countries such as France, Italy, Russia, Mexico, and on and on and on.

              RNC Chair Reince Priebus:

What do Finnish cars, Mexican solar panels, and Danish windmills have in common? They were all funded by your tax dollars.

Thanks to President Obama, taxpayer money, mostly in the form of stimulus funds, ended up in the hands of companies overseas. Instead of creating jobs in America, the stimulus and other Obama policies created jobs or sent money to Finland, New Zealand, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, China, Denmark, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, Russia, Luxembourg, El Salvador, Great Britain, Spain, Japan, and France.

How did this happen? Consider the example of Fisker Automotive. The company received $500 million in loan guarantees from the U.S. government to produce electric cars. Then they took their money and decided to produce their $100,000 electric sports cars in Finland.

President Obama's policies may be spurring job creation in Scandinavia. But here at home, twenty-three million Americans are struggling for work. Millions of middle class families can barely make ends meet.

The billions of dollars that went overseas largely had to be borrowed. In other words, President Obama borrowed money from countries like China to send money to... countries like China. It's that kind of reckless spending that led President Obama to rack up $5.6 trillion in debt over the last three and a half years, bringing our total national debt to $15.8 trillion.

Priebus will officially unveil all of this later today in the swing state of Iowa, and a website called "Obamanomics Outsourced" goes into great detail showing how your tax dollars and mine benefitted and created jobs in over a dozen countries not named America.

What we all know, of course, is that the very same media currently obsessed with outsourcing will never give the damning fact that Obama used our tax dollars to create jobs overseas the attention it deserves for one simple reason: it is a damning fact.

Not only does it prove the hypocrisy of President In-Sourcer, it goes straight to the heart of his failed stimulus and overall economy.

Good for the Romney campaign, though. They refused to get dragged into a media-created lie and a debate they couldn’t win -- refused to be put on defense -- and now have facts to fight the fire of the media's and Obama's lies.

Because the Romney case is so strong in their counter-attack, my guess is that both Obama and his Media Palace Guards will suddenly find outsourcing a less interesting topic.

Which is still a win for our side.

              Kirk,

Do some research. The majority of the investors in Bain Capital were NOT union pension plans. Bain consisted of mostly large private investors.

And yes I do get worked up about a potential US President investing his money in foreign banks. If you want to represent the US you should be investing in the US, not taking advantage of every tax avoidance scheme legally available.

There IS a difference between what is legal and what is acceptable when you are running for President.

              Disfigured - appropriate name

This is the whole story on Holson Company from Factcheck.org (not one of my more favorite sources btw)

Prior to being sold to Bain, the Holson Company faced financial problems it blamed on unfair foreign competition. A corporate history of Holson Burnes that appears on FundingUniverse.com said the company filed and won a trade complaint because “manufacturers in Korea and Hong Kong were dumping cheap photo albums into the U.S. market at a loss as part of a long-term strategy to put American competitors out of business and take over their market share.” The website said Holson sold out to Bain in 1986 “partly because of the import problem,” but the company “continued to have problems under the Bain umbrella.”

Bain provides finacial and investing support. Holson appears to have been uncompetitive from the start and was blaming others for the sum of the failures.

BTW. $2.8 Million was what Bain ditched an unworthy company for. You do not provide what they paid for it and what addition funds they forked over beyond the federal funds to move the company to where it could compete.

What's wrong with someone investing money overseas and making a profit?

Don't we want to bring money into our country?

Maybe not considering we have a 35% repatriation tax.

The Bain controversy comes at time when my employer is facing a hostile takeover by a "financial businessman" (let's call him the shark). The Shark discovered that our company has $20+ million in the bank....and no debt. If successful, he has stated that he will (1) replace the board of directors, (2) clean out the bank account, (3) split the company into pieces, (4) lock the doors, (5) layoff everyone, and (6) sell off the assets. In the meantime, he gets to claim that "he made money" because he's "a good businessman". These kinds of people don't know how to build a car, or design and build a computer, or plow a field, or run a restaurant. They aren't businessmen. They are money pushers who ride on the backs of the real businessmen. That's what Bain Financial does. That's the kind of businessman (Shark) that Mitt Romney takes pride in being.

Romney did not run for term 2 because he wanted to run for president.

The republicans have a tendency to reject the better choice the first time they run for president. For that reason Reagan lost to Ford in 1996, Romney lost to McCain in 2008, and Santorum lost to Romney in 2012.

And what is Obama's business experience? Oh wait, none. You can attack Romney/Bain all day, Obama owns this economy today.

Do you realize that the government is not a business?

Here is the question, why would you keep a business running/open when it is loosing money due to bad management, bad product, low demand, etc? Business has to operate in the real world, they cannot print money like the fed...

