The dueling speeches delivered Thursday by President Barack Obama and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney in Ohio offered a clear preview of the type of campaigns they intend to run against each other. And they made them in defiance of a week of protests from influential voices in their own parties who urged them both to offer voters forward-thinking solutions.
Obama and Romney essentially doubled-down on the strategies they have pursued so far, each waging a campaign meant to define – and disqualify – the other in the eyes of voters. The president’s speech was intended to transform 2012 into a “stark choice,” in the words of his campaign; Romney’s near simultaneous speech was meant to transform the election into a referendum on whether Obama has succeeded in turning the economy around.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney addresses supporters during a campaign rally at Con-Air Industries Inc., in Orlando, Fla.
The president’s speech in Cleveland painted Romney in broad strokes, portraying the presumptive GOP nominee as a rehash of the Bush era, “except on steroids.”
"[I]f you want to give the policies of the last decade another try, then you should vote for Mr. Romney," Obama said.
Following President Obama and Mitt Romney's Ohio speeches and fundraising events, the Morning Joe panel -- including MSNBC's Chris Hayes -- discusses Romney and Obama's rhetorical strategies and how they can be used best by the candidates.
As for Romney, speaking in Cincinnati, he said the president’s talk is “cheap.”
“He’s going to be saying today that he wants four more years. He may have forgotten he talked about a one term proposition if he couldn’t get the economy turned around in three years. But we’re going to hold him to his word,” the former Massachusetts governor said.
But both candidates drew criticism from the media and their opponents for their remarks, accusing both Obama and Romney of offering little in terms of substance, opting instead for broad attacks.
It’s a criticism weathered by both Obama and Romney this week from members of their own party, who worry about the turf over which the campaign will be fought.
In a memo that received wide media coverage, longtime Democratic operatives Stan Greenberg and James Carville urged the president’s campaign to shift toward a message that “focuses on what we will do to make a better future for the middle class.”
“They want to know the plans for making things better in a serious way – not just focused on finishing up the work of the recovery,” the pair wrote for the group Democracy Corps.
Or, as their onetime boss, former President Bill Clinton said on CNN: “I don't think I should have to say bad things about Gov. Romney personally to disagree with him politically.”
It’s a line of criticism not dissimilar to the frustration Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker voiced this week about the way Romney’s run his campaign.
“The way he wins is that, if voters see that 'R,' instead of thinking 'Republican,' they think of 'reformer.' Because here's a candidate that has a clear, bold plan to take on both the economic and fiscal crisis our country faces,” he said at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast this week.
Both the Obama and Romney campaigns have long protested that their positions are not just clear, but detailed as well. The president has pushed for Congress to authorize stalled elements of his American Jobs Act, though no serious political observer expects that to advance through a gridlocked Congress.
"You might have thought that it would be a moment when he would acknowledge his policy mistakes and suggest a new course," Romney said of Obama's speech on Friday in New Hampshire. "But no. He promised four more years, of more of the same. Four. More. Very. Long. Years."
"That's really the divide in this race. The president thinks we're on the right track and his policies are working," Romney added. "I believe with all my heart that we can — that we must — do better!"
Romney has his own 59-point economic plan – a strategy that includes a series of tax cuts and regulatory repeals that, he says, would spur job creation. But his central message on the campaign trail doesn’t revolve around any digestible plan of his own.
Walker even suggested to reporters that Romney might develop his own version of Herman Cain’s “9-9-9” plan — not in terms of substance, but in terms of crafting an easily recognizable jobs plan that voters would immediately associate with the candidate.
NBC News' Chuck Todd, the Financial Times' Gillian Tett and "Meet the Press" moderator David Gregory join a conversation on how Obama may be able to frame a winning argument the numbers.
"The American people I think will rightly demand to know something more than he's not President Obama," Republican Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said on "Fox News Sunday" last weekend. "So, he'd better have an affirmative and constructive message and one of hope."
There’s still plenty of time for Obama and Romney to craft and debut new plans before voters begin tuning into the election more intently this fall.
But the general election, so far, has been defined by complaints about its banality — from its Twitter wars to press releases demanding each candidate disavow what a tenuously-related associate has said. And while some elders in each party seem to believe that a bold policy move would give their candidate a leg up, others seem resigned to the emerging dogfight between Romney and Obama.
"It’s not going to be big on policy," former Republican Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told reporters on Friday, as reported by TPM. "It’s going to be personal. ‘He doesn’t care about people like you, he’s not like us, he’s mean to his dog, he’s married to a well-certified equestrian.'"

So Friday we had big news for all tax paying Americans. Barack Hussein Obama has decided to grant amnesty and legalize "800,000 " (translation = 3+ Million) illegals by executive fiat (actually an affront and straight out lawless act but we can discuss that at another time).
Hmmm,
How do you suppose that news will go over with the average American Taxpayer? Allow me to share my opinion of this slick vote buying maneuver by a now confirmed enemy of the this great nation, Barack Hussein Obama.
As a 46 year old health care administrator living in one of the top ten largest cities in Massachusetts I have first hand experience working in a racially diverse area where people struggle. Where Americans struggle. Where illegals struggle. Contrary to the moonbats insistence I do not hate minorities. I live in a minority populous city and oversee a very diverse work force of 150 employees.
What troubles me is this nation remains at the edge of financial collapse and with decisions like these by Obama its now evident that the destruction of out economy is his ultimate goal. This act is beyond criminal it's treasonous. Millions of Americans are unemployed or underemployed, record numbers of Americans are relying on government assistance. We have experienced the highest level of sustained unemloyment since the great depression. Debt and deficit are at record levels. Not just straddling but destroying any future for the next generation. The most republican of republicans understands that the less fortunate through no fault of their own need assistance, a hand up but not a hand out. This is not about that. Lefties for decades have set up this phony racist guilt trip to expand the welfare state to grow dependence on Government.
My girlfriend has a friend, Elvira. Elvira is to my best guess 68 - 70 years old. She's married to a retired fire fighter who is aging more rapidly than she. They have a son who lives locally and also is a fire fighter. Her daughter is married with a family and lives out in some northwestern state. I guess you could say they are all middle class folks. They struggle as many Americans do under the Obama Economy.
Elvira being retired spends a good portion of her time gardening. She is not your average gardner. She runs a club and maintains not only her property immaculately but donates considerable time as do her garden club members beautifying an otherwise dirty, trash, littered city landscape.
Aside from that Elvira works at a local food bank for the needy. Yet Elvira's once self rewarding activity has been changed over the past few years. You see the food bank is just next to the Post Office. Well, if you haven't surmised what bothers and saddens Elvira is that countless people in these tough times on a daily basis come to the food bank, box up can goods, and other staples and walk them straight to the post office and ship them to Haiti or Cape Verde or whatever their homeland maybe.
She also witnesses with great frequency foreign born people withdraw cash from an ATM at the local Market Basket and wire the money to destinations unknown (well not really unknown if you know what I mean.
Yet who can't, wouldn't be sympathetic to the dire situation of those in other corners of the world. But is funding third world countries this nations priority right now? To make matters worse, we have stories of millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars being defrauded by illegals with drug sales and money laundering through these very same EBT cards, foods stamps, insurance fraud, and disability insurance/Medicaid fraud are prevalent through every state in the union. And sure a great portion of these abuses are committed by natural born US citizens. I suppose those stories are just as disconcerting to lefties or I hope to think so. But regardless, the question today is do we need to tax our resources more? By granting Amnesty to a million plus? Right now?
Far too many Americans are suffering. Why oh hell why would a President with our fragile economic condition decide to invite mass border jumping. You all know that is precisely what he did today. I'm sure in his mind it's just an unintended side effect. His primary goal was of course to strengthen his Hispanic voting bloc. If you think otherwise, you are a fool.
So now these new "citizens" will not just "create and run" businesses as Obama says. But quite the contrary the vast majority of these new "citizens" will have legal access to taxpayer funded health insurance, welfare benefits, unemployment benefit, disability benefits, food stamps, housing assistance, heating assistance, cell phones, etc, etc, etc.
So understand tax paying Americans Obama's "right thing" to do just cost you a substantial price and will further cloud your children's future. We are talking a lot of money to fund these new citizens. This nation has a job crisis! Now every tax payer will have more competition for those few jobs that get created under the new normal that is the Barack Hussein Obama Economy. Fair? Is it fair that not your kid can't access instate tuition 10 miles over your states border yet a kid from another country, any other country gets it. Hell, your kid might not even make his school of choice, being bumped out by an illegal (no longer) alien.
