With Texas win, Romney secures delegates to win nomination

Justin Sullivan / Getty Images

Mitt Romney walks to an awaiting car after walking off of his campaign plane at McCarran International Airport on May 29, 2012 in Las Vegas.

Updated 9:45 p.m. ET -- Mitt Romney won the Republican primary in Texas on Tuesday, a victory that gives him more than the 1,144 delegates needed to secure his party's presidential nomination.

Following a bruising primary season earlier this year that extended longer than many Republicans had hoped, NBC News projected that Romney had finally won the necessary delegates to secure the nomination, though the former Massachusetts governor won’t earn the official nod until August's Republican National Convention in Tampa.

The race for the Republican nomination has been largely over since the April 3 primary in Wisconsin. Romney's win in that contest prompted the eventual withdrawals of his remaining rivals: Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul. It also hastened the onset of President Barack Obama's own re-election offensive versus Romney.

"I am honored that Americans across the country have given their support to my candidacy and I am humbled to have won enough delegates to become the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nominee," Romney said in a statement Tuesday evening. "Our party has come together with the goal of putting the failures of the last three and a half years behind us."

Romney spent the evening at a closed-doors fundraiser in Las Vegas with Gingrich and reality television star Donald Trump.

While conservatives appear to have rallied behind the former Massachusetts governor, the long campaign season was not without its consequences for Romney.

The Republican has been fundraising aggressively to make up for money spent during the nomination battle, which depleted, in part, his relative financial parity versus Obama.

Appearing at a campaign event is Las Vegas, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney tells supporters that he will focus on putting Americans back to work if he is elected president.

But more significantly, the Obama campaign has been turning some of the most stinging attacks on Romney from other Republicans and revived them for use in the general election.

"I have no illusions about the difficulties of the task before us. But whatever challenges lie ahead, we will settle for nothing less than getting America back on the path to full employment and prosperity," Romney said in his victory statement. "On November 6, I am confident that we will unite as a country and begin the hard work of fulfilling the American promise and restoring our country to greatness.”

Case-in-point: the Obama campaign has spent much of the past two weeks attacking Romney's experience at Bain Capital, the private equity firm Romney had co-founded. That is a line of attack first advanced by Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry in January.

Romney's continued advantage versus Obama, though, lies with an economic recovery that still rests on precarious footing.

May's NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that half of Americans judged last month's jobs report as unsatisfactory. That dampened optimism for a recovery -- and, in turn, for Obama -- could become a potent political weapon for Romney, especially if continued economic unrest in Europe slows the pace of the recovery in the U.S.

Romney and Obama both support debt based fractional reserve banking (The FED).

Our tax money pays off the interest off the debt that is created through this system.

We are stuck in a vicious cycle with 2 of the establishment candidates ready to keep the cycle going...

There are good reasons to cast doubt on Romney's economic policies which are pretty much the same as those of Bush's that had caused this recession in the first place.

There is no reason to go back to the same failed GOP policies.

The moment Romney clinches the nomination is the highest point he can ever reach, it's time to start the long downward journey toward his certain failure in November 2012.

Well, of course, let's keep blaming Bush! How many years later is this now? All I can say is if Obama wins again everyone can kiss the American way - freedom, Democracy, the constitution, all of it - goodbye! He is taking this country down the path of socialism and will stop at nothing to get us there....so just go ahead and vote for him if you don't give a hoot about what our troops fought for in WWI, WWII, and so on and so on....including those who are currently fighting terrorism.

I, for one, will vote for the Republican nominee - no matter what (even though Romney isn't the one I wanted) JUST to see Obama out of MY White House!!!

Pigotry - You don't seem to know much about recent history. The economic meltdown was not caused by Bush's economic policies. This was caused by the mortgage crisis created by Clinton. Not that it was that bad of a plan, but the bankers and mortgage lenders bent the rules and abused the system.

Marlie, calm down and listen to yourself. Socialism is a matter of degree; providing oil companies with $4 billion to offset their costs for exploration is socialism, is it not? That little gift did not come from Obama, it came from Bush.

Going to war on two fronts while lowering nominal tax rates equals a $4 trillion dollar hole that the Obama Administration has inherited. And once he got that little gift from Bush, Obama insisted that the war costs be placed on budget (Bush never had those costs on budget and simply borrowed money after Congress passed a series of Continuing Resolutions.)

As for fighting terrorism, even Colin Powell now admits that Iraq has never been involved in terrorist activities against the United States, like some of our 'allies' such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have.

In any event, take a walk and smell the wonderful Spring air!

Eric V-1040616...

the mortgage crisis is created by Republicans' favorite institution - the 'perfect' market - including mortgage bankers.

If you want to identify a president to blame, it's Bush, not Clinton.

Clinton had a dot-com bubble & a minor bust (2000-2001) and tons of budget surplus (3-4 years, the first since Ike).

Bush had a housing bubble (2003-07) & a fatal bust (since 2007)

Even if you want to blame Clinton on anything, it's the GOP majority after 1995 that did most damage - for example Texas Senator Phil Gramm pushed for the end of Glass-Steagal which protected commercial banking from the destructive speculative investment banking.

Obviously politicians from Texas did not of the damages (Bush, Bush, and Phil Gramm, for example).

Romney has put former Bush foreign advisory people in place for his advisors...we want more of Iraq again...I don't think so... Remember this?.. The whole world knows Bush deliberately used old false intel to get the war he wanted so he could be known as a"War President because war presidents are remembered," Bush/Cheney wanted Haliburton to profit, the oil companies to profit....but the knucklehead forgot one thing.......It's called a plan......So his cabinet gave him a war and Haliburton profited superb from it. Colin Powell was lied to and quit and lost all respect in the world because of Bush.