The purpose of a business is to make as much money as possible. The purpose of government is to ensure that no one is able to take away people's inalienable rights. How do you suppose the government is going to make a profit off this?

Low demand? Is there a low demand for freedom? For privacy? For security?

The one person that did outsource the middle class was President Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA into law. It took years, but millions of jobs left the US as a result. However, not that the truth matters to any liberal let alone Obama with these ridiculous claims against Romney and Bain Capital. Since when has capitalism meant manufactured in the United States even if that means you can't be competitive?

Solyndra is the best recent example of the pile of crap being spewed by liberals. Solyndra went under stating it could not compete with cheaper products coming out of China. According to Obama and his liberal supporters you have some winners and some losers when you invest in business, but losing doesn't mean you stop investing.

Despite the fact there are many success stories and thousands of jobs created by Bain Capital, for some reason Obama and his liberal minions hold Bain to a different standard. Just add this to the list of lies and deceit like the war on women, war on the middle class, and so on that the Democratic Party has conjured up for no other reason then the fact Obama has no record to run on. Or he would.

              Pittman

I have been looking into Bain activities. They buy quite a variety of companies. MOST are financially ailing - meaning no money in the bank.

Example Stage Stores. Bought two mid market retail stores that were struggling with the awareness that the market needed a mid market clothing store for small cities and towns. Put togeher a management team, took the best clothing lines and packed them under the Name "Stage Stores". The new brand was a hit and the management responded with the profits by expanding just a few stores to about 900. While things were doing well Bain sent the store public and reduced their ownership to 15%. But the management team over reached so that in 2001 when retail took a major dive, it along with 3 other retailers were forced to file bankruptcy.

Stage Stores dropped over 300 stores to stay in business. Sounds awful as we all agree, but that is not the whole story. Since bankruptcy, Stage Stores recovered and has bought back most of what they closed including another retailer that bought 150 of the stores they originally closed.

It's interesting to look closer at these to see what they ACTUALLY did right or wrong verses trying to make up stories about what they did that was evil.

When was the last time a rich person gave you a job?

If you let a poor person have an extra dollar, he is going to spend it on necessities. That dollar then goes to someone who works for a living creating those necessities, who then spends it on his own necessities.

If you let a rich person have an extra dollar, he's going to give it to a Wall Street firm, where it will be spent fighting other dollars in trading stocks up and down. It's pretty much lost to the economy.

The real problem is that most rich people aren't really all that smart - they don't really know what to do with their money. They just know they want more of it.

True, there's the odd entrepreneuror innovator who can put that money to really good use. People like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or Warren Buffet. But the thing is, these people are as likely to come from the middle class as they are from the 1%. And since there are a lot more middle-class people than rich people there are a lot more poor entrepreneurs than rich entrepreneurs.

And it's hard to set out on your own idea, when you don't have a lot of money. Now, if you are in a place with a strong social net, you are more likely to take the risk.

And of course, it is this exact social net that rich people want taken away...

So do you really think Republicans stand for entrepreneurship or innovation? No, they stand for Big Business alone.

do you not realize that the way the Founders set up the qualifications and terms for offices was so that businessmen and farmers could spend 2 - 4 years in congress and as president? Seems that they understood that career politicians are not very good leaders and legislators.

If you don't understand that getting things like unwanted government programs such as the ACA, no child left behind, medicare part D and huge annual deficits are the result of having a political class, you've got bigger problems than can be helped here.

What does one company have to do with our entire country? Really. We have a standing President who has done nothing to boost job creation, only create a class war with those who create jobs in the private sector. Romney is being hit with rheotric and speculation....The President is dealing with the FACT that we continue to have high unemployment, a lousy housing market, a devalued dollar. Let's face it, this country is suffering. And thru all of this, the President is focusing on Bain Capital. Please stop Mr. President,..You make yourself appear to be petty and desperate. The only thing you are telling me, as a voter, is that you are more in touch with Mitt Romney's background than the state of our country. I'm sure people are going to jump all over me with their own presumptions on my party affiliation and political beliefs and who I voted for in 2008 simply because I'm being critical of our President.

TN--I have done the research. Virtually none of the investors were private individuals. All of the investors were institutions and over half were union pension plans and government union pension plans. Other institutions, like large tax exempts, endowments etc make the most of the remaining investors. As for off shore bank accounts, there is no ability to reduce your taxes by putting your money in an foreign bank so thats just a red herring. I will ask some simple questions, because you seem to be offended by the notion that Romney as a certificate of deposit with Credit Suisse. Do you have a 401(k) account or any investments with mutual funds? If so any smart investor will diversify their investment risk and have investments with foreign companies. So if you bought the stock of Apple is that bad or Microsoft as over half of their income is from foreign countries. What about if you bought the stock of Damiler Benz or BMW do you somehow have a problem with that? My guess is that all of your mutual funds have some investments with foreign companies. Give me a break. This is such a made up issue.

