Wisconsin Democrats nominated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett as their candidate versus incumbent Gov. Scott Walker (R) in the June 5 election seeking Walker's recall.
The Associated Press projected Tuesday evening that Barrett had won the Democratic nomination over rival Kathleen Falk, a who had enjoyed the support of organized labor and the state's progressives.
Barrett's victory sets off a June 5 election versus Walker, a national Republican figure since his controversial effort to overhaul Wisconsin's collective bargaining laws for public employees shortly after assuming office in 2011.
The contest will mean a rematch between Walker and Barrett; they fought each other in the 2010 general election, and Walker won the governorship with just above 52 percent of the vote.
A Marquette University Law School poll last week pegged the early June recall election as a veritable dead heat between Barrett and Walker.

This June election will say alot about the November election for both parties....
Walker has raised the most money ever of any candidate for office in Wisconsin. The majority of which coming from outside the state from the likes of the Koch brothers with the blessing of Grover Nordquist and Karl Rove.
Will Americans keep letting outside influences and big money buy elections?
Let' hope not. RECALL WALKER WISCONSIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re kidding us, right?!!!!??!!!!! LMAO!
No wonder people don’t take you and your ilk seriously!
Here’s a thought, tell your big unions to stop coming in and funding local campaigns if your sooooo upset over “outside monies”
DumbFux
Yea, thats right, only corporation and people with income over $1 million should be able to contribute.
Stupid sh$t
Might as well initiate an “Election Panel” since the looney left and their Messiah want Death Panels for our health care.
That way, you, and only you can determine who can give contributions to whom.
DumbFux
thanks for proving my point about stupid sh$ts

The Looney Left ~
They know what's best for everyone....Don't lead your own life!
Cradle to Grave Baby!

Okay, now it's time to kick some Scott Walker butt!

Your both suspended for 1,000,000,000 years for the childish name calling.
Have a nice day,

The radical unions spent millions to force this recall.....and now the Democrats nominated the same union poodle Tom Barrett who lost to Walker 2 years ago, and rejected and even more pathetic union poodle.
Walker's ratings are improving, because his policies against crooked public unions have been proven correct.
If Gov Walker wins the recall, Wisconsin will go GOP in the Fall.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/wi/wisconsin_romney_vs_obama-1871.html
Bob, whoever wins the gubernatorial race in Wisconsin doesn't seem to have much effect on the presidential race...Obama's well ahead of Romney there.
That's not true Bob. The unions have very little say in this one, much less money. Unions make up a small percentage of the workers in Wisconsin.
Walker has raised more money than any other candidate for office in Wisconsin ever - that's right, ever. More money than Santorum raised for his presidential run. And almost 90% of that has come from outside the state - can you say Koch bros?
Pretty ugly state of elections when outside money controls the state. Citizens United has to be overturned as every candidacy is being bought - i.e. Romney. Walker was voted the most dishonest of all the newly elected governors by right-wing leaning Politifact.
As example, Wisconsin rated dead last for job creation last year as WI lost more jobs than any other state, but his ads paint a different picture. Sound familiar - that jobs mantra out of the GOP to get elected but no jobs created? Instead, as in the rest of the country, Wisconsin got RWNJ ideology - gun laws, abstinence taught in schools, women's rights legislated against, and oh yeah - he raised Wisconsin's budget by giving more taxpayer dollars to big business job creators that just pocketed the money. Taxes are ging up and to cover a shortfall Walker stole Fed money designated for homeowners under water with their mortgage. What a guy.
Its the end-around play by the GOP to take control of the states. Let's hope voters can weed through the lies the GOP is throwing at them - we need the Truth Act back. Let's take back our states and our country from this loony GOP.
RECALL WALKER WISCONSIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah yes, those "radical unions" which helped create the middle class - you know, the people who buy the stuff that the companies make, therefore spurring the need for job creation. The same unions that led to you having safe working conditions, a minimum wage, weekends and holidays - yeah, real radical. The public unions were the last ones that still had any clout, and that's what the right wingers are trying to gut. As go the public employees, so too will go non-union workers and non-public-union members. Welcome back to the age of the robber barons and the serf underclass.