Right Now Obama? This is the time to do this? Americans are struggling Obama. Good hearted people like Elvira have had it. Good people like Elvira, great Americans like Elvira, her kids, and grand kids deserve the country they have always known and loved. Not the socialist false paradise of your misguided mind.
Sir, I stand with Elvira and the millions of Americans like us.
You have no idea how many Elvira's are out there.
Come November you will find out. The pestilence of progressivism will be eradicated.
Romney/Rubio 2012
To long.. Come November, it will be Obama/Biden.
I read somewhere last night that no one heckles Mitt at his press conferences because, well - he doesn't hold press conferences.
Daily Kos:
President Obama to Congress:
Stop worrying about the next election and start worrying about the next generation.
************
Neither Romney nor Congress nor the pundits nor the Republican supporters give a **** about the next generation.
As soon as President Obama was sworn into office, everybody was guessing from day 1 whether he would get re-elected. Especially the press and the republicans in congress who made it their #1 priority to see him lose.
What a country. We got more stories about the heckler at the president's press conference than we did about his actual change in policy.
Typical.
btw, I doubt very much President Obama's immigration stance will help him. But you know what?
It was the right thing to do. In a country where no one wants to do the right thing.
Outstanding Post Pat Boston Ma. Applause from Texas and agree w/you.
Let's not forget, Mitch McConnell & the other Grand-Poobah's of the GOP, in the smoke filled room on the night of the President's inuaguration plotting how to create ensure he only serves one term.
Even though our country was in it's biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression...
And these same clowns use the slogan; Country First!
Yeah... right... when these obstuctionists, it's all about Me First
It's called leadership - something the GOP is seriously lacking!
Thank you ItsAbout Time. President Obama is trying like hell to get this country moving and all everybody in the media is concentrating on is the polls and stupid insignificant stories. President Obama is the one who has to govern, and no one and I mean no one challenges the GOP and what they're NOT doing.
Romney has nothing to offer this nation. Not one damn thing. Why on earth should President Obama ignore this? He's fighting for us while Romney and the republicans concentrate on seriously ridiculous things.
A vote for Romney is a vote for a liar and shallow minded individiual. That's why he holds no press conferences. That's why he doesn't show up on many MSM talk shows.
He has nothing to offer. Nothing. I have never seen a politician like him. Never. The media is just as bad.
If Romney wins it will be because he bought the election. And this country will be doomed for generations. Again. He's an aristocrat. A rich spoiled insignificant aristocrat.
President Obama has every right to fight back and fight back hard. The GOP and media want to turn back.
The Democrats want to push forward. It's the responsibility of every generation to do that. Romney doesn't care about the future. He has his money. As does his friends in high places.
Like I said, he will buy this election. He's the politician we should fear. He is a bad bad person.
I saw a tweet yesterday - Nevada - 65% of the population favors brothels but only something like 10% support gay marriage. What hypocrites.
Neither President Obama nor any of us should stand by and be positive. There is nothing positive about Romney winning. Nothing.
Positive doesn't mean truthful, I'd settle for the latter if given a choice.
Thank you dear Feisty for your email. I just got home and saw it. Will keep in touch w/you behind the scenes.
I still have to agree with Truman on the GOP:
“Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.”
― Harry S. Truman
Romney can't make the tough choices that are required to turn this country back around.
Obama is a failure- plain and simple. He is not qualified for the job, and obviously such a narcissist, he refuses to take any advice. Leaders surround themselves with intelligent people and use the word "we" instead of the moron buttkissers Obama has in his inner circle and his favorite word is "I". Just look at his choices, Geithner, Axlerod, Emanual, Jarret- all boot lickers. He squeals about inheriting the job, when in fact he spent over 700 million to buy it. Then he just blames everyone else for his failures. He is one and done! Great post Rob in Mass.
Romney's latest lie:
DailyKos:
Mitt Romney earlier today, kicking off his five-day bus tour from a Stratham, New Hampshire farm owned by one of his supporters:
Romney said the great thing about small towns like Stratham is that they don't need government handouts:
Of course, there is one little thing worth pointing out about the farm from which Romney spoke:
It's owned by Doug and Stella Scamman, two former Republican state representatives. In 2004, George W. Bush held a large rally at the site during his reelection bid. And in 2010, an effort to preserve the farm using federal funds was successfully championed by a Romney supporter and the Republican chair of Stratham's Board of Selectman, David Canada.
That effort resulted in the Scamman farm receiving $950,000 through the Federal Farm and Ranch Land Protection Grant. The federal funds were matched by contributions from the town.
*************
One thing we can all agree on. Rich people love handouts and hiding their money in offshore accounts to avoid taxes.
And then just blame unions and teachers. And the media buys this load of crap.
btw, how many were there for Romney's grandstand send off? 30 people?
Meanwhile, people are thrilled to have President Obama and his family home.
They sure are Pat!
The First Family walked to a BBQ last night in his neighborhood. He stopped along the way to shake hands & take pic's...
His neighbors ♥ it when he comes home even with the disruption it causes... Everyone was smiling ear to ear!
You're more then welcome! ;o)
I am speechless but not in the least bit surprised!
Solyndra- nuff said.

Bain - Nuff said.
NO president refused to take any advice. I believe Obama took sound advice more than once, which is very clear on the capture of OBL. Obama carried forward what Bush had started there, worked with our military, and then gave the order (as commander and chief) to take OBL out. He then thanked BUSH for what his administration had done.
I see.. you hold OBAMA accountable for everything, when it takes a Congress (WE) to actually help in assisting move this country forward. Just where has Congress been in the last 2 years.
Oh yeah, Cheney was such a great choice as VP. A man who lined his pockets with the cash from an illegal war. Can you show me any proof that he spent over 700 million to buy the presidency? May I also remind you, that it was the GOP who pushed for Citizens United. I believe Obama is now playing by their rules.
Romney is not fit to be president.
Willard’s recipe for disaster;
Mix in two cups of tax cuts & a heaping helping of deregulation, bake at 350 degrees or until
well bloated.
The private sector is doing FINE.
Obama's recipe for disaster:
Take all the ingredients you can get your hands on, then throw them down a rat hole over and over, hoping something edible will come back up.
Romney Flip Flops from John McCain: http://www.businessinsider.com/14-bald-faced-mitt-romney-flip-flops-that-were-dug-up-by-john-mccain-2012-1
My personal favorite:
FLIP: "Gov. Mitt Romney expressed support ... for an immigration program that places large numbers of illegal residents on the path toward citizenship ... Romney said illegal immigrants should have a chance to obtain citizenship." (Evan Lehmann, "Romney Supports Immigration Program, But Not Granting 'Amnesty'," The Lowell Sun, 3/30/06)
More flip flops; http://mittromneyflipflops.com/
Let's see... we enact the GOP sponsored tax cuts to create more jobs.... those corporations are back to their pre recession profits.... but, where are the jobs?? Yep.... that worked didn't it.

Boy did this person nail Romney with this comment over at Daily Kos:
Hi, I'm Mitt Romney. I'm here to tell you government is ****.
Nobody hates government like Romney. In fact, it's impossible for Mitt Romney to accurately voice his hatred for government. That's why Mitt Romney is about to spend a billion dollars in his quest to secure a government job.
Mitt Romney hates government with a rare passion.
But Mitt Romney would sell his mother down the river to have a goverment job with government perks & government benefits.
Mitt Romney is so glad you are Republicans.
Because this insane Cognitive dissonance actually makes sense to you.
*************
This is who Romney is in a nutshell. And he has Limbaugh to help him. Another piece of ****. And of course there's Fox News and Joe Scarborough and many of the MSNBC/NBC "journalists". There's Dick and Liz Cheney too. David Gregory. All of CNN.
All the people who don't care about the people. That's who the people have to depend on. People who don't do their jobs with integrity. Which is what journalism was supposed to be about. At least when I was growing up we knew journalists did their jobs as best they could when reporting.
Meanwhile, the people in Russia demonstrate. What do we do here? Believe the lies. Again. And do nothing.
Barry is incapable of running a clean campaign! Romney, for the most part, is doing a fine job of staying on point and part of that is identifying Obama's failed job performance.... lots of material there, lol!
Obama can't talk about his dismal record, and can only put out truthless attacks on Romney. By the way I see Barry has pretty much dropped the Bain criticism... perhaps due to pressure from his campaign staff, some of them who have actually worked at Bain. That one kinda backfired on the clueless one, didn't it!
