With more endorsements by prominent Republicans and a new poll showing him leading next week’s Wisconsin primary, Mitt Romney is on the cusp of becoming the party’s presumptive nominee.
Yet it’s taken Romney far longer to win the nomination than most observers expected, especially against under-funded and under-organized competitiors.
Why?
Republicans and analysts point to several culprits: the proportional delegate system, Romney’s gaffes, his flip-flops, his message, even his Mormon faith.
But he's also been plagued this primary season by a Republican Party still in the midst of an identity crisis, which has made things rocky for the former governor (and former moderate) from Massachusetts.
First Thoughts: Romney to wrap it up?
A wave of conservative enthusiasm -- with the new “Tea Party” movement as its leading edge -- propelled Republicans to record victories in the 2010 midterm elections, which delivered them control of the House and gains in the Senate.
The new freshman class, though, demanded more purity from their leaders. The very enthusiasm that helped Republicans win back part of Congress hampered their ability to govern; House Speaker John Boehner encountered great difficulties in convincing the newly elected ideologues to join in legislative compromises.
These fratricidal squabbles continued into the presidential campaign, where conservatives have resisted, at virtually every turn until now, the opportunity to get onboard with the establishment-favored candidate who’s regarded as most electable: Romney.
“There's clearly a bit of a crisis,” said former Delaware Rep. Mike Castle, a moderate Republican who was considered a shoo-in to win his state’s Senate seat in 2010 before losing a primary to the Tea Party-backed Christine O’Donnell.
“The division and savagely attacking of other Republicans when they don't vote the right way I think is very counterproductive,” added Castle, who is supporting Romney (ironically, along with O’Donnell). “I don't think that has appealed to some Republicans, and I'm sure it doesn't appeal to independents and Democrats.”
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd previews Tuesday's Wisconsin primary and explains whether Rick Santorum will leave the GOP race if he loses.
Other reasons why Romney has been unable to gel conservatives behind his candidacy are probably more technical. Republicans cite his campaign's shoddy work in courting conservatives, the new primary rules that prolong the nominating process, and the candidate's gaffes at key points in the campaign. Romney also struggled to shake his image as a “flip-flopper” at points in the campaign, an image underscored by a senior aide’s recent comment likening the candidate’s pivot to the general election to an Etch A Sketch.
But while Romney is hardly a perfect candidate for today’s Republican Party, such a mythical creature might not exist anywhere on the planet. In some important respects, Romney's troubles stem from a party that is re-fighting its internal struggles from 2010.
“I think it's directly attributable to the spirit of 2010,” said Ken Buck, one of the Tea Party-linked Senate candidates that year, said in reference to the former Massachusetts governor’s struggles.
While the Tea Party -- a group of especially conservative activists angered by the bailouts to the financial industry and President Barack Obama’s health care law -- helped give kindling to the GOP in 2010, its insistence on ideological fealty in Republican candidates was seen as a factor that limited their success.
Republicans were successful in retaking the House but fell short of winning the necessary seats in the Senate, where Tea Party-backed nominees in Nevada, Delaware, and Colorado lost in opportunities Republicans had hoped to gain.
(Other candidates backed by the Tea Party were able to win in states like Utah, Kentucky and Florida, however.)
NBC/Marist poll: Romney leads ahead of Wisconsin primary
But the fallout hasn’t been limited to those primaries; Boehner’s struggles to win the votes of conservative freshmen elected in 2010 are well-documented. Those freshmen have pushed their leader to hew to strictly conservative positions at major junctures in the last year and a half, fueling a perception of Republicans in Congress as an intransigent lot, while weakening the speaker’s bargaining position in fights over spending cuts and the debt ceiling.
The tug of war between ideological purity and practical politics has been on display, again, during the campaign for Republicans to pick their nominee versus Obama.
Romney has long been considered the tentative frontrunner to become the GOP’s nominee, and he appears poised now to accrue the necessary delegates to accomplish that task.
But this primary has been defined, if nothing else, than by the flailing search by conservatives to identify a more palatable alternative to Romney.
While he’s stayed steady in primary voter polls, a veritable merry-go-round of challengers -- Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Gingrich again, and now, Santorum again -- have overtaken him in the polls before fading.
The National Journal's Major Garrett and Hotline's Reid Wilson join Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss.
Moreover, exit polls of the primary contests to date have borne out Romney’s struggles in winning over self-described “very conservative” primary voters -- the core of the modern Republican Party.
While Republicans of all stripes express confidence that the party will rally around the eventual nominee, the conservative wing of the party has been nothing less than dogged in its resistance to Romney.
Romney and his current main rival, Santorum, “reflect different parts of the Republican Party,” said Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, one of the GOP’s veteran political strategists, who has remained neutral in the primary fight.
“Both of them have proven remarkably tough and durable -- it's like watching a great bar room fight. That's the kind of punching match that we're in right now,” Cole said. “In a sense, Republican voters want to be assured that whoever emerges is tough enough to go toe to toe with the president.”
Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who represented the Tea Party in her presidential bid, acknowledged last week on “Morning Joe” that the Republican Party is “factionalized” at the moment.
But some Republicans argue that Romney’s struggles were essentially avoidable, and they blamed his campaign for doing a poor job of reaching out to conservatives.
Poll: Majority of GOP says Gingrich, Paul should end campaigns
A former chairman of a major state Republican Party, who is sympathetic to Romney’s candidacy and requested to speak anonymously in order to offer more candid analysis, argued that the former Massachusetts governor’s struggles were directly related to poor outreach.
“They’ve been unwilling or unable to close the deal among conservatives,” the chairman said of the Romney campaign.
“Why don’t they send someone to Grover’s meeting in D.C.?” added that person, referring to the weekly meeting of conservative activists hosted by anti-tax advocate Grover Norquist.
The suggestion was that Romney’s campaign was basically self-involved and did little to show conservatives that Romney was one of them -- an especially curious strategy given Romney’s presidential run in 2008, which was staked on running as the conservative alternative to John McCain.
“There’s no history there; they’ve never dated,” said Craig Shirley, a Reagan biographer whose public relations firm did work for the Gingrich campaign for a stretch this primary. “It’s a little hard to ask people to marry you when you haven’t courted them first.”
The Romney campaign’s strategy, though, has sought to maintain the candidate’s viability for the general election to the best of their ability. The Romney campaign has been nothing if not careful in navigating Romney through the briar patch of conservatives’ demands on the candidate.
But the primary campaign appears to have taken its toll; a Washington Post/ABC News poll released Wednesday had Romney’s unfavorable ratings at an all-time high. Romney will no doubt pivot toward the center in the general election, but he has more ground to make up than many Republicans would like.
“The question becomes: Can the eventual Republican candidate, diminished by the primary, come back and win the election,” said Castle.
But Buck, perhaps illustrating conservatives’ ambivalence toward Romney, said it would be “fascinating” to see really how competitive Romney would be versus Obama.
“The question is, which Mitt Romney?” he asked.

Branding issues? lol
The GOP circa 2012, is nothing more than a resurgence of the John Birch Society!
William F. Buckley is rolling over in his grave....
2012 - the year Republican's mainstreamed crazy...
I'm looking at Papa Bush's slacks. He needs to see a tailor.
It's hard for me to believe that today's republican party holds any interest for GHWB. I can't see how he even recognizes his party. I get angry whenever I hear the GOP call itself "the party of Abraham Lincoln." Lincoln has probably changed his party affiliation from the great beyond.
Well, FR...by the tenor of your post, it appears you and your other left wing sycophant brethren/sistren, are a just a bit uneasy these days with the direction of the campaign. With your ACA mandate on the precipice of being struck down... and along with it maybe the entire law, you are now looking at a general election scenario where the community organizer goes down in flames to the flip flopping uncle Milton. Wouldn't that be just to precious.
GOP = Good Oil Partners
GOP = Goodbye Old Pharts
You take one scary mug shot ceo. Actually, I don't feel uneasy at all about the direction of this election. Romney is your man for
better or forworse. Nobody in the country is buying what he's selling. Of course, part of the problem is that nobody knows what he's selling.Obama/Biden 2012!
My sister/mother thinks it's quite appealing....as far as the election, we'll know soon enough.
Judging by this article, it seems that Romney intends on running against President Obama as a RINO.
In any event, Romney has still signed on with the Grover Nordquist "protect the billionaires!" plan, as well as the Ryan "rob the Seniors of their Social Security and Medicare!" plan.
Romney's is making the exact same approach John McCain took: Play to the "middle" in the foreground, and play to "conservatives" in the background.
Obama / Biden 2012
Go ahead and strike down ACA. Republicans have nothing to replace it with. It's very clear they want to prevent, prevention efforts in health care and label it as personal responsibility. One would think that everyone paying for their own health care versus all of us paying for the uninsured would be personal responsibility.
Mittens can't win, there are too many sound bites and interviews where he is a "severe conservative" to back track and go to the middle to win independents.
Now Romney is in secret meetings with Gingrich. So watch out for the Romney/Gingrich ticket.
Well Eric, that sounds like a great ticket! Sketchy/Cheater 2012!
American G. - And the Bamster has signed on to the "bankrupt the country plan"....so everybody goes down, all programs are wiped out, we can then hit the reset button, start over and everybody will be equal. Sounds like a plan to me.
Wayne -
Aside from President Bush's slacks and his cool lavender socks (and hey, I'm a firm believer in the tenet that once you get past 80 you can wear whatever you darn well please!), the thing I found interesting in that video was the one analyst pointing out that the last time Romney won a general election was 2002.....last time for Santorum was 2000.....and last time for Gingrich was 1998. I think his exact words were "These are not exactly successful, current, contemporary, coalition-building, successful Republican politicians. The ones who are all passed on this race".
I think there's a really good reason why the other guys passed on this race.
And instead, Republicans are having to settle for Mitt Romney, who is:
1. Successful? Not.
2. Current? Not.
3. Contemporary? Not.
4. Coalition-building? Way not.
5. Successful again? Still not.
6. Republican politician? Well, I guess one out of six is still something.....

I surely did notice that too! For giving a public endorsement, Bush SURE didn't bother dressing up for the occasion, even though he new the cameras would be present. Hell, HW Bush didn't even bother matching his jacket to his pants! LOL. He MUST have done it to show his lack of enthusiasm towards Romney!

Oh come on! If we're "bankrupt" it was Republicans who bankrupt us. Republicans never could count (probably because not counting properly helped fill their pockets), and Republicans absolute LACK of knowledge of how to run the American Economy is what helped President Obama get elected in the first place!
Now tell me that GWB didn't crash the United States economy on purpose to make Osama Bin Laden's 2nd dream come true, after GWB presided over Osama Bin Laden's 1st dream, which was to conduct a terrorist attack on American soil, you know, 9/11.
Obama / Biden 2012
Bravo JoAnne! Great post! Though most folks would be wondering whether he even gets one out of six. You gave me a good laugh when I needed one. Thanks!
Again, FDH only brings sarcasm and no enlightenment to this thread. But at least he/she/it was first... The reason all the Republicans want to stay in is because they all know that bama is a one-term wonder so whoever gets the nomination gets the Presidency.
Whether Santorum drops out next week or not, things are finally settling down to the real choice. We know what Obama brings to the table. The big question now is what are Romney's real positions; how would he govern if elected? Since the odds of any one party taking the Congress, Senate and White House are slim, someone needs to figure out how to get government working again; we can not afford four more years of parties stuck on ideology and forgetting that there is a country to run.
I do not have a problem with Mitt changing his mind. At work, we call this learning from your mistakes. It is only a problem when you repeat you mistakes instead of learning from them. So Mitt, let's drop the right-of-Hitler pretense and have a real conversation about what you really think. Inquiring independents would like to know.
American G. - Ah yes....when your argument no longer has any validity, your ideas are vacant and all talking points have become moot....as a lefty, one can always rely on the old adage....just blame Bush. That has become so tired and....might I say, lame.
FYI....Obama has created more debt in his first 3 years!!!...than Bush created in his total 8 years. As an example, just look at his ACA legislation....now projected by the CBO to be over twice the original cost of 900B.
Congratulations....with the above comments you have officially entered the realm of left wing Kook. You have crossed over into hallowed territory.
When you have a front-runner like Willard who earns $57K PER DAY - of course there is a serious identity crisis...
Willard pays a lower tax rate then families who earn $57K PER YEAR...