Bob, the people of Wisconsin recalled Walker, not the unions. Walker hasn't been in office 2 years - recalled in his first year. Walker is a Koch brothers poodle. And please do cite your allegations of union corruption in Wisconsin.
Otherwise, go back to Virginia.
Walker won't win sh!!.
MY husband worked for GM. He is now retired. It was the union that distroyed GM. The union told GM they never could lay-off people and had to put them into "job banks." While in the job banks GM had to pay the stay at home people 100% of their pay. Thousand of people for years got 100% of their pay for doing nothing. Their senority went on and they could take college courses also paid by GM. It truly was the UAW union that controlled GM or else a big strike that they couldn't afford either. We knew they were doomed. Finally the job banks is gone due to the government bail out. That was the first thing they got rid of. GM has now paid over half of the bail out back already. That part never makes the news. Too bad it doesn't. Teachers also don't get layed-off. Unions just make the school board put them in a room to watch kids with their full pay. Schools just make up jobs for them. Yes, unions are distroying our great country and people like you that won't admit the truth because you are part of the union problem. I wished I lived in your state because I would vote for Walker. He is great and only wants to help Wisconsin get out of the red. Democrates are distroying our country by all the hand outs to lazy people. that is how they depend on getting votes. More people on government dependency the more democrate votes.
Carolyn H: If your comments are directed to me, they are misguided as I myself am not now and never have been a union member. Have *some* unions had too much power - yes. Is it the unions that fought to overcome the injustices meted out by corporate masters and thereby built the middle class - yes. Will the robber barons who are assuredly waiting in the wings, or who have been making their moves for quite some time already (outsourcing, off-shoring, kill-the-unions, fire organizers, ignore OSHA rules, ignore EPA rules, and so on) gladly crush the life out of the middle class for the sake of hording as much wealth as possible for themselves - yes.
If you would vote for Walker, you've just spelled out exactly the kind of world you would like to see. If you're one of the robber barons, I'm sure it would be great (while it lasts). Otherwise, you're condemning yourself and the rest of us to live in the 19th century.
The TEA party is well and powerful and organized and as seen tonight able to take out one of the longest in office in Lugar of Indiana. The effort to oust the TEA-Republicans will be a heavy date and it will take everyone to act in November. It has been proven the TEA-Republicans will do whatever it takes to control locally. Extremist are banding together to continue their march on our rights and freedoms and to implement their skewed views onto unsuspecting peoples. The greatest political power is at the local level. Monies, power, influence and infrastructure policies are implemented at the local level, and the TEA-Republicans learned this well. “The revolution is working, we have infiltrated the Republican Party, and we will convert the Republican Party to defenders of liberty” - This statement was made at the TEA party meeting in Texas with Ted Cruz, Ron and Rand Paul and sends chill up my spine. "The concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people and the concentration of power in stricter less compassionate hands." I agree with Carville - It ain't over till it's over! The Treacherous Egotistical Activist(TEA) have scored numerous inroads across America with subtle, yet power grabs to infuse their people into positions of control. Control at the local level and party have allowed the few control the masses much like radical Islam has taken over the Muslim religion skewering fringe ideas and ideals. It has been well documented the Troubling Economic Antagonist(TEA) party would field contestants around the nation to further their skewed, narrow-minded fringe beliefs and effect local and state controls while moving towards national prominence. Get involved locally. That's where the real power lies. Vote straight Democratic Ticket! Effect a change! Make your voices heard! Get active locally - Get active at the state level - Get registered to vote - Vote - Get out the vote!
Our rights have been under fire for years by the democrates. The tea party is the rage of the people against this injustice. Unfortunetly innoccent people will be hurt in the process.
Pleased do detail exactly what rights have been taken away from you by the democrats Corey. Merely spewing false GOP talking points does not cut it.