Search the U tube video where Bush makes fun of all the soldiers serving in Iraq. Bush gives speech to repubs and starts looking under podium, tables, chairs as if he can't find what he is looking for. Then stands in front of podium and gives @!$%#ty grin and says, No weapons of mass destruction there.! Laughing in the faces of all soldiers who died and will still die because of wounds from Iraq, all the wounded and their families, laughs at the camera and you as if saying....so what! What are you going to do about it? You wnt to repeat this under Romney with Bush people?....DUH!

Chester the molester, police are socialized control(a socialist form of government agency paid for by tax payers that were not given a choice) Roads charge everyone by using tax dollars to maintain them without tax payers consent. Social security is not socialized retirement. It is paid for by the tax payers and gets a return on investment of 7.2% which is better than United Airlines did when the chumped everyone out of their retirement benefits that they were under contract to provide and handed the bill to tax payers while the CEO raised his pay from 7.5 million to 35.5 million dollars a year plus bennies. SO that's your idea of private free market? You are certainly an ID10T! Was Bush's bailout of the banks socialism? Tax payer money for the wealthy because they don't have enough! Bush's tax cuts that were unfunded cost the U.S. 2/3 or the national debt per year and the money had to be borrowed to pay for them. Now that is fiscal responsibility! So let's outlaw all the behavior that you don't feel is moral, deregulate all the large corps so they can make contracts with employees and break them when every they want, borrow money to subsidize the wealthy, let them pay just fractions of the percentages of income tax that the middle class has to pay, and we can all pretend that fascism is so much better!

The scary thing is that before the 2d term the Dems couldn't and didn't find somebody! Its different now with Obama but, the history repeating thing is spooky. Naw, it couldn't happen! Romney? It isn't the best we have now but, its not broke so bad that we need to make a REALLY BIG MISTAKE! BTW The best example of Bush was his way of saying "HUH?"

Romney has admitted to having Bank accounts in the Cayman Islands AND in Switzerland..........

When he was Governor of Massachusetts, the administrative jobs which he doled out, almost ALL went to out-of state Mormons, who moved to Massachusetts and boggled much up, as they were uninformed outsiders...not bad people, just immature, poorly educated outsiders....

He stated "I am very pleased with our very STRONG GUN laws here in Massachusetts", and on another occasion "I support a womans right to choose abortion or birth control, it's her body.", and on yet another occasion "I am in favor of Stem Cell research, and here in Massachusetts, we can be at the forefront of stem-cell discoveries."

Romney has been silent about all the Birther Crap, because his Dad, Gov. George Romney, ran for President in 1964, despite the fact that Gov. Romney was born on a Mormon Polygamist compound in Mexico, was a Mexican citizen and did not move to the USA till he was 6 years old.

Then too, he may be embarrassed because Sen. John McCain (R), ran for President of the USA vs Obama in 2008, even though McCain was NOT born in the USA, either..he was born in Panama.....

Sen. Barry Goldwater (R), the man who won the Republican nomination for President in 1964, also was NOT born in the USA.....

And tens of thousands of republican knuckle-heads lobbied Congress 5 or 6 years ago to alter the US Constitution, so as to allow foreigners to run for President, as their favorite Nazi-Boy, Arnold Swartzeneggger, was making noise about how he'd love to be President, despite his birth in Austria...his father was, literally, one of Hitlers Stormtroopers...

When GWB took office, the National Debt was about $5.7 Trillion.

When Obama took office, it was about $10 Trillion.

So about 4.3 Trillion increase in 8 years, or an average of a little more than $500 Billion per year.

National Debt is now nearly $16 Trillion. In 3.5 years, it has gone up about $6 Trillion, which is an average of about $1,700 Billion per year.

342,000 workers left the workforce completely because they can’t find a job at all. And that’s just for the month of April!

America has experienced a net decline of 1.8 million jobs so far in 2012.

22.8 million Americans are either unemployed or underemployed (that’s 14.8% unemployment, according to BLS)

The U.S. economy is currently 10 million jobs short of the number needed to get back to pre-recession levels; and 80% of jobs created since June 2009 have been purely temporary in nature. (USA has also slipped to 5th in World rankings)

Record number of Americans on Food Stamps.

Of the few jobs that have been added, most of them are low-wage jobs, which likely explains the declines in payroll taxes which Obama has been trying to spin in his argument to raise taxes.

Four years into Obama’s “recovery,” economic growth is averaging a miniscule 2 percent. The president’s puny recovery has been devastating for all Americans, including young people and minorities who can’t find jobs as well as seniors who rely on badly under-funded programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

Good intentions are not a substitute for a strong and growing economy....you have a better chance of winning the lottery, than Obama "fixing" the economy.

Leave it to MSNBC to get it wrong again... Either that or continue to spew propaganda... Ron Paul has NOT withdrawn himself from the primary. He has only ceased campaigning. Believe it or not, he still has a very plausible chance to actually get nominated for the Republican ticket.

And he is the only candidate who is not bought and paid for by the banks and big business.

A couple of points to tick off both sides of this political farce. One, Bush and the GOP kept the costs of the two wars off the books so it would not count against the debt. Sorry about that GOP fans. Two, both sides are buying the White House - and the focus of everyday folks should be your own local, backyard elections. The changes to voting laws and women's rights are happening in the local statehouses, not in Washington. All Washington wants is your money and power, not the good of the people. All of you who carp you want your country back (although I question some on what year they want to go back to), better start looking in your own backyard for the change you are whining for. While sad, many times, in facing my own mortality, it is times like this I so appreciate the clarity I get when looking at the politics of today.