Oh, sorry, I was under the impression that GWB used to be POTUS, but I guess not because if he was POTUS he would be held RESPONSIBLE for his FAILURES.
It does add to my millions of other reasons why I love having a Democrat for President of the United States -- It's comforting to have someone in the Oval Office who actually takes RESPONSIBILITY for his decisions. I like that quality, which Republicans clearly DON'T have.
I must say, Republicans claiming "amnesia" has lost it's validity as well (not that it actually was ever "valid" to begin with -- it's just another lame excuse for why Republicans ran the country into the ground).
Obama / Biden 2012
I loved that open mike moment when Papa Bush asked Romney if "W" had given his endorsement. He wouldn't even let the man finish his sentence before he said "No!" That endorsement would be the kiss of death when it came to getting votes out of independents. That endorsement would be trumpeted constantly all the way to November.
FR - I wonder if your 57k family gave $3 million to charity....???? I'm going to say... probably not.
I'm going to guess that you probably wish you did. If you only had the smarts, talent and work ethic to get that done.

Obama/Biden 2012
@ceo
FYI....Obama has created more debt in his first 3 years!!!...than Bush created in his total 8 years.
It appears that you are not counting the cost of a couple of wars that Bush started in your calculations, which is a big part of our current deficit. The Iraq war was completely bogus, and cost estimates range from $750B to $1T. The total cost of both wars is estimated around $2.4T by the Congressional Budget Office. Also TARP was created under Bush, and deregulation sponsored by the GOP created the mess that led to TARP and the stimulus funds. You GOTPers always conveniently leave out those FACTS.
Obama/Biden 2012
I love how the republican apologists are ignorant about the fact the so called increase in the deficit under Obama was actually incurred under GEORGE W BUSH!. Bush was hiding the trillion+ in debt that was racked up by two wars. It was never included on the deficit. He always got it through backdoor emergency funding measures that would never be added to the deficit. When Obama became president he stopped the massive Bush Lie and included the cost of those two wars in the deficit. When he did that it jumped dramatically. Plus the cost of President Bush's bailouts were not counted in the deficit until Obama became president. The vast majority of the current deficit came from REPUBLICANS but those same republicans have short memories and like to erase anything that makes them look like bad, uninformed hypocrites.
As a liberal, I am rather pleased at the nomination and its intended GOP winner.
While Romney is stuttering about how corporations are people too, the President is enjoying good returns on his policies. The economy is far better than when it was handed to him.
I, for one, am willing to see any candidate run against Obama. I believe the president will win by a substantial margin.
Fear? I fear the GOP has more growing up to do. After temper tantrums with the election of Obama, crying about socialistic idealism's, and derogatory name-calling, the republicans in their adolescence have lacked the maturity to debate a grown man like Obama.
Nope, no fear here. I've got my popcorn ready to watch this election with anticipation.
Sandy - thanks for reminding all of us of these facts. But, you do know that the GOP doesn't accept facts nor history.
What identity crisis? Either you are a Right Wing Nut Job - or - you are not. Pretty simple.
Sane Republicans should consider participating in the Democratic Party until we can heal the GOP together. Believe or not, Democrats will welcome conservative viewpoints and allow those conservative ideas to be debated within the party. I believe the Democratic Party would offer 'safe haven' to any sane Republican without demanding that they pass some 'true liberal' test. Democrats and sane Republicans should be working together to heal the cancer that has infected the GOP.
Romney is not going to heal the Republican Party. Romney will be vilified by the RWNJ Norquistians of the 'new' Republican party - and - Romney will do nothing to endear himself to Democrats. Romney cannot win - even if he is elected. Romney is simply campaigning to be the 'next worst President in American history'.
To President G.H.W. Bush -- love the socks. Good to see you are enjoying your retirement. BTW, a lot of Democrats would welcome you back as President, too.
American Girl-724855
It is brave of anyone to speculate what Romney is going to run as because I don't think Romney knows what Romney is going to be tomorrow.
ceo-722851
The reason why most people pick on Romney for his wealth is not because he has it - many do. It's because he tries so hard to make us believe that he is just a regular guy who drives a truck. And then he sticks his foot in his mouth with these stupid comments like "I only made 374k last year" or "I love cars - I have like 5 parked at each of my 7 homes" or "I don't care about poor people I just care about corporations who are people, too."
If Romney didn't try so hard to hide his money, we wouldn't even notice it as a bad thing. He makes it stick out like a sore thumb and people respond to it.
It seems that all you Republicans assume that if this (tainted) Supreme Court rules the ACA unconstitutional, Obama's support will go down the tubes. You are mistaken. It takes cooperation to govern, and this President has had none, during the time he has been in office. I would rather vote for someone who at least tries to fix what's wrong with the country. I have seen no proposals on the Republican side that would do anything but exacerbate the issues. I have heard no plans from Mitt that even make any sense, much less would provide solutions. Didn't he just say he can't tell us what he would do because then he would lose? No, I'll stick with the guy who cares about the middle class and has made efforts to actually help. I would like to think we would provide support to him by electing people who are willing to cooperate and actually govern, but I guess we'll have to see about that.
Hey, if I win the MegaMillions Lottery tonight, do I have to become a Republican ?
Good to see a Feisty Red Head comment that hasn't been collapsed. But you know when it happens, your comment is just too true for the hotheads to take. You go girl!
Did they check the nut houses? Their ideal candidate is probably gnawing through his britches and foaming at the mouth.
...there's no place like home...there's no place like home...It worked for Dorthy, maybe it'll work of the GOP Colorado!
Once Romney gets the nomination wrapped, it will be time to ask him to fire Limbaugh from Clear Channel or feel the WRATH OF WOMEN. Romney needs to fire him or sell his stock in Clear Channel!!!!
Thanks to Santorum, Blingrich, Limbaugh -- Their WAR ON WOMEN has clarified what the GOP is all about in voter's minds...
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL "2012 - the year Republican's mainstreamed crazy..."
I seem to recall that you said the same things in 2010.
Time will tell - once again.
The election this year will focus on whether we can afford 4 more years of Obama.
Here are the Deficit figures for the last 5 Presidents - with a link to the official government source to verify;
Reagan (1981-1988) = $1.339 Trillion over 8 years, or $167 Billion per year.
Bush 1 (1989-1992) = $933 Billion over 4 years, or $233 Billion per year.
Clinton (1993-2000) = $320 Billion over 8 years, or $40 Billion per year.
Bush 2 (2001-2008) = $2.006 Trillion over 8 years, or $251 Billion per year.
Obama (2009-2012p) = $5.453 Trillion (Proj) over first 4 years, or $1,363 Billion per year. That's $4.6 Trillion more than Bush spent in his first 4 years.
If Obama is reelected, he projects another $5 Trillion of Deficits in the next 4 years, or over $10 Trillion which our children and grandchildren will have as a 'millstone' around their necks for their entire lives. Running up huge debts is a great way to 'pander for votes', but somebody will have to pay it back (our children) - with interest.
Here's the official government link - See Table 1.3;
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals
Here's my understanding of one aspect of it:
The respective parties swing between left and right throughout history. Lincoln, a Republican, obviously had some very liberal ideas for the time. The South has always leaned more to the conservative side. Over time, the Republicans eventually came to represent conservatives and the Democrats gradually came to represent socially liberal.
That's how I figure it, anyway. Strom Thurmond used to be a Democrat, but he has always been conservative. As the Democratic party became more and more liberal, he stayed conservative and switched parties.
The Democratic Party was the party of segregation since the early 1900's and before that, they were staunchly anti Republican since Lincoln and afterwards Reconstruction, when they had they voting rights taken away and actually had black Republican Representatives that were pretty much appointed by Congress.
During the Civil Rights movement there was a strict segregationist segment called the Dixiecrats. Since Kennedy and later LBJ, both Democrats, and especially LBJ, pretty much signed Bills ending segregation, the south moved over to the more conservative Republican side. Actually, I think Texas was a Democrat state up until the eighties.
Really it wasn't until the '90s that Texas really shifted over to the Republican side overall, but the start did begin in the late '80s (or, if you count Bill Clements getting elected Governor, it would start in the late '70s, I guess, but since Clements was often the lone Republican in real power and was replaced by Democrats both times as Governor, it's hard to say whether his election was really the start of the Republican takeover of Texas). There would be the occassional Republican elected statewide (John Tower to the Senate in the '60s, for example), but Democrats had a stranglehold on almost all of the power positions until relatively recently.
Not quite... The 2010 "shellacking" would not have happened if progressives had the same enthusiasm and gotten out the vote--which they are notoriously bad at in mid-term elections. So don't give too much credence to this.
The article correctly points out the problem of "purity" as well as "savagery" of the Teabag movement, which has resulted in obstructionism and degeneration of civility, both of which turn off independent and swing voters. The degeneration of civility has been a double-edged sword, with the problem of bigotry plaguing their own Party and disenfranchising minority races, other religions, and most of all women who are 51% of the population.
However, the article fails to mention the "bait and switch" backlash from the 2010 election that Teapublicans suffer now as well. The days of campaign promises like jobs, and then pivoting to a completely different agenda isn't going to work in these times of 24-hour news cycles with everything recorded for instant playback. Especially if and when the GOP pivots to a religious agenda. The American people have always pushed back religious overreach, and always will (thank goodness).
Some pundits reference other more credible candidates who passed this time around. But I would argue per the above that this is a mythical creature that doesn't exist at this time. The GOP/TP has gone to the Right of Atilla the Hun, and therefore the Christine O'Donnells are what comes out of the woodwork rather than real "rising stars" who can appeal to more than a narrow, rigid base. Add to this the circus-like primary that we've witnessed this season, and Teapublicans have ended up recycling their rejects from previous years, as if voters will want these rejects anymore now than they did back when.
The GOP needs to do some major reflection. Supply-side economics is voodoo, and "starve the beast" is even worse. Neocon foreign policy has been debunked as well. And the Religious Right need to be kept out of politics altogether.
Jack335 -- Agreed, but more like the platforms flipped due to the Southern Strategy.
Addendum to Post #1.35 - Let's also look at the 'JOBS' picture under Obama;
The total average number of people employed in 2008 (Bush's last year, including losses at the
end of 2008) = 136,790,000.
The total average people employed in 2011 (Obama's 3rd year) = 131,359,000 – that's a LOSS under Obama of 5,431,000 net jobs. Here's the Link to official Bureau of Labor Statistics site on employment to verify - Compare Total Employees for 2011 vs 2008;

Those 'Incovenient Facts' get in the way of perfectly good 'spins', don't they?
Earlier this year, it was revealed the the US government had contracted with HBGary Federal to develop software that create fake social media accounts in order to steer public opinion and promote propaganda on popular websites. The federal contract for the software sourced back to the MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.
Do your own research people. Do not let the mainstream media tell you what to think, do not let the government tell you what to think. Remember, the Gulf of Tonken never happened but over 60,000 Americans lost their lives and millions of Vietnamese in the Vietnam war, history repeats itself.
Do not vote for anyone except Ron Paul unless you are happy with inflation, higher taxes, perpetual unconstitutional wars, and fascism in the making.
It is very early for the left singing victory, considering that Obama has been doing presidential campaign during the past 6 years, after nearly four years, the only thing that has been achieved is to diminish the confidence of the voters of 60% , when he was elected ,time in which we were all to the expectations of a good and transparent Government , to a 47 % of approval , due to its inability to govern because their misguided policy, in addition, there is a considerable increase in negativity that reaches 46 % , these are not very encouraging numbers to the left , even more according to the daily POLITICO there is a greater chance that the obstructionist Democrats lost the Senate. As is the case of Elizabeth Warren the communist democrat candidate to the Senate in Massashusetts is well behind the Senator Brown. I am sure that the left with its hypocritical style is going to challenge the fact that Romney is Mormon however never question the religion of Obama which he himself referred ' My Muslim faith" in an interview on TV.
Voters will soon feel the consequences of increases in fuel and energy, curiously the most affected will be those who have fewer resources, the people who say he advocates