Barry was particularly vicious in 2008, and has shown he has nothing else going for him in 2012 but to do the same!
Romney / Rubio 2012, more than ever!
All this arguing back and forth about Obama then Romney then Obama and to Romney again.
What is so obvious about the Obama supporters, and this is evidenced by the lack of responses to any negative Obama is responsible for, Obama supporters completely misread and/or ignore the bad things Obama is doing to this country. Why are you living in a complete void of reality liberals? Why do you utterly ignore how the mandates of Obama are effecting this country's welfare for our future generations? Is it the Paxil, or some other drug you are taking? I cannot fathom your total lack of wisdom and common sense when it comes to the things Obama is doing to harm this country. It is SO obvious he is trying to bring down our economy but you liberals defend it as if we conservatives are on another planet.
What makes a liberal tick? Or is it just that liberals have mind control ticks?
Amazing how right wingers can't look in the mirror.
One other thing liberals.... it wouldn't matter if it were Romney or Jesus Christ, liberals would hate anyone running against Obama... let's get that fact straight so all these off odd comments about Romney mean exactly nothing!
111pct - No. What is actually amazing is how you liberals can't see Obama for who he is.
Brianb-999431
I do not personally agree w/everything Obama has done. I am for immigration, but I do not believe they should receive any kind of government assistance from the tax payers. My ancestors came here and did not get a handout of any kind nor would they have accepted it. I do not believe that social welfare is a way of life. There are some who abuse the system and those are the ones who make it bad for people who really need the help. These are the same people who abuse our health care system as well.
However, what I cannot support, is giving out corporate or military welfare. I expect them to pay their fair share of taxes just as much as I do. I favor campaign finance reform and am against Citizens United. We should not let any politician "BUY" the election period. I support unions, but I do not believe in their greediness or corruption any more than I do politicians who do the same thing. I also do not support our government telling women what they can and cannot do with their bodies, nor can I support the denial of basic civil rights and allowing heterosexuals to discriminate against gays/lesbians right to marry the person they love. This country is founded on "We the People" its not We the People unless you are gay.
I therefore align myself more with Obama then I ever could with Romney. He goes against every core value system I have and he has failed to show me how he can turn this country around. Obama takes a stand (whether its the right thing to do, or pressure from campaign donors, who knows/who cares), when Romney and the GOP refuse to take a stand.
Thank you for your post.
I wish for just once Obama would do what he said. If I can't fix it in 4 years, I'll leave. I won't run again. Mr. President. It's really broke after yesterdays announcement. (And Bush did not do it, you did)
Itsabouttime - You have your sets of belief's just like about 300 million+ other Americans do. Align yourself up with anyone you like. Vote for Obama again... By doing so, you give him the chance to do exactly what he wants to this country... as he told Putin, "after the election I'll have more flexibility." If you can't see through that line as a danger, then maybe you should examine your relative positioning with the fundamental core values of this country.
Liberals will never be satisfied. After they get total gay control over this country, they will not be happy until every heterosexual is forced to have sex with a gay person. Once they achieve this, they will abolish heterosexual marriage... and if you actually love someone of the opposite sex, you will be considered a hatemonger. Think it through to the liberal end game.
Brianb-999431
No, you mean righties won't be satisfied until they turn this country into EXACTLY what they want it to be.
Gay control? what does that mean? Force to have sex with a gay person.. LOL how is that possible? So the real issue here is not civil rights, you're homophobic side is really showing off. How childish and immature of you to even have such a comment, but we shouldn't expect less. Abolish heterosexual marriage? So you now you feel threatened that giving someone equal rights threatens your rights? How is that even possible. Please post one reputable article in which heterosexual marriage will be abolished because gay marriage is made legal. Please do your homework and think about what you are really saying here.
P.S. The US Supreme Court will soon here several cases on gay marriage. DOMA will be delcared unconstitutional, and there will be absolutely nothing you can do about it.
Thank you again for the post... I was truly amused by it.
Think Progress:
Senior Citizens Lost $2.9 Billion To Financial Abuse In 2010 | The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau launched an inquiry into financial fraud and abuse against senior citizens Thursday, as studies showing that scams against the elderly are becoming more prevalent. Senior citizens lost $2.9 billion to financial abuse in 2010, a 12 percent increase from 2009, according to research from MetLife. 58 percent of respondents to a survey conducted by Investors Protection Trust said they encounter financial exploitation or fraud targeted at seniors "quite often" or "somewhat often," and 96 percent consider it a "serious problem." The CFPB is now seeking public comments about whether seniors are getting adequate financial education, and for examples of how they are being exploited.

There isn't anybody - not one single person - that isn't going to be hurt unless regulations change. Which Romney and his GOP pals in Congress don't want. It will make their money handlers angry. Meanwhile, Americans get raped.
Saw a tweet where Romney's venue had to change today because of protestors. Why didn't he face them?
Brianb, find a job jet?
Um Pat, Romney isn't running the country now, that's all happening on your Man (Obama's) watch. Psst, Pat, he's not concerned about it. No Bama 2012
Giving a break to illegals who came here a children and with strict rules to be followed as President Obama had done is far better than blanket amnesty given illegals by Ronald Reagan. Reagan's action signaled to aliens that it is okay to come here in droves and you'll be okay as Ronnie's got your back. If those kids can behave, go to school and get good jobs, or serve in OUR military for US, there should be a path to citizenship. Their parents shouldn't have come here in the first place but they did and Ronnie let them stay. So now, many condidering this their country, speaking English and behaving like native born Americans are to be deported? Somehow that doesn't make sense. Maybe deport the parents or those who commit crimesl, haven't been here long or refuse to go to school but that isn't who's covered here.
The right is ready and eager to jump on everything Obama does even if it makes sense. Why anyone would vote Republican these days is beyond me. I used to do that but not with the current GOPteaparty.
Pat -
A lie is an intentional misrepresentation of a known fact in an effort to deceive.
Are you suggesting that America's agriculture, one of the greatest, most productive nations in history ... "America is known for thriving farms ... " is a lie.
Are you suggesting that freedom and free enterprise that created jobs before there was government ... "Freedom and enterprise are what create jobs." is a lie.
Or are you just pathetically trying to marginalize Obama's opponent with an obscure thinkprogress type example in an inept attempt to label Romney a liar?
Can't debate him so just call him a liar,
What's next ... Romney's pants are on fire?
Pretty childish Pat.
Feisty -
The reality is that Bush's tax cuts brought revenues to 18.5% of GDP, higher than the 70 year average since WW II and prior to the meltdown (which was a credit issue) - dropped deficits 3 years in a row to a low of $160 billion ... about a tenth of the "disaster" Obama racks up each year!
Real unemployment dropped to 4.4% - less than half anything Obama has maintained.
Deregulation?
Hardly.
Bush nearly doubled the nation's regulatory budget, regulatory staffing up 44% and actually passed more regulations his first 33 months than Obama has.
You guys really aren't very good at this blog stuff.
Thanks for tryin and providing an opportunity to put the facts out there, though.
He said that he would get Bin Laden AND HE DID...
(unlike your man Dumbya who let Bin Laden go!)
Is RNC/TEA/Fox/Limbaugh rhetoric, spin and un-true talking points all you have?
Guess it is all Willard has anyway....
But of course you blind RWNJ's refuse to recognize all the President has accomplished, and because he is having success even with your obstructionism YOU JUST CAN'T STAND IT CAN YOU...
Face it.... the President is beating you right wingers!
Um, Tommy Lee, you have no interest in holding Congress accountable for not looking out for our good? It's their freakin' job. Go talk to Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts for starters and ask him why he demanded watered down regulations which wouldn't have passed without his vote.
Here's a clue: $$$$$
Its - It is not about civil rights. That is a ruse. What civil rights do the gays not already have? They are the ones making the claim they are being discriminated against... but the equal opportunity act covers them too.
Call me any name you like. Homophobe, Jackassphobe, Right winger and anything else you can think of... liberals true colors come out the second they call someone a name they disagree with. You can't have a civil conversation with anyone you disagree with without calling them names. This is your hallmark and natural course. Because I disagree with something that is happening, I all of a sudden become a homophobe... Well, you don't know me, you don't about me, and you definitely have zero insight into what I believe so you can take your name calling and run home to momma. Cry in her lap and tell her how the bad conservative was mean to you...