No way would I vote for the democrates!!! You got to be kidding!!! They are all about hand outs to just control people. You get people on government hand outs as a way of living you totally control them. They have to vote democrate to keep the tax payer money coming in to them. Just like the socialist in other countries. Like the communist parties. We are fast becoming a third world country. We will be having riots in our streets everywhere if Obama gets back in office. He already wants to raise our taxes for the hand out programs. This year we lose the Bush tax cuts and we all will be paying lots more in taxes. There are several tax cuts we lose this year. I know if Romney gets in office you all can blame him. But remember, he gets to blame Obama for the next four years just like Obama blamed Bush. Go Tea Party!!! Go Romney!!! Win! win! win!
Something that might be of interest....Gov Walker had more votes than all the democratic nominees combined(by over 50k!).
Is this a harbringer of things to come?
If it is, and the people come out for the general election in June, this would definitely be validation for Gov. Walker and his policies.
Nothing valid about Walker whatsoever. The man is all lies. Let's hope that investigation gets to him before the election. It would be sweet justice for Wisconsin to see him carted away in cuffs.
Rob - the final tally shows democrat votes outnumbering republicans even with the fake democrats the republicans placed on the ballot.
"Politics without Principle" is the only policy Walker knows.
Hey Bob in Virginia,
The unions which you label as "radical" are the same 'radical' folks who stood up together and fought for such 'radical' things as not allowing children to work in dangerous factories and for 8 hour days and 40 hour work weeks. And let's not forget workplace safety standards.
The 25+million dollars, Walker was given, just for the primaries, was mostly from out-of-state corporate donors who support him because he will do away with all that the unions stand for today which is a decent standard of living for all working people. These corporate donors pay Walker to do this so that they can increase their profits and make all their shareholders happy by earning more on their investments. Apparently they, nor do you care that this is being done on the backs of the average hard working American.
And hey Bob, talk about 'crooked', how about all those Milwaukee County employees who worked under Walker who have been indicted for, among other things, working on his campaign while being paid as public employees and for stealing money donated for war veterans.
But, hey, Bob, being in Virginia, I guess you just don't know what's really going on up in here Wisconsin. I'll tell you, though, national corporations know and they know whom they can buy.
CCH in Wisconsin
Carol,
It would be nice if you knew what you were talking about! Walker isn't trying to break the unions. He took a stance on unsustainable benefits payed to public employees and used the savings toward balancing the budget. Where are the class sizes of 50 students the teachers union promised us, where are the thousands of teachers who were laid off or fired because of Walker's policy? They never materialized did they? In fact everything stayed about the same except that government union employees now contribute more for their retirement and pay more for their health insurance just like everyone else in the private sector. The only problem the courts really had with it, was that it didn't include all public union employees only some. If the police, and firefighters had been included, the law probably would have stood intact.
unions are killing this country and our power to compete in the international market.
highly overpaid workers who are being spoiled by unions.
sure Carol, " I'll tell you, though, national corporations know and they know whom they can buy."... kind of like Barrett and Falgo (25MIL for 25 jobs) or trying to lure Kohl's downtown for 100 MIL in credits, etc and they were already in WI... what a joke. Walker had/has the stones to make changes the socialists don't like. where were the democrat voters for this primary?? as the bumper sticker says, "I'd rather have one Walker than 14 runners"...
bunch of weenies...
Saw a better bumper sticker in Wisconsin - 'My kids are honor students but my governor is a moron.'
No teacher layoffs because so many opted for early retirement. Classes have been dropped by schools and kids sit on floors in crowded schools because Walker made drastic cuts to education. Plus, he wants us to pay for private schools also with his voucher program.
Walker wants the unions gone because union workers lean left when voting - its a GOP directive to bust the unions to destroy their votes. Do you really want Americans to go back to the pre-union days making slave labor wages under slave labor conditions? Be careful what you wish for. Maybe you're too young to remember those days eh? And Walker will go after the police and fire unions next as his Lt. Gov. and others have already leaked his plan.