Enormous unstoppable record high debt and deficit ....
Debacles like Solyndra ....
Obama out in 2012 ....
Because the Teapublican nut jobs really don't want him. But since Santorum, Gingrich and the rest of them imploded, there really is no other choice. I have one for them, don't vote at all. Makes no sense to vote if you don't believe in the candidate.
Yea, Ron Paul a true American hero. Wow, he is a republican, and till death will be a republican. He will only make our lives that much worse not better, worse. Good thing most Ron Paul sopprters do note vote. They don't want their names in the system or something like that.
Roy Wilson: Only ideologues who (a) have an agenda and (b) are afraid of real economic analysis ever refer to "total average people employed per year."
Economists, on the other hand, never do. Never, ever.
In practical terms for the sake of policy guidance, that makes you a liar.
The GOP identity crisis would not be a problem for someone that ran on their true beliefs. But if you're flipping your positions daily while you chase the moving target of the "party line", you cause yourself more problems. That's what Romney did, does, and will continue to do... why on earth would you vote for something like that?
But Romney aside (please), the GOP needs to start thinking more about what it's for instead of what it's against. They "used to be" fora great many things that Obama has proposed... but not now. They create legislation purely to cause political angst for whoever votes against it, without any hope of passing anything. A pure waste of time.
Here's my prediction: The laughable purely political "court" will vote party lines AGAINST the mandatory purchase of insurance and will then throw out the whole health care bill. This will cause health care to go into a complete death spiral given the numbers of uninsured that we have and how costs are escalating. Eventually, because the "court" rejected this attempt to keep the insurance companies involved, we WILL go to single payer. We won't have a choice. The GOP sure as hell won't fix anything... they are incapable of it. Single payer here we come.
Not gonna happen. Romney will never carry the big states (California, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan and most likely Ohio) except Texas and possibly Florida. I agree that with Mitt, the election will be closer than if any of the other nut jobs get it, but still not enough to win. Remember it's electoral votes that clinch the deal.
Roy,
Seriously? You're going to compare Bush employment numbers that were derived just before he tanked the economy and call that "analysis". It's BS... not even worth trying to explain it to you.
You'll just quote another meaningless number.
Republican candidates dont stand a chance, how can they possibly pay off that many people.