So Brien B,
The mandates of George W. Bush are okay because they allow the government into women't bodies, unneccessary war spending off budget, evesdropping on Americans by their government like one would expect from Nazis or Communists right? But something that helps people who are here, not by THEIR choice and who are otherwise obeying our laws, trying to be productive citizens weelllll that just is going too far. You think Liberals have warped minds. Pal, you need to look in the mirror and you'll see whose mind may be warped.
Stupid - Obama did NOT get OBL. Seal team 6 got him. Obama was sitting comfortably in his war room surrounded by secret service agents armed to the hilt. Acting like the wuss and liar he really is! Show me the dead OBL photos.
Adler - mention Bush and that's it. conversation terminated. Bush is not president, Obama is. Bush's EO's were terminated the day he left office. Little do you know about how Government works. Nothing happened to harm you while Bush's EO's were in effect... The one Obama signed yesterday does hurt us.
Taking personal responsibility. Both for himself/herself and for being a citizen.
The so-called Conservative mindset is based on trying to shirk responsibility. Essentially the argument goes like this 'well, there's someone out there who is taking more advantage of the system than I am, so the system sucks.' Those of us who are parents have heard this many times before; often children watch very carefully to make sure that no sibling manages to take more than they do. Conservatives just never grew up.
Well, some of us are more mature than others. Being a liberal means realizing that we live in an imperfect world, and even though we pay into the system, there are not only people who are paying less, there are also others who are paying more. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet pay billions in taxes. Soldiers give up their lives and limbs and sanity. Should we look to them as our examples, or should we use the few who game the system?
Because the bottom line is, there are no millions of welfare queens with dozens of children. There are no hundreds of thousands of greedy union workers looking for handouts before driving off in their Ferraris to month-long vacations. Sure, there are people who cheat the system, but by and far, Americans are decent, hard-working people who give good value for the pay they receive.
Being a liberal means having respect for our fellow citizens, to offer them a helping hand when they need it and realizing that we have to pull together. To hate the government is to hate the country and to weaken America, because guess what? We choose our leaders. The government is us.
Pat, I believe in holding both sides accountable. I feel like both sides should play by the law. I see what happened yesterday as a slap in the face to America. It almost looks like an attempt to gain votes, yes/no? (By people who are not citizens, but we can make them that way by November)
Poor Brian can't even admit that it was the big, bad black man that got OBL...and is now demanding to see the gruesome kill photos as proof, as if it's one big conspiracy...well, W.A.H.!
All this after going on some mindless rant that he may catch "the gay"....W.A.H.!
And to cut off a perfectly good debate regarding that putz Shrub Junior...so Brianb takes his ball and goes home. Adler has a great point in bringing up The Shrubber, but you feel like it's just not that important, right?
Huh.
Typical "conservative", right Brian? Don't get your way, so you scatter like a cockroach when the lights are turned on.
By the way, still collecting that unemployment insurance check? Or did the House crybaby cut you off?
So Mitt can't meet with the protestors because - drum roll - he's NOT ON THE BUS!! He's traveling not by bus, but by private jet.
well well well. My mistake. I thought he was you know - on the bus. I mean after all this fan fare about the bus tour, I naturally assumed he was
ON THE BUS.
Tommy Lee, I don't for one minute think what the president did was for votes. He tried to pass The DREAM Act a few years ago and the GOP wouldn't pass it. This has always been on his radar.
btw, didn't RReagan offer amnesty to illegal immigrants? I don't recall much of an uproar.
I think President Obama did the humane thing here. This is the country these kids grew up in and hopefully have just been handed a chance to have a bright future here in America.
As far as both sides being held accountable, I don't see GOP supporters holding this current crop of legislators accountable for not doing the right thing. Their only task in congress is to stop any good decent legislation and then have the president pay the price for it. Evidently it is working with some in this country.
Isn't it common sense to stop the blame game and demand that all work together for all our benefit? Republicans aren't asking for that, so their legislatures get away with all the government perks, but no working for we the people. That's okay in Republican Country.
We democrats go after our democratic legislative sell outs all.the.time. The Republican supporters don't. They're behind the Koch Bros. of the world unfortunately and they are hurting our country tremendously. Scott Brown, my Senator, is one of the worst.
But republican supporters don't think they will be hurt by the consequences. They're not paying attention.
Why do you think Romney is getting all this PAC money? He will owe them if he wins. And he's willing to do whatever they want. Just like Sen. Brown did. And some democrats as well. But we slam them for it. Republican voters just stay silent.
All I see is a lot of excessive praise for a President who prefers style over substance. How many times can you listen to the same words and not get bored to tears! But try and tell that to any of the annoited one's acolates! You will get the same blank stare and retred rhetoric we read at First Read!
I see the Republicans have put out a new ad featuring two seperate speeches from Obama... apparently his handlers never realiazed he used the same speech months apart.
Guess I can't blame him.... he produced no substantive results as President, how could we expect him to do better on the campaign trail.. how's that Go Forward thing working out? The polls would suggest, not so well...
[I feel like both sides should play by the law.]
Tommy Lee please, let's get something straight here. Nothing the president did on Friday regarding letting certain individuals stay in the United States was illegal. You, and others, may not like it, but it wasn't illegal.
[(By people who are not citizens, but we can make them that way by November)]
The president alone cannot...CANNOT...give citizenship to these individuals. The people the president is talking about couldn't vote before, and cannot vote now, simply because they STILL aren't citizens.
I have checked out several liberal think tank, LGTB, ACLU sites and I can't find this mission statement or agenda item anywhere. Do you have some special underground source where this is the a stated prime objective? One would think that all Americans would want to know about this 'evil pinko' conspiracy, and especially the gays. If the ratios are true, that would mean each gay person would be lined up and forced to have sex with 9 heterosexuals. Last I heard, forced sex is rape, something most rational thinking homo- and heterosexuals, regardless of political persuasion, detests.
[So Mitt can't meet with the protestors because - drum roll - he's NOT ON THE BUS!! He's traveling not by bus, but by private jet.]
So, Pat...you're saying Romney pulled a Palin?
Huh.
They must be pulling from the same playbook.
R.I.P. Seamus :(((
It was 6:18am this Saturday morning. I was driving my pickup, some 2 miles from my home, down the rather long winding hill of Highland Road, nearing its intersection with Nopone road. Just before getting to that point though, at the crest of the last step, a collage of beauty nudged my sense of sight. My breath caught, and I quickly pulled over safely onto the roads shoulder. There, spread below me, normally a small valley, running from north to south, and hosting "little river creek" through Its middle, I was offered a portion of awesome splendor being presented by Mother Earth and the Sun, Her unrelenting Suitor.
Understanding, since I held such a gracious invitation, I wished to look upon the entirety of the presentation and the gorgeous details bearing Its parts. A Foggy mist of many colors, yet grey near the valley floor, easing upward into a light green, upward more, to a brilliant turquoise, then topping, up about 40 feet into a flame of dewy blue into the face of a bright early morning Sun. My pleasure was indescribable. Shifting left to the northeast, along the border hill that rises some 90 feet above the eastern rim of the little valley I was allowed the detection of the orange glow of "Foxfire" from just within the darker areas of the mighty Oaks, Poplars, Ash, Hickory, and Sweet Gums, the rightful master residents of the hill. The Foxfire glow was some 8 to 10 feet above the meeting of the blue mist and the bordering forest, decidedly contributing to the whole magnificence. Now, a gentle right shift to the southeast, beginning near the floor, then upward, to the ongoing visitation of the blue mist and the great green forest, coming together as 2 friends of close and like persuasion. In total, unutterable beauty!
Other than eye movement, I think I was motionless for about 20 minutes, entranced in the spectacle of "pure beauty". There were sounds too. These though, are another testimony of beauty I shall hold, at least for now.
Mother Earth, like her Progeny is prone to many emotions, yet, She is always here with nourishment and accommodation for all. She is not stingy with her love either. She sure tendered me an unexpected helping this morning, and I think, asks only I share it among my fellows, and respect Her. Henceforth I shall endeavor to better do Her bidding. Regards to all
I believe it's true that obama won't say or do anything without the approval of George Soros, so it is he who the liberals should blame for barry's tepid campaign so far!
[I believe it's true that obama won't say or do anything without the approval of George Soros...]
So, in other words you believe everything anyone tells you...
...check...
Mickey, I don't know if Mitt is on the bus, off the bus. I'm reading tweets that he's flying in a private jet but I have no confirmation of that.
Didn't we all just assume he was on that bus?
Where is he? He sure ain't meeting with protestors.
