How stupid are Americans anyway? By diverting our attention from the really important things that matter, they find themselves embroiled in a fight to protect conventional marriage which is, at best, successful 50 percent of the time. And we find ourselves trying to call abortion illegal when it has been legal for 40 years. And if you think the Republicans actually are concerned about either of these issues, think again. Absolutely nothing has been done to make abortion illegal nor does the wealthy comglomrate that rule the Repulican party care even the slightest about gay marriage. In fact, without the votes of anti-gun control, anti-gay, anti-religious freedom (as supported buy the evangelicans) they cannot win in 2012. They will do and say anything to get these totally ignorant votes which have little to do with what this country really needs. SEPARATION of church and state was thrust upon us by the founding fathers for a reason. Running the country should not be thrown in a big mixer with the agenda of the religious idiots who think their agenda is more important than the agenda of America...the country. Get over it.

I am a conservative middle-aged mother and a Christian Republican living in the buckle of the Bible belt. I never believed that being gay was something you were born with. You chose it---I still believe that. And, I was raised to believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. However, since my daughter came out as a lesbian, I've realized several things: 1) I cannot make choices for my grown child, no matter how much I'd like to. 2) She is a good, productive citizens, who works, takes care of her family (she has 2 children), how can I complain? 3) She chose to marry the one she loves, who makes her happy and loves her and her children just as much. Isn't that what I always wanted for her? 4) As far as Christian values go, she still attends church they still believe in God and Jesus as our Savior. Her heart must be right with God, not me, not her critics or other family. I believe that's what we want for our children. The only real complaint that i have is that she's moving away and I won't be able to see her or the grand kids regularly. I don't really want the government or anyone else, telling her or anyone else how things ought to be done. They live as a family (one of many kinds in our nation) and they should be treated as such.

What a refreshing viewpoint. I wish our intransigent "leaders" would realize that freedom is for everyone and our positions can evolve. Thanks for sharing your experience.

      Gay's Anthem

      We're an army of dicks
      With a militant stance
Let's get the government out of our lives
      and into our pants
      Defenders of marriage
      Defending the institution against people
      who want to get married
      And have their insurance carried
      And be beneficiary'd
And be next to the ones they love
      when they are buried

Kind of sweet, don't ya think....