How I love the GOP's new political mantra they are now using "Elect Us America, And You're On Your Own". I would say that just about sums it up!
"A bit of a crisis"? Yea maybe ya think so? The lack of honor in GOP goverinance has done more harm to this country in the last 3 years than in ANYTHING in our history. ANYTHING!
Thomas Jefferson
I guess if Obama starts to lose in Nov. he can contact the Black Panthers and they can put a contract on Romney. They seem to break the law quite well. Obama has broken many constitutional law without thinking. Next he will forgo the constitution and declare it null and void and then declare himself KING OF AMERICA
NOBAMA 2012
ceo, you are right. We shouldn't be bashing GWB. Mainly because his eight year presidency NEVER happened! Have you noticed how little attention the former Texas governor gets? Nope, the years 2001 to 2007 never happened. A figment of everyone's imagination. Was he even the governor of Texas? Yup, can't be bashing someone who never was.
Jeb Bush/2012
What no one seems interested in is the fact that Romney has never informed anyone "Why I want to be President of the United States of America..." No one in the educated written press seems to have written about this curiosity. It appears that the GOP of the Millenium is about EGO...and the only centralizing theme appears to be "beating Barak Obama," demonizing the man and creating lies just to get elected. That is not a debate of ideas nor is it a platform for a Presidential Campaign. The new GOP and far right members have bought and paid for all political campaigns in the name of EGO, GREED, AYN RAND, Karl Rove, The Brothers Koch,...et.al. Any of you who side with them are being sucked in by blatent emotional appeal, the very lowest of insults. They assume that you cannot read or research independently for the sake of your own minds. Democrats are NOT LIBERALS anymore. They are more Republican than the GOP with a little greed and ego removed. Voter supression should never be a discussion yet it is a gross reality sponsored and funded by the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove's Foundation. We need to ask ourselves how someone like Paul Ryan could be elected to a position of such responsibility. He does not speak for me. Just because his ideology speaks to the very wealthy in this Country, does not connotate that his decisions are best for the Country. He is part of a deconstructionist effort that has been in effect for the past 40 years as documented by contemporary Sociologists studying how this Country has become so impoverished economically and politically. The political discussions today have actually regressed not progressed. Those of you who think you belong to the Republican Party had better study and read your History. Our Government was created to take care of what private business could not perform. Now, private business owns Government and refuses to take care of societal structures thus leading to erosion and destuction of civilized society. There is no Middle Class. There is the Upper Middle Class and the Working Poor and the Very Poor. Our Government's functional and foundational design is literally turned on its head. If the GOP wants less Government, let us begin with all of the Congessional and Senate Staffers. Representatives appear to have too much time on their hands. They have the best healthcare coverage for life. Lets make them pay for their own Insurance Policies. Do we ever cut from the top? No. If the President of the United States and his family are responsible for paying for their own meals, let's start cutting Paul Ryan's benefits and perks he enjoys as an overcompensated elected official.
It's plain to see that many Republicans want their nominee to be anybody except Romney. That fervent fever is only surpassed by their determination that the next President be anybody but Obama. Any half-wit can see the many flaws in such logic.
It's the very same logic that put Howdy Doody in the oval office for 8 years. That smirking puppet inherited a nation at peace and an economy that was the healthiest in all American history. He left that nation fighting two simultaneous wars with an economy that rivaled the very worst economy in American history. I don't even blame the guy.
He was an affable clown that failed in all of his endeavors until Daddy (or some of Daddy's powerful friends) came to his rescue. He believed that God made him President and therefore could do no wrong. The poor sap had no clue that God had nothing to do with it.
It was you! Your misplaced partisan loyalty that put this idiot in office to become the hapless leader of the free world simply because he carried that (R) beside his name. You are the traitorous fools that disregarded the health of a great nation so long as one of "your guys" held the Presidency.
Is it any wonder that it is also you that doggedly shush every alert individual that rightfully asserts that it was the Bush Administration that dug us into this deep hole? Of course not! Guilt is a horrible burden. The guilty often try to hide their shame in dark corners.
Not you. Your tactics are simply to deny, deny and deny as you consistently lie, lie and lie. You have no shame. You persist in pointing fingers at the new guy hired to clean up YOUR mess and blame HIM for creating it as you obstruct his every effort.
Not only that, you put on this dog and pony show(called the Republican primary) with expectations that the American electorate will fully support a candidate to do it all over again with the same failed methods. You foolishly believe that the American electorate will embrace the same candidate that necessitates you holding your nose as you vote for him. I will paraphrase a past defeated Republican candidate when he said, "It ain't gonna happen".
Uh, the new guy hired to clean up the mess has been a total, miserable failure.
While on a roll, I'd like to quote another famous Republican.
"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
Take it from G.W. Even this idiot seemed to have a sense of the future for the GOP in election 2012.
You guys are all insane. But do any of you realize it? I know this is MBNC and you all lean left here, but good Lord, do you read what you post?
What happened to logic? This COUNTRY IS IN SERIOUS NEED OF HELP! We have a President who can't solve a thing and when he makes a statement or policy pisses everyone off, we have a divided Republican party between conservatives and moderates and NO ONE is doing anything!
Get off your high horse, quit spouting off, and actually do SOMETHING about it.
Aralee - Our President is trying to work with a House of Representatives and Senate the way it was constructed to work. Unfortunately, his attempts at holding them accountable to do the WORK OF THE PEOPLE who elected them is not working because the people who got them elected are K Street Lobbyists, David and Charles Koch, Karl Rove's Foundation to elect all GOP members to every governing position throughout the United States of America, Halibuton, et.al. He is not corrupt. He does not strong arm anyone not even obstructionist John Boehner. We as voters have to do our jobs and elect representatives who will put an end to Citizens United, be active in our own local and State Governments and pay attention to what these hippocrites are deconstructing in Washington. One Person Cannot Do It ALL. This is a Government Of The People, By The People. Not a passive role by any means. When was the last time you called or wrote to your representatives, city council, etc.? Do you participate in your Government or are you a pacifist? It would be interesting to see if you learned anything from your high school Government requirement class, or do they still teach that subject as a requirement for graduation?
P.S. - MSNBC since being acquired by COMCAST, is quite a bit more centrist using more traditional Republican Scholarly minds...the best that are out there. They are not "Liberal" as much as they are about holding Government accountable and reporting the FACTS. They no longer lean "Left" since there is no left to lean toward anymore if you follow history at all. They do in fact, "Lean Forward." They have the best Journalistic Minds and more centrist than they ever have been. I like the fact that they are presenting a better balanced political discourse than the likes of Karl Rove and...? People like Karl Rove are about satisfying their own unsatisifed control issues and thrusting them upon the American Public in the form of Citizens United...a Bill now Amendment that identifies Corporations as "People" in this Country. Think this isn't about someone's ultimate ego? Think again.
First of all, statism isn't a philosophy..it's a broken ideology of sadism.
2nd...conservatives, progressives, and liberals are statists, so they have no philosophy.
3rd...moderates are statists who are lazy intellectually and have no real convictions. They're worse than the conservative and liberal loons.
4th...The RepubliBlood Party is split (and I wish the DemoCrips Party was too) not between moderates statists and conservative statists, but between neoconservatives (progressive RepubliBloods) and libertarians. There aren't any real conservatives today (paeloconservatives). They were against foreign intervention...unlike the warmonger neocons who used to be DemoCrips in the 1960s before changing Parties and bringing their progressive "police the world" Wilsonian foreign policy with them. So, it's just libertarians and neocons...and the libertarians won't vote for anyone but Ron Paul. That's your split. And it isn't going to heal. The RepubliBloods will lose to Obama, and every other election, until they decide to nominate libertarians. I know I'll be voting to see them lose from here on out until they wake the hell up.
5th...the DemoCrips should wake the hell up too, and start realizing they and the RepubliBloods are two sides of the same fascist, statist, sadistic coin. Both are pro-war when they get in office, both are drug war lovers, both torture, surveil innocent Americans with drones, use warrantless wiretaps, let federal agents write their own search warrants, assassinate U.S. citizens without so much as a judicial review, and the list goes on and on...
...because that's what conservativism, liberalism, and progressivism are; ideologies (not philosophies) based on statism. They love the warfare/welfare nonsense because it's "bread and circuses" just like in Ancient Rome. They support a "better run" mafia (state). Nationalism and statism are mental disorders that feed each other.
Stop being co-dependent. Stop enabling. Stop being alseep. WAKE UP! It's not too late to take the blue pill. It's never too late.
Feisty, you must work msnbc.com. You're a name-calling, hate-filled flaming liberal and you're always the first on the board to attack anything that remotely resembles a Republican or conservative item that they "report" on. I hope when your idol, Barry, gets beat in November that you don't get too depressed.
Mint Raw Money's biggest liability is Mint Raw Money.
3thirty3
I've never spoken to Feisty directly, although I've read her posts enough. I don't share every view, many for sure, but not every view with her but she has her right to an opinion as do you and I.
I had looked at her posts in a different way as you. She seems well knowledged in her politics. As I said, I have read her posts and nothing else, so her identity in real life is a mystery to me.
Why she gets so many first posts is a mystery to me as well. I believe she knows the routine. I also know you can sign up to First Read alerts. Perhaps she is one that may write some of the articles, although that is a shot in the dark.
I look at her posts as if she was a knowledgeable liberal and pretty die hard on focusing on the current news. She does amaze me with her posts.
As for your post... you can not start a debate with someone that uses such derogatory language such as "Barry". He is, after all, your elected president. Your lack of respect for the office of the presidency encourages me to dismiss your comments as vitriol.
However, you have a right to refer to the president any way you like. But, don't expect an entertaining debate.
So, I'll let you get back to throwing your insults around while chastising others for doing the same thing.
Wow, ceo is like the physical manifestation of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
There it is people of the republican party ..If ol' man bush says it is about time to get behind this good man,Then it is the LAST thing that youknow that you should do Or have you forgot about his "trickel down & Voodoo economics. bad Idea not that rich snob! You know that he is worried now. His main oponents is on his heals and he is worried.
If the right-wing fails, after blaming others, they say their solution is to go father to the right. And when they succeed, they say they have a mandate from God to go, yes, you've guessed the answer correctly ...ever farther to the right. No matter what, their answer is always to go more the right of the political and religious spectrum
To paraphrase what "Feisty" is known to say, just bust out the popcorn and watch this entertaining show of the Right-Wing bumbling themselves into laughable and discredited unimportance.
So I figure the 2012 General Election will prove to be either a weak double-digit percentage win for Obama / Biden, or, the percentage difference will be even bigger in favor for Democrats. Back in 1964, the GOP chose the most conservative of candidates to lead them...and so they chose Barry Goldwater. What a voting disaster that was for the GOP, after Goldwater lost in a landslide to Lyndon Johnson.
Thus, the more the Right demands "purity" from their leaders, the less willing the mainstream American electorate is willing to vote for the GOP Tea Party's candidates with ever-more-extremist ideas. No need to blame progressives or centrists ...the Far Right already dooms itself.
I have to chuckle when I read a republican of all people attempting to point out the unemployment numbers and compare them to Mr. Obama's. They always seem to forget to add that unemployment when Geroge Bush took office was at 3.6% and at 7.6% and rising fast when they were taken out of power in 2008.
Even with all of the GOP issues, Obama doesn't stand a chance.
Obama has flipped and flopped much more than Romney ever had. In fact, just last week Obama called for Congress to stop subsidizing big oil even though back in 2005 Obama, then Senator, voted for subsidizing big oil. Amazing
Obama attacked Hillary for her health care reform plan by stating he would NEVER require Americans to purchase health insurance that he didn't believe in an insurance mandate. But then he signed a bill into law that did that very thing.
Obama has nothing to run on. His claim to fame Obamacare is in a flat spin and falling from the sky quicker than Obama's mic being turned off. The Russians are enjoying and even laughing at Obama as we speak.
The liberal experiment is again about to end and in a nick of time IMO. Spending obviously hasn't worked, unless your measure of success is based on the amount of debt America has increased over the past 3+ years.
The Senate needs to be replaced with public servants that understand what their responsibilities are. Like producing a budget like the Republican House has done. Without a budget from the Senate, there can't be any negotiating between the two budget offerings to create a bipartisan budget that would be accepted by both sides of the the isle.
mikela
Only a liberal would laugh about the economic crash. Your comment is typical of most liberals that won't accept the fact that Congress was controlled by the Democrats for TWO years prior to the housing market collapse and chose to do nothing to prevent it. In fact, even Barney Frank claimed Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac were just find 3 months prior to the collapse even though many knew that to not be the case and even warned about it months prior. Priceless.
You must be one of those um... conservatives Dude.... You people really never read anything in front of you. Which is no big surprise when you put your feet in your mouths after sputtering idiocy. I see you have been trained well by your cultist members. You couldn't even address the issue I wrote but instead decided to change it to housing. Another sector you people destroyed with your wars and oil manipulations.
rednawt1-- Teapublican pundits spin Dubya this way... We don't talk about Dubya because the candidate who talks about the future is the candidate who wins. Sounds okay on the surface, but with more thought, it's a load of crap. How can you know where you're going if you don't know where you've been?
The majority of Americans are not going to forget the economic mess of the Dubya years, nor should they. In fact it is VERY important to understand what caused the mess so we don't repeat those same mistakes -- Mistakes that Teapublicans want not only to repeat, but to put on steroids. I sure as heck won't forget, and Romney getting behind Paul Ryan is a kiss of death.
What we want is not only a candidate who looks to the future, but who does so in an optimistic way, a viable way, and for the benefit of all (not just the rich). The Teapublican Race to the Bottom, with every man, woman, and child for his/herself is the most ugly and depressing vision I've seen in my lifetime.
Obama/Biden - 2012!
mikela
Yes, I am. Nice of you to notice.
So, where did I "sputter idiocy"? Or is this your standard reply when you are unable to respond to the truth?
Ahhh, so now I have been categorized as a cult member. Funny coming from someone that supports Democrats when you realize it was the Democrats in the South that wore white hoods and fought to keep slavery.
I pointed out that the Democrats controlled Congress for the final two years of Bush's reign. Since Congress controls legislation that impacts jobs and controls ALL spending (the President can't spend a dime without Congressional approval) then it is obvious the Democrats share in the blame of over spending and not making an effort to stop the housing bubble collapse which DIRECTLY impacted unemployment numbers. I really didn't think I had to explain in such detail but you obviously couldn't figure out what I had to say on your own.
Funny, didn't Congress just vote on eliminating the subsidies (tax breaks) big oil receives? Oh yeah, they did and BOTH Republicans and Democrats voted to keep them in effect. Obama demanded those subsidies be stopped even though Obama voted to keep them back in 2005 when he was a Senator. I know, pretty amazing flip flop but it is what it is.
And not much different then today, it was the Liberal Democrats, enviromentalist and the Democrat Senate that fought the hardest against his proposals, not much different then today.
But that said, one could say the same about any President who has held office going back to Kennedy. The fact is energy policies were voted down or put on the back burner since it wasn't considered a real crisis. So hear we are... And one can say our SS & MC policies will end up where we are on energy since that too has been put on the back burner for decades. One thing you can say that is good about DC is they sure know how to kick the can down the road. Democrats & Republicans.
Really? It doesn't take a genius to realize that even if you were to somehow win today's mega millions, if people don't like you it doesn't matter how well funded you are. Romney's battling women, gays, brains and the true conservatives. In my book, that only leaves the uneducated, the unaware, and most importantly, the turds that come on FR and spew there anti-obama rhetoric.
p.s. why do all the republican candidates consistently look constipated? Any thoughts?
Not enough fiber in their diet?
Romney will bet you $10,000 that he'll win. ;-)
Eric,
Yes, Romney does have the money - but does he get enough fiber? From some of his facial expressions I would guess not.
You mean in addition to having a large wallet that perhaps Romney has a large colon as well? (sorry couldn't resist).
My opinion is that they're spewing the bullsh!t out of the wrong end, mayhaps they need to rethink their strategies for the sake of their health.
rothemechanics
yes, that is what that look reminds me of! I though that was just him thinking what he was to say nex...it's gotta be hard to flip-flop as much as Romney does. He still gotta keep track of who the audience is so he says the right thing.
TO: Eric-913730 who wrote:
Romney sure needs a "large colon," considering what he's full of!
(Sorry, I couldn't resist either. LOL)
Obama / Biden 2012
I'd take that bet, easiest 10 grand I ever made.
I've said it before and I'll say it again; if the Republican Nomination process has been a 3 ring circus...watching Romney trying to swing to the middle will be pure Vaudeville! Beer and pretzels all around!
Obama will go down as the worst president in the history of history ....
Obama out in 2012 ....
Can't happen - 'W' already has that honor! ☺
pay him no mind, Feisty. Look at the last part of his name. Alaska, says it all. I think the nuttiest of the nut jobs hails from there.
thats just todd, the alaska house husband, with nothing better to do.
Rotthemechanics
I thought the subject was about Romney but your describing Obama.
Feisty Redhead with the Fox News logo,
you are wrong, until Obama came along Jimmy Carter had the distinction of being the worse president in modern history. Now Obama has made him the happiest man in the world.
He should call up Meg Whitman and have a chat.
Obama the worst president?
Hardly.
Please wait on GWB to endorse someone. Lets see how valuable that will be to a candidate.
What I find funny is that democrats really have faith in Obama. Not that I have faith in repubs either, but at least I'm not the donkey here. Both parties are full of the ultra rich that couldnt even understand our lives if they tried (which they wont). Neither cares about us, or anything to do with us. But the democrats seem to be the must gullible suckers the politicans can find out there. It must be great having both sides fight each other so much you can keep ripping both sides off and laughing at them at the same time. But thats ok keep being dumbocrats and retardicans.
You would think that all the money Romney has he could have brought the Presidency by now. I guess it is his character that people don't like.
I'm sick of all these whiny Republicans. I want to here some policy solutions. Republicans don't have any all they can do is attack.
Romney has one. Reduce long term capital gains tax for his buddies and they will create jobs. We've been waiting for 40 years, how long does it take?
Save a Millionaire.... Vote Republican
SSDD! Yep Same problem. Only professional politicians running the show. POLITICIANS dance with the ones who brung um. BY BRUNG UM. I mean those that fork over the BIG Bucks. Period! Not whether you as group vote for the selfish self serving SOB they will dance with the money. The only difference in Romney and the Half Breed Kenyan is Romney is from a wealthy family. Only knows the life of the silver spoon. How many of the companies Romney took over sent their jobs over seas leaving American workers to fend for them selves. YEP! SSDD!
@Bosslimo
George W. Bush has already endorsed Mitt Romney. Check the recent news. :)
I have said it before and will say it again.
IF you don not get a VIABLE 3th PARTY you are all doomed.
At present the only choice you have is between tweedle dumb and tweedle dee.Tthe present two are a bunch of crooks
And you know what they say about crooks as the is no honer among them
Feisty: Wait.... Obama isn't done yet. Wait till that Healthcare law takes effect.
BigBenAlaska...That honor belongs to the traitor and mass murderer George "dip @!$%#" Bush.
Geez, when has anyone taken any of his posts serious?
What I want to know is why is the media is not reporting Santorum's speech in Janesville WI yesterday, its all on tape, he slipped upped and almost called Obama the "NIG" word. Then he tries to correct himself, babbled his way out of it, you can see clearing he knew he almost said the N word. And he has the gall to call himself a Christian, what a joke.
http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bluecheddar.net%2F%3Fp%3D20189&h=rAQHmfXXa
What a complete BS article. Get real. The article is nothing but spin trying to help the left. It will not work. Obama will lose in 2012 election.
Gee...a little projection there ricky? The article is spin? Like the right never uses spin...ever! The article is to help the left? How? Any intelligent American knows what Rmoney is all about....or do they? Considering he flip flops on every issue.
I am going to say this and I know many will attack me and some will side with me. Yet I have been saying this time and time again. The only candidate to date that can and has the ability to beat President Barak Obama is Newt Gingrich. Now hear me out before you all begin shooting down the man because of some shortcomings in his past that still haunt him to this day. The real reason in my opinion why the GOP Establishment has chosen to back Romney rather than Gingrich is this.
While Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House he bully pulpit ed over the Republican takeover in 1994. He had a plan for the Freshman Congress Men and Women that came into office. His 100 day Contract with America. He was very driven and much so a taskmaster while in the Speakers Chair, many to this day felt that he was a very mean man. Yet most never really understood him and his message. He wanted less government which has been the GOP mantra for many years. He wanted a balanced budget and actually did it. Which many don't give him credit for having a hand in giving then President Clinton the surplus many are quick to point out GW spent. That's another argument.
Newt was not well liked. So I asked myself why? I actually had the distinct honor of visiting our nation's capital not only once but twice during this time. I was associated with a Church prayer fellowship that sent people of prayer back to our nations capital to pray for our leaders as we are commanded to in the bible if that is a book you believe in. Our State's Congressman had invited us back for a Congressional tour.
So I asked what Newt Gingrich was like. Well I would get many different answers about the man depending on who you where talking to, he is hard to work with and for because of his very driven way and a hard taskmaster. Others would say he was a very nice man and pleasant to speak to and be around. Well this told me alot about the man. It meant that he was a person who was very much a hard worker and has a deep love for his nation.
Then I met him and my suspicions where right. He believed in hard work when your sent to a job. That means if your voters sent you here to represent them. Then well you better be doing that. He is very goal oriented and driven to succeed at what ever task is laid before his hand. Yes he is a insider and has been in Washington DC for awhile. Yet that is what we need at an hour as this. We need a leader who has a vision for the future of America to continue to be a great nation well into the 21st century. He is the only candidate who has his entire game plan laid out on his website for all to see and analyze. Yes many of you may disagree with his ideology because he is a Republican. Yet if you look at some of his ideas. They are brilliant. They will work.
Colonize the moon. Many laugh at this idea. Yet many are not aware of a mineral that is much needed in our Nuclear programs is much more available on the moon then here. Hence why Russia and China are heating up their space programs to land men and women on the moon again. The other thought pattern here is also the restoration and a boost in our Science and Industries programs again. When we restore our Space program. There would be many new discoveries from this direction of thinking. We would naturally have to R&D green energies in our search for the best fuels for prolonged space flight. The multitude of jobs required to take a nation this direction instead of the usual Military Super Complex.
So I have said my long winded piece on what my feelings are of Newt Gingrich. What Washington DC fears from this guy is that they will all have to begin to work for a living for once or twice in their political lives. They know he would drive them to do their jobs. Which why not? We as employees are held accountable everyday we work to our boss. Well its time DC begin to be accountable from both sides of the aisles. We need someone who is willing to sit down and work things out even if it means hard decisions have to be made. So far nothing is happening in Washington DC except for the worries of re-election and how their going to finance their next political campaign.
We need real Representation and someone who will make our Representatives do their jobs. Lets look at this with common sense, both sides of the aisle are guilty for there lack of leadership and working together on a plan to bring jobs back to the USA and get this economy going again. ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID. That's what I would say to a Representative today. How about all of you. Lets quit being divided over the social issues and focus on the real issues at hand that ail our nation.
I truly believe Newt Gingrich has the knowledge and know how to get our nation back on track with his game plan already spelled out. At least you know what your getting. Romney you don't know what your getting. Santorum you know what your getting and it scares most.Paul you know but you don't know what you are going to get. In my opinion President Obama has performed poorly in his duties and showed lack of mature leadership early on when he alienated the then minority Republican Congress and Senate.
If I recall, and many seem to forget including the bias news, the Democratic nomination was still going on at this time also between Hillary & Obama. What's the big deal anyway. At least the majority of the States have a say in who they want. Isn't that what our Republic Democracy is all about.
“Why don’t they send someone to Grover’s meeting in D.C.?” added that person, referring to the weekly meeting of conservative activists hosted by anti-tax advocate Grover Norquist.'...The real answer to just who is running the republican party today is in the above statement. No where do I see where the republican party is concerned at all with the real views of the general public. Their only concern is for what the extreame side wants..most of which are among the very wealthy..Anyone who thinks I am wrong needs to look closely at just who will bear all the burden for erasing the huge debt brought on by the republican president Bush..who started a was that was not paid for and handed out tax cuts to the wealthy that helped this country not at all. For all of the talking he and others in the republican party did about jobs to be created..none of it happened..plenty of jobs however left this country. The republicans today are saying the very same things..yet..they have done nothing in the last three years to enhance this country at all.
Your last sentence says it all: Gingrich has shortcomings that haunt him to this day. He is a serial adulterer. If his own wives can't trust him, why should we??
Remember when Gingrich was run out of town on a rail by his own party for corruption? If Republicans can't trust him, why should Democrats or Independents? Has Gingrich been endorsed by anyone whose endorsement would help him?
Please don't tell us that 'he's gone to god for forgiveness and reconciliation'. Newt said it best himself: that's pious baloney!
God may have forgiven him: the voters have not.
Gingrich hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell of beating President Obama! Have you paid any attention at all to the primary results? Do you see Newt in first place? Come back from your delusional state and dwell here in reality for a moment.
Whatever you're smoking, it's doing you no good.
Bosslimo,
Whether they want to admit it or not - think of where we would be today on energy dependence if they had listened to anything President Carter proposed back then...
PS: Thank you for the kind words above! I enjoy your comments as well...
And Mitt came down from the high rockie mountains, bearing golden tablets covered with BS, and yeah he asketh all that knelt down before him to be with him and shod their feet with flip flops - the reasons for his warm and wonderful personality and appeal are self evident, that all MEN are created equal, and endowed by THEIR creator with all the rights and let the womens have all the wrongs - right out of Adam and Eve (don't forget the talking snake)........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
SSBN658
And then he gutted the country, cut all benefits and jobs to the working class and drained the publc coffers and putting the net proceeds of what he gleened into his and his crony's pockets, he walked away in his flip flops chuckling to himself about what morons the common people are.
Ivan I beg to differ with you on your statement that Bush saddled us with the enormous debt we see. President Barack Obama has under his tender nearly now tripled the spending and indebtedness of this nation. Now he wants even more money, for what? To take extravagant vacations on the taxpayers back, to bail out even more failing companies because of their connection to big labor? Should we send more money overseas for Nations that continually shows a disdain for us in the first place.
To answer why should we trust Gingrich? Well no I am not going to say because he asked God for forgiveness. No I am saying I am willing to give a person a chance to show us what he can do. As far as your corruption statement. Well there where never charges that he was ever convicted for. Not even a censure.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
It's all because republicans are the bitches of oil. Sure, some democrats too. Mostly republicans. Everyone knows conservatives only tolerate the lust affair with big business because republicans claim to have God on their side.
It sounds like a torrid romance novel. Republicans cheating on their constituents, come home and prop their feet up, and tell the constituents, "Gimme another vote!". The constituents ask, "Where have you been?". The republicans say, "It's none of your business!". The constituents ask, "Whats this I hear about a marriage you promised with Grover Norquist?". Republicans say, "Look bitch, I did it for the good of our nation!" and heads off to the shower to wash the santorum off his ass.
Kiadi I can't find anything on it. If he did endorse Romney, it was a kiss of death.
The Atlantic - 1 day ago
"p.s. why do all the republican candidates consistently look constipated? Any thoughts?"
Actually what you see on their faces is nausea. They keep looking at the current occupant of the White House. How can you not be nauseated?? I want to puke every time I see or hear him open his mouth.
It's not an identity crisis, it's identity recognition. There are many long time Republicans who are disgusted with what has become of the party. Reagan, Goldwater, Nixon, Ike would never even get the nomination in this current cluster called the Republican party.
Kiadi, It was Bush daddy that endorsed Romney, not the shrub.
Lets say Obama is not the worst president, lets say he's the 2nd worst president....Hmmmm what an honor!!!! :)
I think when Obama finishes his 1st term...he will be the worst.....but if he is 2nd worst....He definitely deserves the award!!!
It's not just an image, it's the reality of who Romney is.
No? Then what would you call this:
Remember, Money spent on this election cycle creates JOBS. A whole industry including the pres has extra employees to cover this and the more they spend, the more jobs they create. This is the only place "trickle Down" economics works because the rich WILL spend money here. BIG MONEY!
Dear baked brain alaska:
re obama being worst president - after your guy wasted a trillion bucks in the war to triple the power of Iran -
Wanna bet ten grand?
@sword-pen
my god, man, you've fallen on your keyboard and can't get up!
Laura: Because the media did not want to bring into question Obama's racist book " Dreams of my father", which if you had read it is filled with racist remarks( in print). I thought Obama was a christian too? (sarcastic).
So tell me, when Obama does it, it wasn't considered racism?
SwordNPen says:
I beg to differ with you on your statement that Bush saddled us with the enormous debt we see. President Barack Obama has under his tender nearly now tripled the spending and indebtedness of this nation.
That is just enough of this lie! The numbers are readily available here: National Debt by year 2000-2010
2001 - (first Bush budget year) national debt = $5.8T
2009 - (last Bush budget year) national debt = $11.9T
2012 - (last statement March 2012) national debt = $15.5T
In no way has Obama tripled spending!!
The reason you have to look at national debt and not budget numbers is because Bush kept so much off of the budget. All spending for 2 wars aws done only by "emergency spending measures". Although Bush only recorded average $250B deficits during his entire 8 years, the national debt actually increased on average, $700B every year. Bush, Cheney and Republican majorities in both houses (6 out of 8 years) spent money like drunken sailors!
Now, before I get jumped on for including 2009 with Bush's record, you must realize that the government fiscal year runs from Oct to Oct. In fact, you will note that my source for national debt clearly states that each year is 9/30/XXXX. That is because that's when the old budget ends and a new budget takes effect. Everybody that calculates the debt figures from the time a president takes office ignores the fact that, for the 10 months of his first year, any president now is working with a previous presidents's budget!
Bush's last budget (for 2009) had a $1.4T deficit that Obama had no control over. Obama's first budget (for 2010) had a $1.3T deficit. Obama actually decreased spending in the first budget he had any control over!
Well said !!!
Ditto! What 96ws6 said! :)
Your not fooling anyone RINO Romney. We know your a FAKE, ESTABLISHMENT, POSER an ELITIST, FLIP FLOPPING, PHONEY that stands for nothing!
Watch out Dems, RINO Romney has the ability to morph into Barack Hussein Obama. RINO Romney has LOST every venue where he couldn't buy victory and all the VOTER FRAUD allegations floating around about Mitt Romney makes me want to barf!
If establishment Mitt Romney is a Republican the GOP is not the party of conservatism and they deserve to LOSE! Mitt Romney thinks he can buy the White House! Remember Christians,-- Rev. Franklin Graham said, Romney is not a Christian! Mitt Romney is not part of the Judeo-Christian Faith!
Mormon believe in a lot of strange things. Mormons say everything is better on planet Kolob. Kolob is a star or planet described in Mormon scripture. KOLOB is in the Book of Abraham, written by Joseph Smith. According to Joseph Smith KOLOB is a heavenly body close to the Throne of GOD. RINO Romney would be happy on planet Kolob.
Gee, Greg...it looks like you're not a Romney fan.
Guess you might as well stay home in bed on election day. :) Enjoy your rest.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
I think its pretty ironic that the headline on the main msn page says "GOP ID crisis", especially considering the content of the article. Yeah, I guess you really can say the GOP are suffering from a Freudian "id" crisis.
Remember, Money spent on this election cycle creates JOBS. A whole industry including the press has extra employees to cover this and the more they spend, the more jobs they create. This is the only place "trickle Down" economics works because the rich WILL spend money here. BIG MONEY!
.
I predict President Obama will win a second term by 62% of the electoral college and 54% of the popular vote. The Woman's Vote, thanks to all the Anti-Woman's productive rights Congressional legislation, will also swing the House back over to the Democrats and give the President 4 more years. If he chose Hillary Clinton as his running mate for a second term, he would get 78% of the electoral college, and 60% of the popular vote. Only the "Bible Belt" south would go to the Republicans
Pretty simple really. The American people are sick of reckless spending and corruption. Why is this so hard for our government to comprehend?
Let's see, Bush cut revenues by cutting taxes and then went to war twice. Can you say deficit spending.
Do you remember "faulty" intelligence that got us into Iraq (corruption).
So why give the keys back to the party that got us into this mess in the first place.