Obama debt is from Bush policies. Bush spent money recklessly and irresponsibly and threw that debt on the next Pres, Obama. Now he is being responsible and handling the debt and policies as best he can and you blame him like he caused the current situation! It's like renting an appartment, trashing it and ruining all of the appliances, leaving the water running and the heat cranked full, and then blaming the new tenant that just moved in for all of the damage. Then when he tries to fix it you complain about the money he spends.

Look at the details and you will learn the truth in how much debt came from actual Obama policies. It's the least spent in a long time. He has bent backwards to do exactly what repubs want but it doesn't matter because, just be honest with yourselves, it's because he is a black Dem. That's your real problem with Obama, right? Once you start looking at his presidency with pro active intelligent, and unbiased eyes you will see that maybe you were misinformed about the facts. Don't let Fox News do your thinking for you because basically it makes you look dumb just like them. Is he perfect, no. But, do you really believe that Romney is the better choice? Now? I think a little consistency might be a good thing for the country. Try thinking with your brain instead of your prejudice. Please!

I can't figure it out. What is going on here in Texas with my fellow Texans. All these Republicans that are running for office are the biggest cheats, liars, back stabbing, Unpatriotic bunch I have ever saw in my life. And you love them!?!? Is your Daddy threatening to whip you still if you vote the good guy? Romney would not make a good choice. CEOs do not have what it takes to be a President of this or any other country. He took Mass. from the 34th state on job creation and hiring to 46th. There are only 50 states. I guess he did not which end of the scale he was suppose to head for. He also increased sale tax in a state that has the highest sales tax in the country. He is backed by Donald (take your product to China and have it made, don't worry about jobs in your own country) Trump. Since Donald Trump loves the Chinese so much, I wished he would hop his plane ,go there and stay. If you are not loyal to your own country and the people of your country, I can only think of him as a Communist. His actions tells me what he is.

Obama 2012? Does that mean Bush will finally be out or does that mean that Bush would have won a 4th term. I'm confused! Is Obama going to try to do the next 4 on his own or is Bush going to be there again giving all the marching orders again?

Obama is victim of Bush's failed
          promises
          . By a
          democrat reporter, Chuck Green.

I think it is time that we asked George
Bush to step aside so that Obama can get his presidency going.

Here's an opinion piece by Chuck Green who
writes "Greener Pastures" for the Denver Post Aurora Sentinel...one of the more
liberal papers in the country. Additionally, Mr. Green is a lifelong
Democrat...so this is rather a stunning piece...

          Obama is victim of
          Bush's failed promises!

Barack Obama is setting a record-setting
number of records during his first term in office:

Largest budget ever. Largest deficit ever.
Largest number of broken promises ever.

          Most self-serving speeches ever. Largest
number of agenda-setting failures ever. Fastest dive in popularity
          ever!

          Wow! Talk about change.

Just over two years ago, fresh from
his inauguration celebrations, President Obama was flying high. After one of the
nation's most inspiring political campaigns, the election of America’s first
black president had captured the hopes and dreams of millions. To his devout
followers, it was inconceivable that a year later his administration would be
          gripped in self-imposed crisis.

Of course, they don't see it as
          self-imposed. It's all George Bush's fault!

          George Bush, who doesn't have
a vote in congress and who no longer occupies

The White House is to blame for it
          all.

He broke Obama's promise, to put all bills on the White House web
site for five days before signing them.

He broke Obama's promise, to have
the congressional health care negotiations broadcast live on C-SPAN.

          He
broke Obama's promise, to end earmarks.

He broke Obama's promise, to keep
unemployment from rising above 8 percent.

          He broke Obama's promise, to
close the detention center at Guantanamo in the first year.

          He broke
Obama's promise, to make peace with direct; no precondition talks with America’s
most hate-filled enemies during his first year in office, ushering in a new era
          of global cooperation.

He broke Obama's promise, to end the hiring of
former lobbyists into high White House jobs.

          He broke Obama's promise, to
end no-compete contracts with the government.

          He broke Obama's promise,
to disclose the names of all attendees at closed White House meetings.

          He
broke Obama's promise, for a new era of bipartisan cooperation in all
          matters.

He broke Obama's promise, to have chosen a home church to attend
Sunday services with his family by Easter.

          Yes, it's all George Bush's
fault! President Obama is nothing more than a puppet in the never-ending failed
Bush administration. If only George Bush wasn't still in charge, all of
President Obama's problems would be solved. His promises would have been kept,
the economy would be back on track, Iran would have stopped its work on
developing a nuclear bomb and would be negotiating a peace treaty with Israel.
North Korea would have ended its tyrannical regime, and integrity would have
been restored to the federal government.

Oh, and did I mention what it
would be like, if the Democrats, under the leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry
Reid, didn't have the heavy yoke of George Bush around their necks? There would
be no ear marks, no closed-door drafting of bills, no increase in deficit
spending, no special-interest influence (unions), no vote buying ( Nebraska,
          Louisiana ).

If only George Bush wasn't still in charge, we'd have real
          change by now.

All the broken promises, all the failed legislation and
delay (health care reform, immigration reform) is not President Obama's fault or
the fault of the Democrat-controlled Congress. It's all George Bush's
          fault!

Take for example the attempt of Eric Holder, the president's attorney general,
to hold terrorists' trials in New York City. Or his decision to try the
Christmas Day underpants bomber as a civilian.

          Two disastrous
          decisions.

Certainly those were bad judgments based on poor advice from
          George Bush!

          Need more proof?

          You might recall
when Scott Brown won the election to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts,
capturing "The Ted Kennedy Seat", President Obama said, Brown's victory was the
result of the same voter anger that propelled Obama into office in 2008. People
were still angry about George Bush and the policies of the past 10 years. And
          they wanted change.

Yes, according to the president, the voter rebellion
in Massachusetts, was George Bush's fault.

