Despite the focus in recent days on matters of national security, supporters of both President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, tend to agree that November’s contest is likely to hinge on the economy.
At a speech meant to pivot his campaign from the primary season to the general election, Romney said on April 24, “It’s still about the economy, and we’re not stupid.” It was a direct challenge to the president’s record and a move toward making the 2012 election a referendum on Obama’s economic stewardship.
The overall strength of the economy will be illuminated by new jobs data released Friday morning.
While the administration has been able to hang its hat on a series of somewhat positive economic indicators -- the declining unemployment rate, monthly jobs numbers and manufacturing industry recovery -- a potential slowdown in hiring could mean political peril.
But broad statistics don’t tell the whole story. Winning the presidency isn’t decided by national data; it’s decided in the Electoral College, and many of the most hotly contested states make up an occasionally uneven portrait of an economic recovery.
“People will pay attention to their circumstances, and abstract gains are not good enough to outweigh their struggles,” said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a veteran Republican economic adviser.

Mitt Romney waves with his wife Ann after his speech at a primary night rally in Manchester, N.H., on April 24, 2012. "It's still about the economy, and we're not stupid," he told the crowd.
He pointed toward states in the industrial Midwest, where manufacturing growth has been generally slow (though showed signs of improvement this week), and the “sandy states,” such as Nevada and Arizona, where the real estate market is still a long way from recovery.
Many of those states compose the list of the most competitive contests in the NBC News battleground map. That list, which was most recently updated last week, includes Colorado, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia as pure toss-up states.
But compare the performance of a state like Ohio, where the unemployment rate stands at 7.5 percent (attributable to a number of workers leaving the labor force while employment has held steady), to a state like Virginia.
In Virginia, the labor force has continued to grow along with employment, contributing to a decline in the unemployment rate to 5.6 percent -- the ninth-best rate in the country.
“Just from an incumbent’s perspective, anywhere where you have a high unemployment rate, from a political view, that’s a dangerous thing,” said Jennifer Granholm, the former Democratic governor of Michigan, who now hosts “The War Room” on Current TV.
Genevieve Cook, a former girlfriend of President Obama, tells of her college relationship with him and describes his “sexual warmth.”
Granholm’s home state of Michigan, a Democratic-leaning state in the battleground, ranks 36th in unemployment. Nevada has the worst unemployment rate in the country, North Carolina checks in at 47th and Florida ranks 43rd, according to preliminary data through March on record with the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Both Republicans and Democrats acknowledge that voters’ opinions of the economy tend to cement several months before the election, not on Election Day. That raises the stakes for the next few months’ worth of reports on economic indicators, which might shape impressions of the economy on a state and national level.
A new swing state poll shows President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney neck-and-neck, noting the economy is "what's keeping Romney in the ballgame." Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Real Clear Politics Reporter Erin McPike and the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne discuss.
One big report comes Friday, when the government releases data on job creation for April. One private firm’s estimates, ADP’s, projected that job creation slowed to its worst pace in seven months.
Still, Democrats argue, the more important factor at work in the states is whether voters generally believe the economy is improving or declining.
New polling data released Thursday also suggested a gap in swing-state voters’ perceptions of the economy. Seventy percent of Florida voters and 67 percent of Ohio voters said they think the U.S. is in a recession right now, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.
“I think what really matters to people is less the numbers and a government statistic release than the extent to which they feel a sense of improvement in their lives,” said Jared Bernstein, the former top economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden, who maintains close ties to the Obama administration.
And that could be the silver lining for Obama. In the same Quinnipiac poll, 51 percent of Florida voters said they think the economy is beginning to recover, and 55 percent of Ohio voters said the same.
First Thoughts: Obama unchallenged on Hispanic media
The NBC battleground map puts 231 electoral votes -- of the 270 needed for election -- in Obama’s column as a baseline, varying his pathways to victory. It may end up being the case that voters in just enough states feel things are improving -- even if the recovery lags elsewhere -- that the president is able to win a second term.
But the economy isn’t out of the woods yet, and hurdles to recovery remain.
Roll Call's David Hawkings, Center for American Progress' Neera Tanden and National Journal's Ron Fournier discuss the Obama Campaign's web slide show titled "The Life of Julia."
“Things always happen. One of the problems is that if you’re growing slowly, something might come along, like a natural disaster, and slow you down,” said Holtz-Eakin.
Granholm said she worried about the impact of higher gas prices or a slide in European economies having an especially pronounced effect on a state like Michigan, which has already weathered a tough, extended downturn.
“Michigan could not stand another kick in the gut after the decade we’ve been through,” she said.
But for all of Romney’s efforts to cast himself as the more qualified candidate to engineer a national turnaround, his fight against Obama in each state will more likely hinge on a complex matrix of voter opinions than a simple glance at the economy.
Consider states across the Midwest, where growth has been somewhat slow but Democrats have been eager to highlight Romney’s role in opposing the bailouts that contributed to the partial recovery of the auto industry.
“There’s no question that the president will be touting the benefits of the auto rescue,” said Bernstein. “Speaking as a former member of the autos task force, I think that's fair, because the political winds were very much blowing in the other direction. He took a pretty bold step there. “

The words missing from the news video above - is that Ms. Cook wrote in her memoir:
When she told him she loved him, young student Barack Obama replied "Thank you".
Anybody got a problem with that, or has never done that?
And was anyone here, there at the time?
Non-troversial stuff.
PA isn't a swing state. (Obama +6, no dissenting polls)
OH isn't a swing state. (Even Fox and Rasmussen say Obama is ahead, no dissenting polls)
PA + OH + NH = Obama wins @ 273
Anything else is just icing on a cake
There are toss-up states, however, but they become redundant and unnecessary.
Let's us expand the map a bit. AZ, TX, VA, NC, FL. Make Romney defend his base.
All his bases are belongs us.
November’s contest is likely to hinge on the economy.
Gee, you think?
And for this kind of "journalism" you guys get paid the big bucks.
Get out of the Beltway once in a while guys.
In the 2002 Olympics Romney commissioned “We Stand United” American flag pins.
At a fundraiser in Virginia last night, Mitt Romney touted his creation of the pins as a means to explain how he hopes to bring Americans together.
The pins he was so proud of were made in China.
“Michigan could not stand another kick in the gut after the decade we’ve been through,” she said.
I couldn't agree more, Ms. Granholm. 2 terms of you nearly sank Michigan into total oblivion.
Thank God for Rick Snyder and the GOP Legislature.
I have one question...
WHY AREN'T AL SHARPTON AND JESSE JACKSON IN NORFOLK, VA.?
The civil rights of two citizens were trampled upon when a mob of AA men attacked their vehicle, beating the passengers.
The victims were reports for a local news paper and were attacked by a mob of more than 30 men when their vehicle stopped at an intersection.
As it turns out the victims were NOT of AA descent.
So I ask again... WHERE ARE SHARPTON AND JACKSON?
If the rolls were reversed and a black couple was attacked by whites you can bet your bottom dollar that right now those two racists would be in Norfolk stirring up a riot!
Just like the Daniel Adkins story! Where are the protectors of civil rights?
F'ing hypocrites and racists... that's what they are!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
If the economy improves in swing states this election might not be close at all.
The biggest change card for Romney is a good VP pick and soon.
If this administration ever took control of the "Sahara desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand"
Milton Friedman
Yes, I paraphrased.
Leiya123
Milton Friedman is the same guy who claims that corporations should regulate themselves - I guess he didn't forsee the likes of Enron, AIG, Columbia/HCA, WorldCom (the list goes on).
So you see, even your idol Friedman is not always right (or is sometimes wrong - depending if you are a half glass empty/full kinda gal)
The Liberals can spin it any they want but today's polls showed dead heats in Ohio and Florida and that spells trouble for Obama who a few weeks ago had 3-5 point positive margins.
Yes, Mitt Romney, we are collectively stupid - as the lead comment demonstrates.
Yes, Mitt Romney, we are collectively stupid - as our economy proves.
Yes, Mitt Romney, we are collectively stupid - and - you are obviously counting on that.
Unfortunately, they don't need the media to tell them what the economy is doing. They think know the economy is bad, real bad.
This is your economy.
This is your economy on Obama.
Any questions?
Conversely, if the economy does not improve in swing states this election might not be close at all, but not what you are hoping for.
Realizing that almost 80% of the drop in unemployment nation wide since 2009 was actually the result of people leaving the workforce (i.e. giving up on getting a job), I don't think the economy will improve enough between now and the election to justify giving Obama 4 more years.
Oh, and the recent months of consistently revised unemployment data, consistently revised UP, shows that such data coming from the government isn't even trustworthy any more.
Everybody's looking for their 15 min. of fame....anyway, about the economy. I never blamed a President when I was unemployed. I blamed the economy and just kept on looking.
(Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has pulled into a virtual tie with President Barack Obama in the crucial swing states of Ohio and Florida, but Obama retains a solid lead in Pennsylvania, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released on Thursday. PA is very liberal and may be one of three or four states that vote for Obama. Expect a landslide Republican win in November.
This election is about more than the economy. The Republicans have made this year's election about a woman's right to choose, gay rights, science, and supply side, trickle-down economic policy.
We know who has the best policies and vision to move our nation forward.
Obama/Biden 2012
Volt so you hope and pray every night before you go to sleep. As Clinton once said "It's the economy, stupid."
It was actually James Carville, Clinton's adviser. Carville has been complaining that Willard keeps stealing his lines.
This election is about more than the economy. The Republicans have made this year's election about a woman's right to choose, gay rights, science, and supply side, trickle-down economic policy...
NOT! This is almost ENTIRELY about the economy. People like you are trying to convince everyone else that it's not. When you cannot stand on your failed economic policies....try to deflect the minds of people to something different. Typical high school debate type tactics.
Let's all try to understand something...larger government cannot possibly help our economy. Spending more has NEVER been a solution to getting out of debt and sparking economic growth. NEVER put something like the economy in the hands of people who don't understand competition and the need for budgets. Let's see...Medicare - Bankrupt, Medicaid - Bankrupt, Social Security - Bankrupt, Post Office - Bankrupt. EVERYTHING the government controls eventually becomes bankrupt. So it begs the question: WHY INVEST in GOVERNMENT???
I love how the article has things in parenthesises after any comment about how the economy is till not good...(but it could be worse) (but signs show as slow increase)
Nice job MSNBC, of keeping you man afloat in an economy that is bad, I don't care how you spin or what fake government statistic you post.