They'd rather have a true businessman as president who knows how to create jobs. Like what Bain did as part of 3G Capital for Burger King.

Burger King is Loaded with Debt

About the only thing 3G Capital appears to have done during its short tenure as private owner is borrow $2.3 billion in order to pay itself a huge dividend of $3,931 per share in 2011 (see pages 37-38 of prospectus)." Early promises by 3G Capital to spend $500,000 per store revamping Burger King restaurants have been all but abandoned.

Cutting costs to the bone for a short-term earnings spike and loading up on debt in order to pay special dividends before going public are common practices among private-equity backed IPOs. In fact, Burger King itself has played this game more than once, each time going public at a higher valuation on IPO hype despite sagging fundamentals and then taken private again after disappointing performance causes the stock price to decline below the IPO price.

Romney is a true American and Republican willing to loot er save as many companies as he can. Take private, loot assets, fire and cut to the bone so profts are up short term then go public. When profits and stock price drop take it private at half per share what you sold it, rinse/repeat.

                  It's called globalization!

Only a dunce could not see that globalization is outsourcing. Avg wage in America for qworkers is 15.50 an hour In China it is 3 bucks a day with no set time limit on how long they work. Take any product you choose figure out how much it costs to make here and there and go look at the price you have to pay for it here. Whala it costs as much here as if it was made her so where is the savings for this globalization you speak of? Only thing that can come of globalization is all workers here must work for the same as they do in China or india. Thats why Romnay and others want globalization. Look at what he did with the HC thing so you can see how well he stands up for what he is really doing! His plan is the HC plan that just passed the SC and he says he does not support it??? Dumbest thing I ever read was it works for a state but will not work for the feds???? We were always told when you have a good idea make sure you implement it at all the levels you can to better the country. I am not a CPA or CEO of a company and I only made upper lower class wages in my lifetime but I did know where what and how much my 401k was at all times. You cannot tell me that a CEO of a company or a business person (and Mormon) that Romney is does not know where every dollar he has or has ever earned is.........

The republicans have a tendency to reject the better choice the first time they run for president. For that reason Reagan lost to Ford in 1996, Romney lost to McCain in 2008, and Santorum lost to Romney in 2012.

Ha Ha, just shows how ignorant some people can be. You can't be serious...

about that, I assume then that you voted for McCain in 08? After all a community organizer and a 1 term senator who could only muster "present" when voting on the tough issues hardly seems like presidential material to me, but then what do I know. On second thought though, I guess I was right all along, Obama was not even remotely qualified to be president, not even now after 3.5 years of on the job training.

Unhappy: Scranton has been a distressed city since 1992 because of some boondoggle caused by overspending on a waste treatment plant. No idea which party ran the city at that time but democrats running it now had nothing to do with the massive debt.

How's this for outsourcing: Obama, claimed the stimulus was to creat jobs, sent billions of the stimulus package, of our money, to Finland, Denmark, China and other European countries... Jobs for WHO? Not the U.S. He also gave billions to Brazil to drill for oil, and promised that the U.S. would be "their best customer". You'll never guess who will be profiting from this operation....George Soros. Hey, what are friends for, right???

Obama and the libs are crowing about 80,000 jobs being created recently. Many if not most are temp jobs. I wouldn't be surprised if next Obama will be adding teenagers babysittng to his count of jobs created. Employers will now only hire temps. because they can't afford to offer full time, permanent employee benefits. Used to be that temps jobs often grew into permanent jobs, but they are finding that is no longer true.

Trial AttorniesHere's another observation. There is not ONE thing in the Healthcare law that addressess tort reform. One of THE major reasons why healthcare is so expensive. Appears the trial lawyers have a good lobby.

HOW MANY of these are temp jobs? Your saying it doesn't make it true.

It's still better than losing 800,000/month and an 8% decline in GDP under our last "CEO President."

Obama is up as much as +8 in the swing states because of these ads. That's why Republicans are wringing their hands.

Obama already won on health care, Romney can't defend it.

Heck, Romney can't even define a specific plan for the economy and jobs. He's supposed to fix everything? Right............................

While governor, Romney outsourced American jobs to India.

While his jobs creations went from 37th to 47th he was sending needed American state jobs overseas and didn't see a problem. Of course the savings went to tax cuts for the richest, so much for valuing American jobs.

Now the republicans want him as president? And get this, because Romney knows how to create jobs.

Just because Romney could not create jobs as a governor with his business knowledge, what makes you think he can create jobs as a president?