          Therefore, in retaliation,
they elected a Republican to the Ted Kennedy seat, ending a half-century of
domination by Democrats. It is all George Bush's fault!

Will the failed administration of George
Bush ever end, and the time for hope and change ever arrive???

          Will
President Obama ever accept responsibility for something / anything?

(Chuck Green is a veteran Colorado
journalist and former editor-in-chief of The Denver Post.)

              a) tan in a can

              b) bake tan

              c) some kind of fake tan because nothing else about him is real

              d) all of the above

You liberal birthers really make me laugh. Yes, Mitt Romney's father was born in Mexico, but both parents are US Citizens; therefore he was a naturalize citizen. Yes, John McCain was born in Panama, because his father was a naval officer of a submarine based in Coco Solo Naval Air Station. Again both parents US Citizens and born on a US military base; therefore he was a naturalize citizen. Is this all you have to talk about. I guess I would too if my candidate has led us to 8 - 10% unemployment rates for 3.5 years, over 8 million people given up on ever finding work, and trillion dollar deficits every year.

Mitt Romney was a Draft-evader during the VietNam War, when 3 million of my generation served in the military, myself included, I was drafted 2 months before my college graduation.

Romney has 5 sons...Mitt counseled the 5 of them that.."the military is an option for working class kids, you'll all have TOO fine an educational background for the army, don't even think about it."

How can Obama continue to lie to the American people about being fiscally responsible while racking up 5 TRILLION (that's hundreds and hundreds of BILLIONs for the simpletons out there) of DEBT on our kid's and grandkid's backs.

Obama wants to move "Forward" does he... can wait til Mitt sends him forward, back to Chicago.

Milivolt..... Obama trained lawyers in ACRON to strong arm banks to give people not qualified for them the loans anyway...... do you see how that ties into the mortgage meltdown. That in conjunction with the Clinton initiativies loosening loan standards. In the end, ACORN got in trouble for voter fraud, which Holder still believes doesn't exist. Are you not able to do your own research?

On the debt thing... please... the war cost is a pee hole in the snow compared to the overall debt Obama has tallied. Didn't get far in math I'm guessing.

Romney's Bain Capital Caused Mass Layoffs, Sent Jobs Overseas
Thousands of Americans were laid off by Bain Capital at companies it purchased, managed, and, at least a quarter of the time, drove into bankruptcy, ruining Lives, Destroying Careers and Families including Many Many Suicides While stuffing his pockets, Keeping his Darling son OUT of service to his country with the line "My son is Fulfilling his Patriotic Duty by helping me get elected"...Got that one?? and, Of Course, installing the InHouse car elevator for his "darling little boy's $180,000Ferrari....Listen Up People...This guy IS Count Dracula In carnate

In the end, ACORN got in trouble for voter fraud, which Holder still believes doesn't exist.

ACORN was cleared, not only by the GAO, but also four different independent investigations by various state and city Attorneys General.

Let's see...the ONLY thing the federal government should be doing for us, according to our Constitution, is protect us-which means a strong military! How many more times is the America hater, Obama$$, going to apologize to the world for us and continue to hand us over to the Muslim extremists? One man volt... LOL, interesting on how bush2 at least had a budget.

Perhaps you may want to look where the "5 Trillion" came from (2 "off-budget" wars, to begin with). Do your research before you comment here. This isn't Fox News

Perhaps you can provide us with the treasury data that supports your assertion for being "off budget". More than likely other military programs were used to fund the conflicts. I wonder what programs obama used to fund the military expenditures for the arab spring support? Other than CR's just what does obamas approved budgets for FY 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 tell us on his military spending?

Nice of you to say this as well...

Neocon purveyors of misinformation really don't like it when somebody gets to the factual root of our national economic dilemma

Doesn't "factual root" imply that you should have provided the treasury data to support this? BTW, here is the link to research. www.treasury.gov . Of course let's not forget to check out the treasury supplied debt figures as well or even obamas promise to decrease deficits by the time he leaves office in 2013.

                      http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/19124.html

Let's see, according to obama and company...

The official said the bulk of the savings come from winding down the war in Iraq, additional revenue from raising taxes on the wealthy, and other cuts and savings to be specified later. Officials have said the budget creates room to start an ambitious overhaul of the nation's health-care system, which Obama aides view as a key to the government's fiscal future.

Well we now know that obama wanted to keep troops in iraq beyond the 2008 SOFA agreement withdrawal dates, he has expanded our role in afghanistan with the "surge" and his recently announced plan of afghan support beyond 2014. We also know from his 2010 rhetoric on wanting to eliminate the bush tax cuts for the 2% that this would only result in $80 billion/yr in additional revenue. I wonder what happenned to his spending cuts?

About that healthcare savings, I wonder?? Part of it is before the supreme court as I type and if I recall correctly section 1502 of the passed healthcare law now considers that any employer contribution to a workers healthcare plan will now be considered as taxable income for the worker starting in 2013. Yep, obama sure does look after the poor and middle class, lol... Just check out box 12 on your W-2 form next january. Those without employer subsidized health insurance will be the lucky ones.

Perhaps you can provide us with the treasury data that supports your assertion for being "off budget".

Here's a source that explains it.

To distract people from the real price tag of a two-front war, the president and Congress have used an unprecedented and fiscally irresponsible budgetary trick: a series of “emergency” supplemental spending bills

Once a small blip among federal outlays, emergency supplementals have exploded since 2002, when the Republican Congress let a key legislative restriction on their use expire.

And a quick look at Treasury data found here and here confirms it:

Let's just take one year as an example. Note that, from the first source above, the national debt from fiscal year 2007 increased by $1T (from $9T on 9/30/2007 to $10T on 9/30/2008). But, from the second source, the budget deficit for 2007 was only $161B. Where the hell did the other $800B come from? It came primarily from "emergency" supplemental spending bills. I won't do an exhaustive analysis - I pointed you at the proper sources, work it out for yourself!