Leiya123 -- In follow-up to bayllie's post, even Milton Friedman would be appalled by the Paul Ryan budget, as well as Adam Smith who wrote that capitalism only works with ethics and charity.
Just as Paul Ryan was caught in his LIE that his devotion to Ayn Rand is an "urban myth" and the Catholic Church admonishment for following a selfish atheist like Ayn rand contrary to Christ's teachings, rightwingers would do well to truly study these things, as well as lay off the "urban legends they tell about the constitution.
Back to the article -- if "your guy/gal" has an 'R' next to his/her name, throw him/her out and vote for the Dem -- Obama/Biden - 2012!
PS -- The president showed gentlemanly discretion, leaving it to his one girlfriend to out herself. Why does the rightwing have their panties in a wad over a nontroversy AGAIN? Petty desperation!
Ok, let's accept Quinnipiac as god's honest truth right now. They're pretty reliable, we can work with it. So Obama is only +1 in FL and +2 in OH. No worries.
AZ, MO, IA, OH, VA, NC, SC, FL, NH
Remain as the toss-ups
For Obama to win he needs...
AZ or MO or VA or NC or OH or VA or SC or FL or NH + IA
For Romney to win, he needs all of them except NH
If you honestly think Romney will sweep every single one of those states in the General Election, then I tip my hat to your willfully blind partisanship.
May 3, 2012 map here:
They update it daily based on a aggregate of pollsters.
and the John Engler two terms before that drilled the holes in the boat. My how you rwnj's forget. Like GHW Bush's one term presidency. Ya' never bring that up either.
Really, and what have they done (besides piss senior citizens on a fixed income off) to make this state so much better? The rebound of the auto industry does not go in their win column. Snyder's so inept, he can't even manage to convince a bankrupt Detroit to accept a financial manager. He's a one termer.
near the sea - I think you fell in the sea and are drowning in Faux News coverage. You forgot to mention California, New York, Michigan, Illinois and more than likely Ohio. Those are some pretty hefty electoral numbers to overcome. Once Romney starts campaigning on what he will do, instead of slinging mud, because face it, that's all he's done up to this point, the undecideds will see what train wreck he really is and will decide to stick to the current chief exec. I know it's hard to accept, but the truth hurts.

Correction to your post:
The Republicans have made this year's election about a woman's HAVING NO right to choose, NO gay rights...
Again, anyone who wants to explain/defend the Republicans' definition of freedom for all is welcomed to.
Mitt and his wife looked like "Puppets" !!!
TruePatriot-445959
because for some reason they are always obssessed with other people's sex life!
and let's not forget the immigration policies that make anyone of Latino descent a target for interrogation or the omnipresent war on the poor. I guess they still think only whites vote. Got news for you baggers, it's going to be a very cold November rain for you guys.
Facts don't matter to a bagger.
tonybeeerm
I will make a correction to your statement, too: it's rich, white men.
Mitt says something stupid almost every single day. He just opens his mouth and @!$%# drops out. One minute he's on the left... another he's on the right. It just seems like the Left Mitt doesn't know what the Right Mitt is doing and visa versa.
ah yes, the one's who make the marionettes dance. Fill 'em full of fear and you got 'em is their motto.
In looking at the numbers, Obama is in good shape. He's up by 9 points in PA, up slightly or tied in Ohio, way up in Wisconsin, up in Colorado, up in Minnesota and either up or tied in Florida.
Lol I like how the media tries to play this election by making it seem like it will be close. It will be Obama by a landslide trust me.
Lmao....... god from the middle this is funny. you get to watch both sides. And from your left side is where I see all the desperation the name calling the "landslide" predictions. They are no different than the rights explanations all opinion based on "polls" from select people for the most part. I will wait until election day and hope that at best Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are minority leaders.
So the author used how much space to tell people that obama is losing his lead and also trying to soften the blow of tomorrow's labour data.
Don't give up hope just yet. Maybe things will change. But hope and change will not be as a direct result of anything the administration has done. They are still busy hoping for change also.
I have noticed over the last three years, that Republicans on the sites I review seem to push one specific theme that “Liberals” are lazy, out of work, leaching off the Government. Educated persons of course see through this. The “Swing Voter” is an educated, not easily confused individual that will look at what is true in their world - not what the pseudo-pundits of the Web want them to believe.

Unfortunately, if Romney were to get in, a whole lot more stuff will be "made in China" and Romeny, the old "JOBS CREMATOR" will have the middle class struggling even harder.
Obama / Biden 2012
Yeah, yeah, let 'em argue. They are still full of it and will find out that the American voter is not so stupid to believe their, Democrats and Dumbama's, smoke and mirror tricks.
Are you for real, you think made in China came about because of Governor Romney. You have alot to learn. Take the challenge and for one month do not purchase or use any item from China, then the next month expand it to made in Taiwan and so forth, you will now have a learned something, and not just believed what you read inside MSN.
are you for real? Nowhere did American Girl say this. Your Conservative misdirection is showing
If Romney wins, which one do we get? He changes his political positions for every crowd he speaks to. If he is talking to Hispanics he is eating tacos and making joke. When he talks to the other folks in AZ, he talks about deporting millions of people. He talks about creating jobs and then talks about closing down multiple government agencies and putting thousands of people out of work. Obama may suck, but at least you know what you get.
I challenge you to find a pin thast isn't made in China....you'll waste a week.
The election this year will focus on whether we can afford 4 more years of Obama.
Here are the Deficit figures for the last 5 Presidents - with a link to the official government source to verify;
Reagan (1981-1988) = $1.339 Trillion over 8 years, or $167 Billion per year.
Bush 1 (1989-1992) = $933 Billion over 4 years, or $233 Billion per year.
Clinton (1993-2000) = $320 Billion over 8 years, or $40 Billion per year.
Bush 2 (2001-2008) = $2.006 Trillion over 8 years, or $251 Billion per year.
Obama (2009-2012p) = $5.333 Trillion (Proj) over his first 4 years, or $1,333 Billion per year. That's $4.6 Trillion more than Bush spent in his first 4 years.
If Obama is reelected, he projects another $5 Trillion of Deficits in the next 4 years, or over $10 Trillion which our children and grandchildren will have as a 'millstone' around their necks for their entire lives. Running up huge debts is a great way to 'pander for votes', but somebody will have to pay it back (our children) - with interest. Here's the official government link - See Table 1.3;
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals
PS – Let's also look at the 'JOBS' picture under Obama;
The total average number of people employed in 2008 (Bush's last year, including losses at the end of 2008) = 136,790,000.
The total average number of people employed in 2011 (Obama's 3rd year) = 131,359,000 – that's a LOSS under Obama of 5,431,000 net jobs.
Here's the Link to official Bureau of Labor Statistics site on employment to verify - Compare jobs for 2011 vs 2008;

the election this years going to focus on the lack of work.since both parties are for free trade and exporting our jobs im having a tough time choosing.anybody out there that will run for the middle class.please run.both these guys are for the rich.perot was right.
Uneven recovery? Damn! I missed it! Can someone let me know when the recovery comes by again? I hate to miss it a second time.
Michigan is a swing state and the #1 issue here is the economy. I would say it's too early to tell which way we would go. I also don't think the UAW is going to have much of an impact, they are not as big as they were in years past.
Teknishan -
I assume by "us" you mean the voters and not your own political grouping.
Karl Rove is super busy trying to sell us a face. Should be easy, as Romney redefines two faced.
As for Afghanistan, I disapprove of keeping troops in the Middle East one more day, but the defense contractors own both sides of the aisle--so, the wars will go on. It seems like the only thing that we don't outsource.
sandtrich
I think that is why Dr Paul has merit. He would shut it down, and actually focus on defense, like it should have been in the first place.
Engler cut off welfare benefits, that was a good thing. Snyder was a business man and will turn MI around, that is a good thing.
Obama, Osama ...... What's the difference, ones's dead and he wanted to destroy our country and the other is dong a fine job of destroying what's left right here at home.
I say, send the SEAL's to the White House or better yet, because has traveled on Air Force One more than any other President, at $181,700 per hour, I'm sure the SEAL's would have fun with this one and make the whole world happy.
And Joe 'Hidin' Biden, this dumb fugger is so embarrassed he can't even show his face in public, gee, tell me, what has been doing the whole time? Hey Joe, get out from under that desk in the Oval Office, here's a tissue, wipe your chin you pathetic piece of sh!t !
One and done ........ Buh Bye Obammie ......!
Funny how Ron Paul got marginalized by both sides. The two parties are one coin. Or con. Paul is the only one who isn't part of the machine, note who will win the nomination...of course, if by some miracle, Paul was the nominee, he'd end up assassinated ala JFK. Not one of the power players, goes against the status quo, isn't going to pad the pockets of the oligarths, he'd be toast.
Lawdog - Tell me when the Democrats aren't upset!
Technishon
Those polls you love are Registered voters. That is a potential win not the reality. What you want is Likely voters which Obama's lead is cut by 2 - 4 points. The determination of what is a toss-up or not is determined on likely voters, not registered voters.
DB Akron
Here is a funny.
When will they be upset the most?
When the welfare checks bounce.
When is Obama going to get off the its the republicans fault train ?
And could someone please tell me what he has economically accomplished besides low interest rates. Im on either side of the fence here only cause I want my country back.

MG--Ron Paul appealed to a select crowd and while's he's a purists, just as Bernie Sanders is a purist. Blame the homing pigeons that continue to vote for the same career politicians. However, the people have rejected anything but status quo. Democrats and Republican are getting impossible to tell apart these days--they all eat from the same troughs.
As for your thoughts about the JFK scenario, I think you have it right, (as if what I think counts.) When JFK said that he would, "splinter the CIA into 1000's of unrecognizable pieces," he died. The CIA survived but the POTUS didn't. Ron Paul would likely meet the same fate.
I enjoyed your post.
Nice to see the Barry Hussein Kool-Aid Chug-a-Lug Basement Dwellers Communist Party out in force on this thread today.
Geeez... What a bunch of brain-dead cry-baby socialist. The only understanding Libtards have of the words Liberty & Freedom are empowering themselves with the Liberty to spend other-peoples money freely.
I have no love for Mittens Romney, but anyone who votes for Comrade Barry 4 more years deserves a life of misery & failure where the word prosperity will be considered a seditious anti-government idea.
sandtrich
I could be wrong, but I believe JFK died within a couple of months of wanting a FED investigation.