All through the republican nomination process there was always someone ahead of Romney. Bachmann, Cain, Newtster, Perry, Santorum, etc. All of them had leads over Romney despite their cheating on their wives, being a lying looney, and forgetting what the hell they were talking about. Down to nothing but Mittster the republican party has no choice left. No one left but the guy who was losing to all the Loonies. Now repubs try to hold up Mitt, (who lost to McCain who lost to Obama)as their golden boy. He is their golden boy all right, gold in his offshore accounts that he is hiding from the public. Romney, the pitiful last, for a worse tomorrow today.

Obama is sold out to the multinational corporations too, but Romney is an old money rich kid whose greed, lies and Mormon magic pants are even more outrageous than Obama's failings. Both the GOP and the Dems are sold out to the ruling elites. But Mormon Mitt is way more in love with money and greed than Obama, so the lesser of two evils choices is Obama, sad to say.

"Obamacare adds trillions to our deficits and to our national debt."

When Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts, "we didn’t just slow the rate of growth of our government, we actually cut it."

President Barack Obama is "ending Medicare as we know it."

Says in the 2012 State of the Union address, President Obama "didn't even mention the deficit or debt."

The only reason any of the ads accuracy is questioned is because there's no way to prove that borrowing and paying a special dividend of half a companies value caused them to go bankrupt or jobs to go overseas. There's certainly no question those loot and scoot strategies didn't help turn a company around.

Repulicans cant possibly be whinning about negative ads.

They are the masters at that going back to Lee Atwater who had a come to Jesus moment before he died from cancer.

Karl Rove took over from Atwater and never missed a beat. Now Rove has the help of the Supreme Court to help him raise a gazillion dollars to accuse President Obama of being everything but a child of God.

Karma is a beeatch and Rove will get his. Just ask Atwater.

                                  Sheila

Even Pinocchio has an smaller nose than you. I don't need to do any effort , just looking at the ads of MSNBC I can see how negative is Obama's campaign. Obama has nothing to offer , he is a disgrace , his only weapon is attach and move from the real issues. Obama can't deliver , is a failure in economy, energy, foreign relations, thanks to him our country lost the respect in the international community, is fail to face China to end their game with their currency because he sold our country to China for 5 trillions dollars. Russia make a mockery about him and Obama is giving up our nuclear power to our enemy. Talking about outsourcing jobs, Obama gave 500 millions of dollars to Petrobras for exploration in Brazilian waters, Soros is one of the stock holders.

My support of Obama is self serving, I'm greedy. Romney proposes giving himself a tax break and eliminating the deduction for my home mortgage and making me pay taxes on my employers health plan which is now exempt which would raise my taxes several thousand a year. I believe I need it more than he does.

KarlStevens-2597445 -- You can say Romney changes his mind like he changes his underwear, but as Cher learned you are supposed to use the term "celestial" garments, not "magic" underwear -- What the difference is we don't know.

Seriously, it's one thing for folks who belong to cults to become senators or governors, but it's another thing to become POTUS, Commander in Chief, and leader of the free world. I'll protect Mormon's right to practice the religion of their choice, but I cannot vote for someone with crazy beliefs to such a powerful office.

And this is only one of MANY of Romney's flaws...

I'd like to propose the first question in the debates directed at Romney be this.

Mr. Romney, Being as how your business experience is what you claim is your best qualification to be president do you acknowledge that many of companies you as a leader of that company acquired, your company then borrowed substantial amounts on those companies assets to pay yourselves a special dividend and if so how doing so helped these companies grow or survive?

Lord Voldebama sent our tax dollars overseas to fund that auto company. This wasn't a private business man with his own money this was our President sending our money overseas, when it isn't his money he is gambling. Gambled on GM telling us how well they are doing now, but no one reports that our government had to buy 79% of their June sales to get them to show a profit. That means that only 21% of the sales were by private citizens. Not only that but they had to quit making the Volt because of all the problems not to mention that they had to give so much as a rebate, I believe they ended up losing money. Don't even get me started about the have to call back all of the Chevy Cruizes because of a fire risk. Hey MSNBC report that will you?

Yes, but Mormons did not fly airplanes into the WTC. Why shouldn't we question a son of a Muslim born man and a man who has "heard the call to morning prayers" of the Muslims?

I do not MIND Mormons as they have not RECENTLY killed 3,000 people. Muslim terrorist have!! But I am of two opinions either he is a Muslim or he went to a church with a really nasty pastor who did very little but 'damn America'. Either option is not so good!! But you do have to pick one!

In business, profit is first and foremost, while people are secondary (or less). In government, people are first and foremost, while profit isn't even considered. Yet, in every election, big or small, some candidate says he will manage his govenrment position like a business. Gov. Romney is just the latest to do so. It doesn't work.

You think taxes are expensive? They're not a drop in the bucket to what you spend supporting this country's fat cats every year.