Let's hope the majority quits swallowing the Walker lies with the kool-aid and sobers up before the election.
Makes one wonder, on whose dime are these people receiving their "pensions" from? They certainly are not "fair and equitable" in comparison to private workers from which the taxes are taken from. Remember also, that even though public workers "pay" taxes, it is a zero sum scenario in that the compensation originates from private industry revenue.
Please illustrate where schools in Wisconsin are more crowded now than they were in 1960. There are still thousands of "empty" desks sitting in closed schools (that are closed because the student population has declined in certain areas by over 30%). It is about time we dropped some of these "boutique" classes, how do they contribute to the betterment of the economy?
Teachers received benefits in lieu of wages for years. Who do you think agreed to that - elected officials. And who said anything about 1960? Please do cite the schools closed due to a 30% drop in population as apparently you didn't watch the recall Walker ads identifying the classes being dropped and where schools were facing closing due to defunding - towns, schools, and classes named.
Please do define those 'boutique' classes you despise. Might want to check where other countries send their kids for a quality education while you're at it. Apparently, they like US 'boutique' classes' more than you do.
ALL STATES SHOULD BE "RIGHT TO WORK" STATES !! Unions are only for democrates and democrates are for increasing taxes or borrowing money from China (with much interest) for their hand out programs. If you get money from the tax payers your government owns you soul. If you are lazy, you don't mind selling your soul to big government. Unions and a democrat governor Gramholm put Michigan in the red. People are still leaving our state. Our new republican Governor Snyder is doing a great job trying to clean up the Michigan mess left by the democrates. Unions were good a long time ago but now have gotten so big headed and think they can do anything they want to do. In Michigan if you work for the state you can leave your pension to one of your kids ( until they die) and not your spouse if you so choose, when you die. Therefore citizens of Michigan will be paying years and years on their pension. Also they can leave their health insurance to one of their kids ( until the adult child dies) after they die. I think it should only go to their spouse and not their kids. We can not afford to keep paying all of this out to their child for many years after the worker is deceased. I am for leaving it to spouses but not grown children until they die. The unions did this to the tax payers of MIchigan. Most of the people of MIchigan don't even know about this. What does your state of Wisconsin have for their government employees?? You'd be surprised. I was shocked!!
The political situation in Wisconsin is just another battle in the class-war between the entrenched rich and powerful against the under privileged working class. The Unions represent democracy and progress-and the conservatives (GOP) fight for the status-quo. It is optimism vs fear, progress versus regress, prosperity for all versus the top 5%, Democracy versus Oligarchy (rule by the few). Vote Independent-!
the unions represent "MAFIA TYPE" intervention/rule of the workplace.
I am Independent!!!
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA 2012!!!!!!!!
AMERICA IS DEPENDING ON US.
Jay - if the unions represent democracy, why is membership and payment of dues REQUIRED at many shops?? democracy suggests a choice...
i'm not in the top 5% and i see what you call 'progress' as a rip off to the middle class taxpayer. my tax bill has gone down for the first time in years. the disasters predicted by you and your buddies haven't shown up. Barrett used some of Walkers legislation to try and balance Milwaukee's budget -that's why your union buddies threw their support and cash behind Falk who had no chance of winning. it was just revenge and a message to Barrett. yeah, democracy and progress... right
rule by the few?? WI elected Walker and now, because of union rabble rousing, will have to elect him again. Sure would like to see the tens of millions you've all cost us for this recall restored.
optimism vs fear? small businesses are more optimistic now than they've been for years and, just in case you've forgotten, they provide most of the jobs in this state.
Jay - move to Illinois - they have what you so desire...
Yes v56, Illinois did create more jobs than Wisconsin - Wisconsin was dead last.
Yet when elected, Walker said Wisconsin would steal jobs from Illinois - didn't happen. Go figure. Must be a better business climate in Illinois because that's what Walker stated would create jobs.
Again v56, Walker used Fed money to balance Wisconsin's budget - stole it from homeowners underwater. Nice try though.
the border has been left vertually unchecked by the US Government to help to counter balance the ill affects of unions in this country.
if the government were to close the border the US economy would fail.