Ron Paul appealed to more than a few. Google him. His delegates are about to win 7 state majorities. It isn't over. Here is a scenario. He is winning state delegates in states all over the nation. Those delegates are supposed to be pledged to Romney or whoever. From what I have read, they can conscientiously object to voting for Romney in the first round. If the second round comes, they can vote their conscience.
I want a third party, and I think Bernie seems like a good man, it is just sad that money buys presidencies.
Bye Bye Barry!!!!
it's over for obama.
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA 2012!!!!!!!!
While congress was considering the stimulus bill the Obama administration generated a report forecasting what would happen in terms of the unemployment rate, if the stimulus bill were passed and is the stimulus bill were not passed. Comparing the projections in that report versus what has actually happened, unemployment has been a little worse than if congress has not not passed the stimulus bill at all. In other words, all the money the Obama administration has spent to improve the economy has not helped to lower unemployment.
The President promised that he would cut the federal deficit in half by the end of his first administration. To keep the President's promise, the federal deficit cannot exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet the President's own White House is predicting that the President will miss his promise by more than a factor of 5. The President needs to explain to the American people how he is going to keep his promises regarding the economy. The President also needs to provide a plan as how much is is going to cost and how long it will take to pay back our debts.
I want what the President promised the American people.
I find it funny that my comment was 'collapsed' just for telling the truth.
Apparently, the truth hurts ..... doesn't it ?
Now there's your 'Hope' and keep the 'Change' .....
i would like to see Obama get fired in November! any serious, patriotic, caught in the middle American can see, he has not been a leader but has severely hurt US these past four years. we can't take another term of his misleadership. get him out!
The re-election of President Obama starts in June with the RECALL OF FAILED GOVERNOR SCOTT WALKER IN WISCONSIN. Then most of the unqualified Tea Party officials from 2010 head to the ash pile of history as the wave sweeps in President Obama for his second term.
Obama got Osama............Osama is dead and GM is alive...........Turn Out in '12
(1) Obama got Osama............Osama is dead and (2) GM is alive...........(3) Turn Out in '12
1. Mr. Obama gave the order to "do it", even Barney Frank could have given the order because of our elite "military" forces.
2. GM and it's Union were saved and the shareholders were thrown under the bus, while the American taxpayers still hold about 27 % of the company stock.
These are the only TWO things accomplished during Mr. Obama's term in office and he is going to continue to run his "I got Bin Laden" ads until the last vote is counted. He will deflect on anything else brought up during the Presidential debate(s).
Yep.....3. Get out and vote Mr. Obama out of office. Enough is enough.
Sandtrich: I think that JFK was killed because of Executive Order 1110 which was to do away with the Federal Reserve and take the country back to coining its own money. The first thing that Johnson did after he was appointed Pres was repeal said order.
Thank you for the compliment.
But GM owes $35Billion in Federal loans still. If you gave me $35 Billion i bet I could start up one heck of a car company!

and there were lots more. I guess "Made in the USA" just isn't important to Willard.
"Assembled" in the U.S. I guarantee you the metal wasn't mined here and the paint wasn't made here and am absolutetly positive that any digital parts weren't made here. Any product that claims to be made here is all smoke and mirrors. To be truly made here the metal would be taxed, the finished pin would be taxed, the finished raw button would be taxed, the digital components would be taxed, the paint would be taxed and the finished product would be taxed. Throw in union wages. Your pin costs $5,000.
Let's see Romney needs a strong VP? If anybody that strong exist they will over shadow him. I don't think the people really want to see Cheney again, I know I don't. He could be the first candidate to run solo. Right now it is just like preseason, the numbers don't really mean anything much. When the smoke all clears it will be Obama. FYI, after Obama It will be another Democratic candidate in office again.
lol @ Zero. You said "made" in America, I gave you "made in America" and you're crying foul? lol... you tools just can't stand it when you lose.
Once again, here's an example of someone on the Right espousing violent overthrow of the U.S. Government, culminating in the assassination of a sitting President of the United States. Yet it continues to be we on the left who are demonized, called "Nazis" and "Communists".
If you are still on the fence on which party to vote for in November, you'd best be clear on where it is that America's most mentally unstable are pooling before pulling that lever; because long before levers were used in voting, they were used in hangings.
Ricks....You think that the far left is the place where there are no "mentally unstable"?? I didnt see anything in your post concerning the Occupy group and the illegal activities of the leftist activists who would gladly damage our country and the law abiding people in it....I didnt see you complaining about the ACORN criminals and the organizers who led them...I didnt see you complaining about the black panthers showing up at poling places with clubs....Surely the liberals are always the civil group, right???
Hmmm...... Does anyone remember the socialist who got voted in over seas? That guy could crash the ero-zone easily... If we vote President Obama out, we might have a chance at saving ourself.... HEY dont yell at me for using psudo scare tactics, you do it to!

He was looking for Michelle - and he found her!
Another indication that he lack vision!!!!! Or good taste!!!!!
he realized that all that he had to do is find the food and he would find Michelle.
Michelle was an activist in one of the many leftwing activist organizations that Obama supported....That is how they met....And that is the truth...

They did this in a time of great need, in the middle of a great recession, and on the evening of the Inauguration of the 44th U.S. President on January 2009 -
They have their "Carter attack" ALL LINED UP.

The Al-Koch(a) 15
Jan 20th, 2009. The Day President Barack Obama was sworn into office as the 44th president of the US. This marked a new day in America as an African American was sworn into the highest office of the land for the very first time in our great country.
Unfortunately for President Obama and the rest of America, a group of bitter men had other ideas. A group of approximately 15 men got together that very night and started plotting the best way to take down America
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wall St.)
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA)
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA),
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX),
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX),
Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI)
Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA),
Sen. Jim DeMint (SC-R),
Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ-R),
Sen. Tom Coburn (OK-R),
Sen. John Ensign (NV-R) and
Sen. Bob Corker (TN-R)
A group of well known republican officials led by Wisconsin's own Paul Ryan, failed presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, and republican racist pollster and Scott Walkers good friend Frank Luntz wasted no time in meeting.
In his new book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives."by Robert Draper , Draper takes us inside that meeting.
Daily Kos, is asking Darrell Issa to open an investigation:
Not only did these Senior members of Congress plot to destroy the American Economy more than it already was destroyed? They actually carried out their mission

It is too late now. The curtain is pulled back. Americans are not stupid as Republicans lies and distortions aimed to propagate
Even reasonable republicans are fleeing the ship like rats. The republicans are losing News cycles big time! bin laden anniversary has taken up nearly 2 weeks, the economy is picking up, gas prices are going down, Romney throws his gay staffer under the bus, and the war on women has been since March; just to name a few. Polls show Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) is actually losing ground with voters despite going on FOX begging for outside money and those Koch bros contributions. He will most likely be re-called. By the way, he has the lowest job creation in the nation.
People vote money doesn't
Beverly,
that made me laugh so much that I almost peed myself!
group of bitter men...lol.
Backhopuse, nobody had to plot against Obama. He was and is incompentent. Hopefully Romney will issue an executive order striking down all of Obama's executive orders used to by pass Congress. The Framers meant for government to do as little as possible and Obama is constantly circumventing it.
GOP/Norquist-ers hope that by putting Big Corporations in control of our Government, they will finally get to deregulate everything, shut down everything, and give themselves more and more tax breaks. Ryan proposed cutting 50 million Americans from health care to pay for a $3Trillion tax cut for the top 1% - and Romney supports it.
GOP/Koch want to privatize, roads and bridges and schools and police. So look out if you can't afford protections for your family, education or toll booths.
They are already making changes to our constitution, viz; Citizens' United that puts votes in the hands of multi-national corporations, already making more than at any previous time in the history of the world. And ending the right for workers to sit around a table, talk about conditions and even share in profits - something that is making countries like Germany great.
Countries that are working WITH employees & making new green industries will lead the world. GOP wants to send us back to hegemony, and one rule.
In that world they are creating, you will have no say.
I understand that you are afraid to see it & are being actively prevented from seeing - that is something the right wing is good at.
The President was a constitutional Law Professor. When the right wing pays $multi-millions in Ads across the country to LIE and claim the exact OPPOSITE of the truth, do you think President Obama would give them a freebee by making a mistake, such as you're implying?
Backhouse and Beverly. LOL They must feed these paid obummer apologists a lot of beans cause those post were some of the longest farts I every heard.
Get the fly swatters out, Mitt Romney and his buddy "leftsux" is coming to town !
A long-time vegetarian, I am A.O.K. with beans. Thanks.
Making comments about/about/about other folks comments ain't worth a hill of 'em, and that is about the limit of the Republican party's capability.
- So you got that Right!
Are you stupid? Romney can't go five minutes without flip flopping on any issue. And please tell us what those "executive orders" the President put forth are. Do you know any, or are you just a Fox shill on the payroll?
near the sea - i'm still waiting, what are those "executive orders" .
Tony,
Do you know any of them? There are about 125.
Yes, I do. But you're not near the sea, so sea ya.
someones make new solar power plants in the nevada desert.im guessing they are taking advantage of government incentives.we need more of that.i undertand we had to send 60000 american jobs as payment to columbia, panama and south korea for their various supports of our policies.however this has got to stop.this idolizing of the rich and support of their outsourcing treaties is destroying this country
I am Independent, but I have to wonder if any uber-liberals on this site have ever balanced a checkbook, or do you simply head to pay day loans. WE ARE BROKE! Blaming those that see it will serve no useful purpose. Even a nursing baby can understand when the teats are dry. Yes, they will cry, but life is a bitch.
Wow, I haven't heard a liberal use the Koch joke before.
(sarcasm)
Same here brother, the I's can't quite understand the liberal logic sometimes. It's not like 80% of the country is blind and hasn't noticed the economy has been in the crapper for the last 7.5 years.
Tsk. Obama is as much a puppet of the oligarths as Romney. Obama love is blinding, especially when it comes to how Obama is busily and industriously outsourcing jobs, paying to outsource jobs, giving money to other countries to bolster their economies (Finnish electric cars, anyone) while doing his level best to sink our economy. Obama is beholden to big Pharma, big oil, big Hollywood, big International banking cartels and a host of thriving Middle Eastern warlords (Karzai) and the Muslim Brotherhood and the Taliban (our new best friends.)