Our country is now in a global economy where wage rate differentials are economically pushing jobs to countries where labor rates are less. That is a simple reality you liberals refuse to face.

Larry, You are a typical libbie.... you take a simple point about labor costs and DISTORT THE HELL out of the message ! Nobody wants the U.S. to be like Zimbabwe. But raising the minimum wage in a recession while so many are out of work makes about as much sense as raising taxes right now ! If you continue to raise the cost of producing goods here in the U.S., then those goods will simply be produced elsewhere where the costs of production are less expensive.

High labor costs and even higher LABOR BURDEN COSTS are exactly the reason why GM and Chrysler had to be bailed out. For years, union greed has pushed the demands for more and more benefits .... thus allowing foreign competition to get a bigger share of the U.S. auto market !

Larry, you are a true socialist who wants to return our country to third-world status by totally strangling the competetive opportunities capitalism has to offer! Jobs at less-than-desirable pay are better than NO JOBS at all ..... unless, of course, you prefer to suck on the government tit for food stamps, welfare, unemployment compensation and government "subsidized" Obamacare.

@ skip1 Our government is by we the people in America. Government is not a business, it provides the infrastructure and rules by which we operate, based on our representative form of government. If you believe that all the people should be under the government then where is the tax revenue going to come from. Expansion of the private sector jobs, expands the tax base and will decrease the deficit. Expansion of government by adding more people to the system will bankrupt this country. This country was founded on individual rights and freedoms and is the land where you can make your dreams come true....through the private sector. Less government, less government regulation, more jobs. Look at history my friend...government only impoverishes you. 30 years ago we didn't have all these rules and regs. and government interfering in our lives. We worked hard to get where we are.

Now, how does the Republican Party hierarchy reward them? By manipulating the nomination of an investment banker, who as Governor of the most liberal state in the nation, virtually authored Obamacare.

Then Teabaggers vote repub, who not only kill what the teabaggers want, but they vote against ending tax breaks for bringing companies overseas, they vote against stopping big oil subsidies that even the CEO says they don't need anymore, they voted against giving tax breaks to companies who bring back jobs and keep jobs in the U.S.

Teabaggers you do not make a million a year, why vote against your own self interests? The repubs laugh at you for voting against yourself....The banksters just blew 5 billion away just weeks ago and they want to crash the economy all over again to get the rest of your money. GREED =Republicons. Grover Norquist, Romney, Paul Ryan wants you to pay the taxes of the billionaires . Why vote against yourself teabaggers?

Bush spent over 1.5 trillion in stimulus spending in 2008 most to bail out banks and financial institutions. But it's Obama spending 787 billion on stimulus in 2009 that caused all our problems even though Bush spent far more than Obama bailing them out. Kind of biased aren't they?

Under President George Bush’s administration, the Federal government gave $29 billion to bail out Bear Stearns, $178 billion to American taxpayers in the form of economic stimulus checks, $300 billion to bail out American homeowners, $200 billion to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, $150 billion to bailout AIG, and $700 billion to bail out banks (TARP).

Yes, Bush started the ridiculous spending in his last year; 0bama maintained the high spending for his entire first term.

The Bush spending was meant to be a one time deal, not a new standard spending level.

elliot - And we bail out the oil companies every year to the tune of $200 BILLION + a year, every year.

Was Bush going to stop that, too?

The American Coalition for Ethanol estimates that when combined with state and local government aid to large oil companies, subsidies amount to anywhere from $133.8 billion to $280.8 billion annually from all sources of taxpayer aid that goes to the oil and gas industry.

President Barack Obama announced he is supporting a bill in the Senate that removes subsidies for oil companies. CBS News reports the legislation, sponsored by Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., was voted down in a procedural move. Menendez needed 60 votes to pass the bill but only got 51 votes to move forward. The bill would have ended oil subsidies to large companies such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, ConocoPhillips and Royal Dutch Shell.

Based on what he has done with his money, (tax shelters, offshore accounts, vulture capitalism), do you really want to trust him with yours?

Actually Disfigured, Obama's policy in supplying foreign aid is what got us into the mess we are in. How much in aid did he send? Billions? While his own nation is in poverty? Remember all the money he paid out to the Middle East?

Unhappy, the Bush Administration TRIPLED foreign aid to the tune of $70 billion, mostly to African nations where the people never saw part, if ANY of the aid because of corrupt politicians, and without strings attached, and that was in the midst of America hurting. You want to talk about middle-east aid? How about the Bush family, Saudi royalty & Bin Laden family ties for over 40 years, and the aid sent to keep partnerships going, which is why Egypt is only second to Israel as far as the most aid sent to any one country. Why Bush HAD to get 'certain' Saudi families OUT of the U.S. right after 9/11 happened, other than it being PERSONAL. 6 million jobs were shipped OUT of the U.S. by BUSH'S trade and outsourcing policies, which Bain Capital took advantage of.