Easily the worst candidate I have ever seen. He doesn't have one ounce of sincerity in him. He's your typical aristocrat.
Clueless.
Uh, Pat? With how many protestors did Obama meet?
Remember all those rallies to stop HCR? Remember Scott Brown being elected in Massachusetts for that very reason? Did it stop Obama?
How about a little less hypocrisy, and a little more defense of Obama's policies- the ones that have raised the debt by almost six trillion dollars, removed hundreds of thousands of people from the civilian labor force in a feeble attempt to lower the unemployment rate, the ones that led to GDP growth below 2%- and headed south from there. . .
Railing hysterically over Romney not meeting with protestors? Really? Is that all you've got?
It isn't enough.
Mitt Romney has changed the route of his campaign bus tour through Pennsylvania after Democrats planned to show up and challenge him at one stop.
He's on the bus.
[Is that all you've got?]
Apparently, you've got that big fat teacher's pension check to cash, right Sn00kie?
Romney the liar dodging protesters? At least he hasn't started setting up "free speech zones" miles away from his planned event... not yet, anyway...Remember those NoJo?
Sure you do...
I mean, really...if Mittens can't face the music while campaigning, just how is he going to face the constant barrage that will await him if he becomes president?
But you'll believe anything, right Sn00kie? After all...liars and truth-stretchers flock together.
You are suggesting Obama changed the calculation to determine the unemployment rate. Reagan is famously known for this one - where he kicked you out of the work force if you were unemployed for longer than two years, and to improve the base, he added in the military and part-time working force. Please cite any articles that show this calculation was changed by Obama.
Rob in MASS - I fall to understand why your posting was collapsed by the community - Guess the truth is not welcomed here.
[You are suggesting Obama changed the calculation to determine the unemployment rate.]
Sn00kie is good at suggesting...see, cause..."that's all she's got".
But the laughable part of her post is simply the fact that when Ronnie Raygun did it, it was "the American thing to do", but even in suggesting that President Obama dit it, it's a "feeble attempt to lower the unemployment rate".
Feeble, indeed...NoJo knows the meaning of the word all too well.
NoJo knows...after all, she's worked on all kinds of campaigns, even since she was in a stroller when her parents planted a little American flag in her paw and used her as a political pawn.
Mickey, Romney in all his glory: This was yesterday on the campaign trail:
Posted by GottaLaf:
Of course, he was non-committal, failing to offer any specific option of his own, because he’s now stuck having to appeal to more moderate voters. His previous self-deportation inanities and more radical anti-immigration positions are a problem for him now and he knows it. Especially because -
After making his statement on immigration, Romney refused to take questions, in keeping with his campaign’s meticulous staging of the events that opened his tour, which will also take him to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan.
It goes without saying that it’s vital that Willard avoids Q and A, because then he’d be clashing head on with all the message control, lies, and staging that money can buy. Needless to say, this is a guy who doesn’t like surprises:
Leaving little to chance, Romney spoke with the aid of a teleprompter.
Yet this is what he said famously to GBeck:
“You know, it’s one of the things that’s most troubling to me is that the Democratic party has selected a nominee who has not been tested. He’s an intelligent guy. That you can tell. He speaks well. He reads the TelePrompTer well.“
****************
This is what the newest GOP rising star said yesterday.
Kelly Ayotte, referring to President Obama's driving in the ditch comment:
“It’s time to make sure we are on the wrong road,” she told the crowd.
***********
Inspiring bunch aren't they? Good grief.
libviners if you think your messiah did the amnesty out of the goodness of his heart you are living in the big river. votes, votes, votes is all that it is....so plain even my dog can see it and he is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.
both sides will resort to whatever they deem necessary to cultivate votes...dirty politics 101.
Pat,
I think most Americans see through all the bullcrap the microcephalics like Romney and their newest "rising stars" regurgitate. Their own words will come back to haunt them.
Besides, they have Allen West, too... isn't he just another ignorant dolt who was drummed out of the military for being, well, an @!$%#?
Sooner or later, all the lies and half-truths and innuendo will take its toll on this "modern day" GOP.
Conservatism truly is a mental illness...
liberalism is maxist/alinsky study of failure for this country.
I was the right thing to do, and it was also a brilliant and shrewd political move. Caught poor Romney so off guard, he will be spending all weekend on damage control. Touche, Obama, you managed two birds with one stone, as the saying goes.
without his orders, no one would've gotten OBL. But that's alright Brianb. I love to see the way that it gets under your skin. And please, tell me the last time a sitting president took an active part in any combat operation? You can't because it's never happened, except in the movie "Independence Day" which about where you and your fellow bagger's mindset is.
Brianb-999431
Ever hear of DOMA? Federal law passed by the US Congress stating marriage is between a man anda a woman? That's a violation of Amendment #14. IT means, gays/lesbians can't get married in America. Umm. that should cover equal civil rights.
LOL. It's not name calling when it's the TRUTH.
See previous comment.
Oh but based on your comment... um.. it fits very well. :-), SO keep on trying to convince people otherwise. The truth is, you are a homophobe. Look it up in the dictionary, and it will describe you.
P.S. I Noticed you could not post 1 reputable article about how gay marriage will end heterosexual marriage. I am used to righities making things up.
Article II Of the US Constitution. Who is president? Answer Obama. Who is commander and chief? Answer: President Obama. Who ordered the military to capture OBL? Answer: President Obama. Btw... After it was over, Obama called Bush and thanked him for what his administration did to help this take place AND the Navy Seals.
Any more questions?
Get a basic education in American Government, American History, and read Common Sense by Thomas Paine.
I was the right thing to do
yet to be seen if it was a genius moment ...just sayin curious as to what the country as a whole thinks of it? Already knew what the liberal and conservative fanatics would say.
I thought I "smelled" something.... Then I relized.. It was Feistyredheads crotch... Yuk....
It'saboutTime.... Needs a little work... Might have a screw our two lose.. A lot of people are drinking the same koolaid and eating the same dog that Obama is giving out... Looks like you might need your stomach pumped..
SRAGAN
That might actually mean something, if I respected your opinion that is. Next time, try to comment on something.... that actually has merit. Maybe it will show us that you can be an adult?
Romney's campaign of "I'm not Obama" will only work for so long. Sooner or later, Americans will see through that and want substantive and specific answers - something he does not have.
Romney's plan seems to be to start another war with Iran, putting us billions more in debt, while lining his own pockets - which, of course, is something he cannot say. Thus, we hear nothing but "I'm not Obama" from him.
We are finally recovering from 8 years of Bush. We CANNOT afford another 4 years of a Bush wanna-be! It would spell destruction for our country.
Obama/Biden 2012
Mitch McConnell set the tone for this election 3.5 yrs. ago. The new gop will continue it's unhonorable bs. Simple math. Obama and congress 2012!
Romney and the blaming...sick....it reminds me of Karl Rove....after Bush I could care less about being political and nice....return fire
"But the general election, so far, has been defined by complaints about its banality"
... the banality of the campaign rests squarely on the shoulders of those reporting on it.
Yeah, shoot the messenger.
The real problem with the reporting is they let the campaigns (esp Romney and his PACS) say crap that is blatantly untrue and don't question it in order to be 'fair'.
Yeah Hank - That's a real something statement... Taken from your perspective, you never see the falsehoods coming from the Obama administration and campaign deluxe. The Obama campaign constantly claims Obama has added over 3 million new jobs, but the government offices totally disagree with that figure... Obama has shed jobs in the last 3 years with nothing added... the campaign figures that people are stupid and when they hear something like what Obama claims, that resonates well with the dumb voters who know no different, nor will ever check up on it.
So your claims of Romney being the only one doing the spin are totally false.
So tell us Romney, in your 59-point stellar plan, how does giving you and your mega-wealthy friends a tax break, and how does eliminating regulations on you and your mega-corporations equate to job creation? You're missing the simple point that the classes below the uber-wealthy are the economic engine (in case you hadn't heard, it is called consumerism). As long as non-uberwealthy classes cannot afford to consume, their is nothing to drive demand, thus, no incentive for the uber-wealthy to hire new positions.
All your 59-point plan will do is make the rich wealthier and stop any economic growth as the non-wealthy classes lose more and more purchasing power. That is not a plan for economic prosperity, than is a plan to send us spiraling into a depression, which will eliminate the few remaining assets the non-wealthy classes possess, spiral unemployment into the 20/40% range, destroy GDP, and eliminate any possibility of paying down the debt. Great plan Romney AKA Hoover reincarnate.
