President Barack Obama’s most glaring vulnerabilities this election cycle are laid bare in the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, in which Americans say the incumbent commander in chief has either made no impact on pocketbook issues – or even made them worse.
More respondents said Obama made worse the budget deficit (47 percent), health care (43 percent), and the partisan divide in politics (39 percent) than those who said the president had improved – or at least made no difference – upon them during his first term in office.
Those are numbers that help explain the Romney campaign’s almost singular focus on the economy in prosecuting his case against Obama.
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd shares details from the latest NBC News/WSJ poll.
“What these polls are telling us is that we have a close race, and the number one issue on people's mind is the economy,” said an adviser to the former Massachusetts governor. “If you look at the president's performance on that No. 1 issue, he's getting failing grades across the board.”
There are issues on which the president has an advantage – Americans view Obama as having improved the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. auto industry, and protections for the middle class. And more respondents (32 percent) in the NBC/WSJ poll said they’re quite or extremely confident that the Democrat’s policies would improve the economy than the 19 percent who said the same for his Republican rival.
But Obama faces serious and stubborn frustration toward his handling of the economy. The number of Americans who said they expect the economy to improve over the next year dipped slightly, and 50 percent of poll-takers said that last month’s jobs report – which showed the economy added 115,000 jobs in April – was no reason for optimism.
Romney’s challenge, though, lies in convincing voters that he would represent an improvement over Obama.
First Thoughts: Economic pessimism is back
The new poll data show that the private sector resume that Romney frequently cites on the campaign trail is an asset, especially as it relates to how voters expect the Bain Capital co-founder to turn around the economy and close the budget deficit.
It also explains why the Obama campaign has launched a full-fledged attack on Romney’s business experience, in hopes of diminishing his advantage – for now – versus the president on those pocketbook issues.
“It depends how credible of a messenger Romney really is. Do people think that his work at Bain made life better for the average people?” said former Texas Rep. Martin Frost, a veteran Democratic campaigner. “The public probably doesn't know too much about Romney's record in the private sector, but my bet is they'll know a whole lot more by the end of the election.”
Thirty-five percent of Americans said Romney’s private sector career at Bain Capital is a major advantage in improving job creation; another 24 percent said it’s a minor advantage. A combined 59 percent said Romney’s background was an advantage in working to reduce the federal budget deficit.
The latest Wall Street Journal/Washington Post poll shows that presidential candidate Mitt Romney's biggest strength is his business background, which is viewed as a key advantage to improving the economy. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
(Voters’ impression of Romney’s business background is still positive, though less so, when it comes to ensuring corporations pay their fair share of taxes, protecting workers’ rights, and enforcing environmental standards for businesses.)
The data lay the groundwork for the summertime campaign battles, which Obama himself helped launch this week, when he openly called into question Romney’s qualifications to be president.
NBC/WSJ poll: Obama, Romney locked in tight contest
"The reason this is relevant to the campaign is because my opponent, Gov. Romney, his main calling card for why he thinks he should be president is his business expertise," Obama said at a press conference in Chicago. "And when you’re president, as opposed to the head of a private equity firm, then your job is not simply to maximize profits. Your job is to figure out how everybody in the country has a fair shot."
Obama’s aggressive tack is directed toward erasing Romney’s advantage when it comes to the economy, what may prove to be the trump card should the former Massachusetts governor end up winning in November. For instance, 41 percent of poll respondents said they’re “not at all” confident that Obama has the right policies to improve the economy (36 percent said the same for Romney).
“What the Obama campaign wants to do is to continue focusing on issues that are not important to the overall anxieties that they have in terms of the economy right now,” said the Romney adviser. “They want to offer a distorted version of the governor’s business background, and we see it as an opportunity to remind the American people of the importance of free enterprise.”
But at the same time, more Americans, 32 percent, said that they’re quite or very confident in Obama’s proposals (versus 19 percent who said that of Romney). Four in 10 voters said they’re “somewhat confident” in Romney’s proposals, a number that could prove fluid as the president campaign works to define “Romney Economics” for the general public.
Those variables could all be shaken by factors outside of either campaign’s control, though. Frost expressed particular worry about the effect of a European backslide on the U.S. stock market – a tangible symbol that could temper voters’ thoughts toward Obama. “The economic situation is still pretty volatile. The numbers could coming out of Europe could really put a damper on things,” he said. “To the extent the stock market reacts adversely, that's a problem. If the stock market just kind of muddles through, it doesn't really affect the average person.”

Obama's attempt to improve his sagging poll numbers by attacking Romney's business background will fail for two reasons. One, it reminds voters that Romney has a business background. And two, it reminds voters that Obama does not have a business background.
No matter what voters may think of Romney or how much they supported Obama in 2008, no one with a working memory can forget that Obama was woefully inexperienced to take on the job of President.
The problem for American voters is, neither political party are offering true answers to the economic woes facing America.
We in America have had our jobs outsourced, schools fail us for future generations and become a society where way too many are content to live off the labor of others, ie: welfare, food stamps, disability.
The reason why attacking Romney and Bain Capital will work, is it will remind voters that Romney supports the 1% at the expense of the 99%. Romney's business background says nothing about how he will fix the economy. You have Romney hiding from the press, because he can't answer the specifics about how he would fix the economy.
Voters will not forget who derailed the economy with "trickle down" economics. It was the Republicans.
Why hand the keys back to the party that got us into this financial mess.
to me, obama's smear campaign against romney shows he is scared. obama finally let biden out of the closet on the condition that he aid him in degrading romney in front of the american people. obama has not been a leader EVER and is certainly not what we the american people need representing us in front of the world today. obama is against every american value, which is quite evident with the passage of the abortion free campaign. he is against every moral issue this country is and has been facing since he took office. he has socialistic views and wants the united states to hold the same. he is not for the working man even though he says he is. he is desparate and has been ever since 2008. in november we the american people have a chance to get both him and biden out of office and put romney in. romney has a vision of where we need to go, he will work hard to get us there. just say no to obama.
Romney's vision for America is cross eyed at best.
Romney gives no specifics about how he will fix the economy. None.
The Republican smear campaign isn't touching Obama's likeableness.
Romney is cold and robotic, why would American's vote for someone that has no compassion for the hard working American's of the middle class.
You lose all cred when you bring up the whole 1%/99% argument.
Well, well, well, it seems even brown-nosed NBC can't put a positive spin on Obama's miserable economic failures.
The questions about Bain Capital are at the core of our economic problems.
Do we believe the economy should support people or profits????
All the gibberish about the rich, the poor, the welfare queens, the illegal aliens, the debt, the deficit - are all meant to distract us from the fundamental problem we face as a nation.
Our middle class is struggling - THAT is the problem. We do not need profits - we do not need balanced budgets - we do not need less debt.
We need JOBS. We need INCOME. We need a stronger MIDDLE CLASS.
If Romney is such a business genius, why are his policies the exact same as George W. Bush?
If Romney is such a business genius, why are his policies the exact same as George W. Bush?
Exactly right, Joe!
Maybeyoucan't.
What is woefully apparent remains; our economy is better now than it was 4 years ago, as Republican leadership was exiting office after having implemented GOP ideological strategies on how to run an economy for 8 years. The key word remains moving an ENTIRE National economy (Obama) forward intead of moving THEIR (GOP) economy forward.
This alone gives Obama a huge advantage with the majority of middle class America based upon economic grounds with the Independant voter. So....when we poll about who's satisfied with the economy, and to what extent, of course the polls reflect disatisfaction. The economy still hasn't completely recovered. Never the less, if you poll between choosing Obama or Romney based on economical grounds for the Country. Obama wins.....
This poll neglects the reality of having to choose between two stark choices. One that will take us where we were. And one that took us from where we were. I choose to continue moving from where we were.
Obama/Biden 2012
Come on people, the "Wall Street Journal"!, has everyone forgotten that the WSJ belongs to Rupert Murdock. I don't believe one word [or poll] coming from that news source, if Adolph Hitler was running for president Murdock would say he's ahead in the polls even if he trailed by 50 points. I'm amazed at how many people are still taken in by right wing lies.
The problem is that we are continuing to move...FURTHER INTO THE DITCH!
@dohdoh, it only loses credibility with the wealthy. It completely resonates with the middle class.
Obama's attempt to distract from the economy isnt working. It will be the economy that will be voted on. Obama promised to cut the deficit in half. He promised to bring back the jobs.
He has not done either.
Romney offers experience in the real world and in the political realm. He is a proven winner.
Obama is nothing but a broken promise and even democrats can see it.
LMAO @ the sheep. EVERY person elected to become the President of the United States is woefully inexperienced to take on the job. Despite what any of you may think, it is on the job training. Not a single person, except GHW Bush, Bill Clinton, Carter, GW Bush and the current President have any idea what the job is like, what it entails.
Romney as president will destroy this fledgling economy. Romney has stated his intentions which is war with Iran. A war with Iraq and Afghanistan that Bush launched, along with 9-11 was the economy killer. Wars drain the resources of the nations involved and thus end up destroying those nations economy. Name 1 single nation to ever come out of a war, better then when they went in? I can't think one. Right now we are broke. Sure Obama is partly to blame. But the President, nor congress can create jobs without enlarging the government. The GOP are big proponents of "smaller" governments, yet they created new cabinets under the Bush Regime which enlarged the government. I don't think Obama has created any cabinets out of thin air, which were unnecessary.
A Romney presidency will see unemployment spike to 10% by the end of year one. He'll fire half the work force. Consolidate governmental agencies and sell them off to only reap prophets for himself. Romney is woefully unprepared to be President. His words while running for the nomination make him untrustworthy to handle even the basic of problems. His first actions are always over-reactions and retaliations.
I think Obama deserves a 2nd term. If for no other reason, he faced the worst congress that made it their sole goal to derail anything that he proposed, even before he destroyed McCain, all-the-while trying to rule the nation based on morality. The GOP are obstructionists nothing more, nothing less. They offer NO solutions on how to fix this nation. Their only answers are tax cuts for the rich, cut spending, except for defense and wars with Iran and Islam. The GOP just don't care about this nation and anyone who thinks things will be better under a Romney/GOP led nation, just turn the pages back from 2001-2008.. Miss Me Yet?