If elected Romney will lower his own tax rate by 10% and pay for it by eliminating the home mortgage deduction and exemption for employer health care which if you receive either losing them will cost you thousands a year in taxes. If you don't currently have either eventually you probably will.

You want to see outsourcing? just look Obama's buddy and "Job Czar" Immelt, GE has been shipping thousands of jobs overseas for years... and B.O. made him part of our government as a reward.

Romney is the Anonymous corporate CEO vulture SOB that laid you off when he outsourced your job to foreigners

Why do you find it difficult to believe that the President likes to take care of everyone else in the world except his own country? Afterall, how much did we send in aid to these foreign powers?

What does Obama know about the offshoring views of his advisors, and when did he know it?
Some Obama advisors have have advocated or led firms that used offshore outsourcing.

For instance, the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness is headed by General Electric chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt, whose company was one of the first, in 1990s, to establish a development center in India.

In 2009, Obama appointed Diana Farrell, a former director of the McKinsey Global Institute, McKinsey & Co.'s economics research arm, to the National Economic Council as a deputy economic adviser to the president.
McKinsey has long argued that offshore outsourcing brings benefits to U.S. firms.

Yes silly of Obama hiring someone with a leadership in companies that actually hire people. But then Romney likes to fire and Obama likes to hire i guess it's just a philosophical difference. Maybe Romney will hire Yang Chong as his jobs czar?

Republicans are beginning to look with trepidation at the Obama campaign’s all-out effort to turn Mitt Romney’s business experience into a political liability, particularly in corners of the country that could decide the November election.

HELL, WITLESSMITT DID THIS ALL BY HIMSELF WITH HIS CALLOUS ATTACK AGAINST CORPORATIONS AND THE PEOPLE HE DISPLACED WHEN HE DISSOLVED THEM.THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN IS SIMPLY REMINDING PEOPLE WHAT HE HAS DONE.

Romney and the GNOP/TP are examples of what is wrong with modern business. Their formula for the new way to do business is to elimnate as many jobs as possible and place the burden of the workload on the remaining people until they burn out and quit. Then they replace them with an even lower number of people at a lower wage. PERFECT; for corporations. But what about the people?

Romney and the GNOP/TP want to cut more government (put more people out of work) in the public sector. This goes hand-in-hand with what they do in the private sector. The results are seen everyday; more unemployment. Then they point their finger at Obama saying it's all his fault.

It's time that America takes back what we should have had all along. Rid ourselves of as many GNOP/TP folks as possible and put America back to work.

Romney almost never mentions his record as governor for some reason he's always stressed his business experience as what most qualifies him to be president. Can't blame people for actually looking at what he did in business.

I want to hear solutions, not rehashing old problems. Mudslinging won't help you. Only facts and figures on how we can improve our situation will be in anyone's best interests.

This is an opportunity to campaign on positive points. We already know the negatives. Let's hear what you can do to pull the US out of it's economic, social and dysfunctional hole. I challenge both parties to put their money where their mouth is. And I don't want the "pay" to just be lip service.

Unfortunately, what is one party's positive is the other party's negative. Also, the office of President is not so powerful, that the President alone can do anything for us, in general, without the cooperation of the other branches of government - checks and balances.

If your emotions, fears, hopes, wish for change aligns with the Republican party, you will vote for Romney, no matter the facts of his suitability, or his record as Governor, or his behavior as a venture capitalist.

If those same emotions align more with the Democratic party, you will vote for Obama, despite his difficulties in delivering on his campaign promises, because you are more comfortable with his world-view.

Political opinion is a witches brew of emotion and selfishness, spiced with one's life experiences and character development. It is not based on facts or rational assessment of what's best for the "country," as if the "country" were one thing instead of a loosely associated amalgamation of special interests.

My world-view and emotional make-up aligns more closely with the Democratic party than the Republican. I believe there is plenty to go around, I am satisfied with my abundant life and feel that one function of government is to help those less fortunate members of the political family, and that every citizen should carry a fair share of the burden. While I realize that a Darwinian case could be made for "sink or swim" politics, that does not align with my heart-felt religious sense that "we are all one."

So, while I am disappointed that Obama has not been able to achieve all he promised so far, I realize that "politics is the art of the possible" and that we will have to see what is possible if Obama has a second term with a more cooperative Congress.

Remember why the automatic cuts to social programs and the military happened Last year? The final meeting in 2011 with Obama and Bohner over cutting the deficit? At the last meeting Bohner caved to everything Obama had demanded. After caving Obama demanded a whole list more concessions. At which point Bohner left and declared "no Deal".