And it wasn't just "war" funding. Here's an article that describes the pork that Republican Congress managed to add:

This year’s emergency spending bill, for instance, contains $118 million to bail out private fisheries, on top of tens of billions in disaster relief funds the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration are already paying to that industry. It also includes $335 million to subsidize “volunteer” work through AmeriCorps and a $703 million add-on for highway projects unrelated to the Gulf Coast—some of them in Hawaii and California. Those aren’t the only projects in the bill that aren’t anywhere near Iraq or the Gulf Coast: There are Army Corps of Engineers earmarks for North Padre Island, Texas; Sacramento, California; and water systems across Hawaii.

Expect more bills like this in the future. Waste is endemic in Congress, and the White House has refused to restrain the legislature’s spending explosion. Until that changes, politicians will still claim with straight faces that $500 million for farm and ranch subsidies or $500,000 for the Mississippi Children’s Museum qualify as “emergency” spending.

You shot down the argument that onemancvolt was trying to make that the Bush wars were off budget and that meant the cost did not show up until Obama put them on his budget.

While the cost of the wars were paid via emergency supplemental they were still charged to the debt when the bills for the war was paid for back in the 2000s and not during Obama's administration. The only war cost the Obama administration has incurred are those that happened during his administration and the Obama administration so far has paid those the exact same way Bush did.

Whats really funny is that throughout this entire primary they have not passed a 5% turnout of registered Republican voters in any State so far. Makes me wonder if Republican voters might get together and run a REAL candidate for President so Independents can have a choice other than Obama. As it is I am sure diehard Republicans will vote for Romney but those are the folks who will vote for the R regardless of the candidates qualifications.

It's almost like the GOP is throwing away the election

I don't believe that Republicans are throwing away the election...it may just be that they can't back any of the remaining candidates.

The primaries are just to narrow down the field for each party. It doesn't mean we have to vote for any of them.

There are plenty of good candidates on the 2012 Presidential Candidate website. I'm one of those.

I started running as an Independent, but found out that Independents are at a BIG disadvantage for several reasons. 1. Independents must get signatures to be placed on the state ballot. But, an Independent must wait until AFTER the primaries are over and then only ask for signatures on their petitions from registered voters WHO HADN'T ALREADY VOTED IN THE PRIMARIES even though the primaries have nothing to do with the Independents. 2. The party leaders won't help any candidate that isn't affiliated with a Republican or Democrat party. But even if a person runs as a Republican say, they won't help anyone unless that person raises tons of money and 3. the news media won't even let the public know that there are other candidates which cuts down the ability of candidates to raise funds needed to get support from either party.

That's what is REALLY wrong with our system. I called some of the candidates on that website that looked like they were serious about getting this country back on track and found out that most had already given up for lack of support and roadblocks.

I'm NOT going to give up until November because I know that all American citizens have the right to write in a candidate's name on the blank space on the ballot in November. We CAN elect someone the news media isn't even reporting on.

We SHOULD be voting for the candidate with the best plan for America, not the best known name, or charisma.

Charisma seems to be bombing. And we keep re-electing people based on name recognition instead of someone who has a good plan to get us out of the mess corrupt politicians (on both sides of the aisle) have made for us.

I have a People's Plan on my website that will create jobs, get people off welfare, improve healthcare and education, fix the economy and balance the budget and ALL without raising taxes or the debt ceiling...

I called it the People's Plan because it is made up of ideas from people of all walks of life. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, old, young, black, white, male and female. We need to vote in the best plan and I believe I have that. See for yourself under the Issues section on the Kathyern Lane portion of the 2012 Presidential Candidate website. Republicans as well as some Democrats are still waiting for a good candidate to vote for. Maybe they'll find one there...

No, the failed social experiment is supply-side Reaganomics.

Ron Paul has more than enough delegates to cause Corporate Raider Willard Romney massive problems. Also, I suspect that Corporate Raider Willard Romney has fewer votes than the GOP is claiming.

It should be a very intense floor fight at the Convention.

                              And thats my opinion.

At this point, it's unlikely that Dr. Paul will win the nomination--even though media predictions are off and even if his delegate strategy continues to work, he probably won't become the nominee. However, his goal was always to made a difference, and becoming president was just the "best way to do it". So if he makes a big splash with even just 40% of the delegates, he will be heard and it'll at least be fun to see Romney wriggle and squirm his way out of this one.

At no time during this entire primary has Romney had the amount of delegates the media claims including today. There is ONE more truthful FR article that correctly states Romney SHOULD have enough delegates after Texas, every other article has already crowned him the nominee. But then again GOP and mainstream media crowned him the nominee and Romney accepted it over a month ago didn't they?

One can read Reagan's biography without being sucked in to Reaganomics. After all, we have the years since as proof of the damage from supply-side policies.

Even John F. Kennedy embraced trickle-down economic theory at one time, as did many Democrats. However, when a system has proven not to work long term (where are the jobs?), attempting it again and again expecting different results each time is tantamount to insanity. That is exactly where the Republicans are right now.

He was at least digestible when he was a Libertarian, but once he teamed up with the teabaggers and started rattling off about the evil EPA and environmental regulation. That was it for him. After all these years of hearing from him, it's time for him to give it up. Go home and play paw paw to sonny boy.

Obama shouldn't even be campaigning right now. It shows that he feels insecure about his job posistion. He should be worrying about the countries problems, and not the next election. If he was doing a good job, then he would sweep the debates without having to even make a script.