Bush. Bush. Bush.
Travel talking point.....Your post is full of so much sheep c-rap I can not respond to all of it except to say it is just that.
Obama had a democrat House and Senate his first 2 years. The democrats controled congress from 2006 until the elections in 2010.
They could have passed anything they wanted to appease a liberal like yourself. They did not. You want to know why? Because if they did things would be worse.
The CBO report this week states that when the Bush tax cuts, which Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Obama extended, end in 2013 the country faces another recession.
Obama and the democrats have failed to get the economy recovery going, they have done nothing but play politics with the security of the nation.
Why has the democrat senate not passed a budget? Because the cowards don't want their name attached to anything that can be criticized.
Obama and the democrats will be the demise of this nation.
If you voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you are not a racist, vote for some one else in 2012 to prove your not stupid.
Under a Republican Congress, America's credit rating has been downgraded, a direct result of their playing chicken with the debt ceiling - and the Republicans are about to do it again!
Sometimes I think 'fiscal conservative' describes the Democratic Party more these days than the Republicans Party. Republicans drove us into the financial crisis of 2008 and ran up the debt with two wars while cutting taxes, now they are gambling again with our credit rating - crazy!
I'm not concerned about the 1%, the rich will take care of themselves. It's the lower 48% who pay no taxes, yet they are the largest burden on the system. When will our leaders learn we need to totally scrap the current tax code and replace it with a simple fair system, without so many loopholes. The government takes in enough revenue, however it spends the money carelessly.
Amy, What Republican Congress has seen a downgrade? Is it not Obama that said "The fact that we're here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure."
Definition:
Fiscal Conservative is a political term used to describe a fiscal policy that advocates avoiding deficit spending. Fiscal conservatives often consider reduction of overall government spending and national debt as well as ensuring balanced budget of paramount importance. Free trade, deregulation of the economy, lower taxes.
What part sounds like a Democrat of today? I think you need to do some research...
@Mark L-464288 -- Free trade, deregulation of the economy, lower taxes - is liberal economics. In fact it is extremely liberal economics. Liberal economics is based on the idea that freeing capital in the economy will magically create economic growth. Liberal economics is based on magic, foo foo dust, fairy tales - we've tried that - it does not work.
'Cut taxes and spend' is liberal economic policy.
'Tax and spend' is conservative economic policy.
Economic policy and fiscal policy are not the same thing. Fiscal policy is about how the government balances taxes and spending. Even the Democrats have an edge because Democrats have enacted legislation to hold deficits where they are - not allow deficits to increase. The Republicans are the ones trying to find a way to avoid the required spending cuts that were agreed to last year.
Democrats are both economically conservative and fiscally conservative. Republicans are the ones that want to give stuff away without paying for it. Republicans are the ones that want to avoid deficit reductions.
Nerm, you are confused between Keynesian Economics and Orthodox Economics...Not conservative and liberal ideology. Republicans are in favor of reduction of government and Democrats are in favor of larger government. With smaller government Republicans favor tax cuts, and with the larger democrat government they believe in higher taxes. Your statement could not be further from the truth...
One of the problems with our country in regard to education is that so many degrees don't require learning about the empirical methodology (the sciences), innovative creativity (humanities), history, etc. Business degrees are one of the degrees that don't teach many things, most specifically public policy, foreign policy, history, (political science), and why in the past most politicians have a law background. Political Science is the most common pre-law major, and then many go on to specialize in constitutional law, etc.
Aside from Romney's particular business background of corporate raider, a business degree lends little to being President and Commander in Chief and leader of the free world. Romney should stick to creating wealth, and making money with money. That's all he's good for, and I don't want a person like that to represent me.
Haha, at first I thought you were doing a parody of a Romney quote, and were going to say the poor have a safety net -- which by the way Romney said he would make stronger if needed, but in his plan (and Paul Ryan's budget) the safety net would be completely destroyed.
Spending cannot be cut below 20-22% of GDP for very long. So no, revenue most certainly is needed, especially taking into account population growth. We need a balanced approach, or as the churchy people would say, moderation in all things.
Devdoc12able -- Wow, you need to get out more often. Do you know what a filibuster is? It requires a Super Majority of 60 votes. The Republicans have filibustered almost every single bill--the highest record of filibuster abuse in history. The Dems only had 60 votes (and barely that taking into account Blue Dogs/Independents) for a few months--from the time Al Franken was sworn in until Ted Kennedy passed away. No, YOU stop with the sheep crap.
@Mark L-464288 -- Lies - no matter how much you believe them - is not truth.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_liberalism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism
Adam Smith was a proponent of liberal economics. Keynesian economics is a mix of liberal and conservative economics.
Neoliberal economics caused the European crisis and is making the situation worse.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/sep/14/neoliberal-europe-union-austerity-crisis
The 'conservatives' are practicing extremely liberal economics and trying to force us to commit economic suicide. Democrats are not the ones that are drinking the kool-aid.
Nerm, If you want to pick and choose your own definitions that you want to accept that's up to you, but that makes it a waste of my time...I gave you a definition of fiscal conservative from the same source that you are referencing...in turn you gave me two definitions referring to liberals...I was talking about fiscal conservatives...please stay on topic...
@Mark L-464288 -- You were attempting to mix fiscal policy and economic policy. That is a false equivalency used to deceive.
Fiscal conservatism means that government pays for what it spends. That is 'tax and spend' fiscal policy - which has been used to describe Democrats for decades. Democrats are the ones that enacted PAYGO - a fiscally conservative law. Democrats have been described as 'tax and spend' like that is a bad thing.
Republicans are the party that practices 'cut taxes and spend' when they are in power. Republicans are the ones attempting to find some way to avoid the mandatory budget cuts they agree to last year.
You should get a refund for your education. Obviously you were cheated.
Obama's economic vulnerabiitlies:
...the numbers for Bush's last three months. Between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.
April 2012 marks the 26th straight month of gains in private-sector employment, for a total of 4.2 million private-sector jobs.
DJIA Dec 1, 2008 = 8149
DJIA May 19, 2012 = 12369
Dec 29, 2008 U.S. corporate earnings probably fell for a sixth-straight quarter, the longest streak in at least 20 years, as consumer spending on automobiles, homes and retailers collapsed.
May 11, 2012 Fortune magazine released its ranking of the 500 biggest US corporations Monday, which showed that they received a record-breaking $824 billion in combined profits in 2011, up 16 percent from 2010.
Hahahahahaha!
Obama should not only be booted from office but he should be locked up.
Obama and the Democrat party were responsible for not sending US Military serving over seas the absentee voters cards. so they can vote.
Obama New Black Panthers Voter intimidation.
Obama and the Democrat party with Acorn used dead people to vote (voter fraud)
Obama has bribed people at tax payers expense ( obamacare backroom deals)
Obama has used money for jobs to buy granade and maching guns for known criminals
Obama not only sold/gave the guns to criminals but actually actively insured they were going to walk streight to the most violent mexican drug cartels in Mexico by buying thousands. Obama made sure no agent were following those guns, by telling all of them to stand down.
Obama (Documents show Obama bought the guns) should be tried for accessary to murder of over 200 Mexican Citizens and for the Boarder agent where his guns have been found. Since it was his policy to give the guns to known violent criminals.
Obama not only continued the same wars he said war bad bush policy but he stated 5 more wars without congress approval. Lybia, Sudan, Congo, Uganda, and Central Africa. He has also cause major tension in Russia (defense missiles), North Korea (missiles), Syria (civil war), and Iran ( where he has staged 2 entire aircraft carriers and a airforce ready on the phone for attack)
Obama should be allowed, through "affirmative-action" to have his second term, as commander in thief.
maybeyoucan't "No matter what voters may think of Romney or how much they supported Obama in 2008, no one with a working memory can forget that Obama was woefully inexperienced to take on the job of President."
And it shows in the results. The recession ENDED 3 years ago, and normally we would have a robust recovery - especially from a severe recession, but Obama's anti-business rhetoric and policies, combined with his 'moratoriums' on energy development that would both help the economy and help make us more energy independent, have stifled any prospects of economic growth and job creation.
In almost 3.5 years under Obama, the debt has increased by $5.7 Trillion (an increase of 57% since the end of fiscal 2008), the economy has barely grown (4% in 3 years), and we still have 1.3 million fewer people working than when he took office (according to the official Bureau of Labor Statistics).
By any reasonable measure - Obama has failed, miserably.
EEngineer
Number of people working when Obama took office = 134,379,000 jobs.
Number of people working in April 2012 - 3+ years later = 132,989,000 jobs.
Net LOSS under Obama = 1,390,000 net jobs.
Source - The official government Bureau of Labor Statistics.
TruePatriot-445959 "Aside from Romney's particular business background of corporate raider, a business degree lends little to being President and Commander in Chief and leader of the free world."
Yeah, nothing prepares someone better than being a 'Community Organizer', right?
Obama came into office without even the experience of running a candy store, and the results are obvious - He has been a miserable failure, which any reasonable person can clearly see.
Anyone but the super wealthy who seriously thinks either Obama or Romney really cares about them and/or will make life better for them is nuts.
They're both horrible and are servants of Wall Street, corporate america and the rich.
Leave aside the PR slogans and posturing and the two parties when in office do about the same thing: Slaughter poor/middle class people in less developed countries (Invasions, bombs, drones, etc.), and transfer money from the middle class and poor to the rich (via bail-outs, tax cuts, tax "incentives", privatization, "credit facilities", Quantitative Easing, etc., etc.)
If you really want to do something that COULD make a difference, participate in your local Occupy action (or kindred movements), or support them in some way.
The mean greedy, bastards who own and control the two parties and the U.S. won't give you @!$%# to live on or any freedoms left to enjoy if you don't make a fuss.