The sad thing is that the answer was stated 4 years ago by Alan Greenspan, but nobody paid attention.
He said that no matter how the government tries to handle recessions, there is only one thing that has pulled the US out of every recession since before the Great Depression, and that is construction. A very wise man, and I will explain why.
People seem to devalue how the construction industry spurs growth. And that is why this one hit so hard, because it hit at the heart of what everyone had been told for a century, that the best investment is your home, and then they got screwed by greedy bankers and loose money. Until that gets repaired, we will flounder. What most don't understand is that most in the construction business can't hold on to a penny. They earn a dollar, they spend it. It is the transfer of dollars, and the speed at which it happens that moves the economy. We are driving a V8, but only firing on six cylinders. We need to change some spark plugs.
Well said.
John: I agree with you, construction jobs are not in the great recession but in a great depression. And until construction gets going again, the economy is stalled and no amount of stimulus money or increase in taxes or increase in manufacturing is going to help.
good post mygirl.besides obama is worse do you have a reason to vote for romney or will you concede we are looking at both sides of the same coin.heads the rich win tails the middle class looses
old bev had the only interetsing line that I have read from her in a very, very long time...
She must never have heard (or understood) the line...
Its the economy stupid!
Bev in lala land:
The only meeting which was held to bring down America was the Bilderberg Group meeting Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton "secretly" went to in Virginia while the media was on the plane heading for Mr. Obama's next campaign stop.
And just after the meeting, Mrs. Clinton quickly exited the Presidential race after she was told she would be selected as the Secretary of State and given the opportunity to run for President in 2016.
Time to go to your local Social Welfare store and get the remaining Obama Bucks which are quickly running out.
Someone from Chicago that thinks Obama is our savior? How unusual.
It's funny that MSNBC makes not mention of:
Karl Rove: If Election Were Held Today, Obama Would Win
http://www.westernjournalism.com/karl-roves-electoral-map-if-election-were-held-today-obama-would-win/
I know it's very early, but that is a helluva lead!! In addition, MSNBC also makes no mention of the GOP's obstruction of EVERY one of Obama's move to speed up the recovery!
Think about it: The country's financial system and economy was on the verge of collapse. The housing market DID collapse. The country was hemorrhaging jobs, people lost everything in the stock market collapse! With nation in crisis, all the Republicans could think of was screwing new president and the country! They were NOT concerned with helping the economy, or unemployment, or creating jobs, returning the country to some stability!! NO!!! They were most concerned about making Obama a 1 term president even BEFORE the inauguration. All Hail the moneyed and corporate elite!! To HELL with Joe America!!! IS there anyone who will deny that is unpatriotic???
tom our country needs help and so do you
Keep spiking the football, clueless libs.
Karl Rove said Obama is ahead now, but November is another matter.
Keep 2 things in mind with these polls: registered voters vs likely voters.
And, undecideds almost always break against the incumbent.
Mccain said that they will be behind him and we know what happen with that.
What I find amazing is, the Republicans decided, as a part of their post- Bush agenda, to make enemies of teachers, firefighters, cops and other unionized workers - overlooking, apparently, the word ORGANIZED, in organized labor. Talk about a group of "likely voters," these folks traditionally provide rides and staff phone banks during elections! Unions VOTE!
"These folks" , meaning unionized public sector employees, are not all radical leftists like their crooked union bosses.
The 'enemy' of the public employee is often the union itself.
Why should a public employee have to give his or her hardearned money to radical leftists who spend it on political causes the teacher doesnt agree with?
Just when I think that the Republican base can't get any dumber, they go and surprise us again.
Nice to see you today, Bob! Tell me, are you actually going to read before you post today after yesterday's gem?
After all, you're the guy who responded to a story about repairs being done to the Supreme Court building with...
Talk about clueless!
Republican Job Creation plan
Destroy America by keeping millions out of work to put one man's job (President Obama) out of work. Crazzzzy!!!!!
There are those who choose to place the blame for high unemployment on Mr. Obama's shoulders, but keep in mind that it's the House that enacts legislation and controls the governmental purse-strings, not the President.
The Stimulus package passed by the Democrats in 2009 helped the economy but would have been more effective if the GOP hadn't limited it to little more than a package of more useless tax breaks for the rich.
http://republicanjobcreation.com/
Beverly - I don't think you ever looked at the 2009 so-called stimulus that was passed by a Democratic controlled House and Senate and signed by President Obama. Republicans opposed that bill. There were no tax cuts for the "rich" in it. The bill bailed out state and local governments, provided funding for infrastructure projects, and some limited tax cuts for low income workers. The problem with the bill was that with the exception of the infrastructure projects, there was nothing that would spur economic growth. That is why the results were so bad.
"These folks" , meaning unionized public sector employees, are not all radical leftists
After the way right-wing politicians have gone after the salaries and benefits of teachers, cops and firefighters....they are now!
Oh, Bob in Virginia, hate to break it to you, but it is A FACT that President Obama already has 247 delegate votes from states that already had primaries! He only needs 23 more to get the necessary delegates to win. Also, a fact, the swing states that are left comprise 100 delegates total. So, even if the President only won one more state (if it had more than 23 delegates) he would win the election! On the other hand, Willard presently only has 197 delegates, so he needs 73 more delegates to win. That woud mean he have to carry most of the 8 states up for grabs. . . and from the polls, they aren't in his favor and I doubt they will be by November! I heard President O already has 3 of them "in his backpocket"! Of course, we also go by the popular vote and President O wins over Willard "hands down"! I recent poll put the President at 83% compared to Willard's like 36%!! The only poll he beats President O at all is among old men! Women, hispanics, blacks, indepedents all favor the President! And I am one white, senior woman who does! Obama 2012
It's a cinch that almost all of those 600,000 public employees, fire, police and teachers who were put out of work by Koch governors will vote straight Democratic. So will most of their brothers and sisters still on the job, and so will many of their families and friends. So will Latinos. So will women. We could still see Romney looking at a landslide coming to bury his chance at the top slot. It may not even be close.
Umm, Sharon, those are the PRIMARIES. They decide who gets to be on the ACTUAL ballot for the Reps and the Dems. Obama won against OTHER DEMOCRATS for the right to be the DEMOCRAT on the ACTUAL BALLOT, so that he could THEN run against the Republican candidate and any third party candidates that get on the ballot.
No actual elections have been held yet. Obama hasn't won a single state yet. No delegates are pledged to him in the Electoral College yet. They won't be, for anyone, at all, until November.
Too bad they failed at obstructing Obamacare. Could have saved us a bundle.
Any of you who disagree with my post are more than welcome to refute me...... using verfiable facts of course! But Karl Rove saying, at this point in the game, that President Obama is in the diver's seat is very telling! Of course, he could be trying to rally the GOP base, many of whom are going to stay home rather than vote for "the cultist".
Here comes Romney flip flopping down the bunny trail, hip pity hopping jumping up and down like a clown, put a tin hat on Mitt !
"The 'enemy' of the public employee is often the union itself."
Sure Bob in VA --- it was teachers, firemen, nurses, policemen, public employees, auto workers, and those people at Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS who crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in TARP money, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes!!
the worst thing that can happen to the president is if he got a mccain endorsement.if i was romney id tell him to keep it to himself
Thanks Amy I almost forgot how Clinton signed NAFTA into law after our Union dumped money into his campaign and telling us he would be a new shining light of goodness for us.
Between NAFTA and Bank deregulation he screwed the world not just the US. He even stated in an interview at the beginning of the meltdown that "if these policies were dangerous they would have affected the entire world and not just the US." Maybe I missed that last for years of Hope and Change. Perhaps I should organize so I can be told how its good to take pay cuts and lose benefits like my wifes union suggests.
Hey Smith,
Should we just call it now for Obama and not even bother voting in November? Hilarious isn't it?
Ha ha....finally - a string of cloud-minded Liberals patting themselves and acting like they own the thread. Good Luck won't even help Obama...he's sunk himself with wasteful spending and NO results....lol
cheers
What amyB and others fail to realize when they talk about how obamas 2009 stimulas saved all those teacher and protective service jobs is that every government paid employee/contractor's sole support is based on revenue raised by taxing the private sector.
IE a prosperus private sector is what sustains government employment, not the other way around.
Obama needed to focus on the private sector not on stroking government employees for future votes.
Bob in Vaginal Probe Virginia-you are suprisingly correct. I am the father of a teacher who was not happy with being in the union and did not support everything they do. Then FAILED GOVERNOR SCOTT WALKER OF WISCONSIN attacked teachers and changed my daughter's view. She is now an outspoken supporter of President Obama and against all Tea Party candidates. She is married to an attorney and they are very successfull. Thank you Gov. Walker-you returned my daughter to the left side.
can this country elect this dumb ass again probably god help us
honestly, the first time I read your comment, I thought it said "bad ass." Yup! Obama is one bad ass President.
He is a bad ass president fixing all of those errors of the GOP.
No, Jockland, if the GOP gets control , everyone but the very wealthy will be doomed! Obama 2012
Who but Obama cronies are doing well now? Obama has paid out billions in crony capitalism, but no one else in this country has anything to show for his presidency. Anyone But Obama 2012
I'm a liberal cuz I want our country to be more like France...
If you, Jockland cannot see the shady, lying methods Republicans are using to win the election, then I suggest you go sleep it off until 2016. MAKE OBAMA A ONE TERM PRESIDENT from the day he was inaugurated rather than work with us for the betterment of the country is absoluitely disgusting or worse. I find it amazing the President Obama has completed many many objectives he sat out to do in his campaign in spite of having to battle the GOP on every one of them. He has the putzbah to outsmart them in 2012 also. So take your extended nap and set your alarm for 2016.
I don't believe they even have a chance in 2016. After years of Boehner, McConnell, Ryan, Beck, and Limbaugh, the sleeping giant has been awakened and Democracy will prevail.
People have had enough of 30+ years of supply-side, trickle-down economic policies and right wing extremism from the Republican Party.
"It may end up being the case that voters in just enough states feel things are improving -- even if the recovery lags elsewhere -- that the president is able to win a second term."
Pathetic that the President will try for reelection piggybacking and bragging on the improving economy in states led by successful GOP Governors like Bob McDonnell..As opposed to liberal policies leading to disasters in states like Illinois and California.
Speaking of disasters, asking the failed former Michigan Governor moonbat Jennifer Granholm why Michigan is in dire straights, is like asking Bill Buckner why the Red Sox lost the '86 Series..