So in your opinion, it's acceptable to have 3 years of nothing running a country? What if this is how we acted in the cold war? While our problems escalate, you say he should sit back and no nothing, because he fears it would ruin his re-election...

However, his agenda is to stay in power, every president has wanted that. (except in extreme cases, such as illness)

The President, and Congress too, should be working as much as possible to make this country a better place. Anyone trying to advance corrupt schedules needs to be thrown out.

Nobody has seen the etch-a-sketch birth cert yet. Get it? Romney is an illegal alien as is shown by the fact that he keeps his money in another country and winks when he talks to the hispanics.

He is wasting his money, your money, and your time because he will be disqualified for failure to show his birth certificate. Where is it?

In reality neither Obama OR Romney are qualified to be president but hey we don't pay attention to the Constitution any more so I guess it doesn't matter.

                                      Ron Paul...Hahahahaha

Oh, you're serious?! Let me laugh even harder! HAHAHAHAH

Ron Paul is DOA in the primaries and Mitt is DOA in the general election (maybe Ron Paul would be too...but we won't know until it's snowing in hell).

Both have serious flaws on their stances and while one is a hypocrite and an empty-suit, the other one is certifiably delusional and nostalgic for the bygone era of rampant pollution, child labor and the Robber Barons (I'm being vague on purpose, they both pretty much share these qualities, Ron Paul is just more open about it).

Obama is not my favorite pick, but considering that Mitt has taken the same sell-out approach and kowtowed to the morons in the social conservative and neo conservative camps alike, I'm not voting for that tool. Mitt had a decent record with Mass, but he's completely alienated any chance of attracting the moderate votes now.

Wake me up when the GOP runs Teddy Roosevelt again...he was the last genuine true-conservative that gave a damn about US citizens and not just the established oligarchy.

Tommy,....Ron Paul is not anti-war, just anti-undeclared, unfunded war. He left his medical practice, wife and three kids to serve America in war......What Paul is against is America being the world's policeman and funding most of the world's police action by NATO and the UN............

I think Ron Paul's foreign policy is right on the mark considering the economic pitfalls facing America at present....If he is not on the ballot, I will write him in.

Ron Paul did say stuff against the UN (which needs to be cleaned up anyways) but I'm pretty sure that quitting the UN is the least of his concerns at this point. His goals for the first term would include fishing the economy out of the toilet, auditing the Fed, stopping the warmongering, and stopping the unwarranted searches. The second term would likely be used to keep up the good work and adjust strategy if necessary (i.e. not a lot would happen).

It's astonishing the extent to which Ron Paul supporters are deluded, talking about a brokered convention and delegates from states without primaries and all sorts of wishful thinking that results in Dr. Paul being the nominee. Time to pack it in unless he's going independent, which he's said he won't do.

So give it a rest, y'all.

                                        @ jason-755356

If you want to replace Obama...try running a candidate that isn't:

                                        1. A superstitious moron that cannot differentiate and in fact seeks to blur the lines between separation of church and state
                                        2. Parroting the same failed supply-side (e.g. Trickle-Down) nonsense that was the cornerstone of the Reagan/Bush Jr. Administrations but in fact actually has a concept of macro and micro economics and proposes a plan and shows how it will realistically work
                                        3. Lacking a game-plan for working with the opposite party and isn't taking a stance of "the other side is completely wrong and I intend to undo everything and stop everything they have or are trying to pass". If you criticize Obama for being an unrealistic idealist that cannot keep his promises, what do you think the "Repeal Everything" camp looks like?
                                        4. Completely ignoring the dwindling middle class and the job/brain drain that is helping to secure the US as a future 3rd world nation...and PROPOSES A REALISTIC PLAN ON HOW THEY INTEND TO REVERSE THIS TREND!
                                        5. Isn't depending on unrealistic expectations on revenue growth from proposed/sustained tax cuts (that has yet to be proven), nor proposes exclusively screwing over the poor/unemployed or the younger generations in order to balance the budget.

Unless the GOP plans on running Teddy Roosevelt in lieu of Romney, they aren't getting my vote this time around...nor in the near future considering the growing strength that the fringes have over the GOP (TP, NeoCons, SocioCons).

Maybe what we need is another candidate. Did you ever check out the ones on the 2012 Presidential Candidate website. There are a few there with good plans.

It is official, or is it? The GOP has presented Mittens Romney with a saddled, albeit, somewhat sway backed horse. Question remains though; can mittens actually mount it? If He does, can He ride It? Is the horse able to tote Him? Can Mitt really get out of the barn astride the hoss? Questions, and more questions.

Then there's "Ron Paul". Doesn't have a horse, but does hold some fodder and shucks. What will He do with them? Sell it to the poor who can't afford toilet paper maybe? Questions and more questions.

Wonder if God might possibly have taken His grace and showered It on another place, like Greece maybe?

Harley, first of all the main thing that killed our economy was tax cuts that we could not afford to give. The republicans in congress refuse to let that be corrected. when bush put medicare part D into effect with no plan to pay for it, people of your party said nothing. It put billions of your tax money into big pharmaceutics companies, These moves by bush still plague us. yet under Obama the stock market managed to climb from 8k to 13k. gas is finaly going down and Binladen is dead, the war in iraq is over and Afghanistan is heading to a close.what do you want? Romney has been very clear, he wants to return to the bush tax cut policies. DONT YOU REPUBLICANS THINK AMERICA IS WORTH PAYING FOR? maybe you forget the conditions our wounded troops had to live in , in that VA hospital complex while bush and his friends made billions. Bush came. he saw. and he robbed us and our troops.

I do so enjoy the whining about Obama not being able to fix 8 years of almost uninterrupted, consecutive screw-ups by the Bush Administration in less than 4 years, and simultaneously tackle the terrible recession we're slowly crawling back from like a stroke victim re-learns to walk.