Obama / Biden 2012
Eric,
I never mentioned the Democratic party in my post. Funny that all I said was "reckless spending" and you started defending Democrats by bringing up Bush's spending. (Pretty much exposed the truth of what you think of your own party IMO) I don't think it's OK for Obama to waste money just because Bush did and I wasn't OK with Bush doing it either.
BTW I am not a republican. I am an independent that is alarmed more every day by both Democrats AND Republicans that have let their "party hat" fall so far over their eyes they are blind to the destruction their own party causes and seem OK with it because, after all, it's "their party". The truth is there is very little difference between the two parties today. Most the members of each are more concerned with re-election than doing their job IE: doing what is best for the COUNTRY not their own personal gains.
Time to stop looking at the party and judge the individual.
Defending something someone you like did wrong by bringing up the fact that someone you don't like did the SAME thing wrong is ignorant anyhow. Why aren't you mad at both of them? They both stole/wasted your money.
Obama signing in the NDAA was a huge mistake. He has done everything else to the best of his ability given the political situation he has stepped into.
And no, don't bring up his supermajority. It was not filibuster proof because a number of Democrats were in fact Republicans in disguise. "Blue dogs" or what have you.
Overall, Obama has been a good president. I HOPE however, that prevailing forces of justice and liberty prevail to overturn the Patriot Act, NDAA, future SOPA/ACTA attempts and whatever else threatens our American liberties.
And with that hopein mind, I can take one look at the current GOP candidates and know they are not the ones. They will certainly use the NDAA against Obama during the elections, but when it comes time for them to repeal it, they will just let it slip their mind. As you say, they are all cut from the same cloth.
At least with Obama, I'm not having a crazy christian fundamentalist agenda rammed down my throat. At this point thats all I can hope for.
Oh they comprehend it just fine, but the bulk of that was funded by right wing policies and contractors that profited handsomely from it, you don't think they are just going to give it all back do you? No, they are much more excited about pointing the finger at democrats and seeing how many shills they can get to follow along.
Bush bankrupted the Texas Rangers baseball team and we let do it again with our Country......
It's not simply government spending that most people are worried about. It's the government WASTING MONEY and then PRINTING MONEY to cover costs. Bush did more of this than anyone else, Obama prolonged it, and now we need Ron Paul to clean up the mess. Romney won't fix anything--in fact he'll make it worse, since he works for his corporate friends.
There's the Pon Paul thing again. He will fix everything and it won't cost us a dime because taxes are illegal. So, no more schools, no more roads, highways, bridges, healthcare, paying jobs, water, air. Anything that is still alive will be owned by one or two corporations. Life would be just great.
Yep, Ron Paul is gonna turn everything over to the individual states and let them duke it out. The thing is, many states would be bankrupt if it weren't for help from the Federal government. Are people really that stupid?
If Ron Paul even had a miniscule chance I would invest in Alcoa tin foil hats would become vogue.
tonybeerm - YES People really ARE that STUPID! Look at who they elected as Governors! This has been occurring for decades. Why do you think so many people in both Houses have been in their elected offices for twenty years and longer! Very few are Ted Kennedys born to wealth and serve by choice. Those days are gone. Those who want to be elected want the power for power's sake, work for their special lobbyists and now do the rest of you see why it has been so diffucult to change anything in Washington as one President who earned his education on his own merits? At least we have a President who thinks, has empathy, is intelligent and dedicated to his family without seeking the affections of a staffer or other preoccupying distractions. He truly cares. He is only one man. It is up to the voting public for us to do the rest...vote out the deadwood that continues to hold this Country from moving forward into the 21st Century like the rest of the civilized world. Maybe we don't belong in the civilized world. Who knows?
This is the first sign you're a sheep...it's just as bad as "Romney/Fill in the Blank".
Wake up, sheep...you're cheerleading for sociopaths who have stripped you of so many of your rights you've forgotten what liberty is.
Riiiight..because being the only non-habitual liar and non-sociopath running makes you "craaaaazy". Interesting world we live in.