Obamas vulnerabilities are insurmountable. He was voted into office and expected to fix our economy. He chose instead to pursue a purely partisan agenda of absurd legislation. This guy needs to be tossed from the Whitehouse in November and sent back to that toilet bowl; Chicago. Then, we have a chance of starting to recover.
This would be a good
time to read (and spread!) the truth about Frank Vandersloot and other shady
Romney’s donors
A closer look at Romney’s donors
reveals a group of wealthy individuals with less-than-reputable records. Quite
a few have been on the wrong side of the law, others have made profits at the
expense of so many Americans, and still others are donating to help ensure
Romney puts beneficial policies in place for them. Here’s a look at just a few
of the people Romney has relied on:
Donors who
benefit from betting against America
to Romney’s presidential ambitions through Super PAC and direct campaign
donations. As a partner at Blackstone, Schorr closed a deal in 2007 to
outsource the services of seven U.S. companies to a firm in India, boosting
that firm’s profits by $220 million and making millionaires of the Indian
management team. In 2006, he arranged a buyout of a Colorado travel
reservations company that led to 841 layoffs while Blackstone and its partners
recouped the billions of dollars they invested in less than a year.
co-chairman of Romney’s finance operation in Missouri and, together, have
donated $220,000 to Romney’s presidential ambitions. They also control the
Harbour Group investment firm which bragged about buying
an automotive accessories manufacturing company in Kansas in 1997 and moving
production to Mexico. In 2002, the Harbour group’s Mexico operation decided to
outsource to China because China was “offering incentives and making it easy to
open operations there.” The Chinese government awarded Sam Fox the Marco Polo
Award for “his company’s role in China’s economic development and his
humanitarian contributions to that country.”
Romney’s Florida finance team and has bundled over $140,000 for the Romney
campaign. He also lobbied on behalf of Lender Processing Services, a
“foreclosure mill” that paid him to lobby on legislation aimed at preventing
lenders from “making loans that borrowers would have difficulty repaying.” The
government has reprimanded Lender
Processing Services “for unsound practices related to residential
mortgage loan serving and foreclosure processing.”
Special-interest
donors
Romney’s stances on social and
economic issues, like his long-standing alliance with Big Oil, attracts the
contributions of high-dollar donors who are interested in pursuing a specific
agenda. Here are just a few of special-interest donors that Romney is taking
money from:
Louis Moore Bacon donated $500,000 to the Restore Our Future Super PAC. Bacon
makes his profit off of oil, first making a huge profit from successfully
betting that gas prices would rise before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1989.
Bacon’s firm, Moore Capital, was fined $25 million for attempting
to manipulate certain commodity futures markets.
new bundlers who raised more than $25,000 in one month for Romney’s campaign.
He is also a registered lobbyist for a wide
array of energy clients, including Marathon Oil and Shell Oil.
national finance co-chairman of the Romney campaign and, through his company
Melaleuca, has donated $1 million to Restore Our Future. He is also a
“litigious, combative, and a bitter foe of the gay
rights movement” who “spent big” on ads in an “ultimately
unsuccessful effort to force Idaho Public Television to cancel a program that
showed gays and lesbians in a favorable light to school children.”
CEO of PBF Energy, America’s fourth largest petroleum refining company,
and gave $100,000 to Restore Our Future. Not only did PBF energy help
drive gas prices up this year by curtailing gas production, but it spilled
6.6 million gallons of oil at a refinery in New Jersey. The release of
toxic gas and eventual explosion at another of its refineries in Delaware
also directly contributed to a spike in gas prices.
@Amy #1.20,
The term "Congress" includes both the House and the Senate, and the Senate has been controlled by the Democrats for a long time. So your weak attempt to play the "blame game" and try to put reponsibility for this on the Republicans is merely A DISTORTION FROM YOU. You libtards seem to be quite adept with the distortions.
The credit downgrade occurred for many reasons with the biggest reason simply being the question of the U.S. ability to actually handle its massive $16+ trillion in debt. Forty cents of every U.S. tax dollar now goes to debt service, and every Republican attempt to have a budget and live within our income is meant with garbage like "throwing granny over the cliff", "making seniors eat dog food", etc, etc, ad infinitum.
If Obama was a leader, the United States would not be in the 4th year of Obama's term with no budget ! The buck stops with Obama because his unrealistic budget proposals have yet to receive even one vote from within his own party !!!! You lefties simply avoid this issue entirely.
Number of people working when Obama took office = 134,379,000 jobs.
Number of people working in April 2012 - 3+ years later = 132,989,000 jobs.
That is real disingenuous of you. Obama came into office with the worst economy in 80 years! And we know who to blame for that, don't we? Unemployment was rising faster than Halliburton's profits. Over 4.1 million jobs were lost in 2009 and it was all due to Bush. Obama couldn't stem the tide immediately because the damage was so severe.
So the fact that Obama is only down ~1.4 million jobs right now indicates real job gains on his part and one helluva improvement over the mess that Republicans left him.. But that's OK, you keep on rewriting history!
EEeng. I would, gladly, take the Bush economy right before the takeover of Congress by the democrats in Jan. 2007. I would enjoy a 6.5% unemployment as opposed to a 8.3-10.3% of Obama's tenure. I would be happy that there were 134 million jobs, as opposed to 132 million jobs of the present. Obama said he would balance the budget, and halt the impending rising of the seas, how is that working out? I could go further, since this is just a short list of his failures. If you wish for America to prosper, then vote for the American this November. (nothing to do with anyone's birthplace, just actions)
Republitards out in full force today. Obama's accomplishments, just to name a small few, 24 straight months of adding jobs in the private sector, pulling us out of two off the Bushleague books unnecessary wars, stopping a failing housing market set by Bushleagues deregulation policies (which is now starting to improve), STOPPING US FROM GOING INTO A DEPRESSION, trying to make Mitt the dip Sh** pay more than 14% taxes on a income that he made off stripping hard working families pensions and wages.
Republitards I really dont think our current president is as incompetent as you say. You guys should really start to look at your own parties failures before you try to make assumptions about ours. I mean just think where we would be if Sarah Palin was our VP.
Obama is president, and there are 1,500,000 fewer jobs than when he took office, according to the government figures, the jobs added are in the public sector, and as usual all the jobs Obama produces are at my expense as a taxpayer..
So well elect mitt so you dont have to pay taxes anymore. incrediable
I'll take 1.5 over 4.1 anyday.
HEY EVERYONE A RECESSION WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH LETS ELECT MITT AND SEE WHAT A DEPRESSION IS LIKE.
Our economy is improving because of Obama, with zero help from the republitard hurdles thrown at him on a daily basis.
Wait for the debates haters, Mitt will be exposed for what he is (a greedy scumbag) and Obama will prevail. Its going to be glorious.
Not listening to the talking heads, I can only conclude that this bastardization of the English language has to do with some campaign that Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Beck have launched. It is not a Democrat house unless you are illiterate or English is not your native tongue. It is a Democratic House. A Democrat House is a building that is sentient and votes as a democrat.
You people lose all credibility when you say this silly thing. As if somehow you are voicing a loud opinion (I presume) that Democrats are not Democratic.
It makes you sound as if you didn't graduate from High School rather than making a clever distinction as you somehow seem to imagine.
So Prez O was "forced" to cut a deal with the powerful health insurance industry. Does ANYONE KNOW what the ceo of United HealthCare took Home for 2008 Salary? Hold onto your hats: $128,000,000 *C A S H* WHILE, Mind You, their paid policyHolders were denied and DIED. The fact that America HAS NO Universal HealthCare System like the other countries, which take care of their citizens, instead of fattening the wallets of the EVIL Rich and paying for THEIR Unending Wars, IS A NATIONAL DISGRACE... Yeah, A lot of US are mad at Prez O, he let the $4.00+Gas and oil go by without a nod. AND that shaking hands with karzai of afghan after what he said????? "thanks sucker taxpayers..." NONEtheless has anybody got an idea what republicanCrimeCartelSoldierRommel will do to US and ANY economic progress made?? He will GUT US LIKE A FLAPPIN' FISH ON THE DOCK.....You're gonna' see Unemployment up to 30% and NO Social Security..Gotta Pay for New Wars And NO MEDICAL CARE AND "healthcare" policies cost SKYROCKET out of control. Don't fall for the republicanCrimeCartelPropaganda and just say NO!!! to MittTaxPittanceRommel.
Here's the rundown on Mitt Romney's devastating record as CEO of Bain Capital, a tenure marked by bankruptcies, bailouts, and mass layoffs — all while Romney and his partners raked in Billions of Dollars in profits for the firm and Romney himself amassed a Quarter-Billion Dollar Fortune.
Romney's Bain Capital Caused Mass Layoffs, Sent Jobs Overseas
Thousands of Americans were laid off by Bain Capital at companies it purchased, managed, and, at least a quarter of the time, drove into bankruptcy, ruining Lives, Destroying Careers and Families including Many Many Suicides While stuffing his pockets, Keeping his Darling son OUT of service to his country with the line "My son is Fulfilling his Patriotic Duty by helping me get elected"...Got that one?? and, Of Course, installing the InHouse car elevator for his "darling little boy's $180,000Ferrari....Listen Up People...This guy IS Count Dracula In carnate
Bozobama had better be thje LAST person to say anything about ANYONE'S competence in a job or qualification for ANYTHING, as this fool is STILL the least qualified person in any room he enters. Let's hope the American public recognizes that we need to send him back to Chicago and his precious community-organizing crowd ASAP.
Oh my here we go again with all the “talking points” on the republican side again. All talk and no substance. Let me educate you from an independent stand point.
1. The President doesn’t implement policy, he can propose it. It’s the congresses job to bring it to a vote and either approve, amend or kill it. It’s true the Democrats controlled both houses from 08 to 10 but how soon the republicans forget that nothing could get done with the filibuster right in place in the senate. The democrats could never get the 60 votes to pass anything thanks to the party of “NO”. Remember NOTHING gets done unless approved by congress. One argument debunked.