Heck, I don't think Obama will be able to correct it all in 8 years. Government doesn't make changes that quickly, and even if Obama got to pass bills containing everything that he wanted, the US will probably still be plagued by a lot of the same stresses until at least the end of the 1st term of POTUS du jour circa 2020.

Also, Harley Chic, Obama didn't spend anything close to the prior administration's expenditures, even during Bush's first term. In fact, Obama has spent less and the government's outlays haven't been this low since the 1950's

But in any sense, I don't think that facts and pragmatism play much of a part in how you form your opinions. Vote for Romney as you will, but don't expect anything different out of him than what we got from Bush last time around.

As dumb as most of you sound their are enough intelligent folks in this country that could never let this baffoon(romney)become our POTUS. Its crazy to think a Mormon(non-thinker or follower) is even qualified. He is a polygamist. We need to look closer into his background. Even Ron Paul is more qualified and that is scary.

Sure, let's punish success! Let's confiscate everything the rich own even though it won't make a dent in the federal debt! It will make the liberal slackers feel better!

This is what Obama has done to this country, he wants people to blame everyone else for their lack of accomplishment just like he does. Pathetic!

Obama hasn't built a thing in his life, and certainly hasn't built successful business after successful business like Mitt Romney and Warren Buffet have, and put tens of thousands of people to work in the process.

Obama decries businesses making a profit. What does he think happens to businesses that DON'T make a profit? They go out of business and lay everyone off, that's what happens. They have no profits to reinvest to grow the company and add jobs.

Obama is too stupid to get it. He knows absolutely ZERO about the economy, and even less about business. He, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the gang think government handouts drive the economy. No wonder things haven't turned around.

I wonder what Nancy Pelosi's husband would tell you about what makes his vineyard in California stay afloat. How did he and Nancy become so wealthy? Not by running a business that's not making adequate profits. Collectively, these people are idiots.

Look at all the candidates on the 2012 Presidential Candidates website. Some have dropped out already and some are just flakes...but there are three or four that have good plans for America.

Romney will never be in the White House. Thinking Americans will not vote for an outsource President, we do not want a man that would sell America to the highest bidders. Romney is part of the reason American jobs went overseas. Use your brain and think for yourself. Do not let Fox all faux news continue to brain wash you.

The failed welfare state and the failure of big government spending to "fix" the economy are on trial in November,

So Romney will probably win. He's really closed the gap in the past couple weeks, often ahead or tied amongst likely voters. Which means, you lose.

Romney is there for his corporate buddies. You may not like Obama, but at least he doesn't change his views every time somebody offers to pay him more. And Ron Paul isn't bought and paid for.

As a former US Marine, I really don't appreciate that you use the name Chesty Puller as a name on here. He was a brave and honorable man which you certainly don't appear to be. Both sides of the isle are messing the country up. I'm an independant with a brain and realize the whole fiasco that we are currently in was started way back with ol Ronnie Reagan with the trickle down economics BS, it was then the Democrat Bill Clinton that signed NAFTA to outsource our middle income jobs overseas, thats why we no longer have a true middle class.

Our country needs to go back to the 1970s and start tarrifing anything that comes into our country, none of this free trade BS. Why do you think Honda, Toyota and others build over here, because of the tarrifs back then that made it more cost efficent to build in the US.

Further more, I dont agree with some of what President Obama but he is a HELL of a lot better that the group that comes right out and tells us they are for the rich. How anyone that doesnt make $250,000 or more a year can even fathom to vote the Republicans is definately voting against their best interests. We need to get rid of the party system or get a viable third party because the two party system has gotten to be like a sporting event (my team vs your team) and no one is winning. Well, I digress because it appears that this great country is going the way of the Roman Empire, with the rich senators and their buddies running everything with a figurehead at the top know as Ceasar (President). I fear for our country, I love my country but just hate the government that is in charge.

It won't really matter which of those two get in because they both believe that giving up our rights is okay as long as it keeps us safe. Problem is, when we give up our rights no one is safe.

Bush started this with the Patriot Act, but it has escalated into so much more and not one of the major news outlets talks about any of it.

Like NDAA, PDD51, Agenda 21, H.R. 645 and of course the latest big move by Obama with Executive Order...giving away part of Alaska to Russia. No approval by the masses or by the Congress.

What's next? Giving away parts to China in exchange for more "spending money?"

We can't afford Obama any longer and since Romeny believes it's okay to take our rights away...well, soon we won't even have the ability to protest.

If you haven't heard of any of the above laws and bills...please read up. The corrupt politicians on both sides of the aisle are getting ready to take everything you have.

It happened in Brazil, it happened in Russia, and it is about to happen here.

This year we need to vote in a non-professional politician. There are plenty to choose from on the 2012 Presidential Candidate website.

We can't afford either of those two and while I like the idea of shutting down the Federal Reserve, Ron Paul will NOT be able to accomplish this even if he gets elected because the 100 year charter runs out this December...while Obama is still in office to sign another 100 year charter...

We need to elect one of the people this time around. Someone who comes from the middle class. Someone who understands how hard it is to give to charities, work until you drop and then work some more to cover the tax loop holes the rich enjoy.

I don't believe in the "Robin Hood" approach that "Superman" proposes.

I do believe in the People's Plan. I do believe in the everyday hard-working folks.

I don't believe one word that comes out of a career politician's mouth and neither should you!

They did away with regulations, gave tax breaks during war time, they are STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have a debt that can be solved, let the tax breaks expire. all of them. Stop giving money to the oil companies and large corporations that outsource jobs, which Obama tried to stop. But the republicans and tea baggies stopped it from happening. The recession was caused by the lending policies that were set up by the Clinton Administration. This was to encourage home ownership to lower income families. The problem is that that banking/mortgage crooks gave loans to people who could not afford them and drove up artificial demand. This was not due to the Bush Tax breaks. The problem is you can not stimulate the economy with a socialist plan. As Ronald Regan said "You can not TAX your way to prosperity".