chinobyl,
I also think it sucks he did not repeal the Patriot act as promised then extended it twice and hve you heard of HR347 the latest assult on our liberties?
Now we can no longer proterst anywhere or to anyone that matters. You are more awake than most but need to pay more attention. Keep spreading the word when our liberties are stolen!

The newest party republicans are worse then the one's who left. They are so brain washed by the tea party, the donor's to their election, most of all it has been instilled into there minds, Boehner and Cantor's way or noway.
I have an observation. It is not simply that the Republican Party has lost its way no more than the Democratic Party has lost its way. America has lost its way.
If Americans were not in such denial about the cliff we are approaching and understand that soon we will have to pay the piper, Ron Paul would have been elected in 2008. You may not like him and think he is fringe, but the fact of the matter is that when he has made a prediction, he has never been wrong. And when he says we are headed to insolvency now, it can only be ego and denial that keeps America from accepting the facts.
Keep in mind that as a citizen you can declare bankruptcy and have all your debts absolved, but as a nation, if we choose to remain a nation, it is not an option.
And to all those that believe Ron Paul is wrong, bring proof that he has ever been wrong in the past. Denial will get us nowhere, and fast.
Boehner has to do what the private money tells him to do. He's a man with no ethics. Boehner has no chose in the matter.
Cirnobyl: You're right. It's because Obama is not a christian but a muslim. That is why we have muslim agendas being shoved down our throats.
You must be stupid as well as unhappy. Oh poor you.
I'm only unhappy until this President gets out of office. As for being stupid, I wasn't the one who voted for him. By the way, only someone who is insecure would up their own remarks.
I laugh every time someone brings up Ron Paul as though he will magically fix everything. One who appears to believe in Paul calls anyone thinking otherwise "sheep". Another says he's never been wrong in his predictions.
I have news for both of you. Everyone is a "sheep", including yourself. Everyone follows and there has never been a true leader, either in this country or anywhere on earth. If that were the case, you would have one supreme leader over this earth (and for those too ignorant to comprehend, I'm speaking of human leaders, not spiritual). As to the other, no human is perfect, everyone is wrong at times in their lives. Is Paul the Messiah? Is he a God? To listen to some of his supporters, you would believe just that. Paul is just as likely to solve all the problems of this country as anyone else.
Solving our problems starts with ourselves. Over the years, we've allowed our country to be in the mess we find ourselves. We have no self control, making purchases we cannot afford both in our personal and governmental lives. We go to war without thinking the process through thoroughly. We believe we are better than everyone else and are always right. We talk about taking responsibility but when it comes time, shirk that responsibility, blaming others.
We all do it and anyone who says otherwise is only lying to themselves and not worthy of any type of intellectual conversation.
Dan-475751
Do I think Paul is a God? Hell no
Do I believe he is a Messiah? Hell no
Do I believe that he can do everything he proposes? Hell no
You are right, solving our problems starts with ourselves. And in doing so we must accept the fact that we are going broke. Denial will push us over the edge. But it is a fact that none of the others is taking our debt seriously. Our debt is the greatest threat to our security. Imagine what we could do for our people if we had the 40% we are borrowing on our debt to help Americans.
Can you say $22,000,000,000,000 in four more years?
Obama has been terrible!!! I'd rather vote for Bill Cosby!!!
16 Tons of Smarts
Feel free to write him in. That'll be one less vote for Romney.
Yes, Ron Paul is the answer- to who si the biggest hypocrite still running for President- he screams about Government waste, then flies fist class 84% of the time on taxpayer money. He screams about transparency, until it's discovered that 6 of his immediate family members are on his Congressional staff and getting paid by us to do nothing- Congress exempted itself from the nepotism laws covering the Executive Branch.
Anyone who thinks Ron Paul is the answer to anything should buy that Bridge they are selling in Brooklyn....
96ws6,
Could not have said it better myself!
Most coherent thing you've ever said.
96ws6 ....
Don't over think it ....
It's pretty simple. Romney has one dedicated group of supporters: the rich. Santorum also has one dedicated group of supporters: Christian fundamentalists.
Romney's victory shows us which of these groups really holds the power in the party.

Save what's left of America ....
I got a better idea. Why not give Alaska back to Russia. That should save a few bucks and you won't have to deal with Obama anymore. Say hello to Putin.
The things that you have to do to win the Republican nomination are the same things that prevent you from wining a national election. It's difficult to win the White House when the only demographic you haven't angered is old, southern, white haired, white guys.
I've got an even better idea. Why doesn't Obama go back to his country of Kenya and leave the US for the real americans. That would save even more money, since we all know his record on illegal immigration.
Why don't YOU go back to what ever slimy rock from under which you crawled out?
The word LOVE and Mitt Romney don't go together! Unless your talking about establishment Mitt Romney's LOVE of money! RINO Romney's bankrolled by the establishment Republican Wealthy, Rich, Wall Street Elitists! Not the small donors. To bad RINO Romney has about tapped out all his Wealthy friends! Mitt Romney is just another liberal moderate LOSER!
If the republicans only support the 1% how is it they get elected? Oh I know...they manipulate those that can vote. For all you people that want something for nothing and have someone else fund your lifestyle and pay your bills call your parents and leave us independent minded people alone. Nanny states never work and never will.
rick- Mmmmm, so your going to vote for establishment Mitt Romney who supported TARP, Romney lead the fight for Romneycare and Obamacare, Romney supports cap-and-trade on a Global basis. Romney supported the WallStreet bailouts. Mitt Romney supports gun control. RINO Romney supports the man made Global Warming HOAX and increased restriction and regulation thru the EPA! Mitt Romney the Father to gay marriage!
rick--- Why don't you just vote Barack Obama? There isn't any difference in Obama and RINO Romney!
@unhappy - better yet, why don't you go get your GED then come back when you can make intelligent comments. btw, what is Obama's record on illegal immigration?
I happen to work as an electrical engineer. What is it that you do?
Obama doesn't have a nice record on illegal immigration which is why his own relatives, who are here illegally, are allowed to stay. Tell me again how much he has done for the country in terms of illegal immigration? I know the media won't bring it up, so why don't you? Nice of liberals like yourselves to care about the real issues.
There is much wisdom in that comment.
Oddly, the Tea Party movement might cause the GOP enormous problems. The thing is that, on a local or even state level, the Teabaggers can effect a change, such as when Utah Sen. Bennett was unseated because "he wasn't conservative enough." However, on a more national scale, it's a different bird because the choices they have won't be as pure.
Of those remaining, Romney has the best chance to defeat Pres. Obama (though it's unlikely) because of his more moderate appeal. Santorum and Gingrich never stood a chance. This is the thing. Romney, to win, has to swing hard left (from his current far right) positions to win because, in the end, the country is roughly divided into thirds by political ideology. The base will rally around him in the end as McCain had these same issues in '08. The question is can he win over enough voters?
Honestly, I doubt it. McCain was as good a GOP candidate as you'll find anywhere (from a appeal standpoint) and he got shelled four years ago. With the GOP swinging even harder to the right then four years ago, Romney might have compromised his vaunted "moderate" position too much and done too much damage to hold sway in November.

Posting twice doesn't make it any more funny.....actually once was to many times.
Yes, it's rich versus the middle class in this election.
am i crazy??? I really don't care what the rich do or what they have all I want is a decent life, send my 2 kids off to college one day, pay off my house, retire nicely and travel with my husband. All this anger makes me sick! And here is what is really crazy, I agree with somethings that the republicans i.e. I am way more conservative when it comes to immigration, but as a black woman, I really could never bring myself to vote for one of them (for President that is) I can't seem to get past all their racial tones.
better tomorrow, i guess that makes you a racist since you cant vote for a white man. its nice to see someone honest anyway.

mrwood3#7.4: Romney is a white man? Are you sure? Republicans are people, least I think they are. As to a particular color, they all look "bleached" to me, therefore, ahem, uh, they all look the same. Another oddity. They all sound the same.
Funny how it's usually, not always but definitely usually the Republican/TP Inc. posters who cry "racist!" first. I know there are some psychiatrists/psychologists that post here, what is it called when someone rails against that to which they secretly subscribe?
Bettertomorrow: I am not white either, but the fact that you said you would not vote for them because of their racist undertones makes me feel like you are just as racist. What difference is a person's color anyway? If you feel you need to vote for someone because they are of a particular ethnicity then you are just as guilty as they are. In other words, you're both racists. If you are conservative, you should vote conservative. Not doing so, means your vote can be easily bought when the democrats are playing on your emotions about racism. We all know its a ploy anyway by them, don't we? That's why they keep bringing it up?