2. The 48% that so called don’t pay taxes…Guess what, When you get paid, taxes come out. Even if you collect unemployment, you still pay taxes. If you get paid by ANY organization or company, taxes come out. The only time you don’t pay taxes is if you don’t claim any income for the year. Again, debunked. (Remember the argument before you answer).
3. I would love to know what “American Values” and “Moral Issues” the President is against? This is a very good “Tea Party” talking point that is again all talk and lack substance.
4. Sadly Romney’s whole business experience is taking over failing companies, robbing them of their benefits and 401k’s, firing everybody and distributing the money amongst the shareholders. Remember Romney said himself and I quote “I love to fire people.” And “Let the auto companies go bankrupt.” (which he is now trying to take credit for their success).
5. Through Obama’s own policies of providing tax breaks for small businesses and rewarding companies for bringing jobs back from overseas, 2.4 million jobs have been created in the past 25 months. All the while unemployment has not ticked up at all but painfully dropping at a snail’s pace. Nevertheless, it’s still improving.
6. The REAL reason why we have no budget passed is for the same reason the “Bush Wars” were not included on the any of the previous budgets in the past This is the main reason why the republicans are pushing for a massive uptick in defense spending so that can “add” the cost of the wars in without no one noticing. Say what you want but the democrats AND republicans are smart on this one as they didn’t want to see the massive increase in spending and thus tacking on the blame for more spending from the right or left.
Anything else you want to add or try and debunk or challenge my answers? Would love to hear it.
You have to be kidding me or you are totally ignorant of the facts. The reason the Democrats took over in 2007 is because the economy was already showing the strains of 6 years of Bush policies. That 6.5% unemployment rate - that's an average over all the Bush years, eh? You do realize that it was 4% when Bush took office, don't you? And the day he left office (Jan 20, 2009) it was 7.6% and rising fast!
And while you emphasize the fact that there was a 2 million job loss from the start of Obama's term to now you ignore the fact that 2 million jobs were lost during Bush's 8 years in office. The 8 years previous, when Clinton was in the WH, the country gained 20 million jobs.
The fact of the matter is, Bush, along with 6 years out of 8 with Republican majorities in both houses, did a really @!$%#ty job of managing the US economy and we are still recovering from that. If you would "gladly tajke the Bush economy" I think you would be the only one glad to have that back!
Nothing says accurate like a NewCorp/Comcast poll....
(facepalm)
Yeah, Rassmussen doesn't poll 18-21 year olds that tend to vote for Democrats.
This ain't 2010......Republicans running on jobs, jobs, jobs that never came......
LMAO @ "Hope We Change" I hope we change too. Change the way the American elected does business with the people of this nation. One side cares about the people. The GOP cares about the world and wars.
@ GoJo.. If the GOP were/are concerned with jobs, were are the proposals to create jobs? Where are the proposals to help restore and rebuild our nation? The GOP just want to slash every budget back to Bushes budgets, when playing fast and loose with money, laws and rules was ok. Where sitting in a classroom in Floriduh on September 11, 2001 for 10 minutes, after being told America was just attacked, by our own government, is fully accepted and not questioned. THE GOP have failed to do anything to make America a better nation. They obstruct at every turn.
Fact Bush/GOP added $8 Trillion to the debt. Obama so far has only added $1 Trillion.. Look it up people. The GOP will lead us to complete devastation if they ever rule again! We can't afford the GOP in 2012 or beyond.
Love how liberals quote polls when they show Obama doing well and criticize them as inaccurate when they show he doing poorly.
Problem is more and more polls show Obama doing poorly.
open your eyes moron. Bush the military dodging fool, the son.. The dad was just a play bafoon, covering for that senile god you gompers prayed to, Reagan..
The GOP can't see the forest for the trees. Still its always a black mans fault eh? Bush added
Ignorance abounds with you righties!! Clinton Who?? Carter who??? I suspect you think you're being cute eh Gojo??? Reagan WHO???? Oh yes..that senile old fart that started the golden shower for this country and ran the deficit up to the moon. You going to bid on that "priceless" vial of his tainted blood? It's up for sale you know...................UGH@ rwnjs
George Bush says, Don't look at me - I was gone 4 years ago, leaving behind the worst crisis since the Great depression.
Bush says, 4 years is enough to blame it on others, although, Bush says, I know the country did not emerge from the Great Depression until after the end of WWII (1929-1945)?
I'd like to remind everyone that Bush JR also left Texas in the same sort of mess when his reign as governor ended. It should come as no surprise to anyone that he would do what he did. Texas has just begun to recover in the last couple of years.
Nearly 10 years for Texas to pull itself out of the mess he set in motion. I hope it doesn't take the nation that long.
travelinfotog, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
And remember the Bush economic policies and the GOP tax cuts (Bush never vetoed anything... how could he? He was always cutting brush in Texas) got us here!
Yep, you said it. Cut taxes, go to war twice. That got us into this financial crisis.
I thought a HUGE part of what got us into this mess was the policies put into place during the Clinton adminstration. "Housing for All" even though people couldn't really afford it. Once the balloon payments started the economy went to the crapper.
Funny how convienient it is for some to foget who forced banks to make bad loans and then backed them up with tax dollars.
And exactly what the f**k does Bush have to do with the 2012 election?
Even George Washington raised taxes to pay for the American Revoution - Bush cut taxes during two wars and left us with a huge deficit. How does that make good business sense to cut revenues while your spending increases?
Doh Doh,
That is total nonsense. What got us into this mess has nothing to do with the CRA or any other program out there to promote home ownership. It was GREED. Plain and simple. Absolutely no one forced banks to make bad loans. The banks saw housing prices going up, so they had no risk. They made the loans, bundled them up and sold them to investors around the world. If it was off their balance sheet, there was no risk to them -- at least that is what they thought.
If it was banks forced to make bad loans, please explain why some of the worst problems in the country are bubble cities like Las Vegas, Phoenix, FL and CA?? Did these markets blow up because they were lending to the poor? The biggest areas hit with foreclosures is the suburbs, its not the inner city. There are other countries facing similar problems with different policies on the books.
This blaming of the government somehow mandating banks to lend to the poor is a very small piece to this. It was more about everyone making money. The homebuyers would have equity the minute they bought the house and could flip it in no time to make money, or they would cash out with a HELOC and buy a boat, a vacation, a car, or pay for college education. The builders, the mortgage brokers, the banks, the people servicing the loans, wall street bundling up this loans and selling them -- all were making so much money and lobbying to keep this train rolling.
There is a lot more to the housing bust than most people realize.
Bush and his "starve the beast" policies are what got us into this mess, that's what he has to do with this.
Republicans are still advocating "starve the beast" policies hence its relevant in this election cycle.
WHOA, WAIT a damn minute.. Tax cuts CREATE jobs.. Or so we have been told forever. If they do, show me proof, because I don't ever see it, nor do we hear it about ever happening. ..
Or was it wars that we got ourselves into, 9-11 (non-commercial dark gray military planes struck the towers, not commercial airlines) Afghanistan and Iraq bankrupted our nation? Wait, those helped rebuild our nation too..
So whats the problem. I mean Bush had unprecedented business collapses under his tenure, yet those hardly get talked about. Enron helped get that ball rolling, well so did deregulation.
cokeorpepsi I agree. The banks were told to lower loan standards, not have their brains fall out. The number of what are called "liar loans" that were made is insane. That's where loan information is completely MADE UP and false doc's created to support it. Not only that but the banks were rubber stamping loans.
The government NEVER forced the banks to operate under such conditions of greed and corruption. Greed and corruption is what got the entire world into this mess.
What got us into this mess has nothing to do with the CRA or any other program out there to promote home ownership.
Well. it had nothing to do with CRA. That program had existed since 1973 without crashing the economy. But it had a helluva lot to do with Bush and his "American Dream" initiative!
Start with when Bush was elected... From a radio address to the nation in June, 2001, just six months after Bush took office:
For instance, while the rate of homeownership amongst all Americans is nearly 68 percent, the rate among African-American and Hispanic families is under 50 percent. One particular program, the American Dream Downpayment Fund, will provide $200 million in downpayment assistance to help 130,000 low-income families buy homes.
All legislation is documented on government websites. Look this one up; it is quite interesting:
American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI) - signed into law on Dec 16, 2003.
Sponsor: Sen. Wayne Allard [R-CO]
Co-sponsors: Samuel Brownback [R-KS]; Conrad Burns [R-MT]; Ben Campbell [R-CO]; Michael Crapo [R-ID]; Michael Enzi [R-WY]; Charles Hagel [R-NE]; Lisa Murkowski [R-AK]; Richard Santorum [R-PA]; Jefferson Sessions [R-AL]
Note that there was not one Democrat co-sponsoring this bill. The bill was sponsored by a Republican, co-sponsored only by other Republicans, passed by a Republican majority in the House and Senate and signed into law by a Republican president. This act dropped the downpayment for GSE loans (freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and FHA) to 3% from 10%.
Here are some excerpts from a fact sheet passed out 1 year before the bill was passed. Itr includes a list of things that the administration had already accomplished before the bill was passed:
The Administration also implemented a hybrid Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM) product that makes it easier for new homebuyers to stay in their homes in the first few years.
Substantially increasing, by at least $440 billion, the financial commitment made by the government-sponsored enterprises involved in the secondary mortgage market specifically targeted toward the minority market.
If you have studied the home mortgage crisis at all, you realize that there are two things that every economist blames for the crisis: the rise in ARM's and the increase in the secondary mortgage market - here we have Bush claiming credit for both: the development of ARM's and a $440B increase in capital for the secondary mortgage market. Results of the extra cash in the Secondary mortgage market were predictable - more money = higher prices and the beginning of the housing mortgage bubble.
If you look at it critically, Republicans in general and George W. Bush specifically were responsible for the mortgage crisis!