Republicans all know that all democrats don't work, don't pay taxes, live on welfare, foodstamps and medicaid and are after their stuff. They've been so brainwashed by Fox if Romney wins they'll even cheer when Romney gets his budget raising their taxes several thousands a year rather than the few hundred a year that now goes to welfare programs even though they'll still be taxed to pay for them. They'll think they won.

Obama offered to match the amount raised by increasing some taxes by cuts to social programs. Republicans refused any plan that included any tax increases on the pretense they were adamantly against any tax increases, however Romney's plan to cut his top tax rate from 35% to 25% would eiminate the home mortgage deduction and employer health plan exemption effectively raising the average middle class tax payers taxes by several thousand a year. They aren't opposed to tax increases just those that affect theirs. If the last 2 major deductions are eliminated by Romney most of the middle class would have no deductions and could simply file short forms.

I am not sure where he stands right now on this but he sure is being silent. Not Bill Krystal though. Check out what he said on Fox this last sunday.

So, it's been proven that Bain was a pioneer in outsourcing jobs to foreign countries, but a "fact checker" disregards the facts and claims it's untrue in order to maintain the False Equivalency between Republican lies and fact-based Democratic attacks on Romney's shady business dealings.

Romney outsourced jobs while governor. You don't have to go as far back as Bain.

If Romney did not care about the people who voted for him then, why would he now?

                                                          "Romney outsourced jobs while governor."

                                                          That is a flat lie.

There was legislation in Mass.which related to the state having contracts with any business which had any jobs overseas...Romney vetoed it, and the Dem Legislature uphelp his veto.

A number of organizations that are impartial such as factcheck.org, ABC News, etc have said the outsourcing isn't accurate but you don't seem to care that Obama and his surrogates are lying even when confronted with the truth. The amount of incorrect information that people post on this board is amazing. Like Americans first who is spewing DNC lies about Romney's Massachusetts record. I live in MA and did when he was governor. We went from 50th in job creation when he came on (hard hit with the tech bubble) and when he left we were 30th. Incomes went up as well. I won't even get started with the uninformed who think only those without insurance are going to pay for the Affordable Care Act. What is amazing to me on this board is even when confronted with information that can be proven that is not favorable to Obama people still believe the lies that Obama and the rest of the democrats are spreading.

So if Romney hadn't vetoed it then the legislature wouldn't have had to try overriding the veto so in effct his veto actually did outsource jobs from call centers in the US to call centers in India. Fact check is quite simply taking the corporate view in this particular case.

Bob, Romney DID outsource jobs to India until the FED banned such usage. Then the jobs conveniently went to a 'Utah' group. Massachusetts NEVER got those jobs back.

The only facts in dispute is putting hard numbers to it not that it occurred. When an ad claims Romney outsourced 92,000 jobs that's hard to prove.

According to mediacheck the only reason the accusation that Romney outsourced jobs was rated false is because there's no way to prove that he personally ordered or approved the outsourcing even though he was a founding partner in Bain and these were companies totally owned and comtrolled by Bain.

"There is no question that Bain did invest in businesses that moved jobs overseas to cut costs — a trend that began in the 1990s and which many U.S. companies followed. But that doesn't mean Romney personally directed those companies to follow such practices."

Sorry but unless I see he opposed those actions and was voted down by his partners he takes responsibility whether it can be proven he actually approved or not.

He has stated that he will release more information AFTER he receives the nomination.

And to yours and my Republican friends...., it wasn't that long ago that you are talked about Bush being a real man and a real Christian, more than Kerry and Gore. Now look at who you are standing up for...., a rich man with a silver spoon in his mouth (or in one of his orifices) who never worled a day in his life, can't relate to the common man, made millions off of other people's grief, and is a member of the Church of Ladder Day Saints which is not a Christian religion.

Early promises by 3G Capital to spend $500,000 per store revamping Burger King restaurants have been all but abandoned.

Venture capitalists who fund new companies aren't at all like what Romney and his friends have perverted it to. Vulture capitalists buy up great american companies, load them with debt to pay themselves massive special dividends often driving companies into bankruptcy. If an individual did this they'd be responsible for the debt they loaded onto the company they bought but as simply investors regardless how much they took from the company the businesses who sold them on credit, their employee's and creditors take the loss while they walk away with millions. This may be legal but can you truly say you believe this is a legitimate way to do business?

Can you truly say that a strategy of borrowing 10's or 100's of millions on a company you just acquired helped it survive when the entire amount was paid as a dividend?

What amuses me, is that eventually, those dollars will be worth what a rupee or a peso used to be worth, so I guess the offshore accounts will be converted to Swiss or German currency, if they are not already. Money is a strange fiction, as the Germans found after WWII, when a wheelbarrow load of marks couldn't buy a loaf of bread.