Pure crap from HJ. More money has been spent, more people protecting the borders, and more deportations under Obama than ever before. Pure crap HJ.
And although comical and farcical, that union spew about the borders was a first.
archangel you are kidding, right?
not breaking unions, really? lol!
Virginia is a right to work stae, and our unemployment rate is 5.6%, and our economy is doing great under our great Governor Bob McDonnell.
Facts show that Right to Work states do better economically , and wages are higher.
Unions today are a corrupt political machine. If you work hard and are self reliant, you dont need a union.
If you are a lazy moocher who wants a lifetime job where you cant be fired, you love unions...
Bob, Wisconsin wages are at a 30-year low. Steadily declining for decades now. Again, you're just spewing misleading GOPTEA misinformation. Nothing factual about it. Just like Walker.
Hey bob, how many people in Va are employed by the government? Not state, federal. How much money does Va receive from the governmentrelation to federal taxes sent in?
Bob, you are a joke.
So, after the millions that the unions spent, they still couldn't get their handpicked nominee elected. How very sad! What is even sadder is the simple fact that Walker recieved more votes than all the Dems combined, and it was a totally meaningless election for him. Just wait until the real deal comes along, Walker will defeat (again!) the Democratic nominee.
When Walker does win, will we hear how this is a referendum on unions and the middle class? Will the Dems take defeat with class? Will they stop with the shenanigans which has cost Wisconsin many millions for these largely unsuccessful recalls? Somehow, I seriously doubt it.
Americans are tired. Tired of runaway government spending, of operating Washington with no budget, of the class warfare engaged in by the Dems, tired of "Hope and Change" that didn't pan out at all, tired of a PresiDEBT who is basically campaigning on "I know I didn't get very many things actually accomplished, but it is someone else's fault. Just give me 4 more years and this time I really, really, really promise to do more. Look FORWARD because I know by looking back at my time here is just too demoralizing."
PresiDEBT Obama's main problem is NOW he HAS a record to run on, it just isn't a good one. Will America be duped again by the smooth-talking campaigner in chief? Or have we awoke to the reality that the man is not up to the job?
PS - Hey Mikey. Talk about runaway spending. Walker's budget was higher than that awful last budget under Doyle. Difference is, Walker spent more taxpayer money on his big business cronies.
So much for controlling government spending under Walker, eh Mikey?
The Koch brother's puppet is about to be replaced by a real live grown up governor. Barret needs to campaign on "Education Is Important & Teachers Are Not Thugs". RIGHT now, education funds are being diverted to the needy wealthy. America tested 17th in science and 25th in math, so wingers want to get rid of education and compete with war.
In a recent study Wisconsin was ranked in the top ten worst states for science education and testing. Where in the top ten worst you ask? Dead Last.
Another dead last finish for Walker. RECALL WALKER WISCONSIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This why we need Walker and his policies, to help straighten out the path that has led to this. That recent study was from statistics based prior to 2010...that is not Walker and he had no input into the failed educational system here in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin threw more money per capita into "education" over the last generation than all but a couple of states. Unfortunately, instead of raising the educational bar in terms of competent academic testing, the bar has fallen. Only a fool continues to replicate the mistakes of the past and expect a different result. Give Walker credit in his attempt to undo the failed system, his might not generate the desired results either, but it is better to try something different than continue the status quo that is not giving us the product we need.
If I had any faith that Walker was trying to fix education by defunding it, I'd go along with you on that. But the fix is in on the greater GOP ideal of dumbing down America. At one of the first governors conferences Walker attended, he got slammed for cutting education and for not working with the unions - with many of those doing the slamming being fellow republican governors.
I'm all for teacher assessments and rewarding the good ones, as only a well-educated society and the opportunity for a good education for all Americans will keep us competitive in this global economy.
JSM, how is he "defunding" education? That is a misnomer, is it not?