WHEN is Obama's first day of his tenure as president? I thought he was took the oath of office Jan. 20, 2009. I guess I was mistaken, since all the failures of the present term, are attributed to Bush. Bush sure had a good tan on that fateful day in Jan., 2009. Vote for the American this time, if you love America.
Bush's failures are still being felt today. Thats what he has to do with the 2012 election. Open your eyes son his tab didn't stop in 2008 when he left office, he was a poster boy for off the books military spending.
thanny, is that a Fanny with a lisp? George Bush will never give up the presidency in your eyes, being as how Obama never ascended to the presidency in your mind. Well, hell, FDR was blaming Hoover for twelve years of the depression, just prior to his death in the third year of his third term. At what point would Obama become responsible for his presidency in your mind? The man is a joke of a president, no experience except for rabble rousing street protester.
I know Dave we should have elected McCain and everything would be just dandy today. He would have reversed the stock market and housing crash with the snap of a finger. That is how things work in your repbulitard world, right. Get over yourself, and grow a brain. Resessions don't happen over night and they take time to fix.
DJIA Dec 1, 2008 = 8149
DJIA May 19, 2012 = 12369
DJIA, 2007, 13000+, when dems took over all of Congress, both houses. It has been downhill ever since.
Dasvet,
Sure, that is the way it happened. The Dems took over congress and everything hit the fan. You live in a fantasy world or you have no idea how an economy and government work. This is decades of bad policies on both sides of the aisle which has led to the financial meltdown. Deregulation on the banking and mortgage industry. There were several regulations taken off these industries since the 90's and early 2000's which led to this. To blame one side for everything and ignore what the other party did is just plain stupid.
If the amount of money spent on lobbying Washington would be spent on fixing real problems with the country, we would be getting somewhere. Unfortunately, that isn't how it works, and we get the best government money will buy.
You mean that I can't blame one side just as Obama does for every failure he has perpetrated on this country? Of course there is a lot of blame to go around, both sides of the aisle are to blame. Why should I be required to state it every time, with each post, when the left is still blaming Bush after three and one half years of Obama's his presidency? My point is to stop the bleeding of my country, and getting rid of Obama is the first order of things. Its as if Bush was elected for his third term, and Bush was placed in office on Jan. 20, 2008. Forgive me, but that tanned guy on Pennsylvania Ave that day looked exactly like Obama. I will vote for the American in November, and that has nothing to do with Obama's birthplace.
Don't most poll say that kind of thing?
Obama is a poor excuse for a President when it come to the economy he has done nothing ...not one thing to help it.
Joe: We aren't loosing 700,000 jobs a month as we were when President Obama took office....in fact we have had job growth for the last 26 months...don't you think that is something?
Or how about the stock market was around 7000 when President Obama took office, now it is 125000.
One of the problems I have with President Obama is that he continued many of Bush's policies...which got us into this mess. I hope during his second term he is able to change policies and continue the recovery at a quicker pace.
That is because Obama doesn't have the economic background to understand HOW to help the U.S. economy. He's a lawyer....not an economist or businessman.
Stop blaming Bush hes not the President ..blame Obama hes the one thats not doing his job..vote Republican in November like most people will. We need real change not hope and change we didnt get.
Vote republican because we have not had enough tax breaks for the rich. We need more trickle to trickle down, that why trickle down economics have not worked yet.
Yes vote republican if you are just stupid!! Works for the Teabaggers!! They think they are fighting for personal liberties and freedoms lololololol
Look at the GDP graph. The economy has grown each and every quarter since Obama was sworn in.
http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/gdp/gdp_glance.htm
Good one!
Joe66 with your logic If I get a women pregnant and she has a child but marries another man I am not responsible for that child. Think, please!!!!
If I screw up something until it gets repaired or fixed it still my responsibility even if I am not the one fixing it.
Obama/Biden 2012 "Fixing bush's mess since 2008"
Pissedoffperson,
obama is a teabagger. There are pictures of him leading a parade in full colonial dress, with don't tread on me flag's waving behind him. Hyde Park 4th of July 1997.
Wow , talk about stupid!!
It's sad how many people think it is okay to steal from those that work harder and smarter.
The stock market and the NYSE have gone up despite Obama, not b/c of him. The same goes for any economic recovery that's happened. Not to mention that with inflation going up, those numbers are definitely skewed and don't mean what you think they do. If they weren't, we wouldn't have companies still laying off workers and new business start ups wouldn't be at their lowest in decades. You people need to think before you speak, especially when it involves just throwing out numbers that you don't understand. Libs talking about economics always makes me laugh.
Pissedofperson,
How is that stupid?
Thomas, both the economy and the stock market have grown DESPITE the republicans repeated attempt to block the recovery!!!
At a time of crisis, with the country’s entire financial system near collapse, with the economy collapsing, with the stock market collapsing, with unemployment skyrocketing, with people losing their jobs and retirement money, the GOP announced that their NUMBER 1 PRIORITY was to assure that Pres. Obama was a 1 term president---- even BEFORE he was sworn in!!!
They abandoned their duty to the American people for the sake of sabotaging a new president taking office in the midst of the greatest crisis since 1929.--- for the sake of political gain! I don’t know if that fit’s the legal definition of treason, but it sure smells like it and is at the very least, un-American and unpatriotic. Never before have I seen a political party abandon it’s country in time of crisis! NEVER!
Job1, uhhh...did you look at that graph before you posted it? You said that the economy has grown each quarter since Obama has been in office. It went down every Q in 2010. Do you know what the words "economy", "grown" and/or "quarther" mean? Not to mention, look at the 4Q of 08 and 1Q of 09. What can we think of as a group here that could've possibly happened in 4Q 2008? Hmmm...could it be the election of Obama? You have positive GDP growth until 3Q 2008 (during campaign season when Obama was leading in the polls) then it plummets when he gets elected. What does this tell you? Anyone? Anyone? It tells you that Wall Street is very well aware of liberal economic policy and people started pulling money out of the market in preparation of 4 years of hell. You idiot libs need to stay out of conversations about the economy. You also need to stop smoking crack. It's bad for you.
The Middle Class are the true job creators, despite what Romney and the Republicans preach.
Because it was the Fourth of July, could it just be they were celebrating the holiday since the T Party had not been formed yet. MRWSR I thought you were smarter than this.
So Tom, you're saying thatthe Republicans sabotaged Obama's presidency? How exactly did they do that when for the first 2 years the dems held the House and Senate and basically had free reign? And the last thing you should EVER do as a liberal who supports Obama is accuse anyone else of disregarding the lives of the average American for political gain. That is the very definition of hypocrisy. And you want to talk about abandoning your country in a time of crises? How about the dem controlled Senate not voting on let alone passing a budget in 4 years for no other reason than Harry Reid doesn't want anything else on the record for his lib Senators who are running for reelection. Don't talk to me about abandoning your country for political gain. Talk about irresponsible treasonous acts.
MRWSR
Your comment is incorrect.
Tis,
Come on Tis, get a since of humor. I was throwing that at pissedoffperson. I could care less what he wore or when he wore it. Was just poking at him.
MRWSR, written words do not convey tone or inflection which is why we get into so much trouble with the written word.
Joe, you need to stop listening to CNN and MSNBC. ALL the republicans preach is that the middle class and small business are the true job creators. That's core economic ideology on the right. Just b/c Obama or the democrat party tells you something doesn't make it true or fact. If you libs could for one second understand that there's a chance that there would no longer be any liberals.
Talk about irresponsible treasonous acts.
The original Tea Partiers protested taxation without representation, not the mere fact of having to pay taxes! My God, every country in the world collects taxes.
Today's Republican right-wing equates tax evasion with "freedom" and "liberty." Talk about treason! They don't want to pay for the two wars we fought, or pay for infrastructure, the needs of the sick and elderly or the education of the next generation. Selfish sociopaths masquerading as "patriots" if you ask me! The original Tom Paine must be rolling in his grave.
No, what gets you in trouble is basing your entire political ideology on the fantasyland that your party tells you is real, especially when that ideology is based on an unsustainable and inherently flawed political and social paradigm. What gets this country in trouble is that there are way too many people that live here that adamently refuse to use their brains (i.e., Obama getting elected in the first place) and then blame the guy who told you not to do it when things go wrong.
Tis,
Sorry, did not realize the severity of my discourse. Will refrain from any more attempts at failed humor.
Amy, I'd be surprised if you put the right shoe on the correct foot before you walked out the door in the morning. What the original teapartiers were protesting was about 1-2 cent tax on the dollar. How do you think they'd react to the gov't taking 30% of everything you bring in? Probably not well. Also, it's hard to take you seriously when accusing the right of tax evasion when your Messiah wants to base a tax raise on a guy who hasn't paid his corporate taxes and owes the gov't $1B in back taxes (Buffet). The rest of the stuff you said you're just making up as you go and I don't feel obligated in any way to respond. So I won't.
MRWSR, don't stop just put a smiley face behind it. Some of us just don't read humor to well.
@ThomasPayne, look at the graph again, the GDP has grown each and every quarter since Obama was sworn in.
The real Thomas Paine advocated for overthrowing the 1%'ers of his day. Today's "Tea Partiers" want to increase the wealth of the artisocracy of hedge fund managers and corporate CEOs at the expense of the nation as a whole, which was not Thomas Paine's intention. My gosh, don't you realize Paine supported the French Revolution which was all about overthrowing the tyranny of the wealthiest 1%.
Dude, you see those dark rectangles? Those represent GDP. You see how starting in 1Q of 2010 how they GO DOWN through 1Q of 2011? That represents a DECREASE IN GDP. This isn't hard to understand.
Thomas...
That is the correct path !
Pissedoff...
I gather that anybody who doesn't agree with every one of your thoughts is either wrong or stupid.
Good to know.
Well apparantly Obama's "trickle up" policy hasn't worked either.
Get off your high horse Thomas Pain!! What makes you think you are so almighty right?? Oh but I guess you are.....a right wing nut job. Suck back on some more koolade or is it that good ol corn likker? ewwwwwwwwwww...