“Michigan could not stand another kick in the gut after the decade we’ve been through,” she said.
Governor Granholm, your horrible stewardship WAS "the kick in the gut" which Michigan is recovering from!
Yea! So when the economy is good in a state, it's the governor's doing. But when the economy is bad in a state, it's Obama's doing! *sarcasm*
Fact is, states controlled by the GOP have recovered their unemployment rate twice as fast on average!
Facts- the enemy of moonbats.
Bob, you keep touting Virginia's success, but don't forget that Virginia receives $1.66 in federal spending for every dollar of tax burden. California and Illinois receive $0.79 and $0.73. That's the wealth redistribution that you conservatives despise so much...and your state is one of the biggest recipients!
http://www-958.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/manyeyes/datasets/federal-tax-burdens-and-expenditur/versions/1
Really? State sources of these 'facts'.
Also, explain what Ursula said.
Ohio’s jobs are recovering however when asked if credit was due to Federal programs, Gov. John Kasich said that he isn’t going to take credit because it only matters that Ohioans are getting back to work.
It is just political talk for “I won’t give credit to the Obama administration” because John never misses any opportunity to pat himself on the back.
Well Bob is appears Ruken can't see the meaning of your post. *no sarcasm* But sadly it is not worth trying to explain it to him either. Remember, it is not that liberals are ignorant, it is just that they know so much that isn't so.
Maine is the only New England state that hasn't seen an improvement inour unemployment rate.
So much for focusing like a laser on job creation, our Tea Party governor got distracted capping workmen's comp benefits for severely injured workers (the bills wording, not mine) at ten years, cutting thousands of people from Medicaid, insulting public workers, repealing the right of egg farm workers to unionize, and all those other right-wing priorities that take precidence over jobs!
Bob should share the link that proves his statement.
Typical liberal response... HAHAHA!
When they don't know what to say they simply cry out for 'SOURCES'!
LOL!
And yes, Ruken... you said earlier that you were an independent but you really are a far left liberal. Every post you make proves that fact!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Really? It's wrong to ask for a source for an assertion?
BTW: I'm actually mostly politically conservative, although socially liberal. The reason I won't be voting GOP this time is because the party went off the deep end.
What?!? You mean a person has to affiliate themselves entirely with one party?!?!?
But, if posters like you are defined as 'true' conservatives, by all means call me liberal; because it would be a compliment.
There goes Amy spouting off about Maine for which she ignores reality. It took the Democrats over 40 years of control in the Maine state legislature to make it a jobless welfare state with a stagnant aging population. So for Amy to suggest a governor with one year on the job should have that mess fixed is pretty ignorant.
But watching the State of Maine without liberal rose colored glasses anyone would have to admit he is working on the problems he was handed. Maine can make him a one term governor if he fails, just like Obama deserves to be a one term president for his failure.
Bob in Virginia-5210392
Fact is, states controlled by the GOP have recovered their unemployment rate twice as fast on average!
Facts- the enemy of moonbats
Links please!
Watch out! Apparently asking people to prove their 'facts' is taboo.
Bob most likely got his information from Rush the pig show.
Maine can make him a one term governor if he fails
LePage is upside down in approval ratings a little over a year since his inauguration. 41% approve, 53% disapprove.
Obama's approval rating in Maine is 55%.
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_ME_0307.pdf
Maine has always been a rural backwater in New England, so its not surprising they've not recovered economically. We in Massachusetts are pleased Maine is no longer part of our state.
Interesting paragraph from the article:
"Nevada has the worst unemployment rate in the country, North Carolina checks in at 47th, and Florida ranks 43rd, according to preliminary data through March on record with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. "
These states all have Republican Govenors...
The GOP/Tea Baggers are all empty suits !
H e y B o b . . . . . I got this from Politifact (March 2012):
"The fact that seven of the 10 states with the lowest unemployment rates are led by Republicans is hardly evidence that GOP governors trump Democrats in creating jobs. Three of those seven states, including Virginia, were also in the Top 10 when they were were headed by Democrats a year or two ago.
We rate the claim Half True."
Governor Granholm, your horrible stewardship WAS "the kick in the gut" which Michigan is recovering from!
Hey Bob -- Michigan is non much better shape not because of the Republican governor but because GM is doing well. The voters in Michigan won't forget who was against the bailout for GM.
Hey Dennis in Columbus --- I see the Republicans had to bring back Bob Bennett (he's a relative of mine) as Republican state chairman to fix the Kasich/DeWine/teatard battles. He bailed them out in the late 80s and early 90s so I guess they hope he can do it again. The only problem is he's one of the few Republicans left with a brain and brains are frowned upon in the 21st century Republican Party.
lmao Jeff Amy is in Portland real Mainers still consider that Massachusetts. They call them Ma.ssholes!
well, the MEDIA IS PAID FOR CORPORATISTS.
the media always is trying to convince us to stay at home and no cast our votes.
PERMANENT TAX BREAK FOR THE RICH ( eventough "the job creators" hasn't createad enought ), lets be honest, the bush tax breaks have been untouch for OVER A DECADE AND UNEMPLOYMENT STILL HIGH.
More "STEAL AT BROAD LIGHT" - vulture capitalism on SOCIAL SECURITY eventough WE HAVE PAID FOR.
More WARMONGERING ' I'll bomb the hech out of IRAN " eventough WE NOT HAVE ENOUGH MOREY.
Who mnnbc-author of the article think they are goiing to fool ?
wish the media would stick to the news and not be in the fortune telling business. i'm sick of it.
Bobby boy in Virginia, Fact is, states controlled by the GOP have recovered their unemployment rate twice as fast on average!
Bob come to 80% Republican Idaho, I think you got a REAL BIG PROBLEM with that Statement. Also your Economic plans and theory are going up in smoke. lol, lol, lol of course there are a lot of $8.00 an hour jobs, that the retired people are scooping up. Thats you future Bobby $8.00 an hour --live on that!!! lol, lol, lol
if the gop hadnt been elected in the mid term with such vast numbers this country would be in even deeper do do than it is
GOP Congressionals pledged and bragged to the Press, that they'd block the President's attempts to recover from the Bush Great Recession. It started on the evening of the Inauguration of the 44th President in January 2009 at a GOP senior dinner meeting.
The GOP in the Senate filibustered at 3 times the pace ever seen in American history, blocked all the Jobs bills and refused even to bring them up for debate - after running on "Jobs, jobs, jobs".
Republican Governors elected in 2010 have fired 600,000 public sector employees including police, teachers and firefighters. Got kids, neighbors?
Without these massive firings, our unemployment numbers would be 2 points higher. You know that GOP/Koch did it deliberately.
And Romney has the nerve to say "We're not stupid". No, WE are NOT stupid. But he and his buddies are way stupid if he thinks we ain't noticed them trashing the economy & the middle class for the last three and a half years...make that 30 years.
jock: LOL...thanks for the laugh. There is major buyer's remorse by voters for letting the Tea Party take over GOP.
And just what exactly has the GOP done for America since they took over the House....NOTHING. Remember their top priority was to make President Obama a one term president NOT JOBS. So they needed to keep the economy bad, they needed to keep people unemployed....they needed to obstruct recovery.
Remember Boehner saying "if jobs are lost, so be it".
America and Americans are on the slow but sure road to recovery despite GOP.....and they are failing in thier top priority....President Obama will be re-elected.
Dragon... you are wrong!
They did EXACTLY what we voted them into office to do. STOP THE INSANE SPENDING THAT THE LEFT WAS BOMBARDING US WITH!
Run-a-muck deficit spending and extravagant give-away programs were somewhat brought under control.
NO... they did exactly what WE wanted!
There are so many contributing factors as to why this country fell into a recession, and not the least of which was Bill Clinton signing NAFTA. Although it took years to start having a negative affect on the country, NAFTA has cost the US millions of jobs that are now gone forever. With fewer jobs and fewer people paying taxes revenues dropped and deficits grew.
But also contributing was the Dotcom bubble bursting, 9/11, housing market, derivatives, and the list goes on. Sure the Bush spending spree contributed but it was hardly the root cause. If overspending was the root cause Obama would have this country in a deep depression for the amount he has wasted. Pretty stupid to suggest spending caused the problem, so to fix it we need even more spending.
But I wouldn't expect liberals to do anything but blame Bush, since that is what has worked for the president and perception seems to trump reality these days. The historians will look at the whole situation with a tad more honesty then liberals do, and there will be more then enough blame to go around.
sick; Then why is the debt continuing to rise.....hmmm...GOP must not be doing their job....oh wait, they are SPENDING...so the rising debt is their fault according to you.
It is funny watching Repubs flip-flop.....anything good happens it is because GOP controls the House, anything bad happens it is because of Dems and President Obama....can't have it both ways....LOL!
Rick,
Yes Clinton signed it but it was started by Reagan and negotiated by GHW Bush.
History reflects: “U.S. President George H. W. Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Mexican President Carlos Salinas, each responsible for spearheading and promoting the agreement, ceremonially signed it on December 17, 1992.” And “Before the negotiations were finalized, Bill Clinton came into office in the U.S. and Kim Campbell in Canada, and before the agreement became law, Jean Chrétien had taken office in Canada.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Free_Trade_Agreement
Dennis spin it however you like. But Democratic president Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law. That single agreement ushered in the greatest exodus of jobs from this country in history. Millions of jobs have left as a result.
Plenty of bills have been signed by presidents that came from the opposite party. Case in point would be two years worth of spending bills signed by Bush that came to him from the Democrat controlled House and Senate. Those two years were the largest annual deficits of the Bush years.
So spin when the truth hurts your party, it is the liberal way.
Not a spin just a fact ... it was Reagan's idea !!!
I've not met any conservative with buyers remorse over the 2010 election and never will. We want more in 2012.
How come the Tea Party doesn't exist any longer?
Dennis - WHO implemented it?
Dennis spin it however you like. But Democratic president Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law.
And in Congress more Republicans voted for it than Democrats.
Clotho
If the TEA Party doesn't exist don't blame them for anything that happens this year.
The amoebas of the Tea party elected in 2010 need to exit in 2012. They have showed an inability to understand how government works and an unwillingness to try to learn. Not all experiments succeed.
Obama's 2012 slogan:
"Hype and Blame 2012"
It is the most accurate aspect to obama's campaign.