First of all, please show us a direct correlation how increased funding generates higher level of public intelligence. Throwing more money does not automatically make better teachers, if that was true we should fire them all for sandbagging.
Second, where does the point of diminishing returns come in? Personally, I believe we are well past that.
Third, why should we care what "other" governors think about how we run our state. This is Wisconsin, we have always been a leader and not a follower...even if it is in a direction contrary to what is generally assigned as progressive. Is it not still progressive to come up with new ways, such as steering the boat of state into fiscally responsible direction? To change the status quo because it is not working?
As far as unions, there is no place in public employment where human safety is not paramount for the unions. In private industry, absolutely do the unions serve a purpose and even I am an advocate of them.
As far as being competitive in a global market, take it from someone that actually lives, breathes, and sleeps working in a global market. The myopic view that I read in posts thinking that more of our present educational system will lead to the USA developing the talent to compete is delusional. Most of the best and brightest elsewhere in the world do not waste time on Shakespeare and artsy classes, or four + years accumulating the specific technical expertise that it takes here to be marginally functional within a targeted industry. All this fluff around the true educational goals cost money, of which it is completely wasted from the perspective of advancing the product as a leading edge in a global economy. I see this day in, day out, my counter parts in Germany with 18 months of specific technical training are more competent than most of the six year wonders here with their multiple bachelor and masters when it comes to the high tech industry I am involved with. Unfortunately our educational system here is more of a weeding system for future employment and only it's secondary purpose seems to be to train for the technical world.
Let's see Mikey, GDP keeps going up, more jobs created than during the entire Bush reign, unemployment declining, stock market higher than anytime under Bush, people recouping their lost 401K dollars from the Bush years, more illegal immigrants deported than ever before, equal pay for women legislation enacted, and millions of Americans without healthcare are now covered. And that's just what first comes to mind. And all done in the face of one of our worst economic disasters - Bush. You wanna go back to that?
How's that 'bad economy' talking point working for ya?
PS - Thanks for pointing out that more people than just union people are p@ssed off at Walker.
The entire recall movement was initiated by public unions. Headed by the teachers unions. All of the Recall Walker stations I saw in Northern Wisconsin (Superior) were manned by teachers.
When was the last time a public union strike was held over anything other than wages?
Yes, I'll give you that the initial bargaining rights bomb dropped by Walker started it.
But over a million people signed up to recall Walker, that's not just teachers or public sector union people. Walker's claim of WI being broke, then his attempt to provide his staff with 30% wage increases, hire the construction industry's president's kid out of college with no experience for a +$80K state position, cuts to education and health-care, increasing the budget over last year, abstinence and gun laws over jobs, etc. etc, all came into play to inspire more non-union types to join in the recall.
And the last WI union strikes I heard of was over businesses hiring pt vs. ft people at no benefits, and also over using temps vs. actual permanent hires.
I think more than proving Obama's unpopularity, this event proves the ignorance of voters in America.
And since when can you run for President from jail? There's gotta be a law against ellecting someone who is currently doing time.
What a big bureaucratic mess.
let us lower wages and cut benefits for teachers, fire fighters and police officers, cut programs like head start and medicaid and meals on wheels, cut the number of teachers, FF, and police on duty, so that we can lower taxes on the wealthy and for big corporations. People don't need unions to protect workers... Big Brother, Big Money, Big Corporations; being people too, will do that... Real people with real jobs believe that, just from life experience... Right?
Well it seems that Wisconsin has spoken, personally I am disappointed. But I as a now retired public worker with certifications in many phases of Public Works feel that now the citizens have gotten their pound of flesh, find that wasn't enough.
Many would strip my retirement away. That retirement that I contributed to, paid into a fund that invests my money as well as the part that the community contributed. I worked for less than a comparable wage and swapped that salary for benefits, and the security of a State Retirement fund. This is stealing, plain and simple. It is not enough to be disrespected, now you want that which is mine, earned with my time on earth and even my health.
I do hope in the coming years that you get exactly what you want, you deserve it. With everything that means.