Obama is a poor excuse for a President when it come to the economy he has done nothing ...not one thing to help it.
Bullcrap!
...the numbers for Bush's last three months.
Please don't say this. I'm already mad enough. This is truly robbing from the poor and giving to the rich.
I think most of you don't know enough rich people. If you did you'd realize the only difference between you and them is the willingness to grind anyone you can find into the ground for profit. Oh yes and a complete and utter lack of conscience about it. Remind you of any amoral person you know running for public office?
Economy is doing better than when President Obama took office...is it great...heck no...but then any rational person knew we could not climb out of the hole Bush got us into in a matter of a few years...regardless of who was elected president.
I have seen absolutely zero info on what Romney's plan is for America...hope it is not what he did in Mass...which was 47th in job creation while he was govenor.
Romney gives no specifics for how he will do anything. He's even hiding from reporters at this point.
How can you run for president say you're going to improve the economy, but NOT tell the American people how?
Obama did it. Obama ran for and was elected president w/o telling the people how he was going to do anything he promised.
Eric...
What are the president's "specifics"...besides the oft repeated and beaten to death "Buffet Rule"...which will produce pocket change for our government ???
Joe D...
Still waiting after 3.5 years for Mr. Obama to give us his "how".
Mutt is a coward and a simpleton!! Liar also comes to mind. Bully boy Robme also hides behind Ann's skirts.
What is Mutt's foriegn policy? Bomb Iran??? Wow................
Obama can spend all the money in the world and he will still NOT BE RE-ELECTED!!!!
You can't hire a community organizer to do a REAL JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!
That community organizer saved the auto industry when Romney wouldn't have. He's made sure the economy has grown each and every quarter since he was sworn in.
Vote out "trickle down" economics in 2012.
I'd be shocked if you actually knew what trickle down economics are. I also find it incredibly interesting that you know exactly what Romney would've done with the auto industry when he wasn't involved. ESP in reverse is a helluva gift. Congrats. I also really enjoy your take on economics. Too bad that listening to a liberal talk about the economy is like a brain surgeon taking advice on how to remove a tumor from a junior high school art teacher.
And since "the Messiah" did so well with the auto industry, how's GM is doing right now by the way? Good call on the Volt there guys. Good thing the gov't didn't have anything to do with that one. Oh wait...
Thomas, Romney would have done just what he told Obama to do. Remember Romney saved the auto industry just ask him.
Thomas, do you remember the "Pinto" by Ford now that was a good one, or the Gremlin by AMC. The Volt was not ready nor is the country just yet, we are still to fond of our oil burners.
I'm not going to repost everything I just said b/c you either can't read or chose not to listen.
Oh thats right you do not have to explain or defend anything you say, its just because everyone else is to stupid to know better. Can anyone say Republican.
I love how the community organizer has become the rallying cry of the GOP, and how FOX news and the Right wing blow hards are using this very technique to rally its base. Use sensational news stories and spin everything they can to rally the troops. They haven't given Obama credit for one single act since he has been president. Even with Bin Laden, it becomes 'they got him b/c of Bush' or 'even jimmy carter would have made the order'. You lose all credibility when you do this.
If you don't raise a valid point b/c you didn't understand what I said why should I respond? Especially since based on your comments you're probably not going to understand anything I have to say. Seems like a waste of time. I don't know what the Pinto or Gremlin have to do w/ anything. They were mistakes by a private car company. The Volt was forced down GM's neck after the gov't took control and subsidized each car 60% or whatever the number was, something like that. By your own comment, if the Volt or we weren't ready yet, why would GM be selling it? Could it have something to do w/ the gov't poking around in the private sector where they have no knowledge and don't belong? Just maybe? For the record, if you don't respond with something at least semi-intelligent I'm not wasting anymore time on you.
I thought your name was Thomas Paine not GOD!. Many products are brought to the market before the consumer is ready to put the money out for it. Color TV was one. When it was first brought out only a few homes enjoyed it for a couple years before it took hold then everyone had one. To abstract a concept for you. Regardless of who pushed who, the general public was not and is not ready to put the money required to purchase this vehicle, look to the hybrid and see what is happening. The amount you spend takes years to recover with the limited savings. Now look at China and the Volt, different results there, why? Of course I do not expect you to respond we bottom feeders don't meet your superior requirement. So who are the elitist.
Thomas Pain....is a typical "know it all" rethug. He thinks he's GOD!! lol
Gee wasn't the Rambler a product of American Motors?? Ie: George Romney??? Ol apple doesn't fall too far from the tree eh mr. PAIN???? How did that ol Rambler do? Where is AMC now? Oh did Mutt swoop down and trash that co. too? Vulture!!!!
ObserverNYC,
You are incorrect. It's Romney who doesn't stand a chance of being elected.
I love watching the Republicans squirm on these vines, lol. They know Romney can't win this thing, but you have to give them credit for keeping up appearances. They're scrappy little dimwits.
What makes me laugh the hardest, however, is the latest Fox News nationwide poll of likely voters that has Obama ahead of Romney by 7 points!
Of course, national polls don't really mean anything, as we don't elect presidents by the popular vote.
The Electoral College is the sole means by which we elect presidents, and if we go by current polling in the individual states, the electoral totals look something like this;
In the "Solid R, Likely R and Leans R" categories we have the following states; ID-4, UT-6, AZ-11, AK-3, MT-3, WY-3, ND-3, SD-3, NE-5, KS-6, OK-7, TX-38, MO-10, AR-6, LA-8, IN-11, KY-8, TN-11, MS-6, AL-9, GA-16, WV-5 & SC-9 =191 electoral votes
In the "Solid D, Likely D and Leans D" categories are; HI-4, WA-12, OR-7, CA-55, NV-6, CO-9, NM-5, MN-10, IA-6, IL-20, MI-16, ME-4, NH-4, RI-4, VT-3, MA-11, NY-29, CT-7, NJ-14, DE-3, PA-20, MD-10 & DC-3 = 262 electoral votes
That leaves 85 votes still up for grabs (VA-13, OH-18, FL-29, WI-10 & NC-15.) Romney must win 79 of the remaining 85, Obama needs 8. Most pollsters are on the verge of putting Virginia in the "Leans D" category since two recent polls put Obama ahead of Romney 51% to 44%, and no incumbent president has ever lost VA after having won it in the preceding election. So that brings Obama's total to 275 electoral votes, and thus earns him a second term.
It's awesome that Romney can win Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin and North Carolina and still lose the election having earned only 263 electoral votes. That's still very generous to Romney because WI is a dead heat, and Obama is just barely leading in Ohio right now 45% to 44%. Florida looks to be going for Romney. North Carolina is still tied as well, so it really could be either man's state.
It's all right there, folks, you can't argue with the math. Mitt Romney has no viable path to 270, the best he can do is close, but no cigar. He'll do a lot better than McCain did, but that's not saying much.
Face it losers, Obama SUCKS.
Romney sucks worse.
Sooo...Romney has added more debt and trashed the economy worse the Obama has? Huh. I was unaware of that. Thank you for educating us. Moron.
you sully the name of a great patriot and skillful writer by calling yourself ThomasPaine1776, moron!
TP not yet but give him time. The latest report shows that over the next 10 years Obama will reduce the deficit by 2 trillion dollars and Mitt with Ryans help will grow the debt by 5 trillion.
Romney, if elected will be Obama 2.0.
Amy, for the record I would be shocked, no, astounded if anyone in here has actually read common sense. I know you haven't b/c you wrote that TP was a skillful writer. He absolutely was not. He had some great ideas and philosophies but he was droll and boring on page. If you'd have read anything he ever wrote you'd know that. For cripes sake, Common Sense was about the formation of government. Are you under the impression that TP wrote books of fiction? As I've said, it's difficult to muster the motivation to respond to you idiots sometimes, especially when you're vomiting out crap that you either don't know about or don't understand.
TP you seem to think your opinion is greater than anyone elses. Sorry but your just trailer trash like the rest of your party.
A liberal accusing me of thinking my opinion is greater than everyone else's, then resorting to name calling based on incorrect assumptions. Interesting and funny. My opinion isn't better than everyone's, just better than yours, buddy.
Gee TP and using the word Liberal is not intended to insult right. Dude you really have complex going there, get some help before you lose it all. If it is so important that you be right then believe as you wish its your right if that makes it easier for you.
I'll bet you "suck" too....Dave!! How's your boyfriend tonight?
I'm so tired of hearing how Obama's economic policies have failed, when they have either worked quite well(stimulus), or have not been given a chance(Obama's Jobs Plan). He is constantly critisized for not creating jobs, but the Republicans blocked his jobs bill. It is really the republican congress' policies that are failing. But I guess that is their plan, slow the economy and blame Obama.
What Romney learned in private sector is that you can take over a company, layoff employees and cut costs, then pull out equity and let the company go bankrupt. I don't want to see those policies applied to the nation.
You're right on the money ! Good comments.
We all have to sleep at night
Sorry, we were part of the Stimulus plan, and it didn't work, even The Pharaoh stood and said it didn't. We've move from DEM to REP and will be voting for a REP as long as they stay conservative - smaller government, less restrictions on business, lower taxes, and yes, a plan for Illegals, and NO to that tax oriented OBAMAcare.
The Obama jobs plan was voted down in both houses unanamously. Not one democrat voted for it. It failed because it was full of spending and tax increases. Go read it. It's the roadmap to failure..
Let's face it. The spend/borrow/tax mantra of President Obama hasn't worked since the Roosevelt era. We don't need four more years of this disastrous experiment.
Letusreason - my God man, do you ever look up the facts, pull your head out of you know!
It was Republicans insistence that spending be cut when Roosevelt was in office that kept us in the depression for 6 more years than we needed to.
Republicans want to do the same thing again. Talk about not learning from history.