RedDev, your constant whining about tax breaks is getting really very old and boring. Hasn't happened and what has happened was shared by your hero Obama... he did the same thing.
Trying to demonize either one of the candidates smells of desperation. Both of them has something to offer us, and in November the voters will decide. Leave the hate at home and quit placing the blame on others.
Yesterday the president made a decision , we will no long deport a selected group of illegals, he said its the right thing to do. Now that we know they stop deportation for some, its even more important to make sure we protect our rights as voters, and require ID to vote. Its the right thing to do.
Tuff - as long as Romney, Norquist, and the GOP/TP keep advocating tax breaks for the wealthy as a means of job creation, I will keep asking how those tax cuts translates to creating jobs. Ya see, we already have the lowest tax rates for the wealthy and for corporations, in fact, the loopholes are so deep, thousands of the wealthy/corporate crowd pay no taxes - yet we have yet to see any meaningful job creation. May I suggest you buy some earplugs?
He started it!
RedDevil, You create capital, by repatriating corporate profits made overseas to create jobs. You do take Take from Peter in taxes to give to paul and create anything, let alone jobs!
According to Willard Romney, "Lower taxes for job creators means jobs." In December 2010, President Obama signed legislation extending tax cuts first enacted under President Bush, effectively owning those tax cuts. Yet, by their own statements, Republicans admit that those tax cuts have not produced any additional jobs. The tax cuts have been in place for almost a decade, yet the jobs are not what they should be.
The record low level of taxes enjoyed by the wealthy and corporations should have produced record levels of employment, according to the theory of why we need the tax cuts. Instead, just the opposite seems to be true. In this case, we need to consider that, historically, the highest levels of employment and economic activity have been when tax rates on the wealthy have been at levels in excess of 70% for the top.
It is also time to consider that Republicans have only been elected when the people fail to use their intelligence. People need to vote for someone who has the best interest of the entire country in mind, instead of just the wealthy.
I'm usually in favor of positive dialogue by the candidates.
However, after President Obama's unveiling of his 'fastpass for illegals', it is quite difficult to remain possible about anything this disingenuous President says. It is a cheap political trick shrouded in high-minded rhetoric that is totally unbelievable.
Really? So, America should punish children for what there illegal immigrant parents did. Since when does the United States of America treat children like that?
Romney bullies teenagers in his little prep school using homosexual overtones. "he apologies' because he was caught, and yet says NOTHING about any other child who is getting bullied today. Yeah, that's the man who cares about children and schools. NOT.
Obama/Biden 2012.
One man doing the right thing, is another man's cheap political trick - depending on how much of a cynic you are.
Right wing can't even distinguish between right and wrong anymore - confused - blinded by hate
Its - You are looking at it from the back side of the mirror. The United States is NOT responsible for what illegal immigrants do that is illegal. That also effects their offspring. I didn't have those children so why should my tax dollars support them? Do I feel sorry for their plight, sure... but that does NOT make us responsible for them and they should not be given a free passport into this country. The parents who are illegal in the first place should take responsibility for their kids... not US!
To you my approach seems cruel... but it's not! They should not be here in the first place. Our DAMN government allows this crap to continue without any protections for the legal citizens of this country. In my opinion every government politician that allows illegal immigration to continue needs to be horsewhipped and then tarred and feathered. I'll bet they'd change their stance if they were subject to that punishment.
Obama's egotism and narcissm enables him to trample the US Constitution and bypass Congress with unpopular legislation. This will all come back to bite him in November! He has no moral compass or integrity! Lies, broken promises, and rhetoric are the only tools he works with.... shameful!
IT'SABOUTTIME....You are retarded...
Brianb,
You say your approach seems cruel........but it's not! Because those kids shouldn't be here in the first place. But they ARE!!! You can't go back to 'gee I wish things were different.' That's what children do. Adults deal with things as they are now.
No sragan, you're retarded. And a child hater, no less. Probably love corporations, though. Cause they're people too.
Brianb-999431
I see.. so we should just deport these children to wherever they came from. All because their parents came here illegally. Hmmm... You know, that little tablet on the Statue of Liberty" Give us your cold, your tired, and your hungry" means something to "Americans".
The rest of your comment ignored.
Deport all mescans that don't belong.... Thanks... They are crooks and thives...
Rob in Mass
I hope everyone understands that not all aliens take from food pantries and send the food to their home countries. I've worked in the food processing industry and please believe me when I tell you that white and black US citizens will not do these hard, and most of the time gross jobs, for minimum wage and no benefits. I wish people would realize we need these workers for meat, poultry, and produce production - also, cleaning industries (factories, hotels, and restaurants) and appreciate them for it. If you want to complain about foreigners for taking American jobs, don't complain to President Obama, but complain to the heads of these businesses - if you want Americans to have these jobs, then plan on paying more for your groceries and hotel rooms.
It is a shame that he (Obama) has to resorted to cheap, cheap tactics. We all know that Obama is not doing his job. In the almost 4 years of his reign he has sent out over 100 executive orders. He has ignored what the WE THE PEOPLE want. He is more intrested in playing golf and telling people we have no rights. Im sorry but he has failed at almost every turn.
Stop blaming other people for all of the woes. You (Obama) wanted the job, you got it.
Gee Becky...
Oxymoron there or just ignorance?
Obviously "over 100 executive orders" from the Chief Executive disproves the first statement.
And just curious...
What is your opinion of the previous eight years? Do YOU believe "WE THE PEOPLE" were ever ignored then; maybe when this nation was forced into Iraq at the cost of several trillion dollars and some 5,000 American lives....?
pleeeaze!
SRAGAN, you're suspended for a week for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
I'm afraid the solution to these issues is not the massive redistribution of wealth from the middle class we would see in "Trickle Down Economics 2.0".
Hussein? That's an old and childish shot from the fox think-tank. Hey guys, his middle name is Hussein! He's not like white people, there's a bad guy with that name! Grow up.
Yep, every time I see someone spell out "Barack Hussein Obama" I immediately disregard anything they say because I know it will simply be nothing but Sean Hannity induced Reich-wing lies.
Yep, every time I see someone spell out "teabaggers" I immediately disregard anything they say because I know it will simply be nothing but Chrissy Matthews induced left wing lies.
If your comment is based on the assumption that I'm a "lefty"... you assumed wrong.
Hussein....No that is not old.... It is a Muslim NAME..... keep veting the President...
And he is also Muslim!!!! hahahahahahahahah
Hussein is an Arabic name. Contrary to popular belief in America, Arabic and Muslim are not necessarily the same thing.
give it up, heartlight 3. sragan is an inmate, serving time in prison and hired by Karl Rove to spend his day posting childish crap to deflect from the weaknesses of the right wing philosophy.
Here's to hoping that one day, when you need medical attention (like a rectal exam, or in your case a brain scan), a Muslim doctor has to treat you.
I agree, every alien of this Country should repatriate to thier Origins and return American to the its real Patriots, The Native Indians. They thrived here for Centuries until we Burned, Raped and Pilaged. We are all Illegal Aliens and if a God does exist justice shall be served.
"His Judgement Cometh and that right soon".
The Native Americans' ancestors walked across a land bridge from Asia, so they're going to have to leave too.
And the europeans came from Africa, they should go back there too.
Matter of fact, everyone came from Africa orginally, everyone should go back.
That 'land bridge from Asia' crap is just that, crap.
flbickerchick & Hank - My point exactly, we all came from somewhere and when it gets to the philosophical question of who belongs here, well I'm not sure any of us can claim, we do!
I understand we have laws but at this point we have 11 million illegals in our Country! They will never be deported, we don't have the resources or any practical way of completing such a feat. So lets stop with the non-sense and come up with a realistic practical plan so we can move forward.
YEA RIGHT, that will happen!
Kevin, you are one of the few I've seen actually acknowledge that mass deportation will not work. Not only do we lack the resources/practical means, but what makes us think other countries "of origin" are going to allow us across the border, landing rights, etc.? The answer is, they probably won't.
The problem of illegal immigration will only be solved when it is no longer a good place for illegals to be. The laws we have currently in place will work .. if they are ENFORCED.
A. If illegals are working for a business or an individual the business or individual receives a stiff fine (base the fine on a percentage of income). Second offense, jail. Deport the illegals, because it can be done in small numbers.
B. Do not allow the children of illegals to enroll in school (grandfather in current enrollments, NO new ones). Do not allow health care for illegals UNLESS it is life or death (deport when stabilized) OR a public health issue (like immunization).