"Reaction formation" is the term you are looking for. A related term is "projection", whereby ones attributes to others the evil in oneself that cannot be faced. I learned about these "mental mechanisms" in high school. I am neither a psychiatrist nor psychologist, and one need not be to appreciate the significant psychopathologies exhibited by so many of the hateful right-wing posters.
Thanks, Croaker. Never heard the term 'reaction formation' but have heard, and used 'projection', just couldn't remember the actual word.
The 2010 elections show what Americans really want. Less Marxism and more freedom. They know that Obama would never deliver on that promise. After the oil surge of 2012, one promise Obama has kept, I think we are "all in" with Romney, thank you.
No way will I vote for the lying face of the 1%, Mittens Romney.

Not that I disagree with your statement, by any means.
Yeah you sure showed us with a guy who can't win by more than 3% in any rational state.
Finncrisp, the 2012 elections will show people don't want a fascist Right-wing government where the rich get richer and the poor, well you know, they're poor, what CAN they do but eat cake...
Marxism? Do you even know what that is?
Actually Karl Marx was one of the greats. Lenin and Mao really screwed up his manifesto. Their brand of communism was never His. Afraid though, the republicans would like to emulate Hitlers brand of fascism.
Thinking Romney myself, President Romney. Thinking this country needs a President who would be trying to unite it verse divide it.
America needs to wake up...
The GOP is a straight up PLUTOCRACY
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it's scary that even 30%-40% would vote for a party that has only the wealthy in mind.

So MNniceguy, where are the jobs promised to us by Obama? Working at Mcdonald's is not what I call a real job. It's a shame that all these jobs that Obama keeps claiming can't provide a roof over our heads? Still think he has done much? I see jobs that lead to nowhere.... The GOP is not in office right now and Obama is. Who do you think has a better chance for change right about now? If you say that Obama has then I know you are biased.
Joe DiMarco: Guess what? The democrats in office are also wealthy. And guess what? You put them there. If you don't like wealthy people, then you should have voted for someone else that wasn't rich.
Words that describe establishment Mitt Romney,--FAKE,--FRAUD,--RINO,---POSER,---FLIPFLOPPING,--ESTABLISHMENT,--ELITIST,--PHONEY,--HYPOCRITE,--NOBALLS,--SOCIALIST,--ROMNEYCARE,--LIAR! Mitt Romney isn't a Republican or conservative and he won't beat Obama! Mitt Romney is just another word for LOSER!
Note to GOP: you're not going to get over your "identity crisis" until you learn to admit that Dubyah Bush and Dick Cheney are an absolute disgrace, that they did irreparable damage to the US economy and world standing in the 8 years that they reigned, and that you need to scrape the PeeFarty OFF of your backs and move AWAY from them.
The problem Bush Jr represented everything the current Tea Partiers are not: fiscal and social conservatives. Bush did more damage to the budget than just about any president in modern times (with the possible exception of Reagan). Furthermore, he was never that ambitious in pursuing a socially conservative agenda, and in fact was too lax on immigration to satisfy many right wingers. The only areas in which Bush followed the traditional conservative rhetoric were on foreign policy (where it is apparent that Cheney and Rumsfeld were driving policy) and tax cuts. Otherwise, Bush Jr ended up being pretty much moderate--and an incompetent one at that.
I'd be the last to defend W. Bush but I liked the term "Compassionate Conservative". It at least gave the impression of hope... Tea Baggots blew that out of the water, though, which is why their association with Conservatives and the whole Republican Party is toxic. Look for big losses going forward for all righties because of this...
And when are you going to educate yourself on the fact that this country did not get where it is in just 8 years? This country has been going down hill since WWII. It doesn't take 8 years to bring down a country that succeed for over 150 years. Go back and read your history starting with Roosevelt and coming forward. Certain policies & regulation passed, under every President & yes Congress, including the current ones have gotten us here while Americans such as yourself were asleep at the wheel.
Then when people do not participate in the process then they deserve what they get. In 1960 over 60% of the registered voter turned out to vote, in 2010, less then 38%. Worst part, is two key groups have not had the right to vote, Women, who gain the right to vote in all states in 1984, the final states to ratify the 19th Amendment were Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisiana, in 1970 and 1971. South Carolina finally ratified it in 1973, but Mississippi not until 1984. Blacks men, who gained the right to vote in 1870, it wasn't until the Civil Rights bill that they were allowed the protection to vote. Black women, like all women faced what all women faced. The final states to ratify the 15th Amendment were California in 1962, Maryland 1973, Kentucky 1976 and Tennessee 1997. LOOK AT THESE DATES! It boggles my mind that these two groups, who waited and fought so hard for so long to vote, don't participate 100% in every election, local, State & Federal.
So the point is, if you don't participate, are indifferent, then in the end you so deserve what you get, and one cannot blame just one administration for getting you here. That is just non-sense.
And when are you going to educate yourself on the fact that this country did not get where it is in just 8 years?
Look at the numbers:
2001 - (first Bush budget year) national debt = $5.8T
2009 - (last Bush budget year) national debt = $11.9T
Now, before I get jumped on for including 2009 with Bush's record, you must realize that the government fiscal year runs from Oct to Oct. In fact, you will note that my source for national debt clearly states that each year is 9/30/XXXX. That is because that's when the old budget ends and a new budget takes effect. Everybody that calculates the debt figures from the time a president takes office ignores the fact that, for the 10 months of his first year, any president now is working with a previous presidents's budget!
This country DID get where it is in just 8 years and Bush IS to blame!
First, Bush took office Jan 2001. Budget for that year was passed in Sept 2000 by Clinton to end on Oct 1 2001. Bush's first Budget was proposed in 2001, passed Sept 2001 and was effective for 2002 calendar year. And 2008 would have been the last budget under Bush to be effective in 2009 calendar year.
Obama proposed his first budget in 2009, to be effective in 2010 calendar year. In January 2009, the national debt stood at 10.6T. But, between that time Obama proposed and signed in Feb 17, 2009 the Stimulus package causing this debt to grow by $3.6 trillion in just two years.
So, yes, spending increased under Bush as it did with all Presidents before him, but not at the rate it has increased since Obama signed the Stimulus package in 2009. The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office, three years. As reported by the CBO in early March, the debt now stands at $15.566 trillion
Dating back to the mid-1970s and afterwards, government debt began to increase faster than GDP. Let's also remember that the President is not the one who controls spending or passes the budget. He proposes and then signs it into law. And when looking at budgets proposed by Presidents, remember budgets are done a year before their effective calendar year. The US gov't calendar year begins Oct 1st and End Sept 30, not Jan 1st to Dec 31st.
Mitt "I'm too rich to care about your health" Romney and Rick "Let the children die" Santorum will be remembered in November for their devotion to their self serving attitudes toward the Elderly and Sick Children unable to be insured.
More crap from the left? So let me get this straight. How much did those wealthy democrats in office contribute to feeding those "poor" children? Did they give up their healthcare?
If the Republican party had tryed to help govern this past 3yrs rather than try to obstruct they may have a better hand to play but I think not. If they had acted in the Nation's best interest and helped govern everything would have gotten better a long time ago. Still we are on the right track even with half the country hoping we fail. USA!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!
Amen, anamericanpatriot-3752922!
Like the democratic party was such a big help to Bush during all those years of Presidency? You guys make me want to laugh. Where do you get this entitlement attitude from? You got what you gave in return.
Bitter, bitter, bitter.......unhappy.
My post wasn't meant to be bitter. Just stating a fact.
It looks like the Republican strategy of injecting divisiveness into politics is coming back to haunt them.
All you teatards, birthers, flat earthers, religious fanatics, mindless dittoheads, evolution deniers, Fox noise cultist and all around 15th century Republicans better get used to President Obama because he's not leaving office until January 2017. Republicans have offered up the most worthless collection of candidates in the history of this nation with no ideas to fix anything other than the failed policies of the past. Talking about birth control, birth certificates, Teleprompters, college transcripts and wars on religion while yelling socialist and Marxist over and over doesn’t attract many voters. And if you don’t come up with some new ideas and find an entirely new group of leaders, a Democrat will win in 2016.
Emphatically agree with you charlie, but that's the "idea" of the "Right" (can't call them Republicans anymore because they no longer stand by the precepts of the Constitution as it was intended). They detract or distract from the real rational issues, appeal to the emotions of the common voter through these "fundamental" topics of abortion, birth control, calling the President a "Socialist" when they know for a fact he is not, but are people going to research this? The majority of common voters do not. They rely upon these lame candidates and pundits to define the terms for them. They themselves are far worse than Socialists, they are Facists. While they fire up their voters with false rhetoric and lies, the Koch brothers and Karl Rove can continue to work behind the scenes to falsify the facts, manipulate situations to place them in a favorable light and push rediculous Bills through like Citizens United. That is why our Federal Government is now turned on its head. Karl Rove's Non-Profit Organization systematically misrepresented ACORN and bankrupted them in the press with reconstructed video that was edited to make them appear corrupt. This is what Karl Rove does. However, the corrupt have an ultimate destiny to fail. History has proven that. Those who serve their own selfish interest at the expense of others predict their own doom. The veil is lifted and there are more of us who spend our time reading and gathering facts instead of digesting media regurgitation of propaganda. That's what it is, propaganda. The better minds will prevail here. Money will not buy this Presidency. Fewer people are accepting what's told to them by media moguls. They are gathering facts for themselves...at least the educated voters among us.
Oh pleassssssssssse. You guys were not going to vote for the Republican party anyway. I don't know why you think it matters if they didn't offer you any "good" candidates. You've had a President in power for about 3 years and all you can still do is complain about the GOP( who is not in office). When will you grow up? When will Obama grow up and realize that he is not the next dictator and that everyone should get to choose how we spend our country's money?
Hmm, what did you say about posting twice?
Posting twice doesn't make it any more funny.....actually once was to many times.
Oh yeah that was it - #1.15 and #13