You libs like to rewrite history to fit your own agenda and then accuse others of not knowing history. You're right, I don't know your version of history b/c it's hard to keep up with you as you make up facts as you go. What's irritating is you accusing others of not knowing facts. For instance, did you know that the stock market crashed in the early 20's and it was every bit as bad as the one that led to the Great Depression? Know what the difference was? When they asked Coolidge what they should do he said, "do nothing, let the market fix itself." Guess what happened? The market corrected itself and it led to the roarin' 20's. When Hoover and FDR stuck their lib fat @sses into a situation that they didn't need to, it led to a 12 year depression. If you want to quote history, do it accurate or shut your pie holes. That will be all, thank you.
ThomasPaine1776
How old are you, 12? My father grew up during the Great Depression and the economy wasn't about to"fix itself" during his childhood. His father was grateful to get work building roads, through the Conservation Corp. organized by FDR to keep people working.
Most people credit WWII with getting us out of the Depression, and why? Because the government borrowed and spent money on the war effort. Government spending on tanks, soldiers, airplanes, and infrastructure got us out of the Depression.
Cutting spending during a recession is the last thing you want to do. Economists say, if Romney gets elected and cuts spending, it will send us right back to where we were in 2008.
TP history your version by Harold Cole and Lee Ohanian: "Though not wrong in every detail, the version of events offered by Cole and Ohanian is still a shocking distortion of what happened before FDR took office in March 1933. In particular, although Cole and Ohanian are correct that the trough of the Great Depression was reached in July 1932, when the Industrial Production Index stood at 3.67, rising to 4.15 in October, an increase of about 13%, they conveniently leave out the fact that there was a double dip"
"That is why most observers date the trough of the Great Depression in the US not in July 1932, but in March 1933 when FDR took office in the midst of a banking crisis that threatened to drive the US economy even deeper into deflation and depression than it had been in July 1932. So when Cole and Ohanian assert that recovery from the Great Depression started in July 1932, and go on to say that the recovery took place during a period of significant deflation, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that they are twisting the facts to suit their own ideological predilection."
Care to comment
Sure, at what point in any of that did you address my comment? You lefties still have no idea what the word "relevance" means. Just b/c someone writes a book about something doesn't mean they're right. That goes for "facts" you libs like to throw up and post links for on the internet as well. And that goes for Amy also. I wasn't talking about what happened during the Great Depression itself, I was talking about what led to it. And what difference does it make if your dad grew up during that time? Is he an expert on economics? So did my granddad. I may ask him what it was like living through it, but I wouldn't go to him and ask for an analysis on great depression economics. Just like I wouldn't ask a bus driver on advice on how to pilot a plane. RELEVANCE, children, RELEVANCE.
TP your arrogance is showing, who says a bus driver can not be a pilot. You remind me of a car salesman who determines the customer coming in the door in a t-shirt and jeans can not possibly afford the car you are selling. So you hand him over to the new guy as a joke only to see the guy in jean pay cash for two new cars. That by the way is a true story, stick your nose any higher and someone may run over it with a lawn mower.
ThomasPaine1776
My point was, you have no first hand knowledge of what the Great Depression was like, how much people suffered, or how FDR handled the recovery, otherwise you wouldn't suggest if we had done nothing then the economy would have "fixed itself."
Your belief in the mystical power of the free market is not born out by the history of economic catastrophes. For instance, the Japanese sabotaged their own recovery from a recession by cutting spending before they had righted themselves, leading to a relapse into recession. This is an historical fact. Educate yourself.
Cut taxes....go to 2 wars and stick the country with a wonderful Plan D for Medicare...all the while not paying for these wonderful little ideas of the previous admin. Wow Pain...what part of this don't you "get"????? Are ye pig headed or just full of hate? Or,,,both!!!!
Run along big Pain......
It's ALWAYS been the fool government's overspending that's kept us in harder economic times, as that money has to be stolen from somewhere, and that would be from workers and businesses. Bozobama has been nothing but more of the failed redistributionist policy that failed EVERY time it's tried.
If anyone is thinking that it will be a better economy under a Republican Administration, I suggest the following:
The economy has been weaker and unemployment worse under Reagan , H W Bush & G W BUSH, than any of vthe Democratic Administrations! Check the FACTS!
THe Republican led House of Representatives has done nothing that would benefit this Economy!
Our Country, the U S A, has experienced two (2) ECONOMIC DISASTERS, the 1929 Depression under Republican Leadership, the 2008 Great Recession under Republican Leadership!
It took a World War and 20 years to recover from 1929.
It will take at least 5 years and more honestly 10 years to recover from 2008.
The Democratic Obama Administration saved the U S A & World from ECONOMIC DISASTER, and in a mere 3.5 years turned our ECONOMY from NEGATIVE DECLINE to a STEADY RECOVERY THAT IS POSITIVE and unemployment is gradually declining!
AMERICANS, do not accept lies, open your eyes to reality and honesty!
I am a one time Republican but that ended with Nixon and has been confirmed by G W Bush!
INDEPENDENTS you must FACT CHECK EVERY REPUBLICAN WORD!
Yes, we independants really need to listen to this guy.
When we get a republican president, house or senate things immediately go to hell in a hand basket. Then when we get a democratic president, house or senate things always get fixed to A number one, peachy keen, never been better.
Man, are all democrats good or what? It's incredible really.
Concerned, I have very little to say basically b/c I don't see the point in responding to fiction. The only thing I'll say is that if you're savior is so great, why did our deficit almost double under his watch? Bush's fault, right? And the last thing you should be doing is quoting any unemployment numbers released by this regime, especially when every single time they do it they go back and issue a retraction a week later with worse numbers (which also probably aren't accurate). Any even semi-intelligent person would question how unemployment is decreasing at the same time that no one is hiring.
Because TP, all the bad stuff is still GW's fault but all the good stuff is 100% attributable to Obama. Now hurry down to buy your "Che" Obama shirt before they get sold out. Mine is still on back-order. Deep, deep back-order.
George W. Bush inherited a surplus from Clinton and we were on track to pay down the deficit.
President Obama inherited two wars, a tanking economy and a ballooning debt.
Who is better at managing the economy, Republicans or Democrats? You figure it out.
TP who is writting history now. If the GOP wing in the house and senate would have passed Obamas budgets along with the revenue increases we would be further along now on recovery, but since it is a well known fact that the republican party stated that their number 1 objective was to stop Obama from being elected and not perform there sworn duty to serve the country well guess what it has slowed the recovery what a shock. Please take your self righteous BS and write yourself out of here.
I'm just about done you, bud. The Senate hasn't VOTED ON A BUDGET. That's probably the minority's fault and in no way Harry Reid blocking the vote so his dem senators have at least a prayer of getting reelected. Yeah, that makes sense. And if the republicans in office didn't have getting Obama out as their #1 objective the majority of this country (which is on the right regardless of what your msnbc "polls" say, sorry) would vote them out of office. It's hard to believe you don't recall the 2010 midterms, although I'm confident you don't understand why that happened. And for the record, all I did in my original comment was ask a question and say it's a bad idea to trust the accuracy of polls. Why are you accusing me of rewriting history? What does that have to do with what I said? Nothing, that's what. We're all shocked.
OH but you can't stop yourself from responding you have to show everyone how smart you are, right. Why would Reid bring up a vote he knows will not pass. Why waste the time or effort. The right is only going to pass their ideas as no one else is as smart as they are right. You know that because you keep telling us that. Oh you stop replying does not stop me from commenting and I will. As for polls if you are so correct then why does the right keep pushing the results as if written by God himself.
Best Explanation of Sharing the Wealth
Genesis 47:13-27
ALL I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS IS WOW!!!
RECENT VIRGINIA CHURCH SERVICE - STIMULUS SERMON
I would love to give the Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia three cheers. This guy is obviously a leader. Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is... It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.
Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to get into God's Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will, to the 47th chapter of Genesis. We'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.
Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us? ... (reading) .... Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray. So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt, and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.
So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock - their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year. But the famine wasn't over, was it? So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.
What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?
That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes... That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?
Yes. But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen . And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn't end up giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one.
We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth" once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.
What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah? A savior? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"? Well, I tell you this - I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. OBAMA IS NO MESSIAH! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh. Bow with me in prayer, if you will..
Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day..."
And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government. In God We Trust...
If only we could learn our lessons from history, both secular and Biblical. God does provide if only we will pay attention to Him and try to follow His teachings and precepts. Even liberal Democrats that are believers agree with this.
Jesus was a liberal Jew.
Keep your religion in church!!! I am sick of the preaching from you mean spirited horse's patooties!! Practise what you preach haters!!! Go wash your magic undies cuz they seem to be in a bunch!!
And more respondents (32 percent) in the NBC/WSJ poll said they’re quite or extremely confident that the Democrat’s policies would improve the economy than the 19 percent who said the same for his Republican rival.
But Obama faces serious and stubborn frustration toward his handling of the economy.
This is what I'm talking about with the liberal elitist media insulting our intelligence. Polls are all about who you ask what questions. None of the numbers in this article make any sense in relation to what they're trying to stuff down your throat. They are so convinced that we're stupid that they don't think we're capable of understanding that. Sound familiar? It should, it's the same mind set the entire democratic party has.
Oh tommy P. your so full of yourself. Suggest you practise in front of a mirror so you can admire you intellect because here you are just a little TP.
TP....shut up!!!! You make no sense and I believe you are a narcissist!!
Presidential elections, besides being popularity contests, are all about choosing the lesser of two evils.
Many people say one commentator has a spin, but he can't hold a candle to the spinning of Obama!
The BO and S Club (Soros) must go; they are a true and apparent danger to our freedom. Our forefathers warned of the dangers from within and we are in the dangerous time right now
I agree. However, try telling that to an ideologically driven kool aid drinker who makes up facts and rewrites history as they go. In other words, a liberal.
Been going on since took office.
One of my favorite quotes is from C S Lewis:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
Take it to the bank!
There's not one liberal in this country who would truly understand what you just said. Well put nonetheless.
The Republican Party represents the interests of the wealthiest in this country, while low information voters think voting Republican will make them millionaires. Pathetic, really.