If we make it undesirable to be here, people won't come. That's the stick.
Here's the carrot ...
A. I actually do agree not to punish the children for the parents. If they are already in school, allow them to stay and get a work permit if they remain in good standing with the school and out of legal problems. Allow them to work for five years and apply for a green card. It's the right thing to do. We ARE supposed to be a compassionate country.
B. Establish a much easier method to come to the U.S. for menial labor jobs such as migrant farming. Company A requests 200 workers for six months of farming. The state department confirms and then sends the request to the embassies. Any worker with no criminal background can apply for a temporary work permit FOR THAT JOB. They come, work and send money to their families, go home when it's done. After five years, if they have a good history, no criminal background and demonstrate a working knowledge of English, they can apply for a green card.
This allows companies to get the labor they need, but they will have to pay at least minimum wage and a fee to the government for the paperwork on each worker. The worker will benefit because s/he is here legally AND protected by workplace law. Government/local areas will benefit because the worker will pay taxes, spend money locally, but will NOT bring a family so no kids to strain the school system.
This is a win-win situation. Of course it involves compromise, so it will never happen.
Absolute APPLAUSE From Texas.
We can't afford to have BUSH 3 in the WhiteHouse. We are not a corporation which is exactly what Romney wants to turn this country into.
We damn sure can't afford the same dumb 1/2 Black man in the white house that has drove use into this ditch...
Four years of this fool is enough....
and 1 comment from a bigot is enough for eternity.
I wish there was another category to flag these comments: blatant, flat-out lie.

Are you a Christian? If you are, then act like one and quit being so hateful.
Gov. Romney and das Republik Party advocate a return to the failed policies of the Pres. George Bush, Jr. administration. End of story.
Skip1 .... You must be gay!!!
Failed policies.... Bo one has done it better than your bafoon of a president...
Sragan - is it possible for you to make a point? Or do you just spew hatred and ignorance? (Sorry, dumb question).
The point is.... We have a failed President... Must people can understand that now.. They voted for him so they wouldn't be a racist... Now they need to voted for someone else to prove they are not a loser or a taker...
Typical now they are not listening to the people who really run the country the democrat and republican parties head honcho.. this is going to be excting,, People vote you mind not all the misinformation that is being put out by the Gop and democrats!!!
I'll be glad when this election is over. Then Mitt Romney can go back to sucking off the billionaires who made him a multi-millionaire.
I'll be glad when this election is over. Then Obama can go back to sucking off the millionaires in Chicago, back to Acorn. That's what he's good at, he certainly has failed big time at running a country.
Me too... then Mittens can go back to Bain and bleed more successful companies try, take out huge debt on them, file bankruptcy and we can pay for it.
I'll be glad when a deadly virus figures out how to target political polarization and takes all you morons out!
Then the rest of us can breathe.
hahaha! James Griffin, best post I've seen in a long while!
And Obama can go back to smoking pot, doing coke, eating dog, bowing to stinkin Muslims...
What is so interesting about this is, anybody who has been conscious at all over the last 15 years would know that it has been the Republicans who have unleashed the sewer rat mentality when it comes to Politics. But, when the Democrats are forced to play the game too, these Right Wing bottom dwellers scream in feigned outrage. This is now the Republican Party that only survives in the lap of ignorance and hatred.

Screw both candidates, and both parties. We need a leader, and neither one of these two is qualified. And neither the GOP nor the Democrats can provide one. We need to abolish political parties and elect candidates based on their merits, not the letter next to their name.
So whou are you suggesting flbikerchick?
What a cheap ass shot. Everybody knows, dog's live to hang their heads out windows, it did not hurt the dog to ride on top of the car. LOL Jeesh. Between Obama bending over for Latino's and Gay's, he should be in fine form to sit down for awhile. Look's like Obama's somebodies lap dog now.
hey, a Republican leader from the past said it... nuff said!
When you do everything possible to keep someone from accomplishing goals which would serve the majority who elected him- and then attempt to define the consequences of your nihilistic meddling as his failure- you've clearly confused the stewardship you were elected to accomplish with inflicting misery on most for the benefit of a few who might fund your next election campaign.
What's sad is the fact that a very vocal 20% or so of the people whose lives you've destroyed, along with the economy, still believe in you.
They'd vote for you again.
Still, there are signs of hope, even among the abysmally ignorant- because that used to be a far larger figure.
The TEA party used to have credibility, too- before a divided right-wing House demonstrated in terms anyone could grasp that they were willing to wreck the world to save it- by ruining Obama.
Who cares if the elderly have no Social Security after a lifetime of contributions?
Who cares if they have medical care that won't force them to choose between meals and medicine?
Who cares if Republicans espouse Christianity- while pursuing the corporate agendas of greed incarnate?
I believe they're about to find out, come November.
FeO2 (Rusty) Dreams
ditto on all you wrote
The actual Tea Party Movement is alive and well. The ones who claim are part of the Tea Party, the ones up in Washington has lost their way. Pretty topical, once they hit Washington they become part of the corruption.
Regardless of who you support for President; This country can not continue with the present entitlement mentality. There are women/men making babies so the governement gimme programs will support them. Their offspring follow suit and we have lifer entitlement families every where. There is no gentle way to change that thinking. CUT THE CORD! President Obama doesn't have the nards to do it, nor the authority nor the respect of Congress and Senate members to bring about that kind of change. The Democrats won't allow it either. I didn't work fifty years so the lazy guy down the street could live the same lifestyle I do. He needs to earn his way.
If he is legitimately unable to work at all I willl help keep him from starving and help give him protection from the elements. He won't smoke, drink booze, talk his cell phone, house phone or watch cable TV on my dime, unless I personally decide to provide it. The Governemnt has NO right to tax us to support their collective versions of fighting poverty. They aren't any smarter than us.
I will help the old, the infirm and the disabled. The rest can get jobs, grab their bootstraps and get to it.
That has to be the stupidest, most uninformed, ignorant, blind, callous and uncaring tirade against public assistance I have ever heard! And I'm not saying that to offend you at all.
truth and facts are calloused no doubt but they are what they are....facts...we are a welfare state promoting more welfare and encouraging more welfare and class warfare...give me give me give me more and more.
According to 60 minutes, over 17 MILLION children are homeless in America. This situation exists because of self centered, heartless people like you who care only for the almighty dollar. The only way to grow the middle class is by helping to lift people up from poverty. The top wage earners are not volunteering to move down. Meanwhile, according to folks like you, we should just let these innocent, homeless children starve in America, the richest country in the world. What have we come to be? Compassionless, greedy fools. We should be ashamed.
Remember how Obama got elected? A relative unknown with almost zero experience wins because his predecessor did such a bad job. Same thing will allow Romney to win in November. The cycle continues.
Romney is not unknown, however, has mucho experience in running things and I haven't heard from anyone as yet that he may be a Muslim... those are good things, yes?
We are fighting Muslims on several fronts and people of the faith constantly attack us. I don't label all Muslimbelievers as the enemy but I am wary. I believe Obama is at heart a Muslim.
All the countries like England followed the republican plan of austerity and now are in another recession and America is not.
If we were in another recession I would think that President Obama did a bad job, but we are not. But the policies that the republicans are pushing, proof being the Ryan budget, voted on purpose to bring another recession to America even after the republicans have seen what their same policies are doing to England.
The republicans don't have a clue as to how to run our country. Do you really think it is good policy to bankrupt America for more tax cuts for the rich as if that is the only problem we face?
If bush did such a bad job then why are the republicans bringing back the failed policies of bush? Then the republicans want to pass themselves off as the smart ones as if bringing a recession to America on purpose is smart.
Obama appointed a Presidential Commission to recommend tax and spending adjustments to bring the Federal budget under control before we become Greece. They developed an excellent plan, but he does not have the courage to push for enacting it.
He knows what needs to be done, and refuses to take the necessary steps. He prefers to attack his opponent. I think that disqualifies him from being re-elected.
The only ones that can implement that plan is congress. And the repubs said from day one that they wouldn't let it pass.
It had tax increases and they owe their allegiance to Norquist, not the country.
Obama can't even come up with a budget, he doesn't have a clue. You gonna blame Congress for that too? Or maybe it's Bush's fault.
It is the republicans in congress fault that they think protecting the rich is more important than getting our people back to work. It is a sad day when tax cuts for the rich is more important than improving the economy in America.