I'm posting this twice because I think you must have forgotten what I said the first time.
Obama / Biden 2012
So is Bush Jr. going to endorse Willard?
Doubt Mittens would want his endorsement.
Keep chanting that...maybe you'll be able to ignore the war criminals you chant for have decided they CAN assasinate you w/o so much as a judicial review.
Sheep...it's Morons of the two headed fascist Party (RepubliBloods and DemoCrips) 2012!
I'm so glad I'm moving out this country. Too many sheep make for an easy fleecing.
LOYALTEXAN#13.4: Course He will, but only after Cheney recovers and tells Him It's okay.
MORE CORPORATE BULLS__T! Yes, it does HAVE TO DO WITH GOP IDENTITY! The 99% American People HAVE IDENTIFIED THEM and low & behold found out they were backed by the corporate SUPERPAC money! That's the REAL REASON for the GOP IDENTITY CRISIS & ALSO the OIL CORPORATES' GREED!
Fact: The 99% American People have had it with corporate government rule! Capitalism is not working for the 99% Americans but only for the corporate & the rich because of GREED! NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS! That's NOT DEMOCRACY, that's HYPOCRISY!
What you're really trying to say is that capitalism is just not working for you.....which is understandable. Not everyone is suited to make it in this country. It almost always involves implementing one of the following traits; hard work, smarts or talent. Or even maybe a combination of all three. Apparently those traits have someway passed you by.
ceo - different points of view are welcome here for debating but you just insult people who have a different opinion than yours as if you have been given the gift of knowledge from above. It's not cool dude to be so disparaging to others. Just debate the facts and let your opinions fall where they may.
laurie, I don't know if right wingers are capable of discerning facts. They don't seem to care much whether anything they say is actually true.
laurie; Spare me your self-righteous indignation...and the lecture. My comments, while acerbic at times, are well within the bounds of civil discourse. It appears the only opposing opinion on this thread is mine, everyone else is in lock step with a particular political perspective and have no problem offering stinging rebuke of the alternative, as evidenced by the post just below yours (#14.4). If you have a problem with my comments....to bad, maybe you should try www.sesamestreet.com.
Heartlight 3 - I would like to respond to that exceptionally witty comment, but I'm afraid that Laurie again will find fault with what I say, as she has with my other comments, and thus be compelled to reply. It's as if I'm being stalked.
judging from that picture, you have none of those traits. Looks like you just got out of the joint and/or on the sex offenders short list. Really, lose that if you want to be taken seriously around here. Otherwise, bend over and be prepared to get railed.
Hard work, smarts, and talent? Which of those exactly did Romney use to get rich? You didn't include family money/connections, which is how most conservative rich people get that way. The liberal rich, such as Buffet and Gates, are far more likely to have gotten there on their own merits.
CEO
Tonybeeerm, you have some funny comments! I think ceo-722851 likes to try and critize and piss off people with his biting comments that he thinks is witty but it's not. It is only appropriate that his picture matches the person and that number "722851"is probably from Sing Sing. And a shout out to American Girl-724855 for some awesome zingers too!
ceo is a classic freshman student of "Frank Luntz", trolling about trying to complete some homework. Really isn't worth paying any attention.
tonybeeerm
Really...it's the picture???....If you actually believe that pictures posted on these threads is a true representation of the individual, then you're more simple minded than your posts suggest. Besides, I would guess it is something you can relate to. As far as being railed...sounds as if you've done a bit of bending yourself and know exactly what your talking about.... both figuratively and more likely, literally.
Hit a nerve, did I?
Thanks. I'm here all week. Don't forget your waitress and bartender and don't drive drunk
There is no identity crisis in the GOP. We know who we are and we do not care what you loons think.
Circular firing squad mentality at work, keep it up - democrats are counting on you!
rukidding47: Are you one of the current GOP Potentates? Not meaning to pry, but it's just that you speak with such authority!
Rukidding47: Thankyou for the best laugh so far. That was a killer!
It's even more of a killer if you think that voting for Obama will bring more "hope and change"!!!!!!!!!
women will vote in massive numbers in November- republican legislatures and the rnc have guaranteed that = and nothing they can do will will change that!
Be afraid
We will remember and we do not forgive.!

"Yet it’s taken Romney far longer to win the nomination than most observers expected, especially against under-funded and under-organized competitors."
Does begging your competitiors to "drop out" actually qualify Romney as "winning" because even Ray Charles can see that Romney doesn't have the actual "votes" to win anything, and from the looks of it, Romney is NOT able to get the votes either.
Mitt is the Republican version of John Kerry. A flip here, a flop there. His theme song should be "Changes" by David Bowie, because that's what he does not only day to day, but moment to moment. The guy's a real joke and by this time next year, we will be wondering what the fuss was about.
The biggest succeeds that that Romney had was when he took over the Flip-Flop® factory.
Flip-Flops® is a registered trade mark of Willard Romney Inc. and Bain Capitol LLC. All rights reserved.
This article cracks me up. If Mitt had won every primary to this date and got everyone of the delegates awarded, he still would have not reached the 1144 point. So of course he couldn't nail down the nomination at this point in time. It was a mathimatical impossibility you MSNBC idiots. I would like to see some articles written on why the Rickster and Newtster couldn't reach the 1144 by now? Didn't they have the same opportunities to organize their campaigns and raise funds for their Presidential runs like Mitt has done? Did they not do these things ahead of declaring to run for Pres., but now they like to poke critisism towards Mitt who did do them, and did them well. BSA=Be Prepared Now it's sour grapes and " I got out spent in this State" I'm not buying it as Rick and Newt had their opportunities to gather funds and organize themselves.
Its all academic as Willard will lose by an even larger margin than McCain and the dingbat did.
The future Presidential debates will be must-see TV. President Obama's intelligence and integrity will brilliantly outshine anything that comes out of Romoney's mouth.
To think that Romney would get nominated, (i think him sick) and using very-very little of his own cash. Those rich guy's that have donated to him just think how far and what that money could of done for our government.
mearly#18.3: I agree. If Mitt had any charity He could have at least had "Mitch McConnell's lower lip attended to. Too, He could have donated some money to have "Paul Ryans" face and frontal head fixed, so He doesn't look so much like "Billy Munster" without makeup. I think Mitt is really on the stingy side.
Many see pictures of Mulligan Mitt and wonder why he looks so constipated, the reason is simple. It's because he is full of crap... And the people that can identify with him and these right wing-nuts are full of crap as well... Henceforth the saying goes as follow "You are what you eat"... That's all
Go figure, then go vote...
Willard is building yet another mansion. This time in California. Its features include, an elevator for his cars and a lobbyist to get the zoning he wants.
For Pete's sake Willard, its an election year. Couldn't you have waited till after the election to build your consolation prize?
Establishment Mitt Romney and his RINO supporters are all liberals that offer nothing but negative ads, SUPER PACS and special interest money. If you support abortion, homosexuality in the Schools, gay marriage, Teddy Kennedy then vote for RINO Romney!
Capitalism works fine when it creates jobs in this country. I love the same old Conservative talking points. How this President is bankrupting America. Where were these clowns when 'W' was spending $9 billion a month in a war his lies caused? The only thing you could hear from these right wing hypocrites back then, was the sound of crickets chirping. The hypocrisy from the radical right is stunning.
I too am tired of all the democratic talking points. Like how republicans should get on board with what the democrats are doing. Where was all this help from the democratic side with George? Why didn't the democrats get " on board"? Why didn't the democrats control their spending even if George didn't? Seems to me, hypocrisy is on your side too.
I'm done stockpiling ammo. Now I'm hoarding tissues, then after the election I'll sell them back to all you Libbernuts for a huge profit.........ya gotta love the free market system.
Hopefully you store it away from your computer, nobody will buy tissues with crap spewed all over em.
However, delusion is and always will be your main export. Well, that and a lack of education and belief in magic.
Nice try on the article. only problem is the cadidates were all qualified, and very hard to choose. look who the dems had in 2008. A guy who was senator for about 2 weeks and never had a job, the wife of an ex president, and a guy going to jail in a couple months. Go Mitt! Kick his commie ass back to chicago!
But this primary has been defined, if nothing else, than by the flailing search by conservatives to identify a more palatable alternative to Romney.
A flailing search for a more palatable alternative candidate describes the sorry state of affairs in today's Republican Party. If your own party cannot find a palatable candidate among your own, how can you expect the American electorate to embrace the candidate that you barely tolerate?
Russ - apparently I'm one of those "snobs" that went to an "indoctrination mill" (as described by Rick Santorum) so I really don't feel bad by asking you "what in the hell are you talking about?"
"A guy who was senator for about 2 weeks and never had a job, the wife of an ex president, and a guy going to jail in a couple months."
What are you talking about???? If he is the wife of an ex president then please let me know who he was married to. Why do you think Obama is communist; and, I'm assuming that you think Obama will be going to jail in a couple of months.....WHY????
Please explain - you must get all your information from the National Enquirer.
P.S. - Go back to grade school and learn how to write.....or stop drinking before you post!
donna, learn how to read. the dems, DURING THE 2008 PRIMARY had barak, who was a senator for 2 weeks AND NEVER HAD A JOB, hillary, whos accomplishment was being the ex presidents wife, and john edwards, heading to jail. all the candidate for the gop, while not perfect, ALL have amazing qualities that far surpass ANY IDIOTS EVER the dems have brought forth.
And that lib fallback, CORRECT YOUR GRAMMAR, USE SPELLCHECK ETC, JEEZ, its like youre all a bunch of othe same person! they teach you how to parrot the same things over and over in lib school?
when you have baracalypse go to 2 years of college, then 2 years in new york, then takes 5 years off and gets a free ride from SOMEONE to harvard, and graduates at 31, all with sealed grades, always friends with communists and convicted terrorists, yeah, keep drinkin the kool aid and let the suppressors in charge fool you.
Romney is such a flip-flopping liar, and that fact alone is a problem.
better than a marxist muslim liar!
Remember, Fights: Ignorance can be fixed, but stupid is forever. (Is there some way to filter out comments from the terminally stupid?)
Well, bob, you tell us, since stupid is forever, why are you here?
Fights#24.3: You ever ask your mother if you were "Breech born"? Bet you were. You're looking backwards right now aren't you? Poor devils. All of 'em living their lives ass backwards.
We, as Americans should not vote for anyone who hides millions in offshore accounts. PERIOD!
You prefer an administration that has one-half of the stock market under the table for three years, money lawndering back door banks, ex. Bank of America, the NO CHANGE with continuing Ben Bernake, a Kennedy puppet, who makes bank CEO's rich ex. Bank of America CEO last year made $7.5 million and the people of this great country who invest in banks NOTHING for interest rates a continuation of the Bush Administration.
You should really open your eyes!
What identity crisis. The majority of Americans want the man who single handledly destroyed the US economy & reputation out of office!
Which is why Obama won by so much in 2008 and why he will again in 2012, and why the GOP will keep on pretending they don't know where these trillion dollar @!$%# piles the dropped on the middle class during Bush's 8 year vacation came from.
wake up america-3168303: Did some one piss in your pepsi and you drank it because who is the majority besides yourself and the republicans?
wake up america-3168303,
your comment seems to have opened my eyes, but then again I've seen and heard nothing but lies for the last 6 months so why should things change now?
ok we get it Bush was voted out , now what?
You talking about the perfect party called the republicans the off with the rich and screw the middle class party. They are a bunch of no good two faced jerks.
wakeupamerica-3168303....What identity crisis. The majority of Americans want the man who single handledly destroyed the US economy & reputation out of office!
That man is gone if you would have watched the inauguration in 2009 you would have seen the new president. Sorry you missed it.
I watched an inauguration where the oath of office was misrecited and I assure you, this administration has caused 48% of the citizens of the United States to reside below the poverty level and I hate to burst your bubble, but he was backed by the KGB ergo that is how he became P resident!
wakeupamerica-3168303
I guess if you keep telling that lie long enough, some kid who is voting for his/her first time will believe it. Seek help.
What identity crisis. The majority of Americans want the man who single handledly destroyed the US economy & reputation out of office!
Yes, they did! And he is gone! That would be George W. Bush!
Yep, that would be George Bush who issued all of us tax payers under $250,000 a check for $1425 in 2007 and told us, no, strongly encouraged us to go out and spend it on "consummables" was the BIG RED FLAG that the economy was going to take a dive, two unfunded wars and Bush tax breaks that have been going on for 10 years now, wait a minute!!! I thought tax breaks were a cure for all things!!! That's Republican rhetoric, then how did we get into a Bush initiated depression?!?! How did the auto industry nearly collapse, How come he summons the McCain team and Obama team a month before election" with his back against the wall"??????????? Knowing full well that whoever wins the election is going to have to deal with it, and that's the tip of the iceberg, next there were home foreclosures, mortgage investment fears.
Hmmm I guess the Dems think they are since they have continued those Bush's tax cuts and added another 2% for the past two years, which is taken away from our broken Social Security fund.
Hey "Wake-up America": That president is already out of office. Obama has done what the Republican president who started the mess couldn't and that's stop the back-sliding economy