Try a different Faux Entertainment source.
Same or similar fabrications, but at least you'll get a different lying mugster to look at.
Is that really all you can think of? Whenever a Liberal says "You watch Fox news", that basically means they can't come up with anything better to say. Pennsylvania has a good chance of becoming Republican. I've known some Democrats around my neighborhood, but they are not even sure who to vote for. Also, a lot of senior citizens are deciding to vote. My dad's retirement home is a conservative house.
random when i say you watch news what im saying is you cant think for yourself.that you may be weak minded or just indoctrinated.if your rich i can certainly understand your support of fox news.you mention alot of seniors in your household.aren't they concerned by the tax cuts for the rich their social security fund is being asked to cover.the continued exporting of good paying jobs with free trade is also lowering the amount the social security admin is getting in taxes
So do you watch msn/CNN? If you do, it's just like the liberal version of Fox. Also, a lot of middle class citizens watch Fox news. Senior citizens have lived through life and they know what happens when you do certain things. They know we have a spending problem, not a taxing problem.
HBO announced a new show for 2012--JEFFERSONS EVICTED 2012. BTW it will be hosted by Bill Maher.
random i disagree.giving the rich a tax cut has cause civil strife, job loss and a growing disparity between the rich and everyone else.the fact that your older relatives have lived a long time is going to be scant solace when their social security checks come up short.that day is coming fast.if there was a third party candidate pushing a tax increase on the rich he would beat both these guys
Obama / Binladen 2012
"..the economy is "what's keeping Romney in the ballgame."
Did the Obama poodles at MSNBC really say something that stupid?
The economy IS THE BALLGAME....and Obama is losing.
What would Romney do as President?
What would Romney do as President? Well certainly no worse then Obama.
Besides from the same 'ole "trickle down" bullsh*t that we all know doesn't work?
President Romeny would: Stop all abortions, including Rape and Incest (great for the gene pool). Rid the country of all contraception. Continue financing the Rich to create Phantom jobs. Start wars with N. Korea and Iran. End Social security and medicare as we know it. Increase the national debt including raising the debt ceiling. Eliminate manufacturing jobs in America. Continue to lower education standard (fire teachers). Deregulate Wall Street and banks. Continue financing the rich to create Phantom Jobs( not a repeat). Continue to insist that Government know better than your doctor how to treat you. I need a break
He has already told us he would reduce the top tax rate to 25%, add 100,000 more troops, and has embraced the Ryan budget as being 'marvelous'. Cut food stamps, women's preventative health care from Medicare and transfer as many safety net programs to the states as possible - without funding them.
Can't wait for the debates to begin!
Most of what you said is typical Democrat scare tactics. The last sentence is most shocking though. The Democrats are the ones who want government involved in your medical care.
Yea, but somehow the GOP members of Congress love their government health-care.
We are one of the last industrialized nations on the planet to not have a national heath-care system.
So do the Democrats. I think we can all agree that voters on the left and right are against their high salaries and generous benefits.
We are the last best hope on earth. Our healthcare is far superior to Canada's if you have a major health problem. I have family in Canada so there is no use trying to convince me otherwise. The delays in treatment are inhumane in my opinion.

That is why the results were so bad
Not true; it was the vast right wing conspiracy.

That's all very interesting, but they weren't responsible for passing the 2009 Stimulus bill, and it did not contain any tax cuts for the "rich" as you stated. That legislation was an entirely Democratic measure.
N Loves, what have the democrates done to regulate how your doctor treats you. Don't go back to the health care act as there is nothing there that tells a doctor what to say or what treatment you must receive so what else you got. and for scare tactics Romney is the one that stated those very points, No abortions even for rape and incest, life begins at conception, eliminate contraception, GOP platform is to deregulate wall street and banks as well as industrial base. Its on tape sweety you just need to look for it.
Thank God I only have 6 more unemployment reports to get thru before I am booted out of office! I love it that you moron's have my back that 15 republicans started to bring down my administration right on January 20th! And here I thought I had the world by the short hairs! I was the crowned champion, I was given a majority senate and a majority house! I had 2 years to do what I wanted, and lo and behold I had no idea that 15 Republicans held me hostage! They made me do all that stimulus that failed to IGNITE the economy! It did little if anything! I thought it was all my responsibility for getting us where we are at today! Damn, if I had known that 15 little republicans had so much power I never would have run! It's amazing that the economy has shownm more recovery since Jan of 2011 when we lost the house majority than before..... Im so confused. Can't wait for November!
Romney's solutions to fix the economy are the same as what crashed it in the first place -- tax cuts for the richest of the rich and deregulation. Voting for Republicans to grow this economy makes about as much sense as smoking to cure lung cancer.
Charlie, when are you Liberals going to learn that we have a spending problem, not a taxing problem? Even if we taxed the rich for 80% of their money (which will never happen), we still won't be able to get out of our debt. Liberals remind me of a teenage girl in the shopping mall with unlimited access to their daddy's credit card. When our debt reaches a certain point, our government will collapse. It happened to Germany and it's going to happen to us if Obama gets elected for another term.
germanys rich learned a valuable lesson about going to far with the hording.their unemployment is about 6 percent.they have a 19 percent tariff protecting their workers from having their jobs outsourced.while our middle class is circling the drain with free trade.
According to some Germans I talked to recently for a summit, they also don't follow the same "rack up the debt" policies we do... at least on the individual level. They spend intelligently, not excessively. (Unless they were putting on a good show for me, of course.)
I'm not talking about modern day Germany, I'm talking about the 1930's Germany. They got so much in debt, their government collapsed. Then the National Socialist Party (Nazis) and the Communist Party fought for control of Germany. The Nazi's won and Hitler came into power. If we keep racking up our debt, our government will collapse and most likely a dictator will rise to power.
if a dictator means we stop being the worlds police, that our elderly are cared for and that we have good paying jobs.bring him on.its not like we will lose much.we arent represented in congress, the presidency or the courts
"Charlie, when are you Liberals going to learn that we have a spending problem, not a taxing problem? "
When are you going to learn that the same policies that crashed the economy won't fix the economy?? Bush inherited a balanced budget. He cut taxes and almost immediately turned a surplus into a deficit. You pay down the deficit by GROWING the economy – they way Truman, Eisenhower, JFK and Clinton did it. None of those presidents cut spending, they increases spending. In 1945 the deficit was 125% of GDP. By the time Reagan took office it was down to less than 38% of GDP. Then we went on this insane idea of supply side economics – the idea that the economy is driven by those at the top rather than the middle class. With the exception of the Clinton years, deficits have been increasing ever since.
Look at Great Briton. Their conservative government is on an austerity kick. They've cut spending. Now – they’re back into a recession.
Charlie, the debt to GDP ratio when Obama took over was 77% and now it is 101% (by the end of 2012). If his policies continue, it will approach the 130% in 2016 and like PIGS, we will lose our credit rating.
America and Americans are on the slow but sure road to recovery despite GOP.....and they are failing in thier top priority....President Obama will be re-elected
...
Do you realize how many House bills are sitting in the Senate, without the Dems even allowing a vote or debate to be held on them? The House has been BUSY, both Reps and Dems, but the Dems in the Senate have decided that 'the Party of No' sounded like a good idea.
C. Smith, yes and everone of them was past by republicans only, and all contain the same point. Tax cuts for job creators for which we are so thankful for otherwise we might have high unemployment. And remember they are even holding the Presidents budget the same way what a bunch of party line morons right.
Do you realize that sitting on those bills is the only bargaining chip Reid has to hold off even more fillibusters by the Republicans.?
Do you realize how many House bills are sitting in the Senate, without the Dems even allowing a vote or debate to be held on them?
Do you realize how many bills the Republicans have filibustered in the last 3 years?
Major National buyers remorse for electing a President that sold us to a party instead of leading the Nation
So am I supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money or what Obama has been doing with mine?
Check out kingofbain.com-that shows you what mitt thinks of American workers.
I read these posts frequently; however, I rarely comment. I think the writers of limited ability writing on this board will destroy our country because they vote the party line. I'm thoroughly convinced that this once great country is doomed. Forty four cents of every dollar spent by the federal government is borrowed. We can't keep spending money that we don't have. We can't spend our way out of a recession.
History has always been our greatest teacher and yet we continue to ignore it.
And we still keep sending billions to foreign countries, even those who are against America, and spending billions on wars and DOD....
Until those two areas, which seem to be untouchable by both parties, are reined in, we can not control the debt and we can't stop borrowing.
Bush Tax Cuts and Wars are the two biggest contributors to debt atm.
Actually, the Bush Tax Cuts and Wars are pennies on the dollar. The two biggest contributors to America's debt at the moment, and for the past several decades, are the Military (basic spending, the wars have been small change on top of that) and the various social programs instituted by the Left.
That's right, BOTH PARTIES got us into this mess, and they started it years ago. Bush and Obama, and their respective congresses, were only the latest fools to fill the office.
Smithy are you forgetting the budget surplus in 2000 which meant any previous debt was gone. Small detail I know but hey its a fresh starting point, 2001 we have a budget surplus 2008 we have an invisible debt, so sorry forgot to put those pesky wars and drug programs into the buget my bad.
C. Smith, you might not be old enough to remember Sen. Everett Dirkson, but he was the one who said, "A billion here and a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money."
As for Iraq and Afghanistan being small potatoes, try $3.2 trillion! Now that's some REAL money!
Bruce that does not figure in the Bush tax cuts also unfunded.
Actually, we DO spend our way out of recessions. We've done it every economic downturn since the Great Depression. It's basic Keynes economics, which I don't have time to get into in great detail here. You can certainly read about it on your own.
In short: Cutting the budget and reducing the size of government at the same time the private sector is shrinking, results in an extreme economic disaster, since nobody is spending money. One of the main reasons we cannot return to a gold standard, is because of the need to deficit spend during economic downturns.
Ironically, recessions are when people are most upset about government spending, which is when it's most needed. Reducing spending is a luxury that can be exercised once the private sector has recovered and can support itself. I hope Obama gets a second term, so he can actually have a few years that are not plagued by inherited wars and extreme recession.
Actually, we DO spend our way out of recessions. We've done it every economic downturn since the Great Depression.
Bingo!! That's exactly how you get out of a recession. In Europe the nations who have decided to take on austerity measures such as the United Kingdom and Spain are now seeing a double dip recession.