Tech jobs and investment are in a temporary bubble, but Asian countries are catching up, so watch out! Otherwise, the industrial revolution is over, and the USA is no longer the first, best, and only at "making things."

Someone seriously put "Republicans" and "truth" in the same sentence. I know Obama is a liar, but if you want the king of all liars it has to be the Republicans. They lied to start a war. They lied about tapping our communications. They lied about torture. They lie about the economy. They lie about taxes. Obama continues some of these lies, but he's an amateur compared to the Republicans.

I voted for Bush one and think he was a good president but against Bush two and pat myself on the back for being right despite him winning. In my opinion Romney is the worst candidate the republicans have fielded in my lifetime. What i can't understand is why people can't see the difference between venture capitalists who fund brilliant people with brilliant idea's and vulture capitalist like Romney that suck the life out of great American companies to make a buck at any price.

Obama gets the pass as long as he continues to harm America and the military. Mitt shouldn't be ashamed of his hard earned wealth .. the same as Obama is not ashamed of destroying the power of private enterprise to rebuild America.... it's another story to avoid taking a hard look at the harm Obama and those that support him have inflicted on America ... you're easily decieved ... i know Mitt is not the best but compared to the American hating ...Obama ... Republicans want to force women into having less rights than a slave with the government in charge of her reproductive rights. Somehow this government force over women's rights is freedom as long as no laws are made to control men's reproductive rights.

But health-care for all is not freedom. It takes away from your personal choice, but the government being in charge of your body does not?

I am sick of all this right to life crap that only give the republicans an excuse to not care about the people after they are born. The republicans are proud they made a baby be born and then don't care if it dies the next minute because lack of health care they want to take away.

(Don’t just skim over this, it’s not very long, read it slowly and let it sink in. If in doubt, check it out!!!)

The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007 the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress. The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress.

                                                                            At the time:

The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77

The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%

                                                                            The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

Remember the day...January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?

                                                                            BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!

Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!

He has no clue about the necessities of the middle class, just read over the various stories about his Hamptons fundraising where Porches are as common as VW's, all he cares about is himself and the millions he wants from his deaf dumb and blind followers. He wants Pres Obama to open all his records but refuses to open up any of his. This proves he's hiding millions to avoid taxes and if you believe any of Mittens BS you are deafer and dumber and more stupid than Mittens.

Wall street can't rob us good and proper until they get rid of the regulations stopping them and republicans promise to help them.

Furthermore, there is nothing illegal or immoral about offshore accounts as long as taxes are being properly paid on the income therefrom.

Does Obama have something to hide ? Did Obama get special treatment by claiming himself to be a foreign exchange student ??

Ted Kennedy died on August 26

Yep, God's been busy

Don'tcha just love it when the GOP serves up that whiny garbage about "the Dems had a supermajority" and it was just "poor-little-powerless-GOP" when Obama was elected?

Remember the GOP threw up every roadblock, filibuster, dirty trick and secret hold they could think of so that EVERY bill had to have a 60-vote margin to pass.

So let's take a look at that big, bad "super-majority", shall we:

                                                                              January 3, 2009 - 111th Congress sworn in. 55 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.

January 15, 2009 - Roland Burris sworn in to Barack Obama's seat. 56 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.

                                                                              April 30, 2009 – Arlen Specter changes parties. 57 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

July 7, 2009 – Al Franken seated. 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A 60-VOTE MAJORITY.

August 25, 2009 – Teddy Kennedy dies. Kennedy had missed 97% of the votes in 2009 and over 90% in the last half of 2008. 57 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

September 25, 2009 – Paul Kirk appointed to Teddy Kennedy's seat. 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents. TTHIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A 60-VOTE MAJORITY.

February 4, 2010 – Scott Brown sworn in to replace Paul Kirk. 57 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents.

June 28, 2010 – Robert Byrd dies. Byrd had missed over 90% of the votes in 2010 and almost 50% in 2009 due to illness. 56 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

November 29, 2010 - Mark Kirk sworn in to replace Roland Burris. 56 Democrats, 42 Republicans, 2 Independents.

So that "huge, overwhelming super-majority"? It barely existed for a total of only 6 months and would have required EVERY Democrat's and BOTH Independents' votes. Subtract all the days when Teddy Kennedy and/or Robert Byrd were unable to vote, and you have NOTHING.

                                                                              Just another GOP fairy tale.

This is not a Democratic economy - it's a GOP construction. If you like it, vote GOP in November for more of the same - LOTS more.

                                                                              • 6 votes

They've blocked the president at every turn whether they agreed with what he wanted or not, they've rather flush the country down the toilet than let a black president win again.

                                                                              • 5 votes

Appears the trial lawyers have a good lobby