Do you mean Big Oil with their perpetual tax payer funded subsidies or maybe the "defense" industry with the no-bid contracts, or how about the top 1% with their "job-creating" tax cuts or maybe the corporate parasites paying effective tax rates of -47%, that's right NEGATIVE 47% effective tax rate! Would those be the entitlement crowd you're talking about here?

So unless your part of the 1%, you should agree that these bush tax cuts must go away because they affect you(rethugs) as much as it does for the 99%. I just don't understand their logic. Actually I do. Its called being ignorant and flat out stupid. They talk about entitlements for the unfortunate and cutting the programs that help them but would rather watch the 1% get richer and separation within the system($$$). Look up the US company's that paid the highest percentage of their earning to corporate taxes last year.

                                                        Guess who they were:

                                                        Oil company's.

Research how tax decreases for the upper class and middle class caused the recession.

                                                        Guess what.

                                                        They didn't

Also please explain how bush is till president and responsible for all Obama's short cummings 3.5 years after bush leaves office.

                                                        Sorry to say again.

                                                        Bush is no longer president.

Also explain how business experience is not good experience for a presidential candidate.

                                                        You know things like,

budgets, resource allocation, planning, developing strategies, communication, leadership etc...

                                                        Sorry to say again

That sounds like excellent experience to me.

Yah! Ron Paul! Now that it was made mathematically impossible for him to win 2 months ago! All the way! And never attacking Mitt Romney, the most lib and biggest challenger was a great strategy.

                                                        Ron Paul 2012! Hahhahahahahahahahah.

While not a Romney supporter during the primary, congrats to him for his impressive victory. Obama nixed the Keystone pipeline, his health care bill will be ruled unconstitutional, he sued the state of Arizona and even Sotamayor couldn't believe it, Scott Walker will keep his job, so will Scott Brown, net jobs are at a loss since he became president, the jobs people got are awful, and expendable income is way down. This is an easy victory for Romney- the polls will turn the last couple weeks in a big way.

Yah the polls go from registered voters to likely voters, the more accurate measure, in the final week.

Romney's tied with BHO as is, today, in most likely voter polls or even ahead.

only people doing likely voters today are Rasmussen and Gallup I think, occasionally some others.

Most pollsters go with the less reliable registered voters number until election week and then go with likely voters.

Jeff..you couldnt be more wrong. He didnt nix the pipeline. He put it on hold to make sure the pipeline was directed properly. And because it was run by the Big oil companies it was for sure the wrong plan because as we all know they do it for profit and not for environmental concerns. You get that? The health care bill will not fail and the USSCourts already made their decision on it. And because Obama will win this election this healthcare bill stands to be the biggest and best bill passed since SS. As for AZ and the unethical behavior these so-called politicians..again Obama was right and Janet Brewer and her cronies should be evicted from office and put in jail. And finally net jobs???? You are a complete fool. The unemployment rate was in a complete downward spiral since he took office and no one could have cured the mess that Bush jr put this economy in. I think he has done well all things considered. Can't imagine how bad it really could be if McCan't was running this country. OMG

In the last 3 likely voter polls from Realclearpolitics,

Rasmussen has Obama up 1%, 46% to 45%

Mason Dixon has Romney up 3%, 47% to 44%

The Washington Times has Romney up 1%, 44% to 43%.

When you tack on the fact that according to experts such as former Clintonite Dick Morris, undecideds, which make up from 13% to 9% in the above polls (people who do not choose either) tend to go against the incumbent normally, it appears most likely that you will be kicked strongly in the anus in the presidential election this fall. Not to mention of course your congressional losses which are almost guaranteed.

I do think BHO still has a good shot of winning, I've just downgraded his shot personally, in the last few weeks from 50% to 40%. He is doing better than Romney amongst the less accurate registered voters group, although not as well as he was a couple months ago. We'll see.

I wouldn't spend so much time on racialism, Obama is a mulatto (part white and part black) so who cares if a President is Black or White or whatever, its all to do with how well he or she can run the country. Economist are stating we won't be out of this recession until 2014. I would hate to see how much longer past this time Obama can push it.

And saying it doesn't matter is ridiculous! It does matter. This is the type of reporting that isn't reporting at all. It's mind altering because it's always misleading. People shape their opinions on this type of junk. The least they could do is be responsible but your right, it's too late now...

The map shows Ron Paul "won" a bunch of states that Santorum won by a mile, without Paul even coming close like Louisiana and Oklahoma. RP was not even a factor in Louisiana, Santorum got 49% and Paul got 6%.

Trump was just looking for ANYONE that would agree to "get tougher on the Chinese about the trade agreement." (So HE could get even cheaper goods for his buildings.)

Romney will do that...but the timing for this is ALL WRONG.

First, we have to pay our debt to China. Second, we have to stop borrowing from China BEFORE we can just dictate new terms. Right now China will just laugh in our face!

Great plan Mr. Trump! When YOU are the guy on the ground getting sand kicked in your face, that is NOT the time to yell out threats! Better, to work-out and then show the bully who is boss!

Want a real candidate? Vote for Kathyern Lane in November! (By the way, this candidate has no Puppet-Master!)

                                                                            Kathyern:

Want a real candidate? Vote for Kathyern Lane in November! (By the way, this candidate has no Puppet-Master!)

And zero business sense. The USA does NOT borrow money from China. The USA Treasury sells bonds and other financial instruments. China and others are simply smart enough to purchase them.