It's true, you can spend out of a recession, if you hold to the whole Keynesian economics. That's why the massive infrastructure projects worked during the Great Depression. Excessive saving may be good for emergencies, but it doesn't help the economy... it stagnates. (Unless, say, the banks that are holding that money can make a mess of investments into small businesses.) It makes some logical sense. Sure. The only problem, though, is that it's not sustainable. The only way that Keynesian economics could work in the long term is if you can start paying off the accumulated debt during the good years... or have a year of jubilee. Unfortunately, due to wars initiated by the GOP or the rampant, unchecked spending of the left, both parties don't quite get this. That's why the same policy that might have worked with the Great Depression (and I'm over-simplifying, of course) would not necessarily work again... because now we have a massive debt.
In my opinion, Keynesian economics is a good way to soften the blow of a recession, or give a little "booster" to economic growth if we have a surplus. But it doesn't make for a good "blanket" policy and, in fact, the theory is frequently abused to distract from a lack of fiscal responsibility in Washington. Don't be fooled; both parties suck. It's going to take a massive culture and attitude shift to turn things around.
Noryc: few economist or historians believe the spending of FDR brought us out of the Depression - most agree that it was WWII and the MASS upswing in the American manufacturing machine that propelled us outta the mess - if spending on state-sponsored projects worked the USSR would've been the economic superpower and not a bankrupt cess pool.
Regarding savings: China has the highest rate of personal savings at about 45% and they seem to be doing fine!!!!!
Strike 2 on the Sal Alinsky economics...
Tis the Season. Uh...what? Started off with no debt after 2000? It's a budget. Not a debt. We still had a rather large amount of debt. And even though we had a surplus, it was not used to pay off the debt. Probably for good reason because the debt is held in bonds so the money would have to be set up in a fund for helping to pay off the debt and no doubt with the word surplus shining in their dollar-sign eyes, some politician would swaggered their way in their and robbed it blind to spend "on the public"...basically whichever special-interest group pays nicer.
Keynesian economics can work. But, as previously mentioned, it was manufacturing and infrastructure improvement that pulled us out of the depression. Manufacturing is near dead in America compared to what we were back in the WWII era. With the stimulus package, we have a lot of money set aside to improve the infrastructure. Good news. You would think that would be good for the economy. Except that many of those infrastructure jobs are being gotten by foreign firms because they will work for significantly less in most cases.
Secondly, what Obummer is doing is not even true Keynesian, another reason he is failing. He is clinging so desperately at class warfare (Heard him called a Communist? Look at how the Communists took control of Russia truly. Spooky coincidences at how today's society is too...) and saying the wealthy should "pay their fair share" (even though the top 1% pay 40% of our tax bill, and 49% of the nation pay 0%) even though it's projected that increasing the taxes on the wealthy will only bring in 5 billion annually. Big whoop. For the economy to pick up steam, under Keynesian, you keep with the spending, but DECREASE taxes. Which Obummer hasn't done. The payroll tax cut is a failure so don't even bother, massively decreased the funding for SS. And keeping the Bush tax cuts doesn't count either. They were already in place. He is practicing a sort of Keynesian Lite, and it is decidedly failing.
That being said, I'm decidedly against it. I think we need to decrease government spending. The private sector will pick it up, as it always has, proven economically and historically. We don't need these huge debts and injections of money into the economy by the government. We are no longer an exporting economy, we are quite the opposite, a massive importer. We have a weak and feeble manufacturing sector now compared to before. We can't sustain this because it is massively devaluing our dollar (which would be moderately acceptable if we were an exporting economy, like Japan, whose Yen is 1/80th of our dollar currently...but we simply aren't). There, my rant is done.
It is interesting how progressive our current tax code is. The top 1% earns ~ 23% of the income and pays 40% of the taxes. That is more then their share of income. The top 10% earns 47.1% of income and pays 70% of taxes. That would suggest that the rich actually are overtaxed.
.
Amid all of the economic turmoil and angst being suffered by so many Americans, it is truly good news that there are some among us who are doing quite well - and are not bashful about showing just how well they are doing. As for relating to the not-doing-so well crowd, however, not so much.
http://wallstreeit.blogspot.com/2012/05/ann-romney-bird-shirt.html
The presumptive Republican nominee for President and his wife appeared Monday on the CBS "Morning Show" - she was the one wearing the $990 shirt.
As opposed to Obama, who's family is so poor they have to take vacations on taxpayer dollars?
Yes, Romney is rich, but so has every other presidential candidate to even run for years and years and years. Face it, hating the rich means hating ALL politicians of EVERY stripe.
So has every President before him whats your point. Hating politicians again what your point been a national past time for generations.
C. Smith, I don't hate anyone - wealthy or poor. I hate, if that's the right word, the sanctimonious among us who say we need to cut food stamps and health programs for women and children while spending so lavishing as to constitute gluttony - one of the seven deadly sins!
$990 for a t-shirt is obscene!
When any member of a President's immediate family travel, the costs will be enormous, regardless of the political party of those traveling. The family must be protected from the crazies out there just as much as the President himself.
I'm going to call a big "who cares" on this one. I'm not a Romney fan, but really, is this a material story? The Romneys are worth a quarter-billion dollars. If Mrs. Romney wants to buy a thousand dollar shirt, who cares? We seem to be getting way too obsessed with every little detail that might be seen as "sending the wrong message". There is nothing wrong with being rich and spending money; her expensive shirt doesn't send a message that she's out of touch (of course, the Romneys do a lot of other things that do show how out of touch they are.)
The same way I didn't like Sarah Palin, but I thought attacking her for having an expensive wardrobe was just ridiculous. It also supports the false belief that Americans hate rich people. They don't hate the rich, they just want them to be willing to help us recover the economy and pay their fair share.
If they're rich and want to buy things, that's fine. Let's try to encourage the news to report actual policy stories, instead of the news equivalent of Facebook status updates.
As opposed to Obama, who's family is so poor they have to take vacations on taxpayer dollars?
Ya know Smith -- that statement is almost as stupid as the TelePrompter garbage you cons toss out. Every president takes vacations on the tax payer's dime and George W. Bush top the list.
Well, admittedly, the Obama's have taken a lot of vacations, sometimes at really bad times... but he does have two young daughters. Family bonding? Always good. Still, Obama might be going a little overboard... it's one of the sacrifices of the job.
I do have to agree with Clotho, though. Really, why does it matter? Yes, the Romney's are rich. Good for them. Is it wrong for them to buy nice things? Or do they still have to go to Wal-Mart like everyone else? How they spend their private earnings is up to them (so long as it's not illegal). Honestly, criticizing opponents for their clothing choice seems kinda... desperate.
Last night Chris Matthews had to explain to Meghan McCain the difference in being "rich" and being "really rich". She wasn't buying Matthew's rant that the Romney family doesn't relate to average Americans. Meghan told Matthews that the Obamas are "rich, too". Matthews then told her there is a difference - the Obamas have about $10 million compared to the Romney family with sons (5) having $100 million trust funds, money hidden in Swiss banks and Cayman Islands, etc. and are worth billions.
More left wing misinformation - the Romney's aren't billionaires and regardless of what you think of his business practices he has done nothing unethical or illegal...now, on the otherhand the Chicago community organizer bought a multimillion dollar home before he had a real income...go figure...but not a single news organization has looked any deeper into that fiasco.
MG from IL: OMG and you actually believe anything Chris Matthews says. As far as I'm concerned whether you have $10 mil or $200 mil you are still rich. Rich is Rich. Think about the list of the billionaires. Gates has $100 Bil and Slim has $200 Bil what's the difference. Matthews is only for entertainment, his program never has any substance.
As long as Obama keeps coming up with stupid "composite" women, like "Julia" (lifelong big govenment leech) and the girl he claimed to have dated, we have nothing to worry about.
I am more interested in hearing about the men he dated....the one who was murdered specifically. Donald Young of Chicago...choir director of Rev Wright's church.
Really N Loves, now obama is gay, you really have issues that can not be fixed here may I suggest a democratically controlled doctor I am sure he and fix you.
Hype and Blame!! Hype and Blame!!
I find it sad that after 3.5 years of a failed presidency that anyone is so ignorant as to vote for obama.
Failed in what way?
Clotho - how about this.
Failed in it's attempt at economic recovery.
A stimulus that failed miserably in it's attempt to increase jobs. In effect people are dropping out of the search and it only appears unemployment is dropping or standing still when in fact it is just as bad or worse.
Passing unconstitutional legislation(Obamacare) and ramming it down our throats.
Apologizing to terrorists who killed our troops in response to burning Korans that were destined for the trash anyway.
the list can go further, but it seemed as though you needed only 1.
Facts Republicans Hate:
TO: Jeff, Chicago who wrote:
Republican mantras, talking points, and hate speech all combined couldn't force me to vote Republican.
Now, who was it who brainwashed you to repeat repeat repeat, and lie lie lie but the Republicans?
I guess in your mind the last "successful" president Republicans ever had was George "Curveball" Bush, that's right, the one who crashed the entire United States Economy and lied us into a billion dollar war.
So when do you expect for Republicans to come out and give speeches on what THEY intend to do if they took office, like repeal the minimum wage, make it impossible for average Americans to get quality affordable health care, steal our Social Security money, and cancel our pre-paid Medicare.
You have to be a complete moron to vote in favor of Republicans giving rich folks more and more tax cuts, and American Workers more and more pay cuts.
Obama / Biden 2012
BUT WAIT. Don't you libs hate those evil corporations and their profits? Half of your list doesn't reflect that. What happened to "spreading the wealth" (code word for redistribution)
TO: Clotho who wrote:
Well, for one thing, Republicans still think they can pay bills with tax cuts.
And none of us could take the racism out of the racists.
Those might be considered "failures".
Obama/Biden 2012
Republicans don't spend willy nilly and legislate as much (Thus the so called "obstructionist" comments you libs like to tout. Some things just don't need or deserve to pass). Spend, yes. But looking at the growth in deficit and the debt ceiling over the past three and a half years I doubt the Republicans could sleep at night. Democrats can buy and spend without knowing where the money is going to come from and do so under the guise of "helping and caring for people". Education loan takeover tied to a healthcare bill? Now that is genius.
yes deficit and debt climbing out of your mess thank you very much. talk to my hand. look at your savior's governing of massachusetts record...no jobs and higher taxes.
Obama got Osama.........Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive......Turn Out in "12
Nothing surprising here. Not even the trolls.