Amy, getting tired of kicking your @ss today. Feels like I'm kicking a puppy who doesn't know any better. I'll leave it at this, you go ahead and cast your vote for Obama in November and we'll see what happens.
Kicking my @ss in your imagination, maybe. I've revealed the depth of your ignorance about American history, in reality.
Amy, there is no point in going toe to toe with TP it just breaks thru and you get sh*& all over your fingers. Really this guy is so self righteous he can't see beyond his nose, no one is smarter thats why he is dismissive of everyone that does not just follow what he says. Can you imagine being around this jerk day after day. After about 10 seconds I would have to slam his face into a door.
Amy - You live in Maine. It could not get any worse or more irrelevant for you. Goodbye
I pity Conservacants who live their lives based on a book that just isn't right and I find libtards who want to steal money from people who earned it deplorable. Sad thing is, 75% of the people in this country will vote for their side no matter what.
The Mormon Church has bragged the Book of Mormon is “the most correct book on the face of the earth”. Those words were uttered for the first time by none other than Joseph Smith himself on Sunday, October 28, 1841.
“I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”
Romney Day One rewriting the book
"And when you're president, as opposed to the head of a private equity firm, then your job is not simply to maximize profits. Your job is to figure out how everybody in the country has a fair shot." Everybody can NEVER have a fairshot under his policies. Small businesses make up 2 of 3 new jobs in the US. If this country had NO private equity firms, we wouldn't have small businesses in this country. Spend, Spend, Spend, can you hear it in his statement. He has no intention of balancing the budget. Our President has NO clue how to fix this economy, he just doesn't know what to do. His agenda is obviously not geared toward the working class people who are struggling more than any other group in the US.
What is a fair shot? You want a free shot! A fair shot is when Gov gets out of the way. You believe in equality of outcome versus freedom to be the best on can be!

Obama is vulnerable on economics only because Americans are too deaf, dumb and blind to see that since Jan 3, 2010, the Republican Party every single economic initiative the President and the Democrats propose. It is ALSO true that the mainstream media neglects to report this because they want to keep the interest up, so they can sell more ads and get more hits on their websites. If the media reported what is truly going on, and the GOP treachery that HAS gone on for the past 30 years, the Republicans would not be in control of anything, nor would they have a chance to control anything after Nov 6th! But the news division, unlike in the past, MUST make a profit so it's in THEIR best interests to keep things "interesting"!
I highly doubt that any media will publish a detailed report showing how the GOP created this debt crisis deliberately so they could eliminate social spending. Apparently, endangering the national security of the United States is of little concern to them!
Of course and no democrat would never think of being politically obstructionist. Nope, never happen.
Tommie - Many Americans were deaf, dumb and blind to the evil intent of Obama before he was elected. Now they can hear, have wised up and can see. Praise be to God and not the allah of Obama.
Also - no one could obstruct the "ONe" his first two years.
Tom in NH, you're an idiot. It’s well documented that Obama inherited a bad economy, and for the first year of his presidency, the unemployment rate flirted with double digits.
The rate didn’t shrink noticeably until it dropped from 9.6 percent to 9.4 percent in June of 2010, then again from 9.8 percent to 9.4 percent in December.
That the economy was bad, and that the recovery reversed during the summer of 2010, surely did not help Obama and Democrats during the 2010 midterm elections.
Since the beginning of 2011, when the newly elected Republican House put the brakes on Democrat run-away spending, things have looked better. After stagnating between 8.9 percent and 9.1 percent from January to October, 2010, unemployment has steadily dropped to 8.1 percent. The rate is .9 percent lower than it was last April.
ssmithlg
Oh please! The Republicans in Congress did nothing to help the nation recover, if anything they prolonged the recession with their doom and gloom. Economists tells us improving consumer confidence is the key to recovery and Republicans actively destroyed the nation's confidence in the President's policies.
Cutting spending creates more jobs??? OMG!!!! HAHAHAHAHA...good one ssmithig........you crack me up!! But nice spin..............
NEVER!
Tom in NH, you're STILL an idiot.
NOBAMA2012..... Libidiots elected a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job.... NEVER AGAIN!
WEll, at least nobody denies what I posted. I wonder what the true anti-Obama motivation is when is a matter of record that the GOP abandoned the country in a time of extreme economic, financial crisis!
Good grief!! I see many hate infested lieing con. men in this forum. When PRESIDENT OBAMA wins this fall....us libs will need to don our flak jackets cuz the exploding heads are going to be going off like IEDs. LOL
Sucks to be you cons.........LOLOL
Many conservatives voiced the prediction of economic doom for many years if America did not drastically reduce government spending and the massive budget deficits. President George W. Bush did his part to move America to an economic tipping point, spending without control and a lax casual attitude towards illegal immigration. The only good about a moderate Republican, is that are not as bad as a progressive. President Obama in his effort to remake an “unjust Country” accelerated the largest annual deficit spending of his predecessor by 4 times to 1.9 trillion for the fiscal budget year of 2010. Most of the reckless spending from the stimulus plan, auto union and Wall Street bailouts were poorly planned and executed. The auto union in the GM and Chrysler bailouts got the goldmine and we got the shaft. The majority of the politicians, who voted for these bills, never read, understood or cared of which they voted. They only voted to appease Pelosi, Reed and “The One”. By yielding their political power, they were good little progressives. The growing opposition of the American People to the out of control federal spending came too late and would not deter Obama’s reckless spending. Towards the end he was forced to reduce spending. He desperately needed bailout loans from the World Bank. These loans came with restrictive financial strings. The World Bank dictated financial policy for the country. All spending by the federal government must be cut by 25% across the board and taxes increased. This also included the salaries and benefits of all government workers, those on Social Security and all entitlement programs. The government employee union bosses called for a strike. Other union organizers sent their members out to protest. The Takers started to riot. They said: “We worked for our money, you ain’t taking it away”. Rioters overturned vehicles, broke store windows and went of a “shopping spree”. Murder and mayhem spread throughout the cities.
Barack’s presence and word was now on television and radio 24/7. He said: You have nothing to Fear, for I am the “One”. “Look into my eyes, hear my words, all who come to me will be comforted”. God hearing his words thought of sending lightening bolts to shock him into sanity. Upon further contemplation, God said Obama was not worth the effort. He tried to suspend the upcoming presidential elections, but failed. This was his only hope to stay in power, to be a dictator for life. If Obama was a computer program, he would be an unrecoverable error for the American People.
Note to Obamanites: The party is over! The fighting in the streets worsened. The shedding of blood, death, and the cries of the afflicted was everywhere. The police first used water cannons without success on the rioters. The riots grew in intensity. Embattled police were forced to use tear gas, rubber bullets and soon fearing for their lives, real bullets. Many police and rioters were injured or worst. The rioters were beyond control. The rioters seemed not to fear death. Maybe it was the influence of drugs, alcohol or the mob mentality. Those who mistakenly believed in Black Liberation Theology were leaders of the riots. They could multi-task being a community agitator while still searching for the “Promised Land”.
It was too dangerous for the news media to record the events. Upon hearing of the departure of the media, Jesse Jackson and AL Sharpton were forced to leave the field of action. Why agitate when you can’t be on television, radio or profit from blackmail. After much destruction and loss of life, the riots were temporally quelled.
So, from here on out - Barak H Obama will be known as "The Pharaoh". Let freedom ring!
Mitt thinks that just because he made a lot of money that qualifies him to be President. Sorry there is also your time as a Governor that was not that good. It take a lot more than that to get my vote.
don-72, does that mean you're voting for the Marxist/Socialist, "redistribute the wealth" candidate again?

The Fortune 500 companies' profits are up 16% over last year, a historic high. All three American carmakers are profitable again for the first time since 2006. Pretty good results for an economy under a Marxist/Socialist, eh?
Barack lusted for social justice through redistribution of the wealth to the “rightful owners.” Whatever the cost to society, he would get even! He knew that reparations alone, would never be sufficient to punish the evil European - Americans, and fully atone for their past racial intolerance. In a mad panic Barack was attempting to empty the treasury. He knew his time was running out.
The name of my God was never invoked except when they used his name in vain or when the “Takers” demanded “Christian Charity”. This was just another lame excuse why they were due the fruits of the labor of others. If the Takers studied the word of God, they would know they would not qualify or deserve “Christian Charity”.
Expect Christian Charity
Expect Christian Charity, to live a heathen life
Provide their every need, please punish me
Work every day, they watch Oprah
Didn’t cause the recession, suffer anyway
No work, no credit’ Barney don’t care
A home loan for everyone: goodbye economy
Unwed mothers, no morals, no worries
They bore the problems, we pay the price
Sperm Donors abound, then nowhere to be found
They have the pleasure, I have the grief
Country near bankrupt, I pay my bills
Many live for today, taxpayer’s handle tomorrow
I like what you wrote, the truth hurts but no one listens we are sacking the future with huge debt but they are too dumb to understand because they worship barry!
nazrite and billof,
You people "kill" me with your sanctimonious accusation of over spending. The Republican game is all the same, and it has remained the same for over 40 years. You all overspend when a GOP administration is in office by making middle class America fund fund coporate tax cuts by austerity and explode deficits. Spending makes the economy stronger......period. The problem with you all is your belief of only wanting to simulate YOUR economy instead of the ENTIRE National economy.
Reagan (GOP) national budgetary deficit leaving office in 1988.........$550 billion
He raised taxes 18 times.
Bush 1 (GOP) national budgetary deficit leaving office in 1992.........$385 billion
He raised taxes 7 times
Clinton (DEM) national budgetary deficit leaving office in 2000.........ZERO
after line item veto of Newt's Balanced Budget Act HR 2014 on 8-11-97 of provisions 15-34 which eliminated Coporate tax cuts.
Bush 2 (GOP) natio zero timesnal budgetary deficit leaving office in 2008.......$5 trillon
He raised taxes zero times
THe GOP (Grover Norquist) are selfish Pigs and they don't care who's economy they destroy, as long as it isn't their own.