Republicans think that tax cuts for the rich is more important than feeding our poor. After the republicans crashed our economy and killed millions of jobs. They think the answer is to take food out of the mouths of children so Romney can have more tax cuts.
The republicans also think that taking care away from our wounded veterans is okay being the money is going to Romney via tax cuts.
How dumb do you have to be to believe that republicans care about America or her people?
VOTE FOR AMERICAN FREEDOM...VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
Never knew presidents came up with budgets.
Crystal, living life off a daily dose of fox news
Typical Obama voter. Get a clue:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/may/16/obama-budget-defeated-99-0-senate/
President Obama's budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it.
Coupled with the House's rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama's budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year
So he did come up with a budget, or, I thought you said he can't come up with a budget...
Which is it?
Bill-6110316
Excellent post.
Don't most presidents and presidential candidates seem to cater to the illegal immigrants during election years for the past 10 years or so? Makes me sick. Why do we have immigration laws if we don't follow them? If many voters are like me, I'm not too thrilled with our choices for president this year...more of the same, or change to the past or just undo what Obama's passed the past 3.5 years. Wow.
Hey if you want to break it down, Romney may be Barak 2.0 BUT I would vote for an elm tree before I would vote for the mindless, ignorant, commie that has our country more divided than it has been in my 60 years of life. Screw another 4 years of stupidity...............You lemmings are on notice-Huessien-will be put out with the rest of the trash and kicked hard to the curb
Wow, the commie fear card and me with no desk to climb under.
Here you have bought the republican scam hook, line and sinker and then you call us lemmings.
You with voting for a republican are voting to end America as we know it and to give it to the rich. Then the rich can make money on privatized education, make money on privatized medicare, make money on privatizing our post office so the rich make the money and not the employees.
Killing the middle class for the rich, I wonder what could go wrong with that plan?
Union jobs puts more money in the pocket of the people and a better economy, but the republicans prefer to kill unions and the middle class for more tax cuts for Romney and his rich friends.
If tax cuts created jobs we would be rolling in them. That is the republicans only plan for jobs is more tax cuts for the rich. These same policies created another recession in England, but the republicans never let the facts get in the way of a good scam. Then dwiley likes to pretend he is not the real lemming here.
Hussein has already been executed after his trial in an Iraqi court. This is an article about Romney and Obama.

Once again our "politics" have sunk into two political parties trying to gain control. Money drives them both as they jockey for position to see who will profit the most from selling their wares to rich interests. The rich interests own their own news outlets who fuel the mindless debates about simplistic issues. Voters have turned into sheep that blindly follow their fathers' party. Even the Supreme Court is now divided between the parties. The system is broken! The only thing I can see to help us dig ourselves out of this mess is to make political parties illegal and put rules in place that truly punish those politicians that break them. Politicians should represent their voters...not their political parties, or rich interests, or powerful political pundits. Ever notice how the parties and the limited number of interests that control them are exceedingly similar to the communist parties that ran USSR and still runs China today? We need a citizen driven constitutional amendment that breaks this traitorous process down and prevents it from happening again.
@Crystal, grow up already!!! I am not exactly thrilled with what Pres Obama did yesterday but I would rather have him as President than someone who says corporations are people too, really??? I don't think so! Romney wants to put us back in Iraq, and if that alone would be the case then he needs to send his sons over there first before anyone else, period! Georgie Boy was not exactly a good President by any means so lets get that straight k.
Pot meet kettle. Like it or not, George was raised in politics and knew the job. Obama was a stoner who hooked up with some Chicago money and bought on election, so let's get that straight- k?
OMG Obama must go.
LOL Crystal, you say obama bought the election with 700 MIllion, but yet you produce NO proof....
Georgie was raised in politics and knew what he was doing?
I am guessing you also don't believe that Georgie put our country into a recession. Or that we were in deep do-do due to the republicans driving our deficit up to the largest in our history with tax cuts during war time.
We are still trying to recover from the mess that Georgie left and you want us to believe he knew what he was doing? So are you really telling us that Georgie and the republicans destroyed our economy on purpose because they knew what they were doing and meant to?
More proof the republicans are the party of more hate than brains.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court
justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly,
legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that
plague this country. And that includes the morons that have been in for a lifetime like Pelousy 40+ years, Barney Frank 40+ years, Kennedy was in for almost 50 years, what a joke.
But you can continue to blame Bush if that's easier for you lick Obama's boots.
LOL itsAboutTime - you want proof, google "Cost of the 2008 presidential campaign." Obama spent about $740.6 Million, outspent McCain 4 to 1. Remember Obama promised he would accept public financing and after McCain agreed to public financing, Obama backed out.
Nice plagiarism of the Charlie Reese column written in 1983.

and the source of your information is? Or is it to hard to post a link that supports the facts. Oh and thanks to the GOP Citizens United.... hmmmm... guess it doesn't matter how much ANYONE spends on an election right?
Crystal-569996
and 300+ million Americans have a responsibility here and ALL American Corporations. Remember, according to the GOP they are people to right?
ItsAboutTime - I guess you are to stupid to google it like I mentioned in my previous post. Also quit using the Citizens United ruling. You are a typical left wing cry baby, it's the law of the law, deal with it.
Oh I see.... so if Obama follows the law, its wrong... if the GOP follows the law, its right.
There's no cry baby here.. its RIGHTIES not able to follow the facts and the truth
Boy some of you President haters are pretty funny, bringing up drugs and talking about sewer rats bring the facts to light, you just hate.
Please turn off the faux noise off, start doing some reading!
When dealing with the turd in the White House the only positve action that can be taken is to push the flush lever. He has no respect for anything AMERICAN except power and money.
Name one President (or candidate even) in the last 60 years who you could NOT say that about.
Can someone name one, just ONE political candidate, running for ANY state or national office, from ANY party, who actually ran a positive campaign? I don't mean just declared that this was what they were going to do, but actually DID it. When they even bother to say they're going to, it usually lasts about 2 weeks, after which they haul in the mud, claiming they are just responding to the other candidate's negativity. And laughably, we buy it!!!
Anyone who honestly believes either of these schmucks will actually run a positive campaign is exactly the kind of idiot they hope you are, because those are the ones who vote for them. The whole lot of them need to be dragged out and thoroughly bitch-slapped.
The "system" under which we elect our government officials, and by which they govern, is unbelievably corrupt, severely broken and is in all likelihood far beyond repair. It simply needs to be scrapped in favor of one that more truly and honestly represents the people, one that doesn't take $400 million to get elected into and that allows NO lobbying, NO 'special interests', NO PACs, and no benefits that make it so lucrative that a person would spend that $400 million to get a job that (officially anyway) pays $400,000 a year or less. Come on!
If you're a Democrat and you think Obama truly represents YOUR interests, you're either delusional or thoroughly deceived or both. If you're a Republican and you believe Romney truly represents YOUR interests, you're either delusional or thoroughly deceived or both. Can't you see they are just two sides of the same coin? I mean, really, can't you? And if you think the 'Tea Party' is the answer, then you're a moron. I'm not saying that to be mean, it just is. If you're Liberal/Conservative/Moderate/Independent, then you're the victim of the ultimate deception; label each other and then fight each other over stupid and meaningless ideals while ALL the politicians fatten themselves from the EXACT SAME PUBLIC TROUGH!
The most effective thing American politics has EVER done is blind the hell out of the masses!
We will never know if Obama's stimulus packages would have help this country more or less, Congress never gave them the chance. Congress has been saying from day one this will be a one term president and they have done everything they can to make that happen, even at the expense of American jobs and lives. The Republican Party has a write to be upset with Romney, he hasn't shown anyone he is capable of running anything other than a business and we all know their is a lot more to being a President.
I am happy to say that I and a bunch of other people here in the Raleigh, NC area benefited from the stimulus package. I was out of work for 26 months.YEP unemployment ran out, sold my grandmother's antiques, furniture and everything else to pay rent and keep a home for my kids. Single parents have few help options.
Health insurance? Romney is sniffing or shooting something to believe people (millions) had a choice but NO insurance. This guy has never had to decide the following: rent/mortgage, food, car payment, car insurance, life insurance, health insurance (COBRA was 900 per month of my total income of 2000) sorry...folks...this guy is on drugs or something! With rent and utilities at 1600/month does anyone know math enough enough to figure there was NOT enough for COBRA?
I am owed more than 22K in child support. Good luck there! Typical NC (southern state) collection activity. WHICH is ... none.
Romney is ignorant and SO out of touch with a typical (50% or more) of the population of America he is a joke.