Senor Bishop Romney is toast. Even those drinking his kool-aid knows he will loose come Nov. With the right so confused by their own lies they don't know what to believe. The majority of the right are not even going to bother voting. Ann Romney will find out it is not her turn. And the Democrat are going to take over the House and have a super majority in the Senate.
Day after election day I want to see how many right wing trolls show up on these pages.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
I say we just let the media dictate who will win the election. Because everyday it seems like they cannot make up their minds on any of this. One day we are miles better and the very next day we are worse then the previous week. Also many experts believe the bulk of this last recession was the cause and stir of the media. Once they said the word "RECESSION", the panic button was pressed everywhere. I am grateful to have been able to ride out the storm and not lose my house even though I had to switch jobs. It was all for the better because I now make more money. But yeah....but there will be some things to miss as well....gas lower than 2 dollars, cheap houses due to larger inventory, cars going for pennies on the dollars from private owners needing fast cash, etc....hell.....I just bought a 50,000 dolllar home movie projector built in 08 for 200 bucks. Previous owner of a home lost the home and the Bank did an auction on the left overs. So yeah I will miss it. But I am also welcoming a better economy because now my twice a year bonus checks will be higher.
digitalayon: Good for you, now that you have such a great job, plan on your taxes going up to paying for all the programs our President wants to give away to those who aren't doing as well as you. It's obvious you are NOT one of the 24 mil unemployed/underemployed/discouraged. But rest assured you will pay your fair share because you are doing better than alot of the rest. Good luck with that.
One short glimpse at the economic and job recovery of Democratically controlled States as opposed to Republican controlled States will tell you a BIG story about whose fault it is.
Thankfully, those Republican controlled states can't start unfunded wars.
LOL, Bo. I am in Texas. The Californians are moving here in droves for work.
Yes N loves USA all those high paying jobs right. Ok well maybe in the oil industry but beyond that Texas has the highest rate of minimum wage jobs in the country something to be proud of right. Oh how is that immigration problem in Texas doing these days.
Hilarious stuff. The unemployment numbers are still down. Even after they bumped all those who have ran out of benefits from the counts.
I work in Liberal land with many liberal attorneys. They aren't going to obumbler fundraisers this year. And even though they were none to happy anything with his "economic" policies anything with a D next to its name will get a vote. Wife beaters like liberal Geoff Simpson in Washington State could still get votes. Apparently if your a liberal in Washington you'll think its okay to slap your ex-wife around in the hospital while she is tending to your sick child and no one will care.
Anyhow obumbler got the swing vote last time. And he had many disenfranchised conservatives on his side because of the house and senate. I like John McCain okay but he just wasn't going to make it and he probably would have only been three or four times as effective as obumbler.
At the obumbler caucuses in Washington they had 10,000 local delegates. The republican party had over 50,000 local delegates come to caucuses.
The feeble mind of our current wannabe leader couldn't even model a successful healthcare plan when Romney had already demonstrated how it could be done.
Actually the only folks that weren't supporting Mitt here were obumbler, oops I mean Ron Paul supporters. If was fun to watch them stand up for deviancy and legalization of drugs for the conservative platform. It only took a few minutes to know who they really supported and why they were there. But in the 7, 8, or even 9 hour few if any conservatives left those caucuses because they weren't going to give in to one of the ideas they proposed by these nutbars. And they didn't.
I read your "rant and rage" but if what you say is true how did Pres.Obama win the election last time???? And why is Ron Paul still challenging the T-Republican elections, and is looking good as a force to be respected in the next GNOP T=Republican convention??? And why did it take so long for the T-Republican party to finally settle on Mitt (the flip/flop) Romney as their RNC party favorite??? But wait! the T-Republican party has not made that decision final yet (RNC Florida). And neither has the right-wing gay hating Evangelicals, just Ted (nut case) Nugent. Just like in 2008, the T-Republicans have divided their party inside and out with to many internal issues to be resolved in one election. This has confused many voters from all sides as to what does this T-republican party stand for, and also who is Mitt( the flip/flop) Romney???? IS Mitt (flip/flop) Romney the worst candidates to run against Pres. Obama??? RicK Sanotorium says he is. But maybe his big money puppet masters will buy him that seat in the White House as long as he realize that they will be in charge.(Bros.Koch, Rove, Trump, Bain Corp. Exc. Wall Street, Capital Gains from Foreign Investors???(China??) and so on and so on. FOR SALE CHEAP ALL LANDS AND BUSINESS INSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES AND ALL IT'S TERRITORIES) SEE: THE T-REPUBLICANS PARTY AND IT"S VULTURE CAPITALIST SOON TO BE PRESIDENT MITT(the flip/flop) ROMNEY, FOR INFORMATION ON THIS GREAT INVESTMENT DEAL, BETTER THEN THE SALE OF THE FORMER USSR AND SOON THE COUNTRIES OF EUROPE AND ASIA.
I keep wondering when Romney is going to announce that he is going to be endorsed by George Bush - that should unite the Republican Party!
I keep wondering when Romney is going to announce his economic plan.
Around the same time Barry announces his. You know "I have a plan". Yes we did it, screwed up America for the next 20 years. Thank god they have term limits on Presidents. I guess after the great socialist FDR extended the depression for 10 years somebody was smart enough to protect this country from stupid voters.
Nah, there's still enough anti-Bush sentiment hanging around that it might hurt Romney more than it would help him. Although a lot of my local friends have started pining for the early Bush years to come back. Go figure...
Romney has hinted a few plans in the works, but nothing too deviant from the typical Republican agenda. Lower taxes to stay globally competitive and encourage economic growth... cut spending... eliminate or merge useless/inefficient agencies... ya know, the usual stuff. Although I have to say I'm pleased that Republicans are getting on board with the whole "cut loopholes in the tax code" train... they may not raise taxes on the rich and corporations, but at least they're trying to make it more transparent and "fair." I call this "progess."
As for Obama's plan... well, I can't really see it; beyond the pet projects and funding for unionized industries, anyway. And since his budget was completely shot down, I guess even his own base is getting a bit anxious.
I love George Bush!!!! 3-peat!!!! I so wish he would run for Vice President!!!!
Hey Dan way to go, stand up for George he needs a fan somewhere.
I hate to dash your hopes but....he can't according to the Constitution.
Oh Dan so sorry you do not get your wish damn pesky Constitution always getting in the way
I feel a tiny bit sorry for Jeb Bush. He's a pretty decent, moderate conservative, but his name is going to hold him back for years to come.
As Obama would say, "What Constitution"
the pathological narcissist/liars goose is cooked...
END OF THE ERROR..
ABO2012
November will surprise a lot of people.
From the looks of things, about half the posters on here, no matter who wins.
Recovery from Republican policies.
I doubt people want to go back to where we were when Bush and the Republicans were running things.
the campaign will turn on obama's abysmal performance as president...obama is a liar, a distorter, and a divider....
OH paddywacker you need new material, try something original and new. I know you can do it.
Tis, as opposed to 'blame Bush'? That's been the Dem's mantra since they took over Congress.
Another fact hater, did the bush administration actively support regulations that would have prevented the houseing market from crashing, did the Bush admin start two wars and an unfunded drug program and fail to put all three on the budget to show the deficet spending they were doing. Were we loosing jobs before 2008, have we been gaining jobs since 2008. Blame goes were blame goes. Obama is not perfect and not everything works as planned but its not for a lack of trying to make it better given the roadblocks. Question what would have happened if the GOP had pasted the Obama plans and they failed vs what would have happened if they blocked all his plans and we still start recovery. Could not be due to GOP plans since the Senate has block all of them so what would be the cause.
Listening to these Republicans, one would think that on January 19, 2009 the country was in great shape with a massive surplus, record low unemployment, a booming economy, increasing wages -- everything was just outstanding. Then -- Obama took office on Jan 20, 2009 and everything immediately came crashing down.
Now -- how about a reality check? The nation was much closer to that ideal on January 19, 2001 when Clinton left office but on January 19, 2009 when Bush left office, we were on the verge of a depression.
Nno president since Kennedy had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in BETTER shape than did George W. Bush and no president since FDR had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in WORSE than did President Obama. It will take this nation a generation or longer to dig ourselves out of the economic disaster caused by George W. Bush and his Republican controlled Congress.
Charlie my boy, you are thicker than two bricks.
Funny thing is, the economy was actually chugging along pretty well for the early years of the Bush presidency... a lot of our problems surfaced when the Democrats took control of Congress. Probably a coincidence, of course. Truth be told, the recession that "started" under Bush was years in the making and both parties were responsible for contributing to the massive bubbles that any honest economist should have foreseen. And obviously the wars in the ME didn't help matters.
An irony, of course, is that once Obama took office, he continued some of those very Bush policies that people are still criticizing. As an example, remember those Bush tax cuts? Can't really call them that anymore, since Obama extended them. They're both in the same bed now, as far as I'm concerned. (Yes, I know Republicans strong-armed him into continuing all those tax cuts, but the point remains.)
Charlie: I think you are correct, and Clinton is the one who sold us out to China. Asian countries think he's a "god". And the 9/11 attacks were planned for at least 2 years during the time Clinton was president. Bush was in office only 8 months when we got hit. They didn't plan this in that 8 months.
Vote GOP,and please give a helping hand to the struggling top 2% of Americans who desperately need more tax cuts to reach their looming goal of owning 50% of all America's wealth and assets!
Just think, in 1970 the top 2% only owned 8% of all American Assets. Now they own 40%. Three GOP Administrations worth of tax cuts for job creators, over 8 Trillion in deficits which have subsidized the 2%'s accumulation of wealth. No jobs were created, only more wealth.
What are Romney/Ryan and the GOP offering America with the "Marvelous" Romney endorsed Ryan Budget plan? Exactly the same failed economic theories which Bush II used to create this economic meltdown, only now they want double tax cuts for the 2%, and across the board cuts in the Federal Budget, including the safety nets for the poor that "Romney is not concerned with", and increases in taxes for the middle and working classes. Obviously, for the now 50% of all Americans classified as living in poverty, they have some plans for cutting Federal assistance there too.
Noryc, Grancanyon and ATC: you are all right and illustrate the sad situation we are at socially.
I also wondered why the Bush tax cut were not repealed, why Al Qaeda "waited" for Bush to come in office to strike NY, and how impoverishing the lower classes of America is going to make us happier and make America stronger?
